The real-life Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng - A tale of two brothers
I’ve been asked this before when talking about topics such as Qiongqi beast and its symbolism in Wei Wuxian’s death, the various hints that Wei Wuxian might be long lost royal, the historical background behind the Yin tiger tally, and why the tiger symbol seemingly being bad juju for Wuxian.
It’s all connected, of course, through a historical basis. I have some free time today, so let’s get!
Meet Wei Wuji, also known as Lord Xinling, the second Prince of Wei Kingdom (circa 2nd century BCE), the first person in recorded history to handle a Tiger Tally, and very very likely to be the real-life basis for Wei Wuxian.
Tumblr media
How very likely? Well, there’s no word of god, of course. But I’ll just let the facts speak for themselves, and you be the judge.
1. Let’s start with names:
Wei Wuji 魏無忌
Wei Wuxian 魏无羡
Wei 魏 = Wei 魏. An exact match. As a matter of fact, Wei Wuji’s Wei kingdom is the first kingdom to bear this Wei name in recorded history.
Wu 無 is the traditional form of Wu 无. In the Japanese, Taiwanese, and traditional Mandarin versions, Wei Wuxian is also written with this Wu 無.
The original meaning of Ji is ‘envy, hatred’ in ancient times (as per the Kangxi dictionary and the original text of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms). In modern times, the meaning of Ji has morphed to represent ‘fear, avoid’ more than ‘envy’ and ‘hatred.
The meaning of Xian is envy in both ancient and modern times.
So Wei Wuxian is effectively an alternate way to write Wei Wuji.
2. The life and death of Wei Wuji and the first Tiger Tally recorded in history:
a. Genius second son, a friend of many, the brightest 4th Young Master:
Wei Wuji was born the second son of King Wei Zhao and the second prince of the Wei Kingdom. He had an elder half-brother: Wei Anli, crown prince and, afterward, King of the Wei Kingdom.
Despite being the younger brother and not the heir to the throne, Wei Wuji eclipsed his elder brother in talent, courage, military and political acumen, and sheer popularity.
Wei Wuji was also unique among his period peers for being very open-minded when it came to castes. He lived during the warring state period, during which there existed an extremely strict caste system where the lower and slave castes didn’t even count as humans and could be executed for silly things like being in the presence of their higher caste masters and ‘tainting the air’ they breathed. Not only did Wei Wuji give no thought to this caste system, he would often go out of his way to listen to the lower castes and treat them with respect as if they were of the same caste.
In one legend (Sima Qian Historical Records, circa 135 BCE), Wei Wuji walked away from a banquet raised in his name to go sit and talk to an old, wise prison guard (Hou Ying). He would then invite this prison guard to his banquet with the highest of honor, even giving the guard his seat (noble seat) and driving the chariot in his place. When other noble banquet guests protested this lowly guard’s presence by vilifying the old prison guard for not knowing his place, Wei Wuji stood up for him and gave him the highest of toasts, thus silencing the guests.
In another legend, Wei Wuji hosted over 3000 guests in his princely fiefdom. He famously declared that so long as a person had ambitions and a will to do good in his heart, then Wei Wuji would receive him in his hall as a guest and friend regardless of what caste he was or from where he came.
For this, Wei Wuji was known as Lord Xinling and held the loyalty of many in his own brother’s kingdom.
He was one of the Four Gongzi of the Warring State Period (lit. Four Young Masters, Four Noblemen, Four Princes. During this period, Gong was a distinct noble class comparable to Duke. So this can also be understood as the Four Dukes). He was seen as the brightest among the Four.
b. The tale of the first Tiger Tally in recorded history:
Sima Qian Historical Records told the tale of the first Tiger Tally as such. It was a time of chaos where the strong trampled the weak, and big countries gobbled up small ones. Wei Kingdom was one of the seven strongest of the time. This meant that their position was precarious.
Around this time, Wei Wuji’s elder brother, Wei Anli, had ascended the throne and adopted a policy of avoidance. Despite the ferocious fighting, the political struggles, and the easily foreseeable threats, Wei Anli was of the thought that if he did nothing and just closed his door, then trouble wouldn’t come knocking at his door.
But this was not so. In 260 BC, the state of Qin (of Qin Shi Huang, yes) besieged the state of Zhao and captured the King of Zhao (who was related to the Wei through marriage). Zhao sent for Wei’s help. But King Wei Anli didn’t want to be Qin’s next target, and so refused to send aid.
This was where the Wei brother’s opinions diverged. Wei Wuji saw that Qin was growing unchecked in power, and if not stopped, then Wei would be next on the chopping block anyway. So not only was Wei politically and morally responsible, but from a long-term strategic standpoint, Wei must respond if they didn’t want Qin to grow too strong and eventually be invaded and absorbed into Qin itself.
The only problem: Wei Wuji had no right to make this decision. And regardless of his insistence and explanation to his elder brother, Wei Anli would not be moved. Meanwhile, the state of Zhao sent ever more desperate pleas for help (from the Wei’s sister who was Zhao Queen at the time no less).
Pressured from all sides and with no alternative, Wei Wuji made a decision that would go down as a first in history. He would steal the Tiger Tally from his King’s hand, commandeer the army, and ride to answer Zhao’s pleas for help himself.
This would eventually become the historical example of military brilliance that required the usurpation of the immediate superior. Wei Wuji’s own name would go down in history as brilliance that eclipsed his station.
I’ve written on the tiger tally before. So I won’t write more about this now.
To summarize things, Wei Wuji’s plan worked. Zhao was saved. But at the cost of a rift between brothers. After lifting the siege, Wei Wuji stayed in Zhao for ten years.
He would only go back to Wei Kingdom when Wei was besieged by Qin in purported retaliation, bringing with him the 3000 guests that stayed loyal to him and went to Zhao for help. Wei Wuji successfully lifted the siege of Wei and the two brothers reunited after a decade of not seeing each other. They cried and embraced one another. Wei Anli made Wei Wuji the Grand General of Wei, and he then took over the safeguarding of Wei against the onslaught of Qin.
c. The tale of two brothers. Or, as the Chinese say, the King has no brothers. The King has no equal. Fool is he who dares think himself the King’s brother and equal.
Despite the fact that the brothers reunited, this tale does not end well.
Wei Wuji was a brilliant general and a ferocious warrior. But more than that, his reputation far eclipsed his elder brother the King. Ever since they were young, Wei Anli had had to suffer being under the shadow of his little brother, despite his being the heir and then King.
Wei Wuji not only successfully repelled Qin, but he also started making a plan to counterattack and nyx Qin Empire before it could take shape. Because his reputation was such that countless warriors and scholars answered his call to arms. Five other kingdoms also answered his request for an alliance.
The King of Qin was deathly afraid of Wei Wuji. Violence did not work, so the Qin King attempted the other way: through schemes and manipulation. The Qin King sent enormous fortunes and gifts to Wei Anli under the guise of normalizing relations between the two kingdoms and potential peace. Along with his gifts, he would send people, spies of all ranks and castes, to infiltrate Wei Anli’s court and territory. These spies would continuously do things to increase the friction and gap between the two brothers.
Some of them would falsely congratulate Wei Wuji for having ascended to the throne.
Some more would treat Wei Wuji with more deference than Wei Anli.
Some would then whisper into Wei Anli’s ears: “Prince Wei was away from his own Kingdom for 10 years. And yet when he calls, thousands in Wei Kingdom answer him. Why is it him and not you, the King? Do your people only know Wei Wuji and not Wei Anli. Are you sure it’s still you who is the King? He should know his place!”
Wei Anli… fell for their tactics. So he demoted Wei Wuji and effectively isolated him from the court. He would then give this position to someone else. So, of course, the plan to counterattack Qin with the 5 ally kingdoms fell apart miserably.
Wei Wuji was heartbroken by his own brother’s action. He descended into alcoholism and purportedly died from depression and failing health. In other words, he died from the betrayal of someone who saw as a brother but that same brother saw him not as a brother but as a rival and a carrier of problems.
Wei Anli died in the same year as Wei Wuji, purportedly from illness.
18 years later, just as Wei Wuji predicted, Wei Kingdom was conquered and subsumed by Qin. Qin would then go on to become the first true Empire in Chinese History.
Wei Anli was not technically the last monarch of Wei. But it’s historically agreed that he’s the one who laid the foundation for the fall of Wei due to his suspicion of his own brother and removing the one person capable of turning the tide of Qin.
So, I will leave this here for you to come to your own conclusion and come back another day for analysis on the parallels between history and story and a few other somewhat ironic anecdotes that I didn’t include here (Like the fact that between the 2 Wei brothers, it’s the real-life Jiang Cheng, Wei Anli, that was the gay one. How gay are we talking about? So gay he’s the origin of Chinese gay porn)

