You wake up in new world and the first thing you see is... Bakugou katsuki?

Okay so imagine y/n wakes up in a field, tthe plants are wild and the smell is oddly fresh she hears a sound and focuses on it while her eyes are still closed

She notices it sounds familiar and immediately bolts upright

Which makes her dizzy and she then winces and holds her head in her hand

The voice stops and she opens her eyes to see shes in someone’s s shadow

It’s bakugou and he’s looking down at her

Her heart rate quickens and before she can say anything hes like “huh ur finally awake. About dam time”

She’s confused because like wtf is happeningggg??and then she feels a little heat in her palm

She looks down to see little flames dancing across her fingertips,and they’re purple not blue or red or orange

Bakugou looks up after hearing her gasp and then even hes taken aback

She asks him how this could happen and he says its the fabled “wayfinder flame” a power that has only been granted to those who were truly lost

He explains that she really must be “really fuckin lost” if this flame has found her

And she explains how she’s not from that world and isnt even sure how she got there

He listens

And then finally agrees to help her find her way

Shes taken aback because “omg bakugou katsuki wants to help me???” But he just wants to know more about the flame and when she asks how hes gonna help her he rolls his eyes and explains how the flame actually works

It burns brighter and hotter and grows more powerful as its wielder finds their way home

Wherever that may be.

He also says that this power is rarer than “a fucking full moon” because according to the lore the only thing stopping everyone from getting this is they must first be “completely utterly and hopelessly lost for it find them” not just a certain feeling of being lost that fades away after time

And as they go on

They fight monsters meet people and grow closer

All the while the flame is growing stronger (i mean that literally AND as a metaphor for their feelings for eachother!)

The finale

They reach a lake

The water is black,a stark contrast to its beautiful surroundings but the reader feels a pull to it and katsuki has a bad feeling

She feels it call to her

And just as he remembers why its dangerous , she’s already jumped in

Its the pool of the damned

No one who goes in ever comes out

Katsuki jumps in to save her and he sees everything

Her life that lead up to this moment

Why she was feeling lost, all her moments of pain ,all her lows

He sees it in the water and in the distance he can see it all drowning her

He pushes through and swims through the abyss and saves her

But when he brings her out she’s not breathing

So he does uk

Cpr mouth to mouth

And his wakes her up

And as they deepen the kiss the lake clears and a figure emmerges

It looks like a fairy but katsuki just sees a ball of light

It tells her that she is truly found,now and asks if she wishes to return home

The being even opens up a portal to show how they’re the real deal

And y/n looks at it.. she contemplates going back but she chooses not to

She’s found her home

Yes

But it isnt back in her world

Its katsuki

Shes found her home in him

After letting the being know of her decision,the being seems to smile.it doesnt have a face but they both know its smiling

And then is disappears

Katsuki asks if shes sure about this

And she says she’s never been sure about anything more

And they kiss one last time

From there on out they were together

And they became the fiercest warriors that land had ever known

Him,well being him, and her with her now infinitely powerful flame!

4. What's your favorite part of DMing?

i find it all so incredibly enjoyable but i think the best part is making things that are so Targeted for pcs / players and then they go crazy over it <333 like wow i get to be telling stories that are specifically for my friends!!!! and like yalls level of investment has been sooooo rewarding it makes me more emo & feel more loved than i can say <333 ive been a creative all my life but nothing has felt as good to make as lost township

5. Do you have a favorite NPC? Or type of NPC?

evil question ,,,, and like genuinely i really enjoy most of the npcs. like i find something to like or be interested in with all of them or else why would i hand them off to yall. ive definitely spent the most time with lizzie just bc of player engagement (yall know who you are)(she did not even have a character sheet in arc 1) but i think its unfortunately obvious my favorite archetype is dyke paladin with religious trauma and many things wrong with her. and i wont apologize for that.

9. What's your favorite thing your players do?

interact with the world and the plot in ways that are less about moving the plot forward and more about really inhabiting the characters. like arc 1 was very much a contained murder mystery and i think yall still did a great job with yalls characters but were very focused on Solving The Plot and i feel like in arc 2 yall have really stretched your wings and let your characters loose in a way thats just so so fun. has it taken forever to get to plot reveals Yes but its so worth it when yalls little guys are just being insane on screen for hours at a time

ough,,,

cass: so intimidated. but also curious? quiet middle aged woman with some sort of strange foreign magic florence doesnt recognize and i think florence Wants to talk to her but will not approach first. shes clearly going through something but has mostly been keeping to herself and florence is not gonna be the one to break that

divine: she wants to be in divines good graces so bad,,, shes a wittle scared of divine but in the like. outcast girl vs popular cheerleader type of way and she definitely thinks of divine as the leader of the group. as wolf vs deer shes trying really hard not to scare divine but is maybe showing her belly a little too much. she thinks that if divine doesnt like her the rest of the party will follow suit. just feels kind of dumb and tongue tied around her

onion: shes so fuckin scared to talk to onion now. she already just really didnt know what the vibe was and then found out onion was fey and was like cool fairies are real i guess and then onion went into the First flashback and she snapped him out of it and onion immediately changed the subject to talk to her about lizzie and let her know lizzie is okay which she appreciated but is feeling very mixed up about, especially rolling so high on onion to get ,,,, A Vibe with onionlizzie. AND THEN THE SECOND FLASHBACK HAPPENED BECAUSE SHE WAS TRYING TO BE NICE TO HIM and now onion seems Unhappy and is Booking It and florence is like okay !! i fucked up !! dunno what to do now !! so shes probably just not gonna try to talk to them again unless they approach her first and she has a very clear direction for how the conversation should go. she feels sooooo bad but is also. Worried. not a good thing to get triggered by babyboy!!

