I always think it's a little surprising, irritating, endearing, something when big, tough men find solace in being gentle with their daughters.

There's reason to do tough things with them, too, to make sure they grow up strong and independent, but I think of a man like Simon "Ghost" Riley, who spent a huge percentage of his life being beaten down consistently by almost all the men who were around him.

And sure, he trusts the men in his task force with his life now, no question about it, but... I think the sudden calm he experiences when he starts to raise a daughter is beyond strange for him, but also weirdly... healing, too. Enjoyable.

That's not to say he doesn't, and hasn't, enjoyed the boyish things in life, the watching sports, the playing in the dirt, the pretending to hold guns part of growing up... but he finds himself sitting through your daughter's ballet class, overwhelmed by the calm that surrounds him, actually able to focus on the intensity of her pliers, her releves, the way her pink skirt ripples when she leaps into a sauter.

It's a new realization, a new kind of war (between him and learning how to be a parent), but it's one that doesn't revolve around the consistent anxiety that warps his stomach when he watches boys, little or not, teeter the line between roughhousing and fighting, picking on one another for shedding accidental tears that, really, cause no harm.

With your daughter, he's set in charge of watching her play with her friends and finds there is no lump in his stomach when she giggles with them, no dark possibility drifting in the back of his mind that she'll reach out and get her arm broken by someone she trusts--the fights she fights with her peers all between the characters they play and not between their fists, their games of laughter and drama and screaming but not of raging violence.

There's people who ask him, people who joke, wouldn't a man like him prefer a son? He must've been so disappointed... Yet, Simon still has yet to think of the best way to tell them that he honestly enjoys having a daughter a little bit more, that she runs to him and not for a second is he afraid she's hiding a snake up her sleeve, because she's only ever greeted him with flowers.

Bakugo and your daughter cuddle every day after work. It’s a pretty sound routine; he gets home, changes clothes… and then sits down and lets her hug him right up until dinner is ready or needs to be made.

And they’re cute together! So cute, in the way she’ll stand on his thigh to rub her cheek against his, and more often than not, he’ll start drifting off to the sound of her babbles about school while listening and patting her little belly.

Things always have to change though, don’t they? When one day it’s her who ends up taking a nap on his stomach… and you’re forced to pluck her off his lap so that she can, at least, go rest in her bed…

Except your first attempt at getting her up results in one scary eye glaring at you as she clings to her father, and says, “let me go, you… you bitch!”

And Bakugo doing such a bad job at hiding his laughter that she ends up waking up anyway… and tries to slap him, too.

When I just saw this information I couldn't stop crying thinking about it, and now my heart aches. They were the same age as me, I know for a fact like any other teen they dreamt of their future, who they would want to become, what to achieve, create, wondering if they meet those in the future they can call friends, wondeting if it'll get better when they grow up, maybe wished to leave that terrible place or maybe wanted to stay. How could anyone let this happen, why were they discharged from hospital so easily? And the school, we all know why. I hate everyone who have ever committed such vile hate crimes, I wish them in prison and hell. But i would never go down to their level. But I also blame the government, the school, and even those bigoted online accounts that teach their followers hate. In this case LibsOfTikTok, who targeted the teacher of this school, who supports lgbtq+, so they had to leave their position. It must have been the push for this to happen. I think their tiktok account has been thankfully deleten. But i have no idea about Twitter or any other. Please check and mass report them if it still exists. When I was a kid, I regularly lost reading privileges for "having an attitude" and "acting out".

It wasn't as simple as being told not to read during other activities- one of the first times it happened, I remember being six years old, watching my stepfather pull fistfuls of books off my bookshelf and throw them to the floor in a heaping mess while I cried and asked him to stop.

It was weird. Every other adult I knew described me as exceptionally well-behaved, but at home, it was the opposite, and it was blamed on "learning bad habits from that shit you're reading".

Because I couldn't read at home, I spent all my free time at school in the library, reading with my friends.

When I grew up and moved away, I realized that my family life was toxic and abusive, and the "attitudes" I was being punished for were standing up for myself, standing up for my younger siblings, and resisting actual, real-life psychological abuse. Because I'd learned from what I'd read that my family wasn't normal, not like my parents said it was, and in my stories, the heroes were the people who spoke out when it was hard to.

It is insane to me that there are students right now who can't access books. It is insane that books are being outlawed. It is perverse that we are stealing away an entire generation's ability to contextualize their lives, to learn about the world around them, to develop critical thinking skills and express themselves and feel connected to the world or escape from it, whatever and whenever and however they need.