Jin Guangyao and Wei Wuxian aren't the same.
Jin Guangyao is one of the best written characters I've come across. A villian that doesnt look like one, doesnt act like one, is likeable, has strong motivations and a defined personality and extremely fun to read fanfics about. But what I dislike is the role that fanon gives him; specially his role in the story with allusions to Wei Wuxian, casting Jin Guangyao as someone similar to Wei Ying. The "poor children turned to forced villains" trope. This meta is about WHY that's NOT true.
The humiliation of his mother didn't give him the right to burn down an entire brothel. (personally, I found it satisfying but). The desire of acceptance from his father was a motivation for his crimes, not a factor that validates those crimes. Often, Jin Guangyao is treated as the counter part of Wei Wuxian. They both share only three similarities, however:
1. Both came from low backgrounds and struggled a lot in their childhoods. Meng Yao had food, but witnessed constant humiliation. Wei Ying had nothing, and then got tangled into the fucked up dynamics of the Jiangs.
2. Both were found to be much different than what people believed them to be. Wei Wuxian was supposed to be evil, hateful, a murderer who kills just to satisfy his blood thirst and need for power, a monster. Jin Guangyao was supposed to be the guy who worked hard and rose to the top, humble, kind, honest and pure of heart.
3. Both had their reputations destroyed from targeted rumor mill.
That is all.
Other than that, Jin Guangyao is NOT at all similar to Wei Wuxian by any measure. He had to do bad things because he desired power, and to gain, power in a corrupt world, you need to be even more corrupted. He killed all those who looked down upon him (not bodily harm him). He clenched his teeth and killed everyone who protested against him or questioned him. He silenced everybody before they could silence him. He isn't SOLELY responsible but he only played the cards that would bring HIM benefit, not the cards that were righteous, or good, or kind.
Wei Wuxian never desired power, was willing to give up a limb for the safety of his sect. When has he ever raised his sword or his flute if not in self defense? When has he ever attacked first and when has he ever killed an innocent? The only innocent he's most directly responsible for is Jin Zixuan and that was too, in an ambush, where he was asked to back down.
Not just that, everyone is always talking about the Nightless City massacre but never about the Burial Mounds Seige 2.0 where all of the cultivators WOULD have DIED, if not for Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian.
If your reasoning behind justifying Jin Guangyao's actions and murders is the "intention" then you come across as hypocritical if you condemn Wei Wuxian for the Nightless City massacre, ignoring everything that led to it. His prowess in cultivation, his natural genius, and his terrifying powers that he built himself even after losing a core are not crimes that he should be punished for, but he was. Because he's supposed to be just the son of a servant. How dare he be so powerful? So many attempts on his life were made and he survived them all. So many attempts to summon his soul, and they didn't work.
Is surviving a crime? For the Jiang Cheng stans who always thrust the survivor narrative onto JC, this is a question for them. Was Wei Wuxian wrong to have survived incidents in which he was being attacked? Should he have died for doing absolutely nothing wrong, other than having a different voice? For standing against a structure that always prioritizes one being above all, being the ultimate voice that cannot be questioned?
Here I'm going to quote some parts from the ExR translation of Villanous Friends:
He Su, “What was the irresistible trend? What was stirring up trouble? Jin GuangShan wanted to establish the position of chief cultivator only to imitate the QishanWen Sect in being the only ones at the top. Do you think all the world is ignorant? You frame me like this only because I spoke the truth!”
When you really succeed, all of the world of cultivation would see the true face of the LanlingJin Sect. Do you think killing me alone would put you eternally at ease? How wrong you are! We, the TingshanHe Sect, teem with talent. From now on, we’ll unite and never surrender to you Wen-dogs of another skin!”
Sounds familiar?
After a few laughs, he continued, “Sect Leader Jin, let me ask you something else. Do you think that, because the QishanWen Sect is gone, the LanlingJin Sect has all right to replace it?”
Wei WuXian added, “Everything has to be given to you? Everyone has to listen to you? Looking at how the LanlingJin Sect does things, I almost thought that it was the QishanWen Sect’s empire all over again.”
Wei WuXian, “Did I say something wrong? Forcing living people to be bait and beating them up whenever they refused to obey—is this any different from what the QishanWen Sect does?”
These were voices that questioned the greater powers. This is what happened to these voices:
Jin Guangyao: That’s not the way to go about things, is it? The TingshanHe Sect rebelled and schemed to assassinate Sect Leader Jin with all its forces before it was caught red-handed. How could that be called without a reason?”
Flashback to Wen Chao, asking if the disciples in the Xuanwu Cave were rebelling when they protected Mianmian who was asked to be the live bait of a monster.
Also, flashback to Wei Wuxian standing up for the Wens and being called a rebel when he stood up for the Wens who were being used as live baits to strengthen the Jin.
The ones over there cried, “Brother! He’s lying! We didn’t, we didn’t!”
Flashback to Wen Ning "losing control" at Koi Tower probably due to Xue Yang's invention. But the point to be taken away is that Sect Leader He Su's younger disciples, who are harmless, are framed as murderers. A position similar to what Wei Wuxian was put into.
He Su, “Utterly nonsense! Open your eyes and fucking look! There are nine-year-old children here! Old men who can’t even walk! How could they rebel against anything?! Why would they assassinate your dad out of nowhere?!”
Funny how the evils of society comprised of old grandmas, uncles, a toddler, a doctor, a fierce corpse, and a cultivator with no status, no core, no money, no voice living in a cave with a pool of blood, digging the Burial soil to grow some potatoes.
And not those who were sitting on their thrones, reveling in riches and ordering people around.
Jin GuangYao, “Because you made a mistake and committed murder, Young Master He Su, while they refused to accept Koi Tower’s conviction of you, of course.”
"A mistake" reminds me of the incident at qionggi path. Even if Jin Zixuan hadn't died that day, they would've kept cornering Wei Wuxian until he'd have no other choice but to go on the offensive (which is what he did.)
Turns out even being sooo powerful that he could shake mountains, he eventually died.
Yet, at such a place, nobody would listen to his protests. Sitting before him were two villains who already treated him as though he were dead. What they enjoyed was precisely his dying struggle. Smiling, Jin GuangYao leaned back, waving his hand, “Hush him up, hush him up.”
"You shut them in live?"
Xue Yang turned around, curling his lips, “Wei WuXian never used live humans, but I wanna try.”
So, Xue Yang is an actual demonic cultivator who's protected by the Jins, murdered 2 entire clans and this is the third one and godness knows how many more. Absolutely very few people give actual fucks about what cultivation methods to employ. The one who really cared was perhaps, Lan Wangji.
Jin Guangyao as you can see isn't being "forced" to kill people because he's of lower birth and nobody accepts him :(
He's killing people to silence those who speak against his and his father's (and they both are one and the same entity. he's acting on his father's orders which he could've disobeyed and run away but he would lose his sect reputation and standing.)
Why does his reputation and standing mean more than the lives of all these 70 people ?
Were they trying to kill him? No.
Did they attack him first to the point he would lose his life? No.
Would they have thrown him into a whore house? No.
Let us please not compare Wei Wuxian and Jin Guangyao.
MXTX wants us to know what's said and told may not be right. Wei Wuxian isn't fond of the techniques that are used to confirm Jin Guangyao's demise. He's critical of how nobody else is concerned. He's unsure of what NHS's motivations are - does he now want complete power? or did his plan only extend up to his revenge? He's critical of how only yesterday people were all over this guy and today they hate him. Critical of how society works on what is favourable and not what is true.
But he's not SUPPORTIVE of Jin Guangyao. He's sympathetic to people turning onto you, but not empathetic towards Jin Guangyao. He believes Jin Guangyao to be a cruel man.
Those are two different things.
Nobody knows better than Wei Wuxian how it feels to be set up at every step:
1. Firstly he was used as a punching bag for Madam Yu and an emotional one for JC throughout his childhood
2. The Wens completely played him up, setting him as the cause of LP's fall.
3. Then, he was played by the Jins and the cultivation world until his death by validating JC's jealousy against him, by villianizing him and estranging him, by setting up the ambush, by sending JZX, by making false promises, by not checking for validity, by controlling Wen Ning, by setting up the seige parade, by getting JYL there, and finally the seige. (even after his death disrespecting his all)
4. He was brought back to the world on the revenge plans of NHS and tossed like a tennis ball from the plans of NHS and JGY. Yi City arc? children would've died -> NHS. Burial Mound seige 2.0? everyone would've died -> JGY. if LWJ wasn't with him at every step of the way, Wei Ying would've once again been in such a spot. Without any status or authority he would've gotten no help, no aid, and been villianized once more. He would've been stabbed and captured with nobody to save him. He would've made himself the bait without anybody to fight the monsters off.
Each of us have individual capacities and also, each of us have the one thing we cannot let happen:
1. Wei Ying can't let injustice prevail and sit by the side doing nothing
2. Jin Guangyao can't take in being stripped of power and being a lowlife again.
Those are two very different things. JGY made every decision he could to escape his grand fear, which was personal. I don't condemn his motivations personally cause I find them hot. Similar to how I find his character hot. Yet, he's not the hero on the opposite spectrum. He's not the lowlife who was killed because people can't handle people from lower birth statuses being on the top chairs for making decisions - but that is also true - but is not the reason behind his tragedy. Not the sole reason and also not the most important reason.
The most important reason is as it is said: he believes himself to be different and values his life over others, similar to Xue Yang. Their personalities vary greatly, yet his "true" friends were Xue Yang and Su She. (He showed glimpses of the truth and of his reality to LXC. So, he's hiding the truth and LXC doesn't wish to dig deeper anyways thus not a true friendship.) One wished to take revenge in extremely unfair shares, a clan for a finger. A clan for a son. The entire cultivation world could die but he couldn't be badmouthed or put on trial or killed. The other - Su She, wished to be recognized by those who he equally hated, despised and considered arrogant and also was jealous and envious of. So, these two traits - great desire for revenge onto everyone who's ever said anything mean about him, and the desire for power. You may argue how this developed from his childhood trauma but you can't argue that this justifies his cold blooded crimes because it doesn't. Another thing I'd like to add is that, his friendship with Lan Xichen also shows his personality; not wanting to take the messy, big path (such as showing up to your own death planning party, or planning a death party) and his relatively calm nature. Yet just like the friendship it is fragmented and fake; a composure that is stuck onto the cold, and hot brimming desire for power.
There was one character who had to kill a large number of people or would have no other option left and it wasn't Jin Guangyao. There was one character who was hated by society solely because of his background and his desire to protect people and it wasn't Jin Guangyao. There was one character who had to give up everything for what he believed in and it wasn't Jin Guangyao. There was one character who ended up being the indirect reason for the passing of loved siblings due to the unjust society.
and it wasn't Jin Guangyao.
(but there were two characters who had confirmed sex before marriage. one of them was Jin Guangyao)

