“Uh…”

Your monotonous confusion startles Shoto from… whatever he was doing, and as he quickly turns to face you, he smiles softly before turning right back to it. “Whatcha doing there, Sho?”

“I’m swaddling,” he says casually, grunting in frustration as if he messed up, and he undoes the small, yellow blanket to restart the process all over again. “I need to be ready for when our own child is here, and I’ve wasted so much time reading how-to’s online that I’ve lost at least two months of practice.”

“Shoto,” you say, hand coming up to cover your mouth from any giggles that want to pour though. “That’s a watermelon.”

“It’s the best I could do in a pinch.”

“But a watermelon is so…” you motion your fingers around in an attempt to find the correct words, and he spins on his heel to watch you in amusement. “Watermelon shaped.”

“And babies are just so baby shaped,” he hums, turning back to the watermelon.

“Yes, but they’re also squishy, like bread, or malleable like rice or… baby shaped, like Miydoria’s son.”

His hands still in realization, his face dropped into a blank, emotionless indifference, and before you can ask him what’s wrong, he drops the blanket and smacks his face with his hands.

“Oh my god I’m going to be the worst father.”

“No,” you say instantly, firmly, and you quickly make your way over to him. Your arms wrap around his waist and you burrow your head into the dip of his back. “We’re not playing that game, Shoto. You’re going to be an amazing father.”

“I saw a watermelon and immediately thought that would be a suitable filler for a child.”

“Shoto-“

He immediately brings his hands to his hair, “oh god, what if I mistake our baby for a watermelon at night!”

You snort and squeeze him tighter, “there are far too many layers to unpack in that sentence, so let me just tell you that you’re going to be an amazing father.”

“You don’t know that.”

“I do.”

“You don’t.”

“I sure do.”

“You don’t.”

“I can play this all day baby,” you snort, and he grumbles something under his breath. “I wouldn’t have wanted to start a family with you if I thought you wouldn’t be a good father.”

“You wanted to start a family with me because your mother doesn’t like me.”

“That too,” you snort, even though both of you know that’s not true. “But really, Sho. I want to spend my life with you; having a tiny spawn of our own is just part of that.”

His shoulders start to shake with a few chuckles, and he scrubs his eyes in defeat. “Spawn?”

“Is that not the term you’d use?”

“It certainly is not.” Despite his minor scold, he rolls his shoulders back and takes a few inhales in. “I just…” he pauses, and you hum in patience. “I want them to love me. I want to be the best I can for them.”

“You will be-“

“And part of that is soothing the baby.” His mind is derailing back quickly. You can feel it in the tenseness of his back.

“Shoto-“

“And swaddling them is supposed to keep them warm, so I thought that would be the best way to sooth-“

“Shoto,” you interrupt with a soothe, rubbing his shoulders. He finally shuts up, his shoulders still tense. “There’s no doubt in my mind that you’ll be able to soothe our baby, swaddling or not.”

“You’re right,” he sighs shakily. “With my quirk, I’ll be able to alter my temperature to make them comfortable, even if I don’t know how to swaddle-“

“No, Shoto,” you chuckle, kissing the back of his neck. “You’ll be able to soothe the baby because you’re going to be an amazing father.”

He tenses under your words once more, and he shyly turns to look at you with wide, puppyish eyes. “You really think so?” He asks, fiddling with the edge of the blanket.

“I know so, Shoto.”

still thinking about little shouto who looks up to his big brother! touya in an alternate universe 💭

how he would always think, his big brother is so cool, 'i wanna be like him someday!' how he would always follow touya wherever he goes, his little feet padding on their floor trying to keep up with his brother's long stride. how he always wants to spend time with him.

copying some of his mannerisms and habits. looking up to his brother with wide eyes, like he just hangs the stars and holds the universe in his arms.

it was so cute :(( how he would always wear his brother's clothes that didn't seem to fit him and would always get caught by rei, when she realizes her youngest son is being too quiet. she would always tell him that it would be their little secret.

how every time you see him, when you visit their home, he would always ask you what his big brother does when he's out doing patrols & hero works. eagerly listening as you narrate to him how his big brother saves the day.

would definitely play heroes with you — you being a civilian that is yet to be saved by the mighty hero, shoto! and with the very evil villain, natsou! who kidnapped the dear civilian!! and together with his sidekick, fuyumi. and the house would be filled with lots of screaming and laughing from the four of you — it was a very chaotic sight to see.

and touya would be seeing all of you in the living room in a pile trying to save you from the grasp of natsou and fuyumi. and his little brother who seems to be wearing little parts of his hero costume that he left on that day. a smile creeping up to his face, as he announces his arrival, joining all of you to your little play. with him as a bigger villain, trying to steal you away.

and shoto's smile couldn't even get any bigger. as he plays his role to be up against the big bad terrible villain. he would be copying some of his moves. he really loves his big brother :((

Ooh, thanks for the ask! Hope you like it!

“Good night, my love,” Shouto said as he hung up the phone. His brothers immediately started snickering. 

“When’s the wedding?” 

Shouto had no clue what Touya was talking about, and his face was scrunched up in confusion. “What wedding?” 

“Yours and Momo’s,” Natsuo answered, and muttered something Shouto didn’t catch. His brother was on his left side. 

The youngest of the Todorokis opened his mouth to say something when his phone started ringing. “Hold on, Momo is calling me again.” Touya and Natsuo laughed again, and this time Fuyumi looked up from the papers she was grading to tell them to knock it off. They started again at Shouto’s goofy smile when he heard Momo’s voice. “Hi, is something wrong?”

“I don’t think so. But… well, before you hung up the phone, you called me something different.” She didn’t sound upset, but not exactly happy. Shouto wasn’t sure what she was talking about. 

“I always call you ‘love.’” 

“No, didn’t just call me ‘love’ this time, you said ‘my love.’ It… there’s a huge difference.” 

“I did?” 

“You said ‘my love,’” Touya shouted, to be sure Shouto would hear around the phone. 

“Was that Touya?” Momo laughed. 

“I’m sorry, I didn’t realize. I won’t do it again.” After all, she wouldn’t call if it weren’t an issue. 

“No, no, don’t apologize, dear! It sounded nice! I just wasn’t sure if you realized.” 

“Oh. Um, no, I didn’t… my love?” 

“See, it sounds cute! Sorry I worried you. See you in class tomorrow, Shouto.” 

He repeated the farewell before hanging up again, sighing and smiling as he leaned back into the couch. Touya started humming ‘Here Comes the Bride,’ but Shouto didn’t notice.

Had a sudden bnha thought while working on my doctoral project: What if the whole Todoroki family is going to rescue Touya? I think the story could be headed there, which is EXCITING and fitting for the family's narrative. Touya is near the area where the rest of his family is, and Shouto is on his way there... all those ice quirks in his family, and just their presence, coming together to save him from his own (inherited) flames 😭 ❤️ 💙
