You Cheeky Slink
Bucky comes to you in the night to tell you about his latest google dive and maybe something more. Bucky x reader fluff. 1508 words. This is highkey self indulgent so get ready to read the fantasy thats been living in my head lately. Thanks :))
“Doll?”
Bucky stands at my door with just his head stuck into my room.
“Bucky, what are you doing? Where’s your shirt? You’re going to catch a cold wandering around with no clothes on,” I mumble from my pillow and plushie covered bed.
He smirks. He always does that smirk when he’s about to give some smartass response. That stupid lopsided smirk with he petal pink lips surrounded by the beard he’s been growing out. It’s kinda gangly but in a good way.
“Well, I guess I’ll have to come in then, so I don’t catch a cold in this freezing hallway. You know, you don't actually catch colds from being co-”
You had to stop the groan from falling past your lips. “Buck, love you and all, but now isn't the time to drop some of your newly found knowledge on me. It's...what time is it? Bucky, it is past midnight. Please tell me why you’re in my room at 12:38 a.m. talking about colds.”
Peter and I have been teaching Bucky how to use the internet and his phone, and We introduced him to Google a few days ago. Ever since then, he’s been catching himself up on most of what has happened in the last 70s years. It’s really heartwarming to see his interest in aerial technology and space exploration. We’re all glad that Bucky is adjusting well, but he’s been bombarding us all with random knowledge he’s found on the internet.
“Well, in all fairness, you were the one that invited me in, angel. I’m just doing what you said.” The smirk again. It’s too dark now that he's standing in my dark room, but I know the smirk. It bleeds into his voice. It makes him sound more...confident. Or cocky. “But dollface, we’ve explored more of space than we have the ocean. We don’t know what all is living in the deep parts of our ocean, but we know that you’ll get spaghettified if you go into a black hole. Some people think black holes are portals and some think they’re dying stars.”
“Wait, what? Buck, where are you getting your info?”
“Google, of course. Can I sit?”
“Sure.” The heavy weight of a giant man and his absurdly heavy metal arm rests on the corner of my bed. He almost seems hesitant to sit. I can immediately feel his warmth through the blanket. Despite me keeping my area freezing, Bucky always stays warm. “But Bucky, you went to a site to read these things. You used google but from there, what did you do?”
I can hear the wheels turning in his head. “Uh...the interesting looking ones?”
“You can’t believe everything you read on the internet, Buck. Anyone can put whatever they want out there. When you’re doing this research you’ve got to use reliable sources.”
“Reliable sources? Can I lean against the wall and stretch my legs?”
“Sure. Friday will help you with that, but Peter and I, and even Dr. Banner could help explain that to you in more detail tomorrow at a reasonable hour.”
Bucky shuffles his way across my bed to rest against the wall. He’s cautious of my legs as he makes his journey. It’s almost like he goes into assassin mode. Even though I know he’s moving, he tries his best not to disturb me.
“Well, did you know the footstep on the moon will likely stay there for at least 100 million years? There’s no wind on the moon, so it can’t be blown away. And did you know space is completely silent? There’s no air, so the sound waves have nothing to travel through so no sound.”
Bucky carries on with his space talk. Not long after we became friends, he shared that as a child he was interested in planes. He wanted to be a pilot growing up. That quickly became an awkward conversation. Now, Bucky is learning to fly with Sam, but once he learned our travels expanded into space, his dreams were out of this world. Bucky would start his google dives asking about some random thing, but without a doubt, he would end up on space exploration. Peter and I want to see how he’d do in a Wikipedia race. Peter thinks he would be amazing at it, but I know he’d get carried away and go down his own rabbit hole.
“Doll, Neptune has storms big enough to swallow the entire Earth! Can I get under the blankets?”
I hummed my approval and rolled over. Bucky’s voice is deep and raspy, and something about it can lull me to sleep. Usually I can’t sleep with any noise but Bucky is different. He could probably do audiobooks. Steve’s school videos and Bucky’s audiobooks. That’s quite a pair.
Bucky carries on with his space dump until I ask him. “Bucky, Russia got a satellite in space first. Sputnik. Would you have had anything to do about it? Idk. That might be a rough question but…”
He thinks, and he thinks hard. I can imagine his brows would come together, and he would bite at the right side of his lower lip. His Neptune blue eyes would move like he’s reading words off an invisible piece of paper laid before him. He would usually run his fingers through his hair, but Sam mentioned hair loss and that made Buck a little self conscious. I told him not to worry, but I’ll catch him catching himself.
“I’m not sure, angel. I don’t remember anything being about space, but maybe i just didn’t know it was about the space race. That is bizarre though. I was around when we made it to the moon, but I wasn’t. Can I get under the blankets?”
“Yeah, yeah.” Buck starts to talk again as he pulls the blankets over himself. He worms his legs undermine. “Bucky, get your popsicle legs off me. Go put those things on Steve.”
He lets out a small laugh before he continues his ted talk of everything. Bucky has been taken with space, but he’s interested in cooking too. He loves to sit and watch The Great British Bake-Off or MasterChef or Top Chef. It was quite sweet and funny when he tried to recreate one of the meat pies from season two of TGBBO. He was so confident, and his bottom was so soggy.
“We should grow a fruit salad tree. We’ve got to do something to a fruit tree, but we’d be able to make it grow up to 6 fruits! You could have peaches, Steve gets apples, Sam gets...I don’t know, and I get plums. We’d have to think of something for Pete. But imagine it, a huge fruit salad tree orchard behind the compound!”
“If it’s an orchard, why don’t we just plant a whole bunch of different trees?”
“Bragging rights. Can I lean on these pillows? I’m just gonna lean here.”
“Sure Buckbeak.”
“Hmph. Us having a fruit salad tree would be like the animals in Harry Potter.”
“Yeah?”
Bucky carries on, but his closeness and warmth are enough to lull me to sleep.
I woke up not too much later. Bucky has slowly made his way to fully laying between me and my pillow mountain. He’s pulled me in close to him and nuzzles his face into my neck. He somehow got his arms fully around me with my noticing. Our legs are intertwined, and thankfully, Bucky’s feet have warmed up. I can hear his heart beat in this position. Despite the torture and darkness he’s witness, his heart still beats like a young bird’s wings. His body and mind is old, but his heart is young. A young man from the 40s thrust into the 21st century. It is a cruel fate, but I know Bucky is strong enough to carry this burden. A heart is a heavy burden to carry.
I wake with the sun; a curious beam has made its way directly into my eyes. I go to grab a pillow to cover my face, but I seem to be in the death grip of a certain super soldier. I’m able to shimmy my way around to look at him. He looks at peace. Bucky always carries his anxieties and burdens, but in this moment, he looks youthful. He isn’t a super soldier who lost himself for 70 years. He isn’t a man who is widely hated and has to redeem himself. He isn’t a man with blood on his hands. He’s just Bucky; a great guy that will hold you when you cry or share a big bellied laugh with you.
“See something you like, dollface?”
“You slithered your slinky way into my bed.”
“No, no, no. You invited me in, so I wouldn't catch a cold. I just made myself not cold.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah. You were obviously the best solution, cuddle bug. Your heart is so full of love and compassion that it’s gone hot.”
“You’re a big sap.”
“Only for my best girl.”

and they were roommates?!
Tumblr media
SapnapxFem!Reader
Summary: Imagine being in love with your roommate, couldn't be you.
Pronouns: She/her
Warning: Swearing
Word Count: 2.3k
A/n: I don’t watch or know anything, I just like these people and I had a concept. Also, he and Dream aren’t roommates in this for the sake of I can’t figure that out. Also also, my timeline is probably fucked but who cares
The dynamic in the apartment was...interesting to say the least
In the two years of living together, it had shifted a lot
In the beginning, you and Sapnap had been... less than cordial to each other
Both eighteen, fresh out of high school, off to college thinking that you knew everything.
There was lots of fighting, to say the least.
All of the “No it’s your turn to vacuum”, and “I swear to god Sapnap I will punt you halfway across the world if you eat my pineapple again”
The only reason you didn’t slit each other’s throats was that if the other person was dead, who would pay rent?
It was the summer before college started at the time, and you were working long hours minimum wage so coming]’/ home to an annoying prick caused a crap ton of conflict
After a few months of being little bitches to each other, y’all got piss drunk in the apartment and it all just sorta fell apart
Got that good drunk therapy, spilling your deepest secrets
(y’all were underage but shhh)
So by the time college started, the two of you had become actual friends and started enjoying each others company
A few months into the friendship, you encouraged him to post the video of “Minecraft, but it’s Raining Cats and Dogs” on a whim
Lmao little did you know what you had created (we’ll get to that later)
You mocked his train of thought constantly, laughing at the timing of it all.
“Ahhh yes, I am Sapnap, the genius who thought it’d be great to become a YouTuber while in my first year of college.”
He’d always just laugh and roll his eyes, playfully shoving you while stealing your chips.
The next few months were a haze of studying, work, and him.
It was truly a friendship of convenience since you guys were so busy, him starting his youtube career, and you working restaurants, then school on top of that, it was just easy to find friendship in your roommate.
Of course, he had his close friends which he spoke to over the internet, and you had your friends from back home, but as for college, it really was only him.
You guys had a fun time just hanging around the apartment, and it became so easy to be friends with him
And it WAS truly platonic (we’ll get back to that as well)
The best thing he brought to the friendship was his animals
You got on fabulously with Cash and the cats
They were all so cuddly and honestly loved you more than him lmao
You guys were just trying to get degrees and not be too stupid, was that too much to ask???
Well to a certain 2020, it was
The beginning of that year was great.
He was sorta realizing that he liked putting himself on social media, but on top of that, it seemed like a great start to a year.
February brought him to twitch, which you loved
You found it hilarious how he would just sorta play games and have people watch him live.
But you were incredibly supportive, as a friend, of course
He really liked it so, you tried to ignore the shouting at three am, and the loud anthems at night
Sure you’d give him hell in the morning, but why kill his fun?
March started great, as it was his birthday.
You got him a glittery lighter as a gag, but it was the perfect gift for a broke-ass college student
Then a certain pandemic came a-knockin’ on y’all’s door
It was a hard hit on both of you.
An executive decision was made that you two would stay put, but being away from your families was incredibly tough.
That spring was the birth of The SMP.
It brought him so much joy, which in turn made you happier.
The rest of the school year was a blur of zooms and test
Nick nearly killed you on multiple occasions when you made fun of the fact that he was learning computer science over the computer or made him help you figure out what the fuck zoom was since it was tangentially related to his major
“SAP HELP ME YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS ITS YOUR FUCKING MAJOR!!!”
“NO, IT’S- AHHHHHHHHH”
Yall got more than a handful of noise complaints shhhh
That summer was fill was spent trying to fill the time in weird ways
Note to self, he can’t cook (which you learned the hard way)
Yall spent so much time trying to cook and bake, then sweating off the calories working out with The Fitness Marshall lmao
As sucky as the situation was, that summer was so incredibly fun for the both of you, and truthfully the only arguments were about what music to blast
“Y/n I swear if I listen to Cosmicandy one more time I will drown you.”
“Well if I hear American Idiot one more time someone’s knee caps are getting harvested.”
(that argument was settled with Elton John.)
When school started up again that fall, something shifted
After a year of actual friendship, you guys were no longer just friends, and the tension was so thick it could be cut with a knife
You had watched every single one of his streams since day one, but within 2 seconds of his Love or Host, you felt the need to hurl for some peculiar reason
It was bizarre because there was no way you could ever like him, of course not.
Within the apartment, you guys suddenly got a lot more touchy, but only because it was getting cold with winter and all that jazz.
It wasn’t because yall were secretly in love, what is this, a romcom?
The number of times you guys woke up on the couch, definitely not cuddling was too many to count
You started sitting in his room while he streamed, definitely not watching him with heart eyes because of how excited he got
He always had a pot of coffee full and a 6-pack of monster in the fridge since he knew you ran on spite and caffeine, and definitely not so that he could spend more time with you in the early hours of the morning.
The laundry started getting all mixed around, resulting in just sharing any sweats, hoodies, or socks.
The same thing went for food.
No longer was anything labeled with a name, if it was in the fridge, it was fair game (unless there was a post-it because come on, yall weren’t monsters)
But no, y’all were just roommates, not dating, lets make that clear.
Feelings? We don’t know her.
This entire time, his friends have had to hear about you rip.
But they got front row seats to your relationship development
“OMG my roommate is the worst she ate all of the frozen strawberries”
“Y/n kidnapped Storm all day while she studied and I thought I lost the fucking cat asjvdk”
“I had to run down and talk to the landlord because we dropped a pot of pasta sauce all over the carpet and couldn’t get the damn stain out.”
“She is so nice in preparation for a family dinner zoom, she ran out to the local Filipino food place and pick stuff up.”
“Sorry I’m late I overslept and didn’t want to wake up Y/n.”
They weren’t stupid, and could clearly see how whipped he was.
Dream and Geroge teased him about it constantly.
“Woah, calm down Sap, you should probably tell her you love her before you propose.”
“Yeah Dream’s right, it’s kinda weird that you’re living together before ever dating.”
He always flushed and denied it with a shake of his head.
He wasn’t into you, are they crazy?
Quackity and Karl messed with him in more unorthodox ways
There are a solid number of clips where they are fake crying over how he’s cheating on them, and even more tweets to match
It only got worse when you met them accidentally.
He was chatting post-stream on a video channel with George, Dream, Karl, and Quackity, and just his luck, you came into his room.
Like of all the times you could walk in, it was the time he was with his five closest friends but I digress
“Yo I got some extra tips yesterday so I picked up some extra Red Bull if you want to do one of your weird all-nighter streams.”
“Y/n I’m on channel.”
“Oh shit sorry my b. Catch.”
All the guys heard was a thud and a groan from Sapnap as the six-pack hit him in the chest.
Dream was the one to recognize your name.
“WAIT IS THAT Y/N I WANT TO MEET THEM!”
You could hear Dream’s voice through his headphones
“Sap… who is that?”
“No one. I’ll be out in a sec to help with dinner.”
You could hear a British voice come through.
“Oh so we are no one now, huh.”
Another voice piped through.
“Common... ¿Qué intentas ocultar?”
You cut in.
“Your headset it shit my guy. I can hear everything. I’m down to talk to them.”
He let out a groan.
“Fine. But you’re gonna have to do the dishes tonight.”
“Deal. Now move.”
“What? No.”
“Fine bitch.”
You collapsed onto his lap, plucking the headphones off of him.
“Hello, Sapnap’s friends. I am Y/n. A pleasure to meet y’all. Can you hear me?”
You heard a series of laughs through the headset, and a voice came through.
“Yes, we can see you too. I’m Karl, it’s so nice to finally meet his girlfriend.”
A blush rose on both of your faces, and another voice came through.
“Yeah, we’ve heard lots about you. Plus we can’t see your face in that picture Sap sent us. I’m Quackity”
That remark stopped your embarrassment in its tracks.
“What the fuck? How do you guys know me? I’m not even his girlfriend? And what picture?”
Sapnap grabbed your arm to calm you down as another voice cut in, but his one you recognized as his friend Dream.
“Hey, it’s okay. He just talks about you a bit, and the picture I believe was of you holding like three cats with like a red bull can on your head.”
“Jesus fucking christ why do they have that photo??”
He looked guilty but chuckled.
“Because that photo is a damn masterpiece.”
Karl’s voice came back in with a giggled.
“Soooo, Y/n we’d love to hear about you. Specifically anything funny or embarrassing that you have learned by living with him.”
Sapnap let out a groan from behind you as you went off.
“WELL lemme tell y’all, he has no cooking knowledge, well I mean, now he does, but one time, about a year ago, I had I been keeping a pot of water boiling for about an hour, soft boiling eggs, cooing noodles, blanching bok choy, etc. but this fucking genius is like ‘oH tHe HaNdLe Is StIcKiNg OuT. LeMmE mOvE iT wItH mY bArE hAnD.’ Needless to say, he burnt the crap outta his hand and kept the bag of frozen blueberries on it for the entire night. It took me like a solid five seconds to actually help him because I was laughing.”
By the time you had finished that story, you had seen Nick roll his eyes like 5 five times while the rest of the guys were wheezing.
“Yeah, well remember the time you were trying to imitate Rapunzel after we had watched it over Zoom with my sister, and you swung the edge of the frying pan into our head and got a nasty bump on it? At least I moved quick enough to put some ice on it.”
“Ice? It was the damn leftover Slushy that I had been freezing.”
“True, but you got to drink it after, so it was a win-win situation.”
“Sap, I had a bump the size of a golfball coming off of my temple. There was no winning.”
“Fine, you’re just making me sound like such a shit roommate.”
“No that’s not true, you do all of the talking to the landlord, and you at least tried to muffle the noise when you stream.”
“I guess that’s true, but you do like 80% of the cleaning.”
“Yeah but only because you’re working. Plus in the past 6 months, you’ve made coffee every morning, AND made sure I was taking my meds.”
“Those things aren’t that hard and I do it to make sure you don’t die because I lo- care about you.”
“What?”
“What?”
You heard Dream’s wheeze laugh and remembered that you guys were still on call.
“Smooth.”
You both went red, and Sap moved his arm around you to leave the channel.
The next few moments were complete torture, the two of you just sitting in silence.
You were wondering if he meant what he was about to say and he was scared that you had heard it.
He was the one to break the silence. (mind you you’re still sitting on his lap lmao)
“I’m sorry about that.”
You weren’t sure how to respond. Should you ask him if he meant it? Because that wouldn’t be that bad. Or just pretend it never happened. Nah that’d be hella awkward. Or-
“I love you too.”
“You what?”
Wow, okay your brain is being a little bitch rn, but fuck it. Balls to the walls baby.
“I love you, and I have for a while now. I just want you to know.”
You finally looked him in the eye, and he was grinning like the Cheshire Cat.
“Thank god. I love you, and nearly fucking told you for the first time in front of my friends accidentally. Damn, I’m smooth.”
You laughed and he smiled wider.
“Can I kiss you?”
After a quick nod he swooped in and holy hell his lips felt great. His arm wound around your waist and your hands made their way to his jaw as he pulled you closer to him.
The only thing playing in your mind was “and they were roommates”

He Carries The Key by @lululawrence
[Niall/Louis, OT5, 8k, Not Rated, tumblr post]

