How to write angst ?
@urfriendlywriter | req by @everynowandthenihaveacrisis @aidyaiden :)
know your character. from their deepest fears to what they cherish the most. know your deepest fear, ask yourself how you will react and feel at that moment. "oh shit, if this happened to me I'll lose my mind" what's that type of scenario for you? write it. :)
decide on the type of angst you are going for!
major, minor, physical, emotional, paranormal, spiritual, verbal, abusive, quarrel, misunderstanding, etc.
and then, decide on--what reaction you can take out of your character by doing what to them.
are they gonna be, held at a gunpoint to give something up? or have their soul wrecked by whom they thought were close to them? or is it going be horror, or etctec, decide on it.
moving on to actually writing it-
Tip 1 - Use sensory details.
her eyes brimmed with tears
his chest heaved
pain clawed at his heart, as his face twisted with hurt
his scream pierced my heart
her lips quivered
she dug her nails into her palms (to distract herself, to stop it from shaking, etc)
show what is happening to ur MC, instead of telling it.
Tip 2 - how to actually write it.
If they're panicking, make them notice too many things at once, show every detail that they're seeing, feeling, from touch, to that burning sensation on their eyes, the blood on the ground, that dryness of their throat, the buzzing in their head and their parted lips unable to trust their own sight, and--and, boom! have them register that they're really really in trouble. and that they've to act fast.
use short, very minimal type of writing for this. make it long, but not long enough that it feels like it's being dragged.
the readers should hold themselves back from skimming the page out of curiousity, they should be in their toes to find out what happens next.
what does your MC do in times of panic? do they chant calm down to themselves, do they get angry, or start crying.. or?? what makes your character genuinely feel an emotion so hard that they'll burst?
there's always something, someone that'll always give them love and easily can be that something or someone to take it away. yk.
Tip 3 - crying.
what is close to your character that u can deprive them of? will it make them cry? beg for it?
what will make ur character cry so hard, that their scream fills everyone's ear, stays in their minds like ghosts and always haunts them?
make a character who never cries, burst out with tears.
while writing crying, focus on the 5 senses, one after the other.
focus it on their breath, make them run out of breath, gasp for air, feel like they're being choked, cry so scrutinizingly. it shud punch the reader's gut.
have them replay what had just happened over and over again in their head
best books and writing styles (for angst) to analyse and learn from (in my opinion);
3rd book in the AGGTM series (yk it hit hard like a truck. it got me depressed in bed the entire time lmao)
Five Survive by Holly Jackson. The moments of red outside of the truck, and moments leading to it.
there's this book called " Warm by @untalentedwriter127 " in wattpad. the author served angst for breakfast, lunch anddd dinner.
and if there's more angsty ones, drop em in the comments! :)
Hope this helps, tag me when yall write a masterpiece! ;)

things people do after having a nightmare that isn’t crying
struggle to catch their breath
grab onto whatever’s close enough to ground themselves in reality
become nauseous / vomit
shake uncontrollably
sweat buckets
get a headache
things people do to combat having nightmares if they occur commonly
sleep near other people so they can hear the idle sounds of them completing tasks
move to a different sleeping spot than where they had the nightmare
leave tvs / radios / phones on with noise
just not sleep (if you want to go the insomnia route)
sleep during the day in bright rooms
things people with insomnia do
first, obviously, their ability to remember things and their coordination will go out the window
its likely they’ll become irritable or overly emotional
their body will start to ache, shake, and weaken
hallucinate if it’s been long enough
it becomes incredibly easy for them to get sick (and they probably will)

so rude that fantasizing about writing alone is not enough to actually get the fic done. you have to actually sit down and write it. insane.

