Reading Cait Corrain's nonpology and, as predicted, she tries to paint herself as a victim of mental illness. They blame a "new medication" for making them mentally "fuzzy," which is what led to the review bombing. Depression, alcoholism, and substance abuse: the white person trifecta.
I'm beginning to wonder how they got a book deal at all when they're so terrible with words. At least it sounds more coherent than the fake convo with "Lily" but yikes. No mention of why they targeted BIPOC, of course, though it's safe to assume that's also the fault of the meds. *insert massive eyeroll* Also no mention of how the attacks have been going on for most of the year rather than the past month or so. Of course.
Anyway, the whole debacle is still bizarre in terms of "you had everything going for you, WTF?" but I guess between being a darling white person and having immersed themself in toxic fan culture* that's all the answer that's needed. At least now it's over and we can move on to the next drama. What's next? Beloved actor turns out to be a sack of shit?
*I'm not blaming reylos, specifically, since they got thrown under the bus in all of this; I'm just saying that fandoms in general- especially the shippy ones- tend to be very, very toxic, petty, and backstabbing.
ETA: past victims of their pettiness are coming forward to say that this behavior is nothing new and that they've always been like this. Seems they tried to horn in on Critical Role fandom as well and was an absolute ass to everyone. Some people really are Like This. I'm so glad to have never known one. Yikes.

Twice this year already I’ve seen two different people on twitter say they’re tired of “feminist” Greek Mythology retellings and I’m like ??? First of all let people enjoy things and second, I feel like this trend is fairly new? Sure there’s been some big hitters over the last few years, but there’s only really been an influx of them in the last year or so. Also does feminism mean something else to these people that one of them went so far as to call these retellings a grift??
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second person further explained that they meant they wanted retellings from various gender identities, but somehow loudly said “less girl stories, more boy stories” instead.

📖 BOOK REVIEW ✨ Three dates for the love expert to take his own advice, and just maybe change two lives forever. 🕯 Check full blurb in the comments. ~ Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Thoughts🤔 The book is pretty calm. Honestly, it’s been a while since I’ve read high school romance books so it feels good to rediscover this genre. It’s like the ones I used to read in wattpad, honestly no heavy drama just cuteness overload. Promise, no tear jerkers on this one although it touches a pretty heavy trigger warning, so be sure to check that out first. The idea of three dates was pretty common to me, but I loved how they spent those three dates. It’s not a very cheesy date idea with just romantic dinners or theme parks. The dates on this book showcases history. I’m not going to say anything else about their dates to avoid spoilers. I learned a bit about the history of music and a very historic museum in Detroit, and about hair fashion too! If you’re looking for a cozy read, this one may be for you. TW: attempted rape I received this book as an ARC from @simonschusterca , this book publishes on May 31 ❤️ #qotd what’s a ‘trigger warning’ you want to read about and has probably not seen yet in books? Or do you have a book with heavy ‘triggers’ you would recommend? 🔖 #loveradio #ebonyladelle #contemporaryromance #youngadultbooks #blackcouplebooks #highschoolromance #arcbookreview #bookinfluencer bookishcanadians #bookblogger #bibliophile #bookstagramcanada #bookstagramphilippines #bookstagramfeature #bookishcommunity #booksofinstagram #bookreview #bookreviewer #igreads #bookworld #bookworm #booksbooksbooks #readersofinstagram #bookgram #booklover #booknerd #bookcommunity #bookstagrammer #goodreads (at Calgary, Alberta) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cdth5C_PdYK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Marina’s Handwriting
“Lucas, Darling, with his hands dripping blood of love he is coming after me. I know that you can stop him, because you have the same blood descended into you. Save me from this world so cruel and take me to those mountains shaded in blue under moon where we can listen to the calmness of pond blended into our love so pure.”
With ‘y’ stretched like a scar made by sword in her letter, and every other word holding each other for lifetime, she wrote me for the last time; those letters were a pure blend of love and war.
I do not remember how and why she used multitude of handwritings but she gave me one reason; “Lucas, with you I do not feel like stopping at a place, because I know the mountains are

