Don’t ever forget that in this pandemic
Tumblr media
It took Captain Tom Moore, a 100 year old veteran, to raise money to fund the NHS, a tax funded health service that was in such a dire state it probably would not have made it through this year without donations.
It took a premier league footballer, Marcus Rashford, to make sure millions of children did not go hungry over summer when the government decided that spending £10 million pounds to feed them was a waste of money.
It took the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and hundreds of other innocent people to highlight the racial inequalities and police brutality in this country and across the world.
It took protests and riots across the world for English people to learn that Churchill was racist, that Francis Drake was involved in slavery, that racism is still very much present in society, and that this country and society, and many others, were built on atrocities and crimes.
It took a worldwide pandemic to show that key workers are often the workers on minimum wage just managing to scrape by, with many relying on food banks to survive, whilst putting their health at risk every day throughout this pandemic.
It took underfunded school staff to support children across the country, making sure they still receive quality education and support when the lack of funding and preparation from the government would have seen them fail.
It took volunteers across the country to make sure the most vulnerable in society had the support they need.
It took the closure of businesses for people to realise how little help there is for self-employed and small, local businesses.
Our government proved themselves to be the most incompetent possible. They were happy for children to starve, racism to run unchecked, the NHS to be underfunded and sold off, for people to struggle on, only just surviving. They don’t care.
So when all this is done, don’t tell me that Boris has handled Covid19 well. Don’t tell me that it would have been worse under any other party. Because we’re not under the governance of any of the other parties. The buck stops with our current government, who have been in power for a decade, and yet stood by and did the bare minimum when their people needed them most.

I just heard my entire street and more clapping outside. Ashamed to say I’d lost track of time, so I wasn't able to get out on he doorstep in time. But I opened my window and stuck my arms right out to cheer and applaud. Our NHS is struggling and I just hope beyond hope more people will do their bit to help ease this. I hope they can get through this and get the rest and reward they deserve when this nightmare is over. Especially as we could peak within a fortnight. I’m scared and upset, but apart from one last shop, I hope I can stay home until my birthday on the 26th. Those heroes working in the NHS, out on deliveries, behind the counters, saving all of us. The applause is one thing, but it’s not enough. We need to play our part and take this seriously if we hope to save lives and help them save lives.

Clapping for the NHS 👏
So tonight at 8pm GMT the people of England were called to come together to show our collected gratitude for the people who are currently working on the NHS frontline in order to tackle the coronavirus.
People were asked to stand at their window at 8pm and clap their hands to say thank you to all of those who are currently working in order to help save lives!
It was such a surreal experience hearing the silent nights air suddenly broken with a large round of applause, whoops and cheers. It shows that everyone is thankful to those selflessly working through this in order to help others.
I don't know how many other people across the country participated in the event but on my street people were a little shy to begin with, as it was a very British affair of ' who starts this?' then all it took was one person to clap and the street filled with cheers and applause.
This is something I have never seen before, and even though we were all in our homes it somehow felt more connected than ever. Neighbours waved and shouted out to each other 'd'ya need anything just shout!' at a time when everybody is freaking out, panicking and fretting about what tomorrow will bring, it's nice that collectively, we stopped thinking of ourselves and instead showed our appreciation to the people who only think of others.
I just wanted to personally say thank you to the NHS doctors, nurses, admin, careres and cleaners. You are doing amazing! ❤️

I thought I was fine and then I heard people in town clapping for the NHS, for me and my colleagues and it got to me.
Our neighbour across the close waved at us, somebody set off a fire work and we could hear this distant applause from town and it was lovely.
Thank you if you clapped tonight, that might well keep some of us going in the coming weeks.

A Little Bit of Hope
Last night during our ““Clap for Carers” in the UK, (which happens every Thursday at 8pm throughout lockdown), a beautiful double rainbow appeared - although I only managed to capture half of one.
Within the UK a lot of children have painted or drawn rainbows to display in their windows and the rainbow has been used as a symbol of hope. This seemed very fitting last night during our clap when two appeared at once.
I love to see rainbows at the best of times but yesterday evening this really instilled a ray of hope into my heart. We will get through this. This won’t be forever. We all reunite with our friends, families and colleagues soon. We just have to hang in there, stay strong and remain positive. 🌈

