Eddie Diaz x Reader
Warnings: mentions of injuries, Eddie can’t do math or cook for shit, friends to lovers :)))
Category: Fluff
Word Count: 2.1k
Author’s Note: takes place after Stuck (2x04) when abuela breaks her hip. Also, this was supposed to be for 911 readers week but I didn’t finish it in time sooooo just take it now instead :)
-----
The phone rang, your arm stretched over the pile of dishes on the counter. “Hello ?” you answered, putting it on speaker and setting it back down.
Eddie’s voice rang through the speaker, echoing through the empty apartment. “Hey, can you do me a huge favour ?”
“If you're gonna ask me to bake a cake, I have literally no time, honey. I’m really sorry but I need to finish this order-” Eddie sounds like he cut himself off before saying something as you explain that you’re busy.
“Eds? Are you there ?”
“Yeah- yeah, I'm here.”
“What’s up?”
“You’re busy, I don’t want to bother you.”
You can’t help but roll your eyes because no matter how busy you are, you always made time for Eddie. He sighs heavily, so much so that you can hear him thinking.
“Eddie, what is it ?”
“Can you pick Chris up from school ? I know you’re busy but if you can’t, that’s ok-” “of course I can pick him up!”
The sound of a breath being released before a feminine voice called out for him. “I gotta go, Abuela needs me but he’s off at 3. Thank you, y/n - really.”
“You don’t have to thank me, Eddie.”
He mumbles something before hanging up. You glance at the phone screen - 2:24. You had enough time to change and shove the dishes in the dishwasher before having to head out so you did just that.
You had picked up Christopher from school a million times. His teachers knew you well enough that Eddie no longer had to call and let them know he wouldn't be picking up Chris but that you would be.
Standing outside of the school, the PTA parents were gossiping within their little bubbles, talking about the other members behind their backs but smiling in their faces. You bit back a smile before walking towards the gate. The students were lined up by the door, waiting for the bell to ring.
The moment it does, the students come running out with their teacher a few feet behind them in an attempt to keep up with them. One by one, their teacher lets them out, Christopher finally spotting you and this teacher waves hello as they open the gate for him.
“Y/n! What are you doing here!?” his little face lights up with a smile.
“Your dad asked me to come get you, he's with abuela.”
The two of you start making your way back to the car when Christopher asks you what his plans for the afternoon were. Soon you realized that Eddie didn’t give you any explanation as to where to go or what to do after you picked up Chris.
“How does ice cream and then abuela’s sound ?”
“Can we take some for her and dad too?” Chris asks as you help him into the car.
“Of course we can.”
----
Christopher was lugging his backpack over his shoulder when you knocked on the door, two containers of ice cream in hand. Eddie opens the door, grinning at his son whose face matches his father’s.
“Hey kiddo” Eddie kneels, wrapping the boy in his arms. Christopher’s arms extend around his father, “hi dad, we bought ice cream” he points out the obvious.
Eddie glances up at you, the ice cream tucked under your arm - he flashes you a smile.
“Oh yeah?” he lets go of Chris. “Did you have any?”
“No,” he shakes his head, his hair flopping around as he snickers. Eddie pushes the hair from Christopher’s forehead. “So what’s this on your face?” swiping his finger on Chris’s chin, a little smudge of brown on his finger from the leftover ice cream.
“Paint.” Chris smiles at his father sweetly.
“Uh huh, paint.” he chuckles, stepping aside for Chris to come further into the house.
“Thanks for picking him up,” he leans on the door frame, stretching and his arms lift above his head as he does. You can’t help but glance down at the area of exposed skin - eyes glued to the man in front of you.
“Y/n?” Eddie’s waving his hands in front of you, eyes raising from their previous spot to his face - the blush was creeping up on your face whilst that stupid smug smile of his was on his.
“Would you like to come in?”
“Oh, I don’t want to intrude.”
“You won’t be.”
“Are you sure?”
“Positive.”
Stepping in, you take in the house. You had been by Isabel’s once or twice before but you had never come inside the house. The walls were painted a warm yellow colour, the furniture was spotless as was the rest of the house. Isabel sat on the couch with Chris beside her as he told her about his day at school.
“Chris, did you wash your hands?” Eddie calls, the door shutting. Chris doesn't answer which is an answer in itself. “Go now, please.” Eddie’s voice sounds closer, glancing behind you to see him beside you.
Chris grumbles but gets up, Isabel turns her attention to you and Eddie. “How are you feeling ?”
“As well as someone can with a broken hip” she gives you a smile.
“I’m glad you’re okay, you gave Eddie a scare” giving him a playful shove. “We got ice cream, vanilla and toffee. Chris said toffee was your favourite” handing her the small container. “It is, thank you. That’s so sweet of you.” she smiles, pulling the top off.
“No need to thank me, it was Christopher’s idea.”
“Ah, well I'll thank him when he comes back out.” she says smiling, “Eddie, a spoon please ?” she glances at the man beside you. He hums, stepping away for a moment to get her a spoon.
Chris comes running back in after washing his hands. “Dad! Can we stay over? Abuela said it was okay” he’s beside his father now, looking up at him with his big brown eyes that were practically begging him to let him.
You, Eddie and Isabel all knew that Christopher had his father wrapped around his finger and would ultimately get his way but Eddie had to give him a fatherly response and say no, they should go home. Isabel doesn't usually butt in but this time she did.
“Mijo, stay. I could use the company.” She says, patting the spot beside her and Chris makes his way over to sit beside her.
Eddie sighs, if he had a soft spot, it was for the two people on the couch. “Fine, just tonight then.”
Isabel smiles, satisfied with his answer. “y/n, stay for dinner darling. Eddie’s cooking” “Yea- who said I was cooking?” Eddie butts in, shocked at the assumption. “I did, mijo. Don’t worry, I'll tell you what to do.”
“Buddy, why don’t you finish up your homework so you can relax for the rest of the night ?” Eddie calls out to Chris, who again groans. He loved school but despised homework - as did most kids.
“I have math, I need help so I can’t do it because you’re busy.” Chris says plainly, thinking his statement will get him out of his math work because Eddie can’t do math for shit.
“I can help.”
“Y/n, you don't have to-” “no, it’s fine. C’mon kiddo” Chris grumbles, making his way to the dining room table, the two of you taking a seat when Eddie helps Isabel up and to the kitchen.
You can hear them talking and her telling Eddie to cut things a certain way or not to put too much of something into the pot. It only took 20 minutes for Christopher to finish his math homework, he brought it into the kitchen to show his dad.
“Look! I’m done! Math’s easy when you understand it.” that last bit was a little dig at Eddie and his math skills. You ruffled Chris’s hair as he walked back into the living room.
“Did he just-” Eddie watches his son make his way to the couch.
You hold back a laugh,“Mhm hm” Eddie shakes his head, chuckling. “Here, taste this.” he picks up some sauce from the pot, holding the spoon over his hand before handing it to Isabel.
Her face twists when she tastes it, “Eddie, I love you honey, but that’s terrible.” you press your lips together, holding back a chuckle.
“What?” he pouts, sighing. “I swear it tasted fine ten minutes ago.” sitting beside Isabel in defeat.
You pick up another spoon and taste some for yourself, your expression matching Isabel’s from moments ago. Eddie had remembered to put everything in, except the paprika and the salt, you add a bit of both and stir the pot. Taking the spoon from Eddie, you pick up a bit of the sauce and hand it back to Isabel.
“Ah, that’s better.” she hums, making you smile as she hands you back the spoon. Eddie sighs, letting you know that he was still there.
"Why don’t you go see if Christopher wants to watch something or if he wants a snack ?” his grandmother nudged him, a signal for him to leave the kitchen. “y/n can take over for you”
“Abuela, you can’t invite them in and have them work for their dinner.” he says, making her laugh.
“It’s okay Eds,” waving him off. “I don’t mind, really.”
Eddie left the kitchen and made his way over to the couch, listening as Chris told him about his day. He glanced back to see if everything was alright but he noticed that the two of you were laughing as you told Isabel something. Eddie would be lying if his heart didn’t skip a beat.
He stopped seeking his parents’ approval of who he dated- for a matter of fact, it went out the window when he brought Shannon home the first time but seeing you with an abuela made him so warm and happy, he couldn't help but smile.
---
Eddie’s hand slipped onto your hip, his chest against your back. “Can I help you, Eddie?” you mumble, your eyes on the dishes in front of you.
He hums, hands coming around and arms now wrapped around your waist. Eddie felt your wet hands pull his hands off of you, “Isabel and Chris are in the other room, stop it”
His head tilted, that innocent look on his face, “stop what?”
“Eddie,” turning to face him, “shh I don’t want to hear it” he cuts you off, hands back on your waist.
“I don’t think I've ever loved someone the way I love you.” His words come off so sweet and loving but hit you like a ton of bricks.
You loved Eddie, more than anything but you had never actually told him nor did you ever feel the need too. It was always implied that as friends, you loved and cared about each other.
Eddie always knew he loved you, there was never any question about that but something about you, seeing you with an abuela and how great you were with Christopher (as you always were) just pushed him over the edge.
He had to tell you.
“Y/n, you know I love you- and before you say anything, I know I’ve never actually said it to you but I didn’t feel like I had too, you knew I did.”
“I know.”
“Yeah.”
You were still gathering your thoughts, trying to come up with the words to tell him you loved him too but Eddie’s expression changed. His brows furrowed, eyes studying your face - the worry had set in.
What if you didn’t feel the same way ? God, he’d feel so stupid if he embarrassed himself like that.
The years of friendship were enough for you to realize how he was feeling. You were lacking words and you know what they say, actions speak louder than words.
Your hands reach for his face, now cupping his cheeks. Your lips meet his, he pulls you closer to him- if that's even possible. It was a few moments before you pulled away.
Eddie smiles lovingly at you and you’re sure you have the same expression plastered on your face. “Um- I think that says it.” you hum, smiling at him.
“Doesn't mean you can't say it,” he pokes fun at you, making you roll your eyes playfully.
“Eddie?”
“Y/n,”
“I love you.”

Hey I know you probably have like a billion requests already but maybe you could do something where the reader is good friends with corpse (maybe with some unspoken feelings) and they ask him to visit their country side home lmao-
I'm really embarrassed about asking this and I know it sounds strange but being out in the country side can be really good for mental health and I just want this boi to heal--
I'm so sorry hahah
Thanks
That’s not strange at all, darling!! I love this ask! I’m so sorry it took me so long to answer this, my mental health hasn’t been very good lately. I suppose I found this ask rather appropriate and I guess that’s why I liked writing it so much. Hope you enjoy!
Sunrise, Sunset - Oneshot
Pairings: Corpse Husband / Reader.
“Yo,” is the first thing you hear as you open your Discord. It’s not his regular greeting, and he sounds more tired than usual.
“What’s up?” you asked curiously. “Everything okay? Haven’t talked to you in a while.”
“I know, I’m sorry. I got really busy.”
“I can tell from your voice,” you chuckled. It had more of a rasp to it- if that was even possible.
“Yea, I can’t do too much for too long. I love that I’m able to work on music now, but it exhausts my voice so much that I can’t even stream sometimes.”
“Maybe you should take a break,” you comment.
“Probably. It’s almost done, so then I can stream more,” he replies.
“That’s not what I meant.”
“Hm?”
“I’m talking about an actual break, from everything.”
You hear him exhale deeply as if he’d already been considering it himself. “That does sound very nice.”
“I know, I always have the best ideas.”
“You do, except you forgot about the fact that I can’t really go anywhere. I mean, I’d love to take a break, but if I just sit here at home, I’m gonna either end up doing nothing or start working anyways. I don’t see me relaxing that way.”
“I didn’t forget about anything; I just hadn’t gotten to that part yet.”
“Oh?”
You’d be lying if you said that noise didn’t make you blush. “Remember how I said I live in the countryside? You know, it’s quite cosy here, and I have a guest bedroom to spare. If you want, but only if you’re comfortable with it, you could come over.”
It was quiet for a moment and your poor nerves were wondering if you’d said something completely wrong. You knew how he was about his privacy, but you’d figured that having known each other for a more than a few months now, you’d be at a point where you’d become actual friends, especially considering you always talked over Discord. At least, when he wasn’t busy.
“I... You wouldn’t mind?” he asked softly.
“Of course not!” You immediately replied, trying your best to make him feel as welcome as possible. “It’ll be so much fun! I was just worried you wouldn’t feel comfortable with it, otherwise, I would’ve invited you over a lot sooner.”
“Really?” he asked.
“Yes! I’m always looking for people to take care of my chickens.”
“You have chickens?” he sputtered.
“Sure do. And that was a joke, by the way.”
He didn’t really give you much time to prepare. He’d instantly asked if he could come over in two days, which meant you had to clean, do the groceries, and have another mental breakdown within that short time.
When he did arrive at your relatively small but homely cottage, you knew that even if you’d had more time, you still wouldn’t have felt like you’d prepared enough. You were incredibly nervous, especially as the cab slowed to a nerve-wracking speed until it finally stopped in front of your little wooden fence that really couldn’t keep anyone out of your garden because it was so ramshackle.
You nod your head to the driver politely, who got out of the car to unload a bag from the trunk. Then, the door opened, ringed fingers sliding across the yellow polish on the metal framing. He pulled himself up and out, finally allowing you to take a good look at his face.
His hair was dark and curly, as to be expected from what you’d seen in the pictures, though you could barely see it underneath the hood he’d pulled up. His dark brown eyes immediately found yours, and a shy smile graced his lips, which you bashfully returned with a small wave. It made you want to hit yourself multiple times. He paid the cabby and thanked him, allowing you to take a good look at his attire, at his frame, at his whole being. He was wearing a black hoodie with some chains around it, along with dark baggy trousers and, go figure, black sneakers. He was slightly slouching, probably so the driver wouldn’t be able to make out his face in its entirety, but overall he looked lean, even while his face was more pale and tired, with dark circles surrounding his eyes.
He locked the creaky wooden fence behind him, quickly closing the distance between you two with only a few strides. He dropped his backpack on the floor, saying, “hi.” “Hey,” you replied with that stupid smile still on your face and now quite possibly a hint of red dusting your cheeks. He just chuckled at the slight awkwardness of the situation, before wrapping his arms around you in a warm hug. He smelled like nice cologne, and he gave really good hugs. It said a lot that you could tell that from just the one. “Thanks for letting me come over,” he muttered, finally allowing himself to sound as exhausted as he looked.
“I told you, it’s nothing.”
When you met his eyes again as he pulled back, you knew he was quietly telling you that it meant more to him than that. Feeling shy under his dark gaze, you shook your head, saying, “Come on, let me show you around.”
It wasn’t that big of a tour, but it was home and it was comfortable, so you never felt embarrassed about it. You made enough money, to be fair, from your career through YouTube, but you’d never really had the heart to leave the house. At least you had a guest bedroom, and the garden was something to dream of. To trade that in for a bit more storage space would be such a pity.
“-and this is going to be your room, for however long you wish to stay,” you finish with a flourish of your hand. He set his suitcase down on the freshly made bed and nodded, glancing around for a bit before his eyes landed back on you. “Did I tell you how much I appreciate you doing this for me?”
You huff, “Once or twice now.”
“I’ll be off your back in a few days, don’t worry. I think I just needed to get out of my stuffy apartment for a bit.”
“Stay as long as you’d like,” you told him assuredly, “I know how stressful it can be and I haven’t even been through what you have. I can’t imagine what it must be like.”
He shrugs, “I have my ups and downs. It’s mostly my health issues and anxiety holding me back.”
“Well, I hope you can relax a bit here, then. People seem to feel more at ease without a bustling city around them,” you said.
He glanced out the window and nodded. “Yeah, I immediately noticed it as I got out of the car. It’s so... quiet here. And the air, of course. It’s so much nicer.”
“I usually take walks in the early mornings. You should come along sometime if you’d like. The sunrise is always really pretty when you get up on the hill.”
The corners of his lips quirked up. “I’d like that.”
“Great,” you replied, clapping your hands together, “I’ll let you get settled and start dinner. The uh- the bathroom is shared, I left a stack of towels on the rack so you can use those.”
“Thanks, I really appreciate it.”
You nodded shyly, silently closing the door behind you as you stepped into the hall. You let out a deep sigh and leaned back against the wall, pressing the backs of your hands against your cheek in a vain attempt to cool down the heat and tone down the redness. You couldn’t remember the last time you’d reacted this way but the times you’d spend talking about everything and nothing with Corpse through Discord calls that lasted until the early mornings. You knew you shouldn’t be feeling this way. You didn’t want to risk the friendship you had with him, but the tingling that had sprouted in your gut the moment he’d gotten out of that car told you that this was going to be hard.
 You knocked on his door quietly, afraid you were accidentally going to wake him when he didn’t want to be awoken. You didn’t know what kind of morning person he’d be, but he told you yesterday that he wanted to join you for your walk today. And while you were going to leave half an hour later than usual because it took you that long to work up the courage to knock on his door, meaning you were going to have to hurry a bit to catch the sun rising, you were still scared he was going to react grouchily. But when he opened the door, already dressed and ready to go, you realized you’d foolishly forgotten that this wasn’t just anyone, but that this was one of your friends; someone you already knew, even if it hadn’t been physically. Of course, he’d open the door with a smile, even though he looked more tired than the day before, which worried you.
“How did you sleep?” You made it evident in your tone that you were rather scared to ask the question, but it made him chuckle.
“I think you already know the answer to that. I don’t sleep well in general, so don’t worry. It has nothing to do with the bed or your hospitality.”
“Well, if there’s anything I can do for you, I don’t mind being woken up.”
He shook his head as he followed you downstairs and out the front door. “To be fair, I slept more than I usually would, but your rooster woke me up.”
You laughed, “Yea, I’m sorry, but I can’t do anything about that.” You held the wooden fence gate open for him, following him to the grass field until you were walking next to him. You silently picked up your pace a bit, worrying that you might miss the sunrise when you had promised it to him.
“I know, I know,” he replied amusedly, “Can we go see them later? The chickens?”
“Sure,” you smiled, “I also have a few ducks. You’ll love them, they’ll try to rip the shoelaces from your feet.”
“Sounds great.”
The walk to the hill wasn’t too far, but the hill was quite steep, which was always an exercise for people who walked with you for the first time, so you’d figured he’d start trailing behind you after some time. Thing is, he started trailing behind relatively earlier than you had expected him to.
Glancing back over your shoulder, you called out, “you good? We’re almost there.”
He nodded, though you could see him slightly panting, and you turned around to jog up the last bit until you reached the top. You could see a sliver of light start to peek over the horizon, making you glance back to see how far away he was.
But instead of having moved forward, he was now sort of slouched over, holding his stomach as he panted loudly. “Shit,” you cursed yourself as you sprinted back down until you skidded to a stop in front of him. “Are you okay? I’m so sorry, I should have slowed down-“
“It’s fine,” he waved you off, slowly catching his breath. “I can do it, I just take a bit longer.”
“I’ll carry you if I have to. I got us into this mess.”
He chuckled, but it sounded a bit hoarse.
“Come on,” you said. He furrowed his brow in confusion but followed you anyway. Walking along the side of the hill was tricky, but you made it around without any issues. He was able to keep up this time and gratefully plopped down on the grass beside you, just in time to watch the sun fully appear from behind the horizon.
“Holy shit,” he breathed.
“Yea, it never really gets old.” You laid down, feeling twigs of grass tickle the bareback of your neck.
He joined you, scooting a bit closer until your arms were brushing against each other. You couldn’t tell if he’d done it on purpose, so you acted like it hadn’t affected you, keeping your eyes fixed on the sky above you. At least, you tried. They flickered when you felt fingertips graze across your lower arm until they reached your palm, where his nails slowly dragged along your skin until his warm digits intertwined with yours. His rings felt cool against the heat and tingling you were suddenly feeling in your hand. He didn’t let go of you, not as you laid there for what seemed like hours, nor during the entire walk back.
‘Is this what friends do?’ you were silently asking yourself, watching the ducks try to free his shoes from its laces, ‘is this what friends do when they need support? Is this his way of coping, or is it-‘ You quickly shook the thought away. Of course, he wouldn’t think of you that way. He probably did stuff like this with all his friends. You knew how playful he could get, his guy friends included.
Yeah, it was just that. It had to be.
You were both laid back on the couch that night, stuffed to the brink with the famous lasagne you’d put together. The TV was on, but it sounded more like static noise in the background. “I think I can just fall asleep right here,” you hummed. The glass of red wine you’d shared – because neither of you could handle liquor – had created a pleasant buzz between the two of you.
“That seems a lot less comfortable than your bed.”
“You don’t know a thing about my bed,” you huffed indignantly.
It was quiet for a moment then, a sliver of tension seeping through the warmth of your home. “I think it’s probably about as comfortable as mine, otherwise you’re treating your guests too much,” he replied.
“I don’t know,” you admitted, “I’ve actually never slept in the guest bedroom. I might just be treating my guests too much and I’d never even know about it.”
He suddenly sat up and turned the TV off. “Come on,” he said and was already up the stairs by the time you’d made an attempt to move.
When finally reached the upstairs and were about to round the corner, you were suddenly picked up and slung over his shoulder, causing you to let out a loud shriek. “Corpse!” you laughed, “Please put me down!”
“You were taking too long,” he grumbled, dropping you down on the bed unceremoniously. He shuffled over until he was laying down next to you and lifted the covers up until it reached your neck.
“So?” he asked.
You had your eyes closed. “I might be treating my guests too much.”
He snorted. “Fucking knew it,” which made you laugh.
You laid there for quite a while, not really caring if either of you fell asleep with your regular clothes still on. “Hey Corpse?”
He hummed.
“I’m really glad you came. It gets lonely over here sometimes.”
He shifted, but because it was so dark you couldn’t really see what he was doing. Suddenly though, you felt him hovering over you, his elbows resting on either side of your face as his hand reached across to move a strand of hair to the side. He leaned down and hesitantly, his lips barely touched yours, a silent question if this was okay. You moved back against him, your hand finding his cheek in the darkness. His kisses were gentle, but passionate, which made your breaths heavier and deeper. When you pulled apart, you were both breathing heavily, mostly from the tension that had arisen.
“I really like you,” you admitted.
“Good,” he replied, wrapping his arms around you until you were tucked against his chest. You hit his arm playfully, “Cocky bastard.”
You hear the smirk in his voice as he said goodnight.

