Thank you for this ask! What an interesting question :D

22. What's something you'd love to draw but haven't yet?

Hmm... I feel like of all things I haven't drawn, I'd definitely like to start on the ones I plan to draw! Like for one thing, all my unfinished and unstarted comics (both original and fancomics) but also, more generally, I'd like to draw more quiet scenes because I feel like those subtle and calm scenes can be really hard to do compared to action! I'm so used to practicing action that it would be interesting to practice more of the opposite as well haha :D

Also maybe talking scenes. Those are hard to picture for me in comics, but feel easier to imagine as animation (because of the one camera), so maybe I should practice more of those too.

These are old comics, but I'm reminded of these ancient fancomics from 2016. The sparring comic was fun to do (even if it looks old and unclear now) but in comparison, this talking-heads page from the same year feels more boring to look at, even if the planning was sorta the same (I was more focused on trying to figure out a good and easier way to letter and speechbubble the comic and left the layout really simple)

Maybe one thing I'd like to draw more, is just these looser and more energetic pages, like this newer comic from around 2020

more stuff like this, even if it's much sketchier, it feels more clear because the intention is stronger here than the older comics, where I often fumbled around with the lines a lot and redrew things as I kept looking for the "right line" instead of just going with the flow.

uhhh, but these are all sorta things I've already tried drawing so.... of things I haven't drawn yet... yeah, maybe comics with non-human characters, like robots or aliens. or maybe something easier to draw, where the moments between the panels, the flow of the story become a bigger part than the drawings alone. that would be interesting to draw if I get there one day :P Maybe I should pick something more realistic haha! of general work, I'd definitely like to one day animate more animals. I actually have a dragon animation in the works right now that I'm still doodling along and thinking about.

of general fanart topics... I wanna draw Yamato from One Piece right now this past month!! I've been wanting draw him for a long time but just haven't found the moment to sit down yet, so I'm looking forward to it haha xD What a cool guy! I think he'll be fun to draw. I definitely put too many expectations on myself, even with fanart, so that's why I never finish or even start some drawings... I'm just imagining something bigger than I can draw at that moment!! but lol I'll definitely get over that hesitation now, I've been in the mood to draw much more as of late than before. I'll just think of the fun moments of drawing!!

What about you? you don't have to answer it, but I'm curious now xD

This (above readmore) is the SECOND version of this scrimble. The first version was AMAZING re: poses, but the MOMENT I experimented with colours? IMMEDIATE DISLIKE. I WAS SO UPSET. MY GOD.

The MOMENT I dug out some old markers to test for skin tones???? DOWNHILL.

Dite has like 5 on her rn. Jacquie has like 3. Attempts to fix it?? FAILED. and the blender did NOT do well on Dite's wings, AH. Jacquie's dress? COLOURS SHOULD'VE BEEN REVERSED! AH!

So I redrew it to what you see above! I like the colours on that one SO MUCH MORE. Shame Dite's right (our left) arm turned out wonk. But her left (our right) looks GREAT! The wings, I should've spread them out on either side?? If that makes sense? But the both of them are resting so her wings are usually chillin, folded up together, vibing. Unless she gets really excited. then it's like a second set of arms, lol.

Things this week's scrimble taught me: PROMARKERS and CRAYOLA FINE TIPS do NOT mix. PROMARKERS, PRISMACOLOURS, AND STEADLER WATERCOLOUR MARKERS? THEY MIX FINE. THEY WORK. AH.

Also, that I forgor how much I loved my prismacolours!

Anyway, once have a set of white/off-white markers, it's over for you hoes (Jacqueline's hair and Dite's wings)

Originally, Dite was going to be holding the book open in one hand and then gazing at Jacquie, who was gonna be sleeping, but then this happened instead, lol. Her thawed hair in the first one is like SENDING ME, IT LOOKS SO GOOD 🥰🥰🥰

Fun fact about Dite: Persuasion is her favourite novel maybe ever. And yes, I AM projecting. You do not understand how much Persuasion drew me in. The build up to that LETTER? BOY I DIE! SHIT BOY!

Fun fact about Dite #2: her motif/shape is HEARTS. Her wings? MAKE A HEART SHAPE. Her face? HEART SHAPED. Her bangs? MAKE A HEART WITH HER FACE. She LOVES LOVE and she's making it her whole entire thing!!!

