To follow up on my Hosanna poll, I think before things go any further, it'd be good to actually explain and define it. I was initially going to wait until the end of the poll, but it seems that google is giving people a lot of bad and/or conflicting answers and I'd rather people walk away with the correct information.

So! Hosanna is an anglicized version of the Hebrew words "hosha na" [הושע נא or as a contraction הושענא]. Hosha na is a little enigmatic and hard to translate, but the simplest translation is probably "save us, please." It's traditionally used as an exclamation to G-d to rescue us, but it also has shades of being a triumphant shout (the implication being confidence that G-d will save us.)

Jews say "hoshanot" (the plural of hosha na) as part of our traditional Sukkot liturgy, and is something we do still today.

For us, the multi-faceted meaning of the root word allows us to have multiple layers of meaning. During Sukkot, we start praying for rain in its proper season and amounts, and we shake the lulav and etrog as part of these processions and liturgy. On Hoshana Rabba [the "great hoshana"], the last day of Sukkot, we process around the bimah (front lectern) seven times as a completion of our season of repentance and our starting of the new year with abundant blessings.

Historical meaning

Since those welcoming Jesus were Jewish, as of course Jesus himself was, some would interpret the cry of "Hosanna" on the entry of Jesus in its proper meaning, as a cry by the people for salvation and rescue.

Christian reinterpretation

"Hosanna" many interpret as a shout of praise or adoration made in recognition of the messiahship of Jesus on his entry into Jerusalem

It is applied in numerous verses of the New Testament, including "Hosanna! blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lᴏʀᴅ!" (Matthew 21:9,15; Mark 11:9–10; John 12:13), which forms part of the Sanctus prayer; "hosanna in the highest" (Mark 11.10); and "hosanna to the Son of David" (Matt 21:9). These quotations, however, are of words in the Jewish Psalm 118. Although not used in the book of Luke, the testimony of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem is recorded in Luke 19.

In church music

The "Hosanna Anthem", based on the phrase Hosanna, is a traditional Moravian Church anthem written by Bishop Christian Gregor of Herrnhut sung on Palm Sunday and the first Sunday of Advent. It is antiphonal, i.e. a call-and-response song; traditionally, it is sung between the children and adult congregation, though it is not unheard of for it to be done in other ways, such as between choir and congregation, or played between trombone choirs.

The bottom line:

Jews and Christians have different connections, associations, and meanings attached to this word as expressions of our different theologies and texts. The word is derived from a Hebrew word and was created by Jews and is still used by us today. (Like literally today - we are currently in the middle of the Sukkot festival.) Christians changed the meaning to fit within their own context, and pronunciation of the word evolved with linguistic drift over time. In the same way that there's not a reason to pitch a fit over saying Jesus rather than Yeshua, there's no compelling reason to change hosanna back to hosha na; if anything, the distinction helps make it clear that it's effectively a different word and concept from ours.

On the other hand, I do think Christians ought to know the original meaning of the word if they're going to use it. To only ever know their version when it was derived from ours is yet another small way of playing into supercessionism by erasing and replacing the Jewish context of things that were originated in Judaism that Christians have embedded in Christianity. While the Christians of today cannot unwind the supercessionism of Christian history, they *can* choose to understand their present Christianity in ways that do not play into supercessionism and that respect the Jewish community of today.

I hope this was helpful and gives folks a new perspective on an obscure Hebrew word!

Coming out of my cave to post art on here again

I'm trying ( heavy emphasis on trying 😭 ) to make designs for every arc 1 WoF character, and since mudwings are the easiest tribe for me to draw I started with clay and his siblings

Their shapes and stuff make sense in my head and have reasonings but I can't put them into words rghHHgdgGGRRRghhgfh

CHARACTERS; CLAY [ TOP LEFT ] , SORA [BOTTOM LEFT ] , UMBER [ TOP RIGHT ] , REED [ BOTTOM RIGHT ]

For Clay I wanted to make him simple, going along with him not thinking that he's anything special and not fit for the prophecy. He's still brighter than his sibs though, and has the brightest colored scales before his underbelly. (Do those have a name?? )

For Sora I wanted her kinda deer-like, with softer/less bold edges than the others. She has a scar in the same place Crane's death wound was.

For Umber I just stuck pretty closely to the canon design, adding some splotches and giving him a different shape than the others.

Finally, for Reed I just made him clay but duller, and more red. He nearly looks just like clay shape-wise, but is more inward. (I have no idea how to describe this 😭)

I had the most fun with these guys can u tell

For Marsh I made him more sharp and edgy than the others to go with his anxious personality. His colors are very similar to Clay's, but he has splotches and light colored horns. (I love Marsh, he's underappreciated)

For Pheasant I wanted to base her off of a pheasant. Her markings are similar to those of a ring-necked pheasant, with her reds being the same as Umber's. She originally had green-ish yellow on her to go with her eyes (and also because pheasants have green on them) but I couldn't get it to work. (crying spongebob image) Her shape is more 'elegant' than her sibs. I think her design is my favorite out of all of these.

For Crane I based her lightly off of a crane. (🤯🤯🤯) She shares colors with sora and umber. (Sora because obviously, Umber because I needed his reds 😁) since really all we know about her is that she was protective of her sibs (as literally all of them are) I made her fierce and determined looking. Version without her death wound below

I got more confident in not following the canon designs super closely the more designs I made and it shows 😭😭 I never realized how much variety you can make in mudwings despite them being the 'boring' ones

id honestly consider the cut arena scug 4 an oc at this point. it deviates so much from the One sprite we get. oops

the Not So Line Lineup

survivor! scar on snout is based on one of the cut arena sprites for player 1, it has a little.. scar? notch? line? there. survivor passage symbol on head as well and freckles :) some brown to match monk sorta. spikey fur!

