Rambling about how using Shinsou’s Quirk on Machia isn’t that heroic
I guess maybe I should blame the fact I used to be a “Code Geass” fan… but I’m actually not positively impressed by how the heroes brainwash Machia to use him against All for One.
For who’s not familiar with “Code Geass”, the main character has a special power, called Geass, that allows him to command anyone to do whatever he wants, though he can do it only once per person. Around the end of the series his power is discovered and judged vile because it tramples over people’s free will.
You might remember how Shinsou was troubled by his Quirk because he feared it were to be perceived as a Villain Quirk (chap 34) but then his classmates in the general studies painted it as a great Quirk to use against Villains, so the point of Shinsou’s Quirk being a Villain Quirk was dropped.
As far as I’m involved though, Shinsou’s Quirk was never a Villain or a Hero’s Quirk, it’s just a Quirk and it’s the use Shinsou does of it that decides things.
For example, using it on his companions in the Cavalry Battle without warning them? Not really good, since in that moment they were supposed to be allies and instead he took advantage of his power to step over their will.
Use it against Midoriya? Completely fair since it’s a battle of Quirk and that is his own Quirk.
Use it to trick All for One? Absolutely fair, he’s an enemy and Aoyama’s parents were forced to cooperate with All for One, they didn’t do it willingly, so I don’t know if they explained them about it or not, but I don’t think they would be too against it.
But… use it to control Machia so it’ll go fight against All for One?
It means dehumanizing Machia, using him as a weapon as a robot to toss in battle against All for One, when all Machia wants is to serve All for One.
They’re basically forcing a prisoner to do their bidding, uncaring of his will. Machia might have preferred dying than attack All for One. Never mention they’re also endangering him, tossing him in a war against his will, making him fight people he doesn’t want to fight.
Now, don’t take me wrong, I’m all for tossing mountains to All for One, and possibly during him under a dozen of them but… I can’t see as good and heroic brainwash and use Machia. It feels like dehumanizing him, using him as an unwilling weapon.
Wasn’t it low when Dictator used his Quirk on helpless civilians to force them to fight Deku? How using Shinsou’s Quirk on Machia makes things better?
I really wonder if it will be addressed in the story because part of why people ended up as Villains was because heroes and common people mistreated them. Machia, even when merely wandering in the city asking for info, was seen as scary, a monster, just for his look. Now he’s seen as a tool by the heroes, something they could strip of his freewill and use.
It would be interesting to see it being addressed. But well, we’ll see.

Bakugou was not a jealous man. He was confident in your love for him and was completely fine with you having a guy best friend. Izuku Midoriya. It was fine, he has worked through the kinks with the boy and now they were good. Besides, he wasn't going to dictate your friends. The two of you aren't romantically into one another. Everything was completely fine. You like him. Nothing is wrong.
He repeated these lines in his head as he stares at your figure sitting on the couch across the room. You were sleeping and looked so cute, but the only problem is, you were passed out on Izuku.
You use both of your arms to wrap around his muscular one and are gently snoozing with your head conveniently on the soon-to-be hero's upper arm.
Izuku, knowing the blonde well enough, offered to move immediately when he saw him walk into the room. But, Katsuki, as stubborn as he is, brushed it off and pretended it meant nothing to him. Which it does. It doesn't mean anything, it's good that you are sleeping. You need to rest.
It was fine. You were just sleeping, you probably didn't even mean to cling to your best friend. He knows exactly how clingy you were in your sleep. Besides, Izuku doesn't even seem to take much notice, chatting away with the rest of his classmates.
Almost like he was used to this. Katsukis eye twitches, and he scowls. It was fine. Completely fine.
A whine slips from your lips and everyone's eyes fall to you. In your half-awake state, you turn your body closer to Izukus and throw a leg over his. You quietly murmur, “Kats..”, before nuzzling your head into the arm and going back to sleep.
Izuku laughs and ruffles your hair affectionately. The class begins their dramatic cooing and begins to snap as many photos as they could.
Katsuki clenches his fist. If he sees one photo of you curled up to the extra he knows he is going to lose his mind. Especially when you are mumbling his own name.
His stubbornness can go to hell.
He stands up and paces over toward the two of you, and Izuku turns, smiling hesitantly knowing what's to come. Your classmates whine about their pictures being ruined. He ignores them and then process scoops you up, gently moving your arms from Izukus to his own, and holds back a grin when you immediately latch onto him.
He walks back to the couch, he was alone on, and plops himself down, before repositioning you to make it comfortable for the both of you. You cling onto his forearm and sit on his lap facing his chest. He gently pushes the back of your hair, so you lean your head into the crook of his neck and rests his hand there for security.
Once satisfied, he huffs and leans back against the couch with an arrogant half-grin. He pauses, waiting for the rush of his classmates, but nothing happens. His scowl appears again. “Well, aren't you extras going to take some damn pictures?” He scolds, and as on cue, his classmates start rushing over.
You begin to stir awake at his booming voice and pull yourself away from his neck. “Katsuki?” You mumble, trying to fight away the sleep.
He looks down at you with a frown and pushes your head back into his neck. “Sleep.”
You just sigh, squirm to get more comfortable, and finally drift back to sleep. He looks up at his classmates, who are silently freaking out.
“Continue.”
He already dreads the moment when he has to ask Eijiro to send the photos to him.

Did you notice how some AFO fans who used to like DFO Theory started to hate it and suddenly attack the same fans? Maybe this is due to generalizing DFO as OOC? I once saw someone saying that "to respect someone else's opinion, just remember that you have also changed your opinion several times" but these people only seem to attack what they once liked for no apparent reason, other than "nooooo my beautiful AFO is not like this 😭😭"
Tumblr media
Yes, it is a trend that I did notice when I first came into the fandom that a lot of people would say they are former DFO. Then say how they realize how 'stupid' the theory was and unrealistic. As if suddenly now they are the pinnacle of rational and totally know everything about a fictional character.
I never claim my interpretation is the canon, because I know I could end up wrong. That just how it is and I'm always willing to adjust my headcanons with the source material. But honestly I think the AFO fans that liked DFO and now hate it only changed because other people started being hostile to the theory.
Like popular writers, artist, and all kinds of people begun to sneer at that interpretation beside those in the little community. Seeing it as just trying to 'soften' AFO or as something gross to do to the MC. Or worse some people like DFO but hate AFO so when the former DFO see that they change their mind to double down on disliking DFO as they LIKE AFO. As they see it as like you said 'softening' him to make him palatable. The theory itself, however, is only parentage.
Like it still be valid to assume AFO had Izuku with Inko from a One Night stand, and Hisashi Midoriya is just the guy that stepped up for single mom Inko. We have evidence of there possibly being more aware but if don't like it then that an option too.
DFO theory is simply the theory that Izuku Midoriya is RELATED to All for One. That is the bare bones minimum, I don't care if you are OH HE LOVES HIM or HE AN EXPERIMENT or whatever you want to believe. None of that really registers much to me nor should matter, like DFO can be used in many manner of ways.
The ones that seem to hate is most... Well they tend to either want Virgin All for One (for sexual reasons) or want him to be purely asshole(for sexual or just because love assholes that can go either way) or maybe fear of being the outsider. There also many who claim that every time he does a more evil act that it PROOF he never father a child.
Like tell me you never had a mentally unstable parent that does outrageous things. Anyone can have a kid, it sure doesn't take much for a guy to one and done for various reasons. We also literally been confirmed now he can change his face, DNA, and has actually done so. Also we've seen how he is with Yoichi, literal proof of his ability to love it just dark and twisted.
It why DFO is so interesting since if is the child of AFO it an avenue to explore his character. How WOULD AFO raise a child now that we knows what happened with Yoichi? Is he aware of Izuku? Does he care? We've seen him vault family and say how precious family is.
But then, none of that matters to the former DFO fans who now are DFO hates. They just don't want to be the weirdo outsiders believing in something that isn't even 'canon' and as I've said many times. I'm not exactly going to stop writing or enjoying it even if it NOT canon.
No one can dictate what I like and enjoy. And those people projecting hatred once they loved it?
I hope they know it ok to just like different things and change your mind. They should be happy with what they like instead of just wanting to be 'right'.

