Day 30 - ATLA Ty Lee Fanart
Wrapping up the ATLA dæmons with a Fire Ferret for Ty Lee! I mostly chose this because of Pabu's acrobats in LOK tbh
Bit late getting this one posted but still counts imo. Just one day left to go in my 30 day posting challenge!

Sorry this is a long one too, yes the actor got credit and such…but she been retired for a few years

Also this

Okay let use a recent ish example, Kelly Marie Tran voiced and still the current voice of Raya. Who is Vietnamese descent and in mirage, the actor who played egg man assistant in the live action movies voiced the Arab character, though he admit he made calls to his mom to relearn the Arabic language properly and such
Now the two actors are used in modern times because they are far easy to get than in the 90’s-00’s
Also this https://x.com/mooncrescentic/status/1778892711623299199?s=46
And they basically said all main cast expect Zuko is getting recast
Here the issue
How will the chemistry will be?
Like yes the vas of ATLA are grown up, but they still loved their roles and their characters will be grown up as well
Also shaping the characters…the problem is that the avatar movies will take place in 40-30 years gap with ATLA and LOK.
So it more like the Clone wars show where you get stuff fleshed out between AOTC and ROTS. But at the end of the day we all know what it leads to
Also like presuming that having vas match their character skintones= more creative roles…
Okay very like probably going to write tomorrow or very late.
But modern writers are apathetic af especially with the shitshow sweet baby inc showed.
Tumblr media
I had to look, original VA is not dead, retired, in jail, or otherwise incapacitated, they should leave the voice cast alone for consistencies sake.
Whole thing with Apu, I saw bunches of Indians that were getting annoyed that they did what they did with him, guy was no joke on the show, successful businessman with a family and a very long backstory, and yes 1001 stereotypes, it's a comedy though.
And they basically said all main cast expect Zuko is getting recast Here the issue How will the chemistry will be?
If they're all in the studio together doing it, that will be a challenge

Ahh I did not know that, the OG VA's are the ones that shaped the characters, new ones will encounter resistance from the actual fans if they screw that up.
Also like presuming that having vas match their character skintones= more creative roles… Okay very like probably going to write tomorrow or very late. But modern writers are apathetic af especially with the shitshow sweet baby inc showed.
They're va's skin tone thing is just silly to fuss with none of the Simpsons VA's are yellow and they do just fine.

for the non lok watchers, could you elaborate on the problems of the rcpd and how it became something that toph didn't want to happen?
Tumblr media
Some quick points because I had a nice long draft written and lost it all bc this app hates me:
LoK often strikes a tone that champions the status quo above social progress. There’s a lot of ideological mish mash that basically comes down to neoliberalism as a default, with villains that act as strawmen for the political struggles of the 20th century. As a result, it doesn’t really place a critical eye on the RCPD as a whole, despite its depiction as an arm of the government with a monopoly on violence which serves the interests of the governing elites. This is jarring to a viewership coming out of watching A:tLA, which places its protagonists in direct opposition to unjust institutions in a global conflict, and whose writing makes interesting and balanced criticisms of players within that conflict regardless of social, political, or economic position. The last time the audience saw an elite force of uniquely talented earthbenders take orders from a government official, they watched the Dai Li run a totalitarian shadow government in Ba Sing Se. With this parallel in mind, it’s only natural that they balked at the revelation that Toph - who often expressed her hatred for corrupt and unjust systems - was party to the RCPD’s formation.
Where LoK - and particularly the RCPD- struggles as a fantasy follow-up to its anti-authoritarian, anti-colonial precursor is that it doesn’t take any meaningful steps to distinguish itself from real-world problematic policing institutions. It is depicted as a force that ‘arrests first, asks questions later,’ and has even been a hindrance to the protagonists when their goals ran counter to those of the governing body. The RCPD also looks and feels like a New York police force in the early 20th century, which is another conversation in itself given the implication that the Asian-centric culture of yester-year needed to be Americanized to feel like it was in the future… but I digress.
The knee-jerk reaction is to say “Toph hated rules as a child, why would she enforce laws as an adult?” In the interest of neutrality, it bears noting that on a practical level she is well suited to many aspects of the job. Physically and intellectually, that is. It would have been personally fulfilling in many respects, not the least of which is that it began as a favor to her closest friends and placed her in proximity to them.
Ideologically, though, my interpretation differs from LoK canon because while she is not the activist of the group (that’s Katara) she does have strong opinions & ideals, and has the tenacity and cunning to champion her beliefs regardless of the constraints of her position. Part of me sees the LoK timeline as one where Toph was late in doing the internal work to break the cycle of abuse. What better way to ensure her agency is never challenged again than to wield the institutional power that was so often leveraged against her growing up? What points more clearly towards a trauma response than over-correcting her parenting approach based on what she suffered as a kid?
So in this house, Toph already began working on her shit in her 20s-30s. Through that lens, I don’t think she’d have directly shaped the RCPD into what it is in LoK, but rather founded the department on principles of anti-institutionalization, rehabilitative justice, etc. I’ve outlined my ideas for her tenure as the RCPD founder here and here.
Anyhow, I think it bears noting that the RCPD in LoK is decades removed from Toph’s leadership. So I like to imagine that she did lead a progressive organization that championed accountability, questioned unjust or politically-motivated legislation, and truly served the community… but since she stepped down it has been shaped into something she would not recognize.

Rahul Gandhi In Surat Today To Challenge His Conviction In Defamation Case
Rahul Gandhi is likely to move a plea in Surat's sessions court to set aside the Magistrate order convicting him in the defamation case for a remark seen as an insult to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Tumblr media
New Delhi/Surat: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will appear in a Gujarat court today to appeal against his conviction and two-year sentencing in a 2019 defamation case.