-:“Can we please just talk?” Post argument make-up talk prompts:-
(You know who needs this? YOU KNOW WHO NEEDS THIS?! AZIRAPHALE AND CROWLEY! *sobs*)
By @me-writes-prompts
"Look, I'm really sorry for shouting at you. I just...I just lost control. But it wasn't your fault, it was me. Please forgive me?"
"We really shouldn't have fought over a piece of dumpling, don't you think so?" "Yeah, that was rather a vague topic to argue over." (Vmin, anyone?)
"I'm really sorry, I wasn't in the right mind and vent it out on you."
"Are you still mad at me? I mean, it's okay if you are. I'm mad at myself, too."
"Can we talk?" "Yeah, yeah. Let's do that."
"I didn't mean to say you're not enough, okay? Because you are, but I am not. I am not enough to appreciate a person like you."
"I really wasn't thinking straight, now was I? I'm sorry. You shouldn't have to put up with my shit. I'll be better for you."
"Are you calm now?" "Yeah, sorry. Needed to take a time out."
Kissing as apologizing but then also expressing it in words.
Angry cuddles, because they are cold. Definitely not because they want the warmth their partner provides.
"That was a really silly argument we had last night, right?" “Hmm, yet we couldn’t stop the topic.” They try to joke.

Dark writing prompts
Some dark writing prompts for the cold winter days :) Number five is my favorite. I wrote a short story about it once. Which one is your favorite?
In a world where emotions are harvested as a powerful energy source, a secret society emerges, exploiting the pain and suffering of individuals to fuel their dark ambitions.
A mysterious antique mirror appears in an old, abandoned house. Anyone who gazes into it experiences glimpses of their worst fears coming to life. What happens when the mirror falls into the wrong hands?
In a dystopian future, a government experiment to control crime goes horribly wrong. Citizens start experiencing their darkest impulses as physical manifestations, leading to chaos and destruction.
A cursed town is shrouded in perpetual darkness, and every year, a single resident must willingly sacrifice themselves to lift the curse for a brief moment. This year, the chosen one has a secret that could change everything.
A talented artist discovers that their paintings have the power to alter reality. However, with each stroke of the brush, a piece of their soul is consumed, leaving them on the brink of madness.
A small community is plagued by a series of unexplainable events, each linked to a children's nursery rhyme. As the rhyme predicts the next tragedy, the townsfolk desperately try to break the curse before it claims them all.
A scientist creates a device that allows people to relive their happiest memories. However, as they delve deeper into the technology, they uncover a hidden layer of forgotten, traumatic experiences that could shatter lives.
In a post-apocalyptic world, survivors discover an underground bunker containing a mysterious machine that claims to offer a chance at resurrection. However, the price to bring someone back is the sacrifice of another life.
A cursed book is said to grant its reader unimaginable knowledge, but at the cost of their sanity. As a desperate scholar seeks its pages, they must confront the malevolent entity within that hungers for their mind.
A detective investigates a series of gruesome murders that seem to be connected by a chilling pattern. As they get closer to the truth, they realize the killer might be something otherworldly, feeding on the fear they instill in their victims.

Fan-Fiction: Warning the Reader About Content
Anonymous asked: Hi, I'm writing a fic that deals with a pretty excruciating topic, I don't want to do it too explicitly, but not superficially either. The suffering of the protagonist could cause upset readers, so what do you suggest I do to warn them without spoilers and without discouraging reading? (Because as already said it's not too graphic, so I wouldn't want to warn too excessively.) Also, how can I write something angsty and still be believable? I don't want it to be overly melodramatic but I don't want it to be superficial either
[Ask edited for length.]
If you're writing fan-fiction and are posting it to a fiction sharing site like AO3, there are tagging protocols in place for story content, so you would need to look at what's required or typical for users of the site.
If you're posting it to a site like tumblr, you will want to do some research on how content warnings and tags are handled on that site specifically. For example, on tumblr, if the character is going to experience domestic abuse, you would at the very least use the hashtag trigger warning for domestic abuse, which you will see me use (among others) in this post because of the content we're discussing.
Depending on what you're posting and where, you may also choose to do an author's note to give the reader additional warning. Again, using domestic abuse as an example, you could do something like, "Author's note: while the protagonist in this story does experience domestic abuse, it is not explicit and most of it occurs off the page." This gives the reader an idea of what to expect on top of the relevant trigger warnings/content warnings and appropriate tagging.
As far as how to properly portray the situation with the right amount of angst but without melodrama, it's a good idea to do some research on the situation you're trying to portray. It's very helpful if you can find a guide to portraying a character with that experience, and even more helpful if you can find firsthand experiences via interviews, blog posts, etc. where people discuss their feelings during and after the experience. You may also wish to use a sensitivity reader who can vet your portrayal and make sure it isn't inauthentic or harmful
I hope that helps!

