The funniest part about the lightening thief is the fact that everyone was like "I don't know who Percy’s godly parent could possibly be" like they all really gaslit themselves even after the fact that the dude
a) had a powerful enough scent that chiron took time off to pretend to be his latin teacher
b) fought a minotaur with zero training and no weapons
c) drenched clarisse and her gang in toilet water
d) beat luke in a swordfight after drenching himself in water
e) was literally only good at canoeing
f) kept saying his dad was "lost at sea"
literally 5 minutes into the camp and Percy was all like
Percy: Maybe my dad is Poseidon his cabin feels like home -
Grover: No
Annabeth: No
Chiron: No
The whole camp: No

OK in advance of tonight's other episode, couple of thoughts on the Percy Jackson tv show's adaptational choices:
i haven't actually seen anyone flag this one up yet (it's a fairly subtle change and i know a lot of ppl haven't read the first book in like 15 years so maybe everyone just forgot?) but in the book the reveal that Percy's mother is still alive drops a lot later in the narrative. book!Percy heads out on his quest fully intending to bring her back from the dead. which imo is a stronger narrative beat & it makes the reveal that she's still alive and he was right to think he could rescue her that much more satisfying.
on reflection agree w the comments i've seen re the other kids should have knelt to Percy after he was claimed. actually saw complaints about this before reading the book so was surprised at how fleeting a moment it was but it really does serve to accentuate both what a big deal a Forbidden Child is and that Percy is an outsider even at Camp Halfblood
as per previous post yes it is explicitly stated in the book that Chiron suspect Percy was the son of Poseidon and i think omitting that was a mistake given the number of ppl i've seen picking up on it
in 2 minds about the omission of the hellhound bcos it is a pretty important plot beat and a cool scene but i can see why they wouldn't want to do a CGI monster fight that was technically extraneous
ALSO Annabeth having mistakenly concluded that Percy was a child of Zeus was a good character beat in terms of her being smart enough to figure out he was a forbidden child but not infallible. and maybe also biased due to her previous relationship w Thalia.
that said i enjoyed her shoving Percy in a lake too much to really complain.
changes i think are for the better:
i think having sending Medusa's head to Olympus have actual Consequences was a good move 👍 unless im missing something due to not having read the rest of the series. i was surprised reading the book that in spite of Percy getting warned not to do it there wasn't any fall out.
i don't think the scene w Percy petrifying one of the furies was in the book either? cool moment!
PLUS having Athena be petty enough to pull that shit was like. very on point for a Greek god flkghfdkj
really enjoyed Echidna getting introduced earlier. amped up the tension in a big way AND kept me on my toes, i was there like ohh is this a different monster? are they moving her fight scene to the train? what's going to happen here - OH NO
Echidna bringing up that the gods and the 'monsters' are all a single family was also 👌great scene all round
likewise Percy & Annabeth BOTH trying to sacrifice themselves for the group loved that. don't think this was necessarily an improvement as the book scene was good in a different way but really good moment
*slow hand clap* consensus!!

Luke Castellan x Fem!Athena!Reader Synopsis: Reader has a special bond with both Luke and her godly mother, so when Luke joins Kronos, her head starts spinning in confusion on what to do anymore Warning(s): angst. and uh swears ig Word Count: 4314 A/N: I was inspired from a Tumblr post that was inspired from that one Gilmore girls scene😛😛 the post, I mixed in some show and book moments, sometimes just can't decide what hit harder. love them both💔 ugh why did I yap?? Part 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You and Luke were perfect for one another. Like two pieces to the same puzzles. You were childhood sweethearts and everyone knew it. If you told yourself a couple months ago what had happened, you would've laughed so hard your lungs might've collapsed. This was not a happy ending, though it could've been.
˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥౨ৎ
It was an average summer evening at camp half-blood. Normally you'd be busy helping Annabeth prepare for capture the flag, but she insisted on doing it herself. She always thought it would help prove herself more and more to your mother, Athena. You and your mom are quite close, you both talk a lot. You make sure to tell Annabeth that she already has faith in her, but she still feels the need to do this, maybe it'll help her get the quest she's been dreaming of.
Since you're close with your mother, Athena also knows of your long-lasting relationship with Luke, the Hermes head counselor. At first she didn't approve, she thought her daughter could do better than a son of the god of thieves, but she knew she couldn't change it so she let it go. Well sorta, she always gives a slight diss about it every now and then.
Now it was the day of capture the flag, and you had the newcomer Percy Jackson on your team. Annabeth whisked him away as part of her plan while you and Luke fended off the rest of red team. And for the fourth year in a row, your team won at capture the flag. You and Luke were celebrating with the rest of Athena and Hermes cabin, when you heard yelling from behind you.
"What is wrong with you?!" You turned around to see that a cut up and bleeding Percy was yelling at Annabeth for pushing him into the water. As he stood up, you and everyone around you noticed that his cuts began to heal, but before you could question it a symbol appeared above his head. A trident.
"Poseidon," announced Chiron. "Earthshaker, Stormbringer, Father of Horses. Hail, Perseus Jackson, Son of the Sea God."
All the campers in the surrounding area stood in shock, but congratulated Percy non the less. You stood there with a big smile, happy he was claimed after spending the entire day before being somewhat of a, well, failure at all camp activities.
"Luke! Percy got claimed isn't that amazing-" You turned to look at your boyfriend, but didn't see him smiling the way everyone else was. His expression seemed different. It was a look of curiosity beyond him being a child of the big three, more as if Luke seemed.. upset? He had a grudging smile hanging off his lips, you were confused but shrugged it off.
The next day at around 10AM you were sitting with Annabeth as she raves to you about how she's finally found the one. And by the one, she means that Percy ended up picking her to go on the quest with him. Annabeth goes on telling you about the quest, about how she has to recover Zeus' lightning bolt before the solstice in a week, she sounds excited but you can tell she's nervous.
Your conversation was interrupted by a knock at your door. You turned and saw your handsome boyfriend, Luke, coming to pick you up.
"Mind if I steal her away for a little?" Luke asked as he smiled at your little sister. She just sighed.
"Fine, bring her back at a reasonable time though. Last time you brought her home at 2AM half the cabin woke up." You and Luke started laughing.
"Annie you were the only one awake," you leaned forward and kissed the top of her head, "I'll be back soon to say goodbye." And the two of you were off.
Whenever the both of you had free time like this you two would head off to the strawberry fields. There aren't always many campers by the fields at once, so you and Luke would just grab and bunch and walk around through the forest before they noticed the missing strawberries. Most campers don't go there for the fear of monsters, but with Luke being the best sword fighter this camp has ever seen in years, you liked your odds. You guys decided to sit by where Percy had gotten claimed the day before, the sound of the ocean is just so calming.
"The Demeter kids really know what there doing with these strawberries," Luke groaned as he took a bite out of one of them.
"I think its in there job description," you both just chuckled and continued enjoying not just the strawberries but each others company. Not many opportunities for being alone lately. Then you remembered the look on Luke's face when Percy got claimed. Why wasn't he happy for him after all the time he spent helping him get claimed just the day before?
"Hey Luke, can I ask you something?" You yourself weren't sure if you should bring it up, but something in your gut was telling you too.
"Of course, you can ask me anything."
"Well, yesterday when Percy got claimed, how did you feel about it?"
"Hmm? I was happy for him, sucks he's gonna have to stay in that cabin all alone though. Why do you ask?"
"Yeah.. well I don't know when I turned to you, you just seemed kind of upset?"
"What? Why would I be upset?" Luke started smiling like you were crazy. Hey, maybe you were just seeing things.
"I don't know, maybe I'm just going crazy. Oh what would my mother think of her legacy losing her marbles," you giggled to yourself and turned to Luke, he was laughing but it felt like the mention of your mom hit a nerve. He knows she isn't his biggest fan so that's probably it. You both moved on and continued like normally till the lunch bell went off, which was your sign to start heading back. You both split up and sat at your cabins table with this rest of your siblings.
"Hey Annie," you greeted as you sat in the seat next Annabeth.
"Hey your back," she smiled. "I'm leaving after lunch."
"Better make this lunch count, you're probably not gonna have so many good ones out on the road," you joked. You're not really joking though. You remember back on the times when you and Luke were on the road with barely enough to eat, not fun times. You stopped thinking about it and continued to send your last moments with your dear sister before she goes off her on her dangerous quest. Please gods, mom, let her come back safe. You both finished up and walked over to your cabin and helped her finish packing up.
"I gotta go pick up Percy now."
"I'm coming with you? I'm spending all the time I can with you before Percy and Grover take you away from meee." Annabeth just rolled her eyes at you (you could still see her smile though) as you both walked over to the Poseidon cabin. When you walked in you saw Luke talking with Percy. He was giving him something.
"Hey Percy, watchu got there?" You asked as you leaned on the door frame.
"Some.. converse? Pretty cool.." He looked to Luke to see if he got it right, you just smiled knowing what the shoes really were.
"Maia," Luke said, and the shoes grew some wings.
"Yup, pretty cool shoes." Luke smirked and the two boys stood up and started walking toward the door. Percy stood next to Annabeth and you leaned in and gave them both a hug.
"Come back safe you two," you looked Percy up and down, "no funny business either."
"Haha very funny, we're not like you and Luke," Annabeth rolled her eyes, AGAIN.
"Roll your eyes at me again and they'll get stuck like that." Percy decided to stay silent, which you thought was funny. And just like that, they were off.
You pretended to wipe a tear from your eye, "They grow up so fast," You turned to Luke who was smiling down at you. You couldn't help yourself and just threw your arms around him and kissed him.
As you days went on, you still had that nagging feeling in your gut that something was off. But this time you just decided to ignore it. Questioning Luke got you no where so maybe you were just overthinking it.
The night before the trio was supposed to return, you were instantly pulled into a dream. You were standing back in the spot that you and Luke went to regularly by the water. Except it wasn't any normal dream, it was a demigod dream. And how did you know? You were currently standing next to your mother, Athena.
"Hey mom." You waved, she just nodded back.
"Hello Y/N."
"Soo.. what's up?" Normally you wouldn't be shocked of her appearing in a dream, but this time she had an extra amount of seriousness clouding her features as she continued to stare at the ocean.
"That Luke of yours, he seems off doesn't he?" You wanted to deny it, but you knew she was right. You couldn't help but just nod. "You get your instincts from me you know. I'd take it as disrespect for you to not trust them."
"But mom, I don't even know what it is that's bothering me. What am I supposed to do? Question him from a look I'm not even sure was on his face?"
"If you're not sure, why's it still bothering you?" You went silent, she was right. Mother knows best.
"You've never liked him, is that it?" You accused.
"Excuse me but this isn't a matter of me liking your little boyfriend, it's a matter of whats at stake right now. You saw the look on his face when that forbidden kid was revealed. And what was with that gift, hmm?" Athena was saying so much yet so little at the same time. This is one of the few times you've felt so useless, and it just had to be in front of your mother.
"I-" You looked down at your feet, ".. mom can't you just give me a clue, just once can you help me out here."
"You know us gods can't interfere," she stared daggers at you, and you started getting nervous, more than you already were at least. "I know you're smarter than this" It suddenly dawned on you what she was accusing Luke of, but you know he wouldn't do that, right?
You looked back at her, "He wouldn't."
"You really believe that?" You faltered for a moment.
"Of.. of course I do." Your mom just closed her eyes and shook her head.
"I thought you were smarted than this. I can't believe this boy has left you so blind." And with that, Athena and the setting around you started to disappear. You tried reaching out, trying to say that you are smart, but everything went black.
You shot up from your bed in a cold sweat, you were panting heavily. You turned over to check your alarm.
[6AM]
You looked around to see everyone still asleep. You knew you wouldn't be able to fall back asleep so you just went to go take a shower, wash off all the sweat and think. When you hopped in you just stood there under the water. You couldn't shake the conversation you had with your mother. Luke hadn't left you blind. You've known him for years, you knew him better than anyone. Especially better than Athena.
You got out and got ready for the day. This was the day Annabeth, Percy, and Grover were supposed to return. You tried to think on that instead, the positive. You hoped it was positive at least. It was now around 7:30AM, yes you took that long getting ready, what about it? You had a lot of thinking to do in the shower, and cool enough this was also the time Luke wakes up. You made your way to the Hermes cabin, watching the early birds, or Apollo cabin, sit around making haikus (every now and then they'd make a good one).
You snuck your way into the Hermes cabin, seeing everyone was still asleep. You tip-toed over to your boyfriends bed and kneeled down beside his bed, faces leveled together.
"Hey," you started to softly shake him awake, "Luke wake up." You made sure to whisper so no one around would also wake up. Luke started to stir awake. He softly groaned and rubbed his eyes before opening then. "Hey there gorgeous," you winked.
He chuckled and whispered back, "Hey beautiful." Morning voice is actually so hot. Luke sat up and pulled you up and into bed with him. You tried not giggle too loud as you snuggled closer to him. You were so close you were breathing in his scent. And there it was again, your gut feeling telling you something was wrong. After that conversation with your mom the feeling just got even worse.
"Luke," you laid on you stomach directly next to Luke, who was laying on his back, "aren't you excited? Percy, Annabeth and Grover come back today." You smiled, and so did Luke, but his smile didn't reach his eyes the way they normally do. What's up with him?
"Yup, excited to see them again." Morning voice didn't sound as hot when he didn't sound that happy to see them as he said he was.
"You don't sound that excited."
"What?"
"Luke are you hiding something?" He shifted for a split second, like he wasn't expecting such a question.
"From you? No, never." You felt uneasy, but what could you even do at this point. You can't go ballistic over an instinct.
"Fine, but you should really brush your teeth."
"You woke me up?"
You just laughed and got up from Luke's bed as he left to go get ready, and brush his teeth from that deadly breathe of his. When he walked out the bathroom in his classic orange camp Half-Blood t-shirt, you knew it was time to head out for breakfast.
As the day went on, you were anticipating the arrival of your fellow campers, mostly your sister. You loved her dearly and missed having her around. Despite her being a few years younger, she was one of your best friends. And finally she was back, and without hesitation you ran up to her and pulled her into a hug.
"Annie, you're safe!" You hugged her tightly as you both swung side to side.
"You crushing me," She groaned and you pulled away holding by the shoulders.
"You survived the underworld, you can survive my hugs." You looked around then noticed something. "Wait, where's Percy?" Annabeth looked a little worried.