tenny: she has no fucking idea how to feel about tenny. she knows tenny isnt human and tenny seems to have some sort of connection to animals / monsters and she knows tenny was being held captive in the blasting company so theres clearly Something going on there. but tenny is really keeping to her little squad and i think again its like. florence will talk to her if tenny approaches her first but shes not going to make first contact because her role in this group feels so tenuous already

will: shes autism imprinted on him. i think will is the only one in the group she actually just feels comfortable around and shes wondering why he's so different from oliver. she had definitely heard of him before while in silvermoon and then actually meets him and hes just very kind and caring and reassuring and shes definitely going to stick as close by him as she can. shes nervous or unsure or intimidated by everyone else there but will tried to calm and reassure her after she triggered onion and seems to be the person trying to take care of everyone on the trip. dog bonded to that sad old man. shes also hoping that if shes good with will maybe oliver will be less scary at her

25. Do they believe in love?

fucked up question. i think she thinks that love is duty & work & effort & loyalty and that its not meant to be easy or always fair but you just stick it out anyway and put more elbow grease in until it works. i think shes very used to being the one putting more of the work into relationships and does not necessarily see that pattern or that its a problem. shes dated and shes had flings but shes never had romantic love and she does not think its in the cards for her. she has her sisters back and she thinks she just needs to be grateful for that and not ask for more

30. What are their thoughts on justice?

interesting ... i think florence thinks justice is like. a nice ideal to keep in your head when youre making decisions but ultimately not a force thats like. Real. in the world. shes seen too many bad people be celebrated and too many innocent people suffer to think that justice is something that actually has any power in the world. the wolf pack is much more about Balance than any sort of actual goodness or fairness so even her temple never really purported itself as having justice as an ideal. the closest to that in wolfsden is sidewinder and florence has seen firsthand that his domain is not really enforced in any way

i do actually really really like Ray Chase as kara but the way that Nakamura pitches his voice down for him and then when something karamatsu isnt like. prepared for or whatever happens he goes back up into his regular vocal range or sometimes a bit higher really adds to karamatsu's whole. everything HJGKHFJGH LIKE his whole identity pretty much IS performance so even his voice being part of his front is so fun to me, Ray Chase's voice feels so naturally deep and smooth that its like. his voice is Too Cool for kara yknow like his voice being Actually cool? karamatsu fucking wishes JHKGJFGHD BUT i do think he is one of the better choices that the casting directors made compared to the rest of the brothers

(AGAIN NOT SHITTING ON THESE EXTREMELY PROLIFIC AND TALENTED VA'S this is just my opinion of them as the ososan characters)

like i said before i have Absolutely zero qualms with Max Mittelman as Totty literally thats a match made in heaven I think he was perfect for the role n absolutely killed it hes so funny and from what ive seen the writers actually gave him so many good lines big ups for todo likers

Kyle McCarley as Ichimatsu i honestly havent seen much of his performance but god did he put is whole pussy into the one episode where he INSISTS they have to respect each other, hes honestly really really good at maintaining the monotone voice while also conveying a lot of emotion through his voice its pretty impressive that he can do the yellingscreaming while keeping that up, Fukuyama Jun's like. jump from monotone to YEEEAAGHHK when ichimatsu is At His Limit is really really funny so i think that these two are pretty much on par with each other while putting their own spin on how the character . i dont know. expresses himself i guess. poggers :thumbs up emoji i cant use cus im typing on desktop:

Sean Chiplock ouygugh im so sorry king but also not it for Choromatsu...... casting directors, voice directors, whoever else is involved in the process, if youre gonna cast around your initial reactions to how the characters are why doesnt he sound like a fuckin nerd!!! i get that hes initally played as a Straight Man but you didnt have to Just Some Dude him make him sound like the loser he is!! even like a little nasally! i also think he sounds a little too much like Billy's Osomatsu, (which again not the va's faults i feel its a voice direction issue) when they talk at the same time its kinda hard to tell em apart which might be on me for not watching enough and getting used to it but... sorrie... no from me