Though this was 3rd in last week's poll, I couldn't see it be used NOT during Valentine's week ): But dw Frostmas Jacquie lovers! That's the plan for Scrimble #8 :D

Actually, the shuukazu commission was...

joint-bought by me and another user. When you find the comm on Damu's skeb, you'll be able to see the other user's name. I'm not sure if they'd like to be namedropped.

When Damu drew it, she actually misunderstood the art request as "creepycute ship art of Nanaiwa", not "cute and sweet ship art of Shuukazu", so she drew Kazuaki with Nanaki's evil face instead... I don't really want to stir up conflict, but she ended up noticing her error, promising to make a follow-up drawing, and then never drew one. I did contact her multiple times but she eventually stopped responding. Uhmm. But it's not the end of the world because she did provide us, the customers, with original .psd files of the commission, with all the layers separate and all. So I redrew Kazuaki's face myself and I'm happy with it. I assume that Damu gives the respective .psd files for all her customers, so that's great!!

I was a minor with no income when I commissioned it, so I'm a little bummed out, because I had saved up around (not precisely) 100 bucks for a commission from this incredible concept artist to draw my otp, and then it ended up like that... It's still a really good drawing though. I want to say that I'd like to commission Damu again one day to draw specifically that cute, out of character-level cute, ship art of shuukazu, but it's too awkward.

It's actually the second time I commission someone to draw shuukazu, and end up disappointed. The other time, the artist sent me a half-done preview doodle for approval, and when I said that I preferred the look of the previous-previous sketch, they made another edit elsewhere that I didn't ask for, and when I was disappointed, they simply never got back to me again. Shuukazu is cursed... (I don't think I'm the problem...!! I've commissioned lots of artists over the years and those were the only 2 times I was unhappy. I'm just doing a bit of complaining into the internet. shuukazu save me...)

I finally redrew my icon! Even since I posted it, I was never the biggest fan of the original. They’re shiny, I wasn’t a big fan of Grimm’s outfit, I wasn’t really proud of the hands, and I can’t draw backgrounds for shit lmao

Now, they’re not shiny, I love the hands, I got practice with Grimm’s mask, and I LOVE their hair now. While I still can’t draw backgrounds, I am an occasional landscape photographer, so I took a photo I took several years ago in Colorado and just kinds doodled over it to make it feel not so out of place lmao.

I know I’m mainly doing redraws right now, but that’s because I’m still learning how to draw, and I like doing things like this and the other artwork of mine I redrew a bit back to let myself know that I am improving and progressing <3 I do have new, original art planned for the future!

First off: ESVE can be pronounced like E S V E, with all the letters, or Ess-vee. Just something lol. And anything that originates from ESVE is 'Esvian'.

Originally, they were planned to be evil in way more of a sense. They still *kinda* are but, yknow. I never got around to introduce Commander, but she is supposed to be "female" aswell. There was supposed to be a kinda dominance hierarchy between "male" and "female" ESVE. The ESVE also live in a large mothership in the void, kinda like the Irkens in IZ??? That's just what I think afhdsjkfda,,,,

Anyway here's my ARG page from my sketchbook:

Slightly visible in the left corner, when in HC, the ESVE lived in an underground base under the HCBBS. It's kind of a parallel to the fact that Mumbo had a base underground on Grum's island. Ooh, storytelling /hj

(Sorry for the poor quality my computer wont download this photo well) Ignore the bad art, but this was supposed to be the HCBBS spaceship thing. I planned on introducing a blueprint of this or something, but it wasn't really necessary and I never fit it in. Yea :D

Here's the original doodle of the ESVE that 'Mumbo' was supposed to draw but I scrapped it and redrew the one that was actually used. I thought it just didn't look like something Mumbo would make.

The ESVE were based on my design for a humanized HCBBS from around the time the HCBBS was happening. I'm surprised it wasn't to obvious to some of my mutuals, haha. The designs are still different of course, but I'm sure you can see the similarities.

2020 Art Summary

Yep, it’s 2021 already. 2020 is finally over. It felt like it lasted forever, and it felt like the end would never come, but here we are. Crazy how the time flew by.

I felt like I didn’t get much art done this year because of Current World Event, but I made a lot more than I thought I did. Even some of my new favorite pieces came out of this year, so I think that’s worth celebrating and looking back upon!

