Alright. So while we’re all thinking about Steven Universe again I wanna talk about something I’ve been thinking about for a while

I don’t like that the gems are human-shaped. Like, I get why they are from a design standpoint - and specifically as a children’s show. I don’t even dislike the designs! I just. Am insane about speculative biology and aliens. I would like them to be weirder. So I will make them weirder

(Now, take this whole thing with a grain of salt because it has been a very long time since I’ve actually watched Steven Universe and a lot of the lore is a bit fuzzy to me.)

Ok! Disclaimers aside, let’s get into it!

So, (if I’m remembering right) there are three key facts pertaining to the appearance of gems:

Gems’ physical bodies are projections of/from their gems.

These projections are heavily influenced by their mental state and identity, and are capable of not only being subconsciously influenced, but also consciously influenced.

Gems are capable of extremely accurate mimicry.

This means their appearance could basically be anything.

Homeworld gems tend to have elaborate, inorganic crystalline forms. Especially in high-ranking gems, there’s a lot of posturing involved. Their forms are just barely even function, capable of completing the tasks they were assigned and all else dedicated to looking pretty and complicated and wholly inorganic.

Gems created in kindergartens would be the exact opposite, especially when they first crawled out of the ground. Their forms would be built to dig and… not really anything else at first. As they get older they become more specialized, their bodies evolving to suit their assignments - and eventually adding whatever personal flair they can get away with (which really isn’t much). This is why gems of the same type tend to look nearly identical.

It’s also possible for - and actually likely that they would mimic things that they really like, or otherwise had a great influence on them. Friends may begin to look like twins over time. Curious kindergartners may look like some strange life form that caught their eye, before they learned it was a very bad idea to express any sort of affection for such beasts. Lapises and aquamarines often look like living water.

It makes sense, then, that the Crystal Gems looked like humans. But what if they didn’t? What if they looked like tigers or herons? Flowers or frogs? Isopods, trees, squid, extinct megafauna, or any of the incredible, bizarre organisms that shared Earth with them!

This is also why I think corrupted gems look the way they do; animalistic and strange, that is. They don’t know what they’re supposed to look like. They hardly know who they are. How are they supposed to make themselves a form with no knowledge of themself? Well, mimicry. They mimicked the creatures they saw on Earth, but not super well because honestly perfect mimicry isn’t really what they were going for anyway.

Now, imagine if you could pick anything, anything at all, what you would look like. Imagine a gem who looks like their mental picture of a strange creature from an old myth. Imagine a gem that looks like an ever-flowing sheet of rain. Imagine a gem that looks like a miniature nebula. Imagine a gem that looks like a waveform of their favorite song. Imagine a gem that looks like a sunset in a storm cloud. Imagine a gem that’s an amalgam of all they’ve ever loved - people, creatures, places, things.

So, yeah. More fucked up gems please

Echos From Before

This is just a little self indulgent thing I had in my folders that I forgot about. And the person in it was Connie, not Hunter, but I found it might be more interesting and make a little more sense with the grimwalker, considering what his life source is

Basically, I believe Pink Diamond still exists within Steven’s Gem, she’s just buried so far down you’d have to go past even the deepest, darkest parts of his subconscious. She chooses to stay a completely separate entity from her son, because her gem ceased being hers the second she surrendered it, at least in her mind. Kind of like how Pearl’s gem works, she’s her own consciousness separate from Stevens in there, to the point the gem would have to be extracted and THEN reset to bring her to the surface.

Needless to say, doing that would not end well for anyone, because the second she remembers WHERE she was before the hit she’d probably lose her goddamn mind and make it her mission in life to shatter whatever Jackass killed her son

Then probably blow up the earth herself if it was a human, because she gave up a LOT of things to save their pathetic race, and they did THAT to her in return

What I’m saying is that she’s a chaotic neutral who did a lot of good things but was still a very damaging dumbass in the WORST of ways (her first Pearl, Spinel, Bismuth, etc) not good or evil, and pretty terrible at being reasonable or smart, but had enough redeeming qualities towards the end to make her someone worthy of love and being loved.

