Nerd Talk- The Emotional Spectrum

Here we go with a classic Nerd Talk back again!

This time we are doing over one of the oldest, most classic, things in all of DC! But also something that is surprisingly recent!

The Emotional Spectrum!

(And, yes, I will be including Each Corps' own oaths. Not evwey variant of the Green lantern Oath, just the main one for each Corps)

The Emotional Spectrum is what several groups across the DC universe draw their power from.

Originally we just knew of the green. Then others where introduced and more beyond that

But getting ahead of myself. For now just know this: different coloured rings with different emotional connections/power sources and different abilities (to am extent)

Red for Rage

Orange for Avarice

Yellow for Fear

Green of Will/Courage

Blue for Hope

Indigo for Compassion

Violet for Love

White for Life

Black for Death

And.... Two others

Lantern Corps

So. Not going to be going into a LOT of detail for all these, just general over views

Just know that the Guardians of the Universe created the Green Lanter Corps, accessing the Green Life of Will as it is the most neutral of emotions on the spectrum

Each light has a corps associated with it and each ring holds a 24 hour charge (or the equivalent to their own planet) unless you over use it

Each light interacts with others differently as well

The Emotional Entities

Another aspect of the Emotional Spectrum is the very Emotional Entities itself.

Each portion of the light is personified by a living creature made up of raw energy. Evolved creatures that where the first to feel the emotions they imbody

The first being to will itself to move. The first being to inflict fear. The first being to murder. So on and so forth

They can bond with, merge with, a living being. Bringing them to near God levels. No need to eat, to sleep. Power 1000% times that of a lantern ring

Also.... Imagine the Emotional Spectrum as a rainbow. Or the light spectrum. Because it is. Red and Pink are the very most outer colours with green in the middle. So think of that when you see the headings of each section from now on

Now with that out of the way, preamble done. On to....

THE CENTER- GREEN LANTERNS

In Brightest Day, In Blackest Night;

No Evil Shall Escape My Sight!

Let Those Who Worship Evils Might;

Beware My Power- GREEN LANTERN'S LIGHT!

The Green Lanterns are the first concept for the Emotional Spectrum we the readers ever saw, as well as the main one we have seen over the years.

Will is the power behind the Green Light. But to say it is will is... Almost incorrect. Almost. "You have the ability to overcome great gear, welcome to the Green Lantern Corps" is what the ring says before it slides onto your finger. Being able to overcome fear is the literal definition of bravery, of courage. Which is also emphasised by the yellow light of fear weakening a green lanterns power, and even immune to it

You have the ability to overcome great fear. Welcome to the Green Lantern Corps.

But it's also not incorrect to say the green light is will. As the Green Lantern Light's power is shaped by your imagination, your desire, your will given shape itself

The green Light is the centre of the spectrum. The calmest, the easiest to control and will not control the user. The most neutral of the lights

Used by the Green Lantern Corps, the universe is seperated into multiple sectors. Each sector is supposed to only have one Lantern in it to keep the peace.... Outside Space Second 2814. AKA the place with Earth. Where we have like 8 Lanterns, not counting Alan Scott who technically doesn't count but kind of does

The Green Lantern Corps' Entity is Ion, a giant space whale thing

A rather peaceful and kind being who tends to enjoy working with a host and letting them use their powers

NEGATIVE INNER- SINESTRO CORPS

In Blackest Day, In Brightest Night;

Beware Your Fears Made Into Light.

Let Those Who Try To Stop What's Right;

Burn Like My Power- SINESTRO'S MIGHT!

The Yellow Lantern Corps, also known as the Sinestro Corps, was founded by... Well... Sinestro. A former Green Lantern

It's exact origins have been fiddled with a bit sonbit going into detail. Basically, Sinestro made his own corps to take out the Green Lanterns and take their place as the peace keepers of the universe but in a dictator ship

The rings choose those who either FEEL great fear, or CAUSE great fear in others.

You have the ability to instill great fear.Welcome to the Sinestro Corps.

They also form constructs based off their targets fears, instead of what the user imagines. Just producing creepy images in order to try and remove their foes abilities to fight.

