My list of Adam ships♡ n my opinion bout them (also fics rec :D)

Adam x Luicfer (Adamsapple/Duitarduck) 10/10

Need i say more:)))??!?! started out as a "haha funny slip-up ship" to "hey they got really good angst potential". The friends/lovers to enemies to lovers is STRONG with this one n i am eating up everything i could found on ao3. Smth bout this macho-ass man finally getting to stay back n not take charge for once feel nice, also princess Adam supermacy wooooo. Whoever came up with the ship name i applaud u cause that's like a 3 layers name(ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*:･ﾟ✧

It's not an Adamsapple fic without Adam having at least 1 mental breakdown n Lucifer have his guilt eating him alive:)))

Very fucked up torture but i swear it worth the pain:D The dove is so dead it start to rot so plz read the tags properly (plz check out the AngeliaDark other works too they got good shit)

But after seeing the art side of this ship im chillin with them now, since the art r pretty wholesome, usually having them decked out in punk-rock clothings hanging out. It's a big "Fuck you" to Lucifer n i live for these mf argueing ╰(*°▽°*)╯

So uhhh stay away from the fics if ya want an actual functional couple instead of wtv messed up shit we got there:))) But here's a fic anyway, the only one where it feel bearable n actual trynna go into said messed up relationship i already warn you

the problem with love interests for buck and eddie, why the fandom hates them all except tommy, and why buddie endgame would save the showrunners a lot of hassle A RAMBLING ESSAY

ok, so POINT ONE, let's be real, let's call spade a spade: a not insignificant part of that is ✨ (internalised) misogyny✨

you love these two characters, right? buck and eddie, and you love to see them interact and watch how the depths of their friendship deepen even further and you want to see a queer love story on screen because it would be so FUCKING cool, there can never ever be enough of those, and it's right there, it's within reach, WHY IS SOME WOMAN HERE TAKING UP VALUABLE BUDDIE/QUEER-POTENTIAL SCREENTIME

how do i know this? because ive experienced it, and i would bet a not insignificant portion of my worldly possessions that im not the only one

it's kinda fucked up, but i think if we breathe through it, engage rational thought and don't join a mob spewing vitriol in the actors' and showmakers' spaces about it, we can be kinda fucked up about it and learn how to manage it on tumblr and ao3

but that was just point one, what about the rest? or are we all simply crazed shippers who need to touch grass?

so why do we hate Buck and Eddie's love interests except for tommy?

TLDR:

whoever Eddie and Buck end up with MUST have at least one single good, deep-ish relationship with someone other than them from the 118, otherwise the narrative is overpeopled and overwhelming.

that's why Tommy works and Taylor, Ana, Natalia, Marisol etc don't

there won't be an endgame relationship for either Buck and Eddie before the show starts wrapping up

edit, after getting lost in the tags and seeing how truly unhinged parts of the fandom have become/always been: ok, part of the reason the fandom hated those women definitely was the fact yall need a kick up the butt about the fact that you treat shipping as though it's an office people are sworn into and the fandom's job is to monitor it and police it by mobbing wtf is wrong with you (those of you who are doing it?)

anyway, read more of my long-ass theory below 🤣

well, point two is the nature of the show and the structure of the episodes

it's an ensemble, feel-good-with-spectacles show that for narrative coherence relies on tying the calls the ensemble responds to to some sort of an event that is relevant to one of the character's personal life

that's a lot to ask of 45 minutes, so it's lucky that the main characters (bobby, athena, buck, chimney, hen, maddie, eddie) are paired up for these personal narratives and lessons: bobby+athena, bobby+buck, bobby+eddie, hen+karen, hen+chim, chim+maddie, maddie+buck, buck+eddie

just look at it. it is A LOT of stories, right?

and since family life, building a family, making a family, staying a family is the name of the game in this show, it's lucky that bobby and athena, chimney and maddie, hen and karen are established as their own little family units with romantic relationships and can go through all these things together

but what about eddie and buck? well, they're their own unit, along with christopher. they're great together and it's satisfying to watch them on screen together, so we want more of it. and...

and look, the fact is that most of the narratives we see in general are amatonormative. we are conditioned to look for romantic love in every story we watch. that's not necessarily wrong or bad. it's just the way we are as a society.

because 118 is a found family that's formed of traditional family units (by which i mean amatonormative) the firehouse family is the larger overarching structure, the foundation on which the romantic relationships are built, the pin that holds all the strings together.

buck and eddie are the only ones with loose romantic strings.

when we see two romantically unattached characters on screen, attaching them becomes the goal. getting them a proper love interest gives you narrative tension and something to work towards and build a story around.

the problem is that 911 already has a shitton of characters. and to write a love story that would be satisfying and on par with what Bobby has with Athena, Hen with Karen and Maddie with Chimney, you need to give both parts of the couple time on screen, together and separately. the separately is veeery important.

we love these couples because we've watched them grow and we've seen them fail and we've got to know them.

now tell me, WHERE THE FUCK DO YOU GET THAT AMOUNT OF SCREENTIME FOR TWO NEW WHOLE CHARACTERS?? in 45 minutes where at least 3 things are happening to the main cast at once and also there's explosions and car crashes and DJs glued to billboards?

WHERE?

well, you can introduce a new character through another storyline Buck and Eddie experience in episode. like Ana and the skateboard and Ali with the earthquake and Natalia with the living funeral and Marisol with the hardware store.

now, let me make something clear: there is NOTHING wrong with any of these characters. stg the way some of the fandom goes on about them you'd think these women are the satan. they could have worked in relationships with Buck and Eddie. IF they had been given the opportunity to become involved with the firehouse family in any way.

it's just not enough to have Ana watch over Eddie in hospital or sit on the couch with him and Chris, or play charades. that simply doesn't cut it.

Karen and Hen work because they are married and have a child together and have been from the start, even before we knew just how friendly Chim and Karen are. HenRen came as a unit, and Karen has been around long enough and given enough time throughout the entire show that we accept her as part of the firehouse family, even though she doesn't interact with the 118 other than Hen very often.

so if you want a longer term believable relationship that the audience can become attached to, what do you do?

well, you can give Ana a storyline with Athena and Hen, maybe there's an emergency at the school (no, bringing muffins during a blackout and eating them off screen just aint it chief). you can have Natalia call 911 and Maddie picks up, and Natalia gets another perspective on death that has less of a Ask-a-Mortician vibe and more terrible sudden tragedy.

so why not do that? the writers aren't idiots. I don't subscribe to the belief that they are utter geniuses and can do no wrong either (there has been stuff that was A CHOICE), but they know what they're doing.

idk if they didn't commit to the previously mentioned relationships because of stuff with budgets and actor availabilities and all that stuff that goes into a tv show production.

or if becuase when you leave your two unattached strings dangling, you have more stories to tell than if you leave only one.

THE PROBLEM OF TK (not from Lone Star)

well, you can also introduce a love interest another way.

you reach into the past and select a character your audience has already met. enter...

Taylor Kelly. ha, did you think I was gonna say Tommy Kinard? well, this does apply to Tommy too.

Taylor left an impression in Dosed, didn't she? there was chemistry between her and Buck, her job brought her naturally in contact with the firehouse calls, so why not bring her back as Buck's love interest?

why did so many of us hate her so much? why didn't she work?

it wasn't just that she took up buck-eddie-together screentime

I believe it's because even though Taylor's willingness to exploit Bobby's personal tragedy was (under a certain lens) presented as a girlboss move ("you don't have to like it"), it's an utterly despicable thing to do and besides "i tell other people's stories for a living because i hate telling my own" the show never (as far as i remember) gave her a moment when she could show she regretted her lack of compassion.

it wouldn't have taken much. just one single moment with Bobby (maybe even separately from Bobby), where she in some way shows that she knows that with great news-power comes great responsibility and she regrets the harm she did or could have caused not only to Bobby.

look at Tommy, he was a dickhead when we first met him. to Hen, to Chim, but we got that one reconciliation scene with Chimney and then a couple of short scenes interacting with the firehouse in a friendly way and we ADORE HIM.

and it's not just because Lou Ferrigno Jr. is hot and we like to see hot boys kissing other hot boys, though that does certainly contribute.

and it's not just because through Tommy, we get the possibility of a buddie endgame: although that also does contribute

it's because Tommy through those snippets in Chimney Begins, Hen Begins, Bobby Begins Again is already tied into the foundation of 118. Even without the occasional mentions through the rest of the show, even without the helicopter ride and the mouth static.

he's established, he's in good standing with the Family, he doesn't require massive amounts of screentime and storytime to make him so.

ADDITIONALLY, through a relationship with him we get to see Buck, the main character, explore who he is and evolve and come into his own.

I actually firmly believe that BuckTommy could be endgame and it would be a satisfying ending.

If it wasn't for Eddie flailing around talking about repression and catholic guilt.

Because we see how unhappy Eddie is, we seek to have him be comforted by his partner, the one other unattached romantic string, Buck. that's the only thing that makes sense. AT THE MOMENT.

unless they give us some serious Marisol experiences with the firehouse on screen, there is no way the Eddie and Marisol thing will be satisfying or long-lasting. no matter what bra the actress wears in which scene and how great the character allegedly is with christopher.

unless they give us another new character for Eddie to fall in love with that forms a bond with the firehouse.

srsly, without other good connection(s) to the firehouse family, any romantic interest for Buck and Eddie just doesn't feel like they belong because they are hanging onto the plot by just one string (to continue the metaphor), and they feel extraneous, redundant and don't mesh. we haven't had time with them, we're not invested in them, which makes them frustrating to watch because why are we here with this rando when buck/eddie in their place would be so much more satisfying?

(i believe lucy could have worked if they had given her more time and importance in the story, and didn't start her out with the cheating plotline. but i don't think she was ever srsly considered a love interest more of a complication to the buck/taylor stuff)

so why do I think Buddie can be an endgame only if the show's wrapping up?

because I don't think the writers will want to abandon the loose romantic strings for Buck and Eddie before the last season.

they won't want to miss out on the potential storylines

and even though if you get Buck and Eddie together romantically, you're going to get A LOT of story out of that, eventually, all water finds its level and so you can't have them on a relationship roller-coaster for too long before it becomes unsettling and unsatisfying.

Buck and Eddie would be excellent together not only because of the deep bond they already share, but because it lets the writers tie up loose ends without needing extra screentime for other characters. and once you put them together, you really don't want to break them apart. unless you want a how-i-met-your-mother shit ending.

