🚨 Major Spoilers for Detective Pikachu (game)

So I just finished my Detective Pikachu replay and can I say, the only thing I disliked about the game is Roger Clifford's complete lack of personality, motivation, or anything that would make him an interesting villain

Tim does the traditional "goad you into revealing your backstory to buy myself time" thing and Roger literally just says his motivation is "to take over the world" like a damn Saturday morning cartoon villain

Listen, I understand that this game is meant to be accessible to a younger audience, so you probably don't want anything too intense, but even a slight explanation would do the game wonders. Every other villain in the game has at least some kind of motivation, and some of them are even slightly sympathetic - I think of Max, whose paranoia is his own downfall. So you'd think for your Big Bad you'd go all out on motivation, or at least do something, anything. Like, they set up Graham as a red herring, so maybe you could have Roger become convinced that his boss is evil and he needs to stop him. Maybe tie Harry in somehow, have Roger taunt that he knows more about him than Tim does. Even if it was something stupid like "Harry bullied me in high school so that justifies animal experimentation," I would still prefer that to the non-explanation given in the game. Hopefully the sequel will give us a more satisfying payoff to its big bad.

Anyway, now that I'm done with DP, I'm going to spend a little time finishing up a non-Pokémon game I'm playing, and then leap into my Emerald catch-em-all. I'll def take a break from it in October to play DPR (my birthday's a few weeks before the game comes out so if I can swing it in my budget, I will be buying it as my birthday present to myself 🙂).

The Saint: The World Beater (6.20, ITC, 1969)

Simon's aware of what's going on almost from the outset so this becomes an exercise in him asserting a #kind of moral on the baddies (he hasn't done that in a while tbf). main baddie being the lovely Pat Haines‚ whose character has a history #with Simon that's vaguely alluded to have been romantic. she's great‚ a wicked rascal out for money‚ and almost uniquely for this series #the end of the episode catches up with her some time later to reveal that Simon has had zero impact and she's still conning people! it's #sort of lovely in a way. so yes we wrap up all nicely on a cozy feeling episode that lets pretty much everyone off the hook without #punishment. and so that was the Saint! 118 episodes later‚ done and dusted. it has its strengths and its weaknesses but there's nothing #quite exactly like it... farewell old friend. so that's that all finished i can move on to someth #but wait. what's that? Ian Ogilvy? what are you doing here? why are you beckoning towards me? no... no it can't be...
