wahh thank you so much...!! i feel like im still trying to figure them out in a lot of ways but i do really like ironing out my visual interpretations of them so im really happy to hear if people like what im coming up with

also anon you super activated the part of my brain that cant help but yap about art theory... i spent some time writing as many tips as i could think of. unfortunately i dont think i have the time currently to do a fully illustrated guide, but ill still try to include some visual examples:

ANATOMY:

to preface i think that like 100% of the time you should reference a real life photo for anatomy rather than other artwork or drawn references. the best way to learn the body is by… well, actually looking at the body! but also artwork is informed by a person's own artistic ability/stylization choices/sense of idealism, so while looking at art can help give you an idea on how to break down forms, i think you would be best served observing real life references. i labor on this point because i do think that having over relied on drawn reference material and avoiding photographic references on the basis of not being interested on realism hindered me as a largely self-taught artist as a kid, so i want to encourage live or photographic reference since anatomy is one of the foundations from which everything else is built on. that being the case, all of my doodles i'm doing for this are going to be for the sake of example rather than to strictly say how you should or should not be drawing something

-> when you are doing a study of a photo, just try copying it as best as you can. pay close attention to the natural lines and shapes of the body -- the S-curve shape of the leg, the triangular shape of the forearm, the trapezoid shape of hips/thighs when they sit, and so on. note where the body folds or squishes or pulls; how mass will shift to accommodate a certain position. if a form is hard to visualize, focus on the negative space and carve that out, rather than strictly drawing the positive space.

don't expect to get it perfect the first time. in fact, iterate on it multiple times to build understanding. try doing it to a timer of 15, then 10, then 5 minutes. doing this will force you to have to prioritize the most important shapes. you can help reinforce this by using a thicker brush or a brush with no pen pressure (no joke ms paint works great for this) to force you to be loose and not become preoccupied with details.

-> pinterest is a great resource for finding and compiling photo reference material

-> organic shapes are curved, so embracing/emphasizing that (particularly for the extremities) can help make your drawings look more natural or fluid

POSES: -> it all begins & ends with contrapposto… you've probably heard of the line of action, which is related. if you're offsetting the shoulders & hips, it: makes poses more natural, more dynamic, and helps the pose sort of "draw itself" -- the legs will follow the direction of the hips, and you can use the arms to reinforce the angles

-> context is key. don't ask: what pose should i draw? instead ask: what do i want this character to convey? what does happiness, anger, sadness, and so forth look on this particular character? how do they express that? consider these drawings: these are both ostensibly the same pose, but look at how changing just the shape of the spine recontextualizes it.

for more on pose design i recommend watching Tracer & Pose Design 101 - The Animation of Overwatch by New Frame Plus (i promise this is a genuinely super informative video).

to expand on this, in general, all of the components of a piece (background, composition, pose, etc.) are best considered in conjunction rather than separately. it is difficult to choose a pose and then choose a background because they are missing the context that would make a piece cohesive. when you are planning a drawing, try to begin with your general concept/idea/prompt and then do several thumbnails -- small and quick doodles that should take no longer than 5 minutes each -- developing it: you may find that the pose and bg will naturally fall into place.

-> silhouette: the degree to which you need to push this varies by style but generally speaking the pose needs to be readable; i.e. instantly recognizable. try to keep important elements of the gesture outside of the silhouette. for example, if the character is pointing, keep that arm out of the interior of the body. the same pose can be more or less readable or dynamic depending on where the character is pointed in relation to the viewer

-> exaggeration!! goes along with the previous point. push the pose as much as you can (and what makes sense for your style) to communicate your pose as clearly and as intensely as possible.

FACES: -> i highly recommend the app Handy Art Reference Tool by Belief Engine for all things related to drawing hands/heads/feet. its on both android and ios. it isn't free -- it costs around $3 -- but that is seriously such a small price to pay for the amount of utility you get out of it: the hands models are fully poseable (there's also pose presets), you can rotate the head models however you want, and there is 3-point customizable lighting. it is really helpful for getting those super tricky and hyperspecific head angles that you just can't find a real life reference for. that being said given that there's only a few different head model variants, bear in mind how differences in features can affect what exactly a face will look like in those angles.

-> i still recommend doing studies of real people. as with anything else, learning generalized proportions is important, even if you are going to later on bend or break this depending on style

-> as for my own approach... it kind of depends on the style i'm doing at that particular time. for my paintings (what id consider my main style) i approach a character with a few real-world features in mind and then apply them to the best of my ability. it usually will take a few iterations to land on an interpretation i really like as i try out different things. a lot of the face also gets developed during rendering rather than through my initial sketch too, as i adjust for lighting and correct proportions on the fly

