what's Crosscode? dunno what that is but i'm interested

SO. the quick synopsis is that it's an indie game where you play as a girl named lea that's playing in an mmo! she's lost her memory and the story revolves around her trying to recover it and figure out who she is!

in practice tho it's SO much more than that and it's a rly heartfelt story about friendship and identity, there's a BUNCH of twists that hit really hard in all the best ways

also seeing as you're a fellow undertale fan: the characters are fantastic and the humor is great, and it's also a really good deconstruction of the rpg genre (though while undertale focuses on classic rpgs, crosscode is moreso about multiplayer games!)

How to participate

The Rural Dionysia is meant to be a smaller competition than its urban counterpart, as such, we have selected only 3 categories:

Freestyle poetry

Modern hymns

“Complete the fragment”

Freestyle poetry

Your poem can be about any chosen topic (myth, personal experience etc.) in any written format. It doesn't have to be religious in nature.

Modern hymn

An hymn must sing the praises of a deity of your choice. Unlike the "freestyle poetry", your work must be of religious nature to fit in this category.

Complete the Fragment

Each year, we choose a fragment from an Ancient Greek poet to work with. The challenge is that the initial fragment must be included somewhere in your piece in its original order. This means you can fill the gaps however you want, but you can’t switch the order of the words in your piece or remove words from the original fragment.

Here is the fragment selected for this 2023 edition: Paen 16 by Pindar (52q Oxyrhynchus papyrus; late 2nd century AD; trans. William H. Race; Loeb 56)

Cellbit wouldn’t change his life for anything, laying his head on his fiance's lap, while they both rest under the shadow of a big tree, his eyes closed, enjoying the way Roier pass his hands through his hair, detangling it slowly.

He felt blessed by the gods, the destiny or however has decided to make him meet Roier, he feels complete now after meeting him, the love of his life, maybe that old myth about souls looking for their other half was true in the end, maybe they are one of that small percentage of people that found their soulmate.

They met one year ago in this same forest, he was practicing with his lyre near a river, he liked the place because nearly no one knew that it existed, so he was leave alone for whatever time he wanted, he didn't have a lot of free time now so it was a little bit of peace after all his investigations, he was blessed with musical and writing talent, his mom, Caliope, is one of Apollo's Muses was so it explains the origin of his talents, he liked to feel the connection with his music, make him feel at home.

He was engrossed in the sound of the lyre, not paying attention to anything more than the melody and his fingers stroking the strings, suddenly, he heard some steps near him, he looked in the direction of the sound to find a man standing next to one of the trees, he was using a simple tunic but the sword by his hip give away his profession, one of the soldiers, he didn't have a lot of muscle but looked quite athletic, his hair was brown and was put back by a bandana, his dark brown eyes were looking at him attentive, almost without blinking, while his mouth was a little bit open without making any soun, he was really handsome was the first thing he thought while watching the man.

When their eyes locked together, everything around them stopped and everything was silent, the only sound was their heartbeat in their ears, but that single look made everything feel correct, like every step they took in life was to make them meet in that moment, it felt like the Moirai themselves had tied them together, it was destiny.

They have been together since that day, they being a couple was as easy as breathing, they could speak for hours or spend time in silence only enjoying each other's company, they make their routine match so they can spend time together and they still were able to enjoy each other's hobbies alone and together without any problem, making them balance their time better, it was perfect.

All the people around them saw the same, cellbit has always been more serious and too focused on his own interests, investigations and researches was his passion, while music and poems were his natural talents by birth, he used to spend hours and hours reading papyrus after papyrus about everything he can't get, not even taking a break to eat or sleep, his sister and friends were always the ones to drag him outside for other activities or, at least, to sleep a little bit.

Now, he still spends a lot of time reading but he has a better routine thanks to Roier, he tries to accompany his fiance to some of his training and all his activities in the city, he being a soldier also has a lot of responsibilities around, so every free time they both have they tried to spend it together.