Yellow Light weakens Green Light, as fear erodes will power. Makes hesitation. Causing the Green Lanterns to have to put more effort into their abilities

And now... We have Parallax, the Fear Entity and the most well known entity

This giant space bug was captured within the Green Lantern's Central Power Battery for years, it's fear energy existence corrupting the battery slightly and giving the rings the inability to effect anything yellow for years

From it's place within the Power Battery, Parallax began to mess with Hal Jordon's mind and helped drive him over the edge when Coast City was destroyed, then later fully possessing Hal when he killed all the Green Lanterns.

Yeah shit goes wild

POSITIVE INNER- BLUE LANTERN CORPS

In Fearful Day, In Raging Night;

With Strong Hearts Full, Our Souls Ignite!

When All Aeems Lost In The "War of Light";

Look To The Stars- FOR HOPE SHINES BRIGHT!

The Blue Light, to me, is the most interesting. Blue Light is Hope, the light of Hope itself. And it has some interesting abilities. Earned by having unshakable hope or able to inspire such hope in others

It has most of the normal Lantern Abilities however it can NOT make constructs. The Blue Light almost being liquid. And the Blue Lantern's themselves almost being monks

When around a Yellow Lantern, it drains their power away

Around an Organe Lantern, it does the same

The Blue Light can cure someone of the Red Ring

And when around the Green Lantern, the Green Lanter's Power skyrockets. Supercharing the ring more and more. From 100% to 1000%. Also, when around a Green Lantern a Blue Lantern is able to shape their light into constructs

They are the support Lantern for Green's, 100%, and is a hard counter to the negative side of the spectrum.

You have the ability to instill great hope. Welcome to the Blue Lantern Corps.

Adara, the Bird of Hope, is the Entity for the Blue Lanterns

NEGATIVE MIDDLE- AGENT ORANGE

What’s Mine Is Mine And Mine And Mine.

And Mine And Mine And Mine!

NOT YOURS!

The Orange Light is another interesting one. For there is only ONE member of the Corps at the time. Agent Orange.

And why?

Because the Orange light is Averace, it is Greed. And Greed requires you to... well you aren't sharing the power.

You want it all.

How the Orang eLight works is... if you kill someone, they become your slave. The Orange Light basically stealing their soul and turning them into a mindless projection, an energy construct, to do the Corps leader's bidding

Ophidian, the serpent, is the Entity of Averace. Obvious symbolism with Eve and the apple.

POSITIVE MIDDLE- INDIGO TRIBE

Tor Lorek San, Bor Nakka Mur;

Natromo Faan Tornek Wot Ur!

Ter lantern Ker lo Abin Sur;

Taan Lek Lek Nok — FORMORROW SUR!

The Ingido Tribe is... an interesting one, again. Lol

There are two ways to join the Corps. Either having THE MOST compassion... or being absolutely VOID of compassion

You have the ability to feel great Compassion. Welcome to the Indigo Tribe.

The Indigo Tribe started as a punishment for the most corrupt and evil beings in the Galaxy. As once a ring was slipped on their fingers... they where flooded with compassion, sympathy, and guilt for all they hurt. Discarding their identity and all tie to the past, they join the tribe to seek atonement

Their ring almost like a parasite as it FORCES them to feel this way.

The power of the Indigo Ring is also a bit broken. As Compassion lets you feel other peoples situations, sympathy for others feelings, and being intune with your own emotions. So... well, they can channel the other lights and attacking with them. Only one at a time, luckily.

Proselyte is the squiddy Entity of Compassion

NEGATIVE EDGE- RED LANTERNS

With Blood And Rage Of Crimson Red;

Ripped From A Corpse So Freshly Dead!

Together With Our Hellish Hate;

We Burn You All- THIS IS YOUR FATE!

The Red Lanterns are all about rage and anger. Pure and simple. The angerthat summons the ring, the rage that consumes you, burns from the inside out. Literally boiling your blood away, being replaced with a molten napalm that the ring produces as its aura

Boiling napalm blood that can spat out as an attack at any point, as the Red Lantern's rage is so wild that it can not be focused into making constructs.