Oh god. No. Not here. Not now. Not with these people. Eddie can't breathe, but he can't let them know he can't breathe. He loosens his tie just a little bit - the one Ana went back for after Eddie was discharged from the hospital.  His nervous laughter is really a way to suck some oxygen back into his lungs, and when a heavy hand touches his elbow, and the smile on its owner’s face distorts. He's going to pass out if he doesn't move, doesn't flee from this spiraling, spinning disaster.
"Could you, uh, could you excuse me?" He asks and plasters on his best charming smile, hoping his voice isn't as high and squeaky as he thinks it is.
He catches Ana's eye from across the room as he moves through what feels like a sea of strangers. She's worried, but Eddie doesn't stop to explain anything and continues his way to the bathroom, where he locks himself inside and lets himself fall apart the way his body was begging to.
His fingers curl tight the porcelain of the sink, and he tries, tries to slow his breathing. Finally, he tells himself to stop it in the mirror, even smacks himself across the cheek, but nothing changes.
There's a soft knock on the door, and Ana's gentle voice comes through the cracks, "Eddie? Are you okay?"
"Fine," he grits out.
"Are you having another attack?"
"I said I'm fine!" his anger and frustration echo too loud against the tile of the bathroom. , get a grip, Diaz. "Can you just get Chris some cake? I'll be right out."
Ana's fading footsteps are the only answer he gets, and Eddie focuses back on himself. He tries to remember what the pamphlet from the hospital said, or rather, what Buck said it says the night he found it buried on Eddie's counter and read it to him, but his brain is just a white-hot sear of nothing. Eddie pulls out his phone and dials Buck - no time to look for his name in the phone book. He doesn't answer, and Eddie nearly throws the phone into the sink.
"Damn!"
But it's Sunday, and Buck said something about Taylor coming over on Sunday, so, of course, he isn't answering. Eddie thinks for a second, in desperation, he'll call Bobby, but then his phone vibrates, and he sees Buck's smile fill the screen. He rubs his thumb over it before swiping to answer.
"Buck?" He answers.
"Hey, you called?" Buck asks on the other end of the line, slightly fuzzy, but Eddie can hear the smile in his voice, and the vice around his heart loosens just a little bit.
"Buck?" He asks again as if he can't process anything else.
"Uh, yea. Are you okay?"
"No. Panic attack."
"But aren't you at that christening?"
"Yes."
"Shit."
"Buck, help.” He hates how desperate he must sound, but Buck’s already seen him at his most desperate, trying to hold onto his life and knowing, instinctively, that Buck would help him. He would save him.
Buck always saves him.
" What have you tried?" Buck asks.
"Not much. Nothing. I just, I called you.”
"That’s good. Where are you?"
"Bathroom."
"You need to focus on something besides the panic. So, find me four things you see, Eddie. Try to be specific."
"Okay,” Eddie looks around the bathroom. He sees a million times too many things, and it takes him a second to focus in on something, “Uh, a pink shower curtain,” like your pink sweater that you say is salmon, but Buck, it’s pink. “white rugs,” dazzling white like your teeth when you smile, and that patch of skin that sometimes peeks through under your waistband. “a bristly hairbrush,” god, you’re hair is always so perfect, “and, and curtains on the window. They’re sheer; pink too,” just like that sweater.
"Good,” Buck soothes, “now, three things you can smell."
"Umm, vanilla soap,” sometimes you smell like vanilla, and sugar - like an ice cream cone on a hot summer day, “cinnamon toothpaste,” like in your bathroom, crumpled up in the corner, “my cologne,” you bought me this bottle for Christmas.
"That’s good, Eddie. Two things you can hear."
"I hear people - outside the door."
"Not them,” Buck tells him, “Two other things. Ignore that sound."
"I hear - I hear crickets outside the open window, and I hear...you. Your voice in my ear, your breath,” I always hear you, even when I don’t want to.
"One thing you can touch," Buck says quietly, and Eddie takes a shaking breath, presses his hand over his chest.
"My heartbeat."
"Is it slower than before?"
"Yes."
"Good. Do you think you're okay?"
“Yea. I um, I’m probably just going to go home, sleep it off.”
“Good idea.”
“Thank you, Buck.”
“Of course.”
Eddie hangs up and slips his phone back into his pocket. He isn’t panicking anymore, but he doesn’t feel great. He splashes his face with water and tries to smooth down all the places he’s rumpled before he opens the bathroom door and finds Ana on the other side, Christopher sitting next to her on the floor with a plate of cake in his lap.
“Are you okay?” she asks, putting a hand to his cheek, and it burns where there was just cold air against the drying water.
Eddie nods, “I’m okay. But I think I’m probably gonna go. In case it happens again.”
“Let me get my purse.”
“No, you stay. It’s your family. Just tell them I got sick.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yea,” he leans down and kisses her cheek before helping Chris up.
Neither says much to the other in the car, but Eddie chuckles when Chris rips his suit jacket off the moment the door is closed. He sees the silhouette on the front steps against the fading sun before he gets the truck parked and shakes his head at the realization it’s Buck.
"What are you doing here?" he asks when Buck jogs up to him.
"I didn't want you to be alone when you got home,” Buck answers quietly and then turns his attention to Christopher once the back door is open, and he’s climbing out, “Hey, buddy, did you have a good time? You look pretty handsome in that suit."
Chris rolls his eyes, "that's what everyone kept telling me. But then they said I would have looked better if I cut my hair.
“Well, you know what? I like this long, floppy look,” Buck ruffles his hand through Chris’s hair. It had definitely gotten long, and maybe a little out of control, but he didn’t want to cut it, and Eddie only remembered being dragged to the barbershop every five weeks to have his hair clipped, no matter how much he begged to keep it just a little bit longer.
Chris smiles, “thanks, Buck.”
“Do you think you could give me a minute with your dad?” Buck asks when they all get inside the house. Eddie flips on the lamp by the door, and Christopher nods and leaves for his room, closing the door behind him.
“I’m fine, Buck,” Eddie says, walking further into the house, turning on lights as he goes.
“Okay, but do you wanna talk about what happened?”
“No.”
“Was it too many people?”
Eddie huffs out a laugh, “I’m half Mexican, Buck; I grew up going to huge parties, family and friends always over on the weekend. That wasn’t it.”
“What was it, then?”
“Why does it matter?” he doesn’t mean to sound as exasperated as he does, but sometimes Buck just brings it out of him.
“Because if you can figure out what’s triggering you, you can figure out how to control the panic better.”
“I don’t panic.”
“You didn’t, but now you are. So let’s try and figure out why.”
Eddie sighs, “can I have a beer while we do it, at least?”
“If I get one too.”
They go into the kitchen, and Eddie takes two beers from the fridge and cracks one open before handing it to Buck. He watches him take a long, slow sip. Eddie’s hands start to shake around the glass, and he forces himself to look away, down at the shine of his shoes to keep whatever is trying to rise pushed down.
“Was there like some kind of a loud noise?” Buck asks.
“No. It isn’t - loud noises have never bothered me.”
“Things have changed a little bit, though.”
“I don’t think they have anything to do with being shot. I know no one wants to believe me, but I’m fine about that.”
“Maybe no one wants to believe you because you were shot. That doesn’t happen to most people even once, and it’s happened to you twice.”
“I know, but I swear to you, I’m okay. I don’t think that’ what this about.”
“If you say so. Let’s recount the night then. What happened right before it started?”
“Ana’s great aunt, she - she said I was perfect for Ana -  a good addition to their family.”
Buck takes another swig from the bottle; his eyebrows are knitted in thought. If Chim or Hen were there, they’d make a joke about him not straining himself, and they’d only be kidding, but Eddie knows Buck has a lot of thoughts, a lot of good, deep ones, that maybe Eddie is the only one to have ever heard, “And didn’t you say the first time was after the salesman referred to Ana as Chris’s mom?”
“Yea,” Eddie says quietly.
“Do you think maybe you’re just having a hard time with how serious your relationship is getting?”
“It’s not getting that serious.”
“Eddie, she introduced you to like all her family, you went to an important family event, her great-aunt thinks your excellent husband material.”
Eddie’s breath catches in his throat, and he coughs, trying to force it out, but it sits there like a bubble trying to choke him, and the kitchen starts to spin, turquoise spiraling into stainless steel, spiraling into Buck.
“Stop, stop saying things like that,” he sputters out.
“You’re starting to panic again, aren’t you?” Buck asks.
“When the hell did it get so serious? I was just - I don’t know what I was doing. I liked her, but I didn’t mean-”
Eddie backs against the counter next to the sink, he tries to loosen his tie, but he can’t make his fingers work. Then Buck crosses the space between them and replaces Eddie’s hand with his own, pulling down on the knot and unbuttoning Eddie’s collar. “Breathe; breathe,” he whispers to him and puts his hands on Eddie’s shoulders, and he’s so close Eddie has no choice but to look at him. He feels his hand in Buck’s, slowly pressing against the other man’s chest.
“Breathe with it,” Buck says of his heartbeat, and Eddie closes his eyes. It takes a few moments, but soon his breath is in sync with Buck’s heartbeat, and he’s not sure he’s ever felt this kind of calm before.
“Okay?” Buck asks.
“No, but yes.”
“I’m gonna ask you something, and I need you to be honest - not for me, but for yourself.”
“O-okay.”
“Do you want Ana to be in your future? Your far future?”
“No,” he answers quickly, but it’s a question he’s asked himself before and was just too afraid to say out loud,  “but -”
“But what? Chris likes her?”
“Yes!” Eddie shouts.
“Maybe he does, maybe he even loves her a little, but he loves you more, and he wants you to be happy, and he knows you aren’t happy, and he probably knows it’s because of her.”
“He does?”
“Yes,” Buck takes Eddie’s hand away from his heart, but he doesn’t let go of it,  “your heart knows it too, and it’s screaming at you, Eddie, but you aren’t listening.”
“I wanted to be ready, to move on from Shannon, not just after she died, but long before that too.”
“I know.”
“Am I never going to be ready?” He can feel the wet of his eyes as he blinks up at Buck, vulnerable once again in front of him.
“I think you are, but not with Ana, and that’s okay. I mean, she’s the first person you seriously dated besides your wife, Eds. So it’s okay that she isn’t the right fit, and it’s okay if it takes you a little while longer to find who is.”
“Is Taylor your right fit?” Eddie blurts out, and it makes Buck let go of his hand.
“Whoah, we’re talking about you here.”
“Is she? It’s been four months, and you’re still together; she’s still actually here.”
“Yea, she hasn’t run away from me yet, and ya know, we have a good time.”
“She makes you happy?”
“Y-yea. I mean, am I ready to ask her to marry me? No, but I gave her a drawer last week.”
“A drawer?”
“Yea. She’s only got a few things in it; honestly, she lives more in the news van than anything.”
“You gave Taylor a drawer. In your loft?”
“Am I mumbling or something? A drawer, yes. In my loft.”
“That’s uh - that’s cool.” But, damnit, Eddie can’t do this for the third time. He doesn’t have the strength left. He grips the dishtowel hanging from the knife drawer just to ground himself to something.
“You okay?”
“Yep, yep.”
“You’re looking a little panicky. Maybe it’s not just Ana. Maybe you’ve just got a real fear of commitment thing going on. Even if it’s mine.”
“Shit,” his chest hurts this time, and his whole body is hot, but he’s shivering.
“Put your hand back on my heart.”
“No, no! God, that’s going to make this worse.”
“What? Why? It worked last time.”
“Exactly. And in the bathroom, it was you, so much you,” Eddie’s knees are weak now. He isn’t sure how much longer he can stay upright, and suddenly everything, fucking everything, smells like Buck.
“Eddie, you’re not making any sense.”
“I need you to go. Can you go, please?”
“I’m not going to leave you like this.”
And, of course, Eddie knows Buck won’t leave him. Buck will do just about anything Eddie asks, but he won’t do this. He won’t leave Eddie when Eddie needs him so badly.
“Buck, please, you’re making things worse.”
“How am I making things worse?”
“Because you’re the only one who can make them better!”
“Eddie, Eddie.” Buck wraps Eddie up in his arms before he can fall to the floor, probably hitting his head on the way down. The instant calm he feels with Buck’s body pressed hard against his, his soft breath hitting the curve of Eddie’s neck terrifies him. It isn’t a new fear, but it’s one he’s been feeling so much more lately, one he can’t seem to ignore. He’s so tired from his body trying to run away from everything; his bones ache, his chest is sore. Finally, he closes his eyes and gives in to the fear, stops trying to fight or flee, and just lets Buck hold onto him. His fingers rake through Eddie’s sweat-slicked hair as Eddie’s breathing starts to slow.
“Shh, it’s okay,” Buck whispers into Eddie’s throbbing temple.
“It’s not okay at all.”
“Why not?”
“Because I’m in love with you,” he rushes out in one broken breath, “it isn’t just that Ana feels wrong; it’s that you feel right. You’ve always felt right.”
Buck is quiet for what feels like a hundred moments before he finally seems to have something to say.
“Huh,” he breathes out from the back of his throat.
“That’s all you have to say?”
“What would you like me to say?”
“I don’t know. You could say that I’m insane, that you love Taylor, that you’re not into men, not into me.”
“I could say any of that, but then I’d be lying to you.”
“What?”
“Look, Eddie, I-I don’t know if I’m in love with you, but I feel something. Something more than I’ve ever felt with anyone, and I kinda keep thinking it’s going to go away, but it never goes away.”
“Huh.”
Buck laughs and gently sits Eddie up, tangled across Buck’s long legs, still safe in his arms, “are you okay?” he asks.
“I think I am.”
“Good.”
Buck presses a kiss to the tip of Eddie’s nose, and Eddie smiles before he tilts his chin, so Buck’s lips fall against his. It’s a slow, quiet kiss that lasts only a few seconds before they both pull away.
Eddie is so tired he can barely keep his eyes open, so he lets them slip closed, lets Buck hold him closer in the middle of the kitchen floor until he falls asleep.

Cupcakes and Therapy-Meeting
Tumblr media
A/N: I'm so sorry this is late, I had it queued up for the wrong day, but it's finally here. This is just the first part, I plan on continuing this with little blurbs after. I hope you enjoy!
Word Count: 2.15k
Warnings: Some language, a panic attack and talks of panic attacks, falcon and the winter soldier spoilers
He woke up in a cold sweat, the last of his nightmare still fresh on his mind. For the third time that night he’d been jolted awake, the idea of sleep slowly slipping away. The sun was just starting to rise, a few rays slipping through the cracks in the blinds. He hadn’t slept through the night since his time in Wakanda. After Steve left him and the fighting stopped, there was nothing keeping his mind occupied anymore.
Slowly, he rose from his makeshift bed on the floor, every inch of his body aching from lack of sleep. He made his way over to the window, looking out at the street below. A new hobby he’d found was people watching, as creepy as it is for an ex-assassin to do, but it calmed him. It brought him back to reality when he felt like he was slipping into a dark place.
He doesn’t realize how long he’s stood there until Alpine starts rubbing up against his leg, meowing loudly. Alpine never fails to remind him just how utterly starving he is after sleeping for 22 hours a day. Bucky makes his way to the kitchen to fill his bowl, making note of all the things he’s running out of, a trip to the market after therapy becoming his plans for the day.
He throws a jacket on over his t-shirt and slips on a pair of gloves before leaving the apartment and making his way to the small coffee shop just around the corner. His routine had started consisting of coming here at ungodly hours of the morning for breakfast before making his way to his weekly therapy sessions.
He walked in and sat at his usual table, the barista on shift coming over with his usual coffee and muffin. Bucky hands her a crumpled 5 with a small smile, before grabbing a newspaper. He doesn’t really read it, he’s not one for politics before noon, but he does it to keep him occupied. It also helps to make it not look like he’s scoping the place out when he sits there for hours a day.
He sits there sipping his coffee and nibbling on his muffin, still too shaken from his nightmare to stomach much. He looks up from the newspaper every now and then to watch the people around him. Sunday mornings make the cafe crowded, couples and groups of friends line the one wall, families taking up space at the tables, and a few solos floating through.
There’s a feeling in his chest that hits him hard as he watches a mom trying to wrangle her daughter as the dad laughs. It hits again as he sees a woman curled into the side of the man beside her, giggling at something he’s whispering in her ear. His eyes shift from person to person, the ache growing strong as his breathing becomes difficult. He stands up abruptly, his knee hitting the table causing his coffee to spill, the few people around him shooting him strange looks. He rushes for the door, barely having time to apologize for bumping into someone.
The heat hits him hard when he steps outside, the feeling of being suffocated only worsening. He can’t think straight, the lack of air in his lungs making him dizzy. He turns into an alleyway, leans against the wall and tries to ground himself. A woman spots him as she walks by, coming over to check on him. She rests her hands on his arms, shaking him gently to get him to focus on her.
“Sir, sir you’ve got to breathe. In, out. Easy, easy. There you go.”
Her voice is smooth, almost melodic, and it does the trick to help calm him. Bucky attempts to follow her breathing, gasps of air slowly turning into steady breaths.
He manages to say a small “Thanks,” between breaths. The girl smiles and lingers a little longer to make sure he’s okay before heading on her way. Bucky’s stuck momentarily, trying to figure out what the hell just happened. Suddenly much more tired and willing to go back to bed, he wishes he could head back home and hide for the rest of the day, but he doesn’t want to deal with what’ll happen if he doesn’t show up to therapy.
***
He keeps zoning out as his therapist talks, his mind wandering to what had happened that morning. He was no stranger to panic attacks, but they usually came after a nightmare, not sitting in a coffee shop. And the woman, no ones ever been that quick to help him, not when he looks the way he does. He couldn’t stop thinking about her, her face stuck in his mind.
“James, at least pretend to pay attention.” His therapist's voice knocked him out of his thoughts.
“I’m listening.”
“No you’re not, you’ve got that look on your face that means you’re thinking about your nightmare while telling me you’re not having any.” Her voice is calm, but he knows she’s getting annoyed with him.
“I can assure you, I’m not thinking about a nightmare. I, uh, had a panic attack this morning.” He looks away from her, the confession more than he’s ever shared.
“James, that’s normal. PTSD has a lot of symptoms.”
“No, no this was different. This wasn’t because of a memory or a nightmare. I was sitting drinking coffee, just looking around, and it hit me. I had to leave, spent a while trying to calm myself in an alley. And this woman, she came over and tried to help me. I mean, it worked, but I just, I don’t know. It’s stupid.”
“It’s not stupid, you’ve got to stop downplaying these things.” She’s really starting to get annoyed now, her voice now having a slight edge to it.
Bucky can’t quite figure out what pisses him off more, knowing she’s right, or how she doesn’t sugar coat things.
“Tell me exactly how it started, what were you doing?”
He groans, not feeling up for a heart to heart at the moment.
“Listen, I told you. I was drinking coffee and looking around. People watching, I guess. Keeps me occupied.”
“Ah,” she sighs. “I think what’s happening is your minds telling you that you’re lonely. Seeing all those people being happy together, it’s something you haven’t had in a while. You need people, James.”
He doesn’t want to hear it and she knows it. It’s all he’s been told for months now. But he’s fine, really. He has weekly lunches with Yori, and Alpine is plenty of company when he’s at home.
“Listen doc, I’m fine.”
“Bullshit. After everything that’s happened to you, being alone is the quietest, most personal hell. And, James, it is very hard to escape it.”
***
The market was crowded today. The mid-summer heat enticing people to spend their days in the sun. Bucky made his way through the rows of stands, stopping to grab various items he thought his fridge was lacking. This had become a weekend routine for him, spending Sunday afternoons trying to create some sort of normality in his life.
He gets distracted momentarily by the sound of a high pitched laugh, forgetting about the bag of fruit being handed to him. It’s then that he spots you, the same girl who helped him in the alley. You’ve traded your hoodie for a tank top and you’ve got a little yellow apron covering you now. There’s a basket of pastries in your hand and you’re laughing with a group of people.
That small ache in his chest makes an appearance again, thoughts racing through his mind. Bucky doesn’t believe in fate, he’s far too old and seen too many things to think it’s real. But in this moment as he watches you, the girl who took time to care for him in a dark alleyway, looking like the world belonged to her, he can’t help thinking that maybe it does exist.
He doesn't know what comes over him, but before he knows it, he’s shoving everything into his bags and heading towards the shop. He doesn’t know what he’ll say, blinded by the need to just be near her. Before he can reach you, you’ve already headed back into the building and stationed yourself behind the counter.
He walks in and is hit with the smell of fresh pastries and he’s brought back to spending weekend mornings baking with his mom and sister. You’re just finishing up with the group, turning your attention to Bucky, “Hi! Welcome to Honey, what can I get for ya?”
Bucky blinks a few times, suddenly losing every ounce of confidence he’d had. “Do you need a few more minutes? Or would you like a suggestion?”
He takes a second to compose himself before replying, “Yeah, um. A suggestion, please?”
He doesn’t understand where his shyness has come from, but you seem to find it endearing. You motion to the display case and start rambling on about each treat, “The orange zest cookies seem to be a fan favourite, personally I like the neapolitan ones the best. We’ve also got every flavour of scone you could imagine if you’re feeling more classy. And oh, this one's new, bourbon pecan nut bars, a little midday pick me up. We’ve also got some fresh sandwiches if you’re looking for lunch. Or if you’re still not sure I can do a sampler box?”
“Yea, I’ll just get one of those, and maybe a sandwich too?”
“Sure thing!”
Bucky watches you fill up a little basket for him, noticing how you add multiples of your favourites. When you head into the back for a moment, he starts figuring out how to bring up this morning without being creepy. He doesn’t want to sound like he stalked you, that would really mess up his shot with you. You finish it up with a fresh sandwich from the back and hand him a neatly wrapped basket. “Alright, is that everything?”
Bucky realizes that this is his last moment to say anything, “Yes, and no. I don’t know if you remember, but I’m the guy who you stopped to help in the alley this morning. I didn’t stalk you or anything, I swear, I was just shopping in the market when I saw you and I thought I’d come over and say thank you.” By this point he’s wishing the ground would open up and swallow him, his face turning extremely red.
“I thought it was you. Don’t worry, I’m not freaked out. It’s no big deal, I’m glad you’re okay. I know how scary panic attacks can be when you’re alone, I’ve had far too many.” You offer him some sympathy, knowing how awful these things can be.
“Yeah, yeah I’m good. Thank you again for the help. I’m Bucky by the way.” He reaches his hand out towards you, and when you take you swear you feel something, “Y/N, nice to meet you.” You reply with a smile.
The both of you stand there for a moment, lost in each other, only shaken out of it by the ringing of the door as someone enters. “I should go, I’m still on the clock.” You reluctantly let go of his hand.
“Can I get your number before I leave?” The question takes you by surprise, but you’re quick to put your number in his phone, and he makes a promise to call you later that night.
***
When you arrive home that evening you’ve completely forgotten about the promised phone call, too eager to make dinner and then climb into bed. You’re in the middle of cooking when your phone goes off with an unknown number on the screen. “Hello?”
“Hey, it’s Bucky.”
That voice fills your ears and your heart stops for a moment. He sounds tired, the raspiness sending a warm shiver throughout your body.
“Hey, yea, how are you?”
The both of you fall into comfortable small talk. He asks you about work and you tell him about all of your favourite moments from the day. You ask him about the pastries you sent him home with and he confesses that his favorite were the oatmeal lemon cookies, they remind him of the ones his mom used to make.
You end up still on the phone with him by the time you’re curled up in bed, barely able to keep your eyes open. “You should go to bed doll, I can hear how tired you are.”
“But where’s the fun in that?”
Bucky laughs, a small little chuckle, and all you want is to be able to hear that sound forever. “Why don’t you come over tomorrow after I’ve closed up the bakery and I’ll teach you to make something?”
“I’d like that. I’ll see you tomorrow doll.”
“See you tomorrow Bucky.”