"We found the master bolt despite it being past deadline. Percy went to give it back alone."
"Kids ballsy," you scoffed. "Or he has a massive death wish." Annabeth laughed softly but you could tell she was nervous. "Hey you guys made it this far, he'll be fine." She just nodded and looked up and you.
"So, wanna hear about the quest?"
"Uh, duh? And don't think mom didn't tell me about the tunnel of love." Annabeth tried looking at you with her intimidating face that read 'shut up or else' but it doesn't work out very well when she's blushing. "She said and I quote 'get your sister away from that reckless water boy'," you quoted while waving around your finger, Annabeth just groaned loudly and walked off with you laughing as you followed behind her.
Annabeth started explaining the story. Clarisse was the lightning thief? Ares covering for her would make sense but you don't know, something didn't add up.
"Yeah we called Chiron but Luke answered, he said he'd tell Chiron about it." Why didn't you know about this? And you knew Chiron definitely didn't either, so what the hell? You were cut from your thoughts when you heard cheering outside. You and Annabeth ran outside and saw Percy walking back to camp. You turned and saw Annabeth eyes go wide and run up to Percy, you saw her whisper something but didn't think much of it and went over to Luke, who was also watching the scene.
"Isn't it cool he made it back" You asked Luke.
"Amazing." Percy and Annabeth were now walking by you two, gesturing for you to follow them, which you did. As you looked over to Luke.
"Why didn't you tell me the Lightning thief was Clarisse." He swallowed.
"Oh, just slipped my mind." And he flashed you that smile of his, it doesn't looked as genuine any more. And now you four were standing in an empty Hermes cabin conspiring. You just zoned out of the conversation. Mom, please, this is the first time I wished you were wrong. Don't hold it against me.
Luke disappeared for a little bit, and to our understanding it was to inform Chiron of who the thief really was. Then, he disappeared with Percy into the woods. You were a little nervous, Luke made a new sword, Backbiter, made of both celestial bronze and steel. Hopefully there sparring would be fine.
Oh how wrong you were.
While alone in your cabin, you were organizing the mess of books when you saw Luke rushing through the doors.
"Luke are you okay, why the rush?"
"We need to talk." You were confused, but weirdly felt sweat a single drop of sweat fall from the back of your neck.
"Of course, whats up?" You said as you slid the last book onto the bookshelf and turned toward Luke.
"Remember our quest together, all that darkness and the monsters growing stronger. Don't you think all this is useless. How we're just pawns for the gods in this silly game they should've been over thrown from years ago-" Luke was rambling.
"Luke.. slow down. What are you saying? What do you mean over thrown?"
"I mean, the only reason their still around is for us, and even then they still don't treat us with the respect we deserve."
"Luke, that's our parents you're talking about. They're trying their best."
“That’s supposed to make me love them? They're killing the world and don't even seem to care. We need to start over, that's what he's been telling me in my dreams."
"Luke, what the hell are you talking about, whose 'he?'"
"Kronos." Your eyes widened, you couldn't believe what you were hearing. this couldn't be true.
"Luke, he's brainwashing you."
"No he's not. He's opening my eyes to the truth. In all the time I've been here, my dad sent me on one quest, a quest that's already been done. And I come back with this!" He angrily pointed at the scar on his face. "And all I got was pity. That's when he started speaking to me. That's where I got the ideas."
Your mouth went dry and your knees started to wobble, you couldn't believe what you were hearing. "You.. you stole the master bolt and Hades' helm, didn't you."
"And it was so easy, the gods are so full of themselves they wouldn't ever believe that someone would steal from them. And ares wouldn't have been easier to turn on my side." You didn't even recognize the man standing in front of you anymore.
"Why are you telling me all this?"
"Well, I can't continue keeping secrets from my dear girlfriend. I'm here to take you with me. Your beautiful brain is the last piece I need."
You wanted to cry. The thought was tempting. You saw how kids got ignored, how the unclaimed flooded the Hermes cabin, how most kids never hear from their parents, and how kids of minor gods don't even have cabins. You loved Luke with all your heart, you didn't want to leave him. You knew your choice.
"Luke, this is wrong. You have to know you can't just over throw the gods. They are your family."
"You're the brainwashed one here Y/N, you have to be if you can't see I'm right." He turned for the door, but you caught his wrist.
"You can't start a war like this. So many people will lose their lives." You were pleading with him. He turned to face you.
"It's the only way the gods notice, I have to go now. Last chance, are you coming with me or not." Tears were threatening to escape your eyes.
"You know I can't. I can't betray my mother." Tears were falling from your eyes, and you saw one fall from Luke's as well. He leaned and kissed you deeply and pulled away.
"Then this is goodbye." He rushed out your cabin and left you in tears. That was the last kiss you'd ever have with him. He was so gone and you didn't think you could bring him back. And that's when Annabeth came running and yelling.
"Percy's in the infirmary close to death, hurry!"
And so you wiped your tears and hurried. And there he was, a greenish grayish color with a lump on his hand.
"What the hell happened to him?" You asked worriedly.
"Looks like a pit scorpion bite, we won't know more till he wakes up." Chiron said.
Annabeth turned over to Chiron, "So did you interrogate Clarisse?"
"And why would I do that?" Chiron asked.
"What are you talking about, didn't Luke tell you she's the lightning thief?" Annabeth said.
"No he didn't," they both turned to you, looking more confused than ever. "He didn't snitch on Clarisse because it wasn't her. Luke's working for Kronos." You voice was cracking and Annabeth and Chiron both exchanged looks of worry.
"Here we are again." Percy said. Annabeth turned around and called him an idiot, ah. Young love. You feel bitter now but whatever.
"Percy. Explain everything now." And he did. He explained Luke's plan, the same one he explained to you, and how he said Percy couldn't be there and had the pit scorpion sting him. You then explained how he tried to recruit you and was now gone to who knows where. It went silent.
"I need to be alone." You excused yourself and went running to your cabin. The second you made it to your ned you collapsed and you immediately sobbing. This was Luke, your Luke, and now suddenly he was working with Kronos?? You just couldn't believe it.
As weeks went on, you became worse. You can never bring yourself to leave your bed unless absolutely necessary. Your friends and family around you started getting worried, they tried so much but nothing seems to work. At camp, you were the sweet older sister people came to for advice, now you were the girl who could barely say three or more words at a time. It got harder when Annabeth left, normally when she's gone the head counselor job would be handed to you. Of course, now that can't happen in your state. You're losing sleep and couldn't be bothered to make your self look presentable.
After about three months, you put yourself to sleep and you were pulled right back into a dream. You were standing in your special spot with Luke, and how bad you wanted to wake up but you couldn't. It was your mother who brought you back here.
"He's never coming back you know." You could barely cry, your eyes were dry. You stood there without saying anything. "I knew I never trusted him."
"Yeah because you always have to be right about everything don't you?"
"You better watch how you speak to me." Athena glared down at you, normally you'd be scared but you couldn't care less right now.
"Why, whats the point? Why are you even here? To what, rub it in my face that you were right about Luke?"
"I'm here to talk some sense into you. You're a daughter of Athena, you should be thinking with your brain, not your emotions. Yet that's the problem, you're not thinking clearly. Your ruining yourself over some guy."
"Mom," your voice was cracking. "please."
"Please what? You're grown enough to know right from wrong. Luke was just a man, nothing more nothing less." And somehow, some tears started to flow.
"No he wasn't," your voice was barely higher than a whisper.
"Speak up, you know how I feel about mumbling."
"He was more than just a man, mother," you were just barely yelling.
"Oh really, what are you saying to me? That a man who can so easily betray the gods and everything you stand for is the man for you? The love of your life? The man you would've married and had a family with?" Athena's words dripped with condescension, and it made your blood boil.
"You know what, yeah. He is, or was, or whatever. And I don't care what you have to say about it. Any future advice you have? Keep it." You were now yelling.
"Watch yourself, you might regret this. No daughter of mine will speak to me like this."
"No mother treats her daughter like her emotions don't matter, you just see me as another pawn to do your bidding. Get me out of this stupid fucking dream. NOW!" You demanded.
Athena looked at you with a face you couldn't decipher, before letting you go. The dream went black and you shot up awake just like the last time. Athena opened your eyes, just not in the way she hoped. What you knew? She didn't care about your emotions, just your ability to carry out her duties. Luke was right, and it pained you. You didn't know what to do, or who to stand with anymore.

You were a mistake.
There was no alternative way to phrase it, at least not in the eyes of your godly mother, Hera. You were conceived in a fit of jealousy; your mom wanted to get petty revenge on Zeus for some clueless error he made. And so, within the blink of an eye, she transformed into a mere mortal and seduced a random man, otherwise known as your father.
When you stumbled into camp, bruised and bloody from a Cyclops attack, not a soul expected you to be the malicious goddess's daughter. Hera was loyal to her husband, even claiming multiple times that she forebode affairs, only allowing Zeus to commit the unfaithful acts. However, while she may have been the goddess of marriage, her extreme jealousy overpowered them all.
Which is why she detested you. You were a symbol of her errors, a constant reminder of her regretful affair.
You had a total of two interactions with her, the first one being her claiming of you and the second one being a spiel about how she resented and wanted absolutely nothing to do with a ‘disgrace.’
She was the reason you were so alone your whole life. There were no siblings to talk with, no mom to spend time with, and no father who could actively be present. In fact, the cabin hadn’t even been furnished when you arrived; no one thought your mother would commit infidelity.
With no bed to sleep in, at least until the one Mr. D ordered online arrived, you stayed in the Hermes cabin, a place welcoming to all. You were fourteen when you met Luke Castellan, who had already been claimed by his father and who generously made you feel included. He stayed up with you on those late nights, helping to calm you while you vented about your neglectful mother, and he saved you a spot at the picnic tables when no one else would.
From that point on, you and Luke had formed an incredible relationship. Even after you moved back into Cabin 2, you remained close friends. Seeing that you were the only daughter of Hera, you joined Cabin 11 for the daily activities, which only amplified your connection with the boy. Eventually, with the help of your friends, Chris and Clarisse, Luke worked up the courage to ask you out. You happily obliged, and ever since then, you have been dating.
Four years later, your bond with the boy was admired by nearly all. The two of you were a symbol of hope—that even in the pandemonium of demigod life, you could find love. As you grew into young adulthood, you became a profound woman, one with elegance and kindness, despite the hauntings of your past.
With Luke by your side, you began to love the simple joys life provided. You cared for the campers like your own kin, in hopes of providing the external fondness you were never granted as a child.
You and Annabeth became as close as ever, bonding over the experiences Camp Half-Blood provided. Her flawless skills in battle proved she didn’t need any protection, and yet you were always there to guard her from the dangers life presented. While Annabeth was reticent to most, after many weeks of being friends, she opened up to you.
You had that welcoming effect on nearly everyone, helping arrivals settle into their chaotic lifestyle. Which is how you ended up being chosen to complete a treacherous quest along with the new camper Percy, the satyr Grover, and your honorary little sister, Annabeth.
After packing the evening before departure, you headed to say goodbye to Luke. You both knew that the trip would be dangerous, with a chance you wouldn’t return, so you decided to relish in each other’s presence by the lake, just in case.
He sat on the dock while you lay in his lap, gently stroking your scalp as you watched the sun set and paint bright colors atop the sky.
“I’m gonna miss you.” You spoke up, breaking the comfortable silence.
“It’s only ten days. I went fourteen years without you; I can manage a week.” He said, smiling softly while looking down at you.
“Yeah. Ten days is nothing. I’d wait a hundred years for you.” You agreed, mirroring his expression. While you chatted, the colorful sky eventually faded into a deep blue, signaling that your time by the lake was coming to an end.
“Cmon, everyone’s asleep by now.“ He alerted you, standing up and offering you a hand. You accepted, interlocking your fingers and walking back to the cabins.
“Can I stay with you tonight?” You pondered as you strolled to Hera’s cabin. Sure, it was against the rules, but you just wanted to spend the last night with him. And what’s the worst you could do while surrounded by twenty other children?
“Course. The campers owe me a favor since I took them to the lake last Friday, so they won’t snitch.” Luke replied, changing course to the Hermes cabin.
Sleep came easy that night as you laid on Luke’s chest while his hands rested on your waist. Leaving the next morning was hard, but with the words from last night still present in your mind, you left with a smile.
The mission was nearly impossible, with monsters chasing you around every corner. After traveling to (literally) hell and back, you finally arrived back at camp.
Campers lined up cheering; a whole festival was planned for the victory brought by Percy. While most would miss the warm, safe beds in the cabins or the hot showers, you only craved one thing: your boyfriend. One short Iris message during your trip wasn’t enough. You wanted to listen to him blink, to listen to his hands soothe, to listen to his heart beating.
And so, within minutes of your arrival, you had found yourself embraced in Luke’s arms. All of your worries pertaining to the Lightning Thief faded away as you ran your fingers through his curls, your knees practically buckling at the sight of him.
“I missed you.” You whispered into his ear, swaying side to side as you hugged him.
“I missed you too. Camp hasn’t been the same.”
“I’m here now. We have all the time we need.”
“There’s too many people around. I found a new spot in the woods if you want to join me, and we can talk about the quest.” He spoke softly, his tone honey-sweet.
“Lead the way, Castellan.”
And so he dragged you deep into the secluded woods, the final location remaining a mystery as you hiked through hundreds of tall trees. The walk was suspiciously long, but with him, time seemed to fade away, and you grew blind to the flaming red flags.
Finally, you reached a clearing, surrounded by luscious greens. You both sat down, leaning your head on his shoulder as you glanced up at the stars. He was silent most of the journey to this unusual destination, just listening to you babble on about everything that happened during your time apart. And his nonverbal attitude didn’t disappear as you sat down, but this time you joined him in the comforting silence while staring up at the stars.
Gazing at him through the moonlight, you watched as his deep brown eyes lit up with a feeling you couldn’t determine. Curious, you queried what roamed his mind. “Whatcha thinking about?”
“I’m-“ he let out an angry sigh, pausing to gain composure. “I’m tired of the gods treating us like shit and getting away with it.” His indignant behavior staggered you, but Luke was prone to these fits of loathing after speaking to his neglectful father, so you assumed that’s what caused his wrath tonight.
