So I'm going to start rewatching MHA because I stopped halfway season 4. This is a way to make myself power through because I do want to get caught up.

Every Friday, I'm going to try to watch at least one episode and comment my thoughts about it.

I started with season 2, episode 14 because while season 1 was cute, personally, I find it mostly boring till we get to the USJ attack.

Instead, I'm going to start with the Sport’s Festival, which was the reason I even got into MHA.

(Also, I've been keeping up with the manga, so I know what's currently going on. While there will be no manga spoilers, I will talk about stuff that happens in the anime later down the line.)

Anways, here are some thoughts on episode 14: That’s The Idea, Ochako:

I forgot what babies they were! They're so cute. And it's so nice to see Hori- and the anime's- style change over time

Especially Iida though! I forgot about his mannerisms and how played up they were

It's interesting how thick they lay on how much pressure Midoriya- and later, All Might- puts on himself about how he has to be the one to take over for All Might. All Might directly tells him that he does not have much time so Midoriya needs to hurry up and learn how to control OfA.

It makes me wonder how All Might was trained

Aizawa!! I forgot he came straight out of the hospital. He cares so much about them.

He's also a giant loser, take care of yourself man!

Bakugou telling Mineta to grow some balls, ahdhkak, I love him

I love Jirou bullying Kaminari

Ashido leaning back in her chair, she's so cute

I LOVE Uraraka!! And I love her firey determination

Something big I want to talk about for this episode: Uraraka's goal

So there are a couple of interesting ideas that Hori lays out throughout the series, that he doesn’t really have a character make a big grand speech about but are evident anyways. One being that teamwork and working together are what make better heroes- something I'll talk about later because I believe it comes up in the next episode or the one after. Another about leadership.

But this episode lays the foundation for a rebuttal against Stain. While Stain has not shown up yet, his politics and ideas play a heavy role this season and beyond, considering he’s the one to get more villains interested in Shigaraki. And there are many rebuttals also spread out, but this one I think isn't brought up that often.

Stain would have hated Uraraka. He would have listened to one second of her goals and deemed her not fit to be a hero.

But Uraraka is a perfect example of why Stain's ideal version of a perfect Hero society would never happen- not without major changes to society as a whole.

Uraraka has a great quirk. She can and will help people. But she also grew up poor and watched her family struggle, so of course her motivations are going to be money related. That's what being poor does to a person- you worry about survival, you worry about your future, you grow up doing everything you can to change your situation.

Uraraka isn't a selfish person for wanting money for being a hero. And demanding that Heroes go without being paid means that a lot of would be Heroes that would be amazing at the job would be turned away. Considering Hori is a big fan of American comics, I wonder if he looked at how hard superheroes like Spider-Man have it, broke and trying to work a second job while also being a hero, and decided to kind of lay out why that wouldn't work in his world.

This boy will be the end of me. But I guess we’ll see. Like ya girl said it was a long con at the beginning but good lord I really didn’t think this would be the situation. Me. To be fair I went there with a loose plan and stuck to it. I said what I needed to say and didn’t chicken out. SO he’s getting a much better Jazz than any other previous boy. And if it is something that starts to become a problem, then I’ll handle it then.

But I dunno. I said I’d see how it goes tonight to see whether or not I would’ve told him I’m going MIA or whether I would just give whatever this is a shot (honestly the death of me is my whole “I’ll try it once” thing. Put it on my gravestone bc I’ll probably die by trying the wrong thing once)

But anyway, TONIGHT just went okay. Like good, but only because it was another one of those unexpected situation things where I get to see aj in action. Plus a long car ride??? Like fuck man, you know your girl is a sucker for car talks 😭😭😭

And don’t get me started on the fact he waited for THREE mha episodes to watch with me. AND even if he’s lying (which a small portion of me believes) it’s nice that he watches them with me regardless.

And then his friend needs help and he’s like “ya wanna go on an adventure” AND I sounded way too eager at first (but bc I get excited about ANY adventure and spontaneous thing) so I tried playing it down by being like well like only if ya want like a partner in the adventure. And then he asked me to be his partner in crime. So that killed me too

AND THEN this fuckin asshat is telling the dude how we met and I'm glad I wasn't the one who answered initially bc AJs answer was just the tits. "Tinder technically....." ANYWAY. I didn't feel like crying on the way home the way I did when he hit me with the baggage talk that time in January. And honestly as long as there's just transparency and I'm not Hella confused, it's good. I don't have a real reason to.

