Buck & Eddie: They're Soulmates!
Tumblr media
Buck and Eddie share a once in a lifetime love of each other's lives type of love that transcends space and time.
Tumblr media
The love they share is not platonic, it's romantic and the natural chemistry they have is OFF THE CHARTS.
Tumblr media
There are people who wish they could have one tenth of the love they share with each other and that's why over the years, the show has made it a point to highlight and compare their love interests against the other one as a way to prove Buck and Eddie are meant for each other.
Therefore, can it once and for all be acknowledged that the possible reason why NONE of Buck’s previous relationships with AC, AM, TK and ND never worked was because THEY WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO?
The same goes for Eddie because NONE of his relationships ever worked either including the one he had with Chris' mother. SD, AF and now M (who the show still hasn't given a last name and that speaks volumes as to how long she'll possibly be around) didn’t or won't work for Eddie because THEY WEREN'T/AREN'T SUPPOSED TOO EITHER?
It's interesting to see all these takes on how some people view their previous relationships with those women through rose colored glasses and saying things like they could have been great if... (_______ fill in the blank with whatever randomness you'd like). The point is they weren't meant to be anything but a placeholder until Buddie goes CANON.
Buck
There have been so many takes on Buck and TK being perfect because they were cute together but did everyone who thinks that forget she was willing to throw the 118 and their captain under the bus in 2x6? Don't even try to rebutt it with logic from that fake redemption arc that was included in 5x7 for her because in 5x17 she ultimately accomplished her goal by doing exactly what she intended four years earlier when she broke a promise she made to Buck and ran with the Jonah story then wrote a raggedy book about it exactly one year later in 6x17. It's true that Buck knew who she was but he still dated her (which speaks more to his poor decision making than hers) but they both knew it was wrong from the start. They were never going to work and they were never FRIENDS. Friends don't treat each other like $hit so they can get their way then expect for you to just be ok with it and follow it up with a half @ssed apology like, "I'm sorry you're still upset about the story" 🙄. With friends like that, Buck doesn't need enemies.
AC literally ABANDONED him but there are still people who think she would have been good for him. It appears they forgot she FOUND a man with two kids in another country and in 3x18 she came back two years later to rub Buck’s face in it. She didn't even have the decency to apologize to him.
AM was the worst of all because SHE WAS NEVER THERE WHEN BUCK NEEDED HER. Was she nice, yes but she didn't know him at all and when his leg got crushed by the ladder truck in 2x18, she dipped and ABANDONED him too. But for some reason, she's being heralded as his best relationship ever which is so far from the truth it's funny sad not funny haha. She left him in his loft with a cast on his leg because she didn't know what she wanted.
ND was/is only interested in Buck because he DIED! THAT'S IT! There's nothing else to the story. She clearly COULDN'T SEE HIM because they only knew each other for two seconds so please stop romanticizing their hookup like it was some "Gone with the Wind" love story because that's a bunch of BS since they didn't and still don't know each other.
Eddie
SD was NOT the perfect wife and mother people who wanted her to stick around and coparent Chris with Eddie have made her out to be. The show clearly retconned her character in 6x15 like she was so young and she didn't deserve to die but be clear, the relationship she had with Eddie was toxic as F%ck! All they did was argue and instead of talking, they had sex. They didn't communicate and when she was ready to leave again, she thought she would have time to come back and be "someone's wife and someone's mother" (her words but notice she didn't say Chris' mother or Eddie's wife, she said someone's) but her time ran out and she didn't get the chance, hence the title of the episode she died in, "Careful what you wish for". Trust and believe she had a lot of faults and Eddie did too but her being young wasn't an excuse for her leaving Chris and not contacting him for almost 2 years. If Eddie wouldn't have contacted her about her interviewing at Durand, would she have ever come back? Who knows but probably not since she was out there living her best life like she didn't have a kid.
AF was nice but just because her and Eddie were cute together, it doesn't mean they were soulmates. Did the people rooting for them to stay together even realize that she was Chris' schoolteacher in 3x12 but she DIDN'T OFFER EDDIE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO HELP CHRIS SKATEBOARD? That was literally her job but she was career driven which isn't a bad thing but it seemed like she was in love with the idea of being in love just like Eddie was. She was trying to avoid dealing with the issues that were prevalent in their relationship and she didn't even ask Eddie about his panic attacks to try and find out what was causing them. But she did throw them in his face when he broke up with her.
M is IN LOVE WITH HER BROTHER! It was clear she was in 6x5 when she almost kissed him on the mouth while they were in the ambulance. Also, she's a loner, hence the meaning of her name, Marisol, it literally means solitude. When Eddie met her, she was doing upgrades on her home by herself until her brother showed up and made a complete mess of things. If Eddie does try to pursue something formidable with her in season 7, everyone knows how it will end because EDDIE TOLD THE AUDIENCE IN 6X14... he'll be performing and trying not to panic and his performance anxiety will be at a level 100.
Buddie
Who's never left Buck? EDDIE!
Who loves both Eddie and Chris? BUCK!
Who takes care of Buck? EDDIE!
Who listens to Eddie? BUCK!
The list can go on and on but the point of this post is for those who chose to see what they want to see instead of what 9-1-1 has CLEARLY been depicting for Buck and Eddie over the past six years. None of Buck’s or Eddie’s love interests were written to work because they weren't/aren't supposed to.
No one has natural chemistry with them like they have with each other and it's written that way on PURPOSE!

Man, Izutsumi's whole selfish character really is explained by how shit a hand she was dealt. Given her motivations for following the party, becoming a cat-hybrid was clearly done to her without consent, and far enough into life that she knows she isn't supposed to be such a thing and wants to turn back into a human.
She also clearly wasn't trusted or loved much in Shuro's household, given that they literally used a death curse as a collar to keep her in check, and then later decided to leave her behind when they couldn't find her in the Dungeon. It's theorized that the various non-human servants of Shuro are slaves that were bought into the household. Tade being grateful could well be because she was born into slavery and is happy to have relatively kind masters, but if Izutsumi was a free human that got turned into a catgirl, and then a slave, I can see why she's being a brat about it, especially if she's being told to be 'grateful' simply for having not actively abusive masters.
Given her childish demeanor, she'd probably learn better through rewarding good behavior than punishing bad behavior, but as a slave I doubt there were many notable rewards on offer to incentivize her. Travelling with the Thorden party is likely the first time since her transformation that she's been free, so molding her into a decent person now that she's equal to others is going to be an uphill battle, if that makes sense.
I know that there a probably no revelations to you in this message, since you already seem to 'get' her character pretty well, so this is just me phiiosophising in the comments.
P.S. the Barometz is a funny monster that kinda exists just to suffer. It's named after a type of fern that grows from a wooly bulb with a superficial resemblance to a lamb. The mythological Barometz has a long vine-like umbilical cord that connects its body to the earth. It can only eat grass within reach of that vine, so when it's eaten all the grass it can reach, it can either starve to death, or pull free from the vine, which also kills it. A new barometz then grows from the corpse. Poor bastards are really just born to die.
Tumblr media
Mmm, yeah. I was waiting for the comic to confirm it more before I jumped to conclusions about Izutsumi's background/past but if what you're saying gets confirmed within the story then yeah, that's explains why she acts the way she does even more.
(I assumed that she was some sort of a ward of Toshiro's house, yeah, but I thought that she was a beastkin first. The fact that there was a curse which was meant to kill her if she doesn't return to them....makes me wonder how much Toshiro knew about how the whole operation was being ran. Or if it just seems normal to him.)
Presumably, even in the east beastkin are viewed as being closer to monsters than humans. Their humanity being at stake means they're probably treated pretty horribly, which is likely the reason Izutsumi acts like everyone is her enemy, waiting to trick and deceive her.
That's kinda the tragedy of being a hurt person. She may have good reasons for acting the way she does, but Chillchuck's party (he's the leader, I've decided) doesn't deserve the way she treats them because of it. It's a sort of moral impasse.
It's just kind of a bad situation, but I'm very curious to see how she changes! She has already changed quite a bit since first meeting them. It's a fascinating story!
The Barometz thing is..... I KNEW I'd heard of it before, but that confirmation is WILD. Wow. Born to die indeed.

My quick personal thought on Noe in VNC manga latest chapter 61.5
(more under the cut)
.
I do NOT think Noe "pretended" to not notice the racism towards Dham in the office because he didn't "want" to accept the harsh reality that his "good" fellows are being bad / racists. It didn't happen...yet, at least.
I'm rather sure Noe simply, sincerely had NO "concept" of the racism ITSELF towards Dham AT ALL. "They probably still don't know their individual name each" was the ONLY and "best" guess Noe could ever make ON HIS OWN, within HIS (extremely limited) "common sense".
Noe does NOT realize the word Dham was being used like a slur purposefully in THEIR context, because Noe believes it's "by definition" not inherently an offensive term. They're Dhams, it's who they are, what's the problem? Vani is a human, so there's nothing wrong to call him human, cuz it's what he is, isn't it? But yeah, it's weird to keep calling all of them as just Dham when they all have their own name, let's fix it now!
Well, Noe does not have the same view / experience as other characters, much less we audience. He tends to listen well, but he's not always good at catching the hints / full context quickly. Of course, Noe hated to be called only "vampire" on and on by Vani in the previous arc, but Vani was clearly super hostile and seriously fighting Noe to death at that time, while this is happening "in peace", so Noe couldn't possibly imagine the people were hostile, "too", just in a different or "softer" form, perhaps? Or Noe failed to notice it because it's not directly about Vani lol
I get that it's very tempting to call Noe "stupid / annoying" etc for not noticing the "obvious" malice. But it's NOT obvious to him, unfortunately; he's plain ignorant and oblivious for real, because he literally has had NO chance to learn until now. He can't magically know what he doesn't know. He isn't even a genius character. This is the first time Noe witnessed the subtle and explicit racism, and honestly...I highly doubt if even now he truly understands that he watched people being openly bigoted and that it's never from their "innocent ignorance" as he first believed. Sadly, it indeed doesn't help that those people are the ones who Noe does NOT see as an enemy.
Noe never heard of Ruthven, who "can't" be unknown to anyone. Noe genuinely believed everyone else (Vani & Domi) was lost, when it's actually him alone who was lost. This is the Noe we're talking about!
Shapeless One didn't teach Noe anything about Dham and the prevailing racism (which is surely suspicious and irresponsible). It seems he at least didn't tell Noe that Dham should be oppressed / hated, and thankfully Noe has grown up not to discriminate people merely for race. Since he arrived in Paris, Vani has never bothered Dante and others for being Dham in front of Noe, either. But yeah, now Noe should get to know more and face the unjust reality that the Dham has to deal with.
"Noe should've known better because, Archiviste!!" I feel he believes that it's NOT the same and mostly the matter of the "rightfully creepy" (he thinks) "ability" of the memory-reading (for now, at least). When you think about it...no VNC character has negatively reacted to Noe for being Archiviste so far (and like, most of them barely know in detail or get interested a little) - except Vani XD and we all know Vani currently doesn't care, as long as Noe doesn't try to drink his blood. Astolfo hated Noe, but it's because he equally hates any "vampire".
However, in regards to Dham, people are loudly making "the existence ITSELF" a huge problem, including their mere "appearance" difference. People "discuss" their "right to exist", which is similar to Jeanne, Bourreau, the slaves. Yeah, I suppose Noe has been kinda "lucky" not to be the target of discrimination...until now. I won't be surprised if Noe still doesn't understand what makes Dham "deserve" all the disgust when they don't even have any "disgusting" ability "like his". I'd like to also add that...Noe might've been safe solely thanks to his (problematic) "guardian" Shapeless One, the (in)famous & powerful vampire that no one can casually ignore, similar to Ruthven ^^;;
In short, I think Noe did NOT "forcedly" "choose" to "ignore" the racism and try to make an "excuse" for his "cannot-be-racist" fellows "instead"; how can he "choose" to believe "otherwise", when he doesn't even notice the deep racism "specifically" towards Dham in the first place? Though I can agree that it'd be hard for Noe to properly process what's going on in the office because he unconsciously believes the fellows he trusts wouldn't be "weird" or "malicious" to other fellows "for an unreasonable reason".
.
This was written quite quickly, and I might regret it and remake a similar post later...or not XD
Thank for you reading my current personal opinion!!