You have great rage in your heart. You belong to the Red Lantern Corps. The Red Lantern Corps was made by Atrocitus to get revenge on the guardians, who's previous peace keeping force called the ManHunter's, destroyed his home and his entire Secteor of Space, Sector 666

The Rage Entity is called the Butcher. As agressive and angry as you'd expect. Bobteak special abilities as I know just very powerful

POSITIVE EDGE- STAR SAPPHIRE'S

For Hearts Long Lost And Full Of Fright;

For Those Alone In "Blackest Night"!

Accept Our Ring And Join Our Fight;

Love Conquers All– WITH VIOLET LIGHT!

The Star Sapphire's are the corps of love. And has a very long, complicated history of itself.

But there is something I should make clear about Violet and Red Light. As they are at THE edge of the spectrum, they are the most violent and wild emotions. All consuming that can literally control YOU. With pure love even being twisted into am obsessive yandere situation

Star Sapphire's have the ability to produce crystals from their rings. If someone is trapped within one of their crystals... Well.... Time for love to rewrite you. Freeing you from anything behind those "happy emotions".... Yeah, a bit much

You have great love in your heart. Welcome to the Star Sapphires.

And here is the Entity of the Violet Light. The Predator.

Yep.

The embodiment of love itself is a skeletal dog monster called the Predator. The physical manifestations of Love itself is this xenomorph fucking thing called the Predator.

NEGATIVE OUTSIDE- BLACK LANTERNS

The Blackest Night Falls From The Skies;

The Darkness Grows As All Light Dies!

We Crave Your Hearts And Your Demise;

By My Black Hand– THE DEAD SHALL RISE!

*rubs hands* Here we go. The edgye Corps of DEATH!

The Black Lantern Corps are a group from OUTSIDE the Emotional Spectrum, the Corps of NO Emotion. AKA Death Itself.

And I am gonna shake things up a bit. The one in the picture above us is the Entity of Death, Nekrom! The one who rules the Black Lantern Corps! He is one of MANY Death Entities in the DC Universe such as Death of the Endless, the Black Racer, the Black Flash and more. Each one representing Death in a different way.

Nekrom represents Death as an opponent, as a darkness against light, as a war against life itself that wishes to drag you down. As the force to make you cherish life and not want to go before your time.

The Black lantern Rings do not choose users. No... they choose puppets.

Host bodies, dead bodies, to inject like a plant or a parasite. Puppeting the corpes around. And using the body in order to talk and interact with those around them. Using their memories, their voices, to mock and interact with the hosts former friends. To rile up... emotion!

All a Black Lantern zombie, because that is what they are, sees is pure emotion. For they hunger, they hunt, that. The power of the Emotional Spectrum within life itself.

They will rip the heart from someone and drain the power of the spectrum from their heart, which flows into their ring and is sent to their Central Power Battery. Slowly charging it. The stronger the emotions in the one they kill, the more power they get. And if they kill someone, a black ring is coming down to taeke their victim and make them join the Ranks.

Rise.

They use these faces to work and to egg you on, to pull out all emotions they can as intently as they can and as intensely as possible. To overstimulate you with emotions so you can't think and then.... You're dead.

You are part of their cause.

To remove all life from the Universe as an endless pluage.

The Dead ShalL Rise.

POSITIVE OUTSIDE- WHITE LANTERNS

LIVE!

And then we have, what I originally thought, was the final Corps.

The White Lanterns. The combined power of all seven coloured lantern corpsss. Life itself.

And you guessed it. A user of the White Light has every corpses powers, plus a shit tone other like bringing the dead back to life and even immortality in a few stories

Destiny Awaits.

So... Yeah. Broken. But also rare, as it ISNT really a corps but one or two chosen protectors who can share the power if needed

And here we have the Life Entity. Sealed on Earth and connecting all life in the universe. A skeletal angel.

It's cool

THE PHANTOM LANTERN

In Desperate Day, In Hopeless Night;

The Phantom Ring Is Our Last Light!

We Yearn For Power, Strength And Might;

I Seize The Ring- THAT IS MY RIGHT!

This would have been finished much earlier if I didn't realise there was more to the spectrum added in recent years.

Up above we have the Phantom Lantern. It is a weird mix between a White Lantern and every Lantern Corps.