(look how much this image changes between sketch and render lol)

if i were to recommend anything, i think it would be to nail down your most distinct features first -- the ones that will make your character's face recognizable, and could apply regardless of art style. in my case with kim dokja, i knew when i first started drawing him that i wanted to give him a longer face and down-turned eyes. when i decided to do the disco elysium inspired set, in which i was breaking out of my comfort zone by letting go of any idealizations focusing on conveying characterization/making them feel "real", i landed on some more specific traits (defined lower lids/perpetually tired eyes/eyebags(?) the crease there idk how to describe it) which i continue to try to evoke even if im drawing something much more cartoony

as a side note, this very same process changed yjh much more dramatically

(^ that first guy is mad someone else)

those handful of key features will be the thing that you can then take into a simpler style and simplify or exaggerate to whatever degree suits you. you can also play with shape theory (square = sturdy/solid, circle = natural/smooth/welcoming, triangle = energetic/dangerous). shape theory doesn't necessarily need to be so rigid -- you can combine shapes as you please to convey whatever vibe you're going for -- so please think of it as a tool that may help rather than a rigid law you must abide by.

-> expressions: exaggerate them. thats kind of it!! make it big!!! you wanna be able to really feel those emotions. the principles of squash & stretch help here: think of how the muscles move when you, say, open the eyes or mouth really big. as one side of the face stretches open, the other side squashes to accommodate it

even without changing the position of the jaw here, moving the nose and scrunching the eyes will sell the expression

you can also play with squash/stretch to break proportions to sell a feeling more

since expressions are just, well, poses for the face, everything else for poses applies here (and facial expressions & pose should also be considered in tandem). while the term contrapposto itself just refers to the offset of the shoulders & hips, the similar principle of asymmetry also carries here as that will help make the expression a bit more dynamic.

hi, thank you! i have a lot of fun drawing those bits so i'm glad the fun comes through :)

i can def take a crack at some notes on how i construct stuff, but especially with this general pelvis area i think a lot of how i draw it is very much individual stylization -- so what i'll go over is definitely not any kind of anatomy tutorial or step-by-step or anything like that, and i also wouldn't even really call these notes suggestions on how to draw this stuff. my real suggestion is what it always is, which is to get into anatomy studies/figure drawing first, then decide how you want to stylize starting from that foundational info! also, while i don't usually lean into this a lot in my own style, the musculature of the thighs is a lot more complex than you might expect, so it can be useful to look at more detailed anatomical diagrams in addition to just studying from models. but i hope seeing how i often do it myself is still helpful in some way!

so, for starters, and i mean this totally seriously: a lot of what i get complimented on in my art is stuff i specifically draw with horny intent, lmao. i'm not at all saying you have to be horny to get good but i think you get results from fun + fixation, because when you care a lot about the details and when you care about capturing specific stuff that you're excited about (in any way), that comes through in your drawings. so when ur deciding on how to stylize, pay attention to what little details about ur area of focus are really cute/interesting/appealing to you, and find ways to emphasize that!

honestly part of that means focus on posing as well as whatever you're doing with anatomy/stylization -- i have a thing i affectionately call the "ira neck thrust" that my friends are constantly calling me out for and it's basically just the tits and ass back arch that i'm so fond of. of course u end up noticing how i draw this area when i'm constantly drawing attention to it and making things cheesecake-y specifically to show it off, lol!

beyond that i think the summary of the rest of the notes is just to find ways to lay things out so that it's easy for you to place the shapes and details you want to stylize/emphasize. i like drawing thighs with pronounced upper muscle; i often stylize the lower half of the torso + hips with multiple repeating curves to emphasize that shape. i love hip creases and visual cues on how the thighs are moving, so i usually don't miss an opportunity to draw those in (and to pose/costume in a way that specifically shows it off, again). my anatomy in this area is usually so stylized and unrealistic that, while of course i make a lot of these decisions from a foundation of figure drawing, a ton of the actual impact/final look is just coming from style choices!

(i also only have time to throw together one example, but these things should still generally ring true for bodies of any type/size; "bony" landmarks exist regardless of weight and will show up on larger bodies as areas where tendons + muscle anchor to the bone, which can have a lot of influence on folds + the shapes of body fat, and it's always a good idea to study reference and decide from there how to stylize. "morpho: fat and skin folds" is a great anatomy book for this.)

i feel like this is all i have energy 2 throw together at the moment and it's so specific to how i draw that i'm not sure how helpful it'll be lol but!! maybe i will come back to this another day if i think of anything else. also i guess here is one final summary of why i think this method works for me

all my male sims (masc or fem looking; Adam, Xion, Moa) are made in masculine frames

I don't use alpha skin, but skin overlays. I find it easier to layer makeup and skin details

all of these are my personal preferences, so back to you again for which you want to take from me

Tutorial undercut

One - choosing skin overlay

First thing I always be choosing skin overlay. I always use Obscurus skin, sometimes Darkstone. I don't like cartoonish looking, but I don't make it way too realistic, so I like it in between realistic and animate. I choose other skin details very later.

Two - head size & body propotions

After it I choose body preset. After it I will using the EA slider on left whether make it like I want to.