Hello! I'm here to ask your opinion on a certain future seeing man named Nighteye.
Not only is he one of the many adults that failed Izuku by teaching him squat on his work studies, but he's a special kind of scum by actively TRYING to make Izuku feel insecure enough to give up OFA and pass it on to Mirio instead!
Like, dude! Seriously!?
Imagine being so butthurt over not being able to choose who the next successor of OFA should be (Even though it was ultimately All Might's decision), that you take your frustrations on the person you're supposed to train.
Couldn't be me!
And sadly, much like Bakugou and Aizawa, he never gets called out for this and is treated like a wonderful person who died for a worthy cause.
Fuck Nighteye I swear.
Hi @theloganator101 👋,
Absolutely fuck Nighteye. I never, ever liked this guy and despise how the narrative tried to treat him as a 'troubled but good guy' coupled with the manipulative redemptive death when actually he was a nasty piece of work.
Let's go over real quick exactly why I hate him, you actually covered some of it already;
His treatment of Izu in his workstudies. You covered this already but I'll add my 2 cents - work studies are meant to help the hero student whereas Nighteye does nothing of the sort for Izuku. Mirio helps Izuku more (the one good thing that came from this is Mirio and Izu being good friends but Nighteye has squat to do with that.) Nighteye actively undermines Izuku (when the poor kids confidence was already on the damn floor) and tries to force him to give up OFA to Mirio.
His treatment of Mirio - while I can buy that Nighteye cared for Mirio to a degree, this isn't some benevolent mentorship no matter how the narrative tries to paint it now. Nighteye looked at Mirio and saw All Might 2.0 - a young version of All Might he could manipulate and mold to his own wims. That is vile. What's more vile is that Mirio is never given the courtesy of finding this out. He's left with this, wrongfully benevolent memory of Nighteye laughing while Mirio remembers the good times of his mentorship with him which feels ick to read when you know Nighteye's true intent with Mirio.
His treatment of All Might - I always got the vibe that instead of treating All Might as a friend and an equal, Nighteye seemed to treat AM as a thing he wanted to own. The key examples of this are; trying to dictate to AM when he should retire (could be read as concern on it's own) then leaving as his sidekick when AM refuses to do as Nighteye wants. As well as trying to dictate who gets OFA next, not respecting that All Might CHOSE Midoriya. Then lastly all the AM merch Nighteye owns doesn't come off as innocent fanboying like Izuku. It comes off like Nighteye is trying to own All Might's visage when he can not own the actual man. *Shiver* (I have no idea why so many fics paint Midoriya as a creepy AM fan - guys Nighteye is right there.)
To conclude, Nighteye always came off to me in how he acted as a Narcissist, in how he treated Izuku, AM and Mirio. So to then have the narrative give him a 'redemptive death' to also write out his foresight really left a sour taste in my mouth. To make matters worse I don't think he actually apologised to Izuku ever...

GamerZuku:
1: does he get OFA here and what would it do to his quirk?
2: since he has a quirk, is Aldera bad for him or is it better?
3: what skills does he focus on to prepare him for hero course entrance exams?
4: can he see others stats and quirk descriptions?
Thanks for answering! I just love Gamer!Izuku stuff!
I have not decided yet if he gets it. If he did, it was immediately increase his QRK stat to about 500 (stats max out at 999). Additionally, stats can fluctuate. Normally this is a small thing like your stats being a bit lower at the end of the day because you're tired, but when Midoriya activates OFA, his STR and DEX stats shoot up really high as well.
Aldera is so much better for him, though there are the occasional jokes that his Quirk is basically cheating when he reveals he can up his stats, since INT dictates your ability to comprehend and retain information.
Kendo and Karate. Practicing at these lessons is a form of skill grinding, stat grinding, and small EXP gain, and he can use his levels to master them even faster. He also ups his Quirk Analysis a few times
This is an odd question to answer because the answer is Yes in two different ways. If he ups his QRK enough then the Quirk Stat descriptions become more detailed, an his Quirk Analysis Skill has a very similar passive effect.