^ what the scar is based on

overall more rounded than survivor, to reference the monk passage symbol which is also on their head. a little dewlap to reference gourmand - i think gourmand and survivor and monk are related. lighter yellows to reference survivor!

third sibling!!! the little orange line on their head is actually karma 7 (i realized survivor is karma 5 and monk is karma 6- so why not go with the theme?) and a sorta partial saint symbol on their head, missing the middle line. yellow/red accenting color to reference monk and survivor sorta. blu :)

sorta pinker. based on one of my old draft designs, just made a little better. green accent color to match sig. a little fluffy and sharp. ear tufts cause theyre fun and a tufted tail. hunter passage symbol is also on tail teehee. sig's head symbol is also on hunter. the scar is also green

nightcat is some sorta weird echo thing. to me. little wings for the fun of it. i dont have much on this design honestly other than i used dodge A Lot. the accenting pink on the dark purple parts was originally an accident but like? it vibes.

wanderer! cause actually why not. the white symbol on their chest is a half of sig's symbol, i'd like to think sig helped suns make wanderer. if you put its head symbol together with nightcat it makes the scholar :) blue accenting color is close to the negative/opposite colors of nightcat.

i dont have many notes for this biggol guy. sorta looks alike survivor and monk i suppose. feathers! theyre sorta rose colored i think. idk. it looks nice. simple patterns cause gourmand is a symbol guy

artiiii. i wanted to put an accent color on arti but it was so Hard because i was Stubborn and Needed That Damn Cyan on it. markings based on a siamese cat except for the ones on the arm and legs, theyre sort of tabby based?

green pup is tabby based in markings, pink sorta looks like flower petals. blue pup is siamese cat based in markings and the yellow? idk it looked nice

RIVULETTT. i love rivulet. i made the bright sunset gradient contrast by adding some darker but still vibrant blues and purples to the design, as well as a cream. there's also actual gills udner the display frills (which also got a color update to match instead of being an offbrand bi flag). also webbed fingers!!!

vibrant fuckin purple because it looks nice actually. made it have some cream-pink-purple thing as underbelly instead to make it look nicer. head markings are based directly on suns :) biggol Orb Eyes to Stare In Your Soul. accenting colors sorta match rivulet? idk? they just look nice without contrasting too much. also whiskers. and tall. and thin with long ass grabbers

i kept getting "portal colors" and "aroace flag" and like YEA YALL ARE RIGHT ACTUALLY i just wanted to fit blue and orange on it though lmao. anyway pretty simple body markings to make up for the Six Fucking Accent Colors. three forehead dots are yellow while there's an x on its back and head thats blue... to imitate the rot :) why? figure it out yourself

inv!! not much has changed since honestly i just saturated the colors a bit more i think. idk. i like the yellow on inv though so i make it more prominent sorta? just a guy. still an iterator that turned itself into a slugcat. to me.

another cut arena slug! this time this one. i tried to keep it more in line rather than go a bit silly ehe. i still like how this came out- i think the accent color is nice. it looks like bingus to me actually. bingus slugcat

Decided to revamp my Sinner Slugcats so they're not all just multicolored scugs.

I did look into some of the symbols and stuff of the game, so the writing is more or less "Outlaw, Number", since I wasn't sure how to make a "Sinner" symbol in the RW language, so I just used Outlaw since it has the lowest Karma symbol anyway.

Intricacies under the readmore

Yi Sang: Inspired by daszombes' Deadlands video, he is a "Flying Slugcat", like a sugar glider or flying squirrel. He has no true flight, but it works

Faust: Some sort of Echo or associated. Has her own citizen ID drone of an unknown Iterator, and it also acts as a little scanner (inspired by @astragatwo's take on scug Faust). She still maintains Gourmand's crafting ability, but it might be more taxing with her smaller frame.

Don Quixote: A special breed of Slugcat meant to go fast, her legs are quite powerful, letting her make longer pounces or generally run faster than most other scugs. Obviously, her lack of weight makes her weak to poleplants/worm grass, but y'know.

Ryoshu: Similar to Spearmaster, but by way of King Vulture, she only has one spear directly connected to her that she can recall (it does not act like SM's feeding needles). Also, a subtle detail is that her ears are absolutely massive compared to most scugs, giving her enhanced hearing.

Meursault: (Perhaps a Purposed Being?) He has face armor not unlike a lizard, in fact he's about the same size as a blue lizard. His bite is quite powerful, and he's certainly the best to have in front going through pipes, as his face will deflect spears (should the scavs be aggro or something). He might also have better climbing ability, able to get on walls and such, but he's very heavy so idk

Hong Lu: Bioluminescent, like a fun mix of lantern mice and cyan lizards, he can "turn it off" as it were. His tail also can be used as a small flashbang, but obviously only once (per cycle). Of course, this helps with coalescipedes, but makes him a damn beacon otherwise.

Heathcliff: Still Artificer based, where explosions and such just don't really bother him and he's able to maul enemies (though obviously his bite is weaker than Meur's). He also has a pearl hanging around his neck of unknown use, but clearly given to him by someone special.

Ishmael: Rivulet, but even closer to salamander where she actually has fins, her ability to swim is obviously a cut above everyone else's. She's probably had a bad run in or two with Leviathans. Her cloak is probably a gift from whatever version of Queequeg this world has

Rodion: Also inspired by astragatwo, she's mega fluffy making her very warm. Though, this does make it annoying for her to swim if the area is cold because she'll freeze faster. I still like the idea she can carry more scugs on her, but idk. (She does look more like a fox, but such is the price of floof)

Sinclair: Saint-lite, and still pup-sized (he's an adult, just tiny like Don) so long as he's not at lowest Karma, he has limited ability to incapacitate enemies (not quite enough to ascend) and fly a bit with said ability. I basically wanted to reference his Mark of Cain somehow.