Basically the ring accesses all seven lights, it does not have its own. And when you wear the ring you shift between the different Corps' abilities and appearance based on your own emotional state

There is only one Phantom Lantern ring. It was apparently the prototype for the Green Lantern Rings. So.... Yeah.

And that's about it

No Entity, only one ring and... only one storyline apperance, as far as I know, and thats it.

...

Yeah.

....

Okay, on to the final Lanern Corps! FINALLY!

INVISIBLE SPECTRUM- ULTRA VIOLET LANTERS

By Shield Of Day, And Shield Of Night;

We Feed And Grow, Beyond All Sight!

Your Darkest Self Shall Be Our Knight;

Wield The Sword- OF UNSEEN LIGHT!

And here we are the latest, newest, and MOST CONFUSING Corps.

This is the Ultra Violet Corps. Introduced after the Source Wall was destroyed... yeah, not going into that shit.

Part of why this shit is confusing? They call themselves as part of the Invisible Spectrum for their first few apperances. Suggesting there is a whole second spectrum with new Lanterns, like infrared and maybe Gamma and X-Ray as well. But then later they start to refer to themselves AS the Invisible Spectrum, as in the only part of it. Which is kind of boring.

They represent the 'Invisible Emotions' as they where describrd. The feelings you 'hide away' such a doubt and depression and so on... yeah. So lame and abstract compared to the others. The Rings are basically parasites, taking over their hosts as part of the UltraViolet Corps while using said emotions not just to fuel themselves but to keep you enslaved to the Corps

Also their Rings are tattoos and can not be removed because of that

And that is all I am gonna say as... well, I am not rereading those comics.

Umbrax is the Emotional Entity of the Invisible Spectrum. The Corps belong to IT. Remember the hive mind thing I mentioned? Well, all members of the Ultra Violet Corps are basically slaves to Umbrax.

For anyone wondering, yes, Chloe will be reformed in my DC Universe AU, and I have already chosen what she will be. Here’s a scene to give you an idea:

Chloe: *standing between Adrien, Marinette, and Sinestro*

Sinestro: *sarcastic* Oh, how precious. Another little earthling playing “hero.”

Chloe: Sinestro, for crimes committed on this planet and countless others, you are under arrest.

Sinestro: *laughs* And what authority do you have to arrest me?

Chloe: I’ll give you a hint. *puts on a ring* In brightest day in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight…

Sinestro: WHAT?! ANOTHER ONE?!

Chloe: *slowly suiting up* Let those who worship evil’s might…

Sinestro: *tries to blast them but is shocked to see a blonde Green Lantern girl shielding them*

Chloe : *takes the shield down* Beware my power… *blasts him, sending him flying* Green Lantern’s Light.

Scenario: Ruby is on the ground, her hood obscuring her face and covered in her cape. Crescent Rose is broken and in pieces. Salem is standing over her.

Salem: Another Silver-Eyed Warrior to join the rest of your fallen comrades. I’d say you were a worthy adversary, but you are just a child. *black flames surround her hand* Do you have any final words?

Ruby: ...In brightest day. In blackest night.

Salem: ...What?

Ruby: No evil shall escape my sight.

Salem: What are you doing?

The wind begins to bellow around Ruby. Her cape and hood starts to turn green.

Salem: What magic is this?!

Ruby: Let those who worship evil’s might, beware my power.

Salem throws her black fireball at Ruby. It explodes on her, enveloping her in black fire.

Salem: Tsk. Damn pest. *turns around and begins walking away* How dare she try to scare-

A bright green light erupts behind Salem.

Salem: ?!?!?! *turns around to see a pillar of green light*

Ruby walks out of the pillar of light, her outfit now primarily green and black. Her hood has fallen off, showing her eyes. Her pupils are still purple, but her irises are green. There’s a green ring on her finger. Ruby creates a replication of Crescent Rose in her hands, spinning it around before she plants it on the ground.

Ruby: Green Lantern’s Light!

Remnant's Green Lantern

After Sunsprite and her friends defeated Salem, she looks to the statues of her father Jaune, and mother Ruby. Built following the events of 2nd Great War. With the Crocea Mors of the Arc, Sunsprite used her silver eyes to seal Salem for good. But knew she has to be ready for the next time she appears.

