A/N: Alright so I started writing this when I was watching Episode 4 and then the end of Episode 5 happened and I saw red. Needless to say, I needed to write something to give Arthur the love and comfort he needs.

The night is biting cold, snow whipping around in a swirling vortex of ice and wind.
Late is the hour, barren streets proving Arthur Havisham should not be out. And yet, he is, his boots and walking stick echoing on the snowy stone. He does not feel nor notice the cold, his veins and belly filled with the heat of the gin he downed before leaving his small room. His back still aches, sharp pains every time his shirt brushes against the fresh cuts. It had taken all day to work up the courage to leave, only doing so when he was sure Compeyson would not be returning.
As he approaches the daunting building, he cannot help the cacophony of emotions rolling around in his stomach. It almost makes him sick but he pushes it down. However, that could also be the gin.
Arthur stops just shy of the gates, staring at the manor he hasn’t visited in years.
If it were up to him, he would not be here. He would not even be considering such a path. But as it was, he is desperate. Meriwether Compeyson has proven to be far more dangerous and more trouble than he’s worth. His interests are purely self-serving and if Arthur does not get the help he needs, he will have more than his reputation to worry about. His very life depends on it.
Taking a deep breath, Arthur opens the gate and follows the path to the front door.
A servant answers after several knocks. A young woman, one he’s never seen before. Then again, it’s been ages since he’s stepped foot in this house. She welcomes him in with a bow and offers him a place in the parlor where he can warm by the fire.
“Whom shall I say has called when I speak to the master?” she asks in a soft voice.
“Tell him Arthur is here to see him.”
She nods and hurries off to do as she’s told. Arthur takes off his hat as he stands before the fireplace, the heat of the flames trying to chase the chill away. It’s failing miserably because the chill Arthur is feeling has nothing to do with the winter night. He stares at the clock on the mantle, studying his reflection on its perfectly polished surface. He looks tired, his hair and clothes not as crisp or clean as he’s accustomed to. There are dark circles under his red eyes. He had stopped crying hours ago but it hasn’t yet faded. To him, he looks every bit the desperate scared man he is.
Footsteps sound on the main stairs.
Arthur’s heart races in time with them, listening as they draw closer, his breathing increasing with each second that passes.
“Well, well, well, as I live and breathe.”
Arthur closes his eyes for a moment, bracing himself for the onslaught of emotions as he turns around to face you.
He’s not prepared. He thought he would be, but the moment he lays his eyes on you everything else melts away leaving you the only thing in focus. The state of your clothing suggests he interrupted your evening routine, as he knew he would. A simple white shirt, unbuttoned at the top with the sleeves loose around your crossed arms. Complimented by finely tailored trousers and shiny black boots.
“I apologize for the late hour,” Arthur says, swallowing past the lump in his throat. “Unfortunately, I could not wait until morning.”
“You’re always welcome here, Arthur. I believe I made that clear once upon a time.”
Yes. Yes, you did. Arthur remembers it vividly despite his best efforts. He finds himself fiddling with the hat in his hands. “I didn’t know where else to go.”
You regard him with a carefully schooled expression. He knows you’re taking him in, seeing the same things he scrutinized in his own reflection.
“Come,” you say, motioning for him to follow. “Leave your hat and such here. The maid will take care of it. You look like you could use a hot meal and a large drink.”
You’re not wrong.
Hands shaking, Arthur leaves his hat, coat, and walking stick on a nearby chair before following you out of the parlor. He knows where you’re leading him. He remembers running through these halls when you two were boys, hiding out and listening to your fathers talk business.
Pass the main dining room, down the small hallway to the left, and into your favorite room in the house, the sitting room. Your father made it yours when you grew into adolescence and Arthur remembers the lengthy chats the two of you shared in those comfortable winged-back chairs. Someone, no doubt the maid from earlier, had already brought the fire back to blazing and a silver tray sits on the table between the chairs.
Grateful for the warmth, Arthur takes the one on the right out of habit. It’s so ingrained from his younger years that he doesn’t even think about it. Although, when he means to lean back, he is stopped by pain and must remain sitting up straight.
You close the door behind you. He feels you watching him, feels the intensity of your gaze on the back of his head. When you cross the room and take the chair to Arthur’s left, your expression has changed. As it always did when you were alone.
Arthur envies you for that as much as he hates you for it. It’s a skill he has yet to master and yet you make it effortless. You make a lot of things effortless.
On the tray are two meat pies still warm but by no means fresh from the oven. Along with fruits and cheeses, and a steaming pot of tea which you pick up. You pour him some first.
“Tea isn’t exactly the drink I was hoping for,” Arthur says.
“But it’s what you need. You look chilled to the bone. Is the fire warm enough?”
It’d be easier if you weren’t so nice to him. Arthur almost prefers the opposite, when your personalities clash and that underlying rivalry bred into you by your fathers and their business comes to the surface. It makes what he has to say even harder.
“Yes, thank you,” Arthur says.
You hand him the tea and when he reaches for the cup, your fingers brush.
And linger.
But then you’re pouring your tea and he thinks he may have imagined it.
“Why are you here, Arthur?” you ask. “We haven’t spoken in years. Not at length at least. Not since that day.”
Yes. That day.
Arthur reminds himself of his purpose and does not dwell on the memories. “I am afraid I find myself in trouble,” he says. He’s holding his tea but has yet been able to take a sip. “And I can’t find my way out.”
“What sort of trouble?”
“The dangerous kind.”
You study him over the rim of your cup. After a thoughtful sip, you put it down. Leaning forward, you rest your elbows on your knees and give him your full attention.
“Start at the beginning,” you say.
Arthur does. He tells you everything. About the will, his meager inheritance. His plan to manipulate his sister into signing things over to him. How he enlisted the help of Meriwether Compeyson, and how he’s been blackmailing Arthur to serve his own means demanding money that he does not have.
He does not mention the beating. It is hard enough being so open, he cannot bear the thought of revealing the physical pain his adversary inflicted on him.
By the time he’s done, you haven’t said a word. However, you do pinch the bridge of your nose and hang your head. “Bloody hell, Arthur. What were you thinking?”
“Things are out of hand. It was not supposed to be this way.”
“That is an understatement. Why couldn’t you leave well enough alone?”
Arthur is hanging on by the thinnest of threads and his anger flares at your words. “I don’t need a lecture, I didn’t come here for that.”
“Then why did you come here?” you ask, your voice tinged with agitation. “Why did you come to me of all people? You could have spoken to Amelia, let her know what this Compeyson is planning. But you didn’t. You came, to me.”
Arthur puts his untouched tea down. Doubt seeps into him like the icy winds outside. “This was a mistake,” he says. “I’m sorry. This isn’t your problem. I should not have brought it to you. I thought—”
“What, Arthur? What did you think?”
Arthur can’t bring himself to look you in the eye. Doesn’t want to because he already knows what he’s going to see in them. “I’m sorry to have disturbed your evening. I will take my leave.”
He stands, fully intending to flee back into the cold streets, to flee your warmth, to flee the intensity of your gaze that always seems to burn into his very soul.
A hand closes around his wrist, stopping him. He turns to look at you. You’re standing now, so swift he didn’t even hear you move. “I want to help you, Arthur. I just need to know why.”
Arthur swallows thickly. It’s so difficult when you’re this close. When you’re touching. He pulls his arm from your grasp.
“Because despite the fact that you know my secret, I know yours too,” he says, trying to pull himself together.
You look amused. “Planning to blackmail me as well then?”
“If it comes to it. You’re a confirmed bachelor. You’ve never taken a wife. People talk.”
“I see, so you think planting rumors will do the trick? I’m a powerful man, Arthur. My connections run deep. Ever since my father died, my word is law with my shareholders and it will take a lot to convince them I am anything other than an upstanding member of society.”
Arthur’s temper flares once more, that fire of shame fueled by the inferiority he faces first with his sister, then with Compeyson, and now with you. “How upstanding would they think you to be if they hear you were caught on your knees for another man?” he asks, stepping forward in his anger.
You meet his outburst with a smirk, leaning in even closer, sharing his space. “And whose cock was I sucking, Arthur?”
And there it is. The truth. The dirty awful truth that sent Arthur into a spiral of self-loathing and immense shame. His cheeks flush red and he purses his lips, lacking a response for the mere fact that he has none.
You know you have him. He knows you have him.
Taking a moment, you step away and cross the room to your desk. It startles Arthur to realize you still work from this room, even though your father’s study is yours now by right. You open the drawer and pull out a thick stack of papers. Arthur is rooted to his spot, unable to do anything but watch you.
“Do you know what these are?” you ask, holding them up so he can see yet not turning to face him.
“No.”
“They are your letters. Every letter you ever sent me. Even the ones from childhood, when I was shipped off to boarding school and we were separated. Haven’t gotten any in a few years but they’re all here.”
Arthur’s heart skips a beat. His breath catches in his throat and he finds himself dizzy. “All of them?” he asks in a soft voice.
“All of them. Every single one.”
“Why did you keep them?”
That’s when you turn to look at him. “Why do you think?”
Arthur has no response. He wishes he did. He wishes he knew what to say. Deep down, he knows why he’s here. Why he came to you even as he tells you otherwise. You stand there staring, waiting for him to say what he cannot.
After a moment, you sigh and put the papers back. “How much do you owe Scrooge?”
“Fifty.”
You grab something from your desk before crossing the room toward Arthur. You hold out a bundle of money, far more than fifty. “Take it, it’s yours. Pay off the debt and keep your share of the brewery. It was foolish to put it up anyway.”
Arthur doesn’t allow himself to feel relief just yet. “What will this cost me?”
You sigh and grab his wrist again, this time it’s to put the money in his hand. “Despite what you may think, not everyone in this city is out to get you. Pay off your debt and go back home.”
“I don’t have a home to go back to,” Arthur says hotly. “He left everything, everything to Amelia. All I was left with was a lousy ten percent and told to figure it out. And it’s all because of you.”
You snort with amusement, sitting in your chair. “Tell yourself what you want, Arthur, but I never forced you to do anything you didn’t want. I didn’t force myself on you. And, as I recall, you kissed me first.”
That…is true. Arthur can deny it to himself all he’d like, but this is you he’s dealing with. You who knows him, the real him, better than anyone else. You who have always been there when he needed you.
And you’re here even now when Arthur abandoned your friendship.
“I’m not ashamed of who I am, Arthur,” you say. “Never have been. As furious as my father was, I didn’t backtrack. You may have been able to pin it all on me and that suited your father all well and good, but me? I told my father how I felt. And when he died, I was ready. Fully ready to be penniless. And yet…” You wave a hand to indicate the house around you.
“I’m glad to know your father loved you no matter what,” Arthur says with bitterness in his voice. “While I have been paying for who I am every single day of my life. Suffering, alone.”
“You don’t have to be alone!” you snap, getting to your feet again. “For god’s sake, Arthur! I’m here! I’ve always been here! You were the one who ran away and you were the one who ended our friendship. And I’m sorry that your father couldn’t accept you. But I will not apologize for mine.”
Tears threaten to fall. No matter what he does, Arthur can’t stop them. He turns away so you won’t see. You don’t let him. You slip your hand into his curls and pull him against your chest in a hug.
Despite himself, Arthur melts into the embrace. It’s been long, far too long. He’s forgotten how this feels, how wonderful it is to have your solid frame against his, to feel your hand in his hair and your arm around his waist. He cries, lets the tears go as strangled sobs break through his pursed lips. He does not know how long he stands there crying into your shoulder. But it’s long enough for the tears to eventually fade. He’s too tired, too drained to shed anymore.
Arthur closes his eyes and savors the moment. He doesn’t try to pull away or push you because he can’t bring himself to do either.
Your heat and scent envelop him, triggering memories of years ago when the playful innocence of youth turned into something else, something more.
He was the one to kiss you first, a chaste peck on the cheek in the heat of the moment. Then you looked at him and the next thing he knew, he was covering your mouth with his, yanking you in close and throwing caution into the wind. It never occurred to him in the moment that it was meant to be wrong, that he should not have those feelings. How could it be when you kissed him back with equal passion?
No kiss with anyone else matched it before or has matched it since.
You draw back from the hug, wiping the tears from his cheeks before pushing his curls back from his face. You’re staring at his lips and he aches to close the distance, to give in to the desires he buried deep down long ago.
But he can’t.
He breaks the embrace, clearing his throat and fidgeting with the money still in his hands. “Thank you,” he says. “I’ll repay you as soon as I am able.”
“You don’t have to.” You shove your hands into your pockets. “You haven’t touched your food.”
“It is late. I should leave. I’ve taken enough of your time as is.”
“If you insist. I’ll show you to the door.”
In silence, you walk back down the hall. Hearing your footsteps, the maid rushes ahead to gather Arthur’s things.
“Thank you, Marina. I will see Arthur out myself. You may retire for the evening,” you tell her.
She nods and leaves. You take Arthur’s coat and hold it out for him to easily slip on. When he does, it puts pressure on his cuts and he lets out an involuntary hiss. He can sense your concern but ignores it. While he puts on his hat, you open the front door to reveal the beginnings of a snowstorm. Arthur busies himself with the gloves in his pocket, trying to appear as though he’s putting them on when really he’s stalling. He can’t bring himself to leave yet, doesn’t want to leave your warmth so quickly.
“You be careful out there,” you say, motioning to the weather. “Lord knows we’re due for another blizzard. Are you sure you’re okay to walk? What about this Compeyson fellow?”
“I am sure he’s thoroughly distracted at the moment. I will be just fine.” He hopes.
You study Arthur for a moment. “Do you remember when we were young and would sneak out of the house to avoid our studies?” you ask with a smile.
Arthur smiles back, recalling the memories with fondness. “We’d use the old servant’s entrance in the gardens. Until your father boarded it up.”
“There are many advantages of being master of the house now,” you say, leaning on the door. “For one thing, I can undo things my father did. And, since none of the servants who serve me ever served my father, they are completely oblivious to such facts.”
Arthur’s heart skips a beat. Your tone is casual, however, your words are anything but.
“If someone knew where to look, should they be inclined, they’d be able to sneak in without anyone being the wiser. Food for thought, Arthur. Have a good night.”
He's left on the doorstep without another word.
He has the money, can repay Scrooge, and figure out everything with Compeyson in the morning. Maybe with what’s leftover he can buy himself a few days reprieve from the scoundrel.
Arthur slowly exhales and turns to face the cold winter’s night once more. He gets to the front gate, opens it. And yet, he can’t help but look back at the house, the place where he discovered himself in ways he never imagined. The heat of your hug is lingering and before he realizes what he’s doing, Arthur closes the gate once more.
He leaves tracks in the freshly fallen snow as he follows the all-too-familiar path around back to the gardens. Your thoughts on the weather were accurate. Arthur is in the midst of a full blizzard now and he knows his footprints will be gone in moments.
Where the old entrance once stood is now a wall of ivy, dead and snow-covered. Arthur pushes it aside, his eyes falling on the simple wooden door. He tries the handle and it yields to him.
Arthur pauses, weighing the consequences of what he’s about to do before he steps through.
The hall is dark and cold. He listens for the sounds of movement but finds none. Arthur knocks the snow from his boots before ascending the old wooden staircase. It doesn’t creak as he’d expect it to, like it used to. The boards must have recently been nailed down to prevent such noise.
A single door stands at the top of the stairs and Arthur walks through it. There is resistance at first, which he eventually realizes is because the door is hidden behind a thick tapestry. He finds himself in the familiar hallway that hasn’t changed since his last visit. He doubts it has changed much in generations.
At first, he makes for your room until he remembers you’re not there. Why would you be? You’re the master of the house.
Up the main staircase, quiet as he can be, Arthur ascends to the top floor where the master’s suite is. Like the rest of the house, its dark say for the light on under the door. His heart is racing, has been since you hugged him and now it’s threatening to escape his chest. Anticipation and apprehension are fighting for dominance.
Arthur takes a moment, collects himself, then turns the handle. It is not locked.
This is a room he’s never been in before. He steps into an entrance chamber, draped in tapestries and fine art. The first thing he notices are the shoes you were wearing sitting by the door. Taking your lead, Arthur removes his wet boots. He leans his walking stick against the wall. His hat, gloves, and coat find purchase on the floor as he sheds his outer layer before making for the main bedchamber.
Your back is to him this time. Your bare back.
You’re standing in front of the fireplace, your hand resting on the mantle. All you are wearing are your trousers. Arthur studies you, allows himself to admire and appreciate the image before him. You’re no longer the young man he used to know so well. Then again, neither is he.
When he starts to walk toward you, you turn to look at him.
Your steps match his and the two of you meet in the middle of the room in a desperate kiss.
Your hands cradle his face, your mouth hungrily seeking his. And Arthur lets you, wants you to, can’t help but finally give in to what his body has been craving ever since you were caught that fateful day.
He wraps an arm around your waist and clutches you close. His hand comes up to lay over yours, making sure you don’t stop cradling his face because now that you’re touching him, he needs more.
Arthur’s legs hitting the bed takes him by surprise. He didn’t even feel you push him. Or did he pull you? It may have been a combination.
Your hands reach for his trousers.
He can’t help but moan, mouth still furiously attacking yours in a frenzy of teeth and tongues. His hands freely roam your back, marveling at the soft skin, wishing he hadn’t run away. How could he think he’d be able to live without you? Without the way your mouth nipped at his, or how your quick hands open his trousers with deft fingers.
You draw back, eyes hooded and pupils blown wide with desire. “Is this what you want, Arthur?” you ask in a low voice, your nose brushing his. “Once this happens, truly happens, you can’t take it back.”
“I don’t want to take it back.”
“Are you sure? There will be no hard feelings if you do.”
Arthur cups the back of your neck and tugs you down into a kiss. He wants this. He wants you. Has wanted you for as long as he can remember. There’s been a dark hole in his heart the last few years, ever since he pushed you away and he doesn’t want it anymore.
It’s your turn to moan, your turn to melt against him.
The solid weight of you is thrilling. Arthur can’t stop touching you, his hands exploring your chest while your mouths hungrily seek each other’s.
His trousers are open and now that you have his permission, you slip your hand into them, wrapping around his cock.
Arthur moans, a deep satisfied sound that resonates through his whole body. It’s been too long since you’ve touched him, far too long. His body comes alive, back arching in an attempt to bring himself as close to you as possible. Your free hand tugs down the collar of his shirt, exposing his smooth pale neck to your eager lips.
How can this be wrong? How can the world tell him that your love isn’t real? It’s real to him. You’re more real than anything Arthur has ever known. Your hand starts to pump his cock with sure strokes. You remember what he likes, remember how to squeeze and rub just the right way, the way that makes Arthur a trembling needy mess.
He's wearing far too many layers.
You must have the same thought because you yank his shirt free from his open trousers and slide your hands under the thick material. Arthur suddenly remembers the marks on his back a second too late. Your hand finds one and he yanks away with a hiss of pain.
Your eyes are wide. “Arthur,” you say in a low, careful voice. “What happened?”
The shame is back but for an entirely different reason. Carefully, Arthur pulls his shirt off, eyes trained on the ground and rimmed with unshed tears. He closes them when you gently turn him around.
He hears the sharp inhale when you lay your eyes on the cuts. The next thing he knows, he’s roughly turned back to face you. “Who did this to you?! Was it him? Was it Compeyson?”
Swallowing thickly, Arthur nods. You take his face in your hands, tilt it up so he’s looking at you. Arthur lays his hands around your wrists when he meets your eye.
“He will pay for this,” you say, your tone one he is unfamiliar with but sends a shudder down his spine. “He will never lay a hand on you again so long as I am still breathing. Did he hurt you elsewhere?”
Arthur shakes his head. “No, I swear it.”
“Does it hurt much?”
“I’m far too distracted to feel it at the moment.”
Bare chest to bare chest, Arthur pulls you into another kiss. Teeth nip at your bottom lip before his tongue fills your mouth. He sits on the bed, bringing you with him as he lays down. Your sheets are soft and cool to the touch, easing the aches of his sore back.
With a moan of pleasure, you return the kiss. Arthur takes your hand and slides it into his trousers. You start to stroke him again and heat starts to lick through his belly, hotter than the best drink money can buy. The constriction of his trousers makes it difficult for you to stroke him properly. He hastily shoves them down his hips, freeing himself in the process.
Your lips leave his as you make a trail down his chest. You mark red spots upon pale skin as you do, claiming Arthur as yours. Because he is yours. He’s always been yours. He may have denied it but he’s never forgotten it.
You place an open-mouthed kiss on Arthur’s hip bone. With both hands, you peel the trousers off, sliding into the floor as you do.
“Now, what was that you said about being on my knees for another man?” you tease.
Arthur pushes himself onto his elbows, a stray curl falling into his eyes. He’s too focused on you to notice. “I don’t remember,” he says with a small grin. “It was a long time ago. I must have forgotten.”
“Allow me to refresh your memory.”
You drag your tongue along his weeping length and Arthur’s eyes flutter, threatening to close. He forces them open, forces him to watch you take his swollen tip between your lips. The sudden wet heat is overwhelming and Arthur’s head falls back with a moan.
You’ve always had a wicked tongue. When you were lads, your sharp words and quick wit constantly caused trouble. It wasn’t until you both were older that Arthur fully appreciated it.
Now he appreciates it more than ever.
Falling onto his back, Arthur’s eyes flutter closed and he surrenders to the sensation. Feeling your mouth slide down his cock, deliberately slow, his breathing speeds up. By the time you have all of him, he’s audibly panting. You draw back, almost letting him fall completely out of your mouth before taking him again.
You repeat the motion, one hand holding him at the base. Working him in and out of your mouth, you start a steady rhythm, your hand soon following the same path. Arthur is beside himself, gasping and squirming in the bed, unable to do anything but lay there and feel. When he dares to look down at you, that unbelievable heat courses through his veins at the visual of your lips stretched wide around his length.
It's too good. It’s too much. It’s been far too long and Arthur is not going to last. Already he senses the overstimulation, feels how his hips are trying to meet your mouth, but are unable with you pinning him in place.
He says your name, whispers it before reaching down to grip your head.
To his dismay and relief, you stop, letting him slide out completely before dropping harsh kisses to his thighs.
You smirk up at him. “I’ve forgotten how beautiful you look like this.”
Arthur’s forehead is dotted with sweat already and he needs to run his hand through his hair to push the curls away. “Come here,” he pants, forcing himself to sit up.
You stand, your hands busying with the strings holding your trousers closed. Arthur reaches out and makes quick work of them, desperate to see you. To feel you. His mouth waters and when your trousers fall to pool around your ankles, Arthur immediately slides your cock between his lips.
“Fucking hell,” you swear, digging your fingers into his curly locks. “Always so…ambitious.”
Arthur’s eyes flutter closed as he bobs his head up and down, taking more and more of you each time he does. He’s out of practice, sloppy in his over-eagerness yet determined to make it as good for you as it was for him.
You’re hard against his tongue. He can feel the way you twitch, taste the beads of precum before they slide down his throat. He’s a man on a mission, a man possessed by lust. And by you.
Lord help him, he wants to be possessed by you.
When he draws back, he lets you slip out of his mouth, his chin pressed into your stomach as he looks up at you.
Your thumb traces his full bottom lip and he sucks it for a moment before saying in a breathless voice, “Take me.”
With a guttural moan, you bend down to kiss him, sharing his taste while he shares yours. Both of you move at the same time. Arthur crawls backward up the bed while you step out of your trousers and join him, laying your body over his.