Rahul Gandhi is likely to move a plea in Surat's sessions court to set aside the Magistrate order convicting him in the defamation case for a remark seen as an insult to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The former Congress president, sources say, will also ask for an interim stay on the conviction which would also restore his Lok Sabha membership.
Mr Gandhi, who was recently disqualified as a parliament MP after the Gujarat's court order, will be accompanied by his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and the Chief Ministers of three Congress-ruled states - Ashok Gehlot, Bhupesh Baghel and Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
He had met his mother Sonia Gandhi yesterday before his court appearance.
The 52-year-old was convicted by a court and sentenced to prison for two years in Gujarat last month for a 2019 speech in which he linked PM Modi's last name with two fugitive businessmen, remarking how the "thieves" shared the same last name.
The court, however, granted him bail for 30 days to appeal the verdict.
The defamation case was filed against Rahul Gandhi by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA and former Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi for saying "How come all thieves have the common surname Modi?"
Mr Gandhi's Wayanad seat in Kerala is now vacant following his removal from the office and the Election Commission may now announce a special election for the seat.
Mr Gandhi's disqualification order prompted a fractured opposition to come together to attack the BJP over the alleged misuse of central investigative agencies against the members of rival parties.
The BJP has said the conviction has come from an independent judiciary, with party president JP Nadda accusing Mr Gandhi of insulting an Other Backward Class (OBC) community - a key vote base for the party.

30 Day Prompt Challenge
Day 16 - “ I wouldn’t wanna fight you. You’re pretty feisty.“
Fandom: ATLA // LoK
- - - - - - - - - -
The cold tea was Zuko’s first hint that something was off.
Truthfully, he had paid it no mind at first. He had been listening to his industry minister’s ramble on and on about the ongoing remodel at his Ember Island vacation home – one of the oldest estates on the island, or so he repeatedly claimed – for what felt like ages; so, when Zuko took a sip of the cooled drink, he reasonably assumed time had been the culprit, reheated it with his palm, and went back to pretending to listen to the nobleman’s thinly veiled boasting. He spared no expense on the details, making Zuko feel like he was listening to a thorough report at a meeting instead of having a polite conversation at a semi-formal gathering.
Zuko shot Mai a sidelong look, which she met in kind almost immediately. He quirked an eyebrow, a private joke (because holy crow, this old man really could go on about marble selections), and she rolled her eyes in in agreement before turning back to the conversation, her visage the picture of refined boredom.
Zuko was biting back a smile, grateful he wasn’t alone in this absolute torture, when he realized his hand was no cold and wet. He glanced down in confusion to find water droplets clinging to the edges of his cup. He turned the cup in his hand, dragging his fingers across the surface of the china, looking for any possible cracks or chips. He found none. The offending liquid wasn’t tea then – thank goodness, he had just received this tea set from Uncle – so it must have been condensation. But that didn’t answer any of the questions bouncing around in his head either. Where did the condensation even come from? The tea was hot.
A sharp elbow dug into his side painfully. He looked up to find Mai staring at him from the corner of her eye, her eyebrow arched in question. Zuko gave her a slight shrug in return. He decided to let the strange occurrence go, heating his hand once more and keeping it hot. Thankfully, the minister became distracted not long after – something about his teenage daughter talking to someone he didn’t like? – and, bidding the Fire Lord and Lady a hasty farewell, disappeared into the crowd.
Zuko tried hard not to sag in relief, but it’s a near thing. Instead, he unthinkingly brought the teacup to his lips once more. It should have been hot at that point. He was still heating it. He could see the faint red glow of his palm.
He almost choked when the frigid liquid touched his lips, and something solid brushed against his tongue – was that ice?
He recovered from his surprise quickly enough, having suddenly remembered he was in a room full of snooty, uppity nobles. Luckily for him, no one seemed to have noticed his embarrassing mishap. No one except for his wife, that is.
Mai turned to face him fully, the upturned corner of her lips broadcasting her amusement.
“You want to tell me what’s going on?” she asked coolly.
Zuko frowned. “My tea is cold.”
‘You’re acting like a freak because your ‘tea is cold’,” she parroted back, a touch incredulous. “Heat it up then, Fire Lord.” Zuko shot her a deadpan glare, which she returned evenly.
“I am,” he grumbled. “But it’s seemingly cooling down just as fast as I’m -.” He trailed off as the reality of the situation struck him. He resisted the urge to smack himself – was he really that stupid?
He craned his head up a bit to cast his eyes around the room, looking for that telltale flash of blue in a sea of crimson and gold. After a moment, Zuko found her– the only person able to chill the tea he was actively heating – seated on the far side of the hall, immersed in a small crowd. From where he stood, he could only catch glimpses of her as the crowd shifted, but that was more than enough for him to note the stiff line of her shoulders and the hands cradling her rotund midsection protectively.
Mai, who had apparently followed his gaze and came to the same conclusion, hummed. “She’s overwhelmed again.”
Zuko nodded, numbly. “Looks like it. She’s been on edge all week.”
“She can probably use some help,” Mai decided after a beat of silence. “You go and get her out of here. I can handle things.”
Zuko looked down at her, surprised. “Are you sure?”
His wife rolled her eyes. “Yes. This isn’t my first time hosting a boring party after all, and I doubt it will be the last. Besides, that -” she pointed down to his teacup, where a thin layer of ice had begun to form on the surface – “is a cry for help if I ever saw one.” She gently shoved him forward. “Now go.”
Not needing to be told twice – or rather, a third time – Zuko made his way across the room, smiling politely at the guest he passed and smoothly redirecting any potential conversations starters presented to him.
When he finally made it away from the larger crowd, Zuko began to inspect the smaller gathering huddled around the benches on the far wall. It was mostly made up of older women, which he kind of already expected, but there were a handful of interested men and children in the mix as well.
