siiiigh. todd autism headcanons because im projecting.

(using they/he/she pronouns for todd in this post. will explain but also if u dont agree i dont care, tw for alcoholism. time period is vague but autism hasnt existed as a legitimate medical diagnosis for all that long, so keep it in mind i guess.)

- cannot for the life of him stand welton's blankets. so itchy, just thin enough to not warm you up enough but still make you sweat, not long enough to cover your entire body. yes im making the blanket line in their poem about actual blankets, a boy needs to vent somewhere.

- beyond terrible temperature regulation, ALWAYS just a little too hot which is made worse by her sensory issues when it comes to wet fabric. constant slight agony and it never really goes away. theyre about 5 minutes away from crying about how uncomfortable they are at all times.

- had god awful handwriting until high school, like his teachers could BARELY read his handwriting it was Bad. OOOOOH OH MY GOD THERES A TRAIN GOING BY I CAN HEAR IT HONKING this is a really ironic thing to be pointing out rn but its sooooo worth mentioning. its still honking this is fun. 🚂. anyway. her parents made her spend an entire summer fixing her handwriting bc that was like the One thing her teachers criticised. its Fine now but their motor function simply doesn't deliver in the handwriting department.

- had a VERY INTENSE special interest in aquatic life + marine biology growing up, like read every book about any ocean animal in any library intense. his parents eventually forced him to abandon it because its "not a good career focus" but he still perks up when anyone mentions fish. once talked neils ear off about the biodiversity of coral reefs for roughly 2 hours, neil took her to an aquarium for their first date. rip todd anderson you wouldve loved spongebob squarepants.

- looooves pets, namely cats, but they have Too Sweaty hands all the time so any animal fur sticks onto their hands and just feels. so awful.

- had a brief period in his 20s where he was definitely an alcoholic, started as a social drinker but got too addicted to the feeling of not having to adhere to social conventions quite as hard, especially around other drunk ppl. eventually went sober after they realised they just Cant Stand the feeling of a hangover anymore. autistic ppl r more likely to develop a dependency on alcohol if we do start drinking. just btw.

- gets a Pretty Expansive vocabulary after actually starting to pursue literature. sometimes his family lightly teases him about using big words but it confuses the hell out of him. its just a word she thought would apply best!!

- soooooo obsessed with what other ppls idea of them is, both in an anxious way and out of genuine curiosity. would never ask ppl what they think of her bc she thinks thats 1) very broad 2) seems compliment fish-y and 3) just gonna lead to "i think ur great/ nice/ whatever filler compliment." but the dream is to sit someone (neil) down and just ask him every single question possible about how he perceives him.

- asks a billion clarifying questions about anything someone asks him to do, gets anxious about how many questions he's asking, tries to just figure it out, freaks out about the possibility of getting it wrong, ends up doing the thing perfectly. weekly occurrence.

- never fully grasped the appeal of religion (most definitely grew up catholic or christian or Something) just bc she could NOT let the lack of proof go. ALSO not an atheist bc the vastness of space scares them out of it. religious beliefs r a weird topic for them.

- suppresses a good chunk of his stims in public bc One total time someone looked at him weird while he was chewing on a sweatshirt string and he was like i gotta stop NOW. eventually develops tics and has to mask THOSE in public too. dear god someone let this girl unmask. also i started ticcing while writing that bc my body does this great thing where i only tic when im reminded of the concept of ticcing. its great and totally doesnt make me think im faking them (faking for who? dunno bc it usually happens when im alone)

- DOES in fact stim around neil bc NEIL STIMS TOO!!!!!!!! joyous day when they found THAT out! gets vocal stims of random lines from whatever play neil is practicing for. YEAA ART THOU THEEEEREE was a vocal stim for a solid week and a half which made neil VERY excited (autistic neil. how i love u autistic anderperry)

- velcro is The most evil vile disgusting material to ever grace this mortal realm. he hates it more than anything ever and i mean that fully. the feeling of BOTH sides, the noise, how easily it comes apart, she hates it all.

