Jessie Fleming x Reader
Preview: You and Jessie finally get married, when you get home, your original plans get derailed by your sleepy wife
Warnings: suggestive, mentions of sex (fingering), getting walked in on, no detailed smut, non sexual nudity, showering together,
WC: 1.6k
A/N: this ended up soft and fluffy, I thought about taking it the smut route but I didn’t, sorry I know yall love some smut, I also finished writing this just now and I’m just gonna post it, it’ll edit it if I find errors but it’s very possible they’re in there.
Jessie was practically cackling as she ran down the hallway of your home toward your bedroom with you cradled in her arms.
“If you fall you’re going to get us both hurt Jessie.” You tried to protest when she went to pick you up outside the front door.
“It’ll be fine! Plus it’s a tradition thing.”
“I think the tradition is the groom carries the bride through the door, last time I checked we’re both the bride.”
“Shhh just let me do it.” You had, reluctantly let her pick you up, bridal style, walking you through the door of your house. It only took 3 steps for Jessie to in fact trip over the rug that sat at the entrance.
Thankfully neither of you were hurt, she had managed to catch both herself and you before either of you hit the floor.
“Jessie!”
That’s what set her off laughing. And she couldn’t stop, she was hysterically laughing as she kept moving, using your body to push open the bedroom door. By the time she placed you on the bed you were laughing too. You couldn’t help it, your wife’s laugh was contagious.
“I cannot believe you almost fell.” You shake your head looking up at where she stood next to the bed. Going limp she flops down onto the bed next to you. She’s laying on her stomach, looking at you as you lay on your back, turned to the side to look at your wife.
“Hi wifey.” She whispers to you, the biggest toothy grin across her face.
“Hi wife.” You lean in and kiss her gently.
You both lay, just staring at each other, soaking in the fact that just a few hours ago you had officially gotten married.
The two of you had joked for so long that you practically were married, being together since you were 17 and 18, you had stayed together falling in love with each other more and more as the time went on. Now being 25 and 26 you finally had done it, in front of all your friends and family, you were married.
As you stare at her you notice her eyes starting to flutter closed, then she’d open them with a couple hard blinks, before they’d start to droop again. The sight is adorable, Jessie’s sleepy face gently placed on the bed.
“Let’s go to sleep Jess”
“No, we’re supposed to, ya know, consummate the marriage.” She cracks her eyes enough to look at you and wiggles her eyebrows.
“Babe, I think that tradition is more for people who didn’t sleep together before marriage, we’ve been having sex for like 8 years.”
“But still, we’ve never had sex as wives.”
“What do you call the fingering in the reception bathroom then?” You counter.
You weren’t too proud of it, but something about seeing Jessie in her tuxedo declaring how much she loved you in front of everyone you both cared about, turned you on. You couldn’t help yourself but to whisper some filthy words into Jessie’s ear as both of you sat having dinner. The two of you had snuck off to a bathroom during your reception to have a moment to yourselves, one thing turned into another and before you knew it Jessie had you sitting on the sink, her fingers under your dress and inside of you.
Jessie’s face turned red at the memory.
“That doesn’t count as consummation, no one finished.” She argues with you.
“That’s not my fault, you can thank your sister for that.”
Jessie’s little, but thankfully adult, sister had come looking for both of you. The photographer needed you both for photos with your brand new wedding bands. You thought you had locked the door when you walked in, turns out Jessie had already made an attempt to lock it, meaning you unlocked it. She had looked everywhere, before she opened the bathroom door, seeing her older sister between your thighs, your dress hiked up around your waist and Jessie’s hand between your legs.
“Oh, you two are disgusting.” She clasped her hand over her eyes. “Wash your hands and both of you get out here, the photographer needs you!” Jessie had been mortified, being caught by her sister of all people, she would’ve preferred a teammate. You had laughed it off and dragged your red faced wife out of the bathroom.
The party continued on for a few hours after and while you were still very turned on by your wife, the exhaustion of the day started to sink in not exactly leaving either of you in the mood for what you knew would be multiple rounds of sex.
You watched as Jessie’s eyes continued to flutter shut each time they shut they stay closed for longer and longer until you’re pretty convinced she wasn’t going to open them again.
“Hey,” you gently nudge her shoulder and her eyes crack open. “Let’s go shower and get changed.”
“But I’m so comfortable here.”
“Come on babe, we can have our first shower together as wives.” Saying the word wife and it not being a joke anymore made you smile.
“So cozy in the bed.” She mumbled as her eyes closed again.
“Alright, hang on.” You stand up, moving over to the side of the bed closest to her, you scoop your arms under her shoulders and the other under her knees. She doesn’t protest as you lift her and carry her into the bathroom.
You gently place her on the floor and give her a kiss. “Let’s get you undressed.”
“That’s what I’m talking about.” Jessie smirks at you.
“No, you were just falling asleep on the bed.”
She pouts at you, arms crossed. You gently take her wrists, undoing the cufflinks of her dress shirt and then sliding off her tuxedo coat. Your fingers move to the buttons on her vest, undoing those and helping her remove it. Lastly is her dress shirt, she works from the top down as you work to undo the bottom of her shirt. Your hands meet in the middle and she pulls the shirt off and quickly follows it with her sports bra.
“My beautiful wife.” You lean down placing kisses across her exposed skin. While your mouth stays kissing her chest, your fingers move to her belt, undoing it and sliding it out from her pants. She undoes the button on her slacks and lets them fall to the floor. You hands find the elastic of her boxers and you slowly pull them down. Moving your head from her chest you place kisses along both of her thighs as you remove her underwear.
“You’re turn.” She says, you turn away from her to allow her access to the zipper and ties on your dress.
Jessie’s hands find the top tie and begin undoing the knot. “Have I told you enough how beautiful you look?” She says as her fingers move to the next tie. “Absolutely stunning, you took my breath away.” Her hands then move to the zipper, undoing the rest of the dress. She brings her hands up to where the top of the dress sat. She begins pulling it off of your body, similarly to your actions she brings her lips, placing them on every inch of skin on your back she exposes pulling down your dress.
Jessie extends a hand to you to help you step out and over the dress. “Wow.” She takes the time to look you up and down. You had bought a new set of lingerie for the wedding. It was a lacy white set, one you knew would make your wife crazy. “Where did you get this?” Her fingers work into the straps of the bra.
“Oh you know, just something I had lying around.” You joke with her. Her eyes are locked on your chest. “Quit staring, I’ll put it on again tomorrow for you to fully enjoy.” The comment had Jessie biting her lip, likely thinking of what she’d get to do to you after a good night's sleep.
You move your own hands to your bra, unclasping the back while Jessie’s thumbs hook into your matching panties and pull them down your legs. She comes back up to meet your lips with hers.
You both stay for a second, grinning at each other, both overwhelmed with happiness. You pull away to start the shower, while you wait for it to run warm you pull Jessie into your arms, hugging from behind. You turn the two of you toward the mirror above the vanity.
“Look at my wife.” You point in the mirror at Jessie’s figure in front of you.
“Ehh she’s alright but look at my wife!” She teases you back, pointing at you in the mirror.
“I love you, wife.”
“I love you, wife”
Your arms release her, giving her a quick squeeze with your hand on her shoulders. “Let’s hurry up and shower so we can sleep and then tomorrow we can do all the consummating you want.” You give her a wink and she quickly follows you into the shower, the two of you having a moment of peace and relaxation after the day’s festivities. As you looked at her in the shower, you couldn’t help but think how it was just the two of you, and that was all you would ever need. You and her.

so you don't get lost (steddie ficlet)
written for @steddielovemonth day 17 rating: T cw: alcohol tags: first kiss, clubbing, college au, platonic stobin prompt: Love is about a hand reaching out to you so you don't get lost
“She’s totally into me, right?” Robin asks as they wait for their drinks at the bar, her smile a mile wide, and it’s been a minute since Steve’s seen her smile like that.
“Yeah, totally,” Steve agrees. The girl Robin’s been talking to all night is drifting back over to them even as they speak, the two of them like magnets since they first traded smiles on the dance floor earlier that night.
Robin glances back at her and bites back a wider grin. She bounces on her tippy toes and whispers to Steve, “If I make out with her it’s not gonna make you feel awkward, is it?”
Steve shakes his head. “Go ahead,” he encourages.
It had been a group effort to get Robin out tonight. Her university friends had enlisted Steve to help drag her out of the mopey funk she’d been in since getting broken up with two weeks ago, and it had taken an hour of Steve hyping her up while she kept crying off her attempts to do her makeup before she finally managed to make it to the club. He’s just glad it had been worth it.
“I don’t even know if I remember how to do this,” Robin mutters, a little nervously, as she and Steve grab their drinks and rejoin her friends on the dance floor. But it turns out, she has nothing to worry about. The two girls resume their orbit around each other, and the second the next beat drops and the lights strobe, the other girl finally pulls Robin into a heated kiss. Steve watches this, and he smiles fondly. She deserves it. He’s happy for her.
And he’s totally not jealous. Not necessarily of Robin, obviously, or the girl she’s kissing, but simply of the fact that they’ve so easily found a hot drunk stranger to make out with at the club and he…hasn’t. He can’t even remember the last time he’s had a decent kiss, much less scored at a club, though not for not wanting to.
Steve finds himself glancing at Robin’s friend Eddie, the tatted-up metalhead Steve’s felt a pull towards since the first time they’d met. He thinks about kissing him every time they’re out together, and maybe there was a time when Steve would’ve just gone for it, a time before he’d taken a few too many hits to the ego and developed doubts and insecurities, but now the thought just makes him nervous. Eddie makes him nervous.
He feels that nervousness now as Eddie catches him staring and he shakes those lovely dark curls out of his face and smiles at him. It bubbles in his stomach, flutters in his chest. Steve downs the rest of his drink and looks away. The alcohol floods heat through his veins and blurs his vision, but the ever-present thrum of anxiety just from being in Eddie’s proximity still isn’t dulled. He bobs numbly to the music, avoiding looking at anybody at all now, only staring at the floor or the wall or some super fascinating point just above everyone’s heads, sure he looks like an absolute freak.
It goes beyond just wanting to kiss Eddie; Steve’s not stupid, he knows the only explanation for this sheer amount of nervousness he feels around him is that he’s got an actual, proper crush. Because not only is Eddie super fucking hot, he’s also sweet. Steve is an outsider in this group and he knows it, the college dropout who only tags along because Robin insists on it, but Eddie never makes him feel like that. It’s always Eddie who makes sure he’s included in conversations, always Eddie who makes a point to loop Steve into the context of inside jokes and stories whenever Robin is too distracted to. Steve craves those interactions, gets a thrill every time Eddie so much as speaks to him. So he doesn’t only want to kiss him, he also just wants Eddie to like him, wants him to see him as a friend at the very least. But it’s not like they’ve ever even hung out outside of a group setting, and sometimes Steve fears Eddie’s just being nice and he doesn’t actually see him as anything at all.
Steve’s drifted so far into his own head he doesn’t realize his group is on the move, pushing deeper into the dance floor and leaving him behind.
“Steve!” Eddie’s voice calls out to him and snaps him out of it. Everyone else has been taken by the crowd, but Eddie hangs back, reaching his hand out to Steve.
Steve takes it, swallowing down the way his heart pounds as Eddie’s fingers curl around his hand. Eddie pulls him through the throng of jostling, sweaty bodies, and even though he maintains a tight grip on Steve’s hand, he still keeps looking back at him like he’s making extra sure Steve doesn’t get lost. Warmth blooms in Steve’s chest. Maybe he’s just drunk, maybe he’s just delusional, but all of the sudden he feels so very very cared for.
“Thanks,” Steve says, nearly shouting to be heard over the music.
“‘Course.” Eddie smiles as he turns around to face him. They’ve caught up to their friends now, but he’s still holding Steve’s hand. “I’d never just leave you stranded.”
Of course he wouldn’t. He never has before. Steve just smiles back and squeezes Eddie’s hand.
They’ve only just let go of each other when Robin and her girl, still kissing clumsily and staggering about the dance floor, stumble straight into Steve and knock him off balance. “Woah!” Eddie reaches for him again instantly, looping an arm around Steve’s waist to keep him from toppling over or careening into the crowd.
“Ah! Sorry!” Robin giggles before she’s whisked away again.
Eddie laughs. “Good for her, right?”
“Yeah, good for her,” Steve says, watching his best friend spin out of sight, and when he looks back he startles at how close he and Eddie are, suddenly very aware of Eddie’s arm around his waist and his hands on Eddie’s chest.
“You okay?” Eddie asks, his grip on Steve tightening like he means to steady him.
“Yeah, thanks again.” Steve regains his footing, but he doesn’t pull away. There’s something there, he thinks, in the way Eddie’s always reaching out to him so he doesn’t get lost, literally and figuratively, in crowds and conversations. It could just be friendly, it could just be nothing, but for the first time, Steve lets himself hope. He even thinks about leaning in right now, but then he thinks about it too much, and he doesn’t.
Instead, there’s a weird moment where they’re both just staring at each other. Eddie’s got this confused little smile on his face like he’s waiting to see what Steve will do, and when Steve doesn’t do anything, Eddie’s smile abruptly becomes more playful as if he’s trying to break the tension, and he starts theatrically swaying them to the music, even though it is most definitely not the swaying sort of beat. Steve laughs, his racing heart making it come out giddy and giggly, especially when Eddie drops his waist to grab his hand and twirl him around.
Eddie pulls him in close again then, and this time Steve doesn’t think at all. In fact, it’s unclear which one of them leans in first; all Steve knows is that their lips finally, finally meet in the middle and he finally, finally gets to tangle his hands in Eddie’s hair, and it’s sweet and it’s hungry and it’s absolutely perfect. Steve holds onto Eddie and he gets lost in him.
When Steve meets back up with Robin outside after the club closes, they exchange a celebratory, congratulatory high five, the both of them with matching kiss-swollen lips and dates set for next week.

Remember me? (Part 17)
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12 Part 13 Part 14 Part 15 Part 16
Summary: Under the Mountain, Y/n met the High Lord of the Night Court, Rhysand. She was scared of him, but soon she found out that he wasn't who he pretended to be. Despite her efforts at not falling in love with him, she fails. It's not that bad as he loves her back.
But now he's gone, and she's left alone with nothing.
Except for a very adorable reminder of him.
•○●⛦●○•
Tw: secret pregnancy, none more that I can think of, so let me know if I need to add anything.
A/n: eh. i dont know. this was going to be longer, but then i decided to let it be. kinda filler i guess. not much happening.
enjoy!
•○🌑○•
The gasps and looks Eris and Y/n's third dance had received would forever be embedded in her mind.
Y/n would have given herself a judging look if she could if she was being honest. She didn't know what she was thinking when she told him she wanted to continue dancing.
Almost an hour after their dance ended, she was still wondering and chastising herself.
People were still looking at her strangely, but that she could not care less about.
Was he asking me to marry him?
Y/n ignored the thought the moment she had it.
Despite her attempts to quell her questions, though, one question kept coming to the forefront of her mind.
Am I in love?
She did not know how to answer, so she either kept trying to stop thinking, or tried to think if she did love him.
Butterflies kept erupting in her stomach, and she desperately tried to stop them from taking flight by washing down several glasses of wine.
Not much help, if she said so herself. But still nonetheless effective in that it made her feel freer. And she felt like she could ignore the others better when she was busy trying to lick the dregs from the bottom of the cup or having a staring match with the few droplets that for some reason refused to leave the cup.
She was not drunk, not by any means. She was just trying to pretend that what happened earlier was planned. Or that it did not matter to her.
A gentle touch to her shoulder brought her out from her current staring match with those bastard droplets that for some reason hated her, and she turned her head around to see who had the audacity to disturb her.
Roland grinned at her, nodding his head towards the raised platforms at the end of the gigantic room where long tables stood with high backed chairs surrounding the length of it. Steam wafted up in tendrils from the food that had been set on them by the servants who now hurried to get out of the way of the haughty autumn court nobles.
There were two platforms, one for all the court nobles, and a higher one for the high lords who would dine together. Only the high lords and a chosen member of their court would sit on the table on the higher platform.
Since Y/n's arrival, two balls had been held. Eris usually chose his highest and most trusted advisor to sit with him in these things. Y/n usually sat at one of the chairs on the lower platforms.
She began to move towards her usual spot when she felt Roland stopping her again. She scowled at Eris's personal guard and oldest friend.
His grin only widened, completely unbothered by her glare, as if she was a harmless little female. She was just about to give him a piece of her mind and show him exactly what she could do when he glanced behind her, trying to contain his smile as he jerked his head to behind her.
She glanced towards where he had nodded to, and found Eris staring at her as he stood next to his chair at the head of the table, his hand on the chair on his right.
Her brows furrowed when she realised his advisor was nowhere nearby.
She glanced around, wondering if he was not attending, but to her surprise, she found him sitting on one of the table on the lower platform, muttering in low tones. By the looks of it, he was not very happy with the seat arrangements.
She turned to Eris questioningly.
He simply pulled out the chair to his right, one that was always reserved for the highest ranking official after the high lord himself.
Only after a moment did she realise that he was waiting for her to sit in it.
Her eyes widening, she looked behind her to Roland, something akin to panic festering under her skin.
He simply nudged her lightly with a hand to her back, and Y/n turned forward again, telling herself she would kill him the first chance she got.
She clutched at the soft, velvety fabric of her skirts as she walked forward, a hush falling over the room as everyone again stared at her as she passed the empty chairs, and then continued on until she stepped onto the higher platform.
At this point, everyone had definitely realised that the high lord had removed the advisor from his normal seat to have someone who was not even a member of the court sit next to him.
She stared at Eris the whole time, wondering what he was playing at.
He did not look away either, simply moving away for her to sit.
He pretended as if nothing happened, toasting to unity of the courts against all evil and things Y/n did not bother to listen to. It was only some courtly bullshit, she knew.
She knew she could not listen and focus even if she tried. She was too busy thinking about what he had done.
After a few moments, everyone dug into the dish. It was a small piece of spiced chicken placed in a crunchy and edible bowl like structure, drizzled with a slightly sweet and sour sauce.
The high lords chatted among themselves. The couple from winter court sat next to Y/n, the lord simply staring at his wife as she chatted with Morrigan, who sat next to her.
Directly across Y/n sat the high lord of day court, his boisterous laugh at something Eris said echoing slightly from the high walls and ceiling of the room. Y/n simply waited, chewing slowly as she contemplated how she would talk to Eris about it.
Eris gave his signature cruel lord smirk to Helion when he said something. Then Helion tuned away to say something to the High lord of dawn court, and Y/n took that as he chance to give Eris a piece of her mind.
She slowly ran her heeled toes against the nearest leg she could find, trying to see if it was Eris. She was sure it was Eris, she was just making sure.
Eris paused his chewing, his eyes moving from his half eaten plate to her. He rose a brow.
If Y/n didn't know better, she would have thought he began blushing too.
She then pulled back her leg, and after waiting a moment, she kicked him. He jerked and jumped in his seat, biting his lip. He tried to recover by pretending nothing happened and taking another bite of the chicken on his plate. After he was sure no one had seen him caught off guard, he glared at Y/n, betrayal swirling in his eyes.
Y/n smiled at him, wide and unrestrained, before she turned back to the last bite that was left on her plate, the sauce having smeared all over.
Eris said nothing as the servants scurried out from their places against the wall to clear up the tables and then bring everyone a bowl of soup. They were silent, their feet hurrying to get their work done and then go and stand in the shadows again, to not be a bother to the elites of the court who already had a problem with the lower faeries existence.
Y/n smiled and softly thanked the bark skinned fae that placed the soup bowl in front of her. The fae seemed shocked for a moment, before they ducked their head and hurried away.
After the people resumed their eating, Y/n turned to Eris, who glanced at her.
She leaned close to him, and he put his head next to hers to listen to her amid the chatter in the room.
"You might as well marry me right now. Or have you already planned to do it?"
A small smirk made its way onto his mouth, and Y/n chided herself for giving him the chance to tease her. "If that is what you want, I would declare my love for you and marry you, right here, right now, my dear."
Y/n's face heated, and she sat back, avoiding his eyes.
For the rest of the dinner and until all the high lords save for the spring high lord and the night court inner circle left, Y/n avoided him like the plague.

It was calm, absorbing work, you thought, as you diligently wrapped the seeds in tìhawnuwll leaves, securing the ends with care so the wrap would not unravel easily. You had woken before dawn and spent the better part of the morning on all fours, gathering every last seed. Now, your limbs ached from your earlier efforts. But…pxorna seeds were his favourite.
“Leyna! Let’s go!” His voice startled you out of your reverie. Knowing what would happen next, you quickly swiped the wrap behind you, opening your arms to receive Txep just as he barrelled into you. He was a boy of only seven years but you still grunted at the force of the impact.
“Txep, careful!” You warned, glancing back at the food wrap you had spent the last hour carefully preparing. He only pouted, “Leyna, you promised!”
“Promised what—” you began, stopping yourself when you remembered that you were meant to be taking Txep out on your ikran today. He was right, you had promised him, you thought ruefully.
“Txep, I’m sorry, I’ll take you another time, okay?” Your mother, sensing the tantrum that was bound to begin at hearing your words, swooped in, “Come, ma’parultsyip, sa’nu has prepared some yovo fruit for you.” You did not miss the pointed look she shot you over Txep’s shoulder as she gently ushered him over to the pile of peeled yovo fruit.
Looking down guiltily, you resumed your work, carefully arranging the tìhawnuwll leaves around the seeds, sealing the ends of the wrap with some lanutral resin to secure its contents.
Rising from where you had spent the last hour diligently preparing and wrapping the seeds, you ran a hasty hand across your face, wiping away the beads of perspiration that had gathered there. Your hand stopped at the band holding your hair back, fiddling with the beads, hesitating for a moment before pulling the band in a swift motion, your braids spilling across your back and framing your face. That’s better, you thought with a small smile. Sa’nok had always said you looked prettier with your hair down.
You reached for the wrap then, bidding your parents a hurried goodbye before climbing gingerly out of your swaynivi.
Your feet nimbly padded across the boughs of kelutral, your body remembering the familiar path by heart.
Steadying your breaths and patting the wrap secured at your side, you entered the Sully family alcove, greeted immediately by Mo’at, preparing a paste, hands stilling on the pestle when she saw you standing at the archway.
“Oel ngati kameie, Tsahìk,” you greeted, gazing fondly at the older woman. You had once found the woman painfully unnerving, with her enigmatic smiles and piercing stares. However, having recently become one of Mo’at’s apprentices at her request and spending many moons under her tutelage, you now found comfort in her words and even looked forward to your one-on-one lessons.
“What brings you here, my child?” she asked. “Has the txumre’ venom caused you trouble?”
“No, Tsahìk, I—” You hesitated, gently removing the wrap from where you had secured it to your body. “I wanted to bring you the pxorna seeds I had gathered earlier.”
“Ah, how kind of you,” replied Mo’at, adding after a short pause, “My grandson is preparing to leave for morning patrol, so you may want to hurry.” She nodded at the food wrap.
How did she know? Fighting the urge to defend yourself and further incriminate yourself in the process, you hurried past the older woman, not missing the wry smile on her face as she resumed her work.
Stepping into the main alcove, you finally saw the man you had been waiting to see all morning, whose face had given you strength as you performed the strenuous task of gathering the seeds earlier that morning.
“Leyna,” Lo’ak greeted, smiling handsomely at you before spotting the wrap in her hand. “Oh, what have you brought with you?”
“Oh nothing, just some pxorna seeds.”
“Pxorna seeds?” For the second time that morning, you felt yourself being pushed back with the force of another’s body as Lo’ak embraced you gleefully. “Oh, Leyna, this is why I love you!”
Great Mother, he really ought not to say such things to people in delicate states. Fighting to steady your racing heart, you patted his back gently, laughing softly at his reaction. “You and your food,” you muttered, unable to stop the fondness from creeping into your voice.
Lo’ak pulled back then to accept the carefully prepared wrap from your hands and looked down at you. You paused, waiting with bated breath as his gaze stilled. Was this the moment you had been waiting for?
“Wiya, I’m going to be late for patrol and Dad’s going to have my head.” Lo’ak turned away sharply from you, breaking the spell. “Sorry, Leyna, we’ll catch up later, okay?”
Nodding mutely, you watched as he checked for the dagger at his side before rushing out of the main alcove without a second glance. Feeling a little like the wind had been knocked out of you, you turned to leave the same way you had come before a voice stopped you.
“I like pxorna seeds too, you know?” You turned to find Neteyam watching you, his expression inscrutable as always. “Not that you ever asked.”
“There’s enough here for everyone,” you managed, after a long pause. You had played together briefly as children, but it had been a long time since you had spoken at length. Neteyam had always seemed aloof, and the closeness of your families had nothing to ease the distance.
“You know,” he began. “I love my brother—I would fight a palulukan for him—but he’s a bit of a fool, isn’t he?”
Huh. You stared at him, unable to make sense of his words.
“Morning patrol? That’s what he was thinking of?” He continued. “It’s okay to be upset, Leyna,” he added rather unhelpfully.
You finally found your words. “What would I be upset about?”
He gave you a pointed look, waiting for you to say it first.
You bristled at the implication. “By Eywa, I don’t know what it is you speak of but I should be going anyway—”
“Don’t go.” You felt a cool hand clutch at your arm as you turned away. “Stay.”
“What are you—”
“You have feelings for my brother, yes?” He raised an eyebrow at you, adjusting your face gently to look at him properly.
“That’s not any of your concern!” You shot back in a terse whisper, glancing around anxiously, as if expecting a large crowd of onlookers.
“My brother, he doesn’t see it.”
“What?”
“I don’t want to hurt you,” he added, face morphing into one of, dare you say it, concern? “But I know him like the back of my hand.”
“I should go.”
Turning away from Neteyam abruptly, you found yourself mulling over what had been your longest exchange with him since you were children, as your feet traced the familiar path to your family alcove. Patting your cheeks self-consciously before stepping into your family alcove, you let out a small noise of frustration, knowing well that the heat on your cheeks had not waned in the slightest.