Better Mistakes by lovelarry10 / @chloehl10
[Harry/Louis, 117k, Explicit, tumblr post]
“Look, this doesn’t have to be the end of the world-”
“Oh but it fucking is,” Louis said, shaking his head. “How the fuck am I going to tell Matt I’m pregnant with a baby when we’ve not had sex in months? He might be a bit thick sometimes, but he is gonna know there’s no chance this baby is his.”
“You don’t have to, uh, tell him it’s mine, right?”
Louis scoffed. “Why, are you scared he’s gonna come and kick the shit out of you?”
“He wishes,” Harry laughed, looking back down at the test. “Shit, I … I can’t believe this. Louis, I didn’t mean for this. Honestly. It was just sex for me. We have great sex, and I didn’t see why I should have to turn that down, not when you clearly wanted it as much as I did. I didn’t want this to end in a baby.”
Louis knows he shouldn’t be sleeping with his boyfriend’s enemy. He knows that. But there’s something that draws him back to Harry over and over again. Falling in love wasn’t part of the plan...
Thou, Sun, Art Half As Happy by @lululawrence
[Louis/Harry/Nick Grimshaw, 7k, Not Rated, tumblr post]
Hello, I’m sorry if this isn’t a post that is allowed on this channel, but I was hoping for the best since it is regarding a photography project I’m working on at the moment. I’m working on a set of sunrise kiss photos and therefore am needing a willing kissing partner. I’d hoped to be able to provide one for myself, but it hasn’t panned out, so here I am! I was hoping to find someone here, since I know most of you (at least peripherally) and can generally vouch for you not being creeps. Plus this way I know you will understand needing to continue to tweak the camera settings and reshoots etc that others might not.
Anyway, I’m looking for someone who identifies as male or male-ish (sorry, ladies) who is between the ages of 18 and 40. I’m a 29 year old male-ish myself, for those who would like to know before replying.
If you’re interested and are free the early morning of August 7th and would like to kiss in the sunrise with me for the sake of some (hopefully) interesting and fun photos, let me know via DM and I’ll give you the location.
OR the one where Louis needs a kissing partner, two show up, and it all might turn out for the best that way.
call my name and save me from the dark by @so-why-let-your-voice-be-tamed / we_are_the_same
[Louis/Harry, 4k, Teen & Up, tumblr post]
“I don’t know if it was a nightmare,” he confesses to the ceiling, the darkness making it easier to speak up even when he still has to close his eyes to stop himself from tearing up. “It feels more like a memory. But it can’t be.”
Harry shifts, and Louis can feel his chin perched on his chest, doesn’t need to look at him to know that Harry’s studying him. “Why?” He prompts, when Louis doesn’t immediately continue, and Louis swallows, tries to shrug off the apprehension, the fear that Harry will think that he’s gone mad.
“Because I heard them pronounce me dead.”
Feels like home by @neondiamond
[Louis/Harry, 2k, Explicit, tumblr post]
Louis comes home from work with an exciting surprise. Daydreaming and celebrations ensue.
this is my jam by @disgruntledkittenface
[Harry/Louis, 4k, Mature, tumblr post]
The guy’s eyes are so blue that Harry can’t tear his gaze away, even as he moves to the beat. The searing light shade is magnetic; he finds himself leaning in and yelling, “This is my jam!” only to earn a laugh from thin pink lips that Harry’s definitely going to be dreaming about tonight.
“Your jam?”
When the guy yells back over the music, his blue eyes sparkling and his lips twisted in a smirk, Harry’s chest literally puffs out with pride at earning his attention. His obvious approval. Tongue-tied, Harry nods and closes his eyes as he lets go, the music reverberating around them. All of the usual inhibitions that keep him in the corner at parties fall away and he bounces around the center of the dance floor, waving his arms above his head. Somehow his towel stays on, even as he starts to think he wouldn’t mind if it fell off. Fuck it. He finally made it here, he’s damn well going to enjoy it.
Harry goes to a gay bathhouse for the first time. 90s AU.
I Know My Arithmedick (2 + 2 = 4sum) by yeah_alright / @uhoh-but-yeah-alright
[Harry/Louis + Louis/multiple partners, 3k, Explicit, tumblr post]
Harry wants to watch Louis fuck someone else. Louis loves giving Harry what he wants. It’s simple math, really.
doG…and his friend by @uhoh-but-yeah-alright / yeah_alright
[Louis/Harry, 3k, Teen & Up, tumblr post]
When Joan has to move out of her small, nice home and in with a random roommate, she obviously brings her dog/boyfriend, Doug, with her.
Doug makes a friend. And maybe more.
I Heard You Talking by @lululawrence
[Louis/Harry, 10k, Not Rated, tumblr post]
It had been an hour of their noise that Louis had been dealing with, and for some reason the fact that these grown men were being this rowdy in the quiet carriage over a game of Uno was the breaking point for him. He stood up and turned around, making his way down to where the group of five were somehow gathered around a table.
Louis stopped at the table and cleared his throat, mouth open and ready to politely request they keep it down when the man who was sitting with his back to Louis turned.
He was stunningly gorgeous.
Blinking a ridiculous number of times in an attempt to pull himself together, Louis coughed and spit out, “This is the quiet carriage.”
God, he was nearly forty and that was the best he could do in front of a set of pretty, green eyes?
Or the one where Harry is famous and Louis doesn't have a clue. Good thing his son is able to help him out.
All That You Need by @haztobegood
[Louis/Harry, 2k, Explicit, tumblr post]
Pre-heat was always one of Harry’s favorite times to spend with Louis. It was a time to rest up and indulge in extra cuddles, like basking in a ray of sunshine before having to dive off the deep end. Louis lavishes him with tender touches and soft kisses. Harry wants to savor this time as long as possible. The unquenchable need will come later, but for now, his desires are simple. He just needed to be closer to his alpha. As close as possible.
sickly sweet fonding by amomentoflove / @daggerandrose
[Louis/Harry, 1k, General, tumblr post]
A few members of their crew start piling up the dirty dishes and taking them over to the sink. Harry walks around the cameras, and smiles brightly at Louis.
“What do you think, Lou? Do I have it in the bag?”
Louis eyes a bowl of bright pink lumpy batter being cleaned from Harry’s side. “Of course you do.” He wraps an arm around Harry’s waist and steers him away, all while ignoring the dramatic gagging Niall is doing. He doesn’t think it’s just the batter making Niall gag.
or the one where Louis fonds over Harry's horrible baking skills
Fractured Moonlight by amomentoflove / @daggerandrose
[Louis/Harry, 1k, Mature, tumblr post]
Louis huffs because he doesn’t want to deal with this. “Listen, I appreciate your concern.” He doesn’t. “But it’s not your duty to look after the sad man at the bar. Okay?”
'Ere comes the milk by stretchmybones / @onlyfor-thegays
[Harry/Louis, 1k, Explicit]
Louis is obsessed with Harry's mommy milkers.
everything comes back to you by stretchmybones / @onlyfor-thegays
[Louis/Harry, 8k, Explicit]
Harry and Louis are childhood best friends. What happens when Harry has to move towns just as they are starting their secondary gender presentations? What happens when fate brings them back together years later in the most unexpected of ways?
He Still Takes My Breath Away by @parmahamlarrie
[Harry/Louis, 32k, Teen & Up, tumblr post]
Camp Infinity is the perfect place for a lot of things; hiking, swimming, sports, eating, and falling in love. Harry Styles is a bit too familiar with the last one from his years of being a camper. This year things will be different. He’s 21, a grown man now, and ready to see Camp Infinity from a different point of view; working as a lifeguard. And, sometimes, you just need a little push to realize what was right in front of you the whole time.

No, that's the tragic part of this, the part that makes Harry feel like the universe is playing a cruel joke on him. The father of his baby is exactly right, exactly who he always imagined himself having kids with. He just imagined them married, bonded. Happy. He didn't imagine them barely talking, tip-toeing around each other because neither of them is brave enough to talk about what happened between them. He didn't imagine the father of his child not loving him back.

The problem is, Louis thinks Greg would be quite good to date, so it would really help if everyone would stop reminding him of that fact so he could unthink it. He’d be a gentleman, at least until Louis talked him out of it, and he’s funny and nice and hot and they’re both into music and football and drama. He’s also a freakish giant of a human, and the problem with dating is that sooner or later you have to stand next to each other.

As the garbage fire year of 2020 continues, I have been struggling to find something to fill the Schitt’s-Creek-sized hole in my heart.
Which, come to think of it, replaced the Parks-and-Rec-sized hole in my heart prior to that.  I’ve always been a sucker for “soft” television, but with everything going on the world, whatever tolerance I had for heavier fare has disappeared completely.  Like, yeah, I’d love to catch I May Destroy You or I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, but I just. Can’t. Handle. Them. Right now, anyway.
I do have some old standards to fall back on-- Bob’s Burgers, The Good Place, The Great British Baking Show, and Kim’s Convenience (bless you, Canada) work just fine.  But with so much time at home, I’ve been getting antsy for new, soft, comforting content.
Then I watched Julie and the Phantoms on Netflix.
Tumblr media
And I loved it SO. MUCH.
(Warning, since this is a family-friendly show: profanity ahead.)
Which, I have to admit, I’m kind of embarrassed about.  Like, look: I fully own up to the fact that my tastes aren’t exactly refined or mature.  I’m one of those contemptible “childless millennials”, after all.  There are things on my Netflix and Spotify lists that would make film buffs and hipsters cry.
But what I will give myself a pat on the back for is that I’m extremely open-minded when it comes to any sort of art consumption.  My tastes are super-varied, and I don’t have the burden of worrying about what is “socially acceptable” for me to watch.  I can watch Barry and Fleabag just as happily as I can watch Sarah & Duck (literally, a show for preschoolers that works better than any anti-anxiety medication I’ve tried) and old episodes of Tiny Toon Adventures.
Regardless, there’s embarrassment. Which is not about the fact that it’s a cheesy, High-School-Musical-esque, pre-teen friendly series, actually (... okay, maybe a little), but because the aging freakout is real, my friends.  Hitting the “Oh-My-God, I’d-Have-To-Play-the-PARENT” period of your life is fucking rough.
Basically, in the words of Roger Murtaugh... I’m too old for this shit.
But I’m trying to tell myself that 1) Generation Z is delightful and I refuse to feel guilt for appreciating them, 2) god knows we’re all watching Stranger Things without embarrassment, and those kids are, like, twelve, and 3) now that I’m apparently ANCIENT, I’m supposed to stop caring about what other people think.
So: Julie and the Phantoms made my heart grow three sizes and I loved it a whole lot.
Quick synopsis: Julie, our hero, is a performing arts school student who is grieving the death of her mom and unable to continue making/playing music because of it.  One day, three ghosts of teenage boys who were in a mid-90’s rock band show up in her garage.  They form a new band (insert title of show here) and help Julie rediscover her love of music, while she helps them navigate the afterlife.  Bonding occurs, lessons are learned, the power of friendship is discovered, you get the idea.
And okay-- at its surface, it’s family-friendly entertainment, you know? Cute story, funny moments, the music is catchy, the whole cast is super talented (and, hey, can actually play their instruments! Whaddaya know!).
But the CHARACTERS!  THE SOFTNESS! THE REPRESENTATION!  If this is how young adults are going to written from now on, sign me the fuck up.
First of all, the two female leads of the show are women of color-- Julie (Madison Reyes) is Latinx and her best friend, Flynn (Jadah Marie), is Black.  That alone is (sadly, STILL) noteworthy, but I literally wanted to stand on my couch and yell about how wonderfully self-assured, smart, mature, strong, and competent these girls are.  Julie, in particular, is just… she’s just so cool, you guys. She never once has to rely on anyone else but herself to get shit done, and she takes responsibility for her own actions.  The girl very clearly knows her talent, capabilities, and worth, and PHEW, do we need to see more young women like her on our screens!  Like, yes, the boys support her, but they’re complete equals.  Julie doesn’t need any male saviors up in this business. She’s got this.  I LOVE HER. I SOMEHOW WANT TO BE HER WHEN I GROW UP, EVEN THOUGH SHE’S LIKE HALF MY AGE (oh GOD. I’m so OLD).
Tumblr media
In fact, throughout the series, the importance of honesty, respect, and healthy support is repeatedly emphasized.  There’s no dependency issues here, and lying of any kind is clearly forbidden.  Which I loved, because the whole “teen lying to everyone” storyline has been done to death.
Then there’s the three boys of Sunset Curve-- Luke (Charlie Gillespie), Alex (Owen Joyner), and Reggie (Jeremy Shada), i.e. the messengers of destruction for toxic masculinity.  THIS IS THE MALE FRIENDSHIP PORTRAYAL WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR, PEOPLE.  They’re so nice to each other! They’re so supportive! They’re tactile, openly emotional, and completely devoid of judgment of any interests or behaviors that don’t follow male social standards.  Bless the Age of the Soft Boys, may their reign be unbreakable and everlasting.
Tumblr media
Oh, and Alex is openly gay.  It’s not just hinted at-- he’s out and proud, with an adorable crush/pre-relationship with a skater boy named Willie (Booboo Stewart).  And, apart from a quick mention about Alex’s parents being homophobic, the show pretty much takes the Schitt’s Creek route-- all love and acceptance, with not much of a thing made of his sexuality at all (in fact, there’s enough evidence that none of the boys are completely straight, and I’m here for that, too).
And if all of that isn’t enough of a cuddle to the heart for you, THERE’S MORE:
Julie’s supportive, soft dad
Reggie’s immediate, one-sided bond with Julie’s supportive, soft dad and her brother
Julie and Luke totally have crushes on each other and it’s SO SWEET but completely age-appropriate, good job guys
I’m a sucker for good harmonies and the band HAS ‘EM IN SPADES
Flynn being HBIC the entire series
Julie’s crush Nick being very realistically awkward and dopey in the shadow of Luke’s arms (Nick, dude, lose that HAT, I beg of you)
A surprisingly moving side-plot/song about Luke’s parents
Alex just wanting to dance, and also being a high-key feminist and calling out the others when they slip up
EVERYONE’S JUST SO FUCKING NICE, OKAY
So yeah. Shut up. It’s wonderful and pure, and I WILL TAKE ANY SOFTNESS I CAN GET IN THIS HELL YEAR, WHEREVER I CAN GET IT.
In conclusion, Kenny Ortega can have my entire soul if he wants it, for not only this but also Hocus Pocus and Newsies.
Completely Unnecessary Afterword:
Being old enough to remember 1995-- and, specifically, what was popular that year-- has brought up some important questions regarding the Sunset Curve boys:
We know they died in ‘95, but like… when? Did they get to see Empire Records, for Christ’s sake?! Did they see Casper, because, I mean, they’re basically the Devon Sawas of 2020?  Were they spared their contemporaries’ fate of constantly over-quoting Billy Madison and Tommy Boy?
OH MY GOD, DID THEY HAVE AOL SCREEN NAMES, AND WHAT WERE THEY??
What are each of the guys’ favorite song off of Boyz II Men’s “II”? This is possibly the MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION.
Did they die before Jagged Little Pill came out?  That would kind of break my heart.  Not that I expect Julie to start portraying Alanis-levels of anger/angst, but ‘95 was a YEAR for women in rock.  Garbage, Hole, No Doubt, PJ Harvey, The Cranberries, Veruca Salt, Bjork, and countless others-- they all had massive hits that year.  I love the idea of Julie and the guys sitting around the garage listening to all of those women for inspiration.  Can we have a resurgence of female-led rock bands taking over the charts, please?
On a much more serious note, given where the AIDS crisis was in ‘95, it’s no wonder Alex is a nervous wreck. It’s not really something I expect the show to delve into, but man… getting transported to 2020 might’ve been a bit of a blessing (not that things are great now, but y’know, medical progress).
How in the world did none of them fall victim to the whole “white boys dressing hip-hop” trend back in ‘95? I mean… Clueless got it right. (Wait, did they make it to Clueless??)