exes to lovers prompts
as requested these are more angsty! i have a more humorous one in my pinned. free to use :)
the moment they see each other and all the hurt rises to the surface
“are we really giving this another chance?”
“i don’t know if this is the right thing to do.” “don’t say that.”
“you scare me. giving you this chance again scares me, you know?”
“i loved you, you know. did i ever tell you that?” “no, you didn’t.”
“you think it’s my fault we broke up?” “well, it’s not mine.”
“i needed you.” “and i hated being needed, because sometimes i wanted to just vent to you and i felt like i couldn’t because i was supposed to be that person for you.”
“i didn’t want perfect. i wanted you to be there for me.”
“i’m sorry. and i’m sorry it took me so long to say it.”
“i’m sorry i didn’t show you how much you meant to me when i had the chance.”
“i’m sorry i made you feel like xyz was more important than you. i don’t need any of it, okay?”
“i was my best with you.” “you shouldn’t have had to have me to be your best. you should be your best by yourself first.”
after getting back together and it’s a little rocky, a whispered conversation like, “what if this was a mistake?”
“see? we’re arguing now, even. we were never good for each other.”
“what can i do? how can i fix this?”
this was your problem! we fought and you thought that meant we shouldn’t be together. couples fight. fighting is healthy.”
^ that’s an important point. have them have conversations about the fact that love actually takes work; it’s a verb, not only a feeling
“open up to me, name. please.” “i don’t want you to hurt me again.”
like i said for my other ex prompt list… do they stay back together? why or why not?
why did they break up? is it actually something that can be overcome? keep in mind the former reason they broke up is good material for conflict
for help with this as well, check out my healthy relationship prompt list in my pinned :’) happy writing!

Some of my favorite words and phrases to describe a character in pain
coiling (up in a ball, in on themselves, against something, etc)
panting (there’s a slew of adjectives you can put after this, my favorites are shakily, weakly, etc)
keeling over (synonyms are words like collapsing, which is equally as good but overused in media)
trembling/shivering (additional adjectives could be violently, uncontrollably, etc)
sobbing (weeping is a synonym but i’ve never liked that word. also love using sob by itself, as a noun, like “he let out a quiet sob”)
whimpering (love hitting the wips with this word when a character is weak, especially when the pain is subsiding. also love using it for nightmares/attacks and things like that)
clinging (to someone or something, maybe even to themselves or their own clothes)
writhing/thrashing (maybe someone’s holding them down, or maybe they’re in bed alone)
crying (not actual tears. cry as in a shrill, sudden shout)
dazed (usually after the pain has subsided, or when adrenaline is still flowing)
wincing (probably overused but i love this word. synonym could be grimacing)
doubling-over (kinda close to keeling over but they don’t actually hit the ground, just kinda fold in on themselves)
heaving (i like to use it for describing the way someone’s breathing, ex. “heaving breaths” but can also be used for the nasty stuff like dry heaving or vomiting)
gasping/sucking/drawing in a breath (or any other words and phrases that mean a sharp intake of breath, that shite is gold)
murmuring/muttering/whispering (or other quiet forms of speaking after enduring intense pain)
hiccuping/spluttering/sniffling (words that generally imply crying without saying crying. the word crying is used so much it kinda loses its appeal, that’s why i like to mix other words like these in)
stuttering (or other general terms that show an impaired ability to speak — when someone’s in intense pain, it gets hard to talk)
staggering/stumbling (there is a difference between pain that makes you not want to stand, and pain that makes it impossible to stand. explore that!)
recoiling/shrinking away (from either the threat or someone trying to help)
pleading/begging (again, to the threat, someone trying to help, or just begging the pain to stop)
Feel free to add your favorites or most used in the comments/reblogs!