So.. I do really think that EA makes the head size big lol. So I will resize the head using the slider on forehead from afar (zoom out), then make it "slim" by drag the slider to center (still zoom out). Most of the times I max it, but there are sims that I made a liiiiitle bit wider.

See what I mean, right?

If the sim is not tall enough or too short for the character I want to make, I will slider it to using slider in the back of leg

I also slider the back so the sim doesn't have a hunchback. Then usually I will slimmer the neck to max

For fingers I also slide it smaller according to which kind of sim. If I want to make it fragile and delicate, I will slider it to max. If I want to make it masculine still, (or slender) I will slider it until I got the good result I want.

I don't really pay attentions to feet sizes lol, sometimes but rarely, I will slide it smaller or bigger.

Body reshaping is up to my liking actually. Making the shoulders wide or not, it's depend on the sim itself too afterall. So i don't know what to write (u_u;). This guy tho, you can see what I made him like what in introduction post

Three - choosing eyebrows & face presets

I do this freely actually, depends on the character itself. There are no differences choosing between masc and fem male sims. All is back to the character, even the jaw and chin presets. I do all that in sliding proccess (making it look feminine or masculine). I use both EA Presets or cc creators presets.

Four - eyebrows & face features shaping/sliders

Actually the process is -> chose preset for one feature -> shape it -> chose preset for another feature -> shape it, but ye lol :3

For eyes, I always slider them smaller, usually max or near to max. Depends again. Sometimes I imagine few sims to extra eyelids tape that makes eyes appear really big (see : Taiga & Asakusa).

If you notice it, in this post my sims have different eye sizes

For nose, usually I will make bigger or smaller as I like (depends on character). But the important is to keep the ratio of the face nicely. Don't make the nose too high or too low. There should be enough gap for lips and nose.

*btw I did the change of skin color after hand reshaping

For eyebrows, is as I said above. Also, it's all depend on the sim face and the makeup look (especially for my vkei sims), so idk what should I say (*´・▿・)ゞ

For mouth, i always make it smaller a bit using the slider on corner of mouth (face zoom out), and make it wider as needed (face zoom out). I always make my sims have relaxed mouth, not frowning but not smiling either. Zoom in shaping is also used of course.

For chin, cheeks, jawline etc. Pay attention to it. I slider it little by little as needed. Chin doesn't have to be small. But for this guy, I made it a lil bit smaller. See the chin or jaw shapes in this post.

Important!! I always size up or down(? the head until it have nice ratio with the teeth. (zoom out face)

Four - choosing skin details (face & body)

Honestly I do this freely.... if it fits then it fits... lol. Oh also in this part, if I think I should change the skin overlay, then i do it.

Eye details -> if the skin overlay has no eyelids and I want the sim to have it, i'll give them eyelids cc. If I want the sim has eyebags I will give it. Just tiiiiny bit detail. Eyelids cc I use is from Dalsuk and Obscurus. Alsooo, this one is important, I use sclera cc too. I also use eyedepth sometimes.

Also katrina-y eyesocket is good. Sometimes i use it. (See: Xion & Asakusa)

Nose mask/details -> I use nosemask from Obscurus and ddarkstone, faeesih. Depending which suit the best. Not much given to the nose actually.

Mouth details -> i use mouth/smile mask(? from miiko and pralinesims (not always, only if needed). This guy used from miiko

hairline -> I use from setsuki (this time I forgot to gave him hairline but it doesn't show since the hair was covering..

body details -> it depends on the character.. (again). I recommed moonchildlovesthenight abs mask if you want to make muscular sim. This guy though, I didn't add anything to body details.

After reshaping face features and add skin details~ I really like the nose.

Five - makeup

How should I describe this part? ( ;´ - `;) it depends on the sim itself. What do you want them to be? But I prepared two option

One is "heavy" look type, like.. some neo-vkei bandmen (I was trying to imitate one of Shiyu from Ashmaze makeup :'D. I need more makeup cc..). But you can also look at my other sims. "Heavy" makeup will carry the atmosphere the sim gives. Take look at Nozomi in this post. He looks mysterious, dark and gloomy.

I will list the makeup cc used, but I'm too tired to link.. zzzzzz

So when i saved this guy I actually deleted the first makeup look... I forgot to add the eyelashes back again..

Other tips

Give your male sims eyelashes! Big or not, natural or not.

Use every prossible sliders that is available!

I sit at my desk as I record a Fortnite video with Danny, Simon and Josh.

I go through my locker as the three talk.

“Y/n hurry up and pick a fucking skin” Danny groans.

“Shut up Danny wait..” I respond in a distracted tone.

I scroll through my locker and settle on panda team leader.

I ready up and sip my water.

“Simon don’t take all my kills again either.” I shoot as I adjust my position.

Josh laughs and Danny speaks up before Simon.

“Wait- you two play together?” He asks a little confused to which Simon laughs.

“Thanks for watching my videos mate.”

Later on when playing I look at Josh’s skin and do the high five emote, Simon is still recording and he does the emote with me.