Though it might take years, Sunsprite needs to be ready. To train future generations of huntsmen and huntresses. To protect Remnant.

"Mom, Dad, you can rest now. The war may be over, but Salem will return. But please, don't just support me, but also everyone else who want to do good in Remnant." Sunsprite pleaded.

As Sunsprite prays in front of the memorial statues, a Green light streaks from the sky like a shooting star. As the light reaches closer to Sunrpite, she looks after it shines behind her.

As she sees the light, it was a ring. Radiating to her presence.

The ring then began to speak. "Sunsprite Arc. Brave and heart of gold. Heiress of Clan Arc. Daughter of Jaune Arc and Ruby Rose. Because of your bravery and encouragement to defeat Salem, your duty is far from over."

Sunsprite blinks as she hears the voice. Confused for how the ring was speaking to her. As if she is chosen for a new destiny.

"What duty?" Asked Sunsprite. "What am I chosen for?"

"You have been selected to become a warrior of will and protection. What lies ahead is not just Remnant, but also beyond it." The ring adds. "With this ring, you will be granted the power of the Infinite and Unbound. You will become a Green Lantern."

Sunsprite stood still as she held her hand out. Not sure why she felt the need to accept this. But maybe she wants to do more good. Maybe something more to help others beyond Remnant. She placed her father's sword back into her sheath on the side of her waist.

Then the ring illuminates a light beam formed around Sunsprite. The beam lifts her off the ground. Pulling her into the sky. It startled her at first before wondering where her journey would take her next. She is now a Green Lantern of Remnant.

The ring slipped into her finger after floating towards her. Her armory became enhanced in green with a bodysuit. Her Boots are also green. And her Rose Emblem given to her by her mother was glowing in green light.

Then the scripts that were written in a planetary language was translated to English. Sunsprite reads like it was a poetry to recite.

"In brightest day, in darkest night. No evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil's might! Beware my power! Green Lantern's light!"

Every hero has their 1st moments to be the best hero they can be. But sadly just as the hero rises to the occasion to prove his worth....they sometimes fall saving the ones they love & swore to protect. Jessica - [places bear down on a chair] I'm Jessica Cruz, I'm 15 years old and I go to Beacon

[Sun patted her on the head]

Jessica - [shakes head, remembering she shouldnt be there] But I plan on going back home soon !

Sun - Aww come on, don't say that. The world needs more huntresses

Jessica- I'd help the world in other ways. I can still be a hero

Sun- Yeah but Grimm are the problem of our time.

Jessica- I'm not really that great at fighting with things besides my ring

Sun - …so are you a brawler like Yang

[Jessica lifted her ring and tried to summon a little Jessica but was too nervous due to social anxiety

Jessica- Oh come on….I had THIS

Sun - Hey its ok [puts hand on Jessica's hand] You dont have to prove anything to me

{Jessica pulls her hand away and blushes, shuffling around nervously]

Weiss- Hey ! Get away from her you HUSSY

Jessica - [shrieks] That's not me ! I….[pauses] Wait….

[Weiss puts herself in front of Jessica, shielding her from Sun]

Weiss- [staring at Sun] Cover those things you pervert. She's innocent

[Sun sighed]

.............

[Jessica sat on her new bed and looked around her room. Weiss had gone a little overboard in buying her things}

Jessica - [looks at ring] In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight

[Her mood picks up but nothing happens]

Jessica - Let those who worship evil's might, beware my power [Her power doesn't surge] Jessica - [sighs] Green Lantern's light….

[She falls forward on her fluffy pillow]

Jessica - [depressed] Why have you abandoned me…..

Weiss (In the other room) - SO Blake BELLADONNA !

[Jessica screams and falls off the bed]

Weiss- What ! Is ! Wrong !

[She gets up and goes to the door hearing some mumbling]

Blake - Torchwick ! The White Fang ! All of it ! Something big is happening and no one is doing anything about it !

[Jessica walks into the hall and hovers by the door]

Blake in the room - Well I'm not !

[Everyone shakes their head at her from their doorway and whispers "Just go to bed"] Jessica- [mouths] Are they like this every night ?

Weiss - We're not READY !

Blake - And we might never be ready ! Our enemies aren't just going to sit around and wait until graduation day !

