Author's note: This story is a request, but I decided to freely use what I liked in the book and Disney film to create a new, disturbing story taking place in modern times. It is intended to be uncomfortable and will contain scenes that are at least morally questionable, in my version "Esmeralda" is not Romanian. This story will also include motifs from Jane Eyre, which was a separate request. My story will also touch on the problems of people with disabilities, so if these are sensitive topics for you, I advise against reading further. You have been warned.

_____
On that day it seemed to him that the whole world had turned against him. His coffee machine had broken down, there was more traffic than usual on the roads, he was sure he would be late for work, and his brother had woken up in a mood worse than always and cried all the way to the centre.
"I don't want to go there. I-I'm scared of some of those kids." He muttered under his breath, swallowing loudly, whooping with tears. He looked at him in the mirror, feeling a squeeze in his throat every morning when he left him there, but saw no other alternative.
He still hadn't recovered mentally after what had happened five years ago and, according to his psychiatrist, he wasn't ready to attend a normal school until he gained more confidence.
He did not want to force him to listen to unpleasant comments, however, he felt uncomfortable himself.
The centre was huge, classes were taught in different groups of matched children, however, there were times when Daeron encountered kids with a spectrum of disabilities other than physical and was simply afraid of them.
He tried to explain it to him, but how was a child supposed to understand these complicated, sometimes even uncontrollable behaviours and screams?
He swallowed hard, leaning the back of his head against the backrest, turning on the right indicator with his hand, driving into the car park of the building where he would leave him for the time he spent at work, during which he studied and had various extra classes with children with problems similar to his.
However, was he to surround himself all his life only with children who had mobility problems, who had no arms or legs, who suffered from paresis or lack of feeling in their limbs?
Every time he thought about it he wanted to cry.
He turned off the engine, staring dully ahead, hearing his mother's screams again in the background of his mind as his father fainted behind the wheel and drove off the road into the other lane – he felt once again that hard crash with the big truck coming from the opposite direction that crushed them.
They were only alive because they were in the back seats at the time, Daeron, however, was not as lucky as he was.
Compared to what happened to his younger brother, the glass that smashed into the left side of his face was nothing.
"Mrs Thomson said you can't spend all day at home doing one-to-one tuition. You have to see other children." He calmly repeated the formula he said whenever such a situation arose, opening his door, heading for the boot of his big black SUV – the car dealership had told him it was the safest and biggest model they had.
He took out the small wheelchair that had been put together and unfolded it, driving it closer, to the back seat where his brother sat, opening it – he looked away, unable to watch his brother's weeping face.
"I'm already late for work. Please. I promise we'll play FIFA' 23 together when we get back. Hm?" He muttered, and Daeron nodded, pale, breathing loudly, using his hands to move slowly towards the wheelchair onto which he shifted the weight of his body, hissing loudly as he lifted his legs onto the special supports.
The bones of his little legs had been simply crushed then – he continued to grow, the rehabilitation was hard and caused him great pain.
He would have preferred it to be him who suffered like this and not an innocent child, but God, who he wasn't sure he still believed in despite the deep faith his mother had always instilled in him, decided otherwise.
He closed the car and moved with him to the main entrance, pushing his wheelchair forward. When they got inside they were greeted by a lady they knew very well, several of his friends waved to Daeron, one of them was paralysed from the waist down, the other was missing one arm.
He swallowed loudly, thinking that his brother had to watch someone else's misfortune every day, himself for sure feeling like a cripple, like someone defective, someone who was a burden, even though he loved him the most in the world.
The cruelty of the situation left him with a clenched throat, so he would usually only throw him a few words to say goodbye, stroke his head and leave, only by the car tightening his fingers on the base of his nose, his healthy eye burning from the moisture that gathered under his eyelids.
As he always did in moments of breakdown, he started the engine, selected the number of his sister phone on the display under his dashboard and, turning on loudspeaker mode, started backing his car as he tried to drive out of the car park and drove ahead towards the national prosecutor's office.
"Hello? Aemond, did something happen?"
He heard Helaena's soft, sleepy voice. He knew she was still doing overtime as a doctor, overworking herself as much as he was and thought that he had woken her up after the night shift.
He felt remorse for not being able to handle it himself, although she always reassured him that she would always help him as best she could.
She got Daeron the best possible physiotherapist so that he was even able to take a few steps in the last month while holding on to his supports, however it still caused him great pain, the doctors said his bones would continue to hurt as long as he grew.
Perpetual undeserved suffering.
"I don't know what to do anymore. He says he is afraid of some of the children, those with intellectual disabilities. I know it's cruel, but fuck, I'd be scared of some of them too. Do they have to see each other in the same building, pass each other in the corridor? Shouldn't they be separated somehow?"
"God, Aemond, they're not animals. After all, they're children too." She said with sadness and resentment – he clenched his eye, sighing impatiently, trying to focus on the road again, tense.
"I know. I know. I really feel for them, but it's bad for his psyche. He recently asked me if he was normal, if he too would start shouting and babbling like them. That sometimes they are aggressive and the carers have to drag them away from him and his friends."
"It's horrible. Maybe he really should go there less often?" She asked sighing quietly, he heard her rise up on the bed with a quiet creak of the mattress.
"And what, he's going to sit at home with some boring old teacher? How will I know that no harm comes to him in my absence?" He asked resignedly, hearing silence on the other side for some time.
"Maybe find someone who won't be very distant in age. Someone who won't just teach him, but play with him and spend time with him. Someone old enough to be responsible for him and at the same time young enough not to feel so distant. Someone joyful." She replied, and he rolled his eyes as he drove into the underground car park of his office building.
"Joyful? I am supposed to pay someone to be joyful?" He sneered, shaking his head, his sister sighed again.
"He needs it, Aemond. We're all tired, and he's a child."
He hung up after a few minutes of further discussion, telling her he had to go, grabbed the case folders he'd just brought in and headed for the underground lift. He pressed the button showing the floor he wanted to move to when a woman's hand stopped the sliding doors, which opened a moment later.
Alys smiled broadly at him as she stepped inside with a confident stride – her high black heels emphasised how slender and long her legs were, her fitted, waist high pencil trousers and black blazer with a beautiful white shirt underneath highlighted both her confidence and her attractiveness.
He remembered the last few times the thrusts of his hips had pushed her into her desk, bent over and helpless, with firm, wide buttocks on which he tightened his fingers as he panted heavily, watching what he was doing to her, rooting into her again and again, thinking with mockery and amusement how easy it was to make a mere whore out of such a proud woman.
"Good morning, Mr Prosecutor." She said softly, contentment and calmness on her face, several of their intense close-ups had clearly left an intense mark in her, not just physical.
She liked the violent and determined ones, he knew that – she hid her age well and apparently decided that this was the last moment in her life when she could reach for what she wanted.
"Good morning, Miss Rivers." He replied calmly, uninterested in her ambiguous look, apparently suggesting that she wouldn't mind if what happened between them was repeated a few more times.
He was all about the sex. He was frustrated in this aspect – his artificial eye, although perfectly colour-matched to the other and the still clearly visible scar from where the glass pierced in, were a source of his complexes and shame.
He knew that no matter how perfect a professional he was, it was his appearance that made the first impression.
He preferred them to fear him rather than pity him.
In the courtroom he still struggled to be taken seriously so much so that his cold, calculating, ruthless nature began to frighten some – his judgement and questioning was harsh and lacking in compassion.
He knew exactly what he wanted and strove to get it.
His superiors quickly appreciated how skilful a lawyer he was and his ability to bring cases to an end and push whoever he needed to, hence he quickly moved to the National Prosecutor's Office, where more responsibilities and more money awaited him, which he could spend on Daeron's rehabilitation.
As he sat over the files he thought hard about what his sister had told him and decided that he would install CCTV in the house and then hire someone on a trial basis to see if it made sense.
He put up an anonymous job ad not wanting anyone to recognise him, described briefly his broad expectations and his rate per hour.
It turned out that dozens of people responded to his ad, just as he suspected attracted by the sum he had quoted, but he didn't know how he was supposed to sort them to choose the ones that seemed best to him. He began to read their answers, figuring that already from them he could deduce what types of personalities they were.
I am interested. My phone number is below.
Reject, he thought, clicking the red button informing the message sender that his offer was not accepted, and began to scroll further.
I am a carer with 10 years of experience. I have already cared for 14-year-old Mike with cerebral palsy, Adam with….
Reject, he clicked again.
He had no intention of making his home a second centre for the disabled.
He felt frustration and rage when he found that most of the messages were similar and just as empty in their tone, nothing convinced him about these people.
He knew Daeron wouldn't want to stay with them, and neither would he.
He stopped at one of the messages that looked completely different and blinked.
Good morning! I saw your ad and thought I would speak up. I'm a student, I'm studying costume design at the Faculty of Fine Arts. I'm looking for a casual job and I really enjoy working with children, I teach dressmaking as part of the teaching section of my university classes. I think that helping your brother with his studies at primary school level would be no problem for me at all, and I would also be happy to come up with different extra-curricular activities with him. Even if you decide not to hire me, I would like to sew your brother a costume of his favourite super hero, without any payment of course. You would just have to give me his measurements. I don't think anything makes kids his age happier!!! My warmest regards and I am sending my email below.
He looked at her message not too sure how he felt, at the same time being impressed, on the other hand feeling the seed of uncertainty and extreme caution characteristic of him when it came to his approach to newly met people.
What if this was a psychological tactic to make him believe her to be innocent and unselfish? To make him subconsciously choose her because she was the only one offering him something for free? If it was just her free promotion?
He chose two people reluctantly, but kept coming back to her message, trying to imagine her, seeing some crazy painting student looking like a hippie.
Maybe this was just what he needed? He thought with regret and sighed heavily, opening a new window in his inbox, writing her a short, brief email to appear at their house in a few days' time.
He was going to interrogate her.
The young man before her immediately made him uneasy – he had the impression that he smelled weed from him even though he had taken a shower, so he must have been smoking like crazy, and he had no intention of letting anyone who might encourage him to use any stimulants look after his brother.
The other girl was very frightened – his questions clearly startled her and made her uncomfortable, it frustrated him that she was barely able to make a sound. He thought she had something to hide, that people who have a clear conscience don't behave this way.
He thought with resignation that all he had left was a mad artist.
He sighed heavily as he heard the bell ring suggesting that someone was standing outside the gate. He walked over to the intercom and opened it, seeing in the small monitor a petite girl with dark, slightly wavy hair tied up in a ponytail.
He thought in disbelief that she was dressed for a job interview in a white turtleneck, dungarees and trainers, a fabric floral back on her back.
What the fuck, he thought, opening her door with a cold, indifferent expression on his face.
"Good afternoon." She said softly, a wide smile on her face. Before she walked in she wiped her shoes on the doormat, which pleased him. When she came inside she wanted to take off her trainers – he looked at her surprised, thinking she must be crazy.
"No, you don't have to. You can stay in your shoes." He said lowly, pointing towards the armchair, indicating to her with his hand the seat on the couch next to him.
She sat down in the seat he showed her, looking boldly straight into his eyes, her cheeks rosy with emotion.
She was clearly a tad nervous after all, he thought, musing for a moment that she had incredibly long, dark eyelashes.
"Do you have experience in working with children?" He asked immediately; she blinked and corrected herself in her seat, as if prepared for the question.
"Only in terms of working with them in sewing workshops." She answered simply, without any further explanation, which pleased him.
She was letting him draw his own conclusions, rather than imposing them on him so as to present herself in the most favourable light.
"My brother has mobility problems. How do you imagine helping him, for example, if he needs to go to the bathroom?"
"I think he's old enough that he can tell me himself what he'll need help with and what he won't, and what he'll feel comfortable for me to help him with and when he'll want me to leave." She said without thinking, shrugging her shoulders as if it was obvious. He squinted, intrigued that she was allowing herself to say unthoughtful things in front of him, as if she wasn't afraid of the consequences they might bring.
"And your studies? How will you have so much time to come here?"
"From what I understand, I would be expected to turn up on Tuesdays and Thursdays from eight in the morning until sixteen. I have practice classes then, the costumes I'm sewing I can bring with me and finish them while he's eating or watching something, maybe he'll even like it and want to practice with me?"
"What will you do if I don't hire you?" He asked dryly and she looked at him surprised, a light smile on her face indicating that his words didn't worry her.
"Then I will continue to work in the café. But my words about the superhero costume stand. Even if I can't work for you, sir, I would like to meet him and give him something. Children can be so brave." She said softly with sincere, bright joy and some kind of pride, as if Daeron was her brother and not his, something in her innocence, something in her attitude endeared him.
He could smell a lie a mile away, she wouldn't be able to pretend so well even if she were an actress.
These reactions were natural, she was saying exactly what she was thinking about.
"I will contact you once I have made my decision." He said indifferently, getting up from his seat and pointing with his hand towards the exit, suggesting that their conversation was over.
She stood up and smiled, undaunted by his behaviour or the length of their conversation. Both of them flinched when Daeron appeared in the living room, pushing the wheels of his wheelchair with a light flick of his hand.
"Good afternoon. Who is this lady?" His younger brother asked him, obvious curiosity on his face. He swallowed loudly and glanced at her – she answered nothing but waved at him vigorously, Daeron smiled shyly and waved her back, embarrassed.
"No one. I needed to talk to her." He replied, opening the door for her. She said a polite goodbye to him and his brother, waving at him once more, Daeron waved her back again, looking at him with questioning eyes as he closed it.
"I like her. She seems fun."
With no other choice, he decided he would give her a chance.
The first day she was to be left alone with Daeron he was all nerves despite the fact that his little brother hadn't seemed this excited to him in many years. He told him about his toys and the cartoons he was going to show her.
"First the lessons. Then two hours to play and free time." He replied dryly, tense, glancing at his watch, thinking with rage that she only had fifteen minutes left, that she was sure to be late or not come and leave him in the lurch when he had already cancelled his presence at the centre's classes.
They both flinched when they heard the bell ring; Daeron said, moving briskly forward in his wheelchair that he wanted to open for her and indeed, after a moment the girl he had hired appeared on the doorstep of their house, smiling and content – her cheeks flushed again, her dark hair loose, pleasantly framing her bright face, on her body only a black top and tracksuit shorts as it was a sunny, warm spring morning.
"Good morning, Daeron, nice to meet you!" She said with fondness and satisfaction in her voice, extending her hand in front of her, which his brother shook confidently. Daeron moved ahead of her, glancing over his shoulder at her.
"Come, I'll show you my room. I'll explain everything to you." He said, rolling his wheelchair up to the door, which was located on the ground floor of their house so that he could move around easily. The girl nodded, pulling her trainers off her feet, saying that she will come to him in a minute.
