Hello, surprise, I wrote another time travel fic, but this time, I wanted to try writing Cody instead.
Summary: "CC-2224 opened his eyes and immediately knew that his name was Cody and he was more than his number. He wasn’t gone, not yet.
The second thing he knew was the pain – as if his heart was being torn to pieces – he felt when he met stormy grey eyes and a beloved face.
The third thing he knew was panic."
Or: Cody time travelled but somehow the Force made it less about fixing things and more about love.
(In other words: Obi-Wan is trying his best to take care of Cody, Cody is a darling and there's a bonding time between Anakin and Cody)
Part seven in mixtapes from stewjon series.

THE WAY THIS WAS WOVEN INTO THE STORY WORKS SO WELL. As someone who is aromantic + bisexual/possibly asexual/maybe gray-ace, but who has spent a very long time being “??? I don’t know WHAT I am???” and still has a nebulous feeling of how I’m not 100% settled into what I am, the representation of the queer experience of not having yourself figured out is making me feel seen. It’s part of Obi-Wan’s journey in this book, that he’s at a point where he doesn’t know who he is or what he wants or what he’s meant for, and it’s through his experiences on Lenahra that he comes to understand more about himself, but also that not everything has to be resolved, that it doesn’t just happen once, he’ll be figuring himself out for his entire life, that’s how it works.  Again, I feel so very seen. And I love that it’s just a small part of the story, but an important one.  Obi-Wan is dealing with a lot of things at the moment, and ultimately his role as a Jedi is the most important thing to him, his relationship with the Force even above that, that he comes to embrace himself first and foremost in this story, it balances the nods to his sexuality while also showing that a fixation on romance has never been the true heart of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s story.  His love for the people around him, his love for the entire galaxy, his love for the Force, his love for the Jedi Order, his love for his Jedi friends and his Jedi family, those are front and center in his thoughts even more than anything with romance or sex.  That he just doesn’t know if he feels the pull, but he does feel the pull for the Jedi Order. IT JUST WORKS SO WELL.  You can read so many different things into Obi-Wan’s murky feelings, so many different directions of bisexuality and asexuality/gray-ace and aromantic/gray-aro/demi and the whole POINT is that he’s figuring it out, but whatever he is, his connections with the people around him are foundational to who he is.  You can’t really put him in a single box on this spectrum, only that he’s on it somewhere, and it’s okay to not have a specific point nailed down!  It’s okay that maybe he’ll shift along that spectrum throughout his life! As a queer person who will probably be spending my entire life moving around that spectrum without being able to neatly pin myself down, as someone who has always appreciated that Obi-Wan Kenobi’s true love is his Jedi family and his most precious duty to the people around him, that these things can co-exist in harmony with him, as someone who doesn’t prioritize romance in my life, either, I’m ready to cry for how much this means to me. Because it’s great if you have a specific label for yourself, there’s a ton of meaning in that!  But there’s also an entire journey to be taken to the place of “I don’t know entirely what I am, but I’m okay with that.  I exist in the undefined/nebulously defined spaces. And that place has value to me for being undefined.” ANYWAY JUSTICE FOR US BI/ARO/ACE SPECTRUM PEOPLE WHO DON’T HAVE OURSELVES FIGURED OUT AND EXIST IN UNDEFINED SPACES AND THOSE ARE PERFECTLY GOOD PLACES TO BE, TOO.

