I feel like the Black Bat identity is such a weird note in Cassandra's history because the identity was forced upon her like Orphan was because editorial didn't want her ass to be Batgirl, but a bunch of people like that one? Lmfao.
I do guess it is a better name than Orphan, but she never was given a reason TO BE Black Bat, I would even say the Orphan codename was more developed than Black Bat which is controversial but it's true.

Don't Sneak up on People with Swords
@im-totally-not-an-alien-2 made a prompt about Danny sneaking up on Jason Todd and @sky00asara made a comment in the tags about what would happen if Danny did that to Talia. So here is my version of that! Enjoy.
Talia al Ghul watched her beloved from afar. He was out, again patrolling his city for those he considered wrong doers. Her son was by his side. She scowled at how Damian’s fighting style had changed, softened in the company of her beloved. Despite her love for the man under the cowl, he had a tremendous ability to take even the most ruthless of killers and change them to spare the undeserving. He had even tried it with her.
She was hidden on the roof of an abandoned tower nearby. The tower had succumbed to fire and was now condemned until the city got around to destroying it properly. For now it made the perfect place for her to observe her beloved and her son work undisturbed.
“Excuse me?”
Talia whirled, drawing her blade as she spun. Her blade moved fast enough to almost cut the air itself yet the small shape ducked under her stroke and back-pedaled quickly to move out her range.
“Jeez! Why is everyone in this city so jumpy!”
The voice more than anything made her realize that the person who had somehow snuck close enough was an actual child. Their black hair and blue eyes made her wonder if this was another of her beloved’s adoptees. Except surely this boy was too young to catch Bruce’s eye?
“Well maybe you should not sneak up on people?” Talia hissed, her voice soft yet stern. To say nothing of how a child who couldn’t be older than five had snuck up on her at all.
“Well maybe you shouldn’t brood on the roof of my home!” The child snarked back, just like one of the Bat’s brood would, completely unafraid of the blade still in her hand. Talia raised an eyebrow at him then looked around at the burnt skeleton of the building they were standing on.
“This building is not fit for human occupation.”
“Neither was the last place I lived.” He said dismissively. “This place hasn’t even killed me yet, so it’s practically a paradise.”
She was tempted to take the child’s words as sarcasm, yet something in the way he spoke made her think he meant it more truthfully.
“You’ve died before?” Talia asked. She relaxed her hold on her blade, allowing it to rest at her side.
“Oh yeah, I die all the time.” He said, then he looked at her curiously tilting his head first one way, then another. “You’ve died too, huh?”
She nodded, now examining him closely, looking for the signs she would recognize. She could see the hint of a scar on the boy’s palm that might have caused a death.
“What is it with this town that so many people have died and come back?” The boy asked, apparently rhetorically as he didn’t let her answer. “First the stabby Robin, then the stabby Batgirl, then Batman, and even Red Hood. It’s like everyone I run into is contaminated.”
Talia’s eyes widened.
“You can sense those who have utilized the Lazarus Pits?” She would have to inform her father about this child. He could put the entire League of Assassins at risk. The child before her just shrugged.
“I have no idea what that is. Red Hood mentioned some kind of pit as well, but I’ve never seen anything like that. I just know y’all are contaminated with ectoplasm, though not enough to make a core.”
“What is this… ectoplasm?” Another name for the Lazarus Waters? Had there perhaps been a Pit outside of League control? In the midwest somewhere based on the boy’s accent.
“Oh it’s this stuff.” He held his hand out and Talia couldn’t help keep her expression of shock withdrawn despite all her training as his hand filled with the glowing green light of the Pits. He held the Pit Water in his hand then tossed the glowing orb to his other hand in a half juggle as if he weren’t carrying the League's greatest secret and weapon.
Nevermind telling her father about this child, he could never learn of him. If Ras had the power this child had under his control the world would never survive. There was only one option. She needed to train this child to wield this strength. With the stealth he displayed in sneaking up on her and his power over the Pits themselves he could make an assassin like the world had never seen. He could be the next Head of the Demon under her guidance. She knelt down to the boy’s level, slipping her sword back away as she did so.
“Tell me, young one. Are you living in this death trap of a building all by yourself?”
“Yeah, but don’t worry, I’ve got it taken care of. I know I’m little, but that just means people are less likely to notice me. I’m able to steal all the food I need from that big box store down the street.”
“Oh of that I have no doubt. My name is Talia al Ghul. What’s yours?”
“Hmm. I’m Danny.” The boy seemed hesitant to trust her, which to be perfectly honest was probably a very smart thing to do, but at least she had a name for this gift of Lazarus.
“Danny, how would you like to come live with me? You won’t have to steal any more, or worry about food ever again, and I could train you how to fight even better than the Bats.”
He narrowed his eyes at her, looking her over closely.
“Would I get a sword?”
“If a sword is what you want, then once you were trained in its use I would acquire one for you.”
Danny looked like he was about to nod, but then he froze, his head tilting to the side as if he was listening to something. His eyes widened and Talia tensed.
“Uh-oh. Fruit Loop incoming. I gotta go.”
Talia half turned as she heard the sound of one of her beloved’s grappling lines catching on the building’s edge. By the time she had turned back to face him, Danny had completely vanished. She hadn’t even heard him leave. She stood and scowled as her beloved landed on the rooftop next to her.
“Talia.” He grunted at her, glaring all the while.
“Beloved. Must you ruin every nice thing in my life?” Talia snarled back. The boy, Danny, had the gift of Lazarus at his beck and call and Batman had scared him off.
Bruce looked momentarily stunned at her fury, but quickly hid it behind his mask. However Talia couldn’t care less about her beloved right now. She just needed to lose him so she could return to find the boy. The boy who would change the world with his power.

Honestly why even bother making Jason afrolatino if you're not gonna write him as he is in canon when that's what actually'd make him work good rep for us.What i mean by this is
His ego is huge,he's super tough and an edgelord, has anger issues and brutal ass tactics and is a morally gray vigilante but he's ALSO a huge woman respecter to the point he thinks they're better than men,is extremely kind with a huge soft side and his exterior attitude and Red Hood are trauma responses that're framed as valid on his end so he's not the 'Scary Black Man' stereotype and with the exception of the vigilante part this is actually a pretty common personality type for irl black men-Important note that i don't fall under the attitude but i AM a black man(and woman)
He's been a huge nerd since he's debut in both meanings of it-He's a genius who was a star student in school and loves classical literature, theater and speaking articulately and poetically but just happens not to 24/7 since he's a comic book character, not a Shakespearen one
And his soft sunshine boy with hidden depths Robin self is a critical part of making him as black latino work-You can't go with the retcon of him as a mini thug because it's extremely dangerous stereotyping
Duke as his favorite brother-It's erasure with white gringo Jason but even worse and just stupid because both of them being black would it EVEN BETTER writing they're eachother's number one Batboy pick.Ain't no nigga picking Tim when the only other black guy in the factor is Right There and fuck ya aus, keep Jason white in them and leave afrolatino Jason out of your mess
He hasn't expressed a particular preference for girls he likes but HAS for the ones he dosen't and it's preppy perfect judgemental ones who try to 'tame' him so rip all y'all's white X Readers LMFAO.Worth noting that his canon girlfriends have been a half cambodian tomboy(Rose),an edgyptian butch(Artemis)and a darkskin black woman(Dana)and that he's actively rejected a white blonde girl on the basis of her being too normal(Isabel)and Kory post deblackification so i think it's obvious where his tastes lie
You CANNOT make him and Roy or Batcest a thing-I don't think i need to explain why pairing up a white man who knew an afrolatino since he was 14 and him grown with a daughter and putting him in incest is violently antiblack
Poverty is not inherently bad in black or latino characters and there was a point in canon where it was used as simply an element in Jason's story instead of demonization so use that edition. But making him a drunkard,a smoker or a sex fiend is 100% perpetuating stereotypes and he's canonically the opposite of all three so again, sometimes things that are canon are better
Him being tall and super jacked and intimidating looking can actually enchance it-He uses it to his advantage to get people he dosen't like to fuck off because they buy into the propaganda and gives him more deepness with the rest of his personality
This includes him being a real gamer and his neapolitan food addiction and your headcanons on his other tastes should follow their lead-His favorite characters should be black and latino ones(His favorite Marvel hero is Miles Morales,it's canon to ME),he should listen to black and latino artists,he should eat black and latino food and know how to make it for that matter, etc
Back to a Duke situation-You also can't make a white woman instead of Talia his adoptive mom for obvious reasons and imo if you're gonna make him and Stephanie besties, she should be black too for that black best friends and found siblings rep(She works as a black woman as much as he does a black man and i'll make a manifesto of that like i did him if asked). This applies to the Team Dad Jason take too in the sense that he should mentoring Damian and Nell and Tiffany since they're Batgirls instead of white kids
In summary what i'm trying to say is:If you're going to see Jason as an afrolatino man,you need to go beyond just the aesthetic and little bits you feel like including because you think they're appealing and actually write him as an afrolatino man,as Jason Todd and not some random guy