He took the opportunity to walk up to her, towering over her, and she threw him a quick surprised look.
He thought her eyes seemed even bigger than before, he wasn't sure if they were blue or green, both colours blending into one.
"You are to take care of him. I want you to go through all the material that was prepared for today. Only two hours of free time, no more. Behave responsibly and only call if it's really urgent or if something happens to him." He said matter-of-factly, and she swallowed quietly, nodding quickly, clearly horrified by how close he stood and how cold his voice was.
Good, he thought.
He wanted her to be afraid of the consequences of her actions.
He sat in the office all day terrified, stressed and unsure, trying to focus on the file in front of him, while involuntarily still glancing at his phone, checking to see if she might have called him.
Was everything okay? What if something had happened but she was afraid to call him? Maybe he should go home and test her, see what was going on?
He thought he would go mad if he didn't, so he left work an hour early – Alys threw something at him as he walked past her, probably something about a meeting or an evening out together, but he didn't answer her, heading for the stairs and the underground car park.
He drove forward, trying to calm himself down, thinking about how oversensitive he was, that surely everything was fine.
He pulled up in front of their house hearing music in the distance, wondering if any of the neighbours were having a party outside at this hour.
However, as he pressed the key to the gate and it slowly swung open he saw in disbelief the girl he had hired riding with lightness and grace on roller skates in his driveway to the tune of the Scissor Sisters song Don't Feel Like Dancin. Daeron laughed out loud, spinning beside her in his wheelchair, both of them wearing elbow and knee pads, in addition to his little brother wearing a bike helmet on his head.
What the fuck was that supposed to be?
He got out of the car, furiously slamming the door, his brother wheeled up to him briskly, his companion spinning slowly around them on roller skates – she raised her eyebrows with a smile, seeing the look on his face and waved at him.
"Look how well I dance, brother!" Exclaimed Daeron, spinning the wheels of his wheelchair around his own axis again.
He, however, instead of looking at him grabbed aggressively the arm of his carer who was doing another spin – she nearly fell over because of his tug and caught him abruptly by his jacket in an attempt to catch her balance.
"Ah!"
"What the fuck are you doing? Is this what I pay you for?" He growled and shook her hard. She stared at him with wide-open eyes, her lips slightly parted in accelerated breathing from fear, her face red from exertion, strands of her hair stuck to her cheeks.
"Let me go, sir. I will not speak to you like this." She said warningly, her brow furrowed. He pressed his lips together noticing that something had changed in her gaze, suddenly confident and angry, ready to fight if necessary.
He felt that look in his trousers, he'd never had the urge to slap a woman's ass as hard as hers before.
He glanced at his brother, who was looking at him in horror, only realising after a moment that the song had long since ended and there was a tense, awkward silence around them.
He let go of her arm, seeing with satisfaction that he had left a bruise on her skin in the shape of his fingers – she massaged at the spot, furrowing her brow.
"You're fired. You're irresponsible. Good thing I came back earlier." He said with mockery and fury, walking over to his brother, unbuckling the helmet he wore on his head. Daeron burst into a loud, uncontrollable sob.
"I don't want to. I don't want to, I don't want to go back there, I want to stay with her. It's my fault, I told her I wanted to dance, please, please, please, I want her to stay, I don't want to go back there." He babbled, running his hands over his shoulders in some helpless, childish pleading gesture from which he felt a squeeze in his throat. He glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, her gaze fixed on his little brother, sad and resigned – she was leaning over, untying the laces of the roller skates that had once belonged to his sister.
"Something could have happened to you. You could have fallen over and hit your head on the ground." He replied coldly, kneeling in front of him, unbuckling his knee pads.
"But I had a helmet on my head. After all, normal boys fall off bikes and stairs and they're fine! Nothing would have happened if I'd bruised myself a bit, I'm not made of glass!" He burst out suddenly with a fury he had never seen in him before, burying his little face in his hands, all red from tears and despair.
"I won't go back there, I won't go there tomorrow, if she doesn't stay, never, never again, I'd rather kill myself!" He whined out loud, falling into another attack of hysteria in recent months – he had trouble catching his breath, his lungs were wheezing all over. He took his face in his hands, but he closed his eyes, not wanting to look at him.
God, why?
"Remember what I told you?" She asked walking up to his brother in just her socks, kneeling beside him, grasping his hand. Daeron immediately fell silent, looking at her with wide eyes.
"That boy who calls you Quasimodo is just mean. You are my Phoebus, you have his beautiful hair, humour and valour. I'll sew us costumes and we'll go to the carnival ball together. His jaw will drop when he sees that you came with your Esmeralda. What do you say?" She asked softly, and he looked at her in disbelief, wondering if that was the reason his little brother didn't want to go there.
That boy who calls you Quasimodo.
He felt a twitch in his throat and swallowed loudly, his brother nodding quickly, drawing in air loudly, his eyes full of hope.
"Promise?" He asked in a trembling voice, and she smiled broadly, sincerely, squeezing his small hand.
"Promise."
They entered their house as his brother calmed down; he told Daeron to go to his room and leave them alone, which his brother eventually did with great reluctance, crying for a while longer, not wanting to say goodbye to her.
As soon as he heard the door close behind him at the end of the corridor he slipped his wallet out of the back pocket of his trousers, took out a few banknotes and threw them on the table in front of her in a careless gesture.
"Get the fuck out of my house." He said coldly, looking her straight in the eye. He saw her lower lip twitch, the pain of humiliation in her gaze, her eyebrows arched in disbelief that such words had left his mouth.
He wasn't paying her to make a circus of herself dancing like some fucking Esmeralda, exposing his brother to danger and injury.
He pressed his lips into a thin line and trembled with rage as she took the money and tossed it in his direction, the banknotes flying scattered around his feet.
"You could dress up as Frollo for the carnival ball, sir. It would suit you." She said drily, turning away tensely – he moved behind her, feeling anger buzzing strongly in his veins at her words.
He grabbed her by the neck with an aggressive flick of his hand and slammed her back against the wall, her voice stuck in her throat in horror, her big, bright eyes open wide in disbelief.
He took a step closer to her, feeling her warm body quiver all over in his grasp, digging his fingertips deeper into her skin, finding with delight that she was obscenely soft.
"Do you have anything else to say?" He asked in a low whisper filled with threat – she shook her head quickly clearly feeling the situation was out of her control, obviously fearing if he was really going to do something to her.
"No, are you sure? I'm listening to you. Tell me something else interesting about me." He said softly, encouragingly, moving even closer to her, the tips of their noses almost touching.
He could finally get a good look at her and he found curiously that he still couldn't tell what colour her eyes were, now slightly reddened from tears of fear.
She shook her head quickly, not making a sound; all he could hear was their quickened, raspy breaths, her hand touched his wrist as if she wanted to make sure he didn't strangle her.
He was somehow delighted by how delicate, long and slender her fingers were, feeling a pleasant pulsing in his trousers at the thought.
"Look at you. So silly. Because you're a silly little girl, aren't you? You would benefit from someone teaching you a lesson. No? Then apologise and I'll let you go and pretend I never met you." He said calmly, her whole body quivering with terror.
"Never." She said quietly, and he felt involuntarily that his lips curved in a dangerous, satisfied grin, his fingers clenching tighter around her neck.
"You're asking for trouble, Esmeralda." He muttered lowly, her nostrils twitching in accelerated breath.
"I will report what you are doing to the police." She said dryly and he smiled even wider, feeling her tremble all over as he leaned over her ear, his nose sinking into her soft, flower-scented hair – he closed his eyes and savoured the experience for a moment before whispering something she froze from.
"I am a prosecutor −"
Her hand clenched tighter on his wrist, a moan of despair escaping her lips, as if what he had said had really shocked her, as if she was only now realising what she had gotten herself into.
"− and I've never lost a case yet." He whispered in her ear, sliding his face lower, to her jaw and then to her neck, pressing his full lips to her skin, leaving wet, hot marks on it. He heard her draw in a loud breath.
"− w-what are you doing, sir? − no −" She whimpered, he felt her lift her arms up in a defensive gesture, trying to pull away from him, but he pressed her against the wall with his body, letting go of her neck, his erection throbbing hard in his trousers, pressing again and again against her stomach.
She felt it, a terrified cry escaped her lips as his lips pressed tightly against her neck – he began to suck painfully hard on her skin, wanting to leave her a crimson reminder of himself.
"− how did you put it? − who do I remind you of? −" He asked tauntingly, running his rough tongue over her red skin, feeling the veins pulsing rapidly under her soft, warm skin.
"− I'm sorry − I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry − please, please let me go −" She mumbled out in despair on the verge of crying, her voice trembling all over in terror, her breathing raspy and uneven, her small hands clenched on the material of his black turtleneck that he wore under his jacket.
He gasped at her words, sliding his mouth lower, repeating the same process, rubbing against her with his hips – his cock was all swollen and hard, pulsing with pleasure, his hands roaming down her back, sliding at last to her buttocks where they clenched.
"− look at you − so you can be polite after all, hm? −" He asked softly, lowering the material of her tracksuit shorts a little, his large hand grasping her plump, firm buttocks and slapping it hard – she clamped her lips together, trying to hold back the whimper that squeezed its way down her throat.
"− that's what I thought − turn around and let's get this over with −" He murmured, soothingly massaging the place that was now pulsing from his slap, grinning as she did so wordlessly, tears of helplessness and fear on her cheeks.
"− please −" She muttered and he sighed softly, sliding the material of her shorts and underwear down, revealing what was underneath – she shuddered and wept quietly as the tips of his fingers ran over her swollen folds, focusing their pressure on her sweet spot hidden between them, digging into her fleshy skin in circular, calm motions.
"− shhh − this way it will be easier for both of us −" He explained in a soft tone of voice, as if he was telling her something obvious, as if it would benefit her in the future and teach her something.
He heard her shy moan full of fear, then another, a tad louder as his fingers sank more firmly into her skin. He licked his lips at the sight of the wetness that began to leak slowly from inside her and slapped his hand with a short, rough movement into the space between her thighs.
"− quiet −" He ordered, and she pressed her lips together, stifling whatever wanted to come out of them. Daeron was far away, locked in his room, but he still preferred him not to hear anything, and he didn't have the time or desire to take her upstairs to his bedroom.
This situation, her bent figure and her lovely buttocks pushed up towards him, suited him completely.
"− good girl − see? − it's not that hard −" He murmured pleased with how obedient she was despite the fear and terror from which her whole body was twitching. The confident movements of his fingers were accompanied by the louder and louder click of her moisture, her cheek pressed against the cold wall where her hands were helplessly trying to find support in this position, her eyes closed as if she just wanted to wait it out.
She opened them when she heard the sound of his zipper being opened – her lips pressed together with difficulty as he guided the fat, swollen head of his throbbing cock against her opening, leaning with his free hand against the wall just above her head, trying to force it between her tight folds with the motion of his hips.
"− wider − that's it, there you go −" He exhaled as she opened her thighs a little more and he spread her wide on his cock, feeling her muscles gave him a wonderful squeeze – he sighed loudly, surprised at how pleasurable the sensation was.
"− fuck −" He hissed out, clamping his hands on her buttocks, spreading them like a ripe fruit; she squirmed in discomfort as he forced her to take him deeper inside her, filling her so much that he felt like he was going to rip her skin apart.
"− barely fits −" He scoffed, moving his hips back and forth with a splat of her moisture dripping down her thighs – he heard her begin to pant along with him as he deliberately rubbed against her lower wall just above her very entrance, teasing the spot inside her from which her whole body was quivering.
"− here? − do you want me to fuck you here, little one? −" He gasped as he stretched her skin enough to fit all of him inside her, rooting into her again and again with increasingly brutal thrusts of his hips, digging his fingertips into her buttocks, looking at the spot where their bodies joined, at her muscles clenching against him greedily in panic, sucking him inside.
"− please −" She cried out, squeezing her eyes shut, her lips parted in disbelief at how pleasurable and terrifying the experience was. He sank his hand into her soft, dark hair and tilted her head back, burying his nose in the hot skin of her cheek, speeding up, stretching her weeping folds with a loud, lewd slaps of his thighs against her buttocks.
"− use full sentences −" He commanded, his other hand from her hip slid down between her thighs – she squirmed helplessly as his fingers sank again into her fleshy skin, sticky from her moisture, teasing her clit with circular, slow motions.
"− here − fuck me here, sir −" She mumbled with difficulty in a voice trembling with exertion, her cheeks all red, the beautiful curls of her dark hair clinging to her sweaty face – he felt with satisfaction that her hips began to respond to his eager thrusts.
"− good girl − that's my good girl −" He breathed out with a quiet groan of pleasure, seeing and feeling her walls squeeze his fat cock at his praise – he licked his lips thinking that Alys had never responded to him the way she did, so frightened and aroused at the same time, relying only on his mercy, his goodwill.
"− you understand that this is necessary, don't you? − that you need to be taught a lesson −" He muttered, feeling that he was losing his temper, thrusting into her so fast that he was barely slipping out of her, slamming into her again and again, his cock throbbing with desire, signalling to him that his peak was coming, her wonderful scent filling his lungs.
"− y-yes − yes, I'm sorry −" She mumbled out –he wasn't sure if she was saying what he wanted to hear or if she really believed it herself for a second, but she clamped her eyelids shut and spread her mouth wide, helpless, girlish, sweet moan of relief burst from her throat as she came, sucking and squeezing his cock, soaking it in her moisture. He sighed in relief when, after a few desperate, deep slaps he spilled inside her, feeling the wave of hot pleasure shake his body.
"− fuck − oh, God, little one −" He muttered, their bodies involuntarily moving for a moment longer, wanting to prolong this surprisingly shocking experience, both of them panting embarrassingly loudly, her body trembling all over – if his arm hadn't been holding her around the waist she would have fallen for sure, her legs completely numb.
He looked down at their joined bodies, his half-hard, throbbing manhood sinking into her again and again, all sticky from his semen and her wetness.
He swallowed loudly, sliding out of her slowly, realising now what he had actually done to her – he heard her quiet hiss of discomfort and sigh of relief, her face flushed from exertion and tears.
"− are you all right? −" He asked in a trembling voice, quickly zipping up his trousers, her shaking hands slipping her underwear and shorts back onto her buttocks.
"− y-yes −" She mumbled in embarrassment, horror and disbelief, not looking at him, in some automatic gesture reaching for her trainers, putting them quickly on her feet.
"Come back on Thursday as we agreed before." He muttered, feeling the rapid pounding of his heart and the panic rising inside him, a complete void in his mind.
What had he done?
"I can assure you that you will never see me again." She whispered in a trembling, broken voice, quickly put her backpack on her back and walked out, slamming the door, leaving him with complete silence, remorse and horror.
He pressed his forehead against the wall, hiding his face in his hands, and burst into tears like a small child.
How could he treat a strange, innocent girl like this?
What if she didn't take her pills, what if she got pregnant?
How could he have been so irresponsible?
What if she really does report it to the police?
I'll destroy her, he thought with a bitter certainty that, after a moment, turned again into terror, regret and shame.
He grabbed his phone quickly and dialled her number, wanting to beg her forgiveness, but she didn't answer. He sat down on the couch and drew in the air loudly, devastated, not recognising himself, realising what kind of man he was.
He laughed desperately, shaking his head, thinking with painful amusement how well she had judged him.
He didn't even have to pretend.
He was like Frollo.