Because I notice so many love readings and everyone seems to want that ... Forget that loll
A reading on your enemy (ies)

* y'all gotta say something if this resonates😂
Group 1
Ok so to compare to SpongeBob I guess, you guys defend something , and this person often does or just has or will walk away or leave in order to continue to plot or just look back and dwell on something and or the past/what just happened.
Seems like this person does want something and I'm guessing it's either yours or someone you know/care about. They think it will bring them success of some sort. This person has once or many times or I suppose maybe in the future will, try to do something , they think their slick, and they're creating bullshit and sort of wreaking havok more or less. In some way this person operates they're actually trying to compensate for something. Physically, mentally, whatever. Something they don't have at least no enough of. They lack. Ok. LOL . So this person views you as someone who has something of value but you aren't good or skilled enough to have it and you only have it so that someone who is "capable " can come and take it and use it to it's highest potential. You guys don't get offended this person is delusional. It's yours and it matches you not them. People like this have huge egos and they need to lie to themselves other wise WHAT would they do? Seriously what would they do with themselves. They wouldnt have an excuse to fuck shit up anymore. They need to be delusional about it so that they can do it. God knows why . They see something you have that is yours and they want to believe that it belongs to them because you being you make them feel bad about themselves. Lowkey they might be broke or something like that some type of poverty it could be spiritual, mental, creative, money, whatever. It kinda seems like this person is around to keep you grateful, to highlight you having a sort of kind soul and good heart and things. And also to both show to you and or other people how in control spirit is. Especially when it comes to what happens involving you and your life. Maybe to show that you're guided and intuitive possibly. There are definitely some things you do not know and are not supposed to.
Group 2
Getting some mad lazy town vibes not gonna lie. But I guess it is the theme in a way cause of the picture. Well this person or people seem to come up with a lot of "bright" ideas and or they do magic. Seems like they send stuff your way. Could be tricks and traps and things that are disguised or hidden. I have to say it. This reading is silly. This person is goofy. A lot of this stuff seems to go right over your head and you left unaffected because it's so far off from your energy. Either or both, you don't see eachother in person or you seem to avoid confronting eachother. More likely this person is scared to confront you without a mask on , face to face. You might not know what they do or the full gravity of the situation.or they just seem to get away some how. But in a way some of you do know especially if this is them doing magic. You know but you have no proof right.honestly this person is super insignificant and your life and or you are coming off super vibrant. Ok literally lazy town duh but this person trips over their own traps. Like they'll set a trap and then walk on the same trap ten minutes later. So silly. What. Do not even worry about this goober. You and your things , everything important is protected. Possibly by an entity. Or just a strong person spirit or not maybe you have a fricking camera in your room I don't know. You are protected nonetheless.
Group 3
This person or people , seem to come at you damn near if not just full force mega strong energy I'm guessing for a lot of you that is just raw anger. It could be any energy though. And you are just minding your business. Like some of you. everybody has flaws why would they expect anyone on earth that is alive to be perfect. The hell. And then yeah I see y'all more or less being negatively affected by this bs. Drama. You guys might be younger or less experienced at something but this person almost is like a bully like why are they choosing to come at you like damn.their words seem to kind of cut. Like, y'all are all chill more or less and you guys should just stay in your own energy and try to stay unaffected by this as much as you can. You could also say something about being treated like this if you can and want to. Also you could totally try to kill them with kindness and be sweet/innocent whatever according to what energy they're coming at you with. Don't be scared of an ending because of this situation and or person. For a lot of you I feel like someone around would /will be understanding if you told them what's up , though. Every boss has a boss too. Unless you're dealing with an owner of a company or someone who cannot be controlled somehow. Then I don't know what to tell you.

With the reveal of an NB character in Ninjago, I feel that people are placing this theme on a pedestal because of this one single move of inclusion. Don't get me wrong— I'm glad that LEGO is including LGBTQIA+ identities into their themes, and I genuinely hope they continue doing so, but we're forgetting that they're investing a step forward into a theme that's always going two steps back.
I don't feel like pointing out the issues of Ninjago, especially because it's tiresome and it's not the point of this post, but I remember that there was an entire thread here on Tumblr about the problematic worldbuilding of Ninjago. I might write something about it as well, but it's unlikely.
Chima had a great amount of inclusion and diversity within its cast (though no canon LGBTQIA+ characters, unfortunately):
POC-equivalent characters (brown and blue crocodiles; vultures with tan and bright blue skin colors), of which a few of those are part of tribes that have a motif from predominantly white cultures (Longtooth and Lavertus, who are brown lions in a tribe with a roman motif; Ehboni, Eglor, who are black and dark blue respectively, alongside unnamed eagles of mixed origins [dark blue x white] in a tribe of greek motif, and even Ewald himself isn't white).
A majority of these characters are important to the plot and/or have reoccurring appearances;
Diversity in tribe lifestyles, with the Wolf Tribe being nomadic (and not going through the stereotype of nomadic traders).
Each vehicle in Chima follows the motif and lifestyle of their respective tribe. For example, crocodiles are ambush predators and require camouflage, thus their vehicles are heavily based on military vehicles, with camo colors and strong silhouettes;
Marginalized characters whose arcs actually end with them winning and gaining respect. The Ice Hunters vs. Phoenixes arc was an obvious allegory of colonization, and it ends with the Ice Hunters alive and thriving, while the Phoenixes (who started the war) lost and failed to 'educate' their enemies.
The Crawlers also have their arc finished with an anti-war and pro-diversity lesson, where Laval lends them Chi because it's not supposed to be earned, and instead is free for everyone, even though they had stolen all of Mount Cavora's Chi beforehand;
Characters whose appearance is distinctive and break barriers of ableism are not only present in Chima, but are also treated equally to other characters, without having their differences be a point, argument, or lesson. (Cragger with a blind eye, Crug with a prosthetic jaw, the Raven Tribe as a whole, Leonidas with distinctively shaped incisors and Longtooth with long canines).
However, the Rhinoceros Tribe is an unfortunate exception, as they're constantly depicted as dumb;
The Lion Tribe has a lot of diversity by itself, with lions having a variety of mane colors that represent hair colors in real life. Laval has red hair, Leonidas is ginger, Lavertus is blond, Lennox has brown hair;
Other cultural representations such as Dom de La Woosh being based on Brazilian carnivals;
There's Wonald, a vegan character;
My favorite fact of all: Chima and Chi are both real words who exist in multiple languages, and each of their meanings was instrumental to the interpretation we have in this theme. → Chi means: knowledge in japanese; water (literally) and source of life (figuratively) in chinese; god in igbo. Chima means "god knows all" in igbo → in LoC, the Phoenixes created Chi, which looks like water and is the source of life/knowledge in Chima, and they also sculpted Mount Cavora with each tribe's heads before they had even evolved.
All of this unfortunately flew over most people's heads, which is a bad thing, as all of the effort that was put on Chima's diversity was left unnoticed, but it is also a good thing at the same time, because everything was executed seamlessly and naturally, just like how people should view each other in real life (view one another without discrimination). However, this amount of care and thought put into adding a diverse cast of characters is probably not going to be seen again, in any lego theme or any story made by corporations/companies.

Obbligato: The Punishment of Kaname Tojo - 7

Season: Spring, two years ago
Characters: Jun, HiMERU
Proofreading: Remi + 310mc (JP) & Skyress (ENG)