He can feel your cock along his. And then you shift, and you’re ever so slightly grinding against his arse and he doesn’t know how he’s going to be able to handle more. If he even can handle more.
For everything that’s been familiar, this would be new. You two never got this far before. Though judging by the way you move, how you reach for your nightstand to withdraw a small bottle, Arthur suspects it may not be as new for you as it is for him.
There’s a moment, a twinge of jealousy he cannot contain. He pushes it away. Won’t let it mar this perfect moment. After all, he was the one to walk away. He cannot fault you for finding comfort in someone else.
When you draw back, your eyes are shining with love, and Arthur can’t help but smile, his hand stroking your cheek.
One more kiss is placed on Arthur’s lips before you sit back on your heels. “Spread your legs, love,” you tell him, your voice rough with desire.
Arthur does it instantly, letting you see all of him. You groan, eyes taking him in before meeting his.
“Do you trust me?”
“With my life. And my heart.”
The bottle is opened and you pour some of the contents into your hand before placing the glass vial back on the nightstand. Arthur finds his mouth occupied once more with yours as you kiss him. He feels your hand slip between his legs and a warm, wet substance is gently rubbed across his tight pucker.
Arthur freezes for a moment, but your kisses relax him. You make slow, gentle circles with the tip of your finger, spreading the lubricant before pressing ever so slightly against the tight ring of muscle. Arthur’s breathing hitches at the first bit of resistance. However, when he calms again, your finger presses harder until it begins to slide in.
After that, Arthur is unable to stay still. His mouth attacks yours, desire building as you carefully work him loose, first with one finger. His hips move on their own, rising and falling, trying to assist you while also seeking relief. Another finger is added once Arthur is positively grinding against your hand. It’s not enough. He can’t stand to wait any longer.
Drawing back from the kiss he looks up at you with those gorgeous brown eyes. “I need more.”
“I’m working on it. So bloody impatient.”
Arthur kisses you harshly, his teeth briefly tugging on your bottom lip when he pulls away. “Now!”
“Fucking hell I missed you.”
You sit back once more to grab the bottle. Arthur takes it from you, pouring the substance into his hand this time before working it up and down your cock. Your hardness is exhilarating. Just the thought that you’ll be inside him soon is enough to make his own cock weep again.
You grab Arthur’s legs and when he sits back, you push them up against his chest, hands gliding down his thighs. Arthur watches you line yourself up, the head of your cock glistening in the firelight.
Then, you carefully press into him.
Arthur doesn’t realize he’s holding his breath until you stroke his hair back from his face. “Just relax, love. Breathe and relax “
Following your instructions, Arthur lets out a shaky breath which turns into a moan as he feels you slide deeper into his body. He has to open his eyes, has to watch your face come closer as you push yourself into his ready and willing body.
He feels the brush of rough hair against his arse and with a loud gasp he realizes you’re now inside him. He’s full of you, finally yours after all these years. What a waste. He could have had you ages ago. Your jaw is clenched and he realizes how much restraint it must be taking for you not to move, to wait until he's accustomed to you.
Arthur is done waiting.
Wrapping his legs around you, he grabs your face and yanks you into a kiss. Your hips draw back slowly before thrusting into his heat and Arthur sees stars.
You take him, first with gentle thrusts but quickly turning into something else. Something more carnal and urgent. He knows you, knows you have fantasied about this as much as he has. Did you think of him? When you were with another or alone with your own hand, was Arthur’s face the one you pictured?
He doesn’t have to ask to know the answer.
Arthur relishes the fullness, groans and calls out your name, forgetting and not caring who may hear. Because there’s no one around to hear. No one to catch you or interrupt. The servants are floors away, blissfully unaware that their master is buggering Arthur Havisham into his mattress.
The secret, forbidden nature of your coupling makes Arthur’s heart race even more. How can love be forbidden? If there is a God, why would He put you in Arthur’s life if the two of you were meant to be apart?
Something inside Arthur snaps and he knows he will never be able to bury these feelings again. He does not want to. He is going to do everything he can to be the man you deserve, the man you know he can be. And at night, when the two of you are alone and away from prying eyes, he’ll have you and you’ll have him.
The thought of it turns him on, makes him want you to take him as hard as you can, make him see stars for hours.
Though, he doesn’t think either of you will last that long.
He can tell when you’re close, remembers the signs well enough though he’s never experienced them from this angle before.
“Arthur,” you pant against his lips. “Arthur, love, I cannot hold back much longer.”
“Come for me,” he begs, blunt nails digging into your sweaty shoulder blades. “I need to feel it this time.”
A moment later, you do. You come inside him, your hand slipping between your bodies to wrap around his hot length. It only takes a jerk or two for Arthur to come as well, coating both your torsos in pearly strips of white. He keeps coming, more than he’s ever had before, vaguely aware it’s been a long time. Longer than he cares to admit.
Your thrusts become sloppy and then slow until you eventually stop.
Arthur’s body is humming and he can’t help the noise of disappointment when you slip out of him and collapse onto your back by his side.
Trying to catch your breath, you lay next to each other, chests heaving. Arthur feels wonderful and uncomfortable at the same time. His wounds are starting to ache and his cooling release is becoming sticky.
You give him a quick kiss. “Wait here, love.”
Arthur smiles at the term of endearment, liking it more and more each time you say it. He watches you cross the room naked to a basin in the corner, where you dip a cloth in water. You bring it back to bed and gently clean him off, first his stomach then between his legs, placing feather-light kisses wherever you can.
Arthur chuckles as you do. “That tickles.”
“Stop being so tasty then.”
You draw back and clean yourself, before tossing the rag aside and climbing back into bed.
Arthur turns to his side so you’re facing each other, his legs twining with yours. He’s more comfortable than he’s ever been in his life. Though sleep threatens to take him, he fights it, wanting to remain awake in your embrace for as long as possible.
“You’ll stay here tonight,” you say, stroking his cheek. “Right here with me. In the morning I’ll mess up the guest room bed and tell the maids you came back when the storm was too dangerous.”
“Thank you.”
“Think nothing of it.” You kiss him tenderly and he smiles, kissing you back. “As for this Mr. Compeyson, don’t you worry about him.”
“Why? What are you going to do?”
“I’m not going to do anything. See, unlike him, I don’t have to resort to violence to get what I want, not that I would not love beating the man within an inch of his life. When you’re rich, you can pay people to do that for you. I daresay, if he’s not careful, he may find himself the victim of an unfortunate accident. This city is a dangerous place after all.”
Arthur feels relief. Still smiling, he runs his fingers up and down your arm that’s draped over his waist. “Would be a shame if he met a most unfortunate end.”
“Tragic. Absolutely tragic. There’s only one thing you need to do for me.”
“Name it.”
“Make amends with your sister.” As he narrows his eyes you place a finger on his lips. “Hush, don’t say anything, just listen. First off, this isn’t her fault. Second, patience is a virtue, Mr. Havisham. The best way to get what you want isn’t to stomp and yell. It’s to play along, bide your time.”
Arthur raises his eyebrow, kissing your finger before kissing your palm and then your wrist. “I know that tone,” he says, dark eyes flickering up to meet yours. “You have an idea.”
“To join our family fortunes and became the most powerful families in London? To plot and scheme for a way to keep you by my side for the rest of our lives? How positively absurd.”
Grinning now, Arthur pushes you onto your back, draping his body over yours. “I think we can come to some sort of arrangement.”
“I believe we already have, my love.”

Warnings!! (V/n= Villain name) (TW blood, fighting, slight lime,cussing.)
3rd pov
M/n was a famous villain many wanted to be like the V/N. He was one of the best villains of all time, he's famous for his tricks, knowing what the heroes are planning next he's a genius and the last one fact of his is that he's just your regular guy walking down the street. No one knows what he looks like and that is the scary part; his victims wouldn't even know that there is a monster that is ready to make their life miserable.
Soon enough Joker found out about the man that the so-called "best Villain" at first he was a bit pissed off at the fact that someone may take his throne. But soon enough he was a bit interested in you.
Jokers Pov
"V/n"...V/n..."V/n" I desire to see the one that everyone always talks so highly about. I had sent my goons to look for the villain and capture him and take him to me weeks ago.
7 hours later 3rd Pov
"We found him Mr J " one of the goons spoke to the joker with a bit of pride in his voice. Joker turned around fast and speed walked to the knocked out v/n. "Leave" Joker spoke in a harsh and dark tone. All of his goons left, Joker lifted up v/n and sat him one a chair and tied him up. Joker just stared at his chubby/athletic/thin/average build. V/n name groaned at the intense pain in his head and lifted his head up to meet the joker gaze. V/n flinched a little at the intense eye contact made him a bit uncomfortable.
"Hello Mr V/n I think you already know me..." Joker spoke with an unsettling tone. V/n name just responded with a bored and monotone voice "Who the hell are you?." Joker punched V/n in the chest with so much force "YOU KNOW WHO I AM!!" Joker yelled "I'M THE KING OF GOTHAM!" V/n just responds with  "Could you keep it down? I have this major headache."
That just made the Joker more ticked off ,so he snatched the v/n helmet/mask/hood off. His eyes widen he never thought this scumbag of a villain would be so handsome!? Joker blushed a little staring at v/n handsome features. V/n scoffed and said "Would you stop staring weirdo... " What's your name?" joker asked V/n looked a bit taken back at the question but respond with a bit of sass "Why should I tell you fucking cockroach looking head ass?" Joker punched V/n again in the nose this time with enough force to draw blood. In one swift motion he kissed v/n force his tongue into v/n mouth.
V/n bit the Jokers lip and tongue but the joker just moaned and for a quick sec "Do it again v/n..~" the joker whispered then went back to kissing v/n sloppily. "Mr J" Joker pulled away and stood up straight and faced the idiot who needed him. "Yes," he said with a mad tone. "We're done with the plan sir and we wanted to see if you wanted to try it out sir!" "Alright I'll be out in a second." The goon walked out of the room and closed the door".
"Well our time had been cut short-" "My name is y/n l/n" joker gave y/n a huge smile and whispered to him in his ear "We will continue this later my y/n" Joker gave y/n a soft kiss on the cheek and walked out of the room. Leaving a flustered and kinda in pain y/n all alone with his thoughts.

Movie Dates
Hournite fluff
~.~
Beth opened the day with a bright smile for her favourite human and a pressing question. “What are your plans for tomorrow?”
Rick bundled his jacket in half and then tossed it into his rusty locker. With his bag slung over his shoulder, his brows knitted together, mildly interested once he turned towards her. “Good morning.”
“Hi!” Beth breathed out. They began their walk to the 3rd floor for their homeroom together, Beth hurried to keep up with Rick’s pace. Eventually he noticed he was going too fast for her and slowed his strides.  “I have been up all night--”
“I can tell,” Rick replied, but he was grinning.
“And did you know that they made JSA blockbuster movies in the late 80s? I found them locked and archived in the depths of Dr. McNider’s online digital database. Apparently, films two and three were so eerily similar to the actual life situations of the JSA members, that they had to axe the entire prequel series pre-post production. It never saw the light of day.”
Rick blinked at her. “There’s an unreleased movie out there about my dad?” Beth watched his face contort as he did the mental math. “That would make him older than...”
“He should be?” Beth adjusted her glasses. “Yeah. Chuck himself is in his 90s, too, remember. I haven’t quite cracked the code yet about the age mystery.”
“Why don’t we just ask Pat?”
“Rick!” Beth sucked in a breath. Rick glanced down at her, amused. “We can’t just ask a man how old he is!”
“Sure we can.”
“What if the answer is really really old?”
“Then we ask more questions.” He wrinkled his nose at her scoffing reaction. “Okay, back to my dad as a character in this movie...”
“Apparently Sylvester Stallone plays him.”  “Who?”
Beth shrugs. “Some big movie star from that time.”
“What does Courtney think about the movie?” Rick asked.
“I didn’t tell anyone else yet,” she admitted. “I wanted to tell you. So...” she said again, drawing out the syllable as they reached their respective desks at the classroom. “What are your plans?”
“Your plans are my plans. We’re watching that movie.”
~.~
They spent a half hour figuring out how to mirror-cast the footage from Beth’s green-tinted projector via her goggles to her television. By the time the movie had actually began, they were both on the couch of her room. A bowl of popcorn sat untouched on the floor. Rick’s legs were stretched out along the three cushions, Beth wedged in the corner of the couch with the recliner open.
Ten minutes into the movie, they’re failing miserably at not laughing at the Hollywood JSA costumes.
“Why is Hourman’s cape orange?”
“Why is Sylvester playing himself!?”
Rick shoved a handful of popcorn into his mouth, his eyes glued to the screen. “I thought this was supposed to be accurate.”
“I still don’t understand why Hootie is a therapy dog.”
“I heard owls are expensive to have on set.”
“How do you know that?”
Rick glanced at her when she raised her brows. He went red behind the ears. “I might have come across it online?”
“Why were you...” Beth trailed off and sat up in the couch with a goofy grin spreading across her face. “Rick Tyler, were you looking up owl-maintenance tips for me?”
“I plead the fifth.”
She scooted closer to him. “That’s really sweet.”
“Uh, yeah, well. Whatever. Dr. McNider brought Hootie back to Indiana.”
Beth turned with a groan at the very cheesy sudden death of The Flash. They had his helmet struck by lightning, but the way the actor -- Tom Cruise -- who played Jay Garrick flopped to the ground like a fish after the weak VXF forced them to pause the movie, it was so bad. Beth’s face somehow landed in the crook of Rick’s shoulder, unable to stop giggling.
“I don’t think they pulled it because it was accurate,” said Rick.
“They pulled it because it was embarrassing.”
“Yeah.”
“Do you still want to watch?” Beth asked.
“If you do.”
“Yes, let’s finish them.”
Rick’s arm, lazily hanging atop of the couch, slowly lowered around her. It took a minute for Beth to relax, resting comfortably against his side. And she was happy when Rick left his arm there for the next half hour. She was happy that Rick seemed happy too.
The front door jimmied open well into the third movie and Beth’s mom walked into the house. Still in her lab coat, she ran her hand through her weave with a long sigh, stopping short at Rick and Beth causally nestled into each other.
“Hi sweetie. Oh, hi Rick.”
Beth fought the urge to pull away from him. They most likely looked quite compromising—Her head on his shoulder, him stroking his thumb along her side. Frankly, she knew they looked like the couple that Beth had sworn up and down twenty times just the night before that they weren’t.
Rick shuffled, making a move to shift away from her, but Beth dropped a hand on his knee. “Don’t,” she whispered. Rick met her eyes, somewhat surprised. But her favourite smile of his slowly crept up his face.
“What are you two watching?” Dr. Chapel squinted at the television screen. “Lord, that looks cheesy.”
“They’re JSA movies,” Beth piped up, snuggling into Rick’s side further. “We made it a movie date.”
Rick looked at her and bit his lip, raising a silent eyebrow. “Really?” he asked quietly when her mother ambled upstairs to her room.
Beth shot him a tentative smile back. “I think so.”
They let another ten minutes of movie go by. Wildcat winked at the camera at least half a dozen times. Beth let her head slip, sliding almost horizontally across the couch, half in Rick’s lap. She the easy rise and fall of his breathing lull her into an almost drowsy sleep. Every time she sleepily glanced up at Rick, he was already looking back with a softness that filled her chest with butterflies.
“Does that mean we’re dating now?” Rick asked. He paused. “Because I really want to date you.”
“So we can watch more ridiculous movies? I’m sorry that they’re so bad.”
“I don’t care,” Rick said with a smile. “Beth, I’d do anything with you.”
Beth reached up to cup his cheek. Her own cheeks hurt from the grin splitting her face.
“Yeah, we’re dating,” she whispered as the credits rolled. “A part of me thinks we already were.”

Not Enough
has anyone else just wanted Danny to go completely fucking feral at Dash? anyone?
yeah me too
this is some truly self-indulgent shit y'all
"Hey Fenton!"
Danny slammed his locker shut, sighing as Dash clapped him roughly on the shoulder.
"I'm throwin' a huge ass Halloween party this weekend, ghosts are all about Halloween right? You should totally come!"
It wasn't the first party Danny had been invited to since being outed as Phantom, but somehow Dash didn't seem to get the hint that he wasn't even remotely interested.
"No." Danny snapped, he threw his bag over his shoulder and turned his back on Dash, walking away without another word.
"What's your problem?"
Danny stopped, turning back around with a face of utter disdain.
"Excuse me?"
"I've been trying to be nice, but all you do is just brush me off! Like you can't even pretend to be busy or something?"
Danny stared, mouth halfway open as he tried to find the words to respond.
"Are you actually serious?" he finally choked out, almost too bewildered to be angry.
Almost.
"You're not still mad about all that stuff from before right?" Dash asked. "Like, I don't even do that shit anymore, it's over."
"Is it?" Danny's eyes flashed brightly and Dash took a half step back as the air went cold. "Because I'm pretty sure it was just yesterday that I pulled Mikey out of his locker."
"Well, yeah but that was Mikey." Dash laughed. "C'mon man, I wouldn't do that to you. We're totally cool now, so why you gotta keep blowing me off? You talk to Kwan like it's not big deal, and he used to wail on you all the time!"
Danny took a deep, slow breath, then another.
"Have you considered that maybe it's because I don't like you?" Danny said through gritted teeth.
Dash huffed, shoving his hands into his pockets and staring at the ground.
"Look, I get it, I was a jerk, but it's over! I'm actually trying to be nice, now you're the one being an asshole."
Danny looked as though he'd been slapped.
"You're such a fucking idiot Dash." Said Danny, his voice trembling with barely restrained rage. "You can't just treat someone like shit every single day for two years and then expect them to get over it because you invited them to a few parties."
"Then how come Kwan gets to hang out with you?" Dash could feel his face heating up. "You're just gonna let him off the hook? That's not fair!"
"HE APOLOGISED!"
In one thunderous moment, every locker in the hallway slammed open, sending papers and books flying across the floor. The few students still packing up their things got the fuck out of dodge, whether this was a ghost thing or a Fenton thing (was there even a difference at this point?) they wanted no part of it.
Dash couldn't move, his feet felt heavy, he wasn't entirely sure if Danny had done something to him with his ghost powers, or if he was just afraid.
Because he was certainly afraid.
Even after everyone found out, Danny still didn't use his powers at school unless it was a ghost emergency. He didn't use them for pranks, didn't use them to get even, didn't even use them to show off.
But he was sure as hell using them now, and Dash suddenly realised why he was always holding himself back.
He was terrifying.
Danny took a few steps forward, stopping barely an arm's length away from where Dash was rooted to the spot, trembling.
"Kwan apologised to me." He said, quietly this time. "He apologised to my friends, he even apologised to some other kids, and when I told him that I wasn't ready to forgive him, he accepted that and left me alone until I was ready to talk to him again."
Dash wanted to speak, but he couldn't seem to make his brain form the words he needed, it was too busy buzzing with danger run danger get out run run RUN.
"You made every single day of my life miserable for two whole fucking years, and that isn't even counting the bullshit you pulled in middle school. How do you feel right now Dash? Does it scare you to be around me? Does it scare you to be at the mercy of someone that you know damn well can hurt you?" Danny leant in, grabbing a fistful of letterman jacket. "I hope it does, because now maybe you'll have an idea what it was like for me going to school every fucking day knowing that you would be there, ready and waiting to hurt me. Every single FUCKING day."
Dash found himself being thrown backwards, his feet finally able to move again as he caught himself.
"I'm s-sor-sorry." he mumbled, his lips felt numb and tingly and his head swam with panic as he struggled to get the words out. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry."
"Are you?" Danny's voice cracked, his face wasn't twisted in rage anymore, his eyes were blue once again, and shining with tears. "Are you really sorry for hurting me? Or are you just sorry that the guy you were beating the shit out of turned out to be Phantom?"
"I didn't... I didn't know." Dash gasped out, he could barely hear his own words, all he could hear was his own heart beating loudly in his ears as he struggled to draw in breath. "I didn't know it was like that, I just thought-"
Thought what? What had he thought? That he wasn't really hurting anyone? That it wasn't that big a deal?
No, he hadn't thought that, because he hadn't thought at all.
"And you're gonna stand here and tell me I'm an asshole." Danny was almost sobbing as he raggedly spat out each word. "Because I won't forgive you for something you never even apologised for. This is the first time you even acknowledged that you were an absolute jerk to me, and you followed it up by demanding that I just get over it."
Dash stared down at the floor, it sounded terrible when Danny put it like that.
"I wasn't... demanding anything." he said, he was embarrassed by how whiny he sounded. "I was just trying to make it up to you, I was trying, I just thought... it's not fair that I can't have second chance. I was trying so hard and all I wanted was a second chance-"
"I DON'T CARE." Danny's eyes were screwed up tight, but it didn't stop the tears of fury from pouring down his cheeks, his voice so shredded with pain it was barely recognisable. "I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU. I DON'T CARE ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT. I DON'T OWE YOU A SECOND CHANCE. I DON'T OWE YOU ANYTHING. YOU FUCKED ME UP AND YOU. CAN'T. FIX IT."
Dash didn't know what to do. Danny was openly sobbing, his breaths came out in grunts as he couldn't hold the rage and misery back.
He was still standing within arm's reach, Dash cautiously put out a hand, to comfort him? He wasn't sure, but he barely brushed Danny's shoulder before Dash found himself spinning violently and his cheekbone exploded with sudden pain as he hit the floor. Cold hands drew away from him roughly.
"DON'T TOUCH ME." Danny screamed. "DON'T YOU EVER FUCKING TOUCH ME EVER AGAIN."
Dash watched as Danny grabbed his backpack and his footsteps disappeared down the hall.
It was over, just like that it was over.
Dash sat up and touched his face, he wasn't bleeding but he knew it would bruise pretty bad. It hurt, he would be squinting through one eye for a few days.
Danny could have done this to him at any time, he could have done it to him every day if he wanted, and maybe he would, now that he'd done it once.
The thought made Dash feel cold as dread pooled in his stomach.
The next day Dash told people he'd gotten his black eye from playing football, his team knew it wasn't true, but they didn't ask. He kept his eye out for Danny, wondering if he would pop up invisibly and knock him off his feet, or drag him through the floor, or hit him when nobody was looking.
He clung to Kwan's side all day, afraid to be alone.
Phantom could be anywhere, he could get him anywhere, if he wanted to hurt Dash nobody would be able to stop him.
Nobody had been able to stop Dash, and he didn't even have superpowers.
But in the end, nothing happened.
Dash went through the day untouched. Danny didn't even look his way. Not once. He just acted like yesterday never happened.
But it did happen, Dash still had the bruise on his cheek, and the terror set deep in his bones.
In the following days, weeks, months, Danny still never touched him, never looked at him, never talked to him. Dash realised that Danny probably wasn't going to do anything else after all, that maybe he hadn't even meant to hurt him in the first place.
He was a hero after all, he protected people, even people he didn't like. The only time he had ever come into contact with Dash again was to haul him out of the way of a ghost, and he did so with the same care as he would with anyone else.
Danny wasn't like him, he didn't gloat about hurting him, he didn't revel in the fact that Dash was scared of him. He just went about his day, acting for all the world like Dash didn't even exist.
Dash never gave him a true apology, it was clear Danny didn't want one, it was far too late for that.
It left Dash with a sick feeling of unfulfillment. He understood now what Danny had been going through, the pain, the terror, he wanted Danny to know that he was truly sorry, that he really had changed this time.