"Ice Cold", a Leon Kennedy x reader fanfiction
As an Art and Design student all you want to do is just knuckle down and finish that one goddamn piece you've been working on for months. Too bad your time is constantly stolen by your Waiter job with minimal pay, but hey, at least the tips are good if you unbutton your shirt that one more time.
Masterlist
Chapter 2: The Sketches
“It’s ten A.M. dumbass, get out of bed.” You woke up to the sound of your roommates voice and the feel of a pillow hitting your face. “We have our reservation in like fifteen minutes…”
The reminder of your scheduled fancy breakfast with your roommate managed to wake you up fully and you instantly ran into the bathroom to have a shower.
As you stood there with the water running on your skin you began to feel your head pounding. “Great, a fucking hangover.” You muttered as you turned the shower knob, stopping the water and leaving you cold. You stepped out of the shower with a towel hanging over your shoulders and sat down on the toilet seat. "Hey, can you maybe make me some tea or coffee or something? I got a headache, probably overworked or something" you lied, shouting to your roommate.
“Yea sure 'overworked', huh? Don't worry, I'll make something but get ready already!" You dried yourself with a small towel and put on some light clothes. A pair of shorts and a white shirt, it was hot outside due to it being summer and wearing anything other than shorts is a death sentence. You didn't feel like styling your hair so you just refreshed yourself, hoping you wouldn't look too bad. You stepped out of the small bathroom and were greeted by your roommate who handed you a glass of water with a pill. "I'm sure this will help more than just some tea.. after your 'overworking'". They winked at you and you feared they thought something different than what actually happened.
"Hey hey hey, that's not what happened okay? Imma tell you when we're eating, alright? But don't assume anything wrong, you hear me?" You laughed a little, but had to stop because of your headache. You took the glass of water and the mysterious pill, placing it in your mouth and then swallowing it with a gulp of water. You then saw your friend standing at the door, already wearing shoes and ready to go out. You sigh as you grab a pair of sneakers from under your bed, practically jumping straight into them.
“I read the reviews of this restaurant we’re going to and legit like all of them say that it’s super cold in there, you might want to grab your jacket.” They get the jacket off of the back of the door and hold it out for you to take.
“Thank you, thank you.” You accept the jacket and fold it over your arm as you place your phone in the pocket, but rather than it going straight in like normal, something is in there and blocks it from sitting perfectly. You place your phone in your back pocket and reach your hand into your jacket, pulling out a white envelope. The envelope was a little heavy and had a note written on it “This semester is on me, think of it as payment for agreeing to decorate my house - Leon S. Kennedy.” You slit the envelope open and it looked identical to your tips envelope, absolutely filled with cash. You let out a small gasp. "Holy shit."
You looked at your roommate who also looked at you and the envelope laying in your hand. "Yeah, holy shit. Are you working as a stripper now or how'd you get all the money suddenly?"
“Although I would be a great stripper… No.” You look at the cash, not knowing what to do with it. "I have to give it back. I can't just keep all.. this."
“Uh?! Yes you can!” Your roommate looked at you like you were an idiot. “That's like five grand there! If you’re not going to take it I will gladly take it for you!”
"No way! I can't just accept this money!” You close the envelope and place it on the desk on your side of your shared room. “This doesn't feel right, you know that." You thought about what you're going to do next. You looked between your friend and the money and decided you need to do the right thing. "I'm sorry, but I have to return it. As soon as I get my paycheck I will go out to eat breakfast with you, I promise! But I need to do this. Sorry." You grabbed the envelope again and walked past your roommate and out the door, giving them a look of excuse. They simply scoffed and slammed the door behind you.
As you sat outside on the curb you used your phone to look up where you were last night so that you could get Leon’s address. As you ordered your taxi it asked you for some contact details. “Kennedy.” You chuckled as you entered that as your last name, thinking it would be a funny joke. On your way you texted your roommate once again, apologizing for your behavior but not for your need to do the right thing. You sighed as you put your phone in your pocket and looked out the window.
After some time you arrived at what appeared to be Leon's home. You couldn’t really see it the night before since it was dark, but it looked even better during the day than you could have imagined before. You paid the taxi driver, with your own money this time, then left the car and went towards that big door. You looked for a bell but couldn't find one so you knocked against the thick wood, hoping someone would even hear it. After repeating this a couple more times and almost giving up, the door opens and you are greeted by a woman. She was wearing a white dress shirt and a black bustier over the top, followed by a black pair of trousers. Confused, you looked at her and then at the house, thinking you were wrong. "Can I help you with anything?" The woman asked, not even bothering to ask you inside.
"Uhm.." you stuttered, not knowing what to do in this situation. "I thought someone else lived here, but I guess I'm wrong. Sorry for bothering you." Something inside you actually hoped you typed in the wrong address. This couldn't be Leon's home, right? But it looked so similar? Maybe all the drinks added up over the night and made me remember this wrong..? You thought back to the day before and remembered how Leon was actually texting someone and didn't tell you a name or something. Maybe he actually has a wife or something and I misunderstood last night. Maybe he actually paid me to.. stay away? You shook your head. That's bizarre. Or is it?
"Who did you think lived here then? Maybe I can help you." You were taken back to reality from that woman's voice and looked at her.
Fumbling with your hands you tried to form a whole sentence, but all that came out was "Kennedy."
She looked at you. "Do you mean Leon Kennedy?" You nodded your head, still hoping you were wrong here. "Well, it appears you are right then. May I ask how you know him? I've never seen anyone like.. you here." It seemed to you she spit that 'you' out as if you were something less worthy than her. But maybe you were once again imagining things.
"Well, we actually met yesterday and he invited me to come over. I forgot to give something to him, so that's what I'm here for now. Can I see him now?" You looked at the woman standing in your way, trying to be confident.
“Mr. Kennedy is out of the house at the moment and he won’t be back for a few hours. I will tell him that you stopped by.” She stepped back from the door. “Bye now.” She practically slammed it in your face, the waft from the door causing your messy hair to blow backwards.
You rolled your eyes and sat down on the steps, exactly where you were sitting with Leon last night. You searched through your contacts and found Leon’s name. After tapping the call button it rang four times before you heard a rough “Hello?” come from the other side.
It took you back a little as it sounded like you had just woken him up. “Oh, hiya Leon.” You looked back at the front door as you began to talk. “I’m sitting on your doorstep right now…” You then looked back at the driveway, the pebbles and the green grass perfectly manicured. “I wanted to swing by to drop off that money you left in my jacket.”
“What, why?” He sounded confused. You could tell that he pulled the phone away from his face when he coughed, probably trying to clear his throat. “That money is for you, Buttercup.” He chuckled, making you blush a little. “You’re not supposed to give it back to me.” Sounds could be heard in the background as he talked but you couldn't tell what they were.
"Is there anyone with you right now?" You didn't even think about that question before it left your mouth.
"Don't worry about it. And also don't worry about the money. It's a gift, just accept it." You let out a small laugh.
"Just accept it? This is more money than I would make in two months! I can't just accept that, Leon! I can leave it with your girlfriend if you don't want to take it back, but I won't keep it." It was silent on the other side. You were worried you took it too far now.
But then, a chuckle and a full out laugh. "Girlfriend? I'm sorry, but you probably went to the wrong house. I don't have a girlfriend, partner or whatever, Buttercup." You could hear him still chuckle on the other side of the phone, but you didn't feel like laughing.
You felt kind of dumb right now. "Well, whoever that woman was, she just shut the door before me and left me sitting in front of it. So I guess I'm just gonna leave the envelope under the doormat." You looked around. There wasn't even a doormat. "YOU DON'T HAVE A GODDAMN DOORMAT? LEON S KENNEDY WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS?" You heard him laugh out loud again and didn't even try to stop him from it. You just sighed and gave it up. "Well, Mr. Kennedy, I'm gonna find a place to put that money. And don't even think of sneaking it back to me, you hear me?" You didn't even wait for an answer and just hung up. You sat on the stairs for a few more minutes thinking about what to do next.
Just as you stood up to leave you heard the door behind you opening again. "Mr. Kennedy just called me. He wants me to let you inside. Please take off your shoes here and.. don't touch anything." There is not even a thing to touch here, what do you want? You went through the doors and left your shoes next to them. The woman looked at you again before turning her back and walking away. So now you just stood there, in this empty, big house with a woman who doesn't seem to like your company.
Just like the night before you went through the entire house looking around, but also trying your best to avoid that woman. At some point you even found some paper and a pen and began drawing some rooms with fitting, and for now missing, furniture. After a while you felt your phone vibrating in your pocket so you put your drawing away and checked your messages. Apparently Leon tried to call you a few times but ended up sending you a message instead. You opened and read it. I'll be back home in a few hours. Please just accept the money, but stay for as long as you'd like to. I wanna see you again later. - Leon. You had to smile. Who even puts their name at the end of a message nowadays? You just replied with a quick 'alright' before putting your phone away again. You went back to what you were doing: planning and drawing the interior design of Leon's big ass home, all from memory from your tour last night.
You ended up placing all of your designs and sketches on the floor in what you assumed was supposed to be a living room. It just had two simple fabric couches facing each other in the middle of a giant room. Each design was placed in order, somewhat resembling the floorplan of the house. You didn't know how much time passed, but you began to feel tired and had to take a small break. Since you didn't wanna cross paths with that grumpy woman, you just stayed in that room. After some time of relaxing you felt really tired and didn't have any more motivation to plan the last few rooms. It must have been the combination of lack of sleep and whatever that pill was that your roommate gave you, so you ended up sitting on one of the couches and you began to close your eyes. Before you even knew it you fell on your side and into a light sleep.
The sound of a door slamming against the wall scared you half to death. As you looked towards the noise, you saw the same woman from earlier looking at you. “My apologies.” She smiled as she looked to the other side of the room. You followed her eyes and noticed she was looking at Leon. He was sitting opposite you with all of your sketches in his hands. You rubbed your eyes, trying to look somewhat alive. Leon didn't even look at her or you, he was way too focused on your drawings. Next to him you saw a laptop, where he seemed to type a few things in separate to going through your sketches. You sat up and slowly walked towards him. Without looking up from the drawings he talked to you. "These drawings are amazing. When did you make all of these?"
You were flustered by his actual interest. "Uhm.. I just made them for fun while waiting for you.. I didn't even take it seriously.." You scratched the back of your head.
"Are you kidding me? You probably.. no, you DID more for the interior design in the past few hours than I or Angel over there did in the past three years!" You were kind of confused by the name. Angel? Her? Was that supposed to be an unfitting nickname or her actual name? You didn't want to ask so you kept that thought to yourself. After Leon's comment Angel looked at you even more disgusted than before, it's a wonder that was even possible.
You wanted to ignore the weird feeling that stood in the room, so you just sat down next to Leon on the couch. "What are you doing on your laptop?" You wanted to look at it but before you had the chance to make out what he typed in earlier he closed it.
"Nothing special, don't worry about it." You sighed but didn't push it. After a few seconds of awkward silence between the three of you Leon stood up from the couch with his laptop, walked towards Angel and gave it to her. You looked at him confused, but he didn't even notice that. He said something to the woman but you couldn't understand it since they were so close to each other. You didn't know what, but a weird feeling spread in your body. Jealousy? You had to laugh out loud, which made the two look at you.
"Is there a problem?" Angel asked you, to which you answered with a head shake.
"I'm sorry, I was just thinking about... something funny." You saw Leon's lip lift up a little bit which made you smile a little bit, too. Angel turned back from you and Leon led her out the door to the main hall.
You could hear them talk for a few minutes before the door opened again and Leon came back in alone. "Soo.. now that you're awake, do you want to grab something to eat? We can drive somewhere or I'll just order something."
You thought about the offer, but instantly remembered why you came here in the first place. "No way, Leon! I can't take any more money from you. I actually came here to give you back that money you left in my jacket. It's good for you to have so much but I can't keep it! This doesn't feel right." You looked at him frustrated.
He just shook his head while laughing. "I told you it wasn't for nothing. You literally just proved me right with giving it to you after seeing your drawings. You earned that money."
You were kind of flustered but still couldn't just accept it. "Leon, it's really nice of you and I don't wanna argue. But you gave me way more money than these few sketches are worth! My roommate even thought I started working as a stripper!"
Leon looked at you with big eyes, then stepped closer to you. "Well.. have you considered working as one? They make a good amount of money and I'm sure you would do great." He winked at you as he laughed out loud and even though you knew he was joking you turned completely red.
"Leon...what. the. hell. No! Of course I didn't think about working as one! I'm happy with my current job.. I guess." You looked at him again, realizing how close he suddenly was to you.
"Well, if that's what you think, alright. But I'm not gonna miss that money and I'm sure you will bring it to good use. So please, stop arguing with me and just accept it." His smile had disappeared and his face was a little more serious, he really wanted you to take that money.
“I can’t, Leon.” You grabbed his hand from his side and placed the filled envelope in his palm. “It’s too much." He looked at you disappointed, as if all he just said meant nothing. "Whatever." He muttered to himself. It made you feel bad for your behavior but you knew it was the right thing to do.
You looked at him in a sorry way and wanted to walk past him. But he blocked the way. "That's all I came for, Leon. I think it's better I leave now. Your Angel is probably waiting for you already."
He scoffed at your comment. “I think you misunderstood something here. Angel is her actual name. If I had to give her a nickname it would be anything but Angel, believe me. She can be a pain in the ass, but she gets her work done. And that’s all that matters for me.”
You let out yet another sigh. Why were you relieved anyway? Whatever Leon is doing with women, or men, was none of your business. You’ve literally only known him for like a day and act like a jealous partner. “I’m sorry, I didn’t want to say it like that.”
“You don't have to apologize all the time, sweetheart. I thought it was cute.” He gave you a little wink and you felt your face heat up again. You looked away shyish and waited for his next move. But it appeared he did the same since he was just looking at you, waiting for you to say something. “Ehem..Food, right? I guess that´s what you wanted. Soo... Do you have anything special in mind?” He looked at you with a childish smile and simply answered “Just you wait, I have something great in mind.”
“Pizza?” You chuckled. “I didn’t think a fancy man like you ate peasant food like that.” You picked up your phone and began looking up a place that would deliver to Leon’s house
“Oh come on! Who doesn’t like pizza?” He shuffled over on the floor so that he was sitting beside you, looking at your phone. “The third one down.” He pointed at a restaurant named The Broadway. “That’s the best one around here, trust me, I’ve tried them all.”
“Alrighty.” You tapped on the phone number and as it rang you held it up to your ear. “Oh hiya! I’m looking to place an order for delive-”
“Pick-up. They only do pick-up.” Leon interrupted you.
“For pick-up!” You corrected yourself. When the worker asked for your name you couldn't help yourself. “For Kennedy.” Leon chuckled slightly and shook his head.
You ordered food for the two of you and some simple drinks to go with it. Of course Leon would get wine for the two of you but there’s nothing wrong with soda, especially when you’re already eating a greasy pizza. “Do we get Angel anything?” You asked Leon in response to the other person on the end of the call asking if anything else was wanted.
“She loves garlic bread, just get her some of that.” Leon replied, looking up from his own phone.
After the guy on the phone told you a time to pick up the food both you and Leon put on some shoes and went outside. “You gonna drive up to that poor pizza place with your fancy Porsche?” You asked jokingly.
To your surprise he actually shook his head. “You can choose the car if you want to. If you got a driver's license, you can even drive it yourself.”
You looked at him shocked. “Yea, sure. I’m gonna drive one of your expensive cars. Even if I had a license I wouldn't dare to sit down on the driver's seat. If I destroy it there's no way I'll ever be able to pay for the repair!”
“What’s one car more or less?” As he said that and you looked at him with an open mouth you heard a garage opening next to you. The bright lights kinda blinded you at first but as soon as you got used to the brightness you saw multiple cars and motorcycles standing in the big garage.
“Wow. What the hell.” That was all you were able to say at that moment. “I’m guessing that this is like your passion or a hobby?” You said as you walked in. Each vehicle was spotless, so clean that you could see your reflection in each one.
“Yeah, something like that, you could say.” As he was moving past the different vehicles he told you a little bit about all of them. Even though you had zero knowledge of cars and stuff you listened to him closely, trying to understand what he told you. You could see it in his eyes how he loved talking about these things, which made you smile.
After a good twenty minutes however you had to stop him. “As much as I love listening to you blabber away, I really wanna get our pizzas now.” Exactly at that moment your stomach began to growl, making you and Leon laugh.
“Well then, I hoped you listened closely. Go on and pick a ride.” He gestured around the both of you. You were thinking for a few seconds before finding a car you liked. You pointed towards it. “I like this one.” He followed your gaze and walked towards the car.
“I see. So you like the big ones, huh? Well then this Jeep Grand Cherokee is perfect for your needs.” He talked like he advertised the car which made you laugh and shake your head. He opened the passengers door for you before taking a seat behind the wheel. In just a few seconds the car left the garage and you found the both of you on the main road. Leon drove the car with ease which really fascinated you.His left hand was on the wheel and he was leaning on his right arm, he probably noticed you staring because he turned to you. “You wanna take over? The streets are empty here anyway.”
You shook your head again. “I meant what I said before. Just you drive now, I'm starving.” He looked back to the street and the rest of the drive went on quiet but nice. “I’ll learn to drive another day.”
Once you got back to Leon’s house Angel greeted Leon at the door, completely ignoring you. Leon tossed his keys to her and she caught them with one hand. As both you and Leon kicked off your shoes Angel hopped into the car and placed it back into the garage with the rest of them.
Leon led you to the kitchen and placed the multiple boxes on the counter, rather than sitting down he reached into a cupboard and pulled out two wine glasses. “Red or white?” He asked you.
“I don’t really want to drink tonight.” You admitted. That small hangover you had this morning wasn’t all that bad but you didn’t want to repeat it.
“Are you sure?” He asked, filling up both glasses with ice cubes. “I would hate to drink alone.”
“Fine.. but only one glass!” You gave in, to which Leon held both of the glasses up in confusion. “Huh? Oh! Red!” You replied to his earlier question. Leon nodded and opened up a small wine refrigerator he had under the counter, he picked up a bottle and read the label to himself. “Only the finest huh?”
“The finest thing is sitting right in front of me.” He chuckled and winked at you as he poured the two glasses, placing the fresh cork on the countertop. “So is this a business date where I hire you to be my interior decorator?”
“I’m only a student, Leon.” You opened one of the boxes and a waft of the smell of the food hit your senses, making you feel even more hungry than before.
“Whatever you say, student. This doesn’t change the fact that you already helped me a lot today. So this one is on you.” He raised his glass and with a cling both of yours met. You took a small sip and then took out a piece of pizza. “Besides, wouldn’t furnishing such a fancy house like this look really good on your resume?” You nodded slightly.
“Yea, you´re probably right about that, too. But let's not talk about work now and just enjoy the evening.” He gave you a smile before eating and drinking too. That evening seemed to never end as the both of you talked and drank, with no end in sight.
Maybe working for Leon wouldn’t be such a bad idea.

you were going to do it today for sure. you had already prepared a script that you memorized, added in some gaps for him to react, and practiced in front of the mirror.
walking around the building where armin usually hung out, you set out to search for him, bumping into jean and connie to question them about the blonde’s whereabouts.
finally, you were told from hitch that he was in the room where annie was being kept again. you internally sighed at that. ever since armin became the colossal titan, he had to visit annie's room at least once. countless times, you had to convince yourself that it was only because of bertholdt that armin felt this way. there was no other reason. why else would he always offer to walk you back to your cabin late at night? or help you launch onto your horse if it was being uncooperative?
it felt like armin was unaware of his feelings and that he wasn't giving his heart a chance. the personal connection he felt with annie was false. that's what you wanted to believe. but you didn't want to be selfish either. if armin really had feelings for annie, he would reject you today. then you would just simply move on.
coming around the corner, you saw the door to her room in view but it was left slightly ajar. a small sliver of golden light was peeking out and you could hear a familiar voice.
"annie..I don't know what'll happen. when you'll wake up. but just know that I'll be waiting for you."
hearing those words made you stumble over your boots, leaving an echo to bounce off the walls.
"hello? is someone there?"
the sound of his boots grew louder and the door creaked open. he was met with the sight of you leaning against the wall, surprised at the sudden encounter.
"y/n? what are you doing here?"
"I-"
"oh..did you hear what I said?"
you swallowed, not knowing what to do in this situation. you didn't mean to eavesdrop, you simply wanted to talk to him. but your curiosity took over you.
"I just- yea I heard. but I didn't mean to! I just wanted to talk to you, armin."
through the glow coming from the room, you could see armin's face heat up and his fists clench at his sides. you couldn't tell if he was embarrassed or angered.
"I'm sorry, you know what, I'll just go." and with that, you turned your back to him and took off on a hurried walk.
as he watched you leave, armin remembered that you wanted to talk to him. but it was too late. you were gone.
going back inside the room, he looked at the girl trapped in front of him. all of a sudden he felt embarrassed. embarrassed that it was you who had heard his confession, because he had always felt unsure around you. meaning he didn't know what the two of you were. you talked and had laughs with each other but it never escalated into anything more. yet he always felt a tug in his heart at the sight of you. or a feeling of annoyance whenever one of the corps got too close.
so..was what he felt for annie not real? was he only convincing himself because he was the one who inherited bertholdt's memories? did armin feel so detached from everyone that he sought comfort from a girl frozen in place? no. he was giving her company. because he knows that she'll wake up one day and that she'll need someone by her side. but there's always the question of doubt. will she wake up? and what happens after? what if she resents armin?
lost and confused, armin left the room. he didn't like this feeling of uncertainty. he couldn't be selfish and want two people at the same time. that was unfair to the both of you. he also didn't want to choose you over annie just because there was the possibility that she would never wake up. that'd just mean that you were his second choice. he felt like he had to figure it out. first by talking to you and asking what you had to say.
it was almost past midnight when you heard a knock on your door. it was unusual yes, no one really went outside when it got dark unless it was an emergency because of the freezing temperatures. but in case it was someone in need, you slowly opened the door. only to be met with the face of the blue-eyed boy.
"armin? what are you doing here, it's- do you know what time it is?"
"I know, I'm sorry. I hope I didn't wake you up. but I just felt like I should ask what you wanted to talk about. sorry if I looked..unapproachable earlier."
“oh, no I get it! Haha I didn’t mean to eavesdrop anything uh but don’t worry about it, it wasn’t important, goodnight!”
“Wait!”
his foot stuck in between the door and its frame right when you were about to close it. the look in his eyes seemed to be desperate and distressed. you wondered if something had happened since you last saw him.
feeling a chill from the wind outside, you opened the door a bit wider to invite him in and he gladly accepted it.
“Y/n I’m sure whatever you have to say is important.”
jeez, it was as if he knew what you wanted to say and was taunting you. why was he being so persistent all of a sudden? armin could ask himself the same. he had no idea why you were looking for him but he had a feeling it was important and needed to be said.
you sighed. alright, if he wasn't going to leave you might as well have him settled down. after getting him a warm drink, you sat down in front of him. your own mug was filled with your favorite, but the warmth did nothing to stop your hands from shaking. deciding it was best to set the mug down, you looked over at the blonde in front of you. neither of you said anything nor knew where to start. it wasn't usually this awkward between the two of you.
until you realize that he was waiting for you. oh!
"Um, so what I wanted to say armin...was that I, I um.." just do it, y/n. everything you had rehearsed in front of the mirror felt like it just went out the window. "I like you. and I was wondering if you felt the same." you spit the last word out and immediately grabbed your mug from the coffee table, taking several gulps.
glancing at him, you saw that his eyes had widened and a blush had crept up to his cheeks.
"you, you like me?"
you nod, hesitantly. was he..going to make fun of you? or was this embarrassing for him just as it was for you?
"I think I like you too."
suddenly your drink felt so hot you couldn't swallow it down. he liked you too? you felt so giddy inside that you didn't even ponder about how he was unsure if he liked you or not.
"oh," you say. "oh. so..what now?"
then he looked up and you were met with ocean blue eyes. he looked..beautiful. even with the dirty yellowish glow from your lamp, he looked mesmerizing. and at that moment, you knew what to do.
you leaned in and very gently, pressed your lips to his.