this is the gender part

never really viewed gender and gender roles as anything to adhere to beyond the fear of punishment if they dont. finds any social convention relating to gender to be Really dumb and meaningless, bc gender isn't (scientifically) real in any capacity, so why treat it like that? for the longest time just shrugged and said "eh, i guess im a boy" bc thats what she was used to being told, and didn't feel particularly drawn to agree OR disagree. eventually realised on a late night that Wait. i dont Actually care what i am. like yeah im a Male i guess but also im just me. my brain doesnt have a gender and i basically am my brain, right? and then never really thought about it again because that's genuinely how little he cares. adhering the most to canon with that mindset, she never really tells anyone (for obvious reasons on top of the overall apathy) and just lets the he/him happen to her but. in my dream world? agender they/he/she todd anderson. and this is MY blog so those are the pronouns im using from now on. i will forever love talking abt how autistic ppl very often view gender differently than allistic ppl, will forever love talking abt how autistic ppl are more likely to be trans. autism!!!

also yes that entire paragraph is just my view of gender, change the pronouns and the todd mentions and its just me. what of it.

There's already a lot of 'female rage' web weaves on this website, but i figured why not do one myself? I think a lot of these web weaves either 1) tend to focus too much on biology (which is why I chose to say 'feminine' rage and tried to avoid a lot of cis female imagery. Fuck off TERFS) or 2) Choose photos or quotes taken sorta out of context? Especially when it comes to myths (like Persephone) and classical literature. I've sorta based this entire thing on 'Brutus' by The Buttress which is honestly such a fucking fantastic song, but the interesting thing about it is that it paints Brutus as, not only a female, but as someone driven by envy. I was really considering adding a quote or two from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, but in that play Brutus is specifically one of the only ones NOT driven by envy, his motives are pure. Idk, there's just something fascinating (in a positive way) about the fact that that envy appears the moment the character is female. I've also included a lot of small references that probably only I find interesting: I looked for paintings with figs as a reference to Livia Drusilla (augustus's wife who was rumored to have covered figs with poison to kill him), Beatrice from much ado because she's the best ever and I just absolutely love this rant of hers, and, of course, the pomegranates. I'm very aware that they often symbolize fertility (which goes agaist my whole 'no biology' principles), but idk I just love how bloody they look. They're a fruit. They're sweet, they're elegant, they're pretty to look at. They're blood red and they stain like hell if you're not careful. I just love how gore-y they look.

4 years. You endured 4 years as a student in the Akademiya. It was your graduation ceremony. 

“Please put your hands together for the valedictorian Alhaitham!” claps were heard throughout the gymnasium. You rolled your eyes at him before zoning out of his speech. That was until you heard your name being called.

“As for my dedication, I’ll be dedicating my speech to [Name].” Your head shot up. 

“And that concludes my speech.”

“...” Everyone was silent. The sage fake coughed before he asked.

“Are you not going to elaborate as to why…?”

“I don’t feel as if I need to.” was the last thing he said before he walk off the stage.

“Well, now we will be moving on to the awards.”

It was safe to say that people were getting annoyed at the fact that the only people who were getting any awards were you and Alhaitham. 

“For the creative writing certificate: [Name] and Alhaitham!”

“The mathematics award: [Name] and Alhaitham!”

“The science award goes to [Name] and Alhaitham…”

“Geography: [Name] and Alhaitham… Wait. I’ll be right back.” We watch as the announcer walks off to the back only to come back shocked. 

“Well, I’ve been told to call out all at the same time. Art, history, music, physical education, biology, chemistry, physics, social studies, technology, philosophy, graphic design, literature, algebra, and geometry will all be awarded to [Name] and Alhaitham.” 

“...” The gym was silence. No one said anything. 

The rest of the graduation proceeded as usual. 

It was only when the afterparty started when things got weird. 

The party was going fine but someone had spilled some juice all over the floor, so like a good person, I volunteered to get a mop not knowing what your friends had in mind. 

“Yeah, the mop should be in the broom closet!” One of your friends yelled as you made your way down the halls. Just as you opened the door you felt the sensation of hands pushing you. You collided with someone. Just before the door closed, you heard one of your friends say “Have fun!”.

“What's that supposed to mean?-” You were cut off be a deep voice.

“Could you stop pushing against me?” You let out a small yelp at the sudden voice.

“A-alhaitham?!”

“What?”

“Why are you here?”

“I came to get a mop but someone pushed me in here and locked it.”

“Wait. Was it because someone had spilled juice?”

“Yes and I’m guessing they got you too?”

“...”

