A Pictorial History of Costume
Dorine Van Den Beukel
The Pepin Press, Amsterdam 2001, 22x28,3cm, ISBN 9054960469
euro 25,00
email if you want to buy [email protected]
The 500 colour illustrations in this book date from the 19th century. They show the attire of the people in various parts of the world at different points in history.
Dating from the nineteenth century, this book is a collection of handcoloured, engraving illustrations. Often times, costume history books stay within the boundaries of the European culture, failing the reader who may want to see what the Mongoloids wore while Josephine pranced around France in her empire gown. This book, unabashedly illustrates without bias, different cultures that existed around the world at the time. Indeed, a very beautiful and invaluable source of research.

📚The Good Omens graphic novel Kickstarter mega post 📚
As we enter the last hours of the Good Omens graphic novel Kickstarter, here’s a recap of ALL the items you can get and how to get them. We’ll also answer some of the main questions you’ve had.
Get yours here!
*
TIERS
Tumblr media
THE HUMAN TIER (£25 GBP) includes one copy of the Good Omens graphic novel. All of the stretch goal embellishments (foiling, ribbon, foreword, afterword, extra pages, etc) cover every level (including early bird). Every backer also gets a bookmark. This also includes the foreword and afterword by Michael Sheen, David Tennant, and Jon Hamm.
*
Tumblr media
THE SERPENT TIER (£40 GBP) includes one copy of the Good Omens graphic novel, a dust jacket* featuring an alt cover by Frank Quitely and Loot Pack #1*, which is full of goodies. *Stretch goals have added to these items, full info below.
The alt cover dust jacket is now reversible, with the other side featuring this by Rachael Stott in b&w.
✔️Serpent gets the dust jacket for your graphic novel.
✖ It does not have a print of this image. The colour version is available as an add on.
Tumblr media
Loot Pack #1 originally featured 2 x Colleen Doran prints (including a brand new piece), a postcard and bookmark. Fans have unlocked additional Colleen prints, some colouring pages, as well as *many* prints from other artists… You have unlocked prints from Rachael Stott (different to the alt cover image), Sarah Graley, David Aja, Mark Buckingham, Tanya Roberts, Paul Kidby, Alice Oseman and Anna Morozova, as well as the Frank Quitely cover as a print.
Tumblr media
We’ve been asked a lot about Alice Oseman's prints, so to clarify: if you back the Serpent Tier or above, you will get Alice's print featuring Aziraphale, as well as the newly commissioned Crowley to complete the pair.
*
Tumblr media
THE HELLHOUND TIER (£120 GBP) includes the prior tiers + Loot Pack #2, ft. Crowley and Aziraphale enamel pins, stickers, and a pack of the Good Omens trading cards. These will be playable. Tier backers can also get rare cards in their order at random.
*
Tumblr media
THE WITCHFINDER TIER (£200 GBP) has all of this, plus an exquisite map by Julien Labit. Dimensions will be approximately 594 x 841 mm.
*
Tumblr media
THE DEMON TIER (£320 GBP) is a creative punch from head to toe, with five additional enamel pins (including Dog), some snazzy socks, and two creator themed notebooks, one for your inner Pratchett, the other for your inner Gaiman.
*
Tumblr media
THE HORSEMEN TIER (£500 GBP) is the Demon Tier + A3 Giclee print from the graphic novel, signed by Colleen Doran, plus the exclusive Beelzebub enamel pin, and Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett collector's enamel pin set.
*
Tumblr media
THE OBSIDIAN TIER (£3k) builds on the Horsemen Tier with copies of the new, limited Obsidian editions (GO illustrated edition, graphic novel & William the Antichrist), signed by Neil Gaiman & artists, and a one-of-a-kind trading card by Colleen Doran.
*
Tumblr media
For booksellers, we have two options: The Small Bookshop Tier (10 copies) and The Bookshop Tier (20 copies), both of which offer a 50% trade discount. There are also add ons of 10 and 20 copies for shops looking to order more.
*
ADD ONS
The campaign itself ends at 11.59pm UK time on 31 August, so there’s still time to get your pledges in. Let’s move onto the add ons via Kickstarter...