Michael Sinterniklaas i have so much repect for you but.... i already said in that other post, the voice they okayed..... everything he was made to say....... no. thats not jyushimatsu. that fuckin. companion character in some fantasy anime ass voice, his whole deal in the dub is too childish imo and i get why that was their first impression but oough his character suffers so so much for it moreso than any of the others.... they massacred my guy..... and this is absolutely not a dig at Michael, ive seen his other work hes incredibly talented, just everything they got him to do as jyushimatsu makes me take critical damage in real life my hp bar drops so so much

Also i really like Cassandra Lee Morris as Totoko but I feel like she doesnt capture the flip between teehee totoko chwwaaannn and KILL KILL KILL voices that Aya Endou manages, he voice is very cutesy, but i feel like she doesnt sound mad enough when totoko gets pissed WHERE IS YOUR ANGER? YOUR RAGE??? RISE RISE RISE RISE RI

also also Keith Silverstein as iyami is honestly really good i didnt really know what to expect but i feel like hes p spot on, idk how iyami-likers feel abt him though lol ask telly or sth HJGHJ

SORRY this got long but i probably was never gonna be happy with the dub, im not gonna get too much into the writing in the localisation but ough. it is Just a comedy show to the dub writers and i can respect that, but the show means a lot to people Because of the characters and how they clearly run deeper than they appear thats a huge part of the appeal for ososan imo and i feel like a lot was lost in the translation. But! it can be pretty funny sometimes and thats all it rlly needs to be, funny haha penis anime

oh man, hardly thought i’d see the day when this would happen. i’m not really sure where to start this post to be honest, so apologies in advance for having to read my poorly thought out ramblings.

the rampant hatred everyone seems to have for each other is draining. and this isn't about the anons that i've gotten specifically- i found those funny more than anything (i'm still a slut well denizen at heart), but a whole slew of other things as well. the constant drama feels reminiscent of high school, and come to think of it, it's probably because the sfw community is filled mainly with minors. mostly ones who don't know how to cultivate their own online experience and blame the adults for it, but i digress. every callout post is just a reminder of how toxic and shitty the sfw side of the community can be. lots of people hide behind the "sfw" title to seem innocent and approachable. lots of people demonize the nsfw community for everything that happens here. but in all honesty, when's the last time you've seen any big drama from the nsfw community?

lots of people stay in their own little bubble there, curating their own content and reblogging from each other solely. i find that (most) adults are very good at following their dni criteria and keeping minors away, even if they don't listen. and the fact that the kinksters are so harshly spoken about by the sfw community is another major factor as to why i'm leaving.

i have a tickle fetish. i see tickling as something both nonsexual in platonic scenarios and sexual in romantic ones (in my own life, of course). hearing people constantly saying having a fetish is gross or vile or whatever is genuinely upsetting, which is why i was in denial about it for the longest time. i felt disgusting for it. i was so ashamed and terrified of people finding out, because i thought it would make me some kind of "pervert" or something, which also sounds incredibly stupid when i type it out.

That one Randy show I haven't watched. Talk about something in it you wish was expanded upon

Holy fuckin shit okay. The ONE thing I REALLY wish was expanded on was how being the ninja negatively effected Randh. Like yeah they're never gonna go into his trauma with it but.

In the first Mac Antfee episode, the main reason Randy wants to go to Ninja Camp is because he thinks Antfee can tell him if he's the right person to be the ninja. In the lucious o thunder punch episode, McFist takes over as the city's new hero, which caused Randy to think he isn't needed as the ninja anymore. Shooblivion, he can't help but get distracted because everyone is calling him a shoob. Fart Quest he gets upset bc Howard turned the Ninja into a joke.

There's probs more but these are all I can think of rn.

Of course he gets over it in the end, but the point is that he was doubting himself at all. Randy's already pretty confident in himself at the start of the series, and the more experience he gains as the ninja he only gets more confident (hell by the final episode he's singing along to his own theme song). His development as a character isn't about confidence, but more about gaining experience and becoming better than ever before. But the fact that he doubts himself not once, but multiple times shows that there's clearly some negative effects to being the ninja. It's almost as if he's connecting his self worth to being the ninja. I just wish we got to see more of it bc I fucking love angst.

Also his whole deal with McFist could be pretty angsty. Ya know how in Dead End: Paranormal Park Norma becomes disillusioned and pissed off when she finds out the truth about Pauline, someone who she deeply admired and looked up too? Yeah imagine that with Randy and McFist. Also the idea that only Randy (and Howard) knows that McFist is an awful person but can't tell anyone bc the Sorcerer might be set loose??? Yeaaaaaahhhhhh (just go listen to rat by Penelope Scott with Randy and McFist in mind and you get it)

Tbh all of the side characters should have been explored more, but especially Finja, Theresa, and Debbie. I just wish they drew more parallels to Finja/Plop Plop and Randy/Howard bc Plop Plop was CLEARLY only made to be a parallel to Howard. And finja is just cool. Theresa should have been more explored bc she's the main love interest. Romance isnt the focus of the show, but why bother with a love interest at all if you're not gonna do anything about it? And god... The whole Debbie Kang trying to find out who the ninja is could have been SO COOL if they just. did more with it. I know he's the main character, but I feel like the show could have been better if they didn't focus on Randy every single episode. Especially bc he's not like, actively seeking out to destroy the Sorcerer. He's a much more reactive and passive character than an active character and it's sad :( Shit just happens to him and he has to deal with it bc he's the ninja. But man how are you gonna introduce a subplot like that and just. Not do shit with it. Speaking of subplots, the evil juilan thing should have been fleshed out more too. I just want an episode of him trying to get the powerballs but Der Monster Klub keeps messing with him thinking he's Juilan.

