Katsuki Bakugo

A noisy weekend afternoon, pathetic winds making noise through the damned trees, and the extras just being extras, Katsuki Bakugo was fed up with the day, wishing for evening to come already, so that the common school gym opened and he could get started with his weekend training regimen.

It was literally just another shitty day.

Even his s/o had gone somewhere so he was all alone.

Not like he'll ever admit to missing them.

From the common room, he made his way to his own room, wishing to be just left by himself.

However his extremely polite wish to the gods was not granted.

Since he'd stumbled upon a damned brat right after entering his room.

Wtf?!

"What's this thing doing here...?"

Was even more stunned when that same brat had swiftly crawled upto him, and then upon him, and had landed on his shoulder.

The brat's crawling speed was unreal.

He wasted no time in grabbing the brat with one hand and shoving the thing on his bed.

"Who are you?" He inquired, making an expression which would be enough to scare any brat away.

But of course, you weren't just any brat, you were a special brat.

So, instead of answering his question, you did the next best thing that came to your tiny brain, you mimicked his question, asking him who he was, your lips curling into an innocent smile.

Wait- he feels he knows this smile-

"Y/n...?"

You hold his face in your chubby hands and nod vigorously.

He feels proud first, shocked next.

"How tf?"

Immediately became more gentle with handling you, his precious dumbass.

Didn't waste any time informing Aizawa about the situation. After much thought, Aizawa had reluctantly agreed on letting Bakugo be in charge of his fellow classmate.

"You are under my care huh?! Well you better behave AND ADDRESS ME AS YOUR MASTER!"

Loves how you broke into fits of giggles just after.

Most of your conversation with him was just playful banter.

"BA-k-bojhfh yur name's hawd" you say while poking his cheek

"WAIT-HOW COULD YOU SPELL MY NAME WRONG??!"

He was like an experienced caretaker. He immediately understood how you were feeling at any moment of the day, and caught onto your eating habits with the precision of a seasoned professional.

He kept in touch with both his studies and recovery girl, who informed him about the period of 3 days for the effects of your current state lasting.

Nothing that he couldn't handle.

Most of the times you were perched onto his shoulder like a baby bird.

He found your shenanigans enjoyable.

Except for the fact that you seemed to get his name wrong everytime.

After a few minutes from his trip to recovery girl

"There are three cards arranged here. Now get the cards one after the other and spell it correctly" Bakugo said in a somewhat calm manner- the calmest he could get with his anger

You nodded in response, picking the first card.

"B-A....Ba!"

And then you show it to him. "Baa!!" You say more eloquently in an excited manner.

You pickup the second pair.

"Kuuu~" you chirp happily as he nods in a satisfied manner "Baku!" You repeat happily.

Bakugo with his folded arms kept watching you, hoping that now you would finally get his name right.....(also not to hide it- he enjoyed the sight of his adorable partner trying to learn his name)

It was going fine until- "GUo...?"

Now Bakugo got a tick mark on his forehead and his triangular eyes appeared.

"AAAGGHHHHDAMNIT" He shouted with his hands pulling at his hair "NOW GIMME THOSE CARDS YOU CAN DO NOTHING"

You just nodded enthusiastically and gave him the cards, and perched on his shoulder.

"Say it-Ba"

"Ba"

"Ku"

"Kuu~"

"Go"

"...Go?"

Bakugo saw a new ray of hope-

"Now say it!- Ba-ku-go!!"

There was one minute of silence until-

"Bakujjgfxhuj-"

OH C'MON IT'S NOT THAT HARD!!!" Bakugo said, being exhausted.

And you burst into a fit of giggles.

I made these refs back for this year’s Artfight, but never got around to finishing the rest of my characters’. I nickname these three “the main trio” because they’re the three splatoon characters I draw and like the most. All three have a thing in common, albeit for different reasons: they all don’t go by their original names! If you’d like to read character ramblings, look below the cut, if not, you may do what you like.

