I know it's a story, oh I know it's just a story. But why does it feel like my worst nightmare?

My Explorers of Sky Hero, Echo!

Lately I've been writing a study on her and this paragraph is taken from my rough rough draft. It's a more in-depth exploration of her character/origin/experiences and since I am a huge fan of the darkrai reincarnation theory, this is my personal take on the concept.

I think it's a bit poetic that Echo, in the aftermath of everything, winds up as a dark-type again (and one connected to the moon no less, the irony) as well. I mean, her timeline of lives has literally been this:

Darkrai (New Moon/Pitch Black) -> Human -> Eevee (Evolution) -> Umbreon (Moonlight)

A lot of her evolution into umbreon has to do with her personal trauma/amnesia and also significant influence from dusknoir (who she trusted and cared about), but deep down I feel like her evolution was also partially determined by the fragmented remnants of her original self. She even tried to evolve into leafeon, which obviously, did not work out as planned. Perhaps this is her past lives way of manifesting in her current self, though she is no longer the same pokemon anymore. Maybe it has something to do with self-forgiveness or acceptance? She still has a lot of healing to do, though.

Once evolving into a dark type, Echo slowly starts to regain some of her memories from her time as Darkrai. And Team Wish's new friendship with Cresselia, who is more perceptive than she has any right to be, gives Echo a lot of insight into exactly who she is. This spirals into Echo battling the reality of her past actions alone for a long time because how is she supposed to admit the truth to Sora? That she was the direct cause of their shared suffering? That she and darkrai are one and the same? That all of the pokemon of the future lived in an eternity of hell because she desired it? Of course, she keeps quiet for a long time out of pure fear-- because if Sora rejected her, she'd fall apart. It's a lot to keep secret but what else can she do?

And bonus!! Does Echo's shadow change during each night of the new moon? Hmm. Sure does seem like it.

i had an idea for a canary fakemon that glows when it sings, so miners used to use it as a light source. this was very dangerous for the pokemon and many of them died. the spirits of some of those pokemon became trapped in the mines and now haunt them, taking revenge for their untimely demise by using their light and song to lure unwary people and pokemon to their deaths ^_^

i was reading this again and it just got me thinking about orison and mulder's journey with scully's faith. like. he doesn't understand it but he believes in scully like she believes in him. they love each other so much so quickly. but they had so many missteps. his are often about her faith & belief.

in beyond the sea, the first time he sees her just believe anything, he gets angry (because he's afraid) and he's forceful until he takes a minute, sees how upset she is. he asks if it has to do with her father. she can't bring herself to answer honestly, but mulder knows. he sees her. and they talk about it. he says one of my favorite lines.

dana, open yourself up to extreme possibilities only when it's the truth.

when scully is abducted, he tries to give her cross to maggie but she tells him to hold onto it & give it back to scully. he asked maggie why scully wore it, because they hadn't really talked about it before. and he wears it around his neck, the only part of her he can hold onto. when he gives it back, scully tells him she had the strength of his beliefs. (mulder coming to her mattered.)

in revelations, she's seeing signs and she feels drawn to kevin. at the end, she goes to confession because she can't talk to mulder about it. in beyond the sea scully tells him she's afraid to believe, in revelations she tells the priest she's afraid god is speaking and no one is listening. (and she's afraid when she believes and mulder doesn't. she's afraid to trust herself when it's in something mulder doesn't believe. they fear the "same" thing.)

in all souls, scully is seeing emily in those girls. emily begs scully to let her go, and the last girl dies too. scully was struggling with her faith, she wanted to believe, she saw things she couldn't explain. and it made her believe god took those girls, not the devil. (to me, it feels like it would be a way for god to tell scully she's forgiven, or she did the right thing. because she can't believe letting children die is the right thing, and in a very fucked up way, they are saying it was right. but i think it's more about scully finding peace & a way to move forward. but she never really does.) mulder is concerned the entire time, he's harsh. i think in revelations & all souls, he says it's the work of religious zealots. and it hurts scully, but she called him for help in all souls, because she's afraid of her belief.

but in orison...he's concerned because it's donnie pfaster. he doesn't want her working the case, but they're the best people for the job. again, her religion comes into play. reverend orison tells scully

believe in the lord...he believes in you

he talks about god calling her. and she heard the song. she tells mulder it means something. he doesn't understand, probably doesn't quite believe her beyond the way it's affecting her, holds meaning for her. it may even be what makes him so concerned about scully working this case. and in the end, when he hears the song, he calls scully and when there's no answer, he drives to her immediately. getting there just in time. in revelations, the priest tells her maybe the signs were just for scully. this time, mulder hears the song every time she does and then again when she needs him. he didn't believe in the beginning, he doesn't believe in god. but mulder believes in scully. this episode was a stepping stone to where he is in the revival.

life lately has been one seemingly long, gigantic “in-between” woven with the faith that something is ahead of me. I’m far from what was behind me.

Then I’m reminded that the past is much closer to the present moment than I think. And the future is a breath away. Time is such a trickster for the human mind. I’m learning to laugh at the tricks & celebrate myself for when I take them too seriously. I have to believe that everything works out in it’s own unique frequency aligned with the highest good of my expansion. Without that belief, chaos consumes my perspective… I lose sight on the laughter. This is my medicine: laugh & laugh & laugh at all the chaos I create. Pray for myself and the world. Love as best as I can & allow myself to exist in whatever space arises. I got me better than anyone else because I know God and she lives within me every day if I allow her to. If I open myself to her.