“Morning patrol? That’s what he was thinking of? The skxawng!”
“Ka’ni!” You gasped, outrage colouring your voice at your friend’s language.
“What?”
“Lo’ak is not that,” you muttered.
“How many moons have you spent together? How many times have you brought him his favourite food, now?” Ka’ni shook her head. “By Eywa, he’s a blind man if he cannot see it.”
“Would you hush?” You glanced furtively around at the others sitting by the river, noting that none had heard your friend’s outburst.
Pausing for a moment, you added, “I haven’t even told you the rest.”
“There’s more?”
“Neteyam knows,” you began, lowering your voice, “He knows about Lo’ak.”
“Oh, Neteyam.” A lazy smile stretched across Ka’ni’s face. “We were on duty together the other day. By Eywa, the man is so handsome—even hanging upside down—that I almost forgot to catch the tumpasuk berries—” She broke off into an uncontrollable fit of giggles.
“Ka’ni, focus!”
“Sorry, sorry. So, he knows?”
“Mhmm.” Catching the tail with one hand, you ran the blade of your dagger carefully under the skin, removing the scales in a swift stroke of the hand, willing yourself to not drown in the mortification that threatened to engulf you in that very moment.
“What did he say?”
“Oh Ka’ni, I was so embarrassed. Don’t make me say it. He hardly ever speaks to me but this he chooses to say.”
Your friend nudged you again, eyes beseeching.
“He said that Lo’ak ‘didn’t see it’” You finally admitted, the flush returning to your cheeks. As if your heart did not already hurt with that knowledge.
“Kurkung!”
“Ka’ni!” You admonished.
“Well, he is one,” she defended.
“Weren’t you just telling me how handsome he was?” You shot back, waggling your eyebrows at her, finding some mirth in the situation.
“What? Fine, a handsome one then!”
Before they could finish, a voice interrupted them. “Who’s the handsome one? Are you done with the fish?” One of the older women, Nikira, nodded at the mess that lay in front of you.
Flushing with embarrassment, you muttered a quick apology and resumed removing the scales with renewed vigour, not quite meeting her eyes.
***~~***
You left kelutral, hand in hand with Txep, who bounced along happily. You glanced fondly at the boy as he swung your hands between you. His excitement was palpable, as it was the longest he had ever been silent.
Txep had wanted to tame an ikran of his own from the time that he could start speaking, begging endlessly for someone to take him flying. Sa’nok and sempul had been especially protective of little Txep, long after the tawtute had been banished. Finally, he would get to ride with you on Pänu.
Pushing past the leaves in front of you, you pulled Txep forward into the clearing. Letting go of his hand, you stepped forward and emitted a familiar call, the noise gurgling in your throat. You stood in the stillness of the clearing, waiting for the telltale sound of wind whipping as your ikran swooped down from the sky, landing with a soft thud on the shorn grass beneath your feet.
Smiling fondly at the creature, you reached out to run a gentle hand across his face, “Tam tam, Pänu.” He let out a squawk, nuzzling into the palm of your hand.
“Tewti!” Came a startled exclamation from Txep. “He’s so big!”
“He is, isn’t he, Txep?” You smiled. Reaching into the pouch strapped at your side, you pulled out a chunk of yerik meat, feeding it to Pänu.
Txep eagerly accepted the yerik meat, reaching up on his toes to feed Pänu, giggling sweetly when the creature licked his palm as it fed from his hand.
“Going out flying?”
Arranging your face carefully, you turned at the sound of the familiar voice, watching Txep carefully out of the corner of your eye as he continued feeding Pänu. “Yes, we are. What’s it to you?”
Neteyam smiled faintly at your words, unfazed by the hostility in your tone. “Mind if I join?”
Before you could reply, Txep turned from Pänu, catching sight of Neteyam, a smile breaking out on his face before he ran eagerly towards the man. Shaking your head, you watched as Neteyam bent down to catch Txep in his arms. “Neteyam!” He cried gleefully.
“So, can I join?” Neteyam asked, over Txep’s shoulder. “Txep, can I come flying with you and Leyna?” Txep eagerly nodded.
Sighing at the memory of your last conversation and faced with Txep’s pleading face, you nodded tiredly.
Fetching a cloth from the pouch at your side, you beckoned Txep forward. “I’m going to wrap you tightly, okay, Txep? You’ll hold on to me the whole time.”
As you lifted Txep onto Pänu’s back, you heard the familiar sound of an ikran landing, glancing briefly at the patches of green and brown spanning its large body. Tìxtur, you remembered.
“Leyna,” Neteyam called suddenly, his voice lowered.
Sensing that he wished to speak more privately with you, you backed away from Pänu, turning to face him, a questioning expression on your face.
He twisted his hands together as he spoke. “I’m sorry, for the other day. I shouldn’t have said it.”
Your face softened slightly. “It’s okay,” you began slowly. “You didn’t say anything I didn’t already know. It’s stupid, really.”
“No, it’s not stupid. He is.”
You giggled softly despite yourself. Of all the people to soothe your broken heart, Neteyam was the last one you expected. “I didn’t know you cared. I didn’t even realise you noticed my presence. This is the longest we’ve ever spoken, you know?”
Amusement coloured his face. “I pay you plenty of attention. Maybe you are the one who doesn’t notice.”
Narrowing your eyes at the cryptic remark, you opened your mouth to respond only for him to swiftly pull down his ionar, launching Tìxtur into the sky. “Neteyam, you—”
Growling in frustration, you approached Pänu with quick strides, wrapping an impatient, squirming Txep with careful hands before making tsahyelu and urging Pänu to follow Neteyam circling the clearing above you.
“Where are you taking us?” You shouted over the winds, as Neteyam flew away from kelutral in an unfamiliar direction. The man only smiled coyly at you before seemingly urging Tìxtur to fly faster.
Txep let out a joyful squeal as you urged Pänu faster, trailing Tìxtur. Wrapping your free arm around Txep as an extra measure, you puzzled over where Neteyam was taking you, trying to catch a glimpse of a familiar sight in the blurring landscape beneath you.
When Tìxtur eventually slowed, you followed in suit, bringing Pänu to land gently. Unwrapping the cloth that bound Txep to you and placing him on the ground, you took a moment to take in your surroundings for the first time, gasping at the sight.
“By Eywa,” you breathed, eyes travelling over the vast expanse of the land around you, perfectly ensconced between towering mountain ranges on either side. Running along the centre of the land, was a river. You stepped forward, mesmerised by the sight of the water, a vivid lilac, swirling and eddying as it pushed against the rocks that littered the length of the river. You smiled, catching sight of little darts of movement in the water. Txep came forward, similarly affected, pointing excitedly at the flashes of light moving in the water.
“It’s beautiful here, Neteyam,” you praised, turning to find him beaming at you. The unfamiliar sight caused your heart to race and that traitorous blush to return. Turning away self-consciously, you patted your cheeks insistently, willing your cheeks to cool.
Txep tugged on your hand, pulling you closer along the river bank. When his eyes turned up towards you, you saw his question even before he asked. “No swimming, Txep. Look at the water. It’s going too fast.”
Txep pouted. “But, Leyna—”
“Only your feet!”
“Fine!”
You laughed softly as Txep rushed forward, before plopping himself down on the edge clumsily and sticking his feet in the water.
You suddenly felt the heat of another’s body at your back, an involuntary shiver coming over you as Neteyam breath tickled the tips of your ears. “He’s the sweetest little one I’ve ever seen.”
“You should see him when sa’nok prepares teylu, pounces like a palulukan, that one.”
Neteyam laughed amiably. “I don’t doubt it. Tuk was much the same when she was younger.”
The two of you eventually found a comfortable place by the river, content to watch Txep wiggle his toes in the water in the distance and squeal excitedly as the fish swam past him.
“How did you find this place?” You asked, after a long while of silence.
“I like to fly by myself when I can find a spare moment. I usually circle kelutral for a bit and return but one day, I just didn’t stop,” he began. “And then I found this place.”
“So, this is where you disappear off to in the evenings, then?”
He looked surprised.
“I pay attention,” you offered, feigning nonchalance.
“So you do.” He smiled.
Txep called out for them then, beckoning them over to the water.
***~~***
“Don’t you have duties to attend to?” You teased, as Neteyam’s familiar face emerged from the surrounding vegetation. For moons now, he had sought you out, sometimes while you were tutoring Txep in archery or going out for a flight. Other evenings were spent in tranquil conversation in the woods surrounding kelutral, with the two of you even making trips to the valley every so often.
“I’m a quick worker.” He looked around. “Where’s Txep, shouldn’t he be here for his lesson?”
You laughed ruefully. “Oh, Txep. He has finally tired of me and gone to play with his friends.”
“Were you going somewhere?” He nodded at your ionar, which sat ready on your forehead.
“Vitrautral,” you replied. “I was overcome this morning with the urge to seek the Great Mother’s guidance. She has called for me.”
“I’ll come with you,” he said, adding quickly, “Unless you would rather be alone?”
You shook your head, placing some distance between the two of you before emitting the call for your ikran, watching as Neteyam did the same, quickly donning his own ionar. He was a handsome sight, you could not help but think in that moment, eyes lingering on his muscled forearms as he reached to caress Tìxtur’s face gently. Oh, if only Ka’ni could see you now.
Shaking your head as if to rid yourself of the sudden, sensual realisation, you turned to face Pänu, cooing at him as you fed him. It was absurd. Neteyam did not think of you that way. Foolish, foolish girl. Hadn’t you learned your lesson already?
Had you turned around then, you would have caught the way his eyes slowly trailed the soft curves of your chest down to the dip of your waist and lean legs. But you were engrossed in the task of adjusting the saddle on Pänu and his telling gaze went unnoticed.
Climbing on Pänu’s back, you urged him to take flight, Neteyam following closely behind. Slowly, you climbed higher into the sky, leaving kelutral behind you, weaving in and out through ayram alusìng. Turning mid flight to glance at Neteyam, who smiled when he felt your gaze on him before— you gasped, as Tìxtur sped right in Pänu’s direction, stopping only seconds before collison.
“You skxawng, what was that!” You cried out, heart racing, your own fear melding with Pänu’s.
You heard his jovial laughter over the sound of wind buzzing in your ears. Shaking your head, you returned the gesture, urging Pänu to bank gently before making an abrupt turn, pushing Tìxtur right into a cool stream of water, pouring down the edge of a cliff.
You giggled, watching as Neteyam emerged, drenched completely.  Spluttering, he called out, “I deserved that!”
There it was, that feeling, again. Fondness.
***~~***
Landing at vitrautral, you felt an immediate sense of contentment fall over you, keenly aware of the Great Mother’s presence around you. Patting Pänu gently as you dismounted, you glanced over at Neteyam, as he did the same.
With his back turned, you could not help but gaze at the strong set of his body, eyes lingering on the muscles flexing in his back as he tugged at the saddle, breath catching in your throat as he turned slowly, eyes slipping lower down his frame—you were doing it again, foolish girl.
You smiled softly at Neteyam as he approached you, placing your smaller hand in his firm grasp; it was just something you did now. You couldn’t pinpoint when it had started but he always reached for your hand first, sometimes just in passing, absentmindedly caressing the palm of your hand. You felt a familiar frisson of excitement at the contact, heart racing as he wound his fingers through yours. No, not again.
Neteyam led you across the base of the tree, nimbly skipping over the dense network of roots that covered the forest floor. A comfortable silence settled between the two of you as you let your palm slip from his grasp, approaching a cluster of bioluminescent tendrils which swayed gently in the cool evening breeze.
Closing your eyes, you reached behind you for your neural queue, fingers brushing gently down the length of your braid until your fingertips felt the curling tendrils at the end. You brought it forward, eyes briefly opening to watch as the tendrils of your queue melded with that of the tree, both glowing brighter for a moment before settling. Tsaheylu. You took in slow, easy breaths as the familiar sensation settled over you.
You opened your eyes then, eyes adjusting to the changed surroundings, which took on a dreamlike quality, shimmering gently in the fading light of the evening, almost as if you were watching the scene unfolding before you from afar as if it were a—what was it that the olo’eyktan called it? A ‘movie’, that was it.
“Kaltxì, ma’evi. I was beginning to think you had forgotten me.”
You turned sharply, to find yourself faced with an older woman, eyes crinkling as a bright smile graced her face.
“Grandmother,” you cried softly, running into her waiting arms, slotting yourself in the comfort of her embrace. How was it possible that she still smelled the way she always had in life? You breathed in her scent, a comforting blend of spices and apxangrr flour flooding your nostrils. Memories of afternoons spent at her side as child, ‘helping’ her prepare an assortment of cakes for the family rushed to the surface. “I could never forget you. Ngaytxoa, I should have come sooner.”
“Mawey, I am not upset, child,” she said softly. “You are young and you have your own life to live. Let me look at you.” You felt her gently untangle your arms and step back, eyes raking over you not unkindly.
“You look well, child,” she said finally. “You have grown into a beautiful young woman.”
“Irayo,” you managed, squirming slightly under her scrutiny. “I have missed you, Grandmother.”
Reaching for your hands, she invited you to kneel on the ground, coming to sit by your side, brushing back your braids gently with a smile. “I have missed you too, my child.”
Clearing your throat, you began, “I felt the Great Mother’s call. In truth, I have felt her call for many moons now.”
“The Great Mother senses your reluctance, child,” said your grandmother. “There is nothing to fear, she has a path for you, as does she for all her children.”
Feeling slightly chided, you nodded. “I am not a warrior, Grandmother. I have always known that.”
“No, that you are not, child. But your training with the tsahìk has been going well, has it not?”
Eyebrows furrowing in confusion, you nodded slowly. “It has, so I am to be a healer, then?”
A wry smile came across your grandmother. “All things will be revealed in their own time, child. You must be patient and trust in the Great Mother.”
A comfortable silence settled over the pair of you, as you mulled over the implications of her words. You longed for clarity that you knew you would not receive, not yet. But, you trusted in the Great Mother, and had faith that she would not lead you astray. But another thought niggled at you, emerging from the deep recesses of your mind, taunting you once more.
Breathing slowly, you spoke, voice soft, almost inaudible, “And love? Will I have that?”
You could not meet her eyes as you asked the question, eyes trained firmly on your hands instead which twisted nervously in your lap.
Your grandmother’s tinkling laugh reached your ears then. “Am I to be alone then? U-unmated?” You joked, the stutter in your voice undercutting your attempt at nonchalance.
You felt a cool hand caressing your chin, tilting your head to the side. Eyes trained on you, your grandmother spoke again, “I can only tell you what Great Mother wishes for you to know. But your heart need not be so heavy, child. Know that you will not be alone.”
A hopeful glimmer shone in your eyes. “I will find love, then?”
She laughed softly in response, brushing her hand fondly across the curve of your cheek. “Oh child, there is so much yet that you do not understand.”
She stood then, hand slipping from your face as she moved to stand. A sudden panic enveloped you as you noticed the edges of her form flickering, the radiance of her image dullening. You jumped to your feet, reaching for her again, catching her fading hand in yours. “Grandmother—”
“I must go now, child.” She squeezed your hand gently. “But, to answer your question…you already have it.”
“Have what—” You never got to finish the question as her form slipped from your grasp, vanishing into thin air, your palm tingling where her warm hand had rested only seconds ago. You felt a sudden pull then, almost as if someone were dragging your body underwater, the ambient sounds of the forest growing muffled and your vision blurring, sending another surge of panic through you as you fought against the force.
Gasping for breath, you came to on the forest floor, chest heaving as you took in your surroundings. You were no longer knelt on the ground and as the rest of your senses returned, you felt a strong chest at your back and muscled arms holding you in a firm embrace. “Oh, Leyna,” you heard Neteyam say, his relief palpable.  “You scared me.”
You froze as a warm pair of lips pressed against your forehead. “I’m okay,” you croaked, hands coming around to brush against his own where they gripped your waist. “What happened?”
Neteyam let out a shuddering breath, his disquiet evident. “I was praying, then I looked over at you. I knew something was wrong from the way you were shivering. And then, you starting shaking. You—” He broke off with a harsh intake of breath. “You should have seen yourself. Your eyes were open, but you were not seeing anything. I was so scared, I pulled you away.” He nodded at the cluster of bioluminescent tendrils where you had been connected to before, and the end of your braid which lay limply on the forest floor.
Heart clenching at the pain in his voice, you turned in his arms, nuzzling into the crook of his neck. “It’s okay, it’s okay,” you murmured. “I’m here.” You pressed yourself as close as possible to the warmth of his body, feeling his breaths tickle the tips of your ears as he melted into your embrace. Breathing in his familiar scent, you felt a calm wash over you, hoping he gleaned the same comfort in turn from the closeness of your bodies.
You already have it, a hallowed voice whispered.
***~~***
You stood at the gates leading to kelutral, body thrumming with anticipation, accompanied by the other apprentices and a throng of eager spectators awaiting the arrival of the hunting party.
*FLASHBACK*
A shawl wrapped firmly around your shoulders, you quickly descended the central staircase of kelutral. The sky was still dark, the path to the pa’li pen only dimly lit by flickering flames at regular posts. You were normally not an early riser, but today was different. Dawn marked the start of the Great Hunt, and the hunting party would ride out to the river beds encircling kelutral soon.
As second-in-command, Neteyam was due to lead the hunting party in preparation for his eventual assumption of the duties of the leader of the clan. Neteyam was an accomplished hunter with impeccable precision in his aim; you had no doubt that he would succeed in procuring a handsome volume of talioang meat for the clan. It was more so the general chaos that ensued during these hunts that filled your heart with fear. It was not uncommon for hunters to be knocked off their pa’li, or even trampled brutally to the death.
And so, you found yourself sneaking out in the darkness to meet him once more before dawn. Your plans for a clandestine meeting had almost been foiled by Txep; the boy had always been a light-sleeper. Your heart had caught in your throat as he shifted. By the Great Mother’s grace, he had stilled, the sound of his soft snores resuming.
You neared the pa’li pen now, the growing din of voices signalling their presence. Your eyes searched furtively for Neteyam, confusion growing as you failed to locate him.
A hand touched the small of your back then, and you did not need to turn to know who it was. “Neteyam,” you breathed, a smile breaking out on your face. The sight of his handsome face almost instantly assuaging the anxiety that had plagued you in the hours before, turning restlessly in your hammock.
“Leyna,” he greeted, reaching for your hand to lead you away from the rest of the group.
Secluded from prying eyes, you reached for him, arms winding around his broad chest, feeling irrationally annoyed at the firm material of his cummerbund which deprived you of fully feeling his skin against yours. You did not realise it, but your hands were quivering slightly where they gripped the skin of his back.
“Paskalin,” he crooned. “You are shaking.”
“I’m just worried,” you mumbled into the skin of his chest. “It’s dangerous.”
“I know, I know,” he murmured, tightening his hold on you. “But I always come back.”
You said nothing in response, too distracted by the glorious feeling of being in his arms. The affectionate names, embraces, kisses on foreheads and cheeks. Surely, you were not the only one who felt something shifting between the two of you? Your relationship had spent many weeks, many moons really, now teetering on the edge of friendship and something more.
His voice interrupted your stream of thoughts. “Paskalin,” he called again, urging you to look at him. “Do you trust me?”
“Of course.”
“Then, trust that I will come back—” Sensing your immediate objection, he added, “—in good health.”
*END OF FLASHBACK*
The hunting party was late. Dusk was falling rapidly and the air was bereft of the jubilant cries of the returning party, as they transported the day’s kills back to kelutral in preparation for the feast. With every minute that passed in silence, the sense of foreboding that had plagued you since the night before grew more heightened.
“Be calm, sister,” said Olin, one the other apprentices. “They will return soon.”
You, along with Mo’at’s other apprentices, had spent the better part of the last few weeks preparing healing salves, brews and other implements in preparation for this day. But still, it did not feel enough. Something terrible had happened.
Finally, the ground beneath your feet thrummed with vibrations from the pa’li and  you heard the distant calls of the hunting party. A sigh of relief was shared by the group waiting at the gates.
But, when the returning party became visible, your eyes narrowed. Lo’ak was in the front, leading the party, a grim expression on his face. No, no, no, no.
You strode up to the group as they closed in on the gates. “Where is Neteyam?” You demanded, eyes flitting back and forth, scanning for his familiar face. The group parted in the middle slowly, revealing a lone pa’li with—you gasped—Neteyam’s prone body flung across its back. The rider shared Lo’ak’s pained expression as he slowly pulled Neteyam’s body down from the pa’li. You walked slowly towards him, an almost other-worldly experience, as the rest of the world blurred and grew muted in the wake of your horror.
“Neteyam,” you cried softly, kneeling down on the ground next to his form, caressing his face, willing him to wake at the sound of your voice. You felt a wetness drip onto your leg, looking down to see the red liquid drip from his side down to where your knees were pressed against him. A sudden rage flared low in your belly as you perceived the cause of his condition: an arrow lodged in his side.
Standing quickly, you rounded on the group, fury blazing your golden orbs as you addressed them. “Who did this?”
Slowly, with trepidation, one of the men stepped forward, Iren, his stricken expression as good as a confession. “You!” You cried, approaching him in quick strides, only to be obstructed by a solid chest as Lo’ak stopped you, his hands gentle but firm. “Leyna,” he warned. “It was a mistake. He did not mean—”
Snarling, you turned, gesturing for two of the hunters to come closer. “Carry him to the healer’s alcove. He is losing blood while we waste time.”
Iren stepped forward, a silent offer to help on his lips.
Shielding Neteyam’s body with your own, you shook your head furiously. “Kehe,” you hissed. “You have done enough.”
Not waiting to hear his response, you turned to follow the men carrying Neteyam, Olin and the other apprentices close on your heels. Anger was good. Better than the horror that threatened to swallow you whole.
***~~***
With trembling hands, you brushed the fletching of the arrow, knowing what had to be done but grimacing at the thought nonetheless. You wished more than ever that Mo’at was here to guide you but she lay prone on the other side of the wall, having been afflicted herself with a searing fever a few nights before the hunt, and still only in the early stages of recovery. You have trained for this. You can do this.
“Olin,” you guided. “Hold his chest steady as I remove the arrow. He will wake when I start to pull it out and he will shift as it comes out. Any movement could dislodge the arrow and cause more damage.”
Olin nodded slowly, settling her hands on either side of his neck and pressing down with enough force to keep him still. Taking in a deep breath, you began tugging the arrow out of where it had buried itself in Neteyam’s flesh.
He woke soon with a pained moan, hand coming to grip your side painfully as Olin held him down.
With a final pull, you removed the arrow in its entirety, flinging it to the side and reaching for the clean cloths you had laid out by his side. Within seconds, the cloth was soaked with this blood and your heart raced as you reached for more cloths. You sent a silent prayer to Eywa as you knelt by his side. Please save him, I can’t do this without him. I love him.
After what felt like an eternity, you felt the bleeding slow at the site of the wound, noting with relief that he was breathing more steadily than he had been before. Applying a cleansing salve to the site, you fetched your stitching implements. Fortunately, Neteyam had drifted off as the blood clotted at the wound site.
Olin resumed her spot at his side, prepared to restrain him if he woke while you began carefully stitching the wound closed. But, he did not stir, finally succumbing to the exhaustion of the day and his injury. After cleaning and applying a dressing, you slumped back against the alcove wall, feeling drained of almost everything you had.
Just as you closed your eyes, you were startled by the sound of clattering feet as a group of the younger girls burst into the alcove space where you had been treating Neteyam.
“By Eywa, he’s alive!”
“He’s still so handsome, even when he’s hurt!”
“—what a stupid thing to say, how could you—”
Having heard enough of their insipid bickering, you cleared your throat. When they did not hear, you raised your voice, anger flaring once more, “Have your sa’sem not raised you to know better? He is a person, not a piece of meat. Ogling at the man while he lays in his sickbed. Get out, GET OUT!”
Throat hoarse from shouting, you fell back against the alcove wall, body slipping down its surface until you reached the floor. The girls left the alcove, duly chastened, and you let out a sigh of relief. Neteyam appeared undisturbed, slumbering peacefully in the corner.
Crawling over to his form, you knelt by his side again, gently brushing back his braids, tears welling in your eyes as you took in the sight of his face, complexion pallid from blood loss.
Unable to stop yourself, you whispered the words that had rattled in your chest for moons, desperate for release. “Nga yawne lu oer.”
***~~***
You diligently gathered the cloths soiled from his blood which lay strewn haphazardly across the alcove floor. You gathered each one before placing it in the wash basket to be taken to the river the next morning.
The family had been to visit Neteyam in the hours since his injury. After catching the stricken expressions on their faces when Neteyam slept through the entire visit, you sent them away, promising that you would call for them when he woke. You had sent Olin away too, seeing no reason for the two of you to go hungry when there was an abundance of taliolang meat being prepared for the feast. In truth, you could not stomach anything if you tried.
To pass the time, you had begun chopping up roots to be added to your stores of healing salves. The roots were strangely-shaped, sharp thorns littering their sides, making it a task that required strict concentration which suited you just fine. Anything to distract yourself from the unconscious man in the corner of the alcove.
So engrossed in your work, that you did not catch the beginnings of the man stirring as he woke. Only when his pained moans reached your ears did you become aware of his state of wakefulness.
Abandoning the heap of roots on the chopping board, you sprung forward.
“Neteyam,” you cried, reaching his side. “No, don’t pull yourself up just yet. You’ll tear the stitches at your side!”
Backing down, he relaxed against the alcove floor. “What happened?” He croaked, voice gravelly from disuse.
Biting your lip, you hesitated. “You were shot.”
Confusion coloured his face, “I was shot?”
Willing yourself not to give into the blinding rage that had consumed you before, you continued, “You were shot by one of the other hunters.”
“By mistake,” you added, grimacing internally when it came out as a hiss.
“Can I guess?” He asked. “Was it Iren?”
You gasped, “How did you know?”
Sighing, he continued, “Iren is, well, not the best shot. I have worked with him for many moons now—” He coughed. “—but he is a slow learner.”
“Then why did you allow him to join the hunt?”
He shot you a pointed look. “He needs to learn, paskalin.”
“He almost killed you,” you hissed. “He deserves to have his bow snapped in half!”
Neteyam, paying no mind to your instructions, lifted himself up into a sitting position.
“What are you doing—”
“Leyna,” he sighed. “You’re being cruel. He’s a boy, still. He will make mistakes and he will learn.”
You felt a fresh surge of anger at his words. “I’m being cruel?  He can go make his mistakes on someone else, then! Because, I can’t lose you—” You broke off with a hitching sob. “—there was so much blood. I thought you were gone and I can’t—” You felt strong arms pull you forward.
“Neteyam,” you protested, trying to shift away. “Your wound—”
“It can wait,” he said hotly. “Stay.”
You acquiesced, nuzzling into the crook of his neck, crying with abandon now.
“It’s okay, yawntu,” he murmured, rubbing your back in slow circles. “I’m here, I’m okay.”
Relishing the feel of his embrace, you breathed in his familiar scent. Thank you, Great Mother. You felt your eyelids grow heavy, at ease for the first time in many hours.
Moments before you slipped into a slumber, his voice stopped you. “I love you too.”
“What?” Your eyes blinked open, startled.
Pulling back to look at you, “I love you too, paskalin” he repeated, a smile growing on his face.
Comprehension dawned on you. “You heard me.”
“I did. Did you not mean for me to know? Or was it for someone else?” He teased.
“You—you’re unbelievable,” you laughed softly. “So, is that—I mean, are we—”
“Are we courting?” He waggled his eyebrows, wincing slightly from the pain as he shifted his body.
“Careful,” you chided. “And yes, that,” you added, squirming under the heat of his gaze, which was positively lascivious now.
He did not respond, choosing instead to press his lips against yours. You laughed softly against his lips, sighing as they moved to trail across your skin, moving slowly down the slender curve of your neck.
“Neteyam,” you sighed, flushed from the heat of his kisses.
“You really shouldn’t say my name like that,” he murmured against your skin. “It’ll give me ideas.”
Pulling his head back up, you fused your lips with his again in a searing kiss, feeling a pulsing want between your legs. A pleasurable heat coursed through your body, and you were consumed by the need to press yourself completely against his body, to remove the fabrics that lay between you, to be nake—Neteyam let out a pained gasp.
You pulled back sharply, hands running down his body, checking for further injury. “I’m so sorry,” you said softly. “I shouldn’t have—I got carried away.”
“You don’t ever apologise for that,” he laughed softly. “I’m okay, see?”
You were not convinced, backing away from his body, not trusting yourself to keep from hurting him.
“Don’t do that,” he pouted. “Come back.”
“No,” you said firmly. “Actually, no more kissing until you’ve recovered.”
That earned another round of complaints from him. You laughed, turning your back to him as you resumed restocking the medicinal stores. Neteyam loved you. You smiled quietly to yourself as you cleared the space, and arranged the medicinal packs carefully along the space in the wall.
“You know,” he said, after a brief silence. “I wouldn’t take offence if you felt the need to do some ogling.”
“What?”
“I’m just saying,” he continued, trying and failing to contain a smile. “Since kissing’s off the table and all that—”
“Y-you heard that?” You narrowed your eyes at him. “Just how long were you asleep for, then?”
“Can’t say.”
“Neteyam.”
“I could be your piece of meat,” he added in a lilting voice.
“Au, you’re ridiculous.”