Author's note: Many of you may believe that Quasimodo is the best and most worthy of imitation character, not Phoebus, and this is true when it comes to the book, but I assume that if anything, Daeron at this age has only seen a Disney fairy tale, in which Phoebus is a handsome man with a noble heart. The whole idea of this scene, in which the heroine says that he will be her Phoebus and she will be his Esmeralda, is that Daeron wants to see himself not only as a person with a disability, but as someone handsome, a warrior that a woman could love one day. It's easy to understand how children's minds work and why his works this way, and his "Esmeralda" only wants to help him become the person he wants to be and encourages him not to give up on these dreams and this self-image.

Ricky Starks
Omg does he have a field day with you
But y’all aren’t exactly friends but frenemies
Like on some mean girls type shit
Cause you are the exact same; slick, fabulous, luxurious, and funny
Sometimes you be stumping him with your comebacks
Ricky: At this point, I’ll join the circus
You: You don't have enough talent to join the circus…but then again you are a clown
Cue yall weakly slapping each other
Loves to bicker with you
Hates when other people are bickering with you; will jump to your defense
Eventually, you become the Gunther and Tinka (from shake it up) of AEW
You two frequently share Pinterest boards and give fashion advice to each other
At this point, you two are either color-coordinating or complete opposites in outfits
Will text you and see you as the only person who understands him (in front of Taz, Hook, Big Bill)
Yall go on friendly dates and love to gossip
Ricky: And they were roommates
You: Not the roommates
Ricky: Right?!
Nick Wayne
You’re a sibling to him
Personality wise: you are both shy golden retrievers
THAT IS THE BEST WAY I CAN DESCRIBE NICK
I think yall got along because no one else was around your age that thought the way yall do
Nick was shy about meeting others until he got introduced to you
Now you talk all the time
Loves exploring new parts of arenas or working Christian’s nerves
I can just see him being annoyed at the point that there are two Nicks
I also see Nick’s energy being on low until you come around
THEN HE’S BOUNCING OFF THE WALLS
Hates when people pick on you, and he goes to your rescue
Now both of you are pouting in a corner cause yall got your feelings hurt (think of Tamaki from ouran high school host club)
I also think that you would be his personal journal (he’ll tell you everything)
He feels comfortable telling you stuff because he knows you’re gonna keep it
Or you’ll just forget about it and you have to pretend you know what he’s talking about
Darius Martin
YALL ARE SO CUTE
He calls you his reflection
Cause he said looking at you is like looking at a mirror
Yall are the most unproblematic duo ever
Have yall seen fights where people in the background are in their own little world?
Yeah…that’s yall
You two are so unbothered by the drama around you
I feel like he would see you like as a sibling so everything he tells Dante, he tells you
You are on speed dial; he calls you now more than he calls his brother
Secretly Dante’s jealous of the relationship between you and Darius
Asks you to do the simplest of tasks like braid his hair or record his training sessions
I also feel like so many people would think yall are dating the way he treats you
He always holds the door, pulls out your chair, keeps on the inside of the sidewalk, will hold your hand if you want as you two walk
To him, it’s not romantic (it is to me damnit), it’s just him being a gentleman and doing the bare minimum (AS A MAN SHOULD)
Because of him, you raise your standards for men
But it doesn’t feel right without him next to you
Hook
Mans secretly in love with you
I think he would think your personality is refreshing cause he doesn’t see it often in women
At first he thought it was a gimmick or you’re trying to get him to like you
But nope, this is you 100%
Many people think it would be boring between you two
Nope…just comfortable silence
Tbh yall are the real unbothered duo; truly not giving a fuck about anything around yall
Can tell your thoughts just by looking at you
Over time, I think he sees you as a bestie OR SO HE THINKS
Allows you to handle your own business cause he knows you can handle yourself
Is always surprised by how well you know him
He’s just not used to anyone really remembering small details about him
He made sure that you were a part of the Lads now
The group welcomed you with open arms
I think he forgets that you’re in the room sometimes with how silent you are
OOO idea: he teaches you Italian so you two can talk in private in public
He also buys you the same hoodies and sweatpants that he wears…cause yall already take each other’s anyways
Action Andretti
Yall are the Himbo/Bimbo combo (non-derogatory)
You share the same braincell
Respectfully of course
Like yall look so cute and cool okay? You guys are sweethearts
BUT JESUS SOMETIMES-
You two are truly in your own world
(respectfully again, don’t take it seriously billy)
Yall are not unbothered but just oblivious to the drama around you two
He pulls out the best jokes for you just to hear you laugh
Yall just get hyper together a lot
I wanna say you two together are very innocent and happy-go-lucky
But it is very balanced between the two of you
Everyone who sees you, can’t help but think that you two are adorable
Listen I think in terms of feelings developing, Andretti is too caught up in trying to make sure that you two are having a great friendship to see if anything can develop
If anything, he’s just happy to have you by his side and he doesn’t want anything to ruin it
Dante Martin
Yall have bff necklaces
Or bracelets
whatever you prefer
Very playful relationship yall have indeed
Dante will tell you everything but not his brother
Dante has see you every day, if not, it’s an off day for him
You two will say the same things at the same time like twins or some shit
I think it’s very surface-level thinking with your friendship
He really does appreciate you and he doesn’t really see you as anything more
If anything, he sees you as a little sister that he is molding to be more like him
Drags you everywhere
Super protective over you
Hates to exclude you
Like with Hook, He made you a part of the Lads
I feel like Dante takes you very seriously in terms of yall’s friendship
There’s never a dull moment with him
Eddie Kingston (one day I really want to do a character/in-depth analysis on him)
Compared to the other men on this list
Eddie would think about you subconsciously and really does see you as another version of himself
And it bothers him to a certain extent
because your attitude, actions, and even the way you talk is just like him
Right down to the stubbornness
Will try to tell you certain things to calm you down or anything but really it’s what he wants to hear himself
I also think he finally gets what everyone sees in him cause he can see it in you (underdog vibes)
He can’t tell if he loves you as a BFF or more
Cause he never really met a woman who has the same strong yet realistic mindset as him
And it makes him feel butterflies
But he really loves your hustle and how quick-witted you are
He also loves how true you are to yourself and how you won’t change for people
Knowing Eddie he rather keep your friendship than lose you entirely
Even though he’s very close to Ortiz, Santana, Mox, and Ruby
You are #1 to him

