As [ ] went from child to young adult she was used to her fair share of men from every place asking for her attention. A human asking for her hand and giving her the bare minimum, a god, wanting to make her a goddess, or just simply flirting to warrant her attention. But alas to them all she gave them no leadway, keeping her same polite smile and overall sweetness to each and every person she dealt with. On a warm day in the heavens as she walked the sky castles grounds she ran into a farmhand, one she remembered worked for Demeter approached her hesitantly, his eyes wandering to the young maidens “U-uh M-miss [ ] right?” The male asked her , her eyebrow raising as a silent answer “Lady Demeter would like to speak with you, she need some help but she did not tell me exactly what” he said with a bow and soon turned to leave. Wondering what the goddess could want she headed to her ranch, watching the cattle and other animals graze. Suddenly the door swung wide, revealing the deity to her “[ ] my favorite niece how are you love!” The tall woman sing songingly yelled, hugging the wide eyed girl “Hello Auntie Dem, im quite alright! Uhm, what seems to be the problem? One of your hands came to get me” [ ] said as she took in the ranch home her harvesting aunt had, all sorts of gains, wheats, fruits and more spewed about in her living room “Ah yes! Your father told me how great youve become with your potions and mixes of herbs, being the daughter of Dionysus im not surprised! I told him to let you grow and do more now look at you, serving us gods and mortals alike!” Demeter went on, handing her confused niece a large apple as she took one for herself. Becoming her to a table by the window they both sat, eating on their fruit as she explained her issue.

“You see, i have a lot of cattle, different kinds, different kins and legacies, but im a bit stuck. My favorite mare, had a child a little while ago and he seemed to just be your average bull at first….but..as time went on he out grew his father, my prized minotaur bull and even his normal cow and bull family.” Taking a glance to the field they watched as the minotaur children and some sheep danced and played, other average cow cults running to join. Sighing Demeter continued “Hes a hybrid, my prized minotaur as his father and well, my biggest and prized heifer as his mother. He wont come out of the shed, doesnt deal with his other kind, minotaur or not. Hes around your age now, getting to be his prime but..he wont converse in the fields. "Oh, come on now Seonghwa. Don't be such a hard ass" San remarked giggly. Seonghwas gaze snapped to the man and opened his mouth to speak but Wooyoung interjected.

"We were just showing your lovely wife a good time," he spoke with a lopsided smirk, hand coming down to your thigh. And the Frist Mate followed the action with dangerous eyes.

You couldn’t remember anything when you woke up. You did, but your last memory was from the day before and you were out shopping and then the rest was blank. You look around the room you woke up in and you didn’t recognize anything. In fact, you knew something was off. You had a lot of questions and you didn’t know who to ask because you woke up alone and cold.

The door opened to reveal a man with brown hair and a dashing smile that seemed to lure you in. You were done for as soon as you saw him enter the room. It’s as if he knew his effect on you because he smirked when he closed the door behind him.

“Hello, darling.” He smiled. “You’re probably wondering why you’re here.”

You could only nod.

“You’re here because you belong here, darling. You’re meant to be with me and only me.” He said.

“I-I don’t even know you... sir.” You stuttered. You were nervous after all. You never met this man in your life and despite his handsome face, you knew you had a family to go home to.

He clenched his jaw and his demeanor changed. He watched as you got out of bed and grabbed your things by the side of the nightstand. “I have to go home now. Thank you for letting me sleep here.” You said politely before walking towards the door. You didn’t make it, though. He grabbed your wrist tightly and said through gritted teeth, “You’re not going anywhere.”

“B-But-”

“You’re. Not. Going. Anywhere.” He said sternly and pushed you back causing you to stumble a bit. You sat on the bed not knowing what to do.

“You want to go back to your family?”

“Ye-”

“They’re not your family. Or at least, you never acted like a family. Your family’s perfect for the people, but in reality it’s all scripted because you’re hiding the truth.” He laughed bitterly. “I see everything, my dear. I have eyes everywhere. I watch your family’s every move. Even behind closed doors.”