Outis: Ironically, just your average Slugcat. She probably has stuff going on with reputation or maybe she allows Echos to appear on first visit, or convinces Pebbles to not murder everyone immediately

Gregor: Definitely a creature that has been fucked with too much. Originally just a Slugcat that had been spliced with a centiwing (sorta like how the Miros Vultures are hybrids), he seemed to have got infected by the Rot, most likely when whatever Iterator structure he was hanging out around pulled a Pebbles

WELCOME TO MY TWISTED WORLD. i really tried to keep tugger as cis guys i really did. but the thrall of a visually transgender tugger was too much to ignore. i already explained a lot of his design choices in my first posted drawing of it but like... blauhh... thigh garter, heart, golden whiskers/lashes. they are there. i also made his makeup a wee more theatrical w/ white on the chin to visually separate him from partridges tugger

i also decided to base his fur more on his obc design. like. terrence mann tugger. platinum blond spotted mane and head fur and such. i think it looks really good

im trying to hit the sweet spot between the goofy/serious/whiny/promiscuous portrayals of the him..... the man contains multitudes, you see. hed also be like 24 in human years and it goes without saying that hes one of deuts sons

Darkstripe

Gay (& has no bitches); he/him

Title meaning: -stripe = a cat with distinctive stripe markings; a cat who is easily antagonized and angered; a cat with a “spiky” personality; based on the fact that a stripe is often jagged and sharp

Warrior of Thunder Order -> Warrior of Tiger Order; was a Thunder Warrior but after trying to kill Sorrel he was banished and joined Star Tigerclaw in Tiger Order.

Character Summary:

Due to being apprenticed to Tigerclaw, Darkstripe was taught to be VERY xenophobic. He became extremely insecure about the fact that he had kittypet blood, and he never forgave his mother for it, despite the fact that outsider sires are allowed within the Orders.

He constantly wanted to prove himself to Tigerclaw and wanted to make him notice and respect him so he tried to be exactly like Tiger (he failed at this, it just made him look dumb)

Dark became even more hateful towards his mother once he saw that her second son, Gray, was obviously sired by the same tom as Dark, both brothers have strong traits from Teddy. Dark fully believed his mother had a relationship with Teddy and he was pissed about it. He was right tho.. but Willow broke it off with Teddy soon after having Gray.

Dark was Shriketail's mentor and trained him the exact same way Tigerclaw trained him. He taught Shrike to be extremely insecure about his outsider origins and to be a xenophobic asshole.

Dark is something of a parallel character to Shrike, he is an example of what Shrike could have been if he hadn't turned his life around and changed as a person. Dark just fell farther into his beliefs and became truly evil.

Dark ended up siring Brindleface's litter to carry on his bloodline and hopefully make some mini Darkstripes. He was a shit dad though and didn't interact with his kits much besides pressuring them to live up to his expectations.

Dark then proceeded to help Tigerclaw kill Brindleface for the dogs. Ash and Fern already hated Dark and after finding this out when Dark was banished, Ash began his "I am filled with hate and need vengeance" arc.

just like in canon Dark tried to kill his sister Sorrel because she saw him help Tiger see his kits. He was then banished and he joined Tiger Order.

Ashfall killed him in the great battle out of vengeance and hatred, a hate that never went away.

Aegon originally leaned towards the pudgier side in terms of his physicality.

Although the new lengths he reached now, made the older Aegon look scrawny, as though someone had pumped and inflated him steadily.

His arms bulky and plush now, the meaty flesh filled with copious bulging adipose was enjoyable enough to grip and squeeze.

Often your red, imprinted fingerprints left evident marks against his pale skin, from your tight grip: although Aegon did not mind, he could hardly feel you squeeze with all your bite.

You found them sturdy to hold, especially his broader, softer shoulders.

Even more so, Aegon's hands themselves, his fat had evenly spread across his entire body, even stored in his fingers, becoming pudgier, his grip although rough, was soft with the excess meat on his bones.

His hands, wrists and forearms/elbows scored with creases along certain joints of his body from the ample chub pooling across his limbs.

Nonetheless, you were enthusiastic about Aegon's physicality changes. Worshipping his growth, Aegon was scarcely insecure with his body, for your affections spoke for themselves loudly.

Gojo Satoru x Fem!Reader: Based on the song "Enchanted" by Taylor Swift.

Part 1: You Belong With Me

Warnings: Use of cuss words.

Gojo stood there as his girlfriend swore at him, he couldn't complain though. After all he's the one who said they should break up but it didn't matter now because he was going to make things right.

Suguru was the first to receive this good news. He was happy for his friend but warned him not to do anything stupid and blow up things with you.

On the other hand you made it your mission to avoid 'Gojo Satoru' . You started spending more time with the first years and it bothered Gojo.

"Don't you think Y/n is spending more time with the first years than with us?", Gojo pouted thinking it's been so long since you two had a proper conversation.

" It's your fault Satoru", Shoko gave him glare.

"You even stopped me from telling her about your breakup. What are you planning?", both Shoko and Geto raised their eyebrows at him.

" You'll see", Gojo just gave them a smug smile.

It was Shoko's idea to throw a party in her dorm. Yaga-sensei was out of town that day and she wasn't going to miss this chance.

Your classmates and the first years were invited to it. Honestly you weren't in the mood to attend a party but to your misfortune Shoko dragged you into it.

You noticed a certain white-haired guy was missing from the party. "He must be with his girlfriend", you thought sadly.

You were just forcing laughs and faking smiles at this moment but it all vanished when he arrived. He wore a simple black t-shirt and black joggers but still managed to steal your breath away.

" Yo", he waved hand at your direction as he talked towards you.

"Soooo how have you been?", Gojo tried to pass the sentence as a confident one but the underlying awkwardness was visible.

You snorted, " We see each other every day what type of question is that?"

"No but you have been avoiding me and I don't know what you've been upto these days", Your expressions changed and Gojo wished he hadn't been so straightforward with his words.

" Well- I-", you started but Gojo blurt out something.

"I broke up", as soon as he said that-

"SHIT SHIT THIS ISN'T GOING ACCORDING TO PLAN AT ALL. MISSION ABORT", Gojo panicked internally.

That took you by surprise, " Oh I'm sorry to hear that. You okay?", genuine concern flashed in your eyes.

"O-oh yeah- yeah. We didn't quite work out", Gojo fumbled looking in your eyes. He wondered all the time his six eyes missed this glimpse of love in your eyes while talking to him. He is so stupid.