A friend shared this lil' meme on a server we're in so I kinda wanna do it lol

SOME EXPLANATIONS below and beware of controversial takes!

Ship That I Love At First Sight -- I'M A KORRASAMI TRUTHER SINCE BOOK ONE. Very controversial take, but I really hated how Mako behaved and how he was positioned on that stupid love triangle but Korra and Asami's interaction felt so genuine. It felt like they were genuinely so interested with each other and wanted to become (at least) friends, but felt a little awkward considering their situation. I remember saying to my friend "UGH I wish they're the ones being shipped by the show instead". I continued having no hope and watched the show in "eh" although I loved how their relationship finally developed. AND LO AND BEHOLD. People say them being endgame is not valid and not deserving can meet and fistfight me at 3 PM in the school's football field.

Ship That I Initially Don't Like - This is going to be another controversial take because hhh ok. So I started only shipping Akihiko and Shinjiro because who doesn't love tragic gay childhood best friends who were torn apart due to trauma and life choices and one of them died in a way to sorta atone their mistakes etc etc. Like THE ANGST -- especially when you play this game at FUCKING 16 and only slowly opening the closet door. I invest to them greatly. Surprise surprise, even though she's my type I initially didn't get to like Mitsuru immediately but I realized it's not Misturu that I hate but... Something about her relationship with Yukari bring the worst out of each other (yeah I know they get better at P4A but 1they do have a long way to go I feel like). Turns out I just don't like it when Mitsuru interacts with Yukari but her interaction with other characters is fine to me. So I didn't pay P3 attention for a while but revisited it somewhere in 2010 and I realized how in sync and deeply connected Akihiko and Misturu were. They're so parents-coded to SEES (and boi do I love a dilfxmilf coded ship). That November 4th event did appealed to me the first time but it appealed to me even more. And I thought about how both have lost everything but still have each other and get each other's back almost in a non verbal way. The only person who can love and understand Akihiko in and out the way Shinji does to me is Mitsuru and the only person who would have all the grace, compassion, and patience to Mitsuru with all her burden is just Akihiko. So yeah, I guess they're otp too now. It's okay if you don't agree with this or if you're disgusted by the fact that I don't really vibe with the popular wlw ship in P3. Sometimes you just don't vibe with something, you know. I'm sure there are things you just don't vibe with too and that's cool. That's just human. But if you call me lesboph*bic or h*mophobic for this and think I deserve harassment... WOAH lmao. Are you okay?

Ship That I Don't Like Anymore - Siegfried and Cassandra is a ship of the past when I was still a stupid literal child brainwashed by cisheteronormativity and I just shipped the emoest conventionally attractive BOY with the boisterous sunshine of a conventionally attractive GIRL. As I became an adult I just lost interest in it completely and realized, HEY. Cassandra Alexandra is BIG LESBIAN. No way that girl is straight. Besides, if I wanna see conventionally attractive blonde people getting hooked now, I can just look at Husband and Wife Courtney Miller and Shayne Topp Miller.

Favorite Popular Ship - I think this doesn't need much explanation.

Favorite Rarepair - So is this one.

Controversial Ship - Okay, so, maybe they're not that controversial, but OMG people hate villains and people just can't grasp the fact that sometimes we read books and watch shows and find the villains entertaining because they're complexly written. Do we condone all the fucked up things these two assholes had done? Nah. Do we find character dynamics and development interesting to pay attention to and how the story makes us wanna know what happen? Yeah! But still, people hate me for finding these particular fictional rocks interesting 😂🙃 Other than that, there are people with the headcanon of them being sisters and you know how people treat different headcanons than theirs online, harass the fuck out of anyone who has that different headcanon.

Ship That I Want To Become Canon Most - Sometimes an enby just wants to enjoy a non problematic ship where two adults fall in love and be parents. Sometimes I just wanna enjoy a found family and adoption ever after. Like that sweet dream stepmom headcanon or a girl adopted by loving parents and gets a younger sister thing. Like man. Sometimes you just want simple things. Llsten, I don't think my favorite, even close to canon queer cookie ships can have the chance so Devsis. I'm begging you. At least the breeders are ok with this one, just give it a greenlight.

Comfort Ship - This also needs no explanation lol. They're my foster parents.

A Ship That Deserves More Attention - I'm generally a casual Jojo shipper and most of my favorite ships are the common ones but I really enjoy the KakPol dynamic. Something about a chill guy and a disastrous guy feels kinda sweet to me. To be honest, I find Part 3 Jotaro is hard to ship with anyone (yes, including Kakyoin -- I'm ok with the ship tho!) because of how edgy and distant he is. Like, he's just being his cool main character self and no one can touch him (and Jotaro is my most favorite beside Lisa Lisa lol, but sometimes it's just weird how you just like a character but can't really ship em with anyone). So I just pay more giggles to KakPol and sometimes PolAvdol.

First OTP - I'm torn between Jason and Kimberly from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Rei and Minako from Sailor Moon or THEM. But I feel for a fact that I was a hardcore Xena x Gabrielle stan at 6-7 years old is so interesting to me. First of all, this isn't a kids show, unlike Power Rangers or Sailor Moon anime. Second of all, I still understood nothing and my idea of romance were soooo limited, yet I wanted these two to hold hands and go on dates. NO ONE TOLD ME HOW TO BE GAY but somehow I AM. I tuned in to Xena every Sunday afternoon. Like I just wanna see Xena and Gabrielle be badass and flirt with each other and somehow frustrated why they keep pairing them with uninteresting men lol 😂 but yeah. Look where I am now!

Current OTP - And to wrap it and sorta make it funny, of course I gotta involve another ship that has a Gabriel on it 😂 Of course this is my choice of current otp. I invest to them a lot and I still can't get enough of them. I want them to kiss forever and I'm grateful they have all the time to kiss 🥰

I know rosemary and davekat are usually paired up as being 'the same' because they're gay endgame troll-strilonde ships, but in all honesty.... they don't really share anything in common that much? Sure, you've got the initial hostility in the beginning, but that slathers nearly every troll\human ship, so it's nothing unique to them.

there IS a ship rosemary shares a lot of beats with - and it's something half the fandom probably wouldn't even think of making connections with. And that is davejade.

NOW HEAR ME OUT before you unfollow me for comparing rosemary to a het ship (neither of them are even straight either, it's bi4bi), let me explain:

First off, let's start with Jade and Kanaya's view on Dave and Rose respectively. Jade, obviously, initially sees Dave as someone extremely cool and level-headed

This directly parallels with Kanaya's initial conclusion of Rose being exceedingly smart and snooty because of her gameFAQ. But of course, as time goes by, this eventually begins to collapse; the rosemary one more visible on screen, while the davejade isn't that much explored because Jade didn't even get that much screentime in general. Honestly, I'd REALLY like to see people make more content about Jade slowly deconstructing that cool kid facade like Kanaya did with Rose's smart and mysterious kid facade. It doesn't have to be limited to JUST Karkat, and imo, I feel like it'd be very effective if it was someone Dave knew since he was a very young kid.

Dave and Rose are also much more softer to Jade and Kanaya than they are to others.

For Rose, Kanaya unearths this facet of Rose that neither herself or her friends really knew about, and I feel like in a lot of Rose and Kanaya's conservations, especially the ones leading up to the grimdark arc, Rose is strangely a lot vulnerable to Kanaya than she is with Jade, or John, or even *Dave*. And I think this has to do with the fact Rose is actually at match with someone that understands her snark and her high Rick & Morty IQ. She doesn't really have to pretend to be someone calm and collected like with her friends to assure them, and Kanaya doesn't have to pretend to be like this with Rose too.

For Dave, it's really just because he cares a lot about Jade, and outrightly admits he considers his relationship with Jade to be special

he doesn't even call his dynamic with John special, and everyone and their dog knew Dave obviously had a huge crush on him. So this is actually a pretty fucking huge deal.

But then, there's the relationship issues Rose and Kanaya/Dave and Jade both go through, and wow would you look at that, it parallels like two congruent lines.

Jade and Kanaya obviously love Dave and Rose. It's evident, it's clear, it's hard to miss. But Dave and Rose are mentally ill blonde bitches, and they're stubborn as fuck, and that kind of twinges at Jade and Kanaya's extreme care for them.

Let's examine Jade and Davesprite's relationship compared to pre-retcon Rose and Kanaya: even though Jade and Davesprite never got that much screentime, their breakup was enough to draw lines to Kanaya and Rose's liquor issue. Davesprite refused to open up about his baggage, and heavily believed Jade deserved the *real* Dave. And that's where I think a lot of people make misconceptions that davejade can't work because of Davesprite breaking up with her, when in actuality, they only broke up bc Davesprite had self esteem issues and didn't want to hold Jade back from having a happier relationship with the "real" Dave.

Even though Rose doesn't state it bluntly like Davesprite does, Rose obviously believes Kanaya deserves better than having a drunkie for a gf

Rose and Davesprite (which to an extent Dave) both have regrets about how they treated their respective green space players, who obviously mean the entire world to them.

"DAVE: ok if he broke up with you or whatever that was because of his dumb bird issues not my issues DAVE: theres no way i would have done that to you" - Dave when Grimbark Jade told him he broke her heart.

And Jade and Kanaya get exceedingly fed up with it, understandably. Rose and Dave are definitely hard to handle, cuz of Dirk's terrible genes, and especially when they get in the hold of people like Jade and Kanaya who are practically Mitski songs if they were characters, it's just messy; but that's what makes them really great. They're not white bread and milk, and canon hs romance is never smooth sailing, so it shouldn't be a surprise if rosemary and davejade aren't all sappy-no-conflict-what-so-ever. Kanaya is one of a kind to Rose, and Dave is a messy as fuck guy to deal with romantically, you're gonna argue with him a few times because hs characters are complex and I'm tired of people boiling them until they're nothing but perfect and ideal characters.

The scene where Kanaya is just so fucking fed up with Rose's drunk bullshit and starts kicking WV's can buildings, unintentionally connects to grimbark Jade causing havoc on Dave's planet (which also involved WV, my poor man, leave him out of your romance issues). The Grimbark Jade arc and Kanaya's outburst are literally the same.