“Your father’s a man-whore; always having a young lady on his lap at bars. He spends his money on his side hoes more than he spends money on his wife; your mum.”

“Speaking of your mum, she’s a depressed alcoholic who can’t get her shit together. She smokes a lot and she puts on very heavy make-up to hide the bags under her eyes caused by staying up all night, waiting for your man-whore father to come home. The reason why she hasn’t left him yet? He has money and he has a job. She doesn’t. She’s a housewife and that’s all she wanted to be.”

You looked at him with a surprised expression because of all the information he knows. At the same time, you were scared of how he got those information. No one knew about it except him.

“Who are you?” You asked in fear, eyes glassy with tears.

“Next is your older brother; the druggie. Always high and always hanging out with the potheads in that sketchy alley at 6th street. Sometimes he injects the drugs in him and one day you found him unconscious on his bedroom floor. You and your mum took him to rehab and he’s been there since. You visit him sometimes, but it seems like he doesn’t change.” He continued.

You let your tears stream down your face and you wiped them away.

“And then there’s you: the forgotten child. Your father stopped acknowledging you as his daughter when you were 15 because you told your mum about his affairs. Your mum hated you for telling her the truth she already knew. Your mum’s motto is ‘ignorance is bliss’ and you ruined it for her. You never spoke to your brother because he was always high. The last decent conversation you had with him was that time when you were 12 and he was 15. After that, his life went downhill.”

“You tried your best to be the perfect daughter that can do no wrong but they failed to notice you. They only gave you money to shut up. If you think about going back there, here’s a little news for you, darling: they don’t care about you. Do you know who cares about you? Me. I care about you. That’s why you’ll stay here with me.” He finished.

“Who are you and how did you know all that?” You cried.

“Like I said, I have eyes everywhere.” He answered shortly. “Your family was never a family to begin with. Your father married your mother because she was his one night stand and was pregnant with your brother. Your father wouldn’t get his generous inheritance if he’s not married and if he doesn’t have a son as a first born. Your mother was his saving grace in terms of inheritance. You were an accident, my love. They hated you and you don’t deserve that.”

He walked towards you and kneeled in front of you. He took your hands in his and kissed your knuckles.

“I can give you the family you’ve always dreamed of; a family that didn’t pretend to be perfect because it’ll be perfect to begin with. We already live in a mansion with ridiculous wealth and superior security protection. The only thing missing is the family you deserve. But that’ll only happen if you stay here with me. I promise you, you won’t regret it.”

“I don’t even know who you are.” You said softly as you looked into his chocolate brown eyes.

He smirked, “Tom Holland, darling. I’m your family now.”

Poseidon and Aphrodite headcanons

because im trash and this would honestly be so cute. for @godsofhumanity

it's common knowledge that poseidon was one of the most vengeful gods of the pantheon

and aphrodite, while sometimes blinded by rage, is also one of the most human gods i think, because of her realm of love which gives her an certain understanding of emotions

so that balance, their bond of water (duh) and their love of spice and having fun (no i will not define that) already gives them ties

and the fact that i can't imagine aphrodite having an informal relationship with zeus

there's obviously a mutual respect and they'll help each other out if necessary but it's no friendship

and we can infer from the myth of psyche that aphrodite isn't really buddies with persephone either, seeing how she barely batted an eyelash at dragging the queen of the underworld into her scheme

there's not much for her and hades to discuss, besides the occasional date night she helps plan out but i doubt he wants aphrodite's help most times

hades is the god of the underworld and ruler of the dead but he's a man of fucking commitments whether it be romantic dinners or creating a horrible eternal punishment

i don't know if it's explicitly said, but I'm pretty sure that poseidon and amphitrite have an open relationship

we know that zeus and hera are most definitely NOT open, which is why hera is so angry at zeus every time he cheats

but my girl is never mad? she either doesn't give a shit or is extremely ignorant, which is stupid to even think about because she's the queen of the seas

