Dreamy stuff as Gaeilge
Tumblr media
This vocab list is entirely based on this one created by @svensklangblr, so credits to her for such wonderful idea!
draíocht - magic draíochta - magical as in realting to magic e.g., magical spell draíochtach/draíochtúil - magical as in wonderful e.g., magical atmosphere
síbhean/nimfeach - nymph murúch - mermaid sióg - fairy
In Irish (or Celtic in general) mythology there are also magical creatures called aos sí. They are commonly said to be either descendant of the deities Tuatha Dé Danann or to be deities themselves. Here’s a wiki article on this matter.
ealaín dhubh - black magic oíche - night tráthnóna - evening maidin - morning éirí na gréine - sunrise dul faoi na gréine/lúi na gréine - sunset
There’s a bunch of words to describe dawn in Irish. You can either use éirí na gréine or say one of the following:
éirí gréine - dawn breacadh an lae - dawn camhaoir - dawn
Same thing goes for dusk, all of the words below have the same meaning:
clapsholas - dusk titim na hoíche - dusk coineascar - dusk contráht - dusk

Dreamy stuff in Danish
Tumblr media
This was requested by an anonymous person and is entirely based on this incredible list originally created by @svensklangblr.
This is actually right up my alley, and I am very seriously considering making another list with more words like these.
As per usual, bolded words are Danish, italics are English, and regular font is anything grammar related, examples et cetera.
"fk." indicates common gender (fælleskøn, utrum, "en") nouns and "itk." indicates neuter (intetkøn, neutrum, "et") nouns.
All adjectives are declined for common gender nouns.
Please don't hesitate to send an ask or a dm if you have any questions, additions, or the like!
magi, fk. – magic
magisk – magical
fe, fk. · alf, fk. – fairy
Alfer are usually smaller than feer and are not necessarily winged like the "traditional" fairy; they can be more like the traditional Danish folk creatures nisser, but that's a completely different subject.
nymfe, fk. – nymph
sort magi – black magic
tåge, fk. · dis, fk. – fog
Unlike tåge, which is for all kinds of fog, dis is usually only used about the kind of very low lying fog that sometimes appears in the morning.
solnedgang, fk. – sunset
solopgang, fk. – sunrise
daggry, itk. · dæmring, fk. – dawn
skumring, fk. · mørkning, fk. (uncommon) · aftendæmring, fk. (uncommon) – dusk
drøm, fk. – dream
at drømme – to dream
dagdrøm, fk. – daydream
stjerne, fk. – star
måne, fk. – moon
himmel, fk. – sky
sky, fk. – cloud
smuk – beautiful
sne, fk. – snow
snefnug, itk. – snowflake
forgyldt – gilded
gylden – golden
stille · rolig – calm
æterisk – ethereal
skønhed, fk. – beauty
kærlighed, fk. – love
elsker(inde), fk. (-inde for women) – lover
nat, fk. – night
morgen, fk. – morning
aften, fk. – evening
blomst, fk. – flower
lys, itk. – light
poesi, fk. – poetry
havfrue, fk. – mermaid
digter, fk. · poet, fk. – poet
skov, fk. – forest
urskov, fk. – old-growth forest
fuldmåne, fk. – full moon
maleri, itk. – painting
ugle, fk. – owl
svale, fk. – swallow
lærke, fk. – lark
dompap, fk. – bullfinch*
vipstjert, fk. – wagtail*
los, fk. – lynx
skygge, fk. – shadow
ørn, fk. – eagle
hvirvelvind, fk. – whirlwind
flod, fk · å, fk. · elv, fk. (mostly in context with Sweden or Norway) – river
In Danish, we are very particular about distinguishing our running bodies of water by size and å is a small river. Denmark's largest river, which can almost be considered a flod, is "Gudenåen". You would never call a river in Denmark elv, as it is usually associated with mountainous landscapes, but you would if it was in another Nordic country.
sommer, fk. – summer
forår, itk. · vår, fk. (archaic, poetic) – spring
efterår, itk. · høst, fk. (archaic, poetic) – autumn
vinter, fk. – winter
slot, itk. – castle
at læse – to read
sang, fk. – song
at synge – to sing
orkester, itk. – orchestra
musik, fk. – music
hav, itk. – sea · ocean
*Swedish "domherre" which I have double checked is actually a bullfinch was translated as wagtail, so I decided to just include both birds. To avoid any leftover confusion, the birds in question are pyrrhula pyrrhula and motcilla alba, respectively.

