"Are you warm enough?"

He had asked you this multiple times, his fingerless-gloved hand holding your bare ones. Both your arms swayed slightly as you walked further into the forest, and your fingers stayed connected.

"Yes, Mingi," you giggled at his repetitive question. He was being very sweet today. Making sure you were all warm, wrapped up cosy with a big scarf on. He offered you his gloves but you said you were finally. You would settle for holding his hand instead, which sat warmly in yours.

"Mingi..." you started, a quizzical look on your face as you looked at the two paths ahead of you.

You were both faced with signs that you hadn't seen before. Signs which pointed different ways, telling you different locations. But where were you going...

"As we lost?" You questioned, releasing his hand and walking up to the wooden sign to have a closer look at the directions.

"No," Mingi automatically said, his stubbornness spiking free before he could even take in his new surroundings.

But his new surroundings weren't really 'new.' Everywhere in this damn forest looked the same. No landmarks, no fields, no benches. Nothing but mud and trees and leaves scattered all around.

"No, we're not lost," Mingi decided again, walking up to the sign that you were staring at, "we're exploring."

You snorted at his statement, "Okay, Dora the Explorer."

Despite your humour, you were a bit unsettled by the fact that you and your boyfriend were stuck, in the middle of nowhere, both of you hopeless with directions.

"Come on, this way," he grabbed your hand again in his, tugging you along with him down a path which led to who knows where.

You found yourself following him instead of protesting. It was easier that way.

Besides, it felt nice to have his warm hands back in yours.

For the artwork post: I think anything ancient greek would be so awesome (I'm a classics major) with dinluke, but if you want a specific reccomendation, I would say the vase painting of Achilles and Patroclus, where Patroclus is bandaging Achilles' wounds. Did you notice that when Emma comes back to the lodge while everyone else (minus Jacob) is at the cabins/radio hut/poolhouse, she calls multiple times for Ryan, Abi, and Kaitlyn, but doesn't once call for Dylan or Nick?

Yes I HAVE noticed that! Partially because my ears perk up at mentions of Dylan like he’s my crush or something lmao. But the omission of the two of them is kind of glaring.

This is SO interesting to me though, I’ve actually thought about it a bit before! It makes sense for her to call for Kaitlyn and Ryan as the de-facto leaders of the group, right? And Abi because they’re besties and possibly secretly in love.

Emma’s a smart girl, maybe she knows that she will find Dylan if she finds Ryan and Nick if she finds Abi because she knows they’re following their crushes around like lovesick puppies. Or maybe she assumes that Dylan and Nick are off doing something useless like getting high and eating picklecicles in the walk-in. But either way, she definitely isn’t looking to either of them to help her out. And who could blame her really? We’ve discussed Nick’s whole… deal. And Dylan has so far likely not proven himself to be capable of more than comedy relief in front of Emma.

She also may be hesitant to even mention Nick if she thinks Abi will hear because, well, that didn’t go great. She doesn’t know Nick is injured either so she’s not thinking to be worried about him.

do you have any study tips for people who struggle to get As?

this is a great question !!! long ranty post ahead~

my first two semesters were 3.0 semesters, but i recently made president's list with a 4.0, so i definitely can try my best to throw some advice yall's way. however, i am a good test taker if that makes sense, so i don't know how useful this advice will be.

first and foremost, go to class. as someone who's biggest hurdle was A) just fucking attending and B) just fucking doing that 5 point assignment, you'd be surprised how much of a difference that shit makes. i used to slack in the small areas like attendance and small assignments, and then study extra hard for exams, and even though i'd do well on them, it wasn't enough to get me the A.

and thats because i firmly fucking believe you don't have to get As on exams to get an A in the class! at least 3/5 of my classes last semester I didn't get a single A on an exam, only high Bs. but i went to every class and did every assignment and that truly made the difference. for example, my friend and i got ~basically~ the same grades on all three exams in consumer behavior, but because he didn't do half of the hw assignments that were worth 12pts each, he got a C and i got an A.