What is your opinion on Babdick/dickbabs? I personally hate it because it doesn’t look like a healthy relationship especially when Barbara doesn’t seem to love dick all that much
It's not and she doesn't and I don't like them together at all.
Oracle Barbara was mostly fine but I CANNOT STAND Batgirl Barbara and Dick.
Take this comic for instance, Dick and Barbara have broken up (as they always do) and Dick is thinking about it and being sad about their relationship. He calls Barbara to say sorry as he always does
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DC's Crimes of Passion
But Barbara's feelings on the breakup?
Tumblr media
DC's Crimes of Passion
When Barbara says she's scared of needing someone, I can totally understand that. It's a immense feeling and perfectly acceptable reason but-
"I don't know what to call us. I don't even really know what I want us to be. Or what we're supposed to be."
Really?
This isn't the sound of a girl in love, this is the sound of a woman stringing along a man.
She doesn't want to be together with Dick but she's doesn't want to be away from him. She loves him but can't stand the idea of loving him.
And truthfully? I get this too - because I almost did it myself. A guy I'm good friends with asked me out on a date and to be honest I didn't even feel the same about him that way. I was just friends with him and when he asked me I thought about accepting. He's super kind, good looking, and smart and he's an absolute catch. I thought about saying yes - not because I had a crush on him or anything, but I just wanted to be in love. But I didn't because that's a terrible thing for me to do. I didn't have any attraction for him romantically but if I started going out with him just because I wanted someone that would super, duper crappy of me. He's an awesome guy and he deserves way more than that. I didn't want to string him along. It would make me an awful person if I had done it.
To go out with them just because I wanted someone.
Tumblr media
DC's Crimes of Passion
It's the constant back and forth between that I can't stand.
Tumblr media
Nightwing (2011) Annual 1
What. Timing.
I genuinely don't understand what's she trying to get at here. I thought love was about working through the hardest times in your life together, achieving successes together, and always being there for each other. I didn't think love was about falling apart during every crisis big or small. I didn't think it was about breaking up when you felt like it and not bothering to resolve the issues that caused you to break up in the first place.
Later on in the comic, Barbara talks about talking it out later and goes to meet Dick but he had to leave cause he got called for a case.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Really. Now it's on the both of them here. They can't be together because then it's going to be a long distance relationship?
Frankly Dick in a semi and Barbara in a vest is...is there some stereotype about trucker families not working out that I'm missing here? what is this.
That's another thing that bothers me about Dickbabs. They never resolve the issue that caused them to break up in the first place. Sometimes I'm reading them and all of sudden Barbara's like "we should stop seeing each other," and I'm like why??? There's literally nothing going on??
Barbara cares a lot about Dick. She cares about his safety and sometimes his emotional wellbeing but she doesn't love him for who he is. She loves the idea of him but not him.
I swear I used to root so hard for them but it's exhausting to like them together when Dick is dumping buckets of love over Barbara's head while she's holding up an umbrella. And then she takes the umbrella and stabs it through his heart.
She can be super toxic when it comes to Dick.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nightwing (1996) Issue #86
She literally blames Dick for trying to make her happy. In the comic he's doing acrobatics all over the place, fixing her computer so it's easier for her, and generally being overly cheerful for her so she'll forget her pain and become happy at least for a moment and in turn-she literally Gaslights him??
"You can't stop reminding me of what I once was. You can't stop flaunting your own health. You still think you're immortal, Dick, and you're not."
Are you for real?! If someone is walking and you're in a wheelchair, you want them to be in one too because you feel sad about yourself?
And the constant way she talks down to him.
But even this I can sort of understand. Let's throw the blame on Dick here for a split second even though it's not his fault. Barbara is recently put into a wheelchair so she's depressed. Dick is being overly helpful. He wants to do everything for her so he can make her life easier, to alleviate her pain and she's tired of that. That's understandable and honestly they did need a little break here so Dick could turn down his enthusiasm and let Barbara be the strong woman she's known to be. BUT WHY IS SHE BLAMING HIM?? Just tell him you want some time apart to figure out yourself without throwing the blame and breaking the heart of your boyfriend who loves you so much.
Dick here reminded me of family members after their child has been diagnosed with cancer. They want to do everything they can but they don't know how so they keep smiling through the pain and being as positive as possible.
Here's my main issue with Dickbabs. Writers are incapable of writing the two of them together in a way that lifts both of them up.
They got it into their heads that to make Barbara look smart, they have to make Dick look dumb. That to make Barbara look skillful, they have to make Dick look incompetent.
But hey it's unfair of me to use Nightwing comics only (DC crimes of passion isn't a nightwing comic but the point still stands) to talk about Dickbabs.
I'm not saying all Dickbabs is bad. There's a couple that are good like this one
Tumblr media
Batgirls Issue #8
They're so cute!!! They look so hot together too
Tumblr media
but. Writers as always are incapable of writing Dick as a strong independent character that relies on Barbara.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Batgirls Issue #8
Sorry, Dick - who has beaten Batman, destroyed Justice Leagues, runs superhero teams with some of the strongest metas in the world and has beaten them without breaking a sweat - just lets himself get kicked and punched around for fun? Are you trying to tell me that Dick only fights because people insult Barbara? I can't believe I'm saying this but Tom Taylor has written better than this.
Their love can be so one sided.
She abuses Dick as an emotional outlet for her anger and resentment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nightwing (1996) Issue #87
Context: She's blaming him for being sexually harassed by Catalina. Catalina earlier broke into their date night, beat Barbara up in the wheelchair, kissed Dick and kneed him to surprise him before Dick beat her off Barbara.
And not only is she busy victim blaming him, she's also busy calling him incompetent. And Dick's rightfully mad that as a vigilante of nearly two decades she's telling him he's pathetic.
And what does Bruce have to do with anything here? From the Titans, we know that Dick's greatest fear is turning into Batman. They fight so hard to protect him from it, and what does Barbara do?
"Congratulations. You've managed to turn into Bruce."
This makes me the most mad though-
"Bludhaven was managing a long time before you got here."
The anger I felt was incandescent. Why do people fight crime Barbara? I guess Bruce should just call it a night and take Batman for a nap forever. Why was Batgirl created if Gotham was managing before Batgirl even existed? In one sentence, she's managed to trash the multiverses of superheroes.
No wonder Wally wants Kori and Dick together. Barbara's mad at him for protecting her against Catalina. If Dick had just kept sitting and waiting for the bodyguards in that fancy place then Barbara wouldn't be severely injured. But oops. His bad.
After he punches the board she gets mad and leaves and Dick's emotional well-being goes on a downward spiral.
I have other issues with them because Dick's relationship with Barbara diminishes his canonical relationships with the superhero community.
Again - writers' problem.
So...complicated. They could be amazing if written right but right now I'm wavering between being indifferent to them and disliking them. They should seriously just be friends instead.
I need to clarify something first. Barbara Gordon herself is fine. She's cool. But when she's with Dick? The way writers write them as well as her own personality comes out in the worst, most toxic ways.
And that's not even getting into what writers did to Kori's personality and Dick's morality. They just dashed decades of Teen Titans comics to make both of them look evil.
That's not even touching the atrocity of their Dark Nights: Death Metal scene or the way Barbara victim blamed Dick for having amnesia.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Batgirl (2016) Issue #50
This is so unfair. She can victim-blame Dick for having amnesia because she's mad at bruce but if Dick even yelled at her when he's mad at Bruce, it would be an International Incident in the fandom. Where's the equality in this?
I know Barbara is pretty mad at other things in this scene but she has a tendency to use Dick as an emotional outlet
Tumblr media
Batgirl (2011) Issue #3
She's literally beating him up because she's upset at losing her fight against some villain and thinking about her own insecurities. He just dropped in to show her some love and help.
If Batgirl Barbara only acted this way in Nightwing comics, then I would be inclined to say that the writers have a preference against her. BUT she's acts like this in the Nightwing comics, the Batgirl comics, the Batman comics, the general DC comics, and practically every comic that has them together. Given that DC is rooting for Dickbabs and trashing Kori for it, there is literally no reason for her to be acting this way. And the thing is, Dick's other relationships have been fantastic. Not just the big ones, but the minor ones too that people forget have been full of love. So why can't they write Dickbabs that way?
I didn't even know how bad they were together until recently. I just kinda glossed over all the toxic components of their relationship because, you know, "girlbossing" right? But there's only so many plot holes you can sell to your readers before they start questioning the legitimacy of your product. Thus my feelings about them have changed.
This being said, I don't like them romantically but I love them as friends. When Barbara is just working with dick as crimefighting partners or friends, they make an awesome team and they're so fun to read. I just can't stand them together as lovers anymore. And really, even their good Batgirl/Nightwing lover moments just seem like it's them being good friends.
They have the potential to be great.