The New Cue #357 February 12:
Everything Everything's Jonathan Higgs
"We were weirdos then and we’re weirdos now"
At the beginning of next month, Everything Everything release their seventh record Mountainhead. It’s another brilliant album from one of the UK’s most imaginative and forward-thinking guitar bands, a quartet who never tread water and have been consistently honing, reworking and outdoing what’s gone before for over 15 years, always coming up with a new version of themselves without ever losing what makes them special. The pillars of their music tend to be a mix of danceable synth-y grooves and inventive art-rock, intricate arrangements constructed around big pop hooks and surrealist lyrics, frontman Jonathan Higgs’ vocal delivery emotive and exuberant at the same time.
Higgs is at the centre of it all, a creative dynamo who seems to sum up their idiosyncratic approach and who has the ability to inject emotion into the bizarrest lyrics, lines such as:
“And no reptiles! Just soft boiled eggs in shirts and ties, Waiting for the flashing green man Quivering and wobbling just like all the eggs you know”
That one is taken from Get To Heaven’s epic standout No Reptiles.
Or this, which somehow sounds poignant when Higgs sings it on the electro-pop banger Arch Enemy:
“Fatberg you smile, with your grave wax eyes, will you consume me?”
Or how about this oddball corker, from the euphoric electronica of Raw Data Feel closer Software Greatman?
“Maybe I see Klingons on the starboard bow Maybe, I’m a cat inside a sacred cow
Higgs is at it again with this zinger from their excellent recent single Cold Reactor: “I sent you the image of a yellow face To tell you I’m sad about the emptiness that’s all around me”
That song, released in autumn last year as the first single from Mountainhead, has become Everything Everything’s biggest radio hit yet. It’s spent weeks on the Radio 1 B-list, a very uncommon position for an indie band whose members are all in their late 30s, but its success that sums up the vibrancy and relevance of Everything Everything in 2024. Even better, it probably meant Radio 1 have had to get their heads around this blurb from Higgs on what the new record Mountainhead is about:
“In another world, society has built an immense mountain. To make the mountain bigger, they must make the hole they live in deeper and deeper. All of society is built around the creation of the mountain, and a mountain religion dominates all thought. At the top of the mountain is rumoured to be a huge mirror that reflects endlessly recurring images of the self, and at the bottom of the pit is a giant golden snake that is the primal fear of all believers. A ‘Mountainhead’ is one who believes the mountain must grow no matter the cost, and no matter how terrible it is to dwell in the great pit. The taller the mountain, the deeper the hole.”
Well, you don’t get that with Catfish And The Bottlemen. A few weeks ago Niall – that is me, I am The New Cue’s resident Everything Everything nut in case you hadn’t guessed – spoke to Jonathan over Zoom about the mad concept around the new record, the dynamics of being in a band in 2024, his favourite Liam Gallagher tweet and more. I’ve made this playlist of my favourite Everything Everything songs to listen whilst you read,
Hello Jonathan. I love the new record, it feels different to Raw Data Feel, a bit looser… Yeah, it’s got a lot more freedom and it sounds more like a band playing a lot of the time rather than the rigid, more computerised stuff that we were doing before. We made an effort to make it feel a bit more real and laid back.
Was there much overlap? No, partly because we put everything we made for Raw Data Feel on that record, we didn’t leave anything in the banks. We did the opposite with this, we actually went back and looked at some old demos and brought them back to life because we were looking for some kind of angle that we weren’t going to stumble across, we wanted to go back to our youngest selves and go, ‘What was that thing we were doing?’.
That’s interesting, how far back did you go? I think it’s sessions for A Fever Dream, or it might be Re-Animator, so five or six years ago. Some of the songs on this are from that time, or at least elements of them are or a little demo was made and then thrown away and then we went back and said ‘Let’s explore this and breathe new life into it.’
When you’re seven records in and you start to look back like that, does it feel like different versions of the band? Yeah, definitely. There’s definitely been eras, we’ve never got stuck in one way of doing things. There’s an evolution, for good or for ill, since our first songs to now. I can find myself very quickly thinking in those terms when I hear a song from then, I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, I was trying to do this’ and that stuff changes over time and I’m glad it does because otherwise, you just make the same record again and again and no-one wants that.
Yeah. Without naming any names, for some bands it ends up becoming a process of survival and maintenance. Yeah, thankfully, we’re not in that position. I know what you mean, this idea of being a nostalgia act does not appeal very much, partly because we were at our peak three albums in so we can go back and feast on Get To Heaven-era but I have no interest in going back to Man Alive and trying to recreate that partly because we were weirdos then and we’re weirdos now, it wasn’t the glory days by any means. I’m immensely proud of what we did back then but I’m not going to try and retread it. This is an odd thing to say having just said that I went back to some old demos and put them on our new record, but those demos were rejected for reasons that I find interesting now. And I don’t feel that we need to play the games we were playing them because we’re so good at writing successfully now, I think.
Something like Cold Reactor, I didn’t labour over it and I knew as soon as it was done, it was great and I knew that would that would carry us through. It allows you to feel a bit more relaxed about creativity rather than ‘Must get that radio single or we’re doomed!’, which obviously is the burning hot coal under our butts most of the time because it’s easy to take that stuff for granted, popular songs, but you’ve got to actually write them and they’ve got to actually be popular otherwise no-one cares. Basically, every album usually comes down to one, two or three songs and if none of them have any interest, then people just go, ‘Did an album even come out?’.
Cold Reactor is a good example of the band right now, it seems to sum up all that’s great about Everything Everything and it’s become this mad radio hit. I know! We’ve watched a lot of friends’ bands struggle in this period we’ve had, 15 years now. There is a tendency to rest on your laurels or try and repeat the thing and it’s very difficult to not do that. Sometimes, I’ve done it myself when I’ve sat down and written a song and then I get to the end of it, I go, ‘Well, we did that better with X song on Arc’ and it’s like, ‘I could do this and our fans will really like it because it sounds just like us, it sounds just like Arc’ and then we’re like ‘No, into the bin with you, let’s try and take that same sensation but do something new with it’. That often comes down to the production. I think if you were to strip all of our songs of their production, then you could probably find something I’ve written now very similar to something I’ve written.
There’s a simplicity to a lot of the songs on the new album, nothing is overloaded and it makes the more outlandish stuff more potent. That’s been a big thing to learn over our careers. You’ve got the ability to do outlandish stuff, and you’ve got these players who can play really well but that isn’t enough to just present all of those things at once and expect people to go, ‘Wow!’. Some of them will, and that’s how we made our name, the prog dads, as we used to call them, that came to our shows in the very early days and just stand there and go, ‘yes, this sounds like Yes!’, and that’s fine. But that I felt like it wasn’t really a challenge. It felt like being a music student still, trying to dazzle each other with complexity and emotion slowly rose through all that and they all just fell away. I was like, ‘No, that is the hardest thing to communicate’ and that’s the challenge. That’s what the greats do is, they get your emotions and you can’t manufacture that and you certainly can’t bamboozle that into people, you have to start with a strong, simple, true, or as close to true as you can manage, emotion and then you can start having fun with it. I think that’s the thing that took us the longest to learn.
Everything Everything’s work has grown more emotional with every record. You’ve got these big concepts around them but that disguises the fact they feel a bit more personal and vulnerable each time… I think that’s what happens to humans. Twenty-three-year-olds are a strange breed to look to for sustenance when it comes to art, there’s a rawness to being that age, it’s an age of discovery. And that stuff is very exciting but there’s no real reason why someone older would create like that or go to that well, it actually gets quite sad when people try to go to that well. Now I’m older and I’m more of an emotional person and I’m less about fireworks and more about volcanoes! I don’t know how to put it, there’s something much deeper now when I create than when I was a young punk.
On that note, rather than me crowbar into an incredibly long question, why don’t you sum up the concept of Mountainhead? It’s extremely simple, a one metaphor fits all type-deal. I knew I wanted to sing about capitalism but not put too fine a point on it. I mean, it’s not a very subtle metaphor. But I knew there were certain elements of it that I wanted to get across, namely the Sisyphean sort of feeling of it being pointless and also, the fact that there’s this trade-off between building the mountain but having to live in the dark, which was a big touchstone for me when I read Capitalist Realism by Mark Fisher, this sense that our lives are getting worse in some ways, that the more we progress we’re becoming more isolated and we’re shutting off large parts of our humanity in the search for this goal of ever expanding and growing our economy and trying to climb the ladder. It’s simple enough that you can’t really fault it, I’m not saying this is exactly how we live, there’s not enough to it for it to fail. It’s something everyone gets straight away.
A lot of the lyrics touch on that theme but which of the songs is the most personal to you that veer away from the concept? Probably The Witness, that’s definitely not really related to the concept. That’s pretty personal. There’s a line in there about this… I shot this bird with an air rifle when I was a kid. I walked into the shed and I saw it, this cute little chaffinch or whatever and it just sat there looking at me and then I picked up the air rifle, I knew where it was and I killed it.
You bastard! I know, I’m telling you this now cos I felt bad, I’m not saying it was a good thing! For some reason that came back to me. During the very early sessions on the album, we’d all gone away somewhere and when we got back, Alex went up to his studio at the top of his house and a pigeon had got into the room and thrashed and thrashed to get back out for four days, there’s like blood all over, feathers everywhere. I was like, ‘Guys, this is a sign… we’re gonna call it The Pigeon!’. Obviously we didn’t but birds do get into it - Canary obviously is a song there - and this thing about that bird and it flew into my head. That’s very personal. But then the rest of the song is about some fucked up stuff that happened to me in the pandemic that haven’t properly been able to talk about in these situations because it’s a bit too personal, basically. A lot of Raw Data Feel was about trying to deal with that as well. I should’ve called it Raw Data Deal. That’s the only moment I’ve given over to that thing on this newest album, the last song. I haven’t actually been able to listen back to it because it makes me too emotional when I think about what it’s really about. But that’s not for public consumption, it’s not needed.
Fair enough. Tell me about the dynamic between the four of you, because that seems like a really important point in your longevity. Apart from a very early line-up change, it’s been the four of you the whole way. Yeah, it’s great. We’ve settled into our roles over the last 15 years. Alex [Robertshaw, guitarist and keyboards] is very much the producer now and by way of that, he’s ended up writing a lot of the guitar and keyboard parts, which I would usually write more of in the past. I’ve become completely consumed by the emotion of getting the message across in the lyrics and stuff like that, as well as obviously writing songs. But in terms of how they sound, I’m less and less involved or concerned, that’s Alex’s playground more. Mike [Spearman, drummer] and Jez [Pritchard, bass] are very good at taste-making. Me and Alex do 98% of the composition and then those guys are much more like, ‘Well, I feel like this is a good way for us to go or this is better than this one,’ things you can’t really tell when you’re the creator and you think everything’s great. They’re also really good at the whole business side of the band, which is the less romantic end but incredibly important. So talking to accountants and they’re having meetings with the labels and Mike’s producing the videos, getting organised, all the stuff that me and Alex being “the creatives” are terrible at because we have the luxury of being terrible at them. Those guys fill in the gaps and they’re really, really good at that. Jez is really good at meeting people and all that kind of shit, so it works really well. You’ve got at least one person covering every possible angle. I’m doing a lot of the visual stuff now. I’m designing a lot of the visual side of the band, basically most things that we’re tweeting or videos is all being done by me. As a unit we could basically do this by ourselves... if someone gave us loads of money, which is how we operate.
My last question is a random one but it’s been on my mind. On Christmas Day, you dug up a four-year-old Liam Gallagher tweet where he called the producer Dave Sardy “Dave Sardine”, and I wanted to know how your Christmas Day mind had been drawn back to that. Haha! Well, when it happened someone tweeted it to me and I thought was funny and I retweeted then. Then recently, I remembered it and I went to see if it was still there. It was and I was like, ‘I’m gonna save that for Christmas Day’ - it wasn’t related to what I was up to. It’s just like, right, ‘Christmas Day, time to tweet my favourite tweet’. It will always be my favourite tweet because it’s how angry he is about Dave Sardine. It’s so good.

Mirror, Mirror (who’s the loneliest of all)
——————————————————
A/N: this is the song that was used. Which is two different versions.
Version 1.
Version 2.
Either one you can listen to while reading.
It was introduced to me by @simplydlightfuldestiny
POV: Third Person
Characters: Leona Kingschloar, Jade & Floyd Leech, Idia Shroud, Fem!reader
Note: I decided to try something a little different! Please let me know if I should do more writing like this or not!
Note 2: I decided to do Jade and Floyd together since it would be easier
Word Count: 685
———————————————————————
For @chucklevoodoosqueen2324
Who asked: I have a SFW scenario I've been thinking about for a while. Fem!MC arrives at Night Raven College with no aptitude for magic and is constantly teased by her peers for it. What no one knows is that she is a talented vocalist, and whenever she's feeling down and she thinks she's alone, she'll slip off to a quiet, secluded place and belt out her favorite tunes in peace and freedom. One day, though, her crush hears her singing. What is his reaction to her performance? Specifically wanting Leona, the Tweels (individual and together), and Idia. Thanks in advance!
Music.
One of the few things that a person could use to express not only themselves, but also the feelings that they normally could never say out loud in public towards other people.
And for Y/N, a girl who was without magic in a world that revolved around it, this statement was especially true. Yet another, hurtful comment about her not having magic at all had been made towards her and even though her friends had stuck up for her, something she was grateful for, it just really hammered in how she would always be the odd one out. No matter what she did.
And while no one was paying attention, she snuck away to a private place, and began to sing.
“Mirror, tell me something
Tell me, who's the loneliest of all?
Mirror, tell me something
Tell me, who's the loneliest of all?
Fear of what's inside of me
Tell me, can a heart be turned to stone?
Mirror, mirror, what's behind you?
Save me from the things I see!
I can keep it from the world
Why won't you let me hide from me?
Mirror, mirror, tell me something
Who's the loneliest of all?
I'm the loneliest of all”
Back home, Y/N was a talented vocalist, who was praised for being able to bring the emotion of whatever she sang and it really tugged at the heartstrings of whoever listened and for the ones who found themselves listening, unbeknownst to her, that was true.
~•~
Leona with his hearing, could hear the singing plain as day and normally the lion couldn't be bothered with such noise, but for once, he was compelled to listen and listen he did.
The emotion behind the words.
The loneliness.
It really touched a part of him deep down.
And when he saw who the singer was in fact, Y/N, he wanted to cure her of the loneliness that she was feeling and vowed to do just that.
~•~
If anyone saw the looks that Jade and Floyd wore, they would run in the opposite direction, as fast as they possibly could, especially after hearing Y/N’s performance and to hear just how lonely she was.
With a silent conversation between the two of them, just through their gazes, the twins began to plot on how to help Y/N not feel as lonely.
And if that meant Floyd squeezing her (gently) more than usual?
Along with Jade having her favorite food and drink ready whenever she came by the Mostro Lounge?
Well, no one mentioned it. For the sake of their own safety.
~•~
As they played their nightly video game session, Idia couldn’t help but think back to when he had overheard Y/N singing and just how alone she felt. Even in a school like NRC where there was always something happening.
Instead of the usual games they would normally play, Idia had suggested that they play one of the cozy games that he knew Y/N was fond of.
Anything to make sure that she never sounded that lonely ever again.
And if that meant playing cozy games all night, then he would gladly do that.