“Not much longer now, is it, Mater Katara?” one of the older women said as he quietly approached from behind. The speaker, a woman with gray-streaked hair and draped in gaudy jewelry, leaned forward so she was practically towering over the seated Waterbender, her hand hovering outward, as though tempted to reach out and touch.
Katara, to her credit, gave a kind smile in response, though Zuko could see the way her eyes carefully watched the offending ring-laden hand. “That’s alright,” she said sweetly, in her ‘diplomat’ voice. “We have a little less than a month left.”
The crowd shifted again at that, bubbling with excitement, and Zuko caught sight of his mother and Kiyi seated on either side of his heavily pregnant friend, keeping the overly curious onlookers at bay, but only just.
His younger sister, who was gently rubbing slow circles onto Katara’s stomach, adjusted herself ever so slightly in her seat so she blocked the baby bump with her body, most notably boxing the handsy older woman out. Pride swelled in Zuko’s chest. He and his mother had had a long conversation with Kiyi prior to Katara’s arrival to emphasize the need for consent before touching her pregnant belly; he was happy to see she’d taken it to heart.
Kiyi suddenly jumped, gasping, and the group jumped along with her. Zuko felt his own shoulders jerk in response, causing some of his tea to slosh out of the cup he was still holding and all over his hand and sleeve.
“I felt them kick!” she squealed, pressing her hand a little more firmly on a spot above Katara’s navel, her face alight in wonder.
“Kiyi, inside voice!” their mother admonished from the other side of the bench. “You gave everyone a fright, including Katara.”
“It felt really cool though, Mom!”
“It’s alright,” Katara soothed, though her smile strained as the group leaned in again. How in the world did no one see how uncomfortable she was right now? “They’re pretty active in the evening. It surprised me too sometimes.”
“You know,” one of the younger women said, “abundant activity at this stage denotes a strong bender.”
“Was there any doubt?” laughed another. “Just look at the parents!”
“A great fighter in the making,” one of the men agreed. “And look – they’ve already started their training.”
“A Master in no time!”
“Oh – another one! A big one!” Kiyi exclaimed as the others tittered. “There’s no need to kick so hard,” she told Katara’s stomach solemnly. “I wouldn’t want to fight you. You’re pretty feisty.” She looked back up to Katara. “Are they going to be a Waterbender like you?”
Katara blinked at the question, clearly taken aback. Blue eyes darted about, as though looking for an answer, but before she could even begin to answer, another voice came from the crowd.
“No, stupid,” one of the children chided – that one kid Kiyi hung around with that Zuko’s never liked - “they’re going to be an Airbender. It’s the Avatar’s kid.”
“Ison!” an older woman gasped, scandalized, pulling her son away to scold him, even as the rest of the crowd murmured in agreement.
Suddenly, Zuko’s hand was burning - and not in the comforting Firebending way he’s used to. He doesn’t need to look down to know the remnants of his tea had frozen solid. He could feel the cracks forming in the china even as he lost feeling in his fingers. He’ll have to ask Uncle for a replacement.
He placed the ruined cup down on a passing waiter’s tray.
Time to intervene.
“I’m terribly sorry to intrude,” he announced, taking great pleasure in the way the gawkers jumped and bashfully shuffled back in his presence. “But I’ve come to see if Master Katara would like to join me on a walk.”
Katara’s shoulders drooped immediately in relief.
“Oh, yes!” His mother said, getting to her feet to help the Waterbender stand. “You’ve been sitting for far too long, dear. You and the baby need the exercise!” She shot Zuko a furtive wink and he had to bite back a grin.
The onlookers glanced about for a moment, uncertain, during which time one of the younger noblewomen pushed her way to the front to offer Zuko a deep bow.
“Allow me to escort her, Fire Lord Zuko,” she requested as she straightened and met his gaze confidently. “I would hate for you to abandon your guests for this. Besides, I was hoping for an opportunity to ask Master Katara more about her travels.”
Katara shot him a pleading look over the young woman’s shoulder, shaking her head ever so slightly.
“I appreciate the offer,” Zuko told the noblewoman, who beamed proudly, “However –” the look fell. “However-.”
He trailed off awkwardly. Technically, she was right; as Fire Lord, he really shouldn’t leave his own party like this. But Katara looked so desperate to escape and -.
“My brother has to do it!” Kiyi interjected, grinning proudly. “Aang said so!”
A beat of silence.
“Uh, yes. That’s right!” His mother cut in, like a guardian spirit. “I’m afraid my son has been personally tasked by his dear friend – the Avatar himself – to attend to his wife and unborn child while he is away on business.”
Another beat as everyone tried to process what was going on.
His mother sent him a meaningful look and his little sister gestured wildly at the door, urging him to take the way out.
“Right,” Zuko agreed hurriedly, “that. Tasked by the Avatar. Personally.” He looked back to Katara, extending his arm. “Shall we?”
“Yes,” Katara accepted, sounding far too eager to be considered polite – but who cared at this point? – and hooked her arm through his. “Lead the way.”
They left without another word. Behind them, his mother began speaking, drawing the onlookers’ attention back to the front. (“Oh, you know how first-time fathers are. So overprotective! Now, On Ji, tell me more about your trip to the Earth Kingdom. Is it true you met the Earth King?”)
“Your mother and sister are lifesavers,” Katara said in a low voice as they carefully navigated through the larger sea of people towards the door on the other end of the room.
Zuko chuckled under his breath. “Don’t I know it.”
It was a bit of a struggle getting out of there since everyone had apparently decided to suddenly ignore them. (Had they really invited so many people today? It was meant to be an intimate gathering.) They had barely made it halfway across the hall when Zuko caught a glimpse of something green and white headed their way. Speaking of life savers…
“Hey,” Ty Lee whispered as she approached them. “Mai said you guys might need help getting out of here.”
“Yes, thank you,” Katara agreed readily, sounding breathless.