same person who said teehee(batfam related again xx)
so anyway!!!
you also mentioned that Selina likes y/n, and I seriously need a small drabble w their interactions! I bet that's why y/n likes cats so much! cause she was hanging out with Selina or with Selina in almost all her patrols hihihi
I hope you enjoy this anon. I just made them into HC, I hope you don't mind. Though if you aren't satisfied with it feel free to send another ask. 😊
Selina meets y/n when she takes the role of Batgirl. It's an average night for Gotham. Stealing jewels and whatever catches Selina's eyes. Then there's a little squabble with Batman.
She puts down her bag of stolen goods to fight. She is so focused on fighting with Batman that she almost doesn't notice the figure taking her bag and starts trifling though it. They take whatever they're looking for and place it back to where it belongs.
Batman and Selina are fighting while Batgirl! y/n is trying to put everything back to the way it was.
Oh, no there's some broken glass! Batgirl! y/n goes to the janitor's closet to grab a broom and sweeps up the glass. She might have pulled out the mop if she didn't notice an opening for her to strike.
The kick to the back didn't hurt Selina in the slightest, it just caught her off guard. Though Batgirl! y/n acts like she just stabbed Selina.
Blabbering about how she's sorry and hoped that it didn't hurt too much. But Selina fondly remembers how Batgirl! y/n admitted that she thought her cat ears looked cute.
After that they'll have little interactions every so often.
Maybe if they have a fight or something Selina will say, "You don't want to get hurt do you, Kitty?" Then young Batgirl! y/n smiles. Slightly puffs out her chest, "I'm no Kitty. I'm a Chickadee, that's what my Mama called me." Selina then just calls her Chickadee after that.
Young y/n finds out about Selina's real identity when at a Gala. She's probably goofing off with Tim or just sitting alone bored when she hears a familiar voice call her Chickadee.
She thinks it's a big secret knowing who Catwoman really is. Doesn't tell Bruce or even Tim even though they knew long before her. Thinks she hot shit with this information and believes she's just best friends with Selina than the other two. No, y/n you aren't supposed to befriend the criminals!
Honestly a few villains might hear about the little nickname y/n was giving and mock her. "What are you going to do about it, Chickadee?" She always pouts a little before saying, "You aren't allowed to call me that!"
If there was a big fight going on, Batgirl! y/n was severely injured Selina would jump in. Depending on how bad the injury is she'll either defend y/n from anymore harm or just kidnap her.
y/n wakes up in a cozy bed with some cats laying around her. She's convinced she's found haven. Spends the rest of the night with Selina as she introduces y/n to all her cats.
They just have a little soft spot for each.
y/n wants hugs. She's a touch starved goblin, but she's too scared to ask. Though if she just asked Selina, she'd gladly give her as many as she wanted.
At the start y/n isn't given too much "freedom" during patrols. She's still young, inexperienced, and not to mention she can be a bit innocent. Though when she has a few years under her belt, I could see Bruce begrudgingly letting her patrol on her own.
This isn't where the family neglect starts, so Bruce is pretty connected to her. Not to mention that Jason was probably still in the back of his mind.
I couldn't really see y/n being one to skip patrol duty. Too much of a goody-two-shoes to really do that. Though I could see Selina coming by to play around and distract her from her duty.
Selina could be doing this from boredom or wanting to see the girl relax. A kid shouldn't be so serious. They should be growing up and being care free. She'd also like for y/n to grow up and not become so brooding like her father. Though thankfully y/n is willing to entertain Selina from time to time.
If things are calm, they might sit in alleyways to pet stray cats while chatting. Their conversations are nothing serious and quiet mindless honesty, but it's nice.
They can both just take a breath and bask in the cuteness of the alley cats.

