Fanfics - Update as you go or finish then post?

Hi readers/ writers of fanfiction!

What is your preference when it comes to fanfictions? Do you prefer fics that update as they go along, but you may have to wait between chapters? Or would you rather have a fully completed fic to read?

For writers specifically who update as they go, I often go back and edit chapters to flesh out character interactions or add nods to future plot points/foreshadowing. I keep worrying about that for one of my longer fics that I know people are waiting on. How do you deal with this?

it’s very much WIP right now, so i’m not sure how many it’ll have just yet, but i do know it’s going to be relatively slow burn, so it’ll probably have many 😭😭

it’s all planned out (no clear cut ending yet , but every big thing that is going to happen) and i’ve made it really clear to myself in my notes that i want it to sort of take a humorously long time to pan out just bc i’m dealing w some pretty intense characters who have a lot to unpack !

i’m hoping to keep it under 30 but i fear i’ll look back at this post when i’m on chapter 50 and just hang my head and cry /lh

Prince Wilbur has always wanted a little brother. Unfortunately that wasn't possible, he was an only child to the King. So when going on his last tour of the Kingdom before becoming the king and he meets a blonde child. The last thing he expected was to end up with a little brother after all. It jut took a lot of help to get the rest of the orphans good homes so he could have his own little brother.

So Wilbur comes up with his best plan yet, his royal coronation will double as any adoption ceremony for 37 children.

Now he's just left with the challenge of getting Tommy to agree to be a prince.

Or: Tommy's been caring for all the orphans for so long, and Wilbur offers to help. He's oblivious tot he fact that Wilbur is trying to adopt him.