“I know, and I’m sorry. Rough interaction with your dad again?” You tried to ration, hoping to calm his resentment, but instead it seemed to irritate him more. His jaw clenched with fury as he snapped at you.
“Why are you apologizing? Don’t defend the gods. They’re ruthless idiots who won’t even spare a glance in your direction.”
His cruel words made you question everything, praying this was just a dumb prank or something not as serious as he was letting on. Quietly, you asked what he meant. “What are you.. What are you saying?”
After a long pause, he looked away from you and spoke up. “I want you to join me. To join Kronos.”
Your heart sank upon his confession, and you scooted away from him frantically, standing up and trying to brace yourself for whatever he was going to do next. He lifted himself off the ground after you, taking a baby step closer.
“Kronos? You’re joking, right? Luke, please tell me you’re joking.”
You made eye contact with him, realizing that the mysterious tint in his eyes was now readable. It was hatred, pure evil.
“No. I can’t stand to watch them carelessly prance around while their children suffer. I’m standing against them, and I want you to be by my side.”
You grew vexed and infuriated that he was ruining your years-long relationship for some stupid dream. “Are you kidding me? I’m not joining you.” You snarled.
“You’re choosing them? Over me? You’re choosing your mother, who has ignored you your entire life, instead of me. Instead of us?” He growled, approaching you as you trudged backwards. For the first time in your life, you were scared of Luke. Scared of the man you loved.
“I’m choosing my friends at Camp Half-Blood. My family. What about Annabeth? And Percy? Do they know?” Thoughts of Annabeth finding out one of her closest friends was a traitor flooded your brain, hurting you more than Luke’s words ever could.
“No, not yet, at least. Why won’t you stand up for what’s right?”
“You’re starting an unwinnable war here. Tell me, do you really think you could overpower them?” You replied, fuming with anger towards him and the gods, too. And if we’re being honest, you were mad at yourself, too. Mad at yourself for still loving him even though he was hurting you.
“I will overpower them. With or without you.”
“You're—you're really leaving?” You questioned, and the rage dissipated.
“I have to.” He demanded, looking down at his feet while clenching his eyes shut.
A wave of memories washed over you, and suddenly, you didn’t want him to go. You wanted the boy who picked you the freshest of flowers—the boy who came knocking on your bedroom door at night, just wanting to chat.
“Please, Luke. We can forget all about this and go back to living our lives.” You pleaded, your bottom lip quivering as you fought back sobbing.
“It’s too late now. I never wanted to hurt you, Y/N.”
“Please don’t leave. I was alone my whole life before you, and I told myself I liked it that way, but I don’t. I don’t want to live a life without you. I can’t.” You choked out through mangled sobs, and his demeanor shifted to one of guilt.
“I’m sorry, but it has to be this way. And I can’t let you leave here and spoil my plans before they even start.”
The air became thick as he finished his sentence, and your tears subsided, freight replacing the sadness that lingered deep in your heart.
“What does that mean?” You entreated. Was he going to kill you?
“I love you. Maybe in another universe we can be together.” He said this, fleeting into the shadows.
“Wait! Luke, you can’t just leave me here!” You yelled, attempting to run after him, but he was nowhere to be found. You stood alone in the darkness of the woods, with no clue as to how to escape the woods.
Every fragment in your body was telling you to give up, to let go, and to sob. To silence out the cruel world and lay on the earth floor, to wait for your impending death, from the freezing cold temperatures or one of the hungry monsters that lurked in the night. But the thought of Luke getting away with this and letting him escape untouched fueled you. You hiked out of the path you came from, praying you could get back to camp alive.
Eventually, you met the forest ends, stepping foot into a camp that was blissfully unaware of Hermes’ boy’s plan. You shoved through crowds of partying teens, eager to find Annabeth and Percy and warn them.
After searching through every crook, you spotted them talking to Chiron. The look of concealed misery on the young girl’s face told you everything. Luke had already visited.
You were grateful the two preteens were even alive, but you know how hard this was. They were only kids, not deserving to experience such heartbreak at a mere twelve years old.
Running up to Annabeth, you wrapped her in a comforting, empathy-filled embrace. Her muscles tensed up at first before accepting the hug and leaning in.
“I’m so sorry.” You muttered into her ears as she sighed. Pulling apart to read her emotions, you asked a simple question. “Are you alright?”
“Yeah, I’ll be fine.” She murmured unconvincingly.
“Promise?”
“Swear.” Annabeth replied.
“And you promise you’ll come talk to me if you’re not?” You asked again.
“Promise.”
You smiled for the first time in hours, basking in the warmth of your family.
“Is he... gone?” You whispered to her, and it didn’t take an Athena kid to understand who you were talking about.
“Yeah. He escaped through a portal.”
“Oh.” Was all you could reply, trying to shield the way your heart shattered.
“I’m sorry.” Annabeth said, looking into your glossy eyes.
“It’s okay. I’ll tell you everything later, but I’m just going to go to bed for now.”
You left, tears pouring down as you lightly jogged to the Hermes cabin. Slipping off your shoes, you plopped down onto Luke’s bed and sobbed.
His cheap cologne mixed with the citrusy shampoo he used lingered in the hot air, and for a moment, it was like he was still with you.

My thoughts on Ep. 4 - I Plunge to My Death, A rant
First off, Sally and baby Percy scene was so cute. I swear to god, no one will ever top Sally Jackson for being the best mortal parent in the series.
That Percabeth bonding scene in the train. Bruh, I cannot wait for the Kindness International truck and Waterland scenes.
Annabeth opening up about her Dad and Percy utterly shocked that not all mortal parents are like his Mom.
Frederick’s college ring on Annabeth’s necklace. To non book-readers, yes, that's her Dad's name.
Annabeth having to earn Thalia’s respect.
Luke caring for Annabeth right away just makes it more gut-wrenching and heart-breaking with what he’s about to do. (SPOILER ALERT) “Family, Luke. You promised.”
Grover being super grouchy when he doesn’t get enough sleep. And as someone in their twenties, I totally could relate to him.
This convo:
Percy : Can I ask a dumb question?
Annabeth: It's like you need me to make fun of you.
That's it, that's their relationship.
Mentioning the god of the wild, Pan, and that there are searchers for him.
How that convo basically went:
Train Cop: I don’t think you wanna take that tone with me, little girl.
Annabeth: EXFUCKINGCUSE ME?
Grover: Annabeth, no-!
Echidna calling the cops on 3 minors, just screams typical Karen behavior.
The St. Louis Arch being an actual temple of Athena is a nice change from Annabeth just wanting to go sightseeing.
This convo:
Percy: You've done more for me in the past few days than my father has done in my entire life. If I had to stick with someone, I-
Annabeth: Careful, I think you were about to call me a friend.
Percy: *stumbles because of the poison from the stinger*
Annabeth: *catches him*
Again, that’s their relationship.
Annabeth and Grover splashing water at Percy at a fountain when there’s a big-ass river nearby. Idk, but I find that funny.
Athena letting Echidna and the Chimera into the Arch because it wounded her pride? OH, HELL NO!
Athena’s Logic: Punish her devotee because someone close to them did something that wounded her pride. Medusa=Poseidon; Annabeth=Percy. She didn’t even gave a f*ck that the devotee in question is her own daughter. WTF, ATHENA!
I always thought Zeus has the crown for being the deadbeat absent godly parent, but Athena is slowly giving him a run for his money.
Annabeth deciding to sacrifice herself so Percy and Grover can continue the quest. WTF!
Percy tricking Annabeth into taking the final stand himself. Dude, your fatal flaw is showing.
Annabeth having to deal with a forbidden child sacrificing themselves for her safety AGAIN (With Thalia, and now Percy). Girl must be traumatized.
Grover having to go through it again as well.
The Chimera being terrifying than how non clear-sighted mortals see it.
Poseidon “always been here/so hard for me to stand back” Daddy to the rescue.
This:
Percy: *gets stuck underwater*
Nereid: It’s okay. You father sent me-
Percy: Oh, hell no! *tries to swim harder*
Percy only now realizing he can breath underwater. Like, of course, he can. He's Poseidon's kid.
We're only in Episode 4 and it's already so good. Can't wait for the episode 5.

Ω PJO DEMIGOD HEADCANONS: 👑HERA: QUEEN OF THE GODS, GODDESS OF MARRIAGE, WOMEN, MARTIAL HARMONY, AND THE PROTECTOR OF WOMEN DURING CHILDBIRTH 💒
Author's Note: Hi everyone, so some of you have been expecting this. I wasn't lying that I hadn't give it some thought but I didn't write this earlier since I wasn't sure how I could make it work. It might not be what you guys expected but here it is. This is going to be a stretch and please suspend your expectations for this. This is for the anons who asked if I could do Hera. I tried. This is what I came up with. Thanks for reading, liking, and reblogging! I really appreciate it! [PJO DEMIGOD HEADCANONS MASTERLIST]
*Warning: Immense wall of text below [Keep Reading]
I can only see this happening, given that Hera is very loyal to Zeus, and how a demigod child of Hera is born.
You’re a child of Zeus when the King of the Gods became mortal (SOMEHOW) temporarily and Hera supported him like the loyal wife she is.
You’re either born like how Athena births her children, where Hera thought about (a) mortal man, or like Hebe (in some mythological records) where she was born from Hera eating a piece of lettuce, from Hera by herself, but was somehow born half-mortal, instead of immortal.
You were crafted out of clay by Hera? Maybe???
You were born when Hera had become mortal herself (SOMEHOW????), born with Zeus’s help *COUGH*.
Regardless, your existence or any other demigod child of Hera is unheard of. Like it was not even a thought of possibility.
No one is sure how to proceed or wrap their minds around your existence. I don’t think you’re told how you were born, but even if you were told, you’re sworn by the River of Styx not to tell anyone except outside a few very selective approved individuals. This is because out of the listed reasons above, only one doesn’t insinuate anything relating to the King or Queen of Gods being mortal; which would reveal a weakness to the two monarchs of the Gods and the harmony of peace among the gods, or indicate Hera of cheating which would break the foundation of marriage and the law behind it. This unfortunately creates a lot of gossip behind your back about your godly mother and you’re the physical representation of it. Something Hestia herself tells you about, in a disapproving way to your godly parent.
There are immediate renovations to the Hera cabin, mostly because it is not livable at all. You’re temporarily put in the Big House until things are done to the Hera cabin. Annabeth has been given an official ‘pardon’ by Hera because of this, so there’s that? At least.
Annabeth isn’t sure how to interact with you, given Hera’s clear distaste to her, and how you’re her daughter, but at the same time you’re also innocent.
Percy is also a bit conflicted given Hera was the one who gave him the amnesia and the whole camp Half-blood and Jupiter thing, but he goes about it a bit easier because he knows all about bearing their godly parents misdeeds and grudges and all that.
On the other hand, you’re living with the knowledge that by technicality, a lot of people could’ve been married under the Ancient Greek laws. For example, Percy and Annabeth could be or would’ve been married when you heard that they were playing hacky sack with an apple and if Percy threw the apple at Annabeth, and she caught it, it would’ve technically counted as “accepting a marriage proposal”, and they were married-
Your mother’s domain is technically powerful and important but at the same time, it’s not very useful to you; considering there’s a lack of married individuals among the campers and the only one who is married is Mr. D, but you don’t dare to. But it’s not like you can do anything anyway since he is a god and you’re just a demigod…that and he’s been avoiding you.
Mr. D just avoids you and you’re not sure until someone tells you that Hera tricked his mother, Semele, into making Zeus reveal his true form to her to prove he was Zeus, evaporating her.
If Camp Half-blood has the aura of uncertainty, then Camp Jupiter is the opposite. The treatment towards you is the opposite where they treat you with reverence but because Juno is so revered, being her child makes you feel isolated.
The cabins that are at odds with you are the Aphrodite, Zeus, Athena cabins, while the cabins that are more cordial with you are the Hebe, and surprisingly the Ares and Hephaestus cabins.
At least there are a bunch of beautiful white lilies at Hera’s cabin, making the cabin more of a place to live than a renovated temple. The lilies are there because it is said they were born from her.
Argus is also your bodyguard for a reason. He was created by Hera for the sole purpose of being a guard and watchman, and considering you are the daughter of Hera, you fall under his duties. Not long after you were born, when you have grown out of the age protection Hera can protect you from, and Hebe when you’re past 8 years old, the monsters start coming into droves. There are monsters immediately trying to kill you, not just fueled because you’re a powerful demigod, but because of also Lamia, who she personally comes hunting for you. This is because Lamia, when she was a mortal queen and had the eye of Zeus, Hera was responsible for killing all of her children and became what she is now, and is also responsible for monsters hunting demigods to this day. Argus is only able to protect you only for so long so sharpen your skills and fight for your life.
When you get claimed, the world goes absolutely silent. Everyone stares upon the claim mark floating above your head, a peacock, like its a crown above your head. The spread feathers of the peacock does certainly make it look like one. With a crown above your head and a field of white lilies sprouting beneath your feet like a white carpet, it almost makes you think you’re a child of royalty being announced.  But you don’t let yourself be that deluded much longer. They stare at the mark longer than you like to admit, some blinking and rubbing their eyes as if they are seeing an illusion. You already know who your godly parent is, so you know the claim is just a message to Camp Halfblood.
That you are the demigod child of Hera. A being that has not been thought of to even possibly exist. An impossible existence.
Yet here you are. And you knew how. And yet you couldn’t tell any of them because Hera made you swear to not reveal that information to anyone outside of a very selected few confidants. If they knew any of the truths, then it would break the balance of the gods and would bring chaos to them; threatening them and you.
The claim begins to fade, disappearing into glittering lights and as it falls upon you, so do the campers’ eyes. Thousands and thousands of eyes stare at you, not for you, but what you are.
Argus stands beside you, standing like a guard and his protective stance only adds to the confirmation.
Mr. D drops his can of diet coke and as it splatters across the floor, Chiron finally breaks out of his stupor. He kneels and bows before you, his limbs shaking a bit as he stutters as he announces.
“The bloodline is determined. Hera, Queen of the Gods, Goddess of Marriage, Women, Martial harmony, and protector of women during Childbirth. Hail, [y/n] [l/n], child of the queen of the gods.”
There is silence before chaos erupts as everything is turned over their heads.