Sleepless nights
╰⇢ 17. Back pains
Warning: none 😋
note: little longer that usual ☝️tomorrow will probably be the last update for the next few days (I have the first part of my final exam on thursday so i’m cramming 🌝)
i’ll be gone forever the rest of the day to study 😔
Tumblr media
"Okay! I guess it's just the three of us." You pushed through your front door, mentally cursing Maki for not being able to join you in your last minute cram sessions. Yes, she had good reason, but she also was the reason you felt a familiar heat creep up your face whenever you looked at your best friend.
Yuta heads straight for your room, flopping down onto your bed, letting out a big sigh into the mattress. “I’m not excited for this upcoming week.” He was obviously referring to your final exams.
“Me neither.” You took the opportunity to jump on top of him, a small groan coming out of the boy. “But I know we’ll do fine.”
“You’re going to actually break my back.” The dark haired boy shifted his head to look at you from the corner of his eye.
You weren’t given time to react when you felt a weight slump on top of you. Toge had made himself comfortable on top of you, and on top of Yuta. “This is actually kind of comfortable.” He mumbled.
“You two are heavy.” Yuta started shifting side to side, hoping to get at least one of you off of him.
“You love us anyways.” You let out a small laugh, latching yourself onto the boy under you, snaking your arms under him and holding him in place with your legs. “Toge hold on! He can’t get rid of us if we’re holding on!”
Following your command, you felt a pair of hands brush past your waist and cover your hands, holding onto Yuta. All you could hear was the soft chuckle coming from above you, and the loud groans from below you.
Soon enough, you felt yourself tilting to one side before eventually tipping over. Yuta had managed to successfully push himself up enough to topple the two of you off of him.
“Oof.” Toge let go and turned onto his back.
“Okay, study time.” Yuta pulled both of you up, leaving the room to carry all your backpacks to the kitchen. “Up you go.”
You let out a dramatic sigh of defeat, pushing yourself up and dragging your feet down the hall.
Tumblr media
“I’m bored. And tired.” You groaned, throwing your head back. The three of you had been studying for god who knows how long, your backs were killing you, your wrists were cramping, and your vision was failing you. “You’re staying over right?” You look up in front of you where the two boys were looking at their screens.
“Yeah.” Yuta mumbled his response.
It was clear that all of you were done with studying, you have been revising non-stop since four in the afternoon. One glance at the clock and you could easily see you had passed the nine hour mark. The fact that all of you were able to remain focused was a mystery to you.
The only break you got was a short trip to the convenience store for more snacks and dinner on the way, but other than that, you were running on straight caffeine and the desire to get a good grade and shove it in your teachers face.
You let out a small yawn, staring at the course material in front of you, all the letters and numbers blurring together to make a big blob. It wasn’t much longer before your eyelids felt heavy and you decided to give them a break. Resting your head in your arms on the table, closing your eyes and letting the darkness consume you.
“Y/n’s asleep.” Toge nudged the boy next to him, nodding in your direction.
“I got it.” Yuta finally shut his laptop, removing his glasses before walking over to your side of the table, gently moving you into an easy position where he can pick you up. “Do you mind getting the bed ready?”
The platinum haired boy nodded, walking down the hallway towards your room where a bunch of things were messily scattered around your bed. He made quick work of everything (he just pushed most of it towards your closet), before fixing up your pillows as Yuta walked in with you on his back.
“We’ll both take the mattress.” He carefully lowered you onto your bed, tucking you in and making sure you were cozy.
“Mhm.” Toge nodded in agreement before taking his spot on the bed.
Yuta quickly followed, turning off the lights and settling down next to Toge, both of them silently looking up at the ceiling. “You’re a streamer right?” The dark haired boy spoke under his breath. “Toginu to be more specific. Correct?”
Toge snapped his head to the left, staring at the boy in disbelief. How did he find out? He’s never mentioned it before. “Are you one of those crazy stalkers?” Was the first thing that came to mind.
“Nah, just a casual fan I guess.” Yuta chuckled. “Y/n is a huge fan, but I’m sure you knew that.”
“Yeah…” He turned to look back up. “How’d you find out?”
The boy looked at him with a smirk. “It doesn’t take a genius to figure it out. But don’t worry, nobody else knows.”
“Good…” Toge sighed. “That actually saves me the trouble of having to tell you, I promise you, I was going to. But I also felt like I owe it to Y/n. But you know, with my feelings, I couldn’t do it.”
“I get it, it’s fine.”
It felt like a weight was lifted off of his shoulders. Toge let out a sigh of relief, thankful he no longer had to worry about anything around his friend.
“Welp, I’m off to bed, night.” Yuta casually turned over, pulling the blanket over his shoulders.
“Night…” The boy responded. It wasn’t long before sleep consumed the both of them, feeling better than they did when they first stepped into your house.

fun facts:
— you’re a HEAVY sleeper. once you’re out, there’s no hope to wake you up for the next few hours
— yuta found out that toge was a streamer by accident (toge left his phone to go to the washroom and got a twitter notification)
— yuta unironically gets back pains from his terrible sitting posture and the heavy ass backpack he carries from one end of the school to the other every day

Lunch
Tumblr media
Summary: Javi's rough start to the work week is turned around when he finds a surprise from his daughters in his lunch
Word Count: 3.1K (oops)
Paring: Dad!Javier Peña x Wife!reader (no use of y/n, reader's nickname is Osita)
Warnings: Literally nothing but sweet, sickening fluff, Javi being so in love with his family, Javi being the ultimate girl dad, a lot of glitter (?)
A/N: Our favorite family is back! I am a firm believer that Girl Dad!Javi keeps every single piece of artwork his daughters give to him and has a wall at his office dedicated to all of their drawings and crafts because he refuses to get rid of any of them 😭 I love them so much, they make me sick, your honor 🫡 unbeata bc that's just who I am, apologies in advance for the mistakes
Series Masterlist. Never Too Late Masterlist
4 hours into Monday and Javier Peña was already counting down the hours until Friday. It seemed like this week was going to have no problem giving Javi a swift kick in the ass back to reality after another blissful weekend with you and the girls, a grumpy frown falling upon his face, wishing he could rewind back just a few hours to when the biggest problems he was trying solved revolved around which book his daughters were picking out for bedtime, rather than strategy meetings on how to solve the better half of the southern drug trade still ranging in Mexico.
Rubbing his hands over his face and pinching the bridge of his nose between his fingers, Javi let out a sigh, grumbling low in his chest before running his hands through the dark curls of his hair, praying that the closed door of his office was enough to give his co-workers at the Laredo Sheriff's Department enough of a clue to let him at least try to enjoy his lunch in silence.
Shuffling and stacking a few stray papers left out on his desk, Javi cleared a space for the brown paper sack he mindlessly pulled out of his work bag, plopping it in front of him without a second look. He shuffled through the pocket he knew he had an extra fork in somewhere, considering he was at the point of eating his lunch with nothing but his hands before venturing out to the common kitchen where the rest of his co-workers were, ready to disrupt the sacred silence and peace that was his lunch time.
“Of course I forgot a fucking fork…” Javi grumbled to himself, abandoning his search in his bag after a few minutes, letting out another disappointed huff, leaning back in his chair and staring up at the speckled tiles of the ceiling. Javi was just about to get up, bracing himself for the perilous journey for a plastic fork he was about to embark on, when the corner of the lunch bag perched on his desk caught his eye.
Was that… glitter?
As his gaze shifted down the rest of his bag, Javi’s impatient and bothered demeanor had quickly shifted, a soft smile growing between his cheeks, picking up the lunch sack that had very clearly been given a makeover by his daughters before disappearing into his work bag this morning.
What was once a plain brown paper bag had somehow been turned into a hodgepodge of arts and crafts- glitter, pink and purple hearts, several stickers from separate collections of puppies, Star Wars, and unicorns, doodles and drawings from each of the girls, and a stray Batman band-aid that Harper must have added, considering the 17 she had covered herself in last night for fun.
Quietly laughing to himself at his girl’s creation, Javi spent a few moments thoroughly examining all sides of the bag, his heart melting to read “Daddy’s Lunch- From Lucy, Elliot, Harper and Mommy” scribbled across the front.
Carefully, Javi opened the top of the crinkly brown paper, revealing a plethora of surprising goodies inside, the first being a tiny stuffed cow and a fruit-by-the-foot that he obviously had no recollection of packing for himself last night. Setting the things down on his desk, Javi shuffled through the next added layer, this one consisting of another fruit-by-the-foot and a half eaten granola bar, which one of the girls clearly had gotten into before his lunch had departed from home.
The last thing hiding lunch was a piece of paper that had been folded several times to fit inside the bag, Javi gently removing it with the rest of his surprise treasures. As he unfolded the now somewhat crumpled paper, the grin on his face began to grow wider and wider, seeing the colorful crayon creations doodled on the page. Before him, sat a paper with drawings of each of the girls done by themselves, perfectly embodying their tiny personalities. Lucy’s was neatly sketched and colored, and then outlined in a darker color to make the inside colors pop, Elliot’s had crazy scribbled hair and was holding a hockey stick in not one, but both hands, and Harpers was done in every color that the Crayola crayon box had to offer.
As if their adorable self-portraits weren’t enough to have him in a puddle, in the middle of their artwork was a drawing of Javi standing between them with the words “We love you Daddy!”  etched in big, pink bubble letters above them.
Javi had been so enamored by the art his daughters had made him, taking in every stroke and scribble on the page, he hadn’t noticed the smaller note that had fallen to his desk, your neat and careful handwriting etched across the paper.
Jav,
3 little munchkins were very insistent on re-making Daddy’s lunch last night, and even more insistent on decorating your very boring brown bag. They told me that they were adding a few surprises to your lunch, so this is me apologizing in advance for any half eaten snacks or stuffed animals that may have ended up in there. I hope you have a great day, we all miss you lots and can’t wait to see you later.
Love you lots,
Osita
Even though it was nothing but a few words scribbled down on a piece of paper and a drawing similar to one he had seen a thousand times before, it never failed to surprise Javi how something so small really did mean everything to him.
Years ago, still working for the DEA, in the midst of chaos and corruption in Colombia, one of his former agents had always insisted on carrying his “lucky” drawing from his son in his back pocket on every mission he was sent on. Back then, the idea of carrying a colored, crumpled piece of paper in his jeans for good luck seemed like a somewhat ridiculous notion, but now, as Javi stared up at the bulletin board next to his desk, overflowing with drawings, paintings, and projects from his 3 daughters, he couldn’t imagine a world where he didn’t hold any gift from his girls so near and dear to his heart that he ever dared to let it go.
Overlapping his newest artwork over the most recent crafts given to him to hang in his office, Javi hung today’s drawing at the front and center of the board, your note nestled next to it, beaming with pride at the love and and joy at how full his heart felt from a few simple pieces of paper.
Admiring just a little longer before reaching over to the phone at the corner of his desk, Javi began to punch the familiar pattern of your home phone number on the receiver, patiently tapping his fingers as the line rang, the other hand grabbing his actual lunch food out of the flamboyantly decorated bag.
“Hello?”
“Hey baby, it’s me.”
“Hi. Is everything okay?” You questioned cautiously, somewhat surprised by his mid-day work call.
“No, everything is-” He paused, smiling back his lunch bag, “everything is great. I just had some time during lunch and wanted to see if the 3 stooges are around so I can say thank you for my lunch.”
“Oh God, I almost forgot that was last night’s surprise project. How bad was it? I was only there to supervise lunch bag decorating because they were adamant they were more than capable than packing extra snacks for you.” You snickered, Javi practically almost able to see the hysterical look plastering your face through the phone, laughing right along with you at the adorable gifts they had left behind for him.
“Well, I got…” Javi stopped, reaching back over in his pile of goodies, “two fruit-by-the-foots, a stuffed purple cow, and a half eaten granola bar that has Elliot written all over it.”
“Is that Daddy? Did he get our lunch?! Did he like it?!” A chorus of little voices squealed in the background.
“Why don’t you ask him yourself.” You snickered, the muffled and muted sounds of the phone being passed off to the girls rustling through the other end of the line as Javi nestled his phone between his ear and shoulder, beginning to open up his food as he waited for a response from his daughters.
“Hi Daddy!” The 3 shouted through the phone in unison.
“Hola, pollitas! (Hi, little chickens) Thank you so much for my lunch today!”
“Did you like the bag, Daddy? It was my idea to make it look pretty because the brown is so boring.” Lucy boasted, in her lovingly know-it-all tone, making sure her dad knew she was without a doubt, the ringleader of the lunchtime antics.
“I added the extra snacks!” Elliot chimed in, making sure her voice was well pronounced through the phone ensuring that Javi could her her contributions.
“I helped-ed too!” Harper interrupted, trying to butt in over her sisters.
“Well, Mommy helped a little bit too, but it was mostly us!”
“Was it a surprise, Daddy?”
“Best surprise I’ve had in a very long time. I already put your drawing up on my board so everyone can see your beautiful artwork. I think everyone at work is gonna start thinking I have professional artists that live in my house.” Javi’s cheeks were already sore from the goofy grin that was only getting wider every second he listened to his daughter’s sweet little voices on the phone, the girls erupting in a fit of giggles at his compliment. “Los amos mucho, morritas (I love you so much, kiddos).”
“Hey Boss, you gotta second, I-” Agent Carter half knocked, opening Javi’s office door, stopping in his tracks as he met Javi’s cheerful grin turned death glare upon his arrival, slowly retracting his steps while Javi let out a scornful sigh, holding his hand out to get Carter to at least let him wrap up before dealing with whatever bullshit was coming his way.
“Hey pollitas? Daddy has to get back to work, but I’ll see you in a little bit when I get home, okay? I love you so much. Can you pass the phone back to Mom?”
“Okay, bye Daddy! Mommy! Mommy, Daddy wants to say goodbye!”
“The gremlins said you wanted to say goodbye?” You laughed over the clatter of the phone being handed haphazardly back to you.
“Yeah baby, I gotta go back to work, but I just wanted to say I love you and thanks for helping them with lunch, it was really fucking cute. I’ll see you later, okay?”
“The cutest 3 stinkers that I’ve ever met. I love you too, Jav. Bye, babe.”
“Love you, bye.”
As the dial tone went silent, Javi hung up the phone, taking in a deep exhale, still holding his hand out at his co-worker to preemptively prevent whatever what stupid remark was about to come out of his mouth.
“I wasn’t gonna say anything!” Carter winced, holding up his hands in defense at Javi’s death glare, trying his best to hide the sly smirk spreading between his lips. “…. I just never really struck you for a rainbow glitter type of guy.”
“Fuck off, Carter. Give me 10 more minutes to try and eat my lunch in fucking peace.” Javi groaned, trying to shoo him back out the door he had barged in from.
“Okay, okay, message received! I will say…I do think the glitter really does capture your bright and sparkly personality though, the unicorn stickers are really a nice-”
“Carter…”
“Sorry, sorry, I’m leaving! “
As the door clicked shut, Javi let his annoyance slip back to content, letting the colorful sparkle of his lunch back serve as his beacon of hope for the rest of the work day, thankful for the extra piece of home he got to keep with him until he got to see his girls again.
Tumblr media
“Hey, I’m home!” Javi’s familiar voice rang through the hallway, barely 3 steps through the front door before the girls were rushing through the house, barrelling towards their dad to attack him with the biggest bear hugs their little bodies could muster.
“Daddy!” They screeched, wrapping around every free inch of Javi’s body that they could reach, giggling as he crouched down to greet them, peppering them with ticklish kisses all over their faces.
“Hola, Pollitas! Oh, I missed you guys! Did you guys have a good day today?” Javi grinned, now letting the bags he was holding in his hands drop to the floor, collecting his daughters in his grasp, wrapping them up in the tightest hug he could manage through their excited squirms and wiggles.
“Yeah, we went to the park with Mommy and then we came home and played soccer and then ran through the sprinkler!” Lucy beamed, her sisters nodding in happy agreement, excited to tell their dad about today’s shenanigans while he was at work.
“I scored two goals on Mommy!” Elliot added, her face lighting up with pride at her accomplishment.
“No way! Nice stuff, Ellie Bellie!” Javi grinned, holding his hand out for a ferocious high-five from Elliot, pretending to shake his hand in pain at her strength, making the girls snicker at their dad’s overdramatics. “Hey, can you tell me where Momma is, I gotta go say hi to her too and then you can tell me all about the rest of your day, okay?”
“She’s in the kitchen making dinner!” Lucy replied, giggling as Javi pressed a long kiss into the top of her head, nestled between her messy hair.
“Mommy’s makin’ ‘pisgetti!” Harper cooed, Lucy and Elliot trying their best to keep from laughing at their youngest sister’s inability to pronounce spaghetti.
“Thanks, lindas (cuties). Why don’t you guys go clean up your stuff and then we can help Mom with the rest of dinner?”
“Okay!” The three agreed, dashing back through the house and disappearing down the hallways, Javi laughing to himself as he kicked off his shoes and picked up his bags, heading into the kitchen to find you at the stove, happily humming and swaying your hips to the radio playing in the background as you cooked, so wrapped up in what you were doing that you hadn’t realized your husband’s presence.
Quietly setting down his bags on the counter, Javi rested his hip against the stone ledge, arms crossed over his chest as he watched you work, wondering to himself if he would ever get over how even the simplest things like watching you make dinner made him fall more and more in love with you, the familiar warmth of home and you creeping through his cheeks in a soft smile.
“Hi, Momma.” He smirked, making you squeal in surprise as he snuck behind you, wrapping his arms around your waist and pressing a soft kiss into your shoulder, rocking you back and forth in his grasp. “I missed you guys today.”
“Hi, handsome. We missed you, too. The girls haven’t stopped asking when you were going to be home since you called at lunch time. They were so excited you liked your lunch. Sorry if it was a little obnoxious. I tried to tell ‘em to go easy on the glitter, so hopefully none ended up in your food.” You chuckled, shaking your head at the image of the finished lunch bag that had made its way to work with Javi this morning. You turned around to face Javi, his hands still resting on your hips as you draped your arms over his shoulders, pressing up on your tiptoes to let your lips meet his, his mouth lingering just a little longer than usual as you felt his smile growing amidst his kiss. “What was that for?” You blushed, butterflies swirling in your stomach as his lips gently pulled away from yours, his thumbs rubbing soft circles on your skin in the space where your t-shirt and shorts parted.
“I love you so much. You and the girls, I just- I’m just so thankful for all of you.” Javi grinned, the soft brown of his eyes sparkling in the kitchen light, looking you up and down as if in awe of the fact that you were the woman he got to hold in his grasp at the end of each day for the rest of his life.
“I love you too, you goof.”
Before your lips could meet again, the happy giggles of your girls flooded through the kitchen, their little pitters and patters of their feet tumbling the hallway to greet the both of you again. Peeking over Javi’s shoulder, you cocked your head in confusion at the plastic bag your girls were now rummaging through on the counter, wondering what Javi had been shopping for on his way home.
“What’s in the bag, Jav?”
“Well…” He paused, making his way over to the kitchen counter with the girls, picking up the bag and tipping it over, shaking its contents out in front of them, “I figured, since the munchkins did such a good job with today’s lunch bag-”
“STICKERS!”
“GLITTER PENS?!”
“PUFFY PAINT!”
The girls shrieked, picking up the various brightly colored craft items Javi had brought home with him, along with a pack of brown paper bags, making the reason for his pit stop abundantly clear, and making you smile even wider than you already were.
“...I figured, I still have 4 days of lunches left, and you guys did such a good job with my lunch today, that you could decorate the rest of my lunch bags for the week.”
“Really?!” The girls squealed, their faces lighting up in excitement.
“Really, really.” Javi beamed, reaching his arms around the girls to pick them up, the 3 laughing and squirming in pure joy, your heart bursting at the seams watching just how much Javi loved his little girls and the silliest, smallest things he would do just to make them smile.
“Mommy, can we start right now!? Please, please, pleaseeeeee?” Lucy begged, Elliot and Harper joining in with their silent plea of sweet puppy eyes.
“Let’s help Mommy with dinner and then we can-”
“It’s okay, I think spaghetti can wait a little longer.”