Loki x Reader: Apocalypse ch 7
Thank you for comments/likes/reblogs
-
For the first time in your recent memory, you were warm. In fact, you could almost say you were hot. Part of you wanted to peel off your sweater and sweatpants and just lay in your undergarments and feel the soft fabrics against your skin. The scent enveloping you was intoxicating, and the warm strong limbs tangled through yours holding you tight against the other persons chest…
You opened your eyes.
One of your hands was on the pillow beneath Loki’s face, cupping his cheek, the other laced between his fingers down by your tangled legs. He had his long, long leg thrown over yours and dragged you close to him, holding your chest tight to his chest. Your breath was reheating your face as you breathed into his chest. At some point, someone had pulled down the covers so you wouldn’t suffocate, whether this was done knowingly or not was beyond you.
You stayed completely still, a hare caught in a trap. Do you move and wake him, risking the embarrassment while you try to extricate yourself? Do you stay still and try and fake sleep and let him wake up first and deal with the situation? Had he woken first and was letting you deal with the situation? Do you just wait for him to wake and apologize profusely about your sleeping body clinging to him for warmth? And yet he was clinging to you for warmth also, he definitely did not need warmth in the same way you did.
Loki started to stir.
There was a brief moment of panic as the two of you untangled yourself and pulled apart. Loki’s cheeks were pink and you could feel the heat on your face as you looked at him and he looked in your general direction.
The embarrassment was quickly cut off by a soft cry of agony from Loki gripping the collar on his neck. He straightened up into a kneeling position, trying to straighten his neck as much as possible to stop the spikes digging into his skin.
You moved towards him and gripped his shoulders, steadying him so he was better upright.
“What is that thing, exactly?” You asked, your eyes scanning it up and down.
“It inhibits my seidr.” Loki replied through grit teeth.
“How do you get it off?”
“I have to be worthy of Odin.” Loki tried to look away but gave up quickly. “An insurmountable task I have found in my long life.”
You nodded thoughtfully. “I remember Thor having that happen, Tony talked about it.”
“Tony knows about Thor’s trial?”
“Eh, he found out about New Mexico and how Thor lost his hammer, alien tech, it was some good learning experience for his weapon arsenal.”
“Lovely. More ways for humans to slaughter each other.”
You shook your head, “He’s trying to put it towards better use than that, but anyways, Thor wasn’t worthy of it, right?”
“Yes. He became mortal, not that I was told. His precious son truly became human.”
“Yea, you smacked him pretty hard, they said.”
Loki grimaced. “Yes… I was not in the best state of mind I will admit.” He trailed off.
“Don’t worry, Tony thought it was great. It’s all bygones, no one is mad at you anymore. Trust me.”
Loki frowned, “Why are we discussing this? I’m not exactly fond of that period of my life.”
“Well, if you can’t get it off by the means Odin intended, since he clearly set you up to fail…” You trialed off.
Loki turned towards you, “What do you mean by that?”
“Why not cheat?”
A smile slowly touched the corner of his mouth, then faded. “It’s impossible, there’s no way a mortal could have something to pierce this metal.”
You raised your eyebrow at him and put your hands on your hips defiantly, “You really doubt Tony Stark?”
“Why would he help me?” Loki responded dryly.
“Because I’m going to ask him to.”
Loki leaned back.
“Here, give me a second, let me find my phone.” You got up and started walking around the small room, digging among the collected supplies from the last few weeks.
At last you found your phone at to your great joy it still worked and even had a dial tone when you opened to Tony’s number.
“Hey kiddo.” Tony answered on the second ring. “I’ve been starting to get worried, your phone has been off, I had no way of contacting you, I was going to come visit soon.”
“I’m fine, really. Listen, I need a favor.”
“A favor?”
“Can you bring your sharpest cutting device and come visit?”
“You’re going to have to do better than that.”
“It’s a little hard to explain over the phone.” You glanced over at Loki.
Loki stared blindly at the wall next to you.
Tony sighed, “I’ve got a lot of things on my plate, kiddo.”
“You know I wouldn’t call if it wasn’t urgent.”
“I wouldn’t mind you checking in occasionally if it wasn’t urgent. Things have been really dangerous. More and more are dying to the cold each day.”
“And to the monsters?”
“How’d you hear about that?”
“It was on the news. And…”
“And what?”
“I can tell you more if you visit.”
“Don’t you hold information against me.” Tony griped.
“Hey, I know how to barter with you. You give me something, I’ll give you something in return. Come as soon as you can.” You ended the call.
“What was that about?” Loki asked curiously.
“Whatever those blue monsters were, the Avengers will want to know. I saw a news segment on it. They don’t know what have been attacking people, and it seems like we’re the first ones to survive them.”
Loki turned away. “They’re called frost giants.” He said softly. “Jotuns, if we’re being accurate.”
You furrowed your brow at him, “You know about them?”
Loki sighed, “I’m… familiar.”
You thought of his red eyes behind the gauze. Best not to press it.
There was a streak of red outside your window and you heard a heavy thud at the street below.
“He came now?” You asked shocked. “Go, go, go get dressed.” You ushered Loki to the bedroom so he could change back into his armor, your face heating up as you tried to fix your messed up sleeping hair.
A knock sounded at your apartment door followed by Tony’s voice, “You’re decent, right? I do not want to be traumatized for life.”
“Ha, ha, come in.” You sat down on the bed and pulled your knees up to your chin, waiting for Tony to come in.
The door opened and Tony walked in wearing his Ironman suit. “Hey!” He looked around, “Wow, what’d you do to the place?”
“Consolidated. I figured if I only heat the main area, I’d save electricity.” You stood up and walked over to him.
Tony’s suit melted away and left him in a thick sweater and jeans and a pair of leather gloves. “I’m so glad that suit is insulated.” He caught you in a hug as you squeezed him tight. “So, who’s the guy?”
You pulled back, cheeks burning. “Guy, what guy? Who said anything about a guy?”
Tony raised his eyebrow and pulled off his glasses, letting them melt away. “You definitely don’t wear, uh, what are these?” He bent down a pinched a pair of men’s slacks between his fingers, trying to keep them as far away from himself as possible. “And if you were deciding to, I would definitely be getting you a better stylist.”
“Look, warmth is the most important thing right now, I wasn’t going for style.”
“Uh-huh. Right. So, who’s the guy? You meet someone while rescuing?”
You hesitated, “Kinda.”
“Did he at least sleep on the couch?”
You shoved Tony’s chest, “Who I sleep with has no business of yours.”
“You sly cat, you. How long have you two known each other?”
“Tony!” You dragged out his name. “I didn’t sleep with him. Look, I found someone out in the cold and I brought him back here. I just gave him a place to sleep, I’m not kicking him out.”
“I wish every woman I met out in the cold invited me back home and let me spend the night with her.”
“Honestly Tony.”
“Sorry, sorry, I’m just teasing. You’re so uptight. I know nothing happened.”
You sighed, shoulders slumping, and shook your head.
“Well what’s his name, let me meet him, see if he’s worthy of my baby cousin.”
“He’s injured. Did you bring the tool?”
“Oh yea, right.” Tony reached into his pocket and pulled out a small red tool. It was rather stick like with two prongs at the end. “It can cut through anything, but it’ll take a while if it’s really thick. Laser technology, I won’t bore you with the details.”
“That should be good.”
Tony raised his eyebrow.
You turned and went to your room, knocking on the door, “Are you, uh.” You glanced at Tony, not wanting to have him hear you ask if Loki was dressed.
The door opened and Loki stepped out, fully dressed in his leather and metal armor.
Tony blinked, nearly dropping the tool. “That is not who I expected you to have in your apartment.”

       Dean hadn’t realized how terrified he was of facing his father until he broke down at Jo’s. It hadn’t felt like something he would ever have to do until then. Now, it felt as inevitable as a death sentence.
John had always been a huge force in Dean’s life, but since he had gotten hurt to the point of disability, he was less of a presence and more of an imprint. Letting down his folks was the ultimate sin, one Dean had fought his whole life to resist. He knew they loved him, but would it be enough for them to see beyond the idea of Dean they had in their heads. Could they love a pansy?
His mother would be easier to bring on board; he was her favorite whether she’d admit it or not. On the other hand, John was a Marine, he was a mechanic; he didn’t deal with feelings or things he thought were reckless, selfish choices. Dean had never been selfish a day in his life, but this was something that seemed worth it. Benny was worth it. Dean couldn’t give up on family, and he needed them in his corner if it was going to work at all.
First, Dean just needed to get the words out.
The wind whipped through the neighborhood he grew up in like a child unleashed upon the playground. Direction and speed split its focus until it stilled long enough to move on to the next distraction. Dean parked on the street, letting the familiar siding and newer front door center him as he approached, trying to ignore the uneasiness that was unfurling in his gut. Sam was having lunch with some guys from high school who were in town early for Thanksgiving, granting Dean this window of privacy.
Not that Dean told Sam anything. He had done enough talking at Jo’s, even Benny didn’t know everything that he’d been processing the last few days. He hadn’t wanted to make any promises. Dean walked into the house, calling out his greeting, never one to knock at home. John was parked in front of the television in the living room while Mary sent her welcome from somewhere in the basement.
“Hey! Talk about timing, lunch is just about done,” John teased. “What brings you ‘round? Sammy’s out for the day.”
“Yeah, Dad, I know. Kinda why I came,” Dean shoved his hands in the pockets of jeans, still standing.
“Jayhawks are playing at two if you wanna stay,” John offered. Dean hummed in uncertainty. John dragged his feet from the ottoman to sit up and face Dean better. “Is everything alright?”
“Yeah, nothing we can’t talk about over lunch. I’m gonna go see if Mom needs anything,” Dean nodded towards the basement steps and left John to his football.
Dean bowed his head as he reached the bottom of the steps, clearing the duct work to find Mary folding laundry at the long narrow table they used for everything from school projects to writing out Christmas cards.
“I thought that was you,” Mary said pleasantly. “Did your dad tell you lunch was almost ready?”
She dropped the shirt she had finished atop an awkward pile and opened her arms for a hug. Dean scooped her up, probably a little too enthusiastically, but he didn’t care and she didn’t mind. A simple gasp told him she noticed though.
“So--- what’s the occasion?” Mary asked, turning back to the basket.
“Nothing really, just wanted to catch up,” Dean downplayed, grabbing a pair of jeans to help. Neither of them pointed out that they’d see each other the next day for Sunday dinner. Mary welcomed the visit as much as Dean was dreading it.
“Your father had physical therapy yesterday. I don’t think they get paid enough,” Mary conspired with a heavy side eye.
Dean chuckled, “I’m guessing not his at least.”
“And supposedly I’m the stubborn one,” Mary muttered. “If you want to make some sandwiches, I’m almost done down here. I don’t want to spread the soup too thin.”
Dean nodded and handed her the sweater he had folded last. “Sounds good, anything in particular?”
“Just don’t let him trick you into letting him have the salami, his doctor says he needs to watch the fats,” Mary warned.
Dean perched against the edge of the steps, listening. He slapped the banister and headed back upstairs. “On it.”
The kitchen’s layout hadn’t changed in thirty years and Dean quickly set up an assembly line with poultry, condiments, lettuce and tomatoes. He tucked the cheese with the processed deli meat back in the drawer, hiding the temptation from John. But not before stealing a slice for his and Mary’s sandwiches. He set the table, like hundreds of times before. John’s spot was the head of the table, Mary to his left. Dean set his own plate on John’s right, a seat he fought Sam for more often than not.
Dean stirred the pot, which was much more a vat, of chicken noodle soup. John’s approach was announced by the steady clink of his cane on the hardwood floor of the hallway. Dean pulled out John’s chair before settling down to his heaping sandwich and extra large bowl of soup.
John lifted the top tier of his sandwich, judging the contents. “She got to you, didn’t she?”
Dean just chewed purposely and gave John innocent eyes.
“Figures,” John muttered before bellowing through the house. “Mary! Soup’s ready.”
They ate comfortably, fighting the cold outside with the warmth of the familiarity of a shared meal. The grease from the chicken made bubbles in the broth and Dean blew across the surface mixing them back in. Meanwhile Mary made small talk and John teased her about her part time job.
“Well, I need to get out of the house, or we’d kill each other, you know that,” Mary flicked John’s ear as she cleared their bowls.
“How’s that going?” Dean asked, eyes fixed on his mother’s face. Panic clogged his ears at the thought of never seeing her again.
“‘S fine. People are picky, but it isn’t bad for what it is. Better than being behind a desk or answering the phone,” Mary explained of her work at the local sporting goods store. “Friday will be nuts, lots of sales, but it’s not like we would have been doing anything anyway.”
“So, Bobby and Ellen’s on Thursday?” Dean verified.
“Yup, dinner’s at 1. He says you’re on pie duty?” John asked, surprised.
“That I am. Sam’s stuck with sides, so please remind him. I don’t want to show up and only have rolls and turkey,” Dean asked Mary.
“Can do. We’re bringing the---,” Mary started.
“Cranberry sauce,” Dean and John said in unison.
“And the wine!” Mary said in dismay at their laughter. “Jerks.”
John and Dean grinned as Mary rolled her eyes.
“So, was that everything? It seemed like you had something to hash out with us,” John asked Dean, picking up the last of his sandwich.
“Yeah, mostly. I gotta check with Ellen first, but I might be bringing somebody along,” Dean rushed out. He tipped his bowl back, finishing the final dregs.
“A special someone?” Mary asked delicately, looking at John in hope.
“Yeah, you could say that,” Dean grunted, standing to grab another sandwich.
“Well, is it somebody we know?” Mary prodded, not trying to be too pushy, but obviously curious. “Dean, why are we just now hearing about this?”
Mary’s tone had shifted to apprehension, Dean felt their silent conversation behind his back as he slapped the ingredients together. He shrugged in response, unable to find a proper jumping off point.
He tried to remain casual, but the dred had clawed back up. Without enough wherewithal to speak, Dean sat back down and ate, drawing out his confession to the point of confusion.
John chuckled at Mary’s suspicion. “He’s nervous. Let the boy get it out.”
Dean rolled his eyes at the phrase. “I’m thirty six, Dad,” he said through a mouthful.
“Is that right? Coulda fooled me.” John tisked his tongue. Mary ignored his teasing tone.
“Dean, what’s the matter? What’s this girl’s problem that’s making you act so--- cagey all the sudden?” Mary asked anxiously. John slipped Mary’s hand into his, silently soothing her as they waited for Dean’s answer.
“Uh, yeah, about that,” Dean started, sitting back, and shooting for blase. “Turns out I actually like guys, too. So, uh, there’s no problem with a girl. I just wanted to bring, um, this guy I’ve been seeing, Benny, to Bobby and Ellen’s.”
Mary inhaled and clenched John’s hand. John stopped stroking Mary’s arm and twisted in his seat. Dean exhaled slowly, like a pin prick in a deflating balloon, he couldn’t take any of it back. Dean took a chance and looked out through his lashes, face tilted towards his plate. First to Mary’s blue worry and then a flicker to John’s almost black disbelief.
John swallowed and ducked low enough to force Dean’s eyes onto his. "You tellin' me you take it up the ass, is that what you're sayin?"
"Jesus. John!" Mary reproached. But neither man's glare faltered. The dark challenge in John's eyes caused Dean's lips to turn up in a silent snarl.
Dean finally broke the silence. "You really want me to answer that?"
"I think I have a right to know exactly the kind of man my son is," John countered.
Mary stood abruptly. “He's your son! What's the matter with you?! You asking Sam his jerkin' habits now that he's single, while you're at it?!" She went to the sink, bowing over it as if it would cleanse the images the conversation had conjured.
“Oh, hell, that’s not the point,” John muttered.
Dean had been arrested in high school for drag racing. The whole ride home from the police station he was worried what his dad was gonna do to him once they got home, it was the same quiet rage that had terrified Dean as a child. But it was Mary’s disappointment when they walked in the door that tore into Dean to the point of scarring. He could live with his father’s anger, Sam had taught Dean how to slowly stand up to John over the years.
But Dean didn’t know if he could live in the shadow of Mary’s disappointment. He needed somebody to see him as himself, not just a screw up or a queer.
Dean sighed. "I am your son. But if you can't handle this, Dad. I don't think you have any right to know me anymore." He looked from Mary to John as the last sentence left his mouth. Maybe he was asking too much after all.
Everyone in the room froze. But not even an ultimatum like that could stop John Winchester from digging himself deeper. "Christ, son, Jo really did a number on you, didn't she? Made you turn tail to the other team all together."
"Leave Jo out of this,” Dean spit out as he stood up. “This is about me and who I'm with now." He stalked the long way around the table, shoving chairs in as he went. He approached Mary alone, carefully, one terrified animal to another. "You'd love him, Mom. He cooks, runs his own business, even got an old Harley in the garage."
Mary couldn't hide her tears, but she tried to smile through them for Dean's sake. "Sounds like a catch, sweetie. But what matters is if you love him. You don't need our say so."
"Don't I?" Dean replied sadly before glancing over Mary’s shoulder to John. "You know Jo told me to give you the finger if you couldn’t see how happy I am. How important Benny is to me. And maybe she's right. But I wanted this to work. I wanted to keep the family together. That's why I'm here. The rest is up to you, Old Man."
Dean kissed his mother on the cheek, between murmured reassurances and left without another word to John. He teetered on the brink, somewhere between busting his knuckles against the cold glass of the impala’s window and losing his lunch on the frostbitten ground. Somehow, Dean made it into the solitude of the driver’s seat before he broke down and sobbed. The only saving grace he got was when his mother's voice roared from inside the house.
Dean dragged the salt and snot from his face with a heavy palm and started the engine. He couldn't stay there, but he didn't know where to go either. He just drove.
Tumblr media
    Dean pulled into the parking lot at The Pearly Gates on autopilot. He’d spent the afternoon equally suppressing and dissecting his conversation with his parents as he kept it even between the lines of two lane country roads. Now, Dean was ready to be somebody else, to make drinks and flirt and just forget everything that had happened.
    The college football crowd was winding down, which allowed Dean some time to catch up with the day shift bartenders Garth and Jody. Back before Cas got blindsided with the responsibility of business ownership, Cas, Dean, Ash and Artie would claim a booth near the pool tables and blow their grocery money every weekend. When Sam moved back after law school he and Mick joined the crowd that were regularly praised for paying for Jody’s son’s braces.
    Garth had been the first dragged from the friend pool to fill the schedule when Cas’s brother dropped off the face of the earth. Though Garth volunteered, Dean knew it was just out of the goodness of his heart, not a need for extra cash.
    “Here he is!” Garth announced Dean’s arrival. Luckily for Dean, Garth was pouring a beer otherwise he would have been wrapped in one of Garth’s spider monkey-like hugs. A few regulars in the corner raised their glasses to Dean in greeting as he passed by with his company smile. Jody whipped by him, fresh out of the stock room with her arms full of their dollar bags of chips they sold to keep from having to run a full kitchen.
    “Look who’s early,” Jody exclaimed before dropping the load onto the back counter. “You trying to cut into my time there, Winchester?”
    “You know if you ever want more hours, you just gotta ask,” Dean offered suggestively, strolling behind the bar.
    Jody sputtered dramatically, “And work nights? No, thank you.”
    “It was worth a shot,” Dean replied, shrugging at Garth who knew better.
    Jody sighed and cocked her head. “You’re cute, but you’re not that cute.”
    Dean ducked his head against the compliment as she patted his arm apologetically.
    “Want me to split your tips before you go?” Dean asked, bending out of his jacket.
    “That’d be lovely,” Jody answered, sorting the chips by kind. “Garth get’s an extra twenty because Bess and Donna were ‘round.”
    “Look at you, Mr. Slick,” Dean teased as he grabbed the old milk bottle filled with mostly singles. Garth blushed.
    “You know what they say Dean-o, flattery is everything,” Garth explained. Dean, who routinely had the most tips out of any of the staff, including Bela, just nodded at the quirky dude. Dean doled out their shares and washed up before officially punching in.
    Jody was gone as soon as Anna arrived, but Garth waited for Jack to show before leaving her and Dean on their own. It was seven o’clock before Cas arrived instead of his unreliable nephew.
    “Everything alright?” Dean asked knowingly as Cas hung his trench coat on a broken notch on the rail beside the server’s station.
    “Jack is under the weather,” Cas explained blandly. Dean eyed the windows, taking in the light flurries that danced in the streetlight. “I guess I’ll have to do tonight.”
    It was a surprisingly unremarkable shift, the weather kept traffic bearable even after Anna’s shift ended at midnight. Dean walked her out the back to her car, like he always did as the plow eased out of the parking lot.
    “You gonna be alright with him for the rest of the night?” Anna whispered before they breached the cold. Her big brown eyes held more mischief than worry.
    “Goodnight, Anna,” Dean drew out as he held the door sternly.
    “Night, Dean,” Anna chuckled. Dean watched her tiptoe around the icy patches and make it to her old Tahoe. He made sure it started before heading back behind the bar, and three more hours with Castiel.
    The speakers were set lower than usual to balance their minimal customers. On his shifts, Dean had always insisted on having control over the musical selection. So when he walked into a pop singer’s version of mopey folk he did a double take before bee lining for the stereo.
    “Please, don’t,” Cas’s simply requested from somewhere to Dean’s right. “I kind of like this song, but more importantly one of the customer’s requested a change of station.”
    Dean eyed the patrons like suspects in a line up, uncertain who would blaspheme in such a way. No one seemed particularly guilty and he had to let it go. Between drinks, Dean washed glasses in the small sink behind the bar until Cas was finally able to start his nightly paperwork. The last couple paid their tab just after 1:30, leaving them holding their breaths in hope as they started to put up the chairs.
    “Is it often this quiet?” Cas wondered aloud, “I don’t recall Saturday’s business to dwindle so.”
    Dean smiled to himself; leave it to Cas to look a gift horse of a slow night in the mouth. “No, man, this is not the usual. But, it worked out. And thanks for filling in for the kid, I know you don’t like getting your hands dirty.”
    Cas quietly beamed at Dean’s gratitude before pausing at the not so subtle jab at the end. They went through the remaining end of day routine in silence. Dean turned off the faux neon signs in the windows to signal the early close as Cas handled the money. Dean would usually even out the till and split tips with Jack, leaving the deposit for Cas to handle the next day. Instead he was left with cleaning detail as the boss man did the accounting.
    Before long Dean was rolling the dirty mop bucket back to the office/store room/ kitchen/ employee area. Exhaustion had eaten at Dean’s internal walls, leaving him on the slippery edge between slap-happy and zombie. He hummed to keep his eyes open, waiting on Cas to finally call it a night and let Dean clock out.
    “We don’t talk anymore,” Cas said abruptly, without looking up from the cash machine. Dean’s head shot up, concern furrowing his features. “In fact, I’m prone to think you don’t like me at all, Dean.”
    “What do you mean, we’re talking right now,” Dean downplayed defensively. Cas glanced up over his desk, mild surprise evident. Cas always seemed such a mystery to Dean, from his social awkwardness to his blunt observations. Dean had come to envy Cas’s almost innocent lack of need to perform for others, to be anyone but himself. He had forgotten that Cas would read into his demeanor in the uncanniest of ways.
    “True, we are. But are we?” Cas typed the code into the safe and waited for the time delayed entry. “We used to hang out, watch football, play pool, or cards even.”
    “We’ve got bowling every week, man,” Dean wrung out the mophead and latched it onto the rack on the wall. He was trying to remember the last time he and Cas had fun, just the two of them and couldn’t recall a single occurrence over the past year.
    “I miss you. I miss my friend,” Cas replied sadly. “And I don’t know what I did to ruin it, but I want you to know that I didn’t mean to.”
    Dean closed his eyes and grimaced. “Hey, no, it’s not like that,” Dean started. He walked over and leaned against the edge of the desk, assertive reassurance written all over his face. “Look, I’m tired. Working all week and then coming here is kicking my ass. So I don’t have a lot of free time or brain capacity to hang out like we used to. But I’m doing my best, man.”
    Cas looked like a confused puppy, eyes drooping and head tilted. “That isn’t it. There’s something else, something you’re not telling me?”
    Dean huffed and shook his head, hands raised in exasperation. “I don’t know what you want me to say. I like you, okay? We’re still--- you know--- buddies.”
    “Buddies,” Cas said it like it was a war crime.
    “Yeah, man, friends. Do you need me to pull up a dictionary on my phone?!” Dean was getting anxious. He didn’t know what exactly had set Cas down this path of questioning, but he was certain he needed it to end. So much for a quiet night.
    After a few weighted stares, Cas squinted and turned them down a different path. “Did me employing you negatively affect our relationship? Should I not have asked that of you?”
    “Wait, that would have stopped you?” Dean asked, surprised by Cas’s sudden, if extremely late, realization.
    “I wouldn’t knowingly do anything to hurt our friendship, Dean. Has working here hindered you?” Cas asked apologetically.
    Dean’s mouth dropped open and his shoulders slumped. “Yeah, man. Working here--- everyone is great, don’t get me wrong--- but man I need a break. I wanted to help out here or there, but I’ve got no time for a life if I stay on.”
    “I see,” Cas sat back, poorly masking his own discomfort with Dean’s confession. “Look, I know I’m not the best at what I do. But I find it very hard to trust new people. Employees, especially, tend to let me down. I guess--- I guess I’ve relied on you for too long, Dean. I’m sorry if I’ve taken advantage.”
    Dean chuckled. “To be honest, I wouldn’t have minded if you had.”
    Missing the joke, Cas continued, “I am taking this conversation as your verbal resignation. I hope you will stay on for the customary two weeks time?”
    “You’re serious?” Dean asked, stunned.
    “You’re unhappy. I don’t want to cause you anymore grief,” Cas replied simply.
    “It wasn’t that bad, Cas.--- But, you gotta do something about Jack. Man up and light a fire under his ass, or just kick him to the curb until he’s ready to live up to the family business. You need to hire people who want to be here,” Dean offered.
    Cas nodded dejectedly. “I know, I just have an awful gauge for people’s reliability from a simple interview. And past employers rarely ‘spill the tea’ as Bela would say.”
    Dean giggled, but stopped himself once he saw the worry in Cas’ eyes. “Hey, what if somebody does the interviews for you? I bet Jody would weed out the bad seeds before their asses ever hit the bar stool.”
    Cas was surprised by that option. “That could work. She is very intimidating.”
    “Right?!” Dean exclaimed, feeling lighter than he had in a long time. “So, we’re really doing this? Two weeks and I’m out?”
    “Yes, Dean. You’ve done more than I should have asked of you.” Cas stood and extended his hand.
    Dean grabbed it and pulled Cas in for a hug, their bound hands stuck between them. “Thanks, man. But, I’m glad it worked out. It will work out. This is gonna be good.”
    “And we’ll---,” Cas asked as they broke apart.
    “We’ll still be friends. Hell, if I’m free maybe we can reclaim our old table every once in a while,” Dean offered, patting Cas’s shoulder. A genuine smile crept across Dean’s face for the first time all day.
    “I’d like that,” Cas admitted as the safe alerted his time was up.
Tumblr media
    The next morning, Sam held the door for Dean who was smirking as they walked in. Exhausted and needing the comfort of his favorite diner to fill his empty stomach, Dean agreed to Sunday breakfast with a seemingly none-the-wiser Sam, certain he'd be missing their weekly dinner with his parents for possibly the first time.
"Not that one. Let's see if there's a spot in the back," Sam muttered as Dean tried sitting in the first open booth he saw.
"What? Why?" Dean groaned, but straightened up and followed Sam passed the bustling counter.
Sam lifted his chin and motioned Dean to the second to last spot. Slightly annoyed, Dean threw himself onto the bench seat, only to have Sam slide beside him, caging him in.
"Glad you boys could make it," the all too familiar drawl of their father's voice greeted them from across the table.
Dean looked at Sam and cursed beneath his breath. Sam had the nerve to look guilty, but his puppy dog eyes didn't hold an ounce of potency now.
"Wow, Dad, I had no idea you'd be here. Funny coincidence, hey, Sammy?" Dean snarked.
"Shut up," Sam grumbled.
"I made him drag you here, Dean. So if you wanna be pissed, be pissed at me," John began. "I ordered your usuals, to give us some privacy. It seems we need to talk."

