Currently working on: My first ff. I am obsessed with it and since June, I have written more than 60k words. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

space, for sure. Established Regis's fear of dying in space by making him die in space with Kaidan listening in.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Arguably feeling numb, lost in time as it has Kaidan, Regis, and Zaeed working towards their triad again, Regis and Kaidan reuniting for a brief moment during ME2, and Regis getting some news and slowly getting closure on his resurrection, but it's bittersweet.

Do you get hate on fics?

Do you write smut. If so what kind?

On occasion. I'm not the best at it, but I range from vanilla to light dom/sub dynamics. I try to stay away from too much detail, can be a bit vague sometimes, and usually don't draw it out. I want to get better, but it's hard... (no pun intended). I have some WIPs that explore those dynamics a bit, especially between the duos in my main triad.

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Not any published, but I do love them. I'd like to one day write some ME/Star Trek or something along those lines with some universe travelling, but idk if I'll ever put pen to paper.

I have a WIP of Zaeed meeting the Alenkos, some family dynamics with Vikram and Adrian, and Kaidan learning how to Reave as well as telling Zaeed about BAaT, but it's all over the place and I really want to get back to it, but it's not letting me. I think it doesn't help that I haven't established too much about BAaT in my head with Regis, and that writing the Alenko parents is a bit difficult. I love the little universe I've created between ME1-ME2 and I want to explore Kaidan's and Zaeed's grief, their growing relationship, and Kaidan and Hackett dynamics more... I hope to find the inspo one day.

Dialogue, character dynamics/exploration

What are your writing weaknesses?

Too much dialogue, not enough description/action. Hardest part of my WIPs is filling in all the space between dialogue, and my characters can't stop talking.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

It's not something I've explored yet, but I prefer having things translated in fic (or formatted in such as way that makes it quick to translate it). It's likely not something I'll do myself.

First fandom you wrote for?

Publicly? Mass Effect. Privately? Back in middle school I wrote a bit of fic for the Mortal Instruments series, was quite obsessed with it as a teen.

Favourite fic you've ever written?

That's a hard one... honestly, you got me in a chokehold, the fic where Kaidan and Zaeed meet and hookup after Regis's death is one of my favorites. Fun to write, explore, and start dealing with my triad with one meetup at a time. but don't ask about Ryuusei is another fic that I adored writing and exploring my version of Citadel DLC. I need to continue that little series, but writing the casino date with the triad is proving difficult lol.

2022 End of the Year Fic Review

1. What is your AO3 account? for the vikings fandom it's my pseud vikingstrash.

2. How many words did you write total in 2022? 117.233 *whistles* not too bad if one considers what a year it's been.

3. How many fics did you publish in 2022? How many multichapters vs oneshots? 39 one shots and 2 multichapter. All Hail the One-shots!

4. What was your longest fic? Your shortest fic? Longest was Kings of Kattegat with 39,878 words and the shortest Story as old as Time with 119 words.

5. What was your most popular fic? Your least popular fic? Most popular (going by subscriptions, hits, comments, kudos and bookmarks) has to be my VBB entry Kings of Kattegat. Personally, the most self-indulgent fic I ever wrote.

Least popular is Sweat. I guess it would be a lot more popular if it wasn't hidden behind the AO3 log in. And also if it had full on smut and not just teasing, but oh well, I like it and in the end, that's all that matters xD

6. What fic didn’t perform as well as you thought it would? Huh, that's a weird thing to think of, I never really give it much thought if my writing is going to be popular or not so that thought of a fic not "perfoming well" is kinda...absurd to me. Anyway, if I had to take a guess, I'd say Greedy Gods? While it does have a lot of hits and a couple kudos, it's weird to me that for a fandom with so many people claiming they want more fic about the female characters and how much they love Aslaug, there was not as much love for it as I would assume. Must be a me-problem.

7. What fic performed way better than you thought it would? Basically anything I wrote for D. P. - Deserter Pursuit. I didn't think there would be enough people in said fandom to read, kudo and comment, but was positively surprised.

8. What was your favorite fic you wrote from 2022? For Vikings: Valhalla, Daughter of the Fearless. I loved giving Altöra more background story and this glimpse of her relationship to Freydis. It was fun to write.

For Vikings, Strung up, Tongue-Tied. I mean....sub!Hvitserk restrained and dom!Amma playing with him? Ubbe observing, just being present without doing anything besides kissing Amma? Yeah, I loved that one. It's full of tension.