Fuck It, It’s Fine.
Tumblr media
Summary: You find yourself falling off the wagon again, but you’re not sure if you want to get back on.
Warnings: hurt/comfort (sorta), gary mention, cheating (kind of), allusion to smut
Word Count: 2.4k
A/N: I proofread this once so if there are typos pls ignore. anyway, this fic is the second part of my other fic, “Bad Idea, Right?”. so i would recommend reading that first! thanks for all of the love on the first one, enjoy!
Another month has passed since the last time you and Melissa had met up. She would text and call, acting as though the two of you were friends just asking about each other’s day, and then she would give you some reason to come over. “You gotta come over and watch this new show” this, “I got some leftovers” that, she would tempt you with everything she could think of to get you to come over.
While you did always answer, you had not given in. You would think of an excuse while you talked and when she finally asked you to come over, you’d hit her with it. You could’ve easily put your foot down and told her to stop asking you to come over, but you were sure it would upset her. You still wanted her companionship, but it felt wrong to have any more, considering her blooming relationship with Gary.
Shutting Melissa down wasn’t easy, though. You would put your phone across the room and distract yourself until the urge to call her back dwindled away. This method worked but was impractical as it sometimes took you a couple hours to regroup.
Turning Melissa down in person was even worse. Instead of just having your nice memories of Melissa to fuel the “call her back” fire, you had Melissa in front of you, in all of her stupidly gorgeous glory. She would smooth talk you a bit, like she did when you first began dating, making you blush and let out girlish giggles you didn’t recognize as yours. Then, once she had you all buttered up, she would ask you to come over. You would decline, but then you would see her throughout the day, thoroughly destroying any distraction you had. You almost said yes once, but Melissa had ended up going home early that day.
Today, you believed you were being tested. It was picture day and everyone tended to try and look their best. When you had walked into the gym during your planning period, you stopped in your tracks. Melissa was standing in line on the steps that led up to the stage, her left foot resting on the step higher and her back leaned against the wall. She was wearing a pink top with a black blazer on top along with her signature leather pants and her black boots. Her makeup was done nicely and her hair was perfectly curled.
You thought about turning back and going to your classroom, but then you remembered you don’t have another free period. Plus, if you didn’t get your picture taken today they would use last year’s photo in the yearbook, and that was a picture you were hoping to forget. You sighed and turned back around, walking over to the bottom of the stairs next to Melissa.
She looked up from her phone, lifting her glasses to rest on top of her head and smiling when she realized it was you. “Well, hello, gorgeous.”
You rolled your eyes, but smiled nonetheless. Even after breaking up, she still made you feel like a love struck 17-year-old. The glasses on top of her head made her look even better, the way they pushed her hair away from her face made your heart swoon. You nearly asked her to take you back right then and there, but then you pinched yourself and stared at the wall.
“Hey, Melissa. You’re not looking too bad yourself.” You said, only sparing her a quick glance before going back to the wall. She raised her eyebrow at your odd behavior.
“It’s true, but I don’t think you’ve looked at me enough to really appreciate it.” She teased, leaning in to lightly elbow your arm.
“Don’t be silly, Melissa,” you scrambled to say, trying to cover your ass, “I’m looking at you for a normal amount of time.”
To prove your point, you turn your head to look Melissa in the eyes. Bad move. She was even prettier up close, if that were even possible. She was still leaning over, the close proximity made your mouth go dry and your cheeks begin heating up.
“What’s going on in that pretty head of yours?” She asked quietly.
Before you could think better of it, you blurted out, “I want you so bad, but you’re with Gary and I don’t want to be a home wrecker anymore and—“
“Woah, woah there, hon. Me and Gary were never that serious, there was no home to wreck.” She interrupted you. You stared at her for a minute, replaying her words in your head.
“Wait. ‘Was’? ‘Were’?” You repeated, not believing you heard that right.
“Yeah, me and Gary ain’t workin’ out.” She confirmed. You stared at her for another moment until the photographer was asking for the next person in line, which was her.
She put a hand on your shoulder, “Come find me after the kids leave, we’ll talk.”
You continued to stare as she walked over to the photographer and got her photo taken. She winked at you as she left the stage, leaving your cheeks warm. You then head up for your turn, grinning widely for your picture.
The rest of the day seemed to drag on, a mix of excitement and the fear of the unknown causing you to be unable to focus. It was too early in the year to start watching movies, so you had your students get a book from the library and come back to silently read. When the final bell rang, you almost jumped from your chair. You watched as your kids filtered out of the classroom and said goodbye to all of them, waiting a couple minutes before you gathered your things and walked downstairs to Melissa’s room.
The classroom was void of any kids when you got there, only Melissa at her desk. You walked in and Melissa looked up from her phone to smile at you. You pulled up a chair and sat across from her.
No matter what she says, you have to think rationally. You can’t immediately jump into bed with her, she’s your ex for a reason, you repeated in your head.
“You wanted to talk?” You asked, trying to contain your excitement for now.
“Yeah. About us.” She admitted. Your heart was pounding in your chest.
“What about us?”
She sighed, like she was frustrated that you couldn’t read her mind. Melissa hated talking about her feelings and would often not talk about them at all, you had forgotten how irritating it was. You were about to tell her you weren’t here to play guessing games with her, but then she spoke.
“I was an idiot for not realizin’ what I had when I was with you. I wanna try again.” You nearly pinched yourself. You had to be dreaming. Melissa? Being honest with you about her emotions? Hell must’ve frozen over.
There was a silence. You weren’t sure what to say. Melissa had been emotionally unavailable for the majority of your relationship, leaving you fighting tooth and nail to figure out what was going on in her head constantly. This was exhausting for you, and it was the primary reason you had broken up. However, it looked like she had made some progress since she was the one to ask you to talk. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to try again.
“Why now? I thought things were going well with Gary.” You asked.
She shrugged, “Gary was easier, I guess. He didn’t ask how I’m doing, he didn’t notice when I was upset.”
“So, you want me to be your therapist again?” You deadpanned. She huffed, this was obviously hard for her.
“You know that’s not what I meant. I just… You cared for me. Even on my worst days, you were patient with me. I don’t think anyone could make me feel the way you do. I wanna make you feel the way I felt.” Your eyebrows raised in surprise at what she was saying, it was everything you wished to hear from her.
“You mean that?”
She smiled and nodded, “I do, hon. I…I love you.”
Okay, you had to be dreaming. Melissa just poured her heart out to you and on top of it, she said she loved you.
You didn’t hesitate to say it back. “I love you too, Mel.”
“So, you wanna give me a second chance?” She asked, her eyes lighting up with hope. You nodded eagerly, not wanting to pass this up.
“Okay. Well then, how about dinner at my place?”
“Yes, of course.” You accepted her invitation without thinking about it.
She smiled before standing up and coming around the desk to stand beside you. She leaned down and pressed a kiss to the top of your head. “Good. You can come over around seven if you wanna help out.”
Now she’s gonna let you help make dinner? You must’ve fallen and hit your head this morning.
The two of you walked to the parking lot together, splitting up to go to your own cars. When you got home, you were barely able to sit still. You had a couple of hours before you had to be at Melissa’s house, so you spent the majority of that time getting ready.
You were on Facetime with Mira, getting her to help you pick out an outfit. You had explained the situation to her and while she supported you, she had her doubts.
“I just want you to be careful, babe.” She said.
You rolled your eyes as you stepped into your camera's view in a potential outfit. “She’s different now, I swear. She talked to me about how she felt, and I didn’t have to beg her to do it!”
Mira scoffed, “Wow, bare minimum. Not that top, it’s too formal for dinner at her place.”
You stepped out of frame again, pulling off the top and hanging it back up. You pulled a black sweater from your closet and put it on.
“The point is, she’s making progress. I can help her become better. How’s this?”
She sighs, “It’s good. I hope you have a good time, don’t forget brunch in the morning, and please, for the love of god, don’t sleep with her tonight.”
“I’m not going to sleep with her!”
You did end up sleeping with her. Dinner was fantastic and in the process of making it, Melissa only griped at you once. After dinner, the two of you talked for a while and before you knew it, Melissa had you pinned against her bed. You fell asleep that night, content and hopeful for the future.
The next morning you woke up abruptly, the sun leaking in through Melissa’s bedroom curtains. You sat up and looked for your phone, needing to see what time it was. When you couldn’t, you leaned over Melissa’s sleeping body to check the time on her phone. You turned it on and relaxed upon seeing that it was only 9:30. A message popped up as you held her phone and you looked at it instinctively. It was a message from Gary.
Good morning, beautiful. We still on for coffee later?
Your stomach turned as you read the text over and over again. You dropped her phone back on the nightstand and got out of her bed, throwing your half of the comforter on top of her. Melissa stirred, watching as you went around the room gathering your clothes.
“Hey, what’s the rush?” She asked, her voice hoarse from a mixture of sleep and the previous night’s activities.
“You told me you and Gary weren’t together. Why did you lie?” You didn’t halt your movements, throwing everything but your pants on the end of the bed.
Melissa sat up, gaze still on you. “What are you talking about, hon?”
You scoffed, “Don’t lie to me, Melissa. Gary just texted you. He wanted to know if you were still on for coffee.”
Her eyes widened and she picked up her phone, reading the text for herself. You rolled your eyes and began angrily pulling your pants on.
“Hon, I was meeting up with him to tell him we’re over.” She said, crawling to the foot of the bed to kneel in front of you.
“Bullshit.” You muttered, buttoning your pants.
Melissa’s hand reached up to cup your face and you jerked back, glaring at her. She dropped her hand, looking a bit hurt.
“Just look. Please?” She pleaded with you, holding up her phone for you to see. You huffed, looking at the phone screen. It was Melissa and Gary’s text messages, she told him she had something important to talk about and he seemed to be none the wiser, asking to go to a new coffee shop he heard about. She wasn’t lying. You felt guilty, all of the sudden. You had lashed out a bit and woke Melissa up for no reason.
“Sorry about that. I thought—“
“Don’t worry about it. I haven’t been the most upfront with you in the past, so I get it.” She interrupted, shrugging. She reached up again and this time you let her, leaning into her touch as she cupped your cheek.
“So that’s all it is? You’re breaking it off with him today?” You asked, she nodded.
“Yes. That’s it.”
You sighed, the anger and frustration that had rapidly built up slipping away by the second. She noticed the way your entire body relaxed from its previously tense state and gave you a warm smile.
“Why don't you let me apologize for scarin' ya?” She offered, a mischievous glint in her eyes as her hand left your cheek to hold your waist. “I’ll make you breakfast after.”
You couldn’t help but snicker at her, “I have to meet up with Mira for brunch at noon.”
“It’s only half past nine, hon.” Melissa raised up on her knees to begin kissing your neck, occasionally nipping at the sensitive skin.
“You’ll make me late.” You protested weakly as she began trying to pull you into bed.
“I’ll be quick.” She promised. You resolve weakened as Melissa sucked lightly on your pulse point and when she pulled away, you huffed. She didn't respond, only looked at you with that shit-eating grin.
"Super quick?" You echoed. This time when she tried to pull you into bed, you let her. She rolled over on top of you, still grinning.
"I'll be so quick, you'll be begging for more."
The biggest lie she ever said.

in love with an insomniac (Mapi leon X reader)
Tumblr media
(gif not mine)
growing up sleep was always a struggle for you especially during your teenage years, both your parents and you pushed it aside thinking it was just hormones, however, it got worse and worse by the time you were 17 to the point where it affected not just your school work but also your football and that's when you got concerned.
after several doctor's appointments and the age of 17, you were diagnosed with insomnia and were given some medication to help. you were now 26 in the prime of your footballing career not just thriving at your club Barcelona but also in your national team for England, even life was good in a happy relationship of 4 years with Mapi everything was just good.
your insomnia never really bothered you as much but there were still moments when it popped up out of nowhere and caused trouble. and it started to creep up on you.
mapi was fully aware of your struggle with sleep, as everyone remembers where you passed out from exhaustion during training after not sleeping for two days straight when having intense training sessions. she helped you find ways to tire yourself out, little things like reading, yoga, cleaning anything harmless that you could do.
it was the week before the champions league final and tensions were high and so was your anxiety, you spent your free time going over old matches from the opposing team and finding their weaknesses and strengths and mainly what made them click as a team, and this triggered it.
three nights it had been where you struggled to sleep and every night it got harder you were trying everything and nothing really worked and it had come to the point where you were just laying in bed next to a fast asleep mapi in your arms staring up at the ceiling wishing, hoping that sleep would come but it never did. mapi slowly caught on after finding you organising and cleaning every inch of the kitchen at 5 in the morning.
"love," Mapi said scaring you.
"hey babe what you doing up," you asked knowing Mapi loved her sleep almost as much as you.
"why aren't you alseep and why are you organising the kitchen," she asked.
"i couldn't sleep so I thought i might as well it's been on my to-do list for a while" you said going back to cleaning.
"come on let's go to bed" Mapi said grabbing your hand and pulling you back to bed hoping for a couple of hours of sleep.
"i think you need to go to the doctor or talk to someone can see it's getting bad again and it's not healthy" Mapi said stroking the side of your face.
"i talked to my doctor yesterday they said they were going to up my dose a little bit, I'm going to pick it up tomorrow well technically this morning" you said snuggling into her trying to be tired out.
"Okay that's good" she said kissing my head.
you sat in silence for a little bit knowing that neither of us where going to fall back to sleep you said "Shall we go walk on the beach"
mapi smiled and nodded that the beach and ocean were one of hers and your favourite things to do together. you got in some comfy clothes and walked hand in hand down the beach before having to head home to get ready for training.
*3 days later*
it had been three days since you were taking your new prescription your doctor gave you and it seem to have helped, but the only downfall was that your body was exhausted and wanting to catch up with the missing sleep which wasn't ideal with your busy schedule but your body didn't like that.
and this is shown when you fell alseep on Mapi's lap during a ten-minute training break.
"I have never seen her sleep this much or hard before," Alexia said who was one of your best friends.
"neither to be honest her body needs the rest" Mapi said as Johaton walked over and noticed the two girls.
"at least we know that she is sleeping come on you can leave her to sleep and she's in the shade" he said understanding the difficulty of what you had been going through.
mapi tried to move you so she could go back to training but you were having non of it having a tight grip on her. She stayed in her original position, and instead of you watching her sleep peacefully it was Mapi watching you get the sleep you needed even though it was on a football pitch in the middle of training.