Artist in the Devildom
Jax has just arrived in the Devildom as the newest human exchange student at R.A.D.  With Arianthi and the seven lords of the Devildom to guide them this exchange year should be a breeze.  Right?
Tumblr media
Written from the perspective of my non-binary OC, Jax Montgomery.  Jax uses they/them pronouns.
This story takes place in the Truth or Dare AU where Mammon and Arianthi get engaged.
I would like to give a massive shout-out and heartfelt thank you to @fivenightsat-enbys for all their help and being so wonderfully patient with me and my questions.
Tumblr media
The flash of bright white light is blinding, and my body feels like it’s falling through an endless tunnel.  I know that this is allegedly safe, but that doesn’t stop me from scrunching my eyes closed and letting out a high pitched scream.  I’m still screaming when I feel my feet touch solid ground.  After a few seconds I simmer down and open my eyes, blinking away stars.
Once I can see again I find myself standing in front of two men and a girl around my age, in an office that can only be described as rich old white man aesthetic.  Lots of large dark oak furniture, some obviously antique oil paintings of naked people and things I’ll probably have nightmares about later.  Gold lighting fixtures.
Into it.  Very into it.
I clutch onto my duffel bag and octopus plushie, shuffling my feet and giving them all an awkward wave.
“Yo,” I say, attempting a smile.
Given the current state of my stomach and the fact that I was currently standing in the Devildom, face to face with some real life demons, it feels a little forced.
Why did I agree to this?  Definitely, most probably, in the top three of my worst ideas of all time.
The taller of the two men steps forward, flashing me an enthusiastic grin.
“Jax Monteiro?  Welcome to the Royal Academy of Diavolo.  We’re so excited to have another human student here!”
“Whoa!  Down boy,” the girl says, stepping towards me with giggle, patting the auburn haired man on the arm.  “Give them a second to adjust.  Portal jumping is harder on us poor humans than it is on you all.”
She holds out her hand.  “Hi Jax, I’m Arianthi Wolf.  I’m the ambassador to all the exchange students here at R.A.D.  And I’m a human student too, so you’re not all alone down here.”
She gives me a soft smile of reassurance.
I quickly give her hand a shake, returning the smile, mine more genuine this time.  Arianthi is about six or seven inches shorter than me, with long curly black hair and bright green eyes.  A smattering of freckles runs across her nose and cheeks, standing out against her pale skin.
I’d love to draw her.
I’m itching to get my hands on my sketchbook.
The guys too.  And this room is insane.
She motions at the auburn haired man next to her.  He towers over her, looking like a giant standing next to a pixie.  I’ve always considered myself tall at 6′3, but this guy has a good six or seven inches on me.
This must be how mom felt when she asked me to get stuff off the high shelves at the grocery store.
“This is Lord Diavolo, founder of R.A.D., and the human, angel, demon exchange program here.  The goal is to bring the celestial realm, human realm, and the Devildom closer together and foster a better understanding between the three.”  She pauses for breath.  “He’s also the prince of the Devildom.”
Holy shit.
“Do I need to like, bow or something?”  I ask nervously.
Diavolo chuckles.  “Please don’t.  I just wanted to welcome you to the Devildom before returning to my duties.  Arianthi will help you get settled in and go over your course schedule with you.  You’ll be staying with her at the House of Lamentation along with the seven lords of the Devildom.”  He gives me a boyish grin.  “I hope your year with us is less eventful than Arianthi’s first year.”
“Diavolo!”  Arianthi gives him an exasperated grin while he waggles his eyebrows at her.
He holds his hand up, laughing.  “Sorry princess, I couldn’t resist.”
Princess?  Oh, I’m totally asking her for a story time once we’re alone.
Diavolo motions the other man in the room forward.  He’s closer to my size, with delicate features, turquoise hair, and moss green eyes.
“This is my servant Barbatos.  If you find yourself needing anything and are unable to reach Arianthi or any of the lords, he can help you.”
Barbatos offers me a small nod.
“Barbatos is the one who really runs things here.”  Arianthi gives me a mischievous smirk.  “He’s also an amazing chef.  The best baker in all three realms.  His devilberry tarts are to die for.”
She mimes swooning.
Barbatos beams at her praise.  “You flatter me Arianthi.”
Diavolo rubs his hands together, smiling.  “Well, we really do need to be going.  I have to welcome the new angels to Purgatory Hall.  I’ll leave you to it Arianthi.  Don’t worry Jax, you’re in very good hands.”
He gives Arianthi a wink.
Hate to break it to you Diavolo but as cute as she is, I’m more interested in how good your hands are.
“Dia!”  Arianthi gives him a dirty look.  “Stop that!  I’m sure Jax doesn’t appreciate it, and you know Mammon hates it when you do that.”
Mammon?  A third player has entered the game.  This could be some spicy telenovela shit.  Must.  Know.  Now.
Diavolo just chuckles at her and exits the room, Barbatos in tow.
“Okay, tell me everything princess.  I have to know.”  I smirk at her and she rolls her eyes good naturally.
“Dia and I were a.....thing for a while.”  She waves her hand dismissively, looking slightly annoyed.  “He’s still a little in his feelings about things, but I’m engaged now.  Sometimes he likes to push my fiance’s buttons.  Diavolo is a lot of fun but he is a world class shit stirrer.”
“Mammon is the fiance?”  I guess.
She gives me a soft smile.  “Yeah.  He lives at the House of Lamentation too, so you’ll be meeting him soon.  Anyways, we should get going.  Do you need help carrying anything?”
I hold up my duffel bag and my plushie.  “This is all I brought with me.  But you can carry Samson if you want.”
I hand over the large purple octopus.
“He.  Is.  Adorable.  Levi would love him.”  She cuddles Samson close to her chest as she leads me out of Diavolo’s office.
“So, right now we’re in the Demon Lord’s Castle.  Diavolo and Barbatos live here, and there are always some high ranking demons staying here too, trying to get in good with Diavolo.  You’ll be here off and on throughout the year for parties and things like that.  Hopefully you’ll escape the “bonding sleepover” ordeal I went through my first year.”  She shudders.
“Bonding sleepover?  Like a summer camp bonding sleepover?” I quirk an eyebrow at her.
She gives me a long suffering look.  “Dia is like a kid in a candy store when it comes to human world activities.  It was his idea.”
I chuckle.  “It was that bad?”
Arianthi holds up a hands and starts ticking events off on her fingers.
“I got sucked into an evil possessed painting with some others and we ended up in the dungeon.  In the dungeon we were almost eaten by Henry 1.0, who may be the biggest snake to ever exist, like anywhere.  Then when we tried to get a picture of Lucifer sleeping we ended up getting chased by Cerberus and we wound up in the dungeon again.  Where Henry 1.0 tried to eat us.  Again.  And there was a pillow fight where everyone ended up unconscious except for Diavolo and Lucifer.  And me, but only because I was hiding under my bed.”
I stare at her, mouth open, debating if she’s being serious or not.  She looks back at me, face unchanged.
“Oh, wow, you’re actually being serious,” I say.
I don’t know if I’m terrified or....nope.  Definitely a little terrified after that story.  And why did they want a picture of Lucifer sleeping?
As if she can sense my fear Arianthi gives my shoulder a comforting squeeze.  “I know it sounds insane but every day isn’t going to be like that here.  And you’ll always have someone looking out for you.”
I breathe out a sigh of relief and give her a quick grin.  “Thanks, Arianthi.”
We make our way outside, and I’m startled by the fog and dim sunlight.
It’s the middle of the day, right?  Or does time work differently here?
I must look confused because Arianthi quickly explains.  “Time works the same here, but the weather is different from the human realm. We don’t get bright sunlight down here.”
She shrugs apologetically.
“It’s all good,” I tell her with a smile.  “I figured things would be different when I agreed to all this.”
She giggles.  “At least they gave you some warning.  I was one of the first humans picked for the program and they just zapped me out of my apartment without warning.  One minute I’m on my couch watching The Great British Bake Off, and the next I’m down here.  Mammon and Asmo had to take me shopping for a whole new wardrobe.”
“Damn.”  I join in on her laughter.  “So how did you adjust to being here?”
Her mouth scrunches to one side as she ponders my question.  “It was hard, that first month.  None of the demons were really used to humans, and a lot of them didn’t want me here.  But I gradually got closer to the brothers and that helped.  Now it’s hard to imagine my life without them.  They’re family now, you know?”
I nod.  “Do you think I’ll have any issues here?”
“Nah.”  She shakes her head.  “I’ll be looking out for you and whatever classes we don’t have together you’ll have with one of the boys.  Lucifer made sure of it.  But if you do want to go out somewhere be sure to take me or one of them with you.  Some of the lower level demons are still assholes about humans being here.  I get a little more respect now that I’m Mammon’s fiancee and a full time resident of the House of Lamentation.”
We meander through the R.A.D. campus, Arianthi pointing out various buildings and explaining the curriculum to me.
“Ok, so......the seven demon lords that we’ll be living with.  Lay it on me.  I wanna know what I’m getting into.”
Arianthi takes a deep breath.  “I’ll just give you the rundown from oldest to youngest.  Hold on, because this family is a roller coaster of ‘what the fuck’.”
I snort out a little laugh.  “I’m from Florida.  There is literally nothing here that can shock me.”
“If you say so,” Arianthi replies with a smirk.  “Buckle up buttercup, because we’re going to run through this fast.  Oh, and the brothers are ranked in accordance to how powerful they are, not their actual ages.  But they are all thousands of years old, in case you were wondering.   Anyways the oldest is Lucifer, the Avatar of Pride.  He’s Diavolo’s second in command down here.  Very serious, doesn’t laugh much.  He’s like the dad at the House of Lamentation.  But not the fun kind.  Don’t let any of the others talk you into trying to prank him.  Unless I’m in on it, because I’m always down for that shit.”
I have found my people.
“The second oldest is Mammon and he’s the Avatar of Greed.  Don’t leave anything valuable laying around or he’ll take it and try to sell it for some quick Grimm.”
“Wait?  Isn’t Mammon your fiance?”  I’m confused.
She gives me a self-deprecating shrug.  “The heart wants what the heart wants.  We’ve been working on the stealing thing, but at the end of the day he is the Avatar of Greed and it’s hard to control that.  He models too, to earn some extra Grimm.  I’ve been pushing for him to do more of that to curb the stealing.  Oh!  I forgot, Grimm is our currency down here.  I’ll hook you up with some so don’t worry about that.”
“Oh no you don’t have to-” I try to protest but she cuts me off with a smile.
“Really, I want to.  I want you to be able to enjoy your time here, not worrying about trying to find a part time job to earn some cash.”
“Lucifer is the house dad, but you’re totally the house mom aren’t you?”
Seriously, this girl might be an angel.
She blushes a little.  “Um....guilty.  I sort of fell into it my first year here.  The boys needed someone to take care of them then.”  She pauses.  “They still sort of do honestly.”
I laugh.  “Alright, who’s next?  Hit me with it.”
Arianthi pauses, like she’s trying to come up with the right words.  “Levi.  Well Leviathan, but you can call him Levi.  He’s more introverted than the rest.  Very into gaming, anime, movies.......and a book series called The Seven Lords.”
“I’ve read that!”  I exclaim.  “Great series.  I brought some anime with me too.”
“Cool.”  She grins at me.  “Sounds like you guys have some things in common.  I bet he’d love to see some anime from the human realm.  He’s obsessed with Ruri-Chan too, but I’ll let him explain all of that to you.  He’s also the leader of Hell’s Navy because of the whole lord of the sea thing he’s got going on.  And he’s the Avatar of Envy, so try not to take any of the things he says too seriously when he’s acting jealous.”
“Wait, what?  Lord of the sea thing?”
Mind.  Blown.
“Yep.”  She nods enthusiastically.  “He can summon and control sea monsters and all sorts of underwater nightmare fuel.”
“Bad fucking ass.”
“Right?”  She laughs.  “On to the next.  This is where things get kinda weird.”
“Weirder than summoning sea monsters?”  I ask.
“Like daddy who is also my brother weird.”  She answers with a straight face.
“Get the fuck out of here,” I say with a laugh.
“Satan is the fourth brother.  He’s the Avatar of Wrath so try not to piss him off.  He’s very intelligent, loves to read.  But don’t touch his books without permission.  Actually, just stay out of his room all together.”
I look at her and smirk.  “This is all fascinating but I’m still waiting on the daddy/brother angle.”
She laughs.  “Ok, ok, ok.  When the boys fell from heaven Lucifer’s rage was so intense that it became a sentient entity.”
“Satan?”
She shoots me some finger guns.  “Exactly.  Lucifer and the other brothers raised him.  He gets a few characteristics from each of them, but he’s most like Lucifer.  Which pisses him off because he hates the thought of being like Lucifer.  And Lucifer doesn’t want to think of Satan as his son, so everyone just refers to Satan as their brother.”
I shake my head in wonder.  “It’s just like being back in Florida.”
Suddenly a white haired demon comes and grabs Arianthi from behind, picking her up and spinning her around.
“Yo, what the hell?”  I yelp in surprise.
The demon sets her down, hugging her from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder and nuzzling his face into her neck.  Arianthi lets out a high pitched squeal as his hair and nose tickle her.  He eventually stops, staring at me suspiciously over her shoulder.
“Hey babe, who’s he?”
Awkward.........
Arianthi elbows his ribs.  “Mammon, this is Jax.  They’re the new human exchange student who’s going to be staying with us this year.  So be nice to them.”
She stresses my pronouns and a look of realization crosses Mammon’s face.
“Oh shit!”  He looks contrite.  “I am so sorry.  I shoulda thought before I said anything.”
He releases Arianthi and holds out his hand.
I shake it.  “No worries.  It happens.  Thanks for apologizing though.”
He gives me a crooked grin.  “Still, I am really sorry.  Won’t happen again.  And if anybody tries to mess with ya since you’re the new human around here, THE Great Mammon will handle it.”
Arianthi rolls her eyes fondly at me and shakes her head behind his back.  “I’m sure Jax appreciates the sentiment, but everything will be ok.”
I grin back at Mammon.  “Arianthi’s probably right, I should be fine.  It’s cool of you to offer though.”
Arianthi wraps her arms around his waist and looks up at him adoringly.  “But if any demon does try to give Jax a hard time I’ll tell my big, strong, handsome fiance and let him sort them out.”
Mammon puffs up with pride and he looks down at her lovingly.  “Damn right ya will.”  He presses a kiss to her forehead.  As he pulls away he notices Samson in her arms.  “Oi!  What is that?”
“Isn’t he cute?”  Arianthi holds him up and wiggles one of his tentacles.
I shrug and kick away a rock.  “He’s mine,” I admit.
“Cute as hell,” Mammon says, one slender finger reaching out to touch the plush fabric.  “Levi would love ‘em.”
“That what’s she said.”  I gesture at Arianthi.
He chuckles, throwing an arm around her shoulders.  “I just wanted to tell ya hi baby.  I gotta run to the store real quick then get back to the house.  I’m on dinner duty tonight with Levi.”
Arianthi stretches up on her tiptoes to give him a soft kiss on the lips.  “Ok, I’ll see you at home.”
“See ya later.  Bye Jax.”  Mammon gives us a small wave and starts to walk away.
“Oh!  Don’t forget that Beel had practice today so make extra!  He’ll be hungrier than usual!”  She calls out after him.
He turns around and blows her a kiss to acknowledge that he heard her.  She smiles as she watches him walk away, then turns back to me, serious.
“I really am sorry about that.  I’ve told everyone your preferred pronouns so it shouldn’t happen again and if it does -”
I hold up my hands and give her a small smile.  “Hey, hey, hey.  Shit happens.  And it’s not like he did it on purpose.  Plus he apologized, then offered to look out for me which was pretty cool of him.”
She still looks concerned.  “I just don’t want you to feel like you can’t be yourself.  Especially at home.  I want you to be comfortable here.”
“It really is fine.  He figured out his mistake and apologized, and I bet it won’t ever happen again.”  I smile and gently nudge her with my elbow.  “And if anybody starts some shit I’ll just let the house mom take care of it.”
Arianthi gives me a soft shove and laughs.  “Damn right you will.  I’ve got your back down here.”
We start walking again.
“Ok, who’s next in the line up?”  I ask.
She gives a big sigh.  “The Avatar of Lust, Asmodeus.  You can call him Asmo, everybody does.”
“Lust hmmm?”  I raise my eyebrows.
“He’s sweet, he really is.  Very into self-care and indulgence.  Just don’t spend any time alone with him until we know how his powers affect you.”
I look at her in shock.  “Are you saying he’d try to.......?”
“No! Nothing like that,”  Arianthi reassures me.  “Asmo would never force anyone to do anything they didn’t want to do.  But since he is the Avatar of Lust he’s able to bring out other people deepest wishes, kinda like a walking aphrodisiac.  Some people are immune to it, others can learn to block it out.  Those that aren’t have a tendency to.......overindulge in their most decadent desires.”  She gives me a pointed look.  “So until we know how you’ll react, no alone time with Asmo.”
I make my most serious face and give her a quick salute.  “Yes ma’am.”
She uses one of Samson’s tentacles to slap my arm and laughs.  “Smart ass.”
I smirk.  “Alright, Asmo is number five so who are the last two?”
Arianthi chews on her lower lip for a moment, as if internally debating what she wants to tell me.  Finally she gives me a small smile and starts to talk.
“Beelzebub is sixth and Belphegor is seventh.  We call them the twins though, because their father created them at the same time, and they’re extremely close.  They’re together almost all the time.”
I interrupt.  “Wait, their father?  Like God?”
Arianthi’s eyes grow dark and she scowls.  “He’s a piece of shit,” she mutters.
“Did you just call God a piece of shit?”  I ask her, shocked.
“When there’s a dad out there who can make my dad look like Father of the Year, then you know the guy’s a total ass bag,” she growls.
“You just called God an ass bag.  I feel like I’m missing a lot of backstory here,” I respond.
She shakes her head as if she’s shaking away her negative thoughts.  “I’m sorry Jax.  There’s a lot of history you’ll learn this year, and how the boys fell from grace is part of it.  It was hard on all of them, but Beel and Belphie took the hardest hit.  It will be up to them to tell you their side of things though, in their own time.”
“No worries.  I’ve got patience for days.”  I grin at her. “You’ve got serious beef with God huh?
“I’d throat punch him if someone gave me half a chance,” she answers seriously.
“You don’t look like it but you’re frightening.”  I laugh.  “But it’s the kind of frightening I want on my side at all times.”
She laughs with me.  “I told you I have your back Jax.  Always.”
“That means a lot Arianthi.”
Not many people do now days.
“So Beelzebub and Belphegor?”   I ask.
“Beel and Belphie.”  She smiles to herself.  “Beel is the Avatar of Gluttony, and his food intake is phenomenal.  Do not ever come between him and his food, and if you see a container in the fridge with his name on it, don’t even breathe near it.  He once wrecked the kitchen and one of the walls to my old room because Mammon and I ate some of his custard.”
I stare at her.
“It’s like I haven’t even left Florida,” I whisper reverently, and she huffs out an amused laugh.
“A lot of people treat Beel like food is his only interest, but it really isn’t.  He plays sports and he works out everyday, so if you ever want to join him for a workout he’d be thrilled to have a buddy.  He’s really sweet, thoughtful, and kind.  And sensitive, but he tries to hide it so he can stay looking strong for the people he cares about.  He never wants to let anybody down if they need him.  He’ll open up if he gets close to you though.”
“It sounds like you guys are really close,” I say quietly.
I wonder how Mammon feels about that?
She stops walking and turns to look at me, a shadow passing over her face.  “I’m an only child and my mom and dad weren’t very good at the whole parenting thing.  I wound up in foster care when I was 5.  Stayed there until I aged out.  I would have given anything for a big brother like Beel back then.  He’s really taken care of me since I’ve been here, and been nothing but supportive of me.”  She gives me a shaky smile.  “I’ve got my big brother now so I try to look out for him however I can.”
“He sounds like a really good guy,” I say, suddenly feeling guilty for my earlier thought.
“He is,” Arianthi answers and we resume walking.  “Belphie is the Avatar of Sloth, so he’s constantly sleepy.  He can nap anywhere, and he gets super cuddly with people when he does, so if that’s not your jam be sure to let him know.  Don’t touch his cow pillow.  He’s pretty sarcastic and he can be hard to get to know, but he’s sweet when you do.”
We turn a corner and she stops in front of a large three story house.  Even though it’s well maintained and beautifully built something feels a little......off about it.
This place would give the house from Texas Chainsaw Massacre a run for it’s money in the creepy as shit category.
“Here we are!” she says brightly.  “The House of Lamentation, and your new home for the next year.”
My eyes dart around, taking in every detail of the house as we walk up the steps to the front door.
Arianthi suddenly pauses with her hand on the doorknob.  “Jax there’s something else you should know about the house before we go in.”
“Ok?” I say, confused.
“Satan is a little bit of a crazy cat lady.  He’s rescues strays and keeps them until he finds new homes for them.  Lucifer says he can only have one in the house at a time, so you may occasionally be called upon to help hide one.  Or five.”
“Totally ok,” I answer with a grin, relieved that the big secret is just contraband kitties.  “I love cats so no problem on that front.”
She smiles at me as she opens the door.  “Great!”
We walk into the foyer and she shuts the door behind us.
“Also, allegedly some guy murdered his whole family here a long time ago.  So this place is probably haunted.”  She smirks at me.
“Of fucking course it is,” I mutter, playfully giving her a dirty look.
“If it makes you feel better I’ve never seen any paranormal stuff as long as I’ve been here.”
“It does.  A little bit.”  I look over and smile at her.  “Oof!”
I ram into something large, solid and......warm?  I look in front of me and see a very large, very muscled chest.  I tip my head back until I see a pair of friendly violet eyes looking into mine.
“Beel!”  Arianthi gives him a quick squeeze.  “This is Jax, the new exchange student.”
“Sorry for running into you,” I say.  “I wasn’t looking where I was going.”
I take a step back so I can get a better look at him.  Like Diavolo, he is huge.  And built.  Really built.  His shaggy, bright orange hair highlights the color of his eyes.
“It’s ok,” he tells me, smiling before he takes a large bite of the sandwich he’s holding.  He squeezes Arianthi back.  “Hey Arianthi.  When’s Mammon coming home?  He’s supposed to make dinner tonight and I’m starving.”
That smile is goddamn adorable.
I shake my head.
Get it together.  You’ve seen cute guys before.  But he is beyond cute.  And built.  And taller than me.  And if he’s everything Arianthi says he is............
I quickly slam that thought back into its box and tune into their conversation.
Arianthi is frowning.  “He should be back soon.  If he isn’t I’ll help Levi get things going so dinner isn’t late.”
He beams at her.  “Thanks Arianthi.”  He turns that megawatt smile to me.  “Do you need any help getting your stuff to your room Jax?”
I’m flustered.  Why am I flustered?  I don’t get flustered.
“N-n-no.  Thanks though.”  I give him a small smile.
Did I just stutter?  Oh god.
I internally cringe.
I see Arianthi’s eyes flicker between the two of us, and she gives me a mischievous smile.
“We might need help later though.  In case they want another dresser or any of the furniture from my old room brought into their room,” she tells him.
Beel gives us another easy grin.  “No problem.  I’ll be in my room if you need me before dinner starts.  See you later Jax.”
He ambles away, munching on his sandwich.
“See you,” I call after him.
I look to my right and see Arianthi looking at me with a shit eating grin on her face.
“Shut up,” I mutter.
“He’s cute right?”  She nudges me with her elbow.
Oh my sweet baby Jesus yes!
“He’s ok,” I say, trying to stay nonchalant.  “Seems nice.”
“Is nice Jax code for a “total snack”?  Or “I want to climb him like a tree and never come down”?”  She snickers, teasing me.
“Ok, you are officially the worst,”  I tease back, reaching out and ruffling her hair.
“But am I officially the worst and right that you think Beel is a cutie?”  She raises her eyebrows.
I’m saved from answering by Mammon bursting in through the front door, two shopping bags in hand.
“Oi!  H-h-hey Jax.  Hi baby.”  A faint pink blush dusts his cheeks and he tries to quickly edge past us.  “Runnin’ a little late, gotta get dinner goi-”
Arianthi snags the hem of his jacket, stopping him his tracks.  “What’s the rush my love?”
“N-n-no rush.  Just wanna get dinner on time.  Ya know how Beel gets.”
What is he so nervous about?
I’m suddenly very suspicious.
Please don’t be a fuck boy Mammon.
She pulls him closer and loops her arms around his neck, leaning in to give him a quick kiss on the cheek.  “Mammon?”
“Y-yeah baby?”
“Why do you smell likes witches?”  Arianthi keeps her voice light, arching an eyebrow at Mammon.
Ooh, I know that look.  Mom used to give me that look all the time.  Wait, witches?  They have witches down here too?!
“I maybe, mighta stopped at a little card game on the way to the store.”  Mammon’s tone is smug, despite the guilty look on his face.
Arianthi rolls her eyes, smiling.  “How much did you win?”
“650 Grimm.”   He smiles back at her.
She holds her hand out in a “gimme” gesture.
Mammon groans, reaches into his jacket pocket, and hands her a thick stack of bills.  “Come on baby.  Aren’t ya gonna let me keep any of it?”
She quickly divides the money, handing half to me and pocketing the rest.
“Wait, what’s this for?”  I ask, confused.
“We agreed that whenever Mammon goes gambling half of whatever he wins goes to you, so you’ll have Grimm for whatever you need here.  And the other half goes to a joint project we’re working on.”  Arianthi laces her fingers with Mammon’s and cuddles into his side.
Mammon’s irritation is instantly gone, replaced by a dreamy smile as he squeezes her hand and presses a kiss to the top of her head.
“That joint project is going to be amazing.  I just know it,” he softly whispers.
“What’s the project?”  I ask, curious.  “If it needs any artwork, I could totally help you guys out with it.”
Arianthi disentangles herself from Mammon.  “It’s a surprise for his brothers.  It’s really sweet of you to offer Jax, but I wouldn’t want to bother you -”
“You won’t!  You wouldn’t be,” I interrupt.  “I feel bad just taking your money like this, even if you guys did plan it.  So let me help you out with whatever art you may need done for this project.”
“That’s really cool of ya Jax,” Mammon says, grinning at me.  “We appreciate it.”
“Seriously,” Arianthi echoes.  “I saw some of your art when I went through your student profile.  They are insanely freaking talented,” she tells Mammon.
I can feel my face turning red.  “I’m not that great,” I manage to mumble.
“Hey, if you’re good at somethin’ don’t go bein’ modest about it,” Mammon tells me.  “I gotta go get started on the food before Beel smashes down another wall.  See ya at dinner.”
“See you,” we respond in unison as he moves towards the kitchen.
“We should get you settled into you room,” Arianthi tells me.  “I’ll show you the kitchen after dinner; you’re on dish duty with me tonight.  I hope that’s ok.”
“Totally fine.”  We start climbing a set of stairs.  “So are you going to let me in on what this surprise project is?”
“Are you going to tell me what you really think of Beel?”  She counters with a smirk.
“Touche.”  I smirk back.
“Ok, here you are.”  She stops in front of a closed door.
“That’s Beel and Belphie’s room,” she says, gesturing to the door to the right of mine.  “And Mammon and I are to the left of you.  My private library and office is on the other side of our bedroom.  If you ever need to use it you’re more than welcome to; I never lock the door.  I’ll show you where everyone else’s rooms are tomorrow.”
“Sounds good.”  I smile at her as she hands Samson to me.
“I’ll let you check out your room and unpack your stuff.  If you think of anything you want for your room we can go check out my old room tomorrow and see if you like anything in there.  I’ll come get you in about an hour for dinner.  If you need anything before then just knock, ok?”
“Ok.”  I open the door to my room, then think of something.  “Hey Arianthi?  Will my iPhone work down here?”
She shakes her head.  “No, but we’ll get you set up with a D.D.D., which is the Devildom version of an iPhone.  Barbatos is supposed to bring one by in the morning for you.”
“Oh cool, thanks.”  I smile at her and she turns to go into her room.
“Hey,” I say quickly.
She pauses in her doorway and turns towards me.  “What’s up hun?”
“You would’ve made a really good big sister.”
She gives me a gentle smile.  “Thanks Jax.  That means a lot.”
She slips into her room, softly closing the door behind her.
I step into my new room and start looking around.  There’s a desk, a couch, a small dresser, and what has to be a king size bed.
Fucking awesome.  And an en suite bathroom?  I officially love this place.
I drop my bag onto the floor and wander over to look out the window.  My room looks out over a wide expanse of forest.
Pretty view.
When I turn back around I notice that someone has left a pile of things stacked in the far corner of the room, next to my desk.  Someone has left me a bunch of............ art supplies?!
An easel, canvas, charcoal, sketchpads, pencils, oil paints; I eagerly rummage through what looks to be anything my little artist’s heart could ever possibly need or want.
Arianthi.  Had to be.  Her thoughtful ass would do something like this.
Grinning to myself I shuffle over to the bed and flop down, cuddling Samson to my chest.
I think I’m gonna like it here.