Traveling Soldier Part 5 -- Bucky Barnes x Reader
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 6
Every day you took Bucky to a different place in Brooklyn, trying to spark more memories. Each place had a memory tied to it, today’s was the river. So many days you, Bucky, and Steve would go swimming in the river and have picnics. Bucky kept asking where you were taking him, and all you could do was smirk and reply with a “You’ll see!”
Finally you made it to your favorite spot, and pulled Bucky to sit. “This feels familiar. It’s so peaceful here.” You looked over to him while you pulled your shoes off, “The three of us would come here for picnics all the time. We would swim in the spring and summer.” You looked over your shoulder to the tree behind you. “There used to be a rope swing there. You and Steve would almost break your necks every summer trying to see who could get closest to the other side.” Smiling you remembered the simpler times, when you would spend your days sitting on the bank digging your toes into the sand, watching the boys making fools of themselves. Bucky stood and walked to the tree. Watching him intently, you saw him rub his hand against the trunk of the tree. He looked up into the branches and saw the frayed rope. He sat back next to you, “Tell me more.” You stood and waded into the water, “Right about here, you and Steve tried to fight. I was so worried that one of you were going to drown. I don’t even remember what it was that you two were fighting over. Steve tried to tackle you, but you were so much bigger than him. You pushed each other down and you were both under the water. I had to come try to pull you apart.” You had waded out till the water was around your waist. “You coming?” Bucky stared at you from the bank and shook his head. You waded back to the bank, “Come on. It’s not that bad.” You grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the water. He sighed and stood. As he waded in, you noticed his eyes slightly glaze over. You held onto him, waiting for him to look at you. “Buck?” You whispered, worried. He shook his head, “Give me a minute.” He released your hand and swam to the opposite bank. You stood in the river, looking at him like he had lost his mind. He disappeared behind the trees, leaving you in the middle of the river. Sighing, you made your way back to the bank. Sinking to the ground, you dug your toes in the sand, just like you had when you three would come together. You propped yourself up on your arms and closed your eyes, losing yourself in thought. Water splashed your leg, and your eyes popped open. “Hey, come here.” You looked up at Bucky, shading your eyes from the sun. “I’m not swimming across that river.” Staring at you, he leant down and threw you over his shoulder. When you made it to the opposite shore, Bucky stood you up on the ground. “Now, come here. I want to show you something.” Placing your hand in his, you allowed him to lead you to a tree on the bank. “The last summer we were here, I came back here after I walked you and Steve home. I never thought the war would come here, I thought I would have more time..with you.” He pointed up the tree to a small carving. “I wanted us to have our own special spot for picnics. So I put our names in the tree, I remembered you saying how romantic you thought it was.” You looked up the tree, “Bucky and Y/n Barnes”. Slowly you looked back to him, “Y/n Barnes?” He pushed out a short breathy laugh and ran his fingers through his dark hair. “I guess I got ahead of myself, yea?” Smiling you looped your arm through his, “I don’t think so. Just hopeful.” Bucky turned you and pulled you against his chest, resting his chin on the top of your head. Inhaling deeply, you tried to memorize this sweet moment. He pressed a soft kiss to the top of your head and guided you towards home.
That night you laid on the couch, and watched as Bucky got his makeshift bed ready on the floor. “Hey Buck?” He propped up on his elbows and looked to you, “Yea?” “Are you adjusting okay? Is any of this helping?” He shot a half smile in your direction, “It’s helping most everything. The uh..the nightmares, I don’t think anything will help those.” Leaning over, you pressed a soft kiss to his cheek, “If you want to talk about them or anything, I’ll always be here.” Squeezing your hand he replied, “I know doll. Goodnight.”
You woke a few hours later to groans and soft yelling. Rubbing your eyes, you looked to the floor to see Bucky kicking the sheet off of him and punching at the air. “Buck? Bucky!” You slipped off the couch and onto the floor next to him. Dodging one of his punches, you scooted to sit at the top of his head. You played with his hair, hoping to ease him enough to wake him without causing him to panic. Slowly he began to calm, and you were able to make him wake up. “Bucky are you okay?” Your eyes were filled with worry as you helped him sit up. “I..I didn’t hurt you, did I?” You placed your hand on his, “No Buck. You didn’t answer my question. Are you okay? Do you need anything?” Continuing to stare into his blue eyes, which had turned stormy with the nightmare, you searched for emotion. “Maybe just some water?” You smiled as you got to your feet, “I’ll be right back.” When you returned, you saw him with his head in his hands. “Here Buck. Is there anything else? Anything that would make you more comfortable?” He downed the water quickly then looked to you. “Well..I mean I hate to ask..Do you think you might could lay with me? I know the floor isn’t very comfortable but—“ “Yes.” You had already grabbed your pillow and settled next to him before he could finish his thought. “Are you sure? I don’t want you to be uncomfortable.” You snuggled under his arm and placed one hand on his chest, “Anywhere you are is comfortable for me.” Softly kissing his lips you whispered, “I’ll be right next to you if you need me. Get some rest Buck.” Nodding, he laid back and wrapped his arms around you, bringing you closer to him.
The next few weeks, the two of you grew closer. Days were spent roaming the city, searching for old memories and making new ones. Your nights were spent curled up next to Bucky on the floor. You were able to transition him to the couch after a couple weeks, and eventually moved up to a stiff mattress that was placed on the floor in your bedroom. At lease once a week Bucky would go on a walk on his own, and would always bring back a bag of plums for himself and a bouquet of dahlias for you.
Bucky left this morning with his face deep in thought. He promised he'd be back around three that afternoon, so when five rolled around and he wasn’t back you began to worry. Hearing the rain pounding against the windows, you hoped that he was going to be home soon. You heard a sharp knock at the door, and you hurried over. When you opened the door, you saw Bucky soaked from head to toe, carrying a bag of plums and a drooping bouquet of dahlias. “Oh my gosh are you okay?! Where have you been?!” You frantically yanked him through the door frame and pushed him towards the bathroom. “Stop.” You froze, hearing the serious tone in his voice, and you turned to look at him. “Bucky you are soaking wet, and probably freezing. You need to get out of those clothes and take a warm bath.” The plums and flowers hit the floor as he closed the gap between the two of you. “B…Buck?” You stuttered, fearing that the Winter Soldier was back, and your Bucky was gone. Sensing your fear and worry, Bucky froze. “It’s me. I swear. I had to take a longer walk today. I needed to gain some confidence, I didn’t realize it would take so long. Or come off so..scary.” Puzzled you stared at him, “Confidence? For what?” Bucky smirked and pulled you flush with his body. Your breath hitched as he kissed down your neck, “For this.” A small moan escaped your lips as Bucky nipped at your neck. “Y..you really need to get out of those wet clothes Buck.” “I’ll get out of these wet clothes and take that warm bath if you do the same with me.” Your eyes went wide, surprised that he was being so forward. “Are you sure?” You didn’t know if he was even able to hear your whisper. He pulled away from you long enough to search your eyes to see if you were okay with what was happening. “Yes. I’m sure. Please?” Smiling you stepped to the bathroom to run the water.
You heard the door squeak open, and looked up to see Bucky. A small gasp made its way out, and you took in the six foot tall man standing in front of you. You wanted to look away, afraid that you shouldn't be staring, but you weren't able to look away from his beautiful body. Your eyes made their way to his face to see him smirking as he made his way to you. “Your turn.” He pulled you to your feet and began to peel your clothes off of you. He pulled you into his chest and brushed your hair away from the side of your face, “You are so beautiful.” You shuddered as he whispered in your ear, then pulled you into the tub after him. You settled between his legs, your back against his chest. Tilting your head back, you looked up at him. His head was laid back, a small smile plastered on his face, and his eyes were closed. You smiled at how content he looked. The two of you sat in silence until the water began turning cold. Bucky raised up and wrapped his arms around you and rested his face in your neck. “Could we stay like this forever?” You turned your head slightly to see his face, “In the tub or just…like this?” He kissed your forehead, “Just like this. Together. Happy. No fighting, no running, just..peaceful.” You smiled as you stepped out of the cold water and wrapped your body in a towel. “We can try Buck. Come to bed?” He stood, wrapping his lower half in a towel and following you to the bedroom. “Try?” “Well sweetheart, you’re going to have to go see Steve at some point, and you never know what’s going to happen with him.” You snuggled up to Bucky, eyes heavy. “Let’s get it over with then. Tomorrow?” “Mmmmm…..Sounds good Buck.” Bucky lightly kissed your lips, “Goodnight doll.” He looked down at you, eyes closed already, and smiled.

Goodnight and Go
Tumblr media
Something quick I thought of inspired by “goodnight no’ go” by Ariana Grande. Hope you guys like it☺️!
Pairing: handyman!Chris EvansxBlack Reader
⚠️: Mentions of drinking, brief mention of an injury/blood, fluff💕!
Tell me why you gotta look at me that way
You know what it does to me
So baby, what you tryna say?
Lately, all I want is you on top of me
You know where your hands should be
So baby, won't you come show me?
Chris: You have enough water right? And food in case the storm gets too bad?
Y/N: Yes dad I have everything I need lol
Chris: Smh the thanks I get for caring😤
Y/N: Aww you really do love me🥰!
Chris: ....go to bed Y/N lol
Y/N: What about you? If you need anything I can share
Y/N: You don’t have any jobs tonight right?
Chris: I’m fine, but thanks for the offer😊 and just one. It shouldn’t take long though
Chris: Aww is someone worried about me??😏
Y/N: 🙄 No...I just didn’t want you to be out in the middle of all the snow and get stuck somewhere then I’m left trying to dig you out
Chris: That sounds like you were worried 😉
Y/N: 😑 I’m going to bed now, goodnight sir lol
Chris: Lol goodnight. I’ll check on you tomorrow💙
Reading the message one last time before tucking your phone under your pillow, you softly smile imagining the way his pink lips were probably curled into a smirk with his teasing and little jokes. And how his voice tended to drop a couple steps above a whisper whenever he told you goodnight, leaving you flustered with tingles spreading over your body.
Oh, why'd you have to be so cute?
It's impossible to ignore you,
Why must you make me laugh so much?
It's bad enough we get along so well
Things had been this way for a while now. Specifically since college.
Although you knew each other in high school, due to him and your older brother being best friends, it wasn’t until college that you both started this unspoken “flirtationship”. You could go back and forth all day, but still neither of you would make the first move. Lately though, you could feel yourself inching closer and closer to finally taking that risk.
However, the thought of you two just being something fun to him and nothing more quickly halted your progress making your stomach queasy. You knew he wasn’t a player and had seen up close how sweet and caring he was, not wanting to hurt anyone, but still what if he didn’t want anything serious right now or to be tied down?
Before your anxious thoughts could take over, you force your eyes shut burying your face into your pillow with a sigh, letting the howling wind brushing against your window drift you off to sleep.
One of these days
You'll miss your train and come stay with me
(It's always say goodnight and go)
We'll have drinks and talk about things
And any excuse to stay awake with you
And you'd sleep here, I'd sleep there
But then the heating may be down again
(At my convenience)
We'd be good, we'd be great together
Knees up to your chest and comforter pulled as close as possible to your chin, your shivers make it impossible to go back to sleep. You could’ve sworn you turned the heater on before getting in bed, and even double checked.
So why did it feel like you were trapped in a meat locker?
Padding across the cold carpeted floor with your purple comforter tightly wrapped around your body, you find your thermostat indeed set to 75 and heat, but the temperature inside reading 57 degrees.
“You’ve gotta be kidding me,” you say to yourself pressing the arrows up and down to see if anything would happen. Unfortunately, it remained unmoved showing you that your thermostat was definitely broken.
Rushing back to your bed before your feet could freeze anymore, you recover your phone from its hiding place quickly pressing Chris’ number.
“Yea?,” he asks, voice laced with sleep making you feel guilty for waking him.
“Oh, uh sorry I didn’t mean to wake you.”
“It’s okay, don’t apologize. Everything alright?”
“Um well my thermostat is broken and it’s freezing. But if you can’t make it till the morning-,”
“No I’ll be over in a few, just sit tight,” he yawns. You can hear the phone shift against his ear as he moves about collecting his things.
“You sure? It’s one a.m. and I know you’re probably tired.”
“Y/N it’s fine, plus you just live down the hall it’s nothing for me to come by and look,” he chuckles.
“Alright see you in a few.”
Within the next minute, he was at your door in his navy blue sweatpants and plain grey long sleeve shirt that seemingly clung to every muscle of his arms and chest with his toolbox in hand. If it wasn’t for the unbearable cold and your involuntary shivering, the sight would’ve had more of an effect of you than it currently did.
“Well, good news is that it’s an easy fix,” he speaks placing the wires back inside before screwing the cover back on the thermostat. “Bad news is I need to get the piece you need from the store which won’t be open until the morning. That is if they can with all the snow.”
“So basically I’m stuck being a popsicle for the night.”
“If you want to stay, yea. Or you can stay at my place. Unless you’re not comfortable with that then I completely understand.”
“Chris I’ve known you forever, and honestly would choose you to share a room with over my own brother,” you answer quickly getting your phone and keys before putting on your slides.
“Really?,” he asks amused.
“Yea. I know you won’t try to stick anything in my ear or mess with me somehow while I’m sleeping. Unless you’re now thinking of doing said things, which in that case I have no problem sleeping in my car.”
“Wouldn’t even dream of it sweetheart.” His deep chuckle as he wraps an arm around your shoulders rubbing up and down your arm trying to warm you bring back those familiar tingles as he leads you down the quiet hall to his apartment.
Entering the familiar space, you instantly sigh as your body begins to thaw in the warmth of his apartment. His body leaving your side to grab the couple throw blankets he had draped over his couch brings a sudden chill, making you hope he’d come back soon.
Wrapping both blankets around you, his arms bring you into his broad chest as close as possible tightly, but comfortably, trapping you in a hug.
“Better?,” he asks, head resting on top of yours while his large palm moves back and forth on your back.
“Mhm, thanks.”
“No problem.”
Standing there breathing in his faint woodsy scent still lingering after being worn all day, it’s the most comfortable you’ve been all night.
Well, looking past the current ache in your legs beginning to set in that is.
“Chris?”
“Hmm?”
“Although this is nice, my legs are starting to go numb,” you softly giggle watching as he pulled away with light red cheeks.
“Oh right, sorry. Um you can take the bed, I’ll stay out here,” he answers moving towards his couch.
“I’m not kicking you out of your own bed, just come on we can share. It’s not like we haven’t before.”
“That was an accident though, and on your part,” he smirks.
“No, it was actually you who ended up in the wrong room. Figures you don’t remember correctly since you were a bit under the influence,” you smirk back making him shake his head.
In truth, both of you were a bit drunk. Not enough to completely forget the entire night, but enough that any and everything was hilariously funny and sentences were a little difficult to get out clearly. What started with the two of you trying to watch a movie in your brother’s guest bedroom, turned into both of you knocking out in the middle of your conversation having not even pressed play.
A couple hours passed before his blue eyes peaked through his lids. He couldn’t stop the sleepy smile that crept on his lips noting how yours lied pouted against the pillow and nostrils would occasionally flare in the most adorable way from your breathing. He didn’t mean to stare, but how you could look so perfect while sleeping just made him want to hold you closer.
“Now that I think about it, all this isn’t some plan to get me in bed is it?,” he jokes sliding into his king sized bed at the same time as you.
“Wow, you caught me. I messed up my own thermostat nearly giving myself hypothermia just so I could get to you and these striped sheets. Gee, you’re better than Sherlock Holmes,” you retort sarcastically as his head falls back in laughter. Gathering your half of the sheets around you, you lie on the blue pillow gazing at Chris fluffing his before lying down as well.
“You still have it.”
“Have what?”
Taking his hand in yours, his eyebrow rises and heartbeat quickens watching you extend his arm to trace over the discolored scar still near the fold of his arm.
You could vividly remember that night as if it happened minutes ago. Him attempting a keg stand with your brother holding his legs while cheering him on, along with everyone else watching, before ultimately falling awkwardly. Somehow his arm hit the nozzle leaving a gash that oozed blood, and you trying your best to dress his wound using tape and bunches of toilet tissue in the host’s bathroom.
“Oh that,” he smiles as your thumb continues to graze over the spot. “It’s my little reminder.”
“To make sure your spotter has a good grip next time?,” you ask making him chuckle.
“That...and other stuff. Like how it’s nice to have someone there for you.”
Feeling him shift closer to you, you look up to meet his eyes gazing at you in a way you’d never experienced from him before. The usual softness was there, but as his lips curled into that adorable, heart melting tired smile, admiration seemed to be there as well. Something similar to watching the sunset and the sky transition from blue to the lightest shades of pink and purple.
“And that not all dumb decisions end in disaster,” he adds in a husky whisper.
Know you're thinking' 'bout it, baby, just one kiss
While you're lookin' at 'em, baby, read my lips
“It would’ve been nice for you to realize that before we had to play ER,” you whisper back.
“Then what would’ve been the fun in that?,” he smirks. “Plus deep down, I think you like always being there with the bandaid for us...or one of us at least.”
You’re not really sure which one of you leans in first, but soon your lips are connected moving in perfect sync. His thumb runs back and forth against your cheek bone as you cling to his shirt closing the remaining gap between you. Finally pausing for air, you stay close lifting your finger to trace his now swollen lips.
“There might be a teeny, tiny possibility you’re right,” you smile before feeling his lips on yours again.