Rouge the thief has no darkide? according to Sonic prime...
When Sonic shattered the prysm, we got pieces of all character personalities. Some got darksides, but some more appear to have a pure heart. And some are unsuspicious:

Sonic: Sonic didn't shatter but he has a counterpart since 2001. Yes, Shadow. The two guys are virtually identical and the only difference is their colours. Shadow's overall different experssion is over a face that is very same of Sonic. Like all counterparts, Shadow is not the opposite of Sonic in all aspect. In some aspect they're the same. Shadow was not mean to be Sonic's shadow but he is Sonic's reflection. One thing that underline this is that Sonic is overall right handed and Shadow is overall left handed. Yet there are things that are the other way (Shadow uses the right when using Chaos control, while Sonic favour his left).
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
They both love a good challenge.
Tumblr media
If Sonic did statter I'm sure one of them would be the exact copy of Shadow (except the colour), with quills upward and outward. Another would be a drama queen, a cry baby (Sonic is known to be particularly good at holding back his tears. In one shatterspace, maybe the boscage, he would cry over the smallest thing, a sort of soy boy, or soy hedgehog). Another dimension would give us a Sonic who is a literal superstar. No place I think.
Tumblr media
A shattered Shadow would give us a cheerful yet a bit delinquent Shadow, like the one from Chousoku Sonic. No place maybe. We can have a innocent version of him from boscage maze and a melancholic yet sociable version from New Yolk.
I don't know if Sonic and Shadow would have at least one evil counterpart.
Tumblr media
Rouge: all Rouge counterparts from the shatterspace are good hearted. That's surprising since Rouge is a thief and thieves are criminal, although their crime may be minor. She might reflect the imaginary figure of the lady thief, she steal but she is kind and gentle.
Tumblr media
Amy also has no evil counterpart. Rusty is a cyborg that was controlled by the chaos council but once she got her mind back she quickly chooses the heroes. Is not that surprising that Amy is pure hearted.
Tumblr media
Big the cat is a large fluffy Siberian cat. And in all his countermarts, he is still a large fluffy Siberian cat. This guy is true to himself, pure, honest at the point to never change, it doesn't matter what.
Tumblr media
Knuckes has one evil counterpart, Dread. Dread is literally a psychopath. He is funny at first glance. Then you discover a liar, a manipulator, he uses other people for his goals and he is attracted by power and lust. Once people around him aren't useful amymore they can go, well... to fuck theirselves. He seems having some Gollum traits ('My beauty' mirror Gollum's 'My preciousssss!').
Interesting that a so naive character like knuckles has a so sly counterpart like Dread.
Tumblr media
Tails has one evil counterpart, Nine. Being 8 years old, Nine is just at the early stage of his role of the mad scientist. He is in the moment you discover something big you would never imagine. A power that you mean to use for yourself without meaning harm at the start. But the power is so big you get corrupted and drunk, wanting more and more without realizing. Nine was strongly against the idea of ripping apart the shatterspace... and once he gets the power, he rips the shatterspace apart, even making some world explode (like Ghost hill).
Tumblr media
If Rouge, Amy and Big have no dark side, Eggman is pure evil. His counterparts are five, all cruel and all getting along. Is like the opposite of Big the cat.

Okay Loki S2 E5 Reaction/ Review Time
SPOILERS AHEAD BEWARE
"Science / Fiction"
OH MY GOD THAT TITLE
I cant believe I was right about all of them being scattered across different time line branches, Loki having to get his friends back and them not having memories of him :O
Also the fact that the fans predicted Casey to be a dangerous / criminal because he was always so gentle in the TVA and then we see him breaking out of freaking Alcatraz?! And the fish references too XD
B15 being a Doctor was so freaking wholesome, she really just wants to help people whetevee she is :D
OB being a Scifi Author and Scientist was just perfect XDDDD
AND WE FINALLY GOT MOBIUS ON A JETSKI THIS IS A WIN FOR THE FANDOM
And again, the fact that the fans immediately predicted that Mobius was a (single) dad in his life, because they spotted a couple toys in front of the house in the mid season trailer :D
(I could literally hear the fanfiction authors melt into a puddle at the potential of Loki x single dad Mobius XD)
And the fact that he isnt just a Dad, no he is a SINGLE FATHER of TWO SONS
The freaking parallel of Mobius' two sons and young Thor & Loki?!
One being a lil mischievous prankster and the other (most likely the older) one who has to keep him out of trouble?! And the fact that he said he loves snakes?!?! That is just straight up a Thor reference?!
No wonder Mobius knows how to deal with people like Loki XD
But as much as I like the parallel of the two sons, I also feel kinda weird about what it could imply for Mobius, like does that mean he is supposed to be a mirror or opposite of Odin? A version of a dad that didnt mess up with their parenting? That this is why Loki feels drawn to Mobius? Is that what we were supposed to conclude from that?
I know we joke about Loki liking older men, and of course Loki has his daddy issues, but if Mobius is an opposite of Odin then what does that mean for Lokius?
Now to some more lore related stuff:
Can I just say that the spaghettification effect is absolutely terrifying?!?! (as stupid as it may sound) Seeing people get spaghettified fills me with just as much dread as the Dusting from the Snap, but it is so much more horrifying because it looks so brutal compared to how "gentle" the Dusting effect is....
Then Loki & Sylvie's talk about being selfish, about their own wants & needs
"Whats wrong with wanting sth?" -  she asks Loki, but in reality, has Loki ever gotten anything he truly desired? (At least L1130 hasnt, man went straight from the Events of Thor 1, to Thanos to the New York attack, he was never able to mend his relationship with Thor or find friends...)
Now... Sylvie, she still frustrates me.... I do get that she wants a life, but you cant just stab or ignore your way out of everything... plus their world is still ending as a matter fact...
It literally took her fav lil branch getting wiped out, to realize that she was wrong, that Loki was right all along, and that was AFTER she had just convinced Loki to give up his quest... because "wanting his friends back" would make him just as "selfish" as her wanting a life... But the difference is, that while Sylvie would chose her life, instead of helping fix everything, ignoring the casualties it brings, Loki would be self sacrificial enough to give up his own needs, which he literally was about to do, until Sylvie got back because she finally wanted to help avoid the impending doom that threatened to destroy them all.
I think we all kinda knew Loki's drive wasnt necessarily saving the TVA, but wanting/ needing his friends back and wanting to keep them save, but Loki actually admitting that he "wants his friends back, that he doesnt want to be alone"
THAT BROKE ME
Especially with the motive of "no one deserves to be alone" but the Lokis only ever having themselves to find comfort, and if they tried to change that, the TVA showed up to prune them, loneliness was literally what drove Classic Loki out of his hiding and into the arms of the TVA.
And Loki saying "Without them (his friends), where do I belong?"
I didnt know it was possible, but that broke me even more... he just wants a place where he is wanted and safe...
Then the time slipping, Loki being able to Control it?! IS THAT HOW THE MCU INTRODUCES LOKI BEING A WORLD WALKER?!
Loki realizing "Its not about the when, where or why. Its about the Who" (god that part was so sweet, right in the FEELS, it was so over for me, my heart cant take much more of this)
And finally Loki chosing to rewrite "The Story"... actually "Play God" thats now full confirmation of Loki God of Stories right?! RIGHT?! I wanna see my boy, God of Stories Loki is one of my Fave Lokis :DDDD

Halloween.... Spooky scary skeleton 🎶
Okay since halloween is near what if humans do not exsisted in two world but as a myth, like we humans make mythos out of thin air or drugs
And child yuu just appear one day?
I'm assuming you mean twst so I'm going to write it that way. But if you meant a different Fandom feel free to message me again. Also since you didn't pick 3 characters I'm going to do a more general version then focused on characters.
Edit: I ran out of steam and only did the first 3 dorms.
Content warning: Monsters, child reader
In the world of Twisted Wonderland there are a few truths none question; the great seven where revered, the races of monsters where to do their best to keep the peace the great seven created, and humans where nothing more then myths. Though the stories of humans where common, told as tales of fun and whimsy most of the time. There where a few cases of stories where humans where dangerous, abducting monsters to have friends. A set truth about humans aside they didn't exist was if you befriended one, and treasured them in return of their loyalty they would help your magic grow. Young monsters often sought out humans for fun and with hopes of becoming a mage worthy of being seen along side the great seven.
The world of humans was real, a reality mirroring the monster's own. Where humans where viewed by monsters like fairies are to humans; to humans a majority of monsters where to be fear. But just like the monster world their counterpart was viewed as fake.
On rare once a millennium event the realities overlapped allowing for travel between realms. Though usually it was with out incident, but on occasion someone fall through. A monster and a human switched places. But none truly knew of this.
Mc was little even for their age. Though their age was small as well, not even in double digits yet. So waking up in a strange place alone was not ideal. In fact it was the opposite of what any child would want. Alone, lost, and hungry you could do nothing but cry. A cry that caught the attention of a certain Tengu headmaster.
Crowley was in shock to find such a little monster alone in the mirror chamber and approached. Only for the little one to scream. At the fearful wailing he took a closer look and was in shock to find the child was *human*. Oh how fortunate for his school chosen to host such a rare guest! It was a sign and he couldn't wait to see who you chose to bestow power upon, would it be one or many?
Once you're calmed down and reassured no one would hurt you, he asked how you arrived. The answer of you didn't know wasn't ideal but no matter. Soon you found yourself bounced between dorms to find someone for you to bond with.
Heartslabyul was first. The dorm leader refused at first finding no possible way a human could exist, as such he was very hard on you for the first week. The werewolf was strict on everyone but especially himself lest he become a mindless beast. Trey the gentle living doll however was kind and managed to help Riddle realize you where human and not some monsterling shape shifted. Once that gets out the school is vying for your attention. The various monsters in Heartslabyul did their best to keep the havoc to a minimal for your sake.
Savanclaw has a mixed reaction. The sphinx dormleader Leona was the worst at having mixed feelings. He wanted the promised power a human could offer, but you where a child and children where such a pain to deal with..or so he claimed. Most of your care while with them is from Ruggie the resident Knoll and Jack the werewolf wind spirit hybrid.
Octavinelle was the first to have actively tried to bribe your affections. Even with out the bond you brought profits galore. Everyone wanted a deal with Azul the water element Slime, as such his power was growing and growing. The twins a pair of sea serpents where extra busy keeping the lounge in order as many monsters fought to get contracts for a chance to meet the small human.

no bond is stronger than the one between a batkid and his corresponding speedster
Literally, there's a speedster to compliment every bat
Dick and Wally have the classic brolationship—they have their own partners but that won't stop them from sleeping in the same bed, ordering one milkshake, or sharing custody of Zitka. They have the comfort of knowing that in every life, they have each other. Plus, Babs and Linda already have their bredding (bro wedding) planned out.
Hear me out: Jason's speedster is Owen Mercer. Owen, who's the second Captain Boomerang with short bursts of speed, can act as both the hero and the villain in different narratives. Unlike his predecessor, his alignment shifts to suit his needs but he's more good than bad, which makes him a prime Outlaw candidate. Also Jason wants to set the record for most redheads collected.
Tim has Bart. A lot of fan portrayals have Bart as tertiary to Tim and Kon (it's even a point of contention in canon). However, I think of Bart's mentality as the antithesis to Tim's. Tim mulls over strategy while Bart chooses to act first. They both have a stubborn righteousness, but Tim is jaded with experience compared to Bart, who maintains a youthful sense of optimism and ambition. They're both geniuses, but Bart is far more in touch with emotions and can call out when something isn't right in a relationship.
Damian has Wallace II. Canonically, they butt heads before coming to the realization they have to team up. Rather than being the opposite, I think Wallace's defiant attitude mirrors Damian's. They've both been let down by the adults in their lives and prefer to take things into their own hands. They both have childish egos that have been subdued over time, which can be both a common ground and a clashing point that keeps their relationship interesting.
I was initially gonna pair Jesse with Babs, but I think there's more growth potential with Steph. They're fast learners who aren't afraid to let themselves feel, and sometimes they're in over their heads. Jesse feels like a future snapshot of Steph. I can see Jesse showing Steph how to channel her passion and energy not just in being hero, but also becoming a better version of herself.
Duke and Cass share Avery. Compared to Duke, Cass and Avery have been around more. I can picture them taking him around the world on new adventures and teaching him tricks that Bruce wouldn't have. Avery switches between places pretty often, which makes her a reliable point of contact outside of Gotham. Also I wanna see Duke and Avery combine their powers.
Babs and Danica are the "let people underestimate us because of our disabilities" duo. While Babs is on the home front as Oracle, Danica is the speedster no one expects because her inhaler throws off all suspicions about her identity. While Danica doesn't quite fit with the Birds of Prey, she still makes a valuable ally.
Thaddeus possesses a cynicism akin to Cullen Row, although Thad is more unhinged. I can see them connecting over their resentment and without anyone to keep them in check, that can be dangerous. However, Harper is more grounded and draws clear moral boundaries, so she acts as a counterbalance that turns a destructive relationship into a productive one.
Jess and Carrie's nonbinary asses would definitely get along. They both have fun personalities and creative ways to navigate situations where not many tools are provided. They can be loud and attention grabbing when they want, but they also know the advantages of being in the background.
Kate and Max are similar in that they're mentors, but they're also not. They're the ones who step in when the usual mentor figures (Bruce and Barry) fall short. They have a distant exterior but provide lots of love and support once someone gets through to them, and they're not afraid to call out their counterparts.
Alfred and Jay have plenty of experience under their belts and don't let their age keep them from the action. It's abundantly clear that they care about their families, and it hurts when they can't protect them from everything. Jay has a more American Grandpa sense of humor while Alfred has the dry British wit, so together they're unstoppable.
John Fox barely shows up in the comics, but when he does he's doing what he thinks is best only to land in trouble. Selina would relate to the messy history and moral ambiguity where actions don't match intentions. They also both have a knack for disguises and can exchange tips.
Bruce has Barry, obviously. Their relationship is similar to Tim and Bart's. Bruce definitely lets the grimdarkness seep into how he sees the world, whereas Barry can step back and look at things from an objective lens. Not everything need a complicated plans with a thousand contingencies, so Barry is like the common sense/Occam's Razor. Plus, we all love how he and the team mess with Bruce—it's what Bruce needs.