[Read on my blog for the best viewing experience with Oi~ssu ♪]
Time: A few days later
Location: In Reimei's Labour Camp room
Jun: (And in the end, nothing changed one bit.)
(Every last thing was pointless and meaningless, all amounting to nothing.)
(Even though Kazehaya-senpai worked himself to the bone at the cost of his own health, Reimei Academy continues to be a living hell. In fact, it feels like it's just getting worse.)
(With HiMERU as their figurehead, the Special Students have been snatching away work meant for Kazehaya-senpai, and they're living their best lives getting to perform to their hearts' desire.)
(It's plain to see how carried away they're getting. They're all kicking back and laughing, looking entirely too pleased with their success.)
(And to make things worse, they've been treating us Non-Specials even more harshly than before.)
Tumblr media
Jun: (It's ironic, really. All Kazehaya-senpai wanted was a future where everyone could live in peace and harmony together.)
(But until a lil' while ago, the Specials were getting their jobs stolen away by the Non-Special gang of the Catacombs)
(So they’re probably hanging onto a grudge over that, ‘cause they've gotten crazy aggressive with us these days.)
(They'll openly curse us out even in front of others, and they even get all rough and violent with us. The hell's the police even doing? This is obviously all kinds of fucked up.)
(The Specials straight up see us as enemies, now.)
(They treated us like servants in the past, but now they treat us like literal vermin. Like it's a given they'd wanna crush us underfoot the moment they so much as catch a glimpse of us.)
(But despite that, weirdly enough, Non-Specials refuse to run.)
(Do they think we're gonna turn the tables on 'em once Kazehaya-senpai recovers and makes his comeback?)
(I don't really hang around the other Non-Specials, so honestly, it beats me what they're thinking...)
(I sure hope they're not getting up to no good, though...)
Tumblr media
Jun: (They've been meeting up in the Catacombs just as usual, and it kinda seems like they've got something shady in the works.)
(I'm getting bad vibes from it all... Thanks to Kazehaya-senpai, Non-Specials got to experience what it's like to stand on the stage, even if only for a moment.)
(They got to learn what it's like to become an idol.)
(To have your dreams come true, surrounded by a dazzling radiance...)
(They got to know the joys of being alive.)
(But then everything changed, and everything they were supposed to have in their hands was stolen away by the Specials.)
(There's no way they wouldn't come to start resenting 'em.)
(Even those who'd given up and figured that this was just how things were — they got to realise that actually, it wasn't.)
Tumblr media
Jun: (It was 'cause of Kazehaya-senpai that the Non-Specials came to learn the taste of success, and lots of it. They learned that even without being a Special Student, they could achieve success, and become happy.)
(And that’s why, more than ever, they’ve started to resent the fact that we’ve got these Special and Non-Special labels forced upon us.)
(Non-Specials have started to question Reimei's unreasonable system all over again. Everyone's stress is building up from being forced to follow it.)
(This place is a powder keg waiting to blow and something's gonna set it off any time now.)
(Y'know, HiMERU, once someone realises their hard-earned gains are being stolen away by an intruder, it's only human nature that they'd resent them.)
(That's why Special Students have just gone harder in oppressing us Non-Specials, isn't it?)
(But in the same way, Non-Specials have started to resent them right back. They see 'em as the enemy who kicked them off the stage, and bear a grudge against 'em for that.)
Tumblr media
Jun: (Up 'til now, that wasn't how things always were. Sure, we never really liked each other, but it's not like we were straight up enemies.)
(We just saw each other as someone unpleasant who we had to coexist with. Now, however... both sides see the other as a detested enemy.)
(Even though all Kazehaya-senpai wished for was love...)
(The very opposite happened — it was hatred that built up instead.)
(For these two factions, festering with mutual resentment, Reimei Academy is the tiny cage in which they'll face off.)
(This place is a ticking time bomb...)
(And it's gonna go off with a terrible explosion the very first chance it gets.)
(It's a disaster waiting to happen — one that'll blast everything to bits.)
Tumblr media
Jun: ......
(But y'know, that might not be too bad. I mean, maybe this shitty dump of a school should get blown up and reduced to nothing but rubble —)
HiMERU: Hey.
Tumblr media
Jun: ...!? Woah, huh?
HiMERU?
HiMERU: .......
Jun: H-huh? What're you doing here? You returned to the Special Student dorms ages ago — don't tell me you'd forgotten something here at the Labour Camp and came back to get it only after all this time?
HiMERU: Tch... So you know of HiMERU?
Well, it'd be a surprise if you didn't know of him by now.
I was the one who facilitated his rise to the top, after all. In fact, it'd be an issue if he wasn't a household name.
Tumblr media
Jun: His rise... You're talking in third person now, huh? What's going on, your pretty lil' face trying your hand at acting or something?

Groovy Gumlet having his own army be decimated is probably the worst thing that can happen to him as a hyena demihuman
Groovy's a hyena demihuman. That means – if we're following the animal's mannerisms – he's a social creature that's drawn to complex heirarchy
As a General, he views himself as a leader. He leads an army and in Vollachia, the strong rule the weak; Groovy has to lead his men, not just because he's a General, but because that's the values they're all raised on
He's social. He befriends some of his fellow Generals, complains to Chisha, and thinks about his second-in-command when he's fighting.
So he's social and into hierarchy; yet, he's had all his men die, meaning he's not only alone, but failed them as a leader. They probably all gave their lives for him, too, since not only is he a Divine General, but being cowardly WILL kill them. That's not even considering that maybe Groovy's care means they have some sort of closer relationship beyond simply being ordered under his command. His second-in-command managed to survive longer, and still sacrificed themself for him to flee
Tumblr media
As the leader, he has regrets about what happened because he was supposed to take care of his men and lead them to victory. He doubts himself because of this, even if Vincent chose him.
Groovy, who had his men die under his care, hasn't eaten anything for days, was all alone, and lost those connections and underlings. He only has his own thoughts at this point to have any words, because everything else is undead and trying to kill him, and he wishes he had someone.
Tumblr media
He's lonely. I don't think there's ever been a moment where Groovy was alone until this struggle. In EX Novel 4, he fought alongside Mogura, fled with him to bring in Cecilus; he complained to Chisha in his office so he'd listen and stick around; he made cursed tools under Vincent's orders; when cleaning, he still happened upon Mogura and befriended him; this is probably the first time it's ever been mentioned that he's on his own.
What attracted him to find Heinkel and Rowan wasn't the smell of a settlement or food; it was the smell of life. That was the first thing he noticed and made a BEELINE for
Tumblr media
His concern the whole time are the people. Anyone to be company. It didn't cross his mind that he'd be leading enemies to them, he just wanted their help and it's implied he would've handled the enemies himself
He just wanted help from them. If they could fight, he wasn't going to sit back; he was going to eat something and jump right back into it
It's the idea of company that brought him back from literal DEATH. The demihuman craves company like nobody's business and it's so cute and so sad
So Groovy lost his men, feeling that he failed them, and it's probably crushing to be alone and hungry for so long. Like I said at the start, this is probably the worst thing that can happen to the hyena demihuman
Now I present this: the possibility that his dead men could also become the undead army that goes against him, the emperor, and everyone else.

You said you want an people and audiences to share ur work with, also thanks for the tag! Tell us about ur characters pls, who’s ur favourite, who do u think about that most?
I hope you find that home soon.
Hugs! Juno <3
Juno, you're literally the sweetest for this ask. Thank you!!
I have 4 main characters in Blood and Thorns, and they're all my children and I don't have a favourite (def. lying).
Tumblr media
(Left to right: Rosalind, Marcus, Razi, and Frigga - chapter 13 of Blood and Thorns)
Frigga Thorneheart is the main character of the first book, and she's just the sweetest, femmyist lil thing. Physically little, she's like 5'2" lol. And she's supposed to inherit leadership of her coven, but she really doesn't want to. She wants to frolic in the grass and make flower crowns and do lesbian things! She's a prodigy and studied Illusion magic when she was away at school (which is thought of as very complicated and niche in this universe because of how it interacts with the brain), but she also picked up a herbalism hobby, surprise surprise. Unfortunatly, she's a people-pleaser, so she has a really hard time voicing her needs to anyone, something I have never ever ever had an issue with myself. Wouldn't know anything about that, nope. 😬
Razi Wood is the other main character and Frigga's love interest. So butch, so hot, makes incredible bread. She's non-magical servant, so Frigga's falling in love with her is sort of a bad idea. But Razi's a charmer, she's got the rizz (as the kids say apparently?), and she hates the bourgeoisie which is probably the hottest thing about her honestly. She's independent and lives by herself in one of the servants' quarters at Thorneheart Manor because her father passed a few years ago, but she's also guarding a broken heart and using that independence as a shield. Let's just say: trust issues, but we see some character development in the first book when she makes her decision. Razi is probably the best point of view to write from because she really is no-nonsense and doesn't put up with rich-people's bullshit, an attitude I admire and hope to exemplify one day.
Marcus Magnus-Monroe is the non-magical son of the coven's benefactor and is the person Frigga gets forced into an arranged marriage with. He doesn't know that, and if he did, he'd immediately call things off. He started out as an uncomplicated guy, and he's the sort of character you don't see very often because he had a wonderful childhood growing up, his parents were both great people and treated him so well, and he doesn't have any real trauma from before the age of like... 20? He's thought of by his social circle as a bit of an airhead/bimbo, and he got that reputation because of the way he behaved from the age of 20-23 (party boy, chronic man-hopping, here for a good time), but after his mother's passing at 23, he calmed down (after being smashed for a year) and got into the Family businesses. He's just a sweetie, the truest incarnation of the Golden Retriever Bisexual Boy there is, and he's so much fun to write.
Rosalind Bloodswell was the last character to be created for Blood and Thorns, and their creation fundamentally changed the story because they quickly became way too interesting for their own good. They were originally going to be a man, but I ended up putting them in the NB category for a lot of reasons. They're the Heir to Frigga's Family's Enemy Family, the Bloodswells which is a clan of necromancers. The family isn't popular, but not because of the death magic. They're thought of as conspiracy theorists, which Rosalind has done their best to distance themself from. They're the quiet, withdrawn type, the dark horse of the story, but behind the prickliness and the concrete walls they've constructed to keep everyone out, Rosalind is a sappy romantic that has been in love with a certain Golden Somebody for years. Rosalind is the reason Blood and Thorns has become a series rather than a one-off book, and out of my shorts, 90% of them feature Rosalind in some way.
This group of characters occupies approximately 90% of my brain's ram. A lot of that has to do with the fact that they embody two of my favourite relationship tropes (femme/butch and sun/moon), but I think it's such a fascinating group of opposites that I can't help coming back to them over and over! I just finished the second draft of Blood and Thorns: Restructure, which centers on Rosalind and Marcus the way that the original one focused on Frigga and Razi, so after I take a little break, I'm going to write the first draft of the third one: Blood and Thorns: Otherworld - which will feature the four of them equally (I hope). I'm excited to explore different aspects of these characters (Rosalind alone, Frigga when she was at school) as well as dynamics between characters that I've barely been able to glimpse at (Razi, the anti-bourgeoisie commoner, will have to team up with Marcus, one of the richest men in all of Ozelea (the country), and Frigga's friendship with someone we know very little about from school).
Thanks for giving me an excuse to gush about my kids! I hope you enjoyed <3