“Why would they do this to us specifically?” He questioned before you gulped. 

“Probably because you like me…” You feel his breath hitch before he let out a scoff.

“There’s an error in your logic. I’ve never stated I’m romantically interested in you.” You think very carefully before blurting out that you knew what he said in Zulu.

“...”

“...”

“Hey, Alhaitham!” You called out to him.

“Hm?” He turned around to face you.

“I heard you can speak over 7 languages!”

“Yes, I can.”

“Wow! Tell me something in a different language.”

1 “Ufuna ngikutshele ini?”

“What did you say?”

2 “Ngiyakuthanda. Ngikuthanda kabi ngaso sonke isikhathi uma ungekho kimi, kungenza ngifune ukukhipha inhliziyo yami. Ngiyakubamba kakhulu, noma ukhuluma nentombazane kungenza ngibe nomona ngoba udonsa umoya kangangokuthi ngisho netshe lingawela kuwe.” 

“That was so long. What did you say?”

“Figure it out by yourself.” he said before walking away.

“Wha-! Come on! You can’t just leave! Tell me!” Unfortunately, he was out of earshot.

“How long have you known…?”

“I found out a week afterward. People had heard you and spread rumors… Someone came up to me and congratulated me on dating you…” You said as you tilled your head down, hoping he didn’t see your face growing red. Fortunately, he didn’t but that was because he was looking away so you weren’t able to see his ears growing red. 

“How long do you think we’ll be trapped here..?”

“Knowing them, they’ll probably forget. Let’s wait for a little bit and if not we can just break the door.”

“Whoa! This is someones house! We can’t just break the door down!” You said as your head shot up. 

“It’s their fault for locking us in here…” he said tilling his head down only to meet eyes. Silence overtook the closet as your eyes lock with his. Your eyes scan all over his face and you ultimately land on his lips. It wasn’t long before Alhaitham started leaning in. 

You started leaning in too but as soon as you wrapped your arms around his neck a shock ran through your body and you pulled away. Alhaitham raised an eyebrow. 

“A-are you sure you want this?” You asked. His eyes widened.

“You have no idea what I want.“ He said, snaking a hand to the back of your head before pushing your head towards him. The kiss was a lot more tender and passionate considering Alhaitham. It was a long, deep kiss that left you breathless. You pulled away trying to catch your breath. But Alhaitham followed your lips, wanting more. Your chest swirls at the feeling of care and affection behind the kiss. Warmth spreads throughout your body as your knees get weak. 

You finally break away. You huffed heavily as you try to catch your breath. You looked up at Alhaitham who was as red as a tomato. Your eyes widened before giving him a smirk. 

“Oh~? Is the all mighty Alhaitham blushing?“

“Shut up.”

“Wow. We literally just made out. Don’t tell me to shut up, bro.”

“Don’t “bro” me. I just had my tongue down your throat.”

5 Facts about Count Vladislaus Straud IV 

@holocene-sims Anna, thank you for sending this in and sparking my inspiration! I’ll be using this prompt as a character-building exercise for Vlad. He has absolutely grown into one of my favorite sims and it was long overdue. Warning, I wrote a lot over the weekend and I enjoyed every minute of it. 

In the pics above, I aged him down to create what he would’ve looked like as a young, gloomy nobleman. This would have been before he became a vampire. I gave him a softer, more melancholic expression, you’ll understand why. He's aged like fine wine, hasn’t he? Human Vlad or Grand Master Vampire Vlad, I can’t choose, I love them both.

Some notes: 

I used the Sims Wiki lore as a starting point but I never force myself to stick too strictly to what is canon with any of my premade sims. The lore gave me some good ideas though.

I kept the timeline vague because I’m pretty ignorant about historical time periods but I imagine Vlad was a human sometime in the 1800s. History buffs, feel free to correct me. I didn’t end up taking more pictures because I have no period-appropriate attire, oh well.  

Content warning: blood, violence, war, murder. He didn’t exactly have a fun human life.

Fact 1. 

Vlad was born into an upper-middle class family in Eastern Europe. His father was a high-ranking military officer, and his mother was a music teacher. As a child, Vlad was pulled in two directions: his mother wanted to cultivate his love for literature and his talent for music, while his father wanted him to follow in his footsteps as a military officer, and take interest in more traditionally masculine pursuits. He grew up in a home that was materially privileged but emotionally chaotic. 