Things to note: My Splatoon characters are stuck in Splatoon 2 purgatory, so the weapons, ages, and all that are stuck in that time period. (R) and (UR) is short for (restricted) and (unrestricted), which is referring to if the height is measured within a canon limitation, or without canon inkfish heights in mind.

Mochi

Dawn “Mochi” Funboruto

cis female (she/her)

Aged 16

5’ (R) - 5’7” (UR)

Mochi is an interesting inkling, not actually originating in Inkadia at all, instead from a far-off city by the name of Arrecife. She’s childhood friends with Slick, and only moved to Inkopolis because he’d shown it to be a hot spot for things of interest. She’s a Humboldt inkling, but cursed with an unusually small stature compared to her relatives, making her appear as an average inkling. Evidence of her ancestry can still be found in her sucker rings, which, unlike most inklings, are still very-much there. She’s described as sisterly, laid-back, and sarcastic, but can also snap to a very energetic, mischievous, and havoc-causing individual. She never seems to stand still, even while relaxed, quite fidgety by nature. She tries not to overthink, which can lead to poorly thought-out choices that result in unpleasant outcomes. She’s easily persuaded by bribes of food or money, which some of her friends take advantage of for her to do stupid dares, tasks, or for her to not blackmail them. She jokes around and doesn’t usually bring up serious subjects unless she thinks it’s important. She often has to be the straight-man around people like Slick, but also can join in on the mischief. She’s also agent 4, but it doesn’t really become super relavent. She goes by Mochi just because she feels like it, nothing else, really.

Slick

Mason “Slick” Stone

cis male (he/him)

Aged 15

4’11” (R) - 5’5” (UR)

Slick is a goofy character, son of a single mother and always trying to get up to antics. He is from the town of Arrecife, childhood friends with Mochi, and forming a chaotic duo whenever they decide to meet up. He’s quite full of himself, exasperates his accomplishments, and thinks he’s practically irresistible. Despite his arrogance, he possesses a heart of gold, and just wants to befriend anyone he can. He may not be the brightest, but he tries his best, even if it doesn’t work out. He has no concept of boundaries, and has broken into people’s houses to give them gifts. He went out of his way to befriend Hachikō, despite the people around him scoffing at him for it. Despite Hachikō’s not-super-great-but-understandable Inklish at the time, Slick was very accepting and thought it was more funny than anything. As their friendship grew closer, Hachikō moved in with him, and they currently share an apartment. Slick gave himself that name because he wanted to sound cool and dissociate with his father.

Hachikō

Hachikō “Hachi” ??

Age unknown (~16-17)

5’1” (R) - 5’9” (UR)

Hachikō, an amnesiac found in a place he feels lost in. He’s agent 8, and his story of venturing to the surface is one that only some know of. His Inklish is practically perfect in the current day, with only the slight hiccup and forgetting some words. He’s quiet, observant, and tends to appear stiff around unfamiliar people. He doesn’t talk much, instead thinking to himself a lot, sometimes staring off into space and getting lost in thought. He can be quite chatty if asked about anything of interest to him (ink weaponry, birds, etc). He tends to fidget, sometimes needing to occupy his hands by drawing. He takes most things seriously, or as they’re spoken, which has led to him not understanding jokes, and not always pinpointing sarcasm. He’s quite paranoid and constantly worried about being outed as an Octoling, or something going horribly wrong. It’s not uncommon for him to get sick due to being exposed to unfamiliar surface pathogens. Upon reaching the surface, he discovered he had a pollen allergy, which has lead to mockery by his friends for “sneezing like Lil’ Judd”. Slick is who he’s often seen with, eventually even being roommates with, almost always being the nervous straightman to Slick’s antics. Roxanne (agent 3) often babies him and comes to his aid, even when it’s made obvious that he’d rather her not. He appreciates her kindness, but not being infantilized. Hachikō picked his name because he had no memory of his original name, picking one that seemed familiar to him (might’ve heard it in a story once).

may i ask what are the evidences for derby having collaborated with gary??? im genuinely curious???