Shino was a good student and is also considered a good Shinobi in general, but it's because he was essentially Brainwashed to a greater extent than the rest of the Konoha 13, second only to Sai. And that's probably super obvious but Imma talk about it anyway, take a peak if you'd like lol
It's the same reason why Choji was originally one of the worst students and as he got older and more experienced, still wasn't up to speed like some of the others in general, allegedly. Shino and Choji both come from Noble Clans, and by the time they're both 17, have a great amount of skill in their own way. And sure, Asuma as a Sensei was noted to complain a lot about Choji, but I think its at least partly because Choji was not brainwashed by the school to a great enough extent. And his obviously loving parents and fellow Akimichi Clan Members certainly did not try to remedy that either. It doesn't show in his character like it does for Shino and the Aburame. Neji is considered a great Shinobi, even better than Shino by Rank. And he was RIGHTFULLY angry, but dude had such a warped sense of his own worth and existence due to his Dad being put to death because of the Situation, being a literal slave, and then finding out his Dad willingly chose to die instead of fighting for his life??? Neji was considered a Noble but he was treated cruelly and spiritually beaten down by his own family to become the Shinobi he was. School probably just gave him some desperately needed structure.
Like, Shino comes from an obviously powerful clan, yet even so, Shibi as the Head of that clan was powerless to keep Torune from being taken by Danzo. And Shino might have witnessed all of that as a young child, but he likely understood most of what happened very well. So how were Shibi and the rest of the Aburame Clan going to justify such a thing? The only way to explain it to Shino and keep him from looking for Torune and causing trouble along the way would be to make Shino think of Torune's selection and following abduction as a Good Thing. It was an Honor for Danzo to come to the Aburame, and Torune acted like a True Shinobi, a prime example of what it means to be Loyal to and Love the Village. And the fact that Shino was originally the one chosen to go doesn't mean Shino wasn't good enough in the end. This all just has to be kept as secret as possible, and Shino is already a student at the Academy. This is so that Enemy Ninja don't find out so easily. But they all know, and will always know. So Shino should not cry or fret. Shino is just as much Devoted to the Village as Torune, right? Torune wanted to do this, so Shono should not disparage his choices with tears and sadness...
... Framing it as an especially good thing would have to have been the only way to pacify an otherwise complely terrified and hugely upset Shino. And the only way to cope with what happened would be to believe it was a good thing, to believe all that bullshit everyone else told him. And Shino really would. It would always feel bad, and the trauma would still affect him in a variety of ways. The survivor's guilt. The feelings of inadequacy caused by Danzo's choice to reconsider Torune instead, which spared Shino instead of Torune. The new knowledge that some people in the village are so strong that just their words could make Shibi visibly panic. Knowing Danzo could always come back if he wanted to. But still, it's all worth it, because it was a Good Thing. Shino tries to, and really just has to actively deal with all that... at least until he gets older. And starts to use his developed critical thinking skills to question Konoha's inner workings and politics, especially after Naruto's supposed influence. He'd soon realize how fucked up it all really was with a clearer and more human and personal view on things. He might try talking to Shibi about it, but Shibi wouldn't give him the chance. Shibi doesn't want to even think about it. But at that point, Shino could easily piece together what a dilemma it really was for his father. There was no solution, only two bad options his father would have had to live with...
Torune wasn't loyal to the Village. He didn't love the Village. Torune was loyal to Shibi for treating him like a son, and he loved Shino like a little brother. That's why he did what he did...
Like... how is this shit still not properly explored in canon? Why set up such a situation, at the very end, only to ignore it completely anyway!? Why did we get these tidbits so late in the game when Shino was set up to just be a snooty and sometimes quite an unlikable guy in the series?

You mentioned a while ago a Gundam Eligos. I’d love to hear about your… process I suppose (how did you go about thinking it up, what influenced you decision to make it the Eligos, to arm it as you did etc.).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mention it because I suddenly remembered a little while ago the existence of these two fake Ibo Gundam’s (I think that became popular around the second season) and I got curious on what your perspective would be on them, if any.
I apologise if you already mention this in one of your fanfics. I’m afraid Iron Blooded Orphans just isn’t really the sort of series I seek out fan fiction of (though if that ever changes, your stuff’ll be top of the list).
Oh, yeah, I quite like that fan-art (original links are these, I believe https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/60410296, https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/58286615?), though I feel the aesthetic skews away from IBO's baseline. Halphas in particular doesn't look right to me and I think that's because it's aping UC or 00 style 'suits too closely.
Anyway - no need to apologise; I get having things you don't seek fan fic out for, I'm the same. I'll note for the record that what I'm going to say contains spoilers but with one (highlighted) exception, they're broadly unimportant.
In total, I made up two Gundams, four pseudo-Gundams, and one adjacent 'new' mobile suit for Wishing on Space Hardware. If you'll indulge me, I'll go through the logic behind each of them in order of appearance.
The first Gundam is little more than a placeholder. I literally needed something to fit between Barbatos and Gusion in a line-up of frames for two characters to walk past. Due to misreading a wiki page, I originally labelled this Seere, which obviously is a Gundam that already exists, at the other end of the number sequence. But then I found this list which is easier to follow and renamed it Paimon (ASW-G-09). I described it as a scout model, slender and winged, which doesn't quite fit with the description of Paimon the demon. However, since that demon's rank is King, like Bael, describing it as similar sort of works. Clearly, my thought process on this one wasn't especially deep! The background I gave Paimon was that it had been in a private collector's war museum in a non-operational state. Some rich guy bought it from salvagers and put it on display. This seemed like a reasonable fate for a Gundam frame to have suffered and I used it later to bulk-out a list of extant frames.
The psuedo-Gundams are all copies of Flauros. Very easy! The idea behind them is that following The Incident, Gjallarhorn authorised an attempt to reproduce the Gundam frame with a view to better controlling the technology. A recovered Flauros was used as the template owing to the transformation mechanism, the Dainsleifs, and the fact that Shino very nearly killed Rustal Elion with it, which created a lot of shock-waves (it's a thread in my fics that this has as many long-term consequences as Barbatos' final rampage, while everyone kind of forgets about Gusion).
I hand-waved the difficulty of building new Gundam frames on the notion that 1) nobody ever tried before, 2) the problem of running two reactors in parallel gets solved over the course of the fics, and 3) the resulting 'Flauri' are technically inferior anyway, being less powerful and less resilient compared to a real Gundam frame (a fact that, as of writing, is about to become extremely important). All this said, the chief reason for making them Flauros-copies is thematic: this is a story where Shino narrowly survives and is taken prisoner. It's a big part of his arc that Gjallarhon takes everything uniquely 'his' and twists it for their own ends.
The Flauri start out as unpainted copies of Flauros' short cannon form, using Gjallarhorn railguns. F-4 remains more or less in this configuration throughout; F-3 switches out its guns for a laser cannon and an electro-harpoon weapon designed to disable enemy 'suits; F-2 is given the full original Flauros weaponry; and F-1 is refitted for melee combat with a set chainsaw/claw weapons in place of the stabiliser feet on the arms. Then, as the story progresses, F-2 gets outfitted the same as F-1, which in turn...well, that actually is a spoiler I don't want to share just yet! Point is, Gundam Flauros has a nicely 'neutral' design compared to a lot of the IBO 'suits, so it was very easy to picture how different weaponry would be bolted on. (Also, while Flauros becomes the template for the completed 'suits, development of the frame was based on an impounded Dantalion, so the idea of switchable equipment is there from the start.)
The long and short of this segment: I started with the thematic idea and thought about how far I could stretch it, following the logic I'd established in the story.
The 'new' mobile suit is another output of the above project: a Reginlaze-like frame that incorporates Flauros' transformation gimmick. The Leopard (named for Flauros the demon's common form) is basically an IBO equivalent of a Guncannon and sort of a joke that swings around to being serious. They were rolled out quickly as a way to shore up Gjallarhorn's relationships with the Earth blocs and Mars when there was a risk that the above Gundam-replication might be publicly exposed. As such, they've got a massively sub-par performance compared to actual Reginlazes. However, this doesn't stop a couple being stolen by terrorists and used for long-range sniping operations, or Gjallarhorn deploying their own, higher-spec models as fusiliers. The high-brow justification for this is as an illustration of more consequences of Tekkadan's actions, but honestly? I just thought mashing Flauros' design elements into a Reginlaze would work nicely.
And finally - to address your actual question! - Gundam Eligos.
OK, so, context: Eligos is not actually called Eligos for the majority of the story. It goes under the pseudonym 'Skoll', as in 'Hati and Skoll', the wolves who chase the sun and moon in Norse mythology. Being a 'moon-chaser' is a loaded double-meaning given that its pilot is one of the Tekkadan survivors. Likewise, due to who it is fighting for (a different terrorist group, apparently headed by a new 'Montag'), its modern appearance is patterned on the Grimgerde: red armour, swept-back fins, shields on its arms. That is principally why it has the armaments it does: shorter versions of the rare-metal blades built into the shields (which themselves flip around to reveal guns are the other end, because seriously, how many of those rifles did Mackie throw away?). It's also fitted with a booster pack for the majority of its appearances: big, triangular wings loaded with additional reactors to allow it to move incredibly fast compared even to normal Gundams. This thing is built for hit-and-run, designed to cut through enemy lines as swiftly as possible, because for a long time it's functionally the only mobile weapon this group has at their disposal. While it is later joined by 'Hati' (a Schwalbe Graze variant), that 'suit serves a very different purpose.
[To whit: Hati is equipped with the combination of a Dainsleif launcher with a beam-weapon, intended to negate the resistance effects of nano-laminate. The javelins it fires are hollow and filled with reflectors, creating a path for the beam. As you might imagine, this is a precision weapon to a frankly ridiculous degree, so Hati is functionally static while in operation. Ergo, Skoll has to handle any mobile suits in play while Hati targets enemy ships.]
The reason I'm starting with all this is because it's what came first. I made Skoll up before I picked which Gundam frame it was built around. I wanted a Grimgerde/Gundam hybrid that ran with Tekkadan's 'one man commando unit' concept. I decided it had been recovered with very little of its original armour intact, so its original identity was irrelevant in terms of what it could actually do.
However, obviously I couldn't leave it there! So: which to use?
I wanted a relatively low number, because the backstory I settled on was that this Gundam had been involved in the battle that left Barbatos (ASW-G-08) abandoned on Mars. Strictly, there was no reason to focus on the low-end of the sequence since I roped Flauros (ASW-G-64) into the same scenario, but it was a way to narrow things down. Another thing I used was association with the colour red (because Skoll is very much the 'rival' machine for these fics).
This led me to the page on that same roleplaying wiki I linked above for Eligos. Which is absolutely not an academically rigorous source. I spent a good fifteen minutes just now tracing the source for describing this demon as wearing a red coat (apparently it's from 'The Red Book of Appin' though I don't have the energy this morning to confirm the exact quote). Fortunately, it doesn't really matter because Crowley's edition of the Ars Goetia is sufficient to explain my final reasoning:
ELIGOS — The Fifteenth Spirit in Order is Eligos, a Great Duke, and appeareth in the form of a goodly Knight, carrying a Lance, an Ensign, and a Serpent. He discovereth hidden things, and knoweth things to come; and of Wars, and how the Soldiers will or shall meet. He causeth the Love of Lords and Great Persons. He governeth 60 Legions of Spirits. His Seal is this, etc.
I'm not wedded to the idea that the demonic descriptions need to be a one-to-one match for the machines or the pilots, but there's some fitting stuff here. First, it's 'goodly' as in 'handsome', which is beautifully ironic for a variety of reasons. Second, the lance. As I fleshed out what had happened to this frame, I realised I needed to have it use a spear or lance, because while I'd decided the katana was Barbatos's original weapon, the circumstances I was inventing required it to wield a longer weapon at a dramatic juncture. Therefore, that needed to come from another Gundam. And third, there were the references to knowing the future and matters pertaining to wars.
(Due diligence note: slightly more major spoilers for the fic follow)
.
.
.
This is what solidified the pick. You see, something I omitted from my description of Gjallarhorn's Gundam replication project is that the frames are only part of it. They also wanted the means to reproduce the piloting abilities Tekkadan showed. This led to the creation of the 'Alaya-Vijnana Type Zero', an AI model fed on battle data from people (Shino) who used the A-V. This enables the creation of new Type E systems sans the necessity of wiring dead people's brains into a mobile suit. As a concept, this met with mixed success but it's relevant here because the group operating Skoll got their hands on a copy of the specs and incorporated it into their Gundam alongside a standard A-V. This ramps up the information processing capacities of the system so it can very precisely identify incoming threats and respond accordingly, allowing someone with only a single whisker to operate at the level of someone with two or three. It becomes a 'sixth sense' for the pilot, which fits Eligos' realm of knowledge perfectly.
(And to confirm the obvious: yes, it's a Gundam Wing reference.)
With this established, I back-filled what Gundam Eligos (ASW-G-15) had been like. In appearance, it takes cues from 00's Gundam Zabanya, having an articulated 'cloak' of shield panels used to deflect incoming attacks and let it muscle in close to its target. Its primary weapon was designed for skewering and it would probably have had beefed-up thrusters to enable this mode of combat. For its original incarnation, the connection to 'knowledge of wars' is that its pilot was strategist for Gjallarhorn's Mars contingent.
To summarise the finalised backstory: Barbatos, Eligos and Flauros were deployed to the Chryse Planitia to combat a squadron of Hashmals, but the mobile armours split up, forcing the Gundams to do the same. Flauros ended up using its Dainsleifs at very close range, burying itself along with the Hashmal that would later reactivate thanks to Iok. Barbatos and Eligos fought the remainder but were overwhelmed. In a last-ditch effort, Barbatos used Eligos' abandoned lance to puncture the Ahab reactors on one of the Hashmals. The resulting gravitational upset blew Barbatos into the middle of the desert and ripped the armours to bits. Eligos was caught in the blast and crushed by the wreckage, the frame left repairable but its equipment written off.
And to summarise the answer to your question: there you have it. A mix of ideas that I then matched to the entry in the Ars Goetia I felt fitted best with where I was going. I'm both a 'what would be cool' or a 'what serves the plot best' writer when it comes to creating stuff for fanfic/fanart, but I do like to work through a justification for whatever I invent, even if it doesn't get much focus.
Thanks for asking! I know I've rambled on a lot, but that's simply because it was fun to collate my reasoning in one place.
[Addendum: There is one additional 'new; 'suit I included (past obvious things like Shidens using the two-horned alternate mask from the options set and that one random Hloekk with forklifts for arms), which is the J-class Reginlaze, a high-mobility variant that's basically a normal Reginlaze with Julia-style wing-thrusters on its shoulders. This is mainly by 'rule of cool' logic: overall, I have been trying to resist throwing in new 'suits at every opportunity because I really enjoy IBO not doing that. But sometimes, the urge to be self-indulgent is hard to fight!]