After Vlad came of age, he followed his father’s wishes and joined the military, hoping to finally earn his approval and carry on the family legacy. Reserved, proper and soft-spoken, Vlad quickly found that he did not fit in with his peers, nor did he enjoy the harsh, physically intense, and strict authoritarian environment of the military. The bare conditions of the camps, the long and tiring days, and the constant travel made Vlad disillusioned with the life that he had been pressured to choose, and the career that lay ahead of him. His mother had desperately wished for him to study the arts at university instead, and Vlad would later wonder what life would have been like if he’d been brave enough to take a different path. 

Vlad’s performance as a soldier was poor. His meek personality, his weak physical strength, and his inferior performance made him the target of his peers and his superiors’ bullying. His father’s high status made his incompetence even more humiliating, and worse, prevented him from being dismissed from the military like the other flunkies. 

Fact 2.

One of Vlad’s formative childhood memories was when his father brought home a rabbit he had hunted, and forced the young boy to prepare it for his mother to cook. Vlad remembers being repulsed by the act of butchering the animal while his father instructed him in an increasingly loud and agitated manner. Finally, Vlad vomited from stress and disgust, then his father angrily took over. Vlad left the kitchen but the sound of the knife hitting the chopping block in a rage was heard all throughout the house. Later, dinner was eaten in silence. 

Vlad was traumatized by the incident, but afterwards became morbidly fascinated with animal and human biology, and mortality. He never quite saw the world the same way again.

Fact 3.

Vlad’s time in the army changed him into a tougher, crueler, and desensitized version of himself. He remembers how powerful he felt the first time he fought back against a fellow soldier who had been antagonizing him in the barracks, and won. He had never been one for violence until he discovered how good it felt to beat an enemy into bloody submission with his bare hands. He remembers the stunned silence of the onlookers, and how people acted differently towards him after that. He was treated with slightly more respect, or at least left alone more often. 

Vlad remembers the first time he killed someone in battle. He had downed an enemy soldier on the field with his firearm, and had gone over to check. The man was critically injured and bloodied, but not dead. Vlad then shot him a second time, in the head, at point blank range. He was later congratulated by his teammates who had witnessed the murder. Vlad remembers how the fallen enemy had been a young man, just like him. His face had been frozen in shock, his body convulsing with shallow, panicked breaths as he bled out. Vlad had shot him a second time to end his suffering. Vlad knew the reality of war was to kill or be killed, but he didn’t know if it was more ethical to end someone’s life or merely injure them enough to preserve his own safety. As the battles continued, he stopped caring. 

Fact 4.

During the war, a small team of 25 soldiers, including Vlad, was sent to an isolated, mountainous region (what is now Forgotten Hollow) on a reconnaissance mission to explore the possibility of setting up a military base in the area. While traveling through the woods, the troop was attacked by vampire bats, but Vlad was the only one bitten. Soon after, he became inexplicably pale, weak, and averse to sunlight, to the unsympathetic disdain of the others. He became hungrier than usual, and he found himself strangely fixated on the necks, exposed skin, and bloodied bandages of his fellow soldiers. 

Late one night, towards the end of the mission, Vlad overheard a group of soldiers talking as he was taking a walk by himself around the outskirts of the base camp to get some fresh air. Most of the others had already gone to sleep. Although he felt feverish, weak, and he had a piercing headache, his other senses, like smell and hearing, were strangely sharper than ever before. The soldiers were discussing the troop’s plans to abandon him at the site due to his weakened state and overall lack of competence as a soldier, and to explain away his death as an illness or an accident. Vlad realized this conspiracy to get rid of him had been brewing for a while, and they were going to seize the opportunity while he was mysteriously sick. The oddly small size of the troop and the suspiciously faraway location they were exploring suddenly made sense to him. 

An animalistic rage unlike anything he’d ever felt before took hold of him and he attacked the group, lunging at their necks. The next thing Vlad knew, he woke up in the middle of the campsite at dawn, feeling vaguely injured but not in pain, and surrounded by the drained, mutilated, and semi-devoured bodies of all his former troop members. The air was heavy with the smell of blood and meat. Vlad remembers how he was no longer hungry, weak, or scared. All he felt was a calm realization followed by relief that he had survived the ordeal.