And the Room Falls Silent
For kids, turning four was the year that would make or break them. In a hero-based society, quirks dictated worth.
Izuku’s life was considered over the moment he was confirmed to be quirkless. After losing everyone who cared for him and being bullied by those he was close with for everything he said or did, Izuku shut down.
Izuku developed symptoms of a severe social phobia at the ripe age of six. Inko was shattered, watching as her brilliant and bright child faded away. Not only did she start getting reports from the school that Izuku wasn’t speaking at all, he no longer talked with her.
Midoriya pointed and shook his head to speak. With the silence, Izuku started to cry a lot more. Despite all of that, Izuku did technically speak every day. It was only one phrase. Inko could barely hear it with Izuku's face buried in her shoulder.
“I love you, Mom.”
Izuku never left the house and strayed far away from the playground after he returned home with bruises one eventful day. Inko didn’t want him to leave anyways. Inko felt better knowing he was safe at home. Even after Izuku went completely mute at six, he still had aspirations to become a hero. He continued his hobby of writing in his notebooks and buying All Might merchandise.
Izuku's shut-in habits carried on for the rest of elementary all the way through middle school. Izuku had no friends and he didn’t bother trying to pursue having a social life. Having no distractions allowed him to focus on school. He had the highest score in his class for a reason. He often tied with Katsuki for first place in terms of intelligence. Katsuki didn’t like that.
Even if Izuku admired Katsuki from afar, he never let his biggest bully notice. Izuku avoided Katsuki to the best of his ability. Even if Izuku made effort to stay away, Katsuki chased. He'd never admit it, but he stalked Izuku.
Katsuki hadn't planned on spying on Izuku in the beginning. He assumed Izuku was ignoring him to act higher than him. Then it turned into spying. It was a shock to Katsuki after following Izuku, to find seeing that he refused to speak to anyone. If necessary, he’d use sign language to convey a message or write it down.
Once it became clear to Katsuki that Izuku was mute and not ignoring him, the situation shifted a bit. Suddenly he waited for the moment when he'd hear Midoriya's voice again. He wanted to know if it deepened or if it was still high-pitched and girly. Soon it sank in that he'd most likely never hear Midoriya's voice again.
In most of their classes, when you were called on, you answered the question on the board. You didn’t have to really say it out loud unless it was necessary for the subject matter. Izuku was able to get through school with close to no problems. He endured the bullying and pushed forward.
Inko had done her best to help. She tried everything in the book: speech therapy and child psychologists, and she sought out a pediatrician. Not much could be done. She tried all the tricks they offered her: shaping, self-modeling, and the list goes on.
It became clear the trigger of it was bullying and the traumatizing experience he endured at the ripe age of four. His dreams were shattered and everyone turned their back on him at a time when he needed support the most.
Izuku did see a therapist to open up about his bullying, but still only ever used sign language. When Izuku was being confronted by his bullies (classmates and teachers) he never once spoke. He had no desire to be a part of the world that surrounded him. He enjoyed submerging himself in the quiet.
Despite the odds, Izuku managed to save Katsuki from the sludge villain and impress Toshinori. Izuku had spoken to Toshinori, feeling safe and excited enough to use his words. Just like that, Izuku was on his way to obtaining the most power quirk to currently exist.
Izuku built a really strong bond with Toshinori, discussing his life and how he was selectively mute. Toshinori was grateful Izuku opened up about his life. While Izuku dedicated ten months to training from U.A. Toshinori dedicated ten months to learning sign language. While he didn’t have to use it to speak to Izuku, he wanted to make it easy for Izuku to talk to him.
Izuku probably had no one in his life that he could easily talk to by using sign. Izuku most likely had to write everything out for people to understand. It wasn’t ideal when he was Izuku’s mentor.
Izuku makes it into U.A. High and kept to himself. On the first day Uraraka thanked Midoriya for saving her. Iida greeted Izuku, beyond impressed with Izuku’s bravery. Izuku made it known he was mute, but he could hear. While it didn’t make them hate him, it kinda created a barrier in terms of communication. Everyone was beyond nice, but Izuku didn’t really click with anyone.
Being the current wielder of One for All, Izuku took control of how to handle his quirk development. As a result, Izuku was more open with Aizawa. He explained that he didn’t have a lot of experience with his quirk. His body had to become strong enough to withstand the tole his quirk would have on him. Aizawa recognized that Izuku had spent his time preparing for his quirk since he couldn’t train something he legitimately couldn’t use.
Aizawa was the second person to earn Izuku’s trust. Izuku still didn’t say more than a few words and he didn't speak to Aizawa if others were present. No other teachers or students had heard Midoriya’s voice.
Kirishima and Todoroki were the first two to hear Midoriya’s voice out of the class. Katsuki was also there, but it was the first time he’d heard Izuku speak since he was six.
It was during the USJ attack. Izuku leaped into action to save Toshinori.
“You stupid villain!”
If it hadn’t been in the heat of the moment, the three would’ve been more surprised by him speaking rather than the fact Izuku was about to die. Katsuki was undeniably unnerved. He was so used to the idea of Izuku’s voice still being exactly how it was nine years ago. It really got to him when Izuku’s voice was significantly deeper and he sounded so angry you could hear the words ripping through his vocal cords.
Then the sports festival came around, it went smoothly at the start. Izuku won the first event, had a great group during the second event, and was now in the final event. Izuku was against Shinso first. Ojiro was very aware Izuku was mute, but he was now aware Izuku could speak if he chose to. After filling in Izuku about Shinso’s ability to brainwash a person once they speak, Izuku thanked Ojiro. It meant a lot to him for Ojiro to seek Midoriya out to help him.
When the round started, Shinso went on a tangent. Izuku listened but ignored the anger that brewed in his gut. Shinso may have been saying those things simply to provoke Izuku, but it was extremely disrespectful for his life story to be assumed by someone he never met before.
Izuku had to fight quirkless considering he could really hurt Shinso if he used his quirk. He couldn't control his output so there was a slim chance he could kill Shinso. So they duked it out. It didn’t take too long for Izuku to knock Shinso out of bounds.
When going against Todoroki, Izuku knew what he was dealing with. Todoroki had told Izuku about his reasons for not using his second quirk: fire.
Midoriya understood what Todoroki was feeling. The effects of how he was treated by being quirkless resulted in a long list of problems. Izuku couldn’t begin to imagine the effects abuse had on him, not to mention the dysfunctional family not providing any help.
Izuku saw past all of that and knew Todoroki needed help. While he wasn’t going to throw away the competition, he wasn’t going to let Todoroki struggle either.
Izuku found himself yelling at Todoroki. Izuku wanted to test the waters, but ultimately just had to push Todoroki’s buttons. Despite the pain both Todoroki and Izuku were enduring from their battle. This match was a lot more than just winning the sports festival.
Then came workplace internships to gain experience. Hosu was under attack and the Stain incident occurred. Izuku managed to become a “true hero” alongside All Might. It was impressive considering Izuku is the second person Stain has claimed to be a true hero. The situation brought Izuku, Todoroki, and Iida closer together.
When final exams rolled around, working with Katsuki to go against Toshinori was a strange situation. Katsuki was still beyond temperamental. Everyone knew the two didn’t along and Katsuki was still hostile towards Izuku. The fight was brutal and the two teens had their air knocked out of their lungs more times than they could count.
Izuku still had yet to speak directly to Katsuki. Katsuki overheard Izuku talking, but Izuku still hadn’t spoken to Katsuki. Imagine his surprise when he is punched in his puke-covered face by Izuku to hear his yelling.
“Don’t you dare say you’d rather lose!”
The final exams ended and summer arrived. Summer would've gone great yet their "summer vacation: went horribly wrong. The league of villains decided to ambush the teens.
Izuku hadn't spoken the entire trip until he was alone with Kota. He hated seeing Kota give up on the world just like he did. After all the child was only five. In hopes to change Kota’s fate, he spoke up.
“If you reject it that harshly, the only person getting hurt is yourself,” explained Izuku, patient with the kid who had an explosive personality like Katsuki.
While Kota didn’t react well to Izuku’s advice, he was enraptured by Izuku’s voice. When he kicked Midoriya in the balls, Mandalay shunned him but also revealed Midoriya was mute.
Muscular appears and he is out for blood. Muscular tried to kill Kota and Izuku was not going to let it happen. In a fit of panic and rage, Izuku screamed out. Seeing Kota use his quirk in desperation ignited a fire in him.
“As if… I’d let you kill him!”
Not even moments later, Katsuki was kidnapped and in the midst of despair, Izuku couldn’t stop the scream that echoed through the forest. That also didn’t stop his scream that conjoined with the crowds in the final battle between All Might and All for One. It seemed as if the world was coming back together just to fall apart again.
During the provisional hero license exam, Izuku once again had to scream. It was targeted at Todoroki and Yoarashi for almost getting Shindo killed.
“Dammit! What are you two doing!”
Izuku’s blunt choice of words helped the two get their asses back into order and focus on the mission at hand. Soon enough the provisional hero license exam ended and the results were in.
While Todoroki and Katsuki were away for their required remedial course, Izuku would face his biggest battle yet. Alongside the big three, a handful of his classmates, and some pro heroes, Izuku was to rescue a wonderful girl name Eri and help defeat the villain Overhaul.
Izuku was a lot more vocal in this fight for Eri’s sake. Despite his mind holding him back at the thought of others hearing, he shut it down and kept his focus on Eri. Nothing matter except saving Eri. Calling out to Eri was the most freeing and horribly exhilarating thing.
After recovery and returning back to school, it was time to prepare for the school festival. For a bit, things were perfect. Izuku could fall back into the shadows and relax. He didn’t have to speak and could enjoy time with Mirio and Eri.
Eri was amazed that Izuku was selectively mute. That meant she was super special for Izuku to have spoken to her. Izuku was fond of her reaction, flashing her a bright smile.
One weekend class 1-A wanted to go to the mall. Aizawa decided it was also the perfect time to show Eri the outside world. Eri stuck with Izuku, missing him from not seeing him much after the school festival.
Todoroki and Katsuki for some odd reason were the two that wandered around Izuku. You could blame their curiosity on Eri. She was stuck on his hip yet they had no idea how she knew Izuku. The mission Izuku was a part of was confidential.
Things never went smoothly with class 1-A. Aizawa had taken Eri for a bit while Izuku went to the bathroom. Despite his keen eye, Aizawa lost Eri. Izuku knew something fishy was happening. The last time he was in the mall, he was attacked by Shigaraki.
Half of the class stayed inside the mall while the other half was to observe the outside in case she wandered off far. Izuku, Todoroki, and Katsuki are stationed outside. Izuku was on the top floor of the mall, running around on the catwalk.
Izuku has no clue where to look or what to do. The panic settled in and people were everywhere. While everything in his head is screaming at him to return to the quiet and retreat, Izuku talked a deep breath and calls out into the world.
“Eri-chan!”
Izuku was turning around in circles, his mind reeling at the fact she could be anywhere. Todoroki and Katsuki heard Izuku call out and started head over. While they were trying to get to Izuku, Izuku spotted something out of the ordinary.
A car was approaching. Whoever was at the wheel drove sporadically. Taking a look at the diver, he immediately recognized the man as a villain. Seeing no one was in the car, Izuku went to work.
Stepping onto the railing, Izuku jumped off and down a level. Izuku ran forward, launching himself down the building. Once reaching the ground, Izuku landed right before the speeding car. Katsuki was blasting his way over, screaming for Izuku to get out of the way. From his view, the driver was now trying to swerve out of the way, but they weren’t going to make it.
Todoroki was sending out ice, trying to build an ice barrier between Izuku and the car. Despite their worries, Izuku had it under control. Izuku turned away from the car, drew back his leg, and t-boned the car with a single kick.
Katsuki and Todoroki stilled, seeing Izuku demolish the car with ease. When the two caught up to Izuku, they soon realized this was going to be the getaway driver. Moments later Aizawa alerts everyone Eri was found and the villain was arrested. Todoroki informs Aizawa about what happened and another police officer was sent their way.
Izuku and Eri were reunited. Eri jumped into Izuku’s arms and Izuku rested her on his hip. When the police came for a statement, Izuku grabbed a pen and wrote it down. He was not in the mood to talk.
Todoroki had no problem with Izuku’s silence and sighed to himself. “I thought you were going to die back there.”
“Yeah! What the hell was that nerd! Trying to get yourself killed?” shouted Katsuki.
Izuku smirked at the two before shrugging and walking away with Eri. While Katsuki was left standing there with a pissed frown, Todoroki mindlessly followed after his friend with a smile.
Silence was a bitch.
The end!

GO, TENYA, GO!!!
THE HANDS!!! THE HANDS!!! 😭😭😭💙💙💙
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"... it's those who will fight alongside him in the journey." The 2nd User gets it!! You damn right!!
"Let go." IZUKU, SHUT UP RIGHT NOW, YOUNG MAN!!
HE CRIED AT TENYA'S WORDS!!! HE CRIED!!
GAVE MY CLASS REP HIS TITLE SCREEN, HELL YES!! 💙💙💙
Oh, they put Katsuki's hero name!! NICE!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
NICE CATCH, KIRISHIMA!!! YOU GO, BOY!!
"But... I'm scared." Izuku... please...
Oh, Katsuki Bakugou walking up, I know where this is going. 👀
Ooooh, Katsuki, dude, man... you only said a single sentence and I'm crying a little harder.
He looks so soft...
Tumblr media
"But I've always been the inferior." KATSUKI, PLEASE!!
Oh, the shots of them going from kids to teens... 😭😭😭
HE CALLED IZUKU!!! AAAAAAAAHHHH!!!
He ran to catch Izuku... I'm going to lay down after this.
Izuku just lets himself settle in Katsuki's arms... yeah, that's how I feel. DRAINED.
Okay, not the colors I had been thinking for Thirteen's real face and body.
Tumblr media
DAAAAAMN. I did not think the barrier would be that big!!! NEZU GOT BANK FOR REAL!!!
Tumblr media
"I wish I could return everyone's kindness." You've done enough, sweetheart.
Fuck every single one of those people who said Izuku can't come into the school THAT HE FUCKING ATTENDS!! YOU SONS OF BITCHES, HE'S BEEN PUSHING HIMSELF TO PROTECT YOU!!! FUCK YOU!
Known fact, my least favorite people on the whole series is the "civilians".
"Who is there to protect the hero?" Ochaco, you best girl for a reason! (All the girls are really.)
This episode just... I can't... it was beautiful!!