on my hands and knees for more yan genji. maybe a continuation of the oni genji thing you did, or whatever you want really.. just love him lots <3
I don't usually do continuations with event requests but I'll see what I can do. Mostly just Genji lamenting your differences and frustration about loving you.
This fic is based on this concept
Abnormal
Yandere! Oni! Genji Short
Pairing: Romantic
Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Kidnapping, Obsession, Stalking mention, Sadism, Threats, Threats of murder, Forced relationship.
Tumblr media
"I've noticed you've been having trouble getting used to your surroundings."
The oni observes you curled up on the bed he made for you, looking out the window to a mirrored version of your own world. Except instead of people roaming the streets... yokai replaced them. You nervously look towards the oni who took you from your home.
His name was Genji. He's an oni who stalked you and tormented you since Halloween. Oni are creatures of sadistic desire and evil energy. You didn't understand what his goal was.
He was also strangely cybernetic for an oni....
"You took me to a supernatural realm. I'm not supposed to be here- Why'd you take me!?"
The oni steps closer, holding your cheeks. He stares at you through his mask before chuckling softly. Even when mad, your fear is delectable.
"Aww, don't like my company? I thought we were having fun all those months ago. Just a couple of scares...."
He pulls you closer, you can feel his breath through the mask.
"I took you to my home because I've decided we're bonded to each other. I am a demon connected to you, like it or not. You are my human... something to play with."
He sits next to you on the bed, only pulling you by your shirt if you try to distance yourself. So that's why he abducted you, he took you to your own personal hell...
Where he'd be your tormentor.
"Couldn't you just leave me in my realm? Scare me there?"
The oni grimaces.
"And leave you with all the other filthy humans? No. They'd remove me from you. Then I'd have to kill them. It would be a hassle."
He puts his hands on your shoulders, holding you still.
"Here I can farm every emotion you have without the fear of losing you. All the other demons here would tear you apart. I, on the other hand, would never. You have nowhere to run."
"What makes you so sure I can trust you?"
He leans closer, mask once again close to your face.
"If any other demon, any other yokai... touches you? I'd banish them. I'd tear them limb from limb with my sword in a rage that could kill armies. All just to see my cute human in my arms again."
He chuckles at his own threat, you stare at him in bewilderment.
"Isn't that what you humans would call romantic? A partner who would kill others to keep you?"
"No!"
The oni snickers at your outburst, leaning back. It was always fun getting reactions from you. It's funny to him...
There's you, an innocent creature easily able to be tormented. Then there's him, a being of malice and evil desires, a beast. Two polar opposites...
Yet he's attracted to you like he can't exist without you.
"Really? I thought it was. Not many demons would be this dedicated to a human. Consider yourself... lucky."
"Lucky to be imprisoned?"
"Lucky I haven't killed you instead."
You go silent, the oni laying down on the bed before forcing you beside him. You're draped over him against your will. His threat was starting to get to you....
"... it's been months."
The oni huffs, looking at you.
"Months of you making me feel strange. I've never felt this way towards anything. No yokai... no human... just you."
He adjusts you so he can hold your chin.
"Maybe you are special. Special enough to tame an oni's rage. No one's like you, you know that?"
You look at him blankly, resting against his heated body.
"I just knew I had to have you. Now I do... however I still do not know why I am so obsessive over you... and you don't reciprocate."
He's pulling you closer.
"What was I expecting, honestly? I'm not a master of seduction. Not that type of demon. I'm meant to always be angry, full of rage, a human is not meant to love me!"
As he talks, his grip gets tighter, venting his frustrations towards him being unable to make a relationship between you. He is not meant to create, he is meant to destroy. His feelings are abnormal.
You're abnormal.
"... in the end, I'm sure we'll figure something out."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean in the end I'll get you to love me. I'd demolish armies, level mountains, anything to make you adore me. All I have is my strength... you'll love me for what I do for you even if it must be forced."
"This isn't love, Genji."
Genji stops his rant, red eyes looking at you. He then scoffs, looking out the window towards ethereal night stars.
"Do you really expect an oni like me to know what love is, (Y/N)?"
He doesn't take his gaze away, instead he searches for his sword and holds it up to look at it. It's a glowing red, filled with power. Power only an oni could be strong enough to wield....
"My love is not like yours. It's burning, destructive.... I don't care if it is wrong to give it to you, I crave you. You're mine... even if you hate it."
He lays down his sword then turns so he's facing you.
"I don't expect you to willingly give me a chance even now. I would not let you go either way. You're mine, like it or not..."
He pushes his sharp mask into the crook of your neck, drawing a little bit of blood.
"We're fated to love each other, one way or another, even if it destroys us...."

Honestly SP seems to make me hate ships that I normally would not hate because they're in the realm of fanfiction and fan art and I think that's harmless. Not taking the toxic fandoms into account it was SP that made me hate NaruSaku and Ichiruki.
I'll make this brief. Why do I now hate Ichiruki? I didn't always hate it. I was actually more of a fan of Ichiruki than Ichihime until I reread the bleach Manga last year and then watch the anime as well and I grew annoyed every time there was an Ichiruki moment. Not only does it break the pacing of scenes it makes characters acting out of character Ichigo and rukia especially. I don't mind non-canon crack ships as long as it's kept in the realm of fan art and fanfiction and not inserting it into what is supposed to be Canon moments in the story and at the expense of other characters.
What could have been an amazing movie where we explored a mirror universe instead we had NaruSaku the movie where Naruto and Sakura are acting both out of character and it kind of feels like there were two movies in one and the version that Kishimoto wrote was mostly cut from the cutting room floor.
There was a huge opportunity to explore a different aspect of Hinata and Sasuke's characters. Instead we got some stupid ship movie with NaruSaku. I mean there was so much potential with road to ninja Hinata and Sasuke and it was wasted. I mean the exact opposite of who these characters are in personality. I mean there's so much you could have explored. The best scenes of that movie arguably were like 5% of the film if even that and when you compare it to the likes of One piece strong world which came out a few years before actually respected The source material and the author you could tell the difference is night and day hell Naruto the last felt like a genuine story by Kishimoto and you can tell the difference between that film and road to ninja.
I argue that the tie into the movie was better than the movie itself because it actually explored Ino and explored the road to ninja version of Sakura who arguably was more likable than her canon counterpart. It's rare that you get to explore near universe versions of characters concepts are usually explored in science fiction and the very fact that SP wasted a cool concept was tossed aside for a freaking ship that had no chance in hell ever being Canon will never not piss me off.
SP makes it seem like every anime they seem to do a series of it makes it seem like that series is concerned with shipping and I don't think shipping is bad but it should never come at the expense of a Canon story written by the author. The author and only the author in my eyes in an official product should be able to dictate what ships happen and what ships don't for better or for worse we're not the people that choose who ends up with who the author does. This shipping bullshit kills the integrity in my opinion of these stories that we all enjoy because it seems like certain people are more concerned with the shipping aspect then the actual story
Honestly I was never a fan of Sakura, but it was more her fandom that made me hate her, SP's bias was just the icing on the cake that gave me more reason to dislike it.
I am more of an IchiRuki fan I watched the anime long before the manga hence all the scenes made me a fan though I have nothing against IchiHime and after reading the manga it was obvious why they happened and that SP was really bias towards IchiRuki through out the anime. Its no surprise the author had complaints and refused to let them do another season without his supervision.
Yes RTN was ruined by NaruSaku honestly considering it was set after Pain's confession and none canon it could have tied into Hinata's feelings for Naruto/Menma while exploring a different take. I really want to know why Menma ended up dark side considering he had a family and Hinata clearly loved him. It could have been a sweet story where Hinata toughened up to help Menma after people rejected him for the fox.
So true SP's shipping bias is so unprofessional and as you said ruins the integrity of the stories as they force a ship that contradicts canon and usually in ways that aren't believable.

random writing question:
what’s your experience with writing romance (scenes, characters, dialogue) as someone on the ace spectrum?
That's a good question (and I'm always happy to talk about aspec experiences/perspectives)! I've been writing romance, more through fanfic than original works (which are mostly politics/found family centric), for much longer than I've know I was ace, since I started writing around age 11, started questioning if I was ace when I was 16, and accepted/been identifying and out as ace since I was 18. So I've never really thought about it consciously, even if my perspective undoubtedly affects the way I write and enjoy romance/life partner dynamics (romantic or not).
My perspective is also, as always, coloured by the fact that I'm fully asexual and sex repulsed, which is not the case for all aces or all people on the ace spectrum, and I'm also on the aromantic spectrum, so I do experience some romantic attraction. I just know it's not quite the form that allo people experience in the how or the why or the feeling, either.
But basically, I treat romance like any other kind of bond, which is that I filter it through what the characters bring to each other, and each of them need. I also think about their histories and especially their personal compatibility and like, what they enjoy? I'll talk a bit about crafting OC/OC romances cause I think it's useful
For example: in my OG works I have two sort of main 'ships'. One is between a pair of childhood best friends; they always have each other's backs and while the whole group they're in is very close, they're particularly close / have a soft spot for each other. Much more tender hearted than roasting one another. This lends them a sweetness and a steady acceptance that's in contrast with well, the horrors they're going to go through because war is a bitch, as well as a "the whole world can change but we won't let it change us / tear us away from each other" notion. One of the characters in the ship (who's aspec himself) is also very much a "I want to take care of everyone" type of character, whereas his counterpart is caring but also very rightfully selfish and "I never asked for this". A "they take care of everyone and I take care of them" type bond that neither really share with anyone else.
The main appeal of this sort of ship dynamic, I think, is the steadiness and intimacy and a gentler, sort of very constant love. Some drama, not a ton, and very much "you and I against the world" type thing.
The other ship falls into the other main category of 'ships' I think, which is the Transformative Ship, or Mirrored Ship, where they are two very different characters who meet as strangers, comparatively, on opposite sides of a war, and because of those circumstances, they change each other radically. An often painful but poignant process, and one that helps them to work through their differences, yes, but also to acknowledge their similarities. One of the appealing aspects of this kind of ship is the way it can make the characters 'Better' / grow into more self actualized versions of themselves, and the inconvenience of having feelings for someone it would be much easier to not have those feelings for and/or or during a time when you should be focusing on other things.
Where the other ship type is inherently a chosen Narrowing of worldview and priorities, this one can be an Expansion of worldview and priorities. And, typically, this time of dynamic can eventually evolve into the first one as the transformative aspect is steadied into something more permanent and reliable.
This is, unsurprisingly, the relationship pattern I think Rayllum follows - moving from radically transformation to being transformative and steady - and one of the reasons why I think it's as popular as it is.
On the one hand, you have two kids with very different upbringings and personalities, but they also quickly and readily click because of their core, inverted similarities ("I've always been kinda bad, at well, everything... So when I tried that spell, I was sure I'd end up on fire or covered in spiders, but it worked" / "Well you are right, I am pretty awesome at everything. Right up until the moment it really matters... And the next thing I know, I've failed") but shared goals / good hearts. They can both grow and learn from each other, and also share 90% of their screentime with one another, and this leads to them developing a very intense and devoted bond with one another, able to withstand lies, heartbreak, two years of separation, interrelated sources of trauma, moral disagreements, and more.
But people can mean a lot to one another, and have a very meaningful connection to one another, while also not needing to be romantic. So why take a bond like this and make it romantic, if like Rayllum, it's rooted in platonic affection and soulmatism first and foremost? There's a few things:
1) The most obvious, but romance being something that a character actively wants - either just as an idea in general, or with a specific person, can typically be enough to sell someone on an idea. Kind of think the musical "I want" song - we're used to rooting for characters and their desires, particularly if the person they want is also seemingly interested and/or nice to them. For example, we know from very early on in the show that Callum does experience romantic feelings / has a crush on Claudia. It's also pretty clear early on that it's probably not built to last, and that his feelings are stronger / more evident than hers. This makes it feel uneven, and because we like Callum and/or Claudia, this makes us want to see it change; either in Claudia evening it out by gaining more feelings, or in Callum evening it out by losing those feelings. In the same episodes where he and Claudia fall apart, his and Rayla's bond is strengthened, putting the two in a clear contrasting parallel with one another. So for Callum's character, I think one of the main appeals of him in a romance is him getting a second chance and being the one pursued, etc. at least on a surface level.
2) However, there's also something really fun, and funny, about forcing a character into a situation or circumstance they don't really want to be in (+ dramatic irony to boot). This is why most romcoms will have one character who actively wants love and one who's sworn it off, because it gives them a very easy "pursuant and main character who gets a character arc by opening up their heart again". This is more where I think Rayla falls, as a character. We haven't and probably will never see her have feelings for anyone but Callum, and we don't know she has feelings for sure (although 2x02 and 2x04 definitely hint heavily at it) until 2x09. But what we do know about Rayla is that she's a character who heavily values being in control and keeping her composure. Love, and falling in love, strips her of all of that, and forces her to confront and express her emotions, something that her overall character arc in S1-S3 is pushing her to do in all aspects of her life.
This is also why it is exceedingly in sitcoms, particularly for female leads, to start off shows in an evidently unsatisfying relationship (The Office, Superstore, later on in S1 of Brooklyn Nine Nine, Abbott Elementary) because her leaving that relationship and realizing she deserves better or wants more (which eventually ends up being the male lead) is a really easy way to make an audience feel like there's progress being made while also offering up an default solution as to why the Intended Couple isn't starting to date right away while letting them interact consistently. And honestly, it's usually pretty damn effective because it allows for change and growth while also highlighting character agency (and we tend to root more for active characters than passive characters, although not always).
This is all very long winded in terms of Constructing a Romance, so I'm gonna take a briefer chance to talk about how to Write a Romance, execution wise:
a) Intimacy. This is arguably the most important thing. The trust, the knowing / noticing the little things, being able to respond to someone in the way they need, forgiving them quickly and letting anger go to work through things, having a grounded admiration and respect, etc etc. You'll notice that while the 'steadiness' ships are grounded in this, so are the transformative ships, as what they find is an unexpected intimacy in each other due to having shared experiences. However, partners being able to empathize and support in experiences they don't share is, arguably, even more important.
b) Banter. Quippy little back and forths, tiny harmless digs, dumb inside jokes, outright flirting, making sure these characters' conversations are just interesting to read. If you wanna sell people on a couple, you wanna make sure it feels like they can actually have a conversation about a variety of different topics and enjoy spending time together, even if it's in an "you're intriguing" kind of way at first > a "you're fun" kind of way
c) Unique bond. This one is hard to quantify, cause ideally every relationship a character has with another character should have some elements of uniqueness, and having a unique bond isn't exclusive to romance. However, what can make a romance - or life partnership - compelling is that the LI (love interest) gives something to the other character that they aren't getting from anyone else. Think of Callum and Rayla for example. Ez is the other most important person in Callum's life, and that's his little brother. That's an unconditional love most people can't touch. However, Rayla's unique bond with Callum means that she is his first peer - someone he can rely on just as much as he looks out for them, which largely due to his and Ez's youth, age gap, and Callum's personality, isn't always the case, and a Best Friend like that (Soren's bullying and his crush on Claudia keeps him at a distance from each of his other options) is something he's clearly fundamentally needed for a long time. And boom, a very nice and compelling foundation for a future romance has been laid!
TDP is also very effective with all of its elf-human couples since, sorely due to the nature of the story's conflict and worldbuilding, elf-human couples wanting to be together and live together (again, life partners) is always going to be a more narratively satisfying / interesting route than if these people wanted to live separately, since they're existing in a continent that was literally divided in two. Them being life/romantic partners is Harder, and therefore the better route, usually, story wise
A few more closing thoughts cause this got really (unsurprisingly, knowing me) long.
All this in mind: the way I write romance is almost entirely the same way I'd write a QPR (queer platonic relationship / platonic life partnership relationship). The only reason I tend to write romances > QPRs is because I think characters kissing is fun, and even that isn't exclusive to romantic dynamics, it's just exclusive to romantic dynamics to me. If I don't buy that two characters would be Good Friends regardless of any romantic feelings, or if romantic feelings overshadow a platonic foundation, I'm not likely to be very invested, and I have a hard time with insta-attraction as a result (attraction can be there from the start, but the ship itself can't be based on that magnetism - at least, not for me).
Anyway, hope this was helpful & that you enjoyed it! Always feel free to drop in random writing questions whenever, I love to talk about this sort of thing

