Ab-Soul - GOTTA RAP (Official Video)
youtube
Ab-Soul, the Carson, Ca rapper and member of the Top Dog Ent. Records family, has just released a new music video and song titled "Gotta-Rap," and it's a testament to his skills as a lyricist and rapper. The song features a classic-sounding hip hop beat with distinct-sounding horns, over which Ab-Soul confidently declares, "I'm the God of Rap, so I gotta rap."
Throughout the song, Ab-Soul laces it with original hip hop bars, showcasing his versatility and wordplay. The MC reps his section of Carson called Del Amo, and the video is filmed around his city at landmarks like the Crowns Drugs store. The video also features Ab-Soul riding around in a fresh whip with a beautiful woman, adding to the overall cool vibe of the track.
But it's not all about the flexing and the lifestyle. Ab-Soul also mentions his suicide attempt, reminding us that even the most successful and talented artists can struggle with mental health. It's a powerful moment in the song, as Ab-Soul bares his soul and reminds us that even the strongest among us can face dark times.
Overall, "Gotta-Rap" is a solid addition to Ab-Soul's discography, showcasing his skills as a rapper and his ability to create memorable and engaging tracks. If you're a fan of classic-sounding hip hop with a modern twist, or just great music in general, you need to check out this song and its accompanying video. Ab-Soul is one of the best in the game, and he doesn't disappoint with this one.

Thinking about the time I wanted to show my friend my favorite episode of puppet history after talking about it for months with her and trying to get her to watch it and I showed her the Great Molasses Flood and was laughing through the whole thing cause I love that episode and at the end she said "it would've been better if I was drunk" and I went. ok. And then she proceeded to make me watch like 5 of those old rap battles between either historical figures or fictional characters and she kept saying, isn't this so funny, these are so smart and great, they don't make videos like this anymore, and I had to sit there and say wow, and yeah, and that's pretty funny, as if she didn't just shit on my favorite episode from one of my favorite pieces of art, and then force me to watch rap battles with characters from movies I've never seen

Have a few asks in my inbox that all kinda deal with the same general idea, so I just figured I’d do a bigger post about it.
The big question: How do I not care what other people think of me?
The simple answer: I grew up redneck. Realistically, I am still very much a redneck. Specifically a redneck in an area that over the last 2 generations has very quickly been populated with rich people cause they discovered theres oil here. So the population is now like 25% country, 15% small town america vibes, and 60% Karens yelling about our small town traditions because ‘oh no there are chairs on the side walk for the holiday 😱’
So 1. I grew up hearing people shit on rednecks (aka me and my family and friends) constantly and 2. I grew up with music like this. Which led to 3. Developing a strong sense of individuality and pride in myself, a disdain for fitting, an ‘I dont give a shit what you think’ attitude, and a love of the simple things in life.
Give me a fire and some music and I’ll be happy. Hope this explains it well enough lol

ROSE: Schrodinger's Chekhov's gun. A detail in a story that looks like it should have some big payoff but it's too early to tell if that's relevant or if the author just has a passion for lovingly describing guns.
DIRK: Schrodinger's Chekov's Occam's razor: You find an inconsistent or inaccurate detail in a work that would be brilliant if it was foreshadowing a plot twist later on, but it's too early to tell whether the author expects you to be smart, and the simplest explanation is that they fucked up.

Yknow what honestly I'm kinda tired of only liking songs with deep meaning. Yes they are superior in my eyes. However. I would like to have FUN and not be SERIOUS so much so I am now throwing off my chains of only listening to deep, moving, emotionally-stirring music and I am crossing over to the dark side of Chill Vibes and Fun Music y'all seem like y'all are having fun over there

I feel like something critical missing from the current music discourse is that, while the excuses people make for not listening to rap ARE extremely racist and need to be called out, a lot of people don't actually need to expand their musical horizons, they just need to realize that music isn't actually like a core hobby of theirs.
We're all basic bitches it's fine. You don't need an excuse for only listening to top 40 hits and the same 2 albums since middle school, trying to summon one will inevitably lead to falling back on ingrained biases.