When you went back into your room the clock marked 2am and you couldn't help but think about Gojo.

You walked back and forth in your room, a feeling of guilt took over you for feeling happy at the news. You shouldn't be enjoying this, Gojo had just ended his relationship, but to your misery you couldn't help but feel a little giddy inside.

Few weeks passed by, you and Haibara were planning to throw Nanami a secret birthday party. When you pitched the idea to Shoko, she has other plans in mind.

"We should have this party at a club!", she said with utter excitement.

" Nope. We definitely are not going to do that", you shaked your head firmly.

"Oh we definitely will."

The next thing you know was that you and others were dragged by Shoko to a club.

You didn't even want to ask where did she get all those fake ids.

Nanami definitely hated to be at this party but he didn't say anything as he saw the others were enjoying themselves.

"Sorry you have to spend your birthday at a place you hate", you took a seat beside Nanami.

"It's not like I had any other choice", he sighed while you laughed at his expression, unaware that those six-eyes captured your every movement.

Gojo wondered was this how you felt when he was in relationship? Hell you must have felt a lot worse.

" You should take your chance before someone else swoops her away", Suguru added more fuel to the fire.

"Oh Nanami would never try anything with her", it sounded like Gojo wanted to convince himself more than Suguru.

" You sure about that?", The raven haired pointed at his classmate and his junior.

Gojo turned his head to see, NANAMI IS LAUGHING?

That's a sight one can rarely see.

But isn't he the one who should be laughing at your jokes? Or making you smile like that?

Suguru saw a chance and slipped Gojo a shot.

Almost automatically he drank it. One shot. Two shot. Three. Four. Five. Until his cheeks turned the shade of red.

Gojo, then went to do something unexpected.

He stood on a table and-

"Y/N, I WANT TO TELL YOU SOMETHING"

"Who the fuck let him drink!?", Your intuition warned you something embarrassing was about to happen.

" Oh this is going to be interesting ", a devilish grin appeared on Shoko's face.

" PLEASE DON'T BE IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE ELSE~

PLEASE DON'T HAVE SOMEBODY WAITING ON YOU~"

"Is he singing the lyrics to Enchanted?", Shoko howled with laughter.

" He definitely is", your emotions were somewhere in between embarrassment and happiness.

Needless to say all of you were thrown out of the club and Gojo fell asleep so Suguru had to carry him.

"Best birthday ever", Nanami gave the already asleep scocerer a glare.

The next day Gojo woke up in Suguru's dorm with a severe headache.

" Morning princess, It's time to wake uppp~", Suguru sang, he couldn't wait until Satoru remembers what he did last night.

Suguru handed him a hangover drink.

"Do you remember anything from last night?", this is going to fun.

" No? Did I do something?", Gojo was way too casual. Suguru couldn't let the golden opportunity slip so he took out his phone and showed him the video he recorded last night.

It took Gojo 2 seconds before he could register what exactly happened in the video and when he did he wished the ground would swallow him right then.

"WHY DIDN'T YOU STOP ME? OH NO HOW CAN I FACE Y/N NOW?", it was funny to see how red his face had turned.

"In our defense you told us "You'll see" when Shoko asked about your plans. If this was your plan then it was pretty shit", Suguru put his hands up in defense.

Gojo groaned and put his head in his hands. He would rather die than face you now.

Gojo left Suguru's room quietly in the hope of not running into you but universe had other plans that day.

He was walking down the hall when he ran into you.

"Oh", you both said in unison.

Satoru rubbed the back of his head not knowing what to say, " Hey...?" God that was awkward.

"Gojo we need to talk", there it comes, the moment he wanted to avoid.

" Listen Y/n I'm so sorry about last night. I know that this is not what you want to hear after the shit I pulled there but-", Gojo paused and then,

"-but Y/n, I want you to know that it's you. It's always been you. I was stupid enough to date someone I don't even like because I didn't know how to express my feelings for you. I know I'm not in a position to ask it but Y/n, would you give me a chance to prove my love for you?", He was speaking so fast that you didn't even had the time to register it properly.

It took you solid 5 seconds to process what he had just said.

"I-Its alright if you don't want me as your boyfriend I understand-", Gojo mistook your silence for rejection.

" No- Satoru - wait- I love you too idiot ", Satoru gave you the biggest smile.

" Y/n can i kiss you?", his blue eyes reflected anticipation.

"Yes", it sounded like a whisper but that was all he needed to hear.

His lips meets yours, his hand holding your chin and your hand his in hair. It was a soft, delicate kiss but you swear the world disappeared for a moment.

" Eww get a room you two", Shoko gave you a disgusted look.

"Shoko how long have you been standing there!", You shouted at her , ears turning red.

" Guess we will never know "

Satoru then walked you to your room and gave a a final kiss before leaving. As he was about to leave you called him

"Satoru!", he turned his head.

" I was enchanted to meet you", you watched his face turning a bright shade of red. You were never going to let him live this moment down.

History Giants: Titanichthys clarki

Ti. clarki is among the largest known placoderms we have fossil record off, remains of their jaws, skull and shield bones are found scattered but some complete specimens offer a complete view of this peculiar and possible first large filter feeding vertebrate from the late devonian. AMNH 7315 or AMNH FF 7134 (IDK why the different ID from Engelman reference) represent one of the biggest known specimens recovered alongside the Moroccan Ti. termieri, having a head length of 75 cm and extended flat a breadth of 1.4 meters.

Engelman paper on Dunkleosteus body calculation used the measurements of this specimen alongside the smaller but quite complete CMNH 5768 implementing OOL giving on both specimens a body size of 3.7 and 4.15 meters respectively, making this one of the few placoderms that can rivalice in length to Dunkleosteus.

