Fionn mac Cumhaill, pronounced Finn Macool, is an Irish folk hero. He became the leader of a warrior band called the Fiana after both defeating its leader and killing a fire spirit with his sword Mac an Luin. He accidentally gained the ability to tap into universal knowledge by sucking his thumb after being burnt by the fish of knowledge. Fionn met his future wife in the form of a deer, noticing that his dogs acted weird around the deer, Fionn was intrigued, bringing the deer back to his home. As soon as they stepped foot onto his land the deer transformed into a woman with Fionn falling in love with her, she confided that an evil Druid transformed her into her deer form. However one day when he was out hunting she was taken once more by the evil druid, never being seen again. When Fionn went out looking for her, he found a young fawn that once again piqued his interest, bringing it back to his home it transformed into a young boy, his son. Fionn isn’t believed to be dead, on the contrary it’s said that he’s in a deep slumber, and once Ireland is threatened he will emerge once more to defend his people.
Fionn’s name come from his light hair, Fionn meaning fair hair. Fionn mac Cumhaill is one of the most prolific and popular culture heroes from Ireland along with Cú chulainn and Lugh. According to some traditions, Fionn is the great grandson of Nuada, the god of hunting. Fionn’s genealogy doesn’t end there as he’s also commonly depicted as the descendant of the Firbolg warriors who fought the Tuatha dé Dannan.