which just makes sense for aphrodite and poseidon to fool around at least a few times

so like they wake up and amphitrite's leaning on the door sipping coffee and she's just like oh hey dite, you look great

amphitrite and aphrodite shares embarrassing stories of poseidon at breakfast and it's kind of hilarious because his wife is laughing with his bff who is literally wearing his shirt

sometimes he'll read romance novels with her

he ALWAYS complains at the beginning and talks about how cliche it is and predictable it is

and then, every time, he facetimes her a few hours later and he's either sobbing or screaming, with the occasional exception of both

there's movie nights when they just pile on top of each other with a few blankets and miscellaneous blankets and quilts in between

it's literally always romcoms, action movies or something really bad so they can make fun of it

"why is he sparkling, dITE WHY IS HE SPARKLING I DON'T LIKE THIS"

their go to is legally blonde and once poseidon breaks a glass vase from screaming so loud at warren

amphitrite makes him a paper crown and calls him queen bey, as in beyonce, for a week after that

they jokingly send each other valentine's day gifts and flirt the entire 24 hours to get a reaction out of ares

"whale u do me the honor of dining with you on this fine holiday"

"i dolphinately accept your invitation, good sir"

and then they feel bad so the day after, they set up date night for aphrodite and ares (poseidon, the waiter, puts on a clearly fake mustache and goes by an obnoxious french name the entire time)

*rips off mustache afterwards* "oh hey guys how's dinner going? sorry i just got here, did i miss anything?"

i think vetvimes have a rly interesting and nuanced dynamic. i’m all in for the memes, of course i am, but i don’t really ship it so much as i think vetinari/vimes/sybil have a rly interesting, basically canonical relationship, involving if not vimes w/ both of them, then all three of them with each other. i rly hope u dont mind bc im about to go off on one lmao.

i recently reread guards guards and what got me (and i know from a doylist pov it’s because pterry hadnt finalised the universe yet) was the inequality in vetvimes dynamic. vetinari pities vimes and holds him at arms length, and vimes is a very stupid but very earnest drunkard. he’s a pitiable figure when he asks for a small raise and a dartboard, and vetinari doesn’t take him seriously.

through men at arms/feet of clay/jingo we see the dynamic we know and love growing. it’s been a while since i’ve read them all, but im gonna get up some scenes that i think are super important to vet/vimes/sybil... and yes this includes the gonne scene. (:D)

so here is the scene right after vetinari is shot. here is really, imo, the first time vimes stops seeing vetinari as one of his Betters - vimes is in his element, calm even, and vetinari asks him what to do. vetinari speaks slowly, almost stuttering, and i read a lot of fear into that line “i appear... to be losing a lot of blood.”

and then vimes outright accuses vetinari of not doing the right thing. can you IMAGINE guards guards vimes doing something like that? vimes holds vetinari to account, and vetinari allows him. i also think it’s significant that this all happens at vimes & sybil’s wedding; we know sybil and vetinari are friends, old friends, and the wedding continues on despite the attack. vimes has time to save sybil AND vetinari, without sacrificing one for the other. that’s really the central point of men at arms: vimes doesn’t have to retire to have time for his wife and for the watch. he can multitask without losing either.

feet of clay is another important leveler book for vetinari and vimes. for most of the book, vetinari is slowly dying, trusting basically nobody but drumknott and vimes to come into his room - he does know what’s going on, yes, but he trusts vimes to not need his help to work the thing out. vetinari does stay ahead, and he does have the advantage, but he doesn’t feel the need to help vimes; he respects him, and treats him as though he’s on the same level as him. this is really important for vimes’ perception of himself going from drunkard to someone who has people relying on him, and as someone who can be trusted. in order for vetinari and vimes to have any relationship, they need to not only be on a level, but they both need to know they are as well. i think vetinari has no problem knowing this, but sam is very unreliable when it comes to an account of his own intelligence, bravery, and merit. i mean. he remains, right up until the end of snuff, convinced that he is a Bad Person who has Snuck Into Someone Else’s Happy Life and is waiting for the other shoe, yknow, so men at arms/feet of clay are important books for hauling vimes up onto vetinari’s platform so they both know they’re equals.