That made Zuko pause. He looked down at his friend and found she was still carrying a lot of tension, despite having moved away from the prying crowd. In her back, in her shoulders, in the way her brow furrowed, in the tight grasp she had on his arm. And Zuko just knew it wasn’t only the party that was setting her on edge. Truthfully, she’s been like this since she had arrived back from the North Pole a week earlier; however, tonight was the worst it’s been. A part of him wanted to rationalize it away as late pregnancy discomfort, but something in his gut said otherwise.
“I think,” he said slowly, looking back to the waiting Kyoshi Warrior, “That Katara and I are going to take a breather in the garden.”
Ty Lee’s eyes lit up immediately in understanding, her gaze flickering between him and Katara, before giving him a firm nod.
“I’ll escort you to the door,” she promised. “And then I will meet you at the entrance.”
She let them through the crowd with ease – people suddenly hurrying out of the way as they spotted the Fire Lord with his guard, probably off on official business – and soon enough they were at the door.
Ty Lee gave them another nod as they stepped through the doorway, before heading down a hall leading deeper into the palace, with a faint, “I’ll see you there.”
“Where is she going?” Katara asked, as the doors shut behind them, instantly muting the dull roar of conversation inside.
Zuko savored the silence for a moment, then shrugged. “Just running an errand.” He tugged lightly on her arm, prompting her to keep walking. “You’ll see.”
They moved along the palace hallways slowly. Katara had been reduced to a mere waddle at this point in her pregnancy, so it was only natural that the short trek from the gathering hall to the garden took twice as long. Zuko couldn’t really find it within himself to mind. He’d always enjoyed quiet moments like this with his friends. It was only sweetened as they finally stepped out into the cool evening air. Man, Zuko hadn’t even realized how hot it was in there. Katara sighed in relief as well.
When they finally approached the garden, Zuko was hardly surprised to find that Ty Lee had beaten them there, despite having traveled twice the distance. She hovered at the entrance to the garden, smiling serenely as she watched them approach.
“I told the other Warriors you were out here,” she said, once they reached her, depositing two small, stale loaves of bread into Zuko’s free arm, “so you’ll have some privacy.”
Zuko gave her a small, grateful smile in return. “Thank you, Ty Lee.”
“It’s no problem,” she assured, stepping back towards the palace. “Just holler if you need anything.”
Ty Lee paused for an indecisive moment before stepping closer once more to give Katara a hug – an awkward one, since the baby was in the way – then flitting off back inside.
Katara blinked, staring blankly at the spot the Kyoshi Warrior had just vacated. “Seriously, what was that about?” she demanded, sounding far more confused than annoyed.
“It’s because we came to the garden.” Zuko helped her down the steps and guided her towards the bench beneath his favorite tree next to the pond. “This is where I come when I need a moment alone. And since I brought you here, she probably assumed you needed the same thing.”
“Ah, okay. That’s fair,” Katara hummed as she lowered herself into her new seat. She accepted one of the loaves with a dubious look. “What’s with the bread though?”
Instead of answering, Zuko ripped a chunk off the top of his own load, crumbling it up a bit in his hand before tossing it into the pond.
It took but a moment. The reeds rustled and there’s a sudden beating of wings as several turtle ducks descended on the offering at once. Zuko huffed out a quiet laugh as two of the ducklings squabbled over one of the bigger pieces in their own little game of tug-of-war before the crumb inevitably ripped in half.
Behind him, Katara cooed at the sight, tossing in a bit of bread herself.
“I can see why you like it here,” she told Zuko as he settled beside her on the bench. “It’s peaceful, yet entertaining.”
Zuko chuckled.
They fell into another comfortable silence after that, during which they continued to feed the turtle ducks. Or as comfortable as it could be with Zuko’s mind racing a thousand miles a minute. But as the last rays of sunlight dipped behind the volcanic rocks bordering the capital city and the torches lining the surrounding passageways were slowly lit, Zuko decided enough was enough.
“So,” Zuko began, eyes trained on the pond before him as the turtle ducks floated by once more. He tossed them the last of his bread. “You going to tell me what’s bothering you?”
She went rigid next to him.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she said stiffly, ripping the remaining butt of the bread with far more force than strictly necessary.
Zuko snorted derisively. She’d always been a bad liar. “Give me a break, Katara.”
Her shoulders were climbing up to her ears as she snapped, “I don’t know what you want me to say, Zuko! ‘Cause everything is fine!”
“It’s clearly not,” he countered heatedly, matching her tone as he pushed back to his feet so he could face her properly. “You’ve been acting weird ever since you got here. It’s like you’re constantly stressed!” Katara opened her mouth to retort, but Zuko cut her off – she wasn’t getting away with flimsy excuses. “And this was all before Aang got called away to Cranefish Town two days ago, so I know this isn’t about him being gone.”
The quiet that followed his outburst was tense and all-consuming, but Zuko refused to back down, even as Katara glared daggers into his head and chucked the remaining bread into the water. He’d gone toe to toe with her before and knew quite well that she would sooner encase him in a block of ice then let him cross a line.
Well, he wasn’t an icicle yet, so he kept pushing.
It took a while – a long while, because when had Katara ever not been needlessly stubborn with him? – but eventually, she looked away, eyes bright with tears.
Remorse churned heavily in his gut. He hadn’t meant to make her cry.
“I’m sorry for losing my temper,” Zuko apologized before pinching the bridge of his nose with a tired sigh. “I’m just worried about you.” He leaned to the side a bit, trying to catch her eye again. She shifted in her seat, turning her head further away from him. “What’s wrong? Really?”
Katara shook her head. “I can’t,” she sniffed, her loose hair falling over her shoulder, shielding her face from his scrutinizing gaze. “It’s awful. I’m awful.”
Zuko blinked, surprised by the statement, before brushing it off with an indelicate scoff. “You don’t have a bad bone in your body.”
But Katara just shook her head again, unrelenting.