Although the region would not make a useful military base or attractive settlement due to its isolated location and depressing weather, the surroundings did provide a strangely cozy place for a homestead. Surrounded by tall mountains, thick forests, and close to a few small lakes, Vlad had at last found his safe haven. Newly invigorated, he began to dispose of the bodies and the evidence, and build a shelter from the usable camp supplies left behind. It would be a while before the military sent another troop to check on them, and he had plenty of time to think about his alibi and future plans while he waited. No one would ever know what happened on that failed reconnaissance mission.

Fact 5   

War, betrayal, and trauma made Vlad a cruel, violent, and power-hungry ruler of the small town of Forgotten Hollow. At first, when the town was newly founded, he kept his vampirism a secret and fed on wild animals and livestock. As the decades went by, and more people settled into the town, he became bolder with terrorizing the residents, feeding on humans, and turning humans into younger and weaker vampires under his control. He also returned to the aristocratic lifestyle he had before his military service, building a mansion for himself and pursuing his interests in reading, music, and art. He cultivated the appearance of a charismatic, worldly, and well-groomed gentleman to covertly move through human society, and to better seduce and disarm his victims. 

Vlad’s reign of terror only came to an end when the other vampires in the town, particularly the Vatore siblings, banded together to overpower him and report him to the International Council of Occult Beings, a council headed by the world’s most powerful occult beings to govern the supernatural population. After a lengthy trial, as punishment for breaking numerous Vampire Code of Ethics laws, Vlad’s vampiric abilities were severely restricted by magic, he was exiled from Forgotten Hollow, and forced to live in the supernatural community of Moonlight Falls where he would be monitored and unable to act with impunity against a vulnerable human population.    

In the aftermath of his trial and punishment, Vlad is content to turn over a new leaf. He admits that at some point, his descent into depravity was no longer justified by his past. All he can do is resolve to change for the better, and he knows there will be harsher consequences from the Council if he does not obey their laws. He is even thankful to have the opportunity to rediscover the humanity and softness he once had a long, long time ago. He knows the regret and guilt he feels are signs that there is hope for him. Still, he wonders if the monstrous, evil side of him, the side of him that delighted in causing pain and terror, can ever be fully put back in its cage. He thinks it’s best if he isolates himself in his mansion and stays far away from everyone. 

These days, Vlad’s favorite pastimes are playing classical pieces on the piano, reading books by candlelight, and sipping on chilled packs of ethically sourced, cruelty free, non-human-based plasma from a wine glass.

hello! How do you think Aizen would be if he ever went to high school? What subjects would be his favourites, how implicated he'd be? How would he be with his classmates and teachers?

Oh I love these kinds of asks!!

I'll break this down by the questions in your ask. As forewarning, I'm Canadian, worked as a tutor for high school students, and have a very limited understanding of the Japanese school system, so that's the context I'll be working off of.

What subjects would be his favourites?

I think Aizen would be very drawn to History (not just of Japan, but even of other countries) as well as World Issues. But he's also fascinated by the basic sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics).

Depending on the literature that's being taught, I can also see him into Language studies (Japanese/English/French etc. whatever is being provided at his school). He's a big reader, but he also has Opinions. Whatever novel/play/poem is being studied, he's either going to dissect it, or pretend to care to get him that 90-95%.

If there's an introductory Computer Science class, Aizen will ace that class - if anything, he's learning how to code in multiple languages in his downtime.

That being said, he doesn't care for math. Like everything he does, he's excellent at it, but it doesn't stimulate him like other subjects (until he gets to university and takes Proofs).

How implicated would he be?

I'm going to take this as if in this high school AU, how corrupt would Aizen be, and I don't think he'd be completely treasonous by this point. BUT his high school years will be formative (as it is with many people!). I think he will learn and begin to understand the larger injustices in the world, and how, as a student and as a teenager, he has very little power, if any, to change. I think it will be the start of his radicalization.

He begins to understand that he fundamentally needs to acquire power, and maybe that starts off small in the form of being a class rep in his student council, and maybe by the end of high school, student council president. He is the person who will plan his life out, and is very strategic about what he does. Everything is calculated.

How would he be with his classmates?

I would like to imagine he's quite polite with them, but he's distant. You know that "student prince" archetype that is shown in shojou works? I can see Aizen getting that on him, but he's quite humble and doesn't like the fawning and flattery that comes with it. It isolates him further.