But he couldn't, because forcing an unwanted apology on him would just make Dash the asshole all over again, he was trying to steal a forgiveness that he could never have.
So he had to find his closure somewhere else.
He stopped picking on Mikey, and Nathan, and all of the other nerds he frequently hassled. He even tried apologising to them, some forgave him, others didn't, and he had to be okay with that. He struggled not to lash out, it still felt unfair, the world had always told him that you were supposed to forgive people when they apologised. It always happened that way on tv, in the cartoons he grew up watching. The mean kid would apologise, the other kids would forgive him, and they would all become friends.
He was realising that the real world was a whole lot more complicated than that, he didn't earn forgiveness just because apologising was hard, he was learning fast that he didn't earn any brownie points for taking responsibility for his actions. He was just doing what any decent person should.
It took him a while to come to terms with that, to stop being angry at people for not letting him make it up to them. For not letting him prove that he had changed.
All it took was to occasionally pass by Danny in the hallways for him to cool his jets and think more clearly. To remind him that he was the bad guy, he was the one who hurt people, that his victims did not owe him anything.
In his last year of school, he had found himself watching the juniors below him falling into the same behaviours, the same struggle for power and control. Pushing other kids around without so much as sparing a thought to how it made them feel.
After a lengthy chat with Mr Lancer, Dash was given permission to pull out younger students from detention one day a week. He would talk to them, ask about their lives, ask about their feelings. He would ask why they lashed out, why they thought it was okay to treat people that way. Most of them didn't have an answer, or simply refused to give one, but he would push, he wouldn't let them hide in ignorance like he did.
Some of them did feel guilt for the way they treated people, and they only needed someone they could talk to who could understand what they were going through, so they wouldn't take it out on whoever was around at the time.
Others would take more effort, they need a far stronger push in the right direction, they were defensive and combative, selfish and unapologetic.
Dash had been one of those kids, he knew they would be hard work, but he did his best. He couldn't help all of them, some were simply unwilling to change.
So he contacted the school-board, he pushed for better protection for students, more programs to help troubled kids, he volunteered to keep running his own counselling groups even after he graduated.
It still never felt like enough.
After graduation he turned down his favoured college to attend one closer to home so he could continue his volunteer work. He joined petitions and rallies for change across entire school districts, he spoke at other schools' anti-bullying campaigns. He'd attended enough of them in his own childhood that he knew they did next to nothing, but it gave him the opportunity to reach out to kids for one on one support.
He found more volunteers for his counselling groups, he helped people start them up in other local schools. It was a lot of work, especially when he was also juggling his college studies. He was taking a major in psychology, it was brutal, Dash had never been good at studying, but he'd decided that this was what he needed to do, this was important to him.
It still wasn't enough.
It would come at him in the night, as soon as he laid his head down on his pillow. He would see the faces of all the kids he hurt, it felt so much worse the older he got, they just looked younger and younger every time the memories came back to plague him.
He had beat the shit out of children. Kids who were the same age as the students he now counselled. He beat them until they were bloody or bruised, he shoved them into lockers, pulled pranks that humiliated them in front of the whole school, and he had laughed.
He'd laughed at their pain.
When the guilt weighed him down, he would begin searching for new programs to volunteer for, new petitions or rallies to get behind, always finding another way to help protect kids like Danny from kids like him.
And to protect kids like him from doing things that would one day haunt them.
He had spread himself thin across every school in the district, barely keeping afloat at college, but it wasn't enough.
It was never enough.
Kids still slipped through the cracks, schools were still too lenient, there were too many kids, not enough volunteers.
Casper High was holding another anti-bullying assembly. It had been a few years since Dash had attended one at his old school. This year they had excitedly announced that they'd even secured an appearance from Phantom himself.
Dash's blood ran cold, his hands shook as he went over his notes, he was slated to do his speech alongside Phantom's, they would be sharing the stage for a solid 75 minutes, barely a few feet from one another.
When Danny showed up he was already in Phantom form, Dash spotted him discussing emergency exit plans with one of the organisers in the event of a ghost attack.
He was so different from when they were in school.
He was tall, and broad, he stood with confidence and had a good natured charm to him. He was a hero, he was strong, he was brave. He could fight monsters ten times his size with a smirk and a witty one liner. He could take on anything, he wasn't afraid of anything.
He was a kid, running down a hallway, screaming words that still pierced through Dash's mind every time he saw the hero's face.
"DON'T TOUCH ME."
Dash's hands clenched around his notes, shaking so violently that they barely even looked like words.
"DON'T YOU EVER FUCKING TOUCH ME EVER AGAIN."
"Dash?"
A deep voice cut through the chaos in Dash's mind as cold hands closed over his tremblings ones.
"It's good to see you again."
Phantom was smiling at him, his hands still closed around Dash's.
"Good... good to see you too." Dash mumbled, not able to meet the man's eyes.
Phantom paused before releasing Dash's hands.
"I've heard all about your work." Phantom grinned as Dash finally looked up and met his eyes.
"Yeah." he said, and then before his mind could catch up with his mouth, he blurted out, "I'm sorry, for everything."
Phantom's eyebrows rose for a moment, before he gave a gentle smile and clapped a hand on Dash's shoulder.
"I know." he said warmly. "Thank you."
They gave their speeches, Dash had told his story many times before, the victim that he'd pushed to breaking point, the boy whose words drove the change that made him the man he had become.
For the first time ever, that boy was listening.
After the assembly had packed up and the volunteers were heading home, it was Danny Fenton who approached Dash and asked if he wanted to go grab a beer together.
Dash thought it would be rather awkward, but Danny had plenty of experience socialising with the public, awkwardness slid right off him, and soon enough Dash found himself laughing alongside Danny as he told a story about the new misadventures of the Box Ghost.
He returned to his dorm that night, head still swimming from one too many beers, and he had the best sleep of his life.
He pulled back on some of his volunteer work, hunting for new people to take his place as he focused on college. He was falling far behind, but he would work hard to make his way back. As a volunteer he could only do so much, but with the right education and training, he could do so much more.
The guilt still haunted him, every so often when the pressure and the stress weighed heavy, it would creep back into his mind. It would probably never go away, not entirely, but at least now he had his closure.
Finally, it was enough.

Enhypen Reaction to Their Crush Going On a Blind Date to Make Them Jealous
Tumblr media
A/N: So, I haven't written any fluff the past few days, and I wanted to write something fluffy lol. And I'm having some Enhypen feels, so why not?
Heeseung
The moment you tell him you're going on a blind date, his eyes would narrow, as he just stares at you without saying a word. Even though he's not sure about your feelings, he can see right through you, and knows that the date is something you're going on not because you want to, but because of some
other reason.
Nonetheless, he pretends to be happy for you, helping you choose what to wear and how to do your makeup. He even says, "I'll drop you off to your date!," making you pout internally at how unaffected he seems.
But the moment he parks the car outside the cafe that your date is at, instead of wishing you luck and driving away, he follows you inside. "Hee, what are you doing?," you whisper-yell, only to have him ignore you and instead, turn to your date. "You seem pretty chill, but sorry, Y/N should be with me," is all he says, before grabbing your hand and pulling you back out.
Jay
Jay always knows everything, so he would probably have already caught onto your feelings. So when you tell him you're going on a blind date, he would not even bother to look up from his phone, knowing you're just doing this to spite him. This would no doubt tick you off, as you say with a pout, "Well, seems like your phone is more interesting than me."
The moment you make a move to get out out of the room though, he'd call out after you, (and take hold if your wrist if you're close enough)."Wait, don't go," he'd say, coming to stand right in front of you. Looking into your eyes, he adds, "By don't go, I mean, don't go out of the room, and don't go on that date either."
When he sees your confused expression, he heaves a sigh, before telling you how much he likes you.
Jake
Jake is such a soft guy and he likes you so much, that it would be painfully obvious that he doesn't like the idea of you going on a date, even though he tries to appear happy for you. You can literally see how the huge smile that was plastered on his face (because he is hanging out with his crush, after all), gradually fade as you tell him about your blind date.
He'd try to be cheerful and supportive of you, but would fail miserably at hiding how sad he is. Eventually, you would end up having to confront him, asking him what was up. He would try to evade your questions, giving you a smile that's downright fake, but you'd see right through him.
"Look, I know you probably don't like me that way, but it's just, the idea of you going on a date is hurting me, because I like you, so much," he'd say, looking up to find your gobsmacked expression, as you wonder how he didn't notice the huge crush you have on him.
Sunghoon
This guy would, like Heeseung, pretend to be happy for you, but like Jake, he would fail miserably. You'd be able to see that he's hurting as he helps you decide what to wear, and you'd notice his sad eyes as he hugs you as you exit your apartment to go to your date. You keep purposefully drawing things out, walking slowly in the hopes that he would come up behind you, asking you to not go.
But he doesn't show up, and, heaving a sigh, you finally walk into the restaurant where you date is waiting for you. Midway through your date though, just as you are actually starting to enjoy the conversation after having come clean about your crush on Sunghoon, the aforementioned man storms into the restaurant, coming to stand right in front of you.
"Y/N, I know I may be too late in saying this, but I like you a lot. Please don't date anyone else, I don't want you to leave me," he says.
Sunoo
This guy would probably throw a whole tantrum when you tell him about your date, but he still won't admit his feelings. "But if you start dating someone, you won't have time to hang out with me," he says with a pout. Even though you're sad that he isn't flat-out stopping you from going on the date, you can't help but gush at how cute he is.
"Aigoo, Sunoo, I will always make time for you," you'd reply, but he would still be pouty, clinging to you like a koala. "But I don't want anyone else to be more important to you than me," he'd mumble, making you turn to face him.
"What is it Sunoo? This isn't just about you wanting attention, is it? Come on, spit it out," you'd say, making him hang his head low as he finally confesses to you. "I like you Y/N," he says with a pout.
Jungwon
He would literally panic when you tell him about your blind date? "You're what? B-but I thought you liked me too!," he'd blurt out, placing a hand on his mouth when be realizes what he just said. You'd stare at him blankly, unable to process whether he meant that he likes you back. After a couple minutes, you'd finally ask, "L-like you too? Does that mean-?," and he'd shake his head "no," before suddenly stopping and nodding.
This would confuse you even more, and seeing your puzzled expression, he'd say, "I-I meant to say that I kinda like you, and I kinda thought you like me too. I wanted to confess, but I was waiting to find the right time. But you-you're going on a date, and I just panicked, and-"
You'd cut him off, hugging him tight. He'd be taken aback by your action, but would eventually calm down, hugging you back. "I do like you," you'd whisper, making him smile.
Ni-Ki
Being the super-competitive kid he is, as soon as you mention your plan of going on a blind date, he would decide that he would prove to you how much better off you'd be, dating him. "I bet this date of yours will never be as great as any date I could plan," he'd boast, making you roll your eyes to try and hide your smile as you consider the prospect of him crushing on you too.
And so, he would take you out on a date a day before your blind date is scheduled to happen, and it would be safe to say, it's the most amazing date you have ever been on. He'd be reminding you of all the reasons you'd be better off dating him, without actually telling you he likes you. "You don't have to dress up for me. I've seen you look in your straight-out-of-bed look, and you always look amazing," "I know all your favorite Starbucks drinks too."
Finally, it would be you who confesses, making Ni-Ki drop his confident demeanor for a more shy one. Needless to say, you don't go on your blind date the next day.

Distant Shores-2
Summary: The heathens came to raid every year, stealing treasures and killing along the way. Your father was the King of Wessex and wanted to strike a deal with the heathens. The heathens and their ruthless numbers in exchange for some lands to farm, riches... and you. You are the Christian princess that is now to marry the Heathen King, a man that you're sure would rather kill you than marry you. This is going to be a miserable marriage.
A Viking!BakugouxReader fic.
Tumblr media
The boat ride back to where the Vikings lived was a long one. As exciting as being on the open water was, to see so much open space it got old quickly. The water would spray at you, soaking you to your bones and causing you to shiver. There also wasn’t much to look at other than the deep blue of the ocean, white fluffy clouds in the sky, the other Viking ships floating nearby.
You also couldn’t really speak to anyone, you did not know their language at all nor they yours. The only one who seemed to know anything was the man that was to be your husband, however he didn’t seem interested in talking. At least not to you. From what you could tell he was grumpy, rude, unpredictable and overall unpleasant. You wondered why these people followed him, weather or not they had a choice in the matter or not. Back home no matter what anyone thought of your father they had to follow, he was King after all. You weren’t quite sure how it worked here but you couldn’t ask either.
You huffed, drawing the fur closer around your body, the same one that had been placed on you near the start of your journey. He had to have a nice bone somewhere in his body, right? If he gave you this fur, then again maybe he just hadn’t wanted to hear you complain. It felt like you had been on the sea forever, and there was a constant chill to you that you couldn’t shake. You had no idea how some of these men were shirtless, though you supposed it would be easy to work up a sweat rowing as they did. You hadn’t ever thought of that, that there were people who did such a job. You hadn’t been on one of your fathers ships and even if you had you wouldn’t have seen the men working so hard to row.  One of the men must have noticed your staring because he gestured to you and then to the oar that he was holding, laughing and joking with the men beside him. However you stood up, giving the man a smile. At this point you’d do anything to warm up and help. You felt useless this entire time, the only person who hadn’t taken a turn to row. The man looked shocked at you as you stood up, gently touching the oar. You weren’t quite sure how to do this, that much was obvious but the man did his best to instruct you without actually speaking. You figured you got the gist of it and it only took you a minute or so to get in sync with the other men rowing. You laughed softly to yourself before starting to feel the burn in your arms. This was a workout, but judging by the men near you and their large arms this was something they were used to. A few of the men near you let out little snickers and chuckles, shaking their heads. They hadn’t expected such a prim and proper lady to do such a thing. You on the other hand, found things like this interesting and wanted to try it all.
It did not last long however until you felt a strong hand wrapping around your upper arm and dragging you up, causing you to drop the oar and gasp slightly. Bakugou was barking angrily at the man that had gotten up from his position while gripping tightly on your arm. You couldn’t understand what he was saying but he sounded angry and you instantly regretted your decision. “It is my fault.. not his.” You managed to get out, your own hand touching Bakugou’s arm.  “Quiet you, you are meant to sit here until we get back.” Bakugou growled as he looked down at you, almost snarling as he deposited you back to where you had originally been seated. You grumbled for a few moments, looking up at Bakugou with narrowed eyes, obviously upset that he had pulled you away from your task.
The two of you were sharing a very long, intense stare. A few of the men around you admired your braveness and said as much, not that you could understand what they were saying to begin with. Soon a spray of ocean water broke your gaze as it came crashing right next to you and you had to move to get out of it’s way. “You sit here, and do not say anything the rest of the way.” Bakugou grumbled as he moved you to a spot where there wasn’t too much spray and threw another fur over you.
His mood was hard to understand, he could be somewhat kind as you’d witnessed before, but he was also surly and rude. To be married to someone like that for the rest of your life, always having to guess at what emotion he had and walking on eggshells. That was not something that you wanted to deal with, however you didn’t have much choice in the matter. Running away? Well you were in the middle of the ocean and once you got back to land your odds weren’t much better. In a foreign land where you didn’t speak the language? Yeah that wouldn’t be good. So at this point you were stuck, with no much choice other than to marry a man you didn’t know or love.
It was a day or so later that seagulls were seen flying above and you saw the men getting excited, so you figured that you must be getting closer to home. Well their home, your new prison. Moments later a small town came into view, huts and longhouses, docks and a beautiful beach. You stayed put where you were however, instead of going to get a closer look. You really didn’t want to anger your future any further.
Soon the men were docking, women waiting with children at the docks smiling happily and waving at what you presumed were their husbands. They were all so happy to see their families some jumped off the boats before they were properly docked and unloaded. You wondered what it was like, to have such a family. You figured you’d never know. Your parents weren’t exactly the loving type, always more concerned with their country and duty. You smiled at watching them reunite, happy for them. Children climbed on their fathers shoulders, heavily pregnant women eagerly hugged their husbands.
You were roughly pulled from your seated position, a calloused hand gripping your upper arm tightly and hauling you towards the docks. You did your best to fall into step beside him, tripping over your own feet as his pace was quick. “Keep up.” He grumbled as he looked back angerly at you before stopping once they had got to the red head you often saw Bakugou hanging around with. He was huddled close to a beautiful, bubbly woman holding a a newborn baby wrapped in furs. The two were cooing over the little thing before Bakugou walked over to them.  “Look at how beautiful she is, you really outdid yourself Mina.”
“Well you had a hand in it as well you know.”  You heard the woman giggle but you had no idea what they were saying so you just stayed put, catching your breath from that walk. Bakugou stayed put, looking down at the baby and you could have sworn you saw a light smile gracing his lips. However whatever was there was gone just as quick.  “She is beautiful.” Bakugou agreed and looked at the two. “Congratulations. A new child is a wonderful thing.” “Who is she?” Mina asked, peeking around Kirishima to get a better look at the woman Bakugou was holding onto so tightly.  “Oh don’t worry about her, I’ll explain later.” Kirishima whispered to her before Bakugou drug her along and she stumbled to keep up. You didn’t dare speak up, not wanting to be embarrassed in front of people you didn’t know. It took a bit but soon you made it to a very big long house where many people seemed to be convening and all were smiling at Bakugou, saying words that you didn’t understand and clapping him on the back. You were sure they were all congratulating and thanking him for a raid well done. You got many curious looks as well, however Bakugou didn’t divulge that information to anyway.  There was a large feast prepared, everyone sat in the great hall laughing and feasting. You were set next to Bakugou, picking at your food because you were just too nervous to do much else. Of course you felt out of place, you didn’t understand any of the conversations going on and the only person who you could speak to seemed much more interested in other things. However a bit after this feast started Bakugou stood up and everyone silenced, even the children were quiet in the presence of their earl.  “We are gathered here to celebrate our great raid!” Bakugou yelled out into the crowd, even if it was quiet he felt the need for such celebration. Everyone yelled out, taking drinks and laughing amongst themselves. “We had a very succesful raid and we shall make it through the winter, if not longer! We did strike a deal with the King of Wessexs. He offered us riches and land in exchange for our army should he need it. We also have his daughter, who I am to marry.” He didn’t say the last part quite happily but it was what it was. He was to marry this girl and that was that. “Now weather or not we uphold our part of the deal is to remain seen. After all if he is going to drag us into a lengthy and pointless war we will not participate, and deal with those repercussions later.” At that the men laughed. “Now eat, drink, celebrate our return and our new riches!”
You hadn’t understood anything that he’d said but you assumed that it had something to do with being back and some kind of pep talk you were sure. It didn’t take a genius to figure it out. Although while the men and women drank, celebrated and got a touch too feely with each other than you were used to you awkwardly sat and watched the festivities. Children running and playing, wives draping themselves over their husbands and some doing everything they could to welcome them back, men sitting around and talking with each other. Your husband to be was doing just that, drinking and talking with a few of the other men you’d seen him around often.
You felt out of place some eyes staring at you and definitely giving you the cold shoulder. You were an outsider, a stranger to their otherwise seemingly close knit unit. Even those who seemed to be servants ignored and moved around you. It had been a very long journey and an even longer night. You felt yourself falling asleep sitting up, while you had no idea where you are supposed to sleep. “Get up.” A gruff voice next to you grumbled and gripped your arm, hauling you up from your seated position. Your eyes opened as you stood and looked up at Bakugou. “You can’t fall asleep at the table. Come.” He commanded as he made his way towards a curtained off area. Once you got past the curtains there was an area with a bed, trunks, spare furs and treasures you hadn’t ever seen before. “You’ll stay here with me, in the bed.” Your eyes went wide at that, having never shared a bed with a man before. However you supposed that this man was going to be your husband.  You nodded before looking around the room and noticing that your one trunk wasn’t here, “Your things are not here... you can sleep in this.” Bakugou threw one of his tunics at you, and while it would be big on you it certainly wasn’t what you were used to and you’d be showing more than you were comfortable with. “I’ll turn around.” He rolled his eyes, grumbling and turning around.
“Thank you.” You whispered, although you knew that he would see it all soon enough you were grateful that he would at least give you this until that day came.
Days came and went, and most of them would have been spent alone had Bakugou not been so generous as to allow one of his men to escourt you around, it helped that he was also fluent in your language. He had joined the Vikings on one of their raids last summer and while some of the men still didn’t trust him he was loyal to them. His name was Shoto Todoroki and he was quiet but kind. He would translate conversations for you, although most of them held no interest for you however some did involve you and most of the women around were upset that you were taking Bakugou. However you weren’t exactly taking him, you’d been forced into this marriage just as much as he had. You also didn’t think that he’d been too interested in the women either.
No one wanted to speak to you, and it was lonely although you did have Shoto but there were times that he had other things to do and you didn’t want him to have to hang out with you all day. He was sweet and kind however and much more of a conversationalist than Bakugou. You would get occasional grunts and commands when you were together but that wasn’t often. He was always busy and kept you under watch whenever he was gone.
A week had gone by since you’d been in the Viking lands and it was time for your wedding. It had been planned quickly and all the traditions were so different from your own. The wedding was on a Friday, because it was Friggas day and she was the Goddess of marriage, love and fertility according to Shoto. You’d bathed in a bath house with Bakugous mother, Mitsuki, to wash away your status as a Maidan. It was usually done with married women of your family however none of your family was here so different arrangements were made. You quite liked Bakugous mother, she was not quite as brash and rude as her son but you saw where he got his personality from.
After your bath your hair was braided and ornaments were placed in it, another tradition you were not familiar with. You were dressed in a blue gown that had been made specifically for this wedding, it was simple as you’d been told your hair was more important than the actual dress. You’d picked up on a few words here and there, as well as Shoto had been teaching you some things. Especially what to say during the wedding, which was something you’d been nervous of.
Once the actual wedding started you were feeling nervous, walking down that long way towards Bakugous back, seeing him wearing his best furs and clothes. During the ceremony you did your best to pay attention, although you didn’t understand everything and just went along with what was happening. Exchanging rings, swords-which was strange for you-and a very chaste, first, kiss. Bakugou looked indifferent the entire time, and you felt much the same. You hadn’t gotten to know him since you’d been here, he was always off working with his people or solving their problems.
There was a large feast held afterwards with plenty of mead flowing and while you hadn’t ever tried the stuff before you decided why not, after all you had no idea what was to become of your wedding night but you had a feeling Bakugou was going to expect something. Where you came from no one spoke of it, however a few cheeky maids had let you in on the secret of losing your maidenhood. You were nervous but figured some liquid courage could help. You sputtered and choked at first, to which your now husband laughed at you for. “Didn’t expect you to want to drink.” He laughed, the mead loosening his tongue a bit. It was the most that he’d spoken to you in days.  “If I am supposed to be your wife maybe I should act like a Viking.” That got another laugh out of your husband who shook his head. This feast was quite a bit like allthe others every night but this one was bigger than the rest and there was much more alcohol flowing through it.
The night dragged on and soon enough you found yourself in Bakugous large bed, naked and surrounded by furs. He could tell you were nervous and so he took his time. Working you up, only to have you crashing down with such a force that you couldn’t explain. The maids might have told you about losing your maidenhood however they hadn’t spoke to it feeling like this. Just when you thought you couldn’t take anymore he proved you wrong. You didn’t think that it could feel like this, nor did you think Bakugou could be so gentle and nice. At the end of it you could hardly keep your eyes open and Bakugou cleaned you up and dressed you, covering you up with furs. He might not have wanted this marriage but he wasn’t going to be the biggest asshole in the world. At least not tonight.
