2:27 AM | HAITANI RAN

Ran’s knuckles are white on the steering wheel, his breath is mist in the cold expanse of his car. He inhales once, squeezes the steering wheel so hard he’s almost convinced he could break it. He switches on the heating,flicks open the packet of cigarettes and puts one between his lips, watching the smoke curl and puff. He’d have thought that spending the better part of an hour beating a man till his brains could be seen would have done something to ease the tight coil of tension and stiffness in his stomach but apparently not. 

His fingers still feel fatigued, still feel as if there are sparks just below the skin of his scarred hands. 

He hadn’t left under the best of circumstances, hadn’t even looked back as he slammed the door on you. You had watched, tears in your eyes as he drove off, his brow pinched, mouth turned down, lip caught between his teeth as he held back all the things he could have said.

He’s still thinking about it now. Still thinking about the look on your face when he shrugged on his jacket and walked out, the keys on the hook shaking as he slammed the front door. You had watched the white paint, watched the door handle stay unmoving, and waited with bated breath, for him to return, say sorry, to take it back. And minutes had passed, the drone of the engine had disappeared and still you waited, would have continued to wait had it not been for the ring of your mobile.

Ran sighs, picks up his phone, half expecting to see a barrage of missed calls from you, and then deflates when he sees nothing but the lockscreen clear of any notifications.He doesn’t know that on your side, you’re doing the same thing, sniffling and checking your phone periodically for any sign that he might have reached out to you.

Ran’s finger hovers over your name. He dials, listens for the ring, his heart hammering in his chest. More nerve wracking than killing a man, he thinks.

You see his name flash on the screen, and you let it ring twice before picking it up, perhaps out of spite, perhaps because you don’t want to make it seem like you were waiting for him, watching the clock tick away. A punishment in itself for the both of you of sorts. 

You wipe your nose on a sodden tissue left on your nightstand, rolling over on your shared bed that smells so horribly like him.  Your heartbeat quickens when you press the phone to your ear.

‘Princess?’ he says, and the air whooshes out of you. There is no playful lilt, no teasing, no sarcasm in it. It is worried and hushed and hoarse, and you can tell by the roughness of it that he’s smoked a few cigarettes before making the call.

Your lip wobbles, and you don’t entirely trust your voice not to betray you right now, so you clear your throat. But even still, that lump right there persists and when you exhale, it comes out shaky.

‘Ran…’ You don’t mean for it to sound so desperate, for your breathy whisper to feed down the line. And perhaps it’s because your heart has been aching since he slammed that door, and you saw the vein in his forehead pulse with anger, but a half-hearted sob pulls its way out of you and drips down the line.

A spike of anxiety shoots its way through him, and he can tell you’ve been crying to yourself over the last few hours. The guilt worms its way into his stomach like a parasite. 

‘Princess …’ he says again, his tongue heavy, sticking to the roof of his mouth. ‘I’m sorry.’ 

The tears are free-flowing and fast and you hiccup into the receiver. It’s been hours, you know that. You know that the jagged edges of your pain have softened into smoother tendrils of heartbreak. You also know that you forgave him the minute you saw his name pop up on your screen. Still, you want to make him work for that forgiveness, you want him to know, to at least feel a fraction of the sharp pain he caused you.

‘Ran I-’ You’re not sure what to say to him to get this feeling across, this strange sensation of both yearning and anger. And you are angry with him, for walking out on you, for not explaining, for the way he reacted to such a simple request. 

Can you take some time off so we can spend a weekend together?

Yet you know that even still, you’ve forgiven him so quickly, and perhaps that’s a testament to what you feel for him. You are irrevocably in love and you know that life is so short and fleeting and that that love is the most sacred gift you could ever share with each other.

‘I know baby,’ he says, and though you can’t see it, he’s hoping that him pressing his forehead into the steering wheel and mentally cursing himself is going to somehow assuage the guilt. ‘I’m stupid, I’m an idiot-’

‘Very stupid-’ you interject, just to drive home the point.

‘Very stupid, correct.’ He runs a hand through his hair, preparing himself for saying whatever he needs to, if it means he’s going to win you back. ‘I am the most insufferable person on the whole Earth-’

‘That’s an understatement-’ 

He tuts at your minor interruption and you snort, sniffling, your skin cracking from the tears dried on your face.

‘I’m a stupid boyfriend, an idiotic man who doesn’t deserve to have such a beautiful and smart girl in my life-’ 

He’s on a roll now, gripping the phone tight and fiddling with a cigarette lighter you bought for him, his initials carved into the gold casing. 

‘Ran-’ You sit up in your bed, brows furrowed.

‘-But I know that I love you,’ he says, an almost imperceptible whisper that you swear no one else would have heard over the drone of the car’s heating, or the shuffle of sheets as you moved. But you know him, know his words, know his voice anywhere. Your heart knows his instinctively, and you’re so in rhythm with each other that in a sea of voices, you could pick him out. You would know him beyond death, beyond anything. 