When Yn knocked at Lewis’ door he wasn’t expecting to see her with a running nose and teary eyes. In fact, he wasn’t expecting to see her. She was supposed to be at her apartment getting ahead with some work because she had dinner plans with Mick, that’s what the German had told Lewis earlier that day.
“Hey, bitsy, what happened?” the Brit asked, confusion and worry lacing his tone.
Yn could only crash into her brother’s frame, being engulfed in a tight hug and letting out some of the pain and anxiety she had been holding back. He knew how hard it was for her to let herself be vulnerable, which meant she reached her breaking point.
“I broke up with Mick,” she sobbed into his shirt, and Lewis took a step back to look into her eyes, holding her face between his hands.
“What did he do?”
And though Mick had come to be a close friend of his with the shared routine in the Mercedes team, Lewis wouldn’t think twice before distancing himself if he had done something to hurt his little sister. Mick knew it. Everyone knew it. That’s the reason he was so taken back the second he noticed the lingering touches and secret stares. It wouldn’t be hard taking sides, but it would certainly hurt doing so.
Yn shook her head, more tears doting her black skin, “Nothing, he did nothing wrong-” a hiccup passed between her lips. “Someone posted about me and Mason, and suddenly the whole internet is talking about the two, and me, and our personal lives and- Lew, they have pictures! There are pictures of me and Mason around the internet.”
Lewis closed the door behind her and guided his sister to his couch. Roscoe came running to her too and it wasn’t long before the three were cuddled in silence, the only sounds being Yn’s sniffs and sighs.
He knew not to pressure her too much, knowing that she needed some time to breathe before finally speaking about everything, or most things, that were going through her head. Lewis was worried about Mick too, but he would check on his friend later, for now, his sister was his priority and she needed him, all his love and attention.
It was an hour or so before the sniffs stopped and Lewis noticed that Yn had fallen asleep, she was probably tired from all the crying and stress she had been dealing with lately, and the outing of her past relationship with soccer player Mason Mount was the icing on the cake. Lewis peeled his body off of hers with caution not to disturb her peace and reached for his phone seeing tons of messages from a worried Mick asking if he knew something about Yn’s whereabouts. He quickly answered reassuring the German that she was safe and with him, and added for him to be patient with her. Yn loved Mick, it was a fact.
Lewis ordered from their favorite place and got some of her favorite clothes his for her to wear after a long and much-needed relaxing shower. He gave Roscoe his food, and while the dog ate everything eagerly, he opened Twitter and Instagram seeing how the internet was indeed going crazy about Yn, Mick, and Mason. It was crazy how people felt entitled to someone else’s personal life.
Assuming that Yn probably didn’t have the time and the energy to do something, Lew stepped onto his terrace, closing the door behind him and calling the family’s lawyer. He had no idea how those pictures ended up on the internet, or how his sister’s past relationship got exposed, but he was gonna make sure whoever did it would be held accountable for it. He wanted to call Mason too, to ask if he had any idea about anything, how he would handle it from his side, but that was too personal, that was something only Yn should do.
After the food arrived, and Yn showered, the siblings sat on the living room’s floor to eat, a ritual they used to share whenever they could since their early teen years. Yn nibbled on her food, not eating the way she would when her favorite was on the table, she felt a lump in her throat, it was like she was trying to swallow back her own heart and by doing so she couldn’t try and put anything else there. Lewis noticed and used the moment to try and make her open up a bit, and share her burden with him. And that she did. She poured her heart out, cried again, sobbed again, and confessed to him how stressed she was ever since everyone discovered she was his sister, to which she was quick to apologize too because that wasn’t a problem, but rather how people started treating her was the real issue. Yn loved being a Hamilton, loved sharing the same blood as Lewis, loved having him around as her best friend, loved to share her happy and sad days with him, but she hated how everyone seemed to compare them now, how Yn wasn’t Yn anymore but “Lewis Hamilton’s younger sister” or even “Mick Schumacher’s supposed girlfriend” and not in a contextual way, but rather derogatory, like trying to diminish her and who she was, to resume her to two men. And fair enough, she loved them, she loved them both so much, but she was her own person, she loved herself before loving them. And maybe, Yn thought, she just needed to get used to having her brother mentioned every time, just like her relationship with Mick, but adding Mason to it? Adding Mason to it was cruel.
She confided in her brother all the things that had been plaguing her mind, and Lewis listened attentively, catching a tear from her here and there with his thumb, and nodding attentively. He was a good listener. He was the best brother, Yn told him.
That night they watched TV until falling asleep on the couch with Roscoe by their feet. Something they used to do when they were kids and the days were so packed that they didn’t have much time together, Yn would sneak into his room, they would make a tent with Lewis’ comforter, and turn on the TV on the low volume so that their parents wouldn’t wake up, and they would watch Disney movies until both passed out. Life used to be easier at the time.
When Lewis had to start the hectic schedule for Silverstone weekend Yn went to her parents. She spent a week sleeping in her old bedroom, having every possible meal with her parents, and enjoying the hugs, kisses, and pampering from them. They couldn’t mend their heart back together, but while there it felt like they could glue it for some minutes. It would fall to pieces in the ground when she lay awake in bed at night, but when the sun shined through the windows and her dad woke her up so they could cook pancakes together while The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill played as background sound some of the pieces of her heart would flutter closer.
The second week was about to start when she got a call from Corinna. She cried when she heard the woman’s voice. The accent is so like Mick’s. The sweet and warm tone. Corinan asked Yn if she wanted to spend some time in Switzerland with her. It was a calm place, she wouldn’t be bothered by too many paparazzi, she could go off from social media, they would have tons of activities to do if she felt like it, and Gina would even fly there for the weekend. So Yn packed her bags, and by Monday afternoon she was in Switzerland.
Yn cried again when Corinna hugged her, told her how sorry she was for hurting Mick, and tried to explain everything, but the older woman just shook her head and hugged Yn together, assuring her that she wouldn’t judge, that she did not blame Yn. Life was complicated, but Corinna seemed to be sure that Yn and Mick would find a way out of the storm they were facing, and she made sure to tell Yn that. Without pressure, of course. In fact, they agreed on not talking a lot about Mick or her relationship, but it turned out that was a hard subject to avoid because Corinna made her feel safe and comfortable enough to want to talk, and everything at that house screamed his name. So much so, that Yn wandered around on her first night and ended up in his childhood bedroom, watching some of his trophies, posters, books, and toys. Yn fell asleep curled on his bed, hugging his pillow.
The coming days were good. Corinna distracted her the same way her parents would. Yn taught the German some of her vegan recipes, and Corinna seemed to like them. They would cook breakfast together, share tea by the garden, feed the horses, and solve crosswords while eating dinner.
After two weeks in Switzerland Yn went back to her apartment in London. She wasn’t exactly ready for the remainder of Mick at her home, yet she needed to work through whatever was plaguing her mind, she needed to recenter so that she could face him again. She knew the way they broke up wasn’t fair to him, knew that they would have to talk again eventually, either for closure or to get back together.
At the door, his slides were the first thing to greet her, then his smell that plagued the whole apartment. By her couch, there was one of Angie’s toys, in her room his shirt she used to sleep with, some of his clothes inside her closet, his toothbrush beside hers, his shampoo, little things that got there gradually. Some of them she still remembers the exact moment. The feeling of tranquility coming home with him and knowing his things were there too.
Yn kept everything intact: all his things inside her house. All the feelings inside her chest.
She went back to her routine, working, seeing her friends, trying to enjoy a bit of the privacy that was still left after she deactivated most of her socials. Except, now she wasn’t joining and cheering for her brother in person during the weekends, but rather watching everything from her couch. Sometimes, those weekends would be shared with Lewis’ friends and her friends as well, the ones that couldn’t make it to the GPs too.
When September Yn was ready for the launch of her winter collection. She was also ready to be in the same room as Mick, or so she thought, she had to be especially because her team had sent invitations for the whole Schumacher family and she had a feeling he wouldn’t miss it.
Sure enough there he was, and though they couldn’t exchange more than a longing stare and a friendly wave, Yn felt everything she kept tamed inside burst out in the open. She busied herself with the parade and all the little details that needed her attention, and because she was the main name tonight she wasn’t able to speak to everyone. Though, what would she say to the Schumachers? “Thank you for coming! And, Mick, I miss you, maybe I owe you an apology”, well maybe that’s exactly what she should have said, but the rush didn’t let her. Maybe that’s why Yn was surprised when everything was over and someone from the staff came with a bouquet of tulips.
It wasn’t anything new, she usually gets a ton of flowers during parades, and events in general, from fans to the crew she’s working with, but she never got tulips, and her heart skipped a beat, hands slightly trembling when she reached for it, and opened the envelope between the beautiful flowers.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t give you a proper congratulations and hug. I’m really proud of you – today, and always. I’ll be here when you’re ready. - Your Mickey”
Yn knew exactly what ready meant.
And she also knew how meaningful it was of him to sign as her Mick. Not Mick Schumacher, or simply Mick, or anything, but “your Mick”. The version of him only she knew. A pair of tears rolled down her cheeks just when Lewis reached the door of her dressing room.
Yn looked at her brother silently, and he gave her one of his small smiles.
“You should text him,” the Brit suggests.
“How do you know I’m thinking about him?”
Lewis shrugs, draping his body on the blue couch, “You two went to see a field of tulips in Switzerland, right?” She nodded, and before she could joke about his memory Lewis added, “But that’s not how I know, he actually told me he would do it. Even asked me if I thought it was ok for him to show up.”
“Oh-” she utters. “I’m- I- I exposed him, put him in the spot. Mick is a super private guy, Lew, and I kind of blew everything up,” she sighs, knowing damn well she’s repeating the vent session they had back the other month.
“He told you he doesn’t care, didn’t he?” Lewis asks and Yn nods, biting her lips. “I think that’s proof enough that he’s ready to compromise if it means having you. That’s huge, Yn. He’s ready to give up part of his private life to stay with you, and not as in sacrificing himself and all this red flag thing, but as in: he thinks you’re more important. He loves you, can’t you see?”
“I’m still scared,” she confesses.
“Fuck being afraid, bitsy, do it anyways. If you let fear stop you, you’ll never fully live,” it’s his older brother's advice. “Besides,” Lewis adds, “You think he isn’t? He’s probably scared shit too, and that’s yet another reason why you should talk, dot it together because if you have one another the burden gets lighter – if there’s even one.”
She rolls her eyes, they’re full of tears ready to fall, and they do the second she smiles dropping her shoulders. Yn nods to Lewis, and when everything is packed and they’re walking on the parking lot to their respective cars parked side by side, her phone pings.
Lewis winks her way with a smile when she turns the screen to him. It’s Mick.
“Good luck, bitsy. I’ll be at home if you need me, and I’ll back you up on whatever you choose to do,” he takes off some of the weight from her shoulders.
Yn hugs him tight and whispers how much she loves him and how lucky she is to be a Hamilton. She listened to her heart and only her heart, trying to ignore whatever her mind wanted to rationalize, and whatever others would think, while she typed away on her phone.
After indirectly inviting him to dinner, she drives all the way to her apartment with a grin on her face and feeling all warm and fuzzy after feeling cold and sad for so long.
The second her doorbell rang, Yn stopped pacing around her living room and ran to the entrance, already feeling her hands shaking slightly.
“Hey,” Mick breathed with a small smile on his face when Yn showed up behind the wooden door. He was holding another bouquet, this time red carnations. Yn’s greetings got stuck in her throat. Mick looked just so good wearing blue jeans paired with a dark green hoodie. His eyes did not leave her, quite the contrary, he drank her in, blue orbs roaming around each small detail. For him, Yn looked just perfect.
“I-” Mick started to fill the silence after a minute, but before he could keep going Yn crashed into him, taking a deep breath and lacing her hands around his neck. He held her closer by the waist and inhaled her perfume, feeling his heart speed so fast it felt like he was racing around his favorite circuit.
“I’m so sorry. I’m sorry I hurt you. Sorry, I made you wait. Sorry-,” Yn whispered with a voice so small he could only hear because her face was between his neck and shoulder. He detached their bodies just enough to hold her by the jaw, eyes scanning the tears slowly descending her cheeks.
Mick shook his head, “I should have come after you before. I’m sorry it took me so long.”
Yn sobbed, letting her forehead hit his solid chest, and trying to take deep breaths to control her own heart, “No, babe, you gave me my time, you gave me space, and I love you for that.”
It was his turn to let some tears fall. Mick was a smart guy, he knew how to be rational, but it did not mean that he knew how to control each emotion of his. Quite the opposite, from time to time he let his feelings lead the way. He can feel insecure and overthink just like any human being. The thing is, that while they were away, he took his time to work on it. Work on himself. Look in the mirror and understand he was doing the right thing by kicking the ball to her court. There was nothing he could do but wait. And waiting he did.
Now, looking into her eyes, he wonders why he waited so long, how he spent every day for over two months without her. But the second those three little words passed between her plump lips he knew it hadn’t been for nothing. Knew that life was gifting his patient.
“Can you find it in you to forgive me?” she asked, still glued to his body.
He chuckled, “Schatzi, there’s nothing to forgive. And even if there was, you know I would. I would do anything for you because I love you. I love you in every language, the ones I know and the ones I don’t. I love you like my best friend, my favorite person, my lover. I love you like I never did before.”
It was the first time she heard him say those three little words, and they hit her like a truck, rearranging every organ in her body, and making her heart grow ten times bigger. Making her flutter, and come down at the same time. But for the first time, she wasn’t worried about falling, he would be there to catch her. Or they would fall together. Always together. Either way, she chose him. She chose to give love a chance. To give herself a chance at happiness. And when his lips found hers after so long it felt like everything came together. It was sweet, and salty with their tears. It was soft, and hungry, demanding attention and trying to make up for the lost time. It was like a king coming back from war for his queen. Stating that he was more alive than ever. That he wouldn’t leave. That his promise to come back was true. Burning cheeks, sweaty palms, warm chest, tingly stomach, it was like meeting each other for the first time all over again.
When Yn’s hands sneaked under Mick’s hoodie, brushing over his bare skin, he smiled into the kiss, taking the seconds to breathe in some air.
“We still have to talk. I still have so much explaining to do,” Yn started.
“And you have to tell me about your time in Switzerland without me, mama said you rode the horses with G and even planted a new three.”
She grinned. A bright expression doting her whole face.
“I’ll do it over dinner. Come, the food is getting cold,” Yn laced their fingers bringing him inside, and Mick enjoyed the feeling of truly crossing the line of her heart. He knew that this time entering her house meant so much more. It meant a green card for entering her heart and staying. And he would do it.
They would make a home out of each other. What they were not yet aware of was that the home was already there. All they had to do was get inside.
And they had just done it.

"you excited baby?" billie asked, focusing on the road.
billie invited you to come to the studio with her, so you could get a look on how the albums coming along.
"very!" you answered back, watching her hand make its way to your thigh.
walking into the studio felt almost natural, but you still spun out on all the fancy equipment.
"cmon mamas, sit down" billie said tapping your ass while heading towards the couch.
you follower her, finneas wasnt there yet so it was just you & billie. you continued to look around at everything that covered the room, it was awesome to see the inside of billies studio, you had never stayed only dropped her off a couple times.
"yo bils" finneas said walking in the door.
"& y/n!! its nice to see you dude!" he talked with the excitement clear in his voice.
"hey fin!!" you matched his tone, standing up to hug him.
"so she finally let you get an inside scoop huh?" finneas teased pulling away from the hug, staring at billie.
"bout time aye" you replied with a giggle
billie gave you both that look & within a flash you obeyed & sat back down next to her. finneas headed to his desk & started to work on stuff.
hours felt like minutes, it was crazy to actually see billie working & how creative they both were.
"you want lunch mamas?" billie asked, she didnt talk much to you but her touch would say otherwise.
"yeah sure!" you replied
"fin? you want something?" billie turned her focus to him
"ehh if you guys are gettin some"
"yeah ill drive" billie said
"you comin with baby?"
"probably not, if thats alright" you didnt really wanna go with them for many reasons, mainly cause you felt like you were dropping in on their time.
"alright mamas, stay safe" billie said kissing your forehead.
"you drive safely bils" you replied, going into kiss her lips.
she kissed you back, only shortly but you still felt the spark.
"cmon finny boy, lets go" billie said basically dragging finneas out the door & too her car.
time skip; 20 minutes
"we bring food!" billie announced walking inside, finneas not far behind.
"mm thankyou baby" you say, grabbing the fast food bag.
"i gotcha mamas" billie spoke, kissing you on the cheek then sitting back down to her previous spot.
"roll it fin!" billie shouts
finneas presses the record camera, facing it towards you.
"say hi or something y/n" finneas says chuckling.
you wave stupidly, giggling at yourself.
"my beautiful baaaabyyyy" billie says grabbing ahold of you & smiling at the camera, making you smile.
"alright alright, cmon lets continue." finneas spoke, putting the camera down & pressing play on the song theyre currently working on.
"oooo this is mean assss" billie singing was so peaceful, she knew you loved it.
billie then adjusted, grabbing you & cuddling you while still trying to sing. she fucked up afew words resulting in small giggles coming from you.
" you try doing this baby, its difficult" billie joked
you just rolled your eyes & moved around to get more comfy in billies arms.
hearing billies album in the works was the highlight of your forever.

bts jungkook's past life & its significance
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[111] clairvoyance + clarisentience + clairaudience tldr; past life + past lover tw; substance addiction + suicide more pictures at the end
the reading is genuine and done truthfully. i only write down what i can see, hear, feel, taste, etc. please send all questions and suggestions to my asks. positive vibes only!
AERI 🤍
a young boy.
there once was a young boy who lived in an old and bustling italian city. born from an affluent family with fame and riches, he was not short of anything... except a family. a stern father and an overbearing mother, caring more about the family's reputation and prestige than anything else. endless expectations he must meet as their only son, feeling incompetent with every small mistake. each day was only adding to a weight he could not relieve himself of. and so, more and more time passed. at a very young age of around 10, he hardened. when you look at him, he is not a child no more. only colorless eyes with a cold stare were all that were left of him.
to the countryside.
the family decided to move to the countryside for a limited period of time. <i do not know the reason. i don't see why they made that decision. it may have to do with the mother's illness.> a vacation home, one of the lands that the marquis inherited and maintained. it was a two-day bumpy ride in the carriage. all of the flamboyance he had surrounded himself was gone. outside the carriage, he can only see green upon green. grass fields, dirt roads, trees all around and only a small number of people in sight in humble clothes. their castle was now in sight; they had arrived. he got off and headed inside.
her.
10 he was outside when he saw her. unflattering white tunic, dirty face, blonde hair, and shiny brown eyes. she was petite and looked like she would come up to his shoulders. it seemed she was a commoner with no regard for manners, so he sneered at the sight of her. her eyes turned from a look of curiosity to furrowed brows and a look of hatred. she stormed off. "that was cute." he chuckled, then caught himself and headed back in.
14 he saw her at the grass field. she was laying down at their usual spot where the grass was low. she was looking at the sky, hands reaching up towards the clouds. she was humming. it was imperfect, of course, but an alluring sound - he had never heard that tune before. he had always known she loved singing, so he assumed it was a new tune she thought of. after a moment, he walked towards her; she heard him and turned to his direction, giving him an adorable beam that made him giddy and warm inside. he smiled at her. he laid down next to her and they talked for hours and hours, until he had to head back inside.
return to the city.
14 it was sudden. not expected at all. he had to return to the city now and did not even have time to say goodbye to her. he looked towards the grassfield and got on the carriage, swearing to himself that he'll come back for her.
her in the city.
15 he saw her and couldn't believe his eyes. she was in the city. she was beautiful. she looked much different than the last time that he saw her. she looked in his direction, and he beamed at her anticipating that she would be surprised. she took one glance then looked the opposite direction. she said something to the old woman next to her and walked away rather quickly. why did it seem like she was avoiding him? was she angry with him for leaving without telling her?
15-17 he was at the celebratory ball and saw her... and heard the rumors about her. illegitimate child, born out of wedlock, born from a wh*re, the shame of her family, ill-mannered, poorly dressed, undeserving of being invited to such an esteemed ball. she looked at him and her eyes looked anxious and tired - like she wanted to get out. he was about to walk towards her when other men approached him. he was at the age for marriage, so a lot of men from affluent families had told him that they wanted him to marry their daughters. but he didn't want to get married with anyone else. he knew who he wanted to be with... by the time he tried to get to where she was, she was already gone.
he left.
<at this point, i don't see a full continuation of visions but rather little glimpses, so bear with me if i jump around a lot in my descriptions.>
18-19 he left the city to go to the countryside. he wanted to see her more than anything or anyone else. the family name meant nothing to him because it was a responsibility and duty he never wanted in the first place. he wanted to feel the freedom he felt when he was with her. he got off the carriage and ran towards the grassfield. he was going to protect his family at all costs.
<at this point, it seems like she was pregnant with his son*.>
<listen to beginning portion of BUBBLE by Hiroyuki Sawano; i keep hearing it for this portion of the visions.>
there she was in the all-white field, carrying a cat in her hands, humming softly towards her tummy. her long hair and locks, her now matured and almost fragile body frame. she was beautiful... she was lovely. she turned around and looked towards him with a warm smile. it felt like all the color that was drained from his world, now returned to him. the beauty he saw in her eyes - the fierce passion and the life he saw in them - it was all just too wonderful and comforting for him. "i'm home." they made a sweet and powerful couple, one that transcended the boundaries of titles, reputations, and familial and financial backgrounds in this time period of italy.
her...... and the oath.
19-20 her tummy was now noticeably huge. there she was, on the wooden chair, rocking back and forth while singing for her son*. the cat, now old, was on her lap with its eyes closed, ears moving to the sound of her singing. it gently stroked her tummy with its tail. <i feel like crying. a bunch of emotions are welling up. it's a mix of gratitude, sorrow, nostalgia, warmth, and most of all, lots and lots of love.> he took a look at her, gave her a kiss on the forehead, and headed out.
he headed to his family land on the countryside, not to far from her and his home. his father had said he wanted to meet to apologize for his wrongdoings in the past. he had not planned on going, but she insisted that she meet with his father and see what he has to say, even if the situation may feel suspicious. he loved that about her. she always wished for his happiness above all else, and it felt nice to know that someone cared about him that much. he met his father and they were talking, until he suddenly had a unsettling feeling from the way his father was talking to him.
his head filled with angst and pure horror as he ran back to his home, to her. "please," he thought, "please be safe." from the distance, he can already see the smoke. the dread only continued to grow as he gripped onto any last string of hope that she and their child would be safe. she was nowhere in sight - just the house completely consumed by fire. with tears pouring down his face, he called out her name and tried to run into the house, but the villagers grabbed him and told him that there was no use. now he was screaming, never-ending howls of pure agony, as he was on his knees watching his home and his life fall apart before his eyes. he continued to stay there on his knees and would not budge no matter what the others told him. he was filled with tremendous guilt and regret. had he not gone, this might not have happened. he believed he deserved to die instead of her. a life without her was one he did not wish to live. years and years of relying on alcohol, and he showed no signs of getting better. her death completely broke him. that was it. he passed alone and unhappily and sang her tunes in tangled sounds, reminiscing their precious times together, before stabbing himself in the chest. "till we meet again," he said. he made an oath with himself that he will find her no matter what, even after death.
i see an unrelated scene where they both had four leaf clovers in their hair, possibly when they were getting "married" despite the backlash from his family and the social hierarchy from that time period.
him now and additional comments.
after that, he lived many different lives. he didn't remember his oath or his past life with her, but he somehow managed to find her in multiple of the lives he lived. some, he died young, some, he was much older or younger than her, some, they were lovers, some they were enemies. they met in ways that was even beyond what the universe can fathom. their souls so closely tangled and intertwined with one another that it almost feels sacred. the depth that can be felt from their strings of fate is truly immense.
september 1st, 1997, he is born. it's not surprising that he felt drawn to be a singer in this life and became a trainee right around the age he met her during his past life in italy. it's not surprising that he is fulfilling her unfulfilled dream of being a singer. throughout his lifetime so far, he may have felt that he is looking for someone special out there, accompanied by dreams that he cannot explain. he was probably fascinated by the concept of past lives, maybe even resorting to believing in a religion like buddhism which holds a similar ideology. he wishes for a love so deep that it's like he's melting inside - just like how he felt when he was with her. he believes in the idea that he can "recognize" the one he is meant to be with for the rest of his life. that longing he feels is not a mistake.
in this current life, he seems to have a much stronger attachment to his life in italy than any of the other ones. you can see that in his career, how he is the main vocal and is musically inclined and inspired just like her. as a result, we can guess that she may likely have a strong attachment to that life as well. she watched over him after she died from the fire until he willingly passed, so i would not be surprised if her career in this life is related to social work or a career where she can truly help others whether that comes in the shape of a doctor, psychologist, lawyer, etc. she may have a career where she helps people feel better and bring justice to emotions and situations that have long been neglected, because that's what she wished for during her life with him and truly wished to have been there by his side when he was struggling towards the end of his life.
because of how famous he and bts is, i don't doubt that she has already heard of or know of him. i don't know her current features, age, ethnicity, nationality, culture, etc. because it changes for every life they live, but i'm guessing that because the two of them were both italian in that life but from different regions or locations, it may be similar situation in this life as well. perhaps the same ethnicity but from different locations either in south korea or anywhere around the world really. i believe they will meet in this lifetime. i don't know in what way they'll meet and what dynamic they'll have, but i would like to humbly suggest that they'll reunite as lovers because of how much of a resemblance there is.
this is just an inkling, but they may have lots of people from that life reenter in their current life as well. that can come in the shape of animals, of family members, friends, acquaintances, and more. when he announces his marriage, i wonder if there will be any repeated significant symbolisms in their names, birthdates, and lives. it would be very interesting to see the overlaps between their lives in italy back then and their current lives.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
*= i intuitively got that the baby was a son for some reason so that's why i starred it each time. + there was also a very well-known and well-sought korean shaman who said something similar about how his current singing career is a fulfillment of a wish from his past life.