i haven't seen anyone post the excerpt onto tumblr yet so here it is (src)
(image description under the cut)
[image 1 id: a photo taken of one of the pages from the padawan novel (transcribed below):
"Oh, I know!" Obi-Wan smiled at the warning, touched that Casul didn't want Obi-Wan getting his hopes up. "I can't form attachments like that, anyway." Couldn't he, though, if he didn't go back? Was that something he would even want? It had always been so forbidden, even thinking about it was like holding his hand right next to a lightsaber blade. He knew some of his friends had dabbled in physical relationships—suspected Siri would have been open to it, had he ever wanted to—but it had always seemed like an obstacle, not a temptation.
"And besides," Obi-Wan said, rushing to change the subject for himself more than anyone, "I would never want to be in a relationship with a leader. Too close to politicians or royalty. I'm sure if I ever fell in love, it would be with someone calm. Peaceful. Easy to get along with."
"So you want someone who doesn't challenge you."
Obi-Wan laughed, then shrugged. "I don't know what I want, if we're being honest."
Casul mirrored his shrug. "Not many choices around here. I don't think love is in my future, either, and I'm fine with that. As long as I have the Power to keep my family safe, that's enough for me. Though I will admit I've been curious about kissing and why Audj and Zae-Brii enjoy it so much. So if you're ever curious, too, let me know."
/end id]
[image 2 id: another photo taken of one of the pages from the padawan novel, continuing the passage (transcribed below)
Obi-Wan blushed. "I will. Let you know, I mean. Not that I will do that, right now, with you. Or anyone." Would he ever get to a point where kissing someone felt like anything less than a betrayal of himself and the Jedi? And if he did get to that point, who would he want to kiss? The Lenahrans were confident and charismatic, which attractive. But he couldn't imagine just...kissing any of them.
Maybe he didn't want to be with any of them but rather to be more like each of them.
Or maybe he wanted to kiss all of them. Not Mem, though, because he had a feeling that would upset her very much.
He wasn't going to kiss any of them, regardless. Everything on Lenahra seemed simple and felt impossibly complicated, and that would doubtless make it all worse.

Y’all the AMOUNT of discussion around aromantic and asexual identities that opens up with the PADAWAN novel making Obi-Wan queer and providing IN-TEXT evidence for him being on the aro or ace spectrums, while still knowing that Satine Kryze is in his future...
It’s the good shit.
So often we get characters who are coded as aro/ace/aroace/a-spec (or are straight-up confirmed to be so, like Jughead) only to have that ripped away from us when a love interest is confirmed. And that love interest “saves” them from whatever was wrong with them before.
The fact that with Obi-Wan, we get a relationship that LOOKS hetero and allo on the surface, but diving deeper we learn that it’s queer? That it belongs to us a-spec folks too?
It’s not just about getting a headcanon confirmed. It’s about being seen, and it’s beautiful.
I’ve already seen so many bi-ace, bi-aro, greyace, aro, etc. people on Twitter joyful that Obi-Wan, a pillar of not just the Star Wars franchise but of film itself, is like them. One person I saw learn about the term “aromantic” because of this conversation, and they began crying because they finally found the term to describe themselves. They finally learned they weren’t broken, because Obi-Wan was like them.
And I cannot stress how important it is that Satine exists and is a part of Obi-Wan’s future for this.
Because Satine specifically opens up conversations about what it looks like to be on the aromantic and asexual spectrums. How can Obi-Wan be aro or ace or aroace if Satine exists?
Oh how exciting!! Because now there’s the Split Attraction Model we can discuss! Or perhaps we can discuss the spectrums themselves, introduce you to demi and grey identities! Or hey, hey, have you heard about queerplatonic commitments? There are so many ways that Obi-Wan can be
aromantic
asexual
on either or both spectrums
or completely aromantic and asexual with no romantic or sexual attraction whatsoever
and still desire a relationship with Satine.
Obi-Wan being aro/ace/aroace/a-spec in a canon with Satine in his future allows for an exploration of the spectrums that not even Leox Gyasi and his beautiful, full-blown asexual speech provides.
Obitine is a queer, a-spec couple, and that is fucking beautiful.