sybil is HUGELY important in this, and part of the reason i dislike traditional vetvimes is bc they just... idk, kill her off of make her horrible or just disregard her existence. sybil is the catalyst for literally all of sam’s development. without her he’s an alcoholic in the gutter. with her, he’s duke, commander, sir samuel, the man vetinari trusts the most. (dont disregard sybil, vetvimes ppl.)

in jingo, i think we start to see the vetvimessybil dynamic we’re more familiar with. vetinari trusts sam to play along with him, and he goes to klatch and does the whole sexy juggler thing and he allows sam to arrest two countries. he lets the lords of ankh-morpork raise armies, because he trusts sam. sybil trusts sam. vetinari trusts sam. vimes trusts both of them implicitly, even if he doesn’t think or say so.

fifth elephant might seem not that important, but it’s really big to note that at the beginning, vetinari and sybil appear to be conspiring to give sam a holiday. also, sybil calls vetinari havelock, and the only other person i can remember who calls him that is lady margolotta, his ‘love interest’. vimes turns to sybil as his last chance against vetinari, only to find that they’ve been in cahoots because they’re both concerned about his health (and about sybil) and doesn’t that sound terribly domestic!

then we come to night watch, and i know it isn’t a new opinion, that this is one of the big pivotal books for he whole series, but more than that it’s pivotal for the balance between vetinari, vimes, and sybil. the cigar case is the only thing stopping sam from going off the deep end - with love from your sybil, just to press the point - and it all happens in between the birth of young sam. vimes is motivated by love for his city of course, but he has a family now, and he drinks Loving His Wife Juice through history. vimes has already been through his character development; night watch is vetinari’s turn.

finally vimes is the wiser, superior, older mentor figure to vetinari’s bullied, presumably 25-or-younger self. he is already mature, with a tendency towards the dramatic, but i think it’s not really a reach to say night watch was vetinari’s gay awakening. and OH MY GOD the ending scene beside keel’s grave is etched into my memory. i’ll attach it even though i’m sure we don’t need it:

like, woah. what a change in dynamic. now vetinari is bowing to the whims of a vimes he can’t predict, and now vimes is the one telling vetinari off. this is his area of expertise. “afterwards we could-” vetinari has become accustomed to a world where he and sam do things together; it would be fair to say (and supported by the young assassin at the start of this book) that vimes is now firmly integral to the cogs of ankh-morpork. vetinari not only relies on him, but trusts him to be at his side without having to ask. vetinari respects him at this time, in this place, because he has finally seen the lengths to which vimes will go to protect his city, a dedication to a-m that only vetinari has ever expressed.

from there i think vetinari/vimes/sybil continue without much change. in thud, snuff, and raising steam they have settled into a comfortable give and take. i think that sybil ABSOLUTELY CANNOT be removed from the equation, because she cares for both vimes & vetinari - she is a formidable force when put into action (hello, army of letter-writers from snuff!) and we know she has the power to bully both men into taking care of themselves. imo she is the driving force behind any romantic action between any of the three of them, including herself & sam; remember how they got together in guards guards? she just sat him down with a cup of tea and talked and he realised that he’d somehow gathered a fiancee without realising it. sybil ramkin is DEFINITELY the unstoppable force to both mens’ immovable objects.

i think it’s perfectly expressed in thud. vimes can both read a story to his son, be a good husband to his wife, be a good commander to his patrician, and be a good watchman to his city, without ever having to sacrifice anything - because of the machinations of his wife and his patrician. (and his city and his son. i mean, that scene with the traffic and the high-speed bedtime story chase says it all.)

so those are my Many Many Thoughts about vetvimes, i hope that... wasnt too much over what you were asking me for lmao
