Long Live
ethan edwards x reader (technically)
just me being nostalgic about team 100 tbh, around 500 words
The crowd at the Yost arena went wild the moment the puck touched the ice. The announcer was reading the names of tonight’s game starters and you were there cheering louder and louder for each name.
With each pass between Bordy and Briss felt like a grain of sand passing through the hourglass, bringing the end closer and closer.
Each pass, each check, each high five seemed like it could be the last one. “Remember this moment”, you said at the back of your mind. You didn’t know when one of the boys could be called up to the NHL. They would leave. And they would never play on the same team like this again. This family would never defend the same name like this, fight dragons together like this.
You were sitting on the edge of your seat or standing up every two seconds, clapping your hands, screaming your lungs out. Every game during the year lead to this one. Shivers were running down your spine and tears threatened to spill every time your mind wandered to the future and all its possibilities. You wanted to engrave the moment in your mind forever. The jerseys with your friends’ names on the ice looked like a picture that needed to be hung in a museum.
When KJ scored the winning goal, seconds before the end of the third, the arena erupted into cheers and screams. You were hugging the people around you, rejoicing about this win. The team just won the BIG10. You felt lightheaded from all the excitement and celebration.
On the ice, they were throwing their helmets, jumping into each other’s arms and hugging. Confetti guns went off and We Are the Champions started playing. Every player on that team had been wishing for right now for so long and they would remember this feeling, of winning this tournament with their friends, forever. The crowd was chanting “Long Live Team 100” and you were screaming along, your cheeks hurting from the smile that hadn’t left your face.
They exchanged their helmets for baseball caps with champion written on them and the trophy was brought in. The energy was still very much present in the arena and you knew this would go down in history books.
You ran to the side of the bleachers, right above the players entrance to meet him there.
Ethan caught sight of you from the ice. He was looking in your direction throughout the game and knew you would be there by the railing.
He left the ice, ran up to you and you blew him a kiss.
When suddenly, his teammates lifted him up. You bent down over the railing and connected your lips with his. He took off his cap and confettis fell out of his hair at the motion. Even through the kiss, neither of you could hold back your big grins. You pulled apart and smiled gazing into each other’s eyes. His green eyes were shining brighter than the lights in the arena, filled with ecstasy.
You knew you would forever remember this moment when you felt like the kings and queens.