🧿 Langblr/Lingblr Intro 🧿
Hello! Holà! Bonjour ! Hallå! Ciao!
My name is Z.R. (you can call me that or Noa), and I’m a uni student studying to hopefully become a language teacher and/or translator.
About the blog
So I have been studying French for several years and am near-fluency. I’ve also started Swedish as of last month and hope to be able to start Italian by summer. I also really love Gaeilge (Irish) right now so I might post about that here and there even though I’m not studying it. I am also very passionate about linguistics.
My Goals for 2021 🧿
I want to reach C1/C2 in French by the end of the summer. If not, then by the end of the year.
I want to reach B1 in Swedish by May/June and B2 by the end of the year. Edit: i paused my swedish studies to prioritise Italian
I want to start Italian in May/June and reach B2 by the end of the year. Edit: i want to reach B1 by the end of August
French is and has always been my priority- it’s my preferred language, honestly.
Langblrs and Litblrs I love (so far)
Several blogs have that helped me and inspired me to start my own!
@frenchy-french, @nordic-language-love, @fluencylevelfrench, @svensklangblr, @svenskaforlivet, @svenskalangblr, @ana-actually, @balloons-and-shadows, @languagessi

Slowing down conversation in danish 🇩🇰
Inspired by @svensklangblr, who made a post like this for Swedish, so here is the same but with different spelling ;)
(en) Samtale - conversation
(en) Sætning - sentence
(et) Ord - word
Undskyld? - excuse me?
Hvad? - what?
Hvad sagde du? - what did you say?
Jeg gik (lige) glip af det - i missed that
Jeg hørte ikke (lige) det sidste - i didn’t hear that last part
Vil du ikke (lige) gentage det? / Kan du ikke (lige) sige det igen? - could you repeat that
Kan du ikke snakke lidt langsommere ? - could you speak a bit more slowly?
Vil du (ikke) være sød at snakke lidt langsommere? - would you kindly/please speak a bit more slowly
Kan vi (ikke) snakke engelsk i stedet (for)? - could we speak english instead?
Hva’ - huh (or a similar sound as huh, will also do)
Hvad er det? - what’s that?
Hvad betyder det? - what does that mean?
Jeg forstod ikke (lige) det ord - i didn’t understand that word
Jeg forstår ikke (helt) hvad (det er) du siger - I don’t (fully) understand what (it is) you’re saying
Jeg ved ikke (lige) hvad det betyder - I don’t know what that means
Hvad mener du? - what do you mean?
Hvordan siger man ... på dansk? - How do you say ... in Danish?
Hvad er ... på dansk? - What is ... in Danish?
Hvordan udtaler man det her? - how do you pronounce this?
Kan du (ikke lige/ikke/lige) forklare dette/det her? - can you explain this?
Tak / Mange tak - thank you
Venligst (kunne du venligst...) - please/ kindly (polite and a bit formal)
The “lige” and “ikke” in parenthesis are a suggestion to make the sentence a little more informal/casual and is just how I felt I might say it.
So I’m a native Danish speaker, and this is just how I feel that I would talk.. Hope this was a bit helpfull, and if you have any further questions or suggestion just send me a message! :))

In Swedish we don’t say “raccoon” we say “tvättbjörn (/ˈtvɛtˌbjøːrn/)” which literally translates to “wash bear” or “washing bear” and it makes me wonder if the person who named it had ever actually seen a raccoon before.