I was insanely productive during the first month of 2020, and looking back I was surprised at all the stuff I did, but then I remembered that that winter season was actually one of the best times of my life! I started being more socially involved, and I think my newfound drive at the time translated into all the art I pumped out this month. This is just a small fraction of what I made in January, but I only have so much space. Quite a few complex pieces in both style exploration and polishing my own style.

Apparently February was a rather intimate month. Things began to slow down in terms of my own art here, with me spending more time in social settings and school work ramping up, I didn’t have as much time to coop up in my room to draw. I did wanna do something for a friend’s Valentine’s Day OC art challenge, so I drew my lovey-dovey couple from Dance of 1000 Words havin’ a dance. Nothing actually came of that challenge, but it was fun to do regardless.

One of the things I was most proud of in the winter season was making more friends, and one of the closest friends I made was completely coincidental. I met a person named Kiri on the bus one night I decided to volunteer somewhere by myself, and we ended up chatting and getting along. They quickly told me their tumblr username, and I shot them a message immediately after they left. A couple days later, we met up for brunch, and we started becoming really close friends and creative partners!

Not much else happened in March cuz that’s when Current World Event started becoming an issue, but Kiri and I still kept in close touch and we randomly started developing a concept for a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Galar Edition. These are a handful of characters we thought up, with Skipper the Scorbunny and Dross the Dreepy as the main characters, Morgrem as the main antagonist, and some shopkeepers such as those of the Greedent Bank and the Indeedee General Store. This was also my first time drawing all of these Galar Pokemon (except Scorbunny, but I also made Skipper a bit more unique than a regular Scorbunny).

Lots of events happened this month. First of all, Steven Universe Future ended, one of my favorite and most influential shows was no longer continuing. I had to do something as tribute, both as a send-off to one of the greatest cartoons in the world and as a cathartic release for my feelings towards it.

A while later, I got the opportunity to start playing an MMO in beta called Fer.al, by the same people who made Animal Jam, which coincidentally I had also beta tested for back in the day. I ended up getting really attached to my first character, a Senri I named Sasha, and though I’ve made more characters than them since, they’re still my absolute favorite. Though I haven’t touched the game in a few months, I was really engrossed for a long time and enjoyed playing through the beta and early access phases.

At the end of the month, some friends of mine invited to a roleplay group with some mutuals, and we all played characters in a crime syndicate. Just a bunch of ragtag thieves and criminals who ended up together in order to protect an artifact called the Crown of Thieves, which was essentially a flag to be taken by other groups to prove that they are the best thieves in the land. My character was based heavily on my sona (if it wasn’t obvious) and was also influenced by Cloud Strife, since the FFVII Remake had just come out and I was super into watching the cutscenes at the time. My character’s (code)name is Valkyrie, and they are a mercenary, going between multiple different employers to carry out whatever duties they need to do. They have a more complicated backstory, but presently they were recently hired by recommendation of their friend Shark (played by @shmoots-universe who is also My friend now ily maya) who works with a group called the Court Cards who are currently in possession of the Crown of Thieves. Valk never really had a place to call home, but staying with this group of people had to be the closest they could get to that feeling. They still sleep with a knife under their pillow because of trust issue but that’s okay.

Okay, so technically these examples started in April, but I continued making content with them in May, and the month was just pretty void of art in general, so here I am addressing them.

There were two main things I worked on this month: a Steven Universe AU of my own and the whole #sixfanarts thing that kicked off around then. Let’s start with the fanart bits. I did two and a half of them (six in April and nine in May), and it was so much fun to be able to draw stuff I don’t normally do! My personal favorites are shown here: Blake Belladonna from RWBY, Roll from Megaman, Yuki Konno from Sword Art Online, and Link from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The other thing I’d been planning for a while was a Steven Universe AU, probably to cope with the show being over but also because I was inspired by a lot of those SU AU artists I started following at the time. I won’t share the details here because it’s gonna have its own blog at some point, but the example I’ve shown here is of a comic I made loosely in order to introduce a divergence in the plot of the story as well as introduce a character unique to my AU. It was a lot of fun figuring out how to draw the characters and get a feel for the style.

As the year progressed, my amount of art I made per month began to dwindle, this time mostly because school was kicking my ass especially hard with finals. However, I took what time I had to get some backburner pieces finished, like the Tigerlily picture which I sketched out a couple months back, and the Gunvolt picture which I started working on SIX YEARS AGO. I don’t quite know why I got the urge to work on it again after so long, but it was nice to finally realize. The other drawing for DOTS was done in the dead of night but I was really happy with how it came out.