Nothing makes me laugh more than the thought of the Primus coming back from Korthia only to find the Theater of Pain hosting “Maldraxxus Vision” and the Seat of the Primus covered in flashing rainbow lights while Carameldansen blasts from inside.

cw: tokyo revengers recent chap spoilers, talk of mental illness, depression, suicide mention, long post idk
so if you guys followed me from hxh, you probably know that i LOVE trope deconstruction, particularly deconstruction of the shonen genre
like shonen at its core is meant to be a male power fantasy, particularly traditional shonen, think dbz and bleach for example, and even naruto (which accidentally stumbled on more complex themes which i can probably discuss at some other time). this is again apparent with tokyo revengers - while a lot of fem-identifying people can enjoy this show for various reasons, on its face it's meant to be a shonen
there's a lot of recurring themes which we often joke about ie. friendship no jutsu to defeat enemies, friendship being elevated to soulmate levels, rivals to enemies, admiration through fighting, etc
like i think i've already discussed this, these are all great ideals for young boys, but they're again ideals!!!
which is why i love this new chapter
obviously i don't know what's in wakui's head, but to me he's making it very clear that takemichi is so extreme and because we're so used to these qualities being viewed as good, some of us are missing the point
in real life, it is impossible to save everybody.
not only is it impossible, in many times it is unreasonable, it's dangerous, and it's selfish.
takemichi has shown time and time again that his motivations are not well thought out and are less about actually increasing more good in the world vs making himself feel like he's increasing value to the world.
how? initially with his fixation with saving hinata, a girl he barely remembered to a fixation with proving he's not a loser (which is essentially the real guiding principle here) to saving mikey, which multiple timelines have demonstrated that despite not necessarily being impossible to save, HE cannot be the one to do it
tbh i was done with takemichi personally when he saw a future where everyone was doing well and risked it all to the expense of ALL his other friend's, HINATA, who was his initial supposed goal, and even HIMSELF.
and this is a recurrent theme. Takemichi is not serving others. he is serving himself. because if he were planning on serving others, there are times where he would have consulted with others to figure out the best mode of action
over and over again, takemichi has decided that the way to save mikey is to remove obstacles around him. kisaki's antics, baji and draken's deaths, etc. in that way, HE becomes the obstacle, and mikey who is in and of itself is a destructive force becomes far worse, which is why i dub him an enabler
(which begs the question, if kisaki wasn't so intent on killing hinata which is obviously bad, is he really the problem? isn't he essentially mikey's leash in the future? obviously this is complex so i won't delve into it further on this rant)
but basically the problem here is takemichi is needlessly and selfishly persistent. he doesn't understand mikey. he doesn't understand anyone else in this realm. he has a grandiose sense of his own self-importance. he ignores facts (what do you mean 'he almost killed me' when you've seen MULTIPLE timelines where he kills people he's known more than you?) and does not use resources well
he is stuck in his own head even though by all means he is the perfect shonen protagonist
never give up! do what you can! save everybody! leave no one behind!
but he's literally left everyone behind multiple times with his one track mind
it's not 100% him afflicted with this savior complex, baji and draken are complicit in the same nonsense
but it's annoying and i'm tired of seeing it and he deserves to get his ass beat
end rant.