A/N: I did my best to add in viking wedding traditions although it was a little hard because a lot of them involved thins with family and obviously reader does not have family here! Yes I decided to put Kirishima and Mina together, idk why it just seems like a good pairing to me and I’ve seen it in quite a few fics as well! Mina is also a warrior but she stayed behind because she was still pregnant at the time of the raid starting. Also when things are in italics that is when they are speaking the Viking language. Also I am not adding smut in because I can’t control if a minor is going to read this or not plus I am not good at writing it anyway haha. This got a little dry and boring in the middle, I apologize but The next part will start to get a little more angsty and juicy so I hope you’re ready!!

Asking for Death
Note: So forever ago, @ectoblood and I had a conversation about a clone asking Danny to kill him and discussed, if a Danny clone would feel imperfect because he doesn’t share the same interests and dreams as his original? I actually expanded a little on those ideas from these two posts so have a ficlet.
Also on AO3 and Fanfiction.net
Daniel knows he was imperfect. It’s obvious; Father made that abundantly clear. The boy knows he was cloned from someone named Danny. And the older half ghost made it clear; he looked just like Danny and had all his powers. But that wasn’t enough. Father wants a better version of this Danny, someone who is a loving and obedient son but also with the personality and interests of the original. Perfect son, Father says, holding up this idealized version of the clone. He is to be the perfect son.
Father notices the difference and the man does not like it. He’s deeply dissatisfied because how dare his ‘perfect son’ not meet all of his expectations. His ideals t hat no one, not a clone or even the original Danny, could ever meet.
Father tries to force him in that direction. Daniel is a clone so of course, he likes space and video games and horror movies like his original. Daniel wants to be a good son, a perfect son. He really does. And he tries. He tries everything that Father offers him. And Daniel finds he likes some things that Danny does and doesn’t like other things. The clone also finds he has some of his own interests and dreams. He would rather watch birds in the garden than the stars. He’s rather draw than play video games. And horror movies...they scar him. He’d rather watch musicals.
Soon he’s always yelling at Daniel for some reason.
“Say yes sir, when you address me!”
“I… yes, Father. Sir.”
“I told you to clean the kitchen an hour ago. Why is it not done?!”
“I...I apologize, sir. I’ll...I’ll do that right now.”
“You call that an ecto energy attack? Pathetic!”
“Allow...allow me to try again. I will do better, please.”
He’s not obedient enough or powerful enough. He’s ungrateful, too quiet, too timid.
“Why do you never use the telescope I bought you?!”
“I...I have been busy with my studies. But...Tonight. Father, sir.”
Daniel never geeks out about space. The clone actually likes reading and birdwatching and hiking. He’s quieter and more thoughtful than his original.
All this burns in Vlad’s mind, his anger rising. How dare his perfect son behave like this? He was to be a perfect copy, in body and mind, yet perfectly loyal to his maker.
And for Daniel, all he wants is to make his Father happy. Maybe Father will be happy with him if he acts more like the person that Father wants him to be. So he tries to make himself like the things that Danny does and pretends to enjoy Danny’s interests. But he’s miserable, because space and horror movies don’t make him happy like reading in the garden and watching the birds does. He tries to be more outgoing and outspoken but that’s just not him. And Vlad can see that the clone is just putting on an act, trying to be more like Danny but failing (because he’s not Danny!).
So Vlad gets increasingly angry and dissatisfied because his ‘perfect’ son isn’t perfect. Vlad yells at him because he’s wrong, broken, a mistake, imperfect.
“Why should I even bother to keep a mistake like you around?”
“I… Father. Please. I’ll do better.”
“Be silent.”
“Father?”
“Never call me that again! Nothing as broken and imperfect as you deserves the privilege of calling me that. I am your Master, boy.”
“But-”
“I AM YOUR MASTER.”
“Yes… yes sir, Master.”
And Daniel believes him because Vlad is his Father, no, his Master and his Master has to be correct. If he was just more like Danny, then the man would love him. But he can’t be more like Danny. He’s not Danny and he’ll never be, no matter how hard he tries.
Vlad gave up on him, in his insanity thinking he just needs to try again. But he keeps the clone because he could be useful. Daniel isn’t Vlad’s son. He is tool. The man stops even trying to show him affection, increasingly having him run dangerous errands and be a lab rat for the older halfa. Vlad throws himself into making the next clone
“This one will work. It has too.”
“F- Master. Please, I’m hungry. Maybe I have some...some food.”
And the clone increasingly spirals into hopelessness and depression.
“Stop crying. You’re negatively affecting the data.”
“F...father. Please. St...stop.”
“I told you not to call me that.”
A cry of pain as Vlad digs the knife in deeper.
“Oh please. It barely even hurts.”
Weakened from hunger, thirst, and injury, Daniel escapes one day when Master is away. He...he is a failure. He...he is weak, he is horrid for begging Master to stop, for leaving now. But...he can’t...he can’t do this anymore. There is...there is only one way for the pain to end.
He arrives at a familiar building, one he’s seen through Master’s cameras. He rings the door bell and the front door opens to a familiar boy.
“Please. Please kill me.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Danny refuses, of course. So Daniel tries to force his hand, attacking him. But Danny still refuses to hurt him, only defending himself so he can capture the other boy. Danny manages to get him in a thermos and soon after releases him in the ghost containment unit in the basement. He hates doing it but needs to talk to the other boy where the clone can’t hurt himself or anyone else. Danny manages to get some information from the near inconsolable boy.
“He keeps… he keeps hurting me.”
‘Who?”
“M...master.”
Eyes wide. “Vlad! Of course. Of course he cloned me again.”
Despite being stable and trying to be a good son, the clone’s still not what Vlad wants. He’s tried so hard to be what the older half-ghost wants but the man is still obsessed with having the ‘perfect’ son. And feeling like a failure and that his life is worthless, the clone wants to die and hopes that his original would have mercy enough to take him out of his misery.
After the speech, Danny is heartbroken watching the other boy weep. He feels helpless, not knowing what to do. He joins the other boy inside the unit, trying to comfort him. The clone still begs Danny to end him but the other halfa refuses.
“Why won’t you just do it?!”
“I will not hurt you. I don’t care how much you beg me or if you attack me again, I. will. not. hurt. you.”
“Please. I’m no one. I’m worthless. I can’t do this.”
“You’re not worthless. I promise. You’re not.”
“But I am. I AM.”
Danny grabs the other boy’s face. “Look at me. You are not worthless. You aren’t no one.”
“But-”
Danny cuts him off. “You’re family.” The clone’s mouth snaps. “I don’t care that we just met, or that you tried to hurt me. I made up my mind. You’re my family, no matter what. And I am going to find a way to help you. Vlad will never hurt you again.”
The other boy looks dumbstruck but Danny can tell he was listening. Just after Danny let go of his face, the clone fell forward, collapsing in Danny’s arms. He still wept but Danny thinks this clone did hear him. And he meant what he said. The boy he was hugging was family and Danny would always do everything in his power to help his family. Even if he wasn’t sure how to right now.
baby kiss it better
summary: When D.C. implements a lockdown order, you and Spencer decide to quarantine together. There’s just one problem—he’s working from home, and his coworkers don’t know about you.
pairing: spencer reid x gn!reader
category: fluff
content warnings: a few swear words, but otherwise it’s just fluff
a/n: ahh, the secret partner trope. how i love it. this is set in 2020, but with the season 5 cast! i was feeling particularly self-indulgent, so i made reader a night shift worker. this is for you, fellow night owls. stay safe out there everyone, and wear a mask!
a/n 2: i don’t actually know what a doctor or physical therapist would recommend for spencer’s knee injury. this is just going on my basic understanding of anatomy (i took a class in it this fall!) and what i've seen on grey’s anatomy lol.
Spencer tries not to grimace as he shifts in his chair. Working from home during the lockdown had initially seemed like it came at a great time, starting just a month after his knee injury. Sure, he wasn’t thrilled about having to do almost everything digitally, but at least he wouldn’t have to worry about being mobile.
Unfortunately, that had turned out to be a downside. Tethered to his seat by headphones, he hasn’t been able to get up and stretch his leg properly, and as a result, is experiencing more pain.
It’s only 8:30, but he can already feel it flaring up. It’s been happening earlier every day, likely due to the existing irritation from the day before. Today is Thursday, and he’s miserable—he dreads to think of what tomorrow will be like.
He’s wondering if there’s some way he could get out of work tomorrow when he hears the sound of the front door being unlocked. He looks up to see you pushing the door open with your shoulder, carrying far too many grocery bags than is reasonable.
“Be careful!” he exclaims, watching as you teeter to the side a little. You just wave him off and close the door with your heel.
Working from home may not have been the positive he was expecting it to be, but you’ve more than made up for it. The two of you had decided to quarantine together, and he’s really loved having you around. Granted, you’ve only been here since Sunday, but he’s starting to think that this is going to end with him asking you to move in with him for good.
He hears a thunk as you dump all the groceries on the kitchen table. Then you’re back in the living room, taking off your mask as you walk by so you can blow him a kiss. He presses his knuckles to his mouth to hide his smile.
Usually you give him a proper cheek or forehead kiss when you get home, but the team doesn’t know about you yet. It’s not that he’s necessarily keeping you a secret, he just... likes having you to himself, and he doesn’t really want it to change just yet.
He’s also not looking forward to the pitch Garcia’s voice is going to hit when she finds out he’s been dating someone for over a year without telling her.
“Are you listening, Reid?” Hotch’s voice makes Spencer focus back in on the screen.
“Oh, y-yeah. Yeah, of course. Um, I was just thinking that this choice of rope to bind the victims is interesting.” He doles out a few facts about it, which seems to do an adequate job of convincing everyone that he’s paying attention.
They take a break when the main briefing is over—Jack needs something from Hotch and Sergio has apparently knocked something breakable off of Emily’s kitchen counter. He slides his headphones off and mutes his mic. Apparently that’s a cue you’ve been waiting for, because only a few moments later you’re placing a mug of tea on his desk.
“Green tea,” you say. “Might help reduce the inflammation in your knee.” Then you’re lifting his foot off the small stool it’s resting on and sliding another pillow under it so his leg is more elevated.
“Wh—“ he starts, but you’re already hurrying back into the kitchen. You come back with a baggie of ice wrapped in a dishtowel in your hands, which you place it gently on top of his knee.
“Twenty minutes on, twenty minutes off,” you say. “Then repeat with heat instead, like your physical therapist said. I’ll get the heating pad from the bedroom.”
“Hey, wait.” Spencer snags your wrists before you can walk away again. “How’d you know it was hurting?”
“Oh, I always know,” you reply. “You should have realized that by now.”
He thinks on that as you leave to get the heating pad, sipping his tea. You do always seem to just know, whether he’s in physical pain, a bad case is bothering him, or even if he’s just in a bad mood and doesn’t know why himself.
Not a day goes by where he doesn’t feel incredibly lucky to have you in his life.
“I’m leaving it by this outlet behind you. Have you been doing your stretches?”
He bites his lip, hesitating because he knows you won’t like the answer. But he doesn’t have to say it; you can tell from his expression.
“Spencer. You know you need to be doing them.”
“I know, I do,” he insists. “I just... can’t really get up and do them with these headphones.”
You raise an eyebrow. “Okay, so take them off. Your laptop has speakers.”
“But I don’t want to disturb you,” he protests. Since you work the night shift, you sleep during the day, usually heading to bed around 11 AM. He doesn’t want the noise from the Zoom calls to keep you up. Much like the bullpen in the FBI building, the calls can get rowdy.
“You won’t,” you assure. “I’ll just shut the bedroom door.”
“I guess that works,” he relents. “But I feel weird getting up and stretching in front of everyone. Like, wouldn’t that be disruptive?”
You sigh. “Spencer, I understand it’ll make you self-conscious, but you want full mobility in your knee again, right?”
“Yeah, I do, I get it,” he says sullenly, looking down into his mug. “I need to do the stretches if I want it to heal well.”
“Hey.” You take one of his hands and squeeze it. “I’m not trying to annoy you. I just want you to get better and be in less pain. I don’t like to see you hurting.”
“You’re not annoying me. I guess I’m just... not really used to being taken care of,” he admits quietly.
“Well, I’m gonna fix that.”
The confidence in your voice makes him unable to hold back a smile. “Alright.”
You smile back. “Is there anything else I can do?”
Spencer’s about to tell you that you’ve done plenty when an idea strikes him. He tilts his head to the side. “Well, there is something.”
“Yes?”
“There’s some research—nothing too substantial, but still some—that says kisses can help relieve pain,” he says.
You laugh, but it’s not unkind. “Oh, so you want me to kiss it better?”
“Yeah,” he murmurs, glancing away shyly.
“Okay, then.” You tuck his hair behind his ear and press a kiss to his forehead. “Better?” you ask softly.
He hums. “Better.”
“Good.” You stand back up and stretch. “Well, I’ll be awake for a few more hours, so let me know if you need anything.”
“I will.”
Spencer puts his headphones back on—he wants to wait to unplug them until you go to bed to spare you from hearing anything gruesome—and looks back at the screen to find Morgan, Emily, JJ, and Garcia staring him down. Rather hesitantly, he unmutes his mic and asks, “What?”
Emily is grinning—she looks the more awake than she has all morning. “Is there anything you wanna tell us?” she asks.
“Yeah, Spence,” JJ chimes in, “any new developments in your life?”
“I don’t—” he starts, then it hits him like a truck. He remembered to mute his mic, but the camera was still on. Clearly, they all saw you kiss his forehead. He barely stops himself from hitting his head against the table; he covers his face with his hands instead and groans.
“Isn’t the whole point of all this that we stay away from other people?” Morgan asks, and Spencer doesn’t have to look up to know that Derek has a shit-eating grin on his face.
“People outside of your household,” he corrects without thinking.
“Oh my god!” Garcia shrieks and he winces, pulling the headphones off out of instinct. He’s not the only one—JJ jumps and yanks her earbuds out, and Derek lifts one side of his headphones away from his ear. Spencer hesitantly copies him, putting one half of his headphones back on.
“Jesus, Pen, you scared the shit out of Sergio,” Emily’s saying.
“Sorry, I’m so sorry,” she says, then turns her attention completely to Spencer. “Boy wonder. You’re living with someone and I’m just now hearing about it?”
“I mean, you never asked,” he points out.
“Well, I didn’t think I’d have to!” she huffs. “You usually tell your friends if you’re seeing someone new, let alone living with them!”
“You do, maybe. Emily and I don’t,” he says.
Emily herself shrugs. “Good point. Fair enough, Reid.”
“Besides, we’re not living together,” he continues, “We’re quarantining together.”
“Right, because that’s such a big difference,” JJ teases. He glares at her in return.
Rossi returns to his desk before Penelope can start bombarding Spencer with questions. But there’s no reprieve for him—the man takes one look around and knows something’s up. “Okay, what’s going on?” he asks.
“We just found out pretty boy has a partner,” Morgan sing-songs before Spencer can say anything.
“Oh really?”
“Yeah.”
“And he didn’t tell any of us!” Garcia adds.
Spencer groans again and presses the heels of his hands into his eyes. “This is exactly why I didn’t say anything,” he mutters.
A knocking sound draws his attention away from the call. You’re standing in the bedroom doorway, your hand resting on the doorframe. “You okay?” you ask. “I just heard you groan.”
Spencer mutes his mic again and then leans over so he’s out of the camera’s frame. “They found out,” he sighs.
“Found out what?”
“Found out about... you.”
Realization crosses your face. “They saw me kissing you better?”
“Yeah. I forgot the camera was still on,” he says sheepishly.
“Well, it was bound to happen eventually.” You make your way over to him and take the ice off his knee. “It’s been twenty minutes, by the way.”
“Thanks. So, um...” He picks up the fidget toy you bought him when he was going stir-crazy in the hospital and starts messing with it. “What do you wanna do about this?”
“Whatever you’re most comfortable with,” you reply immediately.
“Okay, good answer,” he says. “But I actually want to know how you feel about this.”
“Well, I’m fine with meeting them, even if it’s just over Zoom. But if you’d rather wait, I’m fine with that, too. Really,” you add when he raises an eyebrow.
“Okay, well.” Spencer looks back at the screen. Hotch has returned now, and even though he can’t hear anything, it’s clear they’re all waiting on him. Best to just do this now, he thinks, otherwise I’ll be hearing about it all day. “How would you feel about meeting them right now?”
You blink. “Um, okay. So long as you don’t mind me looking like I was up all night, because, you know... I was.”
“You look fine,” he reassures. “Uh, just stay put for a second. Let me ask if this is okay.”
He readjusts to sit in his chair properly. He starts to put his headphones back on, but you unplug them so you can hear what’s happening.
“You ready to continue, Reid?” Hotch asks. It’s business as usual with him—if he was told what happened earlier, Spencer can’t tell.
“Well, actually,” he starts, and nervousness bubbles up in his chest. He glances up and you give him a reassuring smile. “Actually, I was wondering if I could introduce you guys to someone first?”
Garcia squeals. “Ooh, sir, please say yes!”
“Just keep it quick,” Hotch says. He didn’t even hesitate—they totally told him.
Spencer takes a deep breath, then gestures for you to come over. You seem a little nervous as well, but you handle it well, walking around the desk and into the frame. “Oh, we should have gotten you something to sit on,” he laments when you lean over the back of his chair.
“It’s fine.” You drape your arms around his shoulders and adjust so your head is on the same level as his. It’s silent for a moment, then you say, “Well, introduce me, silly.”
“Oh!” He clears his throat, trying to ignore the heat he feels in his cheeks. “Um, this is (Y/N). My... my partner.”
The call explodes with greetings, everyone talking over each other. “Slow down, slow down,” Spencer pleads. This is all overwhelming enough—he doesn’t need any excess stimuli.
Once it settles, everyone takes their turn introducing themselves (you already know who they all are, though, as he’s told you so much about them). Then you field a few questions—what you do for work, how you met, what your favorite food is (that was Rossi—Spencer suspects that he wants to know for the first dinner party he can hold after quarantine is over).
It’s going well. Everyone seems to like you, and you’re getting by just fine. Until Garcia asks her question, that is.
“So, (Y/N), how long has boy wonder been keeping you a secret from us?”
Both of you tense. “Uh, you know what, I’ll let him answer that,” you say quickly. “It’s just about time for me to go to bed.”
“Wha—no. No, it’s not. It’s just barley past nine,” Spencer protests.
“Yeah, I’m really tired. I’m gonna try and get some extra sleep today.” You give a little wave. “It was nice meeting you all.”
“Don’t leave me,” he whispers desperately. “Not with that question.”
You feign a yawn. “Sorry, I’m just too tired.”
He watches you go back to the bedroom with a pout.
“Well?” Garcia insists when he looks back at her.
Spencer cringes and preemptively lowers his computer volume.
The Proposal
Tumblr media
After you’d made the decision, you needed to think of how to actually ask the boys. Now that was the only thought you had rattling around your brain as the three of you travelled to the bar- the shipment was coming in midday, so if you wanted to swipe a keg for the kick back that evening you’d need to do it soon. John B was steering the Twinkie along the roads smoothly- you held the passenger seat and JJ was star-fished in the back, the sun beating through the windshield and hammering down on your skin. Sunglasses rested over your eyes as you watched the young Routledge manoeuvre the vehicle; one of his large hands and dextrous fingers wrapped loosely around the wheel, the other one resting on his lap, tapping out the rhythm of the song playing from the speakers. Lips mouthing along with the words- wild and salted hair flopping away from his face, eyes narrowed as they concentrated on the roads ahead. Freckles more prominent from their constant exposure to the bright sun, bandanna ever present and tied around his neck loosely. You knew that staring at him like this was weird, but you couldn’t help yourself- he truly was gorgeous. As if feeling your intense gaze; he turned his face towards you, eyes questioning but lips smiling all the same. You returned the smile weakly, thankful for the car seat beneath you- your knees would have surely buckled otherwise.
Shaking your head- jeeze, if you couldn’t deal with a smile from John B how could you ask him or even try to convince him to have sex with you; it was a good job there was a kegger tonight, maybe the liquid courage would help you. The twinkie pulled up a short distance from the back of the bar; delivery truck parked there also. You looked to the mission leader; who slapped JJ’s knee alerting him he was needed, before turning back to you and tilting his head- a charming smile in place, as JJ’s head bobbed in between the seats close enough for you to smell the weed clinging to his breath.
“So… what’s the plan here?” John B asked, eyes glancing between you and JJ- you bit your lip and tried to think of a plan of action, JJ tapped a finger to his lip and John B rolled his eyes at the pair of you. “So we don’t even have half a plan and we need to grab a keg asap… awesome..” he muttered tapping his thumbs against the steering wheel in contemplation- he turned and grinned at you, eyeing your clothing and then putting on the puppy eyes and pout.
“Oh no… what did you have in mind John B? I feel like I’m not going to enjoy this….” You whined, following his eyes to the jean shorts sitting at your hips and the bikini top covering you- JJ tuned his head and copied the pair of you before laughing and holding his hand to John B to high five. You rolled your eyes and cringed as the brunette patted your shoulder.
“Use your womanly wiles Y/N… Distract him and me and J will steal the keg, when its in the bus just bail and that’s it..” John B stated, as if it was the easiest thing in the world- you could feel our head shaking mouth open like a fish, not entirely sure you had any womanly wiles. You turned to JJ who smirked and winked at you and pointed to the delivery truck in front of you all. You sighed and ran a hand through your salted hair. John B could sense your reservations and began fluttering his eyes at you; clasping his hands under his chin and puckering his lips into a pout- JJ copied his actions and you crumbled, they had to know how cute they both looked right now, and you hated to admit it even to yourself- but it was like kryptonite. You nodded shakily and breathed out in a slow puff of air before reaching for the door and leaving the safety of the bus- before trudging to you ultimate humiliation. This was a trick you’d seen Kie pull a hundred times over, but you were 99% sure you’d fail miserably and let your boys down. With one more look over your shoulder, you could see them grin and give you encouraging thumbs up, you rolled your eyes and continued to the truck- when you were within hearing distance you let out a small cough to cover the boys getting out of the bus. At the sound of your approach the delivery driver turned to you, you pasted a small smile on your face.
“Hey.. Sorry to interrupt and all, but I was just uhh wondering if you’d help me?” you asked, nervously ruffling up your hair, walking backwards from the truck slightly- your eyes widened as the driver eyed you up and down not so subtly- a predatory grin slipping onto his features. You could see JJ waving you off from behind the driver- barely nodding your head, you stood a little straighter when the guys eyes devoured you, you stepped away from the truck- internally freaking out. You wandered closer to the edge of the road lined with trees, eyes glancing all around you trying to think of an excuse- eyes focusing on a poster on a phone pole a few feet away. You stopped and turned to see the guy behind you- he moved his eyes to yours quickly, having been enjoying the view. You tried not to gag and looked over his shoulder to see the boys creeping up to the truck.
“It’s really not a problem, what can I help you with?” he asked, smiling in a way he thought was charming- but he had nothing on JJ or John B; the way those boys smiled should be against the law. You chuckled nervously.