Question: I know you probably won't answer this because it's too soon(?) to speculate imo but when you said something along the lines "here comes the second's quirk" or something like that, I don't really remember the exact words .... specifically, what did you mean? Cause I'm very skeptical about the theories about the quirk itself and I genuinely cannot figure out what could it possibly be at this point.
Oh, your timing is good, anon. I was just wondering if I should go about pointing a few things out now.
I meant that with Izuku’s arrival, so too comes the Second’s quirk. We’re gonna see the damn thing at SOME point, and it very well could be soon.
You see, recently I went back and read from chapter 307 through now, and I took a few notes.
Tumblr media
Here are my...
Observations about the potential of the Second’s quirk:
Everyone probably knows what the Second’s quirk is except for the readers
Tumblr media
There’s really no reason for us to believe otherwise (unless of course KNOWING what the Second’s quirk is somehow affects how it works). Izuku most likely told All Might what it was in the hospital, and then he probably told the pro heroes when they started to work together, and Endeavor probably spilled the beans to 1-A when they confronted him in Nedzu’s office.
Why is this important? Because it means everything since chapter 307 has the potential to be a hint about what the Second’s quirk is. Therefore, all of these following observations may be unrelated to the quirk, but they may also be hints. Ergo, I have to lay them all on the table.
Names
As I’ve mentioned before, I am virtually 100% convinced that speaking names has something to do with how the quirk works. There’s all the evidence I’ve pointed out before about how spoken names seem to trigger Nagant’s destruction and how Aoyama is gagged after Izuku speaks his name, but there’s even more I haven’t mentioned. Ever since the prison break, AFO seems to go out of his way to NOT say “Izuku Midoriya” when speaking to other people.
Tumblr media
He only says it in a recording directed at Izuku himself.
Tumblr media
On Izuku’s side, we see him avoiding people as much as possible, but he purposefully seeks out those who could have made contact with AFO. He says their names openly as well, like with Lady Nagant and Chisaki. But when he says Endeavor’s name...
Tumblr media
...Hawks interrupts him.
If we’re to assume they all know how the Second’s quirk works and that’s why they agreed to Izuku’s “solo vigilante” plan, I have to assume that Hawks is interrupting Izuku on purpose, but Horikoshi is framing it in such a way as to not trip our mental alarms. That would also explain why so much of these potential hints about the Second’s quirk occur before the introduction of Star(s) & Stripe(s).
Tumblr media
The fact that AFO fears any cooperation between OFA and New Order could have to do with their activation conditions being similar.
The Gauntlets
For the same reasoning as above, I also have to assume touch could play an important part in Second’s quirk’s activation. AFO sends assassins after Izuku that can attack without touching him (Nagant and Dictator). Izuku tries to close in on Nagant for most of their fight, and he takes her hand when he saves her. He offers Aoyama his hand as well.
So let’s talk about those gauntlets.
Tumblr media
Many people assume these gauntlets must be related to his quirk, but I maintain that this is a dangerous conclusion to jump to.
Tumblr media
First of all, why does he have only one gauntlet in this memory but two gauntlets as a vestige? What changed? Did he lose the gauntlet in a fight in this memory, or did he have to get a second gauntlet at a later date?
Here are the questions I continue to ask about those gauntlets that make me suspect they’re not what we think:
Why assume the gauntlets are related to his quirk? Horikoshi has done red herrings like this before, like with the mystery behind the design of All Might’s vestige.
And assuming the gauntlets are related to his quirk, why assume it’s a quirk that blasts with force? The gauntlets could be for focused aim. What if his quirk draws things to him? What if the gauntlets control or prevent him from accidental consequences of his quirk?
Why can’t the gauntlets be a normal weapon unrelated to quirks? What if the Second’s quirk is not offensive or useful in direct combat and the gauntlets just supplement his combat ability?
Most importantly: why doesn’t Izuku use any gauntlets or other device like them if he plans to activate the Second’s quirk?
I’m just saying: the gauntlets could very well protect the Second from accidentally touching someone if that’s a concern.
Distance
There are several potential references to the fact that the Second’s quirk may have something to do with speed or crossing distances. Izuku seems to believe running around looking for villains working with AFO can help him ultimately find AFO somehow.
Tumblr media
We’ve also got the Second occasionally saying things like “things are bound to accelerate from here,” and of course there’s Izuku flying over the ocean wanting to get to UA faster and apparently believing the Second’s quirk could help him do so.
Additionally, there’s a chance the Second’s quirk could be activated in the Izuku vs Class 1-A at Kamino battle, and if so, there are two other moments that support this potential ability.
The first is this:
Tumblr media
Iida closes the gap with Izuku thanks to the help of class 1-A. If you’re like me, you suspect the final panel is a showing of the Second’s quirk activating in some regard. Additionally, may I also point out the title of the chapter. This isn’t “from class A to Izuku Midoriya,” it’s “from class A to One For All.” MIGHTY SUS...
The second moment is of course:
Tumblr media
Look, it could be nothing, but it could be something. Katsuki sure crossed that distance super quickly, dontcha think?
Talk no Jutsu
Izuku really seems to wanna talk with the villains, too.
Tumblr media
(And note how he says Muscular’s real name in the conversation above?)
As he gets in close with Nagant, he says this, too.
Tumblr media
I think he’s trying to connect with people. I think it has something to do with the Second’s quirk.
And my evidence is Ochako Uraraka.
Tumblr media
Strangely, over the course of Ochako’s speech to the UA refugees, her face gets redder and redder, and she seems to get more and more tired as she shouts.
We even see her flinch a few times, particularly when whatever she says doesn’t seem to land.
Tumblr media
And then she passes out after the whole ordeal.
Tumblr media
I don’t know, but it just reminds me of this.
Tumblr media
It reminds me of how Izuku flinches a lot in this fight too, particularly whenever someone tries to reach out to him with words.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And with this, I can only come back to the “chain” that OFA seems to be forging between people, and that somehow others seem to be able to influence Izuku and OFA in this way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Izuku’s eyes
When this moment happened, I also wondered if the Second’s quirk was in play.
Tumblr media
“Hagakure just did you a favor.”
So I reread the scene and, well.
Tumblr media
See that moment Danger Sense activates?
Why do Izuku’s eyes look so different from one panel to the next?
Tumblr media
Maybe it’s nothing but...
Tumblr media
Yo just look at those weird circles in his eyes.
Tumblr media
LOOK AT THEM.
The Soul
With all these potential “connections of the heart” in the “chain” above, I have to also consider the apparent importance of AFO’s lack of emotions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And there are all these other references to the soul...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the one that particularly stands out to me is...
Tumblr media
...because the background effect looks eerily similar to...
Tumblr media
...the one in the frame depicting the Second here.
Conclusion
Man I don’t fucking know but it’s probably convoluted as fuck.

I just caught up on the newest episode...So, that preview....that definitely looks like next episode is going to be when Katsuki finds Izuku and rescues him....
It's going to cover the mansion, izuku slipping deeper into his obsession with fighting the war alone, him leaving All Might, the time he spends completely alone, right up to him finding Dictator at Camino and the vestiges within him debating "what we can do to protect Midoriya"
Which, we all know is the precise Segway to katsuki making his dramatic appearance.
And because it's the way anime goes, it will end the exact same as that chapter ends, with
"He's here, guys"
Yall
I'm so excited to get to this part and I'm so ready for the deku retrieval arc. I am SO READY for katsukis apology and the light returning to Izuku's eyes and all the students chasing after Izuku. LETS GOOOOOO

