Lancelot, Guinevere, and Arthur are truly the love triangle of all time. Lancelot and Guinevere start as rivals for King Arthur’s attention before falling in love with each other instead. Lancelot is bisexual and has crippling religious guilt. Guinevere feels trapped by medieval gender roles and loves romance. Arthur is ok with them being together but is forced to act against them due to the expectations of being king. (Which he never wanted to be to begin with) Lancelot and Guinevere’s love makes them better. Their love brings down an entire kingdom. Lancelot loves Arthur and Guinevere. Guinevere loves Lancelot and Arthur. Arthur loves Guinevere and Lancelot. Merlin warned Arthur but nothing could prevent it from happening. Truly the most doomed by the narrative characters.
God they make me feel things.

Arthur starts out as an insufferable spoiled brat who falls madly in love with his mouthy servant. So madly in love that he risks his life time and again to save Merlin. Thankfully, Merlin’s an oblivious idiot. Unfortunately, the people around him are not. So while Merlin doesn’t notice that Arthur’s so in love with him he can’t function, everyone else is like “he’s so in love with you, he’d die for you” and Merlin’s like “nah, he’d do that for anyone. He’s just like that.”
And now, sweating bullets, Arthur has to start risking his life for peasants and anyone in danger like he’s truly noble, or Merlin’s gonna figure out that he’s in love with him.
Literally, Arthur experienced so much character growth to keep himself in that closet when he could of just said, “Nope, it’s you Merlin. I don’t give a flying fuck about anyone else.”

“The people believe in you Arthur, but it counts for nothing if you don’t believe in yourself” — Merlin
“Merlin should take some of the credit, turns out he’s not always entirely stupid.” — Arthur

thinking about. how merlin brings out the best in arthur and on the other hand arthur brings out the darkest parts of merlin. how arthur always tries to be better and do the right thing because merlin believes in him and he wouldn't want to disappoint him. because he believes merlin is good and he wants to be good for him. how merlin always ends up making the worst decision in his desire to protect arthur, doing things he never thought he'd do. how from saving arthur's life because that's a right thing to do, he goes to putting his life above any of his own morals.