hello..! probably a silly question, but how does one get into comics. i'm specifically interested in cass and steph but wanna get into the batfam as a whole and i have no idea how 😭 i'm like can i just start wherever? but then i do not know where to start. it is all very confusing to me. sorry if you're not the right person to answer i just really love your stephcass art (and your dinahbabs ZOO WEE MAMA 😍) and figured it wouldn't hurt to ask ^_^
not silly at all!! i got into comics for cass and was super overwhelmed by people saying you could start wherever so i promise youre not alone in feeling like that
i personally started off with cass's main run, Batgirl (2000), with really only having watched btas so a lot of things were a very big surprise to me (BARBARA) but it honestly does a really good job of introducing you to the most? of the batfamily (including steph). its mostly from cass's pov so youre meeting a lot of these people at the same time she is and i personally found that really comforting.
i would def recommend starting just a little before batgirl 2000 though with:
First appearance: Batman (1940) #567
Follow up: Detective Comics (1937) #734
She gets the suit: Batman Legends of the Dark Knight #120
First solo story: Batman (1940) #569
and my personal favorite: Batman: Gotham Knights #2
you could honestly just read the first two and jump into batgirl 2000 but theres a little extra context surrounding the batgirl suit and how it originally belonged to Helena Bertinelli (shes the person in the batgirl suit for the first part of cass's first appearance) that you dont really need to know to get into cass but is still important.
if you want a more in depth cass guide (way better than mine i promise) please check out Val's reading guide !!
after seeing barbara as oracle in batgirl 2000 i got into birds of prey (i also have a little guide for that -> )
and then after into STEPH (Gwyn has a really awesome steph guide that you should def also check out) and so on
it seems scary at first but once you pick someone you want to read about and get into them, other characters will catch your attention and youll want to know more about them and thats how most people get locked into this evil evil comics trap.
if you do see someone else you want to read about you can just type their name in the tumblr search bar with "reading guide" after and someone will 100% have one waiting for you (AND THANK YOU FOR THE KIND WORDS I HEART YOU)

You guys ever think about how Bruce feels when one of the batlings call him Dad? Or refer to him as their dad? Or how he feels when he steps into a fatherly role for a bat?
I mean yeah its mostly done in public, Dick has always called Bruce Dad or refer to him as his father since he was old enough to go to galas. And yeah at first the word felt like nails scraping down a chalk board because Bruce isn't worth being a dad, not in his head at least. He was still in his twenties, and Dick already had a dad. One who loved him. But he tolerates the word anyway, because its just to keep up appearing right?
Nowadays, having repaired their severed relationship, Bruce wants to hear the word. He misses it but he doesn't dare ask. But when he reveals that he officially adopted Dick and he hugs him and says "I love you Dad." Bruce can't help but cry, sob quietly as he clutches his son in his arms. "I don't want to replace your father." He says, begging his voice to not waver, it doesn't listen. "You're not," Dick responds, "You're just standing on the same level as him. My dads and my mom. My parents."
When Barbara becomes Batgirl Bruce is terrified. He knows the kind of sick freaks out there, who ogle her in her Batgirl suit. It makes his blood boil the way any father's would. Except he isn't her father. She has Jim for that. And even if she's dating Dick, Bruce can't seem to figure out why he's treating her like this, why he's keeping her patrol limited, why he's texting Commissioner Gordon in panic whenever she's late. Jim laughs and says its like they're co parents and something in Bruce's heart jabs.
When she's paralyzed by the Joker Bruce isn't sure what to do. He pays her medical bills and has a back and forth with Jim, "Its my fault he found out she was Batgirl!", "He didn't, he did it because she's a Gordon! It's my fault!". Bruce crues over her in the comatose state, apologizing over and over, its his fault, his minds been made up. When she becomes Oracle there's nothing he wouldn't do to accommodate her. Barbara may not legally be his daughter, but she kind of it his first daughter.
When Jason comes around and starts calling Bruce dad at galas, he's more comfortable around the word. He can be a dad to Jason, Jason didn't get to have a good dad but Bruce bought a parenting book (What to Expect when Moving from Raising One Kid to Two) and he's handling it. But then he dies and Bruce is met with the guilt of knowing that he failed his son. Because even though Dick was his ward and first born, Jason was the first one he was okay with referring to as a son.
And then he came back and Bruce is no longer dad. He's B or Old Man. Its better than "the asshole who let me die" so he'll take what he can get. Except once at a gala Jason has a bit of a Freudian slip and refers to Bruce as his dad and he leaves the room to burst into tears. Jason doesn't hate him and while he's grateful part of his mind knows he should. He deserves to be hated, Jason is just too much of a good person to do it. But it doesn't matter, Jason's still his son and his heart still stutters whenever he's reminded of that. Jason is his son, his boy.
When he meets Tim, Bruce is scared all over again. He doesn't want to be Tim's dad. Tim already has a dad—and in Bruce's self loathing mind, a neglectful father is still better than whatever impersonation of a dad he could be. But Tim is stubborn, he latches on and somewhere along the lines after his emancipation, Bruce realizes that he's Tim's dad. And he wants to be Tim's dad. And he won't fail Tim the way he did Dick or Jason, he made too many mistakes with them.
Tim sometimes feels out of place. Bruce doesn't know why, he belongs into their family (cult as Jason says affectionately) and Bruce will always remind him of that. Tim is his son and Bruce will never get over that, he gets to see this boy grow up to be great. And maybe when Tim's sleep deprived he calls Bruce dad, but thats between him, Tim and the tear stained pillow on Bruce's bed.
And then there's Steph. Stephanie Brown forced her way into the Batfamily by dating Tim and even after they broke up, she's not leaving. And Bruce doesn't want her to. She's made it clear she doesn't want to be a Wayne officially, she's fine just being Steph. Except, Bruce kind of thinks Steph is like his daughter too. She's not just some random girl he finds overly bubbly, her bubbliness reminds him if Dick, her street smarts remind him of Jason. But despite that Steph is so unique. And even if she has a dad, Bruce can't help it. He personally decorated a room at the manor for her, had it painted purple and everything. Steph might not be a Wayne by name, but she is in everything else. And Bruce is kind of okay with that.
And then there's the two kids who refer to him as their dad all the time.
Cassandra Cain becomes Cassandra Wayne and she never looks back. She rarely speaks, she's content with sign language and you best believe the rest of the family learns it to communicate with her comfortably. But something in Bruce's heart flutters when she refers to him as Dad. When she signs about one of her dance recitals, Don't forget dad! Or when she's bragging and boasting at a gala about him, My dad's not like that! He's really nice!
And then there's Damian. He couldn't run away from being his father if he wanted to. Which he doesn't. Damian called him Father, rather stiffly for the first two years together. But then one day he's talking to Jon and Bruce isn't trying to eavesdrop but he's not perfect do he does and he hears Damian refer to him as Baba and he almost trips over his own feet. Damian, ever the observer, notices him immediately and then he's suddenly calling him Baba more often, Baba I'm going to walk Titus or Baba, Grayson is trying to hug me again. Doesn't matter the context, hearing Damian utter the endearment makes his heart melt every damn time.
But when Duke rolls around, heartbroken and unfairly orphaned, Bruce is terrified all over again. He's not ready to force Duke into accepting him as a father, Duke has a dad. Bruce doesn't want to replace him. But Duke, much like Tim, latches on. He needs a father. He needs one to guide him, to help him forge his own path. And Bruce can't help himself. He's a father. He's Dukes father.
Bruce being a dad but hating himself for it while loving his kids but hating that he's forced to be their dad because the world was cruel to them.

Several small BatFam notes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@moss-covered-thoughts (I'm answering questions and providing information for DPxDC fans.)
lol don't worry about it! Nothing about you talking about your fic will make me feel left out! I'm just happy to help you out with your work! If anything will make me feel left out, it's the lack of rogues content and people within this fanspace underutilizing Vlad and not having much of that juicy, juicy polycule content (specifically Vlad/Jack/Maddie) that I keep coming back to Danny Phantom for. :p Speaking of, I want to be as transparent as I can with the information I'm giving out, because just like all comics fans, I'm not an expert on everything and I am very much in my own specific niche and haven't read everything out there! I'm actually not much of a Batfam fan and am much MUCH more of a rogues fan! (Specifically my hyperfixation is focused around Harvey Dent and Two-Face.) So while I do have some information about the members of the batfamily, my knowledge isn't nearly as comprehensive as someone who's deep dived into that part of the DC universe! I'll give you the information I can, and hopefully someone with more cohesive Batfam knowledge can reblog this post with extra notes to fill in the holes I have in my knowledge. >.<
Adoption Order
So I can't tell you the specific specifics of adoption specifically, but I believe that the order of each member joining the Bat Family would probably be along the lines of: Dick Grayson -> Barbara Gordon -> Jason Todd -> Tim Drake -> Cassandra Cain -> Stephanie Brown -> Damian Wayne -> Duke Thomas.
Batgirl and Duke recs
Again, I haven't read much Bat Family stuff because my primary focus is on the rogues. But I do have a handful of recs! If you're willing to watch a long-ass video instead of reading, I would actually highly recommend Linkara's retrospective on Cassandra Cain and here's the link to said video! It's very good and goes into just about every major comic appearance she was in at the time of the video first coming out (in 2019)! You will get a very good image of her character from that, I like Linkara's analysis, and by watching that video, you will definitely be able to come away from it with a number of recommendations for both Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown! (He does talk about Steph some in this video, but it's limited.)
Speaking of Stephnie I'm sorry to say that I don't really have any recommendations for Steph as I sadly have just not really happened to come across any works that have her in them in my poking around in different comics and related media. But honestly, while I can't give you any recs for Steph, maybe you should toss Linkara (@atopfourthwall) a message! He's actually a decently active Tumblr user and given that he wants to do a different retrospective on Stephanie Brown, certainly he would have things to recommend!
As for other Cass reccomendations... The only thing I have in my back pocket is Spirit World. It's not about her, it's a solo series about the brand spanking new character, Xanthe Zhou, but Cass IS a main character in it, and people seem genuinely happy with what they did with her in that story!
If you're looking for good Barbra Gordon content... Well... Personally I would recommend giving her episodes in Batman: the Animated series or the issues that include her in The Batman Adventures a look-see...? It's always a solid time with her around in B:TAS, or in the Batman Adventures! They characterize her very well in those serieses!
If you want both a Cass and a Barbra suggestion... Maybe check out No Man's Land...? Asking you to read all of the comics that were part of that saga might be a little much, but there is a novel adaptation of the No Man's Land storyline out there, and personally I listened to the reading of that novel as done by Graphic Audio and it is genuinely excellent! Like, the marketing may be tacky, but it is on the level of quality as something like an audio drama podcast or a Big Finish Audio. It just happens to be a book reading. :p But No Man's Land IS where Cass was first introduced, (also where Harley Quinn joined the comics universe fun fact!) and it has plenty of good moments from Barbara in it too!
As for Duke... Honestly, if you aren't already reading the Wayne Family Adventures, then you really ought to. >.< That series is available for free on webtoon and the first several strips have him as the main character before it becomes more of an ensemble cast thing. (And in case you were wondering it IS official DC media!) >.< I also haven't read much of Duke's stuff, and so in terms of his backlog, I really don't know what to recommend. The one story that I did happen to read that heavily featured Duke... Was "My Own Worst Enemy" (it's like volume 1 of All-Star Batman) which was... Fine...??? Like, as a Two-Face and Harvey Dent story, it was pretty bad and ablest in how it portrayed Harvey's DID. (But this isn't necessarily unusual for books that include him... SIIIIIGH!) But it was also incredibly stupid and fun, and had a lot of good forwards momentum and offered a number of interesting ideas that I don't entirely hate! So overall I find it... Fine... But as a Duke story... Honestly it's not bad as far as a Duke story can go! And the back-up story for that little arc (the Cursed Wheel) was pretty alright too! I do feel like after I read My Own Worst Enemy that I did understand Duke just a little better as a character! So while it's not good... You might find it to be decent in what you're looking for...? Because I really cannot speak on any other stories he's been in. >.<
So uh... Sorry about my whole limited perspective thing... But I do hope that you find some of this useful at least! I wish you the best of luck in your writing endeavors!

Sception Reads Cass Cain #24
Tumblr media
Batgirl (2000) #9 Words: Kelley Puckett Pictures: Scott & Campanella
The end of the 'Cass gets her powers back' arc, some good stuff in here, including Bruce going to Cain in the hopes that he might gain some new insight into how Cass was trained in the first place that will help her now, while Cass goes out to find Shiva, who is able to give her what Bruce can't, in exchange for the promise of a proper fight to the death a year later, establishing a new temporary status quo and letting Cass's Batgirl title get back to the mostly stand alone stories, at least for a while. I'm sick as hell right now, so once again we're just picking out a few scenes to look at in more depth, but you know the drill, this is still mostly the original team, still ~mostly~ on their A-game, so yeah if you've never read it before go check it out.
So Bruce sneaks into David's house, again, this time trying to find insight into David's training techniques that might help Cassandra, and there's this little flashback sequence via David's proud papa family films (please forgive the more-extended-than-usual cut and paste):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Setting aside the comic-book unreality of the scene, It's important for a number of reasons. For one, it again contrasts Cass's two father figures, who are otherwise so often in parallel.
Yes, they both drive her towards isolated lives of violence and darkness, and away from everyday life in the light and normal human interactions. Yes, both love and care for her, but also see themselves echoed within her so strongly that they end up treating her more as extensions of themselves, as protege, partner, agent, or legacy, rather than as a person in her own right who should be allowed and encouraged to live her own life.
but Bruce has lines he won't cross, and David doesn't.
More than that, though, we get to see here something that Bruce can't.
Tumblr media
Bruce sees David crossing his lines and snaps into vengeance mode, all black and white morality. "You weren't training her, you were just abusing her." But while shooting Cass was absolutely abuse, it was also training, and more importantly than that it was play. It was a game.
Tumblr media
Look at that smile. Even in the middle of tremendous pain, Cass is having fun. She's playing a game with her dad, and winning, and her dad's going to be so proud of her for winning the game.
These are the sorts of extremes little Cass was not just willing but eager to go to in order to earn her father's approval, and Bruce is too distracted by his own righteous indignation at her abuse to register this dangerous and self destructive character trait - central to who Cass was even before she was consumed by guilt - or realize how her new life as Batgirl is feeding it.
Yes, David abused Cass in ways that Bruce never would, but rather than helping Cass recover from that abuse - instead of offering Cass the kind of unconditional parental love that would allow her to start living for herself instead of for a father-figures approval - Bruce is instead using Cass's abuse in furtherance of his own crusade.
And that's something that's only possible because Bruce refuses to acknowledge Cass's gleeful participation in her own past abuse. 'David abused her, but I never would. I'm not forcing her to join my crusade, I'm simply allowing her to do what she wants to do, and if what she wants is to be just like me, that's just because we're so much alike' - ignoring how her abusive upbringing influenced what Cass wants or how she behaves towards father figures.
...
Sadly, as with a lot of this early set up stuff, we don't ever really get a proper payoff to this. Creative teams change and characters are retconned and terrible editorial decisions are imposed and by the time any stability returns to Cass as a character not only is this intricate web of character connections gone, the structure it was built on also no longer exists.
.....
Anyway, Cass is also in this Cass comic, asking if Shiva can give her back her powers.
Tumblr media
It's kind of a cheap cinema-sins ding style complaint, but... how exactly can Shiva give Cass back her body-reading ability? Especially so quickly and easily? Especially without any impact on the language centers of Cass's brain which used to be processing the body reading stuff and are now processing language? Like, there isn't even an arbitrary wizard here. This bit works on an emotional or story logic level I guess, but always felt kind of arbitrary. Especially how Cass was able to have both the body reading and normal speech after this, when they were so deliberately positioned as an either-or sort of thing before.
Tumblr media
But whatever! We're not doing that anymore! And the looming death match that Cass expects to lose ties so closely to her core character motivations that I'm cool with it. But I talked about that stuff at length last time, no need to re-hash it here.
Tumblr media
David Cain and Lady Shiva are problems for the future. For now this little stretch of serialized stories is over, and Cass can go back to episodic Batgirl adventures for a bit, only with more narration I guess.