Comfort || Stiles Stilinski x fem!Reader
a/n: if you’re interested, i am writing a stiles stilinski x fem!oc on my wattpad linked here: veggiekiwi
Tumblr media
warnings: angst, mentions of death
words: 897
“I’m so tired.”
Were the three words that finally broke you, hearing them uttered from your boyfriend’s mouth.
Your eyes widened with fear as you turned to Stiles, who was attempting to sleep next to you, after a week of nightmares, waking up screaming - he had probably gotten a total of 8 hours of sleep in the past week. Your heart broke at the sight of him looking at you, something unexplainable swam in his whiskey irises illuminated by the moonlight.
“Oh Stiles,” you whispered, turning your body towards his, your hand traveling to his pale cheek. He was cold, which scared you, and he was crying, which scared you even more. Stiles was never known to break easily, he was a man of honor, portrayed himself as strong, when inside he saw himself as weak.
“I don’t know what to do anymore,” he admitted quietly, tears falling down his nose as he stared into your eyes, “I’m afraid to sleep (Y/N),” he paused. His own larger hand goes to your chin, brushing it softly before retracting it, “I'm afraid.”
You felt like sobbing right then and there, hearing those words fall from his mouth. After the past year of fighting supernatural, it was rare to hear Stiles admit to something like that, after his father almost got sacrificed, after almost losing you. He had to be strong, and especially in front of you.
It wasn’t your turn to be comforted though, instead it was his. You pulled his body into yours, his head resting under yours as you kissed the top of his head, his shoulders beginning to rack with sobs, “I just want to sleep Y/N. I’m tired of these nightmares, the days I think I’m dreaming-” He cut himself off, wrapping his strong arms around your lower frame, they almost felt weak.
You shushed him slowly, stroking his hair in comfort. Truthfully, you didn’t know what to say, you hadn’t gone through what the boy did, so you let him cry into your chest, holding him as much as needed, letting him release the feelings he was keeping within himself.
“It’s okay my love,” you began to whisper, “It’s okay to be tired, you’ve gone through so much, you’re only 17.” You continued to stroke the boy's hair, one hand moving to his back, “You’re the strongest person I know, Stiles.” You admitted, and this was true, out of the whole pack, you truly believed it.
The boy in your arms shook his head slowly, “That’s just it (Y/N),” he whispered, moving from your grasp to meet your eyes, “I’m not strong, I feel so weak. I’m human, I can’t do things the way you can, the way Scott can, I can’t do anything.”
You furrowed your eyebrows at the revelation of the boy's feelings, “Stiles…” You began, your voice low, “That’s not true,” you shook your head, your hands going to the boys under eyes wiping away the tears that continued to fall. “You’re the smartest, strongest person I’ve ever met. You are constantly there for the pack, we can always count on you for anything.” You kissed the boy's cheek tenderly, “You always figure shit out.” You smiled weakly at this statement, hoping to cheer the boy up, which you did slightly. His eyes lit up as they stared into your own.
He shook his head, wiping his tears haphazardly, “You don’t get it.”
Your heart shattered at these words, your eyes casting downward to your legs entangled with his. He was right, you didn’t get it, you never really would. But that wouldn't stop you from trying to understand, Stiles needed you to, whether he knew it or not.
It was silent for a while, your eyes drifting back up to the boy in front of you, his eyes already on you. “I couldn’t have done any of it without you (Y/N),” he spoke, his voice hoarse from crying. His hand moved to your cheek.
You held a small smile at his touch, something that’s always comforted you, “We couldn’t have done it without you. I couldn’t have done it without you Stiles.
His head shook, “I almost lost you (Y/N),” his voice broke with these words, tears fell again at the thought of that fateful night, you in his arms, dying. “There was nothing I could do to save you, I couldn’t take your pain, I couldn’t heal you-“ you cut him off, your gentle hand going to his chin.
“Stiles.” your soft voice echoing in his ears, “I don’t need that from you, what you did, holding me there, comforting me,” you stopped yourself, attempting to hold yourself together, thinking about the way he begged and pleaded for you to be okay that night. “You were everything I needed Stiles.” you pursed your lips, pulling your body closer to his, “You always will be.”
Stiles accepted you moving closer to him, he wrapped and arm around you and used his other to tilt your chin upwards, kissing you tenderly. As he pulled away there was a look of hope in his eye, but something else that you couldn’t decipher. He smiled weakly at you, “I love you (Y/N),” he whispered, his brown eyes scanning your face.
You pushed yourself into his chest, wrapping your arms around his frame and muttering into his bare chest, “I love you Stiles.”

when bf!eren has an injury (headcanons)
with dot points this time! get excited guys
masterlist
Tumblr media
bf!eren develops shoulder tendonitis playing basketball over time, and it flares up really bad at practice one day
you notice straight away that something is wrong because bf!eren always hugs you when he gets home from practice (sweaty and all), and he made a beeline for the bedroom instead of hanging around the kitchen like a FLY before you have to force him to have a shower
bf!eren tries to hide the pain he's in (wincing when you turn around, popping ibuprofen in the bathroom etc etc
it's only when you ask him what's wrong 17 times before he gives in and tells you (but don't worry guys 'its not a big deal')
not a big deal MY ASS
bf!eren cannot sleep, which means you don't sleep because he's tossing and turning and groaning and whining, and omfg, not a big deal, shut the fuck up
when you've finally had enough, you turn the light on and make him tell you everything that's wrong; where does it hurt? how much does it hurt? what will make you feel better? what did the team physio say?
what will make bf!eren feel better? after some crude remarks, you roll your eyes and get anti-inflam cream and an ice pack from the kitchen
while you're filling the bag with ice, 'help! i'm dying from neglect in here!' 😐
sorry? excuse me?
contrary to popular belief, i believe this man wants to be babied when he is sick, injured etc but only by you (if anyone else found out how he acts, he would resort to criminal offences)
bf!eren is very howl-esque in the sense that he is extremely dramatic when he's the bed-ridden one
when you enter the room, a reminder: it is 4am, he has his elbow thrown over his eyes, the duvet is kicked off his half-naked body, and he's sighing
your eyes are drooping from how tired you are, and bf!eren is practising dramatics 😐 at this hour 😐
you don't speak when you place the cream and ice pack on the bedside table, turn the light off, and get back in bed
bf!eren peeks an eye out from under his arm, wide awake
yes, he is very very grateful that you're helping him, but attention!!!
he craves it
he says his apologies lowly in the early dawn light, his words slurred because he's so tired and in so much pain
you roll over in bed and give him a deadpan stare, and he knows then how annoying he's been (both when he was hiding his pain and when he was being dramatic)
silently, you reach over him to grab the cream, sitting cross-legged next to him as you tell him to sit upright
bf!eren does exactly as you say because he can't take the pain anymore (and he doesn't want to piss you off more than he already has)
you rub the cream softly on his shoulder, noticing his winces and inhales through his teeth at the mere touches to his shoulder
bro is in pain pain
when you're finished, bf!eren will pull you into his uninjured side where you tuck your face into his neck because cuddles <3
but somehow, he ends up with his head on your chest??????
after a morning of sleeping, because he's finally comfortable, you wake up before him and make him breakfast
maybe it's a bad idea. maybe it feeds his ego 🙄, but bf!eren loves it
he's got a cocky smirk on his sleepy face, shirtless in bed, shovelling pancakes and bacon in his mouth
an ice pack (that is 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off) is taped to his shoulder because he can't not use it
despite being stuck to his shoulder with tape, the ice pack falls off every 0.8 seconds because he won't stop moving
so you forbid him from doing everything (because you can't deal with the drama for longer than 2 weeks)
washing his hair for him
getting him dressed
when he tries to grab a glass from the top shelf MANNNNN
you scold him because his shoulder is not allowed to move like that right now
'i'm dying of boredom! or maybe just dying' when he tries to play ps5 and you take the remote away (lmao its a little funny)
bf!eren feels guilty about being clingy after like 3 days because you have to go to class
but you, you!! you are happy to do all of it because, even if you hate being babied, bf!eren will go to the ends of the earth to make sure you're feeling your best no matter the problem
so maybe it's not so bad when you both have each other's backs <3

“SLUT!” - wriothesley
Tumblr media
❝ handprints in wet cement, adorned with smoke on my clothes. lovelorn and nobody knows, love thorns all over this rose. ❞
summary: in which you’d be the target of your romance with the duke, bear the burden of your relationship
warnings: reader is gn, slut shaming, contrary to the title this is totally sfw!
notes: day 17 and first day of the vault tracks! this was the easiest of the vault tracks to write tbh haha, i hope you like it!
taglist (open): @staretes , @rynnlvrs , @sentifua , @i-probably-sleep-too-much , @reilly34 , @qqingque , @akutasoda , @mhiieee , @starryshinyskies , @kazemiya , @pix-stuff , @inscaraithrust
Tumblr media
flamingo pink, was the color of your cheeks whenever you touched wriothesley. sunrise boulevard was where you would dream of escaping to one day though his duties as the duke forbade him from leaving the fortress of meropide for extended periods of time. but for you he would indulge in all your desires.
being this young was a form of art, you were clear and pure like the aquamarine waters of fontaine. what if all he needed was you and all you needed was him?
and so you got love-struck by him. people describe cupid as shooting the heart by cupid shot you in the head, removing all ability for you to think about anything else but him. you’d get lovesick all over your bed, staring at your ceiling for hours and hours at end thinking about wriothesley.
you’d love to think that he would never forget you, forget you, his partner, that he had held his hand out for. your handprints in wet cement that would forever be engraved and stay with him forever, leaving your sign that he could not erase. you were lovelorn, the rose that symbolised you had love thorns to defend yourself but what you didn’t expect was what you had to fight against.
that you’d pay the price of being a target of slut-shaming, and yet wriothesley was not subjected to the same fate as you. they might have been looking at you both but the daggers were aimed at your forehead, your every move, your every word, your fashion style, your life.
and when it was all to much for you to handle, all you had was to murmur a simple code word and he’d wait for you with his muscular arms open. the sticks and stones that people would throw at you would freeze mid-air when you were shielded in his embrace, hidden away from the rest of the world.
everybody wanted wriothesley, that was your crime if you had to be judged by the oratrice mechanique d’analyse cardinale. they were jealous of you, jealous of how you had scored him effortlessly. you were there at the wrong place but right time and right person, or so you thought. and you’d break down behind doors and he’s pull you in because in a world full of boys, he was your gentleman.
you were paying a price for this which added to your laments. you endured this shaming, labeling with him who you were so smitten with.
half-asleep and taking your time in the comfort of his presence, the tangerine lights illuminating your bodies was a secret luxury you rarely got. yet he didn’t say that he was in love with you, but he was going to, you knew it. half-awake, he’d take this chance to but you knew this was a big mistake.
“it might blow up in your pretty face,” you had said, tracing the scars on his arms and back gently. you weren’t saying that he had to do it anyway, but he was going to after all.
even though he weathered the barbs with you, he still wasn’t giving you the love you wanted even though you were the one who was being criticized by the relationship. you had to manoeuvre the social labels and expectations that you get out on your shoulders. you were living your best life as all young people do and had to experience slut shaming for simply being young and in love with wriothesley.
and if they called you a slut, you knew it might have been worth it for once. for you were drunk, drunk in love.

Lee Seokmin (DK) x fem!reader
Genre: mostly fluff, with a hint of anxiety
Word Count: 10.9k
Wanings: food mentions. adult language. a few parts may come off as suggestive, but not really. y/n is an environmentalist but not vegan.
[Series: Serenity Street 17] Sleepwalking is a nasty issue. You find yourself in the correct building but wrong apartment, sharing a room with a ridiculously cute boy who seems to find it amusing.
Note: This one goes out to all of my ambitious girlies! Keep working towards your dreams!
Tumblr media
The moment you stepped onto the evening bus you regretted the decision.
With a bright smile, Sunny greeted you, rushing to move her bags into her lap so you could take the seat next to her, all while never once taking her eyes off you. Her brows rose in a questioning manner. You cursed under your breath as your neighbour’s usual warm smile morphed into a look of disbelief when you sank into the seat next to her.
With a sigh, you raised a hand to silence her. “I know.”
But she didn’t take the hint. “When was the last time you slept? Did you sleep at all last night?”
“Why do you keep asking questions you already know the answer to?” you whined and hugged your bag close to your chest. “I’m sure you heard me showering at 3 am.”
“The bags under your eyes aren’t supposed to make it look like you have a black eye,” she told you as if she hadn’t heard you at all, still eyeing you in worry. “How much did you sleep? You look worse than Jeonghan when he thought I was mad at him.”
“Does it matter?” You huffed. “At least I’m getting some rest.”
“I think it only counts as rest if you actually get 8 hours of sleep every once in a while,” she countered with a snicker, “which, by the looks of it,” she gave you a once-over, followed by a disappointed a sigh, “you haven’t had in years.”
“I sleep just fine. I’m healthy, I am productive,” you defended and tightened your hold on your bag. “Sleep is for the weak anyway.”
Sunny rolled her eyes. “Sometimes I wonder how you’re friends with me but not Jihoon. Your mentality is almost identical.”
“Listen, somebody has to do the work. And unlike some, I’d actually like my work to amount to something bigger than an average paycheck that barely covers my bills. I have ambitions. I want to make the world a better place.”
“Honey, at this rate you’re not gonna live long enough to see your ambitions come to life,” she grumbled under her breath and linked your arms. “It’s okay to rest every once in a while. Take a week off from work and actually just do something fun for a change.”
You grimaced. “I’d rather not. Messes with my groove.”
Sunny had no words left to say. She stared at you with a wide mouth for a moment before sputtering, “How– How are we friends?”
“Fate brought us together so you could nag me at all possible hours,” you joked, looking out the window now to avoid missing your stop. “But seriously, I don’t need to rest. I love my job and my colleagues and I’m making a change.”
“You should at least go to sleep early tonight.”
“Can’t. I have a big report due next week and I don’t want to miss my deadlines.”
Her gaze hardened immediately as she cursed, “Why, you little–”
“Hey!”
“I’m just worried about you,” she mumbled through a pout just as your bus arrived at your shared destination. With a begrudging sigh, she unlinked your arms and gave you an encouraging pat on the shoulder as the two of you stood up and walked over to the door “Well, I guess it’s your life. But I swear–” she pointed at your face, eyes squinted in a glare; she interrupted herself mid-sentence, “no, I vow that if you collapse under the stress, I’ll personally go and hand in a letter of resignation in your name.”
You scoffed at her empty promises, smiled, and stepped off the bus. You had no doubt you would be just fine and she was overreacting over nothing. She couldn’t wrap her mind around your work ethic and goals – she was built of an entirely different wood.
Then again, you couldn’t deny you often felt a little jealous of her. The nagging feeling hit once again when you looked up to find Jeonghan standing at the gate of your building, his smile widening the closer Sunny and you got to him. You envied that she had found – through trials and tribulations, you’d admit – a perfect man to brighten her days while you had no time to even contemplate romance.
“How was your day, my beautiful lady?” Jeonghan greeted your neighbour with a sweet kiss on her forehead before taking her bag and leading her inside with a hand on her back. He didn’t forget to offer you a welcoming smile and a friendly “good evening” as well, both of which you returned.
“Are you going to the 5th floor tonight?” you asked them as the three of you trudged up the stairs and they made no effort to walk to her apartment.
Sunny nodded. “It’s movie night and he has the bigger TV.”
Jeonghan let out a loud ‘ha!’ and grinned at her victoriously. “So you admit it. My TV’s better than yours!”
“That’s–” She sighed deeply. “That is not the point right now–”
“How is it not?”
Unable to continue watching their lovers’ quarrel, you hummed and waved them goodbye before promptly unlocking your apartment, walking in, and quickly locking it again as if their bickering or cheesy nicknames could otherwise follow after you.
You had far more important things to do, after all.
With a tired sigh, you warmed up some of last night’s leftovers and opened your laptop. The familiar Times New Roman font on your screen prompted a soft groan, but still you squared your shoulders and got to work.
If you were quick, you’d get this done way before the deadline. Maybe you could even go to work in the morning with a nearly finished report! You smiled at the thought.
Tumblr media
But life doesn’t always go as expected.
You thought you were old enough to know this fact already. After all, when had life ever followed your expectations? It seemed to enjoy throwing curve balls right at your head.
You woke up with a splitting headache at 7 am, an hour before your usual alarm. It was strange – you concluded so as you stared at the time on your phone through a squint. With a soft huff, you let the phone drop back onto the mattress and your head onto the pillows.
“Sorry, did I wake you?” you then heard a voice.
Your eyes snapped open. There was someone in your room.
The voice sounded apologetic as it continued in a whisper, “It’s okay. I didn’t mean to make any noise. Sorry. Let me just get my shirt and–”
You sat up abruptly to stare at the intruder – a handsome familiar-looking man shuffled around the walk-in closet. Worst of all – he was shirtless. You dreaded to think of what had happened the night before.
“Who– Who are you?” you stuttered out, instinctively lifting the blanket higher against your torso despite the fact that you were fully clothed. “Why are you in my apart–”
Then it hit you. The worst of the worst realities.
“Holy shit, this isn’t my apartment!” you screamed and jumped out of bed to apologise profusely. “I’m so so sorry! I had no idea! I don’t how–”
“Hey, hey!” The man – now wearing a crispy white button-up shirt – walked out of the closet hurriedly, a worried smile on his face as he rushed to comfort you with a gentle hand on your back, leading you to sit back on the bed. “It’s okay.” He let out a laugh. “I was going to let you sleep for a while more. It’s okay.”
You had no clue how he could be so calm about this. What the hell happened last night?!
You stuttered. You sputtered. You gasped for air like a fish out of the water. You were on the verge of a panic attack at 7 am in the morning and he was smiling, all while patting and rubbing your back like it was the most natural thing.
“Why am I here?” you eventually managed to breathe out. You hated to admit that his calm and friendly nature was helping you adjust to the situation.
He raised a brow, his soothing movements stopping. “I was hoping you could answer that.”
When you made no move to do so and only offered him a puzzled look, he shrugged. “I woke up to someone trying to unlock my door at 2 am. Almost cried, actually, but then I heard a knock and Mingyu telling me to open the door, so I did and you…” He gestured widely to his room. “Well, you came in and went straight to bed as if it was your own home. I didn’t know what to do but Mingyu and I figured you needed to rest.”
You stared at him with a dropped jaw. “You didn’t think to call the police?”
“Well,” he grimaced, “I was going to but you really looked like you needed to sleep.” He gave you a worried look, inspecting your face. “You still do, actually. Do you sleep at all, like, outside of my bed?”
“I sleep plenty,” you scoffed and got out of the bed, wiping your face with your sleeves as if to rid it of any evidence that might suggest otherwise. With an awkward look, you bowed and began heading out. “Well, thank you for… your hospitality. I’ll get going. I’m sorry for bothering you. This won’t happen again.”
Before he could say another word, you slammed the door shut behind you and began heading… where were you heading?
You looked around the hallway. It was still your building. You could recognise these hallways even in your sleep. A quick glance informed you that you had just stepped out of apartment 1D – the apartment directly below yours.
You groaned as the realisation sank in that you could never visit the first floor without feeling awkward again. With a sigh, you headed up the stairs to your own apartment.