“I was just wondering if you’d seen a dog run past? I was trying to get him back into my car and he bolted.. guess he saw something more interesting..” You stated- trying to think of how Kie plays this normally, lifting one hand to awkwardly twist in you loose hair, and pouting slightly. The man stepped closer to you, you had to stop putting more space between you when he did.
“I’ve tried calling for him and everything… I’m just super worried about him, he’s only a puppy…” You stated, grasping at straws as you tried to keep the drivers attention. The man agreed quickly, and he began scanning the trees nearby. You smiled gratefully when he looked up to you, he continued to scan- you looked behind him and gestured wildly to JJ and John B; they were trying to get a keg from the back of the truck without alerting the driver, JJ shook his head and waved his hand at you- motioning for you to carry on.
“So what does your dog look like? What’s his name and everything? The more information I have the more I can help the damsel in distress…” the man mentioned, smiling in thatway again, you could feel your skin crawl as his eyes focused on your chest once more.
“Umm Buddy? He’s a um Golden retriever, big eyes, cute as hell but not too bright…” You stated eyes flickering to JJ and John B behind the driver- they were almost done just about to close the doors to the bus. You panicked as the driver began to turn, so you quickly placed you hand on his chest- grabbing his attention again.
“Do you think he’ll be okay?” You asked quickly, biting your bottom lip- drawing his gaze there. It was as you heard the boys pull up beside you, you sighed out a breath and let your hand drop as soon as JJ slid the side door open for you. Taking a few steps backwards to the bus, you began your retreat and the driver looked more than upset as he spotted one of the kegs in the back with JJ. Your eyes widened and you waved for John B to start driving and you’d catch up. As you jogged backwards trying to ward the man off as John B picked up speed, JJ holding an arm out the side for you to grab when ready.
“You know what… I totally forgot I don’t even have a dog… !” You yelled out as you caught hold of JJ’s hand and he dragged you- poking your head out the door, you waved and blew the driver a kiss as you yelled out “Thanks again!” JJ and John B whooped and laughed loudly- JJ slamming the door shut as you collapsed on the floor, hands covering your face as you felt the waves of humiliation wash over you.
“That was amazing!” John B laughed out beeping the horn and blasting the tunes as the three of you peeled away from the crime scene.
“I don’t even have a dog… !” JJ mimicked you laughing until your stomach hurt. You shook your head and grabbed the Juul from his pocket breathing in the relaxant and waiting for the redness to leave your face.
“I don’t know how Kie does that all the time… It was so awkward and creepy!” You whined hiding your face in your hands again as JJ poked teasingly at your reddened cheek.
“Nahh Y/N, you did good.. Kie can take a break from distraction duties from now on!” John B called out turning his grinning face to you momentarily before focusing back on the road. As you pulled into John B’s drive, you spotted Kie and Pope sitting on the porch waiting for you al to get back. The five of you talked and laughed as you took the keg and other essentials down to the boneyard- you regaled each other with tales from the day; John B and JJ taking great pride in retelling how you distracted the driver for them to steal the very keg they were carrying, as they did they made the whole situation sound better than it really was. You rolled your eyes as Kie wrapped her arm around your neck and repeated John B’s words from earlier.
The kegger was in full swing- red solo cups filled to the brim with contraband beer or some other alcohol. A bonfire in the middle- keg a little ways off being manned by JJ and John B. You gulped some of the sweet drink Kie had procured for you both from some kook or another. You looked around you again as she dragged you more to wards the bonfire- which seemed to be where everyone was dancing and mingling; JJ and John B filling up cups of tourons and flirting with them shamelessly- the tourons blushing madly and giggling. Pope was a little ways off sitting on some drift wood- talking to a girl, who actually looked interested as he chatted to her, you had no doubts he was talking about pathology again. Kie grabbed your and pulled you towards her and began dancing with you to- you watched the groups of girls and boys grinding on eachother- laughing when Kie mimicked them; throwing it back on you as you danced along. You felt hands on your waist tugging you back into a sweaty chest- Kie stopped dancing and stood abruptly as you were dragged away from her. She settled back to dancing against you as you hips were swayed between her and the person behind you- looking down you saw an adornment of rigs glistening on familiar fingers in the fire light. JJ pulled Kie closer to and in turn you closer to him. Th group danced some more, Pope and John B joining in- each pulling you and Kie into spins and dips- Kie and Pope doing the foot dance form TikTok while JJ pulled you back to him again one arm around your waist, his other hand holding a Juul to your lips for you to toke on. John B danced in front of you, his face low in line with your chest as you shimmied in front of him, his head following- you gripped his chin, pulling him up to full height before trying to push his face away as you blew out the smoke- he laughed and inhaled what he could before stealing it from JJ’s hand and taking a hit himself. JJ tried to protest- but ultimately cheered as John B placed it back between your lips, you in turn took a hit and then passed it back to JJ.
Kie suddenly came spinning back to you, pulling on your hand so you were back to back with her and the pair of you shimmied and swayed your hips together; Pope hyped you both cheering and doing some fancy footwork around you both, JJ and John B whooped joyfully as you all had a blast. You could feel the weed and alcohol giving you a real buzz- you swayed whether you were dancing or not, and gestured to the group to sit down, they followed you in a konga line all the while laughing until you all collapsed on the driftwood seating. You rested your head on Kie’s shoulder and sipped on your drinks- which you’d been refilling and probably had, had too much of already- watching as the boys settled around you both; Pope settling in front of you, shoulders between your legs and head resting on you, JJ across from you trying to blow smoke rings and John B sitting beside you- resting an arm around your waist and nestling closer to you. You all laughed and joked, just enjoying eachothers company with no touron or kook action- and you felt content, this was your happy bubble; booze, weed, your best girl and your best boys. You rubbed one hand in Pope’s hair as Kie leaned in and placed a kiss on your cheek. JJ howled joking about girl-on-girl action, Kie rolled her eyes, flipping him the bird and then gripping your chin and pulling your lips to hers- kissing you gently. When she pulled back you both laughed at the shocked expressions Pope, JJ and John B were all wearing.
“Holy shit…” Pope exclaimed before putting his face in his hands. Kie laughed more raucously- she was always a happy and affectionate drunk, you never really knew what she would do next. You looked over to JJ who was smirking at you, eyes sparkling in the low light- your cheeks heating up as he watched you.
“Huh..” John B murmured, hand squeezing your waist. “On that note.. Best kiss go… !” he said pointing to Kie who giggled.
“Y/N obviously..” she laughed before moving onto wistfully talking about how every kiss was the best one- as each moment was special. Pope told you all about a touron from last summer; who stayed for a few weeks and the pair hung out ‘casually’, his eyes lingering on Kie as he spoke- not that she noticed or would remember tomorrow even if she had.
“Scarlet Masters…” JJ stated, puffing his chest and grinning like the devil. The group of you stared at him and waited for him to elaborate- his grin widened. “Couple of weeks ago, mowed her lawn- guess she wanted to see if it was true what they say about us dirty pogues…” JJ bragged cockily, leaning back and taking a toke on his Juul. John B, Kie and Pope all cheered. You just laughed rolling your eyes. John B went on to say it was, like Pope, a touron from a couple summers passed. The group turned to you- and you fried to focus. Your mind racing through memories; not that you macked on a bunch of people, but you’d had your fair share of macking- but you drew a blank, not being able to pick out one particular kiss that made you want to reminisce. So that’s what you told them; Kie looked heart broken- you thought tears would appear in her eyes soon, so you smoothed her hair out of her face and smiled gently at her, Pope shook his head wildly not wanting to believe it, JJ boo’ed at you and threw a handful of sand your way- most of it landing on Pope, John B just stared at you with an eyebrow raised. The innocent question soon turned into a game of ‘Best…’ everyone taking turns; and all too soon it was asked, ‘Best hook up’. You bit your lip and listened to them all- Pope being more shy about sharing, but he’d had a lot to drink- you could ask for anything and the kid would give it to you. JJ spoke for what felt like eternity- one ‘best’ after another. Kie spoke about the differences between partners; talking about the passion, the yearning and teasing- it almost made you blush as she spoke about the pros of sleeping with girls and boys alike. John B just said it was some rando from the mainland- not giving any details. The group then looked to you, you looked down at the sand you were burying your feet in- refusing to look at any of them as you shrugged- not wanted to say it out loud, when you looked up Kie pouted at you. You brushed your lips against her cheek in comfort.
John B looked penseive, his face carefully compromised to not reveal his thoughts. Pope looked like he wanted to interrogate you, JJ noticed this too and began to regale the group with more of his bedroom tales, Kie scoffing and throwing her empty cup towards him- before feeling guilty and going to pick it up and place it in the recycling bin close by. The part was beginning to wind down- a few other locals helping the five of you tidy up the mess you’d made. Once the beach was clean to Kie’s standards, John B lead you all back to the chateau. You had one arm wrapped around Kie’s waist- one of her wrapped around you- Pope latched onto the other side of her. John B heading up the group, a hand held out behind him holding your loosely- and JJ bringing up the rear. You turned your head to look at the blonde- he was being too quiet, you noticed he was hanging back before grinning wildly at you before charging forwards and grabbing onto your waist dragging you from Kie and John B- swinging you around until you were laughing loudly with the rest of the group after getting over the initial shock. He span you to face his back and bobbed down- beaming over his shoulder as you jumped up and got situated on his back; arms wrapping around his shoulders loosely as your face rested in the crook of his neck- his hands gripping onto the back of your thighs holding you fast to him. He ran to joi the rest of the group, John B taking your previous place next to Kie- JJ ran you both past them all. As you dashed by- you let a hand fall behind you and gripped onto the cap that was resting on John B’s wild hair- he tried to grab for it as you teased him, placing the cap on your own head in a similar fashion to how he usually wore it- blowing him a kiss and tossing him a wink JJ cheered you on. Kie and Pope laughing along. John B smiled gently at you shaking his head and ducking it down slightly.
Eventually you reached the chateau, Kie and Pope flopping onto the pull out- John B waltzing to the kitchen to grab some more beers- JJ still had you wrapped around him and he didn’t seem to mind. Traipsing round the main room with you still held tight against his back- you laughed the entire time. John B handed the beers round you all- as he passed one to JJ, who tapped on your thigh with his fingers gently you dropped from his back and went to sit on the table legs crossed shoes kicked off and sipping on your beer contentedly. John B leaned against the table next to you- leaning an elbow on your shoulder and flicked the peak of his cap smirking at you. You just grinned back. JJ flopped onto the floor in between Kie and Pope resting his head on the pull out behind him, sighing as Kie’s fingers found his hair and began twisting the tresses gently. The pogues all sat chatting idly and nursing your beers until Kie announced she was sleepy and she snuggled down further on the cushions pulling Pope with her. As she manoeuvred, she accidentally knocked JJ with her foot- he exclaimed but stood still and made his way to the bedrooms. Kie made grabby hands towards you and you smiled before dropping a kiss to hers and Pope’s foreheads- both smiling dopily and closing their eyes to sleep.
“Pssst!” John B whispered across the room, nudging his head towards the direction JJ had taken. You followed wrapping an arm around his waist you both shuffled to his room- laughing when you saw JJ sprawled on the bed. John B scoffed and hit at his foot as you leaped on the bed and got comfy. John B rolling his eyes as he joined the pair of you- the usually large enough bed soon felt cramped with all three of you situated on it. JJ twirled a piece of your hair around his finger absently as John B twiddled with the fingers on one of your hands- you all stared at the ceiling above, staring at the star charts there. You were all comfortable, chilling; all of you boosed and buzzed nicely. And you thought ‘Fuck it…’
“I want to have sex!” You announced- as soon as the words left your lips, you almost regretted them as the pair of boys both stopped their fiddling and turned to you. JJ choking on his breath, and John B raiding his eyebrows so high you wondered if they would ever settle back to their normal state. JJ coughed, trying catch his breath looked at you with wide eyes.
“What?” he asked once he had calmed down enough, you let your eyes scrunch shut. This seemed so simple earlier, when you hadn’t told them about your plan and had just decided it would happen- but now they were actually involved and it made you anxious.
“I wanna have sex…. With one of you guys. I know you’ll treat me right, and show me all the things. The sex things… I’m just sick of being horny and a virgin ya feel?” You stated your unoccupied hand coming to rest over your burning face.
“The sex things… shit…” JJ muttered one of his own hands dragging through his own hair. He couldn't take his eyes off you- his fuzzy mind trying to process what you'd just said. You felt like curling up and dying in a corner- you flushed from head to toe and desperately tried to think of a way back from this.
"What about the rules? No pogue on pogue macking.." John B murmured, his head turned fully towards you as he lifted your hands from you tomato coloured face. JJ rolled onto his side and stared at you too. You puffed out your cheeks.
"Well... it wouldn't really be macking? It’d be like when you taught me to drive the Pogue or when J taught me to surf, ya know?" You whispered, mortified. You were regretting ever bringing it up, regretting ever thinking of it in the first place, like it was a stupid idea. Of course neither of them would want to have sex with you, the rules were there for a reason- an innocent friendly peck here and there didn’t break the rules, but sex would definitely break them. You turned your head and looked at both boys, either side of you- JJ was frowning and staring at you, you tried not to shrink under his stare. John B had a poker face on- his eyes though were stormy, thoughts tumbling around his brain. You whined and rolled over onto your stomach- burying your head in the pillow. Trying to fight the stinging of your eyes- ignoring the fact that you were crying about this. Maybe that last beer was one too many.
____________________________________________________________________
At some point you must have fallen asleep, because when you next rolled over- the sun was blazing through John B’s shutters. You groaned pitifully to yourself and tried to gather the strength and will power to move from your pit of despair. A laugh from further within the building, the smell of food wafting through- urging you to move, so you did, eyes finding a discarded shirt from the floor and pulling it on to cover your body some more- your bikini top and shorts not feeling all that comfortable any longer. You waddled your way to the main room in the chateau; eyes catching on John B and JJ as they both sat up straighter when you entered. You coughed nervously and moved around the room collecting the bacon; obviously delivered from the Wreck, and a bottle of water from the fridge. You could feel their eyes following you, and the silence was setting you on edge. You turned to the boys and glanced at them, bottom lip between your teeth as you nibbled on it anxiously- wondering why they were watching you like an animal in the zoo. You took a bite of the bacon and tried not to groan at the feeling of food entering your body; you hadn’t realised how hungry you were until that point.
“Did you mean what you said last night?” JJ asked, staring you down as you choked on a mouthful of food- you coughed and spluttered as you wracked your brain trying to understand what he was asking you. It was a hazy memory, but one you couldn’t quite forget- you remembered exactly what he meant, you dropped the bacon to the plate and grabbed up your water bottle to try and take a swig. Swallowing slowly to try and sooth the irritation of your throat- your eyes fluttered around the room. JJ looked anxiously at you; his big blue eyes widened, eyebrows raised lips pouted slightly. John B leaned against the wall, hand on JJ’s shoulder- eyes sparkling but face mostly passive. You sighed running a hand through your matted hair- trying to buy yourself more time. Did you mean it, yesterday you had decided the course of action- but then when it came to telling them it felt like the earth was swallowing you up. And now- well, you weren’t sure, you knew you wanted to have sex; you had needs god damn it! But did you really need to involve the boys in your quest to pop your cherry? They didn’t give you much of a response the night before. Which made you feel worse.
“Umm… I guess. I mean I wanna have sex… but if either of you don’t want to.. then I get it, it was super weird of me to ask…” You started out strong- but their combined penetrating gaze making you feel small. JJ nodded, before looking at John B- shrugging his hand off his shoulder, he crossed the room in quick strides and grabbed you up within his arms. And before you could fully comprehend what was happening his chapped lips were pressed to your own. One hand tangling in your hair and the other pulling you close to him. You gasped into the kiss when his lips began moving against your own- his tongue swiping along your bottom lip, seeking your own. Opening up to him, he slipped his tongue to meet you, caressing over your own. Tangling in a dance that was beginning to kindle a fire within. Your hands came up to wrap around him, as one of his large hands came to hold your jaw- angling you face to deepen the kiss. You could feel the breath leaving your body, your knees weakening and a lust bubbling under your skin. The hand resting at your waist squeezed tightly- wrinkling the fabric of the soft, borrowed t-shirt you were wearing, his fingers slid towards you thigh- gently stroking over the smooth skin there- a light moan leaving your lips and JJ chuckled against you- his chest rumbling with the noise and he pulled back, leaving gentle pecks on your lips softly before pulling away completely and peering in to your breathless face. You breathed deeply, trying to regain some semblance of control- you were still wrapped around JJ as a second pair of hands tugged you away and settled you in front of their body.
You looked up into John B’s sparkling eyes, the light smirk playing on his inviting lips. You hadn’t quite wrapped your mind around what had just happened- but John B placed his hands on your hips and pulled you against him as he perched on the edge of the table; legs spread wide enough for you to stand between them- then pressed his lips against you. There was no rush; his soft lips smoothing over your own, gentle and languid- but that didn’t stop the heat bubbling under your skin. Your hands found his sun kissed tresses and you buried themsleves there, tangling within and pulling the pair of you closer. John opened his mouth- teeth nipping at your bottom lip and suckling it between his own deepening the kiss. You moaned weakly and felt you body lean more into him as the recent events and current ones took a toll on you. John B’s lazy kisses became fervent- rushed; nibbling, sucking and teasing pushing and pulling you in to him. When he pulled away as breathless as you- you frowned trying to chase his lips, wanting them back. The boys both chuckled, the rumbling sound bringing you back to reality. John B’s hands still held your hips fast to him, and one of JJ’s hands brushed your hair from your face. You took a steadying breath and forced your mind to focus- which was harder than it should be, with John B’s hands holding you tightly, his and JJ’s kiss still burning on your lips. you pushed his hands from you hips and stepped away from the pair, trying to breath calmly.
Now you had some space, you could see the pair smirking at you; eyes twinkling at you, their lips plump and looking so inviting. JJ raised a hand and his thumb rest against his bottom lip- while John B clapped his hands and rubbed them together in front of him.
“We’re in…” John B stated confidently, arms folding over his chest- JJ nodding along emphatically and grinning wide. You gasped, eyes widening and nodding- letting your mind catch up. You were still kiss drink from them, a hand raising to rest on your forehead. You looked up and stared at the boys- they just stood smirking.
“There’s gonna be some rules though; we’re both going to help you, cause you didn’t specify who.” JJ stated gesturing between them both as you stood- still shocked but nodding nonetheless.
“We’ll go at your pace, and only do things with you when you say.. yes we’re teaching you, but this is on your terms.” John B stated, gesturing to you, smirk still in place.
“We don’t tell Kie and Pope about this, obviously..” JJ shrugged his shoulders, at the mention of their names you looked towards the pull out and sighed when you saw they had already left.
“Now we need to know what exactly you do know and we can go from there..” John B winked, he moved to the pull out and flopped down onto it, JJ copying his actions before gesturing you to join them. You settled between the boys and waited, you wondered whether the booze from last night was bad or something- cause none of this was making sense.
“Do you know what gets you off?” JJ murmured in to your ear, one hand brushing your hair away from your shoulder- lips dropping a kiss there as he waited for you to respond. You looked to John B beside you, who just shrugged, eyebrow raised. You breathed deeply, JJ resting his chin on your shoulder- you knew the theory and mechanics of sex; but hadn’t put it into practice, nerves bubbled in your tummy as you continued your train of thought. You’d watched porn, and 50 shades- you had used your fingers to ease your libido- you knew how to work them to work yourself to orgasm. But you’d never been touched by another person in that way and you’d never touched another in that way.
“I’ve watched porn before…” You mumbled, cheeks blazing- JJ buried his head in your neck, gently pecking the area. John B traced a finger up your thigh before dropping his hand on it and squeezing gently.
“It’s not realistic.. but a good place to start kinda..” the brunette murmured softly. “Have you ever gotten yourself off?” he asked, a delicate blush covering his tan cheeks- you on the other hand burned with embarrassment and the earlier lust beginning to trickle throughout again. You could only nod.
“That’s good, you know what you like, you can teach us how..” JJ whispered, his lips brushing the shell of your ear, sending shivers through you- the boys both chuckling at your response. The blonde dropping a kiss to your neck and shoulder again before standing up and high-fiving John B- he winked at you and left the chateau- you and the Routledge boy alone- the silence within almost deafening. John B squeezed your thigh gently, ducking his head slightly to be face-to-face with you.
“You wanna try something now?” he whispered- watching as you bit into your bottom lip and nodded. He lurched forward and attached your lips together once more. He wasn’t slow and relaxed this time, he instantly pried your lips apart with his tongue and tangled it with yours. Kissing into you passionately, gently nudging you back to lie on the pull out- he hovered over you, pulling from your lips to kiss around your mouth, then lower discovering you neck like an unmapped land. You moaned as his teeth nipped at your skin- you could feel the grin he wore as he continued to assault your neck. He let one hand hold your jaw, and pulled back- he manoeuvred the pair of you to sit once more, his other arm trailing and resting around your waist- squeezing and lifting you until you were somehow straddling him. You whimpered as he sucked and nipped playfully at you neck. You pulled back to stare at him; he was smiling wolfishly, eyes ablaze, lips kiss-swollen and cheeks dusted with a blush as he stared back at you. You untangled his hand from you hair- ghosting over your neck and the light marks he’d left- grin widening slightly- before plucking gently at the t-shirt you were wearing.
“Looks good on you..” he whispered, grin still in place- he was breathing deeply, and you took a moment to eye his torso; abs working slightly as he breathed quickly. He tilted your chin up and kissed you again- this time with no rush, it was languid and arousal seared through your entirety. His hands took up residence on your thighs, calloused fingers brushing the skin, pushing the large t-shirt up, you whimpered against his lips. He felt so good against you- soft lips kissing against you, hard muscle supporting you- your hand trailed to rest on his chest, it flexing against you hat palm- his skin hotter beneath it. Your body reacting to his lightest of touches- lips fusing together, panting into eachother’s mouths, as neither of you wanted to part. Your hips twitched on top of him, a shock running through your body as he moaned as the contact of your clothed cores rubbing a delicious friction for you both. He gripped onto your hips, fingers digging in, in an enticing manner; he held your hips and guided you over him. Grinding you on top of him, your whines and moans echoing throughout the chateau- his matching sounds slightly quieter than yours. As your body moved and rubbed against him in a tantalising way, one of his hands raised to traced the curve of your body- fingers spreading wide and resting over your ribs, just underneath your breast- thumb gently running along the bottom of you bikini top teasingly.
Your hand found his and cupped it around you, encouraging him to squeeze and tease you. He didn’t disappoint; squeezing gently, exploring the area, letting his fingers tease you hard nipple- pinching and flicking it. All the while your hips worked furiously against him, there was a pressure building within as you could feel him hard beneath; through your clothes, the material rubbing right against you clit in a maddening way. You worked your hips with more fervour focus, you could feel that overwhelming knot tying and twisting tightly within- fraying until it snapped, your climax washing over you forcefully. You moaned and buried your head in the crook of his neck- he panted beneath you, the pair of you trying to catch your breath and calm your racing hearts. The fire within you only burned on, as you could still feel him pressing against you harshly- you began moving your hips, slowly, you were sensitive and knew a second release wouldn’t take long. But John B gripped your hips tightly and stopped you movements, shaking his head.