She would also totally go full villain if she was brought back at the expense of her son.

Anyway, the point is this isn’t cannon unless Aeon says so, but I made it anyway because it’s pretty and the concept of Hunter meeting Pink Diamond himself, without any concept of who she is (other than Stevens mom, MAYBE) would be very interesting.

Decided to draw this for the genderbent human au to better replicate the steven universe style, as in female humanoid gems- (mostly because I thought the human girl outfit for these two would be glamorous, and I was right.)

Anyways this is how they met. When the person who brought Sun in was still in the room Moon was acting rather emotionless and Sun had no idea how to feel about her since it would be really awkward if they had to talk to each other every day with her just emotionless. And it didn’t help when the moment they were left alone Moon was clearly huffy about this arrangement. It’s okay though, she was just acting formal for the sake of it- she’s still just as much of a brat as normally XD

Anyways, Sun is a yellow tourmaline. I based the outfit somewhat off of a fancier version of the zircons outfits, as I imagine her role isn’t that far off. As in a worker, but not physical labor related. She’s just disturbingly good at juggling 1 million things so she’s pretty damn important- which is the reason she can even associate with a sapphire. (Idk if this is true in Steven Universe, since idk if there are any yellow tourmaline gems and don’t really care to look it up lmao. Point is, on the hierarchy they are close enough that interacting isn’t a COMPLETE Ruby and Sapphire situation)

They said she was going to be Moons helper, but were really vague which obviously isn’t good with someone who buzzes with intense anxiety, but she quickly realized that Moon doesn’t actually need help with organization or anything. She’s fine at that herself. She’s just insanely bored and needs someone to spend time with outside of work so she doesn’t get in danger, and Sun is an extrovert with a lot of energy so it works out.

Alright on to the third, Axel.

He also has the unfortunate circumstance of terrible, neglectful guardians that Atlas had, a little less on the physical side though. The gems manipulate him solely to use his Diamond heritage as leverage and his pure facade as a means to end the empire but behind closed doors wanting nothing to do with him.

Axel does have a sweet heart, that which rivals the heart of the original but he’s got a bit of pent up everything. Understandable, I’d think, to be a walking, ticking time bomb when your family uses you for their own gain and your friends don’t know you for who you are and you are not appreciated, loved, or recognized for your sacrifice by anyone. Well, except for Connie.

Good god these two, the only thing keeping the other from flipping their shit into oblivion… except for the fact that Axel had already picked up a fucked philosophy and a bloody side hobby on his lonesome.

Thing is, repression and anger are a dangerous mix, if you put something near that concoction it always causes a violent reaction. So when someone(Connie) loves him and sees him, he latches on, viscous and protective. So yeah, you’ve got a real mixing pot of shit here, and Connie is just along for the ride because she doesn’t know he’s a literal freelance axe murderer.

Axel has this view of the world, a dillusion even; that he doesn’t owe anyone anything, that he’s spent himself year after year for nothing and that because his unrewarded efforts saved the world, he’s got the right to fuck the world right back up again. No care or consideration for anyone else, except Connie, again. And you’d think “there’s no way Connie wouldn’t catch on, what with disappearance cases everywhere in Delmarva.” Well you’re right, she does go after the killer, she just doesn’t know it’s her super powered boyfriend.

And surprise, surprise Connie catches him… pretty much in the act… and oh boy is that a fun encounter. Connie couldn’t understand, she had to see him crack someone’s skull open to understand and it takes Connie’s reaction for Axel to realize that by not involving her he just made it more difficult for them both. And so Axel makes a change. Instead of doing this bloody freedom campaign for himself… he does it for them both. He vows that he’ll do anything for her, to protect her, to cherish her and to keep her away from danger (from things that could take her away from him) by any means necessary, by that he means butchering the person in an alley or in their sleep…

And Connie doesn’t know what to do, the answer should’ve been so simple; report him, serve justice, prevent more death. But alas, it’s not so simple, not when he’s the only one who supports her, who helps her, who whispers sweet nothings to her with the same ease as breathing. What would she have if she gave him up? Who would she be? She feared she might be nothing. So all that ends up occurring is a stalemate at best… Connie doesn’t reveal him, but she doesn’t stop loving him either.