“Isn’t that Seokmin’s apartment?” Sunny pointed out when you told her of your horrible adventure on the bus home from work later that day. She frowned a little as she tried to recall exactly who lived there.
“Whoever it was, at least it wasn’t Jihoon.” You shuttered to even think about it.
Sunny grimaced. “Yeah, I’d be bailing you both out of jail right about now.” She then shrugged. “Yeah, I think that’s Seokmin’s apartment. He really just let you stay the night there?”
“Apparently?” You wanted to laugh at the insanity of the situation. “I have no recollection of what happened or how I ended up there. The last thing I remember is working on my report in my kitchen and then waking up in a shirtless man’s apartment.”
“Shirt–” She almost broke her neck at the speed she turned her head to look at you with wide eyes. “He was shirtless when you woke up?!”
“He was getting dressed for work–”
“Well, is he hot?!”
You had never wanted to throw someone out of a moving vehicle so much before. “Is this what you’re focusing on right now? I’m going through a crisis here!”
“Yeah but–”
“You literally have a boyfriend!”
“Yeah, but–” She paused mid-excuse and nodded her head in acknowledgement. “Right. You have a point there.”
“How did I possibly end up in his apartment at night without remembering it?” you contemplated, leaning your head back against the seat. “I can’t think of a single explanation.”
“It is weird,” Sunny hummed in agreement as the bus rolled to your stop. The two of you got off.
“Where’s Jeonghan?” you wondered in surprise upon not seeing him all the way up to the second floor.
Sunny shrugged, still deep in thought about your predicament. “I don’t know. Probably causing trouble with Junhui again. Possibly getting on Joshua’s or Hyesoo’s nerves. Maybe he stole someone’s mail or took the hinges off someone’s door. Not my problem.”
You could only stare at her in absolute wonder. “He’s your boyfriend.”
“He’s his own person.” She then clapped her hands together in revelation, stopping in her steps in the middle of the hallway. “Didn’t you say you used to sleep-walk as a kid? I swear you mentioned it over coffee once.”
You nodded. “Yeah, but it hasn’t happened in a literal decade.”
“Who’s to say it didn’t happen again last night?” she suggested with a shrug. “By the way, do you wanna come over for coffee and cake? Jeonghan bought one on sale because the expiration date is today, but it’s sort of giant.”
After contemplating for a moment (more of a debate really, won by the grumbling of your stomach), you agreed and followed her into her apartment.
As the two of you walked into the kitchen, she continued, “All I’m saying is that there’s a lot going on in your life right now and maybe it all worked together – the stress, the lack of sleep, you get the gist – and now you’re sleepwalking again.”
“I sincerely doubt it.”
“You should see a doctor about that,” Jeonghan suggested. You jumped in your spot before finding him sitting at the dining table, fully focused on assembling a lego set. He continued without a care in the world, “Sleepwalking can be a serious issue.”
Your eyes narrowed. “Why are you here?”
He finally glanced up to offer you an amused look and a chuckle. “I’m her boyfriend. Where else would I be?”
“I invited her over for coffee and cake,” Sunny informed him with a kiss on his cheek. “Play nice.”
“Yes, princess,” he spoke in reply before turning back to you. “But I would really go to the doctor if I was you. If it’s bad enough that you wake up in someone else’s apartment, it’s bad enough to warrant a doctor’s visit.”
You felt yourself pale, your blood running both ice cold and lava hot. “How– Why do you know that?”
“It’s the talk of the town,” he joked before waving his joke off. “Just kidding. I met Seokmin on my way to the store earlier and he told me. He seemed worried about you.”
“So it is Seokmin!” Sunny cheered victoriously. “I knew it! I told you!”
Jeonghan raised an eyebrow and laughed. “Good job.”
“Thanks.”
You sat down at the table and slumped in the chair. “But if I’m sleepwalking, why did I go to his apartment?”
“Isn’t it right below yours?” Jeonghan pointed out like it was obvious. “Asleep you probably thought you were going to your own apartment. You just mixed up the floors.”
“So,” you sighed and rubbed the bridge of your nose before meeting his eyes and maintaining eye contact, “what you’re suggesting is that I fell asleep–”
“Yes.”
“–in my apartment–”
“Mhm.”
“–then left my apartment for some reason–”
“That much seems obvious.”
“–and then went to Seokmin’s apartment–”
“For some reason, yes.”
“–one level below my own?”
Eyes widening, he hummed at the slight error in the logic. “You do have a point. Why would you leave your own apartment to go to your apartment?”
“My head hurts just listening to this,” Sunny informed the two of you while serving the cake. As a slice fell over on a plate she quickly assigned to Jeonghan, she suddenly suggested, “What if you thought you were going on a walk and then returned home?”
Jeonghan leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms over his chest as he began recounting, “So, what you think happened is that she fell asleep–”
“I’m going to kick the both of you out if you start again,” his girlfriend declared all of a sudden, pointing a knife in his direction. “I’m serious.”
“It is a reasonable guess though,” you decided as Sunny placed a plate of cake in front of you. “I do love going on walks when I’m stressed.”
“Then–”
A knock on the door interrupted the conversation. You watched in mild amusement as Sunny and Jeonghan silently argued over who should open the door and if they should open the door at all. Eventually, to your surprise, Jeonghan relented and got up with a slight groan. The moment he was out of the kitchen, Sunny stole his seat across from you.
“I think the worst part is that I don’t know how to face him again, like ever,” you started the conversation again while taking a bite of the cake. “It was so awkward.”
“Speaking of awkward,” Jeonghan announced and led the newest guest into the apartment. The now familiar feeling of both ice and lava in your veins made a new appearance as you recognised the visitor. Your spoon dropped back on the table.
Seokmin offered you a friendly smile and a wave. “Ah, so that’s where you are. I tried your door but no one answered so I wondered if I had the wrong place.”
“You–” That was the only syllable you managed to voice. Your brain was scattered, filled with pictures of the awkward morning as well as a single fluttering butterfly carrying an obnoxious sign that said ‘he cares’. You gulped.
Thankfully, Sunny stepped in. She smiled brightly and ushered Seokmin to take a seat while she found an extra plate.
“I wasn’t going to come and bother anyone–” he tried to reject the offer of cake, but failed to. He was too friendly for his own good – just like the rumours around the building often said. He sat in the seat Sunny had preoccupied just seconds ago, right across from you, and smiled at her. “Well, if you insist.”
“What can I do?” Jeonghan sighed and theatrically looked away as he started his monologue. “Everyone loves my girlfriend so much. How can I possibly keep her–”
“Stop being melodramatic and come eat, idiot,” Sunny laughed and took the seat next to you. “So, Seokmin, what brings you to my friend over here?”
Seokmin opened his mouth to reply before turning to you and softly asking, “Is it okay to talk about it here?”
Sunny chuckled. “About her waking up in your apartment? Go ahead. I think everyone in the building knows already.”
“Oh.” He offered you an awkward-looking smile. “Well, sorry about that. I only mentioned it to Mingyu and Jeonghan but I guess– Nevermind. I just wanted to tell you to not worry about it.” His smile brightened, genuine and full of warmth all of a sudden. “We all have rough days – and rough nights – and I’m just glad you got some rest.”
“I have one question,” Jeonghan raised his arm before asking, “where did you sleep?”
“Me?” Seokmin shrugged. “The sofa. There was a woman in my bed.”
You somehow felt both worse and better than before. At least you knew he didn’t hold a grudge – after all, he seeked you out just to tell you it had been fine – but at the same time: you made this poor man sleep on the sofa instead of his objectively comfortable bed.
“I’m so sorry–”
“I said it’s fine,” he laughed and reached out to pat your hand. “I really don’t mind. You looked like you were sleeping very well. But–” he tilted his head in thought, a slight frown appearing, “–is it possible you were sleepwalking? You didn’t react at all last night, to anything. You just… brushed past us like we weren’t even there. I don’t know if you even had your eyes open.”
Sunny all but slammed her spoon on the table to give you a haughty look. “Yep. Told you. You were sleepwalking.”
You frowned. “I guess it’s possible.”
“Should I…” Seokmin scrunched up his nose in thought. “Should I maybe keep a look out in case this happens again?”
Immediately you shook your head. “No. No need. It was a one-time thing. A fluke. It was nothing. Won’t happen again.” In your attempts to not look at him, you happened to eye the clock. Your jaw dropped. “Oh. I should go home. I have–”
“–a report due in a week and deadlines to meet,” Sunny finished for you with a laugh. “I know, I know. Go.”
Jeonghan spoke up as well, “Take the plate and another slice of cake before you go. I want to know you eat at least a little between your work.”
You did as you were told and made your escape without another word, not even a goodbye to Seokmin.
You had no time to feel guilty or consider that your heart fluttered a little at the thought of him coming to find you. Once again, you buried your feelings into lines of Times New Roman in your report.
Tumblr media
“Oh, you come here too?” you heard his voice just two days later at the grocery store.
It was a little surprising to find him there: the store was a good mile further from the one closest to your building. Like a startled owl, you stared and blinked at him in the cereal aisle.
As you opened your mouth to respond, he chuckled and looked away at the cereals. “Don’t worry. You don’t have to talk to me. I just needed to get some Fruit Loops and figured I might as well say hi.” He placed the cereal in question into his basket and offered you one more friendly smile and a playful wave. “So, hi!”
“Hi,” you managed to drag out as you lifted your hand in a wave.
With a chuckle, he turned and headed away to the next aisle. You thought you were free from him for the day.
But alas: you found him again when you went to get eggs. He seemed to be contemplating between two brands. You tried your best to go unnoticed as you searched for your favourite local free range brand. To you dismay, he stood right in front of the eggs you seeked.
“Excuse me,” you started and tapped his shoulder when he didn’t seem to notice.
He smiled upon recognising you. “Yeah?”
“Could you move? I want those eggs.”
“The expensive ones?” He raised an eyebrow and handed you a carton. “They’re almost triple the price of the store brand.”
“But they’re free range and locally sourced. You should try them,” you explained with the slightest bit of enthusiasm before placing eggs into your cart and walking away in the direction you thought him least likely to follow.
You truly thought you were free of him when you went to the checkout, but once again, as if tasked by god himself to be wherever you went, Seokmin was in front of you in queue, meticulously placing his items on the counter. As he turned to put away his basket, his eyes found yours and a bright smile appeared on his face. “Oh, it’s you again!”
“It’s me again,” you replied with an awkward laugh.
“Are you leaving too?” he wondered while fishing his bag for his wallet. When you nodded, his eyes lit up. “Do you need a ride home?”
Your eyes widened. “A ride?”
Why was he offering you a ride home? Why was he so friendly with you at all? You had broken into his apartment – in the eyes of the legal system anyway – and he was smiling at you like you were a beloved friend.
“Of course. We should stick together, no? We’re neighbours, after all– Hold on,” he interrupted himself to respond to the cashier, “Yes, by card please.Thank you.”
“You might have to wait a moment then,” you finally relented when he turned to you once again, eyes resembling a puppy. His smile widened at your words and he nodded.
The ride home was short and awkward. You greatly feared he would try to retaliate for the emotional damage you might’ve caused by sleeping in his apartment. To your relief, he did not such thing and only continued cheerfully chattering.
“–but I feel like a dog would be too much work, you know? I love dogs but I don’t have that kind of time.” He offered you a glance. “Do you have any pets?”
You scrunched up your face in thought as the car rolled to a stop in the parking lot of the building. “I have a cactus.”
“... Does it have a name?”
Eager to not disappoint, you blurted out the first name that came to mind: “Bertha.” You shut your eyes in shame.
But as the two of you got out of his small red car, he laughed. “Bertha? Sounds lovely. Is she high-maintenance?”
“Very.”
“Yeah?”
You decided you liked his laughter and the bright smile that came with. “Easier than a dog though.”
He laughed louder at that and handed you your grocery bags. “I bet. Maybe I should get a cactus too.”
“I highly recommend,” you chuckled, finding his laughter contagious. “It’s very fulfilling to watch it do absolutely nothing all-year-round.”
When the two of you got into the hallway, he paused in front of the staircase. As you were about to ask him about it, he asked, “Do you need help with your bags?”
“No, I’m–”
“They look heavy.” He frowned before holding up a single finger, jogging over to his door, dropping his singular bag in front of it, and running back to you. Before you could formally protest, he grabbed the bags from your hands and began the journey up the stairs. When you froze in your spot, he turned to ask, “Well, aren’t you coming? Or were you going to sleep at mine again?”
Your face burned at the teasing comment. You decided following after him was the lesser evil.
“There we go,” he cheered when the two of you reached your door. He rubbed his hands against his thighs a few times, awkwardly like a schoolboy, before smiling and waving goodbye. “I guess this is goodbye for the day. It was nice talking to you.”
You didn’t manage to even thank him before he was already halfway down the stairs. Maybe you made him as nervous as you made him. As you went to sleep that night, you replayed the interaction over and over again in your head, failing to hide a smile at the memory.
Tumblr media
The valley of the mattress had a hold over you. You had never been so comfortable waking up – well, with the exception of maybe once or twice.
The pillows were the perfect temperature, the blanket hugged you just right, the big teddy bear you hugged to your chest smelled fresh out of the washing machine–
“Since when do I have a teddy bear?” you grumbled in confusion and pried your eyes open. You felt all blood rush away from your face as you looked at the bear – light brown with a baby blue bow, its eyes shining up at you.
You had never even seen this bear before.
Cursing under your breath, you glanced around the room. You were back in your very own personal hell full of flowing beige curtains, white unfamiliar sheets, and teddy bears: the hell known as Seokmin’s apartment.
The realisation brought tears of frustration to your eyes, but you were too stubborn to let them loose. It was barely 8 am but you were already on the verge of crying – what a joke.
Wiping your eyes, you all but slammed the bear down on the bed (you’ll never admit you did feel a little bad about it seconds later and gave it a little pat on the head) and stood up. You stumbled out of the bedroom and towards the front door.
As you reached for the doorknob – the final obstacle on your journey out of hell –, you heard his voice, sweet as honey like always, “Oh, you’re not going to stay for breakfast?”
You froze.
“I made extra waffles and all,” he added, sounding a little dejected. You didn’t have the heart to tell him no, so you sighed softly and turned around to give him a tight-lipped not-quite-genuine smile. His own grin brightened at the sight. “Is that a yes? You’ll stay?”
“Only for the waffles,” you lied and took a seat at his table.
He laughed and placed a plate of fresh food in front of you before taking the seat across from you. “Not because you don’t want me to feel bad?”
“No,” you grabbed a fork and began filling it with food, “I just don’t like food waste.”
“Oh, right! Minghao said you work for an environmental company. That sounds cool.”
“Yeah?” You swallowed your food. “What about you? What do you do for work?”
He cleared his throat as though the question had caught him by surprise and he was too shy to say. After a moment of silence, he bashfully admitted, “I’m a music teacher at primary school.”
You blinked in surprise. “A music teacher?”
“Well, I wanted to be a singer– a musical actor, actually,” he explained, his voice fluctuating in volume and his ears bright red, “but I’m a little too shy to audition. So I just stuck with teaching others to sing.”
“That’s so cool though,” you told him with a smile. “Are you good at singing?”
His ears seemed to turn an even deeper red. “My friends think so but I don’t know. I think there’s still a lot of room for improvement.”
“Then why not audition? You only live once.”
He seemed thoughtful all of a sudden, watching your increasingly awkward self. You were just about ready to apologise for your possibly intrusive question when he softly asked, “Why not rest and live a little? You only live once, right?”
The question felt awfully pointed and you didn’t fail to let him know with a glare.
“I’m serious,” he declared, his lips pouting a little as if he was actually upset at your lack of self-care. “Whenever I see you, you’re always rushing somewhere. The only person you seem to be friends with is Sunny, and maybe Jeonghan by association.”
You opened your mouth to defend yourself. “I’m also friends with Minghao–”
“He barely even leaves his apartment. He doesn’t count.”
“He counts!”
“Do I count?”
“Of course you–” Your eyes widened as did his smile.
“We’re friends now!” he declared while pointing an accusatory finger at you, his voice raising in excitement. You began to protest but he was having none of it. “No take-backs! We’re friends – you just said so!”
“I didn’t actually–”
“Nope. No. We’re friends.” He narrowed his eyes at you, his smile never fading. “Or do you just sleep in random guys’ beds?”
You wanted to protest, you really did, but there’s only so much you can say to defend yourself against such accusations. Besides, his bright smile at your defeated nod could’ve won awards.
Tumblr media
Accidentally waking in his apartment didn’t end. No. In fact, it somehow got worse.
Once every week quickly turned into once every few days. You were tempted to start keeping track of how often you woke up in your own bed but one could assume the numbers wouldn’t be too impressive.
You grew accustomed to the smell of his detergent and the smell of breakfast in the mornings. Was this what it might’ve been like to be in a relationship?
“How come you’ve never dated anyone?” he wondered once over breakfast.
You shrugged. “I don’t have the time.”
“Too busy saving the world?” he teased like he often did. Over time you stopped finding it annoying (perhaps because he sounded almost genuinely proud of you every time he said it).
“I assume you don’t get a lot of dates either,” you bit right back between bites of pancakes.
He seemed to be taken aback by your observation. “What makes you think that?”
“You sleep with a teddy bear, Seokmin,” you deadpanned.
He pouted. “Fluffy is a premium sleep companion.”
You laughed. “Is he?”
“You steal him every other night!” he accused with a chuckle. “I’m sure you know how great he is by now.”
“He’s truly a– What did you say? A premium sleep companion?”
“That’s what the label said when I got him.”
“Maybe I should invest in a bear too,” you wondered thoughtfully between bites.
Seokmin raised an eyebrow. “Then why don’t you?”
“No ti–”
“If you make the ‘no time’ excuse again, I will scream,” he said with in utmost seriousness. You promptly shut up: Seokmin’s lung capacity was well-known by everyone in the building.
After a moment of silence, he cleared his throat. “You know, if it’s physical contact that you need to sleep– Nevermind. How are the pancakes?”
Whether it was to save your or his dignity, you chose to ignore his first comment and answered only the last question, “Their colour is nicer than usual. I like the golden colour.”
“I guess the free range eggs really do make a difference,” Seokmin mused with a chuckle. When you offered him a surprised look, he hummed in confusion. “What?”
“You bought free range eggs? Didn’t you say they were too expensive last time?”
He shrugged. “I figured I might as well try to make some more ethical choices while shopping. Besides, you recommended them–”
Your eyes welled up a little. “You bought more expensive eggs because I recommended them?”
“And because I care for animals,” he added in a little too fast.
You laughed and nodded. “For the animals, right. Me too.”
“Do you ever rest from your work?” he wondered after a moment. “What do you do outside of it?”
“I… don’t know. I read. I like to clean.”
“But what about going to festivals? Swimming? Cycling? Dancing?” He grew more and more desperate as you rejected every hobby he offered. “No wonder you’re so tired all of the time! You’re a workaholic.”
You snorted. “Sunny did say I’m similar to Jihoon.”
“I didn’t think it was this bad.”
“I think he’s worse though.”
“Oh, definitely, but he doesn’t go to sleep in his neighbours’ beds,” Seokmin pointed out with a look of worry. As he watched you for an exactly uncomfortable amount of time, his eyes eventually lit up again. “I have an idea. What are you doing tomorrow evening?”
“Working–”
“I swear if I hear that word one more time, I will scream.”
You, once again, promptly shut up.
“Great,” he beamed and clapped his hands together, “I’ll text you to details later.”
“You’re not even going to tell me what we’re doing?”
You sighed in disappointment as he smiled brightly and shook his head ‘no’.
Tumblr media
A knock on your door notified you of his arrival. Despite being sure it wasn’t meant to be a date and knowing that Seokmin had seen you in far worse condition, you still took a deep breath and gave yourself a quick once-over at the mirror.
When you opened the door, he smiled at you brightly. “I see you’ve dressed up too.”
“I would hardly call this dressed up,” you told him rather sheepishly, suddenly even more aware of you appearance. “You look very dapper as well.”
“Yep, and do you want to know why?”
“Why?”
His smile widened so much you worried for his cheeks. “Because you and I are going to the theatre.”
“The theatre?” You paled at the mention and looked down at your outfit. “I feel like I’m underdressed then.”
“You look fine,” he laughed and grabbed your hand. “Let’s go or we’ll be late. And trust me,” he widened his eyes for dramatic effect, “you don’t want to be late.”
You gave in begrudgingly and locked the door as fast as you could while he practically bounced at your side in excitement.
“What are we going to watch then?” you finally remembered to ask when you entered the theatre less than 15 minutes later. “I swear, if you dragged me here to watch an opera–”
“It’s a musical, actually,” he admitted bashfully. “I love musicals and I don’t know much about other theatre performances so I thought– But if you don’t like musicals, that’s–”
“I don’t mind musicals,” you told him with a little laugh and pat on his shoulder. “But I have to admit, it has been ages since my last time at the theatre, and I haven’t seen a musical in a few years at least.”
“That’s fine. I’ll guide you through it.” And as if the last shy bone had left his body, he grabbed your hand and led you to your seats, all the while widely smiling at you and giving your hand periodical squeezes of encouragement.
His hand never left yours for the duration of the musical, not even for intermission, not even when he ordered cake from the theatre café to hold you over until after the show. His hand remained warm in yours, fingers squeezing a little tighter every once in a while, his thumb running over the back of your hand.
It was so warm, so comforting. Just his presence alone was enough to make you dizzy with the feeling of safety and happiness. His touch? You were floating on cloud 9 with zero regard for what was going on below – or on the stage, for that matter.
Frankly, you could barely remember to watch the musical because you were so busy marvelling at the feel of his hand in yours.
“That was so good,” he excitedly told you as the two of you returned to your apartment. “The music was phenomenal.”
“The actors were very good.” And that was the only contribution you could make to the conversation because you definitely hadn’t paid any attention to the plot and your knowledge of music was simply not there.
But thankfully, that seemed to be far more than enough. His eyes gleamed as he sat onto your sofa and gestured widely while speaking, “Right? The leading woman was just– Incredible, fantastic. Her range! I’m a little jealous, actually.”
You took the seat next to him. To your surprise, his hand found yours once again, wasting no time in interlocking your fingers. And just like that, paying attention to anything else became difficult.
Were you really developing a crush on him? Just like that? You refused. You were too busy to be pining after a man.
But when slid closer to your side and looked at you like you were the most wonderful person to ever exist, you suddenly didn’t care about the lack of time. Screw it. You’d make time if it meant you got to see his star-filled eyes again.
“... Sorry, what?” you coughed out when he paused and looked at you expectantly.
He laughed. “You’re so cute. I asked if you wanted to go see another musical with me someday.”
“I’d love to,” you blurted out without thinking.
Yeah. Screw deadlines.
“Okay, perfect!” His smile brightened up the entire room as he rested his head on your shoulder. “Because I heard they’re doing Excalibur next season and I desperately need a friend to go watch it with me. I saw the premise and heard a preview of one of the songs and they’re holding auditions next month and I am already obsessed–”
Your brain was barely functioning at all, and yet you could recall one single memory from the depths of it. A dream he had shared. “Then why don’t you audition?”
He sat up abruptly, looking at you as if you were insane. “I couldn’t possibly–”
“Why not?” you asked. “I heard you singing the other day. You’re really good. I think you could get any part pretty easily.”
His ears turned more red with every word you said. “You flatter me…”
“I’m serious, Seokmin!”
“I’m not that good. And I have zero acting experience, aside from a few courses I did in college. Why would they ever pick me?”
“Why wouldn’t they?” you countered and he scoffed.
“I can think of a few–”
“You never know if you don’t try,” you told him and raised your hand to brush a stray hair off his forehead. “I’m rooting for you.”
As your words faded into the night and your eyes met, you wondered if he could feel the sparks flying and bursting all around you as well. Did he also feel that overwhelming adoration for you?
He sighed after a while, a bashful smile on his face. “You must be tired. It’s been a long night. Go to sleep.”
“I really should,” you yawned as if on cue. You shared a laugh at the timing.
He squeezed your hand one last time. “Well, good night then. I expect I’ll find you at my apartment in the morning–”
“Or you could stay here and we don’t have to worry about that,” you blurted without thinking. Your face flashed hot right after.
Had there been any alcohol in that cake he bought for you? Why were you feeling so bold all of a sudden?
“I–” He seemed speechless.
“I don’t know why I said that,” you rushed out and avoided his eyes. “I think I’m just really tired and work has been stressful and maybe my brain is just broke–”
He placed his hand behind your neck and led your head to rest against his chest as he rubbed comforting circles on your back. You could hear his body rumble with laughter as he held you. “I’d love to stay over. Besides,” he pushed you away just enough to look you in the eyes again, “I think it’s only fair that I get to sleep over this once, because you sleep over at my place a lot.”
You frowned and pouted. “It’s not like I mean to–”
“A lot,” he repeated with wide eyes and a teasing smile before pressing a soft kiss to your forehead. “But it’s okay. I don’t mind.”
Tumblr media
When you recounted the half-embarrassing and yet half-lovestruck happenings of the previous night to Sunny on the way back from work, she stared at you in bafflement.
“You actually asked him to sleep over?” she gasped, hand over her heart as if she was a peasant woman of the 16th century hearing the most scandalous gossip. “You little vixen!”
“Nothing happened,” you insistently told her as the two of you stepped off the bus.
She huffed. “That’s honestly so boring. I mean, have you seen that man? What I wouldn’t give to–”
“I am once again reminding you that you already have a boyfriend.”
“You don’t know what we’re into in the bedroom,” she countered with a smirk.
You only now realised how much Jeonghan was rubbing off on her. She was becoming a second him, slowly but surely. Couple of the year.
“I’m taking away your friend privileges, Sunny,” you told her at that and rushed ahead to avoid hearing any more weirdly Jeonghan-like jokes from her.
She laughed at that before running after you. “Okay, okay, no more dirty jokes.”
“Thank god,” you sighed towards the sky.
“So, did any sleepwalking occur?” she then asked before humming in thought. “Well, I imagine if it had, I would’ve heard about it by now. It would’ve been quite a sight to see Seokmin running after an asleep you towards his apartment at 2 am.”
“I didn’t sleepwalk.”
And frankly, if you had, Seokmin must have done a very good job of getting you back to your own bed because you woke up exactly how and where you fell asleep – wrapped in his arms, head resting in the crook of his neck.
Sunny suddenly stopped in spot. Her eyes wide, her lips parted. She pointed an accusatory finger at you, “Wait, does that mean you two are dating now?”
You weren’t sure you had the answer. And you wouldn’t have time to find the answer for a while.
Tumblr media
“Good morning!” you heard Seokmin’s voice before you even opened your eyes.
Unlike the previous few times, disappointment filled you as realisation hit. You groaned and turned over to bury your face in his numerous pillows, hoping you could suffocate yourself out of a mildly infuriating nightmare.
Seokmin clicked his tongue. “Not quite the greeting I was expecting, especially considering I was greeted with a hug the last time we shared a bed.”
“Shut it.”
“Oh, you’re mean today.”
“Did I fall asleep mid-work again?” you sighed and slowly sat up to glare at nothing in particular. Seokmin went to great lengths to avoid whatever direction to directed your deadly look to. “God, I bet I didn’t even make it to the second graph– I’m not gonna have time to go to the office for work today.”
He stared at you curiously. “So, work from home? I mean, if you have the possibility.”
“Yeah, but then I’ll get distracted and then I still won’t end up doing anything,” you whined before falling back into the pillows. You wanted to cry just at the thought of that stupid report waiting on your idle laptop.
“Why are you so stressed about this report anyway? I don’t think you were ever this upset over any other reports.”
“If this project report goes through, and we pull off this project – which I still have to plan, oh my god, I am so far behind–”
Seokmin laughed at your frantic movements and moved over to place his hands on your shoulders and keep you still. “Hey, hey, don’t get distracted. If the project goes through…?”
You took a deep breath. “If the project goes well, I will get a promotion. Less hours, better pay.” You sighed. “Then maybe I’ll be able to get a dog like I’ve always wanted.”
“That sounds wonderful! We should celebrate with breakfast,” he suggested with a wiggle of his eyebrows.
But as tempting as it sounded, you simply didn’t have any time to chat. You had work to do. And so, you stood up, fixed your hair, gave Seokmin an affectionate yet half-hearted pat on the back and headed for the door.
You couldn’t wait to spend your day in complete lonely misery. At work you at least had friends to talk between sections. All you had in your apartment was Bertha and instant coffee.
And it was as if Seokmin knew it just from the way you spoke to him that morning.
When the clock struck twelve, you heard a timid knock on your door. Confused at the noise and a little disoriented from the five pages of words you had written, you stood up and went to the door.
Your heart grew three sizes when you saw him standing there, looking so awfully huggable in his large white hoodie and grey sweatpants, glasses on his nose accompanied by a kind smile. You were so surprised to find him there that you failed to consider why he came.
He had to nudge you with the plastic bag he was holding for you to even notice it.
“Sorry,” you stammered and stepped aside to let him in, “I’m just a little-”
“Stress? Overworked? Confused because you’ve been staring at a 15-inch screen for the past three hours?” he suggested and brought the bag to the kitchen. “That’s okay. Don’t even mind me.” He smiled as he nodded towards your laptop. “Go on. Work waits. The sooner you get to it, the sooner it’ll be done.”
Disoriented as you were, you didn’t dare argue and slowly walked back to your previous seat at the coffee table, all the while watching him cautiously.
As your fingers landed on the keyboard, he began lifting things out of the bag. You watched in awe as he stacked snacks and vegetables onto the counter.
Feeling your eyes on him, he lifted his head to glare at you. “Work.”
“Work,” you repeated on instinct and turned back to your laptop. He laughed a little at your robotic tone.
Some 20 minutes later, you felt a presence next to you. When you turned to face it, Seokmin was holding an fruit slice up at your lips.
“Eat,” he told you softly. You did as told.
“What are you doing?” you asked between confused laughter and chewing. Your eyes landed on the bowl of fruits he had placed in front of you.
He shrugged. “Taking care of you. You seemed so upset this morning… I thought it would be nice to spend my free day helping you.”
Your eyes widened. “It’s your free day? And you’re here? You should be resting!”
“Watching you is all the rest I need,” he winked playfully before lifting another fruit to your lips. “Now, eat up. This is lunch. I’ll make something better for dinner.”
“You don’t have to–”
He took this chance to shove a piece of apple into your mouth, effectively interrupting your speech. “I will, and I don’t care what you say.”
He glanced around the apartment as you began to eat the fruits on your own. “When was the last time you opened a window?”
You watched curiously as he stood up (with a groan because his bones simply weren’t as nimble as they used to be) and headed over to the windows, opening a few to air out the room. As he did so, he told you, “They say that good airflow and fresh air help the thought process. We air out the classrooms between every lesson so the next students won’t get too tired.”
“I don’t think I’ve opened any windows in here since I first moved in,” you confessed before turning back to your laptop. Before you could your train of thought again, a soft fabric was placed on your shoulders. You looked up to find him smiling at you brightly. “So you won’t get cold.”
“What about you then?”
He shrugged and winked. “I’ll just consider this my daily walk in the park.” He then looked around the apartment again, as if looking for something to do. You couldn’t help but find it endearing.
“Maybe… you could… make me a cup of tea?” you suggested.
He lit up at the idea. “Coming right up!”
Before heading to the kitchen, he leaned down to press a kiss to your forehead. It seemed almost like a reflex – like he didn’t even need to think about doing it.
Relishing in the leftover warmth of his lips and the feel of his hoodie on your skin, your work took a backseat for a while. Instead of thinking about your project of a lifetime, your brain was drowning in one singular question. You glanced towards the kitchen to watch him, a smile appearing on your face as you did.
“Seokmin?” you called out softly after a moment.
He hummed in response immediately, eyes lifting from the cup he was preparing so he could offer you an encouraging smile.
You took a deep breath. “What are we?”
He paused. “What do you mean?”
“You and I. What are we to each other?” you wondered, unable to look away from him. There was something you badly wanted to hear him say and yet feared at the same time. “What are you to me?”
The corners of his lips twitched. “I… I’ll be whatever you’d like me to be.”
“Whatever? A friend?”
“If that’s what you wish,” he breathed out, a little shakier than before.
“What about a lover?”
He smiled. “If you so wish.”
“Then… what do you want me to be?” you asked him quietly, a part of you praying your words would go missing in the incoming wind before they reached him.
“I just…” He bit his lip in contemplation, ears turning red, and avoided your eyes.
“What do you want me to be to you, Seokmin?” you repeated your question, a little bolder this time, hope sparking in your heart.
He looked up again, into your eyes. “Mine.” You let out a breath – of relief or fear, you weren’t sure – but he didn’t hesitate when he repeated, “I want you to be mine.”
You felt guilty for the words you’d utter next. “But we don’t have the time for that…”
“That’s okay,” he assured you with a kind smile. “We’ll take it slow.”
“Slow? How slow do we take it?”
“As slow as you need. I’m not leaving.”
Tumblr media
“I signed up for the auditions,” he told you over breakfast a few days later. “Jihoon’s helping me prepare.”
You were still neck-deep in your project, struggling to meet the deadlines and coordinate your team. This seemed to lead the asleep you to Seokmin’s apartment more often than not. It was almost like you woke up in his bed every morning now.
But even in your despair, you couldn’t help but be excited for Seokmin.
Your eyes lit up and a squeal came out as you grabbed his hand over the table. “Really? You did?!”
He used his free hand to rub the back of his neck bashfully. “Well, you said I should give it a try, right? Who knows,” he shrugged, trying his best to seem nonchalant or even fake a little bit of confidence, “maybe they’ll give me a part.”
“I’m sure they will,” you insisted, squeezing his hand. “Your voice is amazing and you’re so handsome – the ladies are going to swoon when they see you on the stage.”
He laughed. “Will you be one of those ladies?”
“I’ll be in the front row,” you solemnly promised. “At every show. You’ll get sick of seeing me.”
“I could never,” he assured you.
Tumblr media
Seokmin’s audition would take place two weeks later. You made sure the mark the day with a big red circle on your calendar – on all three of them, in fact. And now it was time.
Between your seemingly endless stream of project complications and Seokmin’s daytime job and audition preparations, you barely saw him. If it weren’t for your persistent sleepwalking problem, you wouldn’t have seen him at all. And so, the curse had became a blessing.
“You’ll do great,” you assured him minutes after waking up in his bed. You made sure to give him the warmest hug before letting him leave the room. “I believe in you. And so does Jihoon, apparently.”
Seokmin pouted. “Did he say that or are you lying to make me feel better?”
“We talked yesterday,” you told him, appalled that he’d even accuse you of such atrocities. “He said he has complete faith that you’ll do well.”
“I don’t believe you but–”
“Do you want to fight me? Already?” You raised a brow and he shook his head immediately. “Exactly. Just accept the compliment. And don’t forget to call me when you finish, okay?”
“Of course,” he promised.
He kept that promise. Just as he stepped out of the theatre, his shaky hands picked up the phone and chose your number.
You answered the call with prep in your voice. It had been a good day so far and you were expecting to hear his no-doubt joyous retellings of the audition.
What you weren’t expecting was: “Can you come get me? I think I might cry.”
“Why, why?” Despite your words, you didn’t hesitate to slam your laptop closed and grab your jacket. “Are you okay? Were they mean?”
“They weren’t mean,” he mumbled on the other side of the line, “but I don’t think I did well.”
“I’m sure you did wonderful,” you spoke while rushing down the street. Thankfully, the theatre was barely a five-minute walk from your office – half that at your current pace. “You’re just putting yourself down over nothing.”
Seokmin whined. “You’re seriously overestimating me.”
“Don’t be silly.”
“No, I’m serious. You overestimate me.”
As you crossed the street, you noticed a familiar figure dragging his feet along the pavement, head low and shoulders slumped. “Now why would I do that?”
“Because you like me a little more than you should,” he suggested while kicking a pebble. You could already hear his voice even without the phone. “I’m sure the directors think I’m a joke or something. God, I am so–”
“Don’t you dare say another bad word about yourself,” you scolded him with a gentle slap against the back of his head.
He stared at you in bewilderment – both from the fact that you might as well have appeared from thin air and the fact that you just did that.
But you were unrelenting in your affection for him. “Lee Seokmin, listen to me: you did absolutely great. You did your best. And even if you don’t get a part this time, they’ll value the fact that you now have experience with auditions. Take it in stride.”
Tears gathered in his eyes. Before long, he pulled you into his embrace, holding you impossibly tight. “You’re just saying that… Thank you.”
“That’s what I’m here for, silly,” you laughed and hugged him back just as tightly. “I think we should celebrate this occasion.”
“Even if I screwed up and don’t get the part?”
You scoffed. “Absolutely! A little cake can make everything better, no?”
He sighed. “I don’t think I can eat right now. I might throw up from the nerves.”
“Drink then?”
He contemplated and then straightened up. “I could go for some bubble tea…”
“There we go!” you cheered and gently pinched his cheeks, prompting a small giggle. “My treat because you did so well today and I’m so proud of you.”
This time it was you who grabbed his hand without any hesitation, more than happy to reassuringly squeeze it as you walked and talked.
“When will you get the answer?” you wondered.
He sucked in a breath. “In about a week, they said. Or maybe never–”
“Seokmin,” you scolded.
“In a week,” he corrected himself with some enthusiasm. “I’ll get answers in a week. And then I might actually cry.”
“And I’ll be there when you cry tears of joy, darling.”
“Tears of joy?” He raised a brow and smiled in disbelief. “You seriously put too much faith in me.”
You nudged his side. “As if you haven’t been equally supportive about my promotion.”
“Oh, right,” Seokmin gasped, “won’t your promotion interview be in a week too?”
You would’ve preferred he didn’t remind you. Then again, you guessed it was only fair.
“Will you come over to hold me when I cry too?”
“Tears of joy?” he teased and leaned over to kiss your temple. “I’ll be just a call away.”
Tumblr media
The week somehow passed at both the pace of a snail and the pace of Junhui on a sugar rush.
After finding you in his bed every single morning, Seokmin resorted to just sleeping over at your place, tightly cuddling you to keep you in place. He now had a whole drawer dedicated to his things in your bedroom.
The day started okay. You were awoken not by a loud alarm like you had expected, but by Seokmin gently singing you awake.
For a moment, you thought you had died and gone straight to heaven – maybe working so hard to save the environment had paid off after all, you thought. But no, it was just your reality.
What a beautiful reality. You couldn’t help but smile as you cuddled into his chest.
“If you keep clinging onto me like that, I won’t be able to make my famous waffles for a lucky breakfast,” he whispered but made no attempt to push you away.
The delicious breakfast was followed by an encouraging hug on the way out of the building, him to the school and you to the office. You wore a smile the entire time.
Up until you made it to your desk. Then the reality began sinking in.
This was the day that could make or break your career. The day you had worked so hard for that you neglected your private life for so many years.
As the clock on the wall slowly ticked forward, your hands began to shake. Your throat was dry. Your head was fuzzy, full of nothing but anxiety. If someone had asked you about anything, you would’ve only been able to stare at them with a mouth wide open.
20 minutes until your scheduled interview. You were starting to feel sick.
When another colleague came to give you a supportive pat on the back, you excused yourself and grabbed your phone to rush outside to the balcony. You sat on a chair and willed yourself to take deep breaths as you tapped on his number.
You wanted to slap yourself when you realised that you hadn’t even bothered to check if he was on break yet.
But he answered on the first ring. “Hey, what’s up? Did you have the interview alread–”
“Seokmin, I can’t do this,” you whimpered into the microphone. “I can’t do this. They’re gonna realise I’m an idiot and they’ll fire me and–”
“Woah, woah, what happened to your positive can-do attitude?” he wondered. “You’ll be fine.”
“No–”
“(Y/n),” he said your voice so firmly that your breath got caught in your throat. “(Y/n), you will be fine. You’ve worked there for so many years, you’ve achieved so many things. If they wanted to fire you, they would’ve done that by now.”
You took a shaky breath. “What if it’s an elaborate prank?”
“Why would– Baby, listen to me. You’ve worked hard. You put everything you had into that project – I was there, I saw it. You and your ideas are invaluable to your company. They’re going to ask you a few questions as a formality and they’re going to give that promotion and then you and I are going to go to a celebratory dinner and it’ll all be over.”
“And I can get a dog?” you whispered, a small smile tugging at your lips.
“You can get two dogs if you want, baby,” he laughed. “You deserve it. Don’t underestimate yourself. I believe in you and I’m sure your co-workers do as well.”
“How do you always know the right words to say?”
He laughed once again. “Baby, I’m a teacher. I’m literally trained to comfort people. I’m just glad I’m able to comfort you as well.”
“Thank you.”
“No need,” he responded, “just go and ace that interview. Okay?”
“And then you’ll come and wipe my happy tears?”
“You already know the answer to that question. But I expect the same treatment when I get my audition results.”
“Will do.”
“Go and get them, tiger.”
You weren’t sure what it was, but something about the conversation seemed to have lifted the weight off your shoulders. When you walked back to the office, the upcoming interview no longer felt as taunting.
As the clock hit 2 pm, you squared your shoulders, took a deep breath and headed to your manager’s office.
When the day ended, you found Seokmin standing in front of the office building, a blinding smile on his face.
“Well?” he asked expectantly, though the look in his eyes said that he had every faith that you would only give him good news. You were glad to prove him right.
Your coy smile was replaced with joyous laughter as you ran to hug him and called out, “I got the job!”
“You got it? You got it!” he cheered with you, jumping up and down with you in his arms, not far from spinning you around in the air. “I knew you would! What did I tell you? Silly you,” he let you out of his hold to place his hands on your cheeks and pull your face closer to his own, “you thought you wouldn’t get the promotion. Look at you now. I’m so proud of you.”
You breathed out in relief. The smile seemed to never stop tugging on your cheeks. “I’m so relieved I could cry.”
“Then who will dry my happy tears?” he teased with a bright smile.
You tilted your head in confusion. “Wait–”
“I got the part,” he whispered, his smile only growing wider, eyes sparkling. “I’m going to become a musical actor, officially.”
“Oh my god!” you practically squealed and now it was your turn to hug him and jump. He was glad to join you, laughing in glee. “I knew you could do it! I knew it!”
As joy got the best of you – and who could blame you: this was the happiest day of your life so far –, you grabbed his face and pulled him closer to you to press your lips against his own. He melted into the gesture, arms wrapping around you tighter as if to will the moment to last forever.
When you pulled back, just enough so that your noses touched, he laughed in disbelief. “I thought we were supposed to take it slow?”
“Screw taking it slow,” you whispered and kissed him again. “Might as well make it a triple celebration.”
“I like the sound of that.”