Of course you may! I'm happy to finally get to lay all of this out.

First, let me preface this by saying that this isn't a common theory, it's just something that I believe is plausible given evidence found within Chapter 5. I'll lay out my evidence and you can decide whether or not I'm reaching.

The main thing that tells me these two collaborated in some way is the way the Chapter 5 missions are structured. The very first mission, Making a Mark, is Jimmy going to vandalize town hall as his way to certify that he is king of the school. Who suggests that he goes to vandalize the town hall? Derby.

We can say that this is a coincidence, of course, but a similar instance has happened before, in the Chapter 3 mission Tagging. Derby manipulates Jimmy to vandalize New Coventry as revenge on the Greasers, which gets them to turn against him (you lose 25 respect with the Greasers for doing this). Going off of this, it can be easily inferred that Derby asked Jimmy to vandalize town hall as a way to get him expelled, because it worked so well in the past and something that Jimmy is willing to do. It also just so happens to be something easily provable that Jimmy himself did via photo evidence, and something that Gary can easily take to Crabblesnitch to get Jimmy out of his hair. 

Derby’s even the one to put the idea out that Jimmy needs to do something to make him known to the whole town. Neither Earnest nor Ted were talking of doing anything bad to town hall until Derby put the idea out, and though it was Earnest who said that he should do something to town hall, that came only after Derby said that Jimmy was “like the mayor”. It was more of a reactionary statement.

Just looking at Making a Mark, Derby’s purpose in Gary’s plan becomes clear: get Jimmy to do something that could get him expelled, as Gary couldn’t do it himself after cutting ties with Jimmy in Chapter 1, and he couldn’t take any chances of Jimmy doing it on his own before the school year was over.

But what about what comes after?

After Making a Mark, you then have the series of missions where all of the cliques turn against you and you have to fix it (Rats in the Library, The Gym is Burning, Finding Johnny Vincent, and Preppies Vandalized). Rats in the Library, The Gym is Burning, and Finding Johnny Vincent all come one after the other in the mission order, but Preppies Vandalized is broken up by Revenge on Mr. Burton, another required mission. Not only is Preppies Vandalized the last in the mission order out of these four, it comes after an unrelated mission, a break in the pattern. The Preppies were spared from the trouble initially, but then were betrayed in the end, after every other clique. This is likely where Gary cut Derby loose, as he outlived his usefulness, but not before causing trouble for every other clique to make it look like he was still part of the plan.

There’s also the matter of Complete Mayhem, AKA the riot. I’ve made a post before about how all of the clique’s locations in this mission relate to their chapter, but the Preps staying in their on-campus mansion during the chaos is yet another thing I can point to that says collaboration. The Preps’ on-campus mansion is not at all vandalized during this riot, not even the interior. Derby’s even wearing a fucking smoking jacket and slippers during this ordeal. Man’s not worried in the slightest, he’s ready for rest and relaxation. He wasn’t planning on fighting at all, he was planning on sitting back and waiting it out, until Jimmy came along. The fact that he wasn’t caught up in mob mentality implies prior knowledge, knowledge that something like this was coming and it would be better to ride it out. The only way he could even have that knowledge in the first place is if Gary had told him about it beforehand, as this isn’t the kind of thing that can happen spontaneously, and what other reason would Gary have to tell him about it than if they were working together? 

But, of course, there is the question of why Derby specifically? Why not any of the other clique leaders? And what motivation would Derby even have for agreeing to the plan?

Russell: Too loyal to Jimmy, also all brawn and no brains. Not the guy Gary needs at the moment, and no way he’d agree to it.