“No, no, no- this is all for you okay? Don’t worry about me…” he chuckled, his voice deeper than normal- making you want to grip his head and kiss him into oblivion, you restrained yourself as he helped you to sit beside him. Wrapping an arm around your shoulders and pulling you in close to him. You two stayed cuddled together long after your racing hearts had calmed and you breathing had returned to normal, eventually he stood from the pull out, tugging you with him and leading you to his room before traipsing to the bathroom by himself. Your eyes caught on the bulge in his shorts making you blush- one he spotted and sent a wink to you. You laid in his bed and tried to wrap your mind around the happenings of the day. When John B appeared again, he had a towel slung low on his hips- making your mouth go dry, he searched for clothes and explained that you’d stop by your place to change and then you were going to meet the others for a day on the boat as usual. You nodded, more focused on watching him cover up his still damp body with an unbuttoned shirt, board shorts, backwards cap, converse and his ever present bandanna tied around his neck. He looked over to you, chuckling as he clocked the mark on your own neck, grabbing another bandanna; he tied it around your throat like his own. Dropping a kiss to the corner of your lips, smirking when he pulled away. He dragged you out of the chateau and to the parked bus- ready to start your day even though it was nearing the afternoon by this point. You both got settled in the Twinkie before setting off.
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
“You alright?” Somi asked gently, watching me fling  my backpack into the corner of the room with enough force to dislodge one of the wooden panels on the wall, the shelf crashing and bringing down the two potted plants on it. The sound of ceramic shattering made me wince, regret churning in my stomach.
“Yeah...yeah. Oh, God. I’m so sorry, Somi.. I broke your pots-”
“Never mind the pots...why do you look so upset? Have you been crying?” She demanded , reaching for me, hands curling around my wrists and drawing me into a hug and I swallowed, my throat dry and eyes swollen from all the tears that I’d wrung out of them.
Outside the room, Namjoon stood guard, at the door and I felt guilty remembering how the past three hours had gone.
After confronting Jungkook, I’d stormed off in righteous indignation and poor Namjoon had been forced to follow.
He had kept a discreet distance as I climbed to the tallest ridge on the roof, scaling the gables with ease and I knew he had been terrified at the prospect of me falling.
Immortal or not a three hundred foot drop to the ground would be something that would hurt.
And it was my bodyguard’s job to make sure I did not get hurt.
When he wasn’t busy fucking other women that is.
I gripped my sister harder, fingers curling into the fir of her coat as I tried to catch my bearing.
“Do you know Helena?” I whispered, pulling away to look at her. Somi’s face fell,eyes filling with sympathy.
“Oh, no. Was she here?” She asked gently, reaching out and cupping my cheeks and my lips wobbled.
“Why didn’t you warn me that he was in a relationship?” my voice shook and Somi shook her head.
“He’s not!! God, Helena doesn’t do relationships. Jungkook and her.... well, I’m not sure but they’re just fuck buddies..... barely that. You know she’s from the Kim clan right? Those bloodsuckers never settle for one partner. “ She muttered.
I stared at her.
“He called me a child and then told me he’ll tell dad if i try to make a move on him.” I whispered.
Somi flinched.
“Sera....”
“It was humiliating and painful and I don’t ever want to think about it, ever again.” I muttered.
She sighed.
“It’s not like you don’t have men dying for a glance from you, Sera. You forget that you’re literally the most beautiful woman in the clan. If he rejects you, you’re definitely not the one missing out in that equation.”
I nodded, misery seeping into me. My sob-fest on the roof hadn’t been wasted. I was angry at first but now, a sort of resigned acceptance had taken the place of my anger.
 The look on Jungkook’s face had been too real, the emotion behind his rejection too potent for me to get over. I wasn’t sure I could change his mind.
Wasn’t even sure if I wanted to.
“Was he very hurtful ? You know, if you tell dad, he’ll hire someone else and-”
“No.” I said immediately. “ I won’t do that. It’s not his fault, it’s minge. I acted out like a...well a child to be honest. He doesn’t owe me anything and he’s always been obvious in his disinterest. I was just too blinded my own attraction to consider that it wasn’t reciprocated.” I grimaced.
God, I’d been an idiot and Jungkook’s words had knocked some good sense into my head. But I did care for him and his son and they needed this job. I wouldn’t put his job in jeopardy just because I didn’t get my way.
I was better than that.
“Alright... Dad wanted to meet you for breakfast tomorrow.... He sounded serious. Do you know what that’s about?”
I groaned, when I remembered the reason my dad wanted to see me these days.
“Dad wants me to start meeting men now. He thinks I’m old enough now that i’ve turned 21. He’s been badgering me for a whole entire month but I kept putting him off because of...well, because of Jungkook.” I admitted.
Somi looked worried.
“You want to ? If you don’t we can talk to dad and-”
“No-” I shook my head.” I’m just gonna agree.”
Somi looked surprised.
“Are you sure? Sera you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to-”
I smiled weakly.
“I’m not going to be allowed to stay single forever Somi. Especially not when the entirety of dad’s day is spent trying to chase suitors away from the door. Do you know the Count from Jeju Do...dude’s a whole seven centuries old and he looks like a toad. He apparently tried to ask about me and Dad’s been freaking out.  “ I shuddered.
Somi laughed.
“ That’s what you get for being you. But dad’s right. Keeping you away from everyone is only inviting more interest. And we don’t want you to be with someone insufferable.” She ruffled my hair and I hugged her again sighing into her shoulders.
No I didn’t want to be with someone who just saw me as some kind of a possession to be owned. I wanted someone nice and kind. A handsome man who did the right thing .  Someone who maybe, worked hard to give his kid a safe and protected life, someone who didn’t shun away from hard work and was a gentleman as well.
Someone like-
“Someone other than Jungkook.” Somi said gently reading my mind.
“I really liked him.” I whispered softly, feeling tears spring again.
God, I thought I was all out of tears for Jeon Jung Kook but apparently I was wrong.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I took extra care with my makeup the next morning, because my father usually had a ton of business meetings during his breakfast. I didn’t usually bother but , I was going to agree to his suggestions today and well, nothing wrong in delighting my father. And nothing made him happier than seeing me prance about  with pretty feminine clothes .
My dad, for all his jovial cheerful air, loved his position as the head of the Hwang clan. And as his most prized possession , I was the apple of his eye. And while he didnt treat me as an object or anything ( my dad loved me deeply and his affection was always evident. ) , there was no mistaking the fact that my dad enjoyed the power that came with being my guardian. Powerful men were willing to bend to his will, just for a chance to be with me.
I sound insufferable, don’t I?
Trust me I’m not.
The vampires that court me are usually assholes. Entitled, brain dead assholes .  When I opened the door in the morning, dressed in a short summer dress and ready to meet my dad, I was surprised to see Jungkook standing guard outside. He straightened away from the wall where he was fiddling with his phone, his gaze flitting to me, eyes cold and blank.
I bowed lightly, not smiling.
“Mr. Jeon. I have a breakfast date with my father and then I’ll be heading to the cottage. I’m also meeting a friend of mine at the Art Museum in the evening so i’ll need the Mercedes brought around to pick me up maybe at 5.00PM.” I said briskly, glancing at him.
My face flamed red when I noticed his gaze, fixed steadily on my ass. I cleared my throat angrily and his eyes met mine, a slow lazy grin playing around his mouth.
“You look different.” He commented , shamelessly giving me another once over.
The nerve.
I swallowed, willing myself not to blush harder.
“I’m sure I don’t know what you mean.”
He chuckled.
“That dress barely covers your butt, angel. You sure you want to head to daddy dearest, dressed like that?” The way he said daddy made my skin heat up.
I felt my jaw come unhinged.
“That’s...that is none of your damn business.” I said shrilly.
He gave me another once over.
“Okay, then. If that’s what you’re into...fine. Let’s go.”
Gritting my teeth, i tried to keep my face neutral. I would not give him the satisfaction of knowing that he got to me. I would not.
I walked ahead of him , my fists clenched and my jaw tight and I felt incredibly upset because the day had barely begun and I was already wound tight. I was supposed to be relaxed and clear headed while talking to my father but Jeon Jungkook had muddled my brains as usual.
I took deep breaths, trying to calm myself down.
“Sera, wait.” His voice made me pause and I stopped, turning around to glare at him.
“What?” I snapped.
He sighed, deeply. I watched as he ran his hands through his hair, tongue pressing into his cheek the way it did when he was upset.
“About last night-”
I felt my pulse quicken.
“I don’t wanna talk about it!” I said quickly, turning back around to leave but his fingers came around my arm, gripping hard .
“Well tough luck. Because I do!” He said sharply.
I whimpered, pain blooming up my arm and he swore, loosening his grip.
“I keep forgetting you’re human.” He muttered, “ I’m sorry... I just... I wanted to apologize for how i handled things last night. I was twenty once and I should have been more understanding.”
I closed my eyes. Oh, God no. Please, please for the love of God, let me hate you in peace. Don’t apologize and make me fall in love all over again.
“Its fine.” I choked out. “ You were right. I was out of line.”
“You deserve better.” He said quickly, eyes flitting away from my face and I felt a sharp pang in my heart. God , this was agonizing.
“Jungkook-”
“It’s just that you’re...well you know who you are. You can’t be with ...someone like me and trust me you don’t want to be with someone like me either. I know its appealing, the whole illusion of stability. older man, has a kid, has his life together .....but that’s not all it means .” He gave me a tired smile.
I bit my lips, ot replying and he went on.
 “ I have baggage, a shit ton of it and I would have to be especially cruel to unload something like that on a girl barely out of her teens. I’ve done shit I’m not proud of ,....but ruining your life, I’m gonna draw the line there.” He smiled , looking a whole decade younger and I closed my eyes.
I was back to square one, I thought miserably. He had my whole heart.
“ So we’re good right?” He prompted and I exhaled, giving him a smile.
“We’re good.”
“That’s good. Because my son loves you and I would rather we be friends. You’re just like a daughter to me. ” He touched my face gently, pulling away at once, the small contact leaving fire in its wake and I had to clench my fists .
A daughter?!! Is he out of his damned mind?
“Okay.”
“Let’s go then.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Jungkook, please sit down. You’re like my son and I don’t want you hovering like you’re part of the backdrop. I’ve trusted you with my entire life.” My father beamed, pointing at me and i laughed.
Jungkook bowed respectfully, taking the chair next to me.
“How are you , my buttercup?” My father asked softly, fingers gripping mine and I smiled.
“I’m well, father. Do you like my dress?”
Next to me Jungkook coughed and I shot him a dirty look.
“It looks ravishing on you. The prettiest flower in my estate is my daughter, do you agree Jungkook?” My father prompted and I swallowed the smirk that threatened.
Poor Jungkook was going to learn that being my bodyguard meant singing my praises twenty four seven or at least anytime my father was in hearing distance.
“Uh..” Jungkook’s eyes flitted between the two of us, “ Yes sir. Your daughter is quite lovely.”
I beamed at him and he looked away quickly.
Coward.
Turning back to my dad I held my hand out.
“DAd, you wanted to see me about something?”
“Yes dearest. You know the Kim clan’s matriarch has been after me. Three of her great great great grandsons have come of age recently. And all three of them are set to take over some very lucrative businesses. They are good men and apparently they’re quite smitten with you. They say you know of them from school?”
I sighed.
“Do you know their names?” I prompted.
“Mingyu, Minjae and Yugyeom.” My father said briskly.
 Ugh.
 “ They’ve asked me out before, yes.”
“Uh..Excuse me.. Could I get a refill?” Jungkook said quietly next to me and i turned, watching him wave to one of the footmen.
“Jungkook, are you thirsty?” My father asked brightly.
An idea formed in my head, wicked and dangerous.
“Perhaps, he should get a taste of the Hwang Elixir?” I said innocently.
My father’s gaze snapped to mine.
A small frown made its way to his face.
“Are you sure? I’m not sure if Jungkook would be comfortable-”
I turned to him, purposely flipping my long hair off my shoulders exposing my throat . Jungkook’s eyes went to the curve of my neck at once and i felt a sick sort of triumph when his eyes flashed red.
“Oh, no no...” I crooned, leaning in closer. “ I’m sure you aren’t uncomfortable , are you Jungkook ssi? After all, I am just like a daughter to you , aren’t I?” I stared right at him, fluttering my lashes and I saw his jaw clench.
“Of course, Ms. Hwang.” He said briskly, glaring at me. I played with the small gold chain around my neck, letting my fingers flutter over my pulse , drawing his gaze there.
“Well, that is true ...” My father looked uncertain, but I gave him a gentle nod and a smile.
“Well, as a special guest, I suppose you can enjoy our hospitality , Jeon. Why don’t you take a drink from -”
I moved closer, pressing up against him and Jungkook sighed, lips closing over my neck, and I felt my eyes flutter shut at the wet warmth of his mouth .
It was intoxicating, the way he used one hand to grip my neck gently, the other on my waist to steady me and when his fangs pierced through, I could sense the warm liquid flood his mouth and Jungkook’s entire body relaxed, a strangled moan escaping him.
“---my daughter’s wrist.” My father finished and I felt Jungkook stiffen next to me.
This time I couldn’t stop the grin that bloomed on my face.
My eyes dropped to his lap and yup, his pants definitely looked a tad tighter.
“Did I do good, Mr Jeon? Or should I call you daddy? ” I whispered quietly , fluttering my lashes at him and his fangs retracted and he pulled away from me, shoving me back into my own chair quickly.
My father was slightly slack jawed.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Hwang. “ Jungkook muttered and I laughed.
“I do believe it is I whom you should be apologizing to. It is  my  neck you just mauled. ” I smiled brightly staring at Jungkook and if looks could kill, I would have a thousand wooden stakes through my heart right about now. ‘
Take that Mr. Jeon.
Daughter, my ass.
“My apologies , Sera.” He said stiffly.
My father laughed raucously.
“Ahh, you must be used to the neck, my dear boy. understandable understandable. it is how we used to do it in the old days, after all . These younglings with all their etiquette and feminism and what not....it’s hard to keep up..... But now you must tell me? Is my daughter not the sweetest you’ve ever had?”
I choked, coughing. Oh God, sometimes my 900 year old father had no idea how he sounded.
Jungkook looked like he had swallowed a lemon.
“She’s certainly ...” He stopped, probably realizing that any adjective at the end of that sentence would sound entirely wrong.
“Delicious?” I prompted, blinking innocently and Jungkook shot me another glare.
“Well, nevermind nevermind. .... So, tell me dearest, will you be willing to meet the Kim boys?”
I sighed.
“I like Yugyeom. I cannot stand Minjae. I don’t know enough about Mingyu to make any judgement. How about I meet Mingyu and if I don’t hit it off with him, I will allow Yugyeom to court me....” I said softly.
I glanced at Jungkook but he was studiously looking away.
“Very well my dear. Do you have any plans today?”
“I’m meeting a friend at the museum.”
My father’s eyes widened.
“Well isn’t that a wonderful coincidence. Mingyu's law firm is just a block away if I’m not mistaken. I’ll ask the boy to pick you up afterwards. Have dinner with him and you can tell me tonight of your choice.” My father smiled briskly.
“Yes, father.”
“Jungkook..” My father prompted and the vampire glanced up.
“Yes, sir?”
“Take good care of her. At the restaurant, make sure you stay at hearing distance. “
“Yes sir.” Jungkook bowed and I groaned.
In other words, let my father know if I behaved appropriately.
i pouted and my father waggled his finger at me.
“No, no no.. Missy. I’m going to make sure you keep your end of the bargain . You need to give these men a proper chance before you reject them. “
I nodded.
“And you must ask Either Somi or Seolhyun to dress you. No jeans or one of those ridiculous gowns that make you look like a pastry.”
There was no mistaking the snort that came from my right and i glared at Jungkook before turning to my dad.
“Yes, father.”
“Good, now run along the pair of you. “
I stood up, kissing my father fondly on his forehead.
“I love you.” I whispered.
“You are my whole entire joy, dearest. “ He kissed my hand gently, eyes warm and soft.
As we left the room, Jungkook let out a sigh.
“I am never having a meal with you two again.” He ground out and I laughed.
“Anything you say, daddy.” I grinned.
Jungkook groaned.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As luck would have it,  my friend cancelled .
So at six the evening, I finished locking up the cottage as the last of the kids left, fumbling with the lock while a tired Joo Won napped in his father’s arms, head resting on Jungkook’s shoulders. I felt myself soften at the picture they made, Jungkook singing softly , fingers brushing his son’s hair back as he rocked him gently.
“I’ll be a while... I needed to get ready. Why don’t you put him to bed? Who’s watching him tonight?”
“Hwasa and Moonbyul offered. I’ll drop you off in your room and head to the north wing. What time are you meeting the jerkwad?” He said casually.
I blinked rapidly, confused.
“I’m sorry... the jerkwad?”
Jungkook shrugged.
“It’ just a fact. Most men are absolute jerks at twenty one.” He shrugged.
i felt myself bristling on behalf of the unknown Mingyu.
“That is absolutely unfair. My brothers were incredibly kind and good.”
“To you perhaps. Because they don’t have to impress you. But men act differently when they’re trying to get between a woman’s thighs. They’re jerks when they want to get laid...” He grinned.
“Is that why you act like a jerk to me? ” I smiled evilly and he rolled his eyes.
“Oh, darling we both know I don’t have to act in any different way to get you into my bed . I just have to do this.” He smirked, curling his finger in a come hither gesture.
I felt my pulse pound and I tried not to let his words get to my head. He was flirting , yes but it was a joke. He was joking with me because the very idea of being with me was a joke to him.
And I couldn’t forget that.
Rolling my eyes, I pulled on the lock a couple more times to make sure the door was well locked.
“Shall we leave?” He prompted watching me wrestle the backpack onto my shoulders. I grunted under the weight.
“Of course. Let’s go.”
We walked in silence for a few seconds.
“So, how’s he doing? With stuff?” Jungkook asked gently and I felt warmth bloom in my chest.
“He’s very advanced for his age Jungkook. You’ve done a wonderful job with him. He’s able to read and he has a beautiful l writing hand. He’s learned his multiplication tables all the way up to seven and he has the voice of an angel. Which I think he gets from you. ” I smiled, reaching out to brush the back of Joowon’s head.
Jungkook smiled softly, the late evening sun painting his perfect features in a soft golden glow.
“Your father was kind enough to support me the first few years when i had him. I didn’t trust anyone enough to leave him with them and well... i needed to put a roof over our head.” He sighed .
I touched his arm, giving it a small squeeze.
“I understand. I’m glad you’re here. He’ll grow up well in our clan.   “
“And he has a lot of excellent men to look up to here...He needs a good role model, someone kind and amazing who can inspire him to be hardworking and fair. ” He smiled.
I bit my lips.
“I think he’s had that all along. ” I said quietly.
Jungkook’s breath caught for a second and the air between us changed. I licked my lips.
“Jungkook you’re a good father. You know that right?” I said after a few more seconds of silence.
He laughed.
“Am I really? I wonder.”
“He loves you.” I breathed , “  You’re all he talks about.... Today, one of the other kids tried to say that his father was brave because he helped someone who was stuck in an elevator. you know what Joowon did? He listed some twenty different incidents where you’ve helped people out....And he looked so proud.”
Jungkook’s ear looked red in the brightly lit garden.
“i was just doing my job. Most of those times, I was in danger.” He grunted.
“And yet, you did the right thing. “ I whispered. “ And your son was watching. And he’s learned the importance of doing the right thing even when you’re scared. That’s a life lesson that isn’t easy to learn.”
“Can’t disagree with that.” He chuckled. I grabbed his arm forcing him to stop.
I had to tell him this.
 “ Jungkook, when immortality is on the plate, people don’t give much value to morals. They don’t always care about doing the right thing.... . Its how our kind functions. Consequences don’t mean much when you have a whole eternity to fix your mistakes.....So I always admire vampires who value morals. “ I smiled, “ To see a five year old with such a well formed moral compass... it tells me that you’re an amazing father. Possibly the best I’ve ever met. “ I reached out, to hold his hand, wanting to touch him in some way, to make him believe that I was completely honest.
“Sera!!!!!!” My sister’s voice made me jump and Jungkook stepped away as well.
“Dad told me you’re going on a date? I’ve picked out an outfit for you!! But you need to take a shower! You cannot show up smelling like diapers and spit-up.” She called.
I groaned.
“Time for the ugly duckling to transform into a swan, I see?” He said gently.
“Your son’s favorite fairytale.” I whispered.
“He makes me read it every night.”
“I would like to sit in on that someday.” I laughed.
His eyes met mine.
“You’re always welcome, Ms Hwang,” He smiled politely. “ Someday soon maybe your kids and my son would be friends.”
And just like that the wall grew between us.
His kids and my kids.
Not our kids because he wasn’t for me.
He would never be for me.
I felt the sudden inexplicable urge to cry.
Turning away, I began following my sister as she waved to me. .
“I’ll be at your door at seven.” He called out behind me.

You hated winter.
You supposed people found something magical about the view of fluffy white flakes catching the light as they drifted down from the sky and created a thick white blanket across the ground and trees. However, the fairy tale description was only true when observed from the other side of a window where the protection of four walls and a fireplace could block out the harsh reality.
“Don’t forget the shopping on your way back.” Your grandmother’s raspy voice cuts through the morning silence as you go through the tedious process of bundling up against the frigid weather you knew you’d be facing as soon as you stepped outside. The elderly woman was sitting in her favorite spot on the sofa, lap covered by one of the many blankets she’d made over the years. You grandfather shuffled into the room as if on cue with two piping hot mugs of tea. He hands one to his wife before settling happily into the place next to her.
“I never do.” Your words come out harsher than you’d intended, but your grandparents pay you no mind. They were either used to your attitude or too wrapped up in their own happily ever after. You finish off your ridiculously bulky outfit by shoving a knit cap over your head and then heading out into the cold.
You hated your job
You knew you should be grateful that you had the luxury of owning an apothecary. It was the type of establishment that would never want for business. There was also a certain pride in being able to provide people with medicines to relieve them of their aches and pains, allergies, and illnesses. The difficulty was in being surrounded by the memories of your parents and the perfect life they’d lived, as well as the constant reminder that you’d been robbed of the chance to experience that type of fantasy.
Trudging through the deep wet snow had made you a few minutes late, and there were already a few customers waiting outside the tiny shop you’d inherited by the time you arrived. You apologize politely as you unlock the door and let them inside, shedding the layers of your winter clothes as quickly as you can so that you can get to work. It was always a little busier in the winter months, but finding the right remedy for each person was something you’d gotten good at over time. Most customers came and went without much trouble, but assisting the regulars who’d known you since childhood was always a bit awkward. You did your best not to notice the pity and judgement on their faces as you prepared their orders with the same forced pleasantness as you did for everyone else.
You hated shopping
Having a job that earned enough wages to properly provide for yourself and your family was a blessing most people in your city could not enjoy. Your parents had always made sure to remind you of that fact whenever they came home with baskets full of fresh fruits and vegetables, cheese, bread, and sometimes even meat. As an adult, you still appreciated the fact that you did not have to know hunger, but it was always such a hassle to deal with the crowded market after getting off work.
When your parents had been alive, they had loved going out to run these types of errands together. It had always surprised you how they would choose to spend more time together even after living and working with each other every single day. They never seemed to get tired of each other, and you could remember vividly the way they’d smiled at each other with pure happiness and love in their gaze. It was hard to forget when you saw the same blissful look on every couple you happened to encounter as you went about your day. It made you feel so incredibly alone sometimes, but you did your best to bury those emotions deep down out of fear that they would consume you completely.