Zuko sighed once more, taking back his seat next to her. A different approach then.
“I promise you, whatever it is, it’s probably not as awful as you think. I would know,” he added with a self-deprecating chuckle. “I was the prince of awful things for a long time. Had a crown and everything.”
She gave a watery laugh, peeking at him through her dark hair.
“You said it, not me,” she teased weakly.
He rolled his eyes but reached out to take hold of one of her hands. “I’m serious, though. You can tell me anything. We’ve been through some tough spots, right?” He patiently waited until she nodded in agreement then gave her hand a reassuring squeeze. “Okay, then. So, no judgment between us.”
Katara hesitated another moment, her spare hand playing with the pendant on her mother’s necklace in thought.
“I visited a healer while we were in the Northern Water Tribe,” she started slowly, rolling one of the hand-carved beads Aang made for their engagement between her fingers anxiously. “Just for a check-up. I don’t have a lot of healing experience with pregnancy and I just wanted to make sure everything’s going alright, you know?” Zuko nodded along, encouraging her to continue even as trepidation began building in his chest. Where was this going? “And everything’s fine!” she assured, as though she’d sensed his unease, squeezing his hand back with a quiet smile. “Nugget is expected to be on time and everything.”
Zuko couldn’t help the laugh that tumbled past his lips. “Nugget?” he asked.
Katara blushed. “We kinda got tired of just calling them ‘the baby’ so Aang suggested we give them a silly nickname like ‘Nugget’ in the meantime and it just… stuck?”
“Alright. So, Nugget is okay,” Zuko surmised, trying to get them back on topic even as he smiled. “Then what’s the problem?”
Katara looked away again, her grip on his hand tightening. “Apparently, Waterbending healers are able to sense the baby’s chi at this stage of pregnancy,” she explained, her voice suddenly tight. “They can tell if the baby is going to be a bender or not. They can even tell what kind of bender they’ll be.”
He straightened a bit at that, without even realizing. “And?”
“And-.” Katara’s voice broke. “And Nugget is not an Airbender. They’re not a bender, period.”
Zuko felt a twinge of disappointment, though he realized he probably shouldn’t.
“Oh,” he mumbled anyway.
“Yeah, ‘oh’,” Katara agreed bitterly, using her free hand to swipe at her cheek. Zuko hadn’t even realized she was full-on crying now. “We always knew this was a possibility. I’m the first bender in my family in generations and Aang has no idea who his birth parents were so we knew there was a chance. But for it to actually happen…” She trailed off and took a shuddering breath.
Zuko, unable to bear looking at her tear strewn face any longer, pulled his distraught friend into a crushing hug. She fell into him willingly, her fingers curling into his silken robes.
“And all I can think about,” she whispered into his chest, as he traced soothing patterns onto her back like his mother used to do when he was upset, “is all those awful things people said when Aang and I got engaged.” Her hand clenched tighter. “How I wasn’t a suitable mate for the last Airbender? How my Waterbender inheritance would surely compete with his in a world that needs more Airbenders?” she sniffled, though the contempt in her voice was plain as day. “So for them to actually turn out to be right after all these years -” a shuddering breath “-it just really sucks, you know?”
Zuko remembered those early days of their engagement very well. Many of those naysayers had dwelled within the palace at the time – old noblemen who, after years of supporting the War that wiped the Airbenders in the first place, had the absolute nerve to assert that they knew what was best for his friends. He recalled talking deep, vengeful joy in retiring them from their posts as generals and ministers and whatnot and expelling them from the premises. He’d been needing to clean out the remnants of his father’s garbage anyway. What he doesn’t remember, though, was Katara paying any mind to what was being said, even as Aang and Sokka lost their minds over it. She had brushed every nasty word off so easily, like dirt off her shoulder, that Zuko hadn’t really considered the possibility of some making it past her tough exterior.
“I’m sorry you’re going through this,” he murmured into her hair, still drawing delicate circles onto her back. “You’ve never seemed to care before what the rest of the world thought, so I had just assumed -.”
The rest of his sentence was muffled by her thick hair as she shook her head and pulled away. Her blue eyes were rimmed in red when she looked back up at him.
“It’s not me I’m worried about,” she whispered hoarsely, hands falling to cradle her bump protectively. “The world can be such a cruel place. Nugget hasn’t even been born yet and people already have these crazy expectations for them. You heard what they were saying in there. They’ll have to grow up with that burden – something they can’t even control – of being the last Airbender’s non-bender child.”
It was Zuko’s turn to look away. “I know all about not living up to the world’s expectations,” he said. “That was basically my entire childhood.”
A quick inhale. “Oh, Zuko -.”
“It’s okay,” he reassured hastily, not really wanting to go further down that road than strictly necessary. He was better than he used to be, but he still didn’t like to swell. “Sure, it’s hard at times, but when you have the proper support -” Zuko thought of his mother, his uncle, his baby sister, his wife, his friends – “the rest of the world falls away. Bender or not, this kid is going to be so, so loved and that’s what’s going to make them strong. Make them a fighter.” He tightened his grip on their still linked hands, as though that would impress his point into her more. “How can they not with you and Aang as parents?”
Katara bit her lip as she looked back out to the pond. The sun had completely set by now and the turtle ducks had retired for the night. “I suppose.”
Zuko frowned at the uncertainty in her voice. “Have you talked to Aang about any of this?”
She glanced back at him sheepishly. “No, I haven’t,” she admitted. Zuko sighed in exasperation, though he expected that answer. Katara wouldn’t have been nearly as worked up the past few days if she had, he’s sure of it. “I don’t even know what to say,” she continued, her tone now defensive. “He acts like he isn’t bothered by this, but I know a part of him has to be a little disappointed.” She swallowed heavily, her hands running over her stomach soothingly. “I think a part of him really hoped that he wouldn’t be the last Airbender anymore. And it’s still such a sore subject…” She shook her head sadly. “I just don’t know what to say.”