Josh laughs and pipes up “you coming to the party next week? I know you said you might but..”

“Hm? Oh yeah probably don’t wanna miss that- it’s important for you lot so-“

Danny cuts in quickly. “Can we go together y/n you don’t live too far away from me.” Simon hums in acknowledgement at Danny’s eagerness.

“Sure okay- I’ll message you, you can come mine and have some pre drinks with me.”

After that recording I did a few more on the same scenes to clear my schedule knowing how pissed I’ll get, recording a video with Deji just a simple TikTok reaction:

“Eugh- dej! That guy is so- mmmm- eww look.”

I say as beavo eating rice comes up.

“When I first saw him he actually made me physically gag at my phone- he’s rank.”

I say in a passionate tone and he laughs loudly.

“Would- you do the same content?” He cuts himself off from his laughs.

I chuckles and shake my head.

“Nah then I’d have to pay for an editor because I can’t watch myself do that..” I shake my head.

“Wait you edit all your own videos?” He says to me sincerely.

“And your other channels?”

“Yeah! I edit for my main, second and I mod my own social medias, while I pay Danny Aaron’s editor to do my twitch shit so- yeah,” I hum as I adjust my hair.

“Oh cool- Kay then.”

The next day when I was getting my clothes ready for the next day I got a FaceTime call from Danny, answering it wouldn’t be a problem, would help me pass the time.

I answer and smile into the phone, propping it upon my monitor as I logged around my room, AirPods in.

“Hey Danny!”

I call as I look for a dress.

“Hi- what you doing?” He responds, taking an inward breath.

“Pickin’ an outfit for tomorrow dunno to go for pink or white..” I let a ghost of a smile wonder on my lips as I shift through my many clothes.

“Pink- you look p- pinks a better colour especially in dresses, anyway.”

He says and I pop my head back into frame, my freckles dusting my face and light blue yes looking into the camera.

“Alright- yeah you’re probably right I’ll pick some stocking then we can talk, yeah?”

I pick a light pink play suit, white stockings and white flats, I put my outfit down and talk to Danny through it, after that I sat at my desk and spoke to him, a gentle tone in his voice which seemed to be only present around certain people.

“What’re you wearing Danny?”

I say after a couple minutes of silence on the call, my attention taken up by the sims.

“I dunno- cargos and a shirt. Yeah.”

The next day as I get out the shower, I put my clothes on and start on my makeup I get a knock on my door.

“Come in Danny! I’m in my room!”

I shout and I hear my door open and footsteps ascending toward my room.

He leaks his head round and gives me a cheesy grin.

“Hey y/n.”

He was in a crisp white shirt with a blue spray paint font smiley face at the back. He was in black cargos and to match his shirt, crisp white airforces.

“You look smart, Mr Aarons.” I smile and he smiles back, sitting in my bed.

“You look pretty, miss l/n.” He retorts, the grin not leaving his face.

We speak as I do my makeup, about videos, friends, family, us.

Mad I finish my makeup I order him to get the drinks from my kitchen as long as some glasses.

I smile as I face my chair toward the bed where he sits, pouring a vodka coke.

“You excited? I’m looking forward to it.”

I Say with a cheeky grin, leaning forward slightly and sipping it.

He smiles and nods.

I lean back and smile, flicking my light brown hair behind my shoulder.

“When should I call the Uber, n/n?”

“15 minutes let’s get the buzz.”

I grin at him.

Over the next 15 minutes, the two got laughs in, and Danny even getting a confidence boost.

In the taxi, Danny let his arm hand loosely across Y/ns shoulders.

Getting out the car and getting let into the party the two going their separate ways for a bit, the boys had rented a decent club in north London at a lot of people were there, A LOT.

Y/n went to go talk to george Clarkey and then Talia.

After mingling around she was getting tipsy and when in this state she got very giggly.

“H-hey-“ I turn around and find Danny’s eyes, his ones deep and hazy, clearly already intoxicated.

“Hi darlin’…” he murmured as his hands find my shoulders, his head falling slightly.

“Danny? You okay?” I say as I inch closer to him.

“Y/n- I just-“ he says and closes his eyes briefly.

“I think-“ he sighs

“I can’t help falling in love with you..”

I look at him and feel my face flush, I get on my tiptoes and kiss his cheek.

“I love you too..”

He smiles lazily and brings me into a passionate kiss, oddly coordinated from the intoxication.

I wrap my arms around his neck and he keeps moving his lips with mine, meanwhile, Ethan goes up to josh and elbows him slightly.

“Never guess who I just saw tonguing it on?” He says with an almost proud look.

“What? Simon and Talia? Vikk and Ellie? Uh- Lannan and ilsa?” He replies sipping his drink and side eyeing Ethan for a confirmation.

“Nope- Danny Aarons himself and miss Y/n l/n”

Josh sputters and looks at Ethan “fuck off.”

The next morning where Danny had stayed at Y/ns their words weren’t forgotten, a simple but gentle feel to the air, a new found tensions, just bellow awkward.