hello, welcome to my pinned post! I'm archon-maenad, formerly known as wormpinions, and this is meant to be a guide and warning all at once for my blog. if you're following me with any level of active interest I highly recommend at least skimming this.
below the read-more contains general disclaimers I wish everyone who read my posts could know, a list of takes I have that might be deal-breakers, a summary of each au I created that I post about on here, and an extensive masterlist of my insane tagging system.
and here's my ao3 above the rm, because I'm shameless and desperate for interaction.
honestly, by general disclaimers I mostly mean one thing with a few aspects that I really really really want to make sure people know. specifically the concept of bashing vs criticism.
I do not like the idea of bashing characters. fics tagged with that are a red flag, I always use the "[character] Critical" because it's more accurate to the nuance I want to have. people are not one dimensional. they can have a fuckload of flaws I want to scream about from the rooftops and/or cackle about and still have the opportunity to become better people.
I can admit that I do like bashing settings, but I also use the "[topic] Critical" tag for that because once again: nuance is very important. some worlds are completely fucked but that doesn't mean they don't have redeeming qualities or became that way for a reason.
having to add on to every post that I have thoughts beyond the scathing analysis or (hopefully) amusing dunking would get old real fast, so let me put it here. I do not hate unconditionally. I am capable of exploring generous good-faith interpretations of characters I dislike or settings I criticize. I acknowledge the layers of why people act or places work.
that being said, welcome to the possible deal-breakers part of this post. here are a list of popular characters I will ruthlessly drag for making awful decisions.
itachi uchiha. why does nobody talk about how he literally deadass canonically no-I-am-not-exaggerating tortured his little brother. how can people call him a good sibling What The Actual Fuck????
kakashi hatake. he did team 7 so fucking dirty, mans was really willing to throw a bunch of children out into life as soldier-mercenaries unprepared. I understand why he did (70% of his personality is trauma) but that doesn't mean I condone it.
naruto uzumaki. yes I am very critical of the main boy himself. he's so blind to the privilege he has and expects other people to forgive things as easily as he does, minimizing the very real grievances they might have just because the person being criticized is one he cares about.
sasuke uchiha. do I need to elaborate.
minato namikaze. this one is more me just being really annoyed at how the fandom is so quick to paint him in a saintly light when he killed a thousand people and became a military dictator.
batman. I have a lot of problems with how he handles his rogues and the child heroes trailing at his heels.
all-might. he's a criminally negligent teacher and taught japan that triumph written in blood is peace. dude really singlehandedly fucked up a whole country's culture.
eraserhead. the fact he is a good hero willing to die for his students does not mean he isn't actively sabotaging their ability to trust authority figures, and dadzawa is entirely a fan creation. in canon he seriously gives so many rancid vibes.
izuku midoriya. his self-righteousness and lack of respect for boundaries just makes me nauseous. and instead of getting a mentor who helps him grow as a person, he got one who reinforced all his toxic traits.
daemon targaryen. he ordered the deaths of children and SEDUCED HIS FOURTEEN YEAR OLD NIECE. FOURTEEN. and then fucked her later right after her husband's funeral like that genuinely makes me want to throw up it's so disrespectful and disgusting.
rhaenyra targaryen. yes the double standards for women cheating are definitely real, but passing off her bastards as trueborn and then getting mad when people don't want a woman who believes she has a right to break vows on the throne is just. wowza. hubris should have been her middle name.
padme amidala. if you aren't going with an interpretation where anakin (probably out of unconscious negligence but that doesn't excuse it) manipulated her emotions, then you gotta face the fact that your precious girlboss married a mass murderer and is willing to put all the bills she pushes concerning the jedi at stake by doing that.
on the flipside, here are some characters I shamelessly love that are divisive figures in fandom.
sakura haruno. her harassment of sasuke is disgusting but she was a twelve year old girl who was taught such behavior was acceptable and also that doesn't mean she should be sent off to die with no training. why y'all hating on her she's a queen.
ron weasley. I probably won't make any actual posts about hp because contributing to the discussion of jk rowling's works makes me feel slimy, but appreciation of ron is a very important personality trait of mine y'all need to know.
the whole jedi order. they handled anakin's situation horribly but it was out of ignorance and not malice, and we are jedi culture positive in this household. jedi knights and masters not marrying has a lot of valid reasons actually and if that's a dealbreaker you should transfer to the corps or leave! it's not a lifestyle for everyone and it doesn't need to be.
sansa stark. I'm getting pretty tired of writing all these up so I'm not even going to elaborate. I love sansa and I'm not sorry about it.
and finally, yes I am the bitch who got dragged for liking kill orders. please go here for my explanation for those thoughts in detail that the (in hindsight really badly written because I was too enthusiastic to give enough context and oh my god it really does paint me in a bad light) original post didn't cover.
now the fun stuff. my aus!
riley midoriya au: a reformed but still pretty wild bonesaw is reborn as izuku's twin sister, quickly replacing bakugou's canon role model status. cue a protagonist who grew up around scathing commentary concerning japan's cape scene bc homegirl is Not Impressed by her new life.
bonesaw at camp half blood au: riley is reborn as annabeth chase. her unique worldview and curiosity shake things up quite a bit, because everyone around here is too damn quick to accept the status quo and not question the facts being told.
taylor uzumaki au: taylor hebert is reborn as naruto. she hates her new world, especially the normalized child soldiers and thoughtless way they take chakra for granted, and unknowingly makes ninja double take by being her usual unhinged self.
forbidden histories au: two codependent eldritch gods from cultist simulator get stuck in the body of sakura haruno and proceed to wreak havoc trying to get back to their home reality.
genesis generation au: my own personal post-canon fix-it. aka hokage sakura, ambassador naruto, under house arrest with chakra binding seals and rethinking all his life choices sasuke, and economies not based on child soldiers.
the rest of my tags will have to be sorted by category because there are just... so many. why am I like this.
first are the general fandom tags. they're what they say on the tin, and are for any mention or reference to anything in one of these pieces of media.
parahumans

also the individual characters from those pieces of media but I'm not gonna list em all I ain't insane

taylorpinions: taylor hebert opinions
rileypinions: riley grace davis opinions

mae just talks: what it says on the tin, me talking (usually not fandom related)
fic rec: also what it says on the tin, posts with links to recommended fics
worm liveblog: what it says on the tin, my live reactions to reading worm.
I have no idea if anyone will actually read this monster of a post, but it's important to me that it exists. so if you made it here to the end, thank you. I hope you enjoy my -pinions!

[Deku with chronic pain]
Izuku Midoriya | Boku No Hero Academia 04-07-2022
I swear TikTok makes me wanna write and have Headcanon again (guess this is what I get for starting to read manga again now that I have time). But here's my latest:
Deku develops chronic pain in his arms and hands from breaking them so much.
And because pains flare up randomly or when he uses his hand too much he ends up having difficulty writing for long periods of time. Which he hates because now he cannot really take notes the way he did before, even less keep up with his quirk analysis notebook.
This really bothers him because this is one of his passion and outlet, he hates not being able to write for long periods of time and sometimes even not being able to start.
I think his friend would take notice of it at some point and try to help him find an alternative so he can still keep these analyses without forcing himself and making his pain worst.
Uraraka and Iida help him start compiling everything digitally and finding the best doc formatting for his notes. They even all manage to organise Quirks by type easily like this, rendering searching easier Todoroki buys him a small voice recorder for when he whats to keep information on the go. Not as organised as writing down, but still better to keep information rather than try to remember everything when he gets back to his room.
I'm a sucker for Midoriya and Bakugo slowly being friends again, I imagine Bakugo being one of the first to notice and being the first to help in his own way. He simply sits down at Deku's desk and writes down in the notebook what Midoriya dictates to him. He'll usually keep quiet so as to not break Deku's rapid train of thoughts, pretty good at keeping up with all he tells him, sometimes stopping him just so he can catch up

The Future Doesn't Just Happen (We are Building It)
the future doesn't just happen (we are building it) by kayteedancer
Neito knew how lucky he was to make it into UA without a recommendation. He wasn't stupid - he had a Copy Quirk. If he didn't have people with strong physical Quirks in his test center, if he wasn't able to figure out how the Quirk worked quickly enough, if it had bad enough side effects to adversely affect his performance; there were a lot of factors that fell just so so that he made it into Heroics when so many other people like him had to fight and scrape their way to the Sports Festival on the slim chance that they would impress and be asked to join.
But just being in the Heroics Course wasn't enough. Just having the benefit of training and conditioning and teachers to mentor him to become a Pro Hero like them wasn't enough. Neito couldn't simply sit by idly and allow the work he was doing in classes to dictate the pace of his upward trajectory any longer. It was time to take his progress into his own hands, which meant he had to get a meeting with The Architect.