Reconstructing Titanichthys

If you are wondering about some details on this reconstruction looking this way, proportions, shape of the head and the strange "fang" on the front that lacks many recons is because I spend some time trying to check how to reconstruct properly this armored fish, which ended up with this skeletal reconstruction

This already comes from what I tried to do several months ago with the need to properly reconstruct this placoderm since the available figures and references seem not to expose several elements, even those that we do know exist which are not often highlighted in the paper skeletal reconstructions. in this case the base of everything is mostly from CMNH 50319, perhaps one of the most complete Titanichthys with material described online (scale bar 1 m)

I was not just comfy about doing this reconstruction based only in sketches, so instead on assuming proportions by digital sketches in a 2D way, I spend few weeks working my way into blender and modeling each pieces I did build a basic model from most of the bone that forms the whole skull and thoracic shield bones, the model for the moment is not available anywhere, and I don't think I could share it online for the moment.

Every minor thing that is not know is being filled with other of its relatives such as Bungartius and Tafilalichthys, both species the most close relatives on few cladistic trees. Unlike the filter feeder, these two are known to might have been hard prey eaters, they are relatively more complete and better preserved so they work out as a reference base being one of the most useful aspects the lacking elements of the jaw.

Probably is important to remark a lot of mounts that are used as references are pretty incomplete in the front, with also the lower jaw being backwards, the extreme of the jaws should be touching in V shape and the notch probably was filled with cartilage called a meckel's cartilage.

In general picking Bungartius as a sample the upper jaw possess the complete set of superognathal plates, the upper jaw bones that exist on all placoderms, in many species vary in size and shape, which even Titanichthys there is some evidence of a Posterior Supergnathal Plate along the complete specimen (PSG, see above), but not the Anterior (MG or ASG), inferring from the position of both supergnathal and the articulation of the cheek bone where the inferognathal fits, this hypothetically could mark how these bones configurated in the skull.

Eye with this, my reconstruction is speculative, based on how these bones articulates on other specimens, new evidence and more material could provide a more accurate conclusion.

Compared to Dunkleosteus is amazing that level of diversity these reached on the last days of the Devonian, both belonging to two totally different radiations of Arthrodira they grew to become the giants of their time, though currently with this body reconstruction Dunk remains very robust on body shape compared to the more compact shaped Titan.

BTW for those curious how it would look like with its jaw closed.

Bdubs' typing style

saw a post that i felt did Not describe bdubs' typing habits correctly at all so i needed to make a post about it.

OLD typing style (like 2011 early years) bdubs kinda sucked at typing and grammar lol. He was a slow typer and spelled stuff wrong a lot (mostly big words. he would often voice how he didnt know how to spell sometimes as he did it. and then he'd spell it wrong lol). would type abbreviations too like bbl, brb, lol, np, etc. Sometimes he would type ones like "lol" in all caps. He would also shorten some words/spell them an alternate way like "gunna" instead of "gonna" or "lil" instead of "little"

He didn't really use emotes too much other than a basic :) or ;) usually. you could maybe throw in a :P or :D if you wanted but i mostly see the former.

He would not use other punctuation like apostrophes much if at all, sometimes use commas where needed, and not capitalize his sentences. would use periods if typing more than one sentence in the same message, and using question marks where needed, and sometimes exclamation marks if he felt the need (sometimes more than one if hes "mad"). he'd even use "..." in his sentences (usually without a space between words).

NEW typing style- Bdubs is technically better at typing (lol). One of the issues with new videos though in order to find chat messages is that people often cut out any kind of chatting in edited videos. But i will describe what i can based off what we do see- (its not much different tbh)

A bit faster of a typer now but if you watch him actually type in videos/streams, you'll see him get stuck sometimes as he tries to figure out his sentences. but he does spell things correctly now for the most part.

Interestingly I would sometimes see in old videos where id see him typing some sentences in a more ~proper~ manner. ex one being "i look forward to seeing such things as these" at guude when he said he was recording something. In hermitcraft charity stream last year he whispered to etho "of course! with our prefect prowess" (screenshot below). which is not at all his *usual* way of typing, its more exaggerated on purpose.

this is funny to me that i have noted it so long ago, and then we have a guy who seems very into settings that would lend that kind of speech (all his bwb kingdoms, the king arc with ren where its VERY apparently used). that said he doesnt do this much- dont go overboard on this one! i feel its mainly when bragging about himself, or a few times where he thinks it would be amusing- he can be pretty sarcastic sometimes (outside of the king arc roleplaying)

He still doesn't use emotes much (i cant think of many new videos where he does, but i dont have as much reference in these new videos. i would play it safe and stick to the simple ones mentioned above. While he still doesn't punctuate his sentences as much and still doesn't capitalize, I feel like he types a bit more how he talks? using exclamations more to finish his sentences, sometimes a "?!", maybe more than one exclamation even- and usually when sounding "mad" in chat he will use all caps. sometimes a multiple !! or ??

i actually have a bit of candy cane in my AU, though it doesnt really go well.

hunter is an interesting character to me. in my AU im thinking of making the rot grow based on the natural urges the creature with the rot pursues. for hunter that is karma 1 [violence/anger]

hunter has a hard time controlling their anger, and it progressivly get worse as different events happen, some of those events being the two heartbreaks she endures, unrequited love by spearmaster, and a breakup with survivor [they were just not compatible in personalities]

artificer tries to help him out, and it kinda works, but hunter still lets karma 1 consume them until it becomes hll

this is as much as i got to say for them, im a bit tired, my brain has stopped working hehe, hope this is good

for designs, i recalled i got a tag on my hunter designs saying one looked like a nurse, and i thought that was so fitting and wanted to keep that vibe, i hope i was successful. i also just think the pink fits them alot, i like pink hunters. very valentines to me. if i could do digital art again, id totally try to do a valentines day art with them but i dont think thats going to happen. and of course i had to add some nsh in there with the green and the mark on the back of their neck. hunter is also kinda like a maned lioness, i tried to convey a more lion like look on her.

for monk, it was just a really pretty yellow combo and i think it was the best yellows i got. the purple goes well with it, and kinda matches surv's eyes too, though that could just be me.

surv i tried to keep more monochrome and dull, but i really liked the more warmer brighter colours, i think it gives more life to them. heres two things i did when comparing and seeing which colours looked best in contrast with monk.

the colors i used definitely go better. i also really like albino survivors, but i wasnt successful with that, the only thing that could be albino would be the eyes.