Ordinary Godly
Apollo x Male Reader
Fandom -> Percy Jackson Series
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Percy Jackson, who has fought a variety of Monsters and argued—even battled at some point—with the Godly deities of the mighty Olympus, had expected everything—when stepping into the home of Jason and Will, with the rest of his little friends troop—but nothing like this.
Seeing you, the deity of tranquility and slumber—another brother of Hypnos—for the very first time in actuality—was a weird experience of meeting for Percy.
»THERE YOU ARE! MY TWO PRECIOUS SUMMER BOYS! OH, NICO! I GREET YOU TOO, COME HERE!«
You had emerged from the Kitchen, baggy clothes—consisted of a large tee with the print of some band name and lyrics quote and pyjama pants—covered in what seemed to be flour and cocoa powder.
Your voice was loud, filled with thrilling excitement of joyfulness. Taking Jason and Will into your arms, hugging them tightly against you and giving each of them more than just a few kisses to the cheeks and head. Nico had been pulled into this as well, suffering through much affection as well.
You're radiating more hyperactivity energy and child like behaviour off, than the emotions you're meant to send out.
Walking into a home, in which Jason and Will had grown up with their two godly parents, which looked so damn mundane humane—that Percy had to take a double check on that Cookie Tin-can, filled with sewing stuff.
It confused him. If they all had learned one thing of being Demigods—half children of godly blessings, which sometimes could be seen as a curse though—that none of the gods and goddesses—their other parentally half—live like a ordinary human.
Always exotic enormously flashy, expensive, but never dare to boring and dull—than a god whose dull and pathetic unnoticeable, could not be worthy for eternity of mighty existence.
Yet, Percy thought, both the house and you are a stark contrast to what they have been told. Simple and ordinary.
»Are we sure this is really a deity?« asked Percy in a hushed whisper, leaning down to Annabeths ear and elbowing her in the side.
»I haven't seen Demosonos personally, but I highly doubt Jason and Will wouldn't recognised their parent.« she whispered back, keeping wary glances at them—some Gods can't be trusted.
Nico who had managed to free himself from the suffocating hug of love, stepped back to them and hissed in the same hushing voice of whispers;
»Do you two have any death wishes? Don't upset them.«
I mean, Percy thought—letting his gaze wander back to you—if we do so, what would happen? Ares, Zeus, Hades, Athena and his own father—Poseidon—are much more scarily and worthy of being called merciless fighters.
You on the other hand, looked—truthfully—weak. Percy could for sure, probably, take you down in seconds.
After all, from what he could gather, you're more than just a minor god—even less than minor, a subcategory inside a subcategory—unworthy to be mention with the same breath of saying Nxy, Hypnos and all the way to Morpheus.
Still, Percy is after all confused to why their Prophecy and Quest is, to seek you out and ask for your help.
Lesser Gods aren't helpful, they're more a nuisance.
~~~
»And this must be your other friends? Right? Perseus and Annabeth?« the question was more towards your sons.
You stepped towards the two teens, Will had already pulled Nico away to the Sofa and Jason had gone to the Kitchen, greeting loudly his other dad.
Percy and Annabeth felt both a bit uncomfortable with your vacant stare and the friendly smile on your lips.
»Uhh, It's Percy actually, I don't liked to be called Perseus« Percy didn't know, why of all the things he could say, decided to say this—but he did, mouth being faster than his brain again—and Annabeth elbowed him hard in the rips, a tiny gaps of breath intake left her lips.
The friendly smile never wavered from your lips, nodding at them—they couldn't tell if you had even listen properly, vacant glint still in your eyes—head dropping a bit to the side.
»Aah! You want some tea and Sweets? C'mon, c'mon, now don't be shy you two, take a seat. Will be a dear and help me« clapping your hands, you ushered the two teens to the Sofa, skipping already to the Kitchen.
»I will explain later a bit,« with that being said, Will stood up as well.
Neither of the three said anything, looking around the living room with more interest than addressing the current situation—or more issues perhaps?
»I thought you knew what he is like Nico....I mean with you being Wills boyfriend, you are prone to meet his parents«
»Hey hey, don't come at me now Chase. I only have met Mr. [Surname] like three times and that was in the city.«
»Small tip of advice, don't be so stiff. Relax a little or Pa's gonna worry again« they hadn't noticed Jason, who have come back from the kitchen with a tray of Tea cups and Kettle.
Will following soon after with a Tray of sweets and pastries, setting it down on the coffee table. They both getting comfortable on the sofas—Jason on the main big one, while Will had sat with Nico on the right mini sofa and Percy and Annabeth on the left—again.
Nico instantly following Jasons advice, relaxing his body and sliding just a bit down.
When Apollo had entered the living room, Annabeth and Percy gasped loudly in surprise. Standing up they bow their head or more like, Annabeth forced Percy to do as well.
»Lord Apollo!«
»Since when did you become a Lord? Aren't you a God?« you asked in amused surprise, taking a seat as well.
»Apparently just now, love« Apollo shrugged, Will started to laugh and Jason sighed in disappointment, shaking his head—so much for giving advice to his friend, to not be so formally stiff and causing tension.
~~~
The hours passed and Percy and Annabeth had relaxed over the times. Coming to the conclusion that you aren't one of the tricky gods—like Ares—who likes to use them as soldiers.
You asked them various questions, be it about the quest or some daily things; like what's your favourite TV-Show.
It wasn't long till you slumped, actually passing out from something akin to exhaustion and sleep, body leaning against Apollo—who had long wrapped an arm around you in a protective manner.
Jason stood up, taking your legs and moving them onto the couch. Getting a blanket from the footstool—where are tower of them was stacked—and covering you a bit to the hips with it.
Percy couldn't help himself but to stare at the marks—he first took notice of them when you handing him a gummy-bear—which covers your arms, starting from your wrist and ending somewhere at your neck or collarbone.
He had seen these types of Marks before. Racking his brain for the information he had read about or being told from.
Oh.
Percy jumped up, snapping his fingers and pointing—accusingly—at you. Head turning to Annabeth and again his mouth had been faster than his brain.
»That's THE DEMON OF OLYMPUS!« he had shouted it so loud, that your body jerked up—stirring awake is what you begun, already mumbling something sleepily out of context.
Apollo moved you quickly into his arms, shushing you gently back to the dreamlands and humming a little tune of it.
A mess had started to erupt between them all.
»I know! It's still highly disrespectful to point that out, seaweed brain!« Annabeth slapped him hard against the shoulder.
»Do you have a death wish, Jackson? Do you want us get killed?« hissed Nico, giving a glare, sitting uptight again and body going absolutely rigid stiff.
The worst part for Percy was probably the disbelieving disappointment frown on both, Jasons and Apollos—though his frown looked more like concealed bubbling anger—face.
Apollon stood up with you in his arms, ready to walk out. Will was about to stand up as well, wanting to go with his father.
»I'll take it from here boys. I expect from you two to inform your friends properly now, to ensure that such outrageous behaviour won't happen again.«
»Wow, way to go Percy. Upsetting one of the kinder gods in just one go.« Will wanted to laugh, to make it seem that it wasn't that bad, but his laugh came more like a strangled cry out.
»How many times did we, did I, told you to keep your mouth shut in more than just one occasion?!« chastised Annabeth, giving him another shoulder slap.
»No, honestly Percy, be fucking glad Pa had another slumber episode of his or you would....I don't know, but it wouldn't be nice.«
»But he's the Demon of Olympus! Isn't he not? The marks of Zeus's banning are a clear sign of it. I don't get why we need help from an evil deity who also deceives everyone to believe he's being known as a lesser god«
»Even for you Perseus, that's a new personal low! How dare you to say such horrible things about my Pa.« Jason stomped off, the anger radiating off and his face slightly red from it.
Will had decided to inform Percy properly about his dad's complete and historical story. He didn't want his parents to be offended—or feel upset and angered—after all they need their help and support for the upcoming—already starting—quest.
You're the brother, a child from Nyx, of Hypnos. It is true, your actual deity personality, form and power is akin to one of chaos—you're a personification of weather—raging storms to be exact—and a sneer of demonic vileness petty violence.
During a darker time in history, Zeus had strikes you with lightning—sealing your actuality, banning them for a balance—and splitting you into what you are now; god of tranquility and slumber.
The splitting had also caused a turn in personality itself. Making you more childish, airhead and forgetful. Kindness from you, comes not completely naturally—feeling more forced without meaning to, though you do love and this was a genuine one.
»Yeah okay, but why is Demosonos—uh, [Name], with your father, Will?«
»They're married?«
»Why?«
»You're officially demoted from Seaweed brain to dumbweed brain.« muttered Nico, pinching the bridge of his nose.
»They married for like years and that's because out of actual love and I'm not gonna tell you their sappy love story.«
»Still I don't get how like Lord Apollo, who blends like the sun, is being married freely to someone like him, a actual demonic person«
»I–oh my fucking god, Percy. My dads are married because they love one another, completely smitten they are, how hard is that to understand?!« Will groaned in desperation, taking a handful of biscuits again—had he almost eaten the whole bowl.
And Nico thought, how a great way to upset a God and already dooming their quest in the very beginning.
~~~
Jason felt hesitant, as if he were five again and didn't wanted to disrupt his parents sleeps because he had a nightmare, to step into the bedroom.
Respectfully he knocked a few times on the door, before opening it and stepping inside.
The bedroom was almost shrouded in complete darkness, except for the dimmed nightshade next to the bed.
Apollo had acknowledged his son, didn't say anything though—to occupied to lay in bed next to you, hand supporting his head as he drove his fingers through your hair.
A cooled washcloth was placed over your face. You hadn't started to sweat, sign of upcoming fever, but Apollon didn't wanted to risk it—doing a prevention beforehand.
What most, be it his own kind or humans, didn't know is that Zeus lightning strike to you has caused more than just a split personality—created a rift in your health, leaving you vulnerable and weak and prone to sickness.
Apollo couldn't do much about it. Not even with his powers of healing, leaving him a pit of despair and self-hatred whenever you got sick.
»Do you know the actual, not that stupidly outrageous idea of us gods being unfaithful, I mean some truly are, reason, why we have decided to let you and Will and all your other siblings been born from Humans?«
»No,« Jason shook his head, debating with himself if he should sit or lay down next to you, in the end he chose a mix of both.
Jason had sometimes wonders why it always had been that way—being born from humans and a deity—even though gods and goddesses could bear children just as well.
When he had been younger, wasn't all that long ago in his early teen years—memory still fresh in mind and sometimes upsetting him—he had accused his father, they had another argument that day, he never had loved dad in the beginning and being unfaithful to him—cheating with woman's and only seeing you as some kind of trophy.
That day was the only day and time where Jason had seen Apollo with actual anger on his face. The kind of anger which bubbles in you till it turns into hatred and pettiness.
»It's because your dad wouldn't survive the procedure of giving birth and I mind you, the whole explanatory of the aspect itself of how we gods and goddesses giving birth and the many various ways to do so, is chaotic complexing on its own.«
»You mean, dad would die? But you are immortals and immortals aren't meant to die«
»Yes and no. Even though we're immortals of eternity, there are still ways—ancient barbaric ones—to kills us or at least in a sense of us being dead. No, no, Jay, the reason isn't death, he just wouldn't survive.«
Jason furrowed his brows, not understanding what his father meant or trying to tell him.
»You well aware of what happened to your dad, his history. Zeus had strike him down, leaving him in the few hours of unconsciousness—which had caused a spurt of utterly violent storms throughout the land—vulnerable and unable to defend himself against any sort of danger and hostile.«
»Are you trying to tell me that, Zeus had, you know—with dad?«
»Dear lord! Jason! Absolutely not! Don't ever think of such disgusting scenarios and manners again.«
Apollo sighed deeply, not having expected his Son to come to such conclusions. You stirred again, your hand coming up to your face and taking the washcloth off.
Bleary you opened your eyes, trying to make out where you are and who you are.
Apollo, praying silent apologies already, leaning down to you—pressing a soft kiss onto your lips and with a quick whisper of humming lullaby, brought you back into the grips of slumber. Unconscious you rolled onto your side, over to him and into his arms.
»You put him into force sleep! Didn't you told us to never use our powers of sleep in such forceful ways? It's a rule number one!«
Apollo raised a brow at his son, who looked absolutely mortified for a good minute and turned into distasteful disappointment.
»Now now, my son, don't give me such gaze. I too am not proud of what I did, but it had to be done. It's still a sensitive topic and I don't want to cause a distress, disturbance or even distrust perhaps. Now, where was I? Aah yes—«
»So like I said, during the hours of unconsciousness, a wave of sickness rolled over—custody of Pandora's box being opened—and infected painfully your dad. Leaving him, once he had woke up, in a whimpering withering anxiety filled mess.«
»And that's how you meet Dad then, right?«
»That's a story for another, but yes. Anyways, to what I'm trying to say is, your dad is still too vulnerable and weak—sickness prone, to be able to handle the whole procedure of giving birth. I mean we tried it once and only, but.....let's just say, dad still has scars from it. And thus the reason why we and perhaps most of us gods, decided to let our children been born from humans.«
Jason gulped, trying to not choke on his tighten up throat. He hadn't been aware of it, how the true story had happened, but it all makes so much sense now.
The times you got so bedridden, unable to do anything but sleep, that Will cried for days and nights thinking you're about to die from incurable illness.
Or when Will had been still a child, having gotten a nasty flu and you had to take care of Will and him—Jason himself had been in some bad mood the whole week to even consider to help you out as he was the older brother after all—all on your own, because his father had been away for business trips—and you looked so exhausted and ready to pass out any minute, that Jason hadn't even question back then why you took pills after pills and chugged cups of coffee.
Jason understands so much better now, why you never got angry—like he had been, when founding out—when Apollo had intercourse with yet another woman.
He understood why you're so prone to sudden collapse of exhaustion and slumbering sleep during the day or in the middle of doing something.
And then he felt a rush of rage through his blood.
You didn't deserve to be treated like this, to be frowned upon down or with that false kindness the other deities treated you with.
You didn't deserve to either called a demonic being or naively dumbling of airy forgetfulness.
Jason hated it. Hated them, the ones above and those below. How dare they to make you feel so unwanted and filling you with seeds of self-hatred and anxiety—when you give nothing but pure love to him and his siblings.
Jason wasn't blind, his father neither—though the man chose to completely ignore it, when you once again had puffy red rimmed eyes—when you had cried in the bathroom during nights and mumbling things to yourself, Jason didn't want to repeat.