Finally approaching him as he was getting ready to leave she spoke with reluctance.

“Do- did you mean what you said or- well, and did, or was it just the alcohol, Danny?”

With no hesitation he shook his head: “I meant it, every word, every kiss, I- do love you- if that’s okay?”

I smile and feel my face heat up again.

“That’s okay..”

so i was talking to this guy i met on a dating app (my friends were like go for it you’ve never been on a date) and we were talking for like 4 weeks we both have very busy schedules. yesterday he asks if im free on sunday so we can finally meet. i tell him yes, ask him for the details of the date. then i ask him to pick me up since he has a car and he says it’ll be a long drive for him and that he could pick me up from the train station. (but the restaurant is like a 15 min walk from there which to me is unnecessary) and that i probably won’t feel comfortable dressing up nice to get on the train, so i should wear something casual and should tell him if that works for me. i tell him i don’t want to get onto public transport and ask if he could get me a ride (thinking this won’t be a problem at all since the guy works everyday all day a 30 dollar uber won’t be nothing😭) and so then he says ‘hmm never mind lol’ and so im a lil surprised because i’ve voiced the fact that 1 i don’t have a car and the train journey will be over an hour and is quicker by car. 2 i wanted to look good for our date so why is he asking me to dress casual?? 3 why is the uber suddenly off putting like i asked him to pay my rent lol wtf (also please bare in mind that i’m a 20 year old student and he’s a 28 and works full time) do u think was i asking for too much? wasn’t really fond of him but id like to know for future reference.

I don’t think that you are asking for too much at all. Knowing that you were communicating with him from a dating app already indicates(to me) that he’s a low effort type of man. I know some people have success with dating apps, but the vast majority of men on there are there because they can easily talk to(a lot of) women that they would never have the courage to approach in real life. Think about it like this: why would he go out of his way to send you an Uber if all he had to do to talk to you was swipe his phone screen? Imagine if he saw you in person one day and he was a nervous wreck thinking when would be the right time to approach you and get your phone number or social media? He replayed the scenario multiple times in his head until he finally made the bold move to come up to you and say something that would be perfect to break the ice. He went through ALL OF THAT, just to tell you “hmm never mind lol.” I highly doubt that if he did all of that, he would not send you an Uber. Instead, he would be thinking to himself that he went through a stressful emotional roller coaster to get your attention and that he didn’t do all that work for NOTHING. So that $30 Uber? He’ll be thinking that’s nothing to him and make it a luxury vehicle while he’s at it.

Again, I am not discrediting those who have success with dating apps. I’m simply giving you my perspective on why I believe MOST of the men on those platforms are not serious. I do not think you did anything wrong or absurd on your part, and any man who asks you to lower your standards (especially when you’re being perfectly reasonable) is not worth entertaining.

Vader x F!Reader

(A/N: ILL BE OFF MY HURT COMFORT BINGE SOON DW, but the slow burn is finally starting to spark!!! also if u get a chance i’d love ur input on the question in the a/n at the end!)

You comfort Vader after his fight with Obi-Wan and he has some revelations

You requested he had at least a week to recover, which the emperor surprisingly agreed to. He needed to heal physically and emotionally.

You moved him to his room, which he never really got much use from. You spent each moment with him, letting him work through his thoughts, changing bandages, and just keeping him company. You wanted him to get better so he could be back to himself, but you enjoyed being able to spend time with him.

The more you were around him the more your heart hurt. You were beyond falling in love, now your heart was pained by how much you yearned for him. But everytime you were close to telling him how you felt, your fears of rejection and the unknown held you back. You didn’t know if your heart could handle it if he rejected you, so you settled for this limbo.

Presently, Vader was lying in his rarely used bed, pristine sheets covering his lower half. Today you helped him put on his arms since their repairs were finished, but you left his legs off because they needed more fine tuning. He was without his mask and left only in undergarments to allow his wounds to breathe. He slowly began providing details about his past and how he and his former master split.

“I tried to tell him that from my perspective, the Jedi were evil. They used me for years, they used him, but he didn’t want to hear it” Vader spoke from his bed as you walked around his room.

You understood their relationship was an intricate one, you understood Vader’s hatred of his old master, but you could also feel his pain. He truly cared for Obi Wan.

“After the incident on Mustafar, I could not rest until I found him. He did this to me. He took everything.”

You could see from his perspective and Obi-Wan’s. Anakin was taken advantage of and to him, Obi-wan ruined his life. But it was his own actions that led to many complications in his old life. And Obi Wan should have payed more attention to Anakin’s shift and been there for him, but he was only following his morals, just as Anakin was.

You walked over to him and placed a gentle hand on his cheek, he stopped talking and met your gaze. The frustration and pain in his face subsided momentarily. He placed a metal hand on your forearm as you thought about how to comfort him. Slowly, but swiftly you wrapped your arms around him and rested your head in the crook of his neck.

“Well, I’m here if you need anything” you whispered, tightening your grip.