Idk why but tonight lockdown is just.. kinda hitting me. Like. My first term of my 2nd year at uni is over and while I've done quite a lot academic wise I feel like I've just been sitting at home doing nothing. I'm so sad that I havent been able to meet up with my friends like I did last year, I'm so sad that I havent been able to play sports in the sports clubs at uni, I'm so sad that I havent been able to go to the library w my housemate at 1am, I'm so sad that I cant go out to clubs, I'm just sad rn idk idk

Like. even when it comes to academic stuff, I've had most lectures at home? So I sometimes just roll out of bed and open my laptop and start taking notes? And I just kinda miss getting coffee and going to lecture halls and seeing ppl other than my housemates for once (like. No offense to my housemates but like. I do thrive off meeting different ppl, as introverted as I am, I need to be able to leave the house and talk to ppl) I just feel like I've been wasting time and loosing time to catch up on all the things I didnt do during high school bc I was a depressed fuck of a teenager. okay i reached like 600 words written so

WHERE TO EVEN START???? this is gonna be long spoilers i guess but like the more relevant warning is for lots of bad shit. also mentions of car crashes, child death, rape, torture, police violence, gun violence, antisemitism, holocaust mentions, fascism, and drowning. not in too much detail but im not kidding when i say this is gonna get heavy.

Like generally david cage/quantum dream (his company) is racist specifically anti blank and anti indigenous, sexist, ableist like... just everything. I'm going to try not to speak over anyone here but its bad. Inside and out of the games. The company has an awful workplace environment that's been documented and it was one of those like... frat bro atmospheres. Which should tell you a lot about the differences between the games cage claims to make and the games he actually does. I'll get back to that with detroit become human, dbh.

omikron's not worth mentioning besides it being the first game and it being bad but having david bowie make the music for it???? that's some flash gordon and queen shit there

okay so after omikron was indigo prophecy/Fahrenheit. the different names are because there are different versions for north america and europe, with the european version having...sigh... interactive sex scenes. Thank fucking god those were removed. anyways, the story of indigo prophecy is that you play as multiple characters, the first being lucas cain whos not even a funny pathetic little meow meow he just sucks. The game starts and cain has been possessed in order to kill some random guy in a bathroom, he freaks out cleans up the scene and runs away. The other two characters are Carla valenti and tyler miles, the cops pursuing him. youll notice lots of cop characters in every game like all of them are varying degrees of copaganda. the game goes off the rails as lucas goes to see a magic blind woman who can tell him what happened too him, see lucas got possessed by some kind of nahua (but they're called aztecs) shaman? who yes...at some point turns into a panther :| and basically they want to take over the world using the indigo child, whos super special or something but she only gets introduced like thirty mintues away from the ending. also theres sentient ai who want to take over the world. also lucas has dragonball z powers.

Its a huge mess and its also really fucking racist. Like aside from the representation of the nahua you have a white va doing a racist chinese accent and wise old man shtick at one point, but its okay because that character...puts on the accent for customers? like cage thinks he did something really clever there but also carla does the same accent in a different scene so. carla also falls in love with lucas after meeting him like once and then they sleep together. cool. Tyler is also black and like...god... its so bad, hes just a collection of stereotypes and im like 95 percent sure hes voiced by a white guy. Also theres a spooky scary insane prisoners bit where you can get killed by scary CRaZy prisoners. so....yeah. Remember this when cage makes dbh a game like literally co ops civil rights era and blm terms and imagery and makes it about robots. Its the same guy who pulled this. but its okay since he says dbh isnt political...somehow.

so thats indigo prophecy but surely he got better right? Ehhhhhh critically yes, as much as i hate it critics loved both indigo prophecy and his next game, heavy rain. critical opinion has turned around after a few years, and i think they only got good reviews because theyre kind of considered groundbreaking in terms of cinematic games. or they used to be but then ppl realized how fuckin stupid and awful heavy rain was.

most people will tell you its biggest flaw goes like this, its a game that allows you to see the thoughts of the four player characters and it LIES to you. see the plot of heavy rain is ethan mars is a terrible dad. He lost one of his sons years before the plot trying to save him from getting run over and a few years later his other son gets taken by the origami killer. whos known for leaving origami dogs at the scene and taking children and then using the rain to well drown them. ethan is suspected of being the killer because he blacks out and then wakes up with origami in his hands. this was cut out of the game but the reason is in the car crash he ended up...forming a psychic link with the real killer but half of its still in the game as some kind of shitty red herring. But one of the player characters IS THE ORIGAMI KILLER, scott shelby, who never thinks about all the murders hes done even as he's investigating the murders. just literally going to all the parents of the kids hes killed like some kind of trauma tourist. also he kills someone while youre playing him and the game just... doesnt show it to you so. Like i guess he's trying to hide evidence but it would be nice if the player was allowed to KNOW that. The other characters are norman jayden, an fbi agent who just idk hes fine. if heavy rain came out a few years later he would be a tumblr sexyman thats pretty much all you need to know about him. oh he meets the only black character in the game i guess, a violent car thief called mad jack. yeah.

