flashcards
flashcards are a study tool that aids in memorization. they typically consist of a card bearing information on both sides, with a question or definition on one side and the answer or term on the other. flashcards can be used for various subjects, such as vocabulary, historical dates or formulae, and are effective because they involve active learning through self-testing and spaced repetition. they can be created physically with paper and pen or digitally using software.
here are some tips to create flashcards that are effective and engaging:
phrase your flashcards as questions: instead of simply writing a term or concept, phrase it as a question. this encourages active recall, which is more effective for memory retention.
use the specification: refer to your exam boards specification or past exam papers to ensure your flashcards cover the necessary material and help with exam technique.
one idea, one flashcard: keep your flashcards simple. each should contain one question and one answer. this makes it easier for your brain to process and remember the information.
engaging questions: write questions that are interesting and thought-provoking. avoid one-word answers; instead, aim for answers that make you think about the topic in depth.
regular review: use your flashcards regularly and shuff them often to avoid simply memorizing the order. spaced repetition is the key to long-term retention.
personally, i don't enjoy using flashcards so i'd like to add that everyone is very different and we all learn and enjoy various things. what works for someone online may not work for you. you just have to try and find out.
i hope you find the post helpful.

Tips for understanding complex topics
I've struggled with this but I'm adapting, you know? So here are some of my tips I use for this :)
If you can't understand it at once, do not think that it is hard
Many times, the topic itself if simple but the way the textbook has described it is complex so go and search for related videos and Google about it until you've got a hint about what it is.
If it's complicated, divide the sentence.
When you find yourself getting completely lost in a topic while banging your head against the wall because it's so confusing.... separate each part of the sentence while you write each part as you say it out loud. It'll help you to atleast get a short idea about the subject.
Read! Read! Read!
Read it over and over again and underline the words you think are important, write them down, explain it to yourself, draw small diagrams around your notes, connect them through visual representation. The more you use different types of senses, the better you understand it.
Give yourself time.
Let yourself grasp what the whole topic is about, do not under any circumstances have a time limit for difficult topics. I took days just to understand how Javascript loops work and I'm still not fully clear about it but i can explain the general, very basic purpose of it.
Explain it to someone or yourself
The best way to learn is to teach, this actually does work. It helps you to put your understanding in words and clear any underlying questions. And lastly...
Handwritten notes!
I cannot stress this enough but things that you've written down generally stay in your memory for longer durations. I also prefer handwritten notes to digital ones cause personally it works better.
Hope this helps! :D

Day 8/100 days of Productivity
9th April, 2024
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Academia
Did my basic math revision sheet. Got all those things right which I used to get wrong, but got those wrong which were right in past revisions. 🤦🏻‍♀️
I did 98 questions of Chemical Coordination and 77 of them were correct and 21 of them were incorrect.
I really like such quality short videos which are rare on the Indian science stream scene when all I see is 40 minute long lectures for simple short topics😭😭. I watched this video on law of definite proportions. (Fun fact: this law states that any chemical compound will have the same ratio of mass of the elements wherever you find them.)
Did the next 30% of ncert line by line video on Chemical Coordination with my NCERT textbook.
Made a revision sheet for Mole concept and did some questions.
Watched a video to get clearer on calcium homeostasis.
My goal for this week is to complete 10 Chapters of Chemistry and atleast 15 Chapters of Biology. And Physics lectures daily.
Non Academia
Watched this video on thinking errors that we all have and its based on Thinking Fast and Slow by David Kahneman. I should read that book. What's fascinating is that I saw an article a few days ago where David Kahneman says that he failed to follow his own advice.
This video essay on Machiavelli where the narrator said that its dangerous to subscriber to Machiavellian ideas but its also dangerous to completely ignore them. Which is so true and so wonderful. Overall, it is a very beautiful introduction to who was Machiavelli and what his ideas originally were.

Today is the first day of Nau Devi (नवरात्रि). Today is Goddess Shailputri's day. Shailputri (शैलपुत्री) is the daughter of the mountains. We keep a fast on the 9 days but since it's exam time, I'll only be keeping a fast on 1st and last day. Also, it's my first time keeping a fast during Nau Devi. | Good day, it was. Very peaceful. Nowadays bhakti has been bringing me so much peace. I got up earlier today and took a bath before 7 am, which is new for me. And I'd be doing this for the next 8 days, hopefully forming a habit. I feel cleansed.

Study Tip #1
The one study tip which helped me a lot was to collect all the study materials in different coloured files throughout the semester so that I don't have to squabble around for notes.