And Axel, he’s just going even stronger; under the illusion that his conquest for freedom and untethered love is even more righteous, his determination is just a fanned flame. So, one night as the news plays in the background, recounting the ever mounting piles of missing people reports and gruesome details of bodies found cut into pieces or trashed in ditches, Axel etches a word into the head of his axe, sideways, in-line with the blade of the axe. “I’ll always love you.” He whispers “always and Evermore.” A mental mantra, a carved oath, one he intends to keep, with his last breath, with every last drop of burning blood…

From there it’s rather monotonous, well, for Axel it’s monotonous: dinner date with Connie on Friday, murder the douche who called her a name under his breath on Saturday. Smoke a pack of cigarettes under the stars on Sunday, then some sort of parallelism of that throughout the following days…aside from the occasional conversation he has with Connie about his life choices that is beginning to feel more and more common. But it’s fine, she just doesn’t quite understand yet, he thinks. Yeah she’ll see when it’s done and then we’ll have the world, just us two, he agrees, and runs a small whetstone down the blade of the axe yet again. ‘It’s a nice thought’ Connie had once said when he told her of his plan. He would smile at the memory, though she didn’t seem to small quite as bright… he shakes his head, it’s a very nice thought.

Making this its own post instead of an ask.

I divide crossovers into categories or types, and here the most basic ones.

Intrusive:

A character from one setting ends up in another, completely unrelated setting. They do not share a universe, do not share a planet, nada. This is "falls through a portal" type of crossover. EXAMPLE: A Witch's Favor, where Wanda Maximoff and Maria Rambeau (Marvel) end up in the Star Wars universe due to an unexplained spell malfunction.

Shared Verse:

The settings could theoretically, in some manner, exist in the same universe without ever intersecting. EXAMPLE: I usually use Naruto for this example, e.g. the Hidden Continent exists in the Pacific but has had minimal influence/interaction with the rest of the setting up to this point because it's magically cut off from the rest of the planet. For Star Wars, this is usually pretty easy by just putting whatever the second canon is as just. A planet in Wild Space. They exist in the same universe! They just haven't found each other yet! A great example is the fic A Star to Steer By, by @norcumii and @dogmatix. A subset of this is fics where one is the distant past of the other, like Muse on This or Red-Eyed Black Widow.

Mixed Verse:

The setting is one that involves both canons influencing each other to a degree, or being in the same verse without being a fusion AU or shared-verse. The settings exist together, both having strong worldbuilding elements of the original, but are not fully themselves and show obvious elements of the other. EXAMPLE: Unfortunately my most recent example is an HP crossover so. Please keep in mind that this is from four years ago, before R*wling outed herself as a massive bigot: Professor Storm.

Fusion:

More or less 1:1 "this character from fandom A would be this character from fandom B" or otherwise "characters from fandom A reimagined in fandom B with none of the original setting." For a long time, HP was the biggest and most constant example, but uhhh that's clearly been falling out of favor like raw eggs. I've seen a lot of good ones for Hunger Games, though, and even wrote my own, but I know some other common ones are Steven Universe (which gem are they?), AtLA (which bender type are they?), or Pokemon (what trainer type are they). Also, arguably, generic AUs that don't take place in canon-verse, like modern or historical or zombie or Generic Cyberdystopia. EXAMPLE: After Me Comes the Flood.

Element Overlay:

A world-building element from Fandom B is applied to the setting and characters of Fandom A. Common examples are Daemon AUs or Sentinel/Guide AUs. I think a fun thing to point out is that, while they don't technically have a source fandom of origin since they were developed communally by fandom, soulmate AUs and omegaverse count as well.

There are other types, like infusing the plot of one narrative into the setting and characters of the other, which is a really fun kind of fusion (I always come back to thinking about Age of Marvels by justplainrii, which only ever got three chapters but still eats at my brain sometimes), buuuuut I'd say most crossovers are some variant of the above.