藍色的花,紅色的蘭 {Lan se de hua, hongse de lan}
by Admiranda (@ladypfenix), AshayaTReldai (@ashayatreldai)
M, WIP, 45k, Wangxian
Part of the MXTX Epic Journeys Big Bang
Summary: Before the ill-fated nighthunt that took their lives, Cangse-sanren chose to send a letter imploring and threatening a man who held a life debt to her that if things should go wrong, he would find and take in her child, swearing otherwise that she would haunt him to the end of her days. Lan Qiren was not pleased by the reminder, but for whatever else that anyone has to say, he is an honorable man. If this is what she will accept as a fulfillment of the debt that he owes her, then he will undertake it. A Wei Ying grows up as a part of Gusu Lan AU. Kay's comments: You know, sometimes I just need that good old Wei Wuxian grows up in the Lan Sect story featuring: actually, Lan Qiren isn't as bad as in canon. Admiranda and AshayaTReldai are also an amazing duo of authors and the story is really beautiful. I love the world-building and the general vibes of the story and it's also just really soft. And, Wei Wuxian is a little older than Lan Wangji, which I adore, because that's one of my favourite headcanons. And the story also features beautful art, so it's really delightful all around! Excerpt: Oh yes, he could see Wei Changze in his son; if the eyes weren’t a dead give-away, then the quiet strength the child projected would be. He has clearly been surviving on his own these last however many weeks. The mix of strength and vulnerability was winsome, and Lan Qiren felt a part of his heart he’d long buried and thought dead uncomfortably spark with life. Wei Changze… why her? He could see the child was thirsty, and handed over a water jar, removing the stopper. The boy guzzled a couple of mouthfuls and handed it back, wiping his mouth with a dirty sleeve. “A-Ying, I knew your parents when we were young. I’m a friend of theirs. Your mother asked me to come and find you. I don’t know what happened to them, but if they haven’t returned to you by now, it’s likely that it’s because they have been unable to do so.” The boy’s eyes were fixed on him unblinkingly. Lan Qiren reached into his sleeve, glad for his prescience in thinking to stow half of his breakfast away, and drew out a steamed bun, offering it to the child. A-Ying’s eyes went round with desire and uncertainty. “Go on,” Lan Qiren said gruffly. “I wouldn’t hold it out to you if I didn’t mean you to have it.” Immediately a grubby hand grasped it gently and brought it to his lips. But before he could take a bite he paused, broke the bread in two, and offered the larger bit to Lan Qiren. And that, right there, was Cangse-sanren, generous to a fault, putting others before herself.
pov alternating, canon divergence, canon era, wei wuxian isn't adopted by the jiangs, orphan wei wuxian, loss of parents, friends to lovers, slow burn, childhood friends, childhood friends to lovers, good uncle lan qiren, good sibling lan xichen

Fic Finder
~*~
1. Hi! I'm looking for a fic which was about LWJ and his feelings about relation WWX&LSZ. It was post-canon fic. LWJ felt hurt because Sizhui was formal while speaking to him meanwhile he treated WWX like parent, calling him Baba (or other word but with the same meaning)or joking with him etc. LWJ haven't told anyone. I remember that they were going to nighthunt but LWJ fainted and that's how WWX noticed that sth is wrong. WWX told Sizhui sth like "your father miss you"
~*~
2. Hi, I was wondering if you know a fanfic where it’s like during war time, wei ying and nie mingjue get together and than add lan zhan to the mix. Thank you @chloecov4506