Self Care in Isolation
It’s a hard time right now for most countries, most places like Paris are on complete lockdown and the UK on partial lockdown, in this post I can only speak of what I am experiencing (UK) please keep this in mind when I mention any of the rules/ laws at this moment in time including social distancing and shopping conditions.
Self care is important on the day to day but at this time more than ever it is important to utilise a little time for yourself. isolation, quarantine and social distancing is hard for everyone especially those living alone right now, which is why it is a good idea to check in every now and again on your mindset.
Below I will list the top tips I have been using to help in these difficult times, please keep in mind that if you are overwhelmed, depressed, feeling anxiety or stress to speak to a professional, don't let it get out of hand. There are studies that suggest just 2 weeks in isolation can contribute the the start of a few mental health disorders, so please seek help when needed.
Tumblr media
Go for a walk
I know most people are saying to go outdoors when you can but trust me staying inside the entire time you are in isolation won't help your mental health, in the UK you are only meant the go out once a day for exercise, utilise this while you can and go for a walk, breath in the fresh air and clear your mind, just a 10 minute walk around the block will help.
Meditate
This was a difficult one to start with, I never used to meditate but there are plenty of studies showing the benefits of meditation for mental health and wellbeing. Personally I try to aim to meditate in the mornings, most mornings. Meditating can be hard when starting out so using apps can help a lot, maybe try the app ‘calm’ I use this still even just for the crackling fire sounds.
Skin Care
Now what type of self care list would this be without skin care! I love having a brew with a face mask on, watching my favourite TV shows/ films. I’ll make a post with my top skin care products and tag it here.
Keeping a routine
This is so important but can be the most difficult, if you are not working at the moment and have been furloughed or if you are self employed and have no work, it can be an incredible shock to the system. If you think about it the average person works 8 hour days, Monday - Friday, going from this to nothing is difficult, try to get up in the morning and get dressed properly (no pj days all day every day) follow your usual routine for example: get up, dressed, coffee and breakfast and so on. It will be hard but if for a week or so you slip a little, you are allowed to, don't beat yourself up, just step back and start again. As long as the routine is there it won't be as big of a shock.
Exercise and healthy eating
I can't tell you enough how much exercising and healthy eating changes my mindset for the better, don't get me wrong since all this started I have been eating a bit more unhealthy than I used to but making sure you are eating whole foods and exercising does amazing things inside and out. Most gyms are posting online classes now and there are some amazing YouTube channels too so use them, whether you enjoy HIIT classes or yoga, just make sure you try and do something when you can. Healthy eating is key to, make it fun and exciting by researching new recipes and trying them out, it can be both satisfying and fun!
Above all take care of yourself, keep social distancing, stay inside, catch up on your favourite shows, watch them films you had no time for, keep in touch with your family and friends. We are all in this together and need to help each other.
Stay positive, Stay motivated
Lastly, I just wanted to end by thanking all the health care workers, doctors and nurses that are risking there life and working incredibly hard to keep us all safe. If your are in the UK please don't forget #clapfortheNHS every Thursday at 8PM
Stay safe x

#Repost @bbcscotnews @download.ins --- Scotland has once again paused to clap, cheer and pipe for our NHS staff, carers and key workers. From a care home in Grantown-on-Spey to the new NHS Louisa Jordan hospital, people clapped - as has become the weekly tradition on a Thursday at 20:00 - to pay tribute to those workers helping the country during the coronavirus pandemic. At Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, after they had clapped, they also paused to remember those who have died from coronavirus and those who are grieving for a lost loved one. #clapfornhs #clapforcarers #clapforkeyworkers #clapforthenhs #coronavirus #covid19 https://www.instagram.com/p/B_V8OHKBsTD/?igshid=1qrd68ai170sx

Special birthday painting today! 🥰 ✍🏻 I painted this as a present for my sister, who turned 25 today! Happy birthday gorgeous lady 😘 Also big big thanks for all your hard work and for putting your life on the line over the past few months (my sister has been working as a doctor in intensive care in a London hospital during the pandemic) 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 ✍🏻 I finished most of this painting in two days, and then spent weeks fretting over the details 😂 Luckily she liked it! In case y’all were wondering, the main reaction was: “This is weird, I’m not used to seeing portraits of me!” 😁 ✍🏻 Hope you’ve had a lovely day 😘 ✍🏻 #artsygirl #birthdayportrait #happybirthdaysister❤️ #portraitpainting #digitalportrait #digitalpainting🎨 #dailyarts #paintedportrait #isolationcreation #quarantineart #creativemind #nhsheroes #clapforourcarers #clapforthenhs https://www.instagram.com/p/CB_LoEfhuMU/?igshid=1ij6aov7jyrd

#GrandmaBetty takes #ClapForCarers very seriously. Each week she tests a different method of making noise as she finds it awkward to clap with her arthritis.