Also, have you thought about including the Hazbin Hotel cast finding out about Sir Pentious being alive in heaven and more or less being held against his will by all these yandere angels?

Like I imagine a scene where he somehow manages to contact his friends and he's just so terrified that he could barely speak, and when Charlie/or some other character finally manages to calm him down and ask what's wrong, Emily or Sera gently pulls him away, making up some excuse or another. Telling the sinners they have nothing to worry about. Sir Pentious is fine in heaven...

Romantic yandere?

Yes, the archangels and God will be in this story, and yes, they are also ensuring that Sir Pentious stays in Heaven and doesn't leave. I'm not done writing their characters yet, and I still haven't memorized every archangel's name, as they weren't really in the original series and are technically my OCs. We might see them in later seasons, but for now, I'll create my own version of them. However, I will tell you this: God is like White Diamond in this cartoon called Steven Universe (that will give you an idea of what type of personality God has).

About the Hazbin Hotel cast? Oh yeah, they wouldn't know about Sir Pentious being redeemed and coming back as an angel until two years later (Yes, it was a very long time). Sera probably lied about how long Sir Pentious had been in heaven and said that he appeared "a few days ago". I will write their reactions to Sir Pentious being redeemed, Sera's suspicious behavior, and learning the truth later as I am still studying their personalities and how they will react to things. But I will say this: Vaggie might be the most suspicious about this as she used to be an angel herself and knows that Sera won't just accept this change immediately if Sir Pentious has only been there for "a few days". Vaggie might not have a very close relationship with Sir Pentious, but even she noticed his discomfort and the fact that he barely speaks when he contacts them. Once Sera "gently" pulls him away from their point of view and keeps him under her wings, Sir Pentious stays quiet for the entire time, which is enough red flags for her. Does this mean Charlie and Vaggie will go to heaven to save him? Maybe. I'm not done writing this yet.

My gosh! The scene you describe hurt my Sir Pentious fan's heart 😭. The feeling of you thinking that you are safe, just to have that hope ripped out of you. I might add this scene to the AU! Thank you for the ideas! Also I absolutely do not see Emily being Possessive or a Mastermind Yandere. I do see her helping Sir Pentious to escape and got trouble for it.

I'm not sure if you know much about Steven Universe but...Diamond au?

Alma is basically white diamond (The supreme Diamond basically), or should I say, Magenta diamond?

Pepa is obviously yellow diamond, Julieta is blue diamond, and Bruno is green diamond.

The grandkids are kind of...young diamonds? (I know in the show it's canon that Diamonds and crystal gems don't age but I'm switching things around for fun.)

So, young Diamonds are typically minded from underground places and it's extremely rare to find one and even rarer to find six.

(So, in the ground they're technically like babies in stone. There's no certain way of knowing when a Diamond will be born so you kinda just have to...wait.)

Isabela was born first, then Dolores. 2000 years later, Luisa was born. 4000 years later, came Camilo and then Mirabel. 10,000 years later, came Antonio.

Like in your Giant siren au, the diamond madrigal adults & teens are huge with Antonio being the smallest. But he's just as tall as the average adult.

Roles -

Magenta (Alma) is the leader and in charge of establishing Gemkind's identity. Yellow, Green, and Blue, holding second-tier status, oversee Home world's military and culture respectively. The grandkids are charge of throwing celebrations for the achievements of the other Diamonds.

In this au the adults aren't addressed as mama/Tia/Tio/Abuela they are just addressed as their colors. Same for the grandchildren-

Isabela = Violet

Dolores = Red

Luisa = Purple

Camilo = Gold

Mirabel = Teal

Antonio = Bronze, cider, Mikado, or apricot (I'm not sure which one to choose from.)

The husbands in this Au are pearls. And yes, they still love their big wives.

Pedro = Sandstone (color) pearl

Agustin = Oxford blue pearl

Felix = Honey Pearl

Are the grand-diamonds spoiled? Yes, they were cute as diamond-lings so how could the older diamonds not spoil them? Are the grand-diamonds still sweet? Also, yes.