Dave and Rose's relationships with Jade and Kanaya mimic each other so fucking much, even if this was unintentional on Hussie's part. Davejade and rosemary are both complicated at the surface, but deep down in its core, their devotion is impeccable. Dave also supports Jade in whatever crazy bullshit she does, as a malewife does, funnily enough just like Kanaya does with Rose's dangerous plans.

"TG: youre about to do what youre about to do TG: and im not going to tell you not to TG: i wont do the bullshit troll thing and tell you what youre going to do and then just dare you not to TG: while knowing damn well you will anyway TG: so ill just say TG: whats next is up to you TG: and if later you want to talk about it TG: im here"

I feel like Dave's relationship to Jade also demonstrates his role as a knight to serve really well.

In conclusion of my strawberrykiwi-rosemary essay, Dave and Rose cherish Jade and Kanaya immensely, despite chunks of fandom opposing otherwise. Jade and Kanaya are but weaklings to the strilonde charm of fucked up blondes they think they can fix, and despite their relationship issues, they can't help but gravitate to them. All of them? The concept of OTPs in general? Idk I'm a multishipper

So far as popular ships go, though, there's a couple I don't really get. The one I least understand is zukka. Literally where did its huge popularity come from, if you want to ship two guys (which so far as I can tell is one of the main draws?) then, well, both sokkaang and jetko have more canon basis. Is this partly just me being salty that two ships I love that have actual canon grounding are ignored most of the time (one more so than the other) in favor of something that is pretty much a crackship? noooo (yes)

10. Most disliked arc? Why?

This part got long enough that I decided to put it under a cut.

Hmm ok, so this is a hard one. There's a few arcs I have significant issues with. The one I think I dislike most strongly is Aang's arc, though. Like, they had most of an amazing growing up arc (emotional dependence to emotional independence, it could have been so cool) all done, and then just. Completely flubbed the ending!

They started setting it up in the very first episode, when Aang sees Katara and forms an instantaneous attachment. All through Book 1 it stays a healthy relationship, where they get closer and make mistakes and work through them. There's foreshadowing for what will come later, but for now it's a good, healthy friendship.

Then in Book 2, we get the first real signs of trouble. We're shown in The Avatar State that Aang's emotional dependence on Katara has grown- he'd needed her support before, for instance when he saw his mentor's corpse, that was a completely reasonable time for him to rely on her. But here she doubtless needed more support than he did since she'd just been buried alive, and had to turn right around and calm him down instead. As Book 2 progresses, this is not addressed, and his emotional dependence on her only grows.

At the end of Book 2 is another key moment in this arc, where he's forced to begin to confront the fact that he feels like he needs Katara specifically for emotional support, as opposed to friendships in general. Book 3 doesn't do as well with this arc (hardly surprising, given what Book 3 was like in general), but there's still enough support for this arc that it feels like they could have stuck the landing with a few tweaks.

But by the end, nothing is actually resolved here, at least not in a way that makes sense. We see Aang so close to a good end to this arc at the beginning of the canon finale, and then at the very end we see an Aang who seems like he could almost be the one at the end of this arc, but there's no character development in between, just a bunch of glowing. GLOWING IS NOT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!!!

What really gets me here is how easy it would have been to make this an absolutely beautiful character arc, just by changing some of the details.

Change the focus from shipping to buildup for Aang learning not to use Katara as an emotional crutch, take away the kisses (especially if you want ka to be endgame), either remove Ember Island Players or completely rewrite it.

Show Aang realizing Katara isn't the perfect angel he built her up as in his head, show him beginning to accept that (the episode with Hama could be a great place to start this part, TSR is another good place to work on this stuff).

Keep him running away right before Sozin's comet, but for goodness sake give him some agency in it instead of having a lion turtle come by and hypnotize him. Have him choose to leave, with the intent to come back and fight Ozai, even kill him if he has to, but he's damn well going to try everything besides killing him first. So he waterbends his way out to a sandbar, bends himself a tiny island, and starts meditating.

He doesn't get quite the same answers from the past Avatars in this- I'm thinking Yangchen probably encourages him to look for an alternate solution, but reminds him to do what is necessary, even kill if he has to. He ends up using meditation to unblock his chakras, on a very visible time crunch because he headed to the coast of the Earth Kingdom to be sure he'd be there when Ozai arrived.

He's in the Avatar State during the fight, and in control, but it's not just ~magical glowing that does everything for him~ he has to actually fight. It's the hardest fight of his life so far- Ozai is powerful, and he's inexperienced. He's struggling, trying to hold Ozai off without killing or significantly injuring him, hoping against hope he won't have to use lethal force. Maybe at one point he hits Ozai hard enough to stun him and almost has a breakdown but then Ozai gets up.

Anyway, how the fight ends is he knocks Ozai to the ground and traps him like General Fong trapped Katara, all the way back at the start of Book 2. He doesn't use energybending and he doesn't need to, because with a little creativity (and embracing earthbending) he finds a nonviolent solution that we already knew was a thing that could happen. This should have been canon fight me

Oh and then if you're doing the ka version, instead of a kiss at the end Katara and Aang have a really sweet heart-to-heart where they both agree they're not ready for a romantic relationship yet, even though they both have feelings for each other they need more stability first and want their friendship to be a constant in a quickly-changing world. Because their friendship means the world to them.

End on a hopeful note with them holding hands, and boom! You've turned ka into something I actually like! Heck, you get the details right and you just turned ka into a ship I think about and write about and care about to a degree most would consider excessive!!

My Top 10 MHA OT3′s

I feel like MHA is not certain if it wants to be a story about trinities or duos. Sometimes it feels like the narrative follows a long list of contrasting duos, all resembling our leads (BKDK, TSCHK, TDMM, KRMN, MRTM, KMJR, etc.) And sometimes, especially recently, it feels like the series is actually about a bunch of trinities, a la Naruto - the Three Musketeers, the Big 3, and more! So since I’ve spent plenty of time talking about my favorite duo ships, I figured I’d rank my OT3s.

(I’m sure my #1 will be a big surprise “sarcasm”)

#10. TODOBAKUMOMO

So of course Todo/Momo are a ship of mine, and they’ve got great chemistry. But TD/BK’s chemistry is hard to deny, and they’re getting so developed lately, growing slowly into a rival ship to rival BKDK. And early on, Bakugou and Momo did have interesting potential. If these three ever hang out/work together as a trinity, I’ll rank it higher.

#9. THE LURKERS (Mt Lady, Kamui Woods & Edgeshot)

Our first grown-up Trinity hero team; continuing the Trinity theme the Big 3 started when they were introduced, we also saw the birth of the triad of some of the series’ most iconic pro heroes. They definitely had a hard time last arc though. Hope they all come out OK! Also worth noting that they resemble our lead trinity - the Spider-manesque underdog (Deku/Kamui Woods), the cool mysterious one (Edge/Shoto) and the flashy famous blonde one (Kacchan/Mt Lady).

#8. INACAMIESEIJI

Also continuing the School/Pros Trinity theme, we have the Big 3 of Shiketsu! (I know that’s Togacamie in this pic, but whatever). CamieSeiji of course have lots of argumentative chemistry; InaCamie have a few moments indicating there’s a connectiong between them, and Seiji takes enough time to fanboy over Inasa to complete the trio. Also in keeping with the tD/BK/DK parallels, as I put in an earlier post: Camie=Deku, Seku=Kacchan and Inasa=Shoto.

#7. ERASERMICLOUD

And finally in the category of Out-of-UA parallel trios, we have EraserMicCloud, the prequel trinity. Now Erasermic do echo BKDK by being the Broody and Energetic one,with the suggested hero name; though Aizawa is more like Shoto and Kumo like Deku in personality. Not sure which one I want to parallel which, though in either case Mic is Kacchan. Anyway let’s just hope Kumo’s fate doesn’t parallel Deku or Shoto’s...

#7. TODOIIMOMO

I know many fans feel TD/II/DK, but while those three have their great trinity bit together, I think the Momo route has more to go for it. Ii/Momo of course have their status as Class Reps and clearly care for one another, and TD/IIda have tons of feels surrounding the Stain arc and their ongoing friendship, so it all combines neatly.

#6. MIRINEJITAMA

If it wasn’t for Yuyu I’d probably proclaim this one a definitive endgame OT3. I’m not sure who parallels who in the TD/BK/DK olympics, though my best guess is Tamak=Deku, Mirio=Kacchan and Hado=Shoto, becasue Tamaki and Deku are the shy awkward serious boys with the big crush on optimistic blonde Kacchan/Mirio, and Hado/Shoto are the socially weird pretty ones who join the childhood friends to flirt heavily with both.

#5. BKDKJR

I’m sort of grouping in my head a number of Deku and Kacchan’s potential OT3s with the ladies of Class A here (honorary mentions here are BKDKMM, BKDKMN, & BKDKTSU), though my favorite of all those would be BKDKJIROU. Obviously BakuJirou is known enough as a ship - Kacchan inspiring her and saving her and all - and I have a real soft spot for DekuJirou despite them only interacting once, but it was a great one-time interaction. Definitely more of a crackship but I love it nonetheless.

#4. MMKMJR

One of class a’s most obvious OT3s. Obviously KamiJirou is a given - argumentative and lovable, and obviously IzuKatsu, respectively. And MomoJirou too have undeniable chemistry and make a great sister ship (paralleling TDBK). And I actually have a real soft spot for KamiMomo, mostly due to the light novels where they get to hang out and pseudo flirt/inspire each other a lot. So yep, definitely a winner of an OT3.

#3. TGTSCHK

So obviously Toga/chako has been having lots of feels lately due to this recent arc; they connect so crazy there and have something interesting coming in future. Toga also said she likes Tsuyu, so both ends have Toga, and TsuChako are just getting cuter together by the day, so this one’s another winner. I again think TsuChako parallels BKDK, so I guess Toga is their Shoto.

#2. BKDKOCHA

If Deku really must end up with Ochako, this is the option I will accept under those conditions. Kacchako has been rising on my favorite ships list (for no real reason, I just like them), so I’m definitely down with that corner. The original planned OT3 of the show! In the drafts, this trinity would have been the center of the story, a la Naruto, and probably would’ve been the OT3. But in the show we’ve got, we all know the One True OT3 is...

