You eat lunch together in the food court, and take your breaks at the same time so you can go on walks together. In some ways, you’re an unlikely pair. Corey just wants to blend in, and his understated, layered apparel is quite the contrast to your edgy, gothic style. But you also have things in common. You both love Thai food and hate when it’s too bright outside. You both like horror. You’re both open minded. You're both social outsiders, although for you, it’s more of a choice. He really admires your ability to not care about judgmental strangers. That’s not something you have in common when you first meet.

You're sitting in the food court together one day and a band kid comes up and calls him a psycho. Corey doesn’t react, but it obviously gets to him. He squirms and turns red.

This seems to make an impact on Corey, and his confidence increases in the following months. As his confidence grows, the dynamic between you starts to shift. It starts to feel less platonic and more like a flirtationship. He compliments your clothes a lot, tells you how good you look in certain dresses.

One day, you get some bad news that Hot Topic is finally closing down. You’re especially disappointed because you’re going to miss seeing Corey at work. You tell him about the store closing, and he seems a lot sadder than you expect. When you hug him after lunch that day, it’s like his strong arms don’t want to let you go. You invite him to come over to your place after work and he perks up.

When Corey comes over, you make dinner together and talk for a long time, chat with your roommate for a few minutes, then decide to watch something. 9/27/2022: It’s officially Fall

Feeling: Nostalgic

Hello internet people :)

There’s something so nostalgic about fall and winter it’s just like this long time to reflect and look upon the past, reminisce it in a way that marks it no longer existing in our lives today. Last winter and fall I became so fascinated and entranced by this online genre of videos: Internet mysteries, internet phenomena and/or crimes that all took place in the early 2000’s during the birth of the world wide web. I find myself coming back to these videos again as fall begins it’s just something in the air I think.

The two are now seamlessly interconnected in my brain, the fall and winter brings this air of mystery, death, the unexplainable and what better to do when it’s cold out and you’re holed up inside than watch videos that emulate this exact seasonal feeling. I was but a tiny child when places like 4Chan hit their peak, which is to say these ancient chat room and forums containing so much odd and hidden history are a a bit foreign to me. I grew up during the rise of youtube, instagram, and tumblr so it is not like i’m completely without my wits but places like 4chan and obscure early corners of the internet are more a relic of the past to me. A relic of what once was, the ancient megalithic structures of the internet that give way to endless questions and mysteries once the world moved on to something bigger and brighter.

So as October has once again rolled around and we pass the fall equinox i find myself reviving the interests in the sheer eeriness and ambiguity that the early 2000’s internet encapsulated.

While some people will spend their octobers watching scream and chuckie, i will be spending mine with the documentarists of youtube.

It still shocks me how much effort these content creators put into their documentaries on a free platform, they deserve so much hype and appreciation. These content creators spend endless hours and hours compiling facts and events to create a narrative and then actually execute it perfectly, and all for free. Their desire to make these videos comes from a true place of passion and intrigue just as any viewer watching, rather than monetary gain and i think it speaks to the quality of this genre as well. I mean the quality is outstanding, truly. Most of these documentary-style mystery videos on youtube are 1.5+ hours, extremely well-written, directed and edited to the point they could be put on a streaming platform like Hulu and i wouldn’t look twice.

I love everything about this creepy little corner of youtube and the people within it, it’s genuine content and it’s entertaining. Here’s some creators i recommend checking out if you’re interested in watching these kinds of videos:
