I really like how you write Sinbad. Your portrayal of him is very cool. That's all I wanted to say.
Tumblr media
Thank you!!! i like to think i put a different spin on him because a lot of people don't write his perspective post canon/final arc because you have to parse through "what the hell is he thinking" but i write it that way because i think it works well with angst hehe...
I actually wish more people used his perspective for post canon/final arc stuff as i really don't think i do him justice lol but i understand why people cling to the sindria sinbad but i think he's just so much more interesting when he's in csetiphon sfdkjlfsd
i think im a bit different where i don't write because i necessarily like something but i write things because i think they're interesting, anyway im really happy you've enjoyed my portrayal of him!!!! tho i do accept any criticisms people have had too!!!

Some Of The Magi Characters Seeing Someone Offer Free Hugs
Tumblr media
Characters: Aladdin, Morgiana, Alibaba, Sinbad, Masrur, Judar
Warnings: Perverted behavior
Paring: Characters x GN Reader
Notes: None
Summary: Someone’s offering free hugs! Will the characters accept? And if so, how will it go?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aladdin
- Okay. It could go well, or it could not go well
- That all depends on how much titty you got
- He’ll happily hug you but if you got boobage then he won’t let go and will literally suffocate himself in public
- He walks away happy either way
Morgiana
- When this person approaches her and asks if she wants a hug, she’s a little confused but shyly accepts
- She kinda just stands there during the hug with her cheek puffed up from them holding her against them
- She looks super cute and is very huggable but she has to be in the mood for her to give good hugs
- She doesn’t mind it though and walks away with a tiny smile
Alibaba Saluja
- He’s a bit confused because he’s all like: “You wanna hug me? Really?”
- But he accepts and if you’re a female then he accepts with a blush on his face
- He’s a bit awkward but only because he’s still processing it
- He brightens up a bit after that but if you’re female then he won’t stop bragging to people
Sinbad
- This man would gratefully accept but even more so if you’re a female
- He’s confident during it and gives a secure and warm hug
- If you’re female then he’ll hold you a bit closer and longer
- He’ll leave you craving for more with his irritatingly gorgeous smirk and charming nature
Masrur
- He doesn’t hug people
- Unless they’re a female who has big boobs
- He’s stiff during the hug too but if you’re the lucky, well endowed female then he might relax a little
-Doesn’t care much after
Judar
- Only if he’s interested in you
- Otherwise, tough luck
- He’ll smirk and give a side hug that feels a bit threatening depending on who you are
- He leaves after like two seconds to go annoy someone

Xianbad! *cackles* a Sinbad/Untamed au Below cut: au notes and cursed concept photos cause I'm too busy to draw them 😅😅
I rewatched Sinbad sometime last year and was hit in the FACE with this idea! The color palettes!! I watched the movie in like a fever of ideas but then it just faded over the year until me and my sister started talking about it recently and we're seriously considering writing a fanfic or something together. Mwhahaha but for now here's this sketch idea and some notes!
au notes: · Sinbad: wwx · Proteus/Marina mashup: lwg · Crew: Wen siblings, mxy, zy · Syracuse (main city): Gusu · Monster (either sea monster or that giant fish): xuanwu of slaughter · Wwx's ship is named Chenqing · The book of peace and the goddess Eris all stay the same · Tartarus has burial mounds vibes · Basically same exact plot - wwx and lwj knew each other growing up and big time Flirted but then wwx left/was thrown out of the Jiang (high status family) for some wen drama or something and left to be a pirate and lwj never sees him again until wwx's crew attacks his ship while he's transporting the book of peace to Gusu and he's all "...Wei Ying..." etc etc!

Ok weighter block and request block is Killin me so I thought about this ask
Can you do any 5 ships from any fandom you do x female half spider baby reader
Like reader is in her egg and the egg falls into one of the ships hands and then they say the reader there's now please and thank you
Ooooh interesting. Also everyone who reads this If you don’t like any of the ships I ship then either skip that ship or move on from this post as I don’t care if you don’t like it that’s your opinion and I’m not going to just stop shipping them because you guys don’t like it as it’s my opinion and we all have different opinions and different ships so do take that into consideration before you go wild and comment something you shouldn’t as I’ll just delete it anyway, this is your first and last warning, thank you.
Warning: noob author, female child reader, platonic yandere characters, and others.
Characters: sinbad x jafar (magi), tighnari x cyno (genshin impact), muzan x yoriichi (demon slayer),
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Magi!sinbad x jafar:
Drakon found an egg while out picnicking with his wife, he believes the egg was either abandoned or something happened terrible happened to the egg’s parents.
(Remember that she said half so the spouse could be female and the spider half could be male or we could go the male x male route as magic does exist and it could help make that happen and maybe even without magic.)
He decided to bring you to his king and his wife so that they could decide on what should happen next.
Sinbad was curious on why one of his oldest friend brought an egg to him and his wife until he heard the reason.
Jafar decided to take care of the egg as if the egg is in the wrong hands like kou empire then danger will soon come with whatever is inside the egg becoming a weapon of sorts and didn’t want that to happen again like it did with him.
(It’s been a long while since I last seen magi sinbad so I could be remembering it wrong or something but I think that kinda happened with jafar like he was turned into a weapon until he met sinbad and all I could be wrong.)
Sinbad was onboard as he was thinking of having a child with jafar, he wouldn’t mind if the first one wasn’t from both him and jafar as it would help them get started on how parents should act.
When you hatched you were nothing like sinbad, jafar, and the generals were thinking you’d be, it would seem you’re arachnes what with the spider features you have but there’s also some other creatures feature they can see but it’s less than your spider half of what they can see.
Your spider half allows you to climb on walls (unless the other half is also something that can climb on walls then ignore that lol) so you’re a troublemaker if you want to do something but your parents, uncles and aunts won’t allow you, though jafar seems to always be able to get you down whether it’s by coaxing you, getting you down with his strings or using his weapon on his strings to climb up there and get you himself. You mostly get this influence from watching sinbad and what with sinbad teaching you some things you shouldn’t know which gets him in trouble, the two wouldn’t have it any other way.
Genshin!tighnari x cyno:
Collei found an egg while scouting with some of the other rangers she described to bring it home as she could tell by the state of the nest that the parents are no more.
Tighnari was surprised to see collei carrying a fairly large egg after getting back from routine scouting to make sure the forest is in check.
Once she explained what she saw tighnari decided to raise the egg as there was no telling what could happen to it once it hatch especially with the fatui and their experiments that they do on people and creatures.
Cyno was surprised like tighnari first was at the egg being in his shared home with tighnari, though he soon understood when both tighnari and collei explained what she had seen and the possible outcome of the parents along with what might happen if the egg falls in the wrong hand seeing as how they don’t know what could be inside the egg until it hatch’s.
They took care of you until the day you hatched, making sure you were warm and such, there were a few scares but thankfully nothing bad has happened as far as they know.
The day you finally hatched was when it was thundering outside making tighnari, collei, and cyno plus the others in the small village stay inside so as to now get soaked and sick.
You were a hybrid, with your spider half being the most noticeable feature than you other half. Thankfully all his equipment to do a check up on you were inside the house so he can give you a check up after you hatched instead of going out in the rain which would most likely get him sick and that won’t be good especially with you just hatching the same day as the storm and you can get sick as well if he does, you were checked up and the results came out fine as you’re healthy like any other baby born.
Demon slayer!muzan x yoriichi:
Yoriichi had found an egg while scouting for any demons that would come that night but all he found was the egg.
Yoriich brought you to muzan and suggested that they adopt the egg and care for it.
Muzan out of fear of angering yoruichi and having his end by him agreed, not knowing that he will also get the same parental instinct to take care of you.
Muzan made sure that the upper and lower moons are to take care of the new demon heir and if harm should come to the egg then he would gladly make them wished they protected the egg better.
Muzan kept the egg away from Douma as he knew that the rainbow-eyed upper moon is unpredictable what with him having no emotion and to make sure that the egg is safe he leaves it with kokoshibo and akaza as he knows those two are more responsible than Douma.
Though sadly the two usual babysitter had to be unavailable as they were on a mission to find the blue spider lily and the rest of the upper and lower moon wasn’t really trustworthy to take care of you except maybe nakime but she is busy as well, so muzan sadly left the egg in Douma’s care not without giving Douma a warning that he should not bring danger to the egg and protect it at all cost or else consequences will happen.
You had hatched in douma’s care a little before muzan had arrived so while waiting for muzan douma began telling stories about muzan even though only he understood himself as your still just a baby and too young to understand him talking, all you knew is that this male with the rainbow eyes is not your mother who you heard through your egg all the time in the past. Muzan arrived a minute or so later expecting to see his child still in a egg but is shocked to see that there is a baby with spider like feature surrounded by egg shells, he immediately knew that you had hatched as he can see the slime that is usually in a egg on your small spider hybrid like form who is giving a bored look at Douma who still is telling stories about muzan. Muzan quickly left with you after rewarding Douma with more of his blood and went to his home to introduce you to yoriichi.
(A/n: hope y’all like it! I sadly couldn’t do 5 fandoms as it was hard to find two other fandoms that could go with this but I still hope y’all like it 😁 anyway I think that’s it so hope y’all have a wonderful day/evening/night!!)
All of the book owners (so far) are the fictional authors of fictional fables and stories.
Mother Goose collection has Cinderella, Master cat or Puss in Boots, the sleeping beauty in the wood, little red riding hood, the fairy (all written for Louis the XIV in the 1690’s appx… the Grimm brothers are more relevant retelling sod the stories for an 1800’s Germany
Scherezade from 1001 Arabian nights started as one thousand nights and evolved to what is is now known as titular and story content wise. Having the ebony horse, the thief and the merchant, the adventures of Sinbad the sailor, and Aladdin and the lamp.
An interesting tidbit if the most famous stories from the collection (Aladdin and the Genie, Sinbad the sailor and Ali baba and the 40 thieves) they were either independent and added in later editions or added for the French publication in the 1830’s
And Aesops fables are from Ancient Greece and contain the basis for all fairy tales and fables such as the tortoise and the hare, the boy who cried wolf, the lion and the mouse, and others.
All of these story tellers also share things in common, all of them are either historically (Aesop) or designed to be (Mother Goose and Scherezade) people who are not wealthy, do not hold a position of power but wants to help the future.
Aesop was a Greek Slave who wanted to document the oral stories being told amongst the common folk and to also make commentary on the politics happening as well. With the commentary being seen as moral lessons for the children to grow and learn with.
Scherezade is the extremely learnéd daughter of the Vizier who agreed to me the next bride for the king to stop him from killing all the virgin wives he had. She constantly gets him to postpone her execution with the fables and changes his mind so he doesn’t assume all women will cheat immediately after sleeping with him. Giving the reader an idea of what knowledge can do.
Mother Goose is supposed to be a village woman who met a goose who laid golden eggs for her and eventually spun tales for the children of the village, entertaining and imparting lessons to them.
They all have some aspect of their stories that undermines their influence on change as well. For Aesop is is his state of slavery, for Scherezade it is volunteering to try and avoid death as long as humanly possible, and for Mother Goose it is the witch connotations that came about.
All of these coincidences and similarity paints a beautiful picture of humanity and imparting knowledge to the youth reading them but to have them all be relevant? WHY BRENNAN LEE MULLIGAN! WHY?!?!?!?!?!!?! WHY ARE ALL OF THESE SIMILARITIES APPARANT?!?!!? WHAT IS THE REASON?!?!!? WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE?!?!!?
(Hi I am a Double Major in Psychology and History currently on a national scholarship research program, I just did a research paper on how popular media in each time reflects the politics of the time, meaning I did a LOT of digging into 1001 Arabian nights in terms of Orientalism, Mother Goose fables for the return of theatre (because of pantomime and an evolving comedia del arte) and Aesop was recent boredom research. Please message with questions if present!)
Hot take: I am SO TIRED of the pessimistic thief/conman trope
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I never found it really engaging or interesting--in the case of Tulio and Dimitri, it's not really explained why they are the way they are, and Sinbad and Flynn get the typical "poor kid ostacized and turned into a thief" backstory, none of which is given in anything more than brief detail. In fact:
NO ONE ever brings up the fact that even after Dimitri develops feelings for Anya and BEFORE he finds out she's Anastasia, he still involves her in the con, lying to her and willing to scam the dowager empress out of her money. He doesn't feel bad about lying to either of them; he only feels bad that he's been lying to Anya once he finds out she's really who he's been pawning her off as. She had every right to be mad at him, and I never see the fandom mention this.
Tulio is never given any type of backstory, nor is Chel, Miguel, or Tzekhal-Khan. No one gets any type of explanation for who they are or where they came from. It holds the movie back, imo. But honestly the reason I dislike Tulio is the reason I like Miguel; Miguel doesn't fall into the trope.
Sinbad's movie felt like it was full of rushed characterization, especially his romance with Marina. Plus he never comes off as charming or as clever as he's supposed to; he just comes off as kinda sleazy and a terrible friend--except at the very end because of Eris' test. She did that one to herself. He was willing to risk his friend dying simply because he thought his dad wouldn't allow it--which he was right about, but Proteus still wanted to risk it, regardless. I think we can all agree that Proteus deserved better.
Flynn feels so mature and jaded in contrast to the innocence of Rapunzel that he feels almost fatherly to her--I wouldn't be shocked if he was in his 30s. Their romance just didn't click until the end for me, and even before that, Flynn--like Sinbad and Tulio--is thrown into comical situations and doesn't come off as super charming. I feel like he would've been more endearing if his "Eugene" side was secretly a nerdy/emotional person who was hiding himself due to toxic masculinity or bullying--but I guess this is why I'm not hired to write movies. I'd have preferred his Bastion deleted concept.
a/n: here is a little sinbad: lotss drabble! don’t know if the fandom is still out there but here is my humble brain rot… enjoy! (reblogs are greatly appreciated <3)
☆*:.。.
Sinbad stands alone in the quiet of the balcony alcove, away from the hubbub of the party. It’s a rare sight, thinks Proteus, as he creeps up behind him, pressing a cold cup to his cheek. “You’re not one to miss a party,”
With a grin mirroring his, Sinbad takes the cup, leaning forward on the white marble railing. “It’s nice up here,”
Proteus leans against the pillar, shooting an amused glance his way before his eyes land on the sunset beyond the horizon. “Are we getting sentimental now?”
Sinbad chuckles, a deep sound that resembles more of a purring tiger. “That’s usually you, Proteus. Today, I seek quiet. Tomorrow,” Sinbad briefly steals a glance to his left; Proteus is still lost in the melting colours of the sky, his gaze faraway, like he’s floating amidst the shifting colours and clouds. Sinbad looks away with an inward sigh, unable to say what they both already know.
The party is still raging on; discordant conversations and excited hollering ring out amidst the commotion, followed by a series of barks and screams, and the music effortlessly picks up once more.
Proteus lets out a breathy chuckle, taking another sip from his cup. “Marina too, isn’t she? She’s also leaving,”
“Yeah,” Sinbad says with a shake of his head. “She’s got her own ship now, and a dedicated crew… all in such short time.” he frowns, “I think she might be better at this than I am.”
This elicits a laugh from Proteus, and Sinbad relaxes, looking up as their gazes meet.
“Marina comes very close,” Proteus puts down his chalice and steps forward. He tugs Sinbad’s collar, straightening out the creases of his blazer. His hand brushes over his chest as if to dust away something, his motions deliberate. “But no one does it as best as you,”
Sinbad almost swoons as Proteus’s cologne washes over him, but he steadies himself, desperately focusing on the little mole by his lower lip.
“What else am I best at?” Sinbad says quietly, just for their ears. Proteus’s eyes light up with a knowing grin.
“Why don’t you show me?”
Sinbad groans, unable to take anymore of his teasing and he closes the distance between them to catch his lips in a deep, fervour-filled kiss. His hands wrap around his waist and another carts through his hair, let down in loose waves tonight. Proteus backs him up against the railing, hands gripping the marble on either side of them as he deepens the kiss. There’s something urgent about the way he’s pressing into him, snuffing out the slightest space between them, angling his head to grant Sinbad deeper access into his mouth.
They only separate when their lungs scream for air, and even then they don’t step apart; their foreheads press as they catch their breath, and Proteus’s hand comes to rest on his wrist. Their hands are the same size and calloused, but Sinbad’s is rougher, while Proteus’s fingers are slender, familiar to the sword and pen. It’s a great difference, and he wonders briefly how Marina’s hands look like now.
Sinbad turns his over to weave their fingers together. “I’ll write often,” he offers this assurance, to which even Proteus seems dissatisfied.
“I only need one thing from you, Sinbad,” he leans away to get a good look at him. “That you stay safe, and return to me in one piece.”
A beat of silence, the crashing of waves against stone beneath them, and the droning of a party behind. “Those are two things,” he points out.
Proteus breaks into a smile, eyes crinkling and he shakes his head.
Sinbad traces his finger over his heart in a cross motion. “If not, Eris can-”
Proteus clamps a hand over his mouth. “Come on, Sinbad.”
He relents with a gleeful grin.
“Shall we return to the party?” Proteus asks, picking up his chalice.
Sinbad glances toward the sea. The skies are a dim, dusty blue now, swallowing the last minutes of daylight as pinpricks of silver begin to dot the skies. The views out at sea cannot compare, but there’s nothing quite like a starry night over Syracuse.
“Not yet,” Sinbad finds his hand once more, resting them on the cool marble. “Lets stay a little longer.”
DreamWorks4Me
If you've seen the news, DreamWorks as a studio is going through a huge change. They're going to start outsourcing every movie from now on and laying off almost 50% of their staff.
This makes me really sad for them and their legacy, so I wanted to share with you my fondest memories of their movies. Feel free to do the same!:
I didn't have a The Road to el Dorado copy while growing up. My best friend and neighbor had one and we would have an afternoon snack in her home, watch The Road... and then play. This was one of the two movies we rewatched the most.
I've always loved Chicken Run. I had this huge poster of it, but threw it away when I had a nightmare where the chickens started jumping from it. I still think it's Aardman's best movie and the one with the best soundtrack (which was also my introduction to both Harry Gregson-Williams and John Powell!).
I sort of remember how Shrek knocked it out the park. There was a before and an after in animated movies.
While a lot of people say it's a bad movie, I kinda like Sinbad. The adventure, the character design, the places and Eris, of course.
I like Puss since his first appearance in Shrek 2.
I really like Over the Hedge. The music is great and the concept interesting. I remember reading the actual comic strips in the Sunday newspaper and I still have some of them.
While Shrek the Third is not that good, I really liked Artie for some reason. That's why one of the characters from my book Gotxinka is called Artii!
I wasn't much interested in Kung Fu Panda at the beginning, but it grew on me. One afternoon, the second and third movies were on TV, so I watched the first one and then put the other two on TV, binge watching the three!
How to train your dragon was the movie that helped me out of my depression and got me into cosplaying, drawing fancomics and writing fanfiction. And also got me into watching almost everything in English.
I love Megamind and will be forever mad I couldn't watch in on cinemas.
I know people don't like it much, but I find the Puss in Boots movie enjoyable.
I really liked Rise of the Guardians and it's a pity they didn't make more stuff with those characters. I almost cosplayed Toothiana, but did a casual version of her instead.
I couldn't watch The Croods in cinemas either, but I watched it in English a while after and fell in love with it! It's so creative and the relationship of Guy and Eep is so sweet.
I did my hair like Astrid to watch HTTYD2. That version of her outfit is my favorite cosplay of her.
And, of course, Riders of Berk were the first series I watched in full English. I didn't have Netflix when Race to the Edge aired, so I would get up early to watch someone streaming it and I had a blast. I didn't know if I should watch Trollhunters, but I saw a video with Kelsey Grammer and I'm so glad I gave it a try! The show helped me in one of my lowest moments (like HTTYD had done years before).
Is It Really That Bad?
Tumblr media
Disney and Dreamworks have been locked in combat since day one, and honestly, can you blame them? The Katzenberg/Eisner feud is pretty legendary, with both men taking potshots at each other in films, and the drama behind stuff like A Bug’s Life and Antz has been done to death. The thing is, in the early years of Dreamworks, it was pretty clear that no matter how hard they tried, Disney was the one who was taking the Ws when it came to the cinemas. Stuff like Sinbad and The Road to El Dorado were flopping pretty hard, and while The Prince of Egypt was a success, the failure of the former two ended Dreamoworks’s hopes of ever competing with Disney in the 2D animated market. What’s a studio to do in a situation like that? Well, someBODY ONCE TOLD ME...
Tumblr media
Shrek didn’t just solidify Dreamworks as a contender, that movie changed the course of animation in the 2000s all on its own. With its snarky humor, pop culture references, awesome pop soundtrack as opposed to musical numbers, and celebrity cast, Shrek codified many trends for animation going forward—for better and for worse. But whatever impact the film had pales in comparison to one simple, unignorable fact: This movie came out on top over Disney. It won the first ever Academy Award for Best Animated Picture, and considering how long Disney was in that game that must have really fucking stung. While Disney spent the early 2000s floundering and releasing flops that would only become cult classics later, Dreamworks was riding that green wave Shrek produced all the way to the bank. What’s a studio to do in a situation like that? Well, someBODY ONCE…
Tumblr media
Oh no.
Chicken Little was Disney’s blatant attempt at making their own Shrek (with blackjack! And hookers!), but to say that things didn’t pan out well for Disney there is a vast understatement. Michael Eisner made sure to meddle as much as possible, turning a more straightforward adaptation of the fairy tale into a snarky, self-deprecating comedy about baseball and aliens, which certainly is a choice. This choice had some dire consequences; while not a bomb by any means, the film ruined the already-struggling career of The Emperor’s New Groove director Mark Dindal, producer Randy Fullmer left Disney with Dindal and went into making guitars, and ultimately Eisner himself became a victim of the film as well, with it being the final blow to his tenure at Disney after a decade of failed investments. Eisner ended up passing the torch to Bob Iger, who turned out to be a better leader than Eisner who never did or said anything quite as stupid!
Tumblr media
Audience reaction to the movie has always been pretty mixed, to say the least. Reviewers on YouTube such as Schafrillas, Doug Walker, and Mr. Enter have used the film as their punching bag at various points, with the latter in particular helping shape the image of Buck Cluck as Disney’s most vile father figure. Audiences these days aren’t particularly receptive to it either, with most people considering it Disney’s absolute worst film, though there are nostalgic viewers with a soft spot for it. I first watched the film myself a few years back, and I was thoroughly disgusted and unimpressed by what I saw; for the longest time, I had it higher than Doogal on my list of the worst films ever. Fucking Doogal! Can a film really be that bad?!
Well, I decided to give it a second chance and find out if maybe my perception was just colored by all the negative reviews. Is Chicken Little really that bad, or is this just a so-so Shrek ripoff that people overreacted to?
THE GOOD
Most of the characters in this movie are actually decent, even if they’re a little cringe. Chicken Little himself is a likable dork, which only makes all the suffering and setbacks he goes through that much harder to watch; I think they made him too likable, y’know? His friend group is pretty solid as well, with Abby being an okay love interest, Runt being a nice guy (or maybe I should say Nice Guy considering what he does with a bimbofied Foxy Loxy at the end), and Fish Out of Water being a cute “lol so random XD” character. They aren’t the best thing ever, but they’re all pretty decent. I can see why Zach Braff likes voicing the title character so much, and it is cool he got to be in the best Kingdom Hearts game, so that’s something!
Tumblr media
Though of, course none of them hold a candle to the absolute Chad that is Morkubine Porcupine, a character so fucking cool that he refuses to give this movie the dignity of more than three single words out of his mouth. If he had more dialogue, the whole movie might collapse under the sheer power of his voice. He’s like Black Bolt, except a porcupine, and in a marginally better piece of Disney media.
Tumblr media
There’s a great sequence at the end of the movie that has a Pee-wee’s Big Adventure-esque film within the film about Chicken Little’s exploits… except he’s a ridiculously buff rooster voiced by Adam West in a film that looks like an insane version of Star Fox from the brief clips we see of it. Runt is in there as a hardcore, ugly warthog and Abby is an overly-sexualized space bimbo, but I’m not even particularly bothered by the fact they gave the girl chicken breasts because Adam West’s chicken breasts are so much more massive.
Tumblr media
The entire scene, as brief as it is, is delightful thanks to West being West, and it honestly makes you wish that the whole movie was just a ridiculous space battle adventure… And everyone’s wish was granted when they released a pretty good video game based on this silly concept!
Tumblr media
Of course, as is typical of any Disney movie, the best part is without a doubt the villain: Buck Cluck, Chicken Little’s own father.