#1. TODOBAKUDEKU/TDBKDK

Yep, the core of the show. Big shock, it’s #1. 3 absolute slam dunk ships - BKDK the OTP, TDBK of the perfect chemistry and rom com love, and TDDK of the destined life changing inspiration. I’m not entirely sure how Shoto can work into the destined ‘win and save’ duo that is BKDK, but there’s so much affection between this OT3 - and they just click together so nicely - that I’ll bet the series is gonna work very hard to try.

But I guess I never really liked love square execution in the first place when it turned out that Marinette is butt of the crush joke for 3 seasons and there's 0 development from that. Jagged eventually learns that he has kids and is hesitant towards the idea, but because of him doting on Marinette (who’s the same age as his kids), he opens up to the idea.

Anarka and Jagged in present are mixed between tolerating each other for the sake of their kids and being chaotic best friends. The bad blood died out a while ago and there’s occasional tension but because Anarka is a single woman not interested in Jagged and Jagged is single with a possible thing for Penny, they make it work

Anarka and Penny have an awkward relationship. Penny wants to schedule time for Jagged to hang with Luka and Juleka and Anarka is confused at the very concept of a schedule, like just take them whenever okay??? isn’t it easier that way??? and Penny is like, “...oh, I guess so?”

Jagged and Penny, it depends on if they’re in any sort of relationship. If they’re in a relationship, Penny is either open to the idea of him learning to be good with kids if she’ll eventually want kids with him, or mixed because these are another woman’s kids and it’s really awkward. If they’re not in a relationship, then Penny could also be mixed since she’s crushing on him but I could also see her either finding it sweet that Jagged wants to hang out with his kids or finding it a hassle to schedule them in.

Jagged and Luka is rough. Luka has so many conflicting feelings on his idol ending up being his father. Jagged will probably even comment on Luka’s shirt + necklace and all of Luka’s merch in an attempt to bond but that kind of comes off desperate/awkward and Luka’s not about that life. I could also see Luka taking all the stuff down and swapping out his shirt, but being hesitant to remove the necklace because it’s a gift from Marinette. He might try to wash off the signature. He knows it’s not Jagged’s fault exactly but Anarka seemed to have bad blood with him and even if they get along now, Luka’s bitter. Jagged meanwhile wants to connect with Luka because hey musician energy!! but is gonna mess up a lot and say a lot of awkward things. Marinette will probably have to be a middle man between the two because it’s easier for them to talk with her around.

Jagged and Juleka don’t have a significant relationship at first. Juleka never care who her father was and she wasn’t crazy about Jagged Stone like Luka was. Jagged does try to connect with her but they clash majorly due to Jagged being so “loud” and Juleka being so quiet. Jagged will see it as a huge accomplishment the day where Juleka says something coherent (i.e: not a mumble) to him.

Yeah though, keep in mind for all of this that I’m not a family relationship kinda girl, so this isn’t my forte (I’m probably the most sympathetic to Jagged out of the whole fandom; not to say I agree with his actions but I have a history of hating babies and children, so not cool of him if he ditched Anarka but like, I get it, doesn’t make him better but I get it from a non-realistic standpoint of “ew, parenting”).

Her words are ignored, how she feels is ignored, because everyone else(including the girl squad, when they're supposed to be her "friends") tells her that she's supposed to be in love with Adrien, and so she "has" to go along with it because ENDGAME. It's the show saying "stupid naive Marinette, you're too immature and dumb to know how you really feel, let someone else do the thinking for you!"

Meanwhile Adrien moving on with Kagami is accepted even when he still flirts with Ladybug(and forces her to build up his ego when he asks her what she admires most about him; I know it was a spur of the moment thing, but meta-wise, it was obvious love square pushing.), because "he's trying to respect her feelings and date someone else!" It's one of the main gripes I have with the show: that teenage girls are too emotional and confused to know what they really want, but teenage boys are mature and rational enough to make up their minds about who they love without holding any animosity towards anyone.

The all-white, all-male writing team pushes the Chinese girl's feelings aside and forces her to hide and erase them if they're not want they want her to feel, while the white boy gets congratulated with a pat on the back for doing the bare minimum and always, ALWAYS, takes the moral high ground(even in superhero form when he's supposedly goofy.). When she's the lead.

It’s just tiring. It’s not even me being sick of the love square, but it being forced into everything when it’s not even relevant. The episode strategically throws more and more of Marinette’s Adrien crush (I did the math, I know this) into the mix and it provides nothing but the same tired jokes. Heck, they keep leaning on the lucky charm Marinette let him borrow (not GAVE, let him BORROW) back in Season 1 because they basically have nothing else to go off of.

Ok, ok, ok, ok. I am way too focus on this but I really really wanted to list out every Star Trek ship (from TNG, DS9, and VOY cause those are the ones I have seen most of) I could think of and give my opinion on it. Why? Because I don’t wanna do my math test. Lets go down the spiral of hyperfixation and little impulse control. (FYI, this became a long ass post, so read through if you want or don’t lol)

Let’s start from the beginning.

The Next Generation: (aka gays that all share one smart brain cell)

Picard x Crusher: Honestly, I like their chemistry, and if it became canon I would be alright with that. No real strong feelings on this ship.

Picard x Q: The epitome of enemies to lovers slow burn in 300k words. The sexual tension is too much to handle, I absolutely adore these two. They probably fucked once and Picard regrets it immeasurably.

Picard x Riker: Nah, not for me. But you do you dudes.

Riker x Troi: Again, I quite like these two together. Two Bi Icons getting together, I’m here for it.

Riker x Worf: Eh, Worf isn’t really a fav of mine so that makes me bias against this ship. It cool tho.

Riker x Crusher: *war flashbacks to when Crusher had sex with a Trill worm that was inside currently inside Riker’s body* Haha, fuck no.

Troi x Crusher: Two queens getting together and tearing down the patriarchy, I stan.

Troi x Tasha: I tend to block out season one of TNG from my mind, but honestly, I like the vibe.

Data x Geordi: My OTP for this show. It should have happened. Rick Berman is a coward. They are just so sweet and they understand each other like no one else. A few of their scenes in this show made me cry. I ship

Data x Tasha: Nah, I don’t vibe. Would have been better as mlm and wlw solidarity.

Worf x Troi: They had a few cute scenes together in the later seasons, I don’t hate neither super enjoy.

Deep Space Nine: (aka no straights in space)

Sisko x Kasidy: I liked them better in the early seasons. I think the writers low-key forgot about Kasidy until she was convenient plot device.

Kira x Odo: I preferred it in the first few seasons where Odo had a little crush on Kira and it was kinda adorable. But after their relationship had become canon in the later seasons I was kinda disappointed.

Kira x Jadzia: I am here for this ship, two powerful women ready to take on the world together but also have their own insecurities that come up as the situation arises. Immaculate, I want it.

Dukat x Kira: Fuck no, they are enemies. Idk why the DS9 writers thought it would be a great idea to pair THESE two together. But thank god for Nana Visitor for being such a queen.

Odo x Quark: Again, another amazing enemies to lovers ship. I love seeing those two on screen together, their chemistry is just *chef’s kiss*.

Miles x Keiko: Miles is like, the token heterosexual on this show. He loves his wife, his kids, and his job.

Bashir x Garak: Fuck yeah, OTP of this show for me gang. It was so heavily implied and it would have been so cool to see, especially in the 90s. But oh well, at least we got the actors writing and performing fanfiction for us.

Bashir x Jadzia: Yeah no, I wouldn’t ship them romantically. And the writers definetly did not favors to Bashir when they make his crush on her a bit creepy in the early seasons. But would be a BROTP for me.

Bashir x Ezri: Hnng, I don’t like. It just feels like Bashir is trying to date the Jadzia he never had and I don’t like it.

Jadzia x Worf: It’s fine, I guess. I don’t really see the chemistry.

Ezri x Jake: I mean, it’s better than Ezri x Bashir, but like, Dax has known Jake over 3 lifetimes and watched him grow up soooo, nah.

Jake x Ziyal: I am a fan. I think these two would have been really cool together especially since they are both artistic people with Jake’s writing and Ziyal’s painting. They could have done some really cool stuff together. Plus, it would make some interesting family reunion moments between Dukat and Sisko hehe.

Jake x Nog: Again, I am a fan. Tol and smol dynamics are what I am here for.

Garak x Ziyal: No

Voyager: (aka gays lost in space)

Janeway x Chakotay: The of the few straight ships I would die for. I am quite disappointed that nothing ever formed between the two because it would have been really cute and oh my god the tension the writers made between the two. I feel baited for this ship, AND IT’S A STRAIGHT SHIP! I’m sorry I have feelings about this.

Janeway x Seven: Not a top ship of mine but I definitely see the chemistry here and I support it.

Janeway x Paris: I only bring this up because in like season 1 or 2 they have axolotl children together because the writers were probably high as a kite when they came up with this idea for an episode. But a hard pass.

Janeway x Coffee: I’m pretty sure this is already canon and I stan.

Chakotay x Seven: I haven’t completely finished Voyager yet but I heard that this is the endgame for the two and WTF. I don’t see or understand it and it makes me upset, like really upset.

Chakotay x B’elanna: I’m just glad this wasn’t canon. I more just bring it up because I remembered B’elanna had a crush on Chakotay in the early seasons before Tom. And like, I get it because if Chakotay was my commanding officer I’d probably crush too girl.

B’elanna x Paris: It’s a canon ship that I honestly kinda like. There are some moments where I’m like “oh no” and other where I’m like “YES”. But overall, I enjoy it. I just feel like there is something missing.

Paris x Kim: Fuck yea, I love these two together. Two bros turned lovers I am fucking here for it my dudes. But again, I feel like there is something else missing here.

B’elanna x Paris x Kim: Oh hell yea, I found what was missing. This is my personal OTP of Voyager. In my head I think Kim and B’elanna are just really close friends who do engineering things together. While Paris is in the corner, loving them both, but also setting the Delta Flyer on fire for the third time this week. I haven’t really looked into the Voyager tag (because spoilers) so idk if this is a popular ship. But I think they all have some really fun chemistry and I enjoy it.

Paris x Delta Flyer: This just came to my head 20 seconds ago as I wrote the last one but I’m pretty sure this one is already canon.

Kim x Seven: Nah

Seven x The Doctor: Hmm, do I dislike it as much as I do Seven x Chakotay? No, I do not. But do I like it that much? No, no I do not. I ship them as friends.

Tuvok x Nelix: No, not really. Opposites attract is not really my cup of tea all the time.