That's all I've got for now.

I think the way the “children" are determined by like?? Which couple digs up the lil Diamond. Dunno 🤓

*it's been a decade since the company C&A has declared bankruptcy and shut down, suspiciously just in time as several missing report cases became public. Searches went cold and they were declared dead, obviously many suspects the company and it's higher ups of any involvement but with no proof, the case was closed and forgotten and the company's assets were sold away to those interested in them*

*After unfortunately getting a promotion from the company you work for, you were given an odd USB that was collecting dust in the storage bin instead of the usual celebration because you qoute from them "Things are getting more expensive here" Yeah right and so they decided to give you this old piece of junk but when they explained that the USB belongs to the C&A company before their bankruptcy you were curious on its contents*

*What could be inside this USB? Some kind of company secret? a file containing sensitive info? Some video of worker's training? At this point you aren't sure as all you know is that the company used to air some weird 3d shows that no one seems to remember. Maybe you should plug it in to see or maybe you can just sell the damn thing again but who the hell would want an old USB? Collectors maybe?*

*It would take you another week and a half to finally get curious enough to actually plug in the darn thing to your PC, when you did it prompt a request to download and wanting to know what contains in the damn thing, You click accept as it started downloading. it took a while and after it finishes downloading, An app icon appear on your desktop, it says "The amazing DIGITAL CIRCUS", hovering your mouse over it, you double click and... it opened to a blank screen, confuse, you click anything in the screen, nothing, you pressed Esc and it merely brought you back to your Monitor, is that it? what a rip off*

*Well you sure hope it isn't any kind of virus, you lean over to your pc to pull out the USB , Ready to throw it back at your boss for some actual money for your promotion when you suddenly hear a warped noise, almost sounding like a liquid being plunged through by something or someone, you turn back to your monitor and felt your heart jump to your throat as you see a gloved red hand sticking through your monitor, reaching out to you*

"WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!"

In this au, after being trapped in the digital world for at least 20 years, the performers were finally given the means of exit but not in the way that they thought, being in the digital world for so long their bodies were basically turned into digital overtime and their human bodies and memories are lost. So now basically think of them as like the gems from steven universe in the real world now.

They live with the reader after making a bit of deal with them and after calming them down (Cuz u would get scared too if you see this giant grinning rabbit man in yo living room)

They can use any devices with screens as like portals to the real world and to the digital world but also to get from one place to another, their size changes depending on which device they come out from, they can be small like around 4-6 inches when coming out of an apple watch for example, normalish (but still bigger than human) when coming out of a 55 inch tv screen and just flat out giant when coming out of a digital billboard, thankfully they can only go into a device in which the reader has access on so no giant Jax terrorizing some poor city.

They also cannot go too far from the reader, if they are very far like around 10 feet apart, they are instantly teleported next to the reader (kinda like a minecraft dog lmao)

Since they are technically in digital bodies, they do not need to eat nor drink BUT they do get tired now as they aren't constantly being fed electricity like in their digital world, they can recharge by either A. Napping (Not reccomended as it would take a day to fully recharge), B. Going into any devices and just staying there until their battery is full (Alright) or C. They can literally just place a plugged in charger in their mouth and they will recharge (They charge fast this way but with the reader's limited chargers they just tend to do the second option)

Reader was traumatized from their first encounter and literally barricaded themselves in their bathroom with all their devices turned off after learning they can use them as portals, Stayed there for about a day and a half before Ragatha managed to talk through them.

They tend to be small when they are out, mostly because the reader always brings their phone everywhere and thats how they usually be with the reader.

You all know those shimeji companion that you can download into your phone and you can pick them up and stuff? Well the reader can do that while they are in her phone but they also can mess with the reader's apps and stuff.

Caine is there but since he is an ai through and through, he just enjoys his retirement in the reader's pc and cannot get out into the real world.

Pomni thinks that she owes the reader big time for saving her from the digital hell.
