do i have a definitive answer on who should take up the batman mantle after bruce? no i do not

do i have opinions on why it shouldnt be any of the robins and will rant about that? also yeah

so pt. 1 of 5, starting from the bottom up: damian

it is possible, but i feel like it would have to be handled very specifically in order for damian becoming batman to feel like a satisfying decision for him as a character

because a majority of his life he was an "inheritor of [blank]" he was raised to one day lead the league (not in the way he thought) and he was raised to inherit the wayne/batman legacy

this kid has been defined (and lowkey still is) by living up to a role somebody else already made, his entire life

and he finds his value in that, like we see it with his emphasis on him being the "blood son" he bases his worth/importance based on who his bloodlines and the legacies he's meant to inherit from them

so for me personally, him chosing one or the other role(s) isnt all that satisfying for me because either way he still ends up almost giving in to one of the purposes that has been pushed onto him all his life and it highkey reaffirms the idea that his worth is based off these family legacies

so i would love to see damian going a more dick grayson type of route, where he becomes his own hero with his own name with his own purpose that he decided for himself and what he wants to become, and he develops that sense of worth without basing on his family ties

and like legit, the only way i think i'd ever be somewhat okay with damian becoming batman is if he become the head of the league of assassins too, and by merging both of those (highkey contradictory) legacies with themselves and what he (without influence from either parent) wants to be, ends up transforming batman and the league of assassins into something completely new

New Batman?

Okay so jason todd should be the next batman before we get to why him ill get to why it shouldnt be anyone else 1) it has to be a robin, if bruce wayne dies or retires his prodigies would take his place they were trained for it 2) it wont be damian wayne because... People hate him... Hes a young brat... Hed just fuck around in it 3) it wont be tim drake because hes rather disconnected from the rest of the batfamily and hes more of a bland character if bruce dies and rim takes over???? hell no that would be shittt from a writers perspective toO 4) it really narrows down to dick grayson and jason todd 5)it shouldnt be dick because hes already his own other dude (nightwing) and hes too kind honestly if you want a major event like bruce stepping down to happen would you want just a random completelt obediant good guy ti take over? he doesnt have the drive 6) it should be jason todd. He has the capability to be a hero and villan (robin, red x , red hood) and he could bring a major different outlook ro the universe while keeping other main villans. He actually makes a difference taking out small time criminals and has an okay relationship with dick grayson. Instead of just joining the justice league as jason he coukd join as batman. Basically if it boils down to it. If bruce wayne goes down then theres gonna be a MAJOR shift to the universe. we need a character to be worthy and interesting enough to take his place and build on his empire
