Though Kratos seldom spoke to Atreus during his single digits, I can’t help but wonder if Kratos and Faye were fascinated by their lonely only child, who’d never spoken to a soul outside of them. How Atreus interacted and interpreted the world around him and how he responded to it. Even to them, as what we’d consider ancient people, I think that they’d still be considerably curious about the ramifications of raising a child the way they were.

Genealogy, specifically my family’s especially, has been a special interest of mine since I was a kid. I have taken multiple genetic tests and gone through so many family stories and government records. Anyway, where I was going with this was, I got into contact with someone who is related to me on my dad’s side because either ancestry or 23andMe found we were “closely” genetically related. Probably only four or five generations back. Now, they were excited to find someone who was related to them and also clearly into genealogy because their grandparent was adopted and they had no idea who the birth family was. This is especially hard to determine because they were adopted in New York City about a century ago, not great for paper trails.

Now, my problem is that I was happy to help and have tried to find anything on that side around that time, but it’s been several years and I’ve only uncovered the immigrant ancestors from that time and no non-direct ancestors from that period. At least not on that side of the family. This has been infuriating because I live in an entirely different part of the country and my ancestors were pretty quick to move here. There was a brief stint in New York for at least one of them because that lady had to save up money to make the trip out here. You’d think “oh, there you go. A relative who immigrated at the right place and the right time to have a scandalous secret baby” except, the timeline doesn’t perfectly line up. She might have been there for a bit but as far as I can tell there is no evidence that she ever had a kid and that she even stayed there long enough to have one! “Okay” you say “did she come over with blood relatives?” I DON’T KNOW! I don’t know because any leads I’ve found were either never uploaded online (and I’m not taking a trip to New York any time in the foreseeable future, probably not in my entire life) and any possible hints I’ve found online were weak possibilities at best and all behind paywalls! I feel like a failure. Of course she had to have a mysterious grandparent from the side of the family I don’t know as much about. If it was my mom’s side it would have probably been easier with how crazy the Icelanders and their American descendants were about keeping track of that. Then again, it would probably be easier to find out with a family that crazy about ancestry. Gotta keep track so you don’t fuck your first cousin! (That’s not actually the only reason that it’s done but it’s a reason) and my grandma just casually dropped the fact that men had kids with people who weren’t their wives all the time back in the day and it was normal for Icelandic Americans in her community and presumably their ancestors (the things that old people just casually reveal when they find out you’re doing family research about a certain thing. Smh) My dad’s side doesn’t have that.

I’m just so frustrated, I gladly offered to help them when they asked because, hey, it’s a special interest and they are related to the people I’m already trying to learn about, why not! I’ll help. But the one possible lead I had definitely didn’t have a secret kid, it would mean everything else I’ve found just didn’t add up. All government and family info would have to be wrong about the course of events, about the timeline. My next course of action was to look into those immigrants (my dad’s family’s) relatives. Only, those are the people I’ve been running into dead ends for! They have been my most frustrating roadblocks. I have no idea who most of them are and what they got up to. The few I have a little information on aren’t the right ones to be related to my new mystery adoption relative. And almost ANY family on my dad’s side from before immigrating here are more mysterious than my mom’s side. I have little hints but they are vague and limited, while the few records I have found as possible leads are (unsurprisingly) in other languages (weirdly though many were in Dutch when the family in question are Norwegian and Swedish).

I offered to help, it’s a special interest, I love helping with finding things, and yet I have failed this woman. I don’t have the money to hire a professional and when my Icelandic grandparents hired one themselves for that side of the family (another thing they just didn’t mention until something I did reminded them that they had done it) that genealogist was looking online, found a family tree on ancestry that was very informative and thorough, which would be great for learning about my mom’s side, if the tree she had found WASNT MINE! No hate towards her but I feel very awkward at being one of the families new best information hoarders. That isn’t directly related to the struggle to learn how mysterious adoption woman and I am related though. I have failed mysterious several times removed cousin. Something I have had happen to myself and hate doing to other people.

The Star Wars fandom is like a case study of what happens when you overthink media intended for children to the point that you’ve completely altered the message and plot that the creator intended. The whole “the Jedi order is evil and Anakin/Vader is the good guy!” Idea fails to take into account the fact that like.. these movies are meant for kids, they’re meant to be easy to follow and easy to understand with obvious good guys and obvious bad guys. Yknow how we know the Jedi are the good guys? - they’re the main characters, they have funny one liners, they kill the evil bad guys who have red laser swords with their blue and green laser swords, they’re relatable, they’re nice, they’re paternal, so on so forth.