“I know confronting something like this is hard, Katara, but I really think this is a conversation you two need to have. Soon.” Zuko urged. “I know you and Aang are planning on having a few kids -.” Katara made an affronted noise. “Yeah, sorry, Aang told me. All I’m saying is that neither of you need to worry about the bending thing right now. And truthfully, I don’t think he is going to care whether Nugget is a bender or not. Katara, he’s been in love with you since he was twelve. I think he’s so stupidly happy to be having a child with you at all to even begin worrying about anything else.”
Katara huffed out a quiet laugh. “I guess that’s true.”
Well, at least it was something. “Just promise me you’ll think about it?” Zuko pressed. “The sooner you talk to him the better. Save me a teacup or two as well.”
Katara laughed for real this time, nice and loud. “Yeah, okay.”
Zuko nodded. “Good.”
“When did you get so good at this?” she asked, swiping at her eyes to brush away any remaining tears.
“I have no idea. I guess Uncle’s wisdom has finally begun to rub off on me.”
“Apparently. About time too.”
“You’re telling me.”
“Speaking of wisdom,” Katara said, with a sly smile. “You need to hear about the training regimen Sokka is planning for Nugget.”
Zuko blinked. “He’s planning a what?”
“You heard me. He’s commissioned a boomerang and everything,” Katara snickered. “He’s even looking for another meteor to make ‘Space Sword Two-Point-O’.”
“You’re kidding.”
“Nope. Sokka says Nugget will need a ‘legendary sword’ to go with the ‘legendary training program’ he’s devising.”
“He said what?”
They carry on like that for a while, talking about baby-related plans for the future. Zuko was making what he thought was a truly inspired case for his own sword expertise and possible training ability – “I use dual swords!” he told the baby, his hands shaking where they rested on Katara’s stomach as she laughed. “That’s two swords!” – when he felt something firm press against his hand. His head snapped up.
“Was that-?”
“Yup,” Katara confirmed with a quiet laugh. “That was a big one too. They must like you.”
It’s a silly notion, but it warmed Zuko anyway. “I’ll take that to mean you want the dual swords,” Zuko said to the baby bump, gently pressing his hand back against what felt like a foot, “and not your Uncle’s stupid one sword. Smart choice.”
Another kick struck his hand. A hard one. So hard, even Katara winced. She was quick to wave away Zuko’s concern though.
“It’s fine,” she said. “They’re already pretty active in the evening, so they’re just extra excited you’re talking to them.”
Zuko relinquished, still a bit uncertain; bit if Katara said it was okay, that was good enough for him. For now. He turned back to the bump instead as yet another kick pressed against his hand. It was almost like they were aiming for him.
“Look at that,” Zuko chuckled, pressing back gently once more. The pressure lingered against his hand. “Looks like they’re already a fighter.”

30 Day OC Challenge Day 2: Job/Occupation
Irah begins officially working with the RCPD at eighteen years old, although she’s had experience unofficially working cases for a couple years before. Mako has the tendency to bring work home with him, and Irah is incredibly nosy, which means he’ll end up explaining everything going on, and Irah offering some insight that may or may not work out
eventually, she does become chief of police like her father before her, dismantling the gangs within the city, and managing to wrangle a reform that her predecessors had only managed to begin

Not matter how long it takes, you are always worth the wait
Summary:
Mobius is on a mission and Loki is waiting for his return. As he worries about his lover, he remembers the beginning of their relationship.
New 30 days OTP challenge Day 2: Waiting for the other
Notes:
I wanted to make Loki worry about Mobius for once.. https://archiveofourown.org/works/35169742 1424 words - Rating G
Tumblr media
"Mobius... You're late..." whispered Lok, who looked desperately at the door from the couch before continuing to read, without really paying attention, one of the many jetski magazines Mobius left lying around. His lover might have been the tidier of the two, but that didn't stop him from scattering his precious magazines all over their house, even in the restroom.
Tonight, Loki couldn't concentrate on his reading because he was worried about Mobius' late return.
It was the first time since they parted ways at the time door in The Void that he and Mobius had gone on different field missions. Usually, either Loki would leave and Mobius would stay behind for more administrative duties at the TVA or they would go on the same mission together.
Loki wasn't worried about Mobius's skills, but he had this feeling of insecurity, like when he had seen the time door close on his lover that day. He closed his eyes and sighed.
"There's no point in rehashing all this, after all he's with a qualified team. I'd better start preparing dinner."
Loki stood up and headed to the kitchen, hoping that keeping busy would keep his mind busy as well.
But how could he not think of the one who was the center of his life, when everything in their house reminded him of Mobius. On the sink's bench, there were the dishes from the morning's breakfast, two cups, two plates... everything in pairs.
Their history was not old, especially considering Loki's age, and yet Loki could not remember a life without Mobius.
Honestly, he didn't want to remember it. Because life with Mobius was also a life where he had been able to repair his relationship with his brother and with his mother, a life where he finally had started to see the real purpose of his life, his real aspirations, and a life where he tried as best he could to make amends, even though he knew that some of the things he had done would be hard to erase. But Mobius had also taught him to live with that.
Loki, who was cooking pasta for the dinner, smiled as he thought about their very first meeting. The way he himself had been defensive, inwardly mocking the man he thought was insignificant and stupid, while the man in question looked at him with that straightforward gaze and that smile that had quickly made Loki realize that the man was to be taken seriously.
As he heated the tomato sauce next to the pasta, stirring regularly so that it wouldn't attach to the bottom of the pan, he wondered when he had been sure that what he felt for Mobius was much deeper than he had first thought?
Loki knew exactly when, what words.
You could be anything you want, even someone good.
Someone good.
Mobius had made him see what apparently Thor and Frigga had always seen in him. What Loki had never believed in, biased because of Odin's lies and intransigence.