Clint Barton and Midoriya Izuku deservegood things, and here’s why.
Look, I may have an agenda in saying this but in Marvel x MHA crossovers I fully believe Clint Barton and/or Kate Bishop should get to interact with Midoriya at any opportunity, because there is so much narrative potential! (But especially Clint because he’s my favorite. Did I mention I might have an agenda?) Have them interact please, I am begging you! Even if it’s just for one scene and has no real influence on the plot, or if it’s just Midoriya finding out about Hawkeye's existence and getting excited! Midoriya deserves to have quirkless role models, okay!? (The same goes for Iron Man and other characters who rely on their skills and intellect, but I am the Ultimate Hawkeye Fangirl, alright?)
If you took these characters and stayed true to their canon personalities (or as true as you can with Marvel comic continuities), had these two characters meet, and wrote out a scene with them in it, both characters could benefit from each other and would have a good relationship if their canon characters ever got to interact. Conversely, if you tweaked their characters a bit or just one of those characters or went with a different canon version of one of those characters they would make excellent foils to each other. They have a lot in common, and there’s so much untapped potential between these two. So much untapped potential there are like five fics on Ao3 tagged as the two of them having an interaction significant enough to be worth tagging. FIVE.
Disclaimer, I believe you can and should write whatever you want for the most part, opinions be damned, but some of the phrasing I use in this post may seem like I’m trying to dictate how others should write MHA x Marvel crossovers. Please understand I am not trying to sound like an asshole, I am just very autistic about both these pieces of media and I express my opinions in very specific language.
I’m going to focus on Clint for the purposes of this rant because… look at my icon for Christ’s sake. Plus, I may or may not have an agenda. Well, okay, the actual reason is that I think Clint and Midoriya interactions have more potential than Kate and Midoriya, but it’s like comparing the value of platinum to gold. Both are extremely valuable, but one is more valuable than the other. Now, please, allow me to explain. (Significant word vomit incoming, 4700+ words, there are footnotes at the end plus a TL;DR.)
Look, Clint is literally just a guy who works his ass off. Sure, he’s a super-talented marksman but that talent would be meaningless if he didn’t constantly work for it! Midoriya and Hawkeye are both surrounded by people with extraordinary/supernatural abilities for significant parts of their stories even if Midoriya does get superpowers. Both of them get to where they are in their stories through sheer determination and hard work, even if it was for wildly different purposes. This applies even more so in fics where Midoriya stays quirkless! They are the powerless heroes in worlds filled with heroes who have powers! Characters like Black Widow, Iron Man, Ant-Man, and Falcon are way closer to having powers than Hawkeye. Widow was enhanced by the Red Room program, Iron Man and Ant-Man are defined by their gear, and Falcon... it changes from media to media. Sometimes he has a psychic connection to an actual falcon named Redwing, other times his gear is a lot more advanced, and sometimes both. Iron Man has infected himself with nanites to gain a form of technopathy in multiple stories! (1) Hell, Spider-Man was originally Marvel’s “Everyman” character but Clint sniped that title right out from under him. Few things highlight how defining Normalcy is for Clint better than the opening panels from Hawkeye 2012 Issue #1 (also I will take any and every excuse to promo Matt Faction and David Aja’s Hawkeye it’s just so good.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No matter what, Hawkeye has always been the normal guy on a roster of people with superpowers, super-intellect, fancy weaponry, and magic, and I love it! Ironically, that’s what makes him and Kate stand out, their normalcy.
Side note, have you ever fired a bow? I have. (Did I mention I have autism and am obsessed with Clint?) It’s fucking hard. Forget aiming and hitting your target, have you considered repeatedly pulling back and holding the bow steady for an entire battle? Ouch ouch owie owie ow, my fucking muscles. The human body was not designed to handle that kind of constant repetitive motion, Clint and Kate have arm muscles for days, not to mention the dedication it takes to have aim that good. Aiming with a bow is hard. Sometimes Clint is depicted as being such an excellent marksman he uses the bow and arrow specifically to flex how good his aim is. There are other reasons  (Versatility of trick arrows, non-lethality, having been an archer since he was very, very young) but this is objectively the funniest one. He’s also used coins and pebbles when he needs to make a shot that an arrow is unsuited for or when he doesn’t have his bow, i.e. in his civvies.
In fact, Hawkeye (2012) focuses almost exclusively on what Clint gets up to when he’s not superheroing. In the first issue, Clint gets out of the hospital and heads to his apartment. Clint can afford the rent jacks because of his Avengers and Shield pay, his neighbors cannot. We are explicitly shown the landlord mafioso Ivan evicting a single mother of two after tripling her rent. (2) We are shown Clint witnessing this. He knows that neighbor and she trusts him enough to have him double-check the lease to make sure that what the landlord is doing is legal. (It is.) Clint cares about his neighbors, enough that he regularly attends the semi-potluck grill night they have on the roof of the building. In fact, he doesn’t regularly eat except when he’s with the Avengers or on potluck night. So what does he do?
He puts on a cheap suit and tie, heads over to an underground casino, and he gives a slice of pizza to a dog on the street. This dog belongs to the guards of the underground casino. He convinces them to let him in and he hunts down the landlord. He drops a duffle bag and gives the mafia a shit-ton of money in a duffle bag to pay rent for all of his neighbors tax-free. The mafia refuse the deal because they are jacking up the rent so they can evict people for not paying rent on time. This is because they want to sell the building. Clint then beats up the mafia until they accept the money. (3)  Well, okay, not exactly. The mafia attack him first, but Clint uses a playing card as a projectile to disorient one of the guards with a gun, and room devolves into chaos.
Clint gets thrown out the front window of the laundromat and runs for his life. As the outer guards fire on Clint, the dog he gave pizza attacks them for it. They then throw the dog into traffic and he turns around to beat the shit out of them because, and I quote “What kinda man throws a dog into traffic? *punches sunglasses off of tracksuit Mafioso* Seriously I ask you.” Clint takes a Nickle out of his pocket and throws it with enough force to shatter the door windows of the car that’s about to hit the dog in a desperate attempt to get the driver to swerve. The dog still gets hit.
Oh yeah, allow me to introduce you to Hawkeye 2012 Issue #1 page 4.
Tumblr media
Unrelated note, Faction and Aja do a masterful job of storytelling in issue 1. The story is told out of order, but the proper context is given at the perfect moments so you can easily piece the story together, most of the flashbacks and flash-forwards are one-page long, when they aren’t things from one time period seamlessly blend with another, and the entire color pallet changes to signify what point in the timeline the panels are occurring... and that’s only issue 1! I am refraining from doing a keyboard smash here, as that is the only thing that can properly convey how much I love Hawkeye 2012.
Anyways, he takes the dog to the vet, and the tracksuit mafia show back up while he’s in the waiting room. He once again rocks their shit, and they take it outside. (4) We cut to Ivan sitting in a cab while Clint is outside. It’s raining. Ivan has a handkerchief to his bloody nose and- actually, I don’t think a cliff-notes does this justice. I’ll transcribe the dialogue below here because my attempts to do a scan of the page came out poorly and I’m unsure if there’s a high-quality scan online, just know you’re missing some of the pacing of the scene.
Ivan: “Bro, what kind of Avenger does this? I broke no laws, bro. Allowed to raise rents. Is touch luck for you and your friends but I know my rights.”
Clint: “Hold that thought, ya Tracksuit Dracula. You asked about the Avengers. Y’wanna know the best part about being an Avenger? having Captain America around you all the time He just-- the guy brings out the best in people. You... want to be good when he’s around. You really do.”
“Ivan, Look around you real quick. Because, right now? Captain America ain’t here. I’m going to pay you everything everyone in that building owes you and another 12.5 for the building outright. And that’s it. Negotiations’re over. You wanted to sell it? I want to buy it. I take care of my people and you get rich. The end.”
Ivan: “I had buyer.”
Clint: “I don’t care.”
He turns to the cab driver, hands him a wad of cash, and tells him to take Ivan to JFK. Fast. The vet tech calls Clint back inside. The dog has a broken pelvis, broken leg, two broken ribs, and lost an eye, but will recover fairly well with proper care and rest. Clint pets the dog while he’s laying on the table after surgery. Clint keeps the dog after this. The name on the collar says “Arrow,” but Clint decides to come up with something better.
Tumblr media
This whole story is really just Clint trying to do the right thing as best he can. At first, he’s just going for the first solution to the problem that he thinks of, but he adapts once Ivan turns him down. He saves Lucky because A. he likes dogs. and B. the dog saved him. Hell, the whole reason Lucky tried to save him was that he gave Lucky a piece of pizza because, again, he likes dogs and Lucky just happened to be standing there, looking cute. He cares about his neighbors. In later issues of Hawkeye 2012 Clint repeatedly is shown helping out his neighbors or just providing entertainment at the potluck.
Clint also had a really, really rough childhood. His dad was an alcoholic, his parents died in a car crash because of that, before they died his dad beat both him and his older brother Barney, he and his brother ran away to join the circus, Clint was beaten and left for dead by one of his parental figures after he caught him stealing money from the ticket box, his relationship with his brother really fell apart after that- and that's the cliff-notes version! It varies somewhat based on continuity but the most consistent part is runaway orphan joining the circus. Personally, when writing Marvel stuff, I adapt it to “Foster care was shitty and my brother and I wanted to stay together, so we ran away, and the circus happened to take us in,” to modernize it a bit.
So in short, Clint is kind, determined, and has had a lot of hardship in his life, particularly his childhood. Hmm, kind, determined, a lot of hardship during childhood? Now, who does this remind me of? Oh yeah, fucking Midoriya!
A huge part of what I think makes MHA so interesting is that its main character is fairly untraditional as far as Shonen protagonists go. Hell, he’s kinda untraditional as far as superhero protagonists go in general. Midoriya is defined by his kindness, he is emotional, he wants to save people above almost everything else. The most iconic battles Midoriya has been involved in thus far are motivated heavily by his drive to save. Think Muscular, Overhaul, and Gentle. (Kouta, Eri, and Eri’s chance to smile again.) (I’ve only seen up to Season Four, although I’ve seen manga spoilers. Don’t ask.) Funnily enough, this all reminds me somewhat of Hawkeye’s traditional origin story. I shall now give you the cliff-notes version that spans multiple years of comics. (At least I think it does, I’d have to double-check and I only have so much time, y’know.)
Clint is inspired by Iron Man to use his skills to fight crime instead of just being a circus entertainer. Unfortunately for Clint, on his first outing after he stops a thief and picks up the money they stole to return it, he gets mistaken for the original thief. Then Iron Man shows up and beats him up. Clint is forced to go on the run, falls in with Black Widow, becomes a recurring Iron Man villain with Widow, falls in love with Widow, gets kind of depressed when Widow disappears (actually recalled to Moscow and reprogrammed), saves Jarvis (the Avenger’s butler, originally just Stark’s Alfred) from a muggers, gets Jarvis’s help to demonstrate to the Avengers that he’s trying to change, and has been an Avengers mainstay ever since. Clint later played a significant part in breaking through Black Widow’s programming and helping her defect to Shield, saving her.
It’s a very unconventional origin story. Redemption arcs have been done, but not many involve wanting to do the right thing from the beginning of a character’s story. My personal favorite adaptation of this backstory is from the cartoon Avengers Assemble, where Clint was a member of the Circus of Crime, but never felt good about it. He triggered the alarm on their biggest heist ever, getting them arrested by Shield, but Fury saw something in him and gave him a chance to make amends, becoming Hawkeye. I understand I am very biased on this though, so I will not argue for it being the best. That aside, it’s unconventional mainly because of how integral to the Avengers Hawkeye later became to the point where the Avengers have very few adaptions without him. So many story arcs involving Clint are based in his desire to do the right thing. All of Hawkeye 2012. His backstory. Widow’s defection. His near divorce over his wife killing someone. (It was justified and accidental.)