At least the description reminds me of this one

3. Hey! Hope you guys are doing well.
I was looking for this fanfic where the sects send their heirs to vanquish the Yiling Patriarch, but none of them return. Even Lan Sizhui goes missing, and Jin Ling takes matters into his own hands and goes to find the Yiling Patriarch himself because he's grieving.
So he goes there but the situation is entirely different. All the sect heirs are at Burial Mounds safe and dound they just didn't go back because of all the responsibilities their parents have for them.
Also, Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian are actually together, and Wangji just sent Sizhui because the teen misses his other baba. And so when Jin Ling gets to know and Lan Wangji comes and they establish them as a new sect and all that jazz.
I'm not sure if the fix is actually complete. But please find this for me cuz I really really love the feels in this fic. @poetic-writes
FOUND! Safe in the Arms of a Demon by Starlight1395 (G, 19k, JC & JL & WWX, wangxian, LJY/LSZ, canon divergence, angst w happy ending, hurt/comfort, WWX doens’t die instead quarantines in BM, WWX adopts every child he sees, uncle nephew bonding)
~*~
4. help to find a fic please. So there was this Wangxian fic, where Lan Wangji is rescued after being tortured. I don't think it was very long; probably on the shorter side. One quirk I remember is the narration being in second person, though I don't know if I'm remembering correctly. There was a mention of sea glass near the end of the fic. That's all the details I remember. Please help me find the fic.
I think #4 is one of those mer type fics, where lan zhan is held hostage and either his scales are being harvested for medicine or he's tortured to give tears, I have to research some more , but does the requestor think it could be along those lines ?
FOUND? ocean eyes by bunnylan (weiyingpretty) (T, 10k, WangXian, Modern AU, Human WWX, mermaid LWJ, Childhood Friends, Memory Magic, Getting Back Together, Fluff, Angst with a Happy Ending, First Love, Hurt/Comfort, First Meetings, Mutual Pining, Temporary Amnesia) tho I don't know if this is 2nd person narration ?
~*~
5. Hi!! I'm looking for a fic where lwj is a fanfic writer and wwx was a podficer? is that the word? anyways that's all I remember from it because I only read the summary :')
FOUND! Your Words, My Voice by AverageFandomEnjoyer (T, 5k, wangxian, modern, canon divergence, fluff, kissing, pining, falling in love, writer LWJ, podficcer WWX, meet-cute, minor miscommunication) and has a podfic! :)
~*~
6. Could you please help me find a colored-blood fic? It was canon divergent, where people with golden cores had golden blood (and normal people had normal red blood). After the core transfer WWX’s blood slowly turns back to red and he has to be careful not to get injured or it will show that he lost his core. In that scene after he is revived JC doesn’t whip him, WWX pretends to be MXY and shows his red blood to “prove” it. I am dying to read this again! It was most likely on ao3.
FOUND? who cares when you're gone by camellialice (M, 22k, WangXian, Hades (Video Game) Fusion, Canon-Typical Levels of Self-Sacrifice, Canon-Typical Levels of Spitting Up Blood, Canon-Typical Levels of Pining) this is a bit of a stretch, but 'who cares when you're gone' by camellialice on ao3 might be #6 on the fic finder. it has the gold blood / red blood thing but not the mo xuanyu part of the ask.
~*~
7. Hi can you help me find a fic I read a couple of years ago? It was a modern au where all the sect heirs were sent to another planet/alternate reality (?) for some kind of reality TV show. I think JGS was behind it but for some reason also sent JZX. I remember that NMJ is killed while they are trying to escape and WWX stays behind alone to allow the rest to escape. 15. Hi could you help me find this fic, I think it's been deleted
I know the summary went like this
Wei Wuxian begins weakly, but Lan-laoshi, cruel as he is, continues speaking.“Well? I have provided you with three choices. You move, you act, or you let Wangji tutor you after school.” Lan-laoshi raises an eyebrow. “I, of course, recommend option two, as it would solve everyone’s problems, but alas. Teenagers.”He should choose to move classes. Lan-laoshi is right – it would help him focus, and it would help his grades, and Madam Yu would be less disappointed in him than she usually is. And Lan Wangji would be rid of him, which would undoubtedly make him more comfortable in his own damn class. But Wei Wuxian is weak. And horrible, and selfish, and so he chooses the third option. “Lan Wangji,” he says, turning to him with pleading eyes, “Lan-er-gege, light of my life – would you terribly mind tutoring me after school?”
Any help would be appreciated @imgonnablogtheworldtodeath

wwx gets de aged (post canon) and doesn’t remember that Jiang Yanli is dead but he gets happy to see jin Ling even says something about JY to him (that he should address him better cause he’s his nephew). Then he goes to lotus pier because he wants to be with JC but he starts remembering more things and is sent back  to cloud recess. The more the time pases the more he remembers and he gets where he remembers the wens, he’s happy to see Sizhui but discontented with the fact that after all he dies.
After that, His body kind of shuts down (replicating  the years that was dead) and lwj has to keep passing energy so he doesn’t die and after a week or something he finally wakes up with full memory of what happened.

Here's part two of the mermaid au doodles!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The drama has arrived
More ramblings about what's happening under the cut!
part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | part 4 | part 5
They're at some sort of a social event of the clans that takes place on a ship, definitely not lwj's wedding though since he wasn't engaged to mm in the first place (much to lqr's irritation.)
Jgy has been getting close to lxc in hopes of potentially advancing his status through marrying into the Lan clan because his future at Jin clan is seeming pretty dim at the moment. Whether he has actual feelings for lxc is up to you. There's only one problem, that being lwj who seems to know he's up to something and needs to be dealt with. Though the younger of the twin jades isn't known for either drinking or partying hard, quite the opposite, him drinking alcohol by mistake and stumbling over the edge is believable enough. The Lans aren't known for their high tolerance after all.
What jgy hasn't accounted for is that now there's someone practically glued to lwj's side. He waits for the right moment that just doesn't come, so he just decides to go for it. He can be subtle, distracting them with small talk (that is frustratingly hard when lwj only gives one word answers and his friend only communicates with sign language he doesn't understand,) but wwx ends up catching him slip the drug into lwj's drink anyway. He sees red and in a fit of protective rage he attacks jgy, slipping back into his original form.
The humans are horrified and nmj hauls wwx off jgy. (Ironic I know, but he hates the "seamonsters" more than he hates jgy.) Wwx slams into the railing of the deck and curls up in pain before lwj rushes to him. Wwx had not revealed his true form to lwj in fear of him seeing him as a "monster" and loosing him. As they stare at each other in other in horror (wwx bc his secret is out and Lan Zhan must hate him now and lwj because he is reeling from how is he going to protect Wei Ying in a situation like this) lxc comes to try and pull him back from the dangerous creature that's been hiding under their noses for weeks.
This is as far as I've drawn so far but there'll probably be more to come later!