Dogs of the Military
Pairing: Scar/Major Miles (implied)
Characters: Scar, Major Miles, Tim Marcoh, Assorted OCs
Warnings: Referenced war atrocities, referenced cruelty to animals, animals in medical distress.
Additional Tags: Post-Canon, Ishval Rebuilding, Dogs, Animal Husbandry, The Military, Angst but Hopeful
Summary: Co-writing and initial ideal credit to @ravensandwritings. FMA Secret Santa 2021 (@fmasecretsanta) present to @klainelynch, who requested found family type fic. This is sort of half a present and sort of two presents, as this one got away from me and your Christmas present is Chapter 1 of a multichapter piece. I hope that this is not a disappointment!
-----
"Beg your pardon, a what?"
"He says there's a monster in the desert. Obviously, it's, you know." Private Nelson, a slightly chunky man who always seemed to be wearing a uniform a size too large for him no matter how many times he checked his belt, made a little gesture that indicated 'You know how these superstitious locals are' that Miles thoroughly did not appreciate.
The soldier next to him, Private Hume, offered a shrug. Hume wore her hair cut even shorter than military regulations insisted and had a perpetual expression of mild distaste on her features, one that seemed even more intense today. "Well, it's not just him. We've had three of them, and you know how rumors are when they get around. Everyone's jumping at shadows and blaming evil spirits for tripping over their own feet."
"You said it had carried off an entire sheep. Do imaginary spirits do that?"
Nelson let out a mild grunt of frustration. "No, but the neighbors do. Or local wildlife. Or sometimes the damn things just fall down a hole and get stuck because they're sheep, sir."
"Regardless, in what way does it improve the local people's trust in us to disregard their concerns and let their small flocks continue to be ravaged while we sit back here safe and comfortable?"
"Who says we're comfortable?" Hume mumbled, scratching at her neck, where sweat and fabric had combined to leave a growing rash.
"What was that, private?"
The scratching hand snapped to Hume's side. "Nothing, sir."
"Good. Tomorrow, you will accompany the Ishvalan consul and ask the witnesses to take you to where the monster was sighted. Further complaints or mockery will be subject to discipline. Understood?"
"Yes, sir."
* * * *
"It's like herding a bunch of feral cats."
"You don't like cats?"
"I'm fine with cats. I like not having rat droppings in my daily bread. But cats are not a military animal. Dogs, you can train, but cats will do as they please and your only task is to make sure what they please is also what pleases you. If I wanted cats, I'd have gone into politics. I prefer dogs."
"I suppose the harsh rigors of Briggs did not prepare you to deal with soldiers lacking discipline."
Mile rolled over onto his side, lounging across the bed as he watched Scar preparing to join him. The little house they were both staying in had only one other room besides kitchen and bathroom, with a curtain hung on a rope to split it into Scar's quarters and Major Miles's. Each had a bed, a small table, and it was assumed they would make the situation work until such time as Scar moved out. After…certain negotiations and diplomatic relations…they'd pushed both beds together on one side and left the other side as their mutual office and study room. It kept Scar from rolling out onto the floor at night, and gave Miles a much nicer view than construction sites and the single determined bush growing outside their window.
"Ironically, the rigors of Briggs make discipline much easier," Miles noted. "Up there, we are surrounded by enemies. Not just enemy soldiers, but also the cold, the wind, the wildlife–"
"-a housewife–"
"I'm filing that under wildlife. Anyway, my point is that we have to have discipline and trust among us or we will literally die. We have enemies to focus on, so all our frustration can go toward them. Here, we are not asking them to merely fend off enemies but to protect civilians and aid in their comfort and mental security. The discomforts are small but many, instead of large and near overwhelming. The end result is a resentment that has nowhere to go, and no understanding that getting along with the men around you is the only way to keep everyone alive."
Scar gathered water in the palms of his hands and splashed it across his face, rubbing, then pressing it back through his hair. It was growing out nicely. Maybe too nicely, Miles might need to take scissors to it before it turned into a full on mullet.
* * * *
The next day, Scar took a party out into the old Amestrian military ruins. With him were Nelson and, reluctantly, Hume, along with the Ishvalan shepard who'd last seen the alleged monster. Lior, barely fourteen, was accompanied by his father Boaz and Ofra, a young woman they'd claimed was his sister. The war had shattered families so badly that many had clung to whoever they'd washed up with, claiming them as siblings and children after the fact just so the government would let them stay together. It wasn't as if there were records left to prove otherwise. Ofra carried a long knife with them, and Scar knew for a fact that was not the only one she had on her person.
Lior's pace was skittish as they walked out into the blasted rocks, not just because of the monster that he'd definitely for sure seen but because he's keenly aware only half the men on the expedition actually believe he's not making it up. He tried to seem rational, not some panicky rural twit, but he mumbled his words as he guided them down.
"Saw it over here. I think this used to be where the Amestrian scientists did...did their horrible stuff, you know? The doctors? So maybe it's...it's something of that." He stumbled over stray bits of rubble, eyes not meeting anyone's gaze. The place was barely standing, and not just because of the war. Scar recognized alchemical markings on some of the rocks where the building was deliberately torn down, perhaps even by someone who Scar later killed with his own hands. The military had tried to sink it in the desert, but they'd been in a hurry, and the wind had worn open holes in the ground with stairs leading to underground facilities.
Lior stuck closer to his father as they approached the yawning maw in the sand.
The two Amestrian soldiers with them only knew the general details of what happened here. They knew to be respectful here, to not make jokes or treat this as nonsense made up by a scared and superstitious shepherd, but none of the particularly.
Ishvalans, of course, knew exactly what happened here, plus or minus some wild rumors. When the truth was already so unbelievable, anything was possible. Lior fully expected to find screaming one-eyed zombies, or undying monstrosities made of his cousins, or the scientists still practicing their horrible work below ground with no care to the end of the war.
In the darkness, something stirred, and then darts from one shadow to the next. Guns snapped up, Ofra's knife flashing before her. Silence hung over the still, dusty hair.
It could have been rats, or simply a trick of the light in a slowly decomposing building. One of the soldiers even laughed a little, lowered the tip of his gun and opened his mouth to make a crack about ghosts and trigger fingers.
Then a rough growl came out of the shadows, a burst of movement through the brief spots of light coming in through the crumbling ceiling, and nobody thought it was just the wind anymore.
"Is that...it isn't a dog, is it?" said Hume, very faintly.
The creature's being backed into a corner now, teeth bared and catching the flickers of light. The eyes flash, and they're entirely the wrong shape for a dog. Or any animal that size. Then it was gone down one of the drainage pipes cracked open by the explosion, and was gone beyond their reach.
The word 'chimera' was whispered behind Scar's back. The soldiers had heard of the creatures, through rumor mill or through very discrete briefings by Miles, but none of the ones here had actually seen a chimera in person. The Ishvalans had believed they were just more propaganda, so used were they to the government putting out fearmongering.
But they all knew something horrible had happened here. They'd just held out hope it had been done for some reason besides its own horror.
Scar put a hand to the wall besides the drainage pipe. He felt power surge up his stolen right arm, across the intricate tattoos and out through his fingers to dissolve the wall back into sand.
"Forward."
"Shouldn't we go back and report to–"
"You are welcome to do so. I am going onward."
Hume and Nelson shot a glance between them, silently fretting over how badly it would look to send civilians in while they ran away in fear, and reluctantly followed behind Ofra and her huge knife.
As they headed into the corridor they passed the withered remains of corpses. Some appeared to be sheep, or at least partially sheep, but others were clearly human.
One of the soldiers crouches next to a crushed body and notes, with some disgust, that it's wearing an Amestrian uniform. To hide this place, they'd even slaughtered their own people.
The Ishvalan grumpily asks why he's surprised. Did he think Amestrians were special to these monsters? The man ducks his head and refuses to respond, instead noting that the smell seems to be getting worse this way. Worse, and fresher.
Scar moved through the dark like the hunter he'd been forged to be. Some of those damned Amestrian light-up goggles would have helped right about now, but he had ears too.
The noises were difficult to interpret but he could at least follow their direction. Perhaps the clicking of chitin, or the tapping of hard nails on metal. At least none of it sounded…human.
From a mass of crumpled and half-melted cages came a low growl. The monster knew it had been seen, enough to risk a noise in the faint hope it'll scare the monsters with guns and knives away. Hume's flashlight panned over another chimera huddled in a filthy nest that reeked of dead things. Black plating covered brown fur on its back and tail, ending in a stinger that it struggled to raise as it stood on spindly, mangy legs.
Like the other creature, it was thin enough that the edges of ribs could be seen along its sides–unlike the other, its belly is distended and swollen beneath it despite the obvious malnutrition. The tail was waving in the air not in threat display, but because she could barely hold it up. It growled, but even the teeth it bared looked worn.
He hated that he pitied it. He hates that its state stayed his hand when a child fused to the family pet did not.
The Nina creature had a mind enough that could grasp her wrong state, but rendered dumb enough with the mingling of the dog that she would be a good girl, a sweet and precious talking chimera to keep her father in his comforts.
This thing, it didn't understand that it had no right to exist.
Scar extended a hand to Nelson. "Give me your coat." The chimera growls again, hunching bony shoulders under its carapace. Its rows of eyes flicker and dilate in the dim light.
Nelson shucked his coat, grumbling, if only because he was more afraid of Scar than the chimera. "S'gonna come out of my pay if it shreds," he mumbled.
Scar approached the chimera, holding the coat before him as target and shield, then simply tossing the entire thing over the animal and hefted it up into its arms. The creature protested, clacking and growling, a wiggling bundle of blue-clad menace.
"You. Private Nelson," he says, as if he wasn't carrying a exhausted weapon of war that had never been unleashed. "You're to run out ahead and tell Mr. Mauro to expect a pregnant animal to tend to. He will make ready."
"And Major Miles?"
"Yes, I suppose you'll have to tell him eventually."
The chimera eventually falls limp in his arms as he carries her back, letting out a weak 'wrrr' of complaint as she's toted along like a wayward Resembool sheep. The others follow but stay away from him, wary of...bites? Stings? A touch from that horrible arm? This seems fitting, to the soldiers, a monster taming a monster. To the Ishvalans it's just more proof of his power.
She had no strength, Scar thought. She was not a threat. She would not die in the dark like a shameful secret, another horror of Amestris' bloody history buried in the sands of Ishval.
* * * *
"Are you sure it's not just a very ugly dog?"
"I-sir, I don't know," Nelson said, wide-eyed and shuffling his feet. Major Miles was staring at him so long that he'd had to rush to affirm he wasn't drunk, insane, or pulling a prank. "But he's bringing it back here to Doctor Mauro."
Doctor Mauro, known in a previous life as Tim Marcoh. The alchemist. Or former alchemist? Miles doesn't know if that's the kind of job you can just give up, or something that stays inscribed in you like the ink on Scar's arms. It's a discussion he'll have later.
"And that's not…dogs can't be shaped like that, sir. Not naturally. I'd heard rumors that they did weird experiments here during the war, but surely it can't be–"
"Either way, clear a path for him and ensure the civilians are out of sight. Do not breathe a word of this to anyone, military or civilian. If it actually is a chimera, I want as few people to know about it as possible. If it is not, I don't want to hear that you got drunk and spilled the beans to the mailman." And if it's just an ugly dog, as few people will see how embarrassing it is as possible."
* * * *
It was not, in fact, an ugly dog.
Marcoh's weathered hands ran over the belly of the creature lying bound on his work table, the expression on his mangled face tight with concern. His eyes flicked to Scar every so often, who kept a still and easy gaze over the both of them. He pressed where he could, listening for changes in heartbeat and in breathing that would indicate pain, but the creature was so tired it barely had commentary to offer.
"I–you know, I think you already know what I'm going to say, don't you? You'd know it just to look at the thing," he said. God, he felt so tired. This place had seen so many horrors, why did one more need to come out and remind them of his country's sins. Of his sins.
Scar gave a small, silent nod, his face like the stone cliffs above the city.
"It's a chimera." Marcoh's fingers soothed down the chitin over its neck. "And it's pregnant."