50 Word Prompts - Malcolm Astr, Martin Esmer
Hands
"Surgeon's Hands" have never been so literal, or so beloved. At least, that's what the younger man thinks as he feels them caressing his body with expert care.
-
Sleeve
The first time Malcolm sees the fairie without his arms covered - since the Incident - he has to remind himself that maybe the man is sensitive. He stares, but in simple admiration.
"Do they hurt?" He asks, cautious as ever with his fragile lover.
"Not any more."
And like that he's touching and kissing, pressing adoration into the marked and starred limbs.
-
Rescue
"I'll get you out for good some day."
Well, it was some day. The sirens blaring and the riots diverting most of the attention, it's a simple thing, really, for the changeling boy to slip in, pick a few locks, and slip right back out with his beloved in tow.
-
Opera
Martin never heard his boy sing before, he realizes, as a lovely tune floats from down the stairs where Esmer is making breakfast. He doesn't recognize the words, but it's all in French anyways.
Mostly he's amazed at how well it carries. A miracle they haven't gotten noise complaints. He'll have to try harder, then. And maybe introduce his boy to Mozart.
-
Water
It very quickly becomes apparent to Malcolm that the childhood "game" Astr is describing is straight up torture.
"And your father told your 'friends' to play this with you…? Even after you asked them to stop?"
-
Shopping
Martin immediately notices the unconscious longing Esmer holds in his gaze as they pass the baby clothes. Suddenly envisioning his lover plump and round and full of his legacy, he can't help but long as well. Soon, he resolves, they'll be adding that aisle to their weekly outing.
-
Street
"Astr, I told you, it's a grid system."
"And I told you I don't know what a grid is."
-
Window
He found glass markers in a discount bin and has been painting the windows for an hour now. It's the only part of Notre Dame that he misses, and Martin has been such a help, printing photographs and using those surgical hands to do the intricate linework.
-
Cooking
"And you're sure this one won't poison me?"
"My love, I can't even tell with you any more. But no, I've let other human people try this and no one's died yet."
-
Quiz
"And this is..?"
"The… the hippo… hippocampus?"
"Very good, my boy! You're doing great."
He is so grateful he decided to try and understand Martin's passions. It's only fair.
-
Storm
Malcolm had thought the faerie would be afraid of thunder, but it's adorable to see him running and dancing in the rain. He hasn't really been… joyful, since Malcolm saved him that night. It's a sign of healing. And, he idly thinks, he has a part in it.
-
Time
"It doesn't really mean anything to me any more."
Go figure. Allegedly a thousand years of living will do that to you.
But he does see the need to spend as much of it with Malcolm as possible.
-
Picture
Martin sketches and paints the young man constantly. He cannot help but be offended when he learns Esmer has never seen himself in a photograph, and several tasteful shots (and a brief break with a decidedly un-tasteful couple of shots), and a small pack of photo paper later, Esmer really can appreciate how accurate the art is.
-
Blanket
When it starts to tatter, Astr gifts Malcolm with a new, larger weighted blanket for their cuddle sessions.
-
Light
Martin had never really appreciated the rainbow of colours different times of the day could have on skin until he had a darker lover. Blues and purples dance in the moonlight, followed by hours at an easel trying to mix the paints just right.
-
Shade
"I burn easy. Even easier now," the faerie mutters from beneath the parasol. He however will force Malcolm out to get some sun. It's good for him.
-
Pool
Large bodies of water frighten him, but if Martin gets in, he can too. He feels safe, knows he won't drown, knows Martin won't shove him down until he passes out. So he can get in, can also enjoy the sight of his lover's body, which seems like his reward.
-
Leaves
"No way. No. No. You're kidding."
Cronch cronch.
"Delicious."
He really just ate a leaf. Was he taking a joke too far? He won't tell.
-
Sweet
Strawberries taste much better stolen from his lover's lips.
-
Color
"So, are all faeries as colourful as you?"
"My brothers are, yes, but we come in all shades and palettes, really."
Malcolm finds he likes a little more blue in his life.
-
Phone
"Do I really need this?"
"Yes. I need to be able to reach you if I need to."
He didn't expect the addiction to bejeweled, and maybe he regrets getting his love a smartphone.
-
Race
"Okay so you're a faerie. But you have a brother who's an elf?"
"Half-elf. He has a tail and pointier ears and no wings, and he's a lot more muscled than me or our youngest brother, but he's also a lot more colourful than most elves and his skin takes tattoo ink very well."
"So is this a distinction in species or…?"
"No, it's more like how you humans are all different colours."
"But it's more dramatic than that?"
"A little. But thinking about it now I think it's a lot of political nonsense."
-
Stroll
Walking in the forest beneath a full moon, he can see the ethereal beauties of his lover.
-
Film
"Okay so you call picture-shows what now?"
"It depends on the length."
Human technology is so confusing sometimes, but definitely worth it to watch "Great British Bake-Off."
-
Bottle
"Is that the green fairy I spy? My dear boy I didn't know you had a thing for absinthe..."
"Not really. I just like the colour of the glass."
There are more valuable liquids to fill it with anyway.
-
Art
It unites them, in its way. Though they may not share a common medium, they're happy to create in a shared space.
-
Cork
"Much nicer than rocks," he murmurs offhandedly. Malcolm has no idea if he's serious. It's one of the things he loves the most.
-
Grasp
"I have you. I promise. I have you." He clings to his lover and bawls, finally safe enough to feel the anguish before he loses his mind.
-
Space
"Do you believe in aliens, or is that just a human thing?"
"It would be silly if anyone looked up there and didn't wonder if we're really all alone. Though interpretations differ."
"So just like humans yet again."
"You say that like it's surprising, my love."
My love.
To think the first time he said that would be looking up from the roof of the precinct during a five minute break.
-
Dream
His sleep looks more peaceful now. Good. Martin idly wonders if he comforts Esmer in there too.
-
Scare
When he sees him standing over… something, covered in blood, face snarling and… fangy, Malcolm can't help the adrenaline that shoots through his veins.
-
Mask
"I'm Fine."
Martin knows what it really means.
-
Thrice
Three is the number of times he makes Astr come, minimum, before he'll let himself.
-
Adventure
"Don't drink the wine, or you'll be stuck forever."
"Promise?"
-
Risk
He knows Martin is dangerous. An apex predator, and he might as well be a fluffy little lamb.
-
Security
Malcolm's arms are the safest place he's ever known. Strong enough to help him lift the world from his shoulders, but soft enough to absorb his tears.
-
Hold
With the gentlest touch, Martin realizes, he's more powerful than anyone in Esmer's life.
-
Lie
"I'm fine."
Malcolm doesn't let the hurt show. He knows he has to let him grieve. At least for a while.
-
Chill
"It's so cold…"
The Romani boy is burning up, and Martin knows that this isn't just a cold.
-
Plant
"I think it'll help. Give you something to love while you recover."
Astr's never loved a succulent so much.
-
Door
When Esmer brings home the sonogram, they don't even make it all the way into the bedroom. Martin's so much stronger than he looks, and a doorway is sturdy.
-
Boat
Esmer talks in his sleep. When it isn't about a red room, he whimpers about the rocking.
-
Pet
"Hello my love, how are we today?"
Malcolm never says "Disney Princess" out loud, but he always thinks it when he sees him interact with Sunshine.
-
Embrace
To look at Malcolm, you wouldn't think he would give such incredible hugs. It's Astr's best kept secret.
-
Run
It's thrilling to play predator and prey, to see how fast his lover can go, and the sweet sensation of catching him, making love on the ground, knowing how fully he possesses him.
-
Rest
"Sleep. I'm here. I'll stay here. You can't hurt me."
Malcolm eventually learns to trust that promise. Sometimes he gets 5 hours a night.
-
Break
It hurts it hurts it hurts!!
Nothing has ever hurt more than his heart at this moment. To see his lover, the man he trusted his whole self to, whispering sweet nothings into some woman's ear. Taking her back to their home.
He knew he would never be enough. But he didn't realize how painful that could be.
-
Check
They argue over who pays for dinner more than most couples. But when you're both that rich, and that dependent on being a caregiver, that's only natural.
-
Song
He may not understand the words, but Martin knows the grief. He wonders what died, and has no idea it's Esmer's heart.
-
Night
It takes all night, but he has his Esmer back. His beautiful boy won't ever have to feel insecure again.

Ghost
Clint x reader
8 - "isn't this view beautiful? It takes my breath away, well it would if I had any"
18 - "we're dead I don't think we have very much to worry about anymore"
This is for @the--sad--hatter hatterween writing party! :)
Warnings: mini anxiety attack, ghosts, bodies, references to death also mention of throwing up, none of its graphic though
Just a routine mission they said.
You and Clint approached the old warehouse where an arms deal was meant to be going down.
You'll be in and out before you know it.
You made your way through the back entrance and hid behind some conveniently placed boxes whilst listening to the trade go down.
It wont take that long you guys are pros.
Suddenly one of the so called 'pros' sneezed loudly causing an echo throughout the building and the gang of thugs to turn to where you were hiding.
You were going to murder Clint.
Suddenly there was a loud bang as the boxes you were both hiding behind were blown away, before you could even grab your gun you were out like a light.
You woke up to an empty warehouse with Clint standing by the broken window, he looked almost translucent in the morning sunlight, you must have been out all night.
But something didnt add up, the bad guys were gone and for what you could see you were both perfectly fine, not a scratch on either of you.
"Isn't the view beautiful, it takes my breath away, well it would if I had any" Clint joked as he turned to you.
The ware house was on top of a hill over looking the ocean and you had to admit if it wasnt being used as a gang meetup it would be very nice to live here and-
"What did you just say?"
"And they call me the deaf one! Views nice"
"No I mean about the breath bit? If you had any?"
"Oh, you haven't noticed?" He nodded to the floor where you had woken up from behind you.
You turned around to see two bodies, but not just any bodies.
Yours and Clint's.
You found yourself gasping for air which was ironic as you were definitely dead and not only did you find out that ghosts exists but they can also have anxiety attacks.
Clint ran over to you, placing his hands on your arms to steady you.
"Hey its ok-"
"How?! How is this ok?! Were dead! In a warehouse! Nobody knows!..."
"Nick knows" he interjected.
"But how long will it take for him to get us?! To notice we're in trouble?! Are we stuck here forever?!"
"Well it's not so bad... come look at the view"
"I DONT WANT TO LOOK AT THE VIEW!"
"Hey just, quit stressing ok theres no point right now..."
You started to laugh manically.
"You're right, were dead now so I suppose we dont have very much to worry about anymore! We've got all the time in the world!" You stopped laughing and put your head against his shoulders as he held you in his arms, rubbing your shoulders to soothe you.
"I'll never even find out who won the Great British Bake Off" you murmured into his chest.
"Who cares it's all a scam anyway"
"You're only saying that because they wouldnt let you judge, or 'hang out and try free samples as a sign of unity between the uk and the avengers'"
"Yeah! Because the cake is a lie! They couldnt have me judge because I'd out them! And the second message was Fury's idea"
"Oh I'm sure" you narrowed you eyes and nodded your head along teasingly.
"Its true! He sent an email saying he would be busy all day with meeting so we shouldn't disturb him, I finished my paperwork and went up to his office to hand it to him only to find him screaming at the tv because one of the contestants added salt instead of sugar by mistake! He made me promise not to tell or he'd kill me but... he might be a little late for that..." you both started to laugh.
You found out that you could pretty much go wherever you wanted as ghosts, you didn't even get that tired.
You sat down under the trees in the park, for once your hayfever wasn't acting up so you could enjoy the ambiance for everything.
You just sat there cuddled with Clint, your head on his shoulders, watching the world around you.
If this was how you had to spend forever maybe it wouldn't be so bad.
Suddenly your vision shifted and you went really dizzy.
You woke up again in the med bay of the quinjet.
A strange man with a red cloak was peering over you.
"They're back" he managed to say to someone.
You couldn't tell who though as you leaned over and threw up all over him.
"Yeah, that's a common side effect, here have some water" the man stated handing you a glass.
The man was called Dr Strange and he explained about how a wizard had used a spell to shoot your souls out of your bodies, Strange had noticed your souls were wandering around town and contacted the avengers, who then found your bodies and a simple soul reversal spell put you back where you came from.
"So... we're not dead?" Clint spoke up looking slightly dazed from it all.
"You're very much alive" Strange replied.
"Thanks for getting us back and uh sorry for throwing up on you" you spoke up timidly.
"Its ok this happens more than you'd think" And with that he smiled at you both before leaving.
You smiled to yourself slightly.
"What?" Asked Clint bemused.
"You think I could get some time off if I threatened Fury that I'd tell everyone his little secret?"
"I think he'd kill you" Clint laughed.
"Well then I'd just haunt him" you laughed along with him.
Being a ghost was fine.
But feeling your heart beating? The heat in your face as you laughed along with Clint? The joy of everything.
Being a ghost was fine.
But being alive was so much better.
Masterlist
A/N: sorry that I havent posted in ages I've been abit ill and my minds kind of been everywhere, still is abit so sorry if this is messy lol