Hey, hey, love your blog and I was wondering if you had some insight here. To what extent do you think the way DC has written characters like Cass Cain, Damian Wayne, Rose Wilson and Lian Harper over the years provides actual good representation of racialised people?
Like yes, they’re non-white character but how important is their non-european cultures, histories and roots to their personal identities (or if that matters)? Does the jarring orientalism in the depiction of their non-european backgrounds take away from the positives? Is the constant absence of their racialised parent a harmful trope that’s needed to be amended? Is Damian’s lack of connection to specific, real-life peoples, histories and cultures just feed into the orientalism (like what’s he representing exactly)? Are they maybe best written and read as “third culture kids” living in the US?
Sorry for bombarding you with questions. I guess I’m just asking is DC giving us good representation here and how could it be better. Answer however you’d like to if you’d like. :)
I'd say I'm probably not the best person to answer this b/c I'm white. I can answer what I do know (in terms of "here's what happens in comics canon, here's what other people have said"), and then maybe someone can chime in with their experiences if they want?
So, multiple people have spoken out about the racism inherent in Damian has to choose between his good white dad and his evil brown mom/grandparent. DC also generally has erased nuance from the al ghuls, Ra's is portrayed as a cartoon villain who'd be OK locking a child in a box in the desert for not tying his shoes right in Tom King's WW.
I think that they really do need to put Talia in Damian's story and make her in character, and not treated as someone Damian needs to break away from or someone who is harmful to him. Like we saw Talia working against her upbringing, we saw her disliking Ra's' ideas.
DC does frequently only bring up Damian's heritage when they want to villainize him. That was a big thing in Teen Titans 2016 where the comic where Glass started the character assassination arc was also where they mentioned him speaking Arabic and eating in an Arab restaurant.
I know @fatheriimaginedyoutaller wrote an article talking about how DC handles it's biracial characters focusing on Damian
Cass in general the writers don't talk about her heritage at all, which makes sense from a world building perspective - she was raised by her white dad in isolation - but also... they chose to write it that way. Sarah Kuhn, writer of shadow of the batgirl, who is Japanese-American, is the only writer I can think of who got into talking about it.
in general how they're best read best written... I can't say in that part. I can say DC has been racist a lot.
I didn't get into Lian and Rose b/c I've read less of them... Rose again IIRC her heritage is barely ever mentioned. Perhaps it changes in DS2016? I haven't read more than a couple issues. Her mom definitely is written with a lot of Marv's stereotypes and ideas of how an asian woman "should" be, and in general... the comics introducing her felt very racist to me.

Do you perhaps have stephcass recs?
*shows up literally over two months later like a person who takes a normal amount of time to answer asks* yes hello I do have stephcass recs
unfortunately I have been known to answer these things too quickly and then read better fics that would have fit the prompt and then I can't get anon to send me the fic request again (smallville!clois anon I'm begging you to give me another chance) so when I saw my meager collection I decided to wait until I had something to pick from
and we all know what shipping a sapphic ship is like. hell, I'm not even exempt from this. so many phenomenal sapphic ships just get relegated to secondary or even tertiary pairing and never get their own quality stories. and I'm a picky reader as is, so...
anyway I've gathered a few of the best fics I've encountered that actually focus on our beloved batgirls I hope you enjoy!!
Meet Me Where You're Going is such an easy read considering it's the longest fic on this list. it deals with the batgirl mantle and the circumstances surrounding Cass giving it to Steph and also deals with you know just the drama of falling in love with the person who's most important in the whole world to you. it's plotty but not a casefic per se, mostly just using the plot as an excuse to move the emotions along
The Haunting of Wayne Manor is a historical au in that it certainly takes place before cellphones and depends on governesses being normal but I have no idea when it takes place otherwise. it's tagged as gothic horror but I feel like it's mostly atmospheric. idk how to describe this it's really good and the writing is really intricate I had a lot of fun and was on the edge of my seat the whole time
seven different kinds of light (welling up inside you) - autistic!cass needs to figure out if they're sisters before they make out, which is fair
lost in translation is sooo cute like Cass thinks Steph is afraid of her because she's never seen a crush enacted upon her before and so like nerves and butterflies are coming off all wrong lmao. Cass's bodyreading skills can't defend her against the useless lesbian pitfall of SHE LIKES YOU OH MY GOD
finally for today, sanctuary in haunted city #1 is a no-capes au where Cass has been off in Hong Kong for a while and Steph has somehow never even heard of her despite being incredibly involved with the Wayne family (still dated Tim, for example). Cass moves back to Gotham and Steph is immediately smitten. it also has a bit of the "are you my sister" angst but really only for like, six seconds. sooo cute
anyway more people should write stephcass fics. it's on my list after the bajillion of other projects I'm in the middle of but until I get my life together and write every idea I've ever had I beg of all of you to please just write something for stephcass they deserve it

So sorry about this sudden ask again, but it's a batman vibe rn tonight
In Batman Beyond, Terry doesn't really have a Robin, he has Max, but she's not a Robin, maybe more of a batgirl/batwoman to be one day or Oracle, but that's for another time. What I'm getting at is Terry's Batman needs a Robin to fulfill the role and identity as Batman, because the duo need each other to properly exist.
While Terry does have his little brother, Matt, eventually become Robin in his comics, I think there was a HUGE missed opportunity for that underground kid to become Terry's first Robin. Darius Arthur Kellman (if that's how his name is spelled), aka, DAK, from the episode "Where's Terry" in season 2. The way the episode portrayed this kid gave off a dynamic to him and Terry that I honestly thought was going to be brought up again later on, but didn't. DAK said he didn't want to listen to people and to eventually become someone like Blight, Spellbinder, or to join the Royal Flush Gang one day. He didn't like Batman at all. But as the episode goes on, he starts to see things differently and we can start to see the changes in this kid. Although the episode ends with him going home and we never see him again, I thought it would have been amazing to see this kid grow into a better person because of Terry and change his idols into other people. Not Batman, because the kid is too stubborn to admit he respects him now, but someone like Robin.
Maybe DAK gets so inspired by Batman (Terry) that he goes out and trains himself to be the next Robin. He already has a great foundation for being a hero, the kid just needs more mentoring by the bat.
What do you think? That was just me rambling, but what do you think about Terry getting Robins of his own/expanding the 2nd generation batfamily?
Oh it has been way too long since I saw Batman Beyond! But I totally agree that Terry should have a Robin because that dynamic is central to what made Batman work (and if we're being meta, Bruce's deteriorating relationships with the batfamily are a large part of why things are messed up in Terry's future)
But I do remember DAK! And I think he'd make a great Robin for Terry since it's all about balance. Terry isn't quite the dark brooding character as Bruce so he needs a Robin that's a bit more serious. I also love Matt as Robin just because I love the brothers being a team. But if Bruce could have a bunch of Robins then so could Terry!