Nelix x Kes: Oh damn, I almost forgot about Kes. I know this is canon but where did this come from. The writers NEVER EXPLAIN IT! And then they never explain why the later broke up. I just... I just don’t understand.

I doubt I have covered every ship, these were just the ones that came to me while writing this. Also, these are just my personal opinions please don’t come for my knees.

Only the characters from Virtue's Last Reward are in this AU because I played it for way more hours than 999 and kind of got more attached to the characters, and i never played ztd. The best explanation of who should be king after Jon killed Dany

OK guys, let’s assume that Dany did get mad, and Jon did have to kill her for peace. Let’s assume all of these crazy shits (but probably truly to the original book although GRRM would definitely do it much better and more persuasive than D&D) actually happened, then what next?

As in Westeros, what is the most important thing when people are talking about monarchy and thrones?

Still, blood and ancestry.

So, as Dany being killed, and Jon killed her to lose his right as a sinner, who is the next to the throne? A truly reasonable king who will persuade every man and woman in Westeros, and we know they are not easy to be persuaded, definitely will not be by the shit show D&D’s Tyrion gave in S806?

Gendry Baratheon, that’s it.

He is not only the only heir of Robert Baratheon, the last real king in Westeros, but he is also the last relative of Dany and Jon, as his great grandmother (Robert’s grandmother) is a Targaryen.

Gendry is strong, and he is one of the true heroes in the war with the Night King which saved everyone in the world. He marched beyond the wall with Jon, saved everyone in the group when they were surrounded by the wrights (although that running part is crazy and nonsense), created all of the dragon glass weapons to help Arya save every single fxxking living in this world (imagine without the weapon he made, Arya will be all dead before she can kill the Night King). After the war ended, Dany legitimated him by herself and everyone supported this decision (probably the best decision in the whole Season 8). He received Storm’s End not only by his blood, but also by his contribution. Everyone knew him as a strong and brave man, a fighter who stood at the very front of the war with the Night King when it began, and stood until the very end. Everyone knew it and they respected him deeply for this!

Also, Gendry is one of the small folks. He grew up in flea bottom. He will truly understand the life and pain of the ordinary people in this land (and Ser Davos as well)? Ser Davos should be his hands, because only they knows what the real disaster looks like to the small folks when the highborns played their game of thrones. The two of them will really care about their people, and give them peace and mercy they deserved.

Actually, this is exactly the ending of Wars of the Roses, which is the prototype of ASOIAF. At the end of the war, Henry VII from Lancaster married Elizabeth of York. Henry VII himself is not a bastard, but his mother’s great grandfather is a bastard son of John of Gaunt, who is a son of Edward III of England. So actually Henry VII is from a royal bastard family who happened to be the king by his blood because everyone in front of him died in the war.

And why North wants to be independent? Why? North never wants to be independent until Robert Baratheon died and Ned Stark was beheaded. Ned was always loyal to Robert. Yes, Arya and Gendry will marry. Arya is a strong and independent woman, a queen, and a ruler. She is not some heartless assassin or crazy explorer who comes out of nowhere (although it sounds cool, I admit). When she was young, she asked her father that if she could become a lord, after Ned told her that she could only be a lady, she denied that. She denied to become a bloody useless lady because all she wanted to be a lord who holds power herself. She will make sure that happened eventually instead of running away from her homeland to escape from the reality in which women cannot be treated as equally as men. Arya will fight for this unfairness instead of runaway!!!

Arya’s idol is Queen Nymeria, not Christopher Columbus! She will become a strong queen who lead the country and her pack to make this world a better place! She will make sure every girl in Westeros have the equal right to receive education like boys, and she will protect the right of every woman to choose their own life instead of being traded by their fathers and brothers. Arya is similar to Lyanna, and Lyanna fell in love with Rhaegar and gave birth to Jon. Even Arya's wolf, Nymeria, is ruling her own wolf pack as the queen. Why Arya will leave by herself alone, why?

And who will be better than Gendry, to support Arya as the real queen of the seven kingdoms? Who?

It was Gendry who knew the true-self of Arya from the very first day they met each other. It was Gendry who stood up for her when she was only a beggar boy to him. It was Gendry who protected her and being protected by her all the way along. It was Gendry who built up the weapon for her and admired her by her sharpness and power, besides her beauty. Gendry knows her, better than anyone else in this world. And Gendry loves her for who she really is, for her heart and soul. Their love is pure and beautiful. They stood together since their childhood, through the war with the Night King, and until the last war. They deserve each other so much!

Yes, they are strong, young, energetic, and full of life and potential. They will create healthy and beautiful children to inherit them. Comparing with them, Bran is much weaker physically, has less life, and will have no heir! Bran is the 3-eyed raven, who represents the Old Gods of ice, relating with coldness and death. Who will become better rulers for Westeros people? Life or death?

So, what the court will be like? If Dany died, Jon left, Gendry and Arya become king and queen?

the movie:

ok it’s not that bad, i definitely expected it to be worse. i didn’t really like the yellow ass color grading, like i felt like i needed to tell the movie “you can communicate 1930s without needing to make yourselves yellow”. i think my biggest two issues were the plot and natalie dormer’s character. starting with the plot, this movie was so jampacked with so many challenges i felt like i was watching 3 episodes of a tv show crammed into one. we started with the formation of steve rogers, then the rescue mission, then getting dr. zola (who played the villain in a sherlock episode and freaked me the FUCK out and now i can never look at him the same way), then killing schmidt (which didn’t even work because he ended up in iw + endgame??), then steve dying but then him not dying and waking up? there was just SO MUCH in so little time. second, what the FUCK was natalie’s character for. i love her but she was SO unnecessary. she simply served to add tension to steve and peggy’s relationship, which really only put them back like five minutes. that was never even cleared up, peggy just shot his shield and they kissed like 30 minutes later and everything was dandy.

steve and peggy:

god they’re so FUCKING CUTE and all they really care about is their country and finding the right person and i just watched the ending to endgame (a year later) and guess what? i STILL cannot handle it. thinking about how steve lived a whole life in the present but then also the 1930s but also not BAFFLES me and i don’t think about it but god that ending BROKE ME. i couldn’t listen to that song for a month without CRYING. in short, i probably will never watch endgame again.

also when i first watched it, i was BROKEN because that was a whole phase of my life; that was a DECADE of everyone’s life and it was over and it really hit me at the CREDITS. i was sobbing at the credits and thinking about how we’re never going to see steve or tony again.

anyway, back to peggy. honestly, one of the cutest, most solid relationships in the mcu. i just know that they never fight over anything and their favorite thing to do is dance and i imagine that steve makes her blush but not as much as she makes him blush and i just KNOW that steve would’ve been a huge part of the civil rights movement.

steve and bucky:

ok i’ve always heard about steve and bucky’s ~relationship~ and how they should’ve been gay but after finally watching the captain america trilogy, my only thought is REALLY???

like yeah, they’re great friends and all, and both of them are devastatingly attractive, and they love each other, but not romantically

honestly i feel like this ship really came about because in the other two movies, steve’s accepted that he’s never going to be with peggy, so the closest thing he can have from his old life is bucky and steve sees in bucky everything he ever wanted. and so, of course the audience loses sight of peggy as well and is like “stucky uwu”. but NO. peggy’s the greatest woman who ever lived and the better half of steve rogers and she DEF would’ve been able to lift mjolnir.

hot take: girls only wanted stucky to happen because they’ve never seen a real, wholesome, supportive male friendship in their lives because boys are too stuck inside their toxic masculinity bubbles to demonstrate true love for each other and so girls see stucky and think that they’re in love but really they’re just a great example of male friendship that no one sees anymore

agent peggy carter + why she deserves the world:

she’s so incredibly headstrong and marvelous and is so accountable for herself and calm and cool and collected and lovely in all of the best ways. i know she got a tv series (that lasted 2 seasons), but i feel like she should’ve gotten her own movie. she’s a great push for feminism, we would’ve gotten more steve content (maybe?), and who doesn’t love the 30s.

i just feel like the black widow movie doesn’t matter since she’s DEAD. like i don’t need to go back in time to see her origin story.

movie studios should’ve made pushes for female movies when obviously APPROPRIATE.

peggy carter? should’ve gotten her own movie after this one

black widow? needed the solo movie right before or after the first avengers; would’ve been great!

but now? it’s just unnecessary

marvel:

ever since we did our ranking, i’ve been thinking about marvel as a business and its role in the entertainment industry. the last time i watched thor: ragnarok, i remember thinking that it was a great movie, which it is(!), but it wasn’t the best. and after our ranking, i realized, it really is the best.

i guess i’m disappointed that marvel is really an entity for the blockbuster industry, and not at all for the advancement of the movie industry. i wish directors would be more creative and imaginative; take taika waititi, who took the least-liked set of movies and made it AMAZING. i feel like marvel needs to stop JUST using the russo brothers or that feige guy, whatever his name is, and try reaching out to new directors to incite creativity.

i was looking at a letterboxd list which had every mcu movie with the new releases and there’s going to be about FORTY (total) of them in the next four years, series and/or movie. at some point, we will get bored of the same formula OVER and OVER again.

look at james bond: no one really took them seriously until daniel craig, who (and of course, the abundant group of masterful moviemakers behind him) practically breathed new life and made them something to look forward to. the bond movies used to be a blockbuster, money-making venture, and now it’s taken seriously. i hope marvel does this soon, because in a couple years, their fanbase will become the diehard marvel comic-reading fans and the people who are too sucked in to let go.

black panther, and why it just doesn’t work:

don’t get me wrong, LOVED black panther. such a bold, great movie to finally(!!!) introduce black people into the mcu and done so well. HOWEVER, the movie itself fell a little flat. the whole villain plot? so eh. i thought klaue was way more interesting than killmonger, and they really just brushed him aside within five minutes.

it’s kind of like cmbyn in the fact that their visuals and sheer presence outshine EVERYTHING ELSE, especially in the first watch.

also, it got NOMINATED FOR BEST PICTURE. i totally understand the other awards it won (best soundtrack, costume design i think, and one other one) and that’s so amazing that marvel finally broke out of its blockbuster mold into the INDUSTRY

however, it got nominated for BEST PICTURE which is so WHAT THE FUCK (ok i’ll let the nom slide though, the 2019 picks were lowkey hella bad and this was the year that GREEN BOOK won)

if ANY marvel movie should’ve ever been nominated and/or won, i think it’s thor: ragnarok or iw; black panther just seemed like such a “look! we’re diverse, can’t you see?” type of move and i was NOT a fan