Affairs Of The Heart - Kim Jongdae
Tumblr media
Type : Oneshot // Angst // Smut
Word Count : 4181
Author Note : FINALLY!! I’ve been really struggling to write this week but your drabbles yesterday helped me finish this!! Thank you for being patient, I hope you enjoy lovelies!!💛
Tumblr media
It wasn’t a normal relationship. You couldn’t tell your friends, your family, anyone for that matter. He was your little secret and you were his. Just the way he liked it. When Kim Jongdae walked into your life that Thursday evening, you had no idea just how much your world was about to change.
---
Capture Coffee was your baby, your home, your very reason for living. For as long as you could remember you’d dreamed of taking over the business; growing up you’d watched your grandmother put her blood sweat and tears into this place and now, it was yours. You wanted to make her proud and be successful. Since her death a few years ago, you’ve spent every single day working to improve and make the café something she would be proud of. While there weren’t many new faces, the café saw its fair share of regulars each day that made the whole place feel like home to many in the neighbourhood. So, when you heard the door open around 5pm that Thursday, but not Mr Oh’s regular order, it took you by surprise. Coming face to face with one of the most beautiful men you had ever seen. That was 8 months ago.
Since that first meeting; where you’d made a complete fool out of yourself jumbling your words, avoiding eye contact and almost spilling hot coffee all over said beautiful stranger; he had become a regular.
To say Jongdae was intrigued by you would be a severe understatement. At first he had thought your nerves stemmed from recognising him and the business he works as part of the EXO mafia; but then you asked for his name and he saw the deep blush that was creeping its way up your neck, “want my phone number too?” he had joked, loving the way your eyes immediately snapped up to his, wide and embarrassed, the red of your neck spreading across your cheeks and burning your ears. Adorable.
“Just kidding doll, I’ll see you tomorrow” leaving with a wink and a smile.
He had made a point of coming to see you almost every day from then on; at 5 o’clock when you heard the door chime open, you knew that Kim Jongdae would be there, looking at you with that magical smile of his and glistening eyes, just waiting to tease you for the blush that never failed to paint your cheeks whenever you saw him. Somewhere along the way, all the teasing and shy glances had turned into something much more.
---
It wasn’t too long into the relationship that Jongdae had told you about his work. It was a shock and it scared you, but you loved him. Not even all the gangs in all the city could keep you from him. The love you shared was extraordinary, you’d never felt this way about anyone before, you’d never loved or been loved like this before.
Jongdae was completely besotted with you. Every spare moment he got was spent texting you, asking about your day, asking how you were feeling. His life as a part of a mafia made it difficult for the pair of you to meet often, but all the secrecy just made everything more exciting. He was your little secret.
---
“Hey Yeri, where’s the boss?” Jongdae greeted your co-worker, he leaned on the counter, peeking back into the kitchen to try and catch a glimpse of you. The
“She’s just round back bringing in a delivery, what can I you?” before Yeri could get an answer Jongdae was already moving around to the back door.
“I’ll give her a hand. Through here right?” Jongdae asked, feigning ignorance, like he’s never been back there before on his way up to your apartment that was just above.
“Uhhh yeah, I don’t know if you’re allowed back there…” Yeri tried to respond but Jongdae was already gone.
He opened the back door to see you talking with the delivery guy, who was shamelessly trying to flirt with you. Jongdae thought it was funny. This poor guy was pulling out all the stops trying to coax a giggle out of you, when you were giving no reaction, other than trying to end the conversation as quickly as possible. He thinks back to all those times at the beginning when he was in the same position, only he had made you blush and giggle and join in on his terrible jokes. Jongdae decides it’s time to save you so he calls out your name and takes the boxes of produce from the delivery guy, giving him a pointed look.
“Y/N, here let me help you carry these”
“Jongdae, um thank you, how did you get back here?” you ask, turning away from the now rather embarrassed delivery guy, more fixated on the fact Jongdae was here on a Wednesday, one of the few days he never made it in to see you.
“Yeri let me in, said you might need some help with a delivery,” he gives you his signature smile, and beckoning you to follow him back inside.
“Um, thanks for the delivery Taeil, see you next week.” You waved goodbye and swiftly followed Jongdae inside.
“What are you doing here?!” Basically jumping him the second he put the boxes he was carrying down in the storage room, you wrap your arms around his neck and lean in to kiss him. Jongdae laughs at your enthusiasm, kissing you back with just as much eagerness.
“I missed you,” he whispered against your lips, holding your body close as he leans behind you to shut the door, hiding the pair of you from everybody, “I wanted to see you”
He kisses you again, fingers playing with the hem of your t-shirt, teasing the warm skin that lies beneath. As things heat up, you tug at the hairs at his nape and pull his bottom lip between your teeth, enticing a low moan. Just as his hands had moved underneath your shirt to cup your breasts, there’s a loud knock from the door to the store room you both were hidden in.
“Y/N?” Yeri was calling out for you, “Did you lock yourself in? A huge rush of customers just came in I need help” pulling you out of the bubble that was Jongdae, you reluctantly step back from him and pull your clothes back into place.
“Uh, yeah I’ll be right out Yeri,” you shout back, hoping it’s enough to lead her away from the door so Jongdae could make his exit.
Jongdae leans in and places a soft kiss on your cheek, “I’ll see you tomorrow doll,” and then he was gone. Somewhat of an expert at leaving your place unnoticed.
“Did Mr Kim find you?” Yeri asks when you join her out at the storefront.
“Yeah he brought the deliveries in for me, but don’t send anyone else back there okay” you reprimanded with a teasing glint. You knew Yeri had picked up on the fondness between you and Jongdae, she’d just never brought it up. Maybe it was a professional thing, seeing as technically you were her boss, either way, it was better that things were left unsaid.
“What? I never sent him back there?” she defends, placing a hand over her chest in mock offense.
“You didn’t?”
“No! He asked where you were then ran back there before i could stop him!” Giggling at the thought and blushing slightly, you tell her it’s fine before you both continue to serve the plethora of customers surrounding the counter.
---
The next day you make sure to stay at the front of the café, just in case Jongdae came in. Luckily it was never very busy on Thursdays, so Yeri was making herself busy in the kitchen while you were in charge of service.
When you heard the familiar door chime at 5 o’clock, it was almost impossible to keep your excitement in. Jongdae stood before you, again with his beautiful smile, leaning against the counter.
“One latte please doll,” he ordered, giving you a playful look as you both knew what that order meant. Not too long ago the two of you had come up with a code of sorts, that meant you could plan your dates in public without raising too much unwanted attention. It was silly and a little juvenile but Jongdae had insisted that it was necessary to keep you safe from his world.
One latte that meant he would be showing up outside your door later that night to spend those dark hours rolling around between the sheets of your bed or maybe catching up on that one show you both love, cuddled up together on your couch. Needless to say lattes had become your favourite order.
“One latte coming up,” the smile that paints your face is breath taking Jongdae thinks. He loves that the thought of spending time with him makes you this happy.
While you’re turned away making his order, Jongdae looks around at the customers. As usual he can see Mrs Kim, an older lady who sits and reads for most of the day, sitting in her usual seat by the windows as well as the small group of students studying together in the corner; but today there’s someone else who catches his eye. Sitting in the back is a man decked out in black, jacket bulky clearly hiding a weapon or two, mask covering the lower part of his face as he watches you silently. Jongdae immediately stiffens, recognising the jacket as one of EXO’s newer enemies, and turns back to you with a colder expression then before.
“Here you go,” you say, beaming up at him as you hand over his drink, “enjoy your order.”
“Thank you for the latte,” Jongdae stresses the word as a subtle reminder that he’ll see you later, before leaving quickly without looking back.
Later that night the pair of you were curled up on the rug of your living room, watching The Great British Bake Off and criticizing Barbara’s fondant technique. The man from before long forgotten.
---
“Do we really need all these snacks Dae !?” you asked while giggling at the sight of Jongdae throwing another 4 packets of family sized popcorn into the cart. Tonight was the first time in a while he was able to stay over for the entire night with you, as well as most of the day tomorrow too, so of course he was going all out for you. You were sure he’d already got half the store in the tiny cart you were pushing around the aisles after him.
“Of course we do!” He gasped, adding a jumbo packet of chips to the collection, “we’re spending the next 24 hours lying in bed, watching trashy tv and having lots of sex, we need to be prepared.” He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively before his gave falls to something behind you.
“C’mon I think we’re done” he grabbed the other end of the cart, pulling you along with him to the checkout line.
“Are you sure? I mean we only have 20 cups of ramen here Dae, what if that’s not enough?” You joke, satisfied at the way he turns to you with puppy eyes and whines an adorable ‘yah’ at your teasing.
That night, the two of you stuffed your faces with chocolates and sweets, legs entwined together still naked from previous activities, only half paying attention to whatever was playing on the television.
---
Since that night, things between you and Jongdae had changed drastically. You can pinpoint it as the exact moment everything started going downhill; Jongdae knew it too; of course he did it was his fault.
He stopped coming to see you as much, no longer making his weekly trips to the café; nor was he sneaking into your apartment after hours. When he did show up, Jongdae was distant, refusing to touch you or even so much as look at you. He was rude to Yeri, rude to you - you just assumed it was work stress and that it would pass. But it didn’t.
Weeks went by and he was still acting the same way, you were starting to think that it was you, maybe you had done something wrong or upset him somehow? Your worries were all but confirmed when it got to your year anniversary and you were left standing outside a downtown restaurant for 2 hours, with no word from Jongdae.
Not until the next morning that is, when you wake up to a text that read ‘sorry, was busy with work.’ You felt sick. Was this really what it had come to? Yes, you understood that in Jongdae’s line of work things were often unpredictable and unreliable; you knew all that. But he had always made such an effort; always put so much work into keeping your relationship as normal as possible, regardless of his occupation.
You haven’t seen or heard from Jongdae in a few weeks, you’ve sent him messages asking if he was okay; if he needed anything etc - but they all went unread.
---
The café was particularly busy today, meaning both Yeri and yourself were working like mad, alternating who was manning the till and who was in charge of making orders. It was stressful enough; but with a large number of todays orders being lattes, you couldn’t help but feel sad. You missed him.
When 5 o’clock rolled around and the door chimed open, you almost jumped out of your skin when you saw Jongdae standing at the counter.
“I need to talk to you.” He says flatly, not even bothering to look you in the eye. You could feel the tension radiating off of him, he was still in the same mood he had been for weeks.
“Um, sure. We can go to the back,” you offered, figuring he wouldn’t want to talk about your business out in the open like this, not when he’d been so secretive over the entirety of your relationship.
You go to open the small gate that led behind the counter, but he stops you.
“No.” He raised his voice, looking at you now with sharp and cold eyes that sent shivers down your spine. “Here is fine.”
You tried to tell him that it was too busy, too loud, to talk out at the front like this, but he just dismissed you and continued his stare down.
“I don’t want to see you anymore.” You don’t move. Refusing to believe that those words had just left his mouth.
“Did… did I do something? Dae…”
“For fuck sake Y/N!” Jongdae had never raised his voice at you before, “can’t you just listen to me for fucking once!” Everyone went quiet. It felt like the whole world was standing there watching you get screamed at, and you couldn’t do anything about it, too frozen in shock.
“I...I don’t understand…” before you could try and ask for some sort of reason, Jongdae was already back shouting at you.
“This was nothing! We were nothing! You were a good fuck Y/N so I kept coming back, but that’s it. You’re just a disgusting waste of my time and I don’t want to see you again. Don’t text me, call me, anything!” His eyes bore into your soul as he threw his words around like they meant nothing, each word cutting you deeper than the last. You could feel the eyes of customers watching you both, there warm tears dripping down your cheeks but you couldn’t make yourself speak.
Jongdae walks closer to you till he’s standing but a breath away, forcing you to look down to avoid his stare, leaning in close to whisper, “Is that fucking clear.”
You nod weakly, still in a little bit of shock as you watch him step back and storm out.
Had it not been for Yeri quickly rushing to your side and yelling at everyone to mind their business, you probably would have collapsed right there. You didn’t understand. Was it really all a lie? Did he mean everything he had just said? How could you have been so stupid?
All you could do was cry into Yeri’s neck, too hurt to try and piece it all together now.
---
For the next few days you kept the café closed and instead opted for some well needed wallowing time. That meant staying in bed with nothing but leftover Ramen and a Criminal Minds collection. It wasn’t pretty, but you needed it.
After Jongdae’s outburst at you, you were left questioning the entire last year of your life with him. However with the wounds still so fresh, the only thing you could make sense of was Spencer Reid’s desperate need for a haircut.
Yeri came to check up you every day, bringing you sandwiches cut into bunny rabbits and to begging you to get up and shower.
“He is not worth this Y/N. C’mon, just wash your hair at least, it will make you feel so much better I promise,” While she meant well, there was only one thing that was even slightly making you feel better right now.
“Look at him Yeri! Why can’t I have a Derek Morgan? I thought Dae was my Derek Morgan, but turns out he was just a Mr Scratch! Messed with my head, then drove me crazy!” you cried out. Maybe you had watched enough for one day.
Little did you know, that across town Jongdae was in the exact same position.
He had walked straight home after leaving the café, changing into sweats and burying himself in bed indefinitely - only he was binging cake boss not Criminal Minds.
“Okay, what the fuck is wrong with you?” Junmyeon, the leader of EXO asked, storming into Jongdae’s room to find him face down in the sheets, muffling sobs into his pillow.
“Leave me Jun,” Jongdae wails from his duvet cocoon, “I don’t deserve friends, just leave me here to melt away!”
Sighing at the dramatics of it all, Junmyeon grabs one of Jongdae’s feet and pulls him off the bed onto the ground.
“You’re going to tell me what happened and you’re going to tell me now! We’re a man down out there Dae, why are you acting like a kicked puppy?” Junmyeon struggled to hold his leader persona at the sight in front of him; if it wasn’t so pitiful it would be funny; a disoriented Jongdae tangled up on the floor; hair a mess and lips trembling.
“I kicked a puppy…” he whispers, guilt evident.
“You what?” seeing that this was going to be a long story, Junmyeon sat down on the floor next to him and waited patiently.
“Y/N. She was a puppy, and I kicked her. I hurt her so badly Jun but I didn’t have a choice!” Jongdae’s eyes were glassy again as he tried to explain himself to his leader.
He told him all about you; your relationship; everything. He let it all out through tears and choked sobs while Junmyeon sat and listened intently.
“Jun, there were people following her. They were at her café, at the grocery store, in the park across the street. She was in too much danger.”
“So you broke her heart in front of everyone to keep her safe?” When Jongdae nods in confirmation, Jun reaches round to whack him on the back of the head. “What were you thinking!? We could have protected her you idiot! You said she knows about what we do and yet she still gave you the time of day! Do you know how rare that is?!” he scolded.
“Look, Dae, you love her. She clearly still loves you. Don’t just throw away something like that, not when you have all of EXO to back you up.”
Jongdae sat for a minute, letting the leaders’ words sink in. What had he done? He had to see you.
---
It’s raining. Yeri had managed to convince you to move to the couch so you could wash your sheets; so you were lying in the living room staring blankly at the tv. You’re not even sure what’s happening in this episode, but it’s a distraction.
There’s a knock on the café door downstairs but you ignore it. Can’t they see it’s closed? The knocking continued, getting louder and louder every time, with a groan you shuffle down to see who the hell had interrupted your FBI training.
What you saw was a soaking wet Jongdae, peering through the glass till he saw your approaching figure.
“Y/N! Open the door it’s pouring!” He yelled, voice muted out by the heavy rain.
“What do you want Jongdae? You said you didn’t want to see me again remember?” You yell back; there was no way you were going to give into him that easily.
“Please Y/N, let me in and I’ll explain everything I promise,” he pleaded, but you didn’t move.
“Go away Dae.” You turn around to go back upstairs, fully intending to ignore him and whatever he wanted to say, but Jongdae yells something else at you.
“I’m not leaving till you let me in. I’ll knock on this door all night. I’ll knock all week if that’s what it takes!”
He couldn’t be serious. While you were still in wallowing mode, you didn’t want him to risk getting sick, not when he already looked about as bad as you felt.
Taking a deep breath, you give in and unlock the door, letting Jongdae inside, but no further than past the door.
“Baby,” he starts, arms reaching out for you but you step back.
“What do you want Jongdae?” crossing your arms over your body as if you were physically protecting your heart, you refuse to make eye contact.
“I love you,” he confesses, slowly taking steps closer, “I messed up. I thought by leaving you I would be protecting you, but all I did was hurt you more.”
“What do you mean protecting me? Am I in danger?” The panic was building inside of you, the sudden realities of the life Jongdae lives and how you were included in that washing over you.
Jongdae shakes his head nervously as he watches your defences against him slowly come down enough for him to pull you into his embrace.
“There were people watching you; in the café, outside the café… I just…I thought if I made them believe I didn’t care about you then they’d leave you alone,” He was crying now, fingers idly playing with the hem of your t-shirt as he poured his heart out to you. Telling you everything Junmyeon had told him; about how EXO can protect you and how much he’s hated himself since he left you. “I tried to live without you Y/N but I can’t do it. I love you so much, I’m so fucking sorry, please forgive me baby, I’m so sorry Y/N.”
Reaching out to cup his face, you brush away his tears and lean in to place a gentle kiss on his lips.
“You idiot,” you whisper against his lips, a pitiful smile painting your own, “you could have told me, we’re in this together remember?”
“Please forgive me,” he whispers back, his hands moving under your shirt in search of the warmth of your skin.
“Of course I forgive you.”
In the next moments, Jongdae lifts you by your thighs to carry you up to your apartment. Lips locked and clothes pulled from each others bodies, it doesn’t take long before you’re both lying on your freshly changed bed sheets, touching and kissing each other like you’d been apart for years.
Jongdae uses one of his hands to spread your legs while his other hand works on removing his jeans; at the same time you’re slipping off your panties, keeping your lips latched onto his, refusing to be apart from him in any way again.
“God I’ve missed you,” you moan out when he slides his erection through your folds, collecting the wetness that was leaking.
“I can’t wait baby, is that okay? Are you ready?” Jongdae asks breathlessly, desperate to feel you around him again, wanting to be as close to you as possible.
“Dae if you don’t fuck me right now I swear to God!” With that he pushes in, slowly, making sure you feel every inch of him; before pulling out just as slow. Eventually the slow pace becomes too tedious so Jongdae speeds up, ramming into you fast, holding you by your hips hard enough to leave bruises; mouth continuing it’s assault down your neck.
It doesn’t take too long for the both of you to finish, holding onto each other desperately as you come down from your highs.
“Dae,” you call, “we’re in this together okay. Don’t push me away again, please.” your voice is small but he hears, reaching over to pull you into his side as he kisses your forehead and whispers,
“I promise. Together.”

What is in a Name?
Rating: T
Genre: Family Fluff/Light Angst
Word count: 6385
Summary: Simon and Baz's teen son, Ebb, is having problems. Simon helps him through it.
Read on AO3
AN: I've written lots of parent fics, but it's usually when the kids are young and/or it's focused on their fictional daughter Tasha. So I wanted to do a fic with teen kids and more focused on their fictional son Ebb.  I wrote most of this in like a 3am writing frenzy so sorry for spelling mistakes, I tried to get all of them. Also disclaimer: I'm not a parent, but I tried to do my best. My own amazing parents are super open about their parenting philosophy so I tried to base a lot of this on them. Hope you guys enjoy it :)