Tumblr media
 In his youth, he was a strapping sports star, and because of this he feels a deep sense of shame at his son’s wild antics and is completely unable to relate to him. He constantly puts him down in front of others to try and salvage his own reputation, throwing him under the bus at every opportunity and refusing to support him. And even after Chicken Little pushes himself to the limit and becomes a baseball star all so he can earn even the slightest smidgen of his father’s respect, Buck is quick to cast him aside once more all so that he can try and keep the dignity among the townsfolk he mooched off of his son’s victory. Buck Cluck is the proto-Mother Gothel, a distant and absent parent for the ages, and one of the most despicable foes the studio has ever produced. Hell, I might even go as far as to say he’s one of the greatest villains of all ti-
Wait, hold on. I’m being informed that Buck… isn’t intentionally a villain? He’s supposed to be… sympathetic…?
THE BAD
I’VE COME TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT! BUCK “THE CUCK” CLUCK’S A BITCH-ASS MOTHERFUCKER!
Tumblr media
Ok, ok, let’s be serious for a second. I’m gonna get a bit controversial here, but Buck Cluck isn’t nearly as evil as people make him out to be.
Tumblr media
Let me explain: While the film’s narrative completely and utterly fails to make his redemption feel earned at all, it’s not like he was ever really intentionally or even physically abusive like Frollo, Gothel, or Lady Tremaine were. Buck Cluck has a very real problem a parent can have, in that he has a hard time relating to his son while being a single parent that is likely still dealing with the loss of his wife. The issue is the movie doesn’t bother trying to flesh him or his feelings out and tries its damndest to make him look like a good guy all while he emotionally neglects his child.
All this being said, his vocal performance from The Princess Diaries director Garry Marshall is actually pretty great, he gets a few good jokes here and there, and it’s actually really endearingly goofy when he overcompensates with loving his son in the third act. While I’m never going to stop treating the character like he’s Chicken Hitler, I want it to be clear that my jabs at him are very much in the same vein as someone like Huey Emmerich. The difference, of course, is that Huey is an intentional case of making a character you love to hate, while Buck is accidental. And that’s why this segment is here, in “The Bad” part of the review: The movie failed this man so bad that he is put alongside characters like Shou Tucker, Ragyo Kiryuin, and Fire Lord Ozai in animated parent rankings. How do you fuck up that badly? Mainly by deleting the scenes where he actually gets development or characterization beyond being a lousy parent, that’s how!
Tumblr media
These writing issues don’t just affect Buck, though; literally the entire movie is as messy as that Kentucky fried bastard’s characterization. The main issue is with the story itself. Now, when you have a movie called Chicken Little, you kind of expect an adaptation of the fable of the same name. And since this is Disney, you wouldn’t be stupid to assume that’s what they’d do, considering adapting fables, myths, and fairy tales is basically their bread and butter. But that is decidedly not what they did here; instead, they decided to make Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius by way of Shrek, because movies like that were popular at the time, and what we’re left with is a film populated by mean-spirited jerkasses who do nothing but dump on our likable main character as he takes part in a story to win the love of his dad via baseball that suddenly, out of completely nowhere, turns into an alien invasion movie about halfway through. Absolutely none of these elements work well together, and the film comes off felling like it was stitched together from unrelated scripts and turned into an unholy Frankenstein of bad ideas.
Not helping helping the disjointed story are the desperate attempts to seem cool. I like Morkubine Porcupine, he’s one of the better gags in the film, but he is so plainly a desperate attempt at creating an ensemble darkhorse that it hurts (the fact it actually worked in spite of this is nothing short of miraculous). The humor is very much aping Shrek, with lots of snarky humor and mean-spirited characters which ends up not working because it’s too cruel, and even ignoring that the pop culture references (a staple of Dreamworks at the time) just all come out of nowhere. Why is the fish reenacting King Kong? Why are these animals watching Raiders of the Lost Ark, and why is Indy still a human? Why did Disney think referencing the lemming suicide myth was a good idea when they literally perpetuated that myth by driving lemmings off a cliff for a movie?
Then there’s the animation. It is so blatantly obvious that this is Disney’s first time making a fully computer animated movie without Pixar’s help. A lot of characters look really unpolished, and even worse is that a lot of the characters are extremely overanimated. If you wanna see what I mean, watch Abby at the end of the dodgeball scene when she’s talking to Chicken Little. She just never fucking stops moving! Once you notice it, it becomes really distracting.
But by far the worst thing this movie does is the constant needle drops. This movie would make The Super Mario Bros. Movie blush with its overuse of licensed music, and it sure feels like Suicide Squad took notes from this because they cram so many tracks in here it’s not even funny. Sometimes they even just have thew characters sing them because… who fucking knows. Barenaked Ladies gets a pretty fat W with their song “One Little Slip” playing over our introduction to Chicken Little, but after that we either get the most obvious songs possible for any given seen (“It’s the End of the World as We Know It” plays over the alien invasion at the end, because of course it does) to “what the actual fuck is this doing here in the movie” (“Wannabe” by the Spice Girls is sung by Runt and Abby during a karaoke session, proving that canceling the Spice World review was not enough to save me from this band).
youtube
IS IT REALLY THAT BAD?
Alright guys, here comes my hottest take ever: Chicken Little… isn’t that bad.
Tumblr media
Now, don’t get me wrong! This movie is still not really good at all. It’s disjointed, mean-spirited, confused, and stuffed to the brim with the tropes and trappings of every bad animated movie of the 2000s. But all of that is also what helps make this so genuinely fascinating! When Dreamworks did stuff like this, it was whatever, that studio is a rising contender in the animation game… but this is Disney! This is THE animation studio, the biggest around, and they’re making every single mistake possible because they want to try and beat Dreamworks at their own game, and they are failing at it! It’s honestly so funny that they tried to make their own version of Shrek without any sort of understanding of what made Shrek work.