It takes time/2
Pairing: jinxreader (future btsXreader)
Warnings: none I think?
Gene: angst? Soft really. Eventual smut in the future?
Summary: after finally getting the house y/n always wanted, she find a hybrid hiding in an old shed. Unlike most people who find strays, y/n doesn’t turn him into h.c mainly because there was a lot of shady things that happened with the hybrid control in the area.
Prev
——————————————————————————
Jin was sitting on the couch enjoying another episode of friends, while I was in the kitchen preparing a quick dinner for us. It had been almost a whole month since I found him in my shed and moved in. Jin was amazing company, always trying to crack some dad type jokes any chance he got. Never failed to make me laugh until I cry! His legs had healed rather nicely and soon he will be okay to go on his own again.
As I got our plate made, I went to carry them into the living... I dropped the plates!
Jin shot up from the couch to see what had happened “oh shit” he said the grizzly bear eyes locked with him then turned towards me and growled as it moved to the door. Did I lock the door?? I moved closer to jin just in case the bear decided to come through the window.
About the time I made it to Jin’s side, the bear had busted the door opened. I squeaked and went to grab Jin to run but he held on to me and wouldn’t even budge!
“Jin what are you doing?! We have to run!” I shouted. Jin said nothing but pushed me slightly behind him. “Jin?” I asked. His eyes were focused on the bear as it walking in. “Namjoon?” He breathed.
I looked between him and the bear “you know this bear?” The bear... or namjoon apparently, growled making me jump. “Namjoon listen, she isn’t a threat! Would you change back so we can talk” Jin said flatly. The bear eyes me for a second then started to change. I stood in shock watching the bear as its bones began to snap and sounded like it was breaking. I covered my ear. This is not a pleasant sound. About half way through I noticed him turning into a human…a naked human. So, I jumped and hide behind Jin, placing my forehead on his back to make sure I saw nothing. I felt Jin stiffen but didn’t look up.
Missing him peaking over his shoulder then smiled slightly.
Focusing back on namjoon in full human form Jin clicked his tongue. “You just had to change in the most dramatic fashion” I could head namjoon lowly laugh. “So, this is where you have been?” He growled the last part. “Yes, and before you try to bite my head off let me explain why.” Jin rushed to say. “Oh please. do. jin. I would love to hear why after a month of the pack searching for you, I find you. Here in a humans house looking like a well feed pet.” I could feel how mad he was as he spoke…he didn’t like human at all, I’d take it. “And why does she hide behind you? Don’t human love to look at our bodies?” I could hear the smirk in his voice “um the said human. doesn't. "I pointed out. “She not like the others we have meet, she helped me.” I could hear namjoon take a step closer. “She probably helped you to get you to become her pretty little pet then use you. Just like all the other ones you thought was good jin.”
I tugged on jin shirt and looked straight up to see him looking over his shoulder. “Um, I think you guys need a minute alone to talk about things, and he clearly doesn’t like my presence here so…” Jin smiled “that would be very helpful.” I smiled and blushed “would you mind walking backwards until I get to the hallway?” Jin laughed and started to walk backwards until we got to the corner. “Okay, have a nice chat!” I darted to my room and shut the door. I could definitely tell namjoon was an intimidating person. My heart was still racing.
Jin made sure y/n made it into her room before he moved back. Namjoon, watching the whole thing was amused. “See, she didn’t want to see your lanky ass naked” Jin smiled. Namjoon stiffen “now explain why you are here and have not made it back to the pack?” Jin signed and started to explain all that had happened.
Namjoon was furious that jin had gotten injured. But they all knew the risk of him going into the town. This was bound to happen. “So now we going to have to move to another place, seeing how you can’t just walk in there anymore.” Namjoon rubbing his temple “and she just found you in the shed?” Jin nodded. “Yes, instead of calling on me, she got a med-kit to help me out, and offered me to stay here until I was okay to go back on my way.” Namjoon sighed and glared “I still don’t trust her, Jin. And you need to come home, so we can figure out where to go next.” Jin looked down. He honestly didn’t want to leave, he like y/n. Her scent was comforting and soothing…...
Jin eyes shot up to meet Joon. “You know, you calmed down pretty quickly, when you came inside.” Namjoon stiffen. “So? I was just happy to have found you alive.” Jin shook his head. “No last time you found me with a human you had me by the throat and almost ate the human”
“That human was going to sell you on the black market, Jin. They had the mark on their arm that you so failed to noticed.” Namjoon crosses his arms. Jin smirked. “But You didn’t even get a good look at y/n. So? Why didn’t you come in ready to fight like before?”
Namjoon arms fell to his side. Why hadn’t he done it? The moment he had seen Jin from the woods, threw the window he was furious and seeing red. The closer he got; he notices her in the kitchen. He was so ready to bust threw the window and attack her. But when he got closer, the scent of vanilla and teakwood drifted from the house. It was enticing and calming. He shook his head before getting closer. When he had entered the house, he was surrounded by the scent. Even with him being so angry, the scent…. he wanted to Bury his nose in it…that was until he realized it was her.
She was where the delicious scent was coming from. He was even more angry that a human would do this to him. “Her scent calms you, doesn’t it? Just like it did me? Similar to the packs?” Namjoon shock his head. “We cannot trust her!” Namjoon yelled “you don’t know her? You think she would just help you without wanting something? Now let’s go home jin.” Jin sighed “okay, let me tell her I’m leaving.”
A soft knock from the door woke me from my thoughts. I could hear namjoon yelling about them needing to leave and how he doesn’t trust me. I get it, he doesn’t know me, and most people do treat them like shit. So, I understood why he was the way he was. People are shit.
Jin slowly opened the door. “Y/N?” I smiled and got off my bed. “You’re leaving, aren’t you?” He scratched the back of his head “yea.” I smiled and went to hug him “I’m Glad you get to go back to your family. It was nice to meet you jin.” Jin wrapped his arms around me and pressed his face into my neck. He stayed there for a few second then rubbed his nose across my neck.
My heart started to race; I know it’s a natural thing for them to do. But with his plush lips so close to my skin, I felt like I was on fire. Jin standing back up. “Thank you, Y/n, for what you have done. Maybe one day we will see each other again” he smiled softly and I looked down trying to hide the blush on my cheeks “hopefully.” He turned to head out.
I followed him out, as I rounded the corner, I locked eyes for the first time with namjoon who was by the back door. Neither of us moved until I realized he was still naked “oh my!” I turned around “I’m sorry, uh…. I was just going to lock up after you left...” I was blushing hard core. The man was fit. Jin snickered “can you like turn back into the bear before you give her a heart attack” I could hear namjoon scruff, pretty sure he rolled his eyes. “Whatever let's go” I heard the door shut before I turned around. As I watch namjoon, who was a bear again, and Jin disappear into the forest. I waved good bye one last time to jin.
It wasn’t even an hour with me on the couch that I started to feel lonely. I sighed. I guess I should clean up the dinner mess. As I got up and noticed the mess was already cleaned up… did jin do this? While he was talking to namjoon?

How about gordon comforting borrower! Benery after something scary happened? -HLVRAHigh 💖
alright here u goh! takes place a lil bit in the future of my fic :V
He was still getting used to knowing he had roommates, specially roommates he had just only found out about four months ago living with him. Since then everyday felt like he was learning a dozen or so more rules or facts about his new tiny group of...friends?
Tommy and Coomer were always more than happy to inform him about new things he was clueless about, and in return he did the same for anything they didn’t know that he did. He found out Coomer could access his computer with a level of ease he considered concerning...until he found out all Coomer liked to do was get lost in the endless holes of information that Wikipedia offered, along with some various cooking videos on youtube. Tommy would sometimes sit with him and read along on the screen, it was kinda cute watching the tiny pair sit on his wrist rest and scroll for a few hours.
Bubby strangely would only come over to join the mini group when cooking was the subject..He seemed to only calm down when watching someone make some sort of dish...and of course when Coomer was beside him. Gordon found out after several scorching trial and errors that Coomer was a expert at getting Bubby to calm down and not set fires out of rage or stress. But he had been noticing lately even without Coomers help the mini firestorms had gone down considerably, for which he was ultimately thankful for.
Though...Gordon had taken notice that whenever he was in the kitchen, Bubby somehow always happened to be nearby to watch and sometimes give a few tips from the counter, and his few bad attempts never seemed to get too burned to warrant throwing out nowadays. Maybe sometime soon he ask Bubby officially to help him cook something for everyone.
Benry though...he was very strange to figure out at first. The others had fled being seen by him for weeks aside from him. Benry had come out the moment the so called “jig” was up and started talking with him for hours on end...And despite all that talking Gordon still had little to no idea what the tiny borrower was about. The “sweet voice” he did most of the time, while very pretty to watch float around his head, was just as strange.. He had asked Tommy from time to time to translate when he found out the other borrower seemed to know inherently what the colors translated to and would happily lend a hand in the form of some honestly cute little rhyme to make it easier to remember for them both. Eventually Gordon got the idea after a few weeks of this and started to slowly map out Benrys feelings throughout the days when the sweet voice was more present than his actual voice.
Today was one of those days, Gordon had woken up to the sounds of heavy rain and after a quick look to the weather channel saw it’d be like this most of the day with possible chances of thunderstorms. He personally liked when the heavy storms rolled through, the town really needed it after the dry spell it’s been having for the last few months or so. The resulting day was a sleepy one at best, Gordon setting up a slow cooker of his favorite soup to dig into when it was time to eat with everyone.
Until then he sat on the couch with some snacks and caught up on some shows he had been prompted into watching by his tiny group, knowing they’d all be out and about soon enough, he could already hear Coomer and Bubby on his computer. Tommy was likely with Sunny....or Sunkist as Tommy had renamed her these days.. It didn’t take long for him to feel a tiny weight settle itself on his right shoulder and a even tinyer yawn to reach his ears.
“Sup Gordo....sleepy day today? Fuckin...lofi chill rainstorms to sleep to man..”
“Mornin Benry, and yeah seems like today’s a sleepy one. Weather forecast says its gonna rain all day today.”
“Mhm...niiice, cosy bro mode today..”
“Pfft, you sound like you’re about to pass out on me Benry, didn’t you just wake up?”
“Maybe....? Not my fault big bro Gordo gotta be all fuckin warm n cosy. S’fuckin cheating..”
Gordon couldn’t help but chuckle at that last very tired sounding quip and glanced down at the borrower in question. Benry was splayed out almost like a cat on his broad shoulder sucking up his residual body heat, only to be jostled a bit by his laughter.
“C’mon dude get down from there, I don’t wanna knock you off on accident or something.”
“Mmm maybe later, comfy here just fine bro, won’t fall off I got like..excellent climber hacks trust me.”
“Alright then, but I’ll warn you when I feel like movin or something.”
“Hell yea man no worries here. Your lil buddy Benry’s got it all on lockdown.”
Gordon let out another laugh before they both settled down to watch whatever show he had picked out.
----
A few hours had passed in relative comfortable silence amidst the rain, the soft background noise making Gordon a tad bit sleepy even now when it hit. A bright flash lit up the somber gray world for a brief second, just long enough to rouse him into a bit more of a alert state when the second half came.
It sounded like a gunshot had gone off, the thunder rolling loud enough to rattle the windows with its concussive force. From his computer he could hear Bubby let out a surprised series of curses followed by what he could assume was Coomer rattling off the wikipedia article on thunderstorms. So far so good right?
He heard a soft but tinny noise sound off beside him, or rather next to his head before another crack of thunder sounded off and made the lights flicker briefly with the charge.
“Jesus hell, guess this is quite the storm huh Benry? ......Benry?”
He looked to where the sleepy borrower should of been laying...only to find him missing entirely, and instead felt something..or hopefully someone clutching the side of his neck in a surprising death grip.
“Benry..? You alright down there? You uh...kinda gripping the living hell out of my neck there dude...Something wrong?”
That same tinny noise kicked off again and Gordon could see some small orbs float up...they looked alot like..rancid beer? He sat there for a moment and let the rhyme come to him given Benry’s reaction and refusal to talk or let go of him..
“Color like rancid beer...means acute fear? Benry lil bro..are you scared right now?”
He placed a hand against the spot he felt Benry clutching at him and felt the briefest nods against his fingers. Shit if it was loud to him then it must be outright deafening for someone like Benry and the others...though it seemed like Benry was the only one being affected right now.
Gordon let out a slow sigh and tried to gently ease Benrys death grip on his neck with both hands.
“It’s all good Benry, I’m here I gotcha..c’mon dude it’s fine I won’t let anything happen to you okay?”
Slowly he felt the grip lessen until he felt the weight shift slowly into his awaiting hands. Cupping them gently he moved to bring Benry up to face him and opened his hands. Inside was a clearly frightened borrower..Gordon felt a pang of saddness seeing that expression on the usually chill borrowers face. So instead he offered a warm smile and shifted to lay down on the couch, grabbing the blanket pooled around his lap in the process.
“It’s alright man, thunderstorms scare me too sometimes, y’know? They scared the hell outta me in college for years. But I learned about it and I slowly stopped being afraid..”
“...s’loud...wish the sky would shut its fuck..”
“Yeah it’s really loud..might mean it’s right on top of us..but I think it’ll move soon..wanna know a secret on how to tell its going away?”
“...tips and tricks from...big Gordos book of hacks? ..okay.”
Gordon snorts softly and lays his head against the far armrest of the couch and gently deposits Benry on his chest before adjusting the blanket over them both, Gordon seeing the soft blue glow of Benrys little eyes staring up at him as he got settled and placed a hand behind him for bonus warmth and protection..It seemed to do the trick as those vivid blues dulled to a soft sky blue and he felt Benrey sag against his chest after a few moments.
“When you see the lightening you count a few seconds..and when the thunder hits, that’s how many miles the storm is..the longer the pause means the farther away its getting..If you want I can show you and let you know how far or close the storm is.”
“....okay, sounds fucky but big science Gordo gotta know the good science..”
Gordon waited for a moment or two for the next flash and mentally counted down the seconds until the thunder sounded out...it was only a few seconds but it was already moving out by the sounds of things..possibly down the valley like most other storms did.
He relayed the message to Benry and saw that he did perk up a bit at the news.
“If you want, you can stay in there and I’ll tell you when its moving away, alright?”
“Mhm...sounds good to me man..”
What Gordon didn’t know though was that Benry had already nearly forgotten the storm thanks to a new sound overtaking the noise itself... Gordon had unknowingly placed him over his heart, or close enough to it that Benry could hear it as he laid against the other.. Coupled with the heat radiating off the giant human and darkness he felt...safer. He knew Tommy was going to rag on him later but..he felt nice being like this with the human. He might of had a little crush on the human and relished being close to him whenever he could. He was terrified of storms, the noise hurt his ears like hell and reminded him of...not so epic times..But thankfully Gordon pushed all those thoughts away and now he was here and safe.
It was all just enough to make him wanna sleep, he was warm and certainly cosy enough. Letting out a yawn he let those fail ass thoughts drift away as he looked up at Gordons smiling face and felt his own heat up a bit..Yeah he could sleep knowing someone like that was nearby.
“Gettin sleepy already Benry?”
“...maybe, wake lil Benny bro for supper please?”
“Pffft, yeah alright, I’ll let you know when it’s time to eat..get some rest Benry”
“M’kay boss, you got it.”
Benry smiled and mouthed something else privately before letting the slow thrum of Gordons heart and heat lead him into dreamland. Gordon being the comfortable man he was..accidentally nodded off as well shortly after.
Bubby woke them both up by threatening to burn Gordons beard off a few hours later. But for once the malice was not present in his voice.

The One With The Fight - Chandler Bing x Male!Reader - FRIENDS
Tumblr media
Fandom: FRIENDS (1994-2004)
Pairing: Chandler Bing x Male!Reader
Warnings: Spoilers For Season 2 Episode 21,
Notes:  Okay, Listen, At Least I’m Giving You Guys SOMETHING, Here!
You walked down the sidewalk and over to Central Perk, the only thing in mind being your need for coffee. You reached the coffee house and were about to go inside, when you noticed something- or, some people, more like.
Two guys with Ross, and your boyfriend, Chandler in the middle of the street.
You furrowed your eyebrows, sticking to the red brick wall of the building beside Central Perk, watching as crowds started to form, pointing and mumbling at the four men. “The hell is he doing-?" You mumbled, only then realizing their fighting stances. Jeez, someone took Street Fighter a little too seriously.
"Alright, come on, man! Let's do this, already!" One of the men, wearing a blue denim coat, exclaimed.
"Before I forget, are we hitting faces?" Ross asked, raising a finger, Chandler and him exiting their previous fighting stances. If he knew you were there, he would've seen you roll your eyes at the fact that he was asking this right before a fight.
The other man, wearing a leather coat, spoke up. “Of course we're hitting faces! Why wouldn't you hitting faces?" He asked.
"Well, because I have to work on Monday. I have a big presentation." There goes Ross, and the weird way he says 'presentation'.
You cringed just by hearing him say it.
The denim coat guy spoke up, turning to his friend. “You know, I got to show this apartment, tomorrow. And, y'know, this whole no-faces thing might not be a bad idea.”
"...Okay," the second guy spoke up again, "nothing from the neck up.”
"Alright" Ross nodded, the four of them resuming their fighting stances.
"Or the waist down-" he spoke up again. When the denim guy looked at him, he said "Dana's ovulating" having the denim guy smile and ask "oh, really? You guys trying again?", Leather coat guy giving a shy "yea.”
"God, no neck up or waist down? What kind of weak fight IS this?" You muttered, crossing your arms. “Strictly the middle part?"
Chandler made Ross turn to face him. So let me just get this straight- so we're, uh, strictly talking about the middle?"
You smiled a Chandler saying the same thing you did, but it got cut off when the guy in the leather coat shoved Ross with a come on!", Ross yelling a "hey!" back.
The four of them regained their fighting stances again, Ross yelling "you want some of this, huh?" as Chandler jumped a little. “You want a piece of this, huh? I'm standing here!"
As Ross was yelling, Chandler finally caught sight of you. “(Y/n)?" He wheezed, eyes going wide.
You pursed your lips, giving him a slight wave. “Chandler" you returned, chuckling. “Got yourself in quite the situation, baby" you grinned, glancing at the two strangers.
"W- I'm- they're bullies!" Chandler pouted.
"'Bullies'? Chandler, you're full grown men. We call them 'dickbags' now" you snorted, tilting your head.
Chandler glanced at Ross and back to you, shrugging. “Aren't you gonna come help us, (Y/n/n)?" He asked, groaning when you replied with "three against one isn't all that fair, Channy.” He then noticed two guys sneaking their hands onto a hat behind the two guys Ross and him were about to fight.
Wait, is that Chandler's hat?
"Hey, hey!" Chandler regained the three guys' attention, pointing at the two thieves by you. “Those guys are taking our stuff!" He yelled, a hand on Ross' shoulder.
"Where?" Ross called, nodding at you, then seeing the two men rush by you.
"Get out of the way, look out!" The man in the denim coat yelled, leading his friend, Ross, and Chandler in a chase after the two thieves.
You grabbed Chandler's hand right as he passed, following them in a run.
"(Y/n), what-?"
"What? And just let them take your hat? No way, honey" you scoffed, tugging him to speed up. You followed the men down the street, letting go of Chandler's hand so that you could push your hair out of your face.
Chandler was more focused on running, so he didn't see the jump rope he was about to trip over.
"Chandler, watch out!" You called, but it was too late. You watched as Chandler tripped over a little girls jump rope, stopping by him immediately. “Chandler, oh my god-" you panted, kneeling down.
"Go, go get 'em" Chandler coughed, weakly turning to look at you as he lay on the pavement."Go on, baby. Go kick their asses and get my kets.”
You exhaled, nodding and speeding after the men, past the two guys with Ross and grabbing the back collar of one of the thieve's shirt.
The sudden half stopped the second thief, giving that enough time for Ross to knock him in the face.
You grunted, bringing a clean swing to the guy you had a hold on. You grabbed the hat when he dropped it, kicking him in his legs and punching him across the face again. You turned to the one Ross got, kicking him in the stomach.
"Nice shots, (Y/n)" Ross panted, turning to you.
You panted, watching as the two guys finished the thieves off. “Thanks. Lets go get Chandler.”
***
You walked at Chandler's side as he lead the five of you into Central Perk, gently touching his lip to see if he was bleeding
"God! That was- that was amazing, that was incredible! You guys- you guys kicked butt" Ross praised, sitting on the couch.
"Us? What about you guys?" The guy in the denim coat asked, lightly punching your shoulder. “Your mysterious friend here really had that first guy's ass. Man, you really gave it to ol' mister clean back there, he was a big guy.”
You nodded smiling softly s you helped Chandler sit down.
"Yea, he was, wasn't he?" Ross asked, turning to Chandler.
Chandler smiled mockingly. “Yea, I wouldn't know, having missed everything, like my boyfriend kicking ass for me" he hissed, holding your hand. Chandler glanced up at you, "thanks again, for stepping in, by the way.”
You smiled down at him, "I'd fight anyone in the world for you. And don't be so hard on yourself, any one of you guys could've tripped over that little girl's jump rope.”
The guy in the leather coat turned to you, then the guy in the denim coat did the same."Wait, so you wouldn't-" "hold on, your boyfriend?"
You raised your eyebrows, holding one of Chandler's hands in both of yours. “I'm very coordinated, or so I've been told. And yes, boyfriend. Is there a problem with that?" You asked, gaze turning cold. You tilted your head as the two men shook their heads, looking scared of what you'd do to them. You smiled, "good.”
"So, listen, are we...?" Ross turned to the two men in coats. “Guys, are we, uh, are we okay here?"
"Oh, they better be okay, there. I just whooped a guys ass for all your keys and jewelry in Chandler's hat" you scoffed, bring his hand to your lips for a quick kiss, catching Chandler's smile on his face when you did.
The man in the leather nodded, as did the man in the denim. “We're okay" the latter told, Ross mumbling "alright.”
Chandler forced a chuckle, "okay, so can I have my hat back?"
After a couple beats of silence, the man in the denim said "no", shaking his head.
"Huh," Chandler nodded, turning away. In a flash, he was out of his seat, grabbed his hat off the man's head and ran behind the couch, but fell.
You jumped up and went around to check on him. “Idiot" you sighed lovingly, getting on top of him and hoisting him up by his shoulders. “Hey, Ross, help me bring Chandler back up?"
***
"Look at her" Phoebe said, all seven of you turning your attention to Monica in a costume behind the counter of the diner she worked at.
"Hi, Monica!" Chandler chirped, having you giggle and lightly shove him. He had a window seat and you sat beside him with his arm around you, Joey beside you and Rachel, Ross and Phoebe across from you.
Monica looked up, with her fake, pink glasses and puffy, blonde wig. Her jaw dropped when she saw all of you, and you saw her groan in embarrassment.
"Hey, nice boobs!" Phoebe called, as the rest of you waved at her.
"Guys, guys, check this out" Chandler whispered, turning to the napkin holders. He input a coin at the top, and pressed one of the buttons on the bottom, swinging his head back over to the counter when the familiar beginning of YMCA start playing.
"Oh my god-" you cackled, turning to look for Monica through the legs of the other workers, who were all up on the counter, already starting to dance. Chandler, you, and the others all smiled and started nodding to the beat, Chandler's grip around you pulling you closer to himself. You laughed with the other when Monica got up at the end of the counter and danced in a mediocre fashion, which was worth it because of the ringing of a beautiful sound in your ears- Chandler's laughter. You knew of no sound better than Chandler's laughing, so you turned around to catch a glimpse of his smile.
He nodded at you. “What?"
"Nothing, just..." you slowly licked your lips. “Just wanted to see you smile.”
"Aww, aren't you cute" Chandler cooed, leaning in and softly kissing you. “I love you, (Y/n). And, seriously, thanks for coming with Ross 'n' me earlier.”
"No prob, baby. I love you too, Chandler.”
Chandler gazed at you for a while longer, breaking the heartfelt moment when he dumped a handful of coins on the table. He winked at you as the group all dove in to take as many coins as they could, sure to use them to make Monica dance more using the machine. You joined in too, desperate for more of Chandler's happiness.