Sun's out, tantrum's out
Another day, another booktwit drama unfolding. It seems white authors can't go five minutes without attacking Black authors for existing, and in this case accusing them of theft.
You can find part of the drama on twitter, where Lauren M. Davis accuses Marvellous Micheal Anson of plagiarism and copyright violations for having a protag who can control the sun. Because apparently that's her thing. Which will come as a surprise to everyone who has ever written characters utilizing that concept. Including quite a number of gods.
Now that the dogpiling has begun, Lauren is claiming that it isn't just the sun powers thing that was stolen, but hasn't really offered any evidence of what Marve did wrong. About all I can see, between Lauren's snippet and the first chapter of Marve's book, is that in addition to the "sun powers," Marve's book, like Lauren's, also features a character on the run from religious authority figures. If there's any more to that then she hasn't seen fit to tell us.
The official summary for Lauren's book, Nova's Playlist: From Cinders to Tiara is less than helpful in determining a plotline. It's billed as "a story within a story within a story," but from the snippet she posted it sounds like a generic Magical Girl origin story where an "ordinary" girl discovers she has magical powers (superspeed and flight) due to her alien nature and she's recruited into the Solar Girls- to help fight evil, probably. It sounds a little bit Superman and a little bit Sailor Moon, and perfectly fine as a concept. Just not a stunningly original one worthy of vicious defence.
Marve's book, meanwhile, is called Firstborn of the Sun and is steeped in Nigerian culture and Yoruba mythology. It's all about the gods, not aliens, and I can't tell if the plot is going to be about saving the world or something on a smaller scale. There's no information available (that I can find) other than her (broken) link to the first chapter, which is on the Future World's Prize website (chapter here). It seems unlikely that Lauren could have somehow wrangled a copy of the entire book to read in order to determine that enough was "stolen" to warrant a copyright claim. TBH I'd say that Marve dipping into the stories of the Yoruba people is enough to set it distinctly apart, but maybe that's just me.
Lauren's insistence that she's right and the vast majority of the internet is wrong seems disproportionate to the situation and the fact that she chose to target a Black author is definitely suspect, no matter what she says. How did she even find Marve in order to attack her?
Anyway, this isn't going to end well for Lauren. Her book is already being negged on the major sites, which is a bit of an iffy tactic, IMO, given that we just went through a whole condemnation of "review bombing" during the Cait Corrain scandal.
Word to the wise: if you're going to go after someone, especially on social media, make sure you have plenty of evidence and receipts first. Know what you're doing and make sure you're in the right. Or be prepared to reap the consequences you've brought on yourself.
Also? Don't be a fucking racist.

🦋BOOK REVIEW🦋 Title: Dead Flowers 🥀 Author: Alex Laidlaw “What did I gain for trying to torture myself?” Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book is composed of short stories that captures the reality of human life - friendships, happy times, drinking, loneliness, depression, young love, being lost. These stories peek into the lives of ordinary people, no heavy drama, just plain simple human life as we try to figure out how to survive to live another day, and makes it an adventure. Out of the 8 short stories in this book, I would say that “About Franklin” is my favorite, one I could relate the most. The last story is more like poetry to me, one that I need to read and reflect on to really understand what was happening. And I love a book who does just that, makes me reflect and see my own version of the story with my own characters - people that I personally know. Overall, this book makes you realize that no matter how simple your life is, it is not boring, it is an adventure. Thank you @harbour_publishing and @nightwood_editions for my copy of this book! 🏷 #bookishcanadians #bookblogger #bibliophile #bookstagramcanada #bookstagramphilippines #bookstagramfeature #bookishcommunity #booksofinstagram #bookreview #bookreviewer #igreads #bookworld #bookworm #booksbooksbooks #readersofinstagram #bookgram #booklover #booknerd #bookcommunity #bookstagrammer #goodreads #cupidcalamity #romcombook #romanticcomedybooks #stupidcupidbook #animalattractionbook #deadflowers (at Canada) https://www.instagram.com/p/CbBC6prv2ea/?utm_medium=tumblr

ⒷⓄⓄⓀ ⓇⒺⓋⒾⒺⓌ The secret keeper of Jaipur Author: Alka Joshi Genre: Historical Fiction, fiction My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐🌛 This book is a continuation of The Henna Artist, where we have seen Lakshmi relocating to Shimla to start her new career along with her sister Radha and her helper the 8 year old Malik. In this book, we see Lakshmi married to Dr. Kumar, Malik as a grownup and in love with a tribe woman, and Radha living in France with her husband. The story starts when Malik returns to Jaipur to learn the Civil Engineering work and the grand cinema hall he helps in building with Ravi, collapses. A greater mystery evolves from there, and everyone finds themselves entangled in the middle of it. The story has multiple layers to it. There are mysteries and suspense arising in everyone's life like the layers of an onion, and in the end, everything connects to each layer beautifully to put together an awesome tale. Although a little bit predictable, I liked how the entire plot was represented and organized. There were a lot of drama and equally huge importance given to small details. I quite liked reading it. Have you read any of Alka Joshi's books? What is your opinion of them? Book: When The White Knight Falls Author: By Virginia Wallace Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 My thoughts: Love, passionate desires, drama, a slice of life, madness, tear-jerker, and thriller. When The White Knight Falls tells the tale of musicians Alec and Kate and their ups and downs but most of all, their growth. What happens when heavy metal meets orchestra? You gotta read to find out because it's worth it!