But even beyond that, even though this movie is bad, it’s not really worse than Shark Tale is, and that is a premier so bad it’s good film. Really, this movie is the opposite of that film in many ways. Where that film had a world that was too overly nice and propped up the shittiest main character animated at the time, this movie has an insanely cruel world where the sweet, charming, heavily traumatized child is incessantly beaten down and belittled to the point you half expect him to try and dive headfirst into a deep fryer; where that film had a single generic plot that was at least remarkably consistent, this film has two separate plots that don’t go together at all and just end up making both halves of the film feel stupid and pointless; and where in that film Oscar is desperately seeking love from his peers due to his sheer selfishness, Chicken Little just wants the love and respect of his father. Pile on that the mountain of similarities, from the overuse of lame pop culture references for the sake of pop culture references gags to the bland love interests, and you have the Awesomely Bad Animation Double Feature of your dreams.
So yeah, I think the rating it has is about what it deserves. This is easily one of Disney’s weakest entries for sure, but it’s not without its moments and it has some amusing jokes, charming characters, and Adam West as a buff space chicken. If you go in with lowered expectations, you might be amused, but honestly I get why this film is so absolutely despised. It really isn’t great at all, and is firmly in the “so bad it’s good” category. You can’t really expect much more from a movie that presents a character whose biggest crime was just being an asshole getting their personality overwritten with a girly-girl one that the comic relief fat guy insists is perfect as a hilarious joke and then leads into a dance party ending where the whole cast sings Elton John.
...Or you could expect more if it weren’t for that son of a bitch Buck Cluck. Fuck that guy.
~~~Description~~~
A Royal with a Mission!
Malachi Fotea is a prince who is Photios’ fiancé making him future Scaramuse royalty. Unfortunately, his engagement was cut short when The Book of Unity was stolen. If the book is not returned on time, Photios will be punished in Sullivan's place, stripped of his princely title, and forced to flee the kingdom. Although Malachi is unhappy about being forced to marry, Photios treated him more like a friend than a future lover, which made Malachi feel more at ease around him.
Malachi follows Sullivan to ensure that the special book is returned so that Photios cannot be banished from Scaramuse as well as returning his prince title. Sullivan is initially dissatisfied with having Malachi, a royal, aboard his ship, and the two frequently argue. The intriguing aspect of this is that Sullivan has a crush on Malachi, but he doesn't want his old friend's impending marriage to be ruined because of his feelings. So he purposely pushes him away, emphasizing that they are not allies. However, after witnessing Malachi's personality shine throughout the voyage, he gradually begins to break down his walls.
Despite his circumstances, Malachi couldn't help but be impressed by the pirate ship. For the longest time, the young man had wished to go out to sea and enjoy the scenery, but he was unable to do so due to his prince duties. It’s always been his dream to sail the seven seas with someone by his side.
But, being on the same ship as Sullivan might make Malachi reconsider coming aboard…just a tiny bit.
TRIVIA:
Malachi can talk to Sirens and is null to their trance like voices. This made him slowly become friends with the lovely creatures and he even decided to give them cute nicknames to remember them.
The poor prince always gets bombarded at RSA with students excited for his marriage. Although he puts on a smile and thanks them kindly, on the inside he just wishes for them to go away
Photios always talks to Malachi like an equal and even tease and jokes around with him like an old childhood friend. Which sometimes confuses the RSA students a lot who think of them as a cute couple.
Malachi often teases Sullivan calling him “errand boy” instead of captain whenever they voyage together. Sullivan outwardly protest the degrading name but on the inside he’s loving every bit of it.

i dont think i had thought about the fact that sinbad never got the chance to properly mourn his dad since neither him nor Ezra got his body and since moving to Sindria his mom is buried an ocean away…
so
new headcanon that honestly i dont think there’s a way is not true: sinbad had either statues or altars made in honor of both his parents so he has a physical place that makes him feel closer to them

I present to you... something that took me way too fucking long to do xD
These are my personal casting choices for (non)Disney characters as Helluva Boss characters. Am I 100% happy with every single choice? Absolutely not. But am I happy with how my designs for them turned out? YES!
My casting choices are based off either personality, canon design or whether their scenes would work well for my "(non)Disney characters with Helluva Boss dialogue" video!
Will I be using these designs for that video? FUCK NO, DO YOU WANT ME TO DEVELOP ARTHRITIS??? But I did want to see my current casting choices look more like the HB characters, so this is what I came up with. There are definitely designs that work better than others (duh) but overall, I like how the majority of these turned out.
I'd love to hear what (non)Disney characters you'd cast the Helluva Boss characters as! Or perhaps you have a cartoon cast?
I'll write here which reason (personality, design or fitting footage) was the main reason I chose this cast. If you want to hear me talk more in depth about any of these casting choices, do let me know through an ask! I just don't want to make this post TOO long XD
Sinbad as Blitzø
Personality
Esmeralda as Loona
Design
Christopher as Moxxie
Personality
Jasmine as Millie
Personality
Holli as Verosika
Personality, design AND fitting footage (yeah, you can't convince me Holli isn't the best Verosika cast, I dare you xD)
Eric as Stolas
Personality and design
Odette as Stella

Hey I was always wondering what made Magi to be one of your favourite anime’s and how did Sinbad become your comfort character so much so that you made a fic about it?
Love Sindria’s Prophet
I went into a bit of this here where I talked about my favorite arcs in the franchise.
Here's the full version:
How Magi came into my life UwU: Me and Lyly started watching Magi independently around the same time. Our mom had just died and I was having a ton of issues with theft in the Miraculous fandom, so we were both looking for something new. A friend recommended Magi to me saying that Morgiana had a similar name to me and acted like me. (She's very autistic with PTSD coded.) I found out about halfway through season 1 that Lyly was also watching it because they messaged me "Sorry about the purple guy." They took one look at Sinbad and knew I'd fall for him. I'd even say they were more into Magi than me at the start though since they had already been hyper fixating on different translations of 1000 Arabian Nights for several months.
We watched it separately, and together. We spent a ton of time analyzing the characters, world, and story. It's rare to see an anime centered on the middle east, and the magic systems worked with physics instead of against it so there was a lot to explore. We agreed that Sinbad and Ja'far's dynamic was a lot like ours; it was like looking at the two of us if we had managed to break out of the abusive situation we were stuck in much sooner. Our free time became us talking about what we might be like in that world, and what our adventures would be like. Then Lyly found The Adventures manga and it just gave us more to talk about and explore. Sadly, the differences between the Adventures manga and anime were to great for Lyly and it broke their hyperfixation on the franchise. They still like it, but their engagement ended there; they haven't finished either manga, but they do let me talk about it at nauseum.