you said you were looking for asks so i thought i'd jump in with: 3 (or 5, whichever you'd prefer) favourite comics ever? if you're feeling fancy, two lists, one in terms of quality of the actual comic, and one in terms of character moments etc
Ok so i'll make a list of my top 10 and say why (i'm also not exclusively doing DC comics but they are the majority):
Batgirl (2000): do i even have to explain this one? the art and visual storytelling makes me ill, the way it explores cass's character through her relationship with established characters like bruce and babs, the way cass is so fucking unhinged, the mother-daughter comparisons with shiva&babs vs the father-daughter comparisons between cain&bruce AASSFHFKSDF. ILL.
The New Teen Titans: this one holds a lot of nostalgia for me because it was one of the first comics I read! They were the first team i really latched onto and by extension the first characters i really felt strongly about. Rereading it as an adult and seeing how it still holds up is soooo incredibly satisfying (dickkory was baby's first otp)
Spinning by Tillie Walden: technically cheating because this is a graphic novel but I'm counting it because it's included under the umbrella of sequential art. it's a autobiographical graphic novel about tillie walden's experience growing up a lesbian in the south (of the US) through their relationship with figure skating. i really relate to it and it's a massive inspiration for me and i think everyone should read it
Impulse (1995): ...i'm audhd...it hits a very special and specific place in my heart...but in all seriousness i love the shape language and the character dynamics. god the cast is soooo fun
Robin & Batman: i love introspection and this whole comic is just Dick Grayson introspection. The way it covers Dick's emotional state post his parents death and how Bruce didn't really know how to help Dick outside of guiding him in channeling his grief into being a vigilante makes me insane...also the alfred characterization in this...the implication that he thinks he made the wrong choice by enabling Bruce and wanting to rectify that by not enabling Dick...
Spider-Gwen (2015): The art and concept is what drew me into this comic. I've been a spiderman fan since I was a little kid and the idea of gwen stacy being the spider person...AND SHE WAS A DANCER.. i was hooked. I love gwen as a character on a meta level and in general; she's my girl
Convergence Batgirl: listen...the implications this comic has about steph and cass's relationship...the "what do my eye's say" scene...lovers. teeny tiny baby run but im still counting it as a comic
...Is it cheating to say Young Justice 98? Imma say Young Justice 98: it was a gateway to me finding a bunch of characters that are now my faves. It shines a spotlight on characters we don't see all that often (like Cissie, Cassie, Anita--girl i miss you) I think about this comic constantly
Tea Dragon Society: another graphic novel! this is a comfort read for me! it's cozy it's sapphic it's a low-stakes
Batman/Huntress Cry for Blood: again this feels like kind of cheating BUT its my list so this is what I'm going with. This was my introduction to Helena and omg the feelings i have about her because of this comic...she makes me bonkers...the things i'd do for this woman
Bonus: JLI (i have not ever finished this one but i've started it many times and i love it i just need to actually finish it)

On your sexuality post. Can you elaborate on why cass and tims interactions would prove shes into dudes, id get it if you used kon but TIM?? TIM AS IN HER BROTHER TIM?? I hope to god your not implying what i tbink 🤢
They're not related by blood you know... How is that kind of shipping disgusting in anyway if one does not think of them as brother and sister since oh, you know? They're not actual siblings! The only thing that's closest to them being siblings is Bruce adopting them and he isn't even their biological dad. I don't personally ship them fyi, but I just don't understand what is not right about him into her or vice versa if they are not related by blood?
I sincerely hope you do read the comics and I'm not saying for sure or if it's even a fact that they're into each other cuz you can never be so certain, but the hint is there. Fandom can be fun and enjoyable but sometimes maybe you're just forcing yourself into the headcanon that they're something like blood brother and sister which is not true at all. They're simply close in age, are colleagues in the comics and even if the relationship was retconned later on, it was still a thing written by DC so idk, it's official?! Like okay, maybe by that logic you implied right there, shouldn't Steph and Cass be siblings too, since Steph is literally Robin no.4 or do gods forbid them to be like siblings since they're quite often shipped together and they're best friends? Yeah I just don't understand what you're trying to tell me here.
Though the reason I don't ship them is because the idea of Cass dating her best friend's boyfriend just doesn't sit right with me but that doesn't mean it wasn't implied she might have been into guys too. And admittedly, I haven't caught up on Cass and Kon so I still have a lot of reading to do.
Okay, since you've asked, first off: Batgirl #18, their first platonic interaction after No Man's land.
Tumblr media
Then secondly, War Games and Identity Crisis, Tim losing Steph and his father, Cass losing her best friend, and so they bonded over mutual trauma and loss. And they bonded in Batgirl/Robin: Fresh Blood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we have these:
Batgirl #58
Tumblr media
Red Robin #25
Tumblr media
Ok to be fair, she stabbed Tim on that one.
And this one, idk which comic it's from but there you have it.
Also, Solo (2004) #10, a married couple.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like come on, are you really gonna tell me I'm problematic when the comics do be drawing them interacting like this? If this isn't enough then I dunno, maybe you should spend more time researching on each of their interactions, or take time to read the comics then go back and tell me what is wrong with everything I said, honestly. And yes, I will read up on Cass and Kon to see more, but you really need to understand that the batfam is a found family and not strictly related by blood, except for the case of Damian, so let people ship whatever they want, even if it's not your thing, because they. are. not .related. by. blood!