When the door slams hard enough to make the entire house rattle, I jump slightly. It’s just a natural reaction to loud noises, no matter how funny Baz thinks it is. I bend my head out of the kitchen just in time to get a glimpse of my son stomping past me.
“Hey, Ebb,” I say. “How was the skatepark?”
Ebb doesn’t answer, just grunts as he goes towards his room. Unfortunately that’s normal nowadays. I hear him stomp up the stairs and slam his bedroom door just as hard. I sigh and shake my head.
I thought Tasha’s teen years were tough, and they were, but Ebb’s are bad in a different way. He’s embarrassed by his cracking voice so he barely speaks, he spends most of his time in his room, and any emotions he has he seems to take out on his wall. There are dirty footprints to prove it. Baz grumbled about cutting off our son’s feet. I had to remind him that we’re not supposed to mutilate our children, no matter how much expensive paint they scuff.
As I’m chopping carrots for the stew, I hear another door opening, then the soft padding of Baz’s fuzzy socks. He wears them over his regular ones. Because of his naturally low body temperature, he still spends a good part of the summer in about three layers.
“Why is Ebb trying to break the house?” he asks bitingly, though he does sound curious too.
“I don’t know,” I sigh. “He doesn’t tell me anything anymore.”
Baz huffs and takes a seat on at the breakfast bar. “Me neither. It’s a miracle if he’ll say more than five words to me in a day.”
I chuckle, dumping carrots in the instant pot. “Lucky. I usually just get grunts.”
He sighs, shaking his head. “I wish he would just tell us why he’s upset. We’ve always told him he can talk to us.”
I shrug. “Well, we can tell him all we want but that doesn’t mean he’ll do it. You and I both know teenagers rarely do what they’re told.”
“Isn’t that the truth.” He leans over the counter. “At least Ebb and Tasha aren’t fighting super villains.”
“Or being a dick to their roommates who they’re in love with.”
He leans closer, a playful smile on his lips. A few silver strands of hair fall in his face. Baz was incredibly relieved when he first started going grey, but now the vain bastard thinks he looks old. I keep assuring him he looks distinguished.
“But it all worked out in the end, remember?”
I lean forward on my elbows. Our noses brush together. We may be in our forties but we still act like sappy teenagers in love sometimes. Old habits die hard. “That it did.”
Honestly, kissing over a counter isn’t the weirdest way of I've kissed Baz. Burning forest still takes the cake, thankfully. But it's still nice. Twenty seven years and two kids later and I haven't tired of kissing him. I don't think I ever will.
I'm so caught up in kissing my husband I guess I don't hear the front door close and footsteps approaching us.
“Gross,” a very familiar voice says. “You're going to get spit in our supper.”
We pull apart, and Baz sighs with a smile. “Hello to you too, Tasha.”
Tasha walks up to Baz hugs him around the shoulders, a big slightly shit eating grin  on her face. “Hi, Papa.”
“What, I don’t get a hug?” I ask with my own grin.
Tasha rolls her eyes. (Sometimes she’s so much like Penny it scares Baz, and me too a bit.) She strolls over, black curly ponytail bouncing, and squeezes me tight. I squeeze her back just as hard. “There, that better, Dad?”
“Very much.” I press a kiss to her forehead. “Hi, darling. How was work?”
“Boring,” she sighs. “One lady spent half an hour trying on different jeans and didn’t buy any of them.
“Rude,” I say as I start the instant pot.
“Retail is truly a trail of endurance,” Baz adds all philosophical. I snort.
“You’ve never worked retail.”
Baz glares. “Neither have you, Mr. Bag of Gold.”
“I was a barista at the college coffee shop though.”
“How good was that coffee?” Tasha asks with a little smirk. Baz snickers. She’s a lot like him too.
I glare at my snarky daughter. “Shouldn’t you being doing homework or something, little miss?”
Tasha glares right back. “First of all, I’m seventeen, I’m not little anymore. Second, it’s summer, so no homework.”
“Then go make some homework, I don’t know.”
She rolls her eyes. “Yeah, I’ll get right on that, Dad.” She starts walking away, bag slung over her shoulder. “First, I’m going to get changed. Call me down for supper?”
“We’ll use the Alexis thing,” I call to her as she goes up the stairs.
“Alexa,” Baz sighs.
I wave my hand dismissively. “Whatever. Amazon talky lady that lets you play morose violin music.”
He giggles, shaking his head. That’s still the most beautiful sound I’ve ever head. “Well, that’s at least accurate.” He looks down at our slightly scuffed instant pot. “How long on the stew?”
I look at the bright blue timer. “Um, forty five minutes.”
“Good.” He offer his hand like the proper gentleman he is. “Want to cuddle and watch Great British Bake Off?”
I grin and take his hand, the metal of his ring pressing into my skin. “Absolutely.”
And I let my husband lead me towards our couch. But just as we sit down, we hear a loud thumping from the room directly above us. Baz winces slightly. With his super hearing it’s probably way louder. He sighs, slumping against me.
“We never should’ve gotten Ebb that bluetooth speaker for Christmas,” he groans.
I shrug, rubbing my hand over his stomach. He still likes that a lot. “Too late now. Let’s just watch the telly.”
Baz curls around me like an affectionate cat. “Sounds good to me.”
I hum happily and pull him closer “Awesome.”
I turn on our next Bake Off episode. We get so involved in all the cake and pastry drama we barely hear Ebb’s extremely loud emo music. I hope he’s alright. He does this a lot, shutting himself in his room and being angsty. Usually it’s over simple stuff we can’t fix, so we’ve learned to just give him his space until he calms down. But still, he’s my kid. I’m always worried about him. So I hope he’s okay.
———————————————
“Alexis, announce supper is ready,” I say. The stupid black tube doesn’t respond. How are these things supposed to make life more convenient? It’s more useless than my magic used to be.
“Alexa,” Baz calls out from the dining room, “announce supper is ready.”
The black cylinder of frustration rings this time. I frown “Why does it only listen to you?”
“Because I call it by it’s proper name.”
I grumble as I bring in the last bowl. Stupid technology, worse than magic.
Oh Crowley, I sound so fucking old.
I hear Tasha jump down the stairs. (She’s been doing that since she was six.) She enters the dining room, dressed in her Watford Lacrosse sweater and grey trackies, curls piled up on top of her head in some sort of bun.
“Mm, smells good,” she says as she sits down. She immediately goes for her spoon.
“Manners, darling,” Baz scolds kindly. Tasha frowns and cross her arms. She keeps reminding us of how old she is, but she definitely still acts like my little girl sometimes.
“Ebb?” I call up the stairs. “You coming down for supper, love?”
Soon enough, we hear Ebb’s heavy thumps descending. He’s been thumping around a lot recently. Baz jokes that our son is turning into a numpty, and I’ve made him promise to never say that in front of him. Ebb doesn’t need any more issues from us. He stomps in, upper body almost totally hidden by an oversized black sweater. When he sits, I can see his deep scowl. Well, whatever is going on definitely hasn’t resolved. Maybe we’ll talk after supper if he wants.
I put Ebb’s stew bowl in front of him. He grunts in acknowledgement, which is pretty good nowadays. Before I sit down, I make sure to kiss the top of kids’ heads. I’ve done it every supper we’ve had together since they were born. Baz says it’s cheesy, but still thinks it’s sweet. I just want Tasha and Ebb to always know they’re loved, because I never felt that as a kid and I wish I had.
So I lean over and kiss Tasha’s head. She groans with a smile. I lean over to Ebb, but he shifts away, crossing his arms over his chest. I try to hide the way that stings. Well, when kids get older sometimes they don’t always like their dad kissing the top of their head. Tasha told me to stop embarrassing her with it when she was fifteen. She said it was okay again a few months later. Maybe that’ll happen with Ebb too. I don’t know. I hope so...
I sit down, and Baz gives me a sympathetic look from across the table. I smile back at him, trying to say, “I’m okay.” Which I am. Ebb is allowed to do what he wants with his body, that comes before my feelings.
“Let’s eat,” Baz says grandly.
We all unfold our napkins and put them in our laps. (Baz has finally taught me manners over the decades.) All of us eat in relative silence for awhile. I don’t mind, I want to enjoy the stew. Ebb is somehow able to eat while still scowling. Did he learn to do that from Baz or all on his own? Either way, it’s impressive, in a moody teenager way.
“How was work today, love?” Baz asks.
It takes me a second to realise he’s talking to me and not Tasha. I swallow my beef before speaking. “It was good. Lily is finally learning how to make crafts without eating the glue.”
Tasha’s brow furrows. “Do kids really try to eat glue?”
“Oh yeah, lots of glue. And crayons. And dirt. And those massive LEGO bricks. It’s my job to keep them from doing it.”
“Dad, remind me to never become a nursery teacher.”
I give her a “really?” look. She smirks and continues eating. How did I raise such a sarcastic daughter? I blame Baz. And Penny.
“How was your work today?” I ask Baz.
Baz shrugs. He’s picked up on a lot of my habits over the years. “It was alright. Filed some reports, did a few conference calls, had leftover pasta for lunch.”
“Working from home is going well then?” Tasha says between bites.
“Definitely. No more morning commutes on the tube is wonderful.”
I point my fork accusingly at him. “But it also means you don’t get outside enough. You’re going to get even paler, love.”
He waves dismissively with a small smile. “Not possible.”
“We’ll see,” I laugh. I look over at Ebb, who is still scowl eating. I should try to make him feel included. “How was your day, Ebb? Do any cool moves at the skatepark?”
“No,” Ebb grumbles. Well, that’s the first word he’s said to me all day. Baby steps.
“Oh, uh, well that’s a bummer. I bet you’ll do more next time.”
“How are you doing on the half pipe?” Baz asks. “You told me you were doing well last-”
Ebb slams his fork down so hard the table rattles. The crashing sound rings out through the room. Baz looks very taken aback, and slightly in pain. Loud noises up close don’t mix well with his vampire hearing. Tasha and I are just stunned with our backs perfectly straight. Ebb glares at both Baz and I with rageful fire in his eyes.
“Why the fuck did you name me after a bloody Christmas Carol character?!” he shouts.
The whole house is silent. Honestly, I’m too stunned to speak. Baz and Tasha seem to be in the same situation. Ebb glares at us for another few seconds before violently pushing his chair away and storming off. He stomps hard to his room, then slams the door even more forcefully than when he came home.
We stay in stunned silence for another few minutes. I gape at Baz, mouth opening and closing like a fish. His eyes are wider than saucer plates. Tasha is just looking at her food, pushing around hunks of carrots.
“Well,” Baz finally sighs, “that was something.”
“Understating that a bit, Papa,” Tasha says, eyes flicked up. I just nod, mouth still hanging up. I’m still processing stuff.
“Thank you for the commentary, Tasha.” His eyebrows get all scrunchy. “Hasn’t Ebb heard about Ebb Petty around school?”
Tasha shakes her head. “Probably not. I didn’t hear about her until you guys told me, then in class. And learning about The Battle of The Mage has been moved to fifth year magickal history. Headmaster decided it was too grim for the younger kids.”
Baz scoffs. “Well, she has a point. But I suppose Ebb will need at least part of that lesson early.” He looks back at me. “I think you should go talk to him, Simon.”
I shake my head out, finally breaking the shocked spell. “Uh, wait, why me? You’re better at this serious stuff.”
“Because I gave Tasha the talk on her namesake. Now it’s your turn.”
“Could we rock, paper, scissor to do it?” I say with a strained smile.
Tasha’s eyebrows shoot up. “Do you two seriously ‘rock, paper, scissor’ on parenting decisions?”
“No,” Baz says immediately. But when Tasha fixes him with an accusatory look (she’s very good at that), and he shifts uncomfortably. “Occasionally. Not on big things. Usually on who has to help you monsters with the dishes when we’re both tired.”
Tasha shakes her head and goes back to her food. I was only half kidding, really. Baz looks back at me. “Honestly, love, you’ll be better at explaining this. You’re the one who picked his name, and I think you’ll explain its significance the best.”
I chew on my lip, drumming my fingers on the table. I’m nervous. It’s not like I haven’t had hard talks with my kids before. But I still get nervous. I never had parents growing up (the Mage does not count even a bit), so I don’t have any blueprints for this. I've read books and learned from others to make up for it, but I’m always scared I’ll mess them up by accident. Baz assures me I’m not, that I'm a good dad, but that fear doesn’t go away. And from the look on his face, he knows I’m thinking about that again. We’ve gotten good at figuring each other out over the years.
Baz reaches across the table, holds my hand and squeezes. You’ll do great, he says with just his expression. I let out a breath and squeeze back. “Alright, be back in a bit.”
“Alright,” Baz says kindly. “The photo is still in the upstairs hall.”
“Okay.” I get up and start making my way down the hall. As I’m ascending the stairs. I hear Tasha say something.
“Papa, was I this bad when I was thirteen?”
“No,” Baz replies, “you were worse.”
The following snicker tells me Tasha has thrown something (probably her napkin) at Baz’s face. I stifle my loud snort. Ebb doesn’t need to think I’m laughing at him.
I walk down the upstairs hall. Ebb’s room is right at the end. Before I go in, I grab a particular photo on the wall. It’s not the original polaroid, since Fiona wanted to keep it. But it’s a good copy. I’m glad we have it. I like to look at it.
I get to Ebb’s door. It’s covered in KEEP OUT signs he printed off the internet. I knock firmly, but not too loud. “Ebb? Can I come in?”
“Go away!” he shouts. I know he’s trying to be forceful, but his voice cracks, which takes away a bit of the impact. Do not laugh, Simon, don’t you dare laugh. You’re supposed to be a good father, dammit.
“I know you want to be alone, but I really think we need to talk.”
There’s a short silence, only filed with the faint sound of creaking springs. Ebb must be rocking or shuffling on his bed.
“Are you gonna yell at me?” he asks. He sounds so small and nervous. It reminds me that no matter how moody or rude he is, he’s still my little boy, who cried because he couldn’t fit all his plush toys on his bed and he didn’t want any of them to feel left out. He’s not some monster, even if he was being a bit of a brat earlier.
“No, love,” I say kindly, “I’m not going to yell. I just want to talk.”
I wait through another short silence with mattress squeaking. “Okay,” he finally says.
I open the KEEP OUT door and enter Ebb’s room. He covered it in punk and metal band posters a few months ago. A lot of them are from Fiona. She’s very happy to “finally have someone in this family with good music taste.” (Sixty four years old and she’s still as punk as ever.) Ebb is sitting on his bed, back against the wall, oversized hoodie over his pulled up knees. The hood is up and the collar is pulled up to his freckled nose. He looks like a black blob. His curly dark hair is falling in his face. It reminds me of Baz when we were teenagers. He’s even got the same sort of haircut. Part of me wonders if he found an old picture of Baz and took it to the hairdresser.
I sit down on the end of the bed, giving Ebb space but not sitting too far away.
“Hi,” I say with a soft smile, showing him that I’m really not going to shout.
“Are you mad at me?” he asks. He’s trying to sound normal, but I hear the nervous twinge.
“No,” I sigh. “Honestly, I’m a bit disappointed, but I’m not mad. You know Papa doesn’t like loud noises, and I wish you would have talked with us calmly without making a scene.”
He burrows deeper into the hoodie, looking down at his knees. “Sorry.”
“Apology accepted.” I shift a bit closer. “You get to be a pissy teenager sometimes, it’s normal. God knows both me and Papa were.” That makes him smile a little. “But I’m the dad, so it’s my job to reign you in.”
He nods and emerges slightly from his sweater. “Okay.”
I grin, putting my hand on the bed near him. “Good, glad we’ve got that sorted. Now let’s talk about why you were upset.” Ebb frowns and goes back into his sweater. Parenting is two steps forward, one step back sometimes. “I’m guessing something happened with your name. Did someone make fun of it?”
Slowly, still beneath all that black fabric, Ebb looks up with his big brown eyes. I can’t see his mouth but I assume he’s pouting or frowning. “Yeah...”
My heart breaks a bit. I can’t help it. I know bad things will happen to him, it’s inevitable, but it still hurts me when my kid gets hurt. “Do you want to talk about it?”
“I-It wasn’t that bad, really.”
“Doesn’t matter how bad it was, love, you can talk about it.”
Ebb emerges more, his arms moving more into his lap so he can fiddle with his fingers.  “It was Dylan.”
“One of your Normal friends?”
“Yeah. He’s usually cool but he can be an arsehole sometimes.”
“Language, darling.”
He looks away. “Sorry, Dad.”
“It’s alright. So Dylan made from of your name?”
“Uh-huh. He asked me what ‘Ebb’ meant, and I said it was short for Ebenezer. Then he started laughing. I asked him why he was doing that, and he said he couldn’t believe my dads named me after the guy from Christmas Carol. I didn’t know what that was so I asked and he laughed at me more. Then he got everyone else to laugh with him. It was super embarrassing.”
I shift closer and put a hand on his knee. He doesn’t shove me off, so I keep it there. “I’m sorry, love, that sounds terrible. Kids can be really mean.”
Ebb blows air out his nose and nods. “Yeah, I’m starting to get that.” He shrugs slightly. “I don’t know. I just hated feeling stupid, y’know?”
I chuckle. It’s actually really good I’m doing this. Baz would do well, of course, he’s a great father, but this is definitely more my territory. “Yes, I really know that, darling. I completely understand. I felt stupid all the time as a kid.”
“Really?” he says with a surprising amount of shock. “But you’re so smart!”
“That’s very sweet, Ebb,” I say, still laughing a little. “But at your age, I didn’t think I was smart at all. I could barely speak properly, I needed Aunt Penny to tutor me in every class, and I was the worst mage ever.”
“I thought you were the Chosen One.”
“Yeah, but that was because of a prophecy and me exploding a lot. That didn’t mean I was any good at magic back then.”
He nods thoughtfully, similar to Baz when he’s reading. “Okay. That makes sense.”
“Glad to hear I make sense for once.” I move so I’m right pressed against his legs. “I really get why you were mad, Ebb. Dylan was being a jerk and that sucks. You’re allowed to be upset. Now I’m here to tell you something he doesn’t know.”
“Oh?”
I lean forward, a big grin on my face. “Dylan is a big dummy, because you’re not named after a Dickens character.”
Ebb’s eyes go wide, lips falling open. “Really?”
“Yes, really. I’m pretty sure I remember who I named you after.”
“Who was it then? Ebenezer isn’t a really common name...”
“No, it’s definitely not.” I motion at him with my hand. “C’mon, sit here. I’ve got something to show you.”
Ebb cautiously emerges from his hoodie cocoon, and sits next to me on the edge of the bed. He’s not pressed up against me but he’s very close. I flip over the picture frame. According to Fiona, she took this during summer break in a bar in Scotland. It makes sense. All three of them look properly sozzled in the photo.
“What’s this?” Ebb asks.
“Well, it’s a photo,” I say. Ebb knocks my shoulder.
“Oh for Merlin's sake,” he groans. “Just tell me, Dad.”
“Fine fine, if you insist. This is a photo from a very long time ago.” I point to seventeen year old Fiona’s smiling flushed face. “That right there is your Great Aunt Fiona when she was a teenager.”
“She doesn’t like us calling her Great Aunt. Says it makes her feel old.”
I snort, but it’s with kindness, I swear. “Yeah, that sounds like Fiona. But back to my point, that’s her when she went to Watford.” I move over to a familiar blonde man. The sight of his face doesn’t make my blood boil like it used to, but there’s a small ache. “That's her friend from school, Nicodemus Petty.”
Ebb’s face screws up. “Nicodemus? Really?”
“Yeah, and you thought your name was bad, kid.” He snorts and smiles. I feel like I’ve accomplished at least something. I bring my finger over to the last person. She’s grinning too, longish blonde hair falling in her face. Looking at her gives me a small ache too but in a different way. “And that, is Fiona’s other friend and Nicodemus’ twin sister, Ebeneza Petty. Everyone called her Ebb.”
I watch as Ebb’s eyes go incredibly wide. His fingers curl over the wooden picture frame. I let him take it from me. He holds it in his lap, staring at it. “That’s who I’m named after?”
“Mhm.”
“I’m named after a girl?”
“Yes, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Don’t let your Aunt Penny catch you talking like that.”
His mouth twists around with shame, so I think he gets it. He keeps staring at Ebb Senior’s face. “But, why did you name me after her?”
I knew that question was inevitable. I’ve been trying to figure out what to say in my head, but nothing really works perfectly. Oh well. Have to try my best.
“Well,” I sigh, “a lot of reasons. Biggest one was that Ebb was just a good person and I wanted to honour her. When I first met her, she was kind to me. She didn’t treat me like a Chosen One or a weird sort of Normal group home kid, she was just nice. I’d never had an adult simply be nice to me before her.”
“So, she was like your mum?”
I shake my head. “No, she wasn’t a mum. Ebb was just my friend, but she was a really good one. She listened to my problems and helped however she could, usually gave me advice and such. Sometimes she just let me hang out at her house. It gave me an escape from all the stuff I was going through. She let me just be a kid with her.” I sigh, mind going back to the memories of tea and little china goats. “I admired her a lot too, honestly. Ebb was super powerful like me, but she never let that define her. Y’know what she did for most of her life?”
“What?”
“Herded goats on the Watford grounds.”
Ebb starts giggling. “Seriously?”
“Yeah, seriously. She herded goats, lived in a little cottage on the field, made tea, and that was about it. But that’s all she wanted to do. Ebb never let anyone tell her what she had to be. She was incredibly strong that way.”
Ebb looks up at me, sadness in his eyes. “You’re talking about her in the past tense. Does that mean she’s dead? Like Grandma Natasha?”
I sigh, then nod slowly. My heart is aching a bit more. “Yeah, she passed away a long time ago, love.”
“How did she die? Was she just really old or sick or something?”
I wish, I almost say. But that feels a little too sarcastic right now. “Well, the whole story is a bit too long and sad for right now. I’ll tell you all of it one day. But essentially Ebb sacrificed herself. She saved your Auntie Agatha’s life and lost her own because of it.” I stare at younger Ebb’s smiling face in the picture. I feel a few tears well up and I push them away. “Ebb didn’t want to be a hero, and she never should’ve been put in that position, yet she was one in the end, i guess. Because she was too much of a good person to let someone get hurt.”
“Do you miss her?”
I look down at him with a small smile. “Sometimes. Not as much as I used to, but the sadness comes back every once in awhile. Just like Papa and Grandma Natasha.”
I don’t tell him that I’m honestly mostly angry. Ebb never wanted to be a hero, and the magickal world just wouldn’t leave her alone. She should still be here, taking care of her goats, living in her cottage, being nice to my kids the way she was nice to me. But she’s not. And that’s so horribly wrong.
“Dad? Are you alright?”
I look at Ebb, my Ebb, again. He looks concerned. No matter how pissy he is, he’s still very empathetic and kind. He’s a good kid. Maybe I’m actually doing a good job as a parent. Maybe the older Ebb would be proud of me. At the very least, she’d be very happy for me. All she ever wanted was for me to be happy, and I am. I put an arm around my Ebb’s shoulder, and he leans into me.
“Yeah,” I say quietly. “I’m good, love.” I look him in the eye to make sure he’s listening. “Now, I’m not telling you all this to guilt you about being embarrassed over your name. You don't have to like it any more or less now. And if you want to change it, that's totally cool. Your Papa and me want you to be happy, and if that means going by a different name, okay. We’ll always love you no matter what. I’m just telling you so you understand where Ebenezer came from and why we picked it. Also so you know,” I poke his nose, making his face pinch up, “that we would never, ever name you after a Dickens character.”
Ebb laughs loudly. It snorty and raucous. My heart soars. That’s a sound I haven’t heard in awhile. How I’ve missed it.
“Okay,” he giggles, “I believe you.”
“Good, glad that’s all cleared up.
He smiles softly, leaning his head on my shoulder. He’s getting taller every day. I keep whining about how big our kids are getting and Baz just rolls his eye and tells me to not be sad over the inevitable. Tosser. I know he’s going to be a mess when they move away.
“I think I’ll stick with Ebb for now,” he says half into my shirt.
I squeeze his shoulder and kiss his head. (Well, his hoodie.) “Okay. Whatever you want.”
Suddenly, he throws both arms around me, hugging me tight. I’m shocked for a second. It’s been awhile since he’s hugged me, let alone this hard. “I love you, Dad.”
Well, my heart has melted into my shoes. I’m reminded of what Malcolm told me after Tasha was born. He only started having actual conversations with me after her. Maybe he felt we finally had something in common. He told me that being a parent is frustrating and rage inducing at times, but there will always be moments that remind you why you wanted to be one in the first place. This is probably (definitely) one of those moments.
I hug Ebb back. “I love you too, darling. Always will, no matter what.”
We hug for a little while. I savour it, a small part of me wondering when this will happen again. I like hugging my son, sue me. Eventually, Ebb pulls back slightly. He wipes his eye and nose with his hand. I grab the tissue box and hand it to him. I may have unbreakable poor hygiene habits, but I can teach my kids better ones.
“Wanna go watch Doctor Who?” I ask as he blows his nose.
“Okay,” he replies. “Are there still ice cream bars in the freezer?”
I grin and stand up, offering my hand. “Yup. We should raid them.”
Ebb smiles and takes my hand. He holds on tight. So do I. I’ll let him hold on as long as he wants.
We go back downstairs. Tasha’s upbeat pop music is playing from the kitchen. I’m not surprised to see her spinning and dancing with a dish towel in one hand and wand in the other. Little fireworks burst from the tip in time with the song. Baz is leaning over the sink, just finishing up with the last pot. He’s pointedly not acknowledging the music, save for tapping his foot. He’s still pretentious as anything, especially when it comes to music. Our eyes meet. He mouths “okay?”, and I nod.
I feel Ebb let go of my hand and watch him walk over to Baz. He throws his arms around Baz and mumbles a “sorry, Papa” into his shirt. Baz smiles, hugging Ebb back and whispering what I can safely assume is him accepting the apology and saying he loves him. Both Baz and I say “I love you” as much as we can. He didn't hear it a lot growing up and I didn't hear it at all. We want to make sure our kids will never wonder if they're loved or not.
Ebb looks up at Baz, chin digging into his chest. "Dad said we could have ice cream bars while we watch Doctor Who."
Baz raises his eyebrow at me. I smile sheepishly. "Did he?"
"Uh-huh."
"I see. Well then, someone will have to go to the basement freezer."
Ebb frowns. "I got them last time. It's Tasha's turn."
"No!" Tasha shouts. "I did it last time!"
Baz looks to me. "Do you remember who did it last time?"
I shake my head. "No clue."
Tasha and Ebb look at each other. It seems like they're communicating via telepathy. Baz says it's a sibling thing, that I wouldn't get it because I'm an only child. I don't have to have a sibling to know it's fucking weird.
"On three?" Tasha says.
"Loser cleans the stove?" Ebb replies.
"Deal." She throws her cleaning rag on the counter. "One...three!"
Tasha dashes off. Ebb pushes off Baz and runs after her. "Hey no fair!"
We listen as they run through the house. I walk forward and Baz immediately pulls me to him. I relax instantly. He’s always a solid weight I can lean against when I'm tired. His arms are steel bands across my back. I sigh against his neck.
"It went well?" he whispers.
"Yeah," I say. "Some kid made fun of his name and made him feel dumb. I told him that the kid was a jerk, that I know how he felt, and he definitely wasn't named after the guy from Christmas Carol."
Baz chuckles, running his hand up and down my back. "We may be mad but we're not cruel."
"Exactly. I told him about Ebb so he knows where his name really comes from."
"Did you tell him the whole story?"
I shake my head. "No, just that Ebb was a really nice person I loved, who sacrificed herself to save Agatha. We'll have to tell him the whole story one day though, before he learns about it in class.”
“Yes, very true. Let’s hope Ebb will understand it as well as Tasha did.”
“He will. He’s smart, he’ll be able to handle it.”
“Agreed.” He slowly runs his fingers through my hair. It’s not as thick and curly as it used to be, but Baz still loves to do that. “You did a good job, love. A+ parenting.”
My grin spreads across my face. I’m not smug, more relieved than anything. It’s nice to hear that I’m not fucking up my son. And I know Baz wouldn’t outright lie to me to make me feel better. He really means it. I’m doing alright. I’m giving my kids good childhoods, far better than anything I ever had. That’s all I want.
“Tasha! I touched them first!” I hear Ebb shout, followed by jumping steps coming up from the basement. Tasha literally slides into the kitchen on her socks. She holds up the book of fudge bars in front of us.
“Got them, I win!” she says with the biggest shit eating grin.
“Cheater!” Ebb stands at the doorway with hands on his hips. I don’t say it, but now his hood has fallen off, and with his loose curly hair and tons of freckles (he’s got more than Tasha and me combined), he looks like a pissed off fairy. He’s so adorable. “I touched the box first but she grabbed it before I could!”
Baz and I give each other with a “are we supposed to resolve this?” expression.
“Well, we don’t know the rules of this race,” I say.
“Except that the loser has to clean the stove,” Baz interjects. “So compromise, you both clean the stove.”
“Papa!” they both whine.
I flick his ear. Baz flicks my side in retaliation. This is the closest to our old brawls we get nowadays.
“Let’s have ice cream and watch telly first,” I say, taking the box from Tasha. “Then we’ll figure out what to do with the stove.”
“Fine,” Ebb sighs. “Can I pick the episode?”
“As long as it’s not the library. That one gives you nightmares.”
He frowns, though it’s closer to a pout. “Does not.”
“Does too.”
I open the box and start doling out the last four ice cream bars. Tasha snatches hers with a chirpy “thank you!” and runs to the living room. She wants to grab her favourite spot on the couch. Baz takes one and kisses my cheek. Finally, I give one to Ebb.
“Thanks,” he says with a soft smile. I’m pretty sure he’s talking about more than just the ice cream. I put my arm around his shoulders. He doesn’t flinch away at all.
“You’re very welcome, Ebb. Always.”
He leans on me again, putting an arm around my waist. “Do you think the other Ebb would’ve like me?”
“Yes,” I say without hesitation. “She would’ve adored you.”
“Really?”
“Absolutely. You’re amazing and strong and unashamed to be yourself. How could she have not loved you?”
He blushes with embarrassment, but smiles all the same. “Okay. I think...I think I would've liked her too.”
I grin, then kiss his soft, curly head. He doesn't pull away. “C’mon, let’s watch some David Tennant.”
We walk into the living room. Tasha is already in favourite corner with her feet on the ottoman. Baz is on the other side with his arm over the back of the couch. I sit next to my husband of course, and he pulls me close, rubbing my shoulder slowly. Ebb sits between Tasha and I, leaning his back on my side and putting his legs over Tasha’s lap. She tries to push him off but all that skateboarding has made his legs strong. Eventually Tasha relents with a huff. Baz gets the Amazon lady to dim the lights and start the episode Ebb picks.
We watch the show in relative quiet. Tasha makes snarky comments every once awhile, and Ebb pokes her with his toe, telling her to shut up. Baz calls them both annoying chatterboxes, but with lots of love in his voice.
It’s perfect.