I love critical analysis and I’d never speak a word against it, when we consume media we should always take a step back to consider what ideas they’re selling us, what undertones are portrayed, is this supposed to represent a real life problem? But it’s also equally as important to consider who the audience is and how that might impact the story. And ultimately the audience is children, Star Wars is not meant to be a mystery thriller where the good guys are secretly the bad guys which you can only tell when you pick the story apart 20 which ways. The movies could not more clearly tell us who were meant to support. - is it the angry guys with red swords, ugly old guy who shoot’s lighting out of his fingers and takes over the universe, people who blow up planets, chop off their kids hands and blow up planet’s? Or is it the people who wear warm coloured clothing, talk about wanting peace, who tell funny jokes, have heartfelt moments, with blue and green lightsabers, fight against the space fascists and love each other.

Ultimately, Star Wars isn’t that deep, enjoy it for what it is and I promise you’ll enjoy it 100 times more

Solomon: We can only make a guess on who's the father by MC's change of behavior.

Solomon: From what I gathered, they didn't know who was the father of those spawns, so we don't know if the mothers would display the behavior of the demon father or its a common symptom of Aggression.

Oliver Adopts Danny

(Note: I have no idea what exactly happened on the island and made up my own thing. Also I had no plan when making this and it shows)

So! When Oliver landed on that Deserted Island, he wasn't alone.

On the Island, there was a Little Kid.

He was about 7, and he was just as confused as to why he was there. Apparently he had been sleeping at home when all of a sudden he felt himself falling, and seconds later he hit the ground in the forest. He couldn't remember anything past that, or really anything before that as well. He had seemingly lost his memories.

So, Oliver was stuck helping a Random Kid while trying to survive on the island.

He did learn that the Kid was a Metahuman with the ability to make Unmelting Ice, but the kid seemed disappointed by his powers. It was like he expected them to be stronger than they were. When asked, he said that he didn't actually know why he felt that, like it was something else he had forgotten.

And that was how the situation stood for a few years. He and the Kid, who he eventually learned was named Danny, became closer. He took up a paternal role in the kids Life, trying to keep him safe from the dangers of the island.

Danny was also a huge help on the island, his Ice was useful during Hot Nights, and the fact that it was Durable and Didn't Melt made it a good material for their tools. He also knew a lot of random skills, like the basics of how to shoot a Bow and how to set up a Campfire.

By the time they had been there for 3 years, Oliver already saw Danny like a Son. He had decided long ago that when they finally left the island, he would adopt him.

Then, on the 4th Year, Oliver found something strange. There were tracks in the Dirt on the less explored side of the Island, Human Tracks.

Following them, he found the source, An Illegal Slave Trading Ring.

The Base seemed to be new, so they had probably set up shop a few weeks ago at most. He and Danny must have missed them because they didn't usually go to that side of the Island.

He returned to the Camp that night and contemplated what to do.

It took another few days for him to resolve himself to go and save those people.

It took another few weeks to prepare himself.

It took less than 30 minutes to get the Job Done.

By the end of that night, every Slaver on the island was Dead, and the slaves were set free. They still didn't have a way off the island, since a few of them had managed to sabotage the boat before they died, but Oliver and Danny were there to help them.

By the 5th Year, they basically had a Small Village set up back there their Camp used to be. It was a community of all of the people Oliver had managed to save that night, all working together to survive on that Mysterious Island.

Then one day, finally got some luck. A Fishing Boat had gotten lost on their usual Route, and had spotted the SOS Signal that they had set up on the Beach.

After that it didn't take long for everyone on the Island to be saved. Oliver asked the former slaves to keep his heroics a secret because he wanted to keep him and Danny safe from the press, and they all agreed.

So, Oliver went home and adopted Danny.

He also decided to become a Vigilante.

And then eventually he joined the Justice League.

And one day while showing his son around the newly build Watchtower he ran into Constantine, who then proceeded to ask "Why the hell do you have a mini-death god holding your hand?"

...

I have no idea what this was supposed to be. I wanted Oliver to adopt Danny, and I wanted it to be on the Island, but I had no idea how to do it.

My basic idea for it is that Danny accidently wished for a Good Dad one day and Desiree heard him. So she turned him into a Kid, sealed away most of his Powers, and sent him to the Island with no memories past age 7.

Maybe this was "Ghost King Danny"?

Idk, I like it more as "King Danny who rejects the Throne but is still basically the leader because he keeps helping people no matter what" but that's just me.

