There may be tons of rejections.

But giving up is never an option.

You might have been rejected so many times. By people—a publisher, a friend, or maybe a person you dearly love. But that doesn’t give you enough reasons to give up.

If people reject you, then let it be. You don’t need to please others. A publisher rejected your craft? Then improve so that the next time you submit your manuscript, they will surely accept it. Your friend or the person you dearly love left you? Then maybe it’s time to let that person go so that you can see the ones who truly care for you.

Life is so short that you should not dwell on something uncontrollable. Instead, focus on the one you know you can control.

10.31.2021 A Writer’s Diary

It’s a halloween night of all nights. I’ve broken through my writer’s block. As I was waiting to hand out candies, I got a text from a friend who snapped a pic of a book that I’d recommended to her: “Hood Feminism” by Mikki Kendall. I don’t even remember seeing this book physically myself. For many years I’ve only listened to books - in the car while driving, while working on my laptop, or on my iPad, as a way to lull me to sleep. It was the only way I could do it. My friend asked me why I loved this book. What stuck to me was this - If women experienced food insecurity, women often becomes the demographic that gets hit the worst. The tone was introspective of personal encounters yet pinned relevant research to solidify the message.

So ecstatic for my friend to be able to pick this book up.

I was on my 25th loot bag to hand out, got up to grab the nearest book, (A Writer’s Diary by Virginia Woolf) then spinned up this blog. Seems I’m right on track.

The Alhambra Project

This book has been incubating in my mind for far too long. I fell in love with the Alhambra way before I started living in Spain. For most of that time writing about it was just a distant dream. I didn't know much on the topic, except that I was mesmerized by the architecture. Now, more than a decade later, I finally feel secure enough to allow myself to think that I can actually write with some level of competence. I am still scared though. Like most topics that truly matter, the more you research it, the more you discover how ignorant you are. It’s nerve wrecking. But thanks to the experience of my earlier projects, I have learned how to deal with this type of insecurity. The initial paralysis can be demoralizing but just like giving birth, you have to keep pushing (so I’ve heard) and eventually the baby will come out. Then, just when you think your job is done, you’ll discover that squirting it out was the easy part. Now you have to feed it, raise it, teach it all kinds of stuff. The secret is to not get fixed on one particular aspect. Go with the flow. And yes, as cliche as it sounds, enjoy the process. The Alhambra is not an architectural complex. It’s a universe of science, history, art, religion. Projects like this never end. So what I’m going to do is to write an open book. That’s different than an unfinished book. Open books have a last page and when he reaches it, the reader is tempted to continue writing, using his own words and experience. And if I can inspire even one other person to go and visit that place, my job will be complete.

Finding Words: No Words

I’m finding the right words to describe how I feel about you. Finding words that cannot be described. Finding words that doesn’t exist. Finding words that no one can understand.

The pen can understand how incomparable the ink is but it cannot write anything on the paper. No one in the world can see how i’m feeling. All they know is that this feeling is relevant. Ceterus Paribus! The pen just want to write but no exact words can narrate what is going on inside. Just like the ink inside the pen, the pen serves as the fortress of the ink. Baby, i’m at my comfort zone trying to come out with exact words. “To write is very easy” that statement is definitely wrong for someone who is crazy about you.

Hey mister four-eyed! Mister Bespectacled! Yes this is all about you. We didn’t even talk. I didn’t even hear you call my name nor see you smiling at me. How pathetic isn’t it? This may sound ridiculous but each day it’s getting deeper and deeper. Everyone said that the more you hide your feelings the more it gets deeper. Ciao! =(