You’ve heard him say it before, many times before in fact. But it’s still true as ever. That he has your heart in a vice grip and that he, through the simple act of existing, of saying the three words, can make you come undone where you sit. You feel yourself soften, the edges of your pain withering away like leaves in autumn. You try to fight the watery smile that’s threatening your lips and even though your chin wobbles still, you think it’s okay.He’s okay, you’re okay.

‘Princess?’ He hasn’t heard you reply and it worries him just a bit. 

You take a shaky breath and all that tension dissipates through your skin. Your fight seems so trivial compared to this, compared to the vast expanse of love between you, the years and years of building what you both cherish so much. ‘I love you too Ran.’ 

And with that, he sighs, lifting his head from the steering wheel, gripping the phone a little looser and his shoulder sag as he leans against the plush leather seat. It is so simply said, so simply done, that the argument from the afternoon almost seems non-existent compared to this. 

‘I’m on my way home,’ he says and he means it. ‘I’ll see you soon Pretty baby.’ 

‘Can’t wait,’ you reply and he can almost feel your smile through the phone. There is no tension, no echo of worry or hurt feeding through the line this time. Only love, persisting as it always does.

Here’s my new layout of my iPad, I finally changed it after 8 months. Nobody talks about how time taking this is but it is therapeutic so not complaining.

This was my last one, right here. I definitely added more widgets that are helpful and aesthetic.

Widgetsmith: I have had this for a while, I just changed a few pictures and moved it around. It’s really simple to navigate around and provides various options for time, calendar, countdowns, etc. I personally only use it for images or quotes.

Bears: I came across this recently on some post on Instagram and thought I had to check it out. It’s a really cute app for countdowns and has many layouts and it keeps switching to all the countdowns you have. If your screen is empty and you wanna add something nice you should go for this.

Focus Habit: I have tried many apps to have a to-do or to track my habits, this one is the best one yet. Works really simple you can add your habits and how frequently you wanna follow them. You can keep a track by just checking the particular habit that day. It also gives you reminders and has attractive layouts, it’s perfect.

Top Widgets: I literally only use this app for the transparent background feature and look at those icons, how cool is that! I really haven’t explored anything else but I love the feature I’m using right now.

Pinterest Board: This just changes a picture from your board every hour. It’s great cause you can customise your board however you like. I made a board with just blue and white quotes. If you wanna use it, click here.

Need to mention my lockscreen, it’s from Fruits Basket. I just love this anime and I would kill to watch it for the first time.

In Blood Moon Rising (TTT) when Reyna guns it to the tunnel in her truck, I'm thinking as we creep along Lester is quite unsafely in the bed of the truck, and then a voice from a nearby car screams "LESTER?!" He turns and it's his fucking parents next to them. He doesn't know what to say. How can he possibly explain the situation to them when they thought for months now that he was dead? So when Reyna pulls the truck into the maintenance lane, he says something like "Look, I don't have time to explain any of this. But trust me, if I make it back home, I'll tell you guys everything. I..." (teary eyed I cri) "S'agapo." (Greek for I love you- remember Lester is actually from Greece and has the accent, but he is able to switch to an American one)

-Lester and Commodus' dynamic will be... interesting. Without too much spoilers, Commodus wants Lester dead even more than Apollo, but obviously he doesn't know that if he dies, so will Apollo. When Lester, having gotten the absolute shit beaten out of him, tells him this, he doesn't quite know how to handle it... so of course the New Hercules decides to just kill them at the same time. That fact plays a role in the Battle for the Waystation.

-Apollo actually adopts some of Lester's tendencies and whatnot, as he's in his body. For example, he gets cold easily and can withstand heat, he speaks a bit like him at times, and straight up behaves like him in the beginning. Why? It'll be explained in the story, but it has to do with his fragmented memory.

Janus and Virgil take turns pranking Roman where Virgil writes spooky messages and Janus pretends to be a ghost from the 20s and now Roman is convinced the bathroom is haunted and refuses to stay in the restroom without the lights on.

Janus and Roman both buy everyone gifts and Virgil has had to talk with them to set up boundaries because he gets uncomfortable with it sometimes. It's all good though; communication is key after all.

Madrigal Headcannons if they were in 2022

I couldn’t shake the idea of them with Tiktok and social media

Isabela and Camilo do Tiktok dances together. They spend hours doing it and laugh whenever Camilo shape shifts into another family member to do a dance. Cause like… how else would they ever see Tia Juieta twerk??

Mirabel taught Julieta how to do TikToks and she blew up sharing recipes and giving advice. She has similar content to Tabitha Brown. Everyone loves her.

Bruno is always walking around mumbling Tiktok sounds. He spent weeks going “That’s a big word for Elmo”

Isabela listens to Doja Cat. She probably listens to Ariana Grande too.

Luisa’s workout playlist is the best.

Antonio only quotes Tiktoks he hears from his siblings and cousins. Mirabel sometimes posts him on her page giving animal facts.

Luisa likes to vlog. She doesn’t do it every day but she tries to put a video out every week.

Bruno has an old boom box from the 90s to perform his rat rap battles. Camilo keeps trying to tell him to just use his phone but Bruno likes the authenticity of the boom box.