I just asked him that if he does start having interest in other girls that he just tells me and I'll give him the same respect. Idk. We'll see how long that lasts until I do decide I'm going MIA or who knows it could work in my favor. But I'm just gonna take some eggs out of that basket for now. It didn't have all of them, but I can redistribute some more now.

But I dunno. I don't know what it is about that asshat. He's easily still becoming one of my best friends but also Idk. My heart is starting to do a thing. I dunno man. I just hope I'm not a dumb girl who's feeling things that aren't there.

I told him I know I can't get mad if he starts talking to someone else but I'd still be pretty butt hurt and he said he would too. So when he says "I won't get upset if you talk to other guys" first off he's said something similar and then admitted to lying about it and was actually bothered??? So do I believe him first of all? But second of all he knows that he has nothing to worry about CURRENTLY. Thirdly, I am honestly the best. Soooo really it's ME who has nothing to worry about. I'm the bees knees.

But in all honesty I'm proud of him. He's really focusing on himself and bettering himself because he knows where he wants to be. And that's tough for a lot of people, me too, so it's inspiring and I'm happy for him. Like maybe it's good hes choosing that bc I tend to put all my focus in the person I'm in a relationship with- so maybe i take that and apply it too. Like man I stopped going to school at one point bc I was focused on kyle and shit I shouldn't have been. So maybe this forces me to work on that.

Anyway. He totally missed me. He can try to play it off but I could tell. He was talking so much. But it was a good night. We'll see how this goes. Play it by ear. Who knows. Will she go MIA? STAY TUNED! On next weeks episode of life with jazz.

so the episode where we got to see tokoyami’s internship with handsome birdman was super cute and i’m intrigued for birdman’s fake villain arc and all that but tbh i was expecting... more?

like i was so damn hype to see this incredibly chill asshole having to deal with the sixteen year old angst fest that is 1A’s resident emo-with-shades-of-the-honour-bound-samurai-trope and on some level i feel like they really didn’t push for the full potential of this dynamic. there are only six years between them do you have any idea how insane that would really be???

tokoyami: this world seeks to set upon me challenges the likes of which i know yet not, i can only hope that me and my classmates can rise to the occasion and prove ourselves worthy of the title of ‘hero’

i really, really love what they’ve done with natsu as a character, no i’m not remotely done talking about this:

he is so clearly so uncomfortable with the very idea of being around his dad. he very clearly remembers being a ‘failure’ child. he probably also had the realisation that this ‘protected’ him too, after he saw the brutal ‘training’ colgate was being put through. this probably tore him up, how he was spared from this only because he wasn’t ‘good enough’ meanwhile he had to watch his mother just fall apart, eventually resulting in her being taken away, leaving him only with his terrible dad, the brother he barely saw, and his fellow ‘failure’ siblings, one of whom later “died”

he is perfectly correct in blaming his father for all of this—it is very much endeavor’s fault that the family is as splintered as it is, and there is no obligation for natsu to forgive him (on the flip side, there is also no obligation for endeavor to continue to seek atonement or to try to earn forgiveness—to a point—even though he did very much do terrible things and should face consequences)

but despite all of this, he also has such a clear devotion to the rest of his family. he wants his mother to come home, he wants to have a real relationship with his little brother, he wants his sister to be happy even if it means putting himself in probably one of the most anxiety-inducing situations he can even think of.

god i just... he’s so well-written. and adorable. it’s great.

midoriya sounds like a grown ass man it’s so funny and yet not at all intimidating—though something about his spanish VA there is a similarity to his english voice

bakugo sounds the same as in english, i.e., like an asshole and also an adult man

present mic sounds like a mario villain 😭

hawks sounds... really good guys. just. really good. he sounds so cool and i can’t handle it. oh my god.

the way they pronounce the names is also extremely entertaining like they say ‘izuku midoriya’ like i know that’s just spanish inflection but hearing it on japanese names has increased my life expectancy

once again the dub uses their first names?? but unlike the french dub the subtitles also do this so it matches—izuku still calls him ‘kacchan’ though

ochako’s voice is a little younger-sounding than english but still has that vibe of like, cute bubbly girl who can also be tough

incidentally hearing her call him ‘katsuki’ and him calling her ‘ochako’ is kind of fucking adorable

aizawa has generic spanish voice. istfg i’ve heard that voice on duolingo