also, going to class is the first step, but actually paying attention is the second one. i don't usually take notes during lectures, because, for me, taking notes actually makes me learn less. i get so focused on trying to write or type fast enough that i lowkey just miss every single point being made. the best way for me to actually learn something in a lecture is by just listening to my professor. sometimes in my head i feel like its a waste to just sit there and listen when i see other people doing other assignments mid-lecture, and i feel like i could be getting a lot more done, but at that point its like you arent even really *attending* the class if you are just doing other shit. like, can you really even say you went to class if you didn't listen to a single word being said?

last little cheat pro-tip-- look up the grade distribution of your professors before taking them. you'd be surprised how the grade distribution for one professor can be mostly B's and C's, but for a different professor it's like 95% A's. for the same fucking class.

so, in short, go to class, listen in class, and make sure you aren't losing points to stupid homework assignments. i know it seems really obvious and kinda stupid, but this is what actually helped me go from 3.0 -> 4.0.

beyond that, it's just a matter of studying. which i haven't exactly mastered, but would love to drop my tips if you guys are curious!

A very specific headcanon ask for the entire The Quarry gang, but what is their bedtime routine (do they even have one, or like what kind of "pyjamas set" do they like to go for) ?

Realized this is less routine and more habits but erm here you go

Abi: She does have a pj set, very princesscore, fluffy and soft, and she sleeps with a million pillows and a million plushies, and bundles up in blankets like she’s going to die from frostbite. When she’s sleeping with her bfs, she uses less blankets but thats just bc Jacob is practically a portable heater and she’s usually stuck in between them

Emma: Usually sleeps in her bra(sometimes she’ll swap it out for a tank top bc ow) and underwear bc she doesn’t care enough to have pjs, but if she has friends over, she’ll add a tank top and shorts. She sleeps either with the windows open or a fan running just to have some breeze on her

Kaitlyn: she is the biggest night owl, mostly due to her caffeine intake throughout the day. Girly is so tired, Emma needs to force to her to sleep sometimes. She wears an outfit similar to her workout outfit, just optimized for sleep so her tibbies aren’t in pain

Laura: No routine. Sometimes she just forgets to sleep until the sun comes up. Esp post-game, she’s tried medication to help her sleep, and usually just takes a couple melatonin before bed, hoping that it works. She wears nightgowns, owns dozens of them

Max: Bro cannot stay up for the life of him. Occasionally he’ll try to stay up with Laura, but she sends him off before he passes out. He sleeps with a quilt that his grandma made him, and sleeps with socks on, much to all of his friends(excluding Jacob) horror. He’s a little spoon but only because he’s already asleep when Laura lays down and is usually facing the wall

Jacob: sleeps in nothing but boxers. He doesn’t care who he has over, he’s not sleeping in a shirt(not that his partners mind). Little spoon in a big spoon’s body. Bro just wants to be held but wtf is abi supposed to do??? she can’t even get her leg over his torso. Nick will gladly spoon him tho. He is known for moving around and hitting people in his sleep. Also sleeps in socks regularly

Nick: I’m sorry but he has one of those blue and white striped pj sets with the fucking lil hat and matching slippers. He goes to bed whenever he wants, but no later than 2 am. He falls off the bed haha idiot

Dylan: He has a pj set, matches with Ryan’s, he just forgets to wear it. Sometimes he’ll go to bed in jeans bc if he’s worn them all day he doesn’t even think about it, they’re just part of him now. Is cursed with night owl and early bird tendencies, and really only goes to bed on a decent time bc of Ryan. Would rather die than go to bed without his teeth brushed, he just feels icky if he doesnt. A total little spoon

Ryan: Has an entire routine, times for everything, etc etc. If even one thing is changed he will be upset and he will probably cry a little. Goes to bed early and forces Dylan to join him bc he can’t go to sleep without cuddling him. Refuses to ever sleep in socks or anything heavy/thick. Wears his matching pjs sometimes but thinks they’re kinda goofy. Also shares a weighted blanket with Dylan

After exchanging pleasantries with an old colleague, James found his eyes drawn to her. Lily stood at the other end of the hall, looking stunning in her navy-blue backless dress, her hair done half up. The smooth expanse of her pale skin shone in contrast against the dark, silky fabric under the golden lights from the crystal chandelier. She took a small sip from her champagne flute and, even from the distance, James observed the way her tongue glided slightly over her lower lip, licking away the stray drops.