Steve knew how to stitch, and he knew how to sew. They were all skills his grandparents had taught him. His paternal grandfather, the doctor, his maternal grandmother, the seamstress. Eddie was currently lying in the hospital, moping about his scars. He was no longer wanted for murder but he was still in pain and scarred for life. Steve wanted to cheer him up, so he got him a teddy bear, but it needed something else. He decided to look for clothes for the bear, and he ended up in the children's section where he found a denim jacket along with a white shirt. He managed to find something to use as devil horns. When he got home, he got to work stitching the horns onto the bear and cut the sleeves off of the jacket.

The next day, his last day off, he went straight to the hospital carrying the bear. Shit, should he have gotten him flowers? Do guys get flowers for other guys? Steve spotted one of Eddie's nurses, the one who always gave Eddie the stink eye and talked nasty about him when she thought he was asleep. She was gushing about the flowers her boyfriend had just gotten for her. Steve waited until she left with her friend. He swooped in and took a flower from the bouquet, hiding it behind his back before hurrying off to Eddie's room. He was alone watching Scooby-Doo and singing along with the theme song.

"You know we got a mystery to solve, so, Scooby Doo, be ready for your act. Don't hold back and, Scooby Doo, if you come through, you're gonna have yourself a Scooby Snack. That's a fact," Eddie sang loudly and purposely off key, grinning excitedly at the screen.

Steve grinned fondly from the door. Dear god, this man was cute.

"Hey, Eddie," Steve greeted.

"Stevie!" Eddie exclaimed. "Whatcha got there?"

"It's Teddy Munson!" Steve said, whipping out the bear.

Eddie gasped, making grabby hands for the bear. Steve handed it over.

"Where the hell did you find this?" Eddie asked.

"I found the bear, but I added the other stuff. I cut up a baby's jacket and stitched on the devil horns," Steve shrugged.

"You made this. . .for me?" Eddie asked softly, his eyes wide as he clutched the bear to his chest. "Why?"

"Because you've been kind of mopey being stuck in here, and I thought you could use some cheering up. And I . . . I like you," Steve said.

"You like me?"

"Yes."

"You like me?"

"Yes!" Steve exclaimed and presented the flower to him.

"That tells me nothing!" Eddie exclaimed.

"I stole it from the nurse that's been giving you a hard a hard time," Steve said.

"You stole this from the Mistress of Evil?" Eddie asked, smirking. "Oh, you like like me!"

"Yes!" Steve blushed.

"Come here!" Eddie demanded.

"Why?"

"So I can eat your face," Eddie replied.

Steve laughed but let Eddie pull him in for a kiss. Steve pulled away and leaned his forehead against his.

"You are so cute," Steve said.

"Not as cute as you. Do you want to watch Scooby-Doo with me?" Eddie asked and pulled back the covers.

"I'm not sure I can fit," Steve said.

"I think you can, big boy," Eddie replied.

Steve snorted before gently crawling into bed beside Eddie, who carefully settled against him. Eddie hugged the bear tightly against his chest.

"Sorry, I didn't think to look for pins for his vest," Steve replied.

"Baby, you made me a bear with horns. It's more than perfect. Besides, I've got the perfect pins for our little guy," Eddie cooed.

It wasn't long before Eddie was nodding off in Steve's arms, and before long, Steve was asleep as well with the bear nestled between them.

This is the development blog for the interactive fiction called "The Second Sight", which you can find on itch.io at the link above!

This is my first IF project, although I've been writing original stories and fanfiction for years.

I've included the story description and character profiles from the itch page below the cut.

This blog will be a combination of development info, images and music that I associate with the story, and other musings.

Fair warning, there might be spoilers from the latest chapters here, so I recommend catching up before reading too far.

You’re an urban legend in a county full of them.  When you were thirteen, you were found passed out in the road by one of the local cops. No missing persons report. No fingerprints on file. No memories. Just a name.

Oh, and some bizarre psychic powers.  You're content with simplicity. You like your isolated cabin and helping Carter track down missing persons.  You know that in theory there are more people like you out there, but you've never wanted to look behind the curtain to find out.

However, with the disappearance of a local teen named Casey Powell and a recent attempt on your foster father's life, your serene, isolated life comes abruptly to its end and a new chapter begins.

The Second Sight is an urban fantasy story, where you step into the role of a psychic whose strange powers have always separated them from others. Those same powers will drag you down the rabbit hole and into a world that is both the familiar and foreign to everything you know. A world filled with magic, witches, fae, demons, and the unknown.

You can immerse yourself in the story by customizing your protagonist's general appearance, choosing how they interact with others, and whether you lean on logic or intuition to problem solve. There are three love interests planned (more may be added depending on player reception and feedback), the genders of which will be selected by the player upon meeting them.