Moomin x JJBA AU - Intro post!

Hello!!!! I figured I should make a post about this, and probably some other aus too eventually…

(I’m gonna go ahead and put this under a cut cus it’ll be long, but even if you don’t care about the au I promise it’s not just words!!! I put silly drawings too!!!)

Alright! So this is an au where characters from jjba are like moomin characters! To clarify, they are still in their normal universe, with stands! (I may also do some spin offs in a no stands/ actually in moomin valley version of this au too!)

I’m calling this the “JOJOxter au” because all of the jojos are joxters :]

I’ll start with a list of each species + a brief explanation of traits / details!

(Note that I have made moomins / snorks roughly the same thing in this which is why there isn’t a section for moomins)

Joxters

Joxters are very cat like, in appearance and behavior. They tend to be very adventurous, though sometimes lazy by nature (though this is the general rule, there is of course exceptions to this!).

Physical traits can include: cat-like eyes (yellow sclera and cat pupils), retractable claws, sharp canine teeth, markings on the nose bridge, cat-like ears and tails, fur on various places of the body (hands, forearms, chest, legs, etc), and whiskers.

Mymbles

Mymbles are the most humanoid of the bunch. They can be anywhere from extremely short (like little my (from moomins) or diego (in my au), to extremely tall (like mymble mama or mista). Mymbles often have a love of chaos and general shenanigans. They are also known for having strong familial bonds. Mymbles are able to hibernate, and do so occasionally.

Physical traits can include: small horns with rounded ends, skinny tails, and sharp teeth.

Snufkins

Snufkin are a mix between Mymbles and joxters. They can show traits more similar to one or the other, be a perfect mix of the two, or even change from one to the other. As such a lot of their characteristics depend on the individual!

Physical traits can include: cat-like eyes (usually without the yellow sclera), tails, sharp teeth, pointy or claw-like nails, fur on various parts of the body, and whiskers.

Muddles

Muddles are generally known for being very emotional, or feeling one (or more) emotions very strongly. Usually anxiety or fear (moomin example is the muddler), but it can be any emotion(s). They often like to collect things, and get attached to or find comfort in their collection.

Physical traits can include: long floppy ears (like a rabbit’s), whiskers, long tails, fur on the legs, and large eyes.

Snorks

Snorks are very round looking creatures, known for being very soft! They are able to change the color of their fur based on their emotions. Snorks are known for being friendly or accommodating, but this is more due to general snork philosophy rather than a trait! They often have many hobbies, and are known to be very big on hibernating the winters away, though they don’t have to.

Physical traits can include: pointy ears, long tails with tufts of fur on the end, paw pads, and round faces

For context, this is how horses are drawn in the moomins (or at least *a* horse) and I thought it would be funny to draw them like that too!

So diego rides a normal sized horse in this, since having a small one would put him at a severe disadvantage in the race!

End to End

In “End to End,” my new column for Locus Magazine, I propose a policy framework for a better internet: the “End to End” principle (E2E), a bedrock of the original design for the internet, updated for the modern, monopolized web, as a way of disenshittifying it:

The original E2E marked the turning point from telco-based systems where power was gathered at the center, controlled by carriers, to the packet-switched internet, where power moved to the edges. Under the old model, only the network operator could add new features. If you wanted to create, say, Caller ID, you needed to convince the phone company to update its switches to support a new signaling system (and you probably had to rent a Caller ID box from the carrier, too).

But packet-switching made it possible for new services to be created by people at the edges of the network. Once your device was connected to the internet, it could exchange data with any other device on the internet. If someone set up a voice-calling system and you connected to it, they could add Caller ID to it without asking Ma Bell for permission.

End to end was the core ethic of this system: the idea that the telcos that sat beneath these systems should get out of the way of their users, serving only to deliver data from willing senders to willing receivers as quickly, efficiently and reliably as possible.

E2E was a powerful idea, one that truly treated the telcos as utilities — the plumbing that sat beneath the services, obliged to serve its subscribers by doing their bidding to the extent they could. If you chose to use a internet calling service instead of making phone calls, the carrier’s job was to shuttle those packets around, not to slow them down or block them to funnel you into its rival service.

There’s a powerful logic to this: no one rents a phone line because they want to make sure that the carrier’s shareholders are getting the highest possible return on their investment. The reason we buy network connections is to get to the services we value.

We have no duty to arrange our affairs to the benefit of a carrier’s shareholders. If those shareholders are so emotionally fragile that they can’t bear the thought of network users making their own choices on which services to use, they should get into a different line of work.

E2E wasn’t a law, it was a principle. Principles are useful! They can be embedded in laws (for example, the laws that establish most network providers as common carriers often include an E2E rule), but just as importantly, they can give us a vocabulary for critiquing or designing services: “Ugh, I won’t use that service, it’s not end to end,” or “How can we make this work in an end to end way?”

Principles can be integrated into professional codes of ethics, or procurement rules for public bodies (“Our university only buys end to end services”). Tech groups and publications can use principles to rank competing technologies (“Which network providers are end to end?”).

Network Neutrality is a way of operationalizing E2E: the idea of Net Neutrality is that carriers should be obliged to treat all traffic the same. If you request Youtube packets from Comcast, Comcast should deliver those packets as quickly and reliably as it can, even though its parent company, Universal, owns several competing services.

Net Neutrality can be treated as a principle (“This ISP sucks — it violates Net Neutrality”) or as a regulation (“The FCC is fining your ISP because it violated Net Neutrality”). As a regulation, Net Neutrality has a problem: it’s hard to administer, because it’s very difficult to detect Net Neutrality violations. The internet is a “best effort” network, with no service guarantees, so when your Youtube connection starts to jitter, it’s hard to prove that this is because Comcast is screwing with it, as opposed to regular network congestion.