Jason decided, this prophecy wasn't worth it to bring you once again pain and remind you of the haunting past.
If it meant to sabotage the quest, he would do. After all his loyalty and love belongs to only you and not to the greater ones above, who hadn't even the slightest fuck to give about their children.
would've, could've, should've | luke castellan
series masterlist | prev | next
series description: zeus!reader x luke castellan; the series of events that happened between you and luke before and after his betrayal. doesn't follow canon.
i. if you never touched me, i would’ve gone with the righteous.
you could pinpoint the exact moment when your world was thrown off its axis. you were fourteen. it all happened so fast. the four of you were running, trying to reach the safety of camp half-blood, the commands of your younger sister sounded like nails on a chalkboard. you hated when she yelled at you; she always sounded like she knew better than you did, as if you didn’t go through the same things as she did, as if you weren’t older than her. whenever thalia talked to you, it felt like her words were daggers digging themselves deeper and deeper into your chest. there was never a time when you didn’t feel incompetent when you were with her.
“she’s more like our mom,” you heard her say to luke once. you were sitting with annabeth a few feet away, roasting a marshmallow on the fire you made. you’d stolen a bag from the walmart you stopped at a few miles back. the young girl was talking about something beside you, but your attention was on the conversation your sister was having with luke.
“that’s not a bad thing,” he replied. “the less we’re like that parent, the better.”
you never thought that you’d miss the feeling of incompetence. you never thought you’d want to hear your sister’s criticizing voice just one more time. one minute, you were looking over your shoulder, ready to stand up for yourself for the first time, ready to yell at thalia to run faster, to catch up, while dragging annabeth’s small hand in yours, hoping that her short legs won’t give out; the next, luke was picking up the young girl and placing a hand on your back, shoving you with all his might, but thalia was nowhere to be found. the sound of your name died on thalia’s lips.
you don’t remember much after that. you could feel the specks of dirt on the side of your face and the drops of water slowly soaking the clothes you were wearing. you can hear someone crying– beth, you realized– and the whispers of someone else muttering, you’re okay. i’m here. you’re okay. we’re safe. you thought you twisted your head to look at your two companions, but the more you tried to move, the more frustrated you got. you couldn’t move. why couldn’t you fucking move?
“shit,” the same voice. luke. you heard his footsteps coming closer, beth’s tiny steps echoing after him. “fuck, beth, go call for help.”
the rain was stronger now. you hated the feeling of clothes sticking to your skin. the water was making the ground muddy and you could hear the sounds of it squelching under your ear. you felt dirty. you wanted to scrub your skin until it was raw.
“hey, hey,” luke was kneeling beside you. his voice was shaky, “y/n, can you hear me?”
you wanted to nod, but you couldn’t.
“shit,” he repeated. he stood up, cupping his hands around his mouth, “help! someone please help!”
you woke up days later, in the middle of the night, gasping for air, drenched in sweat. luke and annabeth were passed out somewhere on one of the beds lining the cabin. they’d woken up days earlier than you did, but their bodies were too weak. chiron instructed them to stay in the infirmary until they could walk again without any assistance.
it hurt to sit up. the groans that left your lips made annabeth stir in her bed, but she didn’t wake up. you envied her ability to sleep through the noise but she was just a kid, she deserved to sleep. you recalled the nights the four of you spent in the caves you considered shelter, taking guard shifts while annabeth slept through the night. the agreement to not let her take guard, she was too young, she was just a child, was one of the few times you felt thalia valued your opinion.
luke, who woke at the smallest sounds, jolted awake at your noise. even before he ran away, he trained himself to wake up at the smallest things. his mom was unpredictable. a slight breeze of air could mean that she woke up in the middle of the night to walk on their roof, mumbling incoherent words, and the faint smell of smoke could mean that his mom was trying to bake again and luke would have to put the fire out before it burned their house down; luke learned early on that he needed to be alert at all times.
you were staring blankly at the wall. the smell of wet wood made your head spin. it hasn’t stopped raining since that night. you froze at the sound of thunder. there was something familiar in the way it hit your ears. it sounded like thalia’s voice, agony and pain, gripping your heart tightly.
“hey, you okay?” luke’s voice sounded older somehow, deeper, heavier. he was standing at the foot of your bed, blocking your view of the peeling wallpaper on the wall across from you.
his curly hair was matted on his head. his left arm was in a sling, a strap slung across his chest. his lips were red and raw, as if he’d been gnawing at them. he probably was. it was disorienting for a moment because his voice didn’t match his appearance. in the dark, he looked like a kid, searching for comfort after a bad dream. sometimes you forget that he was only fourteen, that you were only a few months younger than him. sometimes you forget that you were just kids.
luke was staring at you, a part of him waiting for you to speak, the other part of him taking you in for the first time since that night. he was relieved to see you awake. he didn’t know if he could’ve handled losing you too. the minute luke met you, he knew you were different. you were more human than any of them, like you weren’t supposed to be born into this life somehow, like the gods made a mistake making you into a demi-god.
you viewed the world differently from him and thalia, but it wasn’t in a way that was naive. him and thalia accepted this world, this life, but luke knew you didn’t, not fully. there was a part of you that still held onto the humanity of it all. luke loved you for it.
“my sister.” your voice was hoarse after not using it for days. it was scratchy and you wanted to claw at your neck until it was back to normal.
luke looked away for a second, clearing his throat. he walked closer to you, sitting on your bed. he let his feet rest on the creaky floorboards. “how much do you remember?”
“i don’t think thalia liked me very much.” your reply didn’t answer his question, and if luke was annoyed by it, he didn’t let it show. he was looking down at his lap, knees bumping into each other as he tried to steady himself. he’d been practicing for days how he was going to break the news to you in case you didn’t remember, but it seemed like you did. he replayed this scenario a million times in his head, but this conversation, your words, caught him off guard.
“she loved you,” he said. “you’re her sister.”
“yeah, but she didn’t like me, not really,” you reached for the cup of water beside your bed. you didn’t know how long it’s been out there, but you didn’t care. it burned your throat as you drank. “i should’ve been the one protecting her, not the other way around. i’m her big sister.”
a small smile crept on his face, “when has thalia ever accepted help?”
you always appreciated luke. ever since you met him, he always tried his best to make you smile, even when there wasn’t much to smile about. he was the oldest of the bunch and he took the role seriously, sometimes too seriously. he had the same fighting spirit as thalia, untamed and wild. they didn’t seem to ever butt heads– not the way you and thalia did, at least. they had a mutual respect for each other, like soldiers recognizing soldiers.
“she loved you,” he said again, trying to somehow convince you. luke didn’t know what it was like to lose a sibling, and he hoped he’d never find out, so he didn’t know if his words were making the situation better or worse.
he knew it was true, though. thalia did love you, even if she had a different way of showing it. there was a night before the three of you found annabeth, where he woke up to switch lookout shifts with thalia. thalia was sitting beside you, a small knife in her hand, ready to strike in case anyone got near you.
“hey,” luke whispered, hoping that his voice wouldn’t wake you. “take a break. i got it from here.”
he’d only met the two of you the day before and he could tell thalia didn’t fully trust him yet. he didn’t fault her, he understood why.
thalia’s eyes flickered to your sleeping body, her defenses faltering for a second, before she shook her head in defiance. she stared at luke, “no, i’m good.”
“thalia, you haven’t slept all night,” he reasoned, “you won’t do any of us any good if you’re not resting.”
“don’t tell me if i’m good enough,” she sneered, eyes narrowing. she didn’t break her gaze. “me and my sister survived just fine before you.”
luke’s face softened at her words, “i didn’t say you weren’t good enough.”
the two of them went back and forth for a while until it was decided that luke was going to stay up, too, even if thalia didn’t want to sleep. they sat in silence, thalia sneaking glances at luke every once in a while. she fought to stay awake until she couldn’t anymore, succumbing to her fatigue. luke didn’t say anything when she fell asleep at your feet a few hours later.
luke was patient for his age. he wasn’t hot-headed anymore, the way thalia was, but he remembered a time when he used to be; like when he was eight and his mom bought him a piece of chocolate at the store the day after she wandered out of the house in the middle of the night, doing gods know what, and he walked for hours, exhausted and sleepy, before he found her in front of an abandoned hospital a town away. she was sobbing in front of the caduceus painted on the wall. he could barely make it out under the graffiti on top of it, but his mom was screaming, it’s your dad. your father is here, luke. look at him.
luke was livid when he woke up the next day to her keys jingling, a bright smile on her face, as she held out the small piece of chocolate she bought for him. she was acting like everything was normal, like everything was fine, as if luke’s feet didn’t form blisters from walking so far, like the tiredness in his eyes weren’t proof of his lack of sleep.
luke screamed at her then. he screamed at her until his voice was gone and his mom stood there, taking his words, not making an effort to argue. when he was having a particularly bad day, he’d think about the piece of chocolate, imagining what it would’ve tasted like if he had just taken his mom’s peace offering, if he had just been patient with her.
thunder struck again, but this time it was stronger. it shook the cabin. you placed the cup of water on the table. you nudged luke with your foot, “what did we get ourselves into, luke?”
there was a beat. luke looked up from his lap then, catching a sight of your face under the strike of lightning that illuminated the otherwise dark room. he reached over to place his hand on top of yours, giving it a light squeeze, “i don’t know, but as long as we’re together, it’ll be okay.”
neither of you could remember the last time you slept as well as you did that night. when you woke up the next day, the sun was shining brightly through the widow.
some Leo headcanons I have
Leo doesn't know what day his birthday is. He knows its in July, but he hasn't done anything on it since he was 8 and he used to act like it was/wasn't on certain days based on how well they went (he thinks its the 7th, but he hates the number 7 so he ignores it).
Leo has stolen and crashed a police car. He will do it again.
Leo's mother and Aunt Rosa both had dreams from Gaea that told them Leo was going to kill Esperanza, but Esperanza took it as an "he'll do it on accident bc he doesn't know how to control his powers" and Rosa took it as "It's a sign from God and this child was sent by the devil".
He's asexual biromantic, but in love with the idea of being in love.
He learns a form of script-based magic - the same thing that is etched on each stone used for the Hecate cabin. Jo is his teacher, but when he visits camp all of the Hecate cabin are happy to help him too. He views it as a code instead of magic, and only ever uses it in the things he builds because he forgets it can be useful on its own.
He's a Fall out Boy stan. Loves all types of rock too, but FOB was his gateway into it.
Every time he went to a new school if they had a music program he could join for free he would. Originally he'd just choose a new instrument every school, but on his third try he learnt drums and decided to stick with it.
HIs eyes look like yooperlite while it's glowing, but more like burning coals while he's using his powers.
On that note, Leo's body temperature can be way hotter than the normal person's. On a normal day where he's fine in everyway, he's hot but not hot enough for people to think he's feverish. When he's excited his temperature rapidly increases, as it does with stress. When he forgoes sleeping his body forgets to regulate his temperature, which leads to him either going very cold or very hot.
He can't really get fevers at all really. It's also very hard for a lot of illnesses to effect him because half the time he burns it up before he even knows its there. When he does get sick it's really bad though, because his immune system is actually pretty weak.
Related to that, he is the only known person who can currently be a theoretical host to a thermophile virus. Not that he would, but it is a thought that has crossed his mind.
He has a hobby of making little robots. He makes Piper a bronze eagle one as a present and he slowly starts to make them for his friends
Annabeth gets a cat because he thinks she has cat vibes and an owl would be basic. Percy gets an otter because Leo did not want to think about making a robot fish that works well out of water. Frank gets a chameleon as a joke, but he makes it so it can turn into a small dragon too. Hazel gets a snake, again for the vibes. Nico gets a lizard. Just like, a nondescript lizard. He makes Reyna a bronze dog to "complete the metal set", but it's based of a Molossus of Epirus instead of a hound. Jo and Emmie get matching gryphons, and Georgina's little robot is a llama. Leo makes himself a wolf in honour of Jason.
On the topic of making things, Leo also gets really into all forms of metalsmithing. Which includes making jewellery, which leads to him getting a lot of piercings. Piper does too, because they went to go get the piercings together. He loves giving people little friendship bracelets, and charms, and ornaments. He makes people themed cutlery sets.
His love language is gift giving, if it's not obvious.
He stays in contact with Apollo, but in order to not upset Zeus they frame it as 'music lessons'. As the inventor of the Valdezinator (and its best player), it's a pretty good excused. Leo does make new instruments occasionally when they feel like they're pushing the 'lesson' excuse.
They fr just gossip during them though, and then give each other a scuffed form of therapy. They go from talks about petty drama to unanswerable philosophical discussions to jokes that make no sense.
I like how Jason's reputation amongst the gods kind of cements his character as a dutiful leader. I know most ppl don't like the fact that he's all goody goody, but it really fits his arc well, and i like reading about it. it's one of the things about Jason that Rick didn't fumble. He was consistent with his character being dutiful and noble till the very end and makes it a point to show that through others perception.
Zeus- Okay he's a horrible dad, but he did initially respect his son (before jason opposed him in front of the gods, that kinda warped his ego) even going as far as to saying that he was proud to have him as a son and stuff. Which was a pretty ooc thing for Zeus to do especially to his sons. Too bad it only lasted for a few seconds before he went back to being bitchy.
Hera- Jason changed her perception of demigods, we know Hera hated all demigods bc half of them are sired by her husband, she wanted to use jason as a pawn to Gaia's defeat. But all those times she treated jason as her champion, she ended up actually caring about him and considered him a son. She mourned and cried about Jason MONTHS after he died, even going as far as to yell at her husband for not caring or grieving about the child that HE sired.
Apollo- self explanatory, Jason stood up for Apollo from the very beginning, and ended up dying for his sake, even when didn't have to do that. Jason made Apollo understand to have empathy for humans ("Remember what it's like to be human") and made Apollo stop being so full of himself with his selfless sacrifice. So apollo is the Olympian who has the most amount of respect for Jason. And made sure that Jason's sacrifice would not be in vain.
Artemis- if you go to the official Riordan wiki fanpage for Artemis, it's mentioned that Percy and Jason were two of the only male demigods that she had immense respect for. She mentally thanked Jason for standing up to Zeus for Apollo. Of course, being Thalia's brother could also give jason browny points aswell lol.