For D. P. - Deserter Pursuit, Pity. My dumb ass actually made it a published WIP because there was more to tell and I liked it a lot. Only the Gods know if I will actually write more though xD

9. What was your favorite fic that somebody else wrote in 2022? Well, for someone who couldn't be paid to read other people's fics, I managed to read quite a lot in 2022 for free. Mind boggling, I know. But here go my favs:

Gotta start with Not A Fairytale by underragingwaves, because...have you read that fic? It's really a fun read (for those who like crime stuff which is basically exactly what I love) and promising a bigger universe underneath that small treat she wrote.

Will totally never stop making hearteyes at Twice Now by ritual-unions. Love how Kara (heh) is so clumsy and unable to function in the real world and the way Ubbe basically just watches and smiles to himself, before his eye-roll moment that will make him intervene. I also love myself some good hurt and gosh, this is gonna hurt so damn bad at the end and I will love every second of it.

There were a couple to pick from and it was hard to choose, but when someone can make me read an Ivar fic, then it says a lot about that persons writing skill. The Mental Tyrant by grimeundglow deserves so much more love than it has been given.

Reactions Of Your Kind by Ulfrsmal was my fav of him in 2022, but only because I didn't really get to read the rest of his fics xD I'm sure there are more gems in his list, but this one stood out to me because...Hvitty and Ubbe 🥺

A Prize of Battle by Mercurygray, is absolute Emma/Canute goodness and Idk what else to say, because this womans writing skills are beyond anything I could muster, so hearteyes from afar will have to do for now.

For Mince Pie by emma-ofnormandy, another author that captures Emma and Canute's relationship so well and it's so fluffy, I wanna hold it really tightly against my chest.

And last but not least The Queen of Kattegat by northernxstories! I will remain deeply impressed by how effortlessly she managed to pull me into her story and made me read it in one go, even though it's 12k of words xD It was such a new way of approaching the characters and it's brilliantly written. An absolute treat in 2022.

So idk why it has taken me so long to send this haha but seeing as how the lack of competent, non-doormat MCs in otomes have come up again here on your blog, I wanna share 2 I've found that fit the bill (idk if you've heard of em):

I Love You! is sweet and short. There's 3 LIs and multiple endings. It's funny too. Only downside I'd say is that because it's short I think it can make some interactions seem too tacky I guess since it all has to fit in... but I liked it :)

Then Tailor Tales . I'm still busy with it. Since I got a job I don't have time anymore lol, but I think it has the most potential and I think you can kinda be a soft or hard-ish dom (to use those terms, but it's called "fierce" levels in the game lol), and so there is eventual nsfw moments. But it's wholesome for the most part. Idk if full game is out. Some downsides are that I personally don't like some of the cgs lol and the voice sound effects (so I just lower the volume of them).

Ever since I found Blooming Panic and OLBA through your blog, I've been infected by the need for more !! Truly a shame that we are deprived of proper submissive characters for Mc...

I Love You! was short but a good past time and a nice refreshing game dynamic wise, you're right.

With Tailor Tales, there's actually a tag on the character profiles telling you if a character is submissive or dominant, which I liked. I've only played Dimitri's route, which is the only submissive character out at the moment, and I enjoyed his route a lot (although the n-sfw extra was underwhelming and he's not like, super submissive.)

However, Aiden's route I'm very excited for. His route isn't out yet but it's a n-sfw route fully based around a dom!MC and sub!Aiden dynamic. I'm really interested and looking forward to playing it whenever it comes out!

RYEN WHAT THE F- i cant even- oh my god. when i tell you i squealed at the “bitch.” and everything was a blur from there, i feel dizzy! whew anyways lets start from the beginning: dom <3 i missed my fave! also i love readers character development moments so much my bby just needs some love & healing and yoongi is so understanding & soft with her (outside of the bedroom😭) also i love the new tradition building and the little mention of yoongi being closer next year and i live for their little eye contact/shared reaction moments during group activities it makes me blush every time😭 this was so good idk what to do w myself & im rambling! but youve outdone urself again🫂

honestly same?? like after that it was all just one huge blur and a ride i very much enjoyed being on ahahaha. dom to the mf rescue! i missed her too so it was refreshing to write her again. and she’s a sag!!! a little detail thrown in there that no one has mentioned yet. 

and i’m glad you see the flaws in reader being healed. like they knew - knewww - that what they were doing was stupid but didn’t know why. after they figured it out, it was communicated and everything started being different from there. he really wanted to heal those proverbial wounds asap. 

the traditions building😭 i wanted this piece to end on a good note since it’s a holiday special, and i enjoyed writing the ending scenes a bunch. the series is serious in a lot of ways, but life isn’t all one thing. it holds multitudes, and that’s what i wanted to capture here. that and to show more of the sibling relationship, too. “your brother’s yell is already worth it” is one of my fave lines in the window<33