Vader was caught off guard. You were embracing him, comforting him. His heart began to flutter, thank the stars he wasn’t hooked up to the vital machine or else it would be beeping like crazy.

He slowly leaned into your touch and lightly placed his steel appendages around your waist. He relaxed and breathed in your calming scent. Lavender mint with a dash of sea breeze.

“Thank you, F/N” he said to you, as you rose from his side.

He debated risking it all just to tell you how ethereal you were. But he was too afraid. How could you come to love someone as vile as him. He was fearful of your response. He lost everything he held dear, he didn’t want to lose you too.

If he only knew.

You smiled at him, “always.”

The more time you spent with him the more you noticed the yellowish hues in his irises had subsided. What was left were the eyes of Anakin.

Your Ani.

You got back up and began meddling with some stuff on the desk. “Do you ever tire of being the fear striking Lord Vader?” You asked.

He laid his head back onto his pillow and stared at the ceiling as he let out a sigh.

“I am contempt with my duties, though sometimes I tire of the cowardice everyone shows in my presence.”

You giggled, “Well you are pretty intimidating Ani. The first time we reunited you almost choked me to death”.

Though you were lighthearted with the statement, he cringed. That incident deeply troubled him, how could he do that to you?

His F/N.

“And for that I am more regretful than you know, F/N. I am truly sorry.”

He was beyond ashamed of the incident and quickly steered away from that conversation.

“Do you remember the soup my mother used to make?” Vader asked as you turned to face him.

“Of course I do! It was only the most delicious thing in all the galaxy! I especially liked when she’d shape the bread that went with it into tiny animals.” You beamed reminiscing about the delectable meal.

“Wow, I did not expect you to remember it so fondly.” Vader quipped.

“I remember Watto craved it so often he made me try to recreate it. Obviously I never could get it quite like the Shmi Skywalker” you responded.

He smiled to himself, this past didn’t hurt to remember.

“Oh! What was it? Do you remember what your mom used to say about us? she used to say it all the time” You asked, you remembered what she said, she said you two would be married. You always blushed when she would tease, but it made you feel happy every time she would. You just wanted to know if he remembered it.

He rested his hand over his mouth and laughed. “That I do. How could I forget, “Mrs. Skywalker” he teased.

You stopped in your tracks, he was always a smooth guy, but damn, you forgot how much of a tease he was. You blushed, but hoped he didn’t notice.

“Yes, she always did say we would be wed” he chuckled to himself.

Masking the excitement the best you could you agreed, “Yes! That’s it, that’s what she said! Haha, how could I forget? I mean we were the best looking pair in Mos Espa.” Now it was his turn to blush

“Indeed” he said, he could feel his lungs working overtime to compensate for his fast heart rate. He could feel himself wheezing.

You quickly picked up on his discomfort and grabbed an oxygen mask to place over his face. He thanked you and focused on regulating his breathing. You nodded and began to start the nightly routine of cleaning around his ports and rubbing the ointments into his skin.

This routine had become quite comforting for the both of you. He loved to feel your gentle hands over his battered body and you loved just to be close to him. __________________________________________

You spent the last two nights in his room, sleeping on a chair close to his bed so you could monitor him periodically throughout the night. The chair was not comfortable whatsoever, but you would sleep there if it meant helping him in any way. He seemed to have nightmares, but he never woke up because of them. But tonight was different.

Around midnight you were awoken by heavy breathing and thrashing. You cracked your eyes open and dimly saw Vader fighting in his sleep. This nightmare was different though, he was muttering a string of “No’s”and “Please’s”. You walked towards his bedside through the dark of the room, you began to sit by his side as he shot up.

He winced at the sudden movement and gasped when you placed a hand on his shoulder. Instinctively he initiated the force to protect himself. You felt your air passage cutting off, before he noticed it was you. He immediately released his hold and began to pant, “sorry! I-I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m-“.

He was shaking violently, you didn't care about what just happened, you understood having instincts, nothing to apologize for. “It’s ok Ani, It was a dream, You’re ok”

You drew him into your chest as you held the back of his head with your hand. He desperately clung onto you and burrowed his face into you. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry” he kept repeating.

You held him tight and ran a hand down his back soothingly, careful of the saber burn near his shoulders. You let him cry into you as you comforted him.

“It’s ok Ani, It’s ok.” You cooed as he began to calm down. “Do you want to talk about it?” You asked him, tilting his face towards yours.

He hesitated before shaking his head. You were too pure to be burdened with his fears. You nodded and continued to hold him, his steel digits grasping at the fabric of your nightgown.

After he calmed down you began to head back to your chair before he grabbed your wrist.

“Wait. Please don’t leave me.” He pleaded. “C-could you lay with me?”

Of course you would. You would do anything for this man.

You nodded and hopped in under the covers next to him. You turned on your side to face him, but before you could roll all the way over you felt his tight embrace around you. He breathed you in and sighed into your hair. He felt safe.