The story of the chicken and the black snake
NOTES FOR LATER:
1. Fun substitution stories: It bears a lot of similarities to the story of Zeus and the stone substitution. Zeus was supposed to be killed soas not to challenge ranking deity, who kept eating and damning any and all rival gods to his cosmic belly. Cosmic kings eat their rivals and their children in order to grow in power. The goal is to damn them to food, to becoming sources OF power, not challenges TO power.
///
2. Ineffective usurper God narratives: Cas tried to muster up "godly/creative" power by following the footsteps of cosmic paidophagy. By swallowing the Purgatorial souls and Leviathans, he became the black snake, and like all aggressive gods that try to entomb power by consuming others' children, he would arouse the mother's anger and fail.
The devilishly clever mother, knowing the usurper God is not efficiently boundless as she is, and is not strong enough Void, plants and incites a battle from within. This deception is typically wrought by enticing the predator to swallow poison (or a stone or a hardboiled egg), or by imbuing the children with secret strength to allow them to violently burst forth and overpower their father. So it was with Primordial Eve, hiding her her "bomb" from within, that would tear the inefficient God asunder.
Ergo, the Leviathans are the egg, Eve/Tiamat is the chicken, and Cas was the black snake in whose corpse the hidden children would feast upon. God overcome.
It's a cheeky reference to what Yahweh/or other culture hero god did to them, exploding and feasting upon the bodies of Leviathan as world nourishment to "create the world." Castiel's sundering is symbolically "Zeus as ineffective container" (or "Kronos as ineffective container"), bursting forth in an extremely violent reversal of Yahweh's original Leviathan victory. Cas can rouse chaos. But as "Heaven/Sky only," he cannot contain it.
This is because Cas is not a creator god, so in order to Wield Power of God, he must be facilitated by joining forces with Earth or other allies (Sam, Dean, Meg; later, Kelly Kline) in order to Complete the Circle. (When Cas turns his back on allies of Hell and Crowley, he effectively dooms himself.)
Tumblr media
Cas "Heaven" cannot complete the circle "crown" alone. It is the Love and Healing, not War-making, that allows a more complete joining with his allies. (Image by LLA).
Interestingly, SPN 12x19 The Future (above GIF) is full of circle motifs because Jack is emerging into the Universe.
Jack, on the other hand, is much, much fuzzier in terms of his abilities. He's so strong that he embodies Both Modes (Earth AND Heaven, Human AND Angel). Jack is vast and boundless; Cas is not and never has been. That's why Jack is able to become God, but Cas is one-half-of-God/needing-allies, or else an ineffective solitary "culture hero" locked in eternal narrative of warfare without any real gains.
Castiel is more effective when he shares power/burdens and joins forces with his human family. (This manifests as, "support me and stand behind me 100%" VS "fight alongside me and don't be afraid to air your disagreements." It also manifests in the hiding of key details of the fights in order to "spare" them the burden of war's ugliness.)
Unfortunately, he tends to reach to share power with fellow angels on high, like Lucifer and Chuck, and that just leads to more of the same, ineffective "bright" wars. Ironically, it is his failing to share burdens (with his own rebel angels, Crowley, sometimes even Sam and Dean) that cause his most extreme losses.
Hell, Heaven, and Earth are most powerful when linked together; and they are weakest when ripped apart. Still, that isn't enough on its own, because they need to be linked together in peace, not isolation and aggression. (This is why Heaven, Earth, and Hell do not overcome Amara. Only choosing peace and reconciliation does. And yet, even that reconciliation is incomplete, because the light and the dark become too isolated from Heaven and Earth, cascading down into Lucifer's heartbreak and Dean's loss of Heaven in season 13's speech, "You said the earth would be fine, but it's not.")
///
3. Cas as culture hero: We see more power struggles at play in season 15 when Cas returns to Purgatory, where Leviathan corpses are again linked to blossoming of godly power, specifically the power to take down God (reference to the Classic Chaoskampf). Corpses of Leviathan are symbolic of Yawheh's (El's) original victory.
In Supernatural, the Leviathan were defeated/banished by the uniting of Cas and Dean against them. This is why their reconciliation is a key component of defeating God. United, perhaps they can take down God. It's why in 15x09 The Trap's deleted scene/alternate future/victory, they arrive marching in tandem, with the specter of the Double Diamond casino representing their combined pragmaticism. (However, as with all war, even when you WIN, you LOSE.)
Another interesting thing about Purgatory, though, is that Tiamat/Eve does not appear to be hunting down Dean. She's hunting down Cas, for "killing her Alphas and predatorially swallowing [her children]." Cas is characterized within the landscape as "Bright" and "Orderly," the eternal threat to her chaotic children.
Cas's characteristics of being Awake and bringing both Narrative and Meaning to The Empty also make him an eternal threat to the Cosmic Void, the Shadow. Cas imposes Limits/Order/Rebellion on the boundless forces, but he is independent enough to be flexible (unlike Death/Billie/Dean who swung too close to Order at the end of the series). These qualities liken Cas to Order and Disorder, "the spanner in the works," and he functions as The Great Escapist, which likens him more closely to the culture hero. (Which is why to so many astute viewers, Cas feels like not just A Main Character, but The Main Character.) In bringing Cas to such high highs (Superman, puppet God, angelic warrior) and such low lows (object of ridicule and scorn and emasculation), and such a wise middle of the road (renewed faith and values, finding strength IN weakness), they've accidentally transformed him to true protagonist.
Ergo with respect to Eve/Tiamat and The Empty/Void, Castiel IS the real cosmic culture hero. (Sam and Dean are culture heroes in their own right, but of Earth, so they can be heroes when aided by God/Heaven/"Equalizer" favors).
////
Jack is triparted God, the same as he represents Sam and Dean and Cas. He's also the egg and the chicken and the snake.
But when you try to be all things, as Dean tried to be all things (re: his conversation with Mary in season 12), you effectively became nothing. "It's not fair!"

Rex: So General Kenobi, how come you speak mando'a?
Obi-Wan: I've always been interested in the culture and I spent a year on Mandalore for a mission in my youth :)
Rex: I see, what about you, General Skywalker?
Anakin: Huh? Oh Obi-Wan used to drop me off in mando daycare when he went to get laid in little Keldabe, fun times, they taught me how to headbutt someone.

Do you think nicknames are a big thing in demigod culture?
There are lots of cultures where nicknames hold a lot of importance, like your family has a specific nickname they call you and your friends have a different specific thing they call you.
And in the world of pjo names/titles have power.
So maybe even more names/titles you have the more powerful you are. Like Poseidon also being known as Earth shaker and stormbringer, Nico being the ghost king, and Hylla earning the name Hylla twice kill.
So in demigod culture nicknames are a way to show you love someone but also a way to try to imbue them with power so that they'll be more likely to survive.
So for a demigod maybe there would be a specific nickname that demigod is called by their siblings (I'm pretty sure Luke calls Annabeth "Annie" at one point so maybe that's what her siblings call her?), a few nicknames used by friends (like when Piper and Leo called Jason Golden boy or sparky), and a nickname reserved for a demigod's significant other (seaweed brain and wise girl).
There's also the whole "don't name it or you'll get attached" concept that could factor in, considering how often demigods die.
So giving someone a nickname in demigod culture is a way of saying "I care about you, I want you to survive, so I'm going to run the risk of getting attached"
It would also explain why every time a new friend is made in pjo a nickname is one of the first things they get.