That is not how you raise a compassionate, thoughtful, powerful society.

That's how you process cattle.

It's fucking disgusting.

Nex Benedict was a indigenous trans nonbinary teenager. Their head was beaten against the floor in a bathroom stall. Less than 24 hours later, they died, most likely from undiagnosed head trauma. Conservatives say they want to, "protect the children", where was the protection for Nex? That's the thing. There wasn't any. Nex died. And many more trans, queer, and nonbinary minors will if we don't step up and do something. What happened to Nex has and will happen to queer folk around the globe. Say their name.

Edit: I didn't expect this to get much attention, but thank you everyone. What alot of people, "forget" to mention was that Nex was two spirited, which means they were indigenous. The fact that I wouldn't have heard about this if I didn't have Tumblr is absolutely revolting. News needs to be covering this. But what are Republicans doing? It's honestly a shame kid whump is so taboo in the whump community when it's so, so common in beloved published media. I get it, since the most common whump tropes are erotically violent (like whipping, pet whump ect), but there's really so much good kid whump out there.

I’m leaving my current job at a play area soon after working there for two years and oh boy have I had some interesting things happen during that time. So fuck it why not share it on here because we all love a good customer service story

Very first shift: all children in the party decided to have a screaming contest at the very top of the play area while I was being taught to work the till. The parents just stood around and laughed

An eight year old girl wet herself and the mum brushed it off saying “oh she does that all the time when she goes to play areas”. Girl she’s eight you need to teach her when to use the toilet????

A kid was bitten on the back so hard that the kid who bit him lost a baby tooth

A kid threw a metal water bottle down the slide and it cracked open another kids head, as well as denting the slide in two places

I’ve been called a nuisance, an idiot girl and brain dead by parents, as well as being told to piss/bugger off on several occasions. I’ve also had kids both push and hit me

A mum brought her child in bundled up in a scarf and coat even though it wasn’t really cold outside. Turns out the kid was just recovering from chickenpox and had been off school for ages but the mum thought it was still okay for him to come to a soft play area filled with other kids his age and babies. We had to close for the day and deep clean the whole play area

Also many other cases of kids coming in with Covid, sickness bugs and even hand, foot and mouth disease. When I got Covid last December it was because there was a party of kids whose class had just had an outbreak of it. The parents assured me that all of the kids attending tested negative but a lot of them were coughing

Parents trying to be helpful in the most unhelpful way, such as going into the kitchen without permission to move stuff around, despite a sign on the door which clearly says “staff only”

Kids always try to steal food from the counter but usually the parents make them return it and all is well. One time though the parent said “oh I thought the food was free” and when my supervisor explained that that wasn’t the case the parent got really pissed off and stormed out of the play area. It was a 35p pack of cookies

I had to tell several people that no, just using a napkin to wipe away piss is not enough to clean it and then allow your kids to continue playing all over it. That’s fucking gross

Had a man bring in a helium canister and a pack of balloons, which was fine until he refused to take all the balloons and the now empty canister which we can’t dispose of home with him

Several arguments over absolutely atrocious parking outside. We get it, the lines are faded, but you do have to TRY and use some common sense

A boy threw a tantrum because the birthday girl gave him a cupcake with a pink unicorn on it because it was girly. All of the cupcakes had unicorns on them, even the blue ones, and he refused to leave until he got a dinosaur cupcake instead (which obviously we didn’t have)

A mum once took 45 minutes to leave because her daughter had a meltdown. First she wrapped her arms around the netting on the play area, then when her mum finally managed to pry her free she refused to let go of the door, then because she was struggling so much she tripped and grazed her knee which made her scream even more. My supervisor went outside with first aid and some water and for a moment the girl seemed to calm down but NOPE it took another fifteen minutes to get her in the car. By that point we were ready to close and had to lock the gates so the mum literally just got her in the car, locked the back door, and drove off. I later saw her car parked up half way down the road

Various spoilt brats either throwing mega tantrums over not being allowed something or being bought everything that they could have ever wanted. It’s fine to an extent, but after buying the fifth lollipop it’s a lil bit concerning

Finishing this already very long post on a more positive note: shout out to one of our regulars for being the sweetest and most adorable two year old ever. She always waves to me and her mum says she doesn’t talk all that much but whenever she comes to the play area she’s really chatty. I’ll miss her a hell of a lot 💔