anyways the fourth person is madison paige. i hate her but its not her fault. she's probably the most sexist video game character in existence? like idk why people write think pieces about lara croft and bayonetta when madison is right there. see madison is a war reporter....i think...she doesn't rly seem like it. but shes introduced as having insomnia, which the game tells you by having you play a dream sequence where she walks around in her underwear, takes a shower, and then people break into her apartment and she wakes up just as they throw her on the bed :\ and that's just the start of awful scenes. she meets ethan and they have a okay its optional but its really super intended romance subplot while she heals him for no reason. Ethan's getting injured because the killer is basically putting him through saw:heavy rain trying to find out if hes a good dad or not, and if he succeeds he'll get his kids location. so madison starts investigating. idk she sucks and in her investigation she gets to go through two more attempted rape scenes because that's how david cage writes women. and yes... one of them starts off with her having to be sexy bait to get information out of a guy who later tries to assault and kill her. she just brushes all of this off tho. keep this in mind its another pattern. heavy rain sucks i think thats it

okay so cage moved on to beyond:two souls and he got elliot page and willem dafoe for some goddamn reason idk why people work with him. Elliot page had an awful time and i think sued the company. see he did mocap and acting for the main character jodie and they made textures for his breasts even though you never see them in game, which he did not consent to and there was no reason to make a fully nude model of his body. remember the work place issues i was talking about earlier? yeah.

anyways the story of beyond is jodie has special ghost powers because spoilers her twin died in the womb. its told non chronologically but for no reason except that cage doesnt know how to transition between scenes. seriously people just go places and then mention why theyre there every time. dafoe plays her father figure slash the guy studying her ghost powers because he wants to reach the ghost world and get his wife and daughter back. idk jodie is basically eleven from stranger things but this came out before that so cage didnt copy anyone....but stranger things did it way better.

basically jodie just does things for no reason until she has to save the world because dafoes character opened a ghost portal. one of those things is an attempted rape scene because jodie is a woman in a david cage game :\ at least theres some acknowledgement of trauma later but still, its not even a MAJOR scene it just HAPPENS. the other things she does inbetween being a carrie rip off are become a white savior and a cia agent. ill start with the first one

okay after running away from ah fuck it ties in with the cia thing give me a sec. okay jodie becomes a psychic cia agent because idk the government makes her she doesn't want to. she meets ryan another cia agent and her superior who is nothing but a jackass to her from day one and also hes a romance "option." quotation marks are there because even if you choose the other romance option you still have to go on a date with ryan and he kisses jodie during the climax no matter how many times she tells him to fuck off. yay. anyways jodie commits war crimes in africa, i want to say in an unnamed country featuring jodie bonding with a child soldier. and then is very surprised she committed war crimes because uh oh the cia tricked her oopsies and its rly unexpected that the cia would be involved in a regime change /s. anyways she jumps out of a plane and then is wanted for treason for being mad about doing war crimes with ryan, the guy whos okay with war crimes.

so that's where she's at when she meets oh my god i thought i just forgot it but they just dont have last names omg. okay she meets jay and his family, who are dine and GOD im sorry but this is the plot theyre haunted by a spirit they summoned to defend themselves from colonization. but it just kills indiscriminately. Jodie fixes it for them tho dont worry like im not kidding about the white savior part she just fixes everything with her ghost powers. jay is the other romance option. idk hes just there hes also kind of an ass at first but he has reason to be honestly jodie shows up out of nowhere and wont stop asking about their problems even when they tell her to stop. its... really bad. jays grandmother also dies in the process of fixing everything and they go and bury her in a sacred space and theyre just like hey jodie come on in which feels....really bad. like this is where im sure im over stepping but yeah. came out in 2013 btw.

also jodie goes back to work with ryan to stop the not chinese/north koreans from building a ghost portal because david cage made up a fictional asian country for the cia to fuck with. like its pretty blatant propaganda, like god, especially considering theres a scene where ryan is tortured and its just like guys do you not know how much america has condoned torture? hopefully that makes sense

there also another scary mental patient scene because cage is awful, its not as egregious as indigo prophecy but its another pattern in his work. I think...that's about it? beyond was also where critics started to turn around on cage FINALLY.

so this brings us to dbh where people decided they loved david cage and he was really smart again. now keep in mind when you read this, dbh came out in 2018.