“Ani, are you sure you’re alright?” You asked, turning in his arms to face him. His eyes were clenched shut, but slowly softened and opened to look at you.

“Now that you’re here, I am.” He said once before closing his eyes again. You rested your head on his broad chest and welcomed his warmth. You felt happy. You provided him comfort and if you couldn’t be his love, at least you could be something to him.

After a while you shifted to having your foreheads touching. He had descended into sleep once more, but he still had a comfortable grip on you. You admired him secretly as you peeped open your eyes. He looked so peaceful, so beautiful. He was always a beautiful boy, even now just as he was.

Without thinking you tilted up to kiss his forehead. The sensation of his scarred face felt different on your soft lips, but it felt good nonetheless. You felt comforted by his presence. If you could just stay like this forever, playing house in your mind. You wanted this to be your new normal, you wanted-__________________________________________

On the other end of the kiss there was Anakin. He wasn’t fully asleep, he was waiting for the chance to gaze upon your sleeping face. Instead he felt your lips on his face.

Your lips.

He could have melted on the spot. There was such a tenderness to your kiss, he could feel the way your breath hitched once you backed away.

Were you nervous?

No, he’s the nervous one here.

Was it possible that you harbored similar feelings to his own? Could you care for him in the way he did for you?

No.

He couldn’t. He didn’t know if he could open himself up to love again. Yet he heard a small, distant voice in the back of his mind, “Go ahead, let her in, Ani.”

Padme.

She gave him her blessing to move on. She encouraged him to go to you.

He was free.

can I ask for some advice? no worries if u don't want to answer.

do you have any tips on how exactly to practice art? everytime I ask for art advice everyone always says "practice" but idk what to practice first! do you have any strategies for learning how to draw something? do you do excercises? and if so how do they work?and are there any beginner mistakes I should look out for and change specifically?

thank you so much! im ok w answering! i dont want to speak as if i am an expert on how to draw things in general as i am learning as well and definitely am not completely learned, so i might not be the best person to ask since im not very professional w my art as I do it as a hobby (and I can only speak on mostly digital cartoon matters) but i reallly hope to try and help u out even a lil ! im really happy that you’re eager to draw :] I wish you so much luck muwah muwah

i also hated when ppl told me “just practice” and i dont wanna inflict tht on u EITHER LOL but also thats just what i ended up doing for awhile but i tried to find some things to help ^_^

tips for practice: My number one rule is that practices should be challenging but still fun, I know it can get frustrating trying to redraw a pose over and over trying to get it perfect. And over time it rlly is all about muscle memory, the longer you draw the more your eyes will pick out specific shapes in everyday life and convert them into its own vision of them! or at least its good to look at life that way, try to pin point key shapes and stress less on details in practices. after you look at key points, THEN you can go over what you have and draw in and over it to make it more “complete.” To stop practices from getting too stressful I recommend starting out drawing what you want a little more simple looking than ur desired finished product. This helps eliminate the pressure of everything not looking “perfect” and keeps your art more loose and fun. Doing this a few times is gonna get ur brain to recognize patterns in art and how things look/flow in anatomy and such. dont get stuck in ur own head abt perfecting everything to the point you either 1) give up bc ur not at a level capable of it being 100% “perfect” or 2) focus so much on making it perfect that you end up saying the work looks “wonky” or stale in dynamics, So while I do think studies help, don’t get too lost in them. I always practice with media I enjoy too, whether it’s characters or fashion I enjoy.

Strategies learning to draw something: people get mad abt this one but I think tracing reference photos is great. its been awhile but When I tried learning to draw hands better at first I would trace them then put the traced image to the side of the canvas, then try and replicate what my mind saw as its most important angles and aspects. Same for clothing folds/hair/etc! I think it’s maybe not the best idea to trace the ref and use the tracings as is, because you learn more from tracing it then trying to replicate and simplify what u learned into the style you’re working in. Find what shapes you like from them and don’t over detail it. you may have to go by eye and think “what parts of this ref photo should i simplify to fit my style” and for me, its usually adjusting the length of the torso and then the limbs by associations. i dont recommend feeling like u need a reference for every art you make though, its ok to let ur own head try out its own sometimes too while trying to learn this, see if it remembers any call bad from the past referenced sketches! over time ull remember where everything goes more, these days i rarely kick myself to use refs but im sure they still would help to use, but figure drawing simple blobby figure in a bunch of random poses was a big thing i used to do as well to get better at full body art + overall dynamics (still does this). also paying attention to silhouettes is great

Exercises and how they work: I WANNA HELP U SO BAD BUT to be honest, all the works on my blog ARE exercises! i rarely actually do finished pieces, if u scroll thru my posts ull notice most r sketches. i usually just fill up a page and call it “warm ups” then i get attached to some of them, take a few, and just line them up pleasingly on a smaller page, then color them in (or sometimes fix the lines to be more clean too). im not rlly a person who “exercises” to practice, it more so happens from just me drawing a lot for fun as a hobby! but i really should. i will tell u this has humbled me a lil i need to start practicing too 😭 LOL but a good exercise is to look at what ur inspirations do, and study it. Make a collage and write out what you like most abt their styles/what u want to gain from them. For ref Here’s a page I did awhile ago when someone asked me abt my insps:

i also look at fashion magazines and as well as anime figures and take insps from that sometimes with learning cool poses and compositions to convert into my own things

