As many of you may know, I started a new job in July. It is honestly pretty close to a dream job for me and I’m really loving it, however it is longer days/more hours than my previous gig and has affected my free time a bit. With fewer hours to write my pace has slowed a bit, but my motivation and inspiration are still Pretty Damn Big so I’m not going anywhere!
Soulmate Sunday posts will stay in their weekly schedule, but Friday posts are going to cut down to every other week. Javi’s royalty au will share post space with one shots here and there, and in spooky season we’ll be running a vampire!Ezra fic set in Boston that we cooked up during our trip!
There’s a lot of good stuff to come and @absurdthirst and I are really excited to share it with you!
When you get a notification that tacotime posted the next chapter of the water queen at the same time you’re writing the next chapter of your Namuri fic and for a split second you wonder why you even try.
And then you remember that it’s not a competition. It’s not about the views or the praise. At the end of the day we’re all trying to create stories and art for a thing we love because we love to. And doing what I love is more than enough of a reward for me.
In a year, I've written 2 and a half books. Own world, own characters. Completely new. This is a series I've had in my head for 15 years and never thought I had the skill to put it down on a page. I've now written over 300,000 words, probably deleted as much again. Talked about it with friends and gotten some amazing feedback about how to build this world even more.
I think this series is good. In fact i'm really excited about it. This series feels like i'm nailing something and building something pretty great. It feels different from what I've felt before when writing and I'm not sure if it's because I'm healthier or it's genuinely the best things I've written or both.
I'm sure this feeling will come and go. But today I want to put it out there that I'm making something that I love and that I'm really proud of it and myself.
57: Do you have a preferred technique for giving oral?
Yes I do.... well, kinda.
Okay, it's not a technique per se.... I just enjoy it, pay attention to the responses I get, and concentrate more on the things that hit. And messy... it's gotta be messy.
and don't be surprised where my fingers and tongue will go.
Wonderful Things That May or May Not Be Wonderful!!!
Making a live action adaptation of an animated piece of work tends to be as good an idea as installing an elevator in a one-story building - technically possible but utterly unnecessary and a bit bewildering. However, unlike that waste of space, it is theoretically possible to create such a thing worthy of standing alongside its predecessor. Likely not as great but worthy nonetheless. Just take a look at Netflix’s live action adaptation of Eiichrio Oda’s landmark manga, One Piece. Now, this version does have said creator’s blessing and assistance going for it but that’s not the whole story. Watching the show, it is clear that many of the key members of the production staff love the source material and that love shines through in the production design, the performances, and especially the little details sprinkled all throughout. Yet despite this reverence, it never stops the show from trying its own thing which is key in adaptations of any piece of media. I also have to give appreciation to the show’s tone. Many live action adaptations tend to scrub a lot of the more fantastical and ridiculous elements in exchange for “““realism”””. By contrast, Netflix’s One Piece is certainly grittier than its wildly cartoony predecessor but it does so in a way that it still keeps those sillier aspects intact which is a breath of fresh air for this kind of story. For heaven’s sake, they kept the phones as snails and made them Muppets! And so, it goes to show that if you have a good crew, a solid base beneath your feet and a willingness to break tradition while also keeping it in your heart at all times, you can make something truly wonderful.