okay dbh has 3 player characters. Kara, Conner, and Markus. Dbh takes place, obviously, in near future detroit and pretty much every major character is white except markus, amanda, and luther who...ill get to. The general story is...god...androids have been invented and its caused tension in america with androids....taking jobs from humans and causing the unemployment rate to skyrocket. At the same time androids are becoming deviant and therefore sentient...a lot of times killing their owners. Keep in mind...this game came out in 2018...its totally not political....but also the androids are literally kept in the back of the bus and markus' plot involves fighting for android freedom in a scene where you can literally chose the slogans for the movement, one of the options being LITERALLY I HAVE A DREAM and one of the logos you can choose being the black power fist. So its not political...but also its about race, using mostly white robots as a metaphor. you see the problem here? david cage is white but hes also literally from france if it wasn't obvious.

okay so markus starts out as basically this rich old painter guys caretaker and its a pretty amicable relationship, the guys even a father figure to markus as he literally calls him dad if he dies. anyways markus gets god...shot by the police for a crime he didnt commit and hes left for dead in a junkyard. I...its so bad i hate typing this out. anyways markus is basically android jesus and MLK or malcolm x, which ill get to. he literally comes back to life and goes to a safe haven for androids call jericho and basically takes over. The general idea of markus' plotline is as the leader and representative of the basically fuckin android civil rights movement is you have to choose between violence and pacifism. Hence the MLK or Malcolm X thing, its not accurate but that's kind of how they and the civil rights movement in general has been flattened and whitewashed by pop culture. Violence btw is associated with property damage which is literally not violent you don't even really hurt anyone. Although the game does force some...god... scenes where "bad apples" kill cops and i just like the problem is so glaring right? this is literally how right wingers and fascists view the blm movement like how come fans of dbh dont see this?? god im done talking about markus

so kara is the woman android so she gets to do basically nothing that affects the greater plot and take after a child instead. oh god im having flashbacks to karas story ill get to them. okay the main theme of karas story is human and android connections, but also the kid was an android the whole time and the game just lies to you again kara knew the whole time actually. so after rescuing alice, the kid, from her shitty not actually dad the two go on the run trying to get to canada. because canada doesnt allow androids so they can blend in. at one point the two of them go to this spooky resident evil mansion to get karas tracking chip removed but the guy tries to sell her for parts because hes basically sid from toy story. i only mention this because in this scene its possible for kara to gain an ally in luther, sid from toy story's android. luther is like fuckin 8 feet tall he's huge and hes black and before hes an ally that's used as an intimidating aspect of the scene. but really hes just the gentle giant trope and thats...kind of it. hes not even a romance option which kinds of sucks because it would really fit with cage's storylines? but luther is black and kara is white so its just not presented as an option. markus gets a romance option in north, a white android though, which feels really colorist. i could be speaking over people so im gonna stop there but yeah.

karas story gets worse though because they god...literally go to meet a black woman named rose who runs...an android underground railroad to canada. I am not kidding. Rose even mentions shes doing this because of the slavery parallels BUT ITS NOT POLITICAL THOUGH AND AHHHHHHH its just really really tone deaf and awful

okay heres where kara story kind of splits into things some players may or may not see. but if you fuck up enough late in the game kara, luther, and alice can get sent to...god...an android concentration camp because the government is really scared of deviancy and markus' movement pretty much no matter what you do. It is awful. what makes it worse is the androids also have specific clothing that includes a blue armband and a triangle symbol on the chest. so even if players dont see this specific scene which i can't really explain it but its so much worse than im getting into here i promise this shit is shit in your face the ENTIRE game. Cage just takes all these really traumatic historical events real people are STILL feeling the effects of and just slaps them all together and has the gall to pretend its not political at ALL. which leaves the question, is this supposed to be just pure entertainment? with all these awful things strewn about with no thought behind them besides...they would be fun? because if its not political than what do you want people to get out of it?

okay almost 3000 words in and im getting to the reason im writing this. connor my arch nemisis. He is, no question, the reason this game has had the staying power and fandom it has. because connor is a skinny white guy in a suit who you can reasonably pair with another attractive guy. he is the bane of my existence.

connor is a cop android, specifically built to investigate deviancy. hes a cop he gets a buddy cop story where he bonds with the guy who like 90 percent sure lost his son to androids. His name is hank, and yes since people wont stop mentioning it, he is mocapped and voiced by the same guy who does mr krabs. okay connors thing is at what point is an android a human, because he is constantly getting pulled becoming a deviant or following his program. it sucks its copaganda and connor sucks and i hate him i am trying so hard to remember what he even does besides look pretty i guess. this is where cages problem with getting from point a to point b are really apparent connor and hank just go places where crimes committed by androids happened and try to solve them. theres so much to talk about in like all of them but im gonna focus on the tracy case. because yes ive held off so far but cage did include sex androids.

okay so basically the story is these two sex worker androids became sentient and also theyre gay so they killed a customer to run away together. god. yes they fight you in heels and underwear. yes you are given the option to shoot them. yes they are the same model of android (tracies) so its really uncomfortable and playing into the lesbian doppelganger idea. yes if you shoot them later when you are trying to solve a puzzle you use one of their severed heads to talk to the other one. yes these are the only gay characters in dbh. i hate it. sure you dont HAVE to do the last one, but its an option and in a game with options you have to analyze ALL of them. which oh my god i will get to because one of the endings is literally so so so so so gross.