“How much is the bread today?” You ask the baker once you make it to the counter through the throngs of people. He tells you the price and begins to wrap up your order when you agree to it.
“You’re lucky,” he tells you conversationally. “This is the last loaf of the day.”
“Tch!” A frustrated sound comes from behind you and you turn around instinctively to make sure nothing was wrong. Standing next to you was a grouchy looking man with silky black hair, styled in an undercut. The long, soft looking strands on the top of his head came down to frame his face, drawing attention to the most important feature; his eyes. You notice right away they are both the identical shade of gray, which told you a lot about him already.
“Were you waiting in line?” You ask curiously even though meeting his sharp gaze directly was a bit intimidating. He regards you critically for a moment before sighing and looking away, probably forming his own judgments based on the incorrect story told by your own eyes.
“It’s fine,” his tone of voice is flat and a little dismissive. “I should’ve gotten here earlier.” He turns to walk away but something makes you call out to stop him.
“Wait,” you give him the friendliest smile you can muster before looking to the baker. “Please, wrap this up for him instead. I insist.” The baker shrugs, not really bothered by the change as long as he got his payment. The scowl on the man’s face gave way to surprise, and you thought the softer look suited him much better. You could see that he was preparing to reject your kindness, so you mutter a quick goodbye before turning away and blending in with the crowd.
You hated your eyes
In the world you lived in, everything revolved around a person’s eyes. They were more than just a mere window into the soul, they were also a glimpse into the future. As a child, you could recall the excitement of your friends as they studied the mismatched colors of each other’s irises, speculating wildly about which shade truly belonged to them and which was borrowed from a stranger that they were destined to meet sometime in the future. Their enthusiasm had been contagious in the beginning, and you’d enjoyed listening to people discuss their predictions about the background, appearance, and personality of their future partner.
“Did you get everything on the list?” Your grandfather asks as he takes the basket of food from you once you finally return home. The walk back from the market had been miserable. Your feet were cold and wet from sloshing through the snow, but the rest of you was warm and sweaty from the exertion of hauling the purchases all the way back while wearing so many thick layers.
“They were out of bread,” You inform him while shrugging out of your coat. A look of displeasure passed over his face but vanished just as quickly when your grandmother called to him from the kitchen. You were relieved that she was volunteering to make dinner this time, because the exhaustion from your day was starting to catch up with you.
You head into the bathroom, ready to warm up with a hot shower and put on a fresh pair of clothes while the meal was prepared. As you wait for the water from the tap to heat up, you catch a glimpse of your reflection in the mirror. Usually you avoided looking at your face for too long, but every now and then you decided to stare back at yourself for a moment. You frown as you meet the gaze of the two identical eyes that you’d be born with. They looked mockingly back at you from the glass, their dull gray hue like a running joke that you’d never found remotely funny.
Washing away the grime of the day helped clear your head of negative thoughts, and soon your mind drifted back to the man you’d helped at the market. The memory of his eyes reminded you that you had made the right decision. He was the one who had someone important waiting for him back at home, possibly even children that needed to be fed and taken care of. You and your grandparents would be just fine as you always had, even if there was a spark of jealousy in you that the man got to have the type of wholesome future that you could never enjoy.
You hated soulmates
The idea of having the comfort of knowing there was someone out there born specifically to fill your life with joy, support, and love was an overwhelming one. It was hard for you to really imagine what it must be like for people to be filled with that nervous anticipation every time they got the opportunity to meet someone new. You’d had secondhand experiences as you watched friends and acquaintances around you find their destinies in one another, but while those meetings spelled out the beginning of something wonderful for them, it only served to make you feel the bleakness of your situation more profoundly.
It was extremely rare for someone to be born without a soulmate, and although your parents tried to have a positive outlook, you had still felt the stigma associated with your condition every single day of your life. It had been impossible to escape the stares and gasps of astonishment from both adults and children alike during you school-age years. Most of them had never seen a child your age with two of the same colored eyes, so it was inevitable that you’d garnered quite a bit of unwanted attention. The people you met were merely curious at first, but as you got older the intrigue turned to pity.
As hard as it was to deal with the people around you who knew the truth, meeting strangers was almost worse. Those who still walked around with duel colored eyes held little interest in someone who had seemingly already found their partner, and everyone else was too preoccupied with their own established lives to pay attention to you at all. In the world you lived in, everything revolved around a person’s eyes. Unfortunately, your eyes had landed you into one of the loneliest roles imaginable.
You hated your luck
It should not have surprised you as much as it did when the man from the market walked into your apothecary a few days later, but considering the fact he’d been popping up in your thoughts sporadically ever since the first meeting, it certainly caught you off guard to see his face again. By the way his familiar gray eyes widened upon seeing you standing behind counter, you guessed he hadn’t been expecting to see you again either.
“Hello again,” you smile awkwardly to try and clear the air. You weren’t sure if it would be weird to mention the bread incident or not.
“Hello,” the man nods, his facial features relaxing into a neutral expression. You were glad he didn’t seem to be as agitated as he’d been in the market. “I’m looking for something that might help my mother. She’s recently fallen ill and nothing I do seems to be helping.”
“What are her symptoms?” The question falls naturally from your lips. As the man describes his mother’s condition, you find yourself taking in his appearance in more detail. His black hair looked as soft as you remembered, but now you were noticing other things like the shape of his nose and sharp angle of his jawline. The clothes he wore were on the nicer side, and it made you wonder what he did for a living. His stature was a bit on the shorter side, and although his build was lean, you got the impression that he was healthy and strong.
“Well, it seems like she may have caught a flu,” you explain once the man finishes speaking. You turn to grab a few items from the shelf behind you and place them on the counter. “These should work to control the symptoms and reduce her fever until her body is able to fight off the infection.”
“Thank you,” he sounds genuine as he pulls out some money to pay for the medicine. You accept the payment, taking note of his long, elegant hands and fingers.
“Not at all,” you assure him with an easy smile. “I hope your mother recovers quickly.”
The man nods in gratitude while scooping up the goods he’d purchased in his hands. He seemed to hesitate for a moment before looking back up to catch your gray eyes with his own.
“My name’s Levi, by the way.” The confidence in his voice did not match the anxious set of his features. “We didn’t get to have a proper introduction the other day.”
“O-oh,” there was no way to conceal the shock you felt in that moment. It was out of the ordinary for anyone to give you their name, especially a man who had obviously had his encounter with fate already. You manage to stutter out your own name, wondering if you were having some sort of intensely realistic dream as you watch the man’s lips twitch into the smallest, briefest of smiles.
“A pleasure to meet you,” he repeats your name to himself thoughtfully. “Have a nice day.” With all his business with you completed, he nods his head and exits your shop, leaving you to try and tame the wild racing of your thoughts and heart.
You hated false hope
It was embarrassing how often you had to remind yourself over the next few days that a person simply introducing themselves to you should not be taken as anything more than polite kindness. You had seemingly lost all control of your mind and feelings though, since scarcely a moment went by now without thoughts of Levi sending butterflies fluttering around in your stomach. It didn’t seem fair that you knew so little about him, but you understood that you’d have to be content with the memory of his ghost of a smile and the echo of the way your name had sounded as it escaped his lips. Part of you hoped you’d never see the man again so that you could get over your delusions as quickly and easily as possible, but another part of you longed to bump into him again.
“What are you doing in here?” Your grandmother walked into the bathroom to find you leaning over the sink, eyes wide open and focused so intensely on your reflection in the mirror that you hadn’t even heard her approach.
“Huh?” you whirl around to face her, finally blinking once you realized how tired your eyes were from the thorough examination you’d just given them. “What did it feel like after you met Grandpa?”
Your stomach sank immediately at the pitying look that grew on the old woman’s face. She reaches out to rub your arm sympathetically with a sad smile. “I’m so sorry sweetie,” is all she tells you before changing the subject completely. “Excuse me now, I need to use the restroom.”
“Right, sorry.” You offer a dry laugh as you move out of her way, reality rushing back like a harsh slap to the face. You’d known all along that you’d never really have a soulmate, but it was hard not to have grasped on to the small shred of a possibility. It hadn’t slipped your attention that Levi also had gray eyes, but plenty of people had the same or similar shade. Besides, the likeliness of soulmates having the same exact eye color was even rarer than someone being born without a soulmate at all. You vowed to keep these cold hard truths at the forefront of your mind from now on, and resigned yourself completely to the fate you’d been dealt.
You loved Levi
It had been a whole week since you’d given up the last loaf of bread that had sent your life into a strange whirlwind of new, unexplored emotions. The days between then and the present had been interesting indeed, but now you were determined to go back to life as normal. The weather wasn’t so terrible today, but you still bundled up to prepare yourself for the cold morning walk to the Apothecary. You arrived at the shop with plenty of time to remove the layers of winter clothes and do a quick inventory of items you’d soon need to restock.
It was around lunchtime when you really started to relax back into your routine. The steady flow of customers had helped to keep your mind occupied, and once things slowed down around midday, you picked up a rag and began to wipe down the counters and windows absentmindedly. The sound of the bell above the door alerted you to someone’s arrival and you quickly tossed down the rag and turned to greet them. Once again, you find yourself startled to be standing in the presence of the man from the market.
“Levi,” you mutter his name before shaking out of your daze. “Excuse me,” you look down and apologize in embarrassment. “Um, can I help you with something? Is your mother feeling better?”
“She’s much better, yes. Thank you.” Levi clears his throat awkwardly and you can’t help but think his posture is stiffer than you remember. You wonder again what he did for a living because he seemed to be a bit overdressed for a simple trip to the apothecary. He looked incredibly handsome in any case, and it was doing nothing to help quiet your wandering imagination.
“I’m glad to hear that,” you weren’t sure what else to say. You walk over to the small faucet behind the counter to wash your hands since you’d just been cleaning. The silence between you both grew more and more uncomfortable until Levi’s face suddenly contorts with frustration. You open your mouth to apologize for whatever you’d done but he cuts you off by coming forward suddenly and placing both hands on the counter.
“Your eyes,” he forces out the words before averting his own gaze. Any hope of keeping yourself grounded in reality seemed to go up in smoke as your heart rate kicked into overdrive.
“Yes?” you say breathlessly and the fact that you weren’t kicking him out for being incredibly inappropriate was enough to spur him on with whatever point he was trying to get to.
“How long?” he swallows thickly and takes a deep breath, “How long since they’ve changed?”
“They’ve always been this way,” it should’ve been harder to admit, but the way Levi was acting was distracting you from the shame you’d normally be feeling. A soft sound, like an intrigued sigh, escapes his lips and he covers his mouth with those beautiful long fingers you’d been trying not to think about. All you can do is stare at him as he comes to terms with the information you’d just revealed. You wondered why he’d even want to know and what he would do now that the truth was out in the open. Finally, after an unbearable stretch of time, Levi lowers his hand back onto the counter, revealing a faint but amused looking smile.
“Well,” his confidence began to return. “They look much better on you than they do on me.”
“What?” Every cell in your body seemed to be buzzing with anticipation. You wanted to believe that this was all leading up to something good, but a nagging fear in the back of your mind warned you against giving in to the false hope that you’d vowed to ignore.
“I was born with these eyes as well,” Levi confesses calmly while gesturing to his face. “Both of them.”
It was your turn to cover your mouth, wondering desperately if it was all right yet to dare to dream that there was meaning behind what was happening after all.
“I have no idea if this is all a coincidence or not,” Levi shrugs as his mouth pulls into a frown. “To be honest, I gave up on the idea of soulmates a long time ago, but I cannot ignore the fact that you’ve consumed my thoughts from the moment I saw you in the market.”
Tears unwittingly begin to blur your vision as all the tension inside you finally reaches a tipping point.
“I…” You aren’t sure whether to laugh or cry. Levi’s hand appears in front of your face, offering a handkerchief. You accept it gratefully and wipe the wetness from your eyes and cheeks. “I didn’t think it was possible, but I haven’t been able to stop thinking of you either.”
Levi folds his arms over his chest as if contemplating the matter seriously, but the pause only lasts a few seconds this time. Before you have time to worry about what he’ll say, he’s offering you his hand.
“Would you like to be my soulmate then?” he asks, a hint of teasing in his voice despite the nervous energy surrounding you both. You don’t hesitate to place your hand into his. You weren’t sure if your matching eyes was a sign that you were meant to be together, but it wouldn’t be fair to either of you to throw away the shot of having the kind of life you’d watched other people enjoy your entire lives. If you were able to bring each other happiness, you could care less if it was what fate had planned.
“Yes,” Your voice shook with the overwhelming emotions coursing through you, “I think I’d like that.”
“As would I,” Levi replies as a real smile takes over his face at last. The hope you see in the depths of his beautiful gray eyes makes you appreciate the matching color of your own for the very first time, and the idea of a happy future finally seems within your grasp.

The Shackles of Duty
Pairing: Diluc x gn!reader
Synopsis: As a weapon of the Abyss, your obligation towards your Princess should be eternal.
Warnings: Unedited angst. Pls ignore any mistakes besties <3
Word count: 2k
Tumblr media
You've never really given the weather any thought. It's not as if it matters to you. Stormy day or not, your responsibilities—no, your duty towards the Abyss will remain the same.
It's still raining. The mud thick underneath your boots, slippery against your heel, the putrid smell of grassy dew lingering miserably against the air.
"You know what you have to do." The Abyss Princess commands you, her loyal servant, hers to dispose if she so desires.
"The dragon...Stormterror." You explain, goosebumps forming on your skin as a result of the damp clothes that adorn your wet body. "Your brother, the honorary night, along with others, thwarted our plans by eliminating the fragments."
"Why?"
"You know why, your grace." Is all that you can give to her. "I shall follow him. Keep him away, from inciting another encounter—"
"No," Lumine declares, no room for argument. "Infiltrating their ranks is no easy task. You mustn't be relieved of your post, not yet at least. We need to extract as much information as possible to further avoid outcomes like these."
Exactly the answer you don't want to hear in the middle of this archon forsaken storm, all bruised and bumped up from Stormterror's confrontation.
Don't make me do this again. I don't know how much more I'll be able to take.
You bite your tongue, knowing full well the finality of her words. "As you wish, my princess."
The familiar redhead suddenly plagues your mind, stoic, and with years worth of anger at the world. The hero in the shadows, the man with an agonizing past, a sense of retribution albeit his severed connections with the knights of favonious.
Despite the obstacles of life and the intellect honed from his journey, he's reckless. Reckless enough to still believe that he can make a difference. That anyone can make a difference.
Diluc is reckless enough to love someone, reckless to think that his sworn brother would be the only one capable of betraying him.
"There's no point." Diluc whispers loud enough for you to hear him underneath the stars, adding onto the lull of night. "They all keep walking—no, running, aimlessly because of duty. They follow orders without knowing where they come from. It's utter chaos."
"But in all the chaos, there is calculation." You lean against the stone of the walls, and as always, you know how to speak to Diluc. How to open him up and read him like a book.
You're sure he can do the same with you, but he just isn't looking where he should be. You need him to look; to realize he's tangled up in your web of deceit and that there's no way out.
"How do you do that?" He says, aware all at once. "How do you give me so much yet so little?"
I want to give you everything, the pretty and the ugly things alike. I want to give you my secrets, fold them up in a dirty, black, envelope, and have you turn it to ash with the violent flames of your heart.
It's a lot of work hiding under false pretences.
"It's a beautiful night, my love." You say instead.
Diluc's never gotten used to the term of endearment, still new to receiving affection. It warms him up differently to his vision, pleasant yet unfamiliar. It takes a moment for him to come back to himself.
You briefly jolt at the pleasant warmth of his hand atop yours, a silent reassurance, one that worsens your guilt, weaves it into something that pierces your rotten core.
You don't know what you're thinking when you stand in front of Jean's office, fist hovering.
Is forgiveness why you're here? No, because you would've went to Diluc first. You would've confessed to him right then and there about what a vengeful weapon you are, a mindless soldier that will do anything for their queen.
You don't even get a chance to think of the various ways he'd kill you when the door is open, and you're met with the view of the acting Grandmaster herself. Another dear friend that will come to despise you.
"Y/N! I'm glad you're here—"
"I'm a servant of the Abyss." You cut her off, and don't stop yourself, letting the words run freely against the fast pace of your heart. "I've infiltrated Mondstadt under the orders of the abyss princess and used what I've learned to conspire against the archons."
Everything's spinning, so fast you can barely breathe.
Jean doesn't move, doesn't even blink as the confusion dawns on her face. You aren't looking for confusion.
"Don't pretend you're blindsided completely," You give her a humourless chuckle, and by the hush of your tone it's as if you're telling her a secret to any spectators. "You've known for a while now that there's been a traitor within your ranks. Every single attack from the Abyss—too clean, too unpredictable, one could say with coincidence."
"But the universe is rarely so lazy." Your voice is smooth, calm, the complete opposite to the flurries of emotions that bloom your being. "Varka knew that. And so do you."
"No," Jean finally speaks up, denying your claim incandescently. "We've fought together for years. You're one of our best, our most dependable. Everything we've done—everything you've done has been for Mondstadt. As always."
If only that were the truth.
You wave a hand over your right eye, releasing the magical bind to reveal the intricate marker. Jean's eyes widen, and she's far from her usual composed self.
"Still don't believe me?" You ask, knowing full well she's still in denial. It's not everyday your best mate, the one that fights alongside you, admits to being a traitorous scum of the abyss drenched in years worth of lies.
Ah the trials and tribulations of friendship.
"Fine then," With the flick of your wrist, it doesn't take much effort for the main doors to open up with a bang.
The acting grand master draws back at the shrill sound, teeth gritting.
She isn't the only one that's provoked. Wood and Wyratt, the only two guards on duty at this time let out shouts of surprise, reaching for their swords on instinct.
You summon your abysmal magic, which shapes into deep blue, if not black, appendages. They glitter, hiding the entire galaxy in them, with stars that burst into life. Breathtaking if not used on the battlefield.
In mere seconds, one latches on to Wyratt's leg, while the other takes Wood by his arm. All it takes is a jerk of your index finger, and they're sent flying outside the doors, which unceremoniously slam shut behind them. The lock clicks into place, cherry on top.
Jean materializes her sword, taking on a defensive position. You don't think you've ever seen the woman irritated, let alone as livid as she is right now.
That's more like it.
"Go on. Arrest me." You bring your wrists up, casual as ever. "We'd better hurry. They'll come after me soon enough, it's in your best interest to listen to everything I have to say if I'm willing to die over it." There's a tightness in your chest that you can't explain.
Jean hardens her gaze, not allowing herself to relax. You know what she's going to say. You've been her friend, her advisor, long enough to understand where most of her actions and decision stem from.
She says—well she says nothing, because she doesn't get a chance to when an abrupt screech erupts from her office, causing your ears to perk up and your blood to run cold. A series of heavy footsteps, footsteps you're all too familiar with follow.
Although you're fairly certain you know who it is, you glance over her shoulder anyways to meet the fiery red eyes that have reserved a place in your heart. The sole reason you're blowing the whistle.
You feel a sharp pang in your heart.
The pure, authentic, hurt in Diluc's hardened features are enough to have you gutted completely. Mouth dry with a rock in your throat, you don't so much as allow yourself to exhale.
You finally understand why you didn't go to him first. You were sure he'd be able to survive the betrayal, but you weren't sure you'd be able to survive it yourself.
Diluc. You want to tell him, tell him how sorry you are. Tell him how much of a piece of shit you are. Tell him that he doesn't deserve this, that he deserves so much better. Tell him that you love him, devastatingly so.
It isn't supposed to end this way. Things never go as planned.
You avert your gaze, clench your jaw shut, and wait.
"Jean." Diluc says, and there's grim finality in his voice. "We need a moment." His words send small pricks throughout your spine.
Jean regains her composure, mulling over his request, but any resistance is placated by a simple look from the redhead.
When she reluctantly leaves, the quiet is near unendurable.
"Why?" If the way Diluc's fixed gaze could set anything on fire, you would've been burned to the stake by now.
You'd calculated this moment countless of times, predicted exactly how this would go, lived through every outturn in the dead of the night as you struggled to find sleep in his arms.
Living through it is far more dreadful than you could've ever imagined it to be.
His body closes in at your lack of reply, hands gripping your forearm to pull you in and kick the door shut. "Why?" This time it's more firm.
You open your mouth to speak, like a fish out of water, and out comes nothing.
"I trusted you," Diluc says weakly, in a way that has your heart shattering a million times a second. Tightening his hold on your arm, he continues "You were the only one I...I should've known. I was foolish to think I could believe in you." a sharp exhale, and he pushes you back against the door, but it's not harsh at all. He's gentle, and somehow that makes everything so much more worse.
Your inability to reply sparks a different kind of rage in his heart.
"It must have been quite the show, watching everyone run in circles." He seethes, furious, wounded. "Was it all just a lie? Were my feelings ever returned? Or was I just another one of your fair games?"
You wrench away from his hold as if it's burning you. The words are like needles, pinning into you with so much force it has you lurching in place, and then they twist deep within your blackened veins.
"Stop it." You should've just left. Should've just pushed back the nagging in your brain and jumped off a cliff or a something. Surely the unexpected death of a royal guard—no, the death of a fundamental piece in their plan would surely be enough to cripple them for at least a few days, if not weeks.
Anything but this.
You meet his gaze. "I do love you Diluc, that I am sure of. You don't have to believe me. I know I wouldn't."
"Is that all you have to say?" He all but hisses, gloved fingers closing in to form a fist. "You've betrayed everyone. Your friends, your family...me."
"You think I don't know that?" Your voice breaks when you look away. "I don't know what's right anymore, what's wrong. I don't even know what I've been fighting for this entire time." A sharp, mirthless laugh escapes your lips, "To allow myself to carry out orders I do not believe in is too much to bear. How long do I delude myself into thinking that this is all for Khaenri'ah? That this is all for a reason that is beyond me?"
There's a sliver of softness that shows in his features, but you're too busy calming the waves crashing in your head.
"Whatever it is, it doesn't matter anymore." You say, the sinking of your chest only expanding. "I've already contravened against the abyss, and for that they will come for me. The only thing I regret is that they couldn't get to me before you did."
A stricken look passes across his face, brows furrowed and desperation as clear as day when he reaches for you.
This time, you let his arms curl around your shaking figure, welcoming the comfort that you're undeserving of. "I won't let them."
"I'm sorry." You whisper shakily, fisting the fronts of his coat. "I'm so sorry Diluc."
Diluc hums as he strokes your hair soothingly, with the utmost of care. Although his trust in you has shattered, like irreplaceable fragments of glass, his love for you will remain constant.
Even with the storm that is fated to come.

Personal Training
- Katsuki Bakugou x fem!reader SFW
- Warnings: mention of harm, bandaging wounds, choking
- Summary: as a third year, you and your childhood friend Shinso have been moved from the general studies course onto the hero course. No one seems too keen on you two, until you meet Bakugou late one night in the training city and he seems to take a personal interest in you
———————
Wandering around the testing sites at midnight wasn’t something you should be doing, but ever since you got moved from general studies into the hero course it was the only way you could calm yourself down after a day of training. It was dark, the cold air still around your skin and the only light shining was from the full moon above you. You’ve always dreamt of being a hero, but knowing you couldn’t control your quirk, knowing you had the ability to seriously hurt someone if you lost control, you applied for general studies and vowed to learn to control your power before you tried to move into the hero course. Your thoughts drifted to Shinso, you two had been friends for years going all the way back to nursery, just two toddlers constantly holding hands and only ever with each other. Your chest swelled with pride thinking about how both of you had beaten the odds and been moved from general studies to the hero course after all your efforts. You were in your third year, you’d missed a whole two years of the intense hero course training but it meant you two finally got the attention you deserved. You were finally seen as hero material. Sure you felt bad for the people who got moved out, but you didn’t know them and they were obviously not making the most of the opportunity, so you were glad to take their spot. You had to be a hero at any cost.