How do you add more to your pledge? This link on Kickstarter should help. You effectively re-select the tier you’ve chosen, and then it will take you to the add on section. This works even if your tier is sold out, or was time sensitive (Nightingale).
Tumblr media
Unlike tiers, you are not limited to one choice with add ons. You can get additional copies of the graphic novel, mugs, slipcases, the graphic novel oversized edition, and more. Rachael Stott's Eternal Encounter print is available also.
*
Tumblr media
A.Z. FELL & CO ADD ONS. Includes: Bookmark, mug, socks, tote bag. The bookmark is different / higher end than those included with every copy of the graphic novel.
*
Tumblr media
TRADING CARDS. You can get a trading card booster pack. These will have at least six cards. The Hellhound Tier is where to get the larger, playable base pack. Base packs will be available down the road via the new merch store, but cheapest via the Kickstarter.
*
Tumblr media
ENAMEL PIN ADD ONS We have two pairs of Aziraphale and Crowley pins (£10 per set). We also have mystery packs of three available (£12). You can see the full pin information and designs so far at http://goodomenshq.com.
*
Tumblr media
While pins #005 onwards will be part of the mystery packs, they may pop up at events or in flash sales of specific items. We will give fans as much notice as possible when these exciting events will happen.
*
Tumblr media
BOOKSHOP ADD ONS. Bookshops who have backed either of the retail tiers will be able to add packs of 10 or 20 additional books onto their pledge. These tiers must be delivered to a bookshop address. These are also at 50% trade discount.
*
Tumblr media
OBSIDIAN ADD ONS. While the Obsidian Tier collects all three books, you can add the Obsidian Edition of the Good Omens illustrated edition, the Good Omens graphic novel, or William the Antichrist - signed by Neil - to pledges at any level.
*
Add ons are available for every tier level. Add ons will also be available after the Kickstarter, however will be cheapest via the campaign. We know a lot of people have been asking, so if 31 August is too short notice, worry not!
*
FAQ
Q: Will the graphic novel be available after the Kickstarter finishes? A: Yes. It will be available via PledgeManager, and subsequently on goodomenshq.com when that becomes the wider merch store.
Q: Will tiers be available after the Kickstarter finishes? A: Yes. Some will be available for an additional time on PledgeManager to allow those who couldn’t access the Kickstarter for a variety of reasons. This will go live at some point after the project finishes.
Q: Will the add ons be available after the Kickstarter finishes? A: Yes. Though Kickstarter will be the cheapest way to get the add ons, these will be made more widely available at a slight price increase after the campaign ends.
Q: I couldn’t back the Kickstarter due to payment issues. Can I use Paypal / other methods? A: We believe PledgeManager will be able to integrate the wider payment methods, including Paypal, for those who couldn’t back with a card. This is TBC. Longer term, this will be an option on goodomenshq.com when it opens as the official merch store.
Q: Shipping is charged after. Why do we not have the final numbers yet? A: We’ve been working across the campaign to bring estimates down further; the page will have new numbers as we have them pre-31 Aug, however we will be working over the coming months to get the best price for backers worldwide once the weights are locked in. Our goal is to get the best value for supporters and not overcharge by locking in this early.
Q: If it will all be available later, what difference is there in backing the Kickstarter? A: All backers get an individual discount code for the Good Omens HQ merch store when it opens in the future, so you can get money off further items. We’ve got some fun things that we’re planning to do via backer updates post-campaign too. More on that… later. You’ll still get plenty of ineffable joy either way though!
Q: Is there anywhere I can sign up for updates? A: Yes! Good Omens HQ will have a mailing list. You can sign up here.
Get yours here!