Random Tangent About Ships & Cheating SLs

So, I was talking with my friend Lauren (@backtothestart02) yesterday about how when it comes to watching our shows and seeing certain ships of ours having cheating sls & how that affects how we feel towards them. This convo kinda came about cuz of the recent development we’ve heard about on Riverdale where Betty & Archie are gonna be cheating on their respective significant others with each other in the next episode... Which, okay, at this point I don’t even watch the show anymore since it sounds like it’s pretty much on crack these days (at least more than usual lol) so this isn’t your typical rant about “OMG HOW DARE YOU MESS WITH MY OTP LIKE THAT” in regards to that sl (re: yes, Bughead was my ship when I watched it but my investment in the show has been pretty much non-existent for way over a year now so that’s not my goal with this rant fyi lol) It’s just more the frustration of the excitement I’ve seen from people being all “YAY CHEATING” Cuz, yeah ok, it’s a silly TV show. Obviously. I get that lmao It’s just the reactions I’ve been seeing that are funny cuz there’s people who talk about toxic relationships and normally how cheating is a dealbreaker but in this one specific case we’re all suddenly cool with it... Okay lmao but yeah, if the ship has to happen because a character died or cheating is involved... doesn’t that already cheapen that new relationship too (and their character development along with it? lol)

Anyway, I actually just really wanted to use this as a chance to rant about my ships that made me deal with cheating sls and why those are basically the worse “obstacles” a show can throw at ships. At least that is, if you want people to root for them long term. lol Cheating obviously happens in real life, but then that’s usually the end of a relationship. Which is why I don’t think it’s surprising that when it comes to fiction, I find the element of cheating to be something that kinda taints my otps for me if it occurs in the story.

I can think of a couple of cases where I was able to accept it cuz the show mostly did right by them after the situation by showing the growth and how that would never been an issue again. But the cases where the cheating happens and it just feels like this thing that makes it so you can’t enjoy any of the things that came before it with that couple? That sucks. It feels cheap and like, really bad writing.

I think my thoughts on this subject stems all the way back to my very first TV ship: Jackie & Hyde from That 70′s Show. Anyone who really watched that show remembers that 2 episode arc of where Hyde thought Jackie cheated on him with Kelso (she hadn’t ofc but he did see her comforting him in a way that would be suspicious considering Kelso had wanted her back) so he cheated on her with a random nurse as payback. I remember watching the next episode heartbroken at the scene where Hyde has to tell her what he did after he realizes that he pulled that move for no reason at all and Jackie ultimately breaks up with him on the spot. Which I applauded her for. Because the girl had gotten cheated on by Kelso so much that she vowed that she wouldn’t let that happen to her again. Her relationship with Steven was supposed to be different, and up until that point, had been. It was a step back for all the development they had spent with them all season, but with how raw Hyde was during that scene and the scene where he tells Jackie that he loves her (evidenced by the fact that he actually isn’t wearing his usual sunglasses in either of those scenes), it can be said that it was clearly just a momentary regression. Do I think they could have handled it better towards getting them back together? Yeah. But then it was a sitcom so you gotta keep that in mind too. lol Otherwise, they mostly did right by them once they were back together until things got shaky again. But then this rant isn’t about how they deserved the endgame they were supposed to get and were robbed of. LOL But yeah, this is one of the rare cases they weren’t completely tainted for me.

Another case of a ship where cheating happened, but in this case did have my ship pretty much tainted for me at the time was Joan & Adam on Joan of Arcadia. This is more a lowkey scenario cuz nobody who sees this will know them basically but I loved them dearly and I watched that show (pun not intended at all lol) religiously when it was on so when that sl came very much out of nowhere I was (I’d say) rightfully upset about it. There was no reason to have Adam cheat on Joan. It was just plain character assassination of a fan favorite, and for what? Drama??? I still have no idea. All I know it was a far cry from the boy who charmed his way into Joan’s heart in S1 who wasn’t even thinking about sex when they got together (Heck, *she* was the one who thought they were supposed to have sex in S1 at one point and again, that wasn’t even on his radar at the time lol). Enter later S2, he makes her feel pressured about them doing it a bit and then later he cheats on her with this random girl that we saw a couple times talking to him because of this... Um?? That’s just bad writing cuz it’s OOC. lol What’s worse is that Joan found out about this in the 19th episode of the season so when the show got cancelled, there had been barely any development after that. There was some since there was like 3 episodes or so after that, which meant there was just enough time to get them to a sorta neutral place with each other since they had the same friend group but otherwise, not much closure for shippers. Which was frustrating. You can’t just take that sharp of a turn in the story that late in a season with an unguaranteed next season with your main couple, especially if the cheating is coming out of left field. You just can’t, not if you want me to root for them at least. So.... yeah. That was bad. lol Definitely an example of why sometimes cheating does not need to be a storyline on a show.

I was trying to think if there were any ships before this one that i would want to mention, and there might have been, but I can’t think of them at the moment. Which means next on the list is Zoe & Wade on Hart of Dixie. They’re still a big otp for me, which does show I was able to move past their cheating sl but again, they did get tainted a bit too. In some ways, their sl gave me some deja vu with Jackie & Hyde. At least in the way that the guy chooses to sleep with someone in a very rash way, and you just know this is gonna lead to an automatic breakup the second the girl finds out. There was no denying Zoe was gonna break up with him. It was heartbreaking to watch her come to the realization that he had cheated on her. And it was frustrating because it felt like they only got to be a proper couple for like maybe 4 episodes and then they pulled that move. It was like, you’ve been setting me up to root for this couple and... now what? They had undeniable chemistry so I guess the writers always counted on that for when they would ultimately bring them back together and they were right. I was able to root for them again, and it helped there had been some time that had passed (a whole season of them not being together!) and I was missing them a lot. But that said, it still felt like a misstep. Because when you wanna write a breakup, we should just throw in a cheating sl then? There were plenty of other ways to break up Zade, but they went in that direction. It just felt very lame, lazy and pure character regression in a way that didn’t make sense with the story they were telling imo. They were able to show that Wade had matured later on so it worked out, but this is one that made me upset so thank goodness they made up for it. lol

Okay, the last ships I’m gonna mention briefly are both on The Bold Type.

Everyone in that fandom has expressed their frustration with how they handled the Kadena sl where Kat cheated and then they tried to have a open relationship to let her explore a bit or whatever in S2. I actually get where it wasn’t that bad cuz Adena told her she could see the other girls. Enter the next season, Kadena have sex when Kat is still in a relationship technically (I don’t care if she got the approval to see if there were still feelings there or not from Tia, that didn’t mean sleep with the ex. That meant talk) This is one of those cases where for me, cheating is never the ideal way to bring a ship back into the story. I know it happens but this didn’t make Kat or Adena look that great as characters for me. I know shit happens, just saying from a preference. Not gonna get deep into the awkwardness of S4 between these two, beyond saying that after S1, it does seem like the writers don’t fully know how to write them now still. They were a fan favorite ship for the show, and I think despite the bad writing for them sometimes in these later seasons, still are, but they really gotta start being more consistent with them if they want them to be rootworthy again. And please write Adena in character my goodness. The way they wrote her in 4x07 was just not it.

Which brings me to Janestripe,

They seriously dedicated a whole first half of a season dragging out the reveal that Ryan did more than kiss the lady he cheated on Jane with. I know beforehand the majority of the fandom hated Ryan already and thought Jane should have been with Ben instead, which honestly... ok, whatever. I still say Jane was having doubts about Ben so she was already starting to check out of that relationship a bit before Ryan declared his feelings for her at the end of S2. That said, once again, cheating isn’t ideal so I liked that Jane turned him down until she broke things off with Ben. I think people forget that the person in the middle of a triangle is making a choice and just cuz it’s not the choice you the viewer wanted doesn’t necessarily mean that it has to be the wrong one. Frankly, Ben was kinda dry for me. Idk. Anyway, I appreciated that they were trying to tell a story of growth for Ryan... Until they weren’t. lol They really could have kept it as a kiss but they started planting those little signs that it wasn’t between Ryan looking guilty during convos and then him telling the story again about what happened & it sounding like bullshit. We all knew but they made us wait 9 eps for Jane to figure out. Which was frustrating. I get what message they were trying to send in the end and I respected that but they couldn’t do it faster?? They were sending a lot of signs they were making them endgame by showing how serious they were getting but now? I don’t see them ever interacting again, unless they did find a reason to bring Ryan back but Idk. I just don’t get painting them in that kinda light if you were just planning to tear them down before the season was even over, you know? They could have just ended them in S3 and I would have got it. But they dragged it out into a whole another season and why??? lol

Why must these tropes exist?? All they do is cause drama in fandoms. Which is prob why I don’t do them in the first place. lol

Coming Back

! Endgame Spoilers!

This is an Endgame Fix it, because that is what we need in our lives, but it’s angsty.

Peter gets back to school after everything that happened, but because of time travel he’s one of the few who remembers what happened. While watching a documentary about Mars he has a flashack, Tony is there

Peter was walking through the halls of the school, it was the first day after they defeated Thanos and it was all great. Except that it wasn’t. You see he was the only one there who remembered. They had gone back in time and fixed everyone, so no one here remembered being dusted and the five years that passed, just the heroes.

They had brought Tony back, but Peter could still remember him dying right before his eyes. He still remembered turning in to dust and waking up without Tony on a planet in outer space. He still remembered running for his life with the gauntlet while being bombed. He still remembered.

Of course life was good now, it was like it had been before, his last year in hell. Everyone stressing over colleges and so on. Tony and Pepper were expecting Morgan, which had to weird for them, since they already watched her grow up till four once, but Peter was excited to be in her life from the start.

They were now also friends with Doctor Strange which was cool. Peter chilled in the sanctum from time to time and he helped with his biology homework and Wong was super cool and showed him tricks. He hoped he could learn them and one day just yeet a criminal through a portal.

He was pulled out of his musings by Ned who bumped into him. He smiled encouraging to Peter and gently lead him down the hall. He knew how hard it was for Peter, after all he was the second person he called when he got back and he cried for a hours on the phone with him. They had also talked about how cool everything was, but Ned knew that most of it was traumatic as fuck.