Frozen Heart
Paring: Peter Parker x Ice power!Reader
Warning: Swearing
Word count: 3.4K
Summary: Having a frozen heart hurt others but protected you, What happens when someone warms up your heart for the first time ever?
A/N: Do you guys like these? I mean to myself so I don’t know if these are actually good or not. I hope you like it anyways!
Tumblr media
"Finally." You sighed as you took the hood off of your head, You walked over to the kitchen and started putting the food away. You lived by yourself for many reasons one reason is that you're too cold for a roommate. You let out a small groan at the open fridge, you always forget to close it. It annoys you but it doesn't mean anything, with a wave of your hand everything is good.
You sigh as you get to work on your homework, You lived in a small cabin since your parents were gone. Despite being alone you were happy, you didn't really have any friends. The closest one was M.J, you two were the outcasts but you wouldn't say you were friends. A sudden knock on your door made you look up at the door with a raised brow. You walked over and opened to door to see two adults standing in front of you. You acted like you didn't notice how they shivered when you opened your door.
"Hello, Ma'am." The blonde male starts, making you narrow your eyes at them. You sighed and leaned against the doorway at the two.
"Hello, Do you need anything?" You asked as you looked at them questioningly. Why would they be here at this hour? Scratch that, Any hour!?
 "Are your parents home?" the blonde asks trying to look over your shoulder to see inside of your house. You blocked his view of your house with a glare.
"No, actually their not." You grabbed the door, "So if you two would just." You tried to close the door in their faces but one of them put their foot down before you could close it.
"We're here to talk."
"Not interested!" You groaned as you tried to close the door with all fo your strength, You silently curse not doing anything in gym class.
"We're looking for (Y/n) (L/n), You know her?" Your eyes widen as you looked at the two before frowning.
"Why do you care!?" You ask as you back away from the door, You shiver a little as you frown. You looked down to see the floor under your feet is starting to freeze.
"We have reason to believe she has powerful magic." They explained to you, making you even more nervous. You wouldn't call your magic powerful but it was something.
"N-nope, haven't seen her. You must have the wrong neighborhood. Buh-Bye!" you tried to slam it again but it didn't work. The two look at each other before gently opening the door.
"(Y/n)? It's alright, you can come with us and everything will be okay. I swear." The blonde said quietly trying to make sure you don't freak out.
It didn't work. He started to walk into your house, making your breathing quicken.
"L-Leave me alone!" You yell as you throw down your arms, freezing the floors and making it snow inside the house. You gasp as you make eye-contact with the two. Half of their bodies were frozen, making you frown but you were quick yo grab your backpack and pack important items in it.
"I'm sorry, I really am." You muttered quietly while you were half-way out your window. You looked at them before sighing and making the ice go away from their bodies. You jumped out the window and ran into the woods.
"H-Hey Kid, wait!" You heard the two yell as you run. When you were far enough you fall on your knees and pant quietly.
"What am I supposed to do now?" You whisper to yourself, You hug yourself as you lay down on the floor. Looking at the stars above.
~~
You walked into the school with a small groan, you were luckily wearing different clothes from yesterday so no one questions anything. Well, except for the bitch who won't leave you alone. Ever.
"Hey, (N/n), How you doing?" Flash asks as he puts an arm around your shoulder. You look at him with a frown as you move his arm off your shoulder and goes over to your locker, "Hey what's with the silent treatment? Don't you know that's rude?"
"Cause you would know what's rude." You rolled your eyes as you put some books into your lockers, "I've been the way you talk to kids." You started to put your gloves on but frowns as Flash takes one of your gloves, "Hey!"
"Why do you always wear these, (N/n)?" Flash asks as he looks at the (F/c) gloves, "It's like 80 degrees outside."
"Don't call me that and Give me that!" You growl as you reach for your glove, being careful with what you do with your ungloved hand. You didn't want anyone else to figure it out.
"C'mon you can tell me, Nothing to be scared about," Flash smirks looks down at you as he holds the gloves up high. Your eye twitches as you stare at the annoying boy. You could feel the hall becoming colder and colder by the minute. You take a deep breath and look up at the boy.
"Flash, just give me the goddamn glove and you can move on with your life." You refuse to jump but to reach the glove but you seriously needed that glove. If you weren't careful you would freeze anything you held. Suddenly the glove was In your hand and you looked up with a puzzled expression.
"There you go, (Y/n). Flash just stop, it's not funny." There stood Peter Parker, the one who gave you back your glove. You quickly put it back on before it can be taken from you again. You looked at Peter questioningly as you two never really talked. You tow have talked once or twice as he also talked to M.J.
"Aw, Penis Parker helping his girlfriend?" Flash mocked as he looked over at you, "You can do way better (N/n). Good luck, Babe." He winked at you as he walked away, You noticed the way he hit Peter's shoulder.
"Thanks." You say as you both watch Flash walk away, "He was being really annoying, You know more than usual." You let out a small chuckle at that.
"I-It's nothing." Peter shuttered making you look at him, he does that sometimes and it was kinda...cute, "Why did he care about your gloves?"
"I dunno, actually." You held up your arm to look at the glove, "I guess it's because I only wear them at school?" You asked more than stated looking up at the boy.
You both look up as the bell rings, you groan as you look down at your books. You look back up at Peter to see he had a smile on his face, He held his arm out with a shy smile.
"Walk to class with me?" He avoided your eyes as he asked that, making you give a small smile at that. He looked up in shock as you link your arm with him with a sly smile. Peter gave you a shy one as you two walk over to class.
You just hoped you weren't too cold.
~~ You were walking down the streets of Queens, it was nighttime. You couldn't go back to your cabin since those men now know where you lived and after that stunt, they must be mad now!
'Maybe I can go by Parker's?' You asked yourself before mentally slapping yourself. You bearly talk to him! Why would he help you now!? You weren't the nicest to him. You were so deep in your thoughts you didn't even hear the footsteps behind you.
"It's you." A young voice said from behind you, You yelped and looked behind you to see the mighty Spider-Man hanging upside down from a web. He was just staring at you. You give him an awkward smile.
"Yep, It's me." You point behind you, "Now If you excuse me. I gotta go! Bye!" You give him another smile before trying to walk away from the Spider.
"No, Wait!" He squeaked out before he gently grabbed your hand to stop you. You flinch and look over at him with a questioning gaze, "We've been looking for you."
"That sounds really really really creepy!" You yell, trying to pull your hand away from his but he wasn't budging, "Please, just let me go!"
"We want to help you, (Y/n)."  Your eyes widen as he said your name, why did he know your name!? You look up at him with fear in your eyes.
"H-How do you know my name? Who are we!?" You yelp out trying to calm yourself before you freeze this hero. You didn't want to do that again even if you could semi-control it. The eyes on his masks widen for a second before he sighs deeply.
"The Avengers, (Y/n). I know it sounds creepy but they think you could really help the team." Your eyes widen, "Captain America and the Falcon went to look for you but they said you freaked out and ran before they could talk." You start to feel yourself become cooler and cooler by the minute.
It was becoming too cold, too cold to be normal.
"(Y/n)?"
You needed to calm down, you tried to control your breathing but it didn't really work.
"Are you okay?"
You help arms on your shoulders, making you look at the eyes of Spider-man's masks. You silently wondered whose eyes you're looking at.
"You need to calm down, okay? Nothing bad is going to happen to you, We just want to help you." You slowly nodded at him. Wondering what your going to do. As you slowly calmed down the world around you started to warm up, a little too warm for your liking, "(Y/n), what's wrong now?" He didn't sound annoyed, just worried.
"Too warm..." You mumbled out before closing your eyes gently and going to sleep. You were content with sleeping when warm.
Cold is always better for you.
~~
You sighed as you sat down on a couch next to the avengers with Tony Stark talking to you. You shifted uncomfortably at their eyes, it was until you felt a hand gently take yours. You could already tell by how it felt it was Spider-man's, the room started to warm up as you squeezed his hand gently.
"So, I'm gonna assume you know why you're here," Tony said as he pretended he didn't notice you and Spider-man holding hands. You give him a look before looking around.
"Uh, Because you stalked me and found out about my power?" You gave them all a look as you looked all around the room, "And I was tattled on." You looked directly at Steve and Sam, oh yea you learned their names. Expect for Spider-man he was a mystery. Which made you interested in him more.
"Basically." tony shrugged at you, making you give him a look.
"We know you kind have a handle of your powers but we think it'll be good for you to train here," Steven spoke up, making you look up at him, why was he so tall!?
"What do I get in all of this?" You asked crossing your arms while raising a brow at them. They all looked at each other before Nat looked at you with a small smirk.
"How about a place to live?" Your eyes widen and you look around the tower before looking at them with a smirk.
"I'm in."
~~
"Ha! Ha!" You laugh as you sent an ice blast toward your opponent, making them fall to the ground. You've been having a pretty okay time at the tower. You've been getting better control of your powers.
 "Can I have a try?" A voice rang out the room, You look over to see Peter Parker. you figured out that he was Spider-man causally actually, You accidentally walked into his room when he was just in his pajamas. (Hello-Kitty)
"You gonna use webs on me?" You smirk toward the boy as you put your hand on your hips. The boy just raised a brow at you.
"Maybe. Unless you wanna do without powers for once?" Peter smirked at you when you just looked at him offended.
"What do you mean by that!? Are you saying I can't fight without my powers?" You crossed your arms in mock anger, too be honest Peter kinda grown on you. Peter just smirked at you making you smirk, "Bring it on!"
You two start to fight, (I suck at writing fight scenes so I'm kinda not going to. Sorry) You let out a breathy laugh as you and Peter stood in front of each other, panting from the hit and punches.
"Y-your doing good." Peter pant as he smiled at you, You smile back at him. He stood up and held an arm for you, you made and linked your arm with him walking to the kitchen.
"What are you two up to?" Sam asks as he entered the kitchen, seeing you covered head-to-toe in flour while Peter was trying to conceal his laughs.
"Trying to make breakfast." You gritted your teeth glaring at Peter who just smiled sweetly at you. You pouted as you crossed your arms, knowing you had to take a shower now.
"What happened?"
"He happened!" you angrily pointed at Peter who held his arms up in defense.
"I didn't know you wouldn't catch it!"
"How was I support to catch it!?" You two looked at each other in mock-anger, you honestly found his funny. You tried to conceal your smile but failed as you let out a few small giggles. Peter started to laugh too making you laugh even more. Sam watched with amusement as you and Peter tried not to tottle over each other, silently hoping he'll win his 50 dollars.
"Breakfast!" You put down some pancakes in front of Steve, "Food!" You put it in front of Nat, "Whatever this is!" You put some in front of Tony, making him frown at you before looking at his food.
"I'd be careful eating those if I were you," Peter smirked as he looked at all of the pancakes. He looked toward you who was happily munching your food.
"You're just jealous I made some bomb-ass pancakes!" you chirped happily as you continue to eat your food. Your smile became even bigger as you heard Peter's giggle from next to you.
"How did you manage to make these?" Sam asks with a raised brow, he saw the mess you two made earlier. You looked over at peter with a look making him giggle again.
"We make a good team." Was all that you said before taking another bite of your food. Sam shared a look with everyone at the table.
~~
"You nervous?" Peter asked from next to you, gently holding your cold hand. You were going off on your first ever mission. You gave a little hum, "Hey," Peter took a gently hold of your chin, making you look at him, "I've been you improving, you'll be amazing. Trust me." He gave you his dorky smile that you loved Liked so much.
"Okay, I trust you." You smiled at him. You two spent a moment just staring at the eyes of each other. Did you ever mention how much you loved his brown eyes, they were like honey, they were so pretty.
"hey, Lovebirds!" Tony shouted at you two, making you look toward the group, "You two are paired up together. Think you can handle it?" Tony asks with a raised brow.
"Of course!"
"then, let's go, team!"
~~
"wow...It's pretty warm in here, isn't it?" Peter asks as he looks around the darkroom. You were stumbling a little from the heat, it was really hot in here.
"Y-yea, it is." You put a cool hand on your cheek to try to cool yourself off. It was better than before but still not good enough, "What are we looking for?"
"The hostages." Peter answered looking around for anyone, "Karen, is there anyone here?" there was a slight pause, "besides us." You quickly turned around as you heard something, you looked and saw someone in the distance.
"Ah Ah Ah Ah." You heard a voice sing, You narrow your eyes at the figure as you feel peter staring at you.
"We are not doing this," you growled as you raise a cold hand, blasting ice toward the person. You heard then grunt as they tried to get out of the ice, "Go get the hostages, I'll deal with this fucker."
"You sure?" You have him a nog and that was all he needed before he started running in the other direction. You start walking closer to the man, each step making the ice around him go further up and up.
"What is your plan?" You ask as you stare at the dark mask. They didn't answer you making you sigh, "Didn't want to do this." You raise your hand and make a fist, tightening the ice around him, "What. Is. Your. Plan!?" You growled through clenched teeth. Instead of answering the person starts to chuckle you looked at him confused before you realized he presses a button.
"Wha..." Your eyes widen as it started to get hotter and hotter in the room, "What are you..." You started to stumble as you tried not to realize him.
"Elsa doesn't like the heat, is that it?" A deep gruff voice rang out, making you look at the man. Your knees gave out as you fell to the ground. Your vision started to darken as your eyes start to droop, "All is going according to plan."  You hear one last thing before you fell into darkness.
"(Y/n)!!"
~~ You woke up with a gasp sitting up in the darkroom, that wasn't yours. You look around the room and it seemed more like a void. You hugged yourself as you realized that it was freezing.
"W-Where am I?" you ask the darkness and frowning when you heard your own ego. At least you felt better, you preferred this over that oven. You just felt like you were forgetting something, "Peter!" You yelled as you stood up and ran forward when you felt a wall you started to bang on it hard, "Let me out! Wheres Peter!? Is he okay!? What happened!?"
You were gasping and panting as you felt tears sting your eyes. After a couple of minutes, you let out a sob as you put your forehead on the door. You felt a tear run down your cheek before it fell it froze. You let out a small gasp as the door opened making you fall forward.
"(Y/n)?" You heard a familiar voice asks, You look up with a smile as there stood Peter Parker (Out of his Spider-suit.) He looked down at you with a small voice that you loved so much, "Are you alright?"
"Peter!" you sobbed as you wrapped your arms around his neck, hugging him close to you, "I thought you were hurt! O-Or something!"
"Why would I be hurt?" He chuckled as he wrapped his arms around your waist. God, That chuckle was adorable!
"I-I don't know!" You pulled away and put a cold hand on his cheek, "The last thing I remembered I was knocked out you were fighting that guy all by yourself. We didn't know what he could have done."
"Well, don't worry your pretty head about it." He ruffled your hair, making you huff, "We got the hostages out and the guy was arrested," he smiled softly at you as he gently stood a hold of your chin to look at him, "Were you really that worried about me?"
"Of course, You're my best friend." Peter smiled as you admitted that you were friends. He always tried to get you to say it but you wouldn't budge. That gave him enough courage to place a small gentle kiss on your cold lips.
Before he could pull away but kissed him back passionately, making him chuckle and pull you close to it. The kiss lasted for a while until you both pulled away, smiling at each other.
"I've been meaning to tell you but it just slipped my mind."
"I swear to god, Parker!"

A slip of the tongue. A simple bit of miscommunication was all that had gotten you into this mess. You weren’t even the one to say it. You hadn’t even confirmed anything. Now? Now you were stuck in a predicament.
Cheryl had been talking about how she was so excited to meet everyone’s significant others and to introduce her wife to everyone. Then suddenly the four of you at your cubicle were talking about how awesome it was going to be with the eight of you.
Not once were you even given a chance to speak, not once were you able to tell them that in fact, no, you did not have a significant other that you could bring to the Christmas party. When you left work that day with only a week until the party a plan started brewing in your head, it was too late for you to correct them, you needed a date.
Tony said no. He was too much of a public figure and a happily married man.
Clint told you to ask Natasha. She said no.
Now you sat next to Sam, your last option.
“Please Sam, you are my only option now!”
“Yea I’m not your only option though, am I?” Sam smirked as he continued to avoid answering your pleas. You let out a sigh and threw your head back. “I’m pretty sure Steve wouldn’t be too happy with me doing that, why don’t you ask Bucky?”
“Ask Bucky what?” Bucky and Steve walked into the open lounge and kitchen area with the shopping as Bucky started unloading the food and Steve came to lean over the couch behind Sam.
“Y/N needs a date to her work’s Christmas party” Sam was nonchalant about the whole thing while Steve raised an eyebrow and looked at you with narrowed eyes.
“And you asked Sam?” you nod slightly, mumble ‘just for the night?’ but Steve’s mouth falls open and his grip on Sam’s shoulders tightened. “I’d rather not share my boyfriend with my sister.”
Sam’s face falls and then scrunches up, “yea I’d rather not date both the Rogers.”
In the kitchen, Bucky stifles a laugh as he continues putting away the frozen foods.
“You could take Bucky?” Steve suggests, leaving the two of you to help Bucky.
“I’d rather not.”
“Does Bucky get a say in this?” Bucky threw up his hands as you stood from your seat. You do this all the time with Sam, talk about him right in front of him like he isn’t even there, drives him crazy.
“It’s okay Bucket. I’d rather not go than go with you anyway,” you shrug it off but your shoulders sag, you were really looking forward to that party, maybe you can make some excuse as to why your partner couldn’t be there.
Bucky sighs as Steve nudges his arm and gives him a pleading look, mouthing ‘please’ Bucky rolls his eyes. “Fine, Y/N. I’ll be your stupid date but you owe me!”
“You don’t have to-“
“No, no I’ll do it. You just owe me a favour alright?” Your face lights up and you try to ignore the fact that you’ll be with Bucky, or the nagging voice in the back of your head that sounds a lot like Rebecca reminding you of that high school crush you used to have.