okay first step to talking about the ending. Connor investigates the guy who created the androids, kamski. he was taught by amanda, one of the other black characters and basically shes in connors head to get him to follow his programming and just be a cop and deal with god the android civil rights movement since its caused by deviancy. its really insidious people have written about the rise in the inclusion of black cops, gay cops, etc in copaganda and while amanda is not a cop she basically has the same role.

kamski is just shittier elon musk i dont care about him. but there is an ending where i have to care about him. see if you meet all the requirements when markus and connor meet and face off, connor will join the movement and as markus is speaking connor will shoot and kill him. and then its revealed deviancy is an outside force, created by kamski, a rich white guy. NOW THE IMPLICATIONS OF THIS ARE SO BAD. i hate to type this out but see, fascists believe that jewish people are ultimately behind black lives matter. See the idea that george soros is funding protestors. its baseless obviously and racist and antisemitic but thats literally this ending in a nutshell. a rich white guy behind the movement all along. most players wont get this ending but its still a part of the game its still something that needs to be analyzed.

this is all mostly from memory btw besides a few names i had to remember, so ive probably missed half the awful stuff in these games. these games are awful dont play them. the reason i know so much about them is because ive watched playthroughs and honestly? david cage lives rent free in my mind, im brave enough to admit it.

so when i see the dbh fandom running around its just like...what are you people doing? these games are awful and even if they werent racist, sexist, antisemitic MESSES they would still be awful. but david cage has become this kind of george lucas figure, people dont say no to him and after dbh hes a critical darling again, even with all of this shit. I'm not the only one whos written about it if i can find some articles i might make another post so you can read something thats a lot less rambling. this shit is in your face its not hidden its not subtext its text ALL of it and people have been pointing this out for years.

Tommy's prison/revival arc isnt well written actually

Anyways ive been wanting to talk on it a while for a bit here but havent had the Time or like. The thought to. But im gonna go off now.

First off im gonna say im ASSUMING this stream and plot of tommy being in the prison with dream is written entirely by tommy and dream. Wilbur May be involved in the latest stream but im not sure.

Bringing tommy back to life after only three days of him being dead did practically nothing to progress plot, the characters, or audience's understanding. In fact i feel that it damaged Other characters' potential and plot and already established plotlines.

The 'development' aspect

A really, really easy way to see if anything has changed or developed through an arc or plotline is to straightup just compare the 'beginning' to the 'end' in terms of the barebones situation. So;

Beginning: tommy is trapped in an isolated prison cell with dream, his own abuser who has hurt him in the past, for an unknown amount of time. He's terrified of dream and being stuck there with him.

End: tommy is trapped in an isolated prison cell with dream after being killed then revived by him, his own abuser whos hurt him in the past, for an unknown amount of time. Hes terrified of dream and being stuck there with him.

Okay. This is simplified obvious. But the point stands. ALTHOUGH the troupe of 'going back to the beginning' is common in the heroes journey its. It doesnt work here. Has tommy learned anything? Has he changed as a character? Is the severity of their situation any different? Have we, as the audience, learned anything new?

Im going to expand on that last point because i think it has the strongest potential argument. Technically for progression in literature and development of plot/characters, things can Change without them being Aware as characters. It can change just by the audience's perception changing or being challenge.

Slight example: i've been reading a webcomic called Your Throne. Its a fantasy/political drama about a noble lady who entered a competition with another noble lady to become the empress. The main lady lost despite her being a better fit, and the comic starts with the main lady trying to assassinate the empress. Its assumed and stated by the main lady that she 'ruined her life' and so thats all the readers know. However, later in the novel we see flashbacks to the competition itself and find that the two ladies were extremely close friends, neither wanting anything bad for the other, but it was the emperor himself who manipulated both of them for his own agenda. Those flashbacks gave us an entirely different idea of who the real antagonist is and completely changed the two main ladies' relationship. THAT is how the audience's understanding of the plot and novel can be used to change the entire story. We dont get such here though

Some things that were brought to light during tommy being dead/revived:

Dream is capable of reviving people infinitely

This was already implicated and assumed. The book dream has being a means of reviving people has been around Technically since schlatt's death. This just 'confirmed' what was known

Time works differently/feels longer in the afterlife

This doesnt really impact much beyond emotions and implications. If we had more insight into what the 'afterlife' is like beyond nothingness perhaps so. But really it just makes it so wilbur being dead for what feels like 9 years and tommy having been dead for 2 months appeal to emotions.

Wilbur is evil

This one fuckin sucks i cant lie HSKSHSISSGEGDV. Like i was gon go on bout it and i will but it jus sucks. We have nothing to go on besides tommy's word, no examlles of what Horrible things wilbur said could make tommy assume this, etcetc. Ill most likely make a seperate post on how this feels like we're just going to get 'wilbur is a horrible villain' type with him. But still. I feel wilbur Not Being Good isnt a new development.