DBS COLORING BOOK CHAPTER 74 REVIEW
*spoilers* I liked this chapter in isolation.
*spoilery spoilers* I dislike this chapter when comparing it to other chapters.
Here's the battle Vegeta fans have been waiting for...! (Glad I lowered my greatly expectations)
First, let's talk about use of panels real quick. When there is action, Toyo has done better and uses about 6 panels max to convey the fight. But when there is dialogue, he uses too many panels. Like 7 to 9 panels on one page. That is too much for dialogue. And he has pointless reaction shots often.
It begins with the axolotl inspired Sugarians leaving their fishbowl homes through cleaning-tube roadways. I like their aquarium-like city and their buildings.
And here we are on page 2 with the Toyotaro dialogue. 😒 How can I tell? Compare it to Dragon Ball and you can easily tell the difference between Toriyama's dialogue & Toyotaro's dialogue. (Toriyama has been more focused with working on the DBS movies. I highly doubt he contributes as much to the manga as some fans believe.)
Vegeta sounds like Mr. Satan when calling fusion and cloning "tricks" lol. And no, I doubt Vegeta's Forced Spirit Fission would work on Granolah. Granolah split himself in 2 with a technique. It is still all Granolah & he hasn't absorbed anyone. Forced Spirit Fission is useless here.
Granolah sure is chatty again after he kept saying how he really really wants to kill these Saiyans. Vegeta tells him he parted ways with Freeza and he is an enemy now, as to which Granolah laughs. Granolah thinks Vegeta is betraying Freeza to spare his own life. This just let's us know what kind of person Granolah is...
Granolah is a nonsensical idiot who doesn't know how to reason well & doesn't listen to truth because he assumes he is already right. I don't like ppl like him who refuse to grow mentally. I went from liking Granolah, to not caring about his bland personality, to disliking him. 😑
Oatmeel's input is pointless because he doesn't sway Granolah into believing the Saiyans may not be lying. He quickly gives up and becomes quiet. Vegeta informs Granolah that he was a child when Planet Cereal's ppl were killed and wasn't part of the attack. But he doesn't care and Paragus wants revenge against the royal family... I mean, Baby wants revenge on all Saiya... Granolah wants to kill all Saiyans.
Then we get Vegeta saying he will kill Granolah after barely talking to the guy who was willing to talk. I guess Vegeta just wants to fight and test his power instead of trying to redeem himself like earlier chapters implied and fans theorized. Throw that out the window.
He turns SSB Evolution & Hakai's large rocks around Granolah. But Granolah appears behind him and shows Vegeta true hakai. He elevates a big chunk of the ground & blows it up then the force pushes Vegeta to him and Granolah strikes him. Cool way to use the environment in battle.
Also, Granolah knows Hakai. He shows it off by using his own more powerful Hakai & suggests Vegeta's training with Beerus is lacking.
There is some cool looking art. Their fight moves from forest to river to lake. Interesting environment s for DB. Reminds me of the Cooler movie and the fights on Namek a bit.
This entire time, Vegeta is on the defensive and has to run. But, I find pages 16-21 silly.
Tumblr media
Why is Vegeta swimming when he can fly through the water?! Swimming is slower & Granolah is firing fast ki blasts at him!
YOU: "But, Vegeta is swimming so Granolah can't detect his ki."
Granolah can see him! His right eye is supposed to see blood flow and stuff. He nearly hits him multiple times. And lets not forget he was sniping them long distance and his Goku in the neck and almost took him out. Why does Granolah need aim assist now? I'll tell ya why. To make Vegeta look more impressive than Goku by making Goku look like a poor fighter. And this was a Goku who was using Ultra Instinct and still got messed up by Granolah while Vegeta is just using SSB Evolution. Character sabotage... 😒
Back to my complaints about Vegeta swimming. The swimmin' would work in OG Dragon Ball but not here. It would work on Namek with Freeza who can't sense ki, but not here with Granolah who can sense ki (& maybe even god ki) & his eye can percieve all kinds of movements of the body.
And why does Vegeta momentarily pop up out the water then go hide back into it? Don't say its 'cause he needs to catch his breath. He aparently did training holding his breath while on the Heeter's ship, so he should be fine holding his breath. It was for a short period of time anyways. It just doesn't fit and is unnecessary in multiple ways.
Vegeta Hakai's Granolah's big blast to escape it and it blows him out of the water. Interesting kinda... Until you realize that Vegeta's training that we were shown was lame. He just Hakai'd logs & rocks! It should've shown him trying to Hakai ki blasts from Beerus. Make his training look cool darn it!
Chapter 70 Established that Hakai has changed. It no longer is just erasing things from existence in different ways. It has to have a *boom* explosion to it. So when Beerus Hakai'd Zamasu in chapter 19, there should've been an explosion instead of turning him into sand? So, now whenever the Hakai is used, there will always be an explosion...? I don't like how Toyo is quick to change what he set up just for his convenience...
Granolah brags about himself then Vegeta brags about himself-...! That's why I dislike Granolah! He's just like Vegeta! Maybe if I stop thinking of Granolah as a "good guy" then he will be cooler? I did like evil Vegeta as an evil character. We were supposed to hate him. So, if I imagine Granolah as an evil Vegeta... It worked! Granolah's unappealing attitude works perfectly if you view him as an evil enemy! (Still kinda preachy tho)
VEGETA: "But I'm still going to win."
Vegeta fans rejoice! Your prayers have been answered by the great Zalama! Vegeta announced victory...! Wait... I've seen this before... Yo... Vegeta fans, prepare for Vegeta to be defeated just in case. He has a record of announcing victory then ultimately losing. Don't get your hopes up too high.
Tumblr media
Lol Granolah disses Vegeta's ego 👌. But Granolah is unknowingly talking about himself too XD. Dummies. Vegeta mocks him by calling him "Mr. Strongest" & Granolah has nothing to day. Granolah can dish it out but can't take it.
Goku wakes up and sees Vegeta fighting Granolah. Who cares? How are you gonna be caught off gaurd in a form that reacts on its own? Go back to sleep. I'm not mad at you, Goku. I'm just disappointed.
Tumblr media
Vegeta fires a barrage of ki at Granolah and Granolah Hakai's them. Then Vegeta fools Ganolah into destroying an ancient city of the Cerelians.
VEGETA: "I can tell, you know... That you only recently acquired this absurd strength."
GRANOLAH: "How? How can you tell?"
VEGETA: "Thank you for confirming."
There's the Granolah we know. Quick to give out valuable info. Also, this is to make Vegeta appear "smarter" & a "better fighter" than Goku. Realistically, a master martial artist like Goku would be first to notice that Granolah recently acquired this kind of power. But, Goku is being dumbed down for Vegeta's sake.
VEGETA: "Need I repeat myself...? You may be stronger but... there's no gaurantee that I'll lose to you!" *attempts to break Granolah's leg*
So says the guy who always loses unless the opponent is weaker than him. But, he even lost to weaker opponents on Earth before, so....
Vegeta fans calm down, calm down. This is basic Vegeta dribble. Let's be real. When has Vegeta ever defeated an opponent that was stronger than himself? Never. When has Vegeta become stronger than his opponent and defeat them because they're weaker than him now? Always. Does Vegeta ever win when he is too cocky? Nope. This is to hype y'all up. Don't be mad if he loses. Y'all know this routine. The arc ain't even over so the chances of him winning are low.
Now let's examine Vegeta's fight in comparison to Goku's fight.
Goku goes through all his forms & uses Ultra Instinct in base, SSJ, SSG, SSB, & then goes silver haired UI when fighting Granolah. Then, he loses in every form. Vegeta goes straight to Blue Evolution and only seriously gets hurt once.
Goku keeps getting hit despite having a technique that is all about evasion. Vegeta gets hit far less & doesn't have Ultra Instinct.
Goku was struggling to fight a clone that was half the power of Granolah. Vegeta fights Granolah at his full power and struggles less.
Goku complains about his training and how he is struggling using his technique. Vegeta who had less time with Hakai training isn't complaining about struggling with Hakai.
Goku far surpassed Vegeta in the Moro arc, yet they are crippling Goku to let Vegeta catch up & make him look better. Vegeta has literally gotten a handout that he didnt have to work hard for in order to catch up with Goku... This chapter is fine when isolated and you aren't thinking about any other previous chapter. But, it is a convoluted mess when you look back at the previous chapters, the piss poor storytelling, & Vegeta's poor Hakai training that leads up to this chapter.
Tumblr media
Where'd that "heroic" Vegeta and that "redemption" stuff go? Its as if Toyotaro decided he should stop tying to make Vegeta the hero & main character instead of Goku being the main. (Thank God.)
But... Vegeta says that he loves fights that are unpredictable?? That I disagree completely with. Vegeta wants fights to go in his favor through all of DBZ and will throw a fit when it doesn't.
In RoF: it was going in his favor so he loved it.
Destroyer Tournament arc: he didn't like that things didn't go his way in the end.
Future Trunks arc: he was upset when losing to Black, but loved it when he thought he was going to win.
ToP: angry when everyone else surpassed him, happy when he gained an upperhand, upset when he lost the upperhand.
Moro arc: Vegeta is upset that Moro is stronger but even more upset that Goku is stronger than him. When he is stronger than Moro he is loving it. Then when he loses the advantage, he is upset.
Vegeta doesn't love unpredictable fights, Goku does! Vegeta loves predictable fights in his favor.
Granolah asks how many lives were sacrificed for Vegeta's carnage. Vegeta doesn't answer. Why? Because its best to ignore the fact that he has killed billions of ppl so that Vegeta fans can ignore his bad actions (Yet many say that Vegeta has developed so much without acknowledging his terrible past). Can't have Vegeta looking like a bad guy in this chapter, right?
Tumblr media
Oh boy! Page 37 is more "Vegeta hype!" He doesn't care about strongest or second strongest ('cause he has never been 1st place) & he basically explains Dragon Ball to us.
Roshi already taught Goku & Krillin that there will always be somebody stronger, so they need to keep reaching higher and higher.
If Vegeta is stronger than he was a few minutes ago, would that mean the same for Goku when he was fighting? Why did he perform so poorly? I wonder... 🤔
Granolah jabs Vegeta in the stomach, but Vegeta manages to slow it down (how come Goku using Ultra Instinct couldn't do that?). And cool. Blood. Anime has better writing and cool character development/moments. The manga has blood... Well, I guess blood is cooler to some ppl.
Vegeta is looking like Goku in the ToP before he attained UI. He has his head down & all. Vegeta just isn't talking about hownl much he sucks. Why does Goku keep insulting himself? N-nevermind. This is about Vegeta who keeps complimenting himself.
Tumblr media
Why did Granolah become scared of Vegeta suddenly? Wouldn't he just see him as a mad dog and use his amazing power to put Vegeta down before he can do anything? He hates them so much, but keeps letting them live.
Uh oh... Vegeta doesn't like protecting and saving? BuT I tHoUgHt hE wAs a hErO! Where is his development going?? Ya mean the real development he had in the anime or the pseudo development in the manga?
But even after saying all that... I prefer manga Vegeta to be like this instead of a wannabe hero. Wannabe hero doesn't fit. This feels like Vegeta is in character again. I like this. I was just criticizing how Vegeta was written in past chapters in comparison to this one. A more chill Vegeta who loves battles? This is what I've wanted from DBS manga Vegeta for a long time!
Oh snap! Vegeta's transforming? I wonder what it will look like (thanks for the warning from the leaks 👍). Oil... Why are you even in this chapter? We don't care about you right now & you're boring without Maki. Goku says it ain't "any old god ki."
I wonder how Goku never knew about this new form if he and Vegeta trained on Beerus Planet together. Ya think he would've sensed and saw it & even wanted to fight against it.
So is this new form a spur of the moment thing? So Vegeta has a new form that he never trained... And he asks if Granolah has been training his new power on page 34... Sounds hypocritical of Vegeta, or he is being thrown a bone to make him look capable. Is Vegeta gonna pull a Golden Freeza by not training this new form? Or maybe a UI Goku at the ToP and lose the form?
Page 43, Granolah shoots tiny ki blasts at Vegeta's tower of flaming ki and he is surprised it did nothing. Why not try again but this time use that one big blast instead. No? Gonna let the guy of the race you hate finish transforming? Just gonna be scared and shocked to make Vegeta look impressive? Ok.
Pages 41, 44, & 45
Tumblr media
Oh! Here it is! The new form...! Aaaand I still don't like it. Also, he healed up like Goku did last chapter too. Odd. Why does transforming heal them now? Didn't before.
No build up to make the form more cool, it's just
"Here, Vegeta. Goku has one more form than you do & he has mastered UI, so we can't let you fall too far behind. So I just pulled this crap transformation fresh outa my butt and gave it to you."
Another undeserved handout. Can you please make Vegeta earn a new form in the manga? PLEASE?!
Vegeta looks like he is in his own UI Omen form (like how Vegeta fans begged for Vegeta to get for the longest time). Dark hair with sone lighter coloured higlights, light coloured pupils, new aura. But this is what I see...
SSJ3ROSÉ of DESTRUCTION INSTINCT OMEN (or just "SSJ-ChexMix" for short)
Tumblr media
Looks like in the end, Vegeta needed to resort to his own Ultra Instinct equivalent!
Tumblr media
Oh no... I criticized Vegeta's bad writing too much! I bet some Vegeta fans are gonna automatically assume that I hate him because I want him to be written better without plotholes! 😱
IN CONCLUSION:
This chapter is good when isolated on its own. But, this chapter is filled with inconsistencies when you look back at previous chapters. Overall, it's... a mixed bag that I barely like. It's just so retarded that Goku had to be dragged through the mud just for Vegeta to look better. That is insulting to Vegeta and it either shows how much he sucks or or how weak the writing for Vegeta is. But we got what we got...
Wanna know how to make Vegeta look good without making Goku look pathetic? Goku never uses MUI! Goku defeats Granolah's clone with SSB. Then, Granolah merges back with his clone & catches SSB Goku by surprise and knocks him out.
Tumblr media
Then, the reason why Vegeta seems to be doing better is because Vegeta is using SSBE, unlike SSB Goku who was caught off guard. Why make the MUI form & Goku both look like trash just to give Vegeta his own Ultra (Destructive) Intinct? Is Vegeta really that trash?! 😓😴
I don't wanna see the Heeters anymore. My hype for them died, but maybe a later chapter can make me like them more. Idk.
Where is my homie, Moniato?! 🐌 (BEST CHARACTER OF THE ARC SO FAR!)
Oh yeah...I was supposed to complain about not seeing Freeza again like I do every chapter... Who cares at this point? If Granolah is stronger than Goku & Vegeta, what can Freeza do? Hide for 3 yrs and let Granolah die?
What are my predictions for next chapter? More Vegeta wanking of course. More gloating & looking down on Granolah too. A battle of overinflated egos. Bad dialogue and decent to good art. I'll probably find it mostly boring but I may be surprised (that could be a good or bad thing). Vegeta will appear to be winning before...
Vegeta gets defeated & certain Vegeta fans will rage & be annoying. Those ones will complain about how Vegeta always gets the short end of the deal (that's what he gets for being shorter than Bulma & 12 cm taller than Krillin). This one should happen imo based off of Goku's performance.
Vegeta's fight will get interrupted before the battle ends so that Vegeta fans don't get angry. Make Vegeta fans feel that Vegeta could've won and keep them grasping on to hope. (How manipulative.) This one is most likely to happen to "satisfy" all fans.
Vegeta will win and Vegeta fans will rejoice & some will be very annoying. Despite the fact that he had terrible training, was handed a new form just to stay relevant, and Goku had to underperform & UI had to be nerfed just to make Vegeta look good. This one may happen just to appease Vegeta fans. (That is the worst outcome imo.) If Vegeta gets "a win/a W" against a main villain, make sure his training looks impressive and he has some sort of connection to the main bad guy. That way the victory feels well deserved.
If the final enemy is Freeza, then Vegeta defeating Granolah isn't "a win" against a major villain. Granolah will just be a bump in the road. He's already set up to not be a "bad guy." In the end, the main bad guy will be either Freeza, Gas, 7-3, or someone. Vegeta fans shouldn't care if Vegeta wins or loses against Granolah. He isn't the "final boss."