James quickly downed his wine, placed the empty glass on a tray and made his way straight towards her.

"You look gorgeous," he said, treading an arm around her waist. Lily smiled, raising her head and James placed a quick kiss on her lips. Better to keep it short when in public.

"Thank you," Lily said. She slowly moved her hand down from his shoulder to his chest, stopping near his pinned boutonnière and tugged gently on his lapels before withdrawing her hand. "You look great as well."

James smiled. "Not as beautiful as you." When Lily made a sound of annoyance, he raised his eyebrows. "What?"

"You say all the right things!" She threw her arm exasperatedly before sipping her champagne. "It's so frustrating."

"I'm sorry," James grinned, shifting his weight onto one leg, "I didn't realise I was being frustrating."

"You are." Lily nodded seriously. "First, you enter the hall and every pair of eyes are on you - no respect for the fact that you are out of bounds - and you look this good-" her eyes did a cursory glance from his head to perfectly polished shoes, "-that I can't even blame them for looking. And then you go take off your coat and mix a bloody cocktail for the bosses. Folded sleeves and all..."

"I didn't realise I was being watched," he said, winking at her.

"Oh, It's ridiculous. I said 'hello' to all the old lecturers and then sat with some friends for a while," she sipped her champagne again, "but I had to go away because I was getting so turned on."

James laughed, looking around to see if anyone was near. "You are talkative when you are drunk."

"I'm not drunk! Just slightly tipsy, is all."

"Hmm..." James pulled her in closer and tested the waters by inching his fingers closer to her open back. Lily sighed when he drew tiny circles on her skin with the pads of his fingers but pushed him away soon.

"I was already all hot and bothered when I came to the party," Lily said.

"You were?"

Lily hummed. "I couldn't stop thinking about you when I was dressing up. And about all the things you would do to me."

James swallowed thickly. "Lily..."

"I know! It's very frustrating," Lily repeated, not looking at him. "I almost called you up because I really wanted you, but I refrained."

"You can't say things like that in a work party," James gave a breathy chuckle.

Lily pouted sadly. "I know," she said, straightening his tie. "I can't wait for you to be inside me."

And with that she walked away, leaving James to be standing frozen in place, hot under his collar, her final words reverberating inside his head.

Hii! Do you maybe recommend any fanfictions that maybe are centered around John or Johnigail? 🫶🏻

Hii, yes I have a few I really like<3

this night has opened my eyes by pinkchem91 is one of the few multi-chapter fics I like. It's centered on John and his struggles, but it doesn't victimize him or vilify Abigail, which I love! I think it's one of the few johnigail centered fics that depicts John properly. The writing is also amazing. It features some jovier, but I recommend it even if u aren't interested in that ship bc it's just that good!!

now I bend like a willow thinking of you by vittoriaisfuckingpathetic is a really sweet oneshot. I like the dynamic between John and Abigail here. They also have another fic called take my hand (don't fear the reaper) that is very good.

25 Days of A Cowboah Christmas by Zana_Zira is another good multi-chapter one. It features charthur, vandermatthews, and Johnigail depending on the chapter. All around a very cute fic!

looking at me by honeydreadful is another good oneshot. It takes place pre-Jack, which I am always fond of in a fic.

Here are just some general fic recs that aren't necessarily johnigail centered:

The Pretender by biiitchofCambridge is a modern charthur fic, but it features some really good johnigail moments. I am obsessed w it!!!

Arthur Morgan's Journal by saiyan_druid is another modern charthur fic, but it focuses heavily on John and Arthur's relationship. There's hints of johnigail and vandermatthews in it too.

ghosts and people by the_ocean_weekender is an old fic that I really enjoy. It's a fix-it fic w Arthur and the Marstons focused on Arthur's TB.

Bury Me With You by krhjfuirhgr is about Jack following Abi and John's death. I recommend it if ur looking for some Jack Marston angst.

