Also people want to say all Taylor Swift cares about is making money.. the kpop industry literally only exists to make money. These groups are created out of people that half the time couldn’t give less of a shit about each other. They crank out music and stuff for people to buy multiple times a month. That’s all it’s for. It’s for making money. At least Taylor or any other non kpop artist are trying to tell some stories about their lives. It just feels like a more honest way to consume music if you get my meaning.
girl 😭😭😭😭 any industry is about making money 😭😭 also honest way to consume music??? wtf does that even mean 😭😭😭 and not the bullshit western artist aren't manufactured they have real artistic integrity and authenticity argument on top of all of that 😭😭😭

I had the amazing opportunity this weekend to visit my family homestead in Colorado and explore the house my great grandparents grew up in.
This is where we filmed the video for
“Alien Coming Of Age Story”

@mothercain I couldn’t stop thinking about you this whole trip. How could I not have Preacher’s Daughter on my mind? Your impact on this next generation of singers and songwriters is palpable.

"I'm pretty when I cry"
The track starts out sounding like the average acoustic guitar pop song, leading listeners to believe Rodrigo's sophomore album is more partial to the pop genre, as everyone expected her to venture into and become the next big pop girl. However, the track gradually shifts after the halfway mark into something more. It transforms into a punky, screamy riot grrrl track filled with prominent drums, guitar riffs and beautiful lyricism about not fitting into western culture but trying to do so anyway. It sets the tone for the album with a perfect blend of pop and pop-punk elements.
track-by-track: all-american bitch • bad idea right? • vampire • lacy • ballad of a homeschooled girl • making the bed • logical • get him back! • love is embarrassing • the grudge • pretty isn’t pretty • teenage dream

Roger Troutman (November 29, 1951 – April 25, 1999, also known as Roger, was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, multi-instrumentalist and the founder of the band Zapp who helped spearhead the funk movement and heavily influenced West Coast hip hop due to the scene's heavy sampling of his music over the years. Troutman was well known for his use of the talk box, a device that is connected to an instrument (frequently a keyboard, but most commonly a guitar) to create different vocal effects. Roger used a custom-made talkbox—the Electro Harmonix "Golden Throat"—through a Moog Minimoog and later in his career a Yamaha DX100 FM synthesizer. As both band leader of Zapp and in his subsequent solo releases, he scored a bevy of funk and R&B hits throughout the 1980s and regularly collaborated with hip hop artists in the 1990s.

Whenever I'm feeling discouraged or I'm doubting myself, I find myself comparing my art to people I idolise- Taylor Swift, Lin-Manuel Miranda etc. And one thing that really helps with that is listening to their demo tracks- the ones they reccorded in their tiny little home studios with very basic equipment.
It makes me realise that the versions of them that we see are the polished, filtered versions- never that first draft.
I'm very much in the "demo" stages of my music. Everything that I put out right now will sound like I recorded it in my bedroom at 3am using a sock pulled over a coat-hanger as a pop shield, because that's what I did. I will get better with time, practice, and money for better equipment. Right now, though, there’s no harm in putting what I’m doing out there anyway.
There's no point in comparing myself to the Original Broadway Cast Recording of Hamilton, because that's way beyond what I'm even close to accomplishing, but listening to the Hamilton Demos, I can get a good idea of where I'm supposed to be at the moment, in my first, second, third drafts.
Every piece of art, whether it's crochet or writing or painting or music, will start with the first draft. Trust the process, and one day that shitty little demo will become your masterpiece :)

Today's lil' Elvis Music Gem🙏
youtube
Yes, again with more Back In Memphis! But this time we've got "And the Grass Won't Pay No Mind" and the interesting Neil Diamond-filled story of the famed American Sound Studio sessions.
In 1969 just the day after his Elvis' 34th birthday when Elvis was planning his return to music recording, Marty Lacker successfuly convinced Elvis to skip on Nashville and to instead give Chips Moman and his Memphis-based American Sound Studio a chance. When Elvis agreed (without even consulting the Colonel first) but with a tight turn around, Moman had to reschedule the recording sessions of Neil Diamond that had already been set just four days out. "Fuck Neil Diamond, he'll just have to be postponed. Tell Elvis he's on." Moman told Lacker as he called from the front hall phone at Graceland.
Soon after, during a break in recording due to Elvis' cold turning to laryngitis, Elvis and the guys were going through the demos back at Graceland. When realizing the selection of songs being brought in by the Colonel were aweful Elvis made an important declaration; that from then on he would pick his own music. He asked that everyone be bringing in songs, "... from now on I want to hear every song I can get my hands on, and if I've got a piece of the publishing, that's fine, but if I don't and I want to do the song, I'm going to do it."
And the boys got to work, bringing in new music for Elvis to sample beyond the usual songs that the Colonel had special interests in. George Klein having connections with artists through his TV show then immediately got on the phone with Neil Diamond. He may have been kicked from his original recording slot, but Elvis' prior L.A. next-door neighbor agreed to him singing "And the Grass Won't Pay No Mind" when the sessions resumed in late January and February.

Love for the Lomax Legacy
Lovers of American folk music know and revere the name of Lomax. For over a century and four generations this family has devoted itself to the discovery, preservation, and dissemination of the People’s Voice. It began with John A. Lomax (1867-1948). Raised on a Texas farm, with roots in Mississippi and North Carolina, Lomax brought the farm ethic of dawn-to-dusk hard work to the project of…