Suddenly, he felt a hand caressing his face slowly before feeling a small hit on his cheek, Cellbit opened his eyes and saw a face close to his.

"did you feel asleep pendejo?" Said roier while smiling at him.

"I was only enjoying some peace while thinking" he said with a lazy voice, looking at Roier's eyes.

"thinking about what?" Roier asked leaning against the tree still looking at him.

"about us, about the day we met, about our lives now" he said looking at the river next to them

"aw, are you feeling nostalgic now that we are finally getting married?" Said his fiance with a little grin on his face while looking at cellbit.

"a little bit to be honest and what do you mean by finally?" He said with a frown while playfully hitting one of Roier's arms.

"well, I was waiting for you to propose but you waited an entire month to do it, I was this close to propose myself" said Roier while pinching his fingers together.

"you should have, the result would have been the same".

"yeah, but I wanted you to do it" he said with a big smile while looking up to one of the amaranth close to them, Cellbit looked at it too.

The amaranth was their flower, it was present the moment they met and was also present the day he proposed, it was special, more because of its meaning, eternal love, the kind of love they wanted for themselves.

"Well, we need to get up Cellbit, we need to keep preparing everything for the wedding" Roier said while putting his hands under cellbit's head to make him get up.

"I wanted to stay here with you a little bit more" he said with a little frown on his face while helping his fiance get up.

"We can spend all our time together after we marry, for the rest of our lives" said Roier while hugging cellbit and leaning his head on his shoulder.

"I like how that sounds" he said while leaning his head against Roier head, hugging him closer to himself.

They both stayed that way for some minutes, just feeling each other, then they separated while holding hands.

"now, let's go, because everyone is probably waiting for us" said Roier while giving his fiance a little kiss in the mouth.

"yeah, I don't want Bagi to give me a lecture about punctuality and responsibilities" he said while walking away from their river.

Fandom: Trials of Apollo Rating: Gen Genre: Angst/Family Characters: Will, Apollo For his overnight vigil, Apollo raided items from his children's cabin. The next evening, Will found them again. TOApril day 27 - Missing Objects. This was a pretty broad prompt, but then I remembered the books Apollo basically stole from Will's bookshelf without any indication that Will know about it, and figured I could do something short and angsty with that... so that is hopefully what this is.

Will found them after Apollo and Meg had gone into the woods.

Maybe he should have found them earlier – it had been a whole day, he thought, since they’d gone, and there certainly wasn’t any excuse to have not tracked them down before he did – but he hadn’t.  He’d had other things on his mind, things like injured campers and missing siblings and a finally-sleeping mortal father, even if Apollo’s sleep had been restless at best.

He still hadn’t been actively looking for them when he’d stumbled across them.  There was a whole nest of things – a flashlight, blankets, a discarded but still full water canteen – but the ones that caught Will’s attention were the same things he’d first registered as missing the previous night, when he’d gone to bed in a cold and empty cabin.

Over the years, cabin seven had acquired a large collection of books on Apollo.  Will was pretty sure some of them had been written by long-gone older siblings, and at least one had the distinctive handwriting of Chiron.  Others were more modern, typed instead of handwritten, on paper instead of fading parchment, and even papyrus.  Cabin six might be known for their library, but they weren’t the only cabin with a god associated with books and learning and knowing things.

It was the newer, less fragile books that had gone.  The ones Will kept on a bookshelf near his bed, rather than the ones more securely stored in with the instruments, the one remnant of the head counsellor’s nook before Lee had converted it into its current instrument storage.  They were the ones Will had once learnt stories of his dad from, guided by Lee in his teacher-mode, and sometimes some of his other more knowledge-inclined older siblings, and the same ones Michael had used to try and teach Austin and Kayla, although with difficulty, because Michael could teach archery but he wasn’t so good at books.

Will had used them, since, to teach younger siblings that thankfully weren’t at camp right now, safely back with their mortal parents and hopefully away from the disconcerting danger that was once again invading camp.