Sorry this turned into just a general fic recommendation, but I'm pretty sure all of these at least feature some johnigail. There aren't many Johnigail centered fics I've seen (and like), so if anyone has any recs lmk!!

there not enough discourse around being ace and preferring not to talk about seggsual content even in clean situations. some of my friends (who are even a part of the aroace community) don’t understand this.

(sorry this is probably going to turn into a rant)

last week my aro friend and i were discussing sex and i used relatively clean or minimally detailed terms to talk about it because that’s just what i prefer but they straight up said something along the lines of “why are you acting like a 12 year old” (we’re both adults).

they know i’m ace. but that doesn’t seem to be reason enough for me to prefer not using explicit terms/language??

i feel like there’s a lot of talk about aces who may also have sex or aces who make sex jokes.

what about the aces who prefer to not think or talk about sex because it makes them uncomfortable?

tbh i think there should be more discourse around it.

why am i being compared to a child under the guise of “it’s normal to talk about sex as an adult”

i’m just mad that this kind of stuff is still going on today, even among people who claim to be educated on aroace identities.

I want to actually reply to this one, as an asexual who's friends thought they were so oblivious as to have never seen what a penis looked like. As in. Never even saw a picture. ALL of our friends are virgins, not a bad thing, and I was the one singled out. Because I was vocally uncomfortable talking about sex. So you know what I did? Complete 180, everything is a sex joke, everything is phallic. Because I was SO tired of being singled out. A lot of asexual people are adults, some who have had sex, a large amount who have consumed sexual content in some way (in movies, on TV, through fandom, through books) and even if we choose not to, we should NOT be treated as innocent children for it!!! We should not be CALLED children for it!!!! It's. Excuse my language, it's fucking disconcerting!! You have to have so much cognitive dissonance to speak to me the way I speak to the eight year olds in my classes.

It's so incredibly wild that an aromantic said that to you too, that's not okay. They of all people should have enough exposure to the ace community, and the aroace community, to understand why that is such a fucking stupid thing to say. Sorry. I'm so ANGRY about it!!!! I'm so angry about arospecs and acespecs being socially engineered to think like this too! I'm so angry about how people treat us, even the ones we love or respect! We are not kids! Not having sex doesn't make you a child! Not having a relationship doesn't make you a child! Neither of these traits should define your humanity or your adulthood and if they do that's a problem, even in allo people!!! Can the world stop being so fucking stupid about reproduction!!!! Holy shit!!!!!!

Let’s have Nick bullying hours! (Or just talk about him without bullying, but how could we possibly??) How do you think he ended up in this job, cooking at a camp in New York, all the way from Australia? What’s the weirdest shit he did over the summer? If we switched someone else out for him as the wolf bait, who should it be and what would he do in their place?

gods please, i love bullying this weirdo

so i do think a lot about how he got here & i have a minor hc that his parents have a pretty demanding job with cushy salaries & he moved in maybe middle school/early high school (bc he has NO clue how to talk to Humans, or maybe he was homeschooled). if Jacob misses the qte to catch his phone, Nick is immediately like "i'll pay for that, im so sorry". obviously he SHOULD, he broke it, why does he do this, but idk it just sticks with me. i would never risk someone else's property, ESP bc i could never afford to replace it if i fucked up. idk. Nick is fucking weird. anyway so i think his parents moved to New York for their job & he's breaking out of his shell, going to camp with other young adults his age

over camp, he's a fucking nightmare. at least ten kids are in on a bet that he's an alien. two others are convinced he's possessed. sometimes he just stands over whatever he's preparing for dinner, completely still, staring at the food without blinking. it doesn't even look like he's breathing. five minutes later, he's totally fine. he sings different words to the camp song every time & it's never the right ones. sometimes he eats raw onion when he's chopping it up. he's never tasted sweet potato. he also stores jars of marinara in the freezer. one counselors swears to god they saw him snap a twig in half between his teeth during a nature walk & another one says he ate a whole acorn