While practically leaning out of their open window to watch you and Seokmin kiss under the streetlights on your way home, Jeonghan and Sunny argued.
“I told you they would get together,” Sunny declared, her eyebrows raised as if to dare her boyfriend to prove her wrong.
Jeonghan scoffed. “Please. They’re just kissing. It could be casual.”
“Just say you don’t want to owe me 20 bucks.”
“I don’t owe you 20 bucks! We have no confirmation!”
“Jeonghan, listen here–”
“No, no, you listen–”
“Both of you listen here!” Chan bellowed from the window above them. “If you don’t stop arguing right now, I will report you both to Jihoon’s parents! Some of us are trying to sleep!” Silence followed. “And pay her the 20 bucks, Jeonghan. They’re clearly together.”
Jeonghan grumbled and glared upwards before fishing a 20 out of his pocket and handing it to his smiling girlfriend.

It's been a few days and you're finally settled in at home in your house that you never sold. Your mom has been staying with you, nursing you while you deal with your heartbreak. It's a heartbreak of her own too - even though she only met Chan twice, she loved him. Truly adored him. They called every week and spoke almost as much as you did.
You had only exchanged one message with Chan.
- "I love you, y/n."
- "I'll always love you, Christopher."
- "Come home to me?"
You could picture his pleading eyes...his gentle voice that he always used for you.
You didn't reply.
Now sitting on the couch, your phone forgotten in your room, you cried on your mom's shoulder. There was a knock on the door and your best friend came in with packets of God knows what and a whole lot of love. You had a mutually tearful and bittersweet reunion and then you switched to crying on her shoulder, recounting everything. She held you and soothed you and your mom looked upon her gratefully. They had always been close too. Eventually, you stopped crying and your friend accompanied you to the bathroom where you washed your face and tried to freshen up.
"Hey, I brought your favourite snacks and drinks. That hill we always used to go to as teens...it's still our spot, huh? Let's go. It'll be fun! You need some fresh air, babe."
You agreed reluctantly and kissed your mom goodbye. Getting into the car, your friend put on all your favourite music, which cheered you up just a little. You recounted all the stories from your years together as your drove until you were genuinely laughing. You felt lighter already, and you were grateful for your friend next to you. God, how you missed her. You went on to have what you didn't realise at the time was one of the most healing, memorable times with your best friend whom you adored.
-
When you came back home, there were three things you didn't expect. Your best friend about to throw her shoe; your mom looking guilty but happy; and Chan. In your house. In South Africa. And not in South Korea. But here. In South Africa. Where you live.
If you weren't frozen in place, you would have turned around and walked out - not because you were upset at seeing him, but just because you were so shocked, you didn't know what to do. But instead, that shock kept you rooted in place, staring at him. It's only when your mom shouted your best friend's name, followed by a "NO, DON'T!!" did you realise what was happening. You unfrozen just in time to see your best friend's shoe sail past Chan, who dodged it just in time. She stepped forward ready to do...something, and you held her back.
"Y/b/f/n, it's okay. It's not his fault. It's okay."
You stepped in front of her and then walked slowly towards Chan, as if not believing he's actually there.
"I'm so sorry...I can explain..." says Chan, looking sheepily between you and your best friend.
"You better," she replied. "But I don't want to hear it. Tell y/n."
She turned towards your mother and put her arm around her shoulders, guiding her out of the room doing a subtle, awkward hop without her right shoe. It was now just you and Chan.
"What are you...how are you here? How did you even-...I never told you-" you start.
"Shhh, shhh," Chan cooes, stepping towards you and cradling your head. You don't stop him. "I called your mom...told her I'm booking a ticket to see you and I'm not taking no for an answer. We spoke for a while and then she gave me this address. I had to see you, y/n."
"Why?" you ask, tears pricking the back of your eyes.
"Because I can't live without you. Because I'd rather travel 17 hours to see you be upset with me than live another second without you. I don't care what you say, y/n...whether you believe you "deserve me" or not...I'm here because I love you. I'm in love with you. And yeah, shit hasn't been great between us lately, and we're both at fault for that - but I want to fix it, and I know you do too. You're pushing me away because you think you don't deserve me for whatever reason, but it's not gonna work. I see right through you. I know you love me, whether you want to or not."
"But I don't deserve you, Chris," the tears falling down your cheek as you step back to look at him. "I said some horrible things. You're so good to me...so so good to me. And I was a total bitch. I took my anger and frustration and exhaustion out on you and...and "I'm sorry" will never be enough. You deserve to be treated completely opposite to how I treated you...it wasn't fair on you. It'll never be okay."
"So you'd treat me like that again?" he asks.
"What? No! Never again! I'll never make that mistake again," you say earnestly.
"Exactly my point. You know you made a mistake and you don't plan on repeating it. And so did I. Fuck, y/n. I wasn't any better myself. We were both toxic in that moment...but we can be better. Together. I'm willing to try if you are...and there's no one else I'd rather try with. This is our first big fight...and hopefully our last if we can help it. In a way, it's good, because now we know what boundaries we need and where we went wrong. We can heal together. That's what relationships are for, right? We might make mistakes but as long as they're not detrimental to us and we can learn and grow together, then we should. You feel like a monster rn...I know because so do I. But...but we don't have to stay monsters. We can heal. Together. If you'll have me..."
He steps towards you, as if in invitation, and you can't help it any longer. Chan's words shift something in you. You knew you could never live without him either, no matter how hard you'd try. You know that you never wanted to leave him in the first place. And you know that, if he's willing to give you a chance after all that, you're willing to make it up to him - to treat him better than you ever had before and to become someone who does deserve him, who is worthy of him, because you refuse to see him with anyone that isn't you. You refuse to let this beautiful, perfect man go. You crash into him and hold him against you, not planning to let go. This is where you belong. Whether on one continent or another, you belong with Chan. And he belongs with you. He lifts you up and holds you against him, your legs wrapped against his waist and your head on his shoulder, tears soaking his shirt. You feel his own tears fall onto you, and the two of you stay holding each other.
"I'm sorry for snapping at you," you say softly. "And for raising my voice at you like that...I promise to never do it again. Not if it's in anger. I'll speak to you with respect, no matter what. Because I respect you, Chan. And I'm sorry for not acting like it before."
He smiles against you. "I'm sorry for raising my voice at you too, y/n. And for swearing at you. I promise to never shout at you and swear at you in anger ever again, no matter how mad I get. Okay, sweetheart? I'm sorry."
You squeeze him for a second. "I forgive you. I'm sorry too. So so sorry, Chris."
"I forgive you, baby."
You chuckle then. "Boundaries, right?"
He laughs into your shoulder. "See? We're doing a good job already."
From the other side of the door, you hear a pair of sniffs. Rolling your eyes as Chan laughs and puts you down, you call out, "You can come in now!"
Your mom and best friend stumble in, not bothering to hide their tears.
"So much for privacy huh?" you giggle.
"We weren't eavesdropping at first, but..." your best friend starts.
"-it's not our fault you two speak so loud!" your mother finishes. "Come here, my son!" she calls out to Chan before swallowing him in her embrace.
Your best friend pulls you into an embrace of her own and then wipes your cheeks as you do the same for her. She sighs. "Guess I have to apologise now." You can't help but bark out a laugh.
She turns to Chan. "Chan...I'm sorry for throwing my shoe at you. I was just really mad that you hurt my best friend. I'm also sorry it missed...I think it would have made a funny story if you did get hit by it- Ow!" she yelps as you elbow her playfully. She sighs again. "No but really, I am sorry. I threw it without even thinking about how you travelled all the way here just for her...I just saw you and got mad. I'm sorry. I hope we can start off on a better note from now?"
Chan can't help but laugh before he pulls your best friend into a hug. "It's okay. I'm glad my girl has someone like you looking out for her, throwing shoes and all. And I deserved it, to be honest. I'm also sorry it missed."
"Chan!" you shout. "I mean...Chan!" you whisper-shout. "Don't say that."
He laughs at your poor yet playful attempt to conform to the new boundary, and walks to pick up your friend's shoe for her. "Here. Allow me."
He slips it onto her foot and she looks at you, fighting a grin. "Maybe he is a keeper..."
You all laugh, and your mother holds Chan once more, making your heart swell at your little family.
-
That evening, you all dined together and then hugged your mom and your best friend goodbye. You turned to look at Chan then...really look at him. You held his waist as you admired his strong nose ridge, his full lips and his tired eyes, the puffiness of it from all the crying you both did. But standing here in your kitchen, in your house here in your home country, he looked as handsome as ever. Had he gotten even more handsome? You couldn't tell. Chan's ears were turning red now.
"What?"
"Nothing," you giggled. "May I kiss you?"
It was Chan's turn to giggle.
"You may, my lady."
You pressed your lips against his, and he returned the favour. You savoured the feeling of his soft, plump, lips moving smoothly against yours. You couldn't help it. You let out a soft moan, making Chan smile against you.
"God, I missed this," he whispers. "I missed you. So much. I missed making you moan like this."
"Mhm? Like what, Chan?"
"Like this, baby."
He kissed you again, more deliberately this time. His lips moved in time with yours, and he sucked your bottom lip for a second, asking for entry. You submitted. He slipped the tip of his tongue in your mouth, stealing a quick taste. At the feel of your tongue against his, he pulled you stark against him, and then manoeuvred his tongue in deeper, fully tasting you now. His tongue moved softly, deftly, agonisingly against yours. He twisted it around your own, and you followed him before he moved to suck on your lip, biting it softly, making you moan that sweet moan that he loves so much. Reluctantly, he broke the kiss.
"Mmmm, like that," he said, his voice softer and thicker now.
You gazed at him for a long second and the ran your hands through his messy curls, down his face to his neck. You leaned against him as you tip toed to press soft kisses to his neck, letting them become progressively sloppier as you went down. You fumbled with the edge of his shirt, and he pulled it off within seconds. You continued kissing and sucking and licking a trail until you were on your knees before him. Your fingers went to the drawstrings of his sweatpants and undid them, but before you pulled his pants down, you looked up at him.
"Can I make it up to you, baby? Or at least start? Promise I'll make you feel good. Promise I'll show you how sorry I am..."
"Fuck," he breathed out. He gathered your hair in a messy pony tail and then said, "Yes, princess."
You pulled his sweats and his boxers down then and watched as his painfully hard cock sprung free. You kitten licked his pre cum once as he threw his head back, shutting his eyes. You kissed his red, swollen tip then and looked at him, his eyes still squeezed shut. Kissing down his long, thick length, you gently grabbed his balls and began massaging them.
"Y/n, please," Chan moaned.
You licked from the bottom of his cock to the tip, where more pre cum pooled. "I know, Channie, I know." You took him as far as you could into your throat then and stayed there for a few seconds, gagging. Chris moaned and you started moving then, bobbing your head up and down and pumping your fist over what your mouth couldn't reach. You found your rhythm and started moving in a way that made Chan grip the counter behind him, moaning your name.
"That's it, baby girl. Just like that. Ahhh- fuck...I'm...I'm not gonna last long-"
You pulled back and continued pumping his length with your hands. "You wanna cum in my mouth, Channie?" You licked his tip again, tongue tracing his slit. He shivered and cursed.
"Fuck, please y/n. Please, baby."
You buried his cock in your throat again then, sucking him and coating the throbbing cock in your spit. Chan couldn't hold it back anymore. He pushed your head gently as far against his pelvis as you could manage and came, spilling himself down your throat. You swallowed every bit of it and licked your lips, breathing in his delicious musk. Chan slumped against the counter after helping you to your feet.
"That was...that was...shit. It was amazing, baby. You're amazing," he panted out.
You leaned in to kiss him, and he groaned as he tasted himself on your tongue. Once he recovered, he stepped towards you and pulled off your own top, pleased to see no bra. He tugged on one nipple with his teeth before licking it and blowing on it. You moaned his name, and begged him to kiss you. He obliged as his hands moved to your waistband, taking your own pants off. Leaving you in only your panties, Chan picked you up and lifted you over his shoulder, causing you to squeal. He slapped your ass, grinning, and then walked into your bedroom, dropping you excitedly on the bed, hard again at the thought of all he's going to do to you tonight.