It was quiet around you, the only noise you could hear was your own footsteps, your breathing the only sign of life. Your breath was coming out softly but because of the cold it was visible, the curls and twists of your breath softly disappearing into the moonlight. You’d been wandering around the town for a few hours now, watching the silent, dead city around you, the buildings towering over you and the roads stretched out and empty. It reminded you of home, disappearing after long days being bullied at school and skulking through the dying streets.
“You shouldn’t be here.” You hadn’t noticed the boy sneaking up on you. You could understand why he currently held your throat in his hands, you did look exceptionally different in and out of class. You didn’t bother fighting his grip, you knew this boy and he would certainly overpower you in hand to hand combat.
“You with that hand guy? He sent you in here to spy on me huh?” His grip tightened but you never once broke eye contact. His red eyes blown out with anger, his lips curled into a snarl and his breath warm on your face.
“I-I’m in your c-class dumb arse.” You managed to get out between shallow breaths. “The o-one with Shinso all the time. The new girl.” He seemed to believe you, releasing his grip on you ever so slightly but still eyeing you with intrigue.
“She has floaty purple hair, and that weird dark aura quirk thing...” You weren’t necessarily in the position to roll your eyes at him, but surely he should have noticed that your whole ‘dark aura quirk thing’ changed your physical appearance too? You’d fought him enough. You decided to indulge him, letting your power grow until you changed in his hands, the light from the moon almost being drawn into you as the darkness swirled and danced around you. Your body surged with the release of this power, your skin feeling hot, as if it was about to burn right off of your bones. You had never been able to control yourself before UA, and this place had shown you how to harness this power and use it to your advantage.
“Okay creep -“ he released you suddenly when your darkness started creeping up his arm and pulling him in. “- I believe you.” He was wiping his hand on his trousers now, obviously feeling the same burning you always did. You pulled your darkness back in, your hair falling flat against you, your eyes returning to their natural colour and your skin settling down. Dusting yourself off, you stood to face Bakugou. He towered over you, the boy growing to be over six foot during your time at UA.
“It’s almost as if you should believe me, seeing as I also live on the same floor as you.” Raising an eyebrow you tried to register his reaction but he didn’t seem to be paying you any more mind.
“Oi, I’m talking-“
“Shut up, I’m not interested anymore.” Sticking his hands in his pockets he turned on his heel and walked away from you. But you weren’t gonna let him get away that easily.
“Oi fucker! You don’t get to talk to me like that!” You walked after him, grabbing his arm.
“Get off.” He snapped back, his eyes dark and angry.
“Not until you apologise for trying to choke me out.”
“Not gonna happen sweetheart. Don’t wander around on your own acting all sketchy and I wouldn’t have had to.” This was ridiculous, all you wanted was an apology.
“But what about you huh?” He stopped walking and turned to face you.
“You’re skulking around here too, does that mean I get to choke you?” You smirked up at him feeling proud of yourself when his eyebrows furrowed.
“You can try, but I’ll kill you if you do extra.” This fucking guy.
“Are you serious right now? Like, does this act usually work on your classmates? Because I’m not scared of an immature man child who can’t even apologise when he’s done something wrong.” In a blur he’d managed to pin you up against the wall that you swore was 15 foot away from you two only seconds ago, his body pressed into yours and his hand around your throat again. You felt his thigh in between your legs, and you couldn’t help the shudder that moved through your body when he spoke.
“You should be scared of me, I’m gonna be number one, I’m the best.” He was staring directly into your eyes, not breaking the gaze he was bearing down on you.
“You think you’re gonna be number one? I beg to differ.” His cockyness seemed infectious. “I’ll beat you Bakugou, just you wait.”
———————
It had been a few weeks since your little scuffle and you had been trying to keep your word.
“Y/n, are you seriously gonna try and fight Bakugou right now?” You’d filled Shinso in on what had happened between the two of you and even though you knew he believed in your abilities, he really didn’t think you were ready to fight him.
“I need practise, and I can never go all out with you because I care about you, you’re my friend! It doesn’t work!” You laughed and Shinso rolled his eyes. He always asked you to go all in when you two sparred but you couldn’t bring yourself to hurt him, even if you knew he wouldn’t hate you, you would hate yourself.
“Look, he’s finally done with Kirishima so now’s my chance. I’ll be okay I promise.”
You totally weren’t okay. Bakugou had kicked your arse, and all he had to do was get close enough that you could feel the heat from his skin and place a hand on your waist during an attack and your hormone-riddled brain freaked out. Not that he’d noticed you’d frozen mid fight, so he just kept firing off attacks as you scrambled to think up a defensive strategy. But it was no use, one well aimed hit and you were down.
You were with Recovery Girl in the nurses office when Shinso popped his head in.
“Told you so.” He said bluntly, drawing a tut from Recovery Girl.
“If you’re gonna be negative she doesn’t need you in here. She need positivity for healing thank you.” He apologised and moved further into the room.
“So, how are you feeling?”
“Tired I guess, and a little sore, but nothing bad. How did the rest of the lesson go?”
“Well, Bakugou and Todoroki got into another fight, Deku tried to break it up but that didn’t really work so they’ve all got dorm cleaning duties for the next week.” That got a chuckle out of you.
“Bakugou? Cleaning? Unlikely.”
“Oh yeah, Aizawa said he’d stop by randomly to make sure they were cleaning.” By now Recovery Girl had ushered you off of the bed and had begun handing you your clothes back.
“You’re all bandaged up, now get dressed and get out of here! And take some candy! You! Make sure she gets back to her room safely will you?” Shinso nodded as you slipped your jacket and shoes back on, wrapping his arm around your waist as a support. You were thankful for him, even if he was a miserable bastard most of the time.
———————
Shinso had managed to get you back in one piece, placing you on your bed softly. No one else had come to help, but you two had expected as much. Since being transferred in you had been singled out as the outsiders of the group, no one had even tried as much as to have dinner with you guys or watch the tv with you two. You were always alone together, you were each other’s rock.
“Hey Purple hair.” The voice behind him was rough and angry, you recognised it in an instant.
“Bakugou. What do you want?” Shinso tried to take no mind, keeping all of his focus on tucking you into bed.
“I need to speak to y/l/n. Alone.”
“I don’t trust you alone with her after today.”
“Let me speak to her.” Shinso turned to face him, his eyes burning holes into Bakugou’s head.
“After the stunt you pulled? No-“
“Toshi, I want to hear what he has to say.” You tugged on his shirt feebly, and his guard dropped. He always softened up around you.
“Fine. But I’ll be outside.” You mumbled a thank you as he barged past Bakugou, hitting him with his shoulder as he passed. Shutting the door behind himself, Bakugou entered your room looking oddly sheepish.
“Hey.” You started softly, not wanting to jump straight into a fight with the guy.
“Hey. About today? I mean, I’m not gonna say sorry because you asked to fight but I just wanna say that I should have noticed you freeze and let up a bit. I didn’t notice and Kirishima had to point it out to me later on, so yeah. Don’t come in unprepared next time.” Well. It was a start.
“Oh, I mean I don’t know what came over me. I didn’t mean to freeze up on you trust me!” You tried to laugh it off, but the atmosphere in the room was way too weird.
“Was it because I touched you?” You blushed at this and dropped your gaze to the floor. Where you really that easy to read? “Because if it was then Kirishima owes me $20.” Oh.
“No. I don’t know why I froze but it wasn’t because you touched me.” He smirked at this, moving to sit on the end of your bed. You instinctively pulled your legs closer to yourself but he took this as an invite to spread out more. You took in his toned shoulders, his strong arms and long fingers. Your mind drifted, wandering how good they’d feel slipping under your shirt and -
“You’re not even listening are you?” He pulled you from your dirty thoughts and you shook your head.
“Wow. I said that it’s a shame, because I’d love to explore what else I can make you do with my hands.” He had to be joking right? You blinked at him, your mouth agape with pure confusion.
“See? You’re all frozen again. I must have an effect on you.” He started moving closer to you, shifting on your bed until his lips were a mere inch away from yours. His eyes were boring into yours, but the pupils were flickering slightly from your eyes to your mouth. He raised a thumb to your lips, rubbing the calloused skin across your bottom lip. You swallowed, suddenly aware how fast your heart was beating and how clammy your hands had gotten.
“Bok-” He placed a finger on your lips as if you quiet you.
“Call me Katsuki, y/n. I have a feeling we’ll be training much more closely from here on out.” With that, he pulled away and stood from your bed. He left your room, glaring at Shinso who was waiting patiently outside. The purple haired boy ran into your room as quickly as he could, inspecting your face when he saw you red, hot and flushed.
“I’m not even gonna ask what happened here.” He scrunched up his nose in disgust.
“Oh, n-nothing happened. He just offered to train with me more.”

To The Brink Of Confession: Chapter 1, "He's not ugly"
I'd like to blame @mytanuki-kun for one of their works inspiring this side project that is now in the way of my Kisame week progress. As frustrating as this is, I'm having fun with this one and I'm excited to write my first true multi-chapter fic, even if it doesn't fit with the rest of my works and their timeline.
Summary: At first, she had shrugged it off as him simply being worn out from all the social interaction, but if that was the case, why was he only avoiding her?
At first, she had let it slide. Being super friendly and interacting with people was draining after all, and being forced to live in close quarters with such a loud group was sure to take its toll on even the most extroverted people. His avoidance lasted the entire rest of his time spent in her world, but she didn’t worry. As usual, a month passed by before she herself was teleported away into the foreign world of Jutsu, violence, and ninja. She even shook off her doubts when instead of her usual escorts, she was picked up by Kakuzu and Hidan, being told that the others were all preoccupied with important missions, ones that she would only be a distraction from. Entertaining as she found the duo and their antics, she couldn’t exactly hide her disappointment from the silver-haired loudmouth she had grown to consider a friend.
“What’s with all the moping, huh?” He said loudly, stood in front of her, face lowered to look her directly in the eyes as she had been watching the ground as she walked. Blocking her path forward, she stopped to look up at him, forcing herself to push down her thoughts and play them off as nothing. Surprising as it may be, Hidan wasn’t entirely self-absorbed and happened to be pretty talented at sensing other's emotions, a skill that he very rarely made use of. Not that it was really all that hard to see that something was up with her. Always easy to read, an open book, she was the worst liar and easily the most sincere person he had met. He seriously couldn’t stand her mood lately, it was worried and upsetting. Mixed with Kakuzu’s ongoing anger at everything and everyone, the irritating emotions were mixing and giving Hidan a headache. There were only two ways he could think of to fix this, either piss off Kakuzu to relieve his built-up stress and risk an explosive and painful response, or play concerned friend and get the woman lagging behind them to return to her normal upbeat self. Contemplating both options, the least painful option seemed the best bet.
“It’s not nothing, I can tell, so don’t bother lying, you’re shit at it anyway,” he cut her off as she tried to reply.
She tried anyway. “Really though,” she said, smiling almost convincingly, “I’m just lost in thought, we’ve been walking all day, can you blame me for tuning out?” Waving him off, she sidestepped him to follow after Kakuzu, who had not stopped for them and was quickly leaving them behind.
Knowing that the likelihood of being separated from Kakuzu was high if they didn’t keep up with the old man, he didn’t hold her back but stayed by her side to press for a proper response. “I said not to fucking lie,” he spoke casually knowing that anything truly harsh would only shut her up further, “you’ve been like this ever since you got here, it’s not just you being tired of walking.”
Sighing, she replied, “Ok, you’re right that I’m not just tired, but it’s nothing, really. I just need to manage it by myself.” No longer lying was a step forward, but she kept her lips tight on whatever it was. She was stubborn, but Hidan was persistent.
“What’s with you being all shy all of a sudden? You’re always so fucking talkative no one but Fishface can get you to be quiet,” he complained, almost missing how she reacted at the mention of the tall swordsmen. He grinned, seemed like he had a hook. “Awe, is this about your little crush on the big guy? Did you ask him out and he chickened out?” He laughed cruelly.
It wasn’t much of a secret that she had feelings for Kisame, she wasn’t very good at hiding how he caught her eye, often spacing out while watching him train, and making any excuse to get his attention. Everyone at some point had noticed the flush to her face around him, or the fond look in her eyes as she looked up at him. To most, it wasn’t anything to focus on. Kakuzu and Sasori couldn’t care less about it, as long as she wasn’t being obnoxious, Itachi seemed to keep a careful watch over her and her interactions with his partner, his reasons were unknown to Hidan who couldn’t care less about the Uchiha. Deidara and Hidan made sure to poke fun and tease her at any opportunity, making sure to keep their taunts from the man of her affections, trying to draw out their entertainment as long as they could. After months of this, she had become accustomed to the mostly friendly jeering from the two and had begun to poke fun at herself as well. It seemed she had resigned herself to watching from afar and keeping her flirting to a level that was easily mistaken for friendly conversation by the oblivious man.
Years of being acquainted with Kisame had only given Hidan a surface-level knowledge of the man, but recently he had noticed just how unconfident truly was of his looks, something he of course zeroed in on immediately. 6 foot whatever and hulking over even Kakuzu, it was hilarious to him that the member of the legendary Swordsmen of the Mist was both self-conscious over his fishy appearance, and his years of training as a ninja had not taught him to notice the obvious signs that a woman was into him. How anyone could be so unaware, yet so skilled was beyond him.
Her face saddened at his words, her brow furrowing, and her eyes cast themselves to the ground again. “I haven’t said anything, but I think he might have caught on,” she said quietly.
Despite her clearly upset confession, he grinned. “Way to go! Fishface finally figured out how to see above water, wondered if his brain was just waterlogged,” he snickered, excited that he could finally openly pick on him over the subject, but she didn’t smile and remind him to be nice like she normally did when he made digs at the sharkman. Clearly not a good sign then.
“I think he’s avoiding me,” she said, looking defeatedly at her shuffling feet. Now that made no sense.
Not long after it was clear to everyone but Kisame that she had an attraction to the tall man, it became more and more obvious that it was reciprocated. As much as she stared at him, he stared at her. Less openly, probably why it had taken everyone a while longer to see it, but it was well known that the two were complete idiots that had no clue the other was just as interested as they were. Part of Hidan had wanted to tell them immediately, embarrass them and make a scene out of it all, but another part of him had held onto their frustrations and fed off of it as a much more drawn-out entertainment source. Deidara was in on it too, saying that as much as he wanted to set off an explosive show by forcing their feelings out into the open, he also wanted there to be a build-up. In the meantime, they got to tease their fishy accomplice as much as they could get away with without pissing him off and alerting the other half of the pining duo. The fact that Kisame was avoiding her after finding out she felt the same was not what anyone had expected. For once in his life, Hidan was pissed at the drama of it. He would not admit that he was actually looking forward to the two becoming a couple.
“Bet he’s just scared that someone thinks his ugly mug is hot and is worried for your sanity,” he laughed. Her hand smacked him halfheartedly.
“He’s not ugly.” She said sternly, “Although with how forward I’ve been, he may have been creeped out,” she smiled, but there was a twinge of pain on her face that Hidan couldn’t help but notice. It pissed him off, his whole religion was about inflicting pain and death for his God, but seeing her genuinely upset gave him a feeling of frustration on her behalf.
“There’s no way he’s creeped out by your creepy staring,” he found himself attempting to reassure her, feeling as though he was betraying his and Deidara’s whole scheme. “He’s clearly just as much a creepy stalker as you are.”
Unsure that she had heard him correctly, she looked up to see Hidan avoiding eye contact, looking off the side of the road, ignoring her reaction purposely. “I don’t see how he’s the stalker,” she laughed humorlessly, “When he’s the one avoiding me.”
“Of course you don’t, you’re just as fucking blind as he is,” he muttered. Her sudden giggle made him look at her in suspicion. “The hell’s so funny?”
She brought a hand to try and stifle her laughter before she spoke, “What’s got you all grumpy now? Upset someones not crushing back on you?” She teased, eyes darting to look at the silent man trudging forward ahead of them, then back at Hidan.
The glare he shot her only made her giggles slightly louder. “What the fuck are you gettin’ at?” He spat, daring her to continue.
Humming whimsically, she spoke, “I just think that maybe you’re projecting some of your own frustrations onto someone else.”
He should have chosen to piss off Kakuzu. She may have been the lesser of two evils at a first glance, but the ability she had to force him into subjects he would rather avoid was something he had forgotten to account for in his earlier decision. Unlike the completely requited yet oblivious relationship between her and Kisame, Hidan’s own feelings were something he tried to ignore whenever possible. It was just a shitty joke she had made, something about how Hidan should leave her alone since he was really just trying to make the old man jealous. Something he should have shaken off with a normal insult towards the old miser, yet he had frozen, caught off guard by the accuracy. That was the one and only time he had ever allowed himself to come out to someone and let them live. It was shameful in the church to have feelings of devotion for anyone but Jashin, yet wanting someone that couldn’t produce more followers was even more so. Adamantly, he refused his feelings towards the man, but since that day she had treated his explicit flirting as nothing more than a show.
Embarrassed as he was, his comeback held no bite, and her teasing and further avoidance of the earlier topic increased. Eventually, it turned into a loud argument that reached Kakuzu’s ears, who ended their annoying discussion by threatening them both. She was easier to scare, but whatever they had been squabbling about had made Hidan more feisty than normal.
“Fuck off you old dick! There’s plenty of politer ways to ask to be included in a conversation,” came the danger prodding taunt from the young man. It was hard to guess why, but the older man’s fuse was shorter than usual, and the woman yelped as a dark arm split off from the man's torso to grab the face of the loudmouthed man right beside her. Flailing wildly and ineffectively he was dragged along the ground, yanked by the harsh grip of the intolerant man. Green eyes surrounded by red sclera flashed at her, warning her she would be next if she didn’t follow quietly. Swallowing a lump in her throat, she did just that.

Pairing: Aaron Hotchner x Reader
Promt: Aaron admits his feelings to you at JJ and Will’s wedding leaving you speachless
Warnings: None
Part Two Part Three
MASTERLIST
-----
“You look miserable”
Rossi sat next to me sliding a flute of champange my way, I glady accepted the beverage downing it in one go in hopes of drowning out the couple that was dancing on the dance floor
Aaron and Beth
“I’m not”
“Then why are you sitting so far from everyone?”
I traced my fingers aimlessly around the rim of my glass refusing to look at the Italian
“I’m sure he told you what happened between us so could you blame me?” looking up at him he pat my shoulder
“We haven’t even been broken up for five minutes and then he’s already with her, he even brought her as his plus one” speaking in a hushed tone I leaned closer to Rossi not wanting to catch the attention of Morgan and Reid as they walked by
Aaron and I had a secret relationship which went on for a year and the only person who knew was Rossi, he had found out when he showed up unannounced at Aaron’s apartment catching me walking out the bathroom wrapped in my towel. How we managed to make it last so long without the others finding out was still a mystery.
 “It’s like he’s forcing her down my throat” I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat
“Y/n want to dance?” Jack’s sweet voice interruped us causing me to look over at the adoreable little boy who’s holding my arm
“Of course little man, let’s go” excusing myself I let the eager six year old pull me to the dance floor
His little hands held onto mine as we swayed to the song drawing the attention of the team. Jack raised his hand up and signalled for me to turn, giggling I stooped down to his height and he spun me carefully before tackling me in a hug
“Who knew a Hotchner was the key to get you out of your seat?”  Derek joked as he danced with Emily
“Only this handsome guy could get me to do anything” My fingers pinched Jack’s cheeks causing him to giggle
“Jack do you want to dance with me?”
Beth asked and the little boy latched onto my leg glaring at her not bothering to hide his distaste for her.  It’s taking everything in me to not laugh at the look on Aaron’s face
“Buddy let’s go colour with Henry” he eagerly pulled me away from the others heading straight to the table where Henry was
“Hi aunt y/n” he smiled up at me
“Hey buddy, can Jack and I join you?” nodding he gave Jack and I blank sheets of paper and some crayons
They both sat there drawing and compairing their versions of Spider-man completely blocking out the adults around them, oh to be a child. Leaning back into my seat I felt a pair of eyes on me, turning my head my eyes locked with Aaron’s. Beth was chatting away and by the looks of it he wasn’t listening to a thing she said
“Aunt y/n which one do you like more?”
“Let’s see” holding my hand up to my chin I playfully analyzed both drawings
“I love them both, why don’t you boys keep working while I disappear for a few minutes”
Standing up I ruffled their hair before heading to Rossi’s kitchen to escape his intense gaze. The door shut behind me as I walked over to the island, leaning on it I buried my face in my palms
I could easily leave without anyone noticing
No you can’t leave your friend’s wedding without saying goodbye
Groaning I plopped down into one of the bar stools wishing this night would just end already
“You alright?” startled my head snapped in the direction of the voice
Aaron
Can this be any worse?
“Peachy, what are you doing here?” grumbling I picked at my nails as he moved to stand opposite me
“I saw you take off from the boys, thought I’d check up on you” his arms rested on the counter top as he leaned forward
“Well as you can see, I’m alright now leave, please” the lump in my throat returned
“Y/n-”
“Don’t...start Aaron”
I could sense the direction of this conversation and I really wasn’t in the mood to deal with him right now
“Beth is probably wondering where you are you should go” his eyes softened seeing how glossed over my eyes were from the tears that threatened to fall
“Can we talk?” letting out a sarcastic laugh I looked at him
“Really, talk? Does it look like I want to talk to you, matter of fact, does it look like I want see you right now?” my lips trembled as I tried so desperately to hold back the river
“No but-”
“Exactly so leave me alone!” my voice raised
“There’s nothing to talk about Hotch, you made it pretty clear that you’ve moved on and I have to accept it. You don’t have to give me the whole bullshit speech that you leaving me was for our best interest at work” he rounded the counter coming closer
“At the time I thought that was best” I got up and put even more space between us because I knew that if he even brushed my arm with his fingers I’d be done
“A year Aaron, you ended us not three months in, not six months but after a whole fucking year and not even five minutes later you’re already moved on!” I pointed my finger at him letting out my anger, not caring to wipe the hot tears that streamed down my face
“Keep your voice down” he said stepping closer to me
“Why, there’s nothing to hide anymore so why bother to keep quiet. You’re so full of shit you know that” brushing past him I moved to exit the kitchen
“I still love you y/n”
Freezing, I turned around to face him. His usually hard eyes were now red and filled with tears
“I never stopped loving you” I walked over to him, taking in his broken state
Without processing my actions my hand reached up and slapped his cheek. My hand stung but I didn’t care, scoffing I rushed out the kitchen, door slamming shut behind me
“Mama you alright?” Ignoring Derek I went over to the boys and kissed them goodbye before heading over to the newlyweds
“Hey what happened?” JJ asked looking at my face
“It’s nothing, I just came to tell  you guys that I’m heading home. Congratulations again you two deserve all the happiness in the world” briefly hugging them I headed for the exit not bothering to make my rounds to the others
“Kid” Rossi called out for me but I didn’t stop