I think Aizen would rank in the top 5 of having the highest grades in his classes. Personally, I think Aizen is ok with not being the smartest - it bugs him sometimes though if it is Urahara who's beating him (and he always beats him in the sciences).

Like I can see grades for the basic sciences going like: 1. Urahara

2. Aizen

3. Senjumaru

4. Mayuri (for those who don't know, Mayuri LOATHES Senjumaru - in one of the databooks he wants to kill and dissect her. His hatred for her is second to Urahara. And so it pisses Mayuri off that not only is Senjumaru getting a higher grade than him, but Urahara is getting the HIGHEST lmao).

That being said, he won't tutor any of his classmates UNLESS his teachers "force" him to do so. I also don't see him as the type to ask for extra credit assignments, nor snitch on the class that there was an assignment due that the teacher forgot to collect. I can see people asking him if they can copy his homework, but he politely refuses.

I don't see him joining many clubs, but he would participate in student council and possibly a book club? And if his school has a newspaper, I can see him writing small pieces for that. I can see one of his language teachers asking him to publish some of his poetry though (Aizen refuses).

As for sports? I can see him joining maybe one sports club, but he doesn't really "push" himself on the team. He's just a benchwarmer lol. If they had archery or kendo, I can see him excelling in that, but he purposely sabotages himself so he never reaches nationals in his early years, until his final year.

How would he be with his teachers?

His teachers would think he's incredibly studious, polite and well-mannered. Some of them might wish they had a class filled with students just like him, but others would want him to interact with the class more. He doesn't give them problems, and he does enough to get praised, but he's not out here getting 100% on every assignment/test/project he does. He wants to still remain under the radar after all.

But his teachers will definitely be more than happy to provide reference letters when he applies for university.

It's incredibly jarring that my academic efforts are never, ever acknowledged by my family. They always choose to highlight my behavioral issues, borderline delinquency & numerous disciplinary measures against me which is like. I understand I was not a thankful student to work with. But in my 16 years of schooling, I succeeded in:

1) graduating from one of the only two classics-oriented middle schools in Croatia, meaning that by the time i turned 14 I had 4 years of Latin and 2 years of ancient Greek under my belt. I was able to recite and translate Cicero without a dictionary, placing 5th at the national competition in Latin and 9th in Greek (thus winning my school two awards that are still displayed there)

2) graduating from the maths and computer science program in the second highest ranked high school in Croatia (in terms of exam results and in terms of how difficult it is to get in, counting both public and private schools) where I took maths, croatian, english, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science theory, programming, latin, psychology, philosophy, history, geography, art history, music theory, logic, sociology, political science, religion class and gym (that is 20 classes, and they werent distributed evenly thruout 4 years, every semster Id have to take 16 classes at once and I was in school for almost 8 hours every day)

3) completing the Matura exams (croatian equivalent of SATs, though they were mandatory for me to take to be able to graduate) and ranking in the top 4% in maths, top 13% in Croatian, and top 2% in English (out of over 19,000 seniors who took the exams)

4) getting into my first choice college (5 years with a double major) and completing freshman year with a GPA of over 4 out of 5 (notably, I passed Elementa Latina which required me to take a written grammar and syntax exam, oral grammar and syntax exam, literature and culture exam & present my original translations of about 30 pages of Ovid, Caesar and Catullus)

And I know I faltered there. I know I went on to fail sophmore year and then retake it and fail again, I disappointed everybody, I did... I wasted the opportunity to go to college for free that so many would kill for. I'm entirely to blame. But I hate being reduced to this! I hate everybody acting like I never accomplished anything 😭 I'm fighting really hard to catch up to my peers and be more successful. But it sucks that everyone is always talking about what a disappointment my education has been...

Day 9/100 of Productivity

Hi everyone, welcome back to my blog! I hope you guys have been doing well. It's been a fun day, nothing amazing but it was nice. Let's get started.

I studied:

1.5 Hours of Physics (Radioactivity)

1.5 Hours of Biology (Endocrine system)

1 Hour of Literature

2 Hours of Grammar

Half an hour of Ethics

That means a total of 6.5 hours. I spent some time online, and some time just resting so it's not the best I could do but I think that it should at least be a little healthier because I spent some me time.