Athena- She seemed to respect Jason's wisdom in blood of Olympus, when he told his dad that it was unwise to punish apollo for Gaia's waking. Well know Athena respects anyone who has shown wisdom. She shot Jason a very approving look. So it's nice that Athena, who is very critical and picky, observed that Jason is a well thought out and insightful individual.
Aphrodite- kind of self explanatory too, she called jason a lovely boy in piper's dream, even alluding that jason needed absolutely no physical improvement in his looks aswell. I know this has nothing to do with Jason's dutifulness but Aphrodite can sense a person's heart and nature, and she immediately thought jason was perfect for her daughter even before they started dating. We know how picky Aphrodite is when it comes to who people date lol
Bacchus/Dionysus- We know that Bacchus had somewhat remembered Jason (calling him John green and all lol) because jason had done services for him (something about a leopard, iforgot lol). And annabeth pointed out that it was a good thing that jason and Bacchus were on fairly good terms. So there's that.
Mostly Billy Batson
Hear me out. Captain Marvel/Billy Batson is aware of the Greek gods for obvious reasons.
However he isn’t aware of camp half blood and the fact demigods are still around.
The demigods are very aware of Captain Marvel. Lots of them are jealous of him because he is gets special treatment. A lot of campers think he’s some ancient son of Zeus. Luke castellan wanted to punch him because Captain Marvel had mercury’s blessing.
Captain Marvel/ Billy is basically the gods errand boy. He protects magical places and fixes magic problems. But only when they interact to closely with other pantheons and other magical spheres.
————————————————————————
Billy is a son of Hermes. He doesn't figure out he's a demigod until he comes across Hermes while being captain marvel.
Billy is captain marvel and has to do something with Hermes and they have to be discreet. So Billy powers down. And suddenly Hermes is staring at his 10 year old son.
Hermes: yea we're going to be subtle here. I don't think a 6'4" champion of the gods is going to be very subtle.
Captain Marvel: oh no problem. SHAZAM!
Billy: this subtle enough?
Hermes: BILLY?!?!
Billy: how'd you know my name?
Hermes: I'm not sure how to tell you this kiddo but l'm your father.
Billy a homeless child who has seen weirder at this point: cool can I have some money? I'm sorta homeless.
Hermes pulling out a pamphlet for camp half blood: I have a better idea.
————————————————————————
Hermes actually takes Billy to camp personally. The entire camp had an aneurism when they found out that not only Captain Marvel a demigod he’s also like 12.
The Hermes cabin looks at Billy who has been overworked since he became Captain Marvel and is terrified he’ll turn out like Luke. Connor actually gives Billy Luke’s old bunk.
————————————————————————
The Hecate cabin loves Billy because they get to talk about how annoying Constantine is and how awesome Zatana is.
This love strengthens when Billy finds Alabaster running around and Billy lets Alabaster stay in the cave of wonders. (They miss their brother)
————————————————————————
Percy meets Captain Marvel
Percy: so you have the strength of Hercules? AND the stamina of Atlas?
Captain Marvel: yep! I’ve even met them.
Percy pulling out riptide: so have I. You ever heard of Zöe Nightshade?
Captain marvel: no….
Percy: thought not. So the next time you see Hercules you’re gonna…
————————————————————————
Annabeth: the wisdom of SOLOMON! What’s wrong with the wisdom of Athena?!
Billy: I don’t know he isn’t even Greek or Roman! I’m just as confused! Some of them three of them aren’t even gods! They’re demigods and a titan!
Annabeth: and you’re blessed by Mercury but you’re a son of Hermes!
Billy: I know! He says I’m a walking headache.
————————————————————————
Some villain: HA I’ve depowerd you Captain Marvel! Now that you’ve lost your ability to fly you won’t be able to stop me!
Billy: yeah about that. Maia! *winged sneakers start to fly*
Some villain: oh come on!
————————————————————————
the justice league is oddly connected to the gods
Lois Lane is a Daughter of Apollo. Superman gets his powers from the sun think about it.
Oliver Queen and Roy Harper while not demigods are favored by Apollo. Apollo gave them the gift of clear sight. Apollo has flirted with both of them and Lois hates it.
Batfam are demigods mostly of various minor gods. The mist around Gotham is really weak. Most Gotham demigods never go to camp because Gotham has its own system for demigods. Gotham demigods are aware of ALL the pantheons.
Bruce is a Roman legacy of Nox (Nyx) and Pavor (Phobos). Self explanatory. He only served a few years in camp Jupiter saying that he had a mortal life to deal with aka Batman stuff.
Alfred has a small altar dedicated to Hestia/Vesta both in the kitchen and by a fireplace in the batcave
Steph is such a Hermes kid. Cluemaster is her step father but she didn’t know that until she was claimed. She is a distant legacy of Apollo through her mother.
Dick is a son of Hebe. He never looks over 23. His parents are still his parents it’s more of a 3 parents situation.
Jason is a son of Nemesis and a legacy of the Celtic god Ogma (knowledge god) I also like the idea of him being a son of Hermes. Imagine Hermes picking up Jason’s soul when he died.
Tim is a distant legacy of Athena and a son of Nike.
Harley Quinn is a defendant of Dionysus specifically of his god of madness form.
❝ Child of Hades ❞
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing; (All Platonic) Percy X reader, Annabeth X reader, Grover X reader........(Nico Di Angelo X reader, Bianca Di Angelo X reader) Warning; Idk, uhhhhh... Hades!reader. And.... Uhhhh, idk I think that's it ALSO SORRY BUT I WAS SWITCHING BETWEEN (y/n)'s POV AND SECOND PERSON POV LOL A/N; To the anon that requested that, I LOVE YOU. — Aunty Juno
(Y/N) was in the Hermes cabin, unclaimed, for 3 years. No god had claimed the poor thing for 3 whole years.
Annabeth thought they might've been Athena's child, since they were pretty smart for their age
Grover was always comfortable around them, even if their whole aura was kinda gloomy and monochromatic
Until Percy came to Camp Half-blood. (Y/N) was, besides Luke, to accept him into the unclaimed/Hermes cabin
When Percy got claimed, was surprised. Especially (Y/N).
When (Y/N) came racing over to him to congratulate him on being claimed... Snap.
(Y/N) looked down under their boot, they'd crushed a spider by accident. Killing the Arachnid
Suddenly, the same noise that called out when Percy was claimed, echoed, but in a more eerie note
the symbol of a skull lit up above their head. Chiron saw both children being claimed by the two most powerful gods, and his jaw went tight.
He walked over to the two and raised their arms up. calling out.
“Poseidon,” called Chiron. “Earthshaker, Stormbringer, Father of Horses. Hail, Perseus Jackson, Son of the Sea God.”
he then turned to (Y/N)
“Hades,” he yelled. “King of those below, Bringer of Death, Keeper of Souls. Hail, (Y/N) (L/N). Child of Deathly god.”
Everyone was stunned. Annabeth and Grover were even more stunned.
Two demigods—claimed on the same day—both children of the big three gods.
One Ares Child joked: “Oh great. Who's next? Who's secretly Zeus' kid?”
Thunder struck down after that comment
When Percy was sent on his quest, he choose Annabeth and (Y/N). Two powerful people, two potential friends and/or foes
after all the challenges and all that (yk the lore, you'll understand)
When the group got down to the underworld, (Y/N) lead them, much to Percy's protest.
“It's my quest, shouldn't I lead?”
“They won't kill me.”
“...Fair.”
Once you got to the end of the line (yk the ones Percy called suckers (you scolded him for that))
You were the first to hear Hades before he was even in sight. You assumed it was because you're in the underworld and he's your dad
There was an awkward conversation between Hades and his child. Who wouldn't be and at their godly parent for taking 3 years to claim them?
“I know you're mad at me..”
“I'm more than and, hades.”
“You mean Father.”
“Hades.”
Yea...
SPOILERS FOR TITAN'S CURSE!!
Tumblr media
I'd say later in life, when you meet Bianca and Nico, you immediately recognised them as Hades kids. You wanted to tell them so bad, but you weren't allowed, they had to be claimed themselves
When Bianca died, your heart sank, you could feel her soul passing on to the underworld
When Nico ran away, you ran after him. Racing after him like a cheetah running after their prey
The others called out for you to stop but you never did...
You didn't come back for a while...
.˚ 𓈒 ࣪.𝝑𝝔 My boyfriend's dad is scared of me ! ´ˎ˗
Jason Grace x Fem!Nyx!Reader Synopsis: Meeting your boyfriends dad doesn't go as planned when he's scared of you !!! Warning(s): perhaps a swear here and there, Hera being messy, the usual Word Count: 2008 A/N: I'd think nyx kids are like Twyla Boogeyman, with the hiding and becoming one with the shadows n stuff
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The king of the gods Zeus, even his Roman equivalent Jupiter, was know for being an intimidating force who fears no one. Not even the faithful wife he's cheated on every now and then. Except for maybe one thing, or person. The Goddess Nyx. Nyx is a formidable opponent with power greater and older than Zeus himself.
Now whats just as scary as the Goddess Nyx? Her kids!! Well, kid. It was just you. LOL !
When you were growing up, you were always more comfortable in the shadows. When you turned 7 and your father finally explained who your mother really was, everything started to make sense. Sucks your dad had quickly chucked you off to camp, he was probably just scared of you. From very young you already know of your potential, the powers in the shadows, the powers in the dark, never truly perfecting this blood-curdling aura aura until arriving at camp.
Most people found you creepy, not Jason though. You first met him when Annabeth brought him and his friends to camp. There was obviously something odd about him, probably the fact he was actually a memory wiped ROMAN, but you didn't know that yet. Before he left for his first quest, you would blend into the shadows and follow him around.
Until one day he had enough with the feeling of being watched and ran out into the woods where he could confront you.
"Is there someone there? Is someone following me??" Jason said loudly, looking around in circles waiting for someone to appear from the bushes or behind a tree. Where he didn't expect you to appear? From the underside of a branch out from a shadow, revealing you upside down from the waist up (or down, since you're upside down).
"Did you know your dads scared of my mom?" You laughed as Jason jumped at your sudden appearance.
"Where did you- how did you-" You stuck your hand out toward Jason.
"Y/N, child of Nyx. Hi." Jason slowly reached back out and shook your hand. Once he let go, you fell out of the shadow and landed on the ground in a hero pose before standing up and facing Jason. "You're not one of us are you?"
"What are you talking about? I just got here and don't remember anything, at all."
"What's my moms name?"
"Uh you just said it? Nox."
"Um that's the Roman name, whats with you and the Roman names? Hm?" You looked at him up and down. "I wonder if the rumors are true."
"Huh? What rumor-" And just like that you jumped right back in your shadows and ran off. Jason stood there confused. And for the next few hours, all he thought of was that moment in the woods. Was it cool or creepy? Mostly cool to be honest.
You made your way to the big house to spy on Chiron, see if he knew anything. Until you got bored of waiting and started pestering him.
"Cmon, I've heard the rumors, you know I hear everything. Is there really such a thing as Roman demigods?"
"We cannot discuss this Y/N."
"Please I won't tell. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE-"
"ENOUGH. You win, now keep your mouth shut and go on with your day."
You were a persistent and terrifying girl. Perfect in your eyes honestly. Despite having such a chilling presence you were quite outgoing, so you slowly went from the watcher to the watched. After that day in the woods Jason found himself growing in his curiosity on who you were. He found himself watching shadows waiting for you to suddenly pop up, watched as random legs would pop out from the ground in front of other campers tripping them and quickly disappearing. Then finally, the watching came to a close when Jason's quest finally began.
You weren't oblivious, you knew he was watching you. When he was gone, you missed his attention. To be fair he was a pretty nice sight as well, nice on the eyes. So you just decided, fuck it. YOLO !!!
Jason had gotten back from his quest this morning, and now it was almost time for bed. You jumped back in your trusted shadow and quickly made your way toward the Zeus cabin, slipping in from under the door. When you made your way in, you saw Jason sitting in his bed, and you walked out from the wall next to him.
"Hey there Roman boy." He jumped, just like the first time you scared him like that.
"You gotta stop scaring me like that."
"I like to keep people on their toes, it's fun."
"Almost gave me a heart attack."
"You literally just saved Hera's life from Gaia, I think you can handle me popping in on random." You smiled and plopped down criss-cross applesauce on Jason's bed. "That quest of yours sounded kind of funny anyways."
"What are you doing here anyways?" Jason would be lying if he said he didn't think about you once or twice while he was away.
"I was kinda bored. Missed having you follow me around." You snickered as Jason went a little red.
"I don't know what you talking about."
"You can't out stalk and stalker Jasonnnn," you chuckled, "your an interesting one you mini gladiator."
"I know I'm Roman but I'm not gladiator," Jason said in a matter-of-fact tone. You held up your hands in a fake surrender.
"Well my apologies. Anyways, what was it like saving the world," you never had a quest of your own, so listening to Jason talk about it was really interesting. You guys continued to talk until you realized how late it had gotten. You said your goodnights and you swung yourself under Jason's bed and disappeared. This was something Jason found to be really cool, and it was something that really drew him in to you.
Over the next few months you and Jason continued to talk and grow into friends. You may have been a little weird, but you were a sensible woman. Jason's loyalty, his leadership skills, his good morals, he was just such a genuine and kind hearted person. How could you have not fallen for him?
Thankfully the feeling was mutual. You were such an extroverted girl with a strong sense of adventure and outgoing energy. Jason just couldn't stay away, and despite what his father thought, Jason went on to ask the Nyx girl to be his girlfriend.
As weeks go on, everything is going perfect. Until Jason gets an unexpected visitor.
After practicing at the sword area, Jason makes his way back to his cabin to rest for a little before dinner. Except when he opens the door, he sees the last person he would've ever expected to see.
Hera.
"Well if it isn't Jupiter's favorite. What a lovely surprise." She smiled down a Jason, though it clearly was not a warm smile.
"Surprise..? This is my cabin.?" If Hera was offended by the comment, she didn't show it. Jason was confused as to why she was here, then he heard a noise from under his bed (where its dark), and he thought there couldn't have been a worse time for his girlfriend to show up.
"Ah, the special Nyx girl. Aphrodite has mentioned you in passing you know," Hera mused.
"Hope it was all good things.." You were just as confused as Jason. You looked at him and he just shrugged, and he honestly looked to nervous to ask. To be fair Jason was the result of her husbands affair, best to be careful. "Sooo, whatcha doing here?"