My idea for Daisy in a Mario movie follow up (spoilers for the Mario movie, of course)
Tumblr media
So I finally caved and went to watch the Mario movie with my sister. It wasn’t amazing but I think it’s a pretty good adaptation of the games overall. I’d love to see a sequel or spin-off in this new universe if it’s done right. (which being realistic I highly doubt they will given Illumination’s track record with sequels but that’s another story)
It got me thinking about how other characters that didn’t appear in the film could be incorporated into sequel or spin-off movies. And I thought of one of my favourite characters; Daisy!
Click the readmore if you don’t mind spoilers for the movie.
Now, before watching the movie I liked the idea of Daisy showing up in a sequel or spin-off movie. Like some kind of princess peach solo movie/princess team up movie. Or maybe in that rumoured Luigi’s Mansion spin-off.
However, once I actually watched the movie, though, I feel like adding Daisy may prove problematic for story reasons.
Like, let’s look at Daisy and what her deal is: a princess from Sarasaland who’s a cocky, loud mouthed Tom boy who’s super into sports, has a good relationship with her dad and is super competitive.
She makes for a great addition in the Mario games since her bombastic personality shines through in the more tone down and fairly generic personalities of the rest of the cast (in the sports titles anyway).
In the context of the Mario movie though… I’m not so sure.
You can’t have her be the athletic proactive action girl princess since the movie already has that with their version Peach.
You can’t play up her cockiness and competitive nature and relationship to her dad either since you get some of that with movie Donkey Kong.
There are already two characters who fill both niches she provides, so putting her in the movie as is, with no changes, would just make her redundant and a pointless addition.
But then, I had an idea;
You know how in the movie, it’s revealed Peach wasn’t originally from the mushroom kingdom, but a human that stumbled into one of the inter dimensional warp pipes as a child and was taken in by the Toads?
Well… what if, instead of a kid coming from a human world to a fantasy world like what happened with Peach, what if was the opposite way around? What if, instead of being raised in Sarasaland, Daisy was separated from her homeland via warp pipe when she was very young and ended up in the regular human world. What if she wasn’t taken in by anyone and had to fend for herself on the streets for a good portion of her life? Perhaps with her only escape being sports? Never knowing for the longest time her true birthright as the heir to an entire kingdom?
So yeah! That’s my idea for Daisy; a princess who was born in Sarahsa Land but ended up on earth and became a scrappy tomboy loner.
To me, this idea of Daisy’s backstory being a mirror to Peach’s would be the best of both worlds; you’d still stay true to daisy as the tomboyish princess, but with a backstory and slight edge that makes her distinct and be able to bring a niche to the cast that isn’t filled by other characters. Maybe with this version of Daisy, they could play up her moxie, anger issues and attitude, since she grew up in a rougher environment. Kinda like her attitude in Super Mario strikers. Plus, her discovering she’s a princess and learning how to be a leader could make for an interesting character arc.
Tumblr media
And yes, I know the whole “Daisy being royalty that got teleported to the regular human world from her original dimension” thing was kinda already done in the 1993 Mario Bros movie. Funny enough, I actually hadn’t realised this until I brainstormed the idea with my sister after the movie. Me thinking of such a similar idea was actually a complete coincidence. But I think my take on it was different enough from the 93 movie anyway.

TWO BOYS ONE GIRL: THERES SOMETHING ABOUT MARCUS
I'm watching the show and anytime I watch Marcus and his interactions with SYDNEY in particular I feel like I'm watching a parallel universe
It's not even about him being a romantic rival for Carmy. They're doing something else with his character too.
It's like a mirror up to Carmy's life but opposite. But not too opposite. I don't know how to explain.
It's like Carmy's life is the extreme and Marcus' life is the milder version of Carmy. What Carmy's life may have been like without all the chaos and addiction etc.
Ok take SYD'S behavior toward him. She's encouraging, most times
Tumblr media
But sometimes just indifferent
Tumblr media
I get it
She's having boundaries but I think she may have to define them better, just to avoid him taking it the wrong way.
But it's not just that. There was that while parallel universe thing where she was upset with Marcus and it seemed like the Fishes episode.
Then basically anytime Marcus does something with respect to Syd, Carmy does it and vice versa. However Syd responds in an obviously different way to each of them over a similar circumstance
CARMY yells at Syd in Review, Marcus yells at Syd (way less intense than Carmy did)
Marcus ends up with Luca in Copenhagen living the life Carmy did at one point. But Marcus explores and enjoys it and learns from Luca. They become friends. CARMY works and works and competes against Luca
Tumblr media
Marcus has a mom who he takes care of because she's ill. CARMY has an ill mom he avoids.
Marcus has a brother who isn't really around.
CARMY has a brother who cannot be around
Marcus has a Chester, who is supportive and caring
Tumblr media
CARMY has a Richie (ew)
CARMY has a Cicero in his life ( love yet fear), MARCUS HAS NEVER encountered a CICERO. It doesn't exist in his world
CARMY has Claire
Marcus didn't even know Claire existed and didn't even need to know. Marcus doesn't need a 'Claire '
It's like Carmy's life held up to a vaguely distorted mirror
Marcus is willing to learn just like Carmy did and Marcus is definitely on his way to being a great Patissiere, like Carmy is a great chef.
Tumblr media
There's more.
CARMY asks Syd if they're good(their relationship)
Tumblr media
Marcus asks her if she's mad at him
Tumblr media
I like what they seem to be doing but I don't understand why. I mean I dunno why they'd do it
Syd is in the middle of it all. Maybe that's part of what her tattoo is about. The heart with three swords
CARMY got confidence from his brother
Marcus got confidence from Syd(who Carmy wants to be best friends with, just like he thought his brother was)
I'm just observing. There are so many other instances.
Carmy invites Syd over to his apartment and he basically cooks for her but she helps
Tumblr media
Syd Invites Marcus but she cooks for him and he observes and asks questions.
Tumblr media
There's more...
Why is Marcus laughing at Carmy here? CARMY was screaming for dear life because of that sound. So is the sound that bad or is it extreme, in Carmy's head. It's a bizarre topsy turvy dynamic