Jealous Friends/Enemies in love - 60 Prompts
Directory Writing Masterlist Blog Etiquette Buy me a Ko-Fi?
Tumblr media
"Oh, look who's here, playing the doting friend as always."
"I see you've found a new source of entertainment. Trying to replace me?"
"Don't think I didn't notice how cozy you've become with them."
"How convenient, showing up whenever they need you."
"You've been spending quite a lot of time with them lately. Anything you'd like to share?"
"I never realized how protective you are of them. Almost like you have something to hide."
"I can't help but wonder if you're just using them to make me jealous."
"You're always so quick to defend them. What's the real reason behind your loyalty?"
"You seem to light up around them. Is there something more going on?"
"Are you trying to make me believe you're not interested? Because I'm not buying it."
"Oh, don't mind me. I'm just the friend who's been pushed aside for someone new."
"You're good at pretending, aren't you? Pretending that you're not hopelessly in love with them."
"It's funny how you get so defensive when I bring up their name."
"I saw the way they looked at you. Do you really think they're just a friend?"
"I thought we had something special, but it seems like you're moving on."
"I've noticed how much they make you smile. Is that why you're always 'busy' with them?"
"Don't act innocent. You know exactly what you're doing."
"You're always so eager to please them. What lengths will you go to?"
"I thought rivalry was our thing, but it seems like you've found a new obsession."
"I can't help but wonder what they offer that I don't."
"You never cared this much before. Why now?"
"You've changed since you started spending time with them. Is it because of their influence?"
"Funny how you're so quick to dismiss my concerns. Afraid I'll hit too close to home?"
"I've seen the way you watch them when you think no one's looking."
"Is it just me, or do you get a little too possessive around them?"
"I thought we were enemies, but it seems like you're my biggest rival for their attention."
"You're always so eager to prove yourself to them. Why is that?"
"They're lucky to have a friend like you. Or is there more to it than that?"
"You're always on their side, even when they're clearly in the wrong."
"I can't help but wonder what it would take for you to admit your feelings for them."
"Did you just show up conveniently, or is this another act in your never-ending drama?"
"I see you've got a new favorite person to save. Is it my turn to be worried?"
"Frequent hangouts with them, huh? Trying to win the award for 'Most Supportive'?"
"You're awfully invested in their life lately. What's the fascination?"
"Funny how you always seem to pop up when they're around."
"So, how long has this new 'friendship' been going on?"
"Oh, don't mind me – I'm just the one you used to spend all your time with."
"You've been on their side more than you've ever been on mine."
"Seeing you light up around them is... interesting."
"Either I'm blind, or there's something brewing between you two."
"I thought we were supposed to be partners in crime, but it seems you've moved on."
"Don't think I didn't notice the shift in your priorities."
"I'm not naive – I can tell when you're trying to impress them."
"Caught their attention, have you? Tell me all about it."
"You seem to be their personal bodyguard these days. What's the deal?"
"Funny how they've turned into your favorite topic of conversation."
"Oh, it's a competition now? Trying to win their undivided attention?"
"I thought rivalry was our thing. Now it's turned into something... else?"
"I've seen that look before. What's cooking between you two?"
"You're quick to get defensive when their name comes up. Interesting."
"Why the sudden need to play the hero for them?"
"They've managed to change you – and not necessarily for the better."
"You're acting like you've got a secret you're not sharing."
"You've been practicing your 'innocent' look whenever they're around, huh?"
"Trying to deny it? I've seen the sparks between you two."
"Enemies turned allies? Or is it something more than that?"
"I've been around long enough to know when someone's trying to replace me."
"There's something different about you – is it them?"
"You're almost too eager to be in their good books. What's the motivation?"
"Do they even know how much energy you're spending on their behalf?"

:-“What are we?” Prompts-:
Cw: suggestive
By @me-writes-prompts
“Whatever you want us to be.”
“Good old pals who don’t want to admit their feelings for each other. That’s what we are.”
“Enemies. I mean, what else could we be?”
“Young and dumb.”
“Hmmm. You tell me.”
“Not this question again.”
“Coffee lovers.” “Lovers?”
“Work colleagues. What else?”
“Interesting. What exactly are we?”
“Childhood best friends.” “I mean, yes. But, what about something more?”
“Rivals, is my guess.”
“Two awkward nerds who can’t communicate about their feelings?”
“Whatever the fuck they call people that are not-yet-lovers-but-still-kiss-and-have-sex-sometimes. Friends with benefits, is it?”
“I mean…we’re friends, right?”
“Jeez, the last time you asked this question, we ended up arguing about it for hours.”
“Nah uh, we’re not going there today.”
“I know you’re not asking this question after we’ve been married for 7 years. Goodness.”
“Ummm, I don’t know. What do you think we are?”
“Idiots in love.”
“We are confused. That’s what we are right now, and that’s okay.”
“No, the right question is “what could we be?”
“We’re gay.”