They sat in their homeroom and listened to the teacher welcoming everybody back after the disruption of two day ago. That really messed with Peter for a second, but then he realized that for the people around him it was just a weird weekend with reports of deaths that turned out to be fake and people coming from space.

From besides him Flash leaned in and whispered: “Must have been really busy with all that by your Stark internship. Oh, I forgot, it’s fake.”

Peter balled his fists and bit on the inside of his cheek. He blinked away tears and fresh memories. Those weren’t fake, yet here they were. He thought about everything he went through and then he thought fuck it and shot back: “Shut up, Flash. I do not need your input right now.”

That startled Flash, he hadn’t expected puny penis to talk back. He wanted to react, but the homeroom teacher told them to be quiet so he settled for a glare. Peter turned his head away and looked out the window. The sky was clear, birds were tweeting and everything was normal. He took a deep breath and looked back to the teacher. Just go through the motions, he thought.

And that is what he did. He walked from classroom to classroom, stared emptily at the teacher, ate when they were supposed to and ignored Flashes taunts. Ned was getting worried about him. Peter did exactly what he always did, but he had barely said anything to Ned and he had this void look in his eyes that Ned didn’t like. He missed the vibrancy and liveliness of his friend, but he didn’t say a thing about it, he just talked for the two of them and cheered inside every time Peter said something back.

The next weeks went by all the same. Everyone knew something was up with Peter, but no one really know what. It was so bad that even Flash had just stopped, not that Peter really noticed. He did start talking more. He told about the weekends, which he spend with Tony in the labs. His voice did always become a little tight with the name, but that decreased as well through the time.

After ten weeks he finally started to be like he had been before Thanos happened. Ned had noticed he had become better, but it wasn’t until he sassed MJ, whom they had become closer with, that Ned saw his best friend completely again. The proud look and the little smirk he gave 100% Peter Parker.

This was all ruined in science class three days later. The teacher had put on a documentary about Mars. They showed of the red sandy planet with the two moons and they talked about how it was named after the Roman god of War. Ned didn’t really notice it at first, but besides him Peters breath became quicker and quicker until he was practically hyperventilating.

He got attention when he fell to the ground with wide eyes while whispering: “I don’t wanna go, Mr. Stark, I don’t want to go, please.”

He was rocking back and forth on the ground and there seemed to come no end to the constant apologies mixed with pleads. Ned dropped down next to Peter, he had seen this once before and it still haunted him. He put his hand on Peter shoulder and the other boy clutched to him in seconds while brokenly asking: “Mr. Stark?”

Gently Ned said: “No, Peter, it’s Ned. Mr. Stark is at home right now, but he’s still here. You are here. It’s OK, whatever you’re seeing, it’s not real. Just your brain playing tricks, just focus on me. You’re in the classroom, not where you think you are. Don’t you feel that hard solid floor, do you smell the bad cafeteria food? You’re on earth and in school. Everyone is safe, it’s OK. Just breath with me.”

Ned started breathing exaggeratedly and Peter tried to follow suit. The teacher had put the documentary off and everyone was just looking at the broken boy trying to put himself together. After a while of breathing he blinked a few times and felt Neds face, he whispered the boys name and then he felt the floor and the chair he had sat on. He took a few more breaths, before pulling out his phone.

He called someone and no one stopped him, they didn’t even dare to move, afraid they would scare the already fragile boy. Before the first tone was done the person on the other side picked up and said something. Peter chocked on a relieved breath and he said: “You’re alive.”

They couldn’t hear the reply, but Peter said: “It happened again. I’m sorry for bothering you.”

Then after a second Peter answered the other person: “We, we were watching this documentary about Mars and, and it just really looked like Titan and I, I, I couldn’t help it. I just was back, back there and I was,was.”

More tears flowed down his face, but he continued nodding at something the other said. When he could speak again Peter said: “Thank you, Tony. I will take you up on that. I’ll text May. See you.”

Then he hung up and said to the teacher: “Can Ned or MJ please take me to the nurse. I think I’m going home.”

She just nodded and herded him and Ned out the door before the rest of the class regained their senses. She didn’t see MJ slip out as well. In the hall they smushed Peter between them. He had once told them that he needed closeness after an attack and that Tony and he would cuddle on the couch, sometimes with Pepper or he and May would lie together in her bed.

They sat in the nurses office for twenty minutes before the door swung open and Tony appeared. Peter shot up from his spot between Ned and MJ to fly into Tonys outstretched arms. Tony thanked them both over Peters head, then he proceeded to carry the teenager out of the office.

Ned and MJ watched them leave and smiled sadly at each other. Peter wasn’t OK, he was far from it, but he had people around him and they would make sure he was as OK as he could be. Then they went back to their classroom to stop the rumors before they began and to kick anyone who talked shit about their friend.

Game of Thrones – 8x04 “The Last of the Starks” episode analysis – or who the fuck ever let D&D write stuff

You know I am pretty much like this dude here –

so I will be the woman to lead this ship or so help me all the old gods and the new.

Spoilers, d’uhh.

Aftermath - but everyone has their wardrobe on fleek, hair looking fab and they even had time to clean the entire field of Winterfell

The episode starts with the funeral pyre and how DARE you make me love Jorah even more and twist the knife in my heart. And did you have to show me Theon, Beric, Edd’s and Lyanna’s bodies???

RUDE.

Jon is doing a big speech and it is nice and drove the sobbing further, but I get it this is Jon’s turf so he has to be the one making the big speech. That is such a Dany thing though, and I can’t help to think, when put into perspective with the rest of the episode, that it’s yet again a thing Dany has lost. But more on that later.

The pyres are lit, sad music, more sobbing from me. OOOPS BUT DID YOU CATCH THAT JONERYS EXCHANGE OF LOOKS? Because I did! I can’t help but think how he looks at her for reassurance and she feels it and she turns and she is just.so.broken. And then she cries and I cry again.

A feast for crows the survivors

And then we get a feast and suddenly everyone is happy and stuff… ok, I guess life goes on. Maybe Sandor’s crass remark, under the guise of a funny moment, was meant to make us think on it. But maybe that’s too deep for D&D who the fuck knows.

Let’s talk about Gendry’s legitimisation.

Dany does it quite publicly, and small exchange between her and Tyrion makes sense. Honestly, if she hadn’t done it herself then and there, it would have come up at a later point, but with 2 episodes left there’s no time. S.ansa does her shady looks because she throws shade and Bran just stares into the void smh.

In which I am the Hound unimpressed and eating his chicken.

The Lord of Light fucked off into the sunset when he saw D&D’s piss poor writing and honestly same. He probably fucked off when he saw Melisandre was still getting his prophecies wrong.

The set up for Dany saying ILY it’s a bit .. ehh. But her actual words: “He loved me, but I couldn’t love him back, not the way he wanted it. Not the way I love you. Is that alright?”

A+ scene. I love how he can’t help himself and as soon as she is in his arms’ range he just pulls her into him, BEFORE she asks “Is that alright?”.

Uff emo side note here, this scene and this phrase reminded me of this song. Listen and sob. you’re welcome.

On that depressive note, wow that make out tho. Two things I learned from this scene: 1 - Jon is horny drunk, which same; and 2 - Jon is a tiddies guy like he dove in and went for the tiddies, which also same. Am I Jon? Is this why I keep guessing his fucking reactions but D&D won’t give me the rest????? We’ll never know.

And… then Jon stops and pulls back. And I KNOW that in the BTS we are told he is disgusted or whatever along those lines, but to me?? That look means he is CONFLICTED. And listen, if y’all wanted it to make it to mean "disgusted" then you should have made Kit do it differently since YOU KNOW HE WAS FAKE GAGGING TO EMILIA EVERY OTHER MINUTE. YOU CAN’T KEEP ADDING SHIT LATER YOU FUCKING DUMBASSES YOU EITHER PUT IT IN THE ACTUAL SHOW AND THE ACTUAL ACTING OR STFU.

But I guess to me that rejection was more for the general audience than for us. C’mon he clearly loves her, his dick was so hard he was about to nut then and there. I digress. Then Dany echoes what Jon himself thinks/said - wishing she would have never known. And then we get something that I felt when she was alone and sad at the feast. “I saw the way they looked at you. I know that look; the same way people looked at me, but never on this side of the sea” - yeah so I need a break.

This here - cemented for me what I think the show is doing: stripping everything away from Dany: her armies, her children, her people and the love her people have for her… then Jon. And I don’t mean that as in the sense of some bullshit fleak. No, I mean it in the context of this episode. Because Jon never says I love you back (and maybe @normalisjustafairytale is right and Jon is afraid to say it after Ygritte), and he rejects her, and he says he can’t NOT tell his sisters, even if Dany begs him not to. So in a sense, for now at least, Jon is being taken away from her. So you have all this isolation and losing and losing and then what does she have left? The only constant in her life? The fucking Iron Throne. Because at the moment there is nothing else for her and she probably feels like she will be nothing without it. Hence why she presses to go and take Cersei down. I won’t lie to you, it is cheap writing and very lame and honestly I have read fics a million times better than this bullshit, but they will, at one point, hit us with the boatie reveal, and when that happens, and when Jon fucking finally pulls through and stands by her side, she will have something else, a different constant in life. Moreover, because she realises that the people here in Westeros will never love her, she will have even more of a reason to bow out, say a big fuck you, take her boatie and her hubs and get to her house with the red door.

This is not just wishful thinking, it is very much D&D, and they will of course “humble the powerful woman” (I puked in my mouth by writing that). But also, my consolation is that with this episode, heck even the people who weren’t necessarily her fans, are on her side and asking her to burn KL down. Which I don’t think she would, but more on that in a different post. God this post is already long.

Missandei’s death made me sick to my stomach and traumatised me for life. We should all collectively agree to NEVER give D&D our attention again and never let them write anything again.

Missandei hatefully spewing DRACARYS as her last words was so strong it made me start crying because holy shit this was a peaceful person, and for her to show this much hate and rage was so gutting… fuck me. I am crying again. I think she also meant, besides from the obvious, “there is no reasoning with these people, so why bother. Might as well blow it the fuck up.”

And Grey’s reaction wow - again, I was about to puke, despite the scene not being the most gorey on GoT, but it was so intrinsically and viscerally wrong my mind could not deal.