Ever fancied someone you know you shouldn't?
"Ever fancied someone you know you shouldn't?" Batgirl asked. Her gaze locking with Robin momentarily before back to you with a smile. "You try to ignore it but you can't help yourself but look for a little longer. It hurts that you can't have them but you wouldn't change that feeling for the world." She smiled. "I shouldn't talk about him." You said quickly. "Oh. There's a him." Batgirl smirked. "What's his name then?" Never in a million years did you think you'd be interrogated about who you were attracted by Batgirl. With another million years, you never thought your boss would hear. He was supposed to have escaped by now, leaving the vigilantes clueless as to who you boss was.
The Riddler: "Edward." You managed out. "Edward huh? Tell me about him." She coaxed. "He's super smart...like crazy smart." You began. "His eyes light up and he's so passionate. I can't help but want to encourage and praise him even though I have no idea what he's talking about." "Does he like you back?" She asked. You shook your head. "He wouldn't...I don't think he's interest in relationships or dating. He's a workaholic. Besides even if he did, I'm the last person he'd be interested in. I'm not very special." Edward's heart pounded in his chest. Eyes wide as he tried to stay quiet. He couldn't bring himself to leave like he intended. It was the plan but he couldn't move. The vigilantes had no idea you worked for the Riddler. Just like they had no idea he was there and heard everything. You didn't know either, thinking he was long gone. His mind raced, nothing coherent, nothing worthwhile. He had to move. He couldn't deal with this right now. Even if he knew he was denying his own lingering thoughts the second they, once again, arose to the surface.
Scarecrow: "Jonathan." You said quietly. "Ohh, and what's he like?" She pressed. "He's smart but quite reserved. He has these beautiful blue eyes. I could get lost in them forever." You began. "He can be quite cold but he doesn't mean to be. I think it puts people off but ive learned to see passed all of that." You smiled. "He's passionate about learning and seeing him work is captivating." "Do you think he likes you back?" She asked and you shook your head. "I don't think he even knows I exist most times." "Well he must know, he hired you didn't he?" Robin replied. "Yeah but I think he forgets about me. I'm not exactly his first choice when needing help." Unexpected, he'd give you that. Although he very much knew who you were. He thought more about you than he probably should. He kept you out of the more dangerous things finding himself unable to concentrate if he doesn't. All he can think about is where you are and what you're doing. So he took you to the less dangerous confrontations. Had you play your part behind the scenes. He didn't think it ever register to you as not knowing you. However he isn't too bothered by that. He could handle that as long as you were out of the way. Atleast until he figures out what fixation he seems to have on you.
Two-Face: "Harvey...his name is Harvey." Even just saying his name, they could heard the fondness in your voice. "What's he like?" She asked. "He's a little rough around the edges but he's lovely. So lovely." "Sounds like he could be a good guy, even if it's hard to see at first." Batgirl replied. "He cares. Everyone always said that about him but I never thought I'd see it for myself." You nodded. "He's loyal. Those he cares about, he keeps close and protected." "Does you think he likes you back?" She asked. You shook your head. "He's too good for me. Way out of my league." Robin hummed. "I'll tell you one thing. I don't believe in the whole league thing. If the person is the right person then it doesn't matter where they were or came from. As long as they see you as their future and you accept each other's influence. There really is no such thing as 'leagues' getting in the way of a relationship. Only if you make it a thing. You know?" Harvey was taken aback. He wasn't out of your league. You were out of his. He was damaged goods in more ways than one. He knew you thought highly of him but to this extent? Yet you got something a little off. Harvey doesn't care about everyone, he doesn't care about his employees. It's only you he's went the extra mile for. Although he thought he was good at hiding his soft spot for you. However, you seemed to misinterpret it that he shows kindness for some others. He wanted to tell you he doesn't but if he did, that would bring more questions. He couldn't have you prying. So he'd bite his tongue from this day on, he'd leave it alone. What you don't know, can't hurt.
Black Mask: "His name's Roman." You replied. "Woah, thats quite the name. Sounds like a tough guy." Batgirl raised an eyebrow. "People see him as this really mean guy and he is but he can do good." You nodded as though eager to convince them. "He's funny." You smiled. "He doesn't show that side to him very much but when I see it. I feel my heart throb." You swallowed. "Everyone turns their head when he enters the room." "Wow. Do you think he could like you back? "He's important, those types never notice people like me." You shook your head. He wanted to chuckle and he wanted to scoff. He did internally. He didn't sound like a tough guy. He was a tough guy. Although it didn't seem to completely work on you like it did everyone else. You were right, he shouldn't notice you. He was above you. Yet...he did. He noticed you all the time. He noticed when you laughed to yourself when he was being funny. He noticed how your awed expression when he took charge. He noticed your fear when he got pissed off. He noticed everything about you. Atleast you weren't fooling yourself with the idea he was a good man. Perhaps he could do some good but it was always for his own gain. After this, he can't help but get the feeling he'll notice you more.
Penguin: "Oz." You managed out. "Yeah? Like the Penguin?" Batgirl asked. "Yeah, apparently that guy got my boss into the name. He'd always say anything was better than Oswald." It was a lie but a believable one. "What's he like?" Batgirl asked. "He's determined, works hard. He gets underestimated a lot but I think he's wonderful." "He's loyal to the ones he cares about. He didn't think twice about giving me money when I needed it. I didn't even ask. He just insisted I take it." The vigilantes were idiots. Good to know. How many people are called Oswald!? He wouldn't forget that. "Like the Penguin, but not him." He could laugh. Although it was nice to be noticed and twice as lovely to be believed in. He had always had a soft spot for you. You were lovely. You were a good one. Whilst it had never crossed his mind, he was far from inclined to reject you. In fact it only made him more interested in you. He'd never really given it much thought until now. To be seen and by someone so lovely? He couldn't help but smile. That soft spot just got bigger.

Now that it's november get ready for "Jonathan Crane mopes because Halooween is over" time. He will be extra cranky this month and not even the horrifying screams of his text subjects will give him the same level of joy it usually does.
Get ready for more Jervis trying to hype him up with tea partys and mind controlling/abducting random citzens and other rogues alike so he can fill his tabble. Crane is the only person who is there voluntarialy and he isn't even happy with it.
Prepare for Pamela to offer her own toxins to help Crane study and use to improve his as a way to sheer him up. November is the month the most unique special new batches of the fear toxin are developed and they are truly something.
Rejoice at Harley Quinn beutifull shows of friendship as she does her very best to cheer Crane up. Including horror movie maratons, psycology discussions, finding impressively creative ways to terrorize Gotham, hugs, a fenomenal hot cocooa (she actually shares it with civilians too!!), judging uggly halloween costumes and just being very supportive.
Notice Riddler actually being less noisy for once because Crane apreciates the silence. Edward will also provide Crane with new tecnology made specifically to fear toxin people (be by gas, injection, or any form tbh, it rly doesn't matter). The good side is that he won't be doing crimes as he will be helping Crane and trying to not make as much noise. The bad side is that in december Crane will be heavilly armed up and with new toxin batches.
Don't try to confort the crying Killer Croc after Crane hurted his feelings. Unless you are a kid, Croc does not hurt kids au contrary he will probably play with you and give you a toy (some are made from human bones but hey such is life).
BE AFRAID. Because Crane will not work with Joker in november and while that means less potent smilex it also means mopey Joker (it only last the first week of november because Joker has a very poor atention span, but still).
Get ready. Calendar Man didn't comit his october crime for fear of Crane's retribution. But november is fair play.
Help you local baby vigilante. Red Robin is kindda friendly with Crane when no murders are being comited (he actually helped get Scarecrow murder rate lower by his positive influence) what means he heard a bunch of cranky retorts and he already hears it from the other bats already. Robin may punch Scarecrow even without a crime because mopey Crane annoys him. Batgirl is blonde wich increases the chance of her being kidnanpped to the tea partys, she will help the civilians to go through it without getting hurt and arrest Tetch. Blackbat is fine, actually, mostly she just worries about her gf being kidnapped by the MadHatter. Signal has to deal with Crane comiting crimes during the day, a thing he only do in november because and I quote "the darkness of a perfect Gotham night only reminds me that the all hallows night is far away". They need your support. Ofter them a hug, maybe a cup of coffee.
Red Hood is Red Hood and Nightwing it's in Bludhaven so they are fine. No need for extra mesures, just treat them like you always would.
Warning:
If mopey Scarecrow enters your home offer him a tea and a horror novel and coment about how you miss halloween already, bonus points if you or your house have a gothic or emo style and extra points if you still didn't took your Halloween decorations. He still will spike your tea, but the dosage is low as he is pleased with your gothic spirit, if you want a higher dosage just ask him, he will be glad to give it to you and provide you with a fresh bash of toxin for future use (legal disclaimer: this PDA should not contain pro-drug advertasing but them the GCPD should not have hired a high schooler to do it because they are lazzy and/or hate tecnology).
P.S: If you please him, Scarecrow will also provide you with great book recomendations and maybe a dark chocolate bar that may not even be spiked!! There was ONE case of a friend of mine, Mina you're great, that got one of his books because her decoration as great, her tea delicious and she wanted extra strong toxin. It's a copy of Dracula (probably a reference to her name) and even has some notes in the margins made by the Master of Fear himself. Soo cool.