if we could wolf-swap someone, i do think it would be interesting to actually see infected!Abi. the conflict between her, Nick & Emma would've meant a lil more maybe if instead of getting pissy, whiny, aggressive Nick, we could get choices & steadily see Abi get more forceful about if he rlly likes her, asking Kaitlyn why she made that dare when she KNEW what would happen, starting to speak up for herself before it gets too far & she turns (& decapitates nick <3). maybe that's basic but both of those characters felt kind of wasted so :( swapies :) also i feel like Abi should've gotten an opportunity to grow more than just "nervous & unsure & hiding" beyond choosing to either shoot or die

in her place, Nick for sure wouldn't shoot, he's a bitch. (just kidding. kinda.) but honestly i don't even know what he would do. Abi doesn't get to do much but hiding the storm shelter doesn't seem like his thing either. if Emma's in the van, all four of them prolly go to the scrapyard together, which kind of changes the whole thing

I'm on a four hour car drive, singing at the top of my lungs (terribly, I'm so congested right now, not gonna stop me though lol), and having quarry brainrot. Who among the counselors do you think can sing well and who do you think can play an instrument?

I looove this question and I have to admit I haven’t thought about it that much so this is gonna be kind of off the cuff, instinctive stuff and I’m sure I’ll refine my opinions if others chime in (please!).

It’s kind of weird we never get any campfire singalong action in the game when there’s a guitar in Chris’s bedroom and he mentions Kumbaya, but maybe they’re tired of that from camp by the time the plot line picks up.

Miles obviously is a musician and Dylan’s the music guy so I’d imagine he’s musically inclined in some way. I’ve seen headcanons that he plays guitar and I could see that but I lean more toward thinking he would have taken piano lessons when he was younger and moved on to keyboard and adding on techie stuff like the Mellotron and Moog synth. I think he loves dials and buttons and weird sounds and he can sing but he’d rather fuck around in the noise. Any instrument he plays is gonna get a bit sad if he loses his hand but maybe he’d get more into sampling and remixing and looping computer generated beats as a result.

I think it would be funny if Jacob had a surprisingly angelic singing voice that was completely uncoached and no one ever expected out of him, sort of like Finn from Glee (RIP) but less auto-tuned. I think he’d be an acoustic guitar guy for sure just for the romance of it. Anyway, here’s “Wonderwall.”

Kaitlyn does not strike me as particularly musical though I headcanon that she and Jacob slay karaoke together. She just kind of shouts into the mic like a 90s riot grrl and sings Alanis or Joan Jett and kills.

Abi is so high school marching band nerd coded to me and I feel like she’s a total flute/piccolo girlie or else clarinet/oboe. Or maybe she plays violin in the school orchestra. Something sweet. She’s good but too nervous to perform or audition in front of people very much so it’s just a hobby she shares with people she trusts.

Emma I think would have a perfectly nice mid range singing voice that she’d wish was better. She probably started her influencer career recording Taylor Swift covers for YouTube but she’s a much better actress and dancer than she is a singer. Not quite triple threat material but she believes in herself so she’s trying.

Ryan has such a unique voice that I can’t decide if he definitely can sing or if he’s practically tone deaf. I kind of lean toward the latter. I imagine he hates his singing voice and rarely sings even for fun but if Dylan catches him singing or humming he’s like smitten times one million about it. I could see Ryan playing drums though, I’d imagine he has a good sense of rhythm.

Max, on the other hand, cannot carry a tune but sings ALL THE TIME anyway. And Laura cringes but finds it endearing all the same. He probably plays the ukulele. He just seems like the type.

Laura was a choir kid for sure and probably got solos in school plays and Max was accompanying her on ukulele and playing unnamed roles or else he was painting backdrops or something. We know Siobahn can sing and I feel like that would carry through with Laura for sure. I imagine them doing elaborate musical routines together on car rides even with their vastly different musical abilities.

Nick reminds me of a bassist I know who is maybe the weirdest human being alive. So that’s where I see him. He can sing a little but it’s definitely a backing vocals voice. I feel like he’d be in a stoner jam band just fucking around, playing the same song for an hour while both the band and audience are too high to know the difference.

Chris Hackett obviously plays guitar and Travis accompanies him on harmonica. Bobby plays blowing air over the lip of a jug and also cowbell.