How to put in deep focus hours?
Hi beautiful people of studyblr,
I would like to ask your advice on something that has been bothering me. I realized that I do struggle with getting deep focus hours for my projects - life just comes in a lot.
So I wanted to ask how you go about finding/planning focusing/studying hours? (especially if you currently have a busy season and need to study a lot. )
Would be very grateful for some advice/techniques and hope my shout in the void gets read. :D

felt nostalgic, so take this pic that encompasses my entire school life lmao
#really long rambling bc i probably woke up on the wrong side of the bed or something this morning. you’ve been warned—#ngl i’ve never really had any friends since the start of my pathetic life?#and like even if i did get friends, they’d ditch me the first chance they get lmaooooo#i could befriend 2 people independently of each other, only for the two of them to ✨somehow✨ become besties and ditch me… or something#tbh though i’m 10000% okay with being friendless and left alone. i’m more productive when i’m alone!!!#it just gets really annoying when teachers go ‘lol pair up with someone your size (for sports)’ or ‘form your own groups for a project’#bc more often than not,i was the only one who was completely left out of a group lmao#like even the dude ‘leftovers’ would already start moving to group up with each other. it’s just me who’s left out#and the teacher would absolutely refuse to let me do the project by myself >:( and i’d get forced into the leftovers group anyway lol#and it’s not just teachers!! the senior student group leaders during orientation weeks refuse to let me be alone too!! >:((((#i’d just be vibing by myself and the group leaders would sidle up to me and talk to me. like?? why?? there are other loners over there too??#they’d allow the dude loners to remain in peaceful solitude but not me?? it’s not fair!! >:(((#ughhh that reminds me that there was also this guy classmate who refused to leave me alone for some reason#by ‘some reason’ i mean ‘i think he liked me but i can’t be sure bc he was really weird about it???’#like i literally ignored him for over a month and he still tried to get my attention for some reason.#and after that,i’d resorted to telling him ‘dude go away’ and he’d leave for like 1 min, only to return almost immediately ಠ‿ಠ#fun fact: the silent treatment technique never ever works. tried, tested, and failed#but anyway yeah. the pic with arisa was literally me in phys ed class lol#being the only friendless 🐓-less loser in a class with 30 dudes and 11 girls (in total) was fun!#the other girls would pair up with each other and i’d just rot in the corner and write bad fanfics in my mind lol#the only times when i could get a pair were when a single girl was absent for the day lmao#the fact that there were 11 girls made forming groups of 5 for ball games really annoying too.#the other 10 like-biologically gendered people would just split up into 5/5 groups and the leftover’d be me#not that i actually wanted to play or anything. i’d just go ‘i’ll observe as a reserve player from the side!!!’ and it’d work lol#but anyways… yeah. i personally don’t find friendships that necessary to succeed in life? casual acquaintances are good enough for me ig#maybe it was a sign when my friends from my former friend group were making jokes about how i was friendless lmao#i wish i could just completely isolate myself for an entire day… wait no make that an entire week#no texting,no social interactions,✨no worries✨. just me,my cup noodles, and my ✨productivity✨!!!!!!#well! i’m sorry if you actually read all of that… i just needed to get it all off my chest before i erupted like a shaken bottle of soda lol#inedible blubbering

Study Tip #1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
How to remember stuff for a long period of time?
Firstly, you should know that our brain is very adept at forgetting things it doesn't consider necessary for its survival and it fails to understand that excelling our exams are veryyyy important for our survival.
So, what you need is revision of your subject matter over and over again, over a period of time.
How to achieve that though?
Flashcards are often used for achieving this technique but to be honest, for a very vast syllabus Flashcards get quite overwhelming. So I created REVISION SHEETS for myself. It's the same thing as flashcards but it encompasses a few other techniques that makes the vastness of the topics a little easy to control and comprehend.
I make them two ways: one is completely random, with information important to remember but from various different topics. And another is by making mindmaps.
And in both of these things, I add information in QnA format. Easy.
Step by Step guide to revision sheets:
Firstly, I'd advise you to read/understand a chapter/topic through a lecture, a youtube video or a textbook. Atleast have a basic understanding of the concepts.
Check the major headings or the major sub-topics.
Start plotting the mindmap roughly, by Sub-topics and how and where you'll put them for better understanding.
Now, when you're writing content, put it all in QnA format, especially HOW you want you remember the information.
There, done.
Just make sure to use that sheet to revision at good intervals of time.
You can, of course, make changes to this process. But this is what I've done for my revision work.

[Also, I am not sure if someone else might not have already thought of this idea. Though, I don't think such study tips have any copyright but I'm just putting out there that if it resembles something that others have used/talk about online, then it's because we both thought of the same thing. And you'll too probably to solve your study problems. So all the best, let's all work hard and find our happiness.]

I've made a mental note that when I get a teaching job I'm going to cater to students suspicions--as in, if someone confides in me that they think they have ADHD and their parents think they're faking it or something, what's wrong with giving them working conditions that caters to the possibility of ADHD? If they don't have it, great, no harm done. If they do, congrats, I just helped to make their education more accessible. And if I do nothing and they do have it, I'm making it harder for them. Teachers, take notes! This would have helped me so much as a teenager navigating a complex and tiring working environment when everything I had was undiagnosed and just my suspicion.

College Tip #1
One of the things I found especially useful in college was to voluntarily start signing up for internships in the areas which I wanted to explore. So, by the time I complete my master's I would have an idea as to which field I want to specialize in.