Jacob Carter

Age: Late forties

Race: Human. Definitely.

Gender: Male

Temperament: Carter radiates grizzled, old bastard energy and despite being the least paternal person in the world, he is your adoptive father. While harsh and aloof on the surface, he is also fiercely protective of you and has bent over backwards to give a decent life to a kid that isn't even his. He doesn't talk about his life before coming to Herman County and you haven't asked him, though that might change soon enough...

Zander/Zora

Age: Late twenties.

Race: Human.

Appearance: Umber brown skin, black locs, grey eyes

Temperament: Gentle and resolute, Z isn't what you imagine when you think of an agent of the mysterious Magic and Anomalies Bureau. Kind, soft-spoken, and exceedingly polite, Z is Carter's former apprentice and something about them puts the old man on edge.

Age: Appears to be in their late twenties or early thirties

Race: Human. Maybe.

Appearance: Tall and slender, white-blonde hair, and gold eyes.

Temperament: Playful and flirtatious, talking to R always feels like a game of cat and mouse and you can never be sure which role is yours. Part sad clown, part trickster, and always maddening to work with, the only things you can be certain of with R is that they probably know what they're doing. Everything else is up in the air.

Unknown aka "The Kestrel"

Age: ???

Race: Definitely not human.

Appearance: Tall, beautiful, elegant, with black hair and black eyes.

Temperament: The Kestrel is a complete unknown. It's impossible to say whether they are a lethal ally or deadly enemy, but either way they are a powerful dreamwalker. You don't know how long they've been watching you, but you're willing to bet that it's been longer than you're comfortable with.

any time the sun transits and becomes exactly conjunct your natal sun (it is in the exact sign and degree it was in when you were born), you undergo a solar return. solar returns happen every year on your birthday. my solar return is coming up this october, so i thought "why not?let's continue my thoughts about the return charts."

ADAM

🍃Adam's sixth father sense is always active when you are with him. He is always attentive whenever you need something, ALWAYS; and tries his best to make your life easier.

🍃Speaks very slowly when you are together, enunciating the words well and letting you see the way his mouth pronounces each single letter. He's sure you won't miss anything, so he's all over you if he sees you struggling.

🍃Adam doesn't hesitate to pick on anyone who makes fun of you or tries to pick a fight, using the excuse of deafness to insult you. He immediately takes your defense, but does not start a fight in front of you, in fact Abel has the task of covering your eyes.

🍃Together with Adam, Cain and Abel will do their best to learn how to interact with you, always inventing a different and fun way to not make your situation weigh too much. Even if, in the end, it will always be Eve who consoles you and tries harder...what a proud mother she is!

ZEROFUKU

🍀Probably, Zerofuku met you during one of his many journeys on earth, remaining intrigued by your condition given the way in which you interacted differently with those around you. Initially, he thought you were being rude, since you didn't respond when he tried to get your attention from a distance.

🍀Every time he starts talking quickly and enthusiastically about his days, Zerofuku gets lost in his little fantasy world, only stopping when he sees your thoughtful face and your half-closed eyes peering into his soul. Then he realizes his mistake, apologizing profusely and realizing that, of his speech, you understood only a few words.

🍀But for him it is not a problem! The God of Fortune starts over again, looking at you all the time and speaking loud and clear, enunciating the words! Don't worry, he would spend hours talking to you and never loses his temper.

🍀He always tries to save you from embarrassing situations, and if he sees that someone misunderstands your intentions or your behavior, Zerofuku explains your condition to them, hoping to do good.

BUDDHA

🍬"Oh, you're ignoring me? You do what you want, I respect that"

"Sorry, did you say something?"

"Yeah, just like that...cool. I like your attitude"

🍬You two become friends and you have no clue how it happened, it will always remain a mystery to you. The only thing you know is that, one day, he liked you, and now you have to get along with it. Expect lots of jokes from him: Buddha may move his mouth in front of you, not uttering a sound and inventing non-existent words, and then burst out laughing at your confused and complex face.

🍬Expect to get in some trouble with him. If he sees that someone wants to get your attention, but you ignore him because you just don't hear him, Buddha will start making up the weirdest stories to justify your lack of reaction. He would approach the person in question, saying that you are a princess and that you have no time to waste with them, or he makes up that you are his girlfriend and that they should let it go. But the Enlightened lets no one dare to get angry with you, Buddha becomes your personal protector.

🍬If he sees you're having trouble with too high a decibel sound, Buddha immediately whisks you away from that seat, plugging your ears and making sure you're okay. He gives you a candy and then pats your head, the important thing is that you are fine now.