Practice
While it was true that Wei Ying and Lan Zhan had been travelling for the past two or three months to lands far away from the Cloud Recesses, neither of them had expected to find many changes in the place and the way it functioned upon their return.
The Lan sect rarely implemented new things and was resistant to giving up any of the old ones - so it was no wonder that the two were overcome with confusion upon walking through the gates of the Cloud Recesses and finding the junior disciples holding some very noisy dolls bundled up in blankets like newborns.
Sizhui, Jingyi, Zizhen and a few of their other friends had gathered underneath the large tree overlooking the bunny field, holding these dolls and talking amongst themselves not unlike a bunch of fresh mothers.
Some were feeding their dolls using little bottles with talismans on them, others rocked them to sleep, and the rest played and cooed at them like they were real children.
"What's going on here? What are you guys doing?" Wei Ying asked, at last, overcome with curiosity. "I don't remember a parenting class being taught around here."
"It was Zewu-Jun's idea." Sizhui responded, tucking his doll better in its blankets before continuing, "He argued that parenting and caring for others are important life skills we should be taught alongside cultivation and rules. So, we were given these dolls and instructions on how to care for them. For added realism, the dolls have talismans etched into them that simulate crying, laughing and other behaviors a real baby would have."
"And some babies are a lot worse than others." Jingyi whined, rocking his doll to his chest with the expression of an exhausted new mother that hadn't slept within the past several... lifetimes. "I don't think I'm ever going to have children if it means I only get to sleep when I close my eyes to blink."
Wei Ying laughed, taking his usual seat among the gaggle of juniors, his husband joining him a little a-ways. "How come you weren't paired up? Babies are usually a two-person project."
"That's what I said!" Jingyi replied, barely stopping himself in time from throwing his baby up in the air with a frustrated gesture. "But apparently we need to exercise independence and self-sufficiency... or whatever the hell else Zewu-Jun said."
"Jingyi, language." Sizhui chided, an apologetic look towards his seniors.
"I don't want to hear it, I'm too tired to care about the rules."
"Young parents are exempt from most rules." Hanguang-Jun intervened, "However, it is not advisable to curse in front of children."
"Yeah, they pick it up immediately! For example-"
"Let's not give examples." Sizhui cut in, knowing good and damn well senior Wei was about to tell an embarrassing story about him as a toddler.
Wei Ying snickered, ruffling Sizhui's hair. "Okay, no examples. So, how's fatherhood treating you? Since it seems like Jingyi got the short end of the stick here..."
"It's fine, my baby is quite calm and-"
"Sizhui's being modest for no reason, he's actually mastered this whole thing." Zizhen added as he attempted to burp his own baby. "He's so in tune with that doll, he knows when it's gonna go off crying and exactly what to do to calm it down!"
Sizhui blushed at the praise. "I have always been good with children, so it's not a big deal to me..."
Lan Zhan smiled a proud, rare smile towards him as he took Zizhen's doll to help, a little burping sound leaving it seconds later, and giggle following. "You must be patient. If you move too harshly, the baby will throw up."
"My, my, Hanguang-Jun is daddy material, who would've known!" Wei Ying teased, laughing at his husband's red ears. "Maybe we should get one of these babies too, you know, for practice."
"Wei Ying."
"Or we could always make our own~"
Jingyi sighed loudly as his baby began screeching. "Senior Wei, I slept 5 hours in the past three nights, please don't be shameless in front of me right now."

Wei Wuxian copes with his crush on Lan Wangji by going out with people all the time. He spends a lot of his time wishing they were Lan Zhan before breaking up with them in a few weeks. Sometimes, the person he dates is almost a double of Lan Wangji - straight-laced, tall, dark and serious. Other times, he dates people so different he can almost forget he's in love with someone else.
Being Wei Wuxian's best friend and roommate, Lan Wangji spends a lot of time listening to him wax poetic about whoever he's seeing at the minute or who he's interested in. Lan Wangji barely copes with Wei Wuxian's serial dater tendencies, and spends a lot of time with his brother when Wei Wuxian is seeing someone to avoid conversation about his current partner.
When they finally get together, Lan Wangji spends the first couple weeks in pure bliss but then starts to get anxious. Wei Wuxian never lasts much longer than this in a relationship.
Lan Wangji eventually confesses his worries to Lan Xichen - “Wei Ying falls in love every week, why should I expect him to give me anything different?”
Livid, Lan Xichen calls Wei Wuxian as soon as Lan Wangji is asleep after crying on him. His brother never cries.
Wei Wuxian is horrified and almost can't believe it when he hears. He's loved Lan Zhan since they were 15! When Lan Wangji comes back to their apartment they have a heart to heart with each other and say their "I love you"s.

ok but
i came up with what i think is an incredibly cute idea for a mdzs au and i really might add it to my project list cuz it tickles my fancy.
i'm dying thinking about it so let me give as small of a summary as i can here lmao
*the big change here is LWJ. LWJ is essentially a lot less restrictive, but...mainly with WWX! Think of this slightly like a sober-drunk LWJ.
-WWX meets LWJ at Cloud Ressesses, as per usual. he's still strict, but something about him seems softer around WWX than with other people, and others notice it immediately while WWX has no fucking clue. (this doesn't mean he's not aware, this just means it's too early for him to understand there's a difference).
-LWJ intentionally catches WWX every time he does something against the rules, and is secretly the happiest guy ever bc he now gets to sit with WWX every day for hours. this will help it still be a surprise for WWX when LWJ starts opening up to him bc why does strict lan suddenly wanna friend me??
-it does not take long before LWJ is actually seeming to open up even if not in the way WWX expected. (at least a month so after his punishment) as a result, WWX stops doing as much bad things to get LWJ's attention, and simply hangs out with him a ton. (Jc is a bit jealous bc he always wants the two to hang alone. He doesn't think about it too much though cuz wwx is always outgoing so he thinks he's probably overthinking it- not that he thinks they're in a relationship at this point)
-WWX starts behaving a bit, just because he wants to hang around longer, but still ends up punching Jin Zixuan. As a result, LWJ convinces uncle to let him go to Lotus pier as both an escort and to study there since he's already a great lan student! (aka he just wants to stick around WWX) and after a great battle with the of eyes he is allowed to go.
-Thus starts the little adventures of our young couple doing whatever the hell they want for a while.
maybe i'll touch more on this later but
i decided to nickname the au "He's Definitely Sober" for now. if i change it i change it lol
i mean...think about it, just imagine this scene but with a sober lwj. i would literally die. it's like, some of my favorite things. I have always wished there was more of this lmao
scenario for fun-
LWJ: Wei Ying. WWX: Lan Zhan?
LWJ: I love Wei Ying. WWX: You what
LWJ: I want to court you. WWX: YOU WHAT
LWJ: i'll ask uncle in the morning. WWX: ////////???? REWIND.
LWJ: *shoves armful of gentian flowers in his arms* please. WWX, lost, flustered, and who knows what else: o...okay.
...and thus an awkward convo with jc the next day:
WWX, holding his flowers: so...
JC: *squints* WWX: i might have gotten asked about being courted...
JC: ...you're a man! WWX: i said that too but...
JC: but?? WWX: we're both guys so its hard to argue against
JC: *freezes, looking seconds from qi deviation*
somewhere in the Yashi Lan Qiren is also looking pretty similar.

I'm still insanely busy but I missed sharing some of my writing for WIP Wednesday so since I have some time today: have some wangxian pining from my Huli Jing!wwx fic.
--
That night, after he came back from gathering wood for the fire, he found a painting on his bedroll; when exactly Wei Ying had found the time to paint it, he didn’t know. It was messy and on a cheap scroll, with the ink a little smudged in some places yet it still looked beautiful; Of all subjects to choose from, Wei Ying had painted him, looking calm and serene, sitting on a grassy hill surrounded by white and black rabbits. One was in his lap, peacefully napping. At the bottom, Wei Ying had scrawled a message: Since I can’t catch rabbits to give you yet, have this for now. When I get better materials and a desk, I’ll give you a prettier one! Maybe with a real bunny to cuddle with!
Lan Wangji stood there for a while, his heart beating so fast it felt as if it might burst out of his chest. What could this gift mean? Was it a prank? A joke? Or something heartfelt? Did friends really give each other paintings like this? Was this flirting? But if it was, how seriously should he take it? Lan Wangji had noticed that whenever they passed through a village, Wei Ying was quick to strike a conversation with the young maidens and to tease and flirt his way into getting some snacks for the road. Was this something similar, some fun to be had on the road with the only person around?
Or was this something else, something more?
When he came back to camp, Wei Ying didn’t mention the painting, simply grinned at him knowingly once he saw Lan Wangji carefully tucking it away in his pack. That grin somehow felt even more precious than any others, something just between the two of them.

