Under Mimikyu's Disguise: The Saddest Creature to Ever Exist

According to the Pokedex, the Pokemon Mimikyu is actually a lonely little critter who donned a Pikachu disguise with the hopes of being loved, as about 20 years ago Pikachu merchandise became immensely popular. But we really don't know about the being under the cloak other than the fact that it has a fluffy, small body and clawed hands. Well here's my theory on what could be under that creepy but cute Pikachu costume... And it's actually pretty sad. Disclaimer: I'm not saying it's definitely true, this is more of a food for thought kind of theory. Moving on.

The creature beneath the disguise isn't even a Pokemon. It's a Yu-Gi-Oh monster. Specifically, Kuriboh. But... Why? What does Kuriboh have to do with Pokemon? You'd be surprised to find that there are some eerie similarities between both Kuriboh and Winged Kuriboh and Mimikyu. For starters, Mimikyu is a Ghost and Fairy type and has an ability called Disguise, which allows it to take one attack damage free. Its appearance is vague, but like I said it seems to be furry and has clawed arms. Kuriboh is a Fiend type monster, a type that contains demons, goblins, imps, dark beings like those... But also spirits. Kuriboh has an effect that, if attacked, instead of taking damage you can discard it and receive no damage from that battle instead. But there's also a card called Winged Kuriboh, whose effect is that when it's destroyed, its owner takes no damage for the rest of that turn. And Winged Kuriboh is a Fairy type. So you have two Kuribohs, a Fiend and a Fairy, who share similar physical characteristics with Mimikyu, have similar types, and block damage with a special effect. But it doesn't stop here, oh no. There's even a REASON why Kuriboh became Mimikyu, and it's exactly what we're told by the Pokedex: around 20 years ago, Pikachu merchandise became immensely popular and Mimikyu disguised itself in a desperate attempt to be loved. Pokemon took the world by storm 20 years ago. And rivaling it was, you guessed it, Yu-Gi-Oh. We all know how that played out, Pokemon won over people by a landslide and while there are some Yu-Gi-Oh fans to this day Pokemon is possibly the most globally loved and recognized gaming franchise in history, with thriving video games, cards, toys and merchandise that focuses on one mascot. Pikachu. The face of Pokemon, the symbol of its global takeover. And what about Kuriboh? Even in the Yugiverse this thing gets the short end of the stick. In the anime Yugi is teased for having one in his deck because it's a pitifully weak monster in terms of stats, and until Winged Kuriboh was almost entirely useless without specific setup cards. Virtually nobody loved Kuriboh. For 20 years, it got to watch Pokemon expand and Pikachu spread his yellowness to the whole world from the bottom of people's card bins. Even among its own franchise Kuriboh was shunned. As Pokemon grew and grew, people started coming out with claims and allegations that Yu-Gi-Oh and other trading card games were "copying" Pokemon and further hurt their reputations. And stemming from this, Kuriboh had one desperate final plan. To mimic the most popular Pokemon and abandon its roots to wander the Pokemon world in search of someone who could finally love it. Your precious little Mimikyu could potentially be a sad, lonely puffball who was ignored and even hated for 20 years before giving up and discarding its identity just for your friendship.