Why Sinbad became my main comfort character: I know I mentioned in an ask before that Yunan is technically closer to my type than Sinbad, but Sinbad is the pattern I keep repeating -especially when it comes to anime crushes. I really like the Prince & Gentle types, but they have to have Main Character Competence TM. Gorgeous, confident, kickass, and kind when it matters. For some reason that means I keep ending up attracted to characters that are revealed to be flirts. I swear I thought Sinbad was just a competent moron teacher type when I fell for him. Even though he was a bit egotistical he was also very compassionate for the people around him, and -at least in the Balbadd arc- seemed willing to help the next generation instead of forcing his ways onto them. (He was impressed Alibaba's solutions even though they were different than his, and respected Alibaba for making them.)
Even after finding out that Sin was a womanizer, I saw that he was attentive to those he is using, and when he is done with them it's obvious, so his targets get a clean break. My Ex was a coward that refused to end things himself even when he was done with me. So while I was going through the breakup, I hyperfixated on Sinbad harder because he treats his partners better than I was. Even if I fell for Sinbad's manipulation, I knew that he'd treat me right while he needed me, and when he would be done with me he'd send me off and stop talking to me. I wouldn't be dragged around by my nose for months when I was going through one of the hardest times of my life. Sinbad is never shown flirting with someone in a bad mental place, anyone like that he would help heal (which could just be more manipulation, but he'd still be helping them get back on their feet).
And then I read Adventures. Sinbad's childhood put him through severe parentification like me. And in the the Slave Arc Sinbad went through more similar abuse to what I grew up in. There was no going back for me. I related to Sinbad so much at the start because how he responds to stressors is the same as me, so seeing him also have a past similar to mine made me feel seen in a way I hadn't felt before. It also explained why Sinbad seemed so trauma informed from the beginning.
Here's an exert from my current draft of Ch38 that explains how I felt:
When I had originally read this arc, it carved Sinbad into my heart. It made me think, 'This person would understand me.'
(Mori is working on Fate scrolls in the scene. Honestly, I'm happy I finally have a place to put this scene. I originally wrote it nearly a year ago.)
The biggest difference between me and Sinbad was that I grew out of my illusions of grandeur through middle and high school. It went hand and hand with realizing that what I was going through was abuse. I only had one person to protect, not a whole country's worth. Who knows, maybe if I was under that much pressure I would have slipped back into it like how Sinbad did after Zepar's dungeon arc. I know I some times get close when things get bad. The confidence it brings can be both addicting and reassuring when you need to be able to make quick or life changing decisions.
But yeah... I hope that answered your question in enough detail :3
Thank you for liking Sindria's Prophet so much! I'm finally working on the art for Ch37. It will probably only have maybe 3 art pieces, but 2 of them will be comics so I think that's okay.

There's an interesting sort of vagueness/uncertainty to Haidee and Edmond's relationship. The narrative, at least so far, never quite lands on a single 'true' relationship between them, instead mixing between different types. Mistress, slave, daughter, tool, lover... she often seems to vacillate between multiple roles at once, never quite settling (so far).
I've got some thoughts on both how that develops and potential reasons why, but it's under the cut since it gets a bit long.
She's first introduced as a complete mystery, in fact more so than Dantes himself, who Franz already recognizes as 'Sinbad the Sailor' of Monte Cristo. Of course, that's only for Franz and the reader; the locals are mystified by them both, and in the countess' case, offput:
"Then observe, too, that the woman with him is altogether unlike all others of her sex. She is a foreigner—a stranger. Nobody knows who she is, or where she comes from. No doubt she belongs to the same horrible race he does, and is, like himself, a dealer in magical arts." (ch. 34)
Haidee remains mysterious. We readers know that Dantes isn't Greek or a dealer in magical arts, so by extension (/common sense) she isn't either, but her exact role is unclear. I believe it may be implied that she's his mistress, but we really don't know anything until later. Even once in France, when their relationship seems partially clarified, the reason for it takes a little while to come out. Dantes calls her his slave several times - the first time, implying she's both a mistress and a slave, and that he has no intention of freeing her.
“Then,” continued Chateau–Renaud, “since you have an establishment, a steward, and a hotel in the Champs Elysees, you only want a mistress.” Albert smiled. He thought of the fair Greek he had seen in the count’s box at the Argentina and Valle theatres. “I have something better than that,” said Monte Cristo; “I have a slave. You procure your mistresses from the opera, the Vaudeville, or the Varietes; I purchased mine at Constantinople; it cost me more, but I have nothing to fear.” “But you forget,” replied Debray, laughing, “that we are Franks by name and franks by nature, as King Charles said, and that the moment she puts her foot in France your slave becomes free.” “Who will tell her?” “The first person who sees her.” “She only speaks Romaic.” (ch. 40)
This makes their relationship seem extremely unequal and abusive, but seems to be both meant and taken as a joke. In fact, a few chapters later, Dantes outright tells her that they both know she's in France now and is free to leave him if she wants. In fact, she is the one who insists that she has no desire to go anywhere else. His reaction is to give her all the freedom she could want within the confines of his household. The same conversation links Dantes with Haidee's father, and introduces the possibility of a familial relationship between them. Almost immediately now that the pretext of 'slave' is dropped, though, another possibility is alluded to: that she at least might see him as a lover:
"Depend on my care to see that your youth is not blighted, or suffered to pass away in ungenial solitude; and of this be well assured, that if you love me as a father, I love you as a child.” “You are wrong, my lord. The love I have for you is very different from the love I had for my father. My father died, but I did not die. If you were to die, I should die too.” (ch. 49)
First we get an if/then about Dantes considering her his daughter, then Haidee herself claims there's a difference between how she sees him and how she saw her father. But neither of them are open about anything else, and going forward for a while they seem to fit more into adoptive father/daughter roles. The impression is that Dantes adopted (technically bought, but neither seem to view their relationship as master/slave) her as a favor to her father.