Loki turned off the fire under the two pots and took out a sieve to drain the pasta. He looked up at the wall clock and sighed as he saw the time.
Thinking about their relationship made Loki want Mobius around even more.
He finished preparing the meal, set the table for two and sat at the kitchen counter, chin in his hands, avoiding looking at the clock.
His eyes fell on the post-it notes that covered the fridge.
Since the first one stuck a few months ago, there were plenty of them that had been added in all colors, neither of the two men deciding to throw away the older ones.
Little bits of conversations. Little bits of life. Little bits of their love.
-Loki! Stop stealing my chocolate mousse!
-Why should I?
-Because I love it!
-More than me?
-Idiot! (Of course not)
-Skip the gym and I'll help you burn off some energy when you get home tonight. L.
-I choose you over my chocolate mousse... but you can leave me a bowl at least. M.
-Cleaned the dirty laundry. Washed the dirty dishes. Mopped the dirty floors. -Scrubbed the dirty toilet. Now talk dirty to me. L
-Loki did you google the cheesiest phrase again?
-Busted !
-I'll show you how I can talk dirty... M.
Then the last post-it note from a few days ago that Loki had secretly taken a picture of and saved in his phone. Mobius had stuck it on his breakfast cup one morning when he had left for work earlier than Loki.
Good morning sweetheart.
Sorry I'm not here on the morning of our one month anniversary together, but I wanted to mark the occasion by just telling you that I'm glad you came into my life, that you're the chaotic one that puts my life upside down.
I love you.
Signed: your prince ;-)
PS : I know I am a real sap ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Loki's throat tightened a little as he thought of this happiness that he had long thought improbable, and he could not start eating. He covered both pots and pans and went to take a shower, got ready for the night and went to bed hoping that when he woke up Mobius would be there. He couldn't help but hug Mobius' pillow and fell asleep to the reassuring smell of his lover, for lack of having him in his arms for real.
Loki woke up when he heard the keys turning in the lock.
At that moment, Loki didn't care if he looked ridiculous, pathetic, hopelessly in love, but the relief of knowing that Mobius was back and the urgency of seeing and touching him overrode all pretenses. Not caring that he was wearing only a pair of boxer briefs, he ran and almost slipped to the entrance where Mobius was hanging up his coat and removing his shoes.
Mobius turned around when he heard Loki's quick steps and had only time to open his arms to catch his lover.
Mobius gave a small laugh as he closed his arms around Loki.
He whispered into the black curls, "Loki... Sweetheart, I'm sorry I'm late."
Loki raised his head and replied, "You're right to be sorry, I was really worried!"
Though his smile belied his scolding pout as he hugged Mobius again.
"You make me want to be late more often, if it means I get a welcome like this." joked Mobius.
Loki stepped back a little and pointing his finger at Mobius' chest he said, "Oh no, no way! I don't want to worry like that again, even if you were well surrounded, the next time you go on a mission it's with me."
Mobius kissed his nose and replied, "At least you have some idea of how I worry when you go on a mission of your own."
"Huh?"
"What huh? I'm not allowed to worry about you?" retorted Mobius at Loki's surprise.
"That's something I never thought about, actually."
Loki seemed to think it over and then said mischievously, "After all, I am a god, what do you expect to happen to me?"
"Do you really want to watch the movie of your life?" asked Mobius seriously.
Loki knew to stop joking as he realized that Mobius' anxieties were just as real as his had been tonight.
He simply kissed him gently to end the debate. After all, they loved each other, so it was only natural that they should worry about each other.
Mobius stepped back a little and said, "Anyway, sorry for being late. It just took us longer than expected but everything went smoothly." He pushed a strand of black hair back behind Loki's ear. He continued, "But now I'm home.".
Loki replied softly, "Welcome home."
For a moment, the two men just savored the pleasure of being in each other's presence. Alternating between long hugs and kisses, no rush, just happy to be together.
Then Mobius sniffed and said, "I can seem to smell the delicious aroma of warmed tomato sauce."
"Hm, I don't know." replied Loki, in a playful tone, "I had dinner ready for my lover, but he never came, so it's cold now. I had to go to bed alone, in a big cold bed, like a poor soul in pain, a poor princess abandoned by her prince charming and-"
Loki was unable to continue his rant, as his prince charming set out to show him that he had not abandoned his princess. He never did and he never will.
__________
As always, bear with me as it is not beta'd and english is not my native language I hope you enjoyed it nonetheless🥰

15, 18, 19, & 30 for author asks. Merry Christmas/Christmas Eve if you celebrate, and if not I just hope you are having a lovely day!
Thank you! And hope you have a wonderful holiday if you celebrate as well.
15. A Hollywood producer tells you that they want to film just one of your fics. Which fic would you want it to be?
Either Elusive Spirits (LoK) or Amor Est Vita (HP) just because they have the most potential, although I would probably allow for some directorial changes.
18. What is a line/scene you’re really proud of? Give us the DVD commentary for that scene.
I would say the interaction between Leonard McCoy and Spock Prime in the bridge in Different Lifetimes. I just think there was so much emotion for people who don't normally get super emotional. And it is in character and I love it.
19. Who is the easiest/hardest character for you to write about? Why?
Minerva McGonagall is the easiest for me. Probably because I've been writing her the longest at this point. And I understand her motives and thoughts.
There are a lot of characters that are a challenge for me to write, but I think one of the hardest had to be when I was writing Korra. I have a hard time understanding her sometimes.
30. Tell us an idea for a longfic you want to write in the future.
There are three that I have been wanting to write for a long time. One of them is a Minerva-centric fic where her husband doesn't die and it's perspective on the seven years of Harry's time at Hogwarts. The second is a Star Wars fic that takes place after TLJ and Amilyn Holdo survives. The third is a rather angsty Game of Thrones fic that @laviedeviv has been helping me with.