There’s another parallel between Midoriya and Clint one could draw, although it depends somewhat on your interpretation of quirklessness in the MHA world. If you think about it, both Clint and Midoriya are disabled. Clint is Deaf. Depending on the continuity, he had progressive hearing loss as a child, had surgery to fix his hearing when he was older (11?), then his ears are injured in a fight, making him lose about 80% of his hearing. Most depictions of Clint’s deafness that I’ve seen stem from Fraction’s Hawkeye Issue #19 but Clint being deaf and wearing hearing aids dates back to 1983 and there’s some comic history after that as to why it didn’t become a frequent part of Hawkeye’s depictions until Fraction but we’re not getting into that right now. (5)
Ignoring Red Shoe theory, (I don’t subscribe to it but it’s still an interesting premise) the interpretation of being quirkless as a disability is a completely valid reading of the text! The pity Midoriya gets after his diagnosis, people treating him as lesser and weaker, his mother apologizing to him, these are all things people in the disabled community have dealt with! I’m not even pulling from fanon, that’s all canon stuff there. Clint has frequently used ASL and lipreading in comics since 2015! He’s worn hearing aids in various depictions on and off since 1983, when he first became a deaf character! He is disabled and a total badass! If you’re doing a story where Midoriya becomes a quirkless hero, well there’s a hero in the public eye whose main thing is trick arrows, i.e. support gear! In addition, the disability interpretation of Quirklessness would be an excellent parallel to utilize in a story that mentions or features disability advocacy.. And this is ignoring the possibility of them both being quirkless in a blended reality crossover. They could bond over having to grow up with quirklessness in a world that discriminates against the quirkless! Midoriya could have grown up idolizing the world-famous archer!
On the other hand, if your Midoriya has OfA, Clint becomes a foil to Midoriya and a great one at that. Clint is a badass member of the Avengers who doesn’t have powers but rather kicks ass with trick arrows and a weapon from the Paleolithic era, plus some martial arts training. He’s what Midoriya could have been. Hell, Hawkeye showing up in the MHA dimension asking for help and hanging out with the next generation to give them some pointers while he’s there could lead to Midoriya doing some serious soul-searching. This isn’t a very far-fetched idea, he mentored Kate Bishop and has led several branches of the Avengers over the years, primarily the West Coast Avengers.
Another way Clint serves as a foil to Midoriya is his impulsiveness and brashness. Clint is generally trying to do the right thing, but he doesn’t always think it through. Again, the mafia thing. His origin story. The serious clashes he had with Cap when he first joined the Avengers. The times he’s been seriously tempted to kill his abusive father figure Swordsmaster. His tendency to flirt with every woman he meets. (6) The shotgun wedding with Mockingbird in the eighties comics (the issue he marries her in is also the issue he is deafened in.) I could go on. To contrast he’s also insanely loyal, once you've earned his respect. (Cap, but Widow as well. And Mockingbird. Kate Bishop.)
On the subject of Ronin, that gives you a pretty good excuse to put Clint n Japan, he could be taking care of unfinished business for the previous holder of the Ronin moniker. (7) This works best in a blended universe of course, but could be tied into a dimension travel fic as well.
But back to the foil thing, Clint does tend to act on his anger as well. This is an excellent contrast to Midoriya. When Midoriya is emotional and expressive, it’s generally his sadness and stress, or his excitement. When Clint is expressive, it’s anger or self-loathing. Parallels, people! Parallels!
Another parallel/way they foil each other is how unhinged they can be. Look, Midoriya grabbed onto All Might’s leg, he rushed the Slime Villain to save Bakugo, he counteracted Eri’s rewind by breaking his bones faster than she could erase him. But Clint is his own brand of crazy. I mean, you have to be pretty nuts to fight superhumans with a bow and arrow, but sometimes Clint takes it to another level. One of the craziest things he’s done, though, is use a combination of a Life Model Decoy, a small-scale time machine, and careful planning to masquerade as his alternate persona Ronin while leaving most of his coworkers and friends under the impression that he was not, in fact doing that. He has on several occasions and in across several media fired a shrunk-down Ant-Man on an arrow (Pym and Lang, although this originated with Lang), in one incarnation had a distraction arrow that when triggered unfurled a “Bang!” flag, frequently utilizes boomerang arrows, and well, you read my summary of Hawkeye Issue 1.
Listen, if you don’t want to write Hawkeye into your story that’s completely valid but the opportunity is right there! It just- it’s just a pet peeve when someone does a hybrid universe and just writes Clint as having a “Perfect Aim” quirk. It’s not a deal-breaker for reading a fic if the rest of the story is interesting enough but it always hurts my heart because that’s just such a disservice to his character. I would take him having literally any other quirk over that. Because his whole deal is that he’s just a guy who’s really, really, good with a bow. That’s what makes him such a badass to me. He’s got a good head for tactics, some martial arts training, and perfect aim that he has cultivated his entire life. If you give him perfect aim as an actual power you have proven to me that you fundamentally do not understand the character you are working with. (Related note, I have mixed feelings about the version of him that appears in the Ultimate universe. Not a point I wish to delve into at this time, but worth mentioning nevertheless.) And you don’t have to understand him write a good story, I just… it’s just a waste of potential. And comics are so vast and the MCU version is so bland I don’t blame anyone for not knowing his character that well! It’s understandable! I’ve long since expected it since I became a Hawkeye fan!
I have read fics where the author is doing perfectly, I am completely engaged by and loving whatever universe they have set up, they have written these characters in such a way that it feels like a totally believable version of how their stories could have gone, and then BAM! Marksmanship quirk for Clint and I just... have to take a break and come back later. I understand this is not a normal reaction, but I am incapable of being normal about him, so here we fucking are. It’s just such a waste of potential.
Listen, you have every right to do what you want with your fic, but I promise you your story will be more interesting if you just let Clint’s character exist in the way he was meant to, as a guy who’s super dedicated to his training and very skilled. I would be happy if there was just a moment, particularly in fics where dimension travel is involved, if whoever Midoriya’s mentor-figure-of-the-day is was thinking about how to deal with Midoriya’s frankly abysmal self-esteem, and essentially went “Hm, my favorite sunshine green bean really needs some encouragement and positive quirkless role model. What if I told him about the quirkless badasses from my reality who, to my knowledge, haven’t been enhanced by magic/genetic modification/cybernetics and still go toe-to-toe with people who have those things! Frequently! I bet he’d think they’re really cool and would maybe be able to hold his head a little higher knowing there are people like him out there who are heroes. He’d really start to believe that he can be a hero too and that he’s just as capable as his peers!”
Or, or, or! in blended reality fics, if Clint had a quirk that was just something kinda dumb like, I dunno, Binocular Eyes, and Clint just uses the bow instead, (Or he’s openly quirkless, IDGAF, just not Perfect Aim please for the love of god) and mentor-figure-of-the-day has a similar train of thought but instead of just telling Midoriya about them they cash in a favor or two that Clint owes them to have Clint meet with Midoriya. And Clint, being the somewhat kind-hearted person that he is, would absolutely be a good sport about it! He would encourage Midoriya! He’s been a mentor and leader before and encouraged other members of the Avengers to guide the Young Avengers rather than try to shut them down!
Alternatively, and this is only something you could pull off in a fic where Clint is a central focus and not part of the backdrop, Clint is faking having a “Perfect Aim” quirk. Or several of his colleagues are aware of it in order to help him conceal it, and mentor-figure-of-the-day spills it in while swearing Midoriya to absolute secrecy. Clint himself telling Midoriya would be really cute though, and perfect for a Mentor fic! Or Clint stumbling onto Bakugo (8) and co harrassing Midoriya and telling them off/threatening them! He would do that, he’s impulsive enough! Clint makes bad jokes, Midoriya is kind and sunshine incarnate, they would get along!
There’s so much, I could go on and on and just- Oh goddammit, I was saving Clint and Midoriya interactions for my long fic that eventually devolves into has dimension travel as a part of the plot but I guess I’m adding a fic where Clint properly mentors Midoriya to my fucking to-do list. I only have myself to blame. Happy Valentine’s Day to me.
This is a cross-media thing too! It happened in Iron Man: Armored Adventures. Y’know, the one where he, Rhodey, and Pepper are all teens at the same high school and Tony is basically this world’s Spider-Man! Actually this is on brand for Armored Adventures, having watched that show. Very chaotic storylines, condenses like decades of comic books storylines into two seasons while staying unquestionably rated TV-Y7. It was actually pretty good, was the first animated series to feature Pepper Potts as Rescue, and also contains one of the best modern adaptions of Hawkeye’s original introduction. I’m not kidding. Oh, and the Avengers are formed at the end of the series, in a sense. I think they just wanted to leave themselves with some potential future storylines in case they got renewed past a second season while still having a satisfying ending. They did not get renewed.
Her name is Simone, in issue #12 of Fraction’s Hawkeye Clint watches cartoons with her kids while she uses Lucky as a pillow. He falls asleep watching the cartoons with them and Simone pulls a blanket over him as she takes her kids back to their apartment. Oh yeah and the whole thing takes place during Kwanzaa because the issue is a winter holiday special that uses the cartoon to tell a story that’s an allegory for Clint’s role in the superhero community. Very wholesome moment, I love Simone.
This marks the point part-way through writing the first draft of that paragraph, I went upstairs to grab my Hawkeye volumes to reread issue 1 and brought all four of them back to my desk to keep them on hand for easy reference. I also wished to make the point I was writing at that time more articulate. I also brought down my Hawkeye vs Deadpool volume and Marvel-verse Hawkeye volume. I had no intention of referencing either of them I just like having all my Hawkeye comics in one place.
This is quite possibly one of the hottest Clint Barton moments ever. I’ll probably upload a scan of it sometime in the future but it ends with him pinning Ivan to the wall by the throat. The next page where he threatens Ivan into selling him the building is also pretty hot, but you’ve already seen the dialogue for that. Ah great, now I’m tempted to a make post ranking the hottest Clint Barton moments across all his different incarnations, for fucks sake.
I can talk comic history of Hawkeye and how Hawkeye has evolved as a character all fucking day. I vibrate with joy when I get to info-dump about this shit and vibrate with stress when I have to dial it back. When I am both talking about it and dialing back, I cease to vibrate as all of my focus goes into scientifically measuring out the maximum amount of info dumping I can get away with. Please ask me questions about Hawkeye, I beg you. I know so much about his many incarnations across different media and I am waiting for any excuse to talk about them or do more research.
His character evolves out of this but classic comics Hawkeye is all about the ladies, and he frequently has minor storylines involving his romantic endeavors. I can’t say I blame him, I’ve seen the women he rolls with. Unfortunately for him they never seem to go well.
The previous holder of the name was Kingpin’s daughter. It’s a long story.
I wanted to talk about using Clint as a foil to Bakugo and/or Todoroki with his impulsiveness/anger issues but having better control over it and being quirkless but I just did not have the energy or the time. Could also be a foil to Eraser or All Might as a mentor figure but I would have to think on that some more and my cats are getting between me and the keyboard. :/
TL;DR: Clint and Midoriya are both characters defined by their determination, their kindness, their lack of power in a world full of powers, and I just think that’s neat.