He intimidated me, like a lot. He's HUGE, not to mentions that humans are smaller than demons in general.
But he's actually a sweetheart, he really cares about his family and wants to see everyone happy. He's the literal definition of "gentle giant".
39. Belphegor?
Uh... He's fine i guess...? I don't have much to say about him. Pranking Lucifer with him and Satan it's fun.
40. What do you think about the other exchange students?
They're super cool! I love hanging out with them.
41. What do you think of the angels?
Luke is like a little brother to me, i care a lot about him. Simeon is always super nice to me and i like him, i like the relationship Luke and him have, it's really sweet.
42. What about the other human, Solomon?
He's cool! We don't get to spend much time togheter though... I kind of want him to teach me magic hahah! *Giggles*
43. Do you prefer humans, demons or angels?
I don't have a preference.
44. Would you like to keep in touch with your friends after the exchange program?
Yeah absolutely!
45. Is there a place in the human world you would like to take them?
Well, there are quite a bit actually... If i had to choose one i'd say Gardaland, it's an amusement park in Italy.
46. Why is that?
I don't know, i feel like they would enjoy it as much as i do. I've been going there since i was a child and i never get tired of it, last time i went there it was like 3/4 before coming to the Devildom, so very recently.
47. Do you feel any sort of connection with this park?
I have a lot of happy memories there, so that's why i love that place so much. There's also a restaurant on the western area that makes an amazing pizza! I know the place by heart now hahah!
48. Did you enjoy this exchange year?
Yeah i did!
49. Do you plan on visiting the Devildom again?
If given the chance yes, i don't know how to get into the Devildom.
50. Allright we're done! Is there something else you want to say to our readers?
No, i'm good.
~interviewer: allright! Thank you so much for your time!
Ciel: no problem i had fun!~

Also remember Jahn literally saw all of his comrades killed during the fiercest battle of the Scouring and as far as he knows from Zephiel, is the last true dragon, PERIOD. That would make someone distrustful. Imagine a Vietnam vet stranded on an island for years..whom also thinks they're the last person of their race alive and the enemy still wants to kill them, you try talking sense to them. Short version, Athos circumstances were much difference than Jahn's.
Well, so Jahn doesn't consider Idunn to be a true dragon?
Because he and his comrades destroyed her soul or because she was a divine dragon, thus not a "regular" dragon like him?
I doubt a Vietnam vet could send illusions from his stranded island to look for someone, but supposing he can because he drank some sort of radioactive Dr Pepper -
He thinks he is the last person of his race alive, save for the mute and recluse old woman living near, whom he and his division, uh, abused to the point where she lost her soul.
Roy, a young vietnamese man, asks him to tell him his story. Jahn doesn't see why not, and accepts if Roy proves himself worthy, that is manages to survive and capture 6 flags.
If Jahn thinks Roy is out to kill him, he would not be bothering with this farce and would have killed him before telling him his story, but maybe he is really bored - the old broken woman sadly doesn't talk a lot. Also, earlier, Jahn met Zephiel, an older vietnamese man, who didn't want to kill him on spot. So he knows they're not all trying to kill him.
-Roy listens to the vet's story, and the vet even manages to explain that everything he was taught in his highschool was bullshit. He still manages to slip some disgusting takes like "you vietnamese people are truly odd and don't think like we do".
At one point, Jahn fully embraces his nauseabond views and says "vietnamese and american people can never live together in harmony, the gap between our species is impossible to fill."
Roy, in 2021, tells him it is nonsense, everyone can live together, he went to Chuck'n'Cheese in Dubai where he met both people from those different states eat the same junk food, and in his group, one of his love interest has an american and a vietnamese parent!
Jahn pulls out his rifle gun : "Rubbish… I have no intention of listening to such nonsense."

If you just TOLD Athos about Arcadia rather than SHOWING it to him, I'm 100% sure he'd react just like Jahn did. Note he specifically mentions trying to deny what his eyes showed him, Jahn never went to Arcadia.
This is where I disagree anon, I don't think Athos, if someone told him about Arcadia, would answer with "I refuse to hear any of this" and "Now, enter my domain. Let us see who has more power!"
Maybe he would not believe it. "I can't believe it," "It can't be real", "This must be a mirage", "Is it a trap?" or "You're lying".
Not "I don't want to hear this".
can we add to the irony that athos was traveling with a dragon fucker and didn't want to believe dragons and humans could live together? granted, i'm not sure nergal told him about his wife and kids

For someone always talking about Edelgard's prejudice against lizards, you're remarkably pro-Scouring/Anti the sole shellshocked survivor of the war that not only destroyed his entire society, but basically wiped out his race.
Ah.
First of all, Edel's prejudice reeks of racism, and I am in no way defending of being pro anyone who says "X must be erased because of their race".
Jahn's side lost the war, yes, in a way, he is a victim of the Scouring.
On the other hand, clinging to his old prejudiced beliefs and refusing to listen to someone telling you that maybe everyone can live together, to the point of using force against him by making six altars with illusions before asking him to fight is... being too stubborn, to put it lightly.
Also, the war didn't destroy Idunn.
Jahn and his comrades did.
He know Idunn is still alive, and knows Divine Dragons ran away - so he knows he is not, technically, the Last Dragon. But Idunn isn't a Dragon anymore, because Jahn and his comrades destroyed her soul.
If you want to compare to FE16, Rhea, despite being a survivor from a human led genocide, still believes in them and cares about them. She might have doubts that they can all live together, but she doesn't want to eradicate them.
Macuil is the closest dragon, he is sour and hates humans for what they did. He doesn't tell his story to Claude and pals - he tells them to fig off his lawn, and when they don't, he becomes violent.
But Macuil wasn't seen attacking a human who said "humans and nabateans were both brought to this world, they can understand each other". Macuil didn't crush Rhea's crest stone to turn her in a mindless beast to birth infinite White Beasts to fight against humans.
Edel and Roy are complete opposites - both Edel and Jahn are prejudiced and don't want to change, Roy wants everyone to live together.
Yes, Jahn might be justified in thinking Roland wants to kill him, thus react negatively to his words, but Roy isn't Roland.
Rhea, Seteth, Flayn and Indech all know Catherine isn't Charon, and don't want to kill her for what her ancestor did, nor fear that she will transform them in a portable knife like Charon did with their sibling.
In short : I'm not dissing on Jahn because he is a dragon and a victim of a war that saw a majority of his race disappear -
I am dissing on Jahn because he is prejudiced and refuses to reconsider that dragons and humans can live together, to the point of killing (if he could) the naive idiot who came to his lair, listened to his story and came up with this answer.
I am also dissing on him because while he thinks dragons don't have emotions, save for very specific ones, he does not seem to regret or mocks the pity given to Idunn, another naive idiot he and his allies destroyed, to the point where Jahn himself doesn't consider her a dragon anymore.