I need to rant about Star Wars making aroace-spec!Obi-Wan canon because this hellsite needs to know what that means to bi/pan-oriented aroaces.
To preface, I have been a huge Obi-Wan fan since long before I realized I myself was bi-oriented aroace.
His understanding of love, especially for Satine, is something that had always resonated with me, and I am sure people like me. I never understood why until I realized it was because I shared those views.
I doubt the initial intention of Satine’s character was to highlight this aspect of Obi-Wan’s, but regardless of what Dave Filoni and other writers involved intended, they created a story that was tailored to the aroace experience. A narrative that exalts and celebrates the nature of our love.
Obi-Wan and Satine are two people who loved each other dearly. We know that they spent a whole year with each other as teenagers. But the beauty of it is that the writers never went far into detail of the nature of their love. How much of it was romantic, sexual, or tertiary attraction.
We do know is that it was a deep love that haunted them ~20 years later. We know they both fantasize about abandoning their duties to be with each other. But in the end they put aside their feeling for each other to prioritize their duties. Not because they thought their love was childish or anything, but because they loved each other so much they couldn’t bear to stand in the way of the other’s dreams.
Obi-Wan always wanted to be a Jedi. As established in the High Republic books, a Jedi cannot prioritize the sake of one person over the rest of the galaxy. He, as a Jedi and according to the belief he had subscribed to all his life, could not put Satine over everyone else. Satine could never put him in a situation where he’d have to make that decision.
Satine had an equally grave, but higher profile responsibility. She needed to fix her broken people and lead Mandalore. That could never be possible if she had a Jedi or even a former-Jedi padawan at her side. Obi-Wan could never jeopardize her dream of a prosperous Mandalore.
And so they parted ways. Because they love each other so much, they want the other to be happy, even if it’s without each other. This is something so inherently aromantic: happiness without needing to be with another person.
And what makes it all the more authentic is how complicated their love is. Because being aromantic or asexual doesn’t make you loveless, just more complicated to express conventionally. They prioritized another commitment over their relationship, but that did not diminish their love for each other. We see it when Obi-Wan goes against the council’s orders and runs blindly and foolishly into a trap to rescue Satine. And when in her dying breath Satine professes she’s always loved him, and she always will. Even after 20 years, their love persists. They bickered and flirted constantly, they were gentle with each other, and they gazed at each other like no one else. It’s subtle yet purposeful, and they both understood the dynamic of their relationship. Once they were kids who fooled around, but now they’ve grown into the people they always hoped to become. They know that because of their decision they could never do that to each other. They could never be together. A mandalorian and a Jedi. But this, for them, is enough.
This is the relationship many aroaces, like myself dream about. Something that is just love. No obligation for the conventional rituals of a relationship. But being comfortable in how we embrace our love and attraction (or lack thereof). This kind of relationship hard to come by in entertainment, especially in huge franchises like Star War. It is messy and complex and just as beautiful as any conventional romantic or sexual relationship. And Star Wars still has yet to realize how enlightened it is for people like me.
I accept that back in the 70s, George Lucas never intended to make. I accept that in creating TCW and Satine, Dave Filoni and co. never meant to write an aroace-coded narrative. Yet the story and character of Obi-Wan Kenobi was one aroaces could immediately identify with. Because his understanding of love is not unrealistic or unattainable. It is real and natural. Valid and reasonable enough for them to anchor it to the iconic and beloved character of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Guys
Guys I am so over-the-moon I literally feel queasy--I can't believe it. This is literally my dream come true...my ultimate projectable is canonically like me! And what a huge mood.
"Maybe he didn't want to be with any of them but rather to be more like each of them."
Not knowing whether it's actually attraction or whether there's just a lot about them that you actually like?? That you'd like to see in yourself?? Baby I've been there too many times to count
"Or maybe he wanted to kiss all of them."
Not being able to tell what's going on because your attraction to everyone is equal??? BOY what a fat mood (especially as someone who--if I had to choose a label--would be bi-aroace).
In short I am SCREAMING because we have such well-written representation, at long last, and holy FRICKING HECK IT IS THE ONE CHARACTER WHO I MOST DESPERATELY WANTED TO SEE IT FROM
CANON AROACE OBI-WAN!!!!!!