AN: Aw, what an adorable family. Tbh I just really the idea of Simon and Baz having kids. They would be good parents imo. And it's fun to explore in writing, cause I feel like both of them would have fears based off their own childhoods. I've done some stuff about that before and I like writing about it. Hope you all liked reading it. Until next time :D

The Ties That Bind

Thanks to all of you for reading. Hope you enjoy this chapter - there’s a member of the Fraser clan that Claire has not yet met - time to rectify that.
Thanks to @mo-nighean-rouge for the beta.
Chapter 14 : A New Addition
“The baby is real pretty, dressed up in its nice little clothes. It has black eyes and the dearest, tiny hands.”
“I must go and see it. I just love babies,” said Anne, smiling to herself over a thought too dear and sacred to put into words.
- L. M. Montgomery, Anne’s House of Dreams
Jamie entered his living room, precariously balancing two mugs of tea, a packet of chocolate Hobnobs and two Kit Kats.
“Jamie, really, more? Are you not stuffed after that dinner we’ve just eaten? Mrs. Crook certainly believes in hearty portions.”
Claire snuggled into the end of the sofa as Jamie deposited his goodies on the coffee table and joined her. He stretched out along the length of the sofa and rested his head in her lap. He checked his mobile then reached for the remote control and switched the television on.
“Alright, so, Bread week.” Jamie said joyfully, as the opening credits for The Great British Bake Off started.
“I don’t get it.” Claire responded. “For someone who is not culinarily gifted, you do like to watch a lot of cookery programmes.”
“Weel, I suppose ‘tis the end product I’m interested in. But ye watch them too, Sassenach, and ye’re no’ talented in that department either. But hush, now, Signature Challenge and it’s teacakes.”
They sat and watched the television in silence, broken only by the occasional unwrapping of a biscuit.
“Dear God!” Jamie exclaimed during the Technical Challenge. “This is the filthiest thing on tv! Can ye hear him talking about making this loaf? Going on about making yer balls tight and driving yer finger through? And now she’s goin’ fer it too, asking if he flours his finger or oils it! Food porn, that’s what this is!”
Jamie reached for his phone again, checked the screen and placed it back on the arm of the sofa.
“Why do you keep looking at your phone?”
“Weel, mebbe I’m mitherin’ unnecessarily, but I texted Jenny nigh on four hours ago and I’ve no’ heard back. That isna like her. I reckon she’s havin’ the bairn. ‘Twas due three days ago.”
“If that was the case, wouldn’t you be asked to look after Jamie?”
“Nah, Ian’s parents have come down tae stay and take care o’ him. I couldna do it, if I was at work.”
“Well there’s nothing you can do, just relax and you’ll find out soon enough.”
Jamie tried his best to relax and think about other things. That proved to be surprisingly easy as, with his head still in her lap, Claire slowly ran her fingers through Jamie’s ginger curls. He moaned in pleasure as her fingers pressed against his scalp, finding and releasing points of tension.
Jamie shifted his head and reached his hands up to Claire’s face, bringing her lips down to his.
“Jamie,” Claire pulled away slightly. “Do you not want to watch the end of Bake Off?”
“Nah,” Jamie’s eyes never left her face. “I ken how it ends. Someone wins star baker, someone else is going home and someone else has made a bread sculpture that looks like a cock. It’s always the same.”
“But ye, Sassenach,” Jamie continued as he began to unbutton her shirt. “Ye are never the same. So, switch off that television, go upstairs and get in ma bed.”
“And if I don’t?” Claire challenged, teasingly.
“Ye’re no’ that heavy. Now if ye willna walk, I shall pick ye up and throw ye over my shoulder. D’ye want me tae do that?”
Claire ran her hands up his arms and across his shoulders, feeling his muscles flex under his shirt.
“Ooh, yes. Yes please.”
******
The red digits on the clock radio by the side of the bed flashed 11:30. They hadn’t drawn the curtains earlier when Jamie carried Claire into his bedroom, so the room was gently lit from the street.
To Claire, this room was the very essence of Jamie. The clean, strong lines of the furniture, primarily functional, were softened by the many family photos dotted around. A set of dumbbells lay in the corner of the room ready for Jamie’s morning routine. And the smell was an intoxicating mix of fresh fabric softener and cedar and sandalwood from his favourite Chanel cologne, cut through with a scent that was uniquely Jamie.
Claire snuggled closer into Jamie’s chest and inhaled deeply. Frank had always preferred sharp, citrus scents and, fastidious almost to the point of obsession, there was never any other male aroma. Even straight after lovemaking, Frank would head to the bathroom and emerge freshly scrubbed and antiseptic. Claire preferred to lie and cuddle… yet another example of her inadequacies.
She stretched her aching limbs. There was a whole range of facets to her and Jamie’s lovemaking, from the slow and languid - their every move seemingly in slow motion, every individual touch appreciated and savoured - to the hot and heavy, their bodies coming together frantically in desperate need, a race to reach their peaks together. Tonight had been more of the latter, with their orgasms coming quickly and in pretty close synchronisation. And now she felt relaxed, satisfied and content.  She inhaled again, breathing in that particular eau de Jamie.
“Are ye sniffing me? Do I smell that bad? Should I go take a shower?”
Jamie lay on his back. Claire flung her leg across his abdomen, pinning him to the mattress.
“No, stay here a while, like this. You don’t smell bad, you just smell like you… and us… and sex.” Claire nibbled his earlobe.
Laughing, Jamie pulled her on top of him. “Well then, come here. Bite me some more.”
The ping of Jamie’s phone interrupted them. Claire rolled off as Jamie read the message.
“It’s from Ian. Jenny’s had the bairn. Born at 10:48 this evening,” he read to Claire. ”A little girl, Margaret Ellen, weight six pounds and five ounces. Normal delivery. Labour 5 hours. Everyone fine. Coming home tomorrow.”
Jamie sat up. “That’s great news. See, I knew something was amiss. Did I no’ tell ye? We can go and see her and the bairn tomorrow afternoon. Ye said ye’re no’ working.”
Claire followed suit and leant back against the headboard. “Really, tomorrow? You want me to invite myself round to your sister’s for the first time eighteen hours after she’s given birth?”
“Aye, weel, I’m goin’ round and I want ye tae come wi’ me. And like Ian said in the text, ‘twas a normal delivery and the labour was no’ too long, Jenny’ll be fine.”
“Be fine? And how many times have you given birth? I did a rotation in Obstetrics and let me tell you, there’s a reason it’s called labour. It’s bloody hard work, even with a normal delivery. Imagine trying to push a bowling ball out, while you’ve got food poisoning and you’re being kicked in the gonads every two minutes. No? Can’t imagine? Well that’s what I’ve heard it compared to.” Claire went into full doctor mode as Jamie’s face screwed up. “Not to mention any ripping or…”
“Enough, enough. I get it. How about a compromise? I text Ian in the morning and we’ll go round if he thinks Jenny feels up tae it?”
Claire nodded.
“Fine. Now, I believe ye were jes’ about tae bite me some more.” Jamie said as he pulled Claire down onto the pillows.
*************
Ian opened the front door, a small child clamped tightly to his leg. “Come in. Welcome and ye must be Claire. We’ve heard a awfa lot about ye. And ye ken this wee chap, don’t ye?” Ian lifted the little boy into his arms. “Jamie, look who’s come tae see ye. Remember the doctor that fixed yer arm? She’s come tae see ye with Uncle Jamie. Are ye goin’ tae say hello?”
Wee Jamie held out his arms toward his uncle. Jamie grabbed him and pulled him close.
“‘Lo.” He greeted Claire with a sweet smile and wiggled his hands. “Look. All better now.”
Claire took his hand. “That’s really good. Hello Ian, pleased to meet you.”
Jamie moved into the hallway. “Are they in there?” He nodded in the direction of the living room.
His nephew pulled Jamie’s face close to his. “Ye’ve come fer see me, Unca.”
“Aye, we have, lad. But I jes’ need tae say hello tae yer mam. Manners, remember.”
As they walked into the room, Ian whispered to Claire. “There’s been a wee bit of jealousy this morning. Jamie’s no’ too good at sharing his mam. I’ll jes’ go and put the kettle on, shall I?”
Annoyingly, Claire had to agree that Jamie was right. Considering she had given birth less than twenty-four hours before, Jenny looked remarkably well, not to say blooming, with only the slightest grimace on her face as she shifted position. The baby was asleep in a Moses basket next to her chair.
Jamie leant over to kiss his sister. “Jenny, this is Claire.”
As Claire was about to extend her hand to shake, Jenny reached up and pulled Claire to her, kissing her warmly on the cheek. “Och, I’m that glad tae meet ye. Sae nice to put a face tae yer name. Jamie’s been bletherin’ on about ye for weeks.” She paused for a second. “Ye ken I mean my brother, no’ Wee Jamie.”
“Nah, dinna be tellin’ her that. She’ll be thinkin’ I’m a softie. Now, let me see my niece.”
Jenny gently lifted the sleeping baby out of the basket. Wee Jamie reluctantly allowed their uncle to set him down. Jamie sat next to Jenny and cradled the new addition to the family.
Wee Jamie scowled at this latest indication of treachery and moved over to Claire.
“We have a present for you, Jamie.” Claire said, rummaging in her bag.
“Fer me, no fer Maggie.”
“Weel,” his uncle joined in the conversation. “We have a wee present fer yer sister too. ‘Tis only fair now, is it no’?”
Jamie nodded reluctantly as he unwrapped the box Claire had given him. “Oh, oh, Spideyman blast ‘n’ go bike. ‘Sno fer babies, though.”
Claire handed another present to Jenny. “It’s Marks and Spencer. So if you don’t like it, you can return it. I’ve got the receipt.”
Jenny lifted up the pink gingham top with matching pink leggings. “Oh, it’s beautiful. Thank ye. Ye have verra good taste and no’ jes’ in men!”
Claire watched Jamie with his niece. She knew that for such a large man, he could be remarkably gentle but nevertheless, she still thrilled as he lightly cupped Maggie’s head and traced his finger along her cheek then pressed his lips to the soft, dark down on the top of her head. A warm feeling engulfed her. This could be them in a few years’ time.
Without a word, Jamie looked across at Claire and passed the baby over.
Ian came in with a tray laden with mugs of tea and biscuits and began to pass them around. He set a mug to one side for Claire.
Claire instinctively lowered her face to the baby, breathing in that essence of newborn baby. She looked up to see Jenny watching her, before exchanging glances with her brother and smiling in approval.
******
After visiting for an hour or so, Jamie could see that Jenny was starting to tire, so they made their goodbyes and promised to return a few days later.
As they buckled their seat belts in the car, Jamie turned to Claire and, with far too studied a casual air, enquired, “Do ye think ye would like children? At some point, I mean, no’ right now obviously?”
“Yes, not at this moment, but I would like a couple of children. How about you?”
“Same as ye, I think. Mebbe in a couple o’ years and mebbe three or four. I do like to think about that, doing things as a family, campin’, walkin’, playin’ games.”
“So that’s what the future holds for you, then, is it?”
Jamie reached over and entwined his fingers with Claire’s. “I like tae think that’s what the future holds fer us.”

HoneyedHood Birthday Celebration
Tumblr media
So yesterday, May 12, was Brinkley’s ( @honeyedhood ) 19th birthday. And I told her I would write her a fic bc I wanted to and I suck bc i procrastinated and took so long to get it done bc i am a procrastinator. But I love Brinkley with my whole damn heart and she deserves the whole damn world and calum hood could be so lucky to love her and to be loved by her. Without further ado, here you have it and i am sorry for any typos or mistakes.
You groaned as your alarm went off from the nightstand on your side of the bed. Flipping onto your side, your hand fumbles its way to the silence button.
Slowly, you rolled up in to a sitting position, careful to not wake your sleeping boyfriend. After stretching out, you slide your feet into your favorite slippers that are lying on the side of your bed and pad over to the joint master bathroom where you turn the shower on to hot. You hop in and try to shower as quickly as possible as you had slept in a bit longer than usual.
After hopping out of the shower and drying off, you slip into your robe and head to the kitchen to make a pot of coffee.  You wait for it to finish brewing and make two pieces of toast before pouring two mugs of coffee to go with it. You carefully bring both ‘meals’ into the bedroom and set Calum’s on his night stand for when he wakes up. After munching on your toast, you decided to pull some music up to play softly while you do you get ready. Youngblood is what plays through the speakers as you apply makeup, softly brushing on some blush and a light coat of mascara. Being in a kitchen all day makes it pointless for you to do a full face of makeup as it normally will sweat off so you like to keep it light.
Calum slowly wakes up and chuckles at your music choice. You turn and smile at him when you hear his laugh.
“Morning, baby.” He calls gently as he reaches for his coffee cup. This has become your morning routine for when he is on tour. You normally sleep in pretty late since do you don’t go to work till around noon, Calum likes that. He like staying in bed with you all morning and cuddling. But when you work, you’ll wake up and make coffee and some light breakfast for the two of you and start to get ready until he slowly wakes himself up to the smell of coffee and whatever show or music you are listening to. Then you’ll talk quietly as he continues to wake up, or you’ll just do your thing in silence while he watches you.
You walk over and press a kiss to his lips to greet him but his arms quickly snake around your waist and pull you onto his lap.
“Bee, Do you have to go into work today?” Calum whines as he presses kisses to your forehead and cheeks. He had just gotten home from tour that past Saturday and while you’d spent all of Sunday together it didn’t seem to be enough. “Please stay home with me. I missed you.”
He pulls you back into a kiss and your hands find their way to his neck and run through his short, short hair. Before you get too attached to the kiss, you force yourself to pull away.
“I do.” You nod as you lean into him, sighing. His arms tighten around your body, trying to pull you close again.
“Please. I just need one more day with you before you go back to work.” He begs. He was lucky you’d been able to get yesterday off. “Brinkley.”
You climbed off his lap, moving back to your vanity to put your makeup away.
“Cal, I just don’t know how I would swing that to my boss.” You explain before turning to your closet to put on your day’s outfit for under your uniform.
“Just tell him your extremely good looking and talented boyfriend is home and you need the day off.” His voice keeps growing whinier. “Or that you’re sick. You’re in the food industry, they won’t want you to come in if you are sick. Please I’ll pamper you all day, we can watch Great British Bake Off and eat junk and do all the things we love.”
You can feel yourself starting to cave in so you just shake your head, at yourself more so than Calum for letting yourself be this weak to his demands. Calum seems to think this means no, you won’t be staying home but you just grab your phone and start dialing the number.
Even though you insist on being sick, your boss sees right through you asking how your boyfriend is. Luckily, he’s pretty sympathetic to your long distance situation and just chuckles telling you to have a good day and that he’ll see you the next day.
Calum cheers hearing you say that you’ll see your boss on Tuesday instead. You quickly change out of your clothes and back into some comfy sweats and one of Calum’s t-shirts.
“You fucking idiot! Everyone knows you need to whip the egg whites to a stiff peak before you mix in the other ingredients in. If you have no idea how to make a genoise sponge, how’d you even get on the show?” Calum yells at the tv as you laugh at him. “It’s not funny. She can’t make the most basic sponge that they require you to make every season on the show. How does she expect to ever get star baker, let alone win the show?”
He gets pretty worked up over the show and often gets mad at the contestants so it’s your job to calm him down but only after you laugh at him. Often times he will ask you to help him learn how to make whatever they are making on the show. But that doesn’t always turn out so well because he gets frustrated and realizes just how hard it really is, or he gets bored and throws food at you resulting in you kicking him out of the kitchen.
But today, you nixed baking and decided to just stay in bed. Your hands were wandering each other’s bodies, softly exploring what they already knew. His hands would give light squeezes on your hips and he’d place soft kisses to your hair. While your hands would trace patterns on his bare chest. Your legs were wrapped around each other and your head was resting on his shoulder.
As you lay there watching the show you decide you’re hungry and want to get a bowl of popcorn but Calum refuses to let you get up. He’s been like this all day, very whiny. He won’t let you leave the bed, or if you do he follows you, his arms wrapped around you from behind as he holds you while you walk to wherever you’re going in your house. You had to draw the line at him following you into the bathroom though.
Yesterday, the two of you had gone to brunch with some of your other friends and spent the day in town so it was nice to have today to just relax.
After grabbing your popcorn and a drink to go with it, you head back to the bedroom and plop down into the bed where duke had taken over Calum’s half of the bed. Calum doesn’t mind this though because it gives him more reason to cuddle with you. He quickly falls back into the position he was holding you before you got up.
“I love you.” You whisper quietly to him, the Great British Bake Off is now just background noise as the two of you softly talk to each other and admire one another.
“I love you, Brinkley.” He responds, filling your stomach with butterflies. The two of you are quiet for a moment. As you take a hold of his much larger hand in yours and fiddle with his fingers and his rings, his other hand gently plays with your short, dirty blond hair. “So much. I love you so damn much.”
The thing about your relationship was, you never needed to be loud about your feelings for each other. Because you were so comfortable with one another and understood each other so well. The softness and sweetness of every moment made it so much better, more personal and perfect for the two of you and your relationship.
He pressed another soft kiss to your forehead and looked at you for a few minutes, studying the way your eyes crinkled slightly as your smiled and how perfectly your hand fit in his.
“Marry me?” He whispers, all of a sudden.
“What?” It comes out of a your mouth before you can even fully comprehend what he’s asking, He’s looking in your eyes, intently and repeats himself, this time with more confidence.
“Marry me,” He says. “I’m serious. I had planned to take you out to dinner later this week when I’d had a chance to settle in more. But this is perfect for us. This is who we are and I can’t think of a better way to ask you to be my wife. I love you with everything in my being and I wouldn’t be who I am without you. You are the kindest, smartest and most caring woman I know and I never want anyone else to be by my side. So please, Marry Me?”
At this point he is smiling at you and a little out of breath but you are tearing up. You are so in love with this man so the only thing you can say is.
“I do. I will marry you. Yes.” You exclaim and he pulls you into you for a kiss and to hug you tight. “I love you.”