Hazel, who grew up in the 1940s and Jason who had no access to a phone and lived in Camp Jupiter his entire life.
They both do not understand meme culture one bit.
Piper: omg hazel you ate and left not a single crumb.
Hazel: I... I'm not eating anything?
Leo, making tacos: girl dinner, girl dinner
Jason: we're both boys?
Percy: no but i was literally serving in that toga.
Hazel: stop.

URGENT UPDATE ON KOSA
Guys, this is getting really scary now. According to Senator Blumenthal they "rewrote the bill' (they didn't change anything actually) and the bill now has bipartisan (both democrat and republican support) with 62 co-sponsors now and could hit the senate as early as next week.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, KOSA (the Kids Online Safety Act) Is a strait up fascist mass internet censorship and serveillance bill that if passed, will force you to upload your government ID online in order to verify your age and give not only the government to track everything you do on the internet, but also the pwer to censor and erase anything or anyone they deem a threat to their power all by using the vague wording of the bill to deem it "a danger to kids"
both of the co writers of the bill, Senator Blumenthal, and Senator marsha Blackburn have fully admitted that they will be using this bill to wipe out any anti-isreal content as well as (in Blackburn's own words) "eliminate transgender content"
This bill WILL be used to end modern activism as we know it.
anything related to Free Palestine, Free Congo, Free Sudan, Black Lives Matter, Stop Cop City, LGBTQIA Rights, will be censored and wiped off the face of the internet.
we are looking at Farenheit 451 and 1984 COMBINED. And I still see almost NO ONE talking about it since my initial post I made talking about it last year. Every single one of you need to interact with this post and spread the word. contact your reps. sign petitions (all of which will b linked at the end of this post) AND MAKE SOME GODDAM NOISE. This is the fate of the internet as well as the fate of modern activism and literally the entire internet.
Resources for learning about KOSA:
Petition and Call Script for contacting your senators and reps

John Henry, a freed slave who, like a lot of black men of the time, could only find work in steel driving for the American railway system. Building the railroads was not only an arduous task but also a dangerous one, as workers dying from the conditions was a regular occurrence. Despite this John built the railroad with incredible ease, with one strike he could drive in a steel pike that would take ten men to drive in. Not only was John incredibly powerful, but he was also extremely kind, always doing his best to help others. Because of his qualities he quickly became well known by the railway workers, with them singing of his many deeds. One day while the workers were digging through a mountain, an inventor visited. The inventor paid no mind to the workers, ignoring them on his way to the foreman. He told the foreman that he had a steam powered drill that could replace the workers entirely. The foreman always willing to cut costs and expenses eagerly accepted, suddenly John appeared interrupting the two. In order to save the livelihoods of his coworkers John challenged the inventor to a competition, a race to see who could dig to the other side of the mountain first, John vs the steam drill. The inventor cockily agreed, however as the race began he saw that John cleaved straight through the rock, not only matching the drill but surpassing its speed. John shook the earth as his hammer thundered. The drill couldn’t keep up ultimately shaking itself to pieces, with John surpassing human limits and making his way through the entire mountain, lifting his hammer above his head in victory. But due to the stress put on his body John sadly died. The sound of thunder is attributed to the striking of his hammers.
Originally thought to have only been folklore, John Henry was a real steel driver. He was imprisoned for burglary at age 19, sentenced to 10 years in prison. But the prison leased him out to the railway company, essentially reselling him back into slavery. John Henry is an incredibly important African American icon, becoming a symbol of overcoming adversity and the working classes spirit.

you know im thinking. im thinking maybe Yoichi wasn't even that into captain hero as an adult, but AfO kept bringing LITERALLY every conversation back to that because he decided to Be The Demon Lord and so Yoichi like, can't get an argument in unless he uses the same material so he's like 'oh my god i haven't even thought about that comic in ten years but even i know the bad guy didn't win. you should not be basing you whole identity, business model, and world destruction plan on your five-second impression of a comic book bad guy who didn't even win! also you shouldn't kill people!'