STAR TREK UPDATE TIME!!! thursday we watched tng's "emergence" and ds9's "crossover" (honorific)
emergence (tng):
I HATE HOLODECK EPISODES. i wanted season 7 to go out on a high note. nostalgia and time would have made me forget so many of tng's sins if it had gone out on a high note
girl, the enterprise CAME TO LIFE, had a baby, and then died, and nobody had anything to say about that except "ok let the baby fly into space hope it has a good life!"
the enterprise and moya from farscape could have raised their children together communally. like feral cats.
if kirk had been captain when the enterprise came to life he would NOT have let that baby fly into space. he would have gotten one of those little toddler leashes. he would have paid child support. he's not the step dad he's the dad who stepped up
i honestly don't remember what else happened here because the following episode blew my tits clean off
oh yeah wait i think it was racist to make worf shovel the coal. shame on them. data's way stronger than worf he should have been doing it he would have been like yay i love a novel experience :) i can add this to my file on coal shoveling :)
crossover (ds9):
WORLD'S LONGEST YEAH BOY
no, i'm just going to abandon my bullet points. where do i even begin...you know, actually, let's begin at the beginning, which is the tos mirrorverse episode. i have a wider meta on this in me somewhre i bet but it wasn't always this way! i like, initially watched this, went, "huh! that was neat," and thought no more about it until i read a fanfic (don't ask for it i'm not telling, it was more like 2-3 fanfics honestly) and then i was like WAIT HOLD ON A SECOND. see, my fascination with mirrorverse comes primarily from the following hypothesis:
everyone always says that bones in mirrorverse and bones in the prime universe are the same guy and that makes him god's specialest princess, which i don't disagree with! but i think, deep down, EVERYONE is the same. i think mirrorverse (quite accidentally) provides a pretty compelling commentary on both nature vs nurture and the cycle of violence. kirk, who undoubtedly went to a much worse version of tarsus iv in the mirrorverse, becomes a guy slaughtering colonists by the thousands, because in his mind that's what power looks like and being powerful means being safe. spock, who is brought up to believe violence is logical instead of pacifism, follows that doctrine just as strictly as he sticks to his morals in the prime universe, and indulges in his emotions just as rarely, because in either case he is punished just as much, if not more, for going against vulcan and human social norms.
put the same guys in the opposite situation (ie a mirror) and they will turn out as their own twisted reflections every time. mirror kirk is just as driven to succeed, just at a different game. he has just as much of a temper, but without the apologies that come afterward. he's just and dangerous and as handy in a fight as prime kirk, but without the moral compass that has him pulling punches instead of a knife. he has that same desire for power, though it's to protect himself rather than to protect other people. mirror spock is just as sharp and calculating, he's just running different numbers, after different results. he's just as good at sussing out emotional motives because of his forced distance from them, but he has spent a lifetime being rewarded for exploiting the emotions of others instead of trying to understand them. he even shares the same preference for being the first officer instead of in command, though the two spocks have differing reasons for this. you could even argue that he has the same capacity for loyalty, inasmuch as it's safe or possible to be loyal in the mirrorverse; he avoids trying to kill kirk as much as he possibly can, and when he finds out "his" kirk is gone, immediately does everything in his power to see to getting him back where he belongs. the mirror characters aren't opposites; they're reflections, inversions. they started out as the same base thing. they were made ugly and evil by their circumstances.
we didn't get to see much of mirror kirk and none of mirror bones (to my eternal woe), but knowing mirror spock DID ultimately take action towards pacifism and reform is extremely damning evidence for this hypothesis, at least in my mind palace. our own spock is defined by his compassion and selflessness; he gave his life in the warp core because the needs of the many outweighed his own needs. mirror spock is running the calculation in the other direction; he is thinking of his own needs. yet he comes to the SAME CONCLUSION - it is important for people to be safe, because logically nothing else can hold.
i notice that they carefully avoided saying whether or not spock ACTUALLY killed kirk, and i love that, because i loved the open-ended nature of the original mirrorverse episode - i loved that we could imagine anything happening. kirk dying or becoming a better person or becoming a worse person. i'm a little sad to have finally lost that, but i love that we can still just as gleefully imagine spock shoving a pole through kirk's ribs (in the horny way) or them being little rebels with bones and fighting the system together. ooooh and you better BELIEVE i had to pause the episode and cover my face and take a moment to have my hysterics when they implied mirror spock may have killed mirror kirk bc our kirk asking mirror spock to kill his other self was one of the horniest things tos ever did, up there with amok time and that stupid bondage harness.
speaking of horny, let's get into the actual episode. this episode was so abjectly fucking horny it's ASTOUNDING. it's mind-blowing. i think lesbian kira-on-kira was ABSOLUTELY the way to go as far as introductions. and kira-on-kira PROVES MY HYPOTHESIS!!! mirror kira has the same sympathy for her human laborers (the downtrodden), just not extended further than she extends sympathy for herself. she is also, like our kira, into girls. AND she is seduced by the idea of giving power to a weak bajor. kira's love affair with herself was probably the best part of this episode, number one because women and number two because they understood each other SO well except mirror kira was just unstable enough to be scary. and kira being like a little scared of her and them still being gay was really problematic and horny of them. fun. god. like, BATH SCENE?? HELLO??? i hope nana visitor had the time of her fucking life
mirror garak is also basically the same guy. this is just pre-exile garak. he's so conniving and gay. he didn't even do any of that seductive shit to our kira. why? he's not into girls!
i'm so sorry odo and quark didn't get a better lot in this verse. they don't come back either i checked :( odo was kind of boring, unfortunately, except for3 points: firstly, him slapping julian like 3 times was also problematic but horny. secondly, the goop he exploded into. rip king. (and kira moruning him!! otp.) thirdly, this is odo's disdain and lack of understanding for humanity (humanoidanity?) multiplied by 1000x. this is not an odo who was forced to get to know us and saw that some of us needed the protection he had to live without and now had the power to give, this is an odo who was experimented on and probably killed dr mora on his way out of the facility, and is looking to dish some out instead of take it. FUN. our odo makes hands to touch people with. this odo makes hands to slap people with. rip to that guy and i was absolutely shocked that a do-no-harm DOCTOR killed him but honestly there's probably a net good in that for our julian.
quark running the metaphorical underground railroad out here also seems to echo him selling food to bajorans...also, his, outfit? it made him look like a good person. it's a wonder it took them so long to catch him. our quark is selfish because he sees it as a path to a good life. their quark is selfLESS for the same reason, see? also SCREAM that our kira was like yes we're BESTIES on the other side when she often tells him how much she despises him lmao
o'brien!!! god i wish we had seen more of him but i LOVED him and julian being besties here too. he was like youre NOT my friend and then 20 minutes later helping him escape. it's like he was a sleeper agent, he got one whiff or someone who could afford to have a moral compass and instantly he was like actually yeah humans deserve better than this! i love that julian was just gonna take him back and have two obrien besties and fuck starfleet if they didn't like it lol. obrien secretly also the same, and i'm really glad he got to at least escape w sisko to become a pirate or whatever.
HEY. BY THE WAY. PIRATE SISKO. SO FUN AND EDGY. he was really unhinged and kind of like a lunatic. cw for discussion of rape the rest of this paragraph. so i think there was a light implication via his body language and also "you charmed your way out of the mines" that he was NOT enjoying/consenting to the sex he was having with mirror kira, but very much enjoyed the opportunity to menace her counterpart, and other people, like obrien. again, like odo, he is tired of taking it and itching to dish soem out. UNLIKE odo, we see that he has people he loves! he says "i made the best of a bad life for my crew" and even shakes his head at one of his crew members who is about to do something that will get them hurt - he's also happy enough to take obrien, former target, under his wing on the way out, when he sees something worthy there. JUST LIKE OUR SISKO, he IS protective and he DOES value his people! i loved seeing that core of him, even though his outside was deranged in a fun evil way.
ok, to finally wrap this up, bashir giving away his plate of mush at mealtime because he's gonna get to go back to a nice cozy universe soon (or die) and these people won't is soooo. god. he's SO COMPASSIONATE......like i knew that objectively but we haven't really seen it in action much up until now. it fucking kills me. his compassion, inherent Good Universe vibes, has such a profound impact on mirror obrien in such a short time, but ultimately you CAN'T change this universe. you can affect single people in it, the way kirk got mirror spock, but the point of the mirrorverse is to be evil and edgy (and horny), so no matter WHAT the characters in it do, it is a LAW OF THAT UNIVERSE that powers beyond their comprehension will always reset the status quo to STAY evil and edgy (and horny). like at first i was like oh shit kirk really stepped in it nice job breaking it hero but like it simply CAN'T be fixed. if you try, you will fail. determinism in star trek. wild.
also, wait, sorry, julian coming back filthy head to toe and kira coming back in a ballgown when our sisko has been having kittens trying to locate his people.....iconic. mister privileged having to process ore like kira used to do and kira former ore processor wearing a fancy luxurious evening gown. talk about swapping places.
TONIGHT: tng's "preemptive strike" and ds9's "the collaborator." last non-finale episode of tng!!!

Eddie  Redmayne for GQ Italia
27 ottobre 2022
in English:
Last summer after playing The Good Nurse and before starting rehearsals for the Cabaret revival, winner of the Olivier Awards 2022, Eddie Redmayne back to school at the very specific and renowned academic institute  l'École Internationale de Theatre Jacques Lecoq, more know as the Clown school, to Paris.
Redmayne took a  course in theatre of the absurd for two weeks where he spent the time to improvise and play. The course was very demanding and the instructors were extremely honest and even strict.
Redmayne’s classmates were between 18 and 60 years old and all came from professional acting background. He was the only one who won an Oscar and the only one  to have starred in a billion -dollar film franchise, he felt like an absolute amateur (dilettante). This was the point, he wanted to start all over again to get naked and try to free  himself from all the tics of acting patterns accumulated in twenty years.
We are sitting in a suite hotel in Toronto, two days after his son Luke, 4 years old, finally started attending his school  in london, redmayne is a caring  parent and he wouldn’t  miss Luke’s first day for nothing to world, but soon he had to fly  to World Premiere of The Good Nurse.
Redmayne it’s been at TIFF five times and he said is thrilled to be back as well as to have the opportunity to face this particular chat “ I’ve never released a real interview” he says “ that of talking about  a movie you really believe in, is a rather rare occasion”
In  The Good Nurse, Redmayne plays Charles Cullen a nurse who killed as many as 400 patients during the 1990s and early 2000s  murdered his victims with insulin and other drug mixes. Today he lives in New Jersey  prison where he’s serving  18 consecutive life sentences. Cullen remains the most prolific serial killer in Criminal History.
Redmayne plays him as an affable  person, dressed in the classic cardigan, a nice guy, so to speak, but sequence after sequence emerges  more devil side “
“Charlie had really two opposites personality in him” said redmayne, who know him described him as “dissociated” and when this emerged his eyes went in different  directions, “ I spent about  three days in the mirror trying to” says laughing Redmayne “ in the end thought f.....and made my version”
The Good Nurse couldn’t come at a better time in redmayne’s artistic career, he had just finish playing the third part of FB as Newton Scamander, and he longed to act on a smaller set “ It was really liberating for me” Redmayne sais” After trying my hand at so many epic and impactful films that can certainly be fun and spectacular, but they make you lose touch with the human dimension and the intimacy of the production process of a cinematographic work”
Redmayne was struck by the script, loved it, much more when he learned that he was directing by Tobias Lindholm “ He has an extraordinary moral sense” says Redmayne  and Lindholm , in turn, has found a precious ally  in Eddie.
“ I think making a movie is like  being the manager of a football team” says Tobias “ and Eddie is definitely one of those players you would want in your locker room for sure on the pitch too, but this  qualities in the locker room are second to none””
When Redmayne learned that Jessica Chaistain would play Amy he was very happy, they never worked together. “ It can be embarrassing to work with friends, a workplace is a particular space, it’s different, you can getalong when you are with your family and then you clash at work”
According to Redmayne  he and Jessica have the same approach in the way to preparing their characters. “You have to do  a detective work, as accurately as possible” said Redmayne” “ then you throw everthing away and try to act alongside someone”
Eddie prepared himself  on Charles Graeber’s 2013 book of the same name, but also from the material he gave him, interviewa, court documents and this mean to study all the Cullen footage in circulation. The Ideal would have been to speak with him, but it was impossible. Redmayne just had a zoom with Amy, who today is a grandmother resident  in Florida.
Before plaiyng Cullen, Redmayne hired Reynolds ( Choreographer who helped him to  capture every specific detail of Hawking’s physical deterioration) which helped analyze and then impersonate the characteristic, step and posture of the nurse. “ It was kind of a question mark” says the actor  worked alongside a  vocal coach to refine the slight New Jersey accent.
With Jessica Chastain  Eddie attented a nursing school where they spent two weeks learning how ro effortlessly insert the picc line in the vein and hang  the saline bags.” I was just a total clumsy ironic, you would never want to see me running to your rescue in a moment of crises”
Such a thorough and obviously tiring preparation takes a long time. Not all actors do this. but in case of Redmayne its’s synonymous of seriousness  and also works like as a lifeboat or safety belt. “ Some need a short runway to take off, “ he explains, “ others need a long ramp, I must have a very long one”
In the book Graeber defines Cullen as self -deprecating and vulnerable, this description also fits stragely on Redmayne, the acotr often mentions never having attended  an acting school, and tends to describe entire career as a kind o happy accident. “ I don’t have specific plan” he says “ I’m just inprovising”
In fact, his words might even sound like a strange form of boasting.  Redmayne started, so to speak, from the top when he was only 11 years old, thanks to a small role in an Oliver production  portrayed by Jonathan Pryce and directed by Sam Mendes, Then, while still at Eton, he played Viola in a Globe anniversary production of Twelfth Night, starring and directed by Mark Rylance.  His first best-known film roles were Hawking and, a year later, transgender artist Lili Elbe in the film The Danish Girl which earned him, at the age of 30, several nominations for the most prestigious awards.  The Theory of Everything, for example, also earned him a BAFTA and a Golden Globe till to win the Oscar.  After these two films he seemed well on his way to becoming the answer of his generation of Daniel Day Lewis Ralph Fiennes
Participation in the 2016 film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has in a sense moved him away from that path. Suddenly, Eddie Redmayne found himself in the Harry Potter franchise, a high-budget production with big special effects, with big star like Jude Law, Johnny Depp and Mads Mikkelsen. What kind of preparation is needed to deal more deeply with the role of a Magizoologist? It is not possible to register for a crash course at Hogwarts. Redmayne does not express himself in these terms, of course. When he talks about the Harry Potter spin-off film series, he’s very accommodating and generous. "The moment I accepted to enter that type of universe," he says, "I knew I was ending up inside a mechanism much larger than me. He has given me so much and I have loved acting alongside some of the best and brightest actors in the world. The possibility of continuing to work with them every two years, in an industry that is nomadic and circus, has been an extraordinary experience of continuity ». An undoubted advantage on the human level he says, not necessarily at the level of acting. It has been a fun journey, but perhaps not the ideal place to continue learning. "The thing I'm sure of is that comfort and I don't get along very well," says Redmayne. "So I always try to go beyond the boundaries of my comfort zone." Fantastic Beasts has also been plagued by some controversy of an extracurricular nature: the scandalous views of J.K. Rowling on gender identity, Depp's libel case, the recent arrests of Ezra Miller and a drop in box office results. While Redmayne doesn't want to talk about all of that, the decision to focus on more intimate films like The Good Nurse is the best answer.
During our conversation , Redmayne reflected on his own creative ambiguity, his "cynicism" and "pessimism". When I ask him where this way of feeling comes from, he’s careful not to attribute it to any particular project, but he struggles to identify its true source. "Acting is a strange mix of control and freedom," he specifies, choosing his words. “When you start making a movie, you lose a bit the control . You become a cog. You can work on the script for years, but there comes a time when you have to give up on yourself and that's a complex thing, you know? At best, you do this with someone you trust and it makes you feel completely free. But it doesn't always work like that ».
If Redmayne has always worked hard, he has also, by his own admission, worked little. Now, thanks to Cabaret and The Good Nurse, he probably expects to work even less. "This year has served to make me more demanding," he says, bursting out laughing again. Unlike most artists, he doesn't really know what he'll be up to in the future. However, after finally working with a friend, he would like to do it again. Perhaps with one of his longtime British colleagues, such as Ben Whishaw and Andrew Garfield. Maybe with his Cabaret co-star Jessie Buckley. Or, dare, even in a comedy, the kind of film in which it might come in handy to have attended clown school. «I gave myself a move», he concludes, «and I rediscovered the love for my work that perhaps I had lost a bit».