Damn, You’re Hot
Brendon x reader
I’m home sick and was feeling emotionally weak because, for the first time, no one was here to skip work and take care of me. So this is totally shameless emotional projection onto our boy B. Also, I don’t remember what interview it was but he said he loves watching Queer Eye and The Great British Bake-off so we have the same taste in TV 😍 Some sexual talk but I think that’s the only warning?
Word count: 2k (sorry)
-||-
“Babe,” you croak from the couch, peering up from under the blankets that are pulled up to your nose. Before you can even get the next part out, he’s at your side, pressing a hand to your forehead, eyes revealing his concern.
“What do you need, honey?” He moves his hand, frowning, and presses his lips to your skin instead. “Damn, you’re hot.” You wink up at him and he laughs, shaking his head. “Not what I meant, even though you always look great. You’re still feverish, baby. You gotta give up some of these blankets, they’re not helping your temperature come down.”
“Tea, please, and I’m not getting rid of any blankets. I don’t want to.” You pout and he sighs, smoothing a hand over your hair. You know he’s right; you know losing some of the blankets will help bring your body temperature down, but you feel so cold and the idea of losing even a stitch right now is awful.
“Is peppermint tea okay?” He’s not even going to fight you on the blanket thing right now; he knows you know he’s right. You nod feebly and he kisses your forehead again, out of affection this time and not to gauge your fever. “I’ll be right back,” he promises.
You close your eyes and try to relax; even sick, your mind is moving a mile a minute, making to-do lists and drafting emails to be sent as soon as he finally lets you have your phone. He comes back and passes you the insulated tumbler, your favorite hot pink silicone straw in place. As soon as his hands are free, he’s pulling his shirt off over his head and starting on his belt. “B, what are you doing?”
“You won’t give up any blankets, right?” You nod, stubborn even in your sickness. “And we need to bring your body temperature down, right?” He’s calm and rational, smiling at you as he kicks his jeans off. You nod again, watching him shed his clothes with interest. “So we’re gonna lose two blankets-“ and he’s swiping them off the couch and off of you despite your protests “-and add one me.” He slips in behind you and snuggles in, hands curving over your hips and pulling you back, flush against him.
“B, I’m all gross,” you whine, knowing that you’re covered in a light sheen of sweat from the excess blankets. He pulls you tighter and you admit to yourself that his presence is just as good, no - better, than the two blankets he’s removed. And he’s behind you so the heat is coming from both sides; this was a really good idea.
“Honey, you really think I care about a little sweat? All the things we’ve done together on this couch; they’ve had us both far ‘grosser’ than you are right now.” He kisses your neck and you relax into his arms, your back against his chest. “Good. Don’t fight it, baby. Just relax and try to sleep. You need to sleep.” His voice is soft and gentle, and he kisses your neck again. “Or drink your tea. Those are your choices,” he says with a smile.
“Tea,” you murmur and bring the straw to your lips. It’s perfect; the peppermint is cooling your throat in ways you didn’t know you needed. “God, that’s good. Thank you, baby.” He nods, quiet, just holding you. “Wait, Brendon, you shouldn’t be here like this, holding me like this. Won’t you get sick?”
“Y/n, you feeling better is the most important thing. You really think I’m gonna let you suffer alone when I can make you feel better by holding you? If I get sick in the process, so be it.” You sigh, knowing better than to protest, and thank him again. “Of course. I love you so much,” he whispers.
“I love you too,” you reply softly, setting the tumbler of tea aside and curling up in his arms. Before you’re even aware of it, with his warm lips on your head and the comforting heat of his arms around you, your eyes are slipping shut.
-||-
“Mmmmmmph.” You wake up with a soft moan, stretching your legs a little and yawning. He’s asleep behind you, arms still holding you close. and you blink a few times, then settle back in against him. God, he’s cute when he’s asleep. Sleep sounds good. You yawn once more and sleep comes swiftly back.
-||-
“That is really quite splendid. My god.” Your eyes drag open and he’s awake, watching The Great British Bake Off. On screen, Paul Hollywood takes a bite of the most beautiful cake you’ve ever seen and your mouth waters. You can’t have cake.
“Why are you torturing me?” You moan and it comes out so pathetically. He laughs lightly and pauses the episode. “That cake looks so good,” you sigh and he kisses the top of your head.
“I’m sorry for teasing you, baby. You can’t have cake, but I can get you some sherbet if you want it.” You shrug, disinterested, and he laughs again. “I know, nothing can replace cake once you’ve seen cake.”
“I’m basically useless until I get birthday cake,” you quip, quoting your mutual favorite show, Parks and Rec. He smiles, but frowns when your eyes close and shiver a little; he turns so you’re in between him and the back of the couch. “That’s better,” you sigh, pressing yourself fully against him. “...But you can’t see the television like this,” you point out as you press your face to his chest.
“I love you more than British baking shows,” he tells you, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you up a bit higher so your head nestles under his chin. “Do you need anything, baby?”
“No, I’m okay now.” But you shiver again and he pulls back to look at you, worried. “I do feel cold,” you admit, and he sighs, leaning a hand down to the ground. “Don’t give in Urie,” you tease, smiling weakly. “Don’t crack. Don’t let me have another blanket.”
“But you look so miserable,” he protests, and when he brings his hand up, your favorite silvery fleece blanket is in his hand. “I just want you to feel better, love.”
“Don’t give in,” you murmur again, and he lets the blanket drop. “Can we take a bath?”
He considers this, kissing your forehead. “It can’t get too hot,” he cautions, “but we can take a bath if that’s what you want.” You nod, and he stands up, taking you in his arms. “Alright then,” he declares, “bath time.”
-||-
“Mmmm,” you purr, stretching your legs out in the warm water so your back slides down his chest. He moans a little behind you, and tightens his arms around your waist. You wiggle back against him to rest your head on his shoulder and he tries to stifle his sigh when you brush over his erection. “You’re not gonna let me do anything about that, are you?” Your voice is soft and he nips at your neck.
“Nope.” He grins against your skin and nuzzles your shoulder. “Can’t get you too...excited. Gotta keep you relaxed, baby.”
“You know,” you whisper, turning to lay against him on your stomach and looking up at him, “I feel really relaxed when we have sex.”
“Yeah, after,” he teases, kissing your forehead. “During though, I don’t think ‘relaxed’ is the word I’d use for either of us.” You pout and he smiles, leaning down to kiss you softly.
“B, no, you’ll get sick,” you protest and he shrugs, lips finding yours.
“All I’m hearing is more time with you on the couch, in bed, or in the bath.” You frown but let him kiss you. “We can have a sick day together,” he enthuses and you shake your head, giggling. “Movies and soup and tea and cuddling and baths and naps…you know it sounds good,” he murmurs against your lips, and you try to keep your mouth shut before pulling back.
“But who will bring us said soup and tea? And will we just crawl weakly to the bath on our hands and knees?”
He groans, pulling back too. “Don’t make me think about you crawling anywhere, all I can see is you crawling up the bed after you’ve blown me, and don’t make me think about you on your hands and knees,” he warns with a smile. “But you’ve convinced me. I will stay healthy for your sake, if only to bring you soup and tea and carry you from place to place.”
“That’s all I’ve ever wanted,” you laugh, turning back over to rest against him and he pulls you close. “Water’s getting cold,” you whisper after a moment and he stretches out a foot to turn the water back on and flip it over to the warmer side. “What happened to ‘it can't get too hot’?” You grin and take his hand in yours under the water.
“I’m weak for you,” he murmurs, squeezing your hand. “Anything you want, anything you need, you got it. You want warmer water? Done.”
“Are you quoting Roy Orbison right now?” You laugh a little and he squeezes your hand again.
“Unintentionally, but yes, I suppose so. Now, what else do you want, baby?” You bite your lip, pretty sure he won’t give you what you really want. “Except sex,” he teases and you groan.
“Mind reader,” you accuse and he kisses the top of your head.
“Only because our minds are the same,” he whispers, taking your other hand in his and crossing both of your arms over your waist. “Trust me, I want it. All the things you’re thinking, I am too. But you’re sick, baby. I don’t want to put any stress on your body. And you know,” his tongue flicks against your ear, “what I’ll do to your body.”
“Fuck, Brendon, don’t tease a sick woman, it’s not nice.”
“You’re right. Let’s get out of the tub and I’ll show you how nice I can be.” His voice is smooth and you moan a little, letting him lift you from the water before wrapping you in an oversized towel and your bathrobe before carrying you to bed. “Now,” he says as you snuggle under the comforters and reach out a hand for him, “butter or jelly?”
“Ooooh, are we picking a safe word?” You grin and he laughs.
“No baby, on your toast.”
“What?” Your face falls and you cross your arms, pouting playfully as he walks away. “I thought you said you were going to show me how nice you could be.”
“I am; I’m bringing you toast, which will definitely get crumbs in the bed and will be a pain in the ass later. That’s pretty nice of me,” he teases you from the doorway. “And I’ll even bring you more tea.”
“Would rather have your head between my legs or your dick in my mouth, but I guess toast and tea is the best I’m going to get until my fever breaks, right?”
“Right.” He gives you a decisive nod and you groan, slumping back against the pillows.
“Jelly please. And I’m glad one of us can be strong,” you admit, meeting his eyes.
“It’s my job baby, to be strong for you. You do it all the time for me when you’re healthy; you let me be a total recluse and work on my music and you bring me food and make sure I’m drinking water and you drag me out into the sunlight and make me shower. You keep me a functioning human being; let me make you a healthy one.” His eyes are soft and you know he’s right.
“Ah, Urie, you know just what to say,” you say with a sigh, stripping the robe and towel off and snuggling down deeper.
“Sure do. And maybe, if you drink all of your tea and nap for a bit, I’ll give you what you really want...what we both really want.” He flicks his tongue at you playfully and you groan, closing your eyes. “Deal?”
“Deal.”

Brave Part 14
Pairing: LMM x Reader
Warnings: Mentions of death, quite a bit of crying, much fluff.
Notes: Way too autobiographical, forgive me for the therapy session.
Words: 2435
You pull your knees up to your chest as the wooden slats of the bench creak underneath you. The wraparound porch only has a low rail around the edge, so you have a clear view to the simmering ocean ahead of you. The waves bustle softly onto the sand, the swoosh of their retreat hypnotic like a metronome.
You watch the glint of the moon off the water, examine the visible trails through the sand dune to your left, anything to try and empty your brain. You had fallen asleep sprawled across Lin’s body, content, satisfied. You had woken at 2am, traumatised and sweaty from a dream. A Dad dream.
You scold yourself that you should’ve known that being here would have you thinking of him. No trip to the ocean would be complete without a heart-wrench of grief. Burning bright as it did all those years ago, ever-changing and never changing. It shapeshifts, it retreats, it hides in a corner-but it never truly leaves.
You close your eyes and rest your forehead on your knees as you listen to the ocean. It’s still freezing cold but the blankets you’re wrapped in make it bearable. It’s eerily quiet so there’s nothing to stop your brain wandering back to the dream, to Dad. As they always do, the memories flood in.
You still remember the sound of his voice. You worry sometimes that you’ll forget. He called you Petals, neither of you knew why. He always wore Old Spice. He swore there was nothing better than “a good rock and roll tune”.
You squeeze your knees in a self-hug and let out a shaky breath. The screen door creaks and makes you jump. Lin emerges, a hoodie over his pyjamas, rubbing his arms to fight the chill in the air. “Hey, you.”, he begins hesitantly. You smile weakly at him. “Are you O...No, you’re not ok...”, he blurts and crosses the few steps to your bench to immediately wrap his arms around your huddled body. He instinctively holds you in such a way that your head comes to rest on his shoulder.
You allow yourself a tiny sob and once it’s out, more follow. Lin very gently rubs your back in slow circles, never shushing you or asking what’s wrong. You’re not sure how long it takes for your sobs to subside into sniffles but Lin never lets go, barely moving except to squeeze you gently every now and then. Eventually you straighten up, wiping at your eyes with your sleeve.
“Ooof, sorry.”, you say, embarrassed. “No, no it’s ok.”, he says as he takes your hand in both of his. “Do you want to tell me, mi cariña?”, he asks, eyes filled with worry. You nod and take a second to compose yourself a little.
“I had a dream. It...I had a dream about my Dad”., you say. Lin nods, waiting for you to go on. “Tomorrow...today, I guess...it’s a shitty anniversary.”, you breathe a long, wavering breath. “It’s the anniversary of you losing your Dad?”, he questions gently. You feel your face crumple as you nod. Lin strokes your back as the tears roll down your face.
When you quiet a little he squeezes your hand. “You could’ve told me”, he scolds gently. “I just...I thought I might be ok. I thought that maybe this year is the one where it gets easier, y’know?”, you say. Lin smiles sadly. “Mum and I, we used to spend the anniversary together, do something distracting. But as the years pass, she just wants to kind of go past it without much acknowledgement. It’s easier for her that way.”, you explain. “Ahh but not such a great coping mechanism for such a heart-on-their sleeve girl as you?”, Lin guesses. You give a short laugh at that-it’s not taken him long to have you all worked out.
You turn to fold your legs over Lin’s so you can huddle closer and share the blankets. “He would’ve loved you”, you say as you sniffle. Lin clasps a hand to his heart and looks choked up. “Really?”. “Yeah! I mean not at first, he’d have been like ‘Writer? That’s not a real job!’.”, you chuckle and lin breaks into a grin. “But when he met you, he’d have loved you.”, you say. “That’s...lovely”, Lin says sincerely. “I was his little girl, always-and his only child-so he valued people who took care of me”, you smile at him through new tears. “I will always try to do that.”, he promises. “You always do.”, you say.
“I wanna hear more, if you want to tell more?”, Lin offers. You nod as you wipe at your eyes again. “Pero, inside, yes?”, he says. You gather up your blankets and make a dash for the bedroom. Lin had pushed the bed against the wall before you slept as he was convinced one of you would fall out if it remained in the middle of the room. Now he piles up all the pillows at the top so you can lean back on them and pull the covers up high. Then he heads to the kitchen to make hot chocolate.
When he returns he places a giant mug in your hands and you relish the warmth. He asks some questions about your dad and listens to years of anecdotes. By the time you finish your drink you feel as if a little weight has lifted. Lin washes up the mugs as you go to the bathroom and you meet back at the side of the bed. You put your arms around his waist and pull him into a hug. “Thank you”, you say. “Of course, anytime”, he replies as he strokes your hair. “Come on, sleep now, love”, he says as he gets under the covers and holds out his arms so you can cuddle up to him.
You climb in next to Lin and bury yourself in his arms. “I know tomorrow will be hard.”, he says. “But I’ll do whatever I can to help it pass.”. You smile against his chest. “Thank you.”, you say as you feel yourself begin to drift off. “Love you.”, he whispers.
—————————————————
When you wake, you instinctively know it’s late because the winter sun is forcing through the curtain tops. You rub your eyes and fumble around for your phone. Almost 11. You pad through to the bathroom, brush your teeth and jump in the shower, feeling weary despite the lie-in.
When you’re dressed, you walk through the house, looking for Lin. It’s quiet and you half expect to find him with his nose in a book. Instead there’s a note on the counter “Back soon, make coffee!”, with a smiley face. Lin’s notebooks are scattered across the dining table, along with a discarded coffee cup, indicating that he’s definitely been writing. You make fresh coffee and stare out at the sea from the warmth of the living room.
Within a few minutes you hear the lock turn and Lin carries a bag of groceries into the kitchen, dumping them on the counter to come over and kiss you. “Good morning, love”, he says and gives you an awkward hug as he tries to avoid spilling your coffee. “Good morning”, you smile. “What did you get?”.
Lin leads you over to the kitchen. “Well, look, I didn’t know what you’d want to do today but I figured a treat might be the way forward, and I knew just the thing”, he says mysteriously. “What’s that?”, you wonder aloud. Lin doesn’t answer but grins at you and then starts to pull things out of the bag. Butter. Molasses. Flour. Brown sugar. Ginger.
Ginger.
You feel a lump in your throat. “You bought the ingredients for gingerbread?”, you ask. Lin grins and nods. “Is that Ok?”, he asks, faltering. “Yes of course, but I...how did you know?”. Lin unpacks the rest of the groceries as he says “Every Sunday, just the two of you. You’d bake gingerbread-he’d make you grease the tins and you hated it, but you loved baking together”.
You clap a hand to your mouth, as if to catch the emotion that was threatening to pour out of you. Lin finishes unpacking and turns to you, his face dropping when he sees your expression. “What?”, he asks. You fold your arms across your chest. “You remembered that? When did I even tell you that?”, you ask. “Ummmm...when you were fitting me for Alexander’s glasses. We talked about the bakery on 42nd and you told me their gingerbread had nothing on your Dad’s”, he answers. “We weren’t even together then, that was months ago.”, you say, overwhelmed that he remembered. “Nah, but I was really into you, and it was wonderful to have you share such a sweet remembrance with me. So, I remembered it.”, he says and gives your shoulder a squeeze. You struggle to keep your composure as you tell him “This is...exactly what I want to do today. Thank you.”. He beams at you.
“So!”, he rubs his hands together gleefully “Shall I grease the tins?”. You laugh and start to look through the cupboards for baking equipment. You find two loaf tins and hold them up for Lin to see. Then a thought strikes you “Wait, Lin...I doubt I can remember all the quantities”, you say regretfully. “Ahhhh, but I have the recipe!”, he says triumphantly. “How?!”, you gasp. He holds up his phone. “I asked the people in my phone!”, he jokes. Later you see his tweets:
@lin_manuel British followers! Help a fellow out! Apparently in the 80s there was this recipe book that came with your flour or something?
@nerdingalways That would be the Bero book, good sir. Grandma’s favourite.
@lin_manuel The Bero book! Ok next question: who has one and can tell me the gingerbread recipe?
@waitfritwait Hold on and I’ll send you a screenshot.
@lin_manuel @waitfritwait You TREASURE.
And so, half an hour later you’re both staring at the oven, willing the two cakes to hurry up and be done. You’d insisted on two because Dad always made two, knowing that half of one would be eaten while it was still warm from the oven. Lin sets out to find the thermostat, to try and avoid having a fire stoked all day. You check your phone for the first time and see a message from your uncle and one from a friend back home, both promising to raise a glass to your Dad later. You send short replies, your heart not up to much more. You haven’t told Jas, and she didn’t know you this time last year so she’s none the wiser.
Lin comes back, mission accomplished, and checks the timer to see how long the cake has left to bake. “9 minutes left.” he says. He comes to stand in front of you, offering a hug. You place your phone on the counter, then fall gratefully into his arms. You rest your head on his shoulder as he smooths you hair and asks how you’re doing. “I’m...ok. It’s all a little easier to handle sober, in daylight.”, you tell him. You pull back to hold him at arm’s length. “You were writing this morning.”, you prompt. “Yeah just some scribblings, dunno what they are yet”, he shrugs. “You need to work on it some more? I feel like I’ve hijacked this whole day with my wallowing”.
“Hey! Stop that, firstly-you’re not hijacking, I want to be here and I want to be doing whatever it is that you need. Second-you’re not wallowing, it’s ok to be grieving, y’know.”, Lin says patiently. “I know.”. PING. The oven timer interrupts and you carefully remove the two loaves, pressing the tops to confirm they’re done.
“Is it ok out? Could we go for a walk while these cool?”, you ask him. “Sure, it’s ok if you’re wrapped up”, he answers.
——————————————————
You walk for an hour, until your feet are too cold to go on and your cheeks are reddened and stinging. You return to the house and set the tea kettle on the hob. And then it’s time to unveil the gingerbread. You tease the first cake from its pan and cut a couple of slices. Lin reaches out to take one but you stop him and head over to the fridge. When you come back with butter Lin eyes you quizzically. You laugh as you tell him Dad always ate his with butter spread on. Lin tries it and declares it “weird but good”. You squirrel the rest away for later and collapse on the sofa.
Lin asks what you want to do next. “Ugh, nothing. My brain hurts from overthinking and under-sleeping.”, you answer. “I have an idea, if you like?” he says hesitantly. “Open Spotify, play me something your Dad loved?”. It’s a great idea, such a *Lin* idea. A sweet way for him to get to know your Dad a little.
You smile as you select the first song, Tougher Than The Rest by Springsteen. Lin smiles at you “Why this track?”. “Dunno. Money was scarce and so Dad didn’t buy a lot of records-he didn’t own any Springsteen albums but he bought this single over every other one. And not in a hipster ‘I only like his lesser-known stuff’ way either-he just liked what he liked and didn’t care what people thought.”, you explain.
Next came Dire Straits. “I remember Dad exclaiming to me that Knopfler could make a guitar *sing*. I was young, had never heard that expression before and just thought it was MAGICAL”.
You go through Queen, Neil Diamond, Don Williams, and end up in a Country wormhole of songs you remember from his VHS of stuff he taped from CMTV in the 90s. You sing loudly, you cry a little, you laugh a lot.
Eventually Lin asks if you want some dinner. You laugh as you realise all you’ve eaten all day is a slice of gingerbread.
As he starts to get up to go to the kitchen you grab his hand to stop him. Tears threaten to spill again as you say “Thank you for today. You’ve made a painful day infinitely more bearable. I should’ve known you would. You’re amazing. I love you.” “I love you too”, he returns and kisses you softly and at length. When he breaks the kiss, he squeezes you tight before he stands.
You yawn and stretch, causing Lin to suggest you nap while he cooks. “Have I mentioned that I love you?”, you joke. “Maybe once”, he chuckles as he kisses you again.