One of my goals for this challenge was socialising so I will also talk about that.

I spent some time with my family, there's a possibility that I may move to another city next year, (The relatively small city I live in doesn't have a good university) so I want to have a good relationship with them. I also spent some time with my friends. I feel sad that I usually neglect them, they're just fun to be around. At least we get to drink tea and chat every now and then.

What I think Darkley's Boarding School for Bad Boys would teach. PT 1: CORE CLASSES

First, DBB is a school of villainy. They want to bump out good villains (sorry Lloyd) that are actually SMART and KNOW what they're doing.

So! I think these would be the Core Classes they would teach. (Grade 9-12)

MATH:

9- Algebra 1 & 2 | Algebra is the base of many classes, and like I said, most villains have brains.

10- Statistics & Probability | Honestly, Statistics & Probability is really useful in your day-to-day life. For villains, they would need this for basically everything.

11- Pre-Calculus & Calculus | Pre-Cal & Cal is the base of a lot of advanced classes, and in this list, there are a lot of them.

12- Engineering | Villain would USUALLY build their own things. Even then, engineering is a good skill for a villain.

ENGLISH:

9- Lit/Comp | Decoding different types of literature. OR puzzles and such.

10- Humanities | Learning the rise and falls of Empires, ancient languages, and such.

11- Rhetoric | Learning how to think critically and write efficiently to persuade. For a Villain, this is a key factor.

12- Debate | Using what you learned last year to communicate your point of view to others. In a villainy context, knowing how to win arguments is important.

SOCIAL STUDIES:

9- Government | Learning that your government is fucked up. Learning the origins, development, and structure of a government. In the context of Ninjago, whatever its government is they will learn (as well as other types of governments).

10- Sociology | Studying social, political, economic, diversity, religion, crime, etc. Basically studying society in every good and bad way.

11- Economics | Learning about the economy and policies. For A villain, this would be pretty damn important.

12- Psychology | Learning about the human mind. Manipulation 101.

SCIENCE:

9- Biology | Studying life processes and how organisms live in their environment. The only reason I put this one down is because it's a base class of other things that would be useful for a villain.

10- Chemistry | Studying atom, molecules, and their interactions. For a regular villain, this isn't really needed. But it's background information for classes.

11- Physics | Studying everything in physical existence. This Class is needed for engineering and other thing.

12- Forensic Science | Crime scene investigation and reconstruction. Learning what went wrong and how to prevent it.

All these classes are really advanced, but you have to think about the teachers in Darkley's. (Literal Skeletons) and their dumb dumbs. This could be used as an AU of some sort but honestly, I just got hooked on the idea of Darkley's Boarding School being an efficient school with actual classes that kids can learn to be villains.

ahh i should have clarified that i myself don't have a degree (yet). i'm not from an academically inclined background so when i didn't do well in my first two semesters of university (i failed some classes and only barely passed others), i got very discouraged and saw it as a sign that university is just not for someone like me. i then learned a trade and have been working in the field; but i'm interested in going to university as a mature student and i'm going to apply this year for a BA :)

still, precisely because i don't have a degree it really upsets me that someone who used the chatGPT shortcut is a teacher now. teaching high school students is an academic profession, and it doesn't sit right with me how common it is for teachers to say things like "i learned so much useless stuff in university; none of which i need as a teacher"; it's actually really frustrating. then why do you go to university/become a teacher? ??? ????? (i mean i know why, because it pays well here.)

in our country, MA/MSc degrees are required for a lot of positions, so grad school isn't quite as "you're here because you choose to be" but still.. his sentiment is basically, since he teaches high school students it should just be sufficient to be able to teach them, what’s the point of a thesis? like ok with that sort of logic i could have been a teacher with just a high school certifcate. i think tbh there is a wider discussion here about how people just don’t value knowledge too.

he also later said that he sometimes regrets not just paying someone to write it for him and save himself a lot of time and trouble 💀to me that is just the epitome of being so full of yourself. he has just decided that he has what it takes to be a teacher and making him write a thesis is a waste of time because of that. lmao??

also I would like to point out that this guy is not my friend, just someone i met through a mutual friend (and they’re not exactly friends either, they work together💀) i talked about this with my friend and she said that he isn't even the first person she knows who has casually admitted to using chatGPT like this. i guess they feel emboldened to casually admit to cheating because they know that their peers won't report them because that would then make them look like snitches

Well first of all: fingers crossed for your BA applications !! Everyone got at their own pace, sometimes you need a few years to figure out how to best approach University!!