In conclusion

Poor Dany, she has lost everything. EVERYTHING. She is literally at her lowest. After the discussion with Jon, she slipped back the Queen mask - like you can pinpoint the moment she does so! And she keeps it on in front of everyone else but her dragons.

I am expecting a very very cold (but very fragile inside) Dany in 8x05. I am expecting her to push Jon away. Oh and at the ending of 8x04 she totally just gets up on Drogon and goes back to Dragonstone. No way she does anything yet so soon.

I haven’t watched any of the BTS and Making of videos, nor have I watched the 8x05 promo. Will do soon.

Stay strong, jonerys is still going strong. I am here until the very end and I still think this will end with jonerys together. Will it be good writing? Nope. But it will end well. As I keep saying. We’re missing the “sweet” in this fucking “bittersweet” shit show. Stop saying it ends badly because of 8x03.

S4 So Far: Fucking Why? A take on the use of emotions and romance as a character development/narrative device compared to past seasons

OK so I literally only slept 3 hours last night after watching the eps, and it was a shitty 3 hours, so apologies if anything is jumbled or incoherent. This post is about why Season 4 as a whole (at least with the character relationships overall, not just romance and not just Starco) feels to me like such a gigantic and unnecessary fundamental writing/focus shift compared to past seasons (especially 1 and 2, but also 3).

Curse was... obviously just a slap in the face, a full descent into “will-they-won’t-they” for no purpose other than dragging it out, since it CONFIRMED that Star and Marco have true mutual love for each other and basically directly stated to the audience in the dance that, no, this isn’t because of the curse, it’s genuine, but decided more love polyhedra and suspense and drama were needed. NOTE THAT I FULLY ADMIT AND ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THEIR FEELINGS ARE REAL, THEIR DANCE HIGHLY AFFECTED ME, AND IT WAS A VERY STRONG EMOTIONAL MOMENT. I’m not trying to imply that it meant absolutely nothing, not at all, I’m more talking about its purpose in the narrative than the emotions it contained as an isolated scene when I say “it had no purpose other than to drag things out.” Not sure exactly where we go from here, but I know Starco’s still endgame, and I also know that the route there is gonna be at least some level of disappointment to me. No way around that, but I think it’s worth looking at the rest of the season to dig into what just feels different in a bad way, because it’s really not just Curse. I feel like half the fandom is freaking out simply over just the fact that they claimed they didn’t feel anything anymore, and worrying about the suspense and drama over whether Starco would still happen at all, but that reaction is the goal of will-they-won’t-they, it’s why it works and why so few stories bother going beyond it, and I hate that. The point I want to tackle and criticize isn’t “I’m worried Starco won’t happen!” but rather a look at the overall handling of characters and relationships in the show narratively.

Let’s start with a look back on earlier seasons. I should hope that anyone could agree watching the first 2 seasons that Star and Marco’s relationship was very strongly built on a foundation of emotional intimacy, honesty, supporting each other and understanding each other, etc. Even if you’re not a Starco shipper, even if you’re anti-Starco as a couple and see them as entirely platonic, this much at least should hopefully be agreeable to everyone, because it’s like 80% of what the show contained until the middle of S2 actually got some plot going. Once we get into season 3, it becomes a lot more contentious among the fans, but there’s still a lot of this same stuff. Yes, Star and Marco spend less screentime together, but the majority of moments they share feel special, and have a strong emotional core with moments between them. Toffee, Lint Catcher, Sweet Dreams (sort of), Night Life, Deep Dive, Marco Jr., Booth Buddies, Divide/Conquer - every single one of these had a clear focus on why Star and Marco’s relationship, specifically, was important and special to them, and what made them work so well as a pair. Not just “they go on an adventure together to accomplish a goal.” Granted, not EVERY single episode in any season was like this, all three of the past seasons did have episodes that were just the basic adventure, but this was still an overall important part of the pacing of the show even if not omnipresent. And yes, absolutely, other characters had meaningful emotional moments and bonds with each other as well. Bonbon provided payoff on a genuine emotional honesty that Marco had been building up with Jackie in Sleepover and Naysaya, not just romance for romance’s sake but feeling like it had a purpose, it made total sense why Marco and Jackie had feelings for each other and why they did to some extent work together. Demoncism for Tom and Star was another such moment, capitalizing in some part on Star’s heartbreak, yes, but still serving as a turning point with a genuine purpose to both their characters as they tried to take steps forward as people first, and they bonded over that. Similarly, Is Another Mystery built off of Monster Bash for Tomstar and specifically Tom’s issues with caring about others. Things flowed as a whole across the season, even if not in a way that involved Star and Marco constantly on screen together.

Now let’s look at S4 as a whole thus far. As far as Starco is concerned... what moments like this have we had? When has their relationship been clearly special to them as a normal part of their day to day lives and not just in some epic WOW moment? I guess the end of Follies, and the hug in Ransomgram if you squint just a little bit, but even then, the actual emotional core of that episode really didn’t have anything to do with Star and Marco’s relationship with each other specifically. All their other episodes are just very basic “Star and Marco perform an activity for some episodic plot purpose” with no heart or soul put into their dynamic itself. Then we get to Curse, where apparently Marco’s feelings for Star are so strong that he’s constantly beside himself with emotion over them, and Star’s for Marco obvious enough that even dense as fuck Tom knows. In any past season, these things would’ve been firmly built up over the course of meaningful Star and Marco moments across a handful of segments leading up to it, so... why not now? We had a single tangential reference to it on Star’s end in Lake House Fever, and Marco saying how hard it’s been in Kelly’s World immediately beforehand, and that’s it. Not to mention that Marco apparently has budding feelings for Kelly (despite not having had any meaningful emotional moments with her Lava Lake Beach, a full season ago), after only one episode in Season 4. Bonbon had Sleepover and Naysaya for Jarco, Demoncism had Club Snubbed for Tomstar, what did Kelly’s World have? To me, right now, it feels like emotions/romance in teen relationships in the show 180′d overnight from a genuine part of their day to day lives and interactions that ebb and flow naturally and subtly to “le epic shipping drama with blushes and handholding to get people’s feely-weely uwuing to the max and ready to tune in for more,” and this feels like a HUGE departure from the storytelling method of literally everything before Season 4.

EDIT: Let’s not ignore Curse itself either, though. The idea of destiny vs free will, and Star and Marco choosing to be with each other on their own terms entirely is cool on paper. Issue is, LITERALLY NOTHING IN THE SHOW UP TO THIS POINT HAS GIVEN OFF THE IDEA THAT IT’S MAGICALLY FORCED. Many fans postulated it, but the show never brought it up as a problem to be handled later, and put explicit care into all their developments being entirely natural. The “Blood Moon Curse” was a problem with very little buildup in the narrative, created specifically to start an arc that as an isolated thing seems fine, but ends up just fucking with what they’d already developed and delays the outcome more and more.

Maybe, best case scenario, all of this is just kind of wonky pacing for no clear reason, the show is known to fuck that up even at its best, but the overall progression will still be kind of fine. Maybe we fairly quickly enter an arc where they try to live their new lives, free of feelings, and they allow themselves to get closer to each other without reservation because they think the feelings are gone and begin to find genuine joy and happiness in their relationship (as a result of the love which is still there, but the placebo effect that they think it’s gone makes them open themselves up to it after seasons of trying to hide from it). Maybe this results in Kellco not really going anywhere, with like one episode of them trying to make it work and failing because Marco’s heart still isn’t in it, and Tomstar also breaking up because they both finally accept that even the Blood Moon going away didn’t change anything, and we’re still set for a Big Moment somewhere around Cornonation-Beach Day to be Star and Marco fully accepting and recognizing their love, on their own terms, with every bit of denial and every obstacle behind them, giving us at the VERY least a handful of segments before the end to showcase some day-to-day canon Starco, show why it works for them and why it makes them so happy, and to show Tom (and Kelly too, maybe?) being OK with the situation and finding fulfillment in it themselves. Then the series finale could be the final push for Starco, from “our feelings are real and we want to pursue them without any doubts” to “I want to spend the rest of my life with you”. I’d still overall call this a lot of unnecessary drama and dragging, and still highly question everything about these first 8 episodes that I did, but I can’t deny there IS a symbolic/narrative benefit for Curse here. It could serve as an important milestone where Star and Marco finally put the heartbreak and hurt their feelings cause behind them once and for all, which is sort of what a lot of people thought it would be anyway, and if things still move forward quickly as part of an arc then it would still perhaps accomplish something meaningful and not just dragging for drama.

Or maybe the rest of the season will largely follow the pattern of what we’ve had thus far, with everything through Cornonation being almost devoid of anything special in relationships, just showing characters interacting normally without any real developments, Star and Marco spending time together and Tomstar and Kellco being almost entirely background, with maybe one segment apiece just for fun. Then Beach Day could be a Big Ship™ episode that compresses all the lack of emotion into one giant over-the-top romantic episode where they finally start realizing “huh after the last 8 episodes of our normal friendship, guess we do actually still maybe feel something special after all” and then the breakup(s) happen afterwards as a result of “welp guess it won’t work, it’s been fun” with the series finale being when Star and Marco finally get to say “YES AFTER ALL THIS I NOW REALIZE I LOVE YOU” and kissing once and that’s the end of the show. Which still would be satisfying if for NO other reason than the first 3 seasons lingering in my mind, I still will almost certainly love Starco as a whole no matter what. But holy mother of fuck this would be the dumbest shit ever, a complete reversal on how they’ve always handled everything, for seemingly no other purpose than because they wrote themselves into a corner where they wanted to force Starco to only be series finale, but they also made it so strong in the first 3 seasons that its natural progression would make it canon before then so they had to fuck with it, and would make me almost regret being anything more than a casual appreciator of the show.

So all in all I’m still, for the time being, at least willing to see where it goes I guess, because Star and Marco are still firmly embedded in my heart even if the show’s handling of them in this final stretch turns out to disappoint me in almost every way imaginable. Unless things TRULY go to shit, I have some plans for some fanworks post-canon that will, if nothing else, help me and maybe some of you make peace with the potential the show will likely waste in rising above romcom drama to portray Starco actually blossoming into a fully happy and healthy canon romantic relationship to rule them all. But I will almost definitely not be staying up into the morning watching and freaking out about episodes, if the show is going to appeal to the lowest common denominator of casual romance drama, I suppose I need to become a casual viewer to compensate.