Art Commissions (January 2023 update)
Hello there! I'm open to commissions again and will gladly do illustrations, fan art, character design, portraits etc.
[email protected] for any inquiries
(Detailed price list and general guidelines under the cut. )
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Basic Guidelines:
Long-time Patreon supporters (over 3 months) have a 10% discount (TIers 1-3) or 15% (tiers 4 & 5) from the base price.
Will draw: human/fantasy/sci-fi characters, animals and environments, realistic or stylised. Subtle NSFW content or moderate gore is up for discussion.
Won’t draw: excessive gore or heavily sexual content. I retain the right to refuse cooperation without explanation if the theme just doesn’t work for me.
Painterly portraits: If you’d like to order a highly detailed portrait like that (the examples are at the end of this long post), let me know! The price for such a piece will be between 300-500$ depending on the complexity (as it’s really time and energy consuming), but the result will be worth it!
I am asking tons of questions and provide consistent communication and updates while working on a commission, so be sure to stay in touch with me throughout the work process and prepare all the needed references and notes beforehand. Keep them brief, as I won’t be able to read pages of text just to find the needed references for the visuals.
PayPal is now available in Ukraine, so I can accept payments through it, as well as Patreon pledges.
I will post the resulting artwork on my social media with a thanks to my client if not asked otherwise.
After confirming all the details of the starting sketch you should proceed with the full payment. After that you’ll receive your commission in high-res within a week. Don’t hesitate to ask for a print-ready TIFF, PSD original file or cropped images for posting online, if you need them!
Additional notes:
Drastic changes to the ongoing work are only allowed while I work on the rough sketch. After moving on to clean line art and colouring if you happen to change your mind about certain aspects of the commission, you can request changes for an additional fee.
! I do not permit using my artwork for commercial purposes, to train AI datasets or selling them as NFTs!
! If it’s an original illustrative work, then as a client you may also use the image for promotion of your writing material on the internet and on printed promotional materials.
The artist is the creator and copyright holder according to the Intellectual property laws of respective countries.
More examples of B&W, flat colour, full colour and painterly portrait works:

Will be extremely grateful if you could reblog this post!
Thank you for your attention! Stay safe!
Much love, Дякую за увагу
Lethendralis
P.S.: if you'd like to see my daily updates, join my Patreon server or follow me on Twitter! (Lots of war updates and political discussions there, fighting disinfo about Ukraine as much as I can amidst the shitposting).

News on my upcoming Slipstream book
With about five more chapters to edit, the book version of my Tour de France AU Slipstream is (slowly) nearing completion. Above is a layout sketch for the binding. I hope to get the book ready for print before the end of March.
However, I got a bit of a shock when I checked what printing is going to cost. The book is going to be comparable to the book version of my fic Enigma, which means hardcover, 17 x 24 cm, over 500 pages printed full colour with at least one illustration per chapter (the Slipstream book will have a map and graphics of altitude profiles for the various stages, too). Prices have risen so much that I’ll have to pay about a third more to get the story printed compared to Enigma, meaning that copies of the book sold at cost would be between 35 and 40 US$ (plus postage, which isn’t cheap for international shipping, either).
Now I wonder whether people would actually be willing (and able) to pay that much. I’m thinking of having between 30 and 50 copies printed. The higher the number, the cheaper the single book will get, but I doubt there’d be demand for more than 50 in total.
So ... if you’re interested in your very own copy of Slipstream and not put off by the price, please let me know so that I can get a better idea of how many copies should be printed. As always, I will give away a few copies, too. And the fic will of course remain avaible on AO3.

Happy STS!
When you make up a character, how many details do you note down before you drop them into your work? Do you stop at the basics, how they look, their personality? Do you think about details, even if they might not come up, like a birthday, an exact age, likes and dislikes? Do you make up more stuff on the fly while you're writing?
Thinking of all the ask games going around, do you care about your characters' favorite colors and fruits?
Hello, hello! Happy STS!
When creating the main cast, for each OC, I start with a handful of basic traits and connections to other characters. In particular, I'll have a quite clear picture of who knows who at the beginning of the story, and which characters are meeting for the first time. The traits are dictated by the vague concept for the plot - what would get the character into the most interesting sort of trouble, and what creates tension between them and others.
Other traits come up naturally as I start writing interactions. I'll often write a bunch of throwaway slice-of-life scenes to get to know especially a new cast better, and figure out their essence.
I'm actually prone to forgetting to include characters' descriptions. I'll visualise them without quite realising it, and then the image just sticks. When I remember to include it, I'll often come up with some details on the spot and put them down to keep writing - I never do the '[insert description here]' tags in my drafts.
And a lot of especially side characters are in a position of authority and proven to be competent at it, so their personalities are dictated by what sort of person would do well at their job.
As for favourite colours, etc., I've answered a question about it here, and hopefully this will illustrate that yes, I care, but only if I can write a 500+ words scene explaining why it's important. If I can't - the character won't have a preference😅