how good mdzs/the untamed characters are at standup comedy
Wei Wuxian: 10/10
Wei Wuxian is great at standup comedy, obviously. He canonically makes very clever literary references and puns when naming things, so I think he’d have a great set, mostly improv’d which just makes it more impressive. He’s making witty cultural references and long-winded stories that have a genuis punch line at the end, and maybe pokes too much fun at certain *cough* audience members, but it’s not like weird transphobic ‘comedy.’ Wei Wuxian would also have so many buckwild stories to tell, and most audience members just think he’s bullshitting them, but then they get home and check his wikipedia page and learn he’s for realsies and has been declared dead three times.
Jiang Cheng: 2/10 on his own and 9/10 w Wei Wuxian
So, Jiang Cheng has negative desire to do standup comedy. He’s in the spotlight, he has to be charismatic, he has to not fuck it up, and it’s a nightmare for him. It’s also a nightmare for the audience as he stutters and becomes increasingly awkward and distressed. It’s like watching a traincrash:  it’s horrible but you can’t look away. He’ll never to do standup-- except at Wei Wuxian’s behest. Their double act is mostly Wei Wuxian pulling the weight, and Jiang Cheng making excellent dry and snide commentary. It’s some good banter with the lads. They’re the Twin Comedians of Yunmeng.
Jiang Yanli: 5/10
I don’t think Yanli has any desire to really do standup, but I think if she did, she’d be pretty nervous but have some charming stories to tell of cooking mishaps when learning new recipes or funny things a-Ling did. Honestly, it feels more like one of those radio segments where someone just talks about a poignant moment in their lives, and it’s really nice and enjoyable and you get a really strong idea of who she is and how she loves and it’s beautiful. It’s not really comedy but, like, Jin Zixuan and her brothers are ready to throw hands if you disagree or heckle her.
Jin Zixuan: 2/10
Jin Zixuan thinks he can do standup comedy until the faithful day, where he walks on stage for the first time and realizes he has no idea what he’s doing. It’s awkward and it’s pretty snobby and it’s not doing him any favors in the ‘getting Yanli’s brothers to like him’ department. If Jiang Cheng is a sopping wet scrunkly and pathetic cat, Jin Zixuan is the weird birthday gift your out of touch relatives who you see once in a blue moon give you. ‘An avacado.... thanks....’
Lan Wangji: 5/10 with Wei Wuxian
In regards to standup, Lan Wangji is an immovable object. You cannot get him to even consider going on stage, and yet, Wei Ying is his unstoppable force. Like his set with Jiang Cheng, Lan Wangji mostly just stands there for commentary, but doesn’t really have JC’s snark, so it’s not as sharp, not as funny, but it’s pretty cute watching them do a set together until they’re making bedroom eyes at each other onstage and are 2 seconds away from passionately making out on stage.
Lan Xichen: 6/10
Lan Xichen is more charismatic, more personable than his brother, but he still has the Lan Weirdness. His standup set is passable, kind of basic, and is mostly carried by his innate charisma and stunningly good looks. Su She is so pissed about this. What really makes his act memorable however, is that every once in a while, he tells a really weird fucking story about his family like it’s nothing. The audience is collectively shocked and confused and leaves the bar thinking ‘his dad did what?!’
Nie Mingjue: 4/10
Nie Mingjue will only get on stage if Huaisang begs him too, which unfortunately for him, is far too often, or if Lan Xichen asks, which is equally bad. I feel like Nie Mingjue has a specific brand of humor you kind of have to be friends with him to get, and he doesn’t quite have the charisma to do a good set, but he knows the ropes from how many times Huaisang has made him get on stage. Xichen asked him and Jin Guangyao for all of them to do a set together, and.... everyone in the room was uncomfortable during that. Never again.
Jin Guangyao: 8/10
Jin Guangyao can do a good standup set. Of course he can! He knows how to tailor the jokes and the bits to the audience and build up a good rapport. But at what cost? Everytime he gets on stage and smiles his customer service smile to do another ~fun standup comedy night~ a part of himself dies that he will never get back. Lan Xichen has learned his lesson in asking both his boyfriends for a standup threesome, but he still asks a-Yao if he wants to get on stage, either alone or with him. He’ll do it for Xichen, but he is still suffering.
Nie Huaisang: 10/10
This bitch is hilarious even though he’s not the biggest fan of the spotlight. Nie Huaisang is great at clever humor and cultural references with a signature blend of self-deprecating jokes that are light hearted and funny and never get too weird and self-loathing. He definitely plays up a ditzy persona, but has the receipts on everyone in the room, and while he will only pull them out at the right moment, if it calls for that, he isn’t afraid to do it.
Jin Zixun: -99999/10
He just makes shitty offensive ‘jokes’ that deliberately provoke and punch down audience members. Midway through his first set, Wei Wuxian punches him and Yanli verbally destroys him. After that, everyone is ready to kick the shit out of him, physically or emotionally, when he even so much as glances at the stage.
Su She: 1/10 or 7/10
I think Su She is either really bad at standup or really good, and no one admits that he’s actually hot shit. On the bad side of the spectrum, it’s another Jin Zixuan. On the good side of the spectrum, he’s making really witty commentary and carefully placed and wondrously executed bits, but because he was kind of cringey in middle school, no one wants to admit that he actually really is All That. Either way, Jin Guangyao is coming to all of his shows, front row seat, cheering his bestie and maybe sort of boyfriend on.
Wen Ning: N/A
I get really big stagehand or stage tech energy from Wen Ning. I think he’s too anxious and doesn’t really want to be on stage or do stand up comedy. I think he thinks standup is kind of cringey, but he’ll never say it to anyone’s face. I think Wen Ning would excel at funny written reviews of things.
Wen Qing: N/A
She would only get on stage for Wen Ning, and he would never ask that of her. I think like many others here, it’s not her thing, she doesn’t want it to be her thing, and she’ll watch her friends but not get into it more. Wei Wuxian thinks she’s hilarious and tries to get her onstage, but she will never humor him, except maybe if he’s super depressed b/c he misses his siblings. I think, her comedy wheelhouse is commentary reviews/banter. Like if she ever made a commentary podcast with Jiang Cheng where they just watch and bitch about marvel movies or something, it’d be a fucking hit.
I don’t know what the Yi City gang would do, but I keep thinking of Xue Yang saying ‘I’m da joker baybee’ and talking about how it’d be so crazy if the joker could be beatbox, and Song Lan and a-Qing fucking hate it.