Beginner mistakes to look out for: its hard for me to pin point “mistakes” beginners make, as sometimes we cant avoid all of them or even notice them, progress comes from growing out of old ways. some mistakes are even the foundation of ur future amazing cool style! but i think some things to look out for could be these, from my own old art experiences

Hands were the first thing I learned bc i liked drawing them. I don’t know if that is the best way to go but I think it is smart to practice sooner than later, here is a lil guide thingggyyy wingyyy from awhle ago

i see beginners shy away from drawing signs of age in people, sometimes adding too much detail on an older person in cartoon art makes it look weird, so i try and hit the key markings on ppls faces of age.

Too thin of lines. sometimes its a stylistic choice to use thin lineart, and it can look amazing ! but sometimes it can flatten an image if ur not familiar with its flow. im not saying use thick line art, but more so to keep in mind the weight of ur strokes, adding depth with a thick thin combo of line art can do SO much for the simplest of pieces. heres a visual from a while back when i talked abt my brush + more abt lines:

but if ur desired style is thin lineart that is cool too! tbh it was just harder for me as a beginner

sometimes artists think they need to do full lineart for everything and then hate how it looks compared to the sketch, do not fear i will introduce u to my bff: painting over a sketch, extractinging the lines, then calling it line art. i only do this sometimes but its a fun exercise-ish thing to do in a pinch. example:

finding what shading fits ur art. sometimes ill see ppl starting out who have a style thats very simple, but they use a very detailed rendering process on it. this is not something id ever police of course, art is each persons own choice! And it CAN work. It can be so cute! but sometimes mixing two very contrasting mediums of art can throw off the “put together” look of it. i use to abuse the airbrush tool thinking it made my simple style look super cool and detailed, but looking back on it now those pieces looked a little off, having such a simple style have somewhat more realistic shading. dont get me wrong the ability i see ppl use rendering like that is so insanely talented! but i found cellshading to be a good match for cartoony art like my own. a tip i learned way too late abt that is rather than shading each layer by color picking a darker color, instead use a clipping mask over the entire art (above line art too as I color my lineart) and lasso tool the areas u want shaded + fill it w a saturated purple then set to multiply + lower opacity. also, sometimes coloring can come out chalky looking when u meant for it to be smooth and transitional, i think this comes from overshading and overlighting pieces without reason. pay attention to where the light source is, and focus on making the shaded and lighter areas nice shapes that cover the necessary areas, then u can add additional shading to the smaller details of what should have a casted shadow/light

its good to spice up ur art now rather than later, focusing making ur art pop more w backgrounds will help ur coloring skills look better too! i dont mean detailed huge backgrounds, a small lil color pallet and design rather than a blank white bg. like this will make u feel better abt it or at least it helped me *sweats* yeah:

beginners tend to draw blank faces like “:)” but I think a good thing to do is try and get silly with expressions early on. It’s okay if the mouth hangs off the face cartoonishly with joy or shock, it’s ok if the eyebrows are super high in surprise.

tracing and pasting it as is (already said this but I’ve seen ppl do it a lot with hair styles and it makes it look alienated from the rest of the style) (final fantasy fans found critically injured) n if need a ref for a pose, using a real humans anatomy as-is doesn’t look quite right on a cartoonyish drawing. Shortening torso and legs usually comes out of this for me!

flip ur canvas i promise u it’ll be less embarrassing over time!

using guidelines for perspective and foreshortening is GREAT. Do it stylistically rather than realistically to add some groove to it...yay. Having silly perspective in art can make it look like a 10 so easily opposed to a normal front facing sketch. Look at cool poses from fashion magazines! Don’t be scared to draw something you don’t feel confident in conveying perfectly, this is why progress redraws exist :)

Drawing the hairline b4 u draw the hair is great, it helps u understand where their hair flows from, where it starts and stops, AND prepares u for drawing bald ppl. Also don’t make the head too big, the skull IS bigger up top, but sometimes I see an alien head affect.

Anatomy is an interesting mistake that beginners make a lot, but it’s one they find harder to notice! When I started out, all my art would be SO wonky, but I didn’t even realize it! It still happens today too! specifically though I see beginners struggle with the arms in this department. My advice is to try and measure them out and make sure they don’t go past the knees, and are the same length as each other when Unfolded. asking for criticism is hard but it helped me realize when i would make something bigger/longer than it should have been in my art, and stuck with me being able to go “oh... i see it LOL”

clothing wrinkles- do not over do it! Too many wrinkles and shading can look unpleasant and wirey- like a plastic table cloth all bunched up which isn’t exactly what ppl wear. pay attention to gravity too