Which brings me to my E2E proposal: end to end for services. Contemporary services have no E2E. If you search for a product on Amazon, Amazon often won’t show you that product until you’ve looked at five screens’ worth of other products that have paid Amazon to interrupt your search:

Platform creators are workers whose boss is an algorithm that docks every paycheck to punish them for breaking rules they aren’t allowed to know about, because if the boss told you the rules, you’d learn how to violate them without him being able to punish you for it. Again, it’s wild that we’re arguing about “shadowbanning” (a service choosing not to send your work to people who never asked to see it), while ignoring the fact that platforms won’t deliver your posts to people who explicitly subscribed to your feed:

Alexander Graham Bell’s first telephone operators were young boys who entertained themselves by deliberately misconnecting calls, putting you in contact with people you never asked to talk to and refusing to connect you with the people you were trying to converse with.

The boys were openly rude to customers. They talked back to subscribers, saucing off, uttering facetious remarks, and generally giving lip. The rascals took Saint Patrick’s Day off without permission. Bell fired those kids. Even the original telecoms monopolist understood that the point of a telephone network was to connect willing speakers with willing listeners.

Today’s tech barons are much more interested in charging other people to interrupt your consensual communications with nonconsensual and often irrelevant nonsense and ads. This is part of the enshittification cycle: first, the platforms lock you in by giving you a good deal, including feeds that contain the things you ask to see and search boxes that return the thing you’re looking for.

Then, platforms take away your surplus and give it to business customers. They spy on you and use the data to help target you on behalf of advertisers, whom they charge low rates for ads that are reliably delivered. They insert performers’ and media companies’ posts into your feed, generating traffic funnels that result in clicks to off-platform sites. They offer low fees and even subsidies to platform sellers and creators who produce DRM media, like ebooks and audiobooks.

Users get locked into the platform — by the collective action problem of convincing their friends to leave, by the collapse of local retail that can’t match the investor-funded subsidies of would-be monopolists, by DRM that they are legally prohibited from removing, causing them to lose their investment if they quit the service.

Business customers also get locked to the platform: platform sellers have to sell where the buyers are; publishers and creators have to provide media where the audiences are; advertisers have to run ads on the services they’ve optimized for.

Once everyone is locked in, the platform can fully enshittify, harvesting surpluses from users and business customers for themselves. Platforms can hike fees, charge media companies and creators to reach their own subscribers, block posts with links off-site, insert ads into media (like Audible is doing with paid audiobooks!), and so on.

This is the cycle that E2E seeks to interrupt. E2E for services would dictate that platforms should connect willing speakers and willing listeners. The best match for your search should be at the top of the results — even if someone is willing to pay more to put a worse match there. Emails should be delivered to people you’ve told your provider you want to correspond with — not sent to a spam folder or blocked.

As with the original E2E, there’s lots of ways we can use this principle. It can simply be a term for criticizing platforms (“You aren’t sending my posts to the people who follow me — that’s a violation of the end to end principle!”). It can be a law (“It is a deceptive and unfair practice for ecommerce companies to deliberately return search results that are not the best match they can locate for the users’ query”). It can be a punishment (“The FTC settled with Google today and ordered the company to implement a Gmail feature that permits users to identify senders whose messages will never be blocked or sent to spam”).

Lots of people are pissed off about Big Tech and many have proposed that we could make it better by treating platforms as “utilities.” But I don’t want President DeSantis to run my email provider, or to decide what’s too “woke” for me to see (or post) on social media.

An E2E rule, on the other hand, creates a role for government that doesn’t determine who gets to speak or what they get to say — rather, it ensures that when people speak and to others who want to hear them, the message gets through.

Unlike Net Neutrality, E2E is easy to administer. If I claim that your emails are being sent to spam after I marked you as a sender I want to hear from, we don’t have to do a forensic investigation into Google’s mail servers to determine if I’m right. You just send me an email we observe where it lands.

Likewise for search: if I search Amazon for a specific product or model number, it’s easy to tell whether that product is at the top of the search results or not.

Same goes for delivery to subscribers: if we suspect that Twitter is shadowbanning posters — say, for including their Mastodon addresses in their bios, or linking to posts on Mastodon — we just send some test messages and see whether they are delivered.

Beyond administratability, E2E has another advantage: cheap compliance. Lots of the rules we’ve created or proposed for service providers are incredibly complex and expensive to comply with. Take rules about “lawful but awful” content, which require platforms to somehow determine whether a message constitutes harassment and block it if it does.

These rules require an army of expensive human moderators or a vast, expensive machine learning system, or both — so they guarantee that Big Tech will rule the internet forever, because no one else can afford to launch a new service with better community norms and better practices.

By contrast, E2E is cheap to comply with. Trusted-sender lists for email providers, search engines that put best results first, and content delivery algorithms that show you the things you asked to see in the order that they were posted are all solved problems:

This isn’t to say that platforms wouldn’t be allowed to offer algorithmic feeds and results. Think of how Tumblr does it: you can choose between a feed called “Following” (posts from people you follow) or “For You” (posts that Tumblr thinks you’ll enjoy). Forcing platforms to clearly label their recommendations and give you the choice of controlling your own feed is a powerful check against enshittification.

If you know when you’re in charge and when the platform is driving things, and if you can toggle away from platform-determined feeds to ones that you design, the platform has to be better than you at choosing what you see, or you won’t choose its recommendations.

Platform owners have hijacked the idea that “freedom of speech isn’t freedom of reach” to justify the now-ubiquitous practice of overriding users’ decisions about what they want to see:

The Old Internet had lots to going for it. It wasn’t perfect, though. While it was easy to find the things you knew you liked, it could be hard to find things you didn’t know you liked. Recommendations, whether they come from an algorithm or a human editor, are a source of endless delights. But when a we find something we like through one of those recommendations, we need to know that we can find more from that source if we choose to.

Sometimes it’s nice to scroll an algorithmic feed and get a string of surprises. But we are forced to use those feeds, they will inevitably enshittify, to our detriment, and to the detriment of the people who make the things that please us.

As ever, the important thing about a technology isn’t what it does, it’s who it does it for and who it does it to. When we control our feeds, we can choose to let a recommender system do the driving. If we’re locked into a recommendation system, it drives us.