"Just wanted to see it for myself. My husband's child whom he had with another woman is dating a daughter of the one person he fears. Isn't that funny?" Hera chuckled but it didn't seem super friendly. You couldn't help but chuckle a little bit as well, Jason didn't know whether or not he too should also chuckle. In a bit of a pickle one would say.
"Seems like karma to me," you shrugged. Hera smirked and walked up to the both of you and held your hands in hers.
"Glad to hear you say that. Close your eyes." You both felt the room move around, and suddenly there was noise. You both opened your eyes and you gawked at the sight in front of you.
Olympus.
"Thought a nice little-" she paused for a second, "family.. dinner, was in order. It is only customary to introduce your girlfriend to your family, your father." Hera smiled as she dragged the two of you to the biggest room you've ever seen. There was a long table with four seats, though it probably could've fit maybe six. On the table there was so much food you thought you were gonna have to roll your way to the exit. And who was sitting at the head of the table? Zeus!!!!
"Hera, have you finally brought these secret guests of yours? I'm starving-" when he turned his head, he was shocked to see who Hera's 'guests' were. His eyes visibly widened when they landed on you. "What are these demigods doing here?"
Hera started leading the couple toward the table, motioning for them to take a seat. "I just thought you would've liked to meet your sons girlfriend." Hera seemed very amused with the situation in front of her. Oh how she loved to stir the pot.
Zeus cleared his throat, "Let's just eat shall we." Dinner was kind of awkward. Hera was leading the 'conversation,' which wasn't much of a conversation. While you were eating you went to reach for another piece of bread, you saw Zeus slightly flinched enough for everyone at the table to notice. Jason looked down at his plate trying to suppress a smile, but you on the other hand? Not as secretive in the slightest.
"Did you just flinch when I reached over for bread?" You tried not to laugh as you spoke.
"Are you speaking to me with disrespect?"
"It was a simple question?"
"Why must you bring this disrespectful girl to my dinner table?"
"Dad, that girl is my girlfriend." Jason spoke up, causing you to smile in your seat.
"And why must you choose a daughter of NYX as your.. girlfriend?" Zeus rolled his eyes, but you could see him slightly leaning away from you.
"Sucks when the people you care for fall for someone against your wishes isn't it," Hera said as she took a long sip of her wine while simultaneously stunning the table to silence with her one liner.
"Well," Jason started to stand, "It's getting late. Thanks for the dinner, but it's time we start heading back."
'Right as it was getting juicy' you thought to yourself. Still, you agreed and reluctantly stood up along with Jason.
"Fine, if you insist. HERMES!" Hera yelled out, and he quickly appeared.
"Hera?" He questioned, then saw the two demigods by the table. "Need me to take them back to camp for you?"
"If you'd be so kind, I'm just too tired to do it myself," she said as she continued to drink her wine. Thankfully he was so kind, because the two of you were now standing back in Jason's cabin. You looked at each other so confused with how to evening unraveled.
"Well that was.. something." Jason said. You couldn't help yourself and just doubled over in laughter. Something about your laughter was so contagious Jason just had to join in.
"Oh my gods the way your dad flinched when I lifted my hand" you choked out between laughs. You fell over into Jasons bed and was rolling around laughing, while Jason just took a seat next to you. You started to calm down and just stared at Jason as he stared at you. You then sat up and leaned toward Jason.
Sadly, your plans to make out with your boyfriend were ruined by Chiron bursting though the doors asking why the two of you have missed dinner!!!!
Idk if you’ve gotten this ask before, but is there anything you would have changed if you wrote pjo/hoo/toa? And how would you have written it?
never gotten this ask before! and oh man, yeah, there are some things i would change. i wouldn't call myself someone who does analysis on their favorite media (at least i don't do it very often) i just read/watch and enjoy, unless there's something that seriously strikes me as Kind of Very Weird. half the time i don't mind occasional bad writing if i enjoy the media very much, which is the case with pjo, but again, there are some things that were odd to me lol. keep in mind it's been a while since i've reread so these are just things i remember vividly as being something i very much didn't like/understand.
percy jackson and the olympians:
that whole 'entwining history' with pjo thing felt weird to me: like with harriet tubman being called a child of hermes? for one, it feels unnecessary, and two, it feels as though all the things she's done, all of her bravery, wit, courage, are being attributed to her demigod status, as hermes is the god of travelers, cunning, roads, etc. it feels insensitive and not handled very well. there's also a blurb that mentions that hitler was a child of hades, that world war II was a conflict of the big three, and that the civil war was a roman vs greek conflict - again, these all just feel so insensitive to the actual historical events that occurred, ascribing all that violence and catastrophe to a squabble between the children of the big three when the actual causes of these events were so much more complicated and deep-rooted. i believe it was an attempt at trying to see where the gods fit in the modern tapestry, but i don't think actual history needs to be bastardized in order to write smth like that. there's also the issue with the "western civilization" narrative portrayed in the story, but i don't feel like i could even adequately sum up the issue here.
the fix-it: just. don't have the historical stuff? the insertion of demigods in wwII is supposed to show the destruction of these big three children in battle, and the later prophecy would supposedly give more reasoning as to why the big three can't have children. but why not just have the prophecy recited before wwII and cut out the 'oh demigods partook in wwII" nonsense? [before the war, after the diangelos are born] the gods have already witnessed wars that actual demigods took part in, such as the trojan war, and saw how terrible those effects were. and there were hardly any big three kids in that battle that were main players. if demigods who weren't of big three ancestry caused that much destruction, wouldn't that be apt enough reason, along with the ominous prophecy, not to give birth to any kids? especially because greek mythology is rife with sons trying to overturn their fathers, and said fathers trying to overturn that future. that itself gives perfect context for why this child-making ban would be introduced, and why zeus especially would enforce it (ex. attempted murder of the diangelos) because. he's literally the "son who overturned his father" (kronos.)
luke having romantic feelings for annabeth: why. why. when i was reading the series i always assumed he had spared annabeth because of their familial ties, but in staff of hermes percy describes their relationship as "luke later gaining feelings for her" which...why? lmao
the fix-it: luke does love annabeth, but as a younger sister, and it is that sibling love that makes him spare her all the times he did, and inevitably helps him break from kronos' hold. i think it's much more meaningful, makes more sense [ties into the threeway "family" conflict between thalia, luke, and annabeth], and obviously isn't weird to think about it like the aforementioned canon dynamic.
heroes of olympus:
portrayal of poc characters: now, i'm going to be honest, when i first read hazel's description, i never thought there was anything wrong with it. my rationale for this was "oh, golden eyes because she controls minerals" however many people have brought up how this feeds into the exotic poc caricature. while many characters have oddly colored eyes, i haven't done enough in depth research on the history of written poc characters and their applied descriptors, i don't want to minimize what could be a genuine issue. on another note, while i don't claim to be an expert on native american culture and tradition, i am aware of the numerous claims that native american pjo fans have made about piper, especially her wearing feathers in her hair. i think in her case it's very much cut and dry; rick didn't do his research regarding her heritage, at least in the earlier books.
the fix-it: research.
portrayal of medea (and other mythological characters): in the lost hero, medea is portrayed as a "blood-thirsty psycho," all while ignoring the terrible way jason (from the mythos, not Grace) treated her and the hardships that she went through. and that is my point - pjo does subvert some tropes, like hades being the villain [although given the fact that it is also canon his children were on the axis side, well.] but many times it falls into the same overused narratives, like medusa being characterized as the killer when in reality she was born a gorgon and often visited by heroes who wanted to kill her for glory [the version where she was a priestess was written by ovid, and ovid seems to have a passionate hatred for athena and women in general, as can be seen in his retellings.] i can understand this in pjo, but i think heroes of olympus truly would have benefited from more nuanced characterizations.
the fix it: research!
di angelo's Otherness + the ooc behavior of characters: one detail i always remember is how leo and piper behaved around nico, and the apparent...teasing? bullying? that went on behind his back - at least, it's alluded to that they both make some not-so-nice remarks about him. and it doesn't make sense to me, especially when leo and piper are both victims of bullying, have been judged for their appearance, etc. leo's literal first scene is him making fun of a bully [dylan] to jason, and in the mark of athena, when he and hazel see the vision of sammy making fun of one of hazel's bullies, leo mentions that he used to do that all the time. i think having leo and piper behave this way was supposed to emphasize nico's "not-belonging" within the argo II environment, but why at the sake of their characters? additionally, the scene were he does make those comments seems another way to frame jason as nico's "ally" [which the fandom loves to do while ignoring jason's actions towards nico in general, but that's a whole other thing lmao.]
the fix-it: don't include that post-cupid jason + leo + piper scene. there was already a layer of distrust between that group and nico, which is enough to emphasize a divide.
the detriment of caleo on leo's character arc: romance is everywhere it doesn't need to be in this second series. everyone is with someone, for better or for worse. however, while relationships like jasper and frazel are either unnecessary or badly developed, there is no relationship, i think, that is as detrimental to a character's arc as caleo is to leo. i won't be doing a deep-dive, as there are other posts on this site that delve into the issue better than i could, but i wanted to list it as one of my biggest gripes - it basically takes all his struggles with self and decides to give him a girlfriend as a shoddy fix-all.
the fix-it: there are a lot of ways you could go about rewriting this, but i'd have calypso be freed after the second titanomachy, join the hunters as her sister did - that way she could retain her immortality - and travel the world with them. khione would blast leo off the ship - maybe he gets injured and has to find his way back, thinking all the while that his friends have probably moved on, but he finds that they're all still there, desperately searching. he tells them they should have moved on, and they'd say that they aren't leaving him behind, that he's important to them more than to the mission, etc. although i think for this to work other dynamics would need to be tweaked - [no jasper after the first book; focus is instead on strengthening the lost trio's friendship throughout the rest of the book.]
the ending + gaea: i think it's a general fandom consensus that the ending for blood of olympus left much to be desired. the final battle felt so rushed and...didn't make much sense to me? how do you lift a being who is the earth...out of the earth...? and that's the main issue with me, honestly. how do you defeat the earth? there was that whole "scatter her essence" blurb at the end of the book, but that also didn't make much sense to me. gaea as a villain seemed like a bad choice because a.) her rising up to destory the olympians because of their treatment of her children is a repeat of the gigantomachy, just as pjo is a second titanomachy. it feels like the same narrative is being recycled, and b.) because she is the earth. a primordial being. i don't know how to re-hash this, but it's simply unrealistic to have a band of teenagers defeat an entity as old and powerful in a handful of chapters.
the fix-it: different villain entirely! at least, that's what i would do, because i can't think of a way to destroy the earth that doesn't involve actively poisoning it/j. there are a plethora of interesting mythological figures who would make for good antagonists, and also shed light on issues besides the ones pjo already touched on.
trials of apollo: i have not reread this series in a long while, and unlike the others can't remember as vividly the details, but the thing i remember bothering me the most occured in the dark prophecy, in which two lesbian hunters of artemis describe how they had to leave the hunters on account of their relationship. @solisaureus has an in-depth post about this which effectively sums up the issues and goes into other problems with the hunters, and i think they break it down better than i do, so go check that out!
the sun and the star:
pacing: i enjoyed the book but did feel like it was paced weirdly - for a book all about a couple journeying into tartarus, they only entered tartarus during the last hundred pages. i think this contributes to the bad fight at the ending, too, as it felt very rushed. i think having the couple spend a lot of time in the underworld was supposed to establish will's discomfort and the later conflict, but three hundred pages is a bit much. i also find it difficult to believe that nyx, the literal definition of night, was defeated so quickly, or defeated at all. i did enjoy her as a villain more than i did gaea, but i had the same problem of being dissatisfied with the ending battle.
the fix-it: i feel like having the villain be akhlys would make sense. as the goddess of misery, she might want to convince nico that grief is eternal, inescapable, and that he may as well succumb to a life of tragedy. buuut that would also mean no cocoa puffs. and i like the cocoa puffs - so this one is a bit up in the air for me!
plague will: this is personal to me because i love this headcanon and when it became canon i was all "oh, woah" but then it was. never brought up again lmao.
the fix-it: have him use it earlier in the book [perhaps discover it when he goes out by himself] and try to suppress it, but eventually learn that his negative emotions + memories - "darkness" - shouldn't be suppressed, but rather released; that those aren't things to fear. or at least have him talk about it later with nico and try to sort out what their existence means for him. [there are other problems with tsats that people did bring up, but i don't actually have issues with them - i.e. "the first kiss," "coming-out scene," continuity errors, etc. the coming out scene is especially controversial, but my only issue with that is that nico asked out will without considering will's closeted status. the continuity errors aren't really something to dedicate a whole bullet point to, seeing as rick's timeline is eternally convoluted and just not worth getting irritated over at this point.]
if you want me to elaborate on any of these in a second post i can! thanks for the ask!
drop the champagne
5 times annabeth taught percy something new + a million times he taught her the same thing
-
title is from the In the Heights song 'champagne' by lin manuel-miranda. mostly a nod to how similar usnavi and vanessa's dynamic is to percabeth. also another excuse to scream about them after watching the trailer a million times
also on ao3
1.
Dozens of kids were wandering around the grounds of Camp Half Blood as they waited for capture the flag to start, and Percy could not for the life of him figure out what was wrong with his armor. He'd been fiddling with it for five minutes now, somehow not drawing the attention of any counselors or even the Athena cabin who he was allied with. After the last capture the flag (still his only capture the flag), he was really starting to get worried. If he successfully completed a quest and died because he couldn't get his armor right for a 'friendly war game', he was gonna be seriously ticked.
Just to see what it would do, he pulled on a strap near his shoulder. For a few seconds, it stayed in place, and he really thought he'd finally gotten it. Then it unraveled completely, and he barely managed to grab it before it hit the ground.
He might as well face it. He was dead, and Chiron was gonna have to tell his mom that he, Poseidon's first child in decades, quester, retriever of Zeus' master bolt, died in a capture the flag accident.
Feeling particularly frustrated, he didn't notice when someone finally saw his dilemma and walked over, not until her blond curls were right in his face.
"You haven't figured out how to do this yet?" she asked. It was hard not to feel a little insulted by her tone, but he had come to realize that she didn't mean anything by it. She just hadn't learned tact yet. (And she'd never admit it, but Annabeth still hadn't quite recovered from the quest and Luke's subsequent betrayal. He could let this one slide for her sake.)