Lan Qiren modern AU fosters cats. He does not keep them. They are not HIS pets. But he fosters them constantly. Like. Kitten season is absolutely chaos at the main family house. Lan Xichen stopped asking to keep them around 8 cause he realized he was always a little relieved when the house was quiet, but Lan Wangji never really wanted one for himself at all. But. Lan Qiren proves himself a liar several times when he’s got a grumpy old cat in the manor all rubbing up on him and grooming his kids and he’s all ‘oh. Okay. We can keep that one’ and keeps fostering others. Just. Also. Now the kittens will have grumpy old uncles to check on them as they play too.
His fostering system also goes out the window when Lan Wangji comes home with a kid who Wangji found with a scraped knee at the park (the park across the street, and even tho Uncle is directly outside in the garden watching you, do not mean you should cross the street with someone else’s kid, A-Zhan, what if they think Uncle uses you to lure children inside????) and Lan Qiren notices that for some reason they have Jiejie Yanli (who Wei Wuxian has kindly pointed out) watching over an entire children’s birthday party by herself with no help. Oooof.
So. He gathers the kids up, grabs Xichen from the sitting room where he’s practicing his xiao, and take them back to the party. Yanli is DEVASTATED when she realizes that not only is an adult (she’s only like 13 okay this burden should NOT have come on her) coming to correct her, but her precious baby brother has made it all the way across the street with a stranger while she wasn’t looking???
Lan Qiren has managed to wrangle all the kids together within 5 minutes, gotten several booboos bandaged and asked Yanli to pass out some small snacks to keep them busy for a minute. Just in time for Xichen to come back from across the street in another direction, with the Nie brothers. This is actually helpful for once cause Mingjue is 16 (wow. So. Big.) and NHS comes with crafting supplies at all times.
It might end up messier than usual, but even the birthday boy Jiang Cheng, was getting overwhelmed and upset in the party before. Now he’s making friends with the pretty boy DaGe brought to play with them, and Yanli is finally no longer panicking, so both the brothers can calm down. Wangji is married now, obviously. They will adopts many babies and play house all the time. Before they were sorta trying to wrangle the other kids themselves which lead to A-Ying getting pushed down, and A-Cheng getting into some fights.
Qiren sits Yanli down and explains to her that he’s not mad at her, he’s not even disappointed in her. He’s disappointed in her mother who thought it would be a good idea to put someone with such little life experience in charge of a party of 10-15 kiddos. Even he called Xichen to go get his older friend up the street for backup instead of doing that alone. He also gives her a hug. Xichen likes hugs, and he’s an affectionate kiddo, and the kittens have prepared Qiren well. She is very happy and notes down their house mentally as a trusted adult who can help, or probably knows someone who can.
Lan Qiren may be an expert kitten fosterer, which means he’s ready to storm the chaos and turn it into a bundle of fluff… but even he wasn’t quite ready for his nephew’s husband to move in with them with a baby at 20. At least he’s prepared. Life is funny sometimes.

Worst MDZS Ship…
The one ship I really dislike more than any other because of how toxic and impossible it would be for it to ever work is.
Xiao Xingchen and Xue Yang. I don’t care if the pairing is meant to be domestic friends or lovers of some kind it just doesn’t work.
Xue Yang never cares for him in the slightest, he doesn’t know how. For years he has him slaughter villages of innocent people, only stopping when he runs out.
I don’t even believe helping him with the groceries is an act of goodness and caring. He states that he hates going and rarely does, it’s forced on him by one of the others. He has Xiao Xingchen kill Song Lan. Not the act of someone who cares.
In his final fight with Lan Zhan he even admits this:
Wei Ying: Why did you kneel pitifully before me, begging me to restore his soul?
Xue Yang: Why? Humph! Like you don’t know?! He spat furiously. I’m gonna turn him into a fierce corpse, an evil spirit for me to command! He wants to be some kind of moral, virtuous cultivator, doesn’t he? I’ll make him kill nonstop without a day of peace!”
Sure he dies holding the candy, but it’s not about missing Xiao Xingchen if you ask me. He likes to think of his mortal enemy giving him treats of candy because he can’t see and never would if he could.
A-Qing said that he never expressed gratitude for it, but wouldn’t refuse either. She was mad about it for ages.
He likes controlling Xiao Xingchen, even if all he has left of him is that one piece of candy, he wants control to the very end.
EDIT
I have edited this posts tags due to complaints about starting drama over Xue Yang x Xiao Xingchen ship. I use tags to include whatever the main topic of my post is, not to cause trouble. I’m sorry if I made a mistake over that.
This post is my opinion only. If there’s something I don’t like or find problematic with MDZS, or any other characters or ships I post about it too. I have no problems with people who like Xue Yang, ship him with who you like I only meat to suggest it doesn’t work for me personally and gave my reasons, I may not have made that clear enough. No offence was intended.

💙 Love Song In Reverse

T, 237k, Wangxian
Summary: Wei Wuxian gasps back into life without a single memory left. His friends, his siblings, his home — all lost to the fog in his head, nothing more than a mystery slipping through his fingers. What else was there to do but carry himself around in bits and parts, trying to become whole, a letter waiting to be written? He is – he is Mo Xuanyu, isn’t he? In this body, with these people. This family. He has to be Mo Xuanyu, he didn’t know anything else, even if the name sounded wrong. That was all he had. Well, that and Hanguang-jun. Lan Wangji, for his part, has had his taste of love and lost it. In all his grieving and searching, he didn’t expect to find another. - Wei Wuxian gets resurrected, loses his memories, and falls in love. Kay's comments: I devoured this fic, I binged it and it really got its claws in me. I could barely put it down because it had me that hooked. There were so many moments in this story that just peeled my heart open and made me ache in the best way possible. In which Wei Wuxian gets resurrected as per canon, but without his memories. Canon unfolds and of course, he falls in love with Lan Wangji. At the same time, we have Lan Wangji who slowly falls for "Mo Xuanyu" and feels as if he betrays Wei Wuxian. So many misunderstandings and miscommunications and they are struggling, but it all pays off in the end with a wonderful catharsis. Character-wise it feels more The Untamed-like and there's also some background SangCheng and features some stunning fanart! Excerpt: But Lan Wangji was already looking at him, eyes steady. He’d drawn his hands back to rest on his knees. “What do you need?” He could just pretend he hadn’t asked for anything. Lan Wangji would probably let it go; he wasn’t one to push if he didn’t think it was necessary. And it was a horrible feeling to ask this. But he’d said all those stupid words for a reason, so he let the rest fall of his tongue, water droplets on the lake. “Can you say my name?” Lan Wangji did an amazing impression of raising a dubious eyebrow without moving a single muscle. Mo Xuanyu wished for just a second that Lan Wangji was the sort of man who would just take a request like this with no questions, instead of making Mo Xuanyu unravel all the feelings knotted up in his chest. “It’s just that — I don’t have anyone else to say it. Informally, I mean.” There was no one who might call him gently. Xuanyu, his mother might have said. A-yu, come along! And he couldn’t bounce back at her, dragging his feet and demanding carry me, shijie, Xianxian is only three! I’m not tall enough! There was no one at all who might call him anything but a title and it was lonelier than anything Mo Xuanyu could hope to explain. There was no one who could hope to know him more intimately than a “Mo-gongzi.” “Ah, it’s okay if you can’t, I’m just—” “Mo Xuanyu,” Lan Wangji said, interrupting him. He paused, giving the name weight. “Mo Xuanyu.” The name Wei Ying from Lan Wangji’s lips had been cloaked in more warmth than Mo Xuanyu had heard from anyone before. Mo Xuanyu’s name didn’t sound like that. Lan Wangji said it the same way he said everything else. Serious, considered, but not warm.
pov wei wuxian, canon divergence, retelling, amnesia, memory loss, angst with a happy ending, hurt/comfort, emotional hurt/comfort, slow burn, falling in love, grief/mourning, misunderstandings, mistaken identity, miscommunication, sangcheng, good parents lan wangji/wei wuixan, past abuse, no homophobia, jiang cheng tries, somebody lives/not everybody dies