I’m gonna say something super crazy for a second. One of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to Leon’s appearance in terms of consistency across his different versions is the fact that he loses his freckles and moles past RE2R/RE4R.

I get super excited when artists especially add them into their art pieces when drawing Leon, or when his different versions seem to have them but I get sad thinking about how ID/Damnation/RE6/Vendetta/DI all don’t have those features from RE2R/RE4R. Obviously he looks different, darker hair and stubble, but still!

I understand it’s an issue regarding face model changes vs using CG and Capcom having all of these different versions of Leon with gaps in his story. But damn, it makes me sad when I don’t see the prominent moles/beauty marks he has on the base of his throat and the noticeable one on his forearm and biceps.

I think in Infinite Darkness Leon appears to have freckles or something like that. I don’t know what it is with his face model specifically in ID! that makes me go berserk but I’ll never shut up about how pretty he is. Like he’s perfect in ID!, my #1 fav. But when that face model pops up on Death Island he looks different? Older yeah, but different. Like it’s him but it’s not. Still gorgeous though.

Petition to keep his moles/beauty marks/freckles pls and thanks. 🙏

And don’t get me started on the idea that he doesn’t have scars cause he 100% does idc, argue with the wall bitch.

Happy Mistborn Fortnite Friday!

ID, more pictures, and rambling under the cut

Now. Time for rambling>:)

This took about 7 months to make, from asking permission to the very last stitches. However, I had to adjust my initial plan A Lot to make it actually work, which explains the long time. For example, my first idea was to use black fabric for the background, but my options for that were a fabric that was way too flimsy (the marking pencil warped it) and something I realized much later was canvas- too thick. I probably could have gone to the fabric store and gotten other black fabric, but on top of that, I had a lot of trouble marking the pattern on it, so I eventually realized. Wait a minute. I can just use my regular white fabric. That would be much easier.

I also initially wanted to use a 6 inch hoop, which made the satin stitches much too big. The general maximum for the length of a satin stitch is 1cm, not 1in, so I adjusted the pattern to a much more sensible 4 inch diameter. I still worked it on a 6 inch hoop, though, because it had extra room.

The next big obstacle was that I wanted to use herringbone stitch for Mistborn somehow. After a bit, I realized it wouldn't really fit the shapes there, but I was like nooo... I have to use all these different stitches or else it won't be Good or Original... wait a minute that's not true lol. I also changed it from putting 1 stand each of 4 colors in the needle (2 copper, 2 silver) to using the silvers for the outside and the coppers for the inside, which looked better and wasn't too many strands (which might have warped the fabric).

The final adjustment was on Fortnite. I had made the outline in the middle of the project, using backstitch. One option was just to keep it as an outline. The other option was to use satin stitch to fill it in. Usually with satin stitch, if you have an "outline" it actually goes inside the satin stitch, to make it pop out more. I also kinda wanted something actually outside the satin stitch, though, because otherwise it can be pretty jagged, but that might have made the letters too big... So, about halfway through the F, I realized I could end my stitches in the middle of my outline for the best of both worlds! It also somehow made the fabric bunch up much less, which meant it was a lot less stressful to stitch.

So, there ya go, my epic tale of embroidery frustration and innovation. I used 2 strands of:

Light blue (DMC 800) with a split backstitch for the swirls of mist

The same light blue and pink (DMC 894) with a whipped backstitch for Friday

Plain black (DMC 310) for the satin stitch on Fortnite

1 strand each of light silver (DMC 168) and very light silver (DMC 762) with backstitch for the outline of Mistborn

1 strand each of orangey copper (DMC 301) and red copper (DMC 920) for the inside of Mistborn- I dunno what stitch I used really, I just did whatever there.

Hello funny furries in my phone!!

I am in a bit of a sticky situation where I currently can't work because of acquired spinal injury and chronic illness - however need money for doctors appointments and imaging that I can't afford on government benefits. I am unable to take large amounts of work at the moment so will only be offering limited slots of the following, but may take more on if I am handling the workload okay.

More about my situation

I have a family history of spinal issues (my dad had major spine surgery when I was 6, with his side of the family having consistent acquired spine injuries going back generations) and unfortunately my turn on the family spine came a good 10 years before 'normal'. I seem to have 2 separate issues co-occurring in the T and S sections of my spine which are causing gradual motor function loss and a LOT of pain. I have also had a mystery fatigue/pain condition which we are now about to confirm as fibromyalgia since about age 15.

After my legs nearly gave out at work last November during a particularly bad pain episode at work, I went and got an intial MRI that showed irregularities in my spine in the areas my pain comes from. I have gotten much worse since then so need new MRI's with added contrast dye which brings the price up quite a bit (it will be $4-500+). I quit my job in February under the impression that I just needed to rest for a bit and could go to a less intense job after 3 weeks. I honestly don't think I would have lasted much longer if I didn't quit anyway because I was taking close to or the 24 hr limit of panedeine forte at work just for the 8 hour shift (needed to drive so couldn't take stronger opioids + opioids make me feel HORRIBLE). I think my body was holding out until I had a period of rest because I began declining quite rapidly between February and now.

I have been using crutches to help walk/stand for about a month and a half now and I can't stand for more than an hour max (30+ mins is starting to push it tho), which is a HUGE contrast to 6 months ago where I was standing 32+ hours a week and moving around constantly. I've also gone from being able to comfortably lift 25-30kg to struggling with less than 10. These limitations knock out a LOT of jobs I'm qualified for (read: non-skilled, physical labour) - so trying to find answers for what's happening to me is very difficult and slow because I can't afford to just throw myself at specialists; and with the unofficial and slow death of bulk billing in Australia even my GP is getting too expensive. My partner is also disabled and receives DSP from the government so is not in a position to help finance my medical care because he is barely affording his own.

You're of course under absolutely no obligation to support me (and this isn't a sympathy post), but sharing this around would mean the world to me because I REALLY need to get some money together for medical care.