Prompt Fill sneak peek
a continuation of the past jangobi + obi's padawan ahsoka prompt from oh god two and a half years ago. altho to be fair most of what i'm sharing here was also written two and a half years ago
She holds her wrist behind her back as she stops next to Fett, the man startling at her sudden presence, and he must have been truly distracted to not have heard her approach. “He still has the holo, you know,” she says without preamble, because it’s easy to see who Fett is watching across the camp.
  “Excuse me?”
His accent is a little thicker than the clones’, she notes with a small smile, like he’s never quite let go of Concord Dawn. “The one from Tatooine, after Naboo.”
Out of the corner of her eye, Fett winces. “He’s told you, then?”
“Hardly.” Wrinkling her nose, she watches her master embrace both Anakin and Captain Rex. “But I’ve pieced a lot together, and Master Windu said Anakin’s aunt took the holo.”
“Why are you telling me this?”
“Because you make him sad, which makes me angry. Master Obi-Wan says you had a good reason, even if you haven’t told him all of it, and you better have had a kriffing good reason.” She glances at him, pleased to see him looking appropriately guilty as he follows her gaze to the object of both their affections. “So. Fess up.”
“I don’t owe you banthashit, kid,” he growls, but he’s not walking away either. “If Windu thought to tell you anything, surely he explained the expiration of my contract.”
Ahsoka snorts. “No, not why you didn’t speak to him for ten years; why you’re not speaking to him now. Even Wupi has picked up on the tension, and he's as romantic as a sarlacc pit.”
At the very least, it gets him to pause, and she quickly takes advantage of his waver in surety,
“Fett, if you knew anything about my master, you know he’d never force himself at someone. You were gone for almost a decade, but he didn’t see anyone else; that means something, doesn’t it?” She raises a brow at him, but he still isn’t looking at her.
“I can’t believe I’m getting romantic advice from a child,” Fett seethes, knuckles white around the edge of the gold helmet in his hands. Yet, he still does not walk away.
“If you think Master Obi-Wan took your apology to mean you still wanted him, you’re actually as stupid as Cody thinks you are.”

wip wednesday
aro obi had me in a chokehold today
“Did you ever love me?” Satine frowned. “Or were you…” Lying. Pretending. Leading me on.
“I did.” Obi-Wan insisted, unable to bear the unsaid words. “And I do.”
“As a friend,” her eyes lingered, for a moment, then fell, gliding away. “and nothing more.”
“I—” Obi-Wan stopped.
There was a familiar knot in his chest, it swelled and ached and battered against an even greater cry of indignation. Whatever in him that had always been sure of his affection, his loyalty threatened to be swallowed up by the same old fears. The ones that happened to be particularly prominent in the company of the Duchess of Mandalore. Silence stretched on, and from the depth of his chest, it rushed up, that futile, crushing sense of inadequacy, that conviction he simply wasn’t enough.
Eventually, however, indignation won out, fuelled by that heart forever crying out to be given away.
“Fine.” Obi-Wan breathed out. His voice was harder than he’d meant for it to be. “If you had asked. I would have left the Jedi Order.”
Satine snapped up. She kept the confession hanging in air, and then, with a twist of her elegant brows, she asked.
“Why?”
Obi-Wan did not hesitate.
“Because you are my friend.”

Anyway on a fun lighter note here's some canonically asexual (and a couple aromantic) characters.
DC
Connor Hawke - Confirmed in comics last year, also confirmed to be alloromantic.
Roshanna Chatterji - Confirmed ace in "The movement" comics, also implied aro due to context.
Spooner - Confirmed in episode 10 season 7 (If I remember right) of Legends of tomorrow, also implied aro due to context.
Star Wars
Vernestra Rwoh - Confirmed aroace by Justina Ireland, there was also a line in book implying.
Leox Gyasi - Lines in book and I'm assuming from the article Claudia Gray expanded somewhere.
Vi Moradi - Elizabeth Schaefer explained that it was Delilah S. Dawsons idea
Sola Nabberie- Confirmed by E.K Johnson implied in book
Obi-Wan Kenobi - Implied bi (or pan) and/or araoce in Padawan
Other TV shows
Abbi in the impefects - Said in episode one and mentioned again later
Florence in sex education - Haven't watched it but heard the clip
Todd in Bojack Horseman - Same again
Marvel
Gwenpoole - technically the words haven't been said but apparently she's been seen with an ace flag during marvel voices pride
Nadia Van Dyne (my favourite) - Confirmed aroace and quorioromantic on twitter by Unstoppable Wasp writer Jeremy Whitley, also apparently by Sam Maggs but I haven't seen that.
And last but not least Yelena Belova - Confirmed by Devin Grayson because you should not be able to take back confirming an identity.
Also heavily implied throughout "Pale Little Spider"