Of course, once the truth about her past comes out, it starts to look like Dantes has been using her this entire time to serve his eventual revenge against Fernand. While she may view him as a father or perhaps lover, it's possible he only sees her as a tool. Certainly, he didn't command her to go tell her story to the court, but it seems apparent that he fully expected it to happen. He could easily have been manipulating her for years, encouraging her own vengeful thoughts to ensure she doesn't hesitate when the opportunity arrives. Again though, at the same time as this uncertainty is raised, so too does Dantes mention that her father entrusted her to him. So maybe it was in fact just lucky happenstance, or at least he honestly thought of her as a daughter as well as a useful tool. She also publicly calls him her foster-father this chapter, both of them dropping entirely the 'slave' and 'mistress' vagueness.
Okay, so maybe he was using her, but he also loves her as a daughter. She doesn't seem to realize she was being used, and doesn't hold it against him, so presumably they will proceed forward as father/daughter, right? Well, no, because Albert challenges Dantes to a duel and then it becomes time to really start addressing the vague hints towards a romantic relationship. Something deeper than simply the vague sexual 'mistress' implications from earlier. First, Dantes realizes how she might feel, but he thinks he's going to die due to his promise to Mercedes, so assumes it too late:
The count leaned over her and raised her in his arms; and seeing that sweet pale face, those lovely eyes closed, that beautiful form motionless and to all appearance lifeless, the idea occurred to him for the first time, that perhaps she loved him otherwise than as a daughter loves a father. “Alas,” murmured he, with intense suffering, “I might, then, have been happy yet.” (ch. 90)
This realization gives a bit of a weird feeling to the rest of his concerns about her in this chapter, where he fulfills his role of foster-father by attempting to set her up in a marriage with a man he trusts, so that she will be protected after his death. Then, after the duel doesn't happen, their reunion starts to shift between one type of love to another, even in the same sentence:
Every transport of a daughter finding a father, all the delight of a mistress seeing an adored lover, were felt by Haidee during the first moments of this meeting, which she had so eagerly expected. Doubtless, although less evident, Monte Cristo’s joy was not less intense. Joy to hearts which have suffered long is like the dew on the ground after a long drought; both the heart and the ground absorb that beneficent moisture falling on them, and nothing is outwardly apparent. Monte Cristo was beginning to think, what he had not for a long time dared to believe, that there were two Mercedes in the world, and he might yet be happy. (ch. 92)
Again, the outright statement of intent is initially given to Haidee (though only internally at this point). But Dantes considering her another Mercedes is to directly position her in the role of the woman he loved and was poised to marry. The woman who he still feels strongly enough for to agree at her request to willingly give up on his revenge and walk to his death. That's a big difference from the implied shallow/sexual relationship they were first introduced to us with. It also seems to fulfill the if/then of earlier: if she loves him like a father, he will love her like a daughter. If she loves him like a husband, he will love her like a wife.
.
I feel like, given the build-up, Haidee and Dantes will end up lovers by the end of the story as their final 'true' relationship. And while I'm definitely not a fan of that (less so about the age gap as the move from adoptive father->lover always being gross to me), I think the uncertainty along the way and the gradual shift is meant to hold meaning outside of just general suspense.
I think it reflects a matching uncertainty in Dantes himself. He's initially fully focused on his revenge, as all his years of planning begin to come to fruition. He has many different faces and names for this purpose, and his intentions are full of a kind of hateful anticipation. Thus the cruder/harsher presentation of their relationship at first... all the more so when it is viewed by outsiders, but also in his presentation of their relationship. But then, as his revenge is truly at hand, Edmond breaks containment, so to speak, more and more. He's visibly affected by meeting Mercedes again, first of all, and it's only after that meeting (ch. 41) when we see him interacting warmly with Haidee (ch. 49). Not that they haven't been that way all along probably, but it's the first time we're shown it, the first time the readers are invited past the outward facade. Haidee is a secret, just like Edmond. He visits her when he wishes to soothe his emotions and she's associated with happiness:
Monte Cristo had set apart one hour to be passed in the apartments of Haidee, as though his oppressed spirit could not all at once admit the feeling of pure and unmixed joy, but required a gradual succession of calm and gentle emotions to prepare his mind to receive full and perfect happiness (ch. 49)
Dantes gave up all expectation of a happy life or a normal parenthood to focus on his revenge. But as we see Edmond emerging more from the persona of the Count, so too do we see that he and Haidee do have a semblance of that, in private.
Likewise, the next shift of their relationship only begins to come out more after Dantes has fully achieved revenge against Caderousse, and is nearly finished ruining Fernand. Haidee, too, has finished her own revenge before her romantic feelings for Dantes are spoken in any outright manner (albeit only in narration describing her thoughts). More to the point though, Dantes has opened himself up to the possibility of never achieving his revenge - only then does he recognize that romantic happiness could have been an option. He has to fully revert to being Edmond (the hopeful one before imprisonment) in order to see the feelings she has for him. But, just like she achieved her revenge before expressing those feelings more than very vaguely, so too is he not able to fully commit to her before he finishes his final revenge against Danglars and Villefort (always his greatest foes). Granted, that last sentence moves into speculation, but I feel like it's a reasonable one based on the trajectory so far. Certainly, the placement of "beginning to think he might yet be happy"/Fernand shows up seems to indicate such happiness won't be achieved until the revenge is complete. And Dantes is excited to greet him, a far cry from his anguish at feeling forced to sacrifice his revenge as well as his life for Mercedes' sake. Haidee is someone who understands wanting revenge, after all. Perhaps she does, like the countess said way back when she was first introduced, "belong to the same horrible race he does" - though in this case, that would mean vengeful people rather than just a racist statement.
Haidee represents Dantes' inner self, the one locked away for so long and only able to be brought out now on the eve of his victory. At the same time, she isn't his 'pure' self of the beginning like Mercedes, but someone who understands pain and suffering and revenge. Her romantic love is a possible happy ending for him. But for the longest time, Dantes doesn't expect to ever have any kind of happy ending. He can't see past his revenge. And his uncertainty about his fate is reflected in the uncertainty of his relationship with Haidee, even as it does slowly evolve to something softer/more hopeful.
...or at least, so it seems to me after looking at the progression thus far. This is my first time reading the book so I don't know how things will end up, and I personally would vastly prefer if they just remained in a loving father/daughter relationship. Those don't appear as often/with the same narrative importance as romantic relationships, so I would love to see it even outside of finding the father/lover transition skeevy. But it does seem like there's some narrative weight to the potential romance, and the shifting perspective of the relationship is a good way to emphasize distance or closeness to Dantes in the readers.