Dream is going to revive wilbur

This doesnt feel new either, part because phil had wanted to revive wilbur before (ill get to that more later) and that tommy had kept dream alive/initially imprisoned him with the idea of him reviving wilbur.

Dream believes wilbur will break him out of prison

Okau this makes no sense to me actually. I cwnt understand How exactly wilbur would be able to do this? Or why dream believes he even Could? Mans been dead for like 9 years and all we Know of the afterlife is that its black... nothingness. How would 9 years of that make wilbur capable of busting the prison open?

So. Yeah. All in all this plotline hasnt done anything new, developed things, or altered people's perceptions. We just ended up back at square one. Back to tommy being traumatized, dream being 'evil' and horrible and doing villain monologues, and them being stuck together.

Other characters and plotlines

Im pretty damn sure tommy's revival fucked up a LOT of other characters' plotlines and potential development. Honestly i feel this has a lot to do with the writers not communicating with other ccs well enough. But Ill talk about specific characters from least to most fucked over in my opinion:

Sam

He's the best off. He hqd been there during tommy's death, had been close to tommy, had majorly blamed himself and his own mistakes for tommy's death. His grief and self hatred was actually really heartbreaking and well done. The attached character of Sam Nook being unaware of tommy's death and simply waiting for tommy to return was a really good parallel to sam's own grief and anger. like it really snapped sam the guy who cares for tommy and wants to do Right by him back together with him as the Warden of the prison. Mixed personal life with 'just business'.

I feel it wouldve been nice to have him like. Have more time to grieve properly and come to terms eith tommy's death and his own involvement/influence over the events. Him finding tommy alive again Could be a means of him like. Facing his own grief head on if done well.

Ranboo

Mostly in the context of him and sam's argument do i feel it got screwed over. The weight of them yelling at each other and trying to find who to blame and the implications that Maybe ranboo was the one who caused the security breach that closed down the prison on tommy just.... doesnt hit so hard anymore. Because how can there be blame and arguments and a 'who done it' mystery when tommy popped up all fine again?

Puffy

I dony know much of her involvement or how she found out tommy died (besides metagaming shhhhh) but i saw her monologuing of how they 'failed' tommy and like. Her whole 'he was so young we the Adults failed him' spiel is like........... inconsequential? Now??? Like no dont worry he died but hes alright now.

Philza

BET YOU DIDNY EXPECT TO SEE THIS FUCKER!!!!!! But actually though i want to talk bout how this ties into phil. A LOT. for Zalbr ❤. But also because i see ppl tying phil to tommy's death n like nah shutup u doin it wrong. Ill go off more in a Wilbur Post. But essentially: i dont like that dream is now going to revive wilbur. I feel they arent going to tie philza into this Despite phil having originally been trying to revive his son and studying on it and Attempting and Failing. But now suddenly dream can just. Say some magic words and Poof wilbur lives? So we're just going to Kill philza's revival attempts plotline and leave that hanging? This made his efforts seem pointless and Wack like oh why didnt you just Say The Magic Words phil????

Niki

I feel really bad for niki. She hasnt been able to do a lore stream during tommy's 'death' (she tweeted she wanted to but her computer wasnt working) and considering her entire character.... that shit is important. We seen it with Jack Manifold how tommy's death impacted Him considering he literally wanted tommy dead. And since niki is in a similar boat to jack of trying to kill tommy and it being her Only goal...... thats extremely important.

BUT. i feel there wasnt any communication. Did she or anyone even know tommy would be revived? Did no one consider they could At Least let her do a single stream on it? Like jack manifold????

We couldve gotten a Really good niki lore stream. I genuinely was so excited for it and i dont regularly watch her. But we seen it with jack manifold which is why i dont feel he got screwed because mans genuinely did So Good he could pop off with anything n i think it works in His favour. But now........ for niki. Canonically she never even knew tommy was Dead. So its like nothing even happened for her. Is she just supposed to continue on trying to kill tommy with no progression?

What i think would work

This is more me being like 'hey @ the dsmp writers let me in' type speculation sbosegussgs. But i was thinkin on a Really easy way to 'fix' this without rewriting lore and the streams.

Dream should kill tommy again now that he's been revived and Leave Him Dead.

More development for the characters who are affected by his death Especially niki. More time for grief and self reflection and development

A chance for the audience to figure out what the 'afterlife' really is.

Dream is supposed to be smart and a master manipulator or something right? Why doesnt he use being able to revive tommy as a bargaining chip with sam for his own freedom?

The audience would now Know dream's intentions with tommy better, that this death isnt 'final', but we could still see other characters' grief and reactions and coping without it feeling cheap. Ive seen some 'but people dont know tommy is alive so hes still dead in their mind' but that sucks imo.

We'd know more on dream's ability to revive people and that he can just Do It on a whim (which i think sucks but hey im trying) but no one else would know this canonically