"I've only done it once," he said, "and you did it for me!"
So maybe he wasn't too great at tact either.
She grabbed a strap and started redoing his armor while he watched. "If I keep doing it for you, you'll never learn," she pointed out. "Here." She grabbed his hand and guided it to the other strap. "You try."
He sighed but did as he was told. It didn't look as good as the one she did, but he had to admit it looked and felt much better than before.
"Told you."
He stuck his tongue out at her. Then, since his mom raised a gentleman, he said, "Thanks."
She patted his shoulder. "Thank me when we win."
2.
Percy watched, transfixed, as Annabeth slashed and stabbed, nothing but a vaguely blond whirl, beating some brown haired guy back to the mats until she pinned him down, 90 pounds of pure fury on top of at least 150 pounds of startled teenage boy.
The guy - Percy wasn't sure of his name - tapped out, and Annabeth quickly jumped up, eyes already scanning for her next victim. "Who's next?" she said.
The majority of the people in the training room scurried out after that.
"Cowards," Annabeth muttered and turned to a training dummy.
Percy watched her slash at it for a few minutes, and then, in a courageous move he thought would make his mom proud, he tentatively stepped forward. "Maybe you should take a break," he said with false calm.
She ignored him.
"Annabeth, you're scaring people," he tried, gulping when she tore a large chunk of fake flesh from the dummy. "You're already the best here, why don't you just-"
"Take a break?" she said, finally turning to meet his gaze. Her eyes were blazing, and he had to duck to avoid the dagger still in her hand.
"You've been here for hours-"
"How else will I beat Luke?" she asked. "He's the best swordsman for generations. I have to train as much as I can."
The situation was far worse than he thought. "And you're the best strategist, and you've beat everyone at camp already." Hopefully, appealing to her hubris would help.
It didn't. Her face closed off completely. "But I've never beat Luke."
He didn't ask if she was sure that she even wanted to beat him. He wasn't sure he wanted to know the answer.
Fine. Time to pull out the big guns. "I'll spar with you."
He held his breath as she gave him a disbelieving look. "Alright, but you're using a dagger."
"Oh. Uh-"
But she was already walking over to the weapons rack. "You need to learn how to use more than one weapon. You won't be able to use a sword in every situation."
"Isn't the whole point of having a sword that reappears in my pocket no matter what is so that I can use it in every situation?"
She gave him a look that clearly said, You're being an idiot. "What if you're in super close quarters and can't maneuver Riptide? What if you can't get to your pocket? What if someone manages to take it from you? What if you don't have pockets? What if-"
He held up a hand, because, holy crap. "Okay, okay, I get it." She smirked. "Teach me how to use a dagger."
With a certain gleam in her eyes he didn't really like, she grabbed one off the rack and handed it to him.
He gripped it on instinct, balancing it out and dropping into a fighting stance. "Is there anything - oh my gods!"
She didn't wait to give him any instruction before slashing at him with her own dagger, and he barely jumped out of its path. (Thank the gods for his ingrained battle instincts.)
He backed up as she continued her assault and narrowly avoided tripping over his own feet. Then, she delivered a particularly nasty jab, distracting him, and kicked his feet out from under him. His breath whooshed out as his back hit the ground.
"I win," she announced, her ponytail falling and hitting him in the face. Her dagger was pressed against his neck. "You're not guarding yourself enough. Remember, the dagger is shorter than your sword. And you need to actually defend yourself, not just back up."
He made a face at her. "A little warning would have helped."
"There's no warning in battle." She stood and offered him a hand. "Again."
So he got up, and they went again. And again. And again. She beat him every time, but when he came back the next day, he beat the trainer on duty, and Annabeth slept until 9.
That was a win in his book.
3.
"That's so unstable," Annabeth commented, looking at Percy's gingerbread house which, admittedly, looked about 10 seconds from collapsing.
"It doesn't have to be stable," he said. "It's supposed to be fun!"
She snorted. "Fun is for losers and quitters."
Her gingerbread house didn't look like it was about to fall over. Hers was two stories tall with multiple rooms like a doll house and emblazoned with various candy designs: gumdrops on the roof, M&Ms dotting the grounds like gravel, a licorice moat. His was basically five graham crackers in a vague house shape sitting on chocolate icing.
He didn't mind though. They got to eat it in the end no matter what their houses looked like.
Pointedly ignoring her, he stuck a Kit-Kat straight up on the top graham cracker. It stayed for a second, then toppled into the brown icing like a stick in a mud pit.
"Oh, for the gods' sake," Annabeth muttered. She pulled his plate toward her and started rebuilding his little shack.
"Hey, I'm doing just fine," he protested, but one look from Annabeth had him cracking up. "Fine, so it sucks."
"Really sucks." He rolled his eyes, but she kept working until he had a quality graham cracker cabin with standing walls and everything. "See, you don't actually need that much icing to get it to stay. You just need better support."
He made an offended noise. "But that's the best part!"
He knew what she was going to say the second she opened her mouth. "The best part is winning first place."
Before he could retort, he happened to glance up at Grover sitting across from them and couldn't help but notice the look in his eyes. It was somewhere between exasperated and fond.
"What?" Percy asked.
He never heard the answer, however, as the Stolls chose that moment to start a food fight.
And Annabeth's house won first place, because of course it did.
4.
They were lucky, very lucky, to have been walking past the park at the exact time they did. They were also very lucky (or unlucky; jury was still out) to have drawn the attention of the monster to them and away from the large group of children it had apparently been hunting.
"I smell children," the monster whispered, evidently still trying to hide herself. She was semi-transparent, ghostly, actually, with dark hair flowing down her back like a mane. "Such delicious demigods." She continued to amble after Percy and Annabeth as they led her away from the various crowds of people in the park.
Percy turned to Annabeth with a false sense of calm and asked, "What the hell is this thing?"
She glanced behind her surreptitiously. "I think she's Mormo."
"What - like in Utah?"
"Not Mormon, Seaweed Brain, Mormo."
Percy fiddled with Riptide in his pocket. "What's her deal?"
"Sources are sparse and a little conflicted, but basically, she eats kids."
"Oh, shit."
"Yeah, she also might be able to shape shift into a wolf or a horse."
"That's..."
"Wild, I know."
They made it to a relatively empty part of the park, and Percy decided he didn't want to wait to find out if she could shape shift or not. He caught Annabeth's eye and she nodded, already knowing the plan. He would distract while she snuck up from behind. Nothing they hadn't done a million times before.
He turned around. "Hey, lady! Eat this!" Without preamble, he uncapped Riptide and swung out at Mormo, hoping for the element of surprise.
Unfortunately, she ducked.
"So delicious," she muttered. Her form rippled. "The ichor in your blood will taste so good."
Behind her, Annabeth crept up slowly but surely.
"Nah, I don't think ichor would taste that good," Percy said. "Probably too spicy." Now, he was actually wondering if that was true.
Mormo laughed, a sharp, loud sound. "You have no idea child." She sniffed. "You are 16. What a delicious age."
He wanted to protest and say that so far, 16 hadn't been all that great barring him and Annabeth finally starting to date, but his girlfriend was less than two feet away from jumping the monster, so instead he said, "That's so creepy," and watched gleefully as Annabeth leapt forward with her dagger out and sent Mormo back to Tartarus.
Even covered in monster dust, she was still stunning. He held out his hand. "Let's go finish our date."
5.
When Percy got to the New Rome library, his girlfriend was, predictably, surrounded by books.
"Hey, babe," he murmured.
He knew she had been aware of him coming, spatial awareness having become its own sixth sense over the years, so it was no surprise when she responded with nothing but an unintelligible chain of vowel sounds.
He laughed. "You ready to go home?"
A couple years, there would have been no point at all in trying to break through whatever cloud of work was occupying her mind at the moment, but she'd been really trying since the Giant War to not push herself past the point of no return.
"Um..." She put a bookmark in her textbook and started gathering books into her arms. "Yeah, let's go."
"What all are you checking out?" he asked even though he already knew the answer.
"All of them."
He grabbed the remaining books while she picked up her backpack, and they made their way to the front desk.
"What were you reading about?" he asked. He may have just come out of a day full of lectures, but her eyes lighting up like that made the long-ass rant he was about to get so worth it.
"The father of chemistry, Antoine Lavoisier," she answered. "He was alive during the French Revolution and did all kinds of stuff that paved the way for modern science."
They reached the circulation desk, and Annabeth continued telling him all about phlogiston theory and how Lavoisier refuted it, and about oxygen and hydrogen and carbon, and about his experiment to see what two weeks of drinking nothing but milk would do to his body.
At some point, the librarian gave them a funny look. Percy wasn't sure if it was because of the topic of their conversation or because they were checking out so many books.
Whatever. They earned the right to be weird in public.
"...and then he was guillotined for being a tax collector!" she finished with immense outrage.
He frowned and pushed the door open into the lamp-lit road. "Really?" That was not where he was expecting that story to go.
"Yeah, the Reign of Terror chopped his head off, which was a real shame because he was actually involved in a lot of government reform and other kinds of activism, especially in education."
"Cool."
"Yeah, I thought so." She bit her lip. "I guess the good guys don't always win."
He thought that was a little black and white since Lavoisier was a member of the upper class during a time when the lower class was still called peasants, but it really did sound like this guy was pretty chill.
And she had a good point.
He put a hand on her arm. "But we did."
+1 million
Annabeth shifts in the uncomfortable wooden library chair and turns her page, mind lost in thought. Antoine Lavoisier was an upper class French scientist who revolutionized the field of chemistry; he fought for class reform and education equality, and he brought humans' understanding of the world forward from phlogiston theory, the idea that a fire like element called phlogiston was partially responsible for combustion and present in all combustion reactions, to the discovery of hydrogen, oxygen, and a host of other elements, all unique and important.
And he got his chopped off. So much for scientific advancement.
Sensing Percy walking up behind her, she hurries to read the last few sentences of the page.
"You ready to go home?" he asks.
She closes the book. "Yeah, let's go."
They gather her stuff, Percy not once complaining about having to carry five textbook sized volumes, and make their way to the circulation desk.
"What were you reading about?" he asks. She loves him for that. No one else ever asks what she's reading for fear of getting caught in a long-winded explanation of some complex topic. Percy's eyes may glaze over while she talks, but he never tells her stop.
So she tells him about Lavoisier and all his triumphs and woes up until his decapitation, they end up on the street outside the library. It's nighttime already, their path lit with street lamps and porch lights. There's a chill in the air, so she pulls the sleeves of Percy's borrowed hoodie over her fingers while trying not to drop her books.
After she finishes her spiel, she bites her lip and says, "I guess the good guys don't always win."
Immediately, Percy turns to her, probably thinking the same thing she is, about all their dead friends and all their failures. He puts a hand on her arm, stopping them underneath a light. "But we did."
She looks at him and sees her wonderful boyfriend who loves her no matter what she does, who stayed with her after all this time, who fell into hell for her. The one who would choose her over the world. The one who taught her heart how to trust again. She's not quite sure she believes it, but she knows it's the truth. "I guess we did."
They smile at each other and walk home in comfortable silence.
Athena is an Awful Mother- Yes, Even in the Books
As a child of Athena myself, and as a professional Athena hater, I am honestly shocked at how many people think the show itself made her bad, when to me she was always this bad. The books kind of gloss over the stuff she does, and we’re expected to believe she’s one of the “better” godly parents.
I also think that because most of us read these books when we were 11-12, we didn’t quite actually understand the fucked up shit she was doing, but as I get older, the more I question alot of the the decisions she made as both a parent and a “wisdom goddess.”
Because, yeah, a lot of the decisions were straight up horrible. Like, I don’t think you guys understand that there is more issues to her specific brand of neglect, than most of the other gods.
Spoilers for the books below! Also, this will be talking about Athena in the books, not Greek Myth Athena.
I think my main issue with Athena has always been the way her children came into existence. Because children of Athena are born from thoughts in her mind, born to mortal men she admires. Now, as a child, this didn’t seem as bad, because I didn’t understand the complexities of parenting. I still don’t, but I know a bit more from having friends and peers who have children.. and now I see several issues with this.
First, it’s the idea that even at the beginning, she sees her children as commodities. Her children were made to be “gifts” for men, who she admired. And the messed up part, is based on Frederick’s reaction to Annabeth, she doesn’t actually have enough conversations with these men to know if they’re ready to be fathers. And the fact that men getting their PhDs is something she admires… I’m willing to bet a lot of these men aren’t (getting a PHD is already hard, but add a baby on top of that?!?!).
I still think Frederick’s neglect is his own fault, but to say that Athena cannot be blamed for choosing to have her, and then not even being sure if the man she had her with - who had no choice in the matter- even wanted a child? Yeah, that’s fucked up.
But Athena doesn’t even really care.
And I think that’s what bothers me in particular about Athena’s neglect. Is that she had a choice to have not have the children if she wasn’t going to raise them. She chose to have them, whether or not the men she liked even wanted kids.
But she had them anyways- because, again, she sees her children as a commodity.
Now this isn’t to say she has no redeemable qualities. She helped Annabeth find her way to Camp Half Blood. She gave her that invisibility cap. But here’s the thing- nearly every godly parent is seen helping their children in some form or another, or giving them gifts.
Even the bad ones.
Ares is probably a worse godly parent than Athena… but he still gave Clarisse her spear. Zeus turns Thalia into a tree to save her. And idk, I still feel like we all hate Zeus and Ares as parents.
That being said the Mark of Athena… that is what really confirms every negative thought I’ve had about Athena. That she sees her children as commodities and nothing else. Because as much as we love to try to explain it away by saying that it wasn’t actually Athena, it was Minerva… still Athena. Different form, maybe, but it is implied that these gods hold the same beliefs, so this is something that Athena thinks WHOLEHEARTEDLY.
Annabeth refuses to kill the Romans, and then her mother proceeds to call her nothing and disown her. Because again, Athena sees her children as commodities, nothing more. They are gifts given to men. They are resources for her to use to fight her battles- and this whole scene becomes worse when you considering what she was trying to get Annabeth to do-
To find the Mark of Athena, a quest so many of her children have died on, and yet she proceeds to keep sending her children on these quests. But she doesn’t care how many of her own children die on this quest- her pride is more important.