He didn’t know why Apollo had taken them with him for his vigil.  Surely he didn’t need to read about himself.

Will tried and failed to forget how much Apollo had cursed his mortal memory, implying so heavily that he had given up on subtlety and blatantly told them that he couldn’t remember much.

The thought of his father sitting up all night, wrapped in a blanket – gods, Will hoped he’d wrapped the blanket around his shoulders instead of just sitting on it, or giving them both to Meg – reading books about himself in the faint glow of a single flashlight in a bid to relearn about himself was a painful one.

How much of his sense of self had he lost?  His personality was rawer than Will was used to, pubescent mood swings to match the teenage body while his words meandered all over the place, from a hurt and defensive child to glimpses of a protective father Will remembered from private dreams.  It was a much fuller picture of his father than he’d had before, where dream visits had been short enough for Will to know that his dad loved him, and that his dad was very good at being an idiot, but in hindsight not much else.

Now, he felt like a person, which seemed almost blasphemous to think of a god, except Mr D was familiar and showed signs of depth, sometimes – if not as much as Apollo had shown in the past day and a half since he’d woken up.  The problem was that now that he was thinking about it, Will didn’t know if he was actually seeing Apollo.  There was no fakeness to Lester, not that he could tell, but if Apollo needed to read books about himself to know who he was, then could Will really believe that Lester was his dad?

Or at least, that Lester was all of his dad?

It wasn’t something he really wanted to think about.

He knelt down and picked up the books.  Apollo had left one open, looking abandoned in a hurry – maybe when Rachel’s helicopter had arrived, because Will knew better than to hope his dad had actually fallen asleep last night, even if his mortal body had needed it.  Will carefully didn’t look at what was on the page in question, feeling like knowing what, exactly, Apollo had wanted to read and perhaps relearn about himself would be too much.

Sometimes, ignorance was better.

It was easier, safer, to close the book without looking before adding it to the small pile of other books and moving on to folding the blankets.  He kept his movements methodical, lining the edges of the blanket up exactly before making each fold, until he had two carriable squares of blanket draped over one arm, flashlight and still-full water canteen tucked into the crook of his elbow, and the books in his free hand.

If the blankets ended up on his bed that night – the second night alone in a cabin that was never meant to be so empty – and the books open on his pillow after lights’ out with the flashlight to read by, well no-one else was there to prove it.

Whenever I read something about Cross, he remind me of scaramoucher.

I just image Life was there in Cross life but she had to leave him because of her duty. Just like Ei, she left without explanation.

Idk who is Cross dad in this but I am guessing it's X Gaster. So when life leave those two, X Gaster decided to abandoned Cross. Also who is Cross little brother? Is it X papyrus too??

Also, I have the feelings Cross remember who is his mom but didn't know she's a goddess and left to protect the heaven and the earth at the same time. Cross then do whatever he want since he seems not to get any consequences from it but it's just Life who watches over him, forgive his sins and protect him from any dangers.

I do not know Life so much but you did mentioned Life wanted to have a family. Even if Cross commit the biggest sins, she still forgive him because she feels like it's her duty as a mother

He was an art major in college and now I am an art major. Crazy. Ace Attorney really helped me get through 2020 (A worldwide lockdown is a GREAT time to play a bunch of 20+ hour long games) and Phoenix was my favorite character since day one. When I was considering a different name to go by I was considering Phoenix for a little bit because of this fucker. He's also just a really good character?? I'm the person people come to irl with questions about Papyrus. My friends call me the Papyrus Master. I did not ask them to do this. Hey guys how is a skeleton that's essentially a couple balls attached to a stick so gender btw??? Anyways I was mentally ill about Papyrus BEFORE it was cool /lh. I still find it very funny that people were shocked when Papyrus was my favorite character back in 2015 because Sans was catered specifically towards my interests at the time and I really went "Yeah he's cool but look at this guy instead."