Hello Lovelies! I know I have been kind of MIA recently other than responding to asks, but I hit this pretty fantastic milestone of 1.3k followers and have been wanting to do a writing challenge for some time! (I’ve had my prompts written for about a month, but I wanted to post it when I was getting less busy)
I cannot thank you all enough for the continued support and love on here. I appreciate every single one of you <3 I hope to get back into writing soon, but until then, I think I can fill myself with reading for submissions to my writing challenge!
With the holidays coming up and my love for the Christmas season, I’m giving my challenge that type of theme, but do not feel obligated to use a holiday theme for your writing :)
So let’s get to it!
RULES:
When you finish, please tag me [ @kalimagik ] and tag #maggieswinterwritingchallenge
Please reblog to increase its reach and participation
If you write more that 1k, please use the “Read More” or “Keep Reading” function
The Usual: Two prompts per person and no more than 2 people per prompt!
For Tropes and Winter Holiday Scenarios, no more than two people for those either and try to only take one if you use them (You can do this in addition to prompts if you’d like!) - Of course, you can utilize a trope in your work even if you don’t claim it, I don’t mind!
Send me an ask with your chosen prompts, scenarios, or tropes, as well as the character you wish to use.
Can be Character X Reader or Character x Character - it doesn’t matter
I primarily write for the Harry Potter fandom, but if you would like to write for Marvel or ATLA or LOK, I will most likely read those because I’m obsessed with both of those universes as well!
If you would like to choose a Winter Holiday Scenario, but do not see a tradition or holiday that you celebrate, please let me know and I will add it! I would love to see everyone’s traditions, but I do not know all of them, so please share them with us all <3
NO SMUT PLEASE! I just haven’t been in much of a smut mood, so I would like to keep this happy and for everyone!
NO INCEST OR TEACHER/STUDENT RELATIONSHIPS PLEASE! If you write one, I will most likely read it, but I will NOT be reblogging it.
If you have any triggers at all, please make sure to use them so everyone knows what to expect.
There is currently no end date for this!

Post them on Archive of Our Own so the work can be put into the collections. Do not cross post until a minimum of 1 month (30 days, yes I know Feb only has 28 but bare with me)
Serial Posting (updating sporadically rather than all at once) is allowed However, please have it fully posted within seven days of your posting date.
You may register as an author, an artist, AND a beta if you so choose. But, you may not create art for or beta your own fic
Literally everything is game storywise as long as you tag it accordingly when posting on AO3 and when submitting for Art Claims.
The main ship must be Zukka (Sokka/Zuko) But other side pairings are allowed (ie. Sokka/Suki, Zuko/Mai, Zuko/Jet. Sokka/Yue etc.) But, Zukka must be the endgame pairing. If you are writing a polyamorus relationship (ie Sokka/Suki/Zuko) you must tag it accordingly and still have the focus be on the relationship between Sokka and Zuko (I'm sorry queen, I love you so much Suki I swear I just needed some sort of rule on this)
Beta Readers ARE REQUIRED However, they don't need to be someone who signed up as a beta for the Zukka Big Bang. Any beta will do just fine.
TRIGGER WARNING: DISCUSSION OF UNDERAGE SEX If you plan on writing underage sexual relations THEY CAN NOT BE ANY YOUNGER THAN 16. Also, tag accordingly no matter what. If your story involves sexual abuse to a minor, tag accordingly and don't explain the event graphically.
Artist Requirements
How much per word count Mini Bang: 1 piece of art or 10 second video edit Big Bang: 2 pieces of art or 20 second video edit Mega Bang: 3 pieces of art or 30 second video edit
Artists may make word breaks/separators and a banner representing the teams story but it won't count as the minimum pictures.
All art of any medium is allowed (except a simple collage). If you want to do a lyrical dance, then by god do a lyrical dance. I mean it. Go wild. As long as it fits the minimum
If you are doing photo manipulation, it must be more than a filter put over a screenshot from ATLA/LOK. Bringing back to the simple collage point, you are welcome to make them HOWEVER they need to be your own photography if you plan on that being your only piece. Anything else would be at worst stealing others work, you know? You are welcome to do them, but it will not count as your minimum
If there is an emergency and you need to drop after you've already claimed a fic, notify your author and the mod IMMEDIATELY so a pinch hitter can be arranged. Don't bite off more than you can chew
Where the art is hosted, is the artists choice. Twitter, Tumblr, AO3, all of the above is allowed. But please do not put it behind a paywall. Hosting on patreon is allowed but it must be visible to all (if it's an nsfw work I suggest twitter for the sake of monitoring or AO3 for the sake of tagging)
You may register as an artist, an author, AND a beta if you so choose. But, you may not create art for or beta your own fic

Day 12
30 day writing challenge
Day 12: favorite tv show
this ain’t poetic at all. my favorite tv show since i was like 14 has been Futurama.
solid fuckin’ show, and let’s talk about why.
underrated as hell. like, popular enough that there’s fun merch and obscure enough that it doesn’t get annoying
the protagonist is a dumbass (like most protagonists are) but like they play off it so well and don’t pretend that he isn’t stupid as hell
the show invented and used a REAL MATHEMATICAL THEORY for the body swapping episode and it was incredible
the creators of the show hold STEM PhDs and i have so much respect for that (also means that they reference real things in the scientific world)
people from the future are just as stupid as people now. we love consistency.
the tearjerker episodes are honest tearjerkers. i never cry, and i did for like 3 episodes. love to see it.
it died...and then came back (and then they made fun of fox for cancelling them in their comeback episode lmao)
the title opener. always amazing catchphrases.
the show isn’t for anyone. which is why when i find another futurama lover, we are officially best friends. them’s the rules.
honorable mentions: It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, ATLA, LoK, HQ, FMA:B, Kekkai Sensen.