Steve sat on the window sill that looked out across the street of his apartment. He had a notebook in hand and was drawing the potted plant that sat on the balcony across the way. It was a peaceful and serene moment.
“Greetings brother!” Moment over. “Is Bucket Brains here?”
“He’s in his room,” Steve nodded towards Bucky’s room and he watched you walk straight in, scream, and walk straight out. “He just got out of the shower.” Steve bit back a laugh. You shot a glare at him and Bucky came out of his room pulling a shirt over his head.
“Do you know how to knock?!”
“I need to wash my fucking eyes out!”
“Who gave you a key?” Bucky pulled a box of cereal out of the cupboard with a huff and slammed a bowl on the bench. “You’re here so much we should start charging you rent.”
“Oh please,” you plopped into one of the stools, Steve closed his eyes and leaned his head back ready for another battle between you two, same thing different day. “I have every right to be here, I’m family. What’s your excuse?”
“I live here!”
“But at what cost?”
“Fucking hell you two bicker like an old married couple!” Sam walks over to Steve and pushes his notebook out of his lap, replacing it with himself.
“Us?” Bucky exclaims as Steve pushes Sam to the ground and sits at the bench next to you. “You two bicker like a freaking married couple.”
“That doesn’t count,” Steve says and Sam stands and tries to push himself back onto Steve’s lap, much to his annoyance. “We basically are an old married couple.”
“Pfft. Like I’d marry you.” Steve gasps and pulls Sam closer, Bucky just ignores them. It was a common occurrence to witness Steve and Sam being sickeningly sweet.
“You take that back!”
~~~
“Right, now that that’s out of the way I have to buy a dress.” You and Bucky, while Steve and Sam watched with amusement, had spent the past hour getting your story straight for the party that night. You had everything down to the last detail, where you met (through Steve), when you got together (two months ago), your first date (a simple dinner and a movie). In six hours, you and Bucky would be walking through the door to your to the Christmas party, for now, you needed an outfit.
“You don’t have a dress?”
“I don’t exactly go to many events Jameson.” Bucky bit back a growl. Those stupid fucking nicknames.
“I wonder why. It’s the day of the event, you couldn’t buy one earlier?”
“I’m not great at time management... and shop dressing sucks.”
“You need a babysitter.” You flipped Bucky off as you started to walk towards the door, you didn’t notice him pull his shoes on.
“Isn’t that your job now?” Bucky smacked Sam over the head as he jogged to catch up with you at the door.
“I have to go to the mall anyway,” he shrugged.
Bucky was different when he was by himself. You noticed that as soon as the two of you got into the car. He didn’t bite back as much, his fingers tapped on the steering wheel to the beat of the radio, he was carefree.
You dragged him into shop after shop trying to find the perfect dress for the night. Bucky didn’t seem too fazed. He followed suit, even picked out some things for you to try every now and then. There wasn’t much chat, you warned him about your coworkers.
“Stacy is a bit intense, she’ll probably question you but she means well.”
He nodded along outside the changing room not really paying attention to what you were saying but just to the sound of your voice, it was rare he got to hear it not making snide comments towards him, he enjoyed the peace.
“Okay this is it,” you stepped out of the changing room with dress in hand and smiled at him.
“Are you saying that because it’s good or because you’re sick of shopping?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know Bucket,” you winked.
“Please stop calling me that.”
“You called me Inferior Rogers for a year so uh no.”
Steve liked to describe you and Bucky’s relationship as love-hate, he wanted to tell people that you got along, that you were one big happy family but alas, that wasn’t the case. Bucky liked to say “she’s about one comment away from being as annoying as my sister”. Bucky meant by this of course, “she’s my best friend’s sister, as much as I want to kiss her stupid face I have to pretend I see her as a sister too”.
You liked to say “Bucky is the bane of my existence”. Rebecca would follow up with “she’s in denial they’re gonna get married and she’s gonna be my actual sister one day”. You, of course, meant, “Rebecca was my only friend in high school because people used to only be friends with us to get to Bucky even though he’s a giant nerd who stole my brother...and I’m angry that I want to kiss his stupid face”. Rebecca, well, she meant what she said.
The youngest of the Barnes clan had been rooting for the two of you since senior year when you went to a college party with the boys and got put into seven minutes in heaven with Bucky. Nothing happened, of course, at least that’s what you agreed and what you told a grinning Rebecca and tight-mouthed Steve when you walked out. The heated making out that was brought on by pent up feelings and snide comments was one of those ‘this never happened’ things. That was a long time ago.
“I’ll pick you up at 7 then?” You sat in your car now, dropping Bucky off back at his apartment. Your shopping was in the back, Bucky’s one bag, he bought socks, was in his hand as he sat with his leg out the door.
“It’s at a gallery, like ten minutes away from here so we could walk? I can meet you here?”
“It’s at Steve’s place?”
“Oh no, I tried but they went for the modern art one.” You shrug your shoulders, Steve was booked out for the holiday season so your work couldn’t get in to have theirs there, would have made things easier, you could have just hung out with him all night.
“Damn she’s a bitch.”
“Yea, ahh well. Don’t forget your notes! I’ll see you at 7?”
“See you at 7.”
~~~
“Fuck you!”
“I’m trying to help!”
You walked into the boy’s apartment and stood in the doorway watching Bucky and Sam yell at each other from across the room. Bucky yelled over the back of the couch, his hand in his hair and dressed ready for the night except for the tie left undone around his neck. Sam stood in the doorway of his bedroom, he turned to you as soon as he noticed your presence.
“Get your boyfriend the fuck out of my apartment!”
“Just before you were complaining that I was leaving!” Sam fumbled trying to come up with a comeback as Bucky slouched back into the couch and tried - and failed - to tie his tie.
“What the fuck guys?” you threw your hands up and slapped Bucky’s hands away, fixing the tie yourself. “One of these days someone is going to call the police claiming you guys are having a domestic dispute!” Bucky watched the concentration on your face, once again not paying attention to what you were saying, he had to sit on his hands and hold himself back from leaning in because all he wanted to do was kiss the crease on your forehead and suck your tongue as it sticks out the corner of your mouth slightly.
“It’s not my fault Bucky can’t tie a tie!”
“Neither can you!” he snaps out of your trance as you stand up straight and offer him your hand which he gladly takes.
~~~
“It’s going to be fine.” The party was in full swing when you and Bucky arrived, you weren’t sure if you were talking to yourself or Bucky at this point. His hand rested on your lower back as he guided you through the gallery.
“Take a deep breath Poppet.” You bit your lip at the use of the nickname. You and Bucky weren’t strangers to nicknames, Bucket...and all of the bucket related names like Bucket Brains, Bucky-Bucket and Bucket Barnes, Buckerooster and Buckaroo, Inferior Rogers, Roger Rabbit, Stupid head, Stink for brains, Jerky McJerkface was a fan favourite and there was that one time he yelled “Abomination!” at you before storming out because you ate the last of his Nutella sandwich...you claim you thought it was Becca’s but who’s to say.
Poppet was different. Poppet was a name of endearment. Poppet wasn’t something you’d ever heard Bucky call anyone before. Bucky had never called you anything endearing before. It’s just the deal, he’s just pretending, you told yourself cursing Becca for putting ideas in your head about the prospect of you and Bucky constantly.
There’s no time to even think about it as your friends are coming up to you and introductions are being given out, Bucky is shaking hands, everyone is smiling and laughing and a glass of champagne is being pushed into your hand.
It’s no time at all when Stacey is questioning Bucky about his work and his family and then the dreaded question comes up, “How did you two meet then?”
Bucky lets out a chuckle and before you can answer he’s going on about how when you were seven and him ten he came round to hang out with your brother, you wouldn’t leave them alone and Bucky ended up elbowing you “accidentally I swear” in the face. The group erupts in laughter as Bucky describes you crying and running to your mother with a chipped tooth, “wasn’t the best first impression, but her brother and I have been best friends ever since really.”
There’s a couple aww’s, you raise your eyebrows and give him a what the hell look because that wasn’t what we discussed. Bucky shrugs, it just came out.
“You two must be high school sweethearts then! That’s so sweet!”
“Oh no no not at all,” you try to stop her, try to tell Stacey that, no, you were not high school sweethearts at all but bucky beat you to it with a laugh.
"No, couldn't stand her in high school. But after college she seemed to be less of a brat,” he looks at you and digs his hand in his pocket with a wink, “anyway, I moved in with her brother and we started hanging out and I started seeing her in a different light I guess."
You stand there with your mouth slightly ajar, Bucky shifts slightly from side to side and takes a mouthful of his champagne.
"Well, how'd you get together then?"
He laughs nervously, not looking at you but you’re still looking at him, this wasn’t the plan! You don’t know what to say, your story doesn’t make sense now but Bucky speaks up, “actually have Steve to thank for that. He asked to go to the museum with the both of us, separately of course, then canceled after we were already there waiting for him.” He gives you a nervous glance, “she's a giant nerd but so am I so we decided to just go in and look around. Ended up there for what? Two hours? Something like that. I think that's when I fell for her as silly as that sounds. Something adorably intriguing about a girl you have to drag away from a sculpture because she's been admiring it for fifteen minutes. Yea, that was that." Bucky laughs again and the group aww’s and is gushing about how adorable that is and how sweet of a story it is.
You’re shocked to say the least. Shocked because that did happen, all of that. About five months ago when Steve invited you to a day out at the museum and you ran into Bucky outside. You were both shocked but thought, ya know what, fuck it. You didn’t HAVE to go around the new exhibits together but that’s what ended up happening. You moved at your own pace, sometimes reading through the information together. That was until you got to the marble statues and, well, you ended up looking at one for a good fifteen minutes before, like Bucky said, he dragged you away by the arm. Saying things like "what's so interesting about a sculpture anyway, it's the space exhibition you should really be paying attention to."
You laugh with your friends and the conversation quickly moves on to everyone else’s stories of how they met their partners. Bucky won’t look at you, he’s biting his lower lip and paying an awful lot of attention to his empty champagne glass until there’s a lull in the conversation and he pipes up and offers to get everyone another round.
By 1am you’re both drunk and stumbling down the street with a bottle of something something each and the air is filled with laughter. The moment earlier is forgotten about, the night filled with laughter, stories from work and dancing with friends instead of awkward glances and nervous small talk.
You almost fall into Bucky’s apartment but he’s clutching your waist and your arm is slung lazily around his shoulder as you keep each other up.
“We gotta - shh - baby we gotta be quiet” he nods towards the hallway where Sam and Steve are most likely sleeping as you sit on the couch and bring the bottle to your lips.
“You can stop calling me baby, no one’s around,” you look around and Bucky sits on the floor next to you, his bottle sitting on the table.
“Maybe I like it baby,” he emphasizes the word and there’s a smirk on his face as he looks at you. It’s just the alcohol you think when you see a twinkle in his eye.
“Fuck, marry, kill Bucket!” You say sliding off the sofa onto the floor next to him. Bucky groans and throws his head back.
“Alright, you first.”
“Okay. Wanda, Nat or me?”
“That’s just all the girls but Pepper?” He taps his chin and he’s thinking as if he hasn’t already made up his mind. But he can’t tell you that.
“Well she’s married so you can’t have her.”
“Kill-”
“You have to say why!”
Bucky laughs and takes the bottle from you, taking a drink before continuing. “Kill Nat, she can’t cook. Fuck you because it’ll shut you up for a second. Marry Wanda, then she can make me plum pies for the rest of her life.” He licks his lips, glazed over eyes looking towards the tv as he thinks about Wanda’s famous pies and the fact that it’s all a lie.
“Like you’d be good enough in bed to shut me up”
“I can show you if you want,” Bucky winks and you shove him with your elbow and snatch the bottle back, raising an eyebrow expectantly. “Alright, Sam, Clint or me?” He lists off the names on his fingers and you roll your eyes at him including himself, Pietro is an option too he didn’t HAVE to say himself.
“Oh, that’s easy. I’m killing Sam, I’d rather not have my brother’s dirty seconds.”
“He’s got some weird kinks as well.”
“How do you..never mind. Fuck Clint because Nat says he’s good in bed and marry you.” Bucky perks up at your answer, you’re picking at the label on the bottle hoping he doesn’t ask why.
“You have to say why.” Fuck.
“Having to deal with Clint’s unpredictability all day? No thanks, he and Nat have it down packed.”
“Oh, so I’m predictable?” Bucky feigns hurt and clutches his chest like you’ve shot him, you shove him again and he almost goes tumbling to the side with laughter.
“No stupid. I bet you’d treat your sig-nif-i-cant other like royalty.” You’re smiling at him and your worlds are spoken slowly to get them out right but you’re so sure of yourself. You’ve seen Bucky in a relationship, though they only happen rarely and he’s absolutely loyal and caring.
“Only if it was the right person.” You’re looking at each other and Bucky starts to lean in closer. You follow, your eyes darting to his lips as his tongue pokes out quickly and he licks his bottom lip.
“And what’s the right person,” you whisper and you think, in the corner of your eye, you see his hand starts to raise towards you. All of a sudden Bucky is on his feet and you hear the bathroom door shut and what sounds like Bucky vomiting.
“Neat.” You take another swig of the bottle and crawl back onto the couch, sleep sounds good, bad decisions are made with alcohol.
~~~
“Hey,” something or someONE is poking your foot and it’s awfully annoying but not as annoying as the sound of the beEPING MICROWAVE. “Hey wake up.”
“Go away,” you swat at the noise, Steve, but he just laughs and pushes your legs off the sofa, sitting in their place.
“Looks like you and Bucky got along.” You can hear his smirk, how is it possible to hear someone’s smirk. God your head hurts, your stomach hurts too much champagne. You groan and he laughs again.
Without warning the sound of two pans smacking together rings out through the place followed by Sam’s laughter in the hallway and Bucky’s yelling.
“I’m gonna go throw up.”
Steve sits on the side of the tub with a bottle of water while you empty the little contents that remain in your stomach. As annoying as brothers can be at least you know he’s always here for you, even when you’ve just vomited in his toilet.
“Can I ask you something?”
“Advil is in the left cupboard.”
“No, but thanks. Do you remember when you canceled on going to the museum with Bucky and me?” You’re searching through his cabinet and he chucks you the water bottle when you find the Advil.
“Yea why?” Steve shrugs and nods his head.
“Why’d you do that?” As soon as you ask he’s got that guilty look on his face. The same one he gave you when he fed your stuffed teddy to the dog next door when you were seven and the same one he gave you when he and Sam and moved in together three months after the fact (that one still stings).
“I just want you two to get along! You both love the museum so I thought if you had a common interest…” Steve shrugs again and you have to applaud his dedication to getting you and Bucky to get along, if only.
“Our common interest is you, you idiot.” You think about all the times you and Bucky have fought, all the times you felt annoyed by him “you’re why we don’t get along.”
“I think if anything, that should be a reason to get along.” You’re too hungover to explain this shit to Steve and his thick, loving brain now.
“We’re at each other’s throats for your attention Stevie, now leave me to be hungover on your bathroom floor.” The cold tile is refreshing against your cheek, Steve stands up and kicks your leg, offering you a ride home and a promise to drop the subject but not without a “I love you both.”
Bucky regrets getting out of bed. Not even the pile of apology bacon from Sam for waking him up with PANS could fix his comment.
“The most important thing I want to know about your night is did y’all FUCK?!”
“Dude, that’s my sister?” Steve walks into the kitchen and Bucky sighs in relief that you’re not with him, he doesn’t think he can face you after last night.
“Don’t call me dude, my name is baby to you.” Sam points his tongs at Steve who just bats them away with a finger and wraps him in a hug.
Bucky hates feelings, romance sucks. His head is in his hands and he is still very much hungover “no we didn’t fuck, it was fine. Went smoothly, nothing scandalous.”
Sam pulls back from Steve and gives Bucky a pointed look, he’s gearing for an earful. “Is it a genetics thing?” Sam turns to Steve and smacks his chest, “Are all Rogers just really fucking dense?”
“What did I do?”
“It took four months for you to realize I was asking you out and taking you on dates you buffoon!” Bucky swears this conversation was about him and you for a second but fuck apparently not. Maybe he could slip out? Go back to sleep? Avoid you for a few weeks and not think about the fact he almost kissed you or let spill about the museum…
“And I apologized but what does that have to do with anything?” Bucky catches Sam’s eye and his heart drops, his eyes are begging him not to say anything.
“Sam -”
“Nah you had your shot and you missed. In fact the net was here,” he points in front of him, “and you threw the ball allllllll the way over there,” and his hand is stretched out towards the window. Steve sits down on the seat next to Bucky, his attention caught in the conversation he doesn’t quite understand. “Steve, baby, love of my life, please don’t kill the messenger here.”
“Sam.” Bucky is about to leap over the counter and throttle Sam...if only his head didn’t hurt so much.
“Bucky wants to bone your sister and I honestly CANNOT believe she hasn’t realized that. Why else would he have said yes to last night?!”
Steve lets out a nervous laugh, he shakes his head and looks between Bucky and Sam, “what? Noo.” But when he looks at Bucky and sees his face dropped and the defeated look in his eyes Steve knows the truth and his mouth hangs open.
“It’s not like that Steve-”
“Oh no sorry, Bucky has a giant nerd crush on your sister.” Right, that’s it. Bucky leaps out of his chair and tackles Sam, his headache long forgotten about.
“I TOLD YOU IN CONFIDENCE!” They’re scuffling on the ground muttering things like “you had your chance!” and “you fucker!” before Steve is pulling them apart and onto separate couches.
“I was really rooting for you man.” Bucky narrows his eyes at Sam and rubs his hands down his face. This could not be a worse day.
“Is this true?” Oh okay no Steve wants to talk about it this it could be a worse day.
“It’s not like anything is or ever was going to happen. She’s your sister, I wouldn’t do that to you.”
“And she hates him.”
“And she hates me yes thank you Sam.”
“She doesn’t hate you.” Steve stands up and walks into the hallway. That’s when it dawned on him. You were right. It’s him.
Steve thinks back to all the times you and Bucky fought as kids and realizes that he was the common factor. You were fighting over him. Then as the years went by and you grew you just began fighting about everything, but it all started with having to share Steve. When you made Bucky eat sand at the playground when you were eight Steve thought it was because Bucky had stolen your toy but it was because Steve had chosen to play with Bucky. When you were twelve and you yelled at Bucky for being an asshat it was because Steve chose to ride bikes with him instead of you. Steve wondered how long Bucky had felt this way about you and how he’d missed it. His gut fell at the idea that he was the reason Bucky hadn’t done anything about his feelings.
He turned and walked back into the lounge, determined to set right what he had caused to sit adrift for however long. “Right okay this is the weirdest fucking to happen to me and I’m friends with Clint and Tony. Is it just a crush or is it proper feelings?”
After getting over the initial shock of Steve seeming okay with Bucky’s feelings he has to take a second to register what he’s being asked before he can answer with confidence. “Feelings?” ...or little confidence.
“You need to be sure because if you hurt her I will not hesitate to kill you.” Sam is taken aback by Steve’s outburst almost as much as Bucky but he’s also a little turned on right now…
“Okay, yea I’m sure. I want to date her I’m sorry okay. It won’t happen.”
“That’s a lie.” Steve knows Bucky would never do anything to jeopardize their friendship, and he knows that if his feelings for you are real that he wouldn’t do anything that would risk hurting you. “Knowing Sam, he’ll make something happen.” But he also knows Sam’s meddling ass...who happened to suggest you ask Bucky in the first place… “Anyway, if you get married you’d be my actual brother and that’s pretty cool.”
Bucky’s face lights up at the idea of marrying you. He only really thought it was a crush, maybe mixed in with some sexual tension, until last night. Having you on his arm, pretending you were his. The comments people made about you looking so good together. Bucky wanted that for the rest of his life. He didn’t love you, or at least he wasn’t sure of that yet, but fuck he could see it happening, he wanted it to happen. And you almost kissed him last night, you said you’d marry him so maybe, just maybe, there was something there.
After he’s showered, shaved and dressed Bucky is out the door and to your apartment as Sam slings his arm over Steve’s shoulder.
“I’m really proud of you, didn’t think you had that in you. Didn’t even punch him.”
“I think I’m already too emotionally invested in their relationship.” Steve sighs and leans back into Sam.
“Shit man me too she better say yes.”
~~~
Bucky’s palms are clammy and his heart is racing when he reaches the door to your apartment. He has to count to three and take a deep breath before he knocks on the door but he’s thoroughly disappointed, and also a little relieved when Wanda opens it.
“You look almost as bad as her.” She looks Bucky up and down and gestures for him to come in, Bucky looks around the open lounge and kitchen area but there’s no sign of you.
“I feel like death is she here?” He’s frantic, he must sound like an idiot.
“She’s in her room.”
There’s a soft knock on your door but no answer. Bucky looks over his shoulder but there’s no sight of Wanda anymore either as he slips into your room and sees you curled up and fast asleep on one side of your bed with still slightly wet hair and pajamas.
He can’t leave, he considers it but he’s come so far. He could wake you up. But he doesn’t want you to be mad at him if you aren’t already. So Bucky sits on the side of the bed. Then after a few minutes of twiddling his thumbs, he’s scooting up to the top of your bed and laying his head on the pillow, careful not to make any sudden movements. The next thing he knows he’s fast asleep next to you.
You wake up and there’s a heavy warmth over your waist and your phone is flashing with missed messages. You peer over your shoulder and see Bucky sound asleep, turning onto your back you continue looking at him confused and pick up your phone...that has nine missed messages...one from Wanda and EIGHT from Rebecca, they state:
Wanda aka MOM: You guys are the cutest fake couple ever lmao
Betta Barnes: EXCUSE ME MA’AM!
FUCKING ANSWER YOUR PHONE!
WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS!
CHECK FB!!!!
I’M LOSING MY SHIT!
ARE YOU AND MY DEAR BROTHER DATING!
HE WON’T PICK UP!!!
YOU PROMISED YOU WOULD TELL ME IF YOU AND BUCKY STARTED DATING I FEEL VERY BETRAYED BUT ALSO VERY HAPPY! I’M HAVING A LOT OF CONFLICTED FEELINGS RN
Attached to Wanda’s message is a picture from the party of you and Bucky. His arm around your neck and yours around his torso, his lips pressed to your temple and you’re both laughing. You have a vague memory of the cameraman telling Bucky to show you some love and his striking the pose and then licking your cheek. That was five flutes in…oh no. Oh no Becca has seen these, this isn’t good.
Bucky groans and grips your hip, pulling you closer until he opens his eyes and remembers where he is. His hand leaves your hip and curls under his cheek as he gives you a sheepish smile and mumbles hello.
“What are you doing here?” Your phone and the problem of Rebecca thinking you and Bucky are actually dating is put to the side the moment he smiles at you. Has it always been that nice to see him smile?
“Wanted to talk but you were asleep...guess I fell asleep too.” Bucky rubs his eyes but he doesn’t move from his spot on his side next to you as you match his position.
“Talk about what?”
"I went off script last night." You suck in a breath as you remember what Bucky had said, the museum, the idea of him falling for you that day.
"You did. Why?"
"Thought it was more believable," he’s playing with a loose string in the pillow, too scared to look at your reaction as he thinks maybe this was a mistake.
"Because you meant what you said?" You’re biting your lip hoping to god he says yes but why would he?.
"Every word." Bucky reaches out and pushes a loose strand of hair back from your face, his fingers trail down your cheek slowly.
"But you hate me? I'm Steve's annoying little sister," the whole reason you fought was because you were Steve’s sister?! Bucky hates you, Bucky thinks you’re annoying. Bucky meant every word.
"I'm not going to disagree with that second part. But I don't hate you. Disliked you a lot when were younger but never hate.” He chuckles as his fingers retreat from your cheek back under his pillow, they leave goosebumps on your skin. “Kinda like ya actually." He’s not looking you in the eye again and you’ve never seen Bucky so shy in all the years you’ve known him.
"Does Steve know?”
"Wouldn’t be here if he didn't. I know you don't like me much but I had to tell you. I thought it was just a stupid crush but after last night, I had so much fun and you were just you and I loved seeing you like that. You're not like that around me normally." It’s your turn to brush the hair back from his face as he tries to hide behind it and your fingers scratch through his beard until they settle on his jaw. Bucky closes his eyes momentarily feeling you against him in a way he never thought he would.
"That's because we don't get along," you have to be sure. You need to be sure this isn’t all just a game to him. You know better, you know Bucky would never do anything to intentionally hurt you but you need to be sure for your own heart’s sake.
"Oh come on that's just banter neither of us means anything by it." He’s smiling at you and his eyes bounce between your eyes and your lips, god just kiss her he thinks, just fucking do it.
"Maybe not. Want to know something I do mean though?" He’s nodding his head quickly and you’re leaning in and pressing your lips to his. Your hand grips his jaw and pulls him closer as his travel up your side and push you onto your back, his body shortly following as he settles with one leg between yours and his hips pressed to your side.
Bucky is in bliss. He’s pretty sure he’s had dreams where he got to kiss you before but nothing could ever live up to the real thing. The feeling of your hands under his shirt on his shoulders, your fingers moving through his hair, your tongue. God your tongue welcoming him and drawing him in like he’s a sailor and you’re a siren in the middle of the ocean. He’d gladly follow you to the deepest depths.
You pull away but Bucky doesn’t stray far and he’s got a giant shit-eating grin on his face which you’re sure you mirror as you lie there out of breath with him.
“Can I take you on a real date?” You nod and pull him down for another peck. Bucky rolls off of you settles down next to you with a kiss pressed to your shoulder.
“But tomorrow.” “Hmm?”
“Today I want to order McDonald’s and continue sleeping off this hangover.” You reach up and tangle your fingers back into his hair, soft and falling around your hand as Bucky laughs against your shoulder. “Are you going to join me?”
“Of course,” he sits up and kisses you again but only quickly before he pulls out his phone. “You order I need to do something.
From Bucky to Sam:
There is an empty McDonalds bag on the floor, half empty cups on the nightstands and you’re lying in bed with your head on Bucky’s shoulder watching the IT Crowd when Bucky breaks the silence.
"Why is Rebecca sending me angry yet very supportive messages about us? These are from this morning before I came round...wait no this one was from an hour ago." He was finally looking through the dozen missed messages from his sister, having forgotten about them after texting Sam earlier when he noticed the pattern, some favorites included
I’LL FUCKING KILL YOU IF YOU HURT HER
I’M SO HAPPY LET ME TELL MUM
BUCKY YOU LUCKY SON OF A BITCH
MY OTP I’M CRYING
And those were just the most recent ones...
"When I was 15 and drunk off cruisers I told her I was going to marry you and she has never let me forget it," better to pull off the bandaid on that little tidbit you think. You should have known she would spam him as well, you just hoped she didn’t say anything embarrassing.
"I knew you had a crush on me.” Bucky squeezes your thigh that his hand rests on teasingly and you nudge him back telling him no you did not. “How does she already know?"
"She made me triple pinky swear to tell her if anything even remotely romantic were to happen between..."
"So you told her I was your fake boyfriend for a night and then that I asked you on a real date?"
"....no. but she saw the pictures from last night," you look up with a sly smile to see Bucky’s eyes go wide and his mouth drop open.
"There’s pictures?!?!"