Despite only having two summer classes left of school, this month was really rough because they demanded a lot of my time and attention. I did not have the gumption to do anything digital, so I stuck to my sketchbook to get out what I felt like getting out.

My friends and I did a stream of the game Helltaker, and I really enjoyed the concept, so in following my friends I made my own Helltaker demon OC named Raksha the Ravenous Demon (it’s a pun but also got mythical insp). I also got super into Hazbin Hotel at this point, mostly because the Addict music video dropped and I couldn’t get enough of it, so I doodled Angel Dust cuz I felt like it. The other drawing I did was actually a free commission I gave a friend of mine as a prize for a trivia game show I ran back in June. He along with a couple other friends got some free drawings from me for getting the top three scores, and this one in particular was fun because of how interesting it was. He wanted me to draw a video game reviewer called the Irate Gamer from a specific moment, and I decided to go ham and just make it as dramatic as possible.

University classes finally wrapped up and right after that I was in the process of moving out of my apartment and getting adjusted to living with my parents again. I did a couple of agg.io drawing sessions with my friends from the Court Cards group as well as a new Dungeons and Dragons homebrew group I had joined. I drew some more of Valkyrie and came up with a design for my DND character Qakuqtuq (or Kai for short). He is monkey grandpa and I love him.

My main focus was on finishing a polished piece for my friend Cake, whose birthday was in the upcoming month. I wanted it to be as amazing as possible, so I put a lot of time into getting more detailed and making them look good. In addition to that, I did a few TOME doodles just for fun. The creature on the bottom was for this month’s art challenge on my Discord server where we made original TOMERPG monsters, and I created Hundylow, a Crystal-element monster based on the Grindylow from English folklore.

This month was a lot more productive than the past few had been. I tried to do a 31-day art challenge called Creatober but failed to get past the third prompt because I was still swamped with other work. I’m still happy with what little I did, including the piece with my characters Kyle and Guarudan from DSWD.

I don’t remember how, but I also suddenly rediscovered an old Flipnote Hatena series called Tales of LostClan, a Warriors fan series that I would say was the most obscure thing I’ve ever been super invested in. It was what got me into the actual Warriors books, and I liked it so much I redrew the animations into a comic... twice. Didn’t get nearly as far the second time but clearly my love for this little fanfiction had not waned after nearly a decade. I felt like drawing a book cover/movie poster for the series, just to get it out there and see how much I’ve improved over all that time.

Also I felt like making a vampiresona just before Halloween because I never dress up for Halloween in art (or real life anymore, for that matter), and I wanted to do something like that for once. It was short-lived but I really liked the design!

The focus of this month was definitely on Pokemon stuff. As per usual I contributed to the current Gotta Draw ‘Em All collab, and I was tasked to draw Regieleki. It was really fun to figure out how to make it stand out and look like it was made of electricity.

I also committed a lot of my spare time to my Fakemon Gym Leaders, as I had been working on bringing them to life in the past year or so now. As of this post, I’ve finished rendering their full body poses and gym badges, but I’m still working on completing all eight VS portraits, the first half of which are shown here.

I... didn’t draw anything this month, actually. What I’m showing here was worked on in the last few days but has actually been in progress for a couple of months, and I just finished it earlier today, in 2021. But I needed to show something off, and it’s also about time I mentioned it.

Back in October, I kept seeing people rave about this game called Genshin Impact, and I was interested but not so much as to start playing it... until my friends started playing and I was like “fuck it, let’s download it”. Since that day, I have been super immersed and in love with this game, to the point I came up with my own canon based on my gameplay experiences. This also included the creation of an original player character: Astra, the non-binary Traveller. And now, I’ve finally drawn them and brought them to life.

It has been one hell of a year. I had some of the highest highs and lowest lows in 2020, lots of changes, and I have now officially moved onto the next chapter of my life now that my time at university is finally over. I’m very excited for what 2021 has to offer, and I’m going to go forward with great ambition.

One criticism about PPG 2016 is that, while the Powerpuff Girls look the same as they did in the original, the background characters make their designs stick out like a sore thumb. This criticism was shown in an interview with Derek Charm, which you can read here.