Karmatic!AU
Tumblr media
Hello there, it's me :)
I'm back with another ramble AU!!! This one has been in my back burning for quite sometime now, I haven't talked about it? At least, I don't think so but here's the ramble about my Karmatic AU!
What does karmatic even mean?
There are two different meanings for it:
In Hinduism & Buddhism it means an action seen as bringing upon oneself inevitable results, either in this life or in a reincarnation.
In Theosophy it means the cosmic principle of rewards and punishments for the acts performed in a previous incarnation.
(I copied and pasted the definitions from Google! So, it's not in my words!)
I was genuinely surprised that karmatic was even a word because when I was typing it I was just thinking about a quirk's name. Not an entire AU! When the word didn't have a red squiggly line underneath I was shook that it was a word.
Now onto the Plot Points -
First off, this is a vigilante Izuku AU! However, there's a twist here, Izuku comes from a legacy of vigilantes. Izuku is currently the ninth stand in of the vigilante that only came to be known when Inko, Izuku's mother, came to light.
That means, for a long time, the police force believe Izuku is older than what he actually is.
Izuku does have a quirk and it's called Karmatic (yes like the AU. Keep in mind the quirk came first before the AU.)
Karmatic like the name suggests it's a karma based quirk. Your actions dictate the colour of your string and depending on what colour your string is, you will feel a difference between pain or happiness.
^ That's the summary of it. I can explain it in depth later in the post.
There will be a BioDad!AFO, however, in this AU Izuku hates his father. He hates AfO for doing one of the biggest crimes against the Midoriya Family.
That is; killing one of their kins. Inko was in the battlefield where All for One and One for All met once again. Inko was in her own words, assisting All Might to taking down AFO (her fiance at the time.)
Inko regretted almost marrying a man, the man, her entire family was trying to defeat for generations now. She regrets but oh did she love him all the same.
She dies in the battlefield. She asks All Might to protect her baby, to save her baby, All Might was confused on that but he nods. Sealing the promise and she, Inko, passes away with a heavy heart.
It will take All Might years to figure out who the baby was, where the child went, but trust me when they do meet there will be Dad Might or Uncle Might either one because Yagi will try his best to keep the promise he made to Inko. His dead crush.
To summarize it, Inko and AfO dated and were close to be web until Inko found out who he actually was. She was also friends with Yagi at the same time and when the battle of All Might vs All For One came to be Inko assisted Yagi into defeating her fiance, their enemy, and died alongside the crossfire leaving Izuku to be into raised by the Clan.
The Midoriya Family follow a clan structure which can be complicated at times because sometimes the family enforces traditions and sometimes they don't. They are very pushy on who would be the new vigilante since Inko died and they have hesitation on giving Izuku for a number of reasons.
One of them being that Izuku is still quite young, he's still a flipping baby! Two they aren't sure if Izuku will even want to be a hero or a vigilante. While they are pushy on who will be the next head vigilante they don't want to force it upon the children unless they do want to be.
The Midoriya Family has 💸💸💸
Maybe? Dadzawa or some sort of family figure Aizawa because in this AU, Izuku is quite literally an adult trapped inside a child's body. This boy will need a support system!!!
There will be a heavy influence of Egyptian mythology into this because the vigilante outfit quite literally is inspired by Egyptian mythology.
Izuku's personality is as follows:
Izuku is confident and mature who focuses a lot of his time to find where his father is. Izuku is bold, eccentric, and shameless. He's morally grey but close to the line of amoral, and has a bit of sadistic tendencies because of his quirk.
His theme song is definitely Killing Butterflies or along those lines.
There will be a battle between Izuku and AfO and when that happens Izuku so kindly reminds his father that the one in control is quite literally Izuku. Which is where AfO is reminded of Inko. They'll fight during the Kamino Ward so that'll be fun. :)
Now onto the main reason why this AU was created - (keep in mind I'm still trying to fix some stuff about this quirk and keep it along the lines of karma and strings with a hint of colour psychology. I would appreciate some tips but keep it kind or straightforward because I will cry if it's rude. :'D
Karmatic is an emitter quirk based on the belief of karma. The quirk lets the user see strings that others cannot see for themselves. Each string is unique and different in colour and shade. The darker it is the more 'bad karma' you've accumulated and it's the opposite when it comes to the lighter shades, 'good karma.'
The strings themselves let ths user do a number of things, for example, the user can puppeteer people, minor healing like scratches or bruises, give people a sense of hope and renewal or the opposite which is fear and dread, and finally minor memory sharing.
The memory sharing part does not go both ways however. What I mean is that Izuku can access the memories of the person and feel what was happening like he was the one in the memory but the person cannot see Izuku's memories or feelings.
Now, onto the drawbacks.
Karmatic is quite a taxing quirk, it requires a strong sense of mental, emotional, and physical health because it literally drains the user of their sanity. Karmatic's aspects that I listed off literally takes something from the user to balance out their karma.
Keep in mind, Izuku will never know what his karma is like or the colour of his string.
The minor healing uses the user's happiness, the memory sharing has physically backlashes because the user is quite literally in the memory as the person, and the puppeteering drains the user stamina. He can't control more than three people and even just two or one make Izuku so tired.
Izuku also has a weak bond with his emotions because the strings use up his emotional health to establish a connection to the person if he were to puppeteer them.
Karmatic is a nice quirk, cool even, however, the drawbacks are literally the worst. Mental health will be a supporting theme to this because the main theme here is "Learning to heal slowly but surely."
I forgot to mention because I know I tagged Kimetsu no Yaiba references. Izuku's fighting style follows Mitsuri, Shinobu, and Uzui's.
I can't and won't let go of my head cannon that Izuku is flexible as fuck. He incorporates his flexibility with a sword similar to Mitsuri but here's the Shinobu's part, the tip of the sword is the only part that doesn't changes, and Izuku uses explosives but rarely.
Thanks to Hatsume Industries, Izuku's main weapon is a sword that can change into three different modes, the first is pen mode, no one would suspect a thing, the second mode is the whip-like sword where the tip is like a stinger, and finally the katana/sword mode where the whip-like sword stiffens and turns into a katana.
There's another button where it releases explosives but Izuku hardly uses them but when he does, you know crap is up!
Maybe OP? But that's how I image Karmatic Izuku fights.
I have no concrete name for the vigilante that the Midoriya Family carries as a legacy but I know I want to incorporate 'Veil' into the name.
Also, the one who started the Veil legacy was alive during Yoichi's time which is why Izuku is the ninth because for every One for All user there was a veil vigilante as well.
The mask they use hardly changes but there are alterations made for when someone does take up the mantle. It's very faint but it's noticeable once someone looks for it. (Which is how Aizawa found out Izuku was younger than what they suspected.)
I think I explained what I wanted to say, I know didn't say anything about USJ or how Izuku views others but that'll be for another time. Sorry for any grammar mistakes it's too earlier but too late for me to fall asleep and I couldn't help but do this since I couldn't fall asleep.
I hope you enjoyed the ramble I made! And peace out! See you next time! >;D