Earnest: Probably second choice (he even talks about Gary’s plan being great during Complete Mayhem), but does not have the lack of scruples or manipulative ability to be useful. He may agree to it just so that he can get power, but he’s not the best man for the job. (He’s also a creepy twerp but I don’t feel as though Gary would have taken that into consideration)

Johnny: Again, brawn over brains, and way too emotional. Too volatile and unpredictable for Gary to get much use out of him, and wouldn’t really have any steak in what Gary wants to do.

Ted: Quarterback, I don’t need to say it again.

Edgar: They were already collaborating, but Gary needed a guy inside the school, someone who knew Jimmy, and Edgar couldn’t do that for him.

Derby: Smart, manipulative and still hates Jimmy even after he becomes boss of the clique. He’s exactly the kind of guy Gary needs to pull this off, and someone he can easily cut loose later.

As for Derby, he hates Jimmy, and hates that he has power over him. Having Jimmy gone would be just as beneficial for him as it would be for Gary. Additionally, he gets to avoid most of the trouble all of the other cliques have to go through if he helps Gary out (not really BUT it’s what he’s told he gets out of it, which, again, valuable).

We also know that Gary is absolutely not above using people to get ahead (Russell, Tad, Johnny, the Townies, Crabblesnitch, even Pete and Jimmy during Chapter 1), so it is not entirely unreasonable to say that he would’ve been willing to “collaborate” with someone to enact the final part of his plans (though, looking at what Derby got out of the deal, it’s fair to call it more of a collaboration than everyone else I mentioned, and that’s likely due to Derby being too perceptive to a guy like Gary to get completely steamrolled by him)

Looking at all this evidence, I believe it is reasonable to say that at some point between Chapters 4 and 5, Gary approached Derby with his plan to get Jimmy ousted and him into power, and Derby agreed to it.

I think you mentioned once on Instagram that the three mages each had a tattoo? Do you know what these are or where they would be located?

Aww yeah, I think I remember that!

Hmmm, from what I can recall (or, perhaps tweak a bit to my current ideas), Prym would have a crescent moon-shaped tattoo above her navel, with a pair of stars on either side (representing her parents).

Tula has a sun motif tattoo on her shoulder blades/upper-back, representing the light of hope she wishes to carry as the "brawn" of the group, whilst providing the best protection possible when times get tough. The sun itself also lowkey resembles a sunflower, which was the flower her mother Milana always adored.

And as for Aevri, she'd have a star-shaped tattoo on her upper arm/shoulder, with three little fish underneath to represent her parents and older sister Elody.

Do any of the main 3 want to enter the competitive side of turf? If not, their reasons for why they won’t?

Slick and Javier are very into the competitive scene, both in turf and ranked. Those two are at each other’s necks a lot, Slick with his massive ego and jovial nature clashing against Javier’s killjoy attitude and need to be better than anyone. Unlike Slick, Javier actually has the stats to show, but Slick nevertheless tries his best, even if the world wants to knock him down. Mochi and Hachikō aren’t very into “hardcore” things, and prefer casual turf. Mochi, while competitive in personality, knows that an actual competition would probably result in way too much stress both physically and mentally. For whatever reason, the overhanging thought of what could be lost if she fails makes her come into a game shaking, stiff, wide-eyed, and sweaty. She’s not afraid, per se, just hyper vigilant, ready for action, not wanting to fail. Hachikō just doesn’t like competitive scenes, not really seeing a point to it in his eyes. He prefers to just have fun if he can, even if his vacant expression while playing says otherwise.

Ok no I do have to make it it’s own post bc I don’t remember the book’s scene in detail but Annabeth seeing the fates cut a string at the arch is so fascinating. Bc we know that’s Luke’s string. He’s not dying soon, but it’s been decided when he will die.

The moment the fates decide that Luke will die and when is right after Percy sacrifices himself. Right after he shows Annabeth his care and loyalty. That she is worth saving. That she doesn’t deserve the wrath intended for her. A set of dominoes has just been toppled and when they all finally fall, she will stand between Luke and Percy and choose Percy. From this moment, from this early on, Luke’s fate is sealed.