Isabela wanted to shave her head for a while but they were afraid she’d kill Abuela if she did.

Mirabel has the led lights in her room. She changes the color to reflect her mood.

Mirabel sends Abuela Tiktoks just to make her laugh. Abuela only knows how to watch them if Mirabel sends them to her. She thinks it’s sweet that Mirabel only sends her stuff she’ll like.

Isabela and Camilo are both on gay Tiktok.

Everyone knows when Pepa is stuck in a Tiktok rabbit hole because she laughs so hard it rains and sometimes hard enough to stir up some wind.

Isabela and Camilo can’t drive. It’s the rules. They’re gay.

Felix never drives. He’ll ask Pepa to go somewhere with him and then toss her the keys. She complains every time but she’s always happy to be spending time with him.

Camilo and Bruno watch Cocomelon with Luisa to unwind.

Isabela is convinced she invented iced coffee when she was seven. Pepa is the only one to support this theory. It only happened because Pepa was hailing and some of the ice landed in Isabela’s mug.

Luisa and Agustin like to watch animal videos. They cry all the time.

Abuela plays coloring games on her phone. So does Bruno. They bond over sharing pictures they’ve done.

Felix has a secret SoundCloud. Pepa knows but she’s sworn to secrecy…Julieta and Bruno are also sworn to secrecy. Dolores is also sworn to secrecy.

The triplets discovered Snapchat filters and spend hours taking selfies. It’s really cute. Sometimes they get them printed to hang up in their rooms or to go in photo albums.

Isabela’s lockscreen is herself. Queen shit.

Luisa likes to watch cartoons with Antonio and the animals.

Bruno plays Minecraft.

All of the cousins love animal crossing. They trade turnips and stuff all the time.

Sometimes family game nights are on the switch or the bust out the Wii.

Antonio plays Roblox.

The whole family did a murder mystery once. Agustin and Dolores planned the whole thing. Everyone got really into it.

They like to race go karts and are extremely competitive.

When Bruno was away Julieta used to watch home videos on their birthday. It made her cry every single time. She was afraid to watch them with Pepa because she knew Pepa would get angry just from the hurt she felt.

Mirabel loves YouTube tutorials. So does Agustin.

Luisa is scared of roller coasters but she’ll go on if Mirabel holds her hand.

Isabela definitely dyed her hair with the money pieces in the front. They were pink first then eventually green.

Pepa likes to embarrass Julieta by telling her kids she had an undercut once. Julieta will always deny it.

The triplets have a group chat. It’s called

You click on the hashtag, curious about what your boyfriend had been up to to make everyone go all crazy over him. The first two posts that came up were ones that you were used to seeing, one 'barking' because the 'warms' (Wooyoung's arms) had made an appearance, and the other simply smashing their keyboard because...it's Wooyoung. "Honey...your lockscreen got caught on camera," you said, voice and hand shaky as you brought your phone up to Wooyoung's face.

He glanced at the screen and nodded, calm as a clam. "It's cute, isn't it?"

Confused, you flipped your phone back over so you could see the photos, which have now loaded. You've never let out a bigger sigh of relief. It was not what you had been expecting, and while you are relieved, you don't know if you should be happy or annoyed.

"Are you cheating on me?" You narrow your eyes at him as you sat up so that you could lean your back on the bedframe.

"With Meonji?" Wooyoung laughs, about to ruffle your hair when you smack him away jokingly. He looks at you in disbelief before turning on his puppy eyes and pout. "Are you really getting jealous over a dog?"

"You didn't tell me you changed your lockscreen! I was so scared you were going to get into trouble because of me." Yes, Wooyoung had set your face as his lockscreen just a few weeks back, and you had put his on yours. It was a selfie of the both of you making a heart together but split down in the middle. "It's risky but I like it that way." Was what he had said.

"Hongjoong refused to let me step out of the dorm if I didn't change it," Wooyoung said, making sure to emphasise on his leader's name. You weren't sure if he meant to so you had someone to blame, or so you couldn't blame him for changing the lockscreen.

"But sweetheart, look." Wooyoung switches his screen off and on, the familiar Meonji picture greeting the both of you. He presses on the screen firmly and you realise that it's a live lockscreen so you watch on with your full attention, not sure what to expect.

The camera only captures Meonji for the first few seconds before it zooms out to show that it was Wooyoung who was filming the video, and you pop up right beside him and Meonji, a huge smile on your face — his favourite facial expression of yours.

"I thought that was a selfie," you told him, which explains why you had no memory of taking this video at all. On top of that, you were distracted by a lot of things in the salon that day, which was probably why you never noticed that it wasn't a photo at all.

"I know-"Wooyoung presses a kiss to your forehead-"I tricked you because you always get so weirdly shy when I tell you it's a video." You rolled your eyes at him playfully because it's true and you can't deny it.

"But look! You're radiating love of my life energy in this video!" Wooyoung presses his screen again just so that he could watch the video again, the wide grin not leaving his face for even a second. He turns over to look at you in the flesh and he feels the need to correct himself.