That is indeed upsetting that someone who does not value critical thinking and does not understand the point of research/research writing is teaching now. "I don't need it anyway/I did so much useless stuff at school/Uni" is such a dumb. dumb. Argument.

Like, I had to study German and Spanish and Latin and theology. I took the equivalent of AP biology and physics in school and learned how to use a soldering iron and identify rocks. I learned Roman Law, and company insolvency rules, and the procedure to contest a refusal to grant you a construction permit. During my PhD, I had to become proficient in advanced data-driven research methods and 2 different code languages. NONE OF THAT has anything to do with me job, whatsoever. I teach students about the International Court of Justice and some of them are Literature and History majors. I KNOW that their dazzling knowledge in embeddedness theories of international adjudication is NOT what will get them a job.

But it's not about the raw knowledge, it's about

1. Transferable skills: targeted reading, critical thinking, information gathering, writing for different audiences, time management, group work, self-reflection, project management, conflict resolution...

2. Learning how to learn: adapting to new situations, new rules and new logics; switching from one type of reasoning to another; picking up on new practices, new skills, as fast as possible, knowing how YOU best do that: on your own, with friends, listening, writing, visuals, with cues, independently, by teaching...

3. Putting your future work (and honestly, yourself as a person) in a broader context: knowing what the ICJ is to spot dumb and wrong info when you see it. Knowing that it MATTERS that we know different types of rocks, and therefore we should fund research on geology. Knowing quantitative research methods to know when they are used well and when it's bullshit. Knowing that Latin shaped some languages and not others, to understand the limits of translation itself. Knowing how 'generative' AIs work to understand that there is very little about them that is actually 'generative'.

I would evening argue that just being confronted with the sheer vastness of Things and Knowledge and Fields that are not yours has value in and of itself. It keeps you humble, aware that no matter how much you are knowledgeable on your one (1) thing, in the back of your mind, there is the knowledge that there is much, much knowledge you actually do not have and cannot claim to have. OR, in the wise words of Dan Olson on CryptoBros, to avoid being the kind of person that:

"assume that because they understand one complicated thing [...] all other complicated things must be lesser in complexity and naturally lower in the hierarchy of reality"

Welcome to whirling Wednesday! I say that because it seems to whirl right by. It can feel like spinning for hours on end and then suddenly the spinning stops and everything is a blur until refocusing. Unless, of course one spots, then the dizziness is held to a fix. Always remember to spot. My spot today was looking towards my phone call with my brother tonight. In this sense, I consider spotting to be something to look forward to at the end of the packed day. It keeps me focused instead of spinning in many different directions and losing track or motivation.

I need to sleep.

Tasks Completed:

Geometry - Learned how to find areas of triangles and quadrilaterals + practice finding areas of parallelograms, triangles, and trapezoids on KA + practice finding perimeters and areas of rhombuses and kites

Lit and Comp II - Reviewed units 4-6 vocabulary + read chapters 1-2 of Emma by Jane Austen + read about content issues in discussion notes + worked on my biography writing assignment

Spanish 2 - Reviewed vocabulary + read my speech out loud to my dad

Bible I - Read Deuteronomy 13-14

World History - Added to my timeline + took three quizzes on the American Revolution (not for a grade) + looked over key terms for the new unit + read the introduction to the Industrial Revolution, Nationalism, and Imperialism in the 19th Century + watched 15 minutes of episode 1 of Victorian Farm on YT (I saved the playlist and I might watch the rest of it when I have time. It looks good)

Biology with Lab - Completed cats genetics lab + reviewed vocabulary notes

Foundations - Read the definition of obedience + completed Lumosity daily brain workout + watched a video on using openers in public speaking + watched a video on the presentations by Steve Jobs + wrote the opener and closers for my speech

Piano - Practiced for one hour

Khan Academy - None today (It was already assigned)

CLEP - Completed Module 6 reading "Age of Revolutions" 10.1-10.3.4 + watched the Module 6 introduction video 6.0

Duolingo - Completed at least one lesson each in Spanish, French, and Chinese