I love your Nie Huaisang, he's so pretty!! I love the scheming pretty man so badly. Are there any Huaisang ships you like? I don't necessarily ship Wei Ying and him but I do think they got drunk and made out at least thrice
thank you ♥♥ the usual SangCheng was a ship i really enjoyed alongside chengxuan, jiang cheng has two hands and all that (well, actually i don't really do poly-shipping, it's more that i like those ships for him in different periods of time or scenarios, for someone who doesn't seek or like romance, jiang cheng is BOOKED.) just nhs pulling jc out of his shell, jc begrudgingly following nhs or listening to his wet dreams or something equally ridiculous, nhs being the same loud but compassionate presence that wwx used to be. them getting lcose during gusu days and then parting and then later down the line, with everything that happened, huaisang is still there, still the same, the one stable thing that hasn't change and jc would just kinda fall into his arms for an ounce of comfort, knowing nhs won't tell or make it weird. i really enjoyed wwx and nhs' friendship and they have big fuckbuddy energy before they go in their respective directions (wwx to lwj and nhs just stays free but "occupied" with different partner each time). really enjoy the shameless cockiness of them, i had a fic planned that's basically just big orgy of everyone to "strengthen" the alliance bonds and seeing as there's members like lwj, jzx and jc, wwx and nhs were the ones to brea kthe ice and get it all going :D i had a lot of fun with that idea but sadly it didn't get far as i'm already neck deep in near-done WIPs I can't seem to finish :')
i've never quite gotten into niecest and not because i'm against fictional sibling ships, i don't see the IT factor in the dynamic on a romantic way despite really enjoying them being protective of each other and understanding the visual appeal. I guess I enjoy them more where each of the brothers have their quirk, one is this playful slut (/postiive) and one bagged the forbidden fruit that is lxc, it just makes up for a fun dynamic :'D but i think i may be convinced if someone brings up a good idea
i also like nhs and jgy in their dnyamic BEFORE nhs learned about jgy's schemes, i liked jgy being the only peer for nhs and being gentle with him, even though nhs is this little lordling and jgy is basically their servant of sorts (SORRY IF I MISUNDERSTAND THE CANON DYNAMIC BUT THIS IS THE DYNAMIC I LIKE) and nhs talking to him like peer-to-peer and opening up and them covering for each other from nmj etc. i really enjoy that ;v; nhs needing jgy more than jgy needs nhs but it's fine, jgy is a giver. going from this comfort to how they grew apart, with jgy gone nhs's quarters grew quiet and cold and then jgy not acknowledging him much once he made it into jin's high status, nhs learning of jgy's crimes later on, it's just the good kind of heartbreaking.
my guilty pleasure is also nhs and jzx, not only because i love zixuan, but also because i enjoy the idea of the two lordlings meeting up since childhood for pleasantries and nhs always giving jzx's bad behavior the benefit of the doubt because not only is he not judgmental, but also he can understand where jzx is coming from. nhs trying to loosen jzx up as someone who's his peer and not "beneath" him, be open with him and often poke at his prudish inexperienced side when it comes to relationships :') nhs slowly including jzx into his problem trio (wwx-nhs-jc), him and wwx making jzx do something illegal during their gusu days and then having a laugh riot about it. idk, i feel like nhs is greatly compassionate when it comes to this and also i think he could acknowledge jzx's qualities or his good looks. publicly, in front of his friends, often.

That's why he's making six figures (working three days a week)
This is just self-indulgent sugar baby WWX thirst fic (and me inspiring myself to work hard and become Lan rich).
Warnings: slight suggestive implications
Wen Ning watches, splayed onto the newly acquired leather couch in his and Wei Wuxian's living room, as his roommate picks up yet another suspiciously unmarked box from his doorstep.
"New order?"
"Mhm!" An excited smile, "Lan Zhan tore through all my lingerie last week, so I ordered some more... among other things. Wanna see?"
"No, thank you!"
"Aw, come on, I thought you liked lace?" Wei Wuxian smiles, teasingly, and Wen Ning resolutely hides his face in a throw pillow. "Don't play innocent now, didn't you just buy a Victoria's Secret thong for-"
"Please stop talking!"
Wei Wuxian laughs, plopping the box onto the glass coffee table (which is also new, by the way, the sleek, fancy kind that has a hanging tray and double glass) and tears into the box like a feral cat.
Wen Ning looks, in spite of himself, and is surprised to see very few pieces of... well, it can't be called clothing, in the package, and a little black box that he does not want to know the contents of.
"That's... it? I expected... I don't know, a lot more of these... items, maybe. Wasn't this 1500$?"
"2500$, A-Ning." Wei Ying replies, playfully rolling his eyes as he scans through the items, assessing the sizes and the quality, and Wen Ning is scandalized how those... strings cost three times his highest ever wage.
"And Lan Wangji is... okay with this?"
"He massively encourages it." Wei Wuxian smiles, a bit too dreamy. "He likes it when I spend his money, says it's why he works for it."
Wen Ning looks at his friend, incredulous. "He works for it so someone else could spend it?"
"No. So I could spend it. It's a difference, A-Ning."
"Of course there is." he deadpans. "I'm just too poor to understand it."
Wei Ying shrugs as unpacks a... whatever that is. Wen Ning can't tell, it looks very intricate. "I don't understand it either, to be honest. But I get money and sex, so why bother?"
"You guys aren't official?"
Wei Wuxian tilts his head. "Official?"
"He hasn't - you guys are still... transactional?"
There is a ping, and Wei Wuxian picks up his brand new iPhone (that replaced his first generation knock-off smartphone, courtesy of a certain millionaire Lan), a smile on his face and eyes sparkling as he types a response quickly.
"Why would we be anything but that?" Wei Wuxian answers distantly as he takes a picture of the contents of the box, presumably to send to Lan Wangji.
He looks entirely smitten, and only an edge excited. Wen Ning gives him a flat look. "He... took you to Aruba, all expenses paid, just because you liked a picture of a beach on Instagram."
"All sugar daddies do that. Ask Huaisang."
"He gave you your own limitless black card."
"Again, that's regular sugar daddy behavior."
Wen Ning is trying not to become frustrated. "You met his family! On a yacht trip!"
"I was arm candy."
"Wei Wuxian! You've been with him and his son to Disneyland for the kid's birthday!"
Wei Wuxian falters ever so slightly. "Okay, yeah, that's sus, but consider this - he needed help with-"
"I'm calling Qing-jie."
Wei Wuxian throws a pair of panties at him. "You complain way too much for someone who got new furniture and a motorcycle just for being my best friend."
Wen Ning picks up the item off his head with the very tips of his fingers. "It's a full time job, Wei-gongzi."
"At least it pays better than your regular one!"
"Oh, by the way, the boss asked about you. Are you quitting or...?"
"Nah, I need something to do when Lan Zhan is busy or I start missing him."
Wen Ning stares, judgmentally. "And you guys aren't anything but client and provider."
"I don't know why you'd think-"
The phone rings and Wei Wuxian's face lights up as he immediately picks it up and skips to his room. "Lan Zhan! Are you coming back yet? I'm so lonely without you and I was thinking-"
Wen Ning sinks back into the plush sofa and sighs. Maybe he could ask Nie Huaisang about this sugar baby business one of these days, he's had quite enough of his workplace after all... It can't be that hard to manipulate people into giving you money, right?
And anyway, he's going to be needing it soon. Once Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji realize they're actually in love, they'll immediately get married and he'll need to get them a good wedding gift.
It's bad taste to use the money Wei Wuxian's given him to buy a gift for his wedding, right?

» While not having excessive experience with friendship, Lan Zhan has gathered enough from outside sources to construct a concept of it in his head. He has spent an inordinate amount of time trying to fit Wei Ying into the friendship category, but all his attempts were unsuccessful; no matter how hard Lan Zhan tries, how much he analyses and overanalyses their friendship, how much he extends the limits of friendship in his head, whatever the two of them have developed, it reaches beyond those limits.
Friends don’t call each other pet names in the tone Wei Ying does, friends don’t kiss each other’s cheek, forehead, neck or hand as tenderly as they do. Friends don’t say my Lan Zhan, with honey dripping from their lips. Of course, they are best friends, a label that’s bound to alter and expand the lines drawn around friendship, but Lan Zhan still does not understand. Which is the issue, as per usual. He does not understand what they really are. He’d be more than content with whatever little crumbs Wei Ying chose to give him, but Wei Ying keeps offering himself up on a plate, in a way he does not do with anyone else, and Lan Zhan does not understand the intention behind it.