Charm: Luckily, the Girls look pretty much the same, just thinner lines. The hardest thing to figure out was the background characters, before it was very Hanna-Barbera/UPA but now it’s a little more of a modern CN house style. I finally got it down by issue four, but that’s my last issue, so…

Lolwhatburger on Twitter has done a series of redraws of various PPG 2016 characters, making them fit in more with the art style of the original. Here’s Sapna Nehru, here’s Pack Rat, and, my personal favorite because the artist redrew the best possible frame that exists of him, here’s Jared Shapiro. It’s all very nice, and it’s a good look of what could have been or possibly even what could be.

Martosi231234 asked me a question: what if they decided to go the other way around and tried to cram the Powerpuff Girls into the style of the background characters instead? I decided to make a quick doodle, and martosi231234 even colorized it for me so it looks slightly nicer.

I’ll admit that I really rushed Blossom there. But hey, it’s supposed to be PPG 2016 fanart; Blossom always gets the short end of the stick in the reboot.

Martosi231234 had his own idea on what they would have looked like, which he has given me permission to post here:

If they did this, they couldn’t have that episode where the other students made fun of them for looking like “baby faces”. That episode was also bad, so it’s no big loss.

EDGY EGG BOI READY TO PUT SOME CRIMINALS TO JUSTICE (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)❤

And instead of working on all the stuff I need to work on today after the warm up doodle, I ended up sketching up this as this image refused to leave me as I was making lunch earlier xD but worth it bc damn look at him!

Like I just see this scenario of Edge finally cornering a criminal he and his guards have been chasing for awhile, him slowly with his heels clicking on the asphalt as he summons his bone attacks and walks towards the criminal, grin wide over the fact he finally caught the criminal who dared to cause havoc in the underground Edge has sworn to protect, while telling the criminal to turn themselves in peacefully so they can face justice they have avoided for too long. Because my Edge boy is all about justice, he is not someone who just kills people off for fun he would actually rather not, but if he is forced if he must dust someone for the greater good or if the person is too dangerous to let live, he will do it, but otherwise he prefer to give criminals every chance he can give them to turn themselves in so they can pay for the crimes they done.

Anyway really happy with this, originally the background was all white like it usually is, but then I decided to try out turning it black which rly makes it look even better, really happy with his pose, his boots looks a bit meh but shoes are hard to draw, no idea what’s going on with his hands but they will do, redrew them 3 times pfft, his face is good tho, and damn wish i had moved the bone attack above him to the right a little bit so it ended up more center instead, but too late now pft, so yeah overall really like this it looks rly noice af, and it was nice to just doodle as I need to get better at just chill draw digitally UwU

Inktober 2019 - Day 27-31: All My Cards YEEESSSS!!!! I don’t care if it’s in a doodle dump, I FINALLY FINISHED INKTOBER!  Honestly, I just played all my cards for this because I was determined to finish this challenge and I did. I’m so proud of myself! Sadly I wasn’t able to do some of the things that I wanted to do but hey- that just means I can do them in color. Though definitely the next thing I post will be for Christmas which will most likely be Marvel since I’m in a bit of a MCU mood.  Alright, without further ado, onto the different doodles-  1.) Day 27: Magic - This one features my original character, Luma doing some of her dark magic. I just love drawing her in her original sea form- though I know I need to draw her in her “land form” sooner or later. Perhaps next time I doodle her.  2.) Day 28: The Dwarf - Nothing really special, just a quick little doodle of Nori because I love her so much.   3.) Day 29: Lawrence - MY NERVOUS WINGED SON! Oh how I love to draw you! This doodle takes place in one of few times Lawrence isn’t in a nervous state of mind. Though sadly- I’m going to have start drawing more doodles of him being anxiety driven like he usually is. Forgive me my son! ;-;  4.) Day 30: Diva - So I drew my Hazbin Hotel OC, Avarice/Paris, again. Though this is also kind of a slight redesign doodle for her just to get her up to date with my current skills in drawing. This was originally going to be a fake screenshot of sorts but I never got further than a sketch.  5.) Day 31: Not So Spooky Ghost - So for a finale, I redrew an old sketch of me as a ghost. Once again it was supposed to be apart of a bigger Halloween piece but I just never finished it. Basically the whole piece was going to be Luigi’s Mansion inspired with me and my friends as ghost, and my best friend as the ghost hunter. Oh boy- I got my work cut out for me because now I have to hurry and finish the Christmas piece I’ve been wanting to do. Not going to lie, it might be a day or two late- but I guess better late than never am I right?  Hopefully Inktober will go more smoothly for me next year.