The Anatomy of Fashion
Why we dress the way we do
Colin McDowell
Phaidon, London 2013, 272 pages, 24,6x31,5cm, ISBN 8670714849478
euro 79,95
email if you want to buy [email protected]
Why do we dress the way we do? Why has fashion changed and evolved over the centuries? How did the 3-piece suit come about? Why have hemlines risen and fallen over time?  In The Anatomy of Fashion, respected fashion commentator Colin McDowell goes beyond standard fashion histories and narrative surveys to answer these questions and many more.
Uniquely structured, taking the reader through fashion and dress from head to toe - the whole body is anatomized into sections including ‘The Body Unclothed’(Skin and Body Adornment, Materials and Texture, and Colour and Pattern), ‘The Body Anatomized’(‘Head to Waist’and ‘Hips to Feet’), and ‘The Body Clothed’(Looks and Themes in Dress). Visually rich, with over 500 photographs, illustrations, paintings and film stills, the book includes work by designers and labels such as Ralph Lauren, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Versace, Carhartt, Diesel and more.
The book's dynamic structure and layout are equally suited for browsing and for serious reference, but The Anatomy of Fashion is not simply a picture book. It is a sourcebook by one of the world's leading fashion scholars that seeks nothing less than a thorough analysis of the roots of every aspect of fashion today.

A CHRONICLE OF ENGLAND, B.C. 55 - A.D. 1485 written and illustrated by James E. Doyle; designs engraved and printed in colours by Edmund Evans. (London: Longman. Green, Longman, Roberts, & Green, 1864). Profusely illustrated in full color.
One of only 500 copies printed. A wonderful early color illustrated book with over 80 drawings by James Doyle (brother of Richard Doyle and uncle to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle). This volume was a major achievement at the time, being one of the first books to have color illustrations printed on the same pages as typeset text pages. Even more impressive are the extraordinarily bright, vivid color illustrations printed from woodblocks engravings in as many as ten colors per illustration. The book details the events from the landing of the Roman legions in England to the Battle of Bosworth Field near the end of the Wars of the Roses. An important achievement in the advancement of illustrated books.

Hi! Beginner synth anon here! I think you were pretty helpful! I felt this was the place where I could freely ask for advice especially as a woman of colour. My bf plays around with synths but as I said before I don’t know how to play music and I didn’t want to look stupid asking.
But anyways I was looking at beginner affordable synths and many suggested online the behringer TD3 or korg minilogue. Of course I wanna do more research because I can’t afford to drop $500 on something I don’t know my way around. I hope this helps a bit! I’ll be looking into this a bit more after the holiday period.
I'm a fan of both Korg and Behringer products and utilize both regularly in my setup. A good "easy" synth for beginners might actually be a Behringer WASP, which is what I use to create a lot of my lingering drones. The WASP also easily integrates with other instruments, especially pedals, so you can manipulate its sound with ease. I might reblog a couple of posts here of my drone creations to illustrate exactly what it can do when hooked up to the right pedals (and to other synths like the KORG MS-20 Mini).
In any case, I'm glad I could be of help! Don't feel stupid for asking or for experimenting in a way that makes sense to you, either. We all start somewhere. Nobody is a synth wizard overnight - even the legends and the artists we post on this blog started out as novices once. Take your time to really get to know your instrument(s) inside and out, and like I said, just be experimental and have fun with it!