Jessica - [gets an idea, mood picking up] I can do hero work here ?

[She listens in on the conversation for a moment, taking in what she can]

Ruby - I left my board game in the library !

{Jessica flinched, realizing Ruby was coming towards the door. She quickly turned and ran face forward into a visiting students chest, but was caught by her]

Jessica- Ugghhhhhhh

Emerald - Are you ok ?

Jessica - [dazed] I need to contact the league…

Emerald - [looks back at Cinder who is behind her]

[Ruby comes out in the hallway and sees the commotion]

Ruby - Oh hey, you guys are new

Cinder - Visiting from Haven actually

[Ruby helps Jessica to her feet]

Ruby - Visiting students have their own dormitory actually. It's just east of here

Cinder - Thanks [smiles] Maybe we'll see you around [kisses Jessica on the cheek and walks away]

[Ruby narrows her eyes]

Ruby- Welll….welcome to Beacon ?

Justin grunts as he drops Iris's unconscious body right next to Barry’s.

“Being on the police force makes this a little complicated.”

He’d taken not just one but two officers of the law. So chances are the police would be on this faster than he would have liked.

“It’ll be easier if I just kill them here.”

He didn’t need the dead weight. After all, the person he was really after was Harrison Wells. This would no doubt get his attention. His gaze moves back to your body.

“I really didn’t want to have to kill you so soon. I wanted to taunt him a little longer. He seemed to actually care about you too. So this is gonna sting for a while.”

The grin on his face was filled with malice. His expression only fell when he heard the inaudible mumbling from your lips.

“In brightest day, in darkest night.”

Justin stood in utter confusion.

“In blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight.”

“How are you still alive..” Justin glances at his gun as if in confirmation.

“Let those who worship evil’s might.”

Your eyes opened, and the green light circling your irises made him stumble backwards.

“Beware my power, Green Lantern’s light.”

A blast shot out from your body sweeping over the room, and he was pivoted into the air. His body hit the wall on the opposite side of the room. The gun flying out his hand on impact. Your body was lifted upright by the green energy circling your body. The mass of emerald light crawled up your arms and legs forming your suit of armor. The insignia at the center of your chest was hard to miss. When your feet touched the ground again, you could only stare. At the suit, as well as the ring on finger.

“This is incredible…”

“It is.”

Oliver’s voice caught your attention. He leaned both Iris and Barry against the couch, and you rushed over to them.

“Don’t worry, they’ll be fine.” You could no longer see the bruise on Barry’s head. There wasn’t a scratch on Iris either.

“They’ll wake up soon."

That was a relief.

The biggest problem now is Justin. He was presently unconscious.

“He knows about everything. Harrison, The Flash..me..”

It wasn’t the best situation.

“I guess we’ll have to do something about that.”

Oliver lifts his hand, and Justin’s body is levitating. It flies over in your direction, and you can hear his struggles.

“I knew it..I KNEW YOU ALL WERE MONSTERS!’

Oliver snaps his fingers and Justin’s head drops forwards, body unmoving. You panic.

“Did you kill him!!”

“Maybe.”

“Oliver!!”

“I didn’t, relax. I just removed all his memories. Only the important ones. He’ll remember all his crimes, but not the particulars. You, Harrison Wells, Barry Allen, Iris West, you’re more important than you realize. The universe has ways of protecting its defenders.”

“Woah, you can erase his memories just like that.”

“You should probably call the police.”

“But, what else can you do? What else can I do? If my neighbor is acting up can I just make her forget she’s an asshole.”

“Your powers don’t work like that.”

“Wow, well that’s stupid. What’s the point of a cool green suit if all it does is glows.” You look down at your arms and Oliver sighs.

“I have to go.”

He snaps his fingers and Justin’s body drops with a thud.

“Take care of this.” When Oliver flicks his wrist, a green lantern appears out of thin air. You catch it haphazardly.

“Try to stay out of trouble. Even the universe has a temper.” Oliver turns his back.

“Wait!”

He pauses, but doesn’t turn around.

“Thank you, for everything.”

He nods.

“Be safe (Y/N).”

It’s the last thing he says before he’s gone.

All you can do is smile.
